Browns vs Chargers: Final Injury Report Full of Concerns for Cleveland
"We're still looking at Wednesday's injury report, but for the Chargers, everybody's getting a little practice, and there's no D and ds. Anybody that's not practicing is on IR. Right. Those are the only guys that are not practicing, but knock on wood doesn't this feel weird? It feels good. It feels really weird because when you look at the Cleveland Browns, there's a slew of dudes of DNP. There's a lot. There is a lot of 15 or 17 something crazy. There's a lot of people on this list. Yeah, in years past, this would be flipped. We would be the one with the scroll of players that are not practicing and the other team had like a handful. Not this year, folks this year, we've only got one two and three, four, 5, 6. People on the list and everybody's practicing. Yeah, three of them are limited, but they only guide on their list that's like come on dude is Chris Harris. You know, like, you asked the point or else they would have put them on IR. He had to be so close to being able to play. He has to be back this week. Coach coach talked about him last during his most recent press conference and he said that, you know, he practiced in pads last week. There are really wanting these guys to get healthy and stay healthy. Right. It feels like he's probably going to play this week. He got in limited, but, you know, Justin Jackson Derwin and Chris Harris are limited. So everyone else is full. So that's pretty crazy. Yeah. And yeah, and it's crazy because the browns have an extra day rest too, 'cause they put Sunday, we play Monday. Their list is huge, man. It's crazy because a lot of these are like, they're just not practicing. Coach is just like not injury related. They're just resting. Two of the guys. Run them up. Run them off. Run them off, dog. Let's see. So we've got Odell Beckham junior. He's practicing in full davin Clowney. He's he didn't practice, which is, I mean, that's a big name. Wow. Garrett didn't practice Troy hill, Malik Jackson. There's a lot of guys on this list that starters that didn't

Patrick mahomes okay but really quickly though i had a really good comeback but i was gonna say what am i george westinghouse because he created the the air brake system trains. That was a really big poll. But if you watch the show archer you might have gotten that reference Or believe you went back to explain all of that. Yeah was like you. it's a joke in archer. it's a joke. They would make like that in the show archer. Yeah i get it. It was. I'm rambling but i thought it was really funny and my dome so i thought other people. Should you know what people should spend just like four minutes inside my head so there you go. That's what you get when you're inside my dome taste every week. I appreciate the the slight peaks behind the curtain. I get yeah yeah and taste song by tiga see always has some every word has a correlation to something else you asked what. Mvp offense defense correct and it can't be patrick mahomes correct correct okay. That's great because offensively. I had paddock Offensively i if the chiefs are going to be taken to the next level. I kinda wanna say. It's going to be clyde edwards hilar- and hear me out. I'm the captain of running backs. Don't really matter. But i think going to be putting up insane counting stats this year. I think offensive line should be getting more of the credit because is completely revamped but with so many new guys the ovens align is going to be difficult to point to one of them so give it to clyde. I think is going to be used a lot more in the passing game. I think we're gonna see a lot more use it from him When it comes to getting passes thrown his way. I think he's gonna be very effective. I think that's his best trait. Also he's got a lot of touchdowns new offense align we're talking at some massive just bodies upfront. We're gonna see a lot more push going on especially in the red zone. I think we're gonna see a lot more touchdowns from clyde no longer. We see Four tops no longer. Will we see a fourth and one in a screen pass to blake beller. Travis kelsey going in china the ball to patrick and the like. We're just going gonna say okay. Let's just move. The defense align elect clyde walk in so all the county numbers are gonna be for clyde. So that's who..

Drummond a Better Addition to Lakers Than Rondo to Clippers
"We'll really both teams. Latest editions have paid off saturday. Andre drummond helped lead the lakers in an upset win over the nets. Thanks to his twenty points and eleven rebounds while yesterday rajon rondo dropped five ten points in the fourth quarter. Help the clippers close out the pistons in a comeback win so shannon waiting to think long and hard about this who is the better acquisition from in oregon out here. I think both gas were what the doctor ordered I think would rondo. Does he is allow. He allows paul george and kawhi not to worry about the ball handling situation especially late in the ball game so now they can do what they really good. At that score the basketball rondo will always get them into the right set. He will always do the right thing. Andre drummond is. This is just what the doctor ordered scale because he gives them. Something that the lakers didn't have the size and strength on the block. A guy that could score down there a guy that could rebound down there and a guy that can defend down there so for me. I'm going to say audrey draw. But although i believe rondo a great acquisition andre drummond is going to be the difference between the lakers winning and losing the title. Because i believe skips if you remember last year would they could do. Is that javagal. Into why they all they own for the most time they own the rebounding advantage. I believe this is going to be another situation that they're gonna get a lot of second chance opportunities because the look the other night i think andre drummond had offense rebounds that gives you another opportunity to possibly get. Am one adult or is going to be kicked out to a wide. Open three point shooter so for me. I'm gonna take andre drummond. 'cause i love and plus he three in august this year

Bill O'Brien: Head coach fired by Houston Texans
"Coach Bill O'Brien has gone from the Houston Texans and nobody can say they're surprised last January. He had his team up twenty four nothing over the chiefs in the playoffs then got outscored fifty one to seven. But as a coach O'Brien can at least say he won four division champions in six years. It's as a GM that he made. You scratch your head in one year he traded former number one picture Davey clowney to Seattle he traded two first round picks a second round pick for Laremy Tunsil and Kenny stills and the whopper of the mall. He traded the Andre Hopkins to Arizona for running back David Johnson as of now. Johnson is thirty seventh in the League in rushing and Hopkins leads the NFL in receiving. Yeah. That'll get you fired but not as fast as an oh four start despite having to Shawn Watson and Jj Watt on your team a heated argument with what may have been the last straw for O'Brien. Then again, have you ever stood next to Jj watt they can't say O'Brien doesn't have courage. He just doesn't have a job anymore.

"Jadeveon Clowney when he is motivated, and he is healthy can be an absolute wrecking ball. The Texas did not see enough of that in Houston, Tio Validate giving him a big contract. And I wonder if this is best case scenario for the Titans, where Clowney feel disrespected. And cloudy feels like he is on a prove it type of season for the rest of the NFL and his old employers in Seattle and Houston. Clowney being added to that Titans team should not be overlooked, and we just had Mitch Moss joined us. Our Vegas virtuosos, saying one of the best futures bets he sees of a team winning a Super Bowl. Kind of under the radar is the Titans. "Davian Clowney or the intentions of the Titans for an office in advance, But To Davian Clowney over the course of his career in the NFL and college has not been encumbered by the limitations that sometimes stop other players like, you know, fair play and not being dirty. And if you're going to stop my home, I hope you'll do it on the up and up by just getting his grill and knock into the ground if you can do it. But a guy like Jadeveon Clowney who'll cross that line who are rough a guy up, We'll get a little frustrated. You know. One unfortunate hit on Holmes. Khun Change the course of the NFL history, at least in the course of a season didn't last year, but almost it He's a bad man. And he's a really impressive football player. "And so they would essentially be moving $10 million worth of a Clowney deal to the Saints. Who would have sent Cleveland a second round pick, as well as a player to take additional salary off of their books. The Saints then would have paid Clowney. There are the remaining 10 million. So the bottom line all parties involved would have been That The Saints would pay Clowney a $10 million deal. Clowney would make a total of 15 because team acts Cleveland it's believed to be would have paid him a $5 million signing bonus and the Saints would be paying him 10. And for paying five million bucks to Clowney Team X would essentially be buying. A second round pick from the Saints Functionally is what would we would be happening again? Probably not the easiest thing to listen to in your car and you're driving around. I get that. But I just think it goes to show you the creativity, A the creativity that The Saints were willing to engage in to get Clowney. And be that it's not just a Z Z as well. When you need caps. Maybe she can always find cab space. If it was that easy. The Saints would have found cap space. They would have taken somebody's deal and restructured it. Open up the space to get Clowney. But they weren't able to do that. Otherwise cloudy might be in a saint's uniform. We don't know that And I think I boy think of your Clowney. I think maybe I'm on a sacrificed. A few million bucks of 10 million were the threshold for the Saints of that, where their top out deal I might have taken 10 million from the Saints before I take maybe 15 from the Titans. If the goal is to get a long term deal, because with the Saints, you get a chance to get that stink of being on a Super Bowl stink in a good way. Being part of a Super Bowl winner. I think the Saints are a much better bet to get to a Super Bowl than the Titans. I think the saints there's a chance they might have used him better than the Titans. We're going to use use him. But who knows? Maybe Clowney's goal isn't to get a long term deal. Maybe Clowney likes being this guy who starts a bidding war a week before the season starts. It's what's happened two years in a row. Last year. With the Texans having him on the franchise tag and Clowney basically needing to approve where he would go play. A week before the season started, and now being a free agent, maybe he likes missing training camp training in Houston taxes with Danny Arnold, his personal trainer. And then just being a soldier of fortune every year. 855 to 1 to four. CBS. Let's Get one in here before we get Teo before we the next segment. Let's go to Cleveland and talk to Jo Jo Europe on CBS Sports Radio. How you doing, Joe? This is a good talk right now. I'm looking at the odds and has a few things I like. I'm looking at the odd Tell me over under 8.5 on the Tennessee Titans. I like over on that also really like over 7.5. On the Houston Texans. And I'm looking at Over nine on the Seattle Seahawks. Which then might have me go under 10.5 on the 40. Niners Think the Niners can win 10 games. What do you think about some of that? Yeah, I like someone. Give me just Joe. Just as a follow up. Give me your reasoning on the Titans again. I think the Titans are bringing back a strong teammate half win to have Derrick Henry don't bring him back their quarterback. They strengthened their defense. They were playoff team last year, so I expect him to be strong, expecting to win nine games this year. I feel very strong about that. Well, it is. It is what they do, Joey, I'll give you my thoughts on that. I appreciate it. Appreciate the phone call Joe. I'll give you my thoughts on all those Um Here's my thing on the Titans. I think I actually think the opposite. And it's for a similar reason that you think the over I think the under on the Titans. I think the under on the Titans because they're bringing back their quarterback in their running back from last year, And here's what I mean by that. And then again, the number is 8.5. I think the Titan's air, really banking On Ryan Tannehill on Derrick Henry being what they were last year when keep in mind. They were nine and seven last year. They've been nine and seven each of the last four seasons. I just think that and so some conventional wisdom may say, Look, they're at least gonna go 19 7. That's what they do every year. Here's my feeling on Tannehill on Derrick Henry, though. Ryan Tannehill, a complete outlier of a season last year, he finally had a good season at age 32. I think that's a tough thing to sustain. I think that's a tough thing to say. Well, here it is now. Ryan Tannehill. Is this going forward? If he is God blessing because he's getting paid like it now they're paying in like a franchise quarterback. Meanwhile, Derrick Henry, they're paying him a CZ. Well, they gave him a long term deal. But he touched the ball over 300 times last year. It's really tough to ask a guy to do what Derrick Henry did last year with that style of running that punishing style of running even as big of a brute force guy as Derrick Henry is It's tough to replicate that. I think they're counting on to things that are very tough to sustain and replicate Ryan Tannehill playing it in the elite level. Derrick Henry touching the ball over 300 times. And so I just can't help but think under and I think it's tough to take over on the Titans and take over on the Texans, isn't it? For the same reason why you're taking over on Seattle and under in San Francisco, they share the same division they might cannibalize each other. As Faras. Seattle goes over nine Look, they're a team that they've been above 500 team every year that Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll had been there. So I think they'll just find a way to be nine and seven, at least so I feel I feel better about that one. Over Seattle. I tell you the best that I really like in that division. In the NFC West. If you're if you're listening in Los Angeles, talk me out of this. Talk me out of why I should bet on anything. Rams related On the over. Why should I bet on the Rams over 8.5? Because I am sure is hell betting on under 8.5. I think the Ram Zahra five and 11 team this year. I think Jared Goff starting to get exposed. I think we started to slowly see the salary cap whittle away at their team. We started to see that all in approach that they've taken Come back to roost. Sean McDaid is not quite the genius when he's not able to keep all these guys when he doesn't have an offensive line. That was, frankly, it was Annie lied Offensive line back when they made the Super Bowl. Their offensive line stinks now. Injured. Golf's not a guy who can bail you out like, say, Dijon Watson can when you have a bad offensive line, Shawn Watson was a guy who played behind a bad offensive line for two years in Houston. His first two years, and he still put up elite numbers. Jared Goff's not that guy. Why should I bet on over Rams 8.5. I think they're going to be five and 11. I'll take him under 8.5. That's the bit I really like in that division. All right. If you're in an NFL city, and you want to Lay it out for me. Joe laid out a few of them for me there. I like him like the Texans one. I'm not wild about the Titans one they can get with you on the Seahawks 855 to 1 to four, CBS. If you if you want to get in on this show eight by 5 to 124227 a little later on this hour, we will talk some cowboys football with John Ma Choda of the athletic covers the Cowboys for the athletic, So we will talk some Cowboys football later on this hour in the meantime, eight by 5 to 1.

Captain Cam: 'Real work' with Patriots starts now
"Cam, Newton was voted a team captain bill. Says, he won't name any starters at this point. "clowney" Discussed on Vegas Nation - Raiders Football
"Welcome back Raider fans to Vegas Nation first and ten year Monday. Goto Raiders News on vinnie bonds. Your host I cover the raiders for the Las Vegas Review Journal. Okay, so we've been talking about David and cloudy. I think that we're all on the same page here, right? Obviously for the right price, you'd go get to David and cloudy. If you have a legit opportunity, the question is all right. So how much would it cost to bring him in? And first of all? Let's start with this. As of today, the raiders have about eight million dollars over eight million dollars under the salary cap to play with now that can. Be Manipulated. You can always be creative. There's flexibility whether you're talking about cutting player reworking contract. There's always ways to make up a little bit of money that it probably would take. To bring cloudy and now first and foremost when this process started, when free agency started, Clowney was asking for twenty two million dollars. Sorry, but he's not that player. He's not Aaron Donald, and for that reason he's not going to get twenty two million dollars. That's why he's in a position that he's in right now. looking for a deal now. That makes sense for him I don't. Don't think he's going to get the seventeen million dollars that it was reportedly offered by the Cleveland Browns to him I don't think he's going to get fifteen million dollars a year, and if he does get fifteen million dollars a year if I'm the raiders Okay I'll give you fifteen million dollars, but I need an option for next year, so to essentially make it a two year. Commitment where I get him back next year, but short of that I think it's going to be more along the lines of a one year contract probably in that nine to twelve million dollar. And I think the raiders are really well situated right now where their roster is the work that they've done the last three years to upgrade across the board. This isn't three years ago. Were you sacrifice a Khalil Mack in order to bring backdraft assets and then use the money that would have been earmarked for him to fill multiple holes across the roster. The raiders had done a really good job of. Of fixing the rosters to put themselves in a position where you add a player like Clowney, you invest in a player like Clowney, because you know that you have a lot of other holes already fixed granted, they have to have reliance. Young players but I think that they feel really good about those young players, and about what they've been able to do in free agency when you talk. About a cory littleton and Nick Wykowski and Maurice, Randall and Melik, collins and Carl, Nassib. Done so much to help their defense and I. Think they're in a good position now to add dynamic player like a cloudy, but it has to be on their terms, and what I'm thinking about is nine to twelve million dollars. If that can work if you can convince him to come at that price, you go, get today including skill. You gotTa push through. Through it man, that's a thickened mass gay. Welcome back, RAIDER FANS! This is Vegas Nation I. in tenure, Monday Go-to for Raiders News and analysis I pope yet a great weeks since we last talked and wish everybody well for the for the week coming up and you know when I look at the calendar. I do this every Monday. It's Joe Ally Thirteenth. Trap scheduled to start folks on July twenty eighth. We are two weeks and one day away and I say this with Westinghouse Cross away from to count starting now. There's a lot that needs to happen between the NFL and the Players Association. They are having that out as we speak in terms of protocols training camp roster sizes. How they? The NFL is going to ensure help ensure. That the players are safe in the training camp environment There's a lot that needs to be done. They have to talk about money Obviously we all know that chances are good that we're not gonNA. Have a fans if any or very limited amount of fans at Games next this season. What does that mean well? It means that. Revenues. Go down and when we if we're talking about this time next year you're talking about the two thousand twenty payroll being predicated on revenue that was made in two thousand and twenty, so it stands to reason that everyone's GonNa take a big hit this year, because fans are not going to be part of it, or at least not the way they have been historically, so numbers are going to go down. And how do you fix that? How? What the players don't want to be in a position where in twenty twenty one. They take a massive. Hit on the on the salary cap, and it's reflected in their salaries next year so what they're probably going to try to do and talking to people in the NFL smooth it out so that the big hit doesn't happen in one fell swoop in two thousand twenty one they'll. They'll borrow from twenty twenty, two borrow from twenty, twenty, three. When everyone when? When everyone is back on solid ground and you're. You're starting to talk about revenue moving back up. They'll borrow from the future in order to make sure twenty twenty one isn't as hard hit, but they have to get that all taken care of before antibody reports training camp, so keep an eye on all that, but fact is hopefully training camp is. Is, going, to get started here pretty soon whether it's July twenty eighth or shortly thereafter, and usually this time of year would like to do is start thinking about guys that a really interested in watching in training camp and one thing about this training camp as opposed to that I've ever covered. Is that usually by this time you have a whole body. Body of work to look back on during ot as we get to physically watch, players perform and I know there's no pads and there's no tackling, so that element is typically you can see guys that can play even a not a situation I go back to Cooper Cup couple of years ago, covering the Los Angeles. Rams, he was a third round. Round pick, so he wasn't. Some can't Miss Prospect, but you watched him for one day two days in ot as just putting clinics on against a pretty good defensive backfield for the rams, just destroying them every day off the line of scrimmage with tremendous footwork, separation, ability route running intelligence. He was just killing dudes, and after a day or two. You're like. Like okay, that dude complaint straight out that dude comply so you. You Do have some evidence during Ota's of is that you can kind of count on as being productive NFL players. We don't have that luxury in this year, but that doesn't mean that I'm not fired up about some guys especially after taking a deep dive into their film work whether. Whether it was college, or or or there early time in the NFL and three guys that have really jumped out at me that I really can't wait to watch in training camp is Malea Collins defensive tackle from the Dallas cowboys who the raiders site in free agency I thought he was kind of flying under the radar still to this day a bigger. Bigger signing than I think a lot of fans are giving credit for twenty four years old has a history of being able to create pass rush from the interior, which is perfect for a while back when you're defending quarterback Patrick Mahomes. You collapsed the pocket from the inside now all of a sudden you have feral and Max. Crosby signed David Clowney. Coming from the outside and and wreaking havoc that way I think Maliki Collins. At twenty four years old has a chance to take another step. He's in that age area where he's only gonNA get better. He's hitting his prime. He's working with Rod Maranello, his former defensive line coach with the Dallas Cowboys who's now with the raiders I think that combination and playing alongside some other dynamic players is going to set him up for a potentially pro bowl, caliber season and I can't wait to watch what he brings to the table. I also go to Tantrum use. raiders drafted him in the third round out of Clemson he. He was a safety at Clemson. He's moving to linebacker. with the raiders think for that reason. Studio 360 Extra: Aural History: How Studio 360 Got Started
"Invited the rock the World Wrestling Federation champion to speak at the Republican National Convention. Pupil sock it to me. I became an official painter. I don't express political desires in my novels. I just tell story. Hello I'm Chris Anderson and this is studio three six. That's how studio three sixty began. Its first episode on November. Four two thousand just before we elected George W Bush and we all learned what a hanging Chad was my special guest today in Studio. Three sixty is the artist. Barbara Kruger. Who will talk with us about politics and power in movies and music and even in her own art? I make art about the collision of my days and nights with the culture that has constructed and contains me all that and more coming up in studio three sixty from WNYC and PRI public radio international originally produced out of WNYC. Here in New York. The show is all about the cool but complicated and sometimes strange ways that art touches our lives two decades later. That mission hasn't changed. Even if the people making the show have come and gone I'm Jocelyn Gonzalez executive producer of studio three sixty but I was still wet behind the ears associate producer when the show debuted two decades ago. I was away from the show for about ten years before returning to the staff in two thousand seventeen so as the show draws to a close sadly after twenty years I turned to some of my friends from the formative years of studio three sixty for their impressions. Could we create these beautiful stories that represent all sorts of interesting things that are going on in the country in terms of arts and then have Kurt sit with some of that? He was comfortable with and talk about them. That's Julie Bursting who was executive producer of studio three sixty when the show launched and who wrote the studio three sixty book called spark in two thousand eleven and this is Carrie Hillman who was our first senior producer and is now the executive producer at story car. At the time there had been a lot of magazines shows and it was a way for us to sort of do something different and fresh and it was like a a really creative solution to like a lot of really boring magazine. Formatted programming so I was like really game to try to figure it out. We also had two assistant producers. I'm Michelle Seagull. I started at studio three sixty as a assistant producer. In September of two thousand. I stayed through twenty thirteen as a pretty Sir and I'm now the managing producer of Sleet Studios I'm Tall Milad and I started at St Three Sixty as an intern in the year. Two Thousand and I was there until two thousand fifteen When I left I was senior producer of the show for about ten years before that and I now work at Pushkin Industries Heading up development also on staff during the early days of the show was producer and technical director. Steve Nelson Steve's now a programming executive at NPR Johnson. Do you remember what the working title was when we got there? Oh yeah hot ticket right which is first of all a terrible name and doesn't get to any of the big ideas that studio three sixty does as a name but secondly this is sort of in the relatively this was during the post dotcom boom and someone typed in hot ticket dot com into a website and it was an adult site for general audiences for sure. That was the end of hot ticket as a name every week. Studio three sixty we explore. One big idea in-depth. Today we look at the intersections of art and medicine. The idea of studio three sixty or an art show for public radio had been kind of kicking around for a long time. People were on the ground producing pieces. Trying to sort of see what would stick Eventually they brought Julie Burstein and she had this idea of like putting on pieces that sort of built on one another in having an artist or somebody else react to each piece. We started calling it a through line which was just an idea that we would carry through the show and I think the idea of having a theme came from we have to have some structure in order inside it to be able to play. The idea was that Kurt would open the show with a monologue is always delightful to look back and see that exotic bits of civilization. John Ashcroft was a senator his most celebrated crusade a failed crusade for some years. Now one of my hobby horses has been the blurring lines between news politics crime or and entertainment and then he would have a person in the studio with him and then we would present pre recorded pieces to play for this person. I try in my work to speak to the human in US and That human end to bear kind of witness and in enabled react to it. That's really fascinating That makes me think of this. Yes we looked a lot at the degeneration of people's memories and one of the pieces of research we discovered is precisely why I found listening to that piece so fascinating so it would give us an opportunity. Say something that took them off of their typical talking points that gave us an insight into the way they think their personality It also added some depth. I think to the the pieces themselves because you can't do everything in five minutes and so maybe you have to like leave something on the cutting room floor but you can resurrect it a little bit with with the like well-placed Kirk question so I thought it was really cool. I loved gathering stories from really disparate places and putting them next to each other and then talking about them. It was just so much fun. Do you remember a point when you realize it was working? I have to say. I think that first Shakespeare show because it was a whole show bringing Shakespeare up-to-date but we had Neil Gaiman Willie's just grumbling about the fact that he's a crappy writer and the San man the eponymous Lord of the rings who happens to be in this up goes over to will and offices deal are you will shakespeare. I have we met. We have but men forget in waking hours. And you and Steve or maybe it was Steve. That incredible intro He started it with Scharzenegger's hang on not to be not to be tied in the phase of man when in disgrace with fortune and men's on have we hear. Hello I'm curt Anderson and Mrs Studio Three six. It was so hilarious and it was just. It was like okay. We got it this works. I'm Peter Clowney and I was studio three six I Adler and these days I live in Saint Paul and I'm vp of content strategy for stitcher. It's a struggle sometimes to do a show. That has a theme I approach. That idea would caution now if someone wants to do a show that theme like to say like remember. It's got multiple pieces in it. You're going to have the fifth favourite piece about Gardens in this episode. But it's true that like building on the ideas across an hour is like really meaningful. My name is Eric Linski. I started as an intern. In two thousand four became assistant producer and then decided to become a contributing reporter of which I was to studio three sixty through the beginning of two thousand sixteen and I am now the host and creator of the podcast imaginary worlds. Yeah I remember this one episode where they had Madeleine Albright the through line theme was democracy and so she's sitting in the studio with Kurt and then one of the pieces was about American idol. Which was the hottest thing back? Then and they were talking about how people were taking American idol democracy far more seriously than actual presidential elections. Have you ever had a chance to see American idol? Well I actually have and I've been pretty depressed As I am by television generally these days which seems to be going to the lowest common denominator and I. I don't like the word Elitism as we kind of lost me on this last segment of him and it was really funny here. Man Albright come out of that piece. And what do you think of that? She was not too thrilled with the peace to quality that piece but what she was hearing in the piece. I'm Derek John. I was a producer and editor on the show from about two thousand four to two thousand twelve ish and since then I've done a whole bunch of work in the podcast world but I am now currently an executive producer of the how to with Charles Duhig podcasts. At slate when the theme through line shows worked man they were amazing. I mean it was like we had set this high bar and they were so hard to pull up when they clicked and everything fit together. It was truly fantastic radio and it was hard I would say we had some shows that weren't successful and that's actually what led to having to change one. Really terrible through line. Thematic show was fish the fish just literal fish in the sea. Animals really jumped the shark on that one

Because i found that i was dreading it. I wasn't writing someone like you but like people. I'm afraid trade of like i just it. Just it was just something. I wasn't looking forward to anymore. Who are you afraid of. That's on your podcast komo news. I don't know my point is i should schefter. Some people don't like it. I get a spin off pod for lending this just rude okay my first question so you come from fantasy background i know and and i mentioned earlier about getting jacoby myers in my league with danny kelly. Give our listeners sleeper pick for the look. Look on your face so prepared based on preseason like someone that you're excited about receiver running back cume even just someone that you feel like you know if you were in a dynasty league with me and danny kelly that you go after the later rounds. Perhaps mark andrews. Does that count count. No he's like a top is either looked. I looked at back. He's gotta be like a top seven tight end you must be. I don't think he is no met. Lacrosse us lacrosse even his name that causes lacoste. Don't judge me later in the season when i make a joke on twitter about him having that lacrosse insanely unprepared for fantasy in general james white. I know that's so boring but i honestly think there's every six years. Here's kevin faulk would just catch ninety passes in this. Is that okay james white year sir do when you're or an airplane you prefer to sit in the window of the aisle and why why changed overall. I'd say window actually because i don't want to be disturbed. I want the option to sleep. I don't have to be really aware of the people next to me at hat all. I'm the same way also. I'm convinced people are looking at my computer. When you're in the window you can kind of tilt your computer away. The other thing is i just rarely have to go to the bathroom. I'm i'm just like a tank so strange flex but with kids though that it changes the equation a little bit so there there with me then that changes but i'm like i'm the size of a twelve year old girl so it's like i don't mind i don't mind you should have been in our booth last week. Question three. I talked to kevin clark about this all the time which is the nature of various n._f._l. Twitter fan bases and who is the best the worst and the angriest. Oh my gosh i would love to write that article entire podcast about n._f._l. Twitter fan bases and cause because it's such a great idea seattle's a very strange range one. I think it's fair to say with very unique character totally really smart though and fun. I like the seahawks well. Who's the worst twitter fan base you see okay and i don't think it's like a mainstream like the cowboys are too big for example right like the like people get..

"Bush seems ahead of that and i didn't think that that first performance was great but then when i watched it it's like he dominated. He was solid against the starters. I made a couple of mistakes and dominated the backups but whatever if you're a rookie that can step in week one and already be playing that position. That's impressive. They think that he's the real really. I made the mistake of reading about it before watching it. You know then went back and watched the first few drive the mistake of writing about him. I mean he he. He was listen. Listen for all with all. The caveats was good but it was not the next he wasn't body like they have a really good secondary to and i just think the team around him better. I suit wait. Let's stop there. I think the steelers are s- like sneaky one of the flying into four or five super bowl favorites like. I thought they were last year too and nothing. The happened really changed my mind on that. I'm worried about the offense at all but i don't think the secondary is good. Why do you think it's good well. Maybe i'm buying the hype but they in those. Those are the training camp articles. That cameron sutton is there. Is there training camp m._v._p. Already burns's had a good <hes>. There are a little steven nelson. I like joe haden <hes> <hes> edmund the other edmonds supposedly looked really good that it's a it's a solid enough secondary. I just think they're a team without any the whole they're the kind of they're kind of like the chargers how i always look at the chargers like they they have no holes the holes that i would have pinned on the steelers i would have been the secondary <hes> and then to find it's fine. I think beyond this is. I actually hate saying this. I was gonna after doodoo you the skill players but it's dealers they can turn you know a starbucks barista into the next best wide receiver so all right speaking of training camp height we got we got two more names and and i wanna ask you about a guy who's gotten a lot of hype and who i get a chance to watch inaction sword of in hawaii and that's killing more and i didn't talk about this. I said one like dorky thing during the game about pre snap motion and house how kind of nice to see the cowboys do that dorky things. Do you have in your holster that you can't get out so many and like don't you. Do you ever just just like here andrew sicilian oh. I don't want to get you in trouble but say like some us. Cuba wins as a staff. Just one been there. Well are are are from usual friend m. j. d. poke me on the running stuff and he but the one thing i noticed when i watched this game and wanted to die listening to boys but there were a few things that communism moore wasn't just the use of motion and some actual variation shen in the receiver usage <hes> and how the receivers were used but there was a touchdown touchdown that it was pollard tony parker generational running back <hes> they were in eleven so he had defense spread. It was just something like you know when you think scott lenihan and the cowboys last two ears you think of them just like bunching everyone up marching out there too tight ends to block and just trying to slam zeke elliot through the line and that's not what you saw and so. I'm not buying the high necessarily early but i think there's definitely going to be a significant amount of upside in this cowboys offense. No doubt i mean i think they got by with their talent and being a quote unquote execution offense but they're like that on defense through you know we talked about the ravens. Being tough to prepare for the cowboys have been the easiest team in the n._f._l. To to prepare for and the fact that kellen moore i think is going to do a lot of things. Different is gonna make them very difficult. In september assuming assuming ezekiel elliott's backer amari cooper is back. That's kind of been under the radar that he hasn't practiced at all this month..

"It's been a really positive passing month month. Hey we love to see it and they play the cardinals dolphin well that were first week. They played a worse late of run defenses in the n._f._l. So it's like ah you know. Run run run might get bored early before he plays the dolphins in the cardinals. I want to do this quickly because i don't have a ton to sit to. We don't have time to say yeah. I wanna talk about devin bush and when i looked up i wanted to see what you have first game. He comes out. He has ten tackles seven solo. <hes> he is okay he. He was good. He was really good he but i wanted to see if steelers fans were overreacting acting it all and when i just kind of google news the first thing that came up was a article on a steelers site saying devon bush's now bobby wagner so that's where we are as a nation you know whenever i was here i mean over the last year and a half or so not when but whenever we look at this team whenever we look at this roster whenever we look at the ways that we struggle it always comes back to ryan this year and that whole in the middle of the field how much if he is i'm bobby wagner but if he is you know a rookie of the year defensive rookie of the year candidate. How much do you think affects this. Team's playoff. Chances helps it so much because i was their biggest from last year. They make their inside. Linebackers look better than they really are. Because devan hardgrave and stefan the lions were awesome although they need to be a a little more like he was a couple of years ago he he's exactly what they need. It's a really tough position to get right from the start because he's calling the plays. I think they'll probably rotate didn't do so like three guys you know and i think you you might not play every single snap but i think thank you know edmonds from the bills. Last year is a great example where he was swimming and it was a total liability for half the season was awesome the last six games when he kinda clicked mentally in devon..

"Well. There's a million interesting questions. Can you accuracy improve over time can and i think can i. I a lot of people dispute that but <hes> to me if josh allens allen's upside is or comp potentially is cam newton lamar's vic and vic we saw did go on to have like an extremely extremely accurate season right <hes> with andy later on in his career so i do think it's possible but <hes> beyond the question of whether or not he can grow as a passer how sir i think it's debatable. How good of a passer he needs to be because as you pointed out in this piece his running ability the compass vic. There's no other player greg that it comes to mind for me who is his electric is the difference is that n._f._l. Is different. No-one vic came out now. I think people would know how to use them. He was playing for who's anti on it and read yeah. That was jim jim mora. It's like they had no idea. Mike malarkey was an offensive coordinator there. I think it's like they didn't know what to do and they are building the offense around lamar jackson and i don't think he needs to be that great of a passer because his running opens up so much any has has the perfect coordinator and greg roman who at least is going to go for it like i. You never know if it's going to work but i was a camp in mark. Ingram said just the the volume of the types of running plays in formations are outrageous. They say oh. You can't reveal anything in the preseason. If you watch the ravens collect can't help but lineup in a different formation every snap because that's all they they do. They're gonna get wide then. They're gonna condense. They're going to go. I formation. They're gonna do a little bit of everything and that's that's so significant lamar jackson to me the best runner since michael vick. It's by like a lot any turn gus edwards into a top five back. I mean gus. Edwards had more yards than christian mccaffrey at zeke elliott down the stretch last year always underestimate the effect of a dual threat quarterback doc on the running back and the offensive line by the way how much offensive lines can benefit from that something. You saw a lot with russell wilson for his first couple of years of seattle. It's no coincidence that russell wilson <unk> comes into seattle and marshawn lynch is careers. Suddenly you know revived. You're just adding an extra dude on the field who can take off that run the ad in week two what was it was called back for the house watching that i just thought i had was he's better than most running backs. Oh yeah i mean he's down so much more explosive and you know i i. I'm very excited to see what this ravens offense does. I've seen this podcast because it's it's not just oh ceron. It's not it's not an old school..

"I don't know i have i'm now. I think i'm often i'm now official. I've been there. I've had them in the conference championship. I think before the season started three straight years last year. They got close enough where i think i'm i'm just going to retire. I'm feeling bad vibes but i think it's because you look at the top of their roster and the speed of ten difference makers and they act they have depth and when you're doing the thing that you've done all the division previews that you do and you just kind of look at the depth turns. There's always defense in was right. It always looks pretty like it looks like they have a smart approach. Tom to lasco's been really good at it doesn't get more heat because he's so boring like he he does he doesn't he's not a self promoter. A lot of it is just yeah you know. Do they wanna talk and when he does talk he's not he doesn't give up anything but he drafts really well and james injuries a killer though because he's the guy that does x. that if everyone on that defense offense who's really good does their job like he's the one in both the one that's gonna do the extra that kinda makes. Everyone better especially the safety group like during james. James made that group better now. You're at the time of the year where you know back in june. Everyone's slotting okay drafted into sierra early. That'll be great. He'll he'll start next. The german james and this is the time of year. Usually you realize oh he's not ready or in the case of adderley he hasn't practiced all month and the odds on him playing anytime early in the season and are very high and then suddenly you have a problem there so we do. We do this exercise. You saw at e._s._p._n. Dot com where we built like ten in person teams for the next three years like i took mahomes you took you know i didn't take a running back. I took deandre hopkins wins. Whatever and i think everybody took during i don't have it in front of me but it's just such a no brainer right. I mean i think sometimes the idea of like d._b.'s. D._b.'s who are multiple gets a little bit overblown today when we talk about oh well these days you know nicholas a new base and you need a d._v._d. Can do everything on the field but he literally he can play every frigging position and he was on the field. <hes> ninety nine percent of defensive snaps corner stats and info. I mean you just like nick only the only in the n._f._l..

"If i just had to guess that they want someone to come to them with a good offer maybe they will get one but i think they want a veteran saturn player and i think it's basically because they don't have a left tackle and so bad teams are always having having the same problems year after year like they can't fix the same problem and now the texans seem like they're trying to fix that problem by trading away the most important player in bill o'brien's only playoff victory. I think that was the guy i happen to be at that game. Which is a ton of games. I go to the playoffs but that was like the judean cloudy a moment like people talk about having cloudy like he's heard a lot. He's played among the top. Five edge rusher snaps over the last three years. I mean he doc plays nine hundred steps a year. He is crazy because he always finishes the year incredibly strong like he's a different player november december and the playoffs then he's been which is what what you think you want yeah. I think the only way it would make sense to me is if they got williams and i don't know what kind of picks would be involved often that but if it was the seahawks for example i can see is not going to give him a first for him. You know maybe a second which again i i agree. I don't think it's worth it. I do think it'd be interesting for seattle because it's really that would just be like talent bet right if they gave him a high pick. They'd be the seok sang. We liked today cloudy more than frank clark which you know what to each their own. I'm not sure i agree with that personally. It's a different skill set cloudy you would. I know he's not. He doesn't have like pass rush moves but he is in. Maybe they don't think that skill set will age well but he is. Maybe the strongest player in the n._f._l. Pass rush move is essentially pushed the guy in front of him into the quarterback or get by and it and it works like that's what he does great run clark stuff for now just a run stuffer. Even if you're like you know dropping him into coverage. I only only put that out there because the seahawks just seem like one of the only teams that would be kinda crazy enough. It's done stuff just like doing stuff like that right. You mentioned the rams who i would also put into that category as teams that are crazy enough to do it and all in and the one i would just haven't been around the team a little bit lately <hes> <hes> they're really high on dante fowler. He looks like amazing and practice. Oh you know we'll see so. That's always been not get another one but you're right. I mean they would they would have a hard time. I think they would rather allocate the cap elsewhere trade for clowney. You're just hoping basically to get a great year out of them and that you do get get the advantage of three weeks to negotiate with them exclusively and you're thinking this is a guy we'd want to invest in long term and we give him that one hundred ten million dollar contract next february so the trent williams william saying i'm a there's another person of interest for which that would come up later so i'm going to put a pin in that and and 'cause actually it's not want washington. I want to talk about them anymore. But i wanna talk about different member of that houston football team but before it gets that my next person is we're starting on on a really depressing note. Here is derwin erwin james yeah. I hate this so for those who don't who are blessed n._f._l. Twitter. I don't even know how due to explain it. Why do n._f._l. Writers all of the chargers so much. I am fascinated to see if bill o'brien wants to make the first move of the bill o'brien era where he's just totally in charge trading away djiboutian clowning so you you think he's completely in charge because obviously there's no one in charge in houston right now yeah. I think he's in charge. I think he's been most in charge the whole time i mean i think y'all you gotta do is look at what's happened. Rick smith and him had what was not even a secret fight essentially essentially going on behind the scenes for years of which bill o'brien one <hes> e- e- got brian gain out of the building. I have like i wonder in my mind. It's the most usually people don't have to see this. <hes> i want to say first of all i do not. I think they should have paid him. I believe and i wanna get your take on this. I think think they should have given them a long term. Extension now the argument against it is the single digits sacks right and and it's like how do you pay this this guy who's pay him like leap pass rusher like orange or khalil mack if he's putting up nine nine and a half sacks to which i would respond well one. His quarterback hits are usually in the same county actually had more clear mac over the last two years <hes> so it's not like he's not disrupting the quarterback. He's also significantly better run-defender than those guys in my opinion and they use them differently in that text and so i wanted to start off by saying if i was the g._m. In houston i would have paid him. How do you feel about that. You'd have a lot godless job security. Yeah i totally agree. I mean this goes into one of my favorite heartaches which hasn't really caught on which is salary salary. Cap space is incredibly overrated. Not only like the whole idea of you better win in that window with your rookie quarterback you know before. They got that big deal. Even that's overrated because most teams don't use all their salary cap space especially not the last few years they're starting to a little more houston has forty a million dollars in cap space. I don't get like why why wouldn't you be signing to me. That is wasting resources. If you think about all the teams like the browns or through the colts or the raiders are all these teams at the beginning of this c._b._a. We're in a bad spot and then i thought okay. Let's create a lot of salary cap space..

"Of almost for show and then you end up reading about on their next you wanna know what it's about and then nine thirty minutes go by and you've read recaps five seasons because you really wanted to know who the person i love those commercials 'cause they're ones that now now i can't remember any of them could say them all by heart on sunday afternoons and we watch all the games like the guys that do the podcast with at around the n._f._l. We watch all the games together. So you know those commercials their user. Show called the mayor. I think this one's a._b._c. I can't remember but i had a friend who was a writer on the mayor. It's called at a party was talking to him and i just recited the promo for the mayor my heart because i had seen it so many times during football games anyways we are going to talk about persons of interest and you could put jimmy into that category. I put them there. Would you put in there okay. I ah there's that red alert system. I don't know what the different there's yellow orange red. Where are you green and green yellow orange red yellow but i would've been before camp started right because the last season because of it was only three games but it wasn't a great rough three games like he held the ball really long along in those three games i keep in mind with him his reputation in new england that he was never that good in practice people didn't love to in practice and then when he played in games he was is great for the most part yes but you do look at the people that have started started eleven games in in his career and like the you know that is ah you're eight games for the forty niners like the other people that have started eleven games this decade. I think we're like t j. Yates was one of them c._j. Beathard is one of them like he's. He's almost a rookie in terms of his experience and it's worth wondering if he fits with kyle shanahan who does a kirk cousins but yeah no. I agree i so for those who missed. It probably should get some context..

"On n._f._l. Dot com leaving out greg. No that's about it. We'd we'd do enough podcast. I was really looking forward to hearing the intro song like the most banging podcast intro in the game but didn't get to you know all right. You don't see that's the problem because i think i think s need to hear it to get into that right mentality. It's like a pre game warm up. It's like a jock jam kind of i. I'm like amazed. You don't just kind of like bump along to every time i usually do when i'm at home and i'm glad no one sees that greg. How are you enjoying the preseason. I love it <hes>. I'm ready for it to be over this time of year that like you're just excited excited about like i could talk in to talk too much about like every team and player is kind of equally fascinating but now you're at the point of the preseason. We're just like okay. Let's get on with it. I read so pro. Football focus does these kind of stock up stock dunn's reports after every game and i always find myself reading them and then halfway through this person. I'm not going to need the name of his person. Most of the time <hes> you know during the regular season but i read them anyways because how well puna florida's a name name you will know very soon we know from last year he made humane real ones now yeah and like in media gets more access this i i mean it's kind of a sneaky far. I've been reading a lot like the athletic. I feel like is kind of killing it right now and the general like because the rest of the year you can't watch practice actus not real practice and this is the only time of year that you watch practice and the things that they learn in the first twenty days like players that show up in are just different players like like those that carries over a lot that shape their life not that so much just like like any article that has a preseason m._v._p. And i'm all about. Do you feel like this. He's he's in. Do you think the quality plays it all diminished because that's kind of a conversation around the n._f._l. Now obviously the rams barely early playing their starters it it some teams do though like i turned on the saints game the other night and avocado. I was playing like deep into the second quarter so it's obviously the very team two team. It's less important. I mean because more teams are following sean mcvay of just sitting everyone the patriots pretty much have the jaguars the goals the bears. It's growing. They've basically eliminated two games of the preseason right and they're going to. I think this is like next year is the is the last time we'll get. You think that they're headed tour. I mean i don't think eighteen games happening but it seems to me like the expanded playoff field shorter shorter preseason is gaining a little bit of heat right now. It's a little less has been complaining about the preseason. Since the was signed. He's been pretty consistent. Whether i do actually think though find a way to knock it down to two or three kyle shanahan said it well he wants one game to kind of knock the rust off and one to see all the guys at the bottom of the roster speaking of knocking the rust off forty niners game. Did you catch this is before we get into the conceit of this show which i'll just explain i wanna talk about. People of interest person of interest was a a c._b._s. Show from two thousand six eleven through fifteen. I think i i know this. I never saw the show. I used to see the promos. This is the thing if you watch la n._f._l. You end up just knowing so many c._b._s. Procedures that you will never watch right like do you remember the there was maybe this was a._b._c. There was a detective show where one of the texas was a robot eric kinda like chaffee but and i felt like i knew you so much about this show but then i realized it had just been submitted into my consciousness from watching promos during football games of interest was show with taraji p henson was on it and the only reason i actually it was do you ever do the thing where you see a bunch.
