Saturday’s NFL schedule is an unexpected delight: Three games with high stakes
"And we had some great games yesterday we had Texans defeating the Bucks wrapping up another A. F. C. south champs there for for five seasons they've done that we ended up having the rails be eliminated by Jimmy garage below Robbie gold late into that ballgame is the forty Niners looking for that number one seed but it was all about the New England Patriots once again and of course they win the AFC east for the eighty seventh consecutive year and bill Belichick was asked about you know where that ASC east hat how do you like the fit of the hat the current lower Nyssa can you imagine it sounds like or how should show press good right yep yep yep sounds good me we can get it done with all its music and I played with Brett Farr is that's that's fair is there a worst give me because who buys that I mean you know you're always looking for a last second Christmas gifts I mean does anyone actually own an A. F. C. east champs T. series in fairness you're offered up a banner that they participated in AFC championship so there are two New England is not gonna be one of those programs that is excited about a hat from an AFC east championship that I think you just said eighty seven straight yeah they're not but but you don't think of the Browns won their division that those hats would go flying off the shelves I I guess right again it's it's expectation level on where you've been and I was in baton Rouge earlier this week and I looked at it and it had give the semi final game tee shirts as you know against Oklahoma there like a get ready for the peach bowl this could be great Mike that's got to be a tough sell as far as merchandise did you want to say that you went there yeah you want to take it that you went to the game yes but it's not the end all be all for Ellis shoots to win a national championship in is to have the national championship cert against probably either I think the Clemson Tigers at Ohio state if they're able defeat defeat Oklahoma but for the patriots it's incredible that they continue to do it and I think I go back and look at Sean McVay tell sure and what happened I thought this was interesting his quote about not going to the Super Bowl would ready to attack the Aussies it is tough because you care so much about these players the work that they put in and you want to do your part to try to you know see yourself you know have see those guys have that success and get an opportunity compete for World Championship we're not gonna do that but I do trust that were made of the right stuff I know that once we get through next week I can't wait to attack the off season figure out how I can be better for this football team as we move forward and I think the scars are gonna make us better it's interesting you know the last time I heard bill Belichick talking give something similar a speech two thousand eight I don't even think you gave that speech river Brady was alpha back castle ins of coming in after Brady got injured in the first couple of games and they go eleven five that was the last time it's been over a decade since the patriots had to give a speech like that and when I see Sean McVay who was this hot you know commodity they go they lost a wild card game made it to the Super Bowl in your two and we're thinking all right he's figured out the game he's brilliant makes me appreciate tells her what bill Belichick and the patriots continue to do in this sport appeared at the end of a yeah and that's why it's been the gray of people say it's the greatest run dynasty in the history of the league because how everything is structured for this not to happen and you see that these teams that lose super bowls the hang over effect there is something there because it's so hard to get in that position and then when you just fall short of it the error just comes completely out and having to reboot now they're rebooting and when you give up draft picks like the rams have and they have a full offense of why they have to re vamp you know in a way it is not left tackle he's getting older if he's gonna come back and play there's a lot of different things that they're going to have to deal with in the Sean McVay the genius title and why so many of these young coaches got hired that was not the case for a majority this season they did come on and play better at the end of the year but there is a stretch in the middle of the season this team was lost so they have a lot of work to do show my face got to figure out kind of new ways to reinvent what he's doing with the personalities gonna have it in you try to re invented and we see reinventing offices work right we we see with what the ravens have done under Lamar Jackson we sell it Sean make very had done obviously with the rams and the collegiate level though I think you can win a national championship by reinventing your office I you look at the LSU Tigers and and what we seen even clubs and while work with but in the NFL it's tried and true it's not about how great your offenses ask Patrick well homes as he has a super beau yet now is arguably the most impressive player often simply we've seen in years but it's about the defense and I guess we still trust the patriots more than anyone because of that defense dowsers or anyone else no I mean right now if you ask me I trust Baltimore and what they're doing running the football and then the defense because it used to be it was all defense and still it keeps you in these games but with the roles and how things go use you have to be able to move the football and that's why the people have been more down on this patriots team because they've struggled so much all season well yesterday was the first real glimpse in the last three or four weeks that you see you know what maybe and now I think you're gonna see a little bit of that doubt start coming back

"Running back. And this is why this Ricky commiserate exactly why coach Hilton is probably going on the chopping block. This is what not an Endo people got go much. Yeah. Yes. True. Gutting Matanza may work out may shock everybody and go defeat it chances are it's not gonna probably happen. When you look at the situation, the Alabama the Alabama crimson tide and not running the area in me. Neither neither is a Clemson Tigers. They're in LS. They're not running the air rate. They're not running the airy. So if you want to be a net conversation, you probably shouldn't run the air raid, you probably to try to fix what was already broken by that trying to implement a new system in place that a lot of players aren't fund of it USC. They're not very happy with the area. They think quite frankly, people don't talk to they might win six games. They lucky spread people's hotline diamond bar J James you are on the morning show. What's up? Guys chat chime in. I know you guys aren't fans of air rate. And who believe me, I don't wanna pure array late one day. I might leash runs it in Washington state. But you gotta understand Graham Harrell's originally area does not appear passing airway is office that North Texas at thousand yard rushers. They ran the ball about forty sixty percent of time. So you know, they passed fifty percent of the time to random ball forty percent in time these wide splits to get there. You know, the running backs out in space, and you know, even they're running backs. Let's say the passing the ball. Don't trust the ball off to running back and give them the space to operate teeth for their skill fares to shine. So I understand it. There's has tation he's into via the air raid offense. But is a loose term. I mean, hey, James James from diamond bar, James. Yeah. His last state won anything. Not. Okay. Hey, stop. Let me give you another one. Halid has kale one anything when they ask Sonny dykes air raid. They win anything. Did you? Hold on. No. It's not about the talent. This is a system we talking about your system should allow you to be successful. That's why you run it did Texas Tech win anything. Let me just say. One thing have the same office in line. They used to have acne day. They can't just run the ball down. Yeah. You can't. You know, what you do you develop them? You get them in a weight room. You put them you aero. You got to do that. You do that. You put them in a way room develop hope. Hope I hope they do. I hope they do hope, you know. Maybe they're proven wrong. They go back to you. And there's a strong running ball attack. But. LSU can run how come Kentucky can rose they have better players than homes. But it's not that they have better pairs they develop them Alabama run because they develop, but they get better players and they develop them for the first time in forever key. I mean you and I've talked about this a million times for the first time in forever. You watch you play against their opponents and USC doesn't have better players for the first time did not develop them these saying gods. That uses talked about you talked about Mirage Saint Brown could win anywhere in the country wanted to Michael Pittman junior anywhere, divine Williams, anywhere Tyler could have on to Alabama in a heartbeat. If they're good enough to go to those schools in play in develop. Why aren't they good enough to develop at USC makes no sense to me coaching.

"Mr president. Great American food. The end of this. Do you prefer McDonald's or Wendy's? I like them all. That's a tough question. Features. We have three hundred hamburgers. Many many French fries. I wanna see what's your. I don't think it's to be much. This is the most excited Trump has ever been about being president. Like he is so pumped up about this. I don't know how many French fries, but I'm going to count them later for and after to see how many. Precisely stay tweeted out this morning. One of the all-time great Donald Trump tweets grabbing with the national champion. Clemson Tigers last night at the White House because of the shutdown. I served them massive amounts of fast food, I paid over one thousand hamburgers within one hour are gone. Great guys and big eaters. You think your grandmother oversight? It's more food eighty eight all the food very excited because the Clemson Tigers Russia three hundred pound offensive lineman, burgers, pretty spectacular. And I also love he's noticed. How in clip one? He said he bought three hundred hamburgers. By the time. You tweeted out this morning, the hamburgers have reproduced there now one thousand hamburgers, and they're not hamburger is hamburgers. Which only makes sense. If you're the Swedish. Hemmer. News, President Trump that is solid stuff. Somebody. There's so many great tweets about there's a great picture of President Trump posing in front of that ABRAHAM LINCOLN portrait buying this giant table burgers. There's so many great. There's so many Ben tastic takes on this on Twitter today a couple of my personal favorites. Somebody tweeted out this looks like willy Wonka at the chocolate factory, except it's the president at the White House with burgers, another one of my favorites. Somebody tweeted out today that the that basically the president of the United States standing in front of a table of burgers piled high in front of a picture of ABRAHAM LINCOLN is what the alternative front page with book like in a dystopia and future. Like if you went back to back back to the future to there's the moment, we're mardi MC fly realizes. He's actually not in the normal future. He's in the dystopia in future because there's a giant tower of Beth. But what's hilarious about all of this? Is it this is funny? And all of this is meaningless, right? It's totally meaningless like the president spent some money on burgers, and then he patted himself on the back for spending like six hundred bucks burgers. Let's be real about this. If you buy three hundred burgers from the local McDonalds, you spent about seven hundred bucks. Okay. This is not like massive quantities of generosity and the president patting himself on the back for that is very very Trump. But what's amazing is how crazy the left one? So there was this meeting that went around during the Obama presidency that the right was deeply deeply upset when Barack Obama put on a tan suit. Well, we must remember this. But Barack Obama in the middle of his presidency. He put on a suit that was very ugly. It was like an Easter Easter suit and people were mocking him for it. But mostly just kind of ridding it people on the left were genuinely upset that Donald Trump served hamburgers at the White House from fast food joints. They're very offended by this. He should've surf while gras. That's what you shouldn't paid for for the Clemson Tigers. So the Washington. Post fact checks the president of the United States on his statement about burgers. I kid you not there's a full-on fact check from the Washington Post done by Philip bump, President Trump's extravagant three thousand three hundred sandwich celebration of Clemson university. And then they fact check what the president actually said about the the chart out the table. There's a full on chart of the table showing where what big mats and chicken nuggets and sauce and filet of fish and quarter pounders and chicken sandwiches and burgers, burgers and walkers. I kid you not this is all in the Washington Post. And then they figured out the estimate of how many fries were actually on the table. They figured an estimate of two hundred large fries. And then this is the best part. They say the grand total, according to our count from spends about twenty nine hundred bucks on feeding the team a sixth of that is the price of alone though. So take that with a grain of salt half, the cost was incurred at McDonalds a load, and then they get to the actual fact check. So the president. Said that they bought a thousand burgers for Clemson. It was piled up a mile high is something that Trump said Philip bump facts track that he fact checked at two inches each a thousand burgers would not reach one mile high. No bleep Sherlock. You think? That's what we call just an overstatement. That's what we call. You basically just using normal human language in a normal human way, the president was talking about how he had bought a lot of burgers near like a mile high. But I guess they weren't exactly a mile high as it turns out that when you stack a couple of two inch burgers together. That's not a mile. Thank you Washington Post. It does demonstrate we don't have a lot of real problems in this country. Honestly, if you're focused in on the president's inaccuracy with regard to how tall are the burgers that he bought at the White House stacked up the other than the media may be missing. The main message the Washington Post also ran a long piece today on their front page without how everybody was very upset that Trump turned the White House into a white castle is by Alison chew when the Clemson football players entered. The White House's opulent dining during their visit with President Trump on Monday. They're greeted by many had likely never laid eyes on before in the center of the historic room. But what didn't get any attention that? I saw. Was it Daboh Swinney Sweeney? The coach of the Clemson Tigers. Who I think would be? Such a hoot to have a beer with have. I ever told story on air where his name comes from do, you know, where you don't know why they call them double? I can't remember who the relative was an uncle or grandfather when he was a young man would refer to him as that boy. But the way he's Ebel double. He he what where he wants. And so Daboh became his nickname in the way Bubba for brother becomes a name, and it stuck and I love that as an adult. He didn't go back to his, you know, upright traditional Christian given name. But Daboh was given the opportunity and an audience, and I thought he did a great job with it. He read quotes from Tyler Trent the Purdue student who recently passed away from cancer. If you followed any of the Purdue Boilermakers season they had an amazing season. They beat Ohio State and kept Ohio State out of out of out of contention. ESPN ESPN did a story on Tyler Trenton every so often these stories just come along that I think really capture the imagination. Of.

The president's personally paying for it. Right. The government shutdown. Does it say something about him that when he had the opportunity to to pay for a meal for this national champion team? He kind of went cheap with. Seriously, like like, he didn't order steaks from the nicest steak restaurant in Washington DC. He got McDonald's Burger King. And Wendy's is like how can we save a couple bucks on NASA? I love it. I think it's hilarious. And I bet you those players are. I bet you they're going to dig in and tear apart that fast food now if if. The lightning win the Stanley Cup. And they're invited to the White House, which is a very real possibility do cheerleaders go with them. I hope so I don't know. So if that were the case. Would you would you want something like this to be the meal or would you want like a fancy it would be a funny story meal? It would be a funny story. But no, of course, if I'm going to the White House, I expect to be treated like a Queen. Right. Well, that is that really any different from. Right. And and if let's say you went to the White House, and they were serving up this kind of food the president personally pays for a bunch of fast food for for everyone to eat. Would you eat it? Yeah. Because your pick. I I see what you eat. Sometimes it's not McDonald's hamburgers. Every now. And then if it was fast food Barat bought four me by the president of the United States. Would you do one of the salad bowls? Yeah. All right. All right. That's good. I think I think they're going to lie. I can't wait to see the video. These guys dig in. The statement is great. He blames it on the Democrats in. For the Clemson Tigers championship team fantastic. All right. I got a couple of stories that I want to get to and and I really want to paint a bigger picture here. So there's one local story and one story connected to. What's in the news nationally? These days. And and what this is all about is that we constantly hear these solutions to problems all kinds of different problems when it comes to politics, and we get on board with them or we oppose them. But either way. A lot of times. We don't realize how complicated the solutions actually are. So this one's from the Tampa Bay times. An examination of how the guardian program is being implemented across the state was done by the Tampa Bay times in university of Florida student journalists now if you're not familiar with the guardian program, we've talked a lot about it on this show. The guardian program allows certain school district employees who are not classroom. Teachers to carry concealed weapons on campus was created last year as part of the Marjory stoneman Douglas public safety act. Some small districts struggled to recruit enough so-called school guardians to keep their school safe. Levy county launched a program only to have nobody apply for weeks. Others had trouble with the guardians. They hired in Duval county school safety. Assistant get this was arrested for pawning a service weapon issued to him by the school district. So this guy's a guardian at the school. He's issued a service weapon any pawns it off for cash. In Hillsboro, we had a school security deputy resigned after exposing students to pepper spray in manatee county. A guardian was fired from his duties an elementary school in Sarasota after the brains in herald dinner at the series of controversial posts on his Facebook page. More than a third of the twenty four districts had problems in the program's. First

"And also a dad. Might have a couple more of those dad. Moments Tigers dominated over the last four years guys winning fifty five of fifty nine games for ACC titles and to Nazis. They've also spent fifty four weeks in AP top five and only five weeks outside the top tin Vilma. We use this word a lot around sports. We talk dynasties is the Clemson Tigers dynasty already. I don't know if I can say that they are I still need to see a few more years of success only because of how strong a word dynasty is the come. Some Tigers are amazing. The Clemson Tigers are clearly one of the two best programs in college football and have been over the last half decade. But when you say dynasty, you think of early nineties Cowboys you'd think of modern day patriots. When you're talking about seven Super Bowls in the last seven Super Bowl appearances in the last twelve or so years, Clemson is amazing. Give me one or two more -periences over the next three to four years, then I can call them a dynasty right now. They're just amazing. Yeah. I agree with you the thing that Clinton is missing right now is having won back to back national titles. Have they done that had they won three titles in four years four titles and five years three titles and five years something of that nature with the back to back, then I would say they're a dynasty. But right now, they're just damn good. That's what they are. Just a damn good. I think it's fair to say that they are only one percenters of college football in Davos looks like he's having a lot of fun doing it. All right coming up. Also, we have our big bold predictions. And I cannot believe what you said Vilma. You're gonna turn some heads with yours. How about a little women's hoops Louisville Notre Dame you like that one to match up tonight seven PM eastern here on ESPN and streaming live on the ESPN app. And then sportscenter no other place to.

I have picked against him. And obviously two times of the national championship game. I was dreadfully wrong, particularly with this one. I'm talking about the great one himself the head coach for the Clemson Tigers. The reigning defending national champion. Clemson tigers. Davos Sweeney is on the line with me right now. Coach, how are you, sir? Congratulations. Oh, good. Happy new year. Happy new year to you. I gotta admit. But it's rare the this happy to be wrong. But I gotta tell you you guys were sensational out. So you're imitating me before the game. When I pick Alabama five four three two one. But. That running on loop for like weeks around here. You're the one that created the ROY bus. You didn't even know it. I didn't know I didn't know I just taught to me coach. How did I mean when you put into perspective what happened just this Monday night? How did it go down like that? And I said we're going to have the opportunity to prove that let's just keep our head down keep grinding keep going to work. And you know, we want thirteen to fifteen games twenty points or more. And and we had just that we were the first undefeated playoff matchup with Notre Dame. And and then the first undefeated national championship match-up. And and you know, when when you beat Alabama forty four to sixteen there's really no it's so funny to hear all the people trying to make excuses and explanations, and instead of just you know, what we were the best team simple as we were the best team. I thought we were the most talented team and that game this year. And that's all that matters. And these guys proved it it was kind of a drop the mic moment for those guys. So happy for our seniors. And we it was a dominant performance. I thought we were better in the trenches with they had zero sacks. We pressured their quarterback. We we were able to get something going in the run game just enough. And then we felt like we had great matchups. Skill on skill. And we had explosive plays or quarterback played great. He played great all year. I'm not sure why everybody was so worried about him all of a sudden turned into something that he wasn't. But from matchup standpoint, we felt like it was a great match up for us, and you know, all year long. Everybody was this is the best Alabama team they've ever had. And so, you know, we were just the better team and played better made great plays one in the trenches. They had turn overs. We didn't we had Saks. They didn't we made plays. They had not very many. We were good in the red zone. They weren't. And that's really what it comes down to and games like that. But I mean, they're a great team. But we were the best team this year. And you know, you say Kansas told Nick afterwards, I said, I'll see you next year because they're not going away. That'd be that'd be. Right back next year for sure and and they've been unbelievable champion, but this particular team that we had here slump just so special from day one coach Dabo Swinney educate me on this. You know, as you said everybody all year long was talking about Alabama put tick Uley when it came to its quarterback tour type of Ola and everybody was talking about two or as if he were invincible what is one thing for two to ask what coach says to the players to get them ready cetera..

"They're still twenty six fourteen fourth quarter touchdown passes. Britain's back to win that game. Springboard Wendy to consistent improvement throughout the rest of the year to the point where he was planning the pocket he was willing to four fifth options. He was seeing the field. Very well. He's got the size is got armies mobile enough. He's got tremendous leadership. Great confidence football IQ, but it all came together as a season went along for kid who's going to end his career, which is fourteen starts. He could be very much in line. Wendy to be the number one pick overall. What's the New York giant? They could maybe trade up from six to one and get Wayne Haskins. Wow. All right. I'm happy to say we're gonna talk about last night's game. How about my Clemson Tigers to did not not bad? Fighting Irish might be vindicated a little bit Ross by twenty seven and they were nine to three going near the hat work got out of hand. But I know where you're gonna win Trevor Lawrence would I go he looks like Andrew lock, and we talked about interlock the young kid at Stanford. He's he's destined to be the number one pick in the draft. Lock it in you gonna lock Trevor Lawrence, and you can lock him in. If he was available. This year is the number one pick. He just last five games of the year eleven touchdowns. No picks mistake free for truth. Brackman then you go into the money game against Notre Dame and Alabama six downs. No pixies to sixty six percent of his passes. Calm cool. Collected comes out of high school the number one player plays like it. Tell you what you gotta wait a couple more years than I think college football fans, Wendy Clemson Tigers fans or static to have him back. But he's the be barring any type of injury. He's going to be the number one BIC when he's available to come out now. Thank you. And you're absolutely right. I'm happy. He's not going anywhere anytime soon. Well, we'll we'll take him for a few more years now. Thank you one. Here's the top of the draft order for twenty nineteen. The cardinals have the number one overall pick. That's a spot. They've never drafted from since the common draft era again in nineteen sixty seven. There were the Chicago cardinals. Crazy. They would have number one over on that was back way out fifties or something like that. You were. Yeah, we won't even talk about that. Listen, the giant says you heard Mel say they're at six there's some talk about the giants maybe moving up Haskins. But let's look at this who needs a quarterback, and what your early very early thoughts are. But it'll come before we know it. So I'm gonna piggyback on what Mel said with the New York Giants pick six you need to find a way to acquire quarterback one through the draft or free agency in some way, shape or form, but is not happening. Pick six Wendy sits over the past eighteen drafts. There have been seventeen instances in which a quarterback at least one of them has gone in the top three. The reality is if you're capable quarterback prospect, you're going to be taken by pick three if not sooner the only exception to those eighteen drastically year in which EJ manual was the sixteenth overall pick in the draft and really he was moved up because of supply and demand. The bills needed a quarterback? He had a great senior bowl buddy nix their Jim at the time made him the sort of the cherry on the top of the Sunday in terms of his tenure of drafting. For the bills but Haskins going early, and I think the giants have to make a move up to get him. But what's interesting when you look at these teams..

"When Alabama missed extra point I was thinking, I Alabama really hope that it doesn't get into a situation where they need a kick. It was going to say I said that to my dad I was like this game. If this this game's gonna go down to that extra points cost him the game just watch. Even when the Bama kicker Joseph blue of us when he made the short field twenty five yards. Even I thought like while he almost missed a twenty five yard ship shot. I was thinking like is there wind in Santa Clara. But I don't think there was that much land where that would be a factor. Well, it slice that much. Let's say let's this twenty five yards or would have to be an act of God for the wind to make a difference. You know? But it didn't even come close to a kick because Clemson just railed off touchdown after touchdown. It seems like in this game. They went down fourteen to sixteen after that twenty five yard chip shop, Alabama. But then after that, Jeff, I mean, they just scored five times street and. Yeah. They never scored again. It was a touchdown. Touchdown field goal. Touchdown touchdown in a total domination from Davos Winnie in the Clemson Tigers as they win another championship. And you know what? After the game Daboh said that this is one of the best football teams ever. And I think I have to agree. Yeah. It was it was as soon as okay third quarter. As soon as I saw that fake fuel goal. I news over I didn't watch the in watch the fourth quarter. What was that? When you're lead blocker is the kicker, and he'd even get either ten yards to like it wasn't like it was like a two yard way. Could they ran the ball the middle? Usually do that feeling that yarder to right. Yeah. And I'm sorry that faith. He'll just showed. They gave up. There was just that was the Lisi fake fuel. I believe I've ever seen. I wonder if there's just a lack of communication on that. Because it didn't see my that was actually -cation it felt like this was all planned out. There was a horrible plan. I feel like the plan was to run a fake. But I don't know if that was the fake that Nick Sabin was looking for if that makes sense because you literally ran the ball. The middle when you need it. I think it was I wanna say at least seven or eight yards, right? Yeah. Something like that. It wasn't close. I mean, the guy got two yards, and he was still will short of the first down. Let's say you need to bring out the measuring. The measuring he didn't get maybe to the line of scrimmage, but that was about it. It was it was embarrassing. Like this was the national championship game, and Alabama's are the best team in the country. And they showed it at the first quarter. And then second third fourth. It wasn't meant to be. I was reading that. There's a possible forty first round picks up late in the game last night. Blow over the next three or four. Okay. I was like that's impossible. But okay. Well, they say this year alone between Clemson and Alabama. There's going to be pro this year alone coming up in the NFL draft. It'll be probably what seven or eight for Trump's something of nature, and then maybe seven or eight the next year seven or eight the net. Yeah. I don't know. But man, we gotta talk about I think the defensive lines in this game. Because that was a big storyline going in. We knew about both teams having stout defensive players, especially at the line of scrimmage, and Clemson, I think really showed that they were the better defensive line. In fact, the Alabama offensive line. He struggled a little bit. Keeping those big guys off of to an off of the running backs. This game. Just everyone thought all of this back and forth back and forth back and forth. And maybe could be running game was passing it. But to was a big issue for me that I pick six he had I thought he handled it very what the end he got the touchdown right afterwards. But later on the game, it just seemed to affect him more and more like it was like a slow burning. You know what I mean? It was just like it was a slow fire that turning inferno. He definitely had a game to forget..

"Do you believe in the Clemson Tigers? Do you believe that this is now a legitimate rival for the Alabama crimson tide to titles in the last three seasons? Both coming at the expense of Alabama though. This one was nothing like the one in two thousand seventeen it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. Good morning to you, Clemson Allom and Tigers football fans. It's a good morning to be you. You may not have so lapped after the national championship Levi's stadium in Santa Clara, California, sold out seventy one thousand people. So a lot more people in the stadium for college football's ultimate gain. Then for what we saw with Niners home games, though that will at some point change. There was a flurry of activity early on. Alabama had its last lead sixteen fourteen and from that point on. It was literally quite literally all Clemson. We're inside the Quicken Loans studios national mortgage lender. Quicken Loans apply simply understand fully mortgage confidently. It may not seem like it now. But the way that the Clemson Tigers started out in that first quarter with a pair of interceptions onto a Tango below and using those interceptions. Then to to score a pair of touchdowns one on a pick six or as I call it the quick six and then the other on an actual touchdown dry once they had stolen the possession away. Those fourteen points were essentially the margin at half. Margin wasn't so different from the the deficit that Alabama faced against Georgia a season ago. So I'm sure there are a lot of fans around college football expecting some type of a rally we know that that Nick Sabin is the master it making adjustments. Whether it's halftime, whether it's in game, he's got that type of a football mind. He's forgotten more than most of us will ever know. I was expecting a judgment. What I wasn't expecting was a shutout thirty unanswered points by Clemson and a shutout of Alabama in the second half. In fact, if you break it down by minutes, forty four minutes to end the game with zero points for Alabama. That is the jaw-dropping for me. It's not that the tide lost because we knew Clemson had an incredible program. Not just the seniors who returned for some unfinished business from a year ago member they lost in the national semifinals to Alabama. But also this incredible crop of underclassmen that Dabo Swinney and his staff have recruited not just Trevor Lawrence. But Justin Ross and Travis all the skill position. Not all of them. But the majority of the skill position players. They're all underclassmen. And so this is just a building blocks similar to what Alabama has done. Sabin at his staff. Bring in blue-chip talent, they expect a lot of them early in their careers. And now you've got this success with Alabama that is breeding other programs who are imitating who are raising their expectations. And while I do believe as I've said on the show already. This is a tribute to Alabama the way that Clemson has put its program on the map the way that Clemson under Daboh has figured out a way to beat Alabama. And not just once but twice. It wasn't Justice. Shawn Watson, totally new group of guys in in a lot of the offensive skill positions. Yes. There are some seniors that state as I mentioned have now won their second national championship, but lots of turnover in college football. And so it may not feel like it now. But this is a compliment to the standard that Bama has said. And there is a new sheriff Swinney in town right now Daboh and coach Sabin, the only active coaches with multiple titles. You can find me on Twitter Ayla radio getting a lot of reaction from college football fans. And I will say I'm pleasantly surprised there have been some tied fans who've actually called in or social media, very often. When a team is set home in such a fashion. We don't hear much from the fan base of the losing team. But I appreciate what Nick Sabin said. This is not the end our story does not wrap up here. It's out our final chapter this. This loss will not define us. In fact, if you know coach Sabin, you would expect that this will motivate him, even more. In the second half. When maybe the door was still open for a comeback. The tide had the ball. They're moving the ball. Not in large chunks, not talking about a sixty two yard strike to Jerry, Judy. But they have the ball five plus minutes to start the second half. And they're trying to get into the red zone. They're going forward on fourth down. You can see that Sabin is is being more aggressive trying to come up with ways to spark his offense until out of fire. So they convert one fourth down and then they face another. And despite the troubles of their kicker. They line up for a field goal. Snap. And they're going to fake it Joe is going to run it. Niles. Spelled it out and just at a twenty two yard line. Everybody.

But reselling Dingley they put a big explanation point on that national championship. So for the Clemson Tigers and the Tigers fans which to some extent through much of the regular season. "And I did a little Clemson sports program called the tiger sports report. So yes, I mean that was a really long answer to a really short question. But it did it just ignited my whole career really was ignited through Clemson football. That wasn't important Jane for the Clemson football program. I mean when the Tigers take the field later tonight. Yes, they won the ACC this year. They won the Cotton Bowl last weekend. But the idea that this school in this small southern town could actually win a national championship. Started back in the in the eighties. You are. Exactly. Right. And you remember that? Well, as I do, you know was not on anybody's radar. It was not something we talked about bought about or dream about until we finished our season against South Carolina. And we went oh, wow. Look we're undefeated and it went to number one. And guess what you guys get to go to the Orange Bowl. I mean that was really the first time it ever occurred to us. We're we're kinda spoiled a little bit. Now, you know that we understand that we've got the culture and the program, and and all of the facilities in the foundations that we're really in it, you see that Alabama one Clemson wanted twenty sixty Alabama could be our turn again, we could see another, you know, three after after tonight. So yeah, but the culture and eighty one completely different. But once you've won it once you've proven to the whole wide world that Clemson university and Lou upstate South Carolina can win a national championship can be a real contender individualism football. You're right. Joey just writes, the story for the rest of football future things Jane that just. Really makes it special though. The Clemson football program is more than about just playing the game. A coach swinging the coaches before him I'm gonna be talking with coast, Danny Ford here in just a few minutes, but just a legend over in those areas, but you know, these coaches and the Clemson program in general, they're serious about these men completing their education, they're serious about making sure that these young men are prepared for life after football because that day eventually come exactly right in professional football. Even even with as many guys as we do have heading to the NFL, if not the story for the majority of the team, very small percentage, and even those guys aren't gonna play maybe five years match. So you've gotta understand that your education is the most important thing and look at Christian Wilkins in four years. He has his undergraduate and graduate degree, you know, Devo, I think just really sets the precedent for that. He is the first in his family to graduate from college. He was able to do that. Thanks callings after you walked onto. The Alabama football team, gene stallings gave him a scholarship, then gene stallings called him back after he was going to graduate and be in business while gene selling I come back into your got a graduate degree that you can work on to grad assistant, and so he earned a graduate degree and that the emphasis that he he gives these players, and you know, what if a mama of college age person, my son is twenty years old, if my son were college football player, there is not one person in America that I would want to tuck him up under the wing of..

A lot of Miami and New Orleans Saints talk at some point JV's here. But let's focus versus college football Dabbagh seriously ten years ago, you think of the Clemson Tigers used to be viewed derisively people make jokes, Clemson ING underachieving. Now, they're a powerhouse. How how did dabble do it dabble data? I by stealing discipline, douse. The biggest thing because when I was a player in the NFL. We always talked about Clinton players being very athletic and be equally undisciplined and first thing he did was start to tighten up the locker room and tighten up the players, and that's what now transplant transcended onto Plainfield because they wouldn't make the bonehead mistakes. They will go out there and their win, and they were make the right place and perform I mean, given if if Florida's state didn't have Jaimes Winston for three those two of those years skews me you see Clemson. We'd be talking about them potentially being in national title. Hainan those years as well. And it's all started with dabbled Sweeney instilling the discipline still gain those great players continuing to perform. Hey, become very Alabama like, and that's the ability to coach from the top down. Now, you're the best team. And everybody's gonna give you their best shot every weekend. And can you win? We expected this team to be undefeated this point season, and they are, and I think more importantly in the last last week would Lawrence getting suspended. Now, a sudden you're taking away focus from playing football. And you're talking about Dexter Lawrence being suspended, your coaches have to talk about it. Your players have to talk about it and lack of focus kills football teams. And so through that distraction this team turn in their best performance of the season against third rank team in the country so impressive. What they've been able to do with the discipline. The focus go out went each and every week. And now they have one game. Larry now, fill it. Each game Clemson has gotten better. Remember, we we saw them against Texas saying them, and we said the secondary too many bus. They won't be able to handle on a big stage. They got better and better each each game two point. I think the big picture to it's about just changing the expectation that Clemson were player. There's and fans now expect them to win. And I think it goes beyond just recruiting and they've got a lot of talent. But when you win championships recruit better players, what about some of the staff moves the Dabbagh was made hiring Brent Venables from Oklahoma's defensive coordinator, they've been a staple on defense for years now Chad Morris on offense. It was a record setting offense with Taj Boyd Sammy Watkins, he leaves and you promote from within. Tony Elliott, Jeff, Scott, and really they don't skip the beat on the offensive side of the ball. And you talked about it earlier at this is a team in the past that always had talent. But would lose games that they're supposed to win a lot of programs around the country. Now, they win those games. They've won sixty six of the last sixty eight games against unranked opponents eight straight ten win seasons. Four straight ACC's in playoff appearances. It is the model of consistency. Like to Joey said a lot like what Nick Sabin has been able to build at Alabama. And that's why to me right now with urban Meyer retiring data swing? He's not one of the top two coaches in college football. Yeah. And it goes back the famous not just for. Recruiting. It's not just that enthusiasm personnel. It's trust communication players. Trying to find a one guy doesn't like playing for Sweeney. It doesn't feel like getting a lot of trouble. Either throw. Here's no drug issues. No arrests death. Yeah. I mean, it's it speaks a lot about the integrity. They have in that program. And that starts from the top down that your point about discipline..
