"The fact that public reports indicate that the Red Sox have a patch sponsor lined up more next year and they are just getting ready to drop that news at a certain point in time. And that's a pretty serious amount of money. So spend it, spend it wisely, have a plan. Yeah, and by the way, their payroll flexibility after this year after Xander Bogart's presumably opts out of his contracts is going to be staggering. Like the only contracts that they're going to have on the books are for Trevor story and for Chris sale and a little bit of money to Matt Barnes, like $8 million. Besides that, it's a clean slate effectively. So if I were to, again, you know, high bloom is not going to ask my advice, nor should he, but I would tell him you better plan to spend a lot of money this winter. And you got to, as a good faith gesture, to do your fans. Chris sale, 48 and a third innings in the first three years of that contract. What an utter disaster it's been for the team. All right, let's get to this week's phantom franchise. All right, buster, the year was 1958, and the Cleveland Indians home attendance was plummeting at an alarming rate. The club won the 1948 World Series and drew 2.6 million fans. A decade later that number was 663,000. They were some three and a half $1 million in debt, big money back then. And ownership was looking for an escape plan. The Dodgers and giants had just moved to Los Angeles and San Francisco, the browns, athletics and braves had also shifted in recent years and Minnesota was dangling a ready made major league stadium just waiting for a tenant to fill it. We obviously can't continue this way. He said Cleveland's chairman of the board and majority owner. William R Daley. Horse racing, he said, was ruining baseball in Cleveland. Cleveland has more horse racing dates than any other city in the U.S., he noted. If the club could have bet it could have betting in their ballpark he mused, then business might be better. He said that he wanted to keep the team in Ohio, but only if the community could support it. Meanwhile, he was entertaining offers from other cities with Minneapolis, Houston and Toronto, most frequently mentioned as potential landing spots for the club. Minneapolis agreed to guarantee 1 million fans a year for three seasons. A Houston group offered up $6 million for the club, which would have set a record. Cleveland's board of directors turned it down. Daily served noticed that they would move the team unless there was a substantial increase in home attendance. Simultaneously, the Washington senators were also eyeballing the twin cities where they would eventually move after the 1960 season. Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg, who had been fired as Cleveland general manager the previous year still owned about 30% of the Indians, and he was reportedly in favor of a move. A feud was brewing between factions of the ownership group and a back the Indians committee, led by civic leaders, was formed in August to help save the ball club for Cleveland. In October, 1958, with the clock ticking and the senators bearing down on Minneapolis, the team's board of directors voted unanimously to remain in Cleveland. The club is here to say, said daily. The civic effort to sell season tickets bore fruit as the club drew almost a million and a half bands in 1959, but this would be the last time they'd cracked a million mark buster until 1974. The Indians were rumored to be on the move at various points after this, but today we are imagining a world with a Houston or Minneapolis Indians or guardians and they are this week's phantom franchise. And you and I don't have to imagine a world in which the Cleveland baseball franchise and the Baltimore Orioles are selling out every game every day, Todd. Not incredible to think about. It's astounding. It was incredible how those ballparks were filled. Don't the guardians have a banner or some signage of some sort buster, which commemorates their sellout streak in the late 90s, early 2000s. I mean, that place was electric. And I can't help but think about being there for the 1995 World Series. First time that the fall classic was played in that city since 1954. The atmosphere was just unbelievable, good ballpark, fun downtown, a Gritty city, hopefully they have something something to grasp onto with all this sooner rather than later. And the same would go for Taylor's O's. Yeah, and you and I speak the guardians tied for first place in the American League central. All right, let's get to this week's quiz. All right, everybody. I need to reiterate the standings at this point in time. Busting on the pack with 9 Sarah with 6 within spitting distance and Taylor bringing up the rear with three. So here we go, week 21 of our quiz. The reds and cubs are playing in the field of dreams game in Iowa. Another chapter in their very long history. So here's this week's question. What was the cubs team nickname, the very first time these two clubs met on April 19th, 1890? Was it the ansons? The bears? The white stockings, or the colts. The cubs team nickname when the reds and cubs first met, foster covering the team, April 19th, 1890. The ansons, the bears, the white stockings, or the cults. Wow.

"On the league's top players. It's the golden state media concept's soccer podcasts. Listen and welcome back into this last segment rate here of the baseball podcasts. Where we're talking about the cleveland indians and their and their story as the indians. That's gonna end this year and i'll recovery around that time as well But this in in this This season of were returning is the season of nineteen sixteen. So if you remember in nineteen fifteen. He sold shoeless joe jackson. The owner summers soldi shoeless joe jackson. That's hard to say. Oh that's really hard to say a lot fast. All at once but somber sold shoeless. Joe jackson at the time one of the largest ever At thirty one thousand five hundred dollars and by nineteen sixteen summers was at the end of his tether and sold the team to a syndicate headed by chicago railroad contractor. James see jack. Done so jacked manager lee full. Who had taken over in early. Nineteen fifteen acquired. Two minor league pitchers stand kovalski in jim. Bait begbie and traded for center fielder trysts speakers who is engaged in a salary dispute with the red sox and all three of them would ultimately become key players in bringing cleveland championship. Speaker took over the reins as player manager in nineteen nineteen and led the team to a championship in nineteen twenty on august sixteenth. One thousand nine hundred twenty. The indians are playing the yankees at the polo grounds in new york. Shortstop ray chapman who often crowded the plate was batting against carl mays and this is a and he had a unusual underhanded delivery it was also in the late afternoon and the infield was completely shaded with the center field area in the batter's background the batteries. The batteries background bathed in sunlight. Because basically the way that the polo grounds Were shaped is that it kind of looks like a big v and then like a with like a little ring at the top sort of or actually i instead of a v you could just say it's kinda like a built. It's got a bit like a diamond. Actually and the way that the stand sat is they had these big stands to cover the fans in the shade but because of that uh fans shade interaction the sun the way it set it would cast a big shadow. Like right over the batter's box. You can't see the You can't really see the pitcher like where he's releasing the ball and at this time it's also the deadball era. It's also another name for the dead ball. Era is the blackball era. The ball would just get so dirty and gross that it would just become black. Which is why they called it. The black ball era. It's you know. Obviously these kinds of things are not too hard to think of. Sometimes but ray chapman's in the batter's backs facing carl mays and at the time quo every part. Excuse me at quote. Part of every pitcher's job was to dirty up a new ball the moment it was thrown onto the field by turns. They smeared it with dirt licorice tobacco juice etc in it's deliberately scuffed sandpaper at scarred. Cut even spiked sometimes and the results mishap an earth co in earth colored ball that travels through the air erratically intended to soften in the later innings and as it came over the plate. It's very very hard to see. In any case chapman did not move reflexively when mazed when mazes pitch ended up coming his way the pitch hit chapman in the head fracturing skull and chapman died. The next day will becoming the only player to stain fetal injury from a bought from a bitch to ball the indians who at the time reluctant three way pennant race with the yankees and white sox were announced slowed down by the death of their teammate and rookie joe. Seawall hit three twenty nine after replacing chapman the line. And that's actually really interesting because that year just in baseball it really in generally a really did need a commissioner because they had a player die on the field and they weren't really going anywhere. The players were really disgruntled. And that's a why the black sox scandal happened and that and it happened that year so everything. It felt just kind of came to a boiling point. Which is like one of like the black scandal. I don't think was the entire reason that the and will cover this another episode. But i don't think it's going to be. The entire. Was the entire reason that the commissioner was stated but i do really think that it was part of that and part the ball getting all like muddy and stuff like that they needed rules to really be enacted somebody to delegate kind of things but in september of nineteen twenty. The black sox scandal came to a boil. And with just a few games left in the season cleveland and chicago or were neck and neck for first place at ninety four and ninety five wins respectively. It was ninety nine thousand four hundred fifty four and ninety five and fifty six. The chicago owner suspended eight players and the white sox lost two of their final three series. While cleveland won four in lost to in their final two series. Cleveland finished two games ahead of chicago and three games ahead of the yankees to win. The pennant led by speakers. Three eighty eight hitting jim bagley. Excuse me gym bag bs. Thirty victories in solid performances. From steve o'neill stamp kolevski. Cleveland went onto defeat the brooklyn. Robins five two in the world series for their first title winning four games in a row after the robbins took a two one series lead. A we actually just kinda saw a two zero series lead in the nba finals more nba. Talk on this baseball episode. That's kinda funny for me but The series included three memorable. I all of them in game. Five at cleveland and all of them by cleveland in the first inning rightfielder fielder elmer smith hit the first grand slam in world series history. That's kind of a big deal right there. Then in the fourth inning gym bag be hit the first series home run by pitcher and in the top of the fifth inning. Second baseman bill. Wam gams executed the first and only so far. Unassisted triple play in world series history. In fact the only only series triple play of any kind any performed unassisted. There have been literally one hundred world series since that world series and it has not happened again. That is literally the rarest play in baseball. It only happens one time at like. Baseball is a game of chance eight. Apparently getting an unassisted triple play. Is the artist thing to do in the game like out of just basic statistics like a barely. That is the hardest thing to do. That is kind of amazing. But the team wouldn't reach heights of nineteen twenty again for twenty eight years and speaker and koetzke were aging and the yankees were rising with new weapons with babe ruth and the home run. They managed to second-place finishes but spent much of the decade in the cellar in nineteen twenty. Seven's dunn's window. Mrs george process done had died in nineteen twenty two sold the team to syndicate. They headed by alva bradley alba bradley. That is a funny name. But now bob bob feller enters the season and the indians were middling. Middling team the thirties finishing third or fourth most the years but nineteen thirty six. They brought cleveland superstar in a seventeen year. Old pitcher named bob feller who came from iowa with a dominating fastball. That years feller said off a record with seventeen strikeouts in a single game and went on to lead the league in strikeouts from nineteen thirty eight until nineteen forty one on august twenty nineteen thirty eight indians catcher. Hank heff and frank paul set the quote unquote all-time altitude mark by catching baseballs dropped from.

"Attendance to home games in eighteen ninety nine and obviously that is horrible. For a hundred and forty five spectators for nine thousand fans and the one hundred one road losses is also a record that is probably never ever ever going to be threatened because like with current scheduling practices home teams after play. Eighty one games. Eighty one home games at eighty-one away games like you can't even have that many away games played anymore unless you cow this year's Unless you count like this year's toronto blue jays if like you could technically count them but they're still not gonna have that many losses this year and then the nineteen sixty two the just put that in perspective. The nineteen sixty two mets and the two thousand three detroit. Tigers owned the modern worst record equivalents. The one thousand nine hundred eighty two mets won forty games out of their one hundred sixty with a record of one hundred and twenty or excuse me forty one hundred twenty eight point two five winning percentage and then the tigers won forty three games and lost one hundred nineteen in two thousand three for a to sixty five winning percentage those record holders and i really do. I wish that this team had not been sold. I think that one of the biggest reasons that i think. Cleveland fans are like live and die so much with this team is because been getting screwed out of eighteen for centuries now and while and we'll we'll we'll talk more about. I want this part two kinda come from the heart and then we'll finish up the last segment with kind of modern day just dr- like sadness and wall so talk about the one thousand nine hundred twenty twenty really but i want this part to kind of come from the heart a little bit and so as as you guys know i am a cleveland. Baseball fan Absolutely and. I mean that fandom is kind of dwindling as i get older and as i don't want to root against certain players i don't wanna have to root against mike trout and shohei otani and i'm starting to realize that don't necessarily have to and i'm kind of finding ways around that There's one phantom. I don't think is ever going to Really change and that is literally the. That's the cleveland browns. But i i want to. I want to bring back that twenty. The year twenty sixteen because that was by far cleveland's best year as a really just in professional sports because they had two teams to professional sports teams in their respective championships. And while the cleveland indians that year did fall short it was a magical ride and yeah we would definitely like to have that championship back and am i always worried that the rain is gonna come when something good is happening now. Yes but cleveland was expecting in that summer of twenty sixteen. They were expecting around. I think they said five hundred thousand fans to come out for the cleveland. Cavaliers parade and that number was closer to three to five million. It was a large amount of people that all came down to cleveland to celebrate a win and while that was a little bit special because it was the first win so it might have got a few more people out than expected. But it didn't have people who you know just crying and so happy because of how much that team phil. I watched a documentary recently on those nineteen ninety cleveland indians with manny ramirez and bartolo cologne and And the list goes off. Jim thome you have albert bell than the list really does go on. And and as as cleveland is people. Say that cleveland is good enough to just get you close enough to break your heart and it's true it really is true. You take a look at that twenty. Sixteen finals with the with the braun in the nba. The basketball and this is the baseball. Podcast but cleveland really does get close enough to break your heart. They almost lost the cleveland. The cavs at year were on the brink of elimination in that series for four straight games. So your heart rate is already going up. Being cleveland fan having good teams. Because you think you're gonna blow it and then you're about to blow it and then you don't and then it's just joyous and then the exact opposite thing happens for that baseball team but when you were watching that team it wasn't and this is from a fan perspective but when you were watching that team play. It wasn't a you. were proud to be. Were like to be where you're from. You were proud to be from the state of ohio. I was very proud of my mom. Lives from northeast. ohio like near near cleveland. like it's it's something that you take a lot of pride in and you want your city to be represented. Well and i think that's one of the biggest reasons that cleveland care so deeply about these teams. I mean cleveland. Ohio is it's a beautiful place to go and see and live in but it's not for everybody and there's not a ton of stuff that's really going on to like make them excited about being there especially during like the winter but during the summer they have a lot of stuff to do and win a sport team doing well the whole city rallies around it becomes even more special. It's because of those moments that you get with your kids. It's because of those moments that you always remembering you always cherish with. Your friends is so much more than just a team. And because of that. I i really do think that. The cleveland spiders. The best name choice so mostly on social media and things like that. It's between the spiders and the guardians. And now i am one hundred percent on the spiders train. I think that it would be just such an omen is to two cy young to so many players that played all like on friar cleveland teams to name it what it was before the team was sold again like before the team was taken out of the hands of the fans before these fans were told that this is going to be run like a side show. You're not gonna wanna come here. So then they don't come. And then they closed the franchise like instead of just maybe letting that one that franchise go under or merging. The two franchises together. No they the owners decided to go and buy a separate franchise because they just had that kind of fu money at the time to go. Buy a second professional franchise and say that you're just going to run one of the teams like aside show and i. It's kind of amazing to me how that person doesn't understand how how those people don't understand like how business works like of course if you tell people it's not going to be a good product then it's not going to be a good product if get rid of what's bringing the people to the stadium then absolutely. That is exactly what's going to happen. They're not gonna come because you're saying hey remember this guy that you really like to watch. Yeah he's playing over there and most of the games that you could have come to in gone and seen him play in just different uniform but still go see him play. You're not gonna do that anymore either. Because we're going to also make cleveland. Just go on the road the entire time lake. I don't get that at all. I don't understand the thought process. In that. I don't get it in the slightest and like i just i i. I am afraid that. I'm afraid the guardians isn't the isn't enough of a change because if you look at the pictures the guardians look a lot like native americans and i think that the spiders have a very rich history. That's that's mostly why i'm going with it. Because i like the history behind spiders. And i think it could be the literally the ultimate redemption story. Like how great would it be. If cleveland were to put together a decent roster toward the end of this year where they're competing to absolutely urge to where they're ready to compete with everybody next year or Whatever year they ended up changing name because they might not even change next year but regardless. I think it would be such a great story. If cleveland were to go back to the spiders and also i kind of think the logos are a little bit cooler too. So i'm gonna leave it at that. And we are going to finish this segment talking about the cleveland indians. At after this short break want to know the latest and soccer that listen to the golden state media concepts soccer podcast from m. l. ask the world premier li. We've got you covered the latest. "The spiders were left with essentially a minor league lineup and began to lose games at a record pace drawing almost no fans home. They ended up playing most of their season on the road. And became known. As the wanders. The team ended the season in twelfth place. Eighty four games out of first with alzheimer's record of twenty one hundred and thirty four point one thirty. Winning percentage following the eighty nine season in the national league disbanded fourteens including the spiders franchise. The disastrous eighty nine. Season would actually be a step toward a new future for cleveland fans next year and And then also a eighteen ninety. The cleveland infants were nicknamed the babes. The the cleveland infants complete competed in the players league which was well attended in some cities but club owners lacked the confidence. Continue it past a season. The cleveland infants finished with fifty. Five wins and seventy five losses playing their home games at brotherhood park and brotherhood. Park is also home to the brooklyn. Pirates the new york giants the philadelphia athletics and the pittsburgh Burs that's who were all in brother park that is a former baseball ground located in cleveland. Eighteen hundreds was the east coast in. Not even that. It was like the northeast coast Okay codified relatively interesting. But like i said. Cleveland was the national associations. In mid august disbanded at the end of the season and then seven years later in eighteen seventy nine through eighteen eighty one. It was the cleveland city. The cleveland forest citys were recreated but rebranded in eighteen eighty two as the cleveland blues because the national league required distinct colors for that season the blues mediocre records for six seasons and were ruined by trade war with the union association. Were just gonna be talking. Mostly about the cleveland indians. Now as i said earlier I if that was in an earlier episode. Hopefully that is up and posted on the twenty fifth should be but i have to promote or to create content. That is gonna be timeless. Indians are a professional baseball team. Based obviously in. Cleveland ohio they've completed. They've competed in the major leagues as as a club. Member of the al central division since one thousand nine hundred four now the american league obviously it was a little bit earlier. They've been playing there for a while but they've been playing since the in the al central division since oh four now. They have played at progressive field. That was also called the jake. It's also they've also played at cleveland municipal stadium. I mean we'll. We're going to talk a lot about this. "Go from the sublime to the ridiculous. Don't wait we see headlines. Cleveland indians change the team name to the guardian. I don't know why that cracks me up so much but it does. I don't want the cleveland indians to ever win another baseball game for the rest of their existence. That's so stupid there won't be anymore anymore. Cleveland indians indians is offensive so they changed it actually now. We got the washington baseball team. Now we got the cleveland guardians with this stupid logo. "No. I think that francisco lindores some house going to bring some magic. And they've got they've been building plenty of momentum and if you watch them in spring training there's tons of chemistry going on tons and i'm like man their smiles on their faces and that goes a long way so i really do think the east is going to be rough in the national league. But i think the mets are gonna pull it out. Ok okay. that's philly. I got philly initially. I did ya actually on my on my notes here. I do not have philly. But i'm actually bumping them up. I'm going to take philly. Who did you have i. I'll tell you there my wildcard team. We'll get there okay. Okay okay. all right. I've got my car too because i think i think they're going to recover this year. Yes i've said thousand times. A bullpen trouble. Bolton bullpen is a huge issue. But if you're going into the offseason. This was our only weakness. Let's figure out. I feel like you can come back next year. Be dangerous especially when you're retaining the best catcher in baseball though. He might be hurt right now. You've got one of the best. Our best hitting outfielders in bryce harper. You've got you've got a great team. Just thirteen was a was a problem yet. So i think they're going to bounce back this year and do really well and take the division over the mets. You really think so over the mets. I think the mets are the bats are going to bed. I said at nine. I'll say it again. Not afraid break. Fine this in the central. I have saint louis taken the central.

"I feel like i feel like otani is like the one good piece to have an entire pitching staff though. Oh yeah but they're not terrible terrible no no. They're not terrible terrible. But like you can't try to guy out every five or six days and expect the team to respond and win every one of those games much less with carryover win every two or three games after that right and that's my big thing. Why still have the angels down force in the division. Yeah and i mean that makes sense. There could be some trades coming up. There could be you know who knows. But i think that they're going to win. Just enough games but it. I think it'll be edged out. It'll be close. I it's not gonna be. They're not going to run away with anything they're going to fight for it. Yeah it'll be good race either way. I think the west is going to be. I think yeah. I think so okay. Who you're your wildcard picks. I have toronto and houston is my wildcard. Okay okay. I mean i think toronto is going to be really good. I mean we. I think we all do. I mean you have them with division. I just think they're not gonna. I don't think they're going to be able to withstand late season push by the yankees to hold the division. But i think they'll have enough of a lead over everybody else in the wild card that they'll be able to able to the wildcard see and i feel exactly the same way about new york. They're going to get my wild card slot here because they're the the hiccups that they're gonna experienced partway through and these ones that they're already in the middle of our you know are going to leave him just like i said. Just it's going to be a couple of games. It's going to be close But they'll still beat out everybody else and they're gonna take that wild card slot pretty easy time going to be a question. Yeah yeah. I think i think the alias is going to be one of those ones where it's like okay one to go to the playoffs and then everybody else in the in the league everyone else in the american league would fall in line after that other team like. I think they're going to take a step back and that's because they're not going to. They're just they're not gonna run away at the division this year.

"You had him to use your number. Three guys well well. He was on the list. I was going to the third one. You were going to reveal. Well i i was gonna do last. But it's okay. We can do him. Now stu now so this is this is. The thing is the thing that i have with nap. Lajoie is that k. Not only is he a hall of famer. He wanted triple crown three time batting title. But he was a player manager for the cleveland indians. That but here's the thing. Let me pull it up real quick. I had to switch windows on my phone real quick so he was a player manager for a number of years. I say as i filibuster. Why scroll down he. He was a manager starting in one thousand nine hundred five and was the manager until nine hundred ninety nine and he was also a player during that time and then he kept playing beyond looks like he was their best player in nineteen ten but he was the best player and the manager at the same time. That takes a lot of work. You've gotta be really good to be able to both of those and also be the best player in Let's see was. I've got nineteen ninety six or seven and nine. He was the best player and manager stunning. That's legit That's that's that's having coached baseball. I can't imagine playing and coaching no for sure. And so he played with cleveland from nine hundred ninety two to nineteen fourteen. And here's what kills me. He was aged twenty seven to h thirty nine when he was playing for cleveland during that period. So this gets it gets even better. He played second base first base and shortstop during that period while he was a manager for part of it. now that's a utility infielder. Think about it as we have a utility infielder who split time as a manager for at least a few years in there he still manages a seventy nine point ninety six war during that time period. I mean this is crazy guy. Hit thirty four home runs drove in nine hundred nineteen. Rbi's just in his time in. Cleveland stole two hundred forty bags. Come on this is insane. This is say it'd be like having that would be like having Mike trout manage or francisco. Lynn door there. You go or even. Mookie betts managing the go. Yep it will be no would be like it would be like Dj lemay hugh managing at the same time last season this year ago for winning the silver slugger nomination for golden glove in the runnings for mvp all the same time. Yeah.

"Yeah but yes kenny. Lofton is my first choice for mount rushmore. That's great that's terrific. Ready for the overlap. we're about to experience. Yes it's not. it's not kenny. Lofton for those. You wonder okay. My name i could one of the names i could not get away from. Was jim thome me. I just can't can't talk about cleveland. Without talking about jim thome and i don't think that will come as any surprise to people. Five time all star hall of famer. He's silver slugger award winner. Seventy two point nine war okay. That's that's huge. Now the best thing for me about jim thome e and his career in cleveland was nobody cared about jim thome e when he was coming up in fact he spent a bunch time in the minor. Leagues bounced around here and there Worked on this worked on that. They actually moved his official position to first base late When he was up and back and forth back and forth back and forth between aaa and major leagues so for me his kind of cinderella story. His redemption is as much of a testament to his career careers as statistics are and i think it's awesome. And he's a great just a i think he was signed by cleveland. Right out of high school and then he went to juku or something for a while and then he came back and was signed by cleveland again. Something like that. I mean they had their eye on him for a really long time. And i just think that I just think he's great plus that that look on his face is just so. It's just perfect. Right beneath chief wad is i won't i can't get into it but if you know what i mean you know what i mean. You know what i mean. I know he was actually my next guy list. You're right the overlap. I knew her and like you said hall of famer and you know one of the things. That always drove me crazy. I hated gym told me as a player absolutely hated him. Because you knew that if he was up and the indians or you know later on the phillies or whoever. He was playing for white sox if they needed a home run if they needed a home run he was gonna hit it yeah..

Cactus league cactus league special. It's like a blue light special but it might have been. I don't know. I don't know but anyways let's with this. Let's go onto let's go onto salvador perez for the royals signed a four year extension worth eighty. Two million dollars now break. He's a guy who i thought had been around like. He's been around for a long time. I thought he was way. He's only thirty thirty years old. Yeah but you're right. I mean his career has taken somewhat of a decline still. Well is he. yeah. I think he won. The gold glove didn't he. Did he really hold on my thinking. The same fund out all right anyway. Because if that's the case then i'm either i'm far off or i'm thinking of somebody else. Because the this got a fifth year team option worth thirteen point five million dollars in a that includes two million dollar team by outright. Yes it does. So so that makes the contract worth about ninety five million total ninety five depending on how they play it right at at that fifth year team option for that fifth year at thirteen point. Five is not so bad. So let's do the math. He's thirty you say that puts them at thirty five. That's pretty good deal for him. Yeah i would say so. Yeah what does that breakdown to annually do. Did you do the math on that annually. No it's not even it's not a it's pro rated deferred and all that stuff right. Yeah it's he's got a certain amount coming every year. Like i want to say it's like twenty twenty two and I want to see it. I mean it's about twenty one million dollars about twenty to twenty one million dollars a year Is about what there is about doing there so he did not win the gold glove last year. It was roberto perez with the indians. But this is the thing is that i do know that. Salvador perez has been injured over the last couple years right so like you said his has to. He has taken a bit declined but he like you said he's only thirty..

Francisco Lindor: New Hope For Mets Fans?

"For a big splash. A big domino to tip over and the mlb off season and we got one yesterday. The new york. Mets acquired francisco lindores and carlos carrasco from the cleveland indians for two shortstops in two minor leaguers and enormous transaction. How surprised are you that this happened not surprised at all. Buster olney is the host of the baseball tonight partly cast and he has been covering baseball for more than three decades. Look the last few years there had been so much industry speculation about when would the indians trade lynn door. In fact a couple of years ago. Paul dolan their owner told that the fan base look. Enjoy while you can. Because it was an assumption he was going to be traded. I think if not for the pandemic he would have been traded in the middle of last summer so the indians move in now and the fact that the mets were the buyers. That's not surprising either. Because i think mets fans have been waiting for Steve owns team to to make a big move and he certainly did that. And getting the best shortstop in baseball. Yeah i want to ask you about the cleveland side of the equation in a little bit. But i i wanna dive into the buyer that you mentioned because steve cohn buster. The mets new owner hedge fund billionaire self identifying proudly so diehard mets fan from long island. He's been on twitter. I'll off season making very loud noises about this being a new different kind of organization. You know we want to be excellent in all areas of this game That's going to require resources. And i'm fully committed to making that happen. He is so monumentally. Wealthy i mean he was one of the few people who didn't lose money in this pandemic shortened twenty twenty season. So what does this tell you about the promise of his regime yeah. He's the richest owner in baseball. Now and i. I wrote a piece Free espn dot com. That for mets fans who have suffered through their. Ptsd of the wilpon. Yes this is that the finally they get their reward were they have an owner. Who's willing to go toe to toe with the yankees owner. Who bills a team. That has continued success. I don't just want to get into the playoffs. I want to win a championship. You know through the years. Since i've been working in the new york market the assumption whenever a really big name came up. Was that the yankees. Probably elbow the mets out of the way and they would get the players in the in. The mets would operate like an upper middle class team rather than a big market team and this deal signals a change in that. But what i do believe. Is this a major markelle tune during the should have a budget to measure with the yankees coulda used shortstop. There are other big market teams. That could use a shortstop. And the mets get the best shortstop so because you are a veteran of the new york market i need to know how is indoor going to help reshape. Just the identity of the team itself because i mean nolan reported future about him. We'll get to that a bit as well but just how good is he. What's potential here well. He's the perfect player for the mets right. Now he's an elite defensive shortstop smash back can't buy off-balance throw in recent years jacob. Degrom has been great. Despite the fact that mets have been really poor on defense. It's shorts especially they need more lineup. Ballots lindores a switch hitter. They could use more power drill door with law. Law door hits for power. They could use speed lindores does that. He looked like the road runner as he took off from first base and he absolutely has the personality to be the face of a franchise in new york. You talking about someone who loves to play is nicknamed mr. smile. Hangmen fans absolutely will gravitate toward him. Yeah

"The with kevin mason. I saw the news. Come down late sunday night and i knew things would start going crazy on my facebook timeline and just some email strings because i have a lot of friends in the cleveland area and of course the news came out that the cleveland indians will soon no longer be the indians. What they're going to change their nickname to nobody knows they've said they're not going to be like the washington redskins not washington football team and go without a nickname for a year or two the one thing i can say as a lifelong cubs fan. I know the pain following the cubs. Then i spent a decade northeast. Ohio and i thought the phantom of the cubs worldwide was big. But it pales to the phantom of the cleveland soon not to be indians in northeast ohio the cartoonish face of chief wahoo graced more heads because everybody wore a cleveland indians baseball cap. All around they got chief wahoo but now they're going to get rid of the name that goes with it. I understand why. And i understand the pain. People are feeling because they don't know a world without anything else.

"The Angels aren't interesting. Phenomenon because they haven't been all that good in recent years. But wherever job bad goes, he seems tto win and he's the new manager there so that they should be okay and the Mariners probably won't be any good, but you look at that division. It's still going to be a good division, but I think I think the Rangers find a way to get to at least 500 over. The wind told the Texas Rangers over 29 a half I'm going over 33 a half with the Cleveland Indians. And the reason I go over 33 a half with the Indians, even though they lost Cory Clubber. They're in field. Is very good with Ramirez, Lin Door and Santana. They've got some big bats there, and they have the veteran manager Terry Francona, Terry Francona seems to get the Indians to at least 90 wins almost every year. Anyone. You look at that roster, you say, Oh, maybe this is the year they drop off, Or maybe they had a slow start This year, he finds a way to get that team almost 90 wins every year and a lot of times over 90 wins. And this year I'm sure Francona will Look at the way he's managing that team and manage it for a sprint through 60 games, rather than the long haul of 162 game season. So I think you look at the Cleveland Indians and you say in that division, they're going to play the ale Central. They'll play the NL Central. I like over 33 a half wins for the Indians. And I look at the White Sox is a team that everybody thinks is going to be really good eventually, and a lot of people like them this year, but that's a team with a lot of new faces and a lot of young guys, so they're over under 31 a half. I don't think I touched it either way. If I had a better guy probably go under just because of them trying to adapt So many new guys..

"Anderson wanted to get both buck farmer, and I'll contra inning here. Just so they don't go into the off day and then go into that game series. So just to keep them sharp brings up Wellington Casteel. His a fastball lot of movement. But it's again that's not where he wants. It is it. I mean that's middle of the strike zone. A lot of movement of middle of the strike zone. Yet is it is it lateral movement to you know, from left to right where you know, you you want a little tilt to that you know, that sink to it. So you get some ground balls rather than those little light drives that we just saw. From Okada castio to for three today. Plus a strikeout Tigers pitches. Struck out ten swinging pop-up foul behind home plate Greiner back has room. Makes you catch. Nice play. And that was a pitch the did dive in to the right hand better. So the two twenty strikeout game talking about Tigers history where they have struck out this many times in a game. The max Scherzer game the Roger Clemens game in ninety six. This is only the fourth time. The Tigers team has struck out as many as eighteen times in a nine inning game. The other time was nineteen thirty eight. Against the Cleveland Indians. Take just go out on a limb and say that Bob feller pitched that game for Cleveland. Take a look. There's a swinging amiss. That's a good fastball. Darting in ninety four off the plate to a righty. An angle at the play. His first ad bet is a defensive replacement for Jose Ron dome. So this is only the fourth time in one hundred and nineteen years of Tigers baseball they struck out as many as eighteen times in a nine inning game. And there are still three outs to go. Righty on righty angle takes fastball. Just misses with those are three really good fastballs. Now the last two batters. I told you I had not seen this. And you're proven that that it does not happen that often. Kept totally him up anything with this is ridiculous number. Well, it's historic..
