"He hasn't seen it the past twenty minutes. He's been shitting on it. He's pau fee. He's been shitting on Melissa mccarthy and leslie jones like just the fact that it was all females and their best rising my childhood way but you've never even he didn't see the movie though i mean it's on. Hey real real. I'm a firm. I haven't actually seen any ghostbusters movies. but i a firm believer of nothing is ruining your childhood because you know who the movie is for kids and remember that movie that came out when your kid is for kids as well as star wars being maybe the most extreme example of this because there was a thirty year gap or whatever between some of the movies. But it's not ruining your childhood because you know who the new ones for kids and then you know who the next ones are. Also for kids and you know. He's not a kid anymore. You as so. I'm sorry that you don't like ray. Who loves her kids. And that's just kind of what's four and can't get dirty happened was bad. It was good whatever. It wasn't already happened. And if you could take a time machine back to your childhood and do you know you have bigger problems than the star. Wars that you'd be like trying to solve nine eleven and solidly or we get on early and if you that your childhood is the happiest time of your life like you need to the best therapy. That is in the best tickets. That isn't piece of that that people do not acknowledge acknowledges like the crowd of people who like these movies are running my childhood. Like that's the biggest problem. There's like you are glorifying your childhood because you've not moved on since and like that is hardly central. Just let you could still go back. And you know the cool part about the old ghostbusters. They recorded all of them. And so you can go back and watch them and they have them all over. You can get them in multiple mediums and pretty much anything and the new one. You know who it's for the people who are that age that you are when you saw ghostbusters and change your life. And that's why. If i see ghostbusters for the first time now i bet i don't go by a poster and i you know because it's not for me any for kids while also that i think that's why like you know they're doing the new sequel. That has their cast as radical. I do alyssa. Jones was like what the fuck because it's she centrally like they just raised what we did and they're just going back to the original so it's like oh fuck their efforts and i i get it i get. That's that's that's a crazy feeling especially given that the studio really car have their backs away. I thought they should've with all the backlash with a the casting announce and stuff. But it's hollywood baby. It's funny just to give a little inside like window into the between period of those two events was lake me and my writing partner. Were pitching stuff to sony at. The time goes court was like Jason reitman and i've arrangements company. That was just doing those ghostbuster movies in inbetween. This new one. That's coming out and that Christine whitman they were basically trying to the goal was to have like a ghostbusters universe. So they were taking pitches. Things that like tangentially ghostbusters oriented Either it had something to do with an event in a ghostbusters. It was like a side piece if you will and then when that movie came out and then had like very very bad numbers like they're bad reviews and stuff each meeting subsequently it became less and less about like involving ghostbusters in their thing and i remember like our last meeting with them was like you know what have you guys just came up with like a horror movie and it's like you know paranormal thing at the end. Like maybe there's a reference to a ghostbuster you know basically clusters jason thing. Now just there might be a reference to they watch ten cloverfield lane and they were like you know what we need you to do is make the version of that. That's in the ghost these you should you should do is just put out ten cloverfield lane the movie but when i don't know if you guys have seen it i don't want to spoil. It's actually really great movie job. Good right yeah i look. I don't think it's real great. And so spoiler you can take your headphones off At the end maybe she she when she finally escapes at the end of it instead of being in the cloverfield universe. There's just the state. Puff marshmallow man is outside instead of cloverfield universe. Then boom you got ten ghostbuster lane. Also they should have known that there was coalfield. Universe guys address had john movies worth watching just because that's the prime example of how horror movie performances never get acknowledged for awards. Even though john goodman should have won an oscar for it. it's the best can possibly be. He's so good it's almost like it makes sense if you think you can act and then you watch that you're right. Do you know what i mean. It's like and it happens sometimes with horror movies but no one cares about him and i go on that tangent too often on this podcast no one cares about them action movies and then i feel like of violence with william hurt showing bet there is also i mean he got a nomination for that like rightfully so that move for ten minutes and absolutely put on an acting clinic and it's it's athletes. Price won that oscar. But like that's like an action movies never get nominated. What's the lowest screen time of an oscar when you know what this is a whole different. Podcast davis i think she was seven minutes. I think judy dench from shakespeare in love. Okay i think. I haven't had moving along like a few minutes only in that. For like a two scenes i feel like i haven't seen silence of the lambs. How much is he actually in the movie. Oh he's a nubia me as one of those movies that he might barely be in. And then is one of the shorter. Before mrs for best actor i because i did some research or anthony hopkins. After he won the father. And i remember reading something about his win for hannibal lecter. I think it's like the shortest amount for not onscreen ninety percent of the movie. No it's jodie foster's movie but he is. It's interesting that the movie holds up like extremely extremely well and it's interesting because like i feel like his screen time in those sequels is also not. That isn't a second one which socks he's in a lot but like he's not in the other ones that much he's not in red dragon at all. Red dragon tight. I i haven't been to that universe at all. Isn't there whole television show. That also isn't red dragon. The john batchelor thing and yet hannibal. The tv show is one of the best tv shows. I've ever seen in my life. it's awesome it's fairly glory. i don't know how. Nbc air that stuff when it first came on. but it's a netflix. It's amazing that's awesome. Check it out. Also netflix and is amazing. Edward norton is hit or miss man. That's fair..

This is apps brutal brutal. Oh man okay. So my horror i am going with. Should i even go her at this point because of how everything is going Yes okay so i will go are and i'm going ten cloverfield lane. Ooh you put it in horror. Yes it is a horror movie is a sequel to cloverfield. Do that's fantastic. Yeah one once. He took terrified. Because actually now that i can reveal a little bit of more strategy. I was actually going to put ten cloverfield leinen sequel but once and terrified and horror but once ryan took that it kind of just fucked me and i said all right whatever i'll put it there go far. You have la la land in blockbuster. Head cloverfield landon horror. Yes batman v superman in action and arrival and sci-fi. Yes followed man. Now now it's when it gets a little tough because where i'm going to get screwed. I think it's going to be sequels because I'm not sure where to go there anymore. I'm definitely going comedy now because you guys are just like destroy me. Yeah you guys have absolutely butchered me here. I have to one to that. I'm going to that. I'm looking at right now. And i can remember. There were amazing comedy. Is this year such as such for. It's funny because i know ryan hasn't picked ryan. Did you put deadpool blockbuster comedy walk. Most of yeah yeah. he knows. We're not picking sausage party. Cy guaranteed that probably ryan's last pick. I love that you. And i both had as our as our comedy because it fits so well in there. Oh yeah absolutely. A comedy. And i did drama yet. All right so ten cloverfield lane is my horror. I don't think you're gonna grab my drama so for comedy. I'm gonna go the nice guys. Ooh yes i feel. Good the nice guys as my comedy. Ryan gosling russell. Crowe really funny stuff And that was it right. I wouldn't tinkle. Okay all right. Go for leo. Aright has been very emotional draft. I don like halfway done so far. I have captain. America's civil war is my blockbuster rogue one a star wars story as my sequel. Light is my drama. Zootopia is which leaves me with my horror which you guys already picks i literally last neck and take another horror movie or am i remember. We my comedy like action and my sifi It sucks because sepals now. Is i completely fucked on sequels. There's a lot of sequels. But i see your point but like in terms of good sequels. I don i don't. There's not that many good ones think i'm gonna go. Oh you know what. I know where i'm going. I'm going to hope that. I can just get the fans of this franchise. 'cause i don't even know which one of the movies this is but for action. I'm going to go with the fast and the furious is was there. One in two thousand sixteen was one. I think it's the last one with paul walker furious seven. That's james one one right. I don't know which one it is. You can always count on the fence. Sorry leo that is incorrect. Furious seven came out in two thousand fifteen really. Yes i looked it up right now at all in that year. No they don't do back to back do every other after the love. You should be disqualified. Lose your rogue one pick alcorn that's bidding schmidt. Yes all right all right all right all right Then i lost the fast and furious. Fans what have you gained you. Respect back listen. Can i help you. Can i guide you here. I think he's the thing. I think i'm gonna go with this. There is an x. Men movie that too right there for the taking all your right. There's next movie. Right there. And i know you hate it and i hate it to just say. Or there's another dc movie. That's right there for the taking that i know ryan may pick like if that would definitely gonna go to ryan. I'm not taking that movie. Took rhode one for me. No wonder Or scifi to go star trek beyond nice. That's a solid pick. No heating on that. I actually like that one a lot. That's i think the only one that actually feels like a traditional star trek show because they're actually on a mission on another planet type of thing. So i actually did like that sucks it. That was the last one. But that's a good pick ryan. You are up. Destroyed every fucking draft so for all right. I'm going with the that Ben affleck you the bomb in the accountant. Yo for my drama okay. Cool cool cool now. we're now. We're i thought you were going to go. But all right great well the minute that he took rogue one on my drama had research row clerks and the only other drummer. So that's a good thing shit now nowhere to go. There were amazing comedies. This year i get stuck with. Sausage party are night. 'cause i've said it so many times me screw you over me i. I have a feeling right. May screw you over and say you know what. I'm not going to do it. I have looking. These are my baden's three. These are my Condemn see-no-evil and the marine dave savage. You wanna talk about minimum casts ongoing action. I'm going to go with. We guys suspect me. I'm going with the first twenty minutes. Who is i squad. Nope you're going with the whole garden. You enjoy that garbage. Eat it and oh man. I don't feel. I still feel yucky too. Don't get me wrong. But i don't feel as yucky as you do right now. That's in your actions lot. Yes so i have for me. I have drama left. I have sequel left. And i have flex left. What are you so leo. Europe ended onto horror comedy action. I'm curious what you're going with action honestly action. I.

Furious seven james ryan Zootopia first twenty minutes two thousand fifteen Ryan gosling russell ten cloverfield leinen This year paul walker fast and the furious Ben both Crowe three cloverfield this year ten cloverfield lane furious seven deadpool

One of them was going off and it was trailing a little bit of smoke, and the other one was pretty much a viable cargo plane with eight people aboard made an emergency landing. The jet pilot ejected before that plane crashed in the desert near Salt City. A federal judge in San Diego is blocked fee increases for citizenship. "And he's universal and slightly mad studios that made the excellent project 'cause. I just WANNA WANNA as the fun fast furious. He was excited to play it. You were last night. You're like Oh yes and then a plate. Two thirds of it yesterday, and is the biggest pile of poop. Ever played. Is seriously it's like it's like Made Big Palo Pill. Well, the weird thing is it's one of those games where is actually another fast and furious movie but it's a video game right so. All the actors are in. Vin Diesel Michelle Rodriguez. Tirees they're all in their all. Their voices not somebody impersonate in them and it scripted by the people who do the fast furious and it's this. It's this story racing game. So you you do a bit of a story and then you race from one place to another or you'll do some stuff. You'll be in a race you know like in the movies like I was supposed to be. Put the game plays so bad is singular like it's like drive from point eight to point B. There's no open world. Is just like drive along this road, you'll be driving along the road and then bodies will come that. You'll have to smash off the road. and every levels kind of the same thing really and the activities bad. It's actually worse than it is in the movies. Vin Diesel is like. He's pretty cowboy, Disney movies here. He's he's actually going over. His best. Cardboard performance. Because he's you know he crosses his arms and he says finally. Family a lot in the bad guys are a family to. Turns out the bad guy. He's played by pizzas stomack who I love the fuck. Are you doing in this? And the the bad guy played pizza storm as. You kind of looks like and the guess what the bad guys motto is family. Oh. Jeez. So the whole thing is just it's all spending a lot of time talking about this game. You hate it is like she tells it's crappy in that. So if you like me in idiots and you're like like the fast and furious. And you like I'll buy a game with fast and furious written on it and then waste your money. I'd like to people out there not to waste the money on this poop. Israel. Called fast and the furious crossroads. So if you're at a crossroads. Thinking should I buy this on? Take the other way. opposite. I was going to say go the way that Paul Walker would go away from all don't say that. Member at the end of the movie whether it was the two roads in the. Saying that dead he is. Also, in this game, they mentioned Paul Junior a couple of times goodness because there is a little baby policy in the franchise, they don't show you him, but they do talk about. Way like. So, that's what I've been playing this week. Well, you get in Finot making I'm not making anything I'm getting in the car and driving to your favorite. The impossible. The impossible Wa also like hellofresh a few more days. Fantastic fantastic. Isn't it? It really is fantastic. We're not like schilling for them because we actually had issues with them this week. Right remember the. Missing a card machine. So missing some something else. There's something else missing Oh. Tall t Israel smashed Oh. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they're not perfect. Sometimes you open the box and you're like Oh crap. A thing missing cream cheese was missing one week. Correct but they're good. They fix it on a dish. Heavily relied on in cream cheese in it. disagree with that completely, it was fine without it. So then we One thing I can tell you if you contact them via the chat on the website, you don't even need to speak to a person. They'll always credit you back in. The I said the cream cheese is missing and they give you like eleven dollars back. Yeah Jesus. Does. So now but their promises we're giving your dinner, you just have to cook it right? Not Go out and get cream cheese because missing. Don't have cream cheese in case we forget it. But we're not like a shell for them or anything. We just bought our own bomb we've been eating. Healthy and it's it's limited calories. So tasted butter and cream and are better in fat and stuff is not particularly healthy. It's just nice ingredients getting. A mounts. So what is your advice and then we'll get out of here. My advice is that I'm not the most sympathetic session pathetic or compassionate person. It's not part of my DNA. I'm all or nothing either deepen on the emotion or not But I understand that when you are troubled confused, you've had a terrible shitty thing happened or you perceive it as a terrible she thing and yeah sometimes it's just in our head. That poor US having trouble that no one else has ever experienced in for me and Blah Blah Blah. which isn't true. 'cause whatever you're experiencing will have existed in the world someone else understands what you're going through used to fill alone. And part of that suffering and struggle people often bring up things like why me why is this happening to me? Why are we here? What is the purpose of all this? What's the meaning all this and then you kind of fold that into your expectations of other people are now supposed to sympathize and empathize with you. I'm not a religious person. We put this out there and believing anything at all don't have any nothing like I don't I'm not a spiritual and I'm putting in in quotation marks person at all I don't have any of it. It doesn't. Part of me, and here's why all those questions that people often ask, and then they all kind of bond together in the I don't know there's a plan kind of thing. I don't have those questions. And at wonder about why right I don't wonder about. I mean if there's something that happens and then you can figure out why or how it came to be and you want to prevent it like a person's behavior or tragedy or whatever. That's totally logical I'm I'm on board with that but if it's like what's the meaning of it? All I don't have that question. So when you're having a problem where you are relentlessly whoring out of of your emotions this, why why? Why and? I have. I. CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY? All that..

"Really it's not like oblivion. See I felt like it was very much kind of almost making fun of space cereal television shows. And the machine you know you're in this great big room and everyone's facing one direction with all these panels in front of them it almost looked like a skit you would make. So it looked a little bit cartoon to me I thought dot would you mean kind of like the Star Trek episode of Black Mirror? Yes and also the movie was called Quest Galaxy Galaxy Quest. You know where it just looks a little bit hyped up but it was nice looking and the special effects were good. There are some. Good. Yeah, that's not overstated. The I'm one was good I thought. Pretty head points in the wall thing was cool. Really bad don't kid. How. How is that supposed to look better than that? No. I'm. Magin someone's arm just gone through a panel that's actually going into another dimension not like someone had to shove their hand and big pillow the lady with all the wires the have gone through. Good. Yeah. See that was a cool thing about this. If we have not mentioned spoilers the maybe some spoilers coming up but. How this kind of operates as when they fire the thing and it goes wrong it this two different. Would you call it? Before. I already said No. Dimensions or reality mentions. The two parallel. The multi verses happening. So over here is this earth and everything that's happening and the version of me and a version of you in version of the planet and the Space Station and everything that's happening, and then all of a sudden. You something zaps and they criss cross. So the space station from one dimension crashes into the particles of the space station of the other one. So if she's walking down the Hallway In my hers and then they something crashes into each other. So I met quantum level and she's just a little bit too far to the right or to the left all the sudden. She now trapped with wires going through her she's in the while it's like I said, you transport somebody to the wrong destination and they're going to be half seeking out of Iraq. So I like the concept of two things. And they don't overuse it. They don't keep going for it like every. There's only a few instances of things that crossover each of the right. It's not like yeah, they don't. They could have gone crazy with it and there's all kinds of things happening every two seconds but they kind of narrow it down to a few different incidents all all of them are horrific looking so You know it does kind of make you wince a few times is definitely some gross stuff in that But. It's not like a horror movie as. Well then against possibly feel like alien while you're Claustrophobic, can you in the? You know the the lady in the Walter Chamber for instance in the. You know this is a big. You know they look open it's huge like it's cool. The the design of the space station. Oh Yeah. I think is really good and you know when you say that. I thought the really good on the space station when they show you an establishing shot of it from the outside. Yeah. I agree with the kind of spacey shots are good. Yeah. Well. We don't buy industry a magic they kinda know what they do in most. But I like the design of the space station. It's like these rotating. Thing, we've seen it before probably share. By the create nasty visual gravity by rotating. I. Don't know if that's how it works I don't know science really I mean Space Odyssey two, thousand one has those no one on. Artificial gravity go around. He's spin something around the outside centrifugal force, but she's an so they're doing that in this space station so they don't have to be weightless and shit. Nobody's weightless. How they any point I don't think just for that one split second when they go when the shit goes down to the to your. Is that yes. So It, it's not like super expensive like they've kind of corners to do all that stuff. But then when you watch in space thing. Kind of expect that. You know sometimes yeah and with Cloverfield World I'm on board with whatever they gotTA. Do? You know that has already was shaky Cam and the first one which we don't like I don't like you don't like so anything that's an improvement that. We should go back to the other. This is the third and the Cloverfield Ceres, and obviously that first movie we talked by between ourselves. It's a shaky movie. And it's really annoyingly shaky comets. The kind of shaky conway they will want him people at the time the you might get motion sickness from watching it in the cinemas and we went to see it in the cinema. And think you can handle it. I handle it just don't like it kind of look away to divert my eyes every once in a while just because if You know you're actually trying to tell me a story with motion pictures and when you can't tell me that story because the motion of your pictures is kind of semi Shitty, then you're failing on part of your promise so so The. The overall idea like I didn't like shaky come either but the overall idea of the film I really enjoyed it like it was a big thing. You know the of liberty guys had blown off and. It was monsters running around you know. The. Kind of rough and ready version of Godzilla. Details it's impressive. How do I can see those scenes in my head and I can see the scene on the coney island thing and the you know like you've usually forget within. That isn't true. I selectively remember true. But I we are watching the X. files at the moment and we. The the oldest one was. The first one was probably two months ago if that, right. Yeah and. I asked you about an episode that we watched. Let's say within three weeks of with guy who's not that memorable. So don't pretend like I. Remember. Some details, I think I mentioned earlier in this podcast I'm not super hard sell. I think I mentioned that maybe I said that in before they have to show discussion super nerd person I'm I'm don't memorize every. person in every story, every plot and every line of everything. So the original. Cloverfield we definitely, we've reviewed it back in the day, but we definitely liked it. But the kind of weird concept of not being able to see the fo I, always liked I think that's fascinating like run. Oh, some crazy shit's going down. You don't ever really see the thing or know what's going on. That's why one of my. Discuss it when I talk about my recommendations later, same kind of thing you you aren't hitting it head on like in Independence Day right where you're seeing all the action. You're right in the middle of it. You're just like the rest of the world would be watching it from a distance. So I like that the cloverfield concept of that, and then we moved onto ten cloverfield lane which I think is my that's my favorite of the cloverfield movies. I think it's really good because. It's like Again when you start watching Clovio Lane, you don't really know what? The deal is true aside from it's the word cloverfield in the title. So you've kind of idea but then as the movie plays out, you like is this really what is because? It's not right. It's not going in that direction I'm thinking at all like so. You know and it's this self contained like this one is really I mean this one's on a spaceship that one's in a bunker. But I just like the performance of John. Goodman and I really like Mary Elizabeth winstead she's really just like that whole. and. The last fifty minutes of it. Really really. Really good. It's very, let's say Very Spielberg and. So I thought that woman's superb like, I. Would I think give it like highest rate in the past I think you like to maybe not as much as me I don't know. But by John Goodman fans I, think I liked him in that. Yeah. Well, that's my favorite one to watching this one. I. Think that one was well executed. There's also directed by Dan Trachtenberg who was the totally Rad show guy. Number. The totally Rad show. Yeah. Yeah. Well, he went on to be director and that was the film he directed..

"If he'd gone you'd be dead by now says Michelle Wright and Eh considers himself lucky. Now do you ever watch the everything wrong with with channel on YouTube. The Guy was like everything wrong with this movie. Everything and it's really right. Yeah Okay Yeah Okay I remember the actual name of the Youtube now. He does this movie. And just for Shen Gigs. I watch just for shingles decided to watch it. and He. This part is so fucking funny. Because he's like Oh they have a conversation that totally didn't he didn't need to happen. On opposite sides of a concrete angry wall and everyone can hear each other just fine and I fucking laugh my ass off so hard but I do i. I love the contrast of you know. Obviously he's facing one way she's facing the the blue and the darkness surrounding him and in the pink and the light kind of surrounding her. It's a it's a good bit of It's a good bit of imagery you know but it's it's almost got this kind of almost like imagery foreshadowing in a way that like things are not gonNA wind up well for Emmett but for her. You know it's it's the grass is greener like it's brighter literally on the other side. There's like there's something about that that I that I really like and really dig. No it's absolutely corrected like I mean whenever Because I'm not Shamlan. Does a lot of this like he always works with colors like he nine specifically clothing and this this feels ominous like in terms of Emmett Riley economy. Like the sense that something's something's going to happen. And whenever you know whenever characters go into like long sort of like Maan luggy silica as like this. Then that's not really a good sign as a I'm GonNa say something to her. I love that. There's no romantic bowl. NCAA love that and and I'm not GONNA lie. They're both two very pretty people. WII EMMETT's intimate Emmett to handsome man. Mary Elizabeth winstead is fucking gorgeous. You could actually see it happening and I think this scene if if it goes any further you know if this if if they were to stay down there for like years and also stuff i. I think that it's logical to see the two of them like hey you know. We're roughly the same age. He's not fifty five years old. Four hundred pounds overweight. Like you know this kind of work. But I I like the fact that that's-that's never even an option on the table. It's it's almost kind of like I don't know it's it's it becomes more rethink of like siblings versus the father in a weird way like it. has this very kind of you know kind of turning on the family like kind the thing and I say that only in terms of like Were Howard is like you know. We're a family. This is going to be our family but they just kind of rebuke. That and and I liked that a lot of acting hang out because I I mean when you look at the cameras who boy girl Blue Pink. It's kind of like there's something about that to me. That just screams like a sibling. s kind of relationship. Now now love canal you're on tonight'd you should shit water often out. Yeah I know right we gotta take a break here in America I gotta go shit somewhat now just getting. I'm feeling a lot then. We actually ought to be very very serious just just just before we do. The I'd I wanted. I don't want to pasta this one last moment here in this conversation and Michelle talks about this little go with her dad right and like kind of like. This is the kind of giving us a reason as to how Michelle came to be the way that she is. She's a very proactive. Very resourceful young woman She tells the story about this girl. She saw Basically the dad it kept yanking on her own very roughly. She says she knows that feeling. Her Dad was physical and she relied on her brother Colon. She thought she could do. Oh Yeah Bay the Colin for the little girl but she just kept watching. It didn't take action. The girl's father ends up hitting her. Michelle did what she always does when things get hot and she panicked and ran right. I mean that that kind of like says. Hey you've changed right like well you have to. You have to change in order to survive this. So yeah I I think that's I like that scene but at the same time makes me laugh of Emmett's like really that's one of the biggest mistakes in my life and I tell you got for me. Some kid in the store like K.. Academy kind of made me laugh like I get it. It's still a good setup for her character and it and she does talk about her family like in that way so we kinda get a foot in both worlds but it did crack me up. 'EM It's like. Oh well fuck me I guess Jesus John Gallagher Genius just fucking vendetta and And by that act is a fucking on fire man. This might be one of my favorite sayings of the movie actually You know this. This is maybe that's full of tension full of like technically crazy action sequences but not really action Shen but in terms of acting. This is my standout saying This is about halfway. What do you reckon about taking a break right? He does good buddy awesome. You guys. Don't go anywhere we'll be right back with all ten clubs. He'll just good morning afternoon and evening. Wherever the Hell Eua? Thanks so much for listening to this episode guys just while we take a a quick break here I am going to plug some shit. No it's not advertising. It's nothing paid. "Abrams had produced the the the first film that was directed by Matt Raves. His now we're doing the Batman he did the last two point of the films he did. Let me in He's a fantastic. DIRECTA drudge. Abrams is known for his really out. There kind of marketing campaigns And the first time I've ever seen like something like that was WAS CLO- field. I just remember like little little viral darrelle images and those viral videos going online about cloverfield and I was like what is this movie about. what is it about because those are much like some Out there that was indirectly connected to the movie. And you know he's he's like kind of like explaining the lore of this monster like you know I remember. I remember berating this article online. And you know if you watched cloverfield like right at the end of the movie. It's like the final shot of the film. United it's a main couple you know they're out on this holiday and if you look on the top hand corner. UCS SPLASH. And you're just say. The sat like a satellite or some kind of alien cross falling into the ocean. And it's just like it's things things like that that's kind of like throwing into you know what I mean. I really really adored and that came out through the marketing of it off the film Chuck full of like little little tidbits like that. I remember definitely on a presenting pulled into that And then ten Cloverfield Lane came out so ten club feel lane still working at hordes. But I was working being kind of in like the main sort of head office thing and then what happened was I had never heard of this movie before. Like like Eddie. The timing of this movie was like it was it was scheduled to release in much and then the first trailer came out in February. So it's it's so it's so weird like the. The announcement of the film was followed by the sorry the trial of the followed by the announcement. The film pretty much immediately. I'd never seen a movie that kind of like a movie star John Goodman and And fucking Mary Elizabeth winstead. Who who I both know? And maybe that's it's kind of connected to the cloverfield franchise. I would've thought that this would have a lot more of a marketing push. All I would've heard of it. I've never heard that before like a month or four lace and paradox paradox is even even worse paradox I remember last year in Twenty eighteen. I was flying back from Boston and I was flying home and I stopped over in Dallas Airport and this is the day of the Super Bowl and I remember waiting around flat flat and I was watching the Super Bowl on TV. And there's an ad that came on and it was Clo- filled paradox and it was like streaming Netflix off to the Super Bowl. Like that's it. That's literally what the trial is said. It's like streaming today off the and that's when it was announced because that movie was in production as God particle was the the name of the Some of the production. But Yeah I definitely remember following that movie pretty pretty hard and then like you know eventually got dropped on. It looks like it was like man he guys go not that a big of a deal. So yeah this is. This is a weird franchise Specifically chose this close. He'll lane over cloverfield and cloverfield. I feel paradox because I one hundred percent think that this is the best of the three. This is a fantastic film This is an act as movie. This is This is a movie. That's kind of like if these three of homes has done work. This movie doesn't work And this is a weird movie in the sense that it relies on your of not have seen the first chlorophyll movie but the first cloverfield baby or what. It's about because that I love field movie. It's about an alien or some kind of like did an extra terrestrial entity kind of attacking a city right. This movie relies on your kind of that information and if you do now it then great and that means that Howard the information that how it is fading year via via Mary Elizabeth went says character that might lend to some credibility because the entire like name of this game is Is How it right like you know what I mean is is he. Is he correct rights. Trust right it's all about trust like do we always supposed to trust him. But then like we'd like little clues breadcrumbs of lackner this This is a bad guy. This is a bad person. He's not he's not trustworthy And then we given evidence on the contrary so brad this mini. Did you kind of like turn this way. And that way and you're just like what the fuck is this outcome And Yeah one hundred percent agree with you. The the the alien this movie is pretty is wakened by the alien stuff. It's Wakened by the club feel connection ultimately because every time. I do watch movie a bit like a knife. I needed this. I don't know if if I need this. This demo dog chase at the end you think right. Yeah and I think that It I would have. I would have much rather lucky said a chemical contamination. Something like something something a little more credible But of not going to fully deduct points from that because the previous hour and a half of what we just saw. This film is absolutely incredible This is a fucking fucking tense movie. I love movies full of tension and this is just way up that it But yeah I'm really can't cover this movie Thank you God's Saimaa shooting into this episode of the Podcast Cohen. Thank you for watching this for the first time. Yeah I enjoyed it. Okay what do you say we get right into this rich. Let's do this shit man. Let's do this shit so we kick off. We have been on Mary. Elizabeth winstead character Michelle. She's asleep packing. There's an earthquake as we say. The apartment shuttering ring. She's obviously upset. She talks on the phone and grabs a bottle of whiskey on a way out leaving the case behind and wedding room behind under this is like three he minutes and we've already found out so much nation like it's kind of like a a Mazda clause in terms of storytelling. Like it's it's wasting our time right right. Well it's definitely like a master class in show and don't tell with the fact that I mean it's inaudible dialogue because it doesn't matter like the the look on her face the distress like packing. Because I you're kinda split you're like okay. So is it happening now. Like is this alien shit or is this something else and then the scene kind of goes on and you see repacking stuff you see your grab the bottle you see the rings either keys okay. This is not alien shit like she would be freaking out a lot more but at first did I think because it's got that cloverfield title in there you see her packing out the bag you see the earthquake at you like all right. It's happening and you're like oh wait no it kind of pulls a little bit of a Switcheroo on you right exactly now. It absolutely does. And just I did go poss- just quickly The Posta for this one of the best post poses of seen in a very long. Tom Actually earned this pasta. It's just a super wide shot right like the top. Like the of the of the pastor is above ground and you just say the sky unlike the house and then you see the rest of it is just the ground and then it's like this kind of like tunnel and like it's l like it connects to the l like the L. connects to the surface of the L. One lane and she's like ten. Close your line. And I love the the The tagline it's monsters come in many forms like obviously referring right to how it and it's just it's just a good you know a damn good as opposed. I love it. I love the music in this. This this movie like the the strings violins. It's it's great. We get these headshots with her driving. Along in tears she stops at the gas station and Did you dino about slasher. Yeah I did a little bit. Like reading and Youtube watched the movie and it kind of up on You know that it that it POPs up in a pretty much all all of Abram stuff. It's it's almost like the Quentin Tarantino Red Apple Cigarette thing pops up everywhere but I also noticed this this gas station. She stopped at his. This is the Kelvin gas station. This is the one that gets destroyed in to Berate Kelvin gas station and Emmy when if you look at Abram stuff Kelvin is I mean the Kelvin timeline is like it's over for everything there's always something Kelvin or slow show in like all of his movies which I think is interesting you know. I think it's funny because I sometimes I think people people take that stuff and they run to the hills with it like. Oh it's it's all connected and I solved peop- people saying that you know that the slosh Oh drink is is what causes people to turn it a cloverfield monsters ditch. Just it's just a funny Easter egg man like don't like you're taking that shit running it into the ground running too far are with it but no I I like those. It's just it's not A it's not A. It's not a vein that connects them. They're just tiny little nerves threads you know. This is just a fun little lamade like yeah I I I. Didn't I one hundred percent in run with that. Like is like is like slush is up in star trek like it's literally in the dialogue slush. Thank you I don't think slush is in Star Wars. I highly doubt it is if it is then it must be really really fucking small Kelvin didn't pick up Kelvin. By the way that was good fucking connection Now that I think about it the Kelvin the US has Kelvin. Is the the ship inside. Track that Yeah Christine's father does. It's it's it's it's literally literally on everything like when I started watching Holy Shit. It's it's on. It's on so much fucking stuff. She drives off. We went when she receives a call from Ben Third. The United Voice of Ben is a fucking Bradley Cooper Bradley fucking Kupa Rucker record himself to serve random I got are now. How alive at random? Yeah and it and it sounds nothing like him. You know. That's even as I. It still takes me a while to get over the fact that you know when when I think M. C. U.. I never think Bradley Cooper even though rocket raccoon is you know a fan favourite of a lot of people. I still don't ever associate him with like like rocket raccoon. You know American sniper just because like. We're hearing his voice. Hey that's all I was like. Oh look again i. I don't know I think that comes to mind is America's Arkansas may see. My mom was always hangover. Because I think that's the one here that just blew him. Yeah I mean it just. It just blew him the fuck up But yeah there is something nothing really odd about like you know He. You would expect someone who's like typical in Abrahams movies to pop up somebody who you know like If this were a Tehran Tina movie it Or if this were Tarantino movie it would be like Samuel Jackson. Or if this were a scorsese movie this would be Deniro. You know like the people you insist were burden it would be DEP. But it's just weird because I'm like I don't know of Bradley Cooper doing a Lotta Shit with j.j Abrams or a Trachtenberg what Trachtenberg Dan Trachtenberg which by the way he is not done a whole lot of other stuff besides his. He directed like the first episode of the boys. Which I thought was pretty fucking cool short film? Yeah and he's doing a show he's done a short film and he's doing a Harry. Houdini bio PIC pick from what I've heard. Now I mean that's to be announced him who knows I could fuck involve straight through but And it will also don't go by the the the names of the people who wrote this. Yes I mean. There's one catch it at all. Yes damages elder D- fucking rotter and whiplash and lowland. Holy Shit. Ed I think didn't he direct trek I man as well. Yes yes. Sorry I always forget about says man because then then the that's the that's the one alley from those other two that he's done but yeah I mean the show. He's a fantastic director In his name when he popped up I was like. Oh what the fuck right yeah. That's the one that threw me off a little bit. When I saw Damon Damian Chazelle I know no that name and I honestly I haven't seen first Orlando the only thing.

"And. And it's ram. And so here's what they did. Those more humanized Godzilla, again, go back to war for the planet aids. You know, you really have this humanized, you know, basically, you know, go back to like, Frankenstein, humanized monster is that he wrote, which is generally, how King Kong is but godzillas never been, you know, really humanized at all. And I think that they could did a whole peach dragon thing and totally, you know, humanized Godzilla more, but I don't know. I I'm all for a hero, but yet, no, not, not, not the rock, anybody. But run and not and not cannery. Canneries is having a good year man. He should've been in actually I guess I'm glad he's not in. So Ryan you, you like this movie, the most of the three of us. So final thoughts. You got. I. It delivered. What I wanted to see which was the monsters fighting. And the thing is, I think a lot of the. I'm not a big fan of the cutting every twenty five seconds during a fight scene sort of style of editing. But I was very acutely aware of the fact that. This was a movie where long takes during fights. We're gonna look very good. I think a lot of the jumpiness the shakiness, and the like the monsters fighting the background was probably a good call. Because otherwise the certain point it does genuinely still just kinda look like to do in costumes wrestling each other, and looking pretty stupid like that one shot that they always showed in the commercials of like Godzilla running at Giedroyc, like plying his head around. It was like right on the border between super cool and incredibly goofy. So I'm almost k with not being able to give the best clarity on the fighting, I would prefer that leaving my mind to fill in some of the gaps imagination than to just see how awful, it would actually look if they had to act, it all out. And I think that's why I like this movie so much, because my brain is just filling in the gaps of. Yeah. Big monsters beating each other up, so I'm happy to admit I'm. Like being diluted by this film. Well, I I would as much as I didn't love it. I would say that, you know, it's probably my favorite, you know, recent movie with Godzilla in the name, you know, of course, I haven't seen any of the recent foreign ones, but as far as Americans are concerned, it's definitely the best one, I think. I, I have to go with the ninety eight one. Because I really liked the soundtrack of that movie, you know, back in the late nineties, they had great soundtracks for movies. They really. Yeah. Exactly. Yes. It's weird. This cut Zillow felt like an independence day. But the Roland Emmerick fats didn't feel like an independent status where that is very weird. Well, I think we we've wrapped this thing up. You know, we'll skip our usual movie recommendations for this week, but I do want to give you a chance to plug anything you wanna plug real quick. And then I have one last question for you after we do. Yeah. I do think if you can look up and support Kagyu big Patel. They are actually a great organization. It's a great gimmick. A fun kind of entertaining thing. You see some creative. Costumes out there and honestly, it just makes me jealous and kinda wanna make a monster costume out smashing around and just call it you know, exercise. Nice is the best kind of exercise. Chatty anything you want to know? I don't we, you know, I think we briefly mentioned, you know, Millie Bobby Brown. I think she's great. And I was I was this appointed, she didn't have more to do in this, when I know she is going to be in the next film. So play the ever more to do maker more. Interesting more likable, you know, make her that he wrote even a no Ryan doesn't want that. But I'm all for that right on well that leaves us with one final question before we wrap this episode up guys was this Cloverfield. Ooh, I don't know. It is tricky because, you know it is as nonsensical. Cloverfield one. Yes, is the camera footage as messy and are the monsters, as inconsistent has Cloverfield one. Yes. Is was this directed by an indie director who kinda took a swerve and a big budget film? Yes. I think I think my gut instinct, whoever's been saying, no, this is not a cover field. But every bad thing about this movie makes it a Cloverfield. Is very much. I'll Cloverfield one not attend Cloverfield lane is my official. Okay. Interesting. Interesting curveball there. Yeah. You know, and there was actually one point when they were showing all the monsters, I got really giddy because I thought I saw clover. Looks it looks like the mood owes from Godzilla one kind of look like clover too. Yeah. And I only saw him for like, maybe a minute in God's into which was obviously, there's no months about the plan. Yeah, I don't know. I, I would like to call this, a Cloverfield I would like to because obviously, this movie is not doing that. Well, however, Godzilla Kong is going to happen. So there is a chance at the monster verse can continue. And I would like to see, you know, clover become a part of this whole world. Dave, if you got to choose between a. Cloverfield vs Godzilla or a Pacific rim vs. Godzilla. Well, I would choose for the Cloverfield paradox to have never had. I think some things are so great that nothing could ever accomplish them. Real quick. Chad, what's your, what's your verdict? Is it definitely is. I remember it seemed like y'all said that glass was definitely Cloverfield, if it is, is, there's a lot of similarities with a secret society. You know. Think about that. The, you know, I was talking about Bambi lake thing about Bambi as being a Godzilla. What if the glass movie was Godzilla in the monsters? And you put three the monsters in like this nut house anyway, so, yeah, I mean only Noli Cloverfield it has to. Well that that's a great great answer. Everybody. Catch us next time on everything's Cloverfield. Yes. Lou he agreed with me. I'm stopping it. Hey, I'm Josh bell. I'm Jason Harris. Hey, Josh, we're friends in real life. But.

"Let's get out of here. We're not right. Are we the list gamble? I will say that they be one movie that was mentioned multiple times with all. This was Cloverfield. I would say that's the number one. "It's it's in that vein of I'm sure what a quiet, I didn't watch a quiet place. But in that sort of suspenseful thriller kind of, you know, not quite horror. It's not as good as like a get out because it's lacking the next level commentary that get out brought to the to the table. But it's good. What is important to me about this? If you watched bright if you watched that Will Smith one, which is kinda disappointing David Eire's if you watch that rom com with Lucy, Liu and what's his face? Stay day was Netflix originals. Yeah. These are all never watching about if you're watching the Cloverfield paradox. I mean, these are all not great great. This is the first one that I've watched that is a Netflix produced movie that has been good that like is like a theatrical type movie is I would say ballot of Basra Scruggs. I didn't watch that. What the hell is that the Coen brothers movie? Oh was about a golfer sounds like legend west Vance. It's it's a western that to me was the tipping point for Netflix. But the point is regardless of what your flavor when you're tasting movies are like Netflix is now not just buying films self producing films that I would pay I would have paid good money to watch the theory. I would've left the house to go see. A lot. Now. I think you're kind of looking back hindsight. Twenty twenty hindsight, right? It's not fair on the other end. Also, I think creative people on some level. They just want their stuff scene. It's not about the money for everybody. Like, obviously, it's important and for everybody it is important and on some level for above the above the line producers or whatever they care about success. And then maybe they more awards at some exactly. And after you have a success like this. You have a lot more power going into your next project. Right. Right. But here I think the power really is on Netflix side. It's on Netflix and showing how they can release something and get way more people in their seats to watch this thing, and this Delury other producers other actors to their platform, Sandra. Bullock was really good in this, by the way. And so I think that's the other advantage here is that if they're still skeptical actors actresses, I think that starts to break all that down that center. With the. That's one of the kids. Jon fitch. He's in the film too. He is he is on the phone. Oh, well, it's a blockbuster film. Speaking blockbusters, I did leave the house once this holiday break to watch a movie, and it was unfortunately, wasn't to watch in spite of arse again, which I kind of wish I did as well. Peter my son wants to but I saw aquaman. Oh, man. All right. Did you see it? Nope. So I can't talk about it. No spoilers say Verghese. That deserves to be seen on the big screen. If you're gonna watch it once it really it makes the most out of the the large format screen. Don't see in three D hated it in thirty. Just like sharks, Wales swimming, and also like the three D I saw an I max head some pros -ation problems where there's a lot of red punchy read from the hair of Mira to Mantas I watching with Anna glasses. No, I'm ex polarized glasses. Okay. But one of the lenses muted the reds and other popped out the reds and combine made the red color, look, really shimmery. And I and I didn't like that at all. But James wan who directed. I believe seven direct this one, and he knows how to direct action movie, and they throw it all on the screen, if they not they basically put all their ideas for documen movie on table. And then did it all and spent the money and blew it out in. It was kind of worth it..
