He lives alone and sometimes we can be in our apartment. We can hear him and then he does a little giggle afterwards. I am I am dead set serious. My daughter and I have taken to calling him mister gassy. I don't know if he knows we know, but when we see him in the street or in the common area, he's very sheepish. He knows. He must know. It is the loudest, I hate the F word, so I won't use that, but he is the loudest person passing with I don't know what his diet contains. It must be. He can't be good, can it? "The Christian O'Connell show podcast. Jack's moved into a new neighborhood and he's found a new local character, a kind of nosy noisy neighbor. Not kind of noisy neighbor. The noises of the night. We have a bagpiper who practices outdoors. Wow, are we the least he's taking it outdoors? No, no, to keep it indoors, keep it contained. But surely, if it's indoors, it's even Lowry's thinking of his neighbors. So where does he go to an oval? It sounds so loud that at first Bianca thought he was next door. I said, no, the pipes. The pipes are so annoying they travel. They travel really far. I think we think he's in the park, but we've never seen him, we are. You need to follow the sounds like the pied piper. Where he is. We tried. Bianca suggested that he might be in a tree because we saw the tree. But we know the sound is coming from the park. It's not a beautiful thing. No, if you've got a light, your baby's trying to sleep during the day. It's not like is it a very unique taste of a sound? Yeah. I think you really are putting your foot down in the suburb and saying like the noise of the suburbs. You're quite right. Practicing bad. There's no getting away from it. Like, I guess if you're practicing your drums or something, it's a couple of houses you can hear that. The bagpipes is everywhere. Well, you've just reminded me, I came from a left coburg where I had that drumming teenager. He would wait until after 8 o'clock. I got away from him and now sitting with the back. So what time of the day is he cranking it up? Yesterday was midday. You're back in the heat there with that big old Lee's box. Especially because it takes a while to sort of get any kind of off duty to tune out of it. With bagpipes, can you not practice at half volume or lesser volume? You have to go to volume switch on a check. No, you're right. You can just do the chanter, which is like the record a bit of it and take the bag off. Oh, forgot we've got a highland expert on the show. Of course. I did learn the bagpipes. It looks very hard to learn. Absolutely impossible instrument to try faster. No, I didn't get very far. I did two lessons and quit. So how many times a week is he cranking up the old bag? I've heard him three times in the last two weeks. Oh my God. He loves the weekends. Come the weekend. Come on the pipes. And how long is he out there practicing? Saturday, four hours? No way. It is constant. I thought it might be a CD. Four hours. Springsteen and the E street band, who requires four hours of bagpipes. He's on his own. Yesterday was an hour for lunch, but on the weekends, he just goes where do we think you could go and practice that where no one could hear you? I do aquarium underwater. Rio, who have you got then? Um most importantly, I have a young, a young one who's in first grade at the Sentinel, a school district in Clifton Park, New York. They are not allowed to talk. While they are eating lunch. They are not allowed to think my child has been reprimanded for picking up pencils to be helpful to classmates. And what's even more disturbing. Sean is that my son has severe allergies. He's developed anxiety because of all of this, and I recently got a note from his pediatrician and sent it over to the school. And they're telling me that it doesn't matter. I have pleaded with them explaining that okay, going just stop you for once. Why won't they let kids talk? When they're eating lunch. That's a good question. That is a very good question. Why won't they let them sing Happy birthday when they're already seeing six ft apart and can yell out an answer? That's what I'd like to know. I don't even know I don't even know where to be. And so, your son. You have a doctors note that that the doctor says that your son has trouble wearing the mask of my understanding that part, right? Yeah. Okay. All right, and probably obvious reasons, and then They won't accept the note. So what is your alternative? My alternative is to continue to fight. I guess I reached out to the Department of Health. They contacted the school and told them that I note was required, and I provided it. Yes. Little nurse had the audacity to then we call my pediatrician to try to coerce him into changing the wording of their narrative, which I am appalled that You know, I don't know what else to do. You know, there's other kids in other districts that have this going on and you know, I don't like you. I don't know what else to do. You know, I've reached out to Senator Daphne Jordan, and she has been doing an amazing job. I reached out to the media. I'm calling you. You know the newspaper, you know, and people don't want to talk about any of this and you know May have actually mental Health awareness month. And, you know, I want to be my husband who's a vet. I know you just talking to Dan and thank you to him in his service. And he's an adolescent nurse. And he sees firsthand the rise of depression. The rise of suicides, the rise of suicide side attempt and nobody wants to talk about it. You know the school They're just I'm so upset. You know, the schools are inflicting unnecessary mental trauma on these kids. And you know, this is the silent pandemic that's going on. You know, I don't know They're being wrong. You know, I rarely. I can't even think of a time in my career where I'm stumped. I don't I don't. I don't even know what to tell you. Except maybe hire a lawyer or get the hell out of New York, which, by the way, I don't know if you have the financial means of picking up moving, what your husband. Your career might be and how you provide for your Children. I mean, it's just one of a million reasons to just get the hell out of here, You know, were hoping in six years, you know to get out of here. But, you know, I have a friend that's in another school district and her 11 year old was in fifth grade has allergies as well. And he was kicked out of school for not wearing a mask. So he's been doing a sit out outside of his school at Berlin Elementary. You've been outside before date. Nobody wants to listen. And you know, I don't know what it's going to take. You know, I emailed comb. Oh, you know, we I've joined media groups. You know we're doing what we can, but you know, And that's the thing is, the rates have gone down. These kids are not getting sick. They're not spreading it. But there's been no adjustment to guidelines like I don't understand. I don't understand it. I don't know. You know, And it's just funny How certain district that have teachers unions are more ridiculous. I have two older Children who are in a union free school district. They can do all of that. They can talk at lunch. They can sing. They get gym class. They have art. They have music. They even get mask breaks. I don't know if that's some kind of a coincidence there that you know the teachers union. I don't know. You know, I don't know. I just It's heartbreaking. You know, I actually my oldest is in eighth grade, and she made the varsity volleyball team. That's a big deal. That is a huge deal. I'm praying for you and your family. I don't know short of hiring an attorney. What other remedy you may have, and you know, home schooling. I guess I don't even know that may not even be a nop shin available to you, or we're getting out of New York. I mean, those are the three things that I can think of. I mean, it sounds like they've made up their mind that they're they're gonna go with not going to follow the science. They're gonna be rigid. I mean, think about this. New York is just let the kids back in school. Meanwhile, Florida has had their kids in school since August, and that's why we're gonna do the show tonight. But You're in our thoughts and prayers. I'm super excited in life. In general right now i hope you guys by the way are all having a wonderful week that you've worked hard. They've been healthy. That you've done things that you love that you spend time with loved ones not with their screens. That you've maybe sense you heard last. Monday's episode tried to find some ways to get away. I heard from some of you on instagram. I put out a question. How do you unplug. I got responses from michaela. Michaela said that by working out loved to hear that. Allie friend of the podcast said that she liked to unplug when she went on vacations. That didn't have any cell service. Yes that is a personal favorite of mine. So i hope all of you have found ways to unplug to get away to focus on you and in self care that all that stuff is so important and taking that time away from your screens. That designated time that intentional time is so important and i would stress all of you to do it as often as you can. Today's episode like. I said i'm super excited. Because we're gonna be joined by alexis porter. Many of you know alexis porter if you know if you went to schenn if you grew up where i'm from you know about alexis porter. Great girl always has had my deepest respect and admiration. I have had many classes with her over the years back in the old high school days always admired from afar mark. She was how she was. She is not something that i would ever consider to have been in my inner circle. She's not anyone that would ever consider a best friend. I think for maybe a year or two in high school we were. We were good friends. We had a lot of the same really good friends. She played basketball. I play basketball so we knew each other from that there was always a great mutual respect for another. We had some classes together. I remember spanish class. She is always someone that. I have really really respected really admired from afar. And so i'm really excited to talk to her today. Because i actually got together with her and christina. Shutout see a couple of weeks ago. When i was in boston at cafe. Toria this little q. Italian copy shop in the north end of boston and i came away from that conversation. Really really impressed by. I mean by see of course sees amazing whatever Everyone knows that. And ashley was also super impressed with to. Maybe i just didn't know her as well as maybe. I should have i africa conversations from boston in now coming up today. I'm super impressed by her. And how much. She has grown and how far along. She has come in her life. And i'm so freaking proud of her and proud to know her and i'm now somewhat regretting the fact that i was not ever closer with her at one point but i think this can teach us the lesson that it's never too late to really cultivate friendships or to develop friendships or to reach out to people or to see how people are doing and maybe there is something there. I think there's friendships or relationships that we all have. That could be better. That needs some work. That maybe need some repairing or just need to be resurfaced. Can because you never know people change right. People get better people become better they learn as we grow up. I mean we are still rapidly growing. Even though the pandemic has stopped the growth of so many of us in our twenties. This is the time where we grow the most as we are realizing who we are and what we want and where we wanna be who. We want to be who we want us ran ourselves with. Those are exactly the type of things that i love talking about on. This podcast is self growth. Self-development getting better. What are you doing to live the best. And i think ashley is someone who is really doing that so. I'm super excited to talk to her. Today that's coming up in a moment but first one day. What was it like growing up in the household happy. They need so much we'll be out to. It's definitely been last i Love the the middle child girl You know growing up sixteen months apart from my older brother was super fun like sports wise. We had a lot of mutual friends because of like i played with some of his school friends Who were in his grade and the unpile seven years younger. it's so funny knocks. He's a senior seeing people in our grade who had younger siblings of his grade. Just like all grown up because all of them to me are always going to be like seven. You're like actually through purity like with deep voices out like oh. My gosh is so weird. I'm so old and out of high school. And and so yeah. It's just a blast on what the age of resisted the fed auto playing sports growing up with all. I never really heard someone say that. They enjoyed being middle child. So you're the first statement now. I know that this is not you but your brother corey. I just have to say more love for the acar family. So i played basketball with them for a couple years. We on the same teams. And so i was a forward so i guarded a lot of bigger is but i could push a lot of them around easily. Corey actor is the toughest kid i've ever played against. We would battle around imposing. He was a little tiny guard but likes. You could move that kid. He's arguably the best competitor that i have ever played with or against so. Did you guys have legendary one on one games in the driveway or something super competitive pressure. We always get in arguments. Their backyard play basketball three of us all so competitive. Always been each other each other around so definitely made me tougher on the court and that's funny about outside for because that was his main sport so i never had just such an amazing athlete. He was able to fake yeah. He's rack of muscle all the time. But yeah our competition the backyard. Get down dirty for sure of because i i've eaten dated. Stop from pushing me around. I pushed back in. Hey here we are. What was what was your. I mean you played so many different sports. You played basketball. You were playing volleyball. Bear a little bit you. You were doing so much. What was your favorite sport play. Honestly this is the toughest That he will ask you. Because i tried so many different sports i was just talking about this assigned. Mom actually tried so many sports. The only two sports like one of my mind that. I don't think i tried was field hockey. A regular hockey The i played lacrosse little a volleyball. I really liked that. My kind of wish. I stuck with volleyball a little bit more. But paul i kinda was getting more competitive bin laden had to drop some other sports I really. I don't know that's so tough. 'cause they all have their own different aspects slim. I really liked about the one thing about lacrosse. That i feel like i didn't.
