"There were quoted as people from cleveland or very big about watching out for one another having a name like this kind of shows were all looking out for each other. Another one said it's a name of strength it's a projection of strengthened power. A guardian is somebody that watches over and make sure that no harm befalls. You think they're important symbol said another. I think there's a deep connection to the city. it's a name that means a lot to clevelanders. And then finally. I feel like they're kind of representation of our industrial past. So you do have some pros. When it comes to the guardian some locals are very happy with the decision to become the guardians. But ultimately i'm looking at this from an outsider's perspective saying hey the team said how can we do this easy as possible. How can we change as little as possible. We're not gonna upset the richmond spiders. Nobody else's the guardians. It wasn't xfl team for one year after they folded due to the pandemic so they don't have to deal with any conversations around those particular styles of agreements. I don't know we'll see how it goes. But again the guardians. All right cool. Whatever not great. Not terrible maybe. You have a different opinion. If you're listening from the city of cleveland if you let me know hit me up in the comments it is up on twitter. Interact with us to let us know what you guys think about the guardians nickname but ultimately i was just like man they sure took the easy way out on that one but revenues the tail end the segment number one here. I did want to talk to you guys about a few no hitters. That were flirted with over the weekend on saturday. Both the astros in the angels became or were very close to become the record breaking eighth no hitter on the twenty twenty one season for the astros astros starter fromberg vow dez when six hitless innings before ultimately being removed from the game due to his pitch count being over a hundred they then went to the bullpen looking for a combined. No hitter they got through the seventh inning. Before isaiah kinara philippa lead off the eighth with a bloop single offer ryan stanek so they got through seven innings until the rangers again have been no hit already this year. Where in trouble of having an app and additional time but single in the eighth inning ultimately they settled for two hits as they gave up a home run in the ninth inning ryan presley gave up his first run in his seventeenth appearance he had gone. Sixteen straight scoreless appearances. He gave up a solo home. Run so the astros ultimately getting the victory but they flirted with the no hitter after having a seven no hit innings in the leadoff single to start the eighth there were a few other no hitters than we're even closer. Let's see patrick sandoval for the l. a. Angels went eight and third against the minnesota twins without allowing a hit. You went into the ninth inning. Struck out the leadoff guy. Before giving off a double to brent rooker was inside outswing down the right field line. It was a fair. hit one of those again. He didn't exactly crush the ball. But a fair hits and then sandoval was removed. After eight and two thirds sin closer rask gracia's then gave up. An rbi doubled josh donaldson before striking out. Miguel said no to preserve a two to one victory. So patrick sandoval..

"But apparently it means a lot to clevelanders so the logos kind of tacky ethic but the the nickname seems to be one that fits the city. And that's To the best you can ask for. These days are chet. Here's the thing like when we get a little closer to college. Football definitely want to bring you back on because i'm fascinated by how much the espn's and the foxes and the cbs's or whatever are gonna talk about Name and likeness and money coming into the sport. Because it's going to be. It's just bad first of all that you wanna talk about sort of overdo the nc double as a cartel. So finally they had it handed to him which is great but but i am fascinated by that like how much because you know money has always been sort of baden right when it comes to student athletes. You don't talk about on the game broadcast. But how are you going to be able to avoid if like the starting quarterback of alabama is like making close to a million dollars in some kind of deal. So i'm told you gotta come back when it gets a little closer to to college because i am fascinated by all the networks are gonna handle that miami who bridges that. They list what they have. I also like on a chiron underneath there naming statistics. You can see what they're endorsing. Maybe maybe maybe they will acknowledge some sort of way. But probably by the way all those broadcasters should have been sort of waving the flag on this. I mean do you. Have you ever met a high profile broadcast chad. Who hasn't tried to endorse something. Free of these network dick vital. I mean if i if i invited that guy over. He would endorse my lamp. Here if i if i paid him enough money all of those. Yeah i know because he's already got some because all of those people should have been for. I like vitality like i. I like sort of sparring with them. and i appreciate what he's certainly done for cancer but it can. It will never not be funny to me when vital talks about. Oh my god if you know with all these transfers like college basketball is in chaos. It's ruining the whole system. That players are allowed to move on their own. It's so great. It's so institutionalized. And i love seeing like all this stuff blow up. It's fantastic. fifteen gyco outs. Then the next commercial break like oh my god transfer system. I mean we'll college chat. Will college basketball exists with the transport system. Now i mean. Do you think we'll have the sport this year. I mean is it possible barely exists now or anything else you wanna add. Get where you're going to cover that brady bucks game. Try to we will. Yeah we're hearing on that one week. Four up here with the bart brady coming back. So that's all sports. Radio is up. There's this is one year. There's gonna be a big political fight to renew this. So that's why. I called it an experiment you know. You're it's an experiment policy. One thing that i find really striking here is someone who came of age in the in the most intense moment of what we call welfare politics. You know bill clinton ending welfare as we know it and all this sort of demonizing the dole and the social safety net would become a hammock. And all these things. As far as i could tell. There's like no concerted rightwing backlash to this in fact you've got members of the republican party who have somewhat similar ideas. I mean they're not exactly the same but it is striking to me that we're about to run this experiment for ninety two percent of households families republican democrat black white latino indigenous asian american. "Be also climate change action. Yeah yeah now. There's one more thing on this equitable climate action to do list. Emily okay. It involves trees see trees help keep city neighborhoods cooler and that's going to be even more important as we get more extreme heat waves. People die every year from heat related illness but cleveland's been losing its trees and again. There's an equity angle in cuyahoga county. Which includes cleveland in a lot of cities. Actually trees are less common in low income neighborhoods and places where mostly people of color live. That's why it's part of the climate equity plan. They want to plant more trees and maintain them better especially in neighborhoods. That need them most. So we've got better housing better public transit more trees and better tree care all good for climate change good for social fairness but i gotta ask you dan. Is this just a plan on paper or is the city really like really taking action to make this a reality for clevelanders. That is a very good question. I would say the city of cleveland and private organizations. There are doing these things on kind of small scale but now the biden administration has come out with this infrastructure proposal and the senior director for environmental justice at the white house council on environmental quality. Cecilia martinez she says. It's basically a climate justice proposal. Environmental justice community and many of our black and brown communities have identified that connection between climate change and their own community infrastructure. They can't be disconnected and the money they are talking about is huge a couple of hundred billion dollars just for housing related things for renovating old homes and building affordable green nuance. Just one example. There's an existing program that helps pay for new insulation and more efficient heating equipment in homes where people can't afford it. The plan would multiply that programs budget at least tenfold. No guarantee that this will happen. Of course all this will have to get through congress and that will take a long time if it happens at all gotcha but it sounds like the cleveland plan could be impactful in the near future on climate precisely because it would change that infrastructure in the city right. Yeah you know. Infrastructure helps determine a lot of things. Like how you get around it kind of locks you into a particular structure of energy use and greenhouse emissions so if you're trying to shift your pattern of greenhouse emissions you kind of have to build a different infrastructure than what you before so i think that is what they had in mind with this infrastructure proposal. And i'll tell you. The people in cleveland are so excited about it. One of them told me we have spent much of the past decade preparing for this moment while dan. It seems like cleveland in particular is totally poised to make this transition or is at least trying to Thank you so much for bringing this reporting from there to us so nice to be here. "It's here now from W CPN idea stream in Cleveland Ohio, on an auspicious anniversary fifty years ago this week. The profoundly polluted cuyahoga river burst into flames. Now there's lots of myths about that fire, but it's legacy is clear it fueled, the country's young environmental movement later, the creation of the EPA, and the clean water act. For many, the river is frozen in flames from a photograph from that time. But the fires long gone. And as we found out at the river's banks that fire also changed the lives of Clevelanders like kayaker K Schneider. I grew up in Cleveland. I know Cleveland really well, but when I'm on the river, I have no idea where I am because I've grown up in a city where we've turned our backs to our lakes and rivers. And so we don't really know what it's like I'm walking around. I'm like, oh, that's a coffee. Shop. He used to go to all the time. But I'm paddling pass it. And I have no frame of reference at my geography. Read. Arise. All the time. Real. Yes, they're kayaking on the cuyahoga. It's more than the songs, written about it, like Randy Newman's burn on and to some natives, like Jane Goodman, executive director of the cuyahoga river restoration at songs part of the problem. Can we start with the myths about this? We've been listening to Randy Newman's. You're making a face. You burn river wish he would write a new song or at least a new verse the how it's not burning any more people who live here, think it's still burning believe me. There are people who say to me. Oh, you mean the river that catches on fire. Real. No. So let's set the record straight. So the actual fire in nineteen sixty nine was a few miles up river from we are sparked from a train going over a trestle lit some of the garbage on the river on fire, but it only lasted twenty minutes, give or take if there are no pictures of it. That's right. Not only because it was over so fast. But because it was such a common occurrence when it was mentioned the next day in the paper was like an inner page, it wasn't even front page news. And then time magazine picks up the idea of the river catching on fire does apiece, and they use a picture from nineteen fifty two which was much more photogenic. This picture is the thing that sparks literally, you know, excuse the pun the budding environmental movement, eventually EPA, explained the context, nineteen sixty-nine, what was going on that this became such a big story. It was a perfect storm Louis Stokes being. Congressman Carl Stokes his brother, having been elected as the first African American mayor of a major American city Carl Stokes recognized that this wasn't just a water quality issue. It was a social Justice issue. He got the city to pass a hundred million dollar bond to start cleaning up the river at the same time the time magazine article came out there was this terrific photo of the nineteen fifty two fire and people bought it because it was a follow up to the moon landing and on the cover was teddy Kennedy and a neck brace. It was the Chappaquiddick issue. So the reason so many people found out about it was because they read that issue of time magazine. Thank goodness because change began there, but Jenkin you describe we've seen pictures. We'll have somebody here now dot org. I can't believe the pictures of the cars that were lining the banks like abandoned cars knows I to what keep the riverbank back, when you don't respect a waterway as a river. You just see it as an open sewer dumpsite. You don't know how to stabilize banks, you put whatever you can there. "Heavy Friday, Billie. Sure I'm excited about this. You know, I've been a bit of a wet blanket when it comes to what's good. I haven't embraced the theme. I feel personally like I am in the right frame of mind for what's good finally. As someone that's been in that mood, every time we've played, what's good. I can refute your hypothesis. What was the first thing that I said? Yeah. It's counterintuitive the whole paper straw thing. And I don't want to be the fifteen thousand person that uses radio to rail against paper straws. Here's what I'll tell you. I for one. No. That I haven't ever been directly responsible for sea. Turtle dying, because of a straw, I've never thrown a straw in the ocean. I've never thrown a straw away on beach sand. Every time I get a straw, I throw it in a garbage can what happens after it goes into garbage. Can I can't be held directly responsible for we can agree? I don't agree with that. I feel like there has to have been one time in your life or you're at the beach in a coupla ends up on the floor. Like something, you're not aware of the straw. You've, you've littered a straw before that, you know, I never littered shrimp, I feel confident in saying this. Never on the beach or in the ocean. Never on the beach and the ocean. So I understand what we're doing because they're idiots out there that just like throw their straws right into the ocean. And we need paper straws now to punish me because these people can't throw their straws away in the garbage. Can here's what I'm telling you. It's counterintuitive I went to get an ice wrap a from a copy shop nearby. I got a large they gave me a paper straw, halfway through the drink. I can't drink the coffee anymore because a paper straws to Soghi and a full jober. So what happens, then I go downstairs, and I look for other straws guess what? The other straws down here at the clevelander are also paper straws now. That's understandable. Because it Clevelanders on ocean drive, which is right near the shore. I can understand it here. And you know what the coffee shop is also near the shoreline fine. Got paper straws, but they don't serve Tallboy drinks here that you need straws for. So the cocktail cups are smaller, and they have the paper straws. So I am this large plastic Cup filled with ice coffee. That's halfway done. I have these tiny straws. What does might do? He has to consolidate into a smaller Cup..

"It is way could take year audience be radio. Lebatardshow out today. Kurt you're gonna join us at eleven. Mike is up in New York. Mike. Are we expecting any special guests to come by the student? You're not where I was up in New York, which was right in the middle of the office, I was right by Jacoby desk. You seem to be in a much nicer place, then where I was up in New York City, they rolled out the red coleus terrible. Oh, oh man. It's been a long week long. We lots of travel, but I'm not in the cubicle where we put seeing Van Gundy in front of that window. They rolled out the red carpet. I'm here in the CNA. Smith. Studio is at a town will Cain is Atta town, and we have this fancy backdrop to really nice studio. I did not know you're in his studio smell, like, how is it? I just imagine he smells fantastic, the air conditioning is perfect. There is a sort of white ball of light when you walk in. In to the door, where he usually sits, relieves, his aura. I like to imagine that. There's just takes littered around the room hasn't used but that require him writing them down. And we know like any great battle rapper. Stephen a Smith is straight off the top. Mike is there anything from that studio that you feel like maybe you could bring home for me? I see a couple of items right behind your shoulder there. Like so. State coffee Cup the way that they do this. Studio is pretty amazing. I used to think that the Clevelanders sued ios worked at max efficiency, but all the radio shows Jalen and Jacoby. Stephen a Smith will Cain. They all emanate from the same room yet, if you watch them on TV it all looks like it's an different studio. They change each wall is a different studio. So it's pretty amazing in each wall has Bodos at our framed that are specific to that show and Jalen and Jacoby by far. The coolest wall is Jimmy Kimmel and Steven Naismith one there. There is a there's a photo of Bill Simmons. So I'm guessing that's the Jacoby Jacobean wall. Yeah. Yeah. Parliament. There's an older bastard, driver's license. I'm guessing the support of the Jalen and Jacoby set right now. But it's impressive do I look like I'm sitting in the middle of a white ball of light. Yes. You're glowing the best. You've looked I'm so mad at sue God's we can get into that later. Let's continue with wakened take I lied to it won't be the big time. I lost Razzi Kohl's Jimmy, Jimmy, you're on you take year on ESPN radio. Had yet. Jimmy line tenor. In the half. Court challenge say you got ten parts. You gotta hit the same putt that tiger hit on the eighteenth at the master's first part. Not the tappan crowds the same cameras are rolling. You get ten tries you make it everything comes along with being masters champion. If you miss all ten you never get to play another round of golf in your life. You taking the chance. How far was that putt? I'm thinking, I'm trying to think that right? The eighteenth all at Augusta this a couple of months like a couple of weeks ago, you're say. The first putty had, you know, you have missed that one. He hit the tap into win it, but the first one maybe fourteen fifteen footer downhill little, little slippery left or right? Right. But that's the putty missed, correct. Correct. That's the part you add any any tapped into win it. Right. So you're telling me, the fourteen fifteen footer eighteenth hole of Augusta? I get ten shots if I hit one time I get everything that comes along with being the masters champion if I miss it. I never play golf again. Correct. That is a great question ration. That is a great, great question..

"Boris live jets on the standup acoustic bass. Tonight. Return engagement from Jim Kogen Bach and Chris moss joins us for the first time. So Chris definitely a thanks for coming in. Welcome to the show. Let's just jump back to a comment that I made about as you guys said, but a lot of them really aren't hazy. So many explain that because I think that's an interesting point that we've never touched on before. You're dealing with a New England style. It does have that haziness that most people are looking for. But you're also dealing with a more fruity aromatic IP, it's not going to have that bitterness that a lot of them have. Gotcha. Now, you guys were last in gym was in in July mid-july, what's new since? Then I it's kind of a loaded question because I know something new is coming figured I'd tee it up for you this. So we have a couple of things that are that are fairly new probably the biggest is we are opening a brew pub in downtown and the Italian village on the corner of summit and Fifth Avenue that area is just exploding. Yeah. Yeah. So we're super excited about that. Matter of fact, we just had our our final walkthrough of the place grab before we showed up here. So we should hopefully be open here in several months. Okay. Well, we'll make sure to have you back in and talk about that. And did you give any thought aside from making another location in central Ohio? Was there any talk about maybe trying to go outside of central Ohio? Go to Dayton or go to Columbia Clevelanders Cincinnati or anything or was that not in the the picture? There is talk about it. But logistically Columbus like we're not really in Columbus currently with the the Worthington location. So we didn't have a real big downtown presence. So that that was kind of the the thought behind the the the initial there could be could be something in the more distant future. Okay in Cincinnati or Cleveland. But we thought the best move would be downtown for us currently in that. Italian village area. What would be just you know, as far as things to do. What are your closest neighbors there? So we have a lot of a lot of really close brewery friends north hybrid companies right down the street. We have brothers Drake is right across the street and then seven sunburn companies two or three blocks from and ho farted is six or seven blocks from us. So and we're one block from high street like said north is right there. So there's there's a ton of stuff to do. Right. They're easy to get to in a good destination. Kind of kind of an evening. You guys are distributed though. Correct. Retail outside. How hard is it to build brand awareness in those outer markets when you don't have a taproom there. It's it's pretty difficult. You know, every city has its different challenges. You know, there's certain certain challenges that come with like Cincinnati market versus the Columbus market versus Cleveland market. Cincinnati is really really kind of an interesting market specifically in right now, they are super local Columbus seems to be more embracing of like Ohio being local in Cincinnati is very very very concentrated on Cincinnati, local Y K. So it's a it's a tough. It's a tough nut to crack. But you know, we're we're having some success. We make some pretty good beer in in my opinion. And Chris and the the team back in the brewery, do a good job of producing quality product that that, you know, once people start trying it it kind of sells it self. So let's move on to the the second beer. Now. We're gonna sample here tonight. I'm going to have a sip in Chris. Go ahead and tell us what we're drinking here. And what's behind it? What you're drinking? Here is nuts for you. It is our spin on the peanut butter stout is really good who. Who doesn't like peanuts and chocolate? Tastes like liquid girl scout cookie. Is it the tag along that have peanut butter? Yeah. Yeah. Very thank you very much. You keep talking. I'm gonna keep drinking. Keep drinking keep talking eight percent stout. As cocoa nibs in it. And of course, we have the peanut extract to give the peanut butter flavor. But we stock you there is somebody with an allergy that would be a no go for them actually with the dealing with extracts. You're generally. Okay. Peanut allergy. Okay. We don't have. We don't have a a a warning on the label because the the that uses water soluble, and it does not actually have any any allergens in it. And it comes with a free epi pen, right? I this is a really good, man. That's super tasty. I know one of the other things that's new is the old rougher, Don. Dog beer had to bring that. I love dogs and tell us about all rougher rougher with something or taproom manager wanted to try. So we started doing some research and figuring out most of the time. Those beers are made of barley. So are worth that we use to make beer itself beef stock or chicken stock something along that lines and a lot of people add more different things to it. But figure keep it simple. And keep it sweet. And the dog seemed to love it. So he had literally a beer for dogs. It's a well. It's well, it's a drink the drink for dogs. There is no alcohol. There is no alcohol. There's no hops. It has not been carbonated dog say it's a it's a placebo dog beer when your dogs acting all hammered and everything there's nothing in there. Man man now that just came out in the end of February. Right. Is there is there any it actually just came out last week? And I don't know if there's any left if there is it's very very little. So we had we kind of had an event of it. Let for last weekend and. We had probably seventy five to ninety dogs out on Saturday. Was it was a mad house and then assigned sounds for Sunday. There was there was a few dogs that showed up for Sunday just to kind of get the remnants. So. Uber home. The dogcatcher was called in for some disorder. Lease. And you've got a a cat if the brewery to so sorted hops, have to go in hiding for the the dog event or hops never hides. Doesn't sweat the dogs. She likes her asking the dog. She sits glass. And just kind of she actually approved the beer when it came down to it. So she did it was hops. Will there be a cat beer anytime say, no, no, I hope not catnap they donated right, right? Once again, Jim go BOK in along with Chris moss. Chris is the operations manager. Jim is an owner at at zapped brewing. Moving into your six year now of brewing. What would you say was has been the most valuable lesson learned so far? That's a tough one. There's a lot of valuable less. There's there's there's valuable lessons anything that just comes to mind without getting too wonky about it or just never be afraid to change. I mean, you know, the the market has changed so much since we started originally. What would one of those changes be because we as consumers, we probably don't know. What that is. Sure. You see something and go. Wow. This is a sea change. So when we were when we first started out, you know, bombers twenty two ounce bottles in in package were a huge huge thing. And now they're almost completely extinct in the marketplace. Like everybody's putting things in cans, or at the very least twelve hundred six packs or four packs and bombers have kind of gone away completely. I mean every once in a while you can you can find some there are still some people that do them. But it's usually very very small runs. It's just it. You know, like I said, it you just gotta be able to roll with the punches and cat and kind of. Is there a reason for that? I think the I think that the customers have you know, I wouldn't say they've the customers have changed, but the craft beer industry continues to grow and more and more people are drinking craft beer and. You know, there's all different kinds of craft drinkers. I guess is the best way to put it in a lot of the big big bottles are are bigger high ABC or were at the time bigger high ABC beers that were like people were sharing or or enjoying with several people and twenty two ounces of beers. A lot of beers are gonna sit down drink it alone. Versus a lot of the newer craft beer. People. Are you know coming into the market, and they wanna have a lawnmower beer that's made locally or whatever and a twenty two. You don't want open a twenty ounce bottle. I think it's it's fabulous that, you're receptive. To what your people you want to give them your product and the best possible way that they want to consume it pretty heads up. All right. We'll get back with Jim and Chris from Zapotec brewing..

"Makes too big of a deal about him. No get to that. Coming up later in the show eight five five two one two four CBS right now, we go to the hotline. We welcome in From Compass media one of four three the fan in Denver as well. He played at the university of Colorado right there in boulder. He was a pro football player and a very good one and a very good linebacker and a three time pro bowler and a two time. All pro. We welcome in Chad Brown on the show chat. Thanks for joining us. No problem. Happy to be on with you. You were down at the senior bowl friend. What'd you see? Well, the senior bowl is I think at least for my coaches and front office people. It's perhaps the best opportunity the year to everybody catch up and hang out from perspective. And from a player perspective. I saw a quarterback class. It doesn't match what we had last year. And I saw a group of defensive linemen, which I think are going to be very impactful and the NFL. I'm glad you talked there. Right. There about the quarterbacks. I'll start with that for a moment. If you were if you are right now, depending on how you feel about these guys but a ravens fan of cardinals fan a bills fan a Browns fan a jets fan. Are you thinking God that you don't have to draft one of these guys in the first round is that what you're saying right now. Absolutely, absolutely. Having the chance to be there at the senior bowl last year and watch Josh Allen and watch Baker Mayfield. Go at it. I did not see that same level of leadership that Baker Mayfield show the same level of poison enthusiasm nor nothing close to the same level of accuracy. But I saw Baker Mayfield. And I saw from drew lock this you who's you know, pretty much the consensus number one quarterback on the board this year. So a big step down from Batur based field last year to drew lock this year. Chad Brown joining us on the show. So if you were maybe I will we'll throw that out there, if your Denver interesting trades are available. Would you make a big trade for maybe a veteran? Would you make make move for Nick foles? Or would you stick with case keenum? Or would you try to develop one of these guys coming up? We'll go with case keenum issue there. I if they trade him, I think the dead money on a cap about three million bucks. If they release them us about ten million dollars. So if you're gonna go after Nick foles, you're gonna have to pay Nick foles, pretty good money. You're gonna have to give up some draft capital to get him. Plus, you are you going to keep case keenum? Are you going to have thirty five million dollars forty million dollars a lot of to your quarterback room with between case keenum, and Nick foles, those kind of things I starting to get a little tricky with the salary cap. So I'm expecting Denver to try to go young try to go cheaper. And hopefully, you think that maybe drew lock will be the guy for them and can be the quarterback. The future. Let's not forget it was just a couple of days ago where John Elway said that case keenum is a short term fix. So he clearly put a temporary stamp on case keenum as far as his tenure as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos. What is the temperature out there with Broncos fans while we're on the subject about the job that John always done, especially recently because the quarterback issue isn't fixed? But you do have some good pieces there on defense and even across you offense of line here. And there. The temperature. Here is a little bit of distrust in in John Elway I say now the last draft class definitely performed well, Bradley chop Portland sudden even a undrafted rookie like Lindsay from my Colorado buffaloes, those guys played well in our seemingly cornerstones cornerstone for the future of the Denver Broncos. The previous four or five draft class the number of quarterback taken and tried to tip it to be the new quarterback face here. The Denver Broncos postpaid manage we. The assumption that Gary kubiak was going to be the office coordinator who you named him OC kinda before you brought in the head coach. And then you had the ugly party in other ways with Jerry kubiak. It's been a rough ride lady for John Elway in the fans are very much. We need to see a very good draft class again to be back on his side. I can dig at Chad Brown. Joining us one of four three the fan in Denver, compass media networks, former all pro former pro bowler joining us on the show, you mentioned that defensive line class that you're seeing they're getting ready for this draft. And then down at the senior bowl. How deep is it? Well, a guy who wasn't at the senior bowl, but quitting Williams Easter defensive tackle from Alabama. He's a real legit player. A chance to be at the last two national championship game, see his progression. From kind of a a substitution locational guys. Who now just absolute studying there guy from Alabama who was after senior bowl, Isaiah bugs another very good defensive tackle. And there's a couple of smaller school guys who were at the senior bowl borstal edge. Russia's who I think will also have an impact in the NFL can be drafted pretty high draft. Chad Brown joining us on the show. Okay. So so we've been talking about it all day, and I just got to get your thought on. And I'm sure you're probably tired of talking about it. But what the hell saints call what happened last week that we've had some people starting to call on. So and you know, saints fan should get over it. I think there's a difference between the teams in the fan base is fan basis can as long as it's not violent or relatively terribly vulgar. They can react the way they want and it's pretty negative. How do you feel about the call? How do you feel about the fallout about the call last week or non-cola should say? Well, I think the call was you know, clearly blown call. Did it could have been a flag for a couple of different penalties. When an eight year old football fan watching at home on his couch. Can point out. What is wrong with the call, and why that should have been flagged for couple of different violations. I think the NFL has a responsibility to change that process and to change I would like to see my former coach Bill checks suggestion that every play the review -able. It's so frustrating for football fans when something happens on the football field, and we see the officials on the sideline talking to the coast going over what parts of that call or miscall or actually reviewable. It's ridiculous. I say give coaches every coach to challenge flags per half any play they want to challenge, and I would open up atmospherics and things like that. There's been called judgment calls in the past. Let's just review those let's make those reviewable and get this process going to. So it's not so confusing. It's clear for easy for anyone to understand. And every play no matter whether it's a judgment call or not can be reviewed at the coach choose to throw a slack channel. That is what a lot of people think it scares me because you mentioned Bella check. These a scary person. Because I think a guy like him who's always ten steps ahead of everybody. Even though he's older than everybody. Basically is if we're talking about pass interference pass interference holding things like that that that can almost have it on every play. I think you can almost game the system if you were Bill Belichick or one of the other smarter coaches in the NFL. By limited. It's just you to sounds flags for half. I don't it'd be very difficult to you know. The scale so much that your creative. Use of challenge flags is suddenly Chiltern the gaming your favorite as I see would be there'd be a certain amount of gamesmanship, and and and coaching savvy that goes into the use of those flags, of course, there would be just like every other decision on the football field. But I think that will eliminate the obvious injustice that was done to the saints. Now did the saints have other opportunities to win that game yesterday. Did should they thanked fans? Get over this later yesterday should one call one play typically does not determine a football game. And I can point to other plays during that game either before or after that non call that could've gotten the same victory. Those plays didn't happen. So it's very easy for the saints fan to point the finger at that non call and not point the finger at their own issues and mistakes that happened either before or after that mess. Call. You played for four total teams you played for the patriots in two separate times. How different are the patriots compared to the other three teams you played for? Wow. Obviously the Pittsburgh Steelers are a amazing franchise. Seeler seahawks. Patriots so three right? Three teams breaching. Jess. Okay. Sorry. So the other two teams have different worthy. I beg your pardon. Go ahead. Chad the feelings an amazing franchise. I was there with Bill Kollar definitely a very very good head coach Bill Steelers philosophies kinda always been we're going to be more aggressive going to overwhelm you with how hard we're gonna play football. At some point. You're gonna wanna turn it down because we just play so hard so tough so physical and then when I got the Seattle Seahawks. It was for the first two years in the last six years being the Seahawk was Mike Holmgren, and we've all seen my call on the sideline with his glasses down his nose, very profess Oriole kinda thing he's got his place. He's calling the very similar offense to what Bill Walsh random west coast offense. He's a Bill walks disciple. It's more so about accuracy to the play design there. Then I go to New England and and my thirteenth year in the NFL. And that my first year doing what I learned more about football than I did in my previous twelve years. I learned more about the new wants to win football games. I did my previous twelve years and to kinda summit all up in a nice little tiny package. Bill. Check wants you to make the right play for all eleven guys on the field for the patriots on any particular play. He and his staff are going to work incredibly hard each and every player to understand. What is the right play to make in that particular situation car once you're gonna make gonna make the aggressive play the physical play the amazing athletic play. Mike Holmgren wants you to be slaves to the playbook, regardless of situation and things like that. Patriots are always about the right play to make because bill's been in in the NFL as long as he has been around football as long as he has he understands each given situation. What is the right place for every player to make? So that's why you see a guy like say going back to Bruce you might teammate with the New England Patriots. And he was not an amazing apathetic linebacker. But because he was taught by ballot. Check what the right play wasn't each situation. What the offense was trying to do what is manage go to throw in this situation. Teddy Bruschi makes amazing plays in the playoffs. The biggest moments in patriots history. Not because he was athletic because he was taught what was the right? Played in thirty seconds who wins next week. Wow. When you got to coach his youngest McVay going against the coach has experienced Bill. Ballot. Check when you got a quarterback inexperience Jared Goff going against Tom Brady who will be playing. I believe in his forty first or fortieth playoff game. Regardless of what I was a former patriot or not I leaned so heavily on experienced in big game moments. There's no is no bigger games in the Super Bowl. I've got to go with the patriots in this one. We thank you very much for the time all the best. My friend dragged me out. I appreciate it. Thank you. Chad brown. Joining us one two four three the fan in Denver, compass media network. Former all pro NFL or find him on Twitter at Chad Brown ninety four former Colorado buffalo, and of course, I'm hoping they're doing well because Mel Tucker is taken over and he's a clevelander want Clevelanders do well eight five five two one two four CBS.
