"I mean, he's a home run hitter, but these are two entities working together to create a televised sports being that matters more and it was interrupting wake forest and Clemson. And I'm like, man, I don't know that there's a greater sign for baseball dying at our doorstep. That right there, then how mad young people are that minor league football, minor league professional football is being interrupted by the Yankee star who has a bunch of home runs. Man, things have changed. So that is an excellent point. And let me just I'll brag about my column again, which you seem to enjoy when I do this. But don't read mine, by the way. You seem to read yours a whole lot, but you don't read my columns a whole lot as you think I'm a retired writer. Well, you know what? Okay, listen. So here's the deal. I write this column or I might have been just on Twitter where I talk about how over the top the reaction of the college football fans were. They acted like they were being held hostage and kidnapped. Someone responds to me, I think on Instagram and they say, well, you're a Yankee fan. Imagine if someone did a split screen during a Yankee playoff game, you have to understand Clemson wake forest is the equivalent of a Yankee playoff game. Thank you for making my argument and touring my point. I don't think you proved your point. No, no, that guy proved my point that he's deranged. I don't believe you think Clemson wake forest is a playoff game. College football, college football fans are deranged, yes. Thank you. Yes, but yes, they are deranged. But I am not going to judge the college football fan who says I prefer the 11 minutes of total football action. I get in Clemson, wake forest, then a Yankee playoff game because I don't care about baseball because it feels to me like cricket because baseball fields like cricket.

"New York's attorney general got involved, and she had no idea the game was free. That was her problem. That was an apple TV question. What is more accessible in 2022? Yes, or Apple TV. Well, see, to me, this has been my argument on this every week. To me, it's the double, well, the Apple TV game is free. So it doesn't apply here. But it's usually where you're paying for cable like you pay for yes, and then they put the game on, Amazon Prime, for instance, which you have to pay for. It's them milking fans for double payments that irritates me about the streaming. The accessibility is what it's accessible. I don't like watching the game that way, but it is accessible. To me, when you get hit for the double payment, basically, because a lot of us are still paying for cable. Yeah. Yeah, same here, by the way. So it's like you say, okay, yes, I'm going to get the Yankee games. Oh, wait. I go somewhere else to pay for a Yankee game. I still don't understand that. Now, I might need you to straighten me out on this one because the reaction from fans that I saw on the Clemson wake forest split screen with the Aaron judge at bats. Made me think that, I mean, we have a serious problem with sports fans being deranged in this country. Now, again, I'm a Yankee fan. So, I don't know, maybe I'm coming at it from that perspective, but I was thinking about it as a Yankee fan. If I'm watching a college football game. And they cut into show any at bat from any player going for any record. I am not going to get worked up over two minutes of the college football game being on a split screen. It's like they want away from it. They did a split screen for an at bat. You would have thought someone burned the country down to the ground or something. I could not believe how angry people were about that. It was shocking to me that people would be so wrapped up about that. What was your reaction to that? So my personal experience, I'm a University of Texas grad, and I was watching Texas play like crap against Texas tech when that was happening. Please more split screens. Can we show something else to get my mind off this garbage that I'm watching right now?

We had the udoka story in the coverage of that, we have people going crazy because ESPN cut into Clemson wake forest with an Aaron judge at bat, Stephen a and Malika Andrews fighting. I'll give you a quick train of thoughts, update here on our best bets. I hit mine last week with the ravens over the Patriots. I am now three and O on the season for best bets. Sal finally got off the schneid. He had the cults had no business winning it, but he did. So he's now two in one. So for this week, Sal's going with Arizona plus two on Sunday, the cardinals are playing the panthers in Carolina. Sal is going on with Arizona plus two. I had written down two games that I was looking at. Arizona was one of them. The other one was Dallas. So since Sal took Arizona, I'm going to go with Dallas. They're only given a field goal at home to the commanders. I think the cowboy defense against Carson Wentz is going to be a big problem for the commander. So I'm going to go with Dallas minus three. Cells are going to Arizona plus two. For the best bets. All right, and then the last thing I need to tell you quickly, if you missed any recent episodes of the podcast, check them out in the archives rich eisen was on last week, Andrew marchand two weeks ago, Al Michaels three weeks ago, Matthew berry, four weeks ago. Subscribe to the SI media podcast, leave a review on Apple probably read it next week with Sal when he's back. All right, Brian Curtis followed by Lindsay McCormick and Rachel Jennings right here.

"And we're back for the final hour and it's been quite a show. We started with hinden hooker, the starter for starting a quarterback for Tennessee. Now a Heisman candidate has Tennessee has this weekend off before LSU and Alabama. Let's get back to the calls in gunny is up next in Georgia. Hello, gunning. Hello, Paul. How you doing? We're doing great. Thank you. Just have a comment to make about the auburn head coach. I was watching the Penn State game at the end of the first quarter. Through a incomplete pass that nobody on the coach and staff noticed that they could call time out and over and would have gotten the ball back. They already had it down and field goal range. And things like that is what happened at all. Everybody's not in the game. Everybody's not staying on top of everything. And I always wanted to tell you that I really appreciate you and the Joe I must say your program for years. And I was going to buy my Purple Heart since I heard you talk to GM well ago I think you deserve something else. And by the way, when did you win the Purple Heart? In the Gulf War? Oh wow, that's fantastic. It's not fantastic, but I'm glad you you're still around. It's fantastic. I don't have to pay for my tag. I don't have to pay lorem tax in the county, I live in. It is pretty nice. And it's hard to get a ticket to have per year over so you realize you just blew a stop sign. What did you, what did you do during the war? I was with connoisseurs, man. Really? Like all this long range reconnaissance. Well, thank you for what you said and did you notice that play? That's the end of the first quarter and the Penn studied all over again. No. The quarter ran out before they snapped the ball. And all my quarterback through an intercept and they could have challenged that and give them the ball back with you already had it in the red zone, which will have been a sure three points, probably. But no valid challenge. So on a plane getting back. So I missed the beginning of the game. We've got to thank you again for sharing your story and you'd be well. Very, very interesting call there. Cat daddy is up next. Big bow looking good sounding good. Always that usual. Boy, that gift from Ohio. He show gives you the business. Don't he? He does. He's just always got an axe to grind. Well, I'm gonna tell you. My daddy told me years ago that, you know how to enter the Civil War was that you listen to us, grant Robert and Lee got together and have come back. And they both said, how are we gonna stop this thing? You know the south can't win. And Robert E. Lee said I know that he said by all in this wolf, you promised me Tucson. You Yankees can calm down south and rent out hotel rooms and Myrtle Beach and eating our restaurants two weeks. And I'll end the war and grant said you got a deal. And that's the way it's been. I knew that was what happened. I've read all these books about appomattox and I never I never saw that. Well, you must find bombs sometimes you have to read between the pictures and learn history. But I will make a prediction. Clemson, almost lost to wait for us and should not have won that game. They are going to get that butt speech in the valley by NC state, go wolf pack. As NC state ever won a game they were supposed to win, what a big clips on a couple of years we go in North Carolina. To me, that's one of the most underperforming teams of all time. Just when you're counting on them to do something, they don't do it. Where are you Tyler like you told Mark Clemson too? I'm a tell you something. I don't know how to break this to you, but Clemson has won two national championships in recent years. How many is South Carolina one? Oh, you got me on camera. Let's find bomb on. You gotta read between some time, Kat, daddy. Dylan is up next in Tennessee. Hello, Dylan. Dylan did not make it. Elliot is up next in Ohio. Hello, Elliot. Hey Paul, thanks for taking my call. I don't know if we're going to call it the power of Paul or the curse of fine bomb but here's the deal. Every time I get on Twitter during a game, I predict the Texas was going to be back. So Texas is playing are coming back. They got Quinn viewers on the 20 yard line. He's had an incredible drive. I get on Twitter on about the sends you a tweet to say, in your face Paul, Texas is back. And then Quinn, at that moment, at that moment, I'm touching this phone. Quinn gets taken out. Clemson wake forest. I predicted an upset. Wake forest is going to upset Clemson. Okay, we made it over time. I still think they're going to do it. They score first in the overtime. I send a tweet this time. Literally send a tweet in your Facebook, quince has gone down and then look what happens. So when Ohio, when Ohio legalizes gambling here at the beginning of the year, I'm going to call you for your pick so I can make some money because I don't even know what to do with this. Kelly, there are a lot of things. I love almost everything about the college football season. Predicting games is my least favorite. There's no upside anymore. I used to do it every week and a newspaper.

"Dot com. We are back in the big story earlier today, Brett. Your mark. You know the name? If you're Beyoncé and Jay-Z you do, but if you're a fan of the big 12, you're probably going, is that guy going to be our next commissioner? What's going on here? Bruce Feldman from the athletic talking about that and many other subjects. Bruce, good afternoon, and I mean, there's always these surprising stories that we had it with clay yakov and there have been some others, but what do you make out of what appears to be the new big 12 commissioner good afternoon? Good afternoon Paul. Yeah, it's a name that's worked in sports. I mean, before he was the COO at roc nation, he was spent a long time with the Brooklyn depths in the MBA. And he was also at NASCAR. So he definitely knows his way around the sports world and everything I had heard from a reporting last night at the athletic about him becoming the FrontRunner for this job, it's really about how he wowed the people in leadership around the big 12 for the search process in the interview process. They saw him as a guy with, as it was described to me as a rolodex like no other. This guy is really connected to a lot of heavy hitters all over the sports world and beyond. They loved his energy. They also loved that he had a lot of ideas. And I think what you have to look at here is a big part of what we've known for college athletics has been people who've worked in it kind of move on to the bigger jobs, whether it's Greg sankey or even Jim Phillips ACC commissioner having they have college big experience work that may be smaller conferences or in different jobs and they know the landscape and they move on to these big jobs. But what we've seen really in the last decade, I mean the PAC 12 George Cleo alcot was the name almost none of us in college sports knew before he got the pack 12 job. Kevin Warren, the Big Ten commissioner. He had been in the NFL, but he wasn't really in college, sports like that. And I think people look at this landscape, Paul that is very different. Than what it was in terms of the deals and half that I think conferences are needing to take going forward. And they looked at it and said, you know what, we need to do something different because I don't think you can get much more college establishment than what the big 12 had and bob bowlsby who had been there for a long time, but also then in AD we've been in natural long time and I think they clearly were really intrigued by going in a much different direction. Talking to Bruce Feldman, Bruce, so many other things to discuss and I want to get to the latest kerfuffle in the state of Florida in a minute, but what do you make out of the decision today by the ACC? Some of it expected to go, I think it's to this new model that many conferences are now looking at. I don't know how you come up with something fair and equitable, but what's your reaction to what we've seen? Yeah, I think like you said, it was expected. It's this three 5 5 structure and to me when I looked at it with the ACC out of that analysis and it's starting and the 2023 season. So there's no divisions, which honestly the SEC is much easier to manage than coastal and Atlantic were. I don't think anybody, unless you had a team that was in it, were that sure of who was in what? And I think what stands out to me when you look at who the three partners of each school is going to be, it's hard to really go, oh, this program really took the brunt of it in this program is getting off light just because the exception are really Clemson. Wake forest is really good now and Florida states not very good now where ten years ago that wasn't the case and so I think people just, it's harder to make heads or tails whereas in the SEC, the teams that are usually been the heavyweights usually stay the heavyweights and same thing with the Big Ten, but in the ACC, like I said, with the exception of what has been over the last decade, it's been so much of like parody or mediocrity however you want to look at it. I don't think it's something that people are going to get too outraged about, by the way, they see it beyond, hey, a lot of people like the idea of getting rid of divisions because when it comes to the conference title game, that game can feel kind of like a dud if you have a really good team against the team that's like 84 in there and a fringe top 25 team. Bruce Talbot with his Bruce is we inch closer to the one year anniversary of NIL story developed over the last couple of days in Florida over a player involving Miami and the university of Florida Billy Napier and Mario Cristobal two coaches you know well and have reported on and written about, can you can you take us through this story and what it all means because it's confusing to those of us from a distance? It is. And I don't think I can take it. It's going to take a long time to sort out as complicated as it is. I mean, the player in question is a top 50 recruit named Jaden Rashad, who's a quarterback from Northern California. And it wasn't just eventually broke down into a Miami Florida recruiting battle, but this was a guy who LSU was hot after Texas a and M at one point was Oregon was old miss was. And what I think stands out here under the backdrop of, as you said, we're about a year into NIL and what has happened is some agents have definitely emerged. You've seen a lot of opportunity and it's not just NIL for the players already in college, but we've seen examples and heard of a lot of examples of recruits seeing agents and seeing opportunities and some of these deals that collectives from colleges are putting together. So Jaden Rashad has an agent who is based on a different part of California who also had been involved in a different deal for another quarterback who is, you know, a lot of people think it's even more highly regarded who got millions of dollars allegedly or is in line to get millions of dollars for his deal. And so where this bidding were created, I think it's hard to separate a lot of facts from hearsay at this point to be totally honest and we at the athletic have done a lot of reporting in this and will continue to. But it came down to came down to Miami and Florida and Jane Rashad on Sunday announces commitment. There's been a reported dollar figure of how much he is in line to get, we haven't been able to confirm that that's actually accurate. It's even more that it's the reported figure from three sports is even more than what the other quarterback was even highly or rated. Got another casino client. So this is the landscape we have right now. And it's really fascinating because like I said, there's a lot of people who are involved who are not really in the front of this. A year ago, but they've emerged in the void and you got a lot of middlemen and a lot of agents and a lot of want to be agents who have gotten involved. And I think it's a really crazy landscape right now. Yeah, I know it's early. The story is only a couple of days old..
