"Ado. Ace 'cause be here he is with his joke of the day. Why was the child's blanket arrested? Why? We're being in accessory for kidnapping. We got three more. Thanks. This is sweet Joe. I tell you this. It was thrilling. I didn't know why. Because we're coming up, we have an interesting story about a day care center in which the people who are accused of getting the kids melatonin. I saw that story, Tom, and I thought what a great idea. We'll find out. There he is. It's Al Jackson. And it looks like you're at the master's Al. You've got that beautiful green grass behind you. The headphones sound like you're about to talk. And then the 15th hole. Where are you? Are you in your studio? Yeah. I am in my studio, dean wanted it nice and bright in here today, so it looks like a grow house for mushrooms and wheat. So that's kind of maybe I'll do that on the side. Yeah, it does look like you're sitting in front of a, some bushes, some hedges outside the queen's castle. It's like we're ashamed politician has to go to give their speech when they've been caught doing something with an intern. I'm going to step away, just spend some time with my family. The important thing here, it's about me respecting my daughter to unblock me. I don't think politicians have shame anymore. I don't think they apologize for anything. I think they're done. And I wanted to tell you this before we even get started. It is so funny. B and T list are hit me up because I spoke about this earlier. There was a tweet I said, I'm on Valentine's Day. Did I ever tell you guys the story about my first Valentine's Day date? No. Oh, okay. Okay, you have to picture, guys, this is a pre Internet America. Okay. Al Jackson borrowed the late great his father oath the jacksons. Toyota 4Runner. Which is a big deal at the time. Took this took this super cute out of my league black girl on a date. And her name was Kirsten, which I remember at the time thinking, I've never met a black girl named Kirsten, now things have changed, but that she was a pioneer at the time. And so we go to the ground round, you know, I'm from the Midwest. Shout out to the ground round. Does anybody remember the ground? I remember. Hell yeah. Yes. That's right. And I think they used to have they gave you a basket of popcorn as soon as you sat down. That was like their thing and then I don't know. They weren't the people with the peanut shells on the floor, but anyway, so I'm at the ground round and I'm on my first date and we wrap up dinner and the bill comes. And I open up my bill fold and pull out a check. With the Cleveland Indians logo on it and I had just pulled out a pen like and who should I make this out to? We don't take checks. All right. Oh. But I didn't know. I thought like a check was like a form of payment everywhere. I was like, I guess I've been seeing American Express commercials. Because I was like, oh, well, they I'm sure when the waiter was like, does this do? Think he's about to write a check at a restaurant. And so I panicked, but this is in a weird way. This told me, maybe it was like foreshadowing for what my career would be, which is thinking on my feet quickly because I had no money. And this is like before the days of even really having an ATM check card, those are still kind of new and experimental. So I found the manager. I told him what was happening and I said, if you'll let me go home, I promise I'll come back and pay. So the manager was like, cool. You gotta remember there's no way to track me. If I walk out this door, he's out the 32 50 or whatever we paid for the buffet. And I told the girl I was like, oh my God, would you believe that, you know, I left my wallet at home. This guy's gonna let us go. We go back home. My dad gives me cash 'cause that was my wallet at the time. My dad, and I went, I went back to the ground round and paid the bill and then went and dropped her off and then proceeded unfortunately to never see her again. But I went on a date with a hot chick and it showed me it was possible. It was like Rudy getting in for those two plays. And I was like, okay, it's on now. Nice. Oh, that is nice. Al Jackson is our guest Al is a distinguished stand up comedian. He's also on the famous daytime talk show daily blast live where you can see him. Usually a more serious Al. They're usually when we have to be. That's why I'm so happy when it's just like when sometimes they're like, we just have goofy stories of damn like great. It's fine. I love that. I love the goofy stories. No, we got all kinds of goofy stories. Al this is what we specialize in. I don't know if you guys maybe I don't know how much input you have on what the topics are, but we did have a world record today for speed dating. In Belgium. I used to work for a Guinness Book of world records show for a hundred episodes, so I'm very into world records. Did you ever speed date? Yeah, did you ever do that? I would be terrible at it. But you'd probably be pretty cool. Oh, I'll be great. I never tried it, but you're right. That would be my skill set. You know, short meaningless conversations come on. Bars for years.

"Who do you root for injuries. I guess i mean over the weekend travis. Trip saying the national anthem at at the the final game game six. This is from the washington post. Travis trent who by the way travis is blocked me on twitter. I have no idea wild. Or whatever what i ever did to make that guy mad. But he blocked on twitter. Here's the headline travis It who against vaccine mandates to see national anthem before game six of the lcs if game six of the national league championship sheri's were held at dodger. Stadium country star travis. Trip probably would not be willing to perform the national anthem doing so would violate the georgia natives. Off stated policy gives performing in an even you that requires patrons to be vaccinated against the girl. Virus proof of vaccination or a negative corona virus has been required for entry into dodgers games throughout the postseason the t. p. home of the atlanta braves does not have such a policy. Trips will perform the national anthem. Saturday night the braves chose it because he's a big fan of the team. Most teams bring other most high profile fans this time of year but the choice is somewhat puzzling because it seems to court unnecessary controversy given trip stance against vaccine mandates. It's only a controversy if your world revolves around politics the los angeles. Times sportswriter bill. What's his name is upset because of the racist tomahawk chop. In fact sports writers across the nation have been saying the same thing the tomahawk chop is. We're going to have to endure that of the world series. You know the hot thing pieces are coming any second. Now we're going to get some hot takes from members of the press who are progressives and covers sports. They're just going to be a horrified. Who wrote for the cheaters are the racists. It's only a matter of time before they do that. You know it. It's gonna be miserable for all of them. Good good let them come to terms with this game and see if they can set aside their politics maybe they will not participate but the way in notice. It's progressives who are constantly dragging politics in do they not realize the turkeys and the braves have come to terms about the tomahawk chop. It's it's supported by the team. The team has no desire or interest to change. Its team name. Unlike the cleveland indians the braves have encouraged tomahawk chop. Could it is tradition. It is not offensive. Invite you you interview your average american indian. They're totally fine with it. It's only the progressive white people who are upset about it why you know. It really is remarkable to me. The amount of time western civilization now spins placating rich white atheists. Transgenderism is a is an issue of rich white secular people. The offense at the time chop rich white secular people pretty much everything we do in society. Now you're fossil. Fuel burning car upsets the rich white secular atheist. People everything we do in society. These days is ordered around placating. The sensitivities of rich white secular atheist people as dave chapelle pointed out No one would be bullied about accepting or not transgenderism if it weren't for a bunch of white dude rich white dude decided they're transgender now..

He has a favorite that I can't name because I don't want everyone should went up there trying to be clay. But you know, we we haven't hung out. But we do communicate when we see each other and he's a great guy, and I'm really looking forward to to his return. I mean, he is He him and staff and the magic that they do on the court is not something that I've seen since the whole um, who was the diet Shaquille and Kobe will be would do it. And then who's the cutest team? I mean, Chicago, Scottie and Michael. Yes. Yeah. Michael? Yes? Yeah. Yeah. We love those dynamic duels. And I missed that. And I'm hoping that will be back soon. And Mayor breed. Forgive my ignorance on this, But did you I'm going to get Did you go to Washington High schools? Are you in? Hell? "It is time for our last segment. That's hugh humor health and happiness okay for our humour story now. Let's talk about the cleveland. Major league major league baseball team formerly known as the indians originally founded in eighteen. ninety four. they have now decided in twenty twenty one to change the name from the indians through the gardens guardians. Now did you know that in nineteen. Oh three the team was called. The cleveland naps. That's right cleveland maps. Now they didn't change the name from the naps until nineteen fifteen when they changed it to the indians and for than a hundred in what fifteen hundred ten years or so the cleveland indians had a mascot called chief while home. Now i wonder how many iterations of images go through for chief Wa who in speaking of mascots. Just who do you think. Their mascot was when they were called the naps. Hate to know what that looked like. You buck we Might have been might have been anyway. So when they were called changed their name in nineteen fifteen to the indians nineteen twenty. The cleveland indians went on to win a world series. So since then they have not won a world series and it's over a hundred years at least we could give the buck some credit. They want one after fifty years. So i kind of believe that. The cleveland now to be known as the guardians are hoping praying that heaven somehow shine. Look down on them. The baseball heaven and the baseball gods will give them a new championship under a politically correct. Name the guardian..

"These attempts to overturn the election. So it's all bullshit y- y fund them when you can just talk about them like important thing ever but not actually spend your limited money on them aright number to the us woman. Soccer team is a very good example of what's going on earlier this week. They unexpectedly lost to sweden three to nothing and americans were happy about it. Prove that point. Before i even said it america first. He's got a crowd rooting against america in favor of the socialists swedes. While they're white the swedes or wait zero country. He likes that. He always talks about believable in this section. He said his makes you lose ruins. Your mind ruined you as a person Then he accused the left ruining baseball. Because the cleveland indians changed their name to the cleveland guardians then he attacked lebron james and he said the ratings went up after his team was defeated. Donald trump's point is that the ratings for the nba. Finals were higher than for the first round of the playoffs. That sort of stands to reason. But there's a real a real rant a real anti athlete anti american rant here. That is in stark turn anti transit one point two that was the lebron the lithuania tax transgender athletes journey quite a journey. But i also. I also think this is you know media and i were talking on thursdays pod but an example of like a culture war. The democrats should not shy away from like. Give me Cleveland and give me the under under. Mm. Cool. All right. I am going to go to Texas and Global. I feel the Yankees taking on the Rangers tonight. Garrett Cole on the hill. Means the Yankees are gonna win. The question is, is that over under a 7.5? Jordan Lyles, former Rocky on the hill for the Rangers. Oh, man, he's gonna get shelled. Probably, uh, seven half that's a low number. Let's see if the Rangers can at least get to runs means all they would need is to get six. So let's go Yankees in the over About this man. Carlos Rodón Reflects on Near Perfect Game, No-Hitter

"Time in five days. We've got a no hitter in Major League baseball. Carlos rode on of the Chicago White Sox Does it tonight. Against the Cleveland Indians and ate nothing win for the White Sox and a tremendous performance for a dad who took a perfect game into the ninth. He's come back from elbow and shoulder surgeries. Had that perfect game going into the ninth. He lost it with one out when he hit Roberto Perez with a pitch on Perez, his foot. Still, he got the 20th no hitter in White Sox history and Hard to imagine for him afterward. All the hard work finally paying off a lot of work. Ah, lot of people. A lot of help. Um, went into this to come back, and I'm just I'm just happy. I'm happy. I'm here again. It's

"No. I think that francisco lindores some house going to bring some magic. And they've got they've been building plenty of momentum and if you watch them in spring training there's tons of chemistry going on tons and i'm like man their smiles on their faces and that goes a long way so i really do think the east is going to be rough in the national league. But i think the mets are gonna pull it out. Ok okay. that's philly. I got philly initially. I did ya actually on my on my notes here. I do not have philly. But i'm actually bumping them up. I'm going to take philly. Who did you have i. I'll tell you there my wildcard team. We'll get there okay. Okay okay. all right. I've got my car too because i think i think they're going to recover this year. Yes i've said thousand times. A bullpen trouble. Bolton bullpen is a huge issue. But if you're going into the offseason. This was our only weakness. Let's figure out. I feel like you can come back next year. Be dangerous especially when you're retaining the best catcher in baseball though. He might be hurt right now. You've got one of the best. Our best hitting outfielders in bryce harper. You've got you've got a great team. Just thirteen was a was a problem yet. So i think they're going to bounce back this year and do really well and take the division over the mets. You really think so over the mets. I think the mets are the bats are going to bed. I said at nine. I'll say it again. Not afraid break. Fine this in the central. I have saint louis taken the central.

"Yeah seventy. Seven seasons out of his eighteen year career led the league in strikeouts and in in nineteen forty-six he started forty two games at thirty six. Complete games ten shutouts and somehow did not win the mvp that year. I don't know how okay ray for this you'd be a run away with it for now. The aglet he threw three no hitters three twelve one hitters. That's insane. He holds the club record for strikeouts at two thousand five hundred eighty one and he has a club records for innings pitched at three thousand eight hundred twenty seven. I mean that's that's crazy. Got the club record for wins at two sixty six over one sixty two and this is the best part ready for this. I found this. You're gonna love this guy. The indian signed this is from Cleveland sports talk dot com. The signed bob feller as a teenager for one dollar and an autographed baseball. Yep that's right. He made his major league debut as seventeen years old in nineteen thirty six. And how did his cheeky. How did his debut go question. Mark he struck out fifteen batters course he did. Oh man. that's crazy to think about this a seventeen year old doing that. You don't have how many how many how many young kids go that long. And their major league face fifteen batters and our major league debut. Now no please. And they're not seventeen not even close their twenty one no not at least it's only three twenty four exactly so on opening day. Nineteen forty bob. Feller became the first and only pitcher to ever throw a no hitter on opening day. He threw a no hitter on opening day. In one thousand nine hundred forty that is just bonkers midseason form mid-season for him. That's was i can't even believe it. Man pitching record in club history. Every single one wasn't surprised. Only part of that is because he pitched for the he pitched for the indians for eighteen years especially now. We don't see that with guys who are top. Tier pitchers yep Especially with the indians because they actually said this week they couldn't afford to build a team around around francisco indoor and that's why they traded him yet. They're definitely not going to be that with a pitcher. They're not going to keep him around. But these these These club records gonna stand forever. These ones for cleveland for sure. Oh yeah never gonna change. Yeah yeah definitely that. They'll always be bob dylan for that reason. Well anyways the same team. That's also unheard of these days. Pretty cool i love that. Yeah yeah it is. It doesn't happen often anymore either. we'll.

"You had him to use your number. Three guys well well. He was on the list. I was going to the third one. You were going to reveal. Well i i was gonna do last. But it's okay. We can do him. Now stu now so this is this is. The thing is the thing that i have with nap. Lajoie is that k. Not only is he a hall of famer. He wanted triple crown three time batting title. But he was a player manager for the cleveland indians. That but here's the thing. Let me pull it up real quick. I had to switch windows on my phone real quick so he was a player manager for a number of years. I say as i filibuster. Why scroll down he. He was a manager starting in one thousand nine hundred five and was the manager until nine hundred ninety nine and he was also a player during that time and then he kept playing beyond looks like he was their best player in nineteen ten but he was the best player and the manager at the same time. That takes a lot of work. You've gotta be really good to be able to both of those and also be the best player in Let's see was. I've got nineteen ninety six or seven and nine. He was the best player and manager stunning. That's legit That's that's that's having coached baseball. I can't imagine playing and coaching no for sure. And so he played with cleveland from nine hundred ninety two to nineteen fourteen. And here's what kills me. He was aged twenty seven to h thirty nine when he was playing for cleveland during that period. So this gets it gets even better. He played second base first base and shortstop during that period while he was a manager for part of it. now that's a utility infielder. Think about it as we have a utility infielder who split time as a manager for at least a few years in there he still manages a seventy nine point ninety six war during that time period. I mean this is crazy guy. Hit thirty four home runs drove in nine hundred nineteen. Rbi's just in his time in. Cleveland stole two hundred forty bags. Come on this is insane. This is say it'd be like having that would be like having Mike trout manage or francisco. Lynn door there. You go or even. Mookie betts managing the go. Yep it will be no would be like it would be like Dj lemay hugh managing at the same time last season this year ago for winning the silver slugger nomination for golden glove in the runnings for mvp all the same time. Yeah.

"One nine war so again. That was fifteen hundred games Sixty six hundred plate appearances on and on. And the guy is just an all-star come on seriously yeah for those are legit numbers especially during the time. Yeah and deadball era. This is dead ball. Yeah so that's crazy. He led the league in games. Played in one thousand nine fourteen and in hits that same year he led the game in doubles a bunch of years. I mean we're talking. Nineteen twelve nineteen sixteen eighteen nineteen twenty twenty one twenty two and twenty three rb is he he was he pulled in one hundred thirty. Rbi's in nineteen twenty-three led the league that year is he was mvp. One time He's in the hall of fame. Three time world series champion batting title champion. I mean if we had guys like this today the whole the game would be totally different. I feel like this is. These are insane numbers so on. It's crazy you mentioned that because now you've got guys winning the batting title. Their teams don't win exactly yes. It's astonishing it's almost like everybody should get a trophy or something. It's almost like there should be a salary cap. The owners from themselves. I don't know ask come on brad. Almost like the collective bargaining agreement should be reading cheated at the end of the season or something along the same vein with this gesture that come on now all right. Let's take a break when we get back. We're gonna have our to final mount rushmore guys..

"Yeah but yes kenny. Lofton is my first choice for mount rushmore. That's great that's terrific. Ready for the overlap. we're about to experience. Yes it's not. it's not kenny. Lofton for those. You wonder okay. My name i could one of the names i could not get away from. Was jim thome me. I just can't can't talk about cleveland. Without talking about jim thome and i don't think that will come as any surprise to people. Five time all star hall of famer. He's silver slugger award winner. Seventy two point nine war okay. That's that's huge. Now the best thing for me about jim thome e and his career in cleveland was nobody cared about jim thome e when he was coming up in fact he spent a bunch time in the minor. Leagues bounced around here and there Worked on this worked on that. They actually moved his official position to first base late When he was up and back and forth back and forth back and forth between aaa and major leagues so for me his kind of cinderella story. His redemption is as much of a testament to his career careers as statistics are and i think it's awesome. And he's a great just a i think he was signed by cleveland. Right out of high school and then he went to juku or something for a while and then he came back and was signed by cleveland again. Something like that. I mean they had their eye on him for a really long time. And i just think that I just think he's great plus that that look on his face is just so. It's just perfect. Right beneath chief wad is i won't i can't get into it but if you know what i mean you know what i mean. You know what i mean. I know he was actually my next guy list. You're right the overlap. I knew her and like you said hall of famer and you know one of the things. That always drove me crazy. I hated gym told me as a player absolutely hated him. Because you knew that if he was up and the indians or you know later on the phillies or whoever. He was playing for white sox if they needed a home run if they needed a home run he was gonna hit it yeah..

It's been addressed in the last two years for sure you know but i i do wonder about the math site like that's really what what caught my was like oxycodone. Okay i see that but the math. I don't know yeah. I don't know about that shirt that might have been a bolt a bolt by book purchase. You know two for one kind of i. Twenty one pounds of math. You see. we'll throw in some oxy you know. I don't know it was a a spring spring cleaning splitting spring clearance space sale spring training the spring training special right cactus. Cactus league cactus league special. It's like a blue light special but it might have been. I don't know. I don't know but anyways let's with this. Let's go onto let's go onto salvador perez for the royals signed a four year extension worth eighty. Two million dollars now break. He's a guy who i thought had been around like. He's been around for a long time. I thought he was way. He's only thirty thirty years old. Yeah but you're right. I mean his career has taken somewhat of a decline still. Well is he. yeah. I think he won. The gold glove didn't he. Did he really hold on my thinking. The same fund out all right anyway. Because if that's the case then i'm either i'm far off or i'm thinking of somebody else. Because the this got a fifth year team option worth thirteen point five million dollars in a that includes two million dollar team by outright. Yes it does. So so that makes the contract worth about ninety five million total ninety five depending on how they play it right at at that fifth year team option for that fifth year at thirteen point. Five is not so bad. So let's do the math. He's thirty you say that puts them at thirty five. That's pretty good deal for him. Yeah i would say so. Yeah what does that breakdown to annually do. Did you do the math on that annually. No it's not even it's not a it's pro rated deferred and all that stuff right. Yeah it's he's got a certain amount coming every year. Like i want to say it's like twenty twenty two and I want to see it. I mean it's about twenty one million dollars about twenty to twenty one million dollars a year Is about what there is about doing there so he did not win the gold glove last year. It was roberto perez with the indians. But this is the thing is that i do know that. Salvador perez has been injured over the last couple years right so like you said his has to. He has taken a bit declined but he like you said he's only thirty..

"I don't remember the top of my head. But i know they're doing it this year. And i i. I think that's part of it is because of the increase workload. You know going like i said in Hundred extra games giving those guys some time off. But also i think for them. It's travel as well It's something that jerry. Dipoto has toyed with the idea of over the last few years that you'll give those starters an extra day off and that helps with the travel owed so i. I don't know if that's something we're going to see more of across the league or or what we're gonna see but again goes back to the opener thing right like there's more creativity in the lineup in starting rotation and middle relief in closing and i mean the entire way were watching pitching evolve as we're like we're right in the middle of it right now. Yeah yeah because they're really trying to to save. Those pitches are trying to save guys from going six seven innings Yeah and you know. There are days where i saw. When i was covering college when i was we're in school in is covering Covering ncw baseball that those that college college baseball teams will go with a full bullpen day. Where it's you have your bullpen. Come out everybody pitches. One to two innings. And it's not something you saw with major league baseball. But i've seen teams do it especially in the playoffs. Yeah for sure. Yep and that's three. What's that i was going to say. I wonder if that's part of these. And they're going with openers lot more so they don't have to go with the bullpen day. That makes sense but then you add the three the minimum right and i think you just plan on guys going the full inning as much as they can right. Yeah yet right but if it can only be one or two. So will we ever get away from starters. Brad that's the question. I don't think we will because there are guys who you just want to try to go. Seven or eight innings. I mean i. If i was a yankee fan i wouldn't wanna see somebody come in for one or two innings that have garrett cole come into the third and risk having risking being behind no no war i would want garrett cole to come in from the first right announce his presence with authority intimidate that the lineup. From the very beginning from the get-go right so then the next implied question is will we see that starting pitching Like length diminish. Will we go from so used to be. Starters pitched the whole game and then right hitched to seven a nen. They pitch you know now. We're looking at four five even you know and you pitch all the way through five. That's like that's the magic number to get your win but it's also we're dropping below that sometimes often. Actually right yeah. It's not uncommon to see pitcher porn. Two thirds exactly. So do you think is a lot of the analytics go ahead and do you think it's is gonna go below that. Are we going to see or we're gonna hit a new stabilizing point at four or three and change no. I don't think we will. Because the reason they're going to foreign two thirds and five is because they don't want a pitcher to be seen the third time through the order right because that's the issue is that they're having these the analytics or saying third time through the order is when the.

"They handle otani because he says he wants to hit more. And i i don't think he would have signed with the angels if if that wasn't something they had talked about beforehand well and not only that but with the advent of this new opener thing. We've been seeing all last season. This is just another great way to do that. Maybe he only comes in for two innings on the mound and that's perfect application. I don't know that's pretty cool idea though. It could be had thought about that. Because you got a guy with tommy. John surgery twice now exactly. He's not going to have a lot but he's what he's got is awesome Oh yeah yeah. He's he's he's still got it. That's for sure. But yeah you definitely. Don't overwork him. I don't feel like he's a guy you want to be your starter anymore for that reason right but put him an opener spot and gonna do this double switch thing could be pretty cool job. Find a way for sure. He will find a way for sure all right. Let's stay in the la metro area. But trevor bauer a little bit. So trevor bauer thinks the increase in the workload from last year to this year will be a problem for pitchers and what he means by. That is going from a year where there was only sixty games to a year where you have the full one sixty two. It's funny that he's saying this. Because was it last year or two years ago. He was wanting to go on four days rest. Yeah but that's all the people to go ahead. Well they were in playoff contention then and he was thrown rocket fire right. There was nothing. He was unstoppable. Yeah this is my thing with trevor. Bauer though is that he's been. He's been like known as one of the hardest working pitchers in major league baseball Not only that. But he's had you know kind of his his progressive and i guess liberal views on his workouts and things that he does to get ready for games and he felt like he could go on for days rest was that because he was trying to increase value was he trying to maximize his numbers for when his his big payday came up. And now he's gotten paid. He was like well. I think every six days would be best interesting. No that's a good perspective. Brad and i think there's probably a whole lot to that Yeah that's that's a really great insight and thought about it that way. I just my initial reaction to this statement. The he made was there goes. There's the old trevor bauer. there's the one the one we were annoyed with before. We thought that maybe he's right. You know yeah. I don't know and the mariners are actually going to a six man rotation. I think they did it a little bit last year..

"6 22 700 WLW you create sports talk. Presented by Kelsey Chevrolet. Terminate your loan early, surly, regardless of maker model with the loan in termination least program at Kelsey Chevrolet throughout 50 and 2 75 at the Lawrence Burg exit might boost Octus was on the Red Side Stove league show last Wednesday night with Tommy Thrall in Gym Day, He said something That, um Think will be music to your ears. This was talked about at length in terms of sports talk extra innings last year, it was the subject of great angst and debate from fans throughout the season. It was about the way the Reds approached their advance. They were the way they went about things in the batter's box. And the frustration that came with that they hit 2 12 is a team the inability it seems to shorten the swing with two strikes to hit it the other way against the shift to get the run home from third with less than two outs. There was a lot in play last year. That added up to frustration of an offense that simply didn't seem to have another of a plan or the ability to execute that plan. And then Mike Moose, Takis said this on Wednesday night going into spring training them that's gonna be a focus of ours is being able to manufacture those runs and in other ways instead of just relying on the home run You know, Obviously, the game's changing on home runs are huge. But in order to be a championship team, you've got to find ways to score runs other ways. Then you know, with the pitching step that we have, if we can get a lead going into those later innings and give those guys a chance to shut the door. I mean, I like our chances. Mike Moustakas last week. Thoughts. Is that not something you wanted to hear? It's our focus this offseason. Our focus. He didn't say my focus. It's our focus that that means it's something that has been discussed amongst the team. Not Mike Moustakas. A my focus is I gotta make it. Our focus is to find ways to manufacture runs other than the home run, which is, Biggie said. But in order to be a championship team, we need to find other ways to score Besides the long ball. You know, it's such a mixed bag when you look back at it, I mean, it's not like they led the league in strikeouts Last year, there's 30 teams in Major League Baseball. They were 12th and strikeouts. The average major league team last year struck out 534 times. The Reds struck out 500. They struck out 5 34. The average team struck out 5 20. So what did inordinate amount of strikeouts I think you you'd probably win a bet on this. They finished Tied for the National League lead in times walked They walked a lot. 239 times the average major league team walked 203 times, so they did do their share of walking. They worked the plate appearance. They saw the second most pitches of any team in baseball last year. Next to the Cleveland Indians. I think some of this is clearly There's different levels of this. There's a bigger picture of all this part of this, you could say is great American ballpark in the enticement that comes in this ballpark, and it's so inviting. Let me just lift the ball in this ballpark, and it's gonna be a home run. There's also the reality of what covert did last year to baseball. It was a springs training that that started get up and running and then ended early. And then hitters didn't hit for two plus months. And then they came back and they got two weeks to prepare, and then they went at it. It's a lot easier if you're a pitcher during the pandemic of 2.5 months off, you know, Nate Jones told us he built a mountain, his Barnet was throwing into a net. Lot easier to do that for a picture that it is for a hitter to find someone to throw him pictures or a batting cage, the throwing fastballs and breaking balls, curveballs, changeups, you name it so clearly, if if you look there's a lot of guys who seasons you look and say, what the heck was that Christian yell. It's what's up with your season a year ago and others But then there's the kind of the micro of all this of stepping into the batter's box and what the plan was what the approach was. Don't know if you would second this, but I remember so many times seeing the reds take a strike and thinking, What do you want? What were you looking for? What were you expecting? In that count? At that point, I looked it up today. They looked at the sixth highest percentage of strikes of any team in baseball last year. The inability to create action. The mentality of the long ball and it's I hesitate to. I don't pin this on Jesse Winker. I can use him as an example. And yet if you're going to criticize anybody for their offense last year, the last guy would be Jesse Winker. Because Jesse Winker was their best offensive player last year, and it wasn't even close. But man, the visual I have Is Jesse Winker swinging so hard? He would fall down. He would drop to a knee. And I remember Eric Davis has always talked about, um, approached the plate and and balance and balance being such a key. And and it made me think of Jesse Winker and watching him completely and totally off balance by a swing that would bring him out of his shoes and and drop him, sometimes to any sometimes the seat of his pants. The inability to spray the ball the other way in the approach, All right, I've got two strikes. Let me shorten. Let me let me shorten my swing. Choke up a little. Let me maybe spray it the other way. And yet, if you remember one of the one of the quotes of last season that drove everybody batty, referring to the fact the Reds were hitting into bad luck. Well, part of that. To a certain extent is true. If you look blast season, a.

Francisco Lindor: New Hope For Mets Fans?

"For a big splash. A big domino to tip over and the mlb off season and we got one yesterday. The new york. Mets acquired francisco lindores and carlos carrasco from the cleveland indians for two shortstops in two minor leaguers and enormous transaction. How surprised are you that this happened not surprised at all. Buster olney is the host of the baseball tonight partly cast and he has been covering baseball for more than three decades. Look the last few years there had been so much industry speculation about when would the indians trade lynn door. In fact a couple of years ago. Paul dolan their owner told that the fan base look. Enjoy while you can. Because it was an assumption he was going to be traded. I think if not for the pandemic he would have been traded in the middle of last summer so the indians move in now and the fact that the mets were the buyers. That's not surprising either. Because i think mets fans have been waiting for Steve owns team to to make a big move and he certainly did that. And getting the best shortstop in baseball. Yeah i want to ask you about the cleveland side of the equation in a little bit. But i i wanna dive into the buyer that you mentioned because steve cohn buster. The mets new owner hedge fund billionaire self identifying proudly so diehard mets fan from long island. He's been on twitter. I'll off season making very loud noises about this being a new different kind of organization. You know we want to be excellent in all areas of this game That's going to require resources. And i'm fully committed to making that happen. He is so monumentally. Wealthy i mean he was one of the few people who didn't lose money in this pandemic shortened twenty twenty season. So what does this tell you about the promise of his regime yeah. He's the richest owner in baseball. Now and i. I wrote a piece Free espn dot com. That for mets fans who have suffered through their. Ptsd of the wilpon. Yes this is that the finally they get their reward were they have an owner. Who's willing to go toe to toe with the yankees owner. Who bills a team. That has continued success. I don't just want to get into the playoffs. I want to win a championship. You know through the years. Since i've been working in the new york market the assumption whenever a really big name came up. Was that the yankees. Probably elbow the mets out of the way and they would get the players in the in. The mets would operate like an upper middle class team rather than a big market team and this deal signals a change in that. But what i do believe. Is this a major markelle tune during the should have a budget to measure with the yankees coulda used shortstop. There are other big market teams. That could use a shortstop. And the mets get the best shortstop so because you are a veteran of the new york market i need to know how is indoor going to help reshape. Just the identity of the team itself because i mean nolan reported future about him. We'll get to that a bit as well but just how good is he. What's potential here well. He's the perfect player for the mets right. Now he's an elite defensive shortstop smash back can't buy off-balance throw in recent years jacob. Degrom has been great. Despite the fact that mets have been really poor on defense. It's shorts especially they need more lineup. Ballots lindores a switch hitter. They could use more power drill door with law. Law door hits for power. They could use speed lindores does that. He looked like the road runner as he took off from first base and he absolutely has the personality to be the face of a franchise in new york. You talking about someone who loves to play is nicknamed mr. smile. Hangmen fans absolutely will gravitate toward him. Yeah

"The with kevin mason. I saw the news. Come down late sunday night and i knew things would start going crazy on my facebook timeline and just some email strings because i have a lot of friends in the cleveland area and of course the news came out that the cleveland indians will soon no longer be the indians. What they're going to change their nickname to nobody knows they've said they're not going to be like the washington redskins not washington football team and go without a nickname for a year or two the one thing i can say as a lifelong cubs fan. I know the pain following the cubs. Then i spent a decade northeast. Ohio and i thought the phantom of the cubs worldwide was big. But it pales to the phantom of the cleveland soon not to be indians in northeast ohio the cartoonish face of chief wahoo graced more heads because everybody wore a cleveland indians baseball cap. All around they got chief wahoo but now they're going to get rid of the name that goes with it. I understand why. And i understand the pain. People are feeling because they don't know a world without anything else.
