"It's interesting. Mark sanchez just retired hired. He would have made a ton of sense. He was still a free agent wanted to do stuff but now he's gonna go like e._s._p._n. Analyst and then after that i mean it's like i uh-huh yeah. Exactly it's osweiler. Oslo is the best option last which is terrifying. I also dislike rich man's excluding thorson in some ways well. I know i think that also actually throw the football downfield leah. That's a rich man's clayton thorson right. Hey exactly right that one. The unique skill endorsing doesn't bring so listen. It's so yeah cody kessler clayton thorson. It's not exciting stuff. It's worrisome. Let me ask you about this. I know that dallas goddard is now week to week with a knee i believe they said that it was obviously a calf now. He was obviously dominant in the titans at very from cam. Everybody's everybody's very excited about that tied-in three. There's a few different names here. We've already brought up josh perkins. There's will times floating around on the team as well. I believe it's alex lss last fellow. Yes where i was gonna now expect to see these guys in huge rolls. The eagles very likely to carry three if not four tight ends as they did coming in to last season. What should we be expecting out of the tight end depth chart <unk> position. We should be looking over these final preseason games now that god sidelined yes e._s._o. Gathered it's going to be out for the rest of the preseason. That sounds like week to week <hes> same thing with lane johnson but the older pretty like adamant that that's not a concern. It's just like they're gonna miss the rest of the preseason. They'll be fine for week. One so <hes> we can kind of just take them at their word for that hopefully with missing time though already have richard rodgers day to day with a foot injury three he hasn't practiced in about a week or so. I think we're turnaround resistant. I know 'cause you didn't mention him. I didn't even know he was around. I i think rogers is going to make the team as the third guy like i think they like him there. They feel like you can contribute on special teams in for as much as he's been injury prone like in the last last year and then the season. I never missed a game. I think in his entire career before that so you know he has this track record of durability before last year so i think the team the interesting thing not in terms of mattering at all so much hopefully for the season but in terms of making your fifty three man roster if you're going to do that is the josh perkins thing is not insignificant significant to me like when you see that he's taking first team reps today in twelve personnel with gutter in rogers out but still in also perkins takes. It's like a lotta. The i team's special teams reps pretty much on any kind of special teams unit they do and like the other guys he's lining up with are all guys. You're like those guys are making the team so that kind of makes. Let me think there that they could keep for in if i'm not mistaken which i might be. I'm looking at the practice squad eligibility thing. I don't think any of those guys eagles roster are actually practice crying. What eligiblity aka a aramaic or some other deadline. Which doesn't it's impossible to understand who cares. It doesn't totally not important. I just think that it's it's possible they just keep perkins around especially and it's a silly thing to say the nickname thing but it's like it's not nothing like doug was asked about the tight end position and when he says perk instead of perkins like okay they've nickname for him only reason you'd have nicknamed for guys if you're saying his name a lot exactly so i. I don't think he's not like he's calling on alex l. s. l. e. nickname humidity. That's just kinda the the rundown there at a again. It's it's funny..

"I've been surmising this in my head, do you? Yes. Or now have a spreadsheet that tracks the histories of numbers that these players have worn different places. No. I don't have that. There's one available. There's a it's on pro football reference, actually. But okay, it's amazing. How much jersey number trivia, you know, to me you have to have some power. There's no way this is all mental. It is all in mask short Mary. Peres at number two Clayton Thorson a number eight the battle quarterback three early. Lean is is Louie Perez. All right, number two, number eight unquestionably. So I'm excited about that other than I've no take solid for him not much else there. Number three moving onto number three. Not a quarterback not a specialist wide receiver in its Charles Johnson. The former af while really the af all-time leading former Vikings slash Panthers. Last jets slush wherever he was on. Even know if he was the jets he was a bunch of different places the Browns to at of grain valley state number three for wide receiver. I don't know. I'm not I'm not feeling that. Both Charles Johnson. Great war. Rena have words ward. Six Charles Johnson's three. You're not even rookies. You're you've been in the league we do again single digit numbers like three and six as unacceptable relief. Like four years should be able to at least grab eighties number be all right with it. These are these are really bad trial numbers for two players war. Johnson who both like all? Maybe they're going to be a thing. No, clearly, not 'cause you're out three and six and like the deep wide receiver tryout numbers always end being in the single digits. But like last year six was like Anthony Muhunga like the kid out of Purdue right now. It's great ward. Man, greg. That's not good. That's big problem. It's really a fall for grace. Greg words, originally rookie undrafted rookie us actually four when he first came in back in two thousand seventeen he's he took his lumps. He spent the season the two thousand seventeen season on the practice squad. Then he up up to eighty nine you decide like, and that's a really good number especially for a guy like him. But hey, I mean, he got he didn't really last on the practice squad this season that he was only there for a week or so he revitalizes his career a little bit af. And now, he's number six. It's it's not great. But I think it's fair. It's like, hey, you know, kinda starting to overthrow ridiculous in there. Obviously you've addict, Elliott jersey, Ben solid. You take that one. Yeah. Why I have to love have jersey. Like. It's a I can't really be anti Elliott. But for me kickers. I think the best number two in three Elliott's right there on the cost so may before acceptable. But to be best kicker number two or three lock that puppy and immediately, especially three that's number point to score make very clear what's going down. Very true. Do love Carson though. Ours months calling too big four that win over sixty one yard field goal. Yeah. It was really good. So big four like that moving on to Nate Sud failed at number this, then when I saw Nate Sud failed where this jersey for the first time I felt like I was watching Sam Bradford in just in terms of like body. Not in terms of watching him play this totally body style..

"Was before Tony Roma's times was probably Phil Simms Nance and they were talking about sitting down with Landry Jones. And he was saying that Antonio Brown told him, look, I see you throw the ball. It's too late. Like, you gotta get it out before the break otherwise defenders gonna break on it. I'm not gonna be able to make cat two of his plays against minutes. Minnesota. I think exemplify his ability to anticipate windows and not just to the outside words easy. But between the hash marks over the middleware. It's tougher. I mean, the first is a switch concept to the left. It's a curl route. They switched stop it. And he gets it out before the break, even is contemplated. Let alone started by the receiver. And that's again. To the outside. So it's a little easier. But another play in this game. It's a play action play they show in high. Look it rotated to a single high. He's reading the road safety book at the snap. He throws a dig route between the hash marks finds a throw at window between the underneath defenders and front of the safety on the single high. Look, that's an NFL style throw at. It's also one of those examples of quarterback being smart don't throw over linebackers fro between now I've solace on a coaching clinic a couple of months ago, if you try to throw over linebackers you're either gonna throw to the safety or you're not gonna get enough on your end up throwing it right to back. But you throw between them you find those throwing lines. And so that's the mental process the -ticipant, he checks those boxes. So now, it's just a matter of like we were talking about if you trust your people in house, if you trust your valuation trust with you here in from at it is just a matter of look he wasn't healthy. But we can get them there. You might have some the eagles have a lot of faith in their coaching staff to coach up quarterback. There's a big time support system in there. They've done well with resurrecting the career of Nick foles developing Carson Wentz. And also Nate Sud fed has well they picked up the practice quantum? We come back. You're on the QB SCO show episode twenty four we're going to be talking a little more about Thorson. Maybe maybe about who. He reminds me of. And then who knows maybe some game thrown stock. That's right after this here bleeding green nation. Hi, this is Jim. Gica podcast.

"So sorry, Bryce, but we're going to call you on that one because I think your hate non so look. So obviously you're watching quarterbacks this summer for next year's NFL draft. Now coming into this year. I know you had watched some Clayton Thorson, maybe just a little bit. And I'm wondering how you felt about his game fifth round selection for the Philadelphia Eagles to come in and be QB three possibly the solution at the backup position. If Nate Sud filled word to walk and get paid in free agency will see how that all plays out. I'm not. Confident in that at all. But look, how'd you feel about Thorson's game coming into this year because I'm gonna read a quote from a piece that you wrote back in two thousand seventeen let's take you back in time for a second, quote, Thorson shows clean and Chris mechanics. Gonna talk about that with a quick release and solid throwing motion. He is an athletic quarterback with the ability to move on the pocket and can click and climb the pocket. When pressure comes on the edge. He shows. Good velocity. And placement particularly on short and intermediate area. Throws Thorson his Goodwin pressured and rarely gets blustered and accuracy and velocity can be maintained when he is on move or forced to throw off platform on quote. Was there a point in time where you thought Thorson could be a day to guy because what we heard from Jim Nagy, the director of the senior bowl was that they pulled ten teams coming into the two thousand eighteen season. And he said all of them graded Thorson out as a potential second or third rounder. Mark your thoughts. There was certainly a Tom looked at him as a guy that would. Solid. Final season would be in that sort of day to mix. And you know, we're we're talking about, you know, the summer scouting process were lewd into starting on new year doing stuff both at the pro. And college level I'm doing what I'm doing. You know, the process that I undergo started. Now this time of year each year is going back and watching games on the potential next class. And in many cases, these guys don't come out. I will watch everybody that is eligible that. I think is addressable guy. Like last year. I watched last summer I watched forty players that gave me going into this year already four games watched of Clayton. Thorson? I had watched Iowa Illinois from two thousand sixteen at than so the prior to what you quoted from there before the two thousand seventeen season I had those two games in then last summer, I watch Nevada to seventeen bowling green twenty seventeen I have an ongoing process of Volve notes on him. And you know, you quote from was my initial impressions of him, which is again, Chris mechanics. Looks the part good Villon. City particularly in the short intermediate field. Good placement on those while doesn't often get flushed versus fresher shows the ability clicking club. And then when I watched some of the two thousand seventeen games, I add to that good place. Bead good comfort level in the pocket. Okay. Footwork in and around the pocket. You can see examples of heme learning in game. I love to see that. We mentioned coal MacDonald. I'm doing a piece on him right now of him learning game as well. But I love to see sort of win quarterbacks make him a state or miss something. And then rectified immediately in game. Like, it's Bain. Would you see the missed like a corner blitz or missing open read? And then the next week. They see something similar they adjusted make up for. But it's they they learn on the fly. And that shows you coach -bility at show, you processing speed. And so you saw some of that coming in to last year. Now the problem with last year is he had the knee injury. He suffered in a bowl game. And I think that hamstrung have a bit for lack of a better phrase because that movement skills the ability to click..

"I always flash to this is again, my patriots bias here. But I flashed how Bill Belichick views is always said when it comes to pass rush and it comes to coverage. They both kinda matter get really have one without the other. Now, maybe the argument is you don't at least have Bella check has handled this over the years you. Don't overpay for like a one man pass Russian crew. Like, you could get schemed up pass rush. But it's still matter. When is when is Bella check ever overpaid for one position ever over like a long period of time like the defensive side of the ball? Yeah. You could make an argument that he has paid or overpaid at maybe two positions. All it's really become one the daily est homicide and outside linebacker. I think he would get ballot. Check get a couple of beverages. Get them in the cops. You'd probably tell you. Look we missed on that one. Oh, well rebus. Yeah. It's too fond Gilmore right Gilmour's the win. 'cause re how long was Ribas there. I mean, he was just Baird basically overpaid for like a one potentially two year deal. But it was like an overpay for one year. Like word loaded up on coverage savior got Brandon Browner, and then Gilmore, yeah. But at the same time he's not like neglect impasse rush. He's yeah. Put together scheme stuff. He's got Ma. Multiple ways to sort of take the skin off the cat as believe good for Michael kisses. Phrased it, you know, you sign Michael Bennett, you go out, and you acquire some other piece type players, you know, that you're going to need to generate schemed up pass rush. Yes. In today's NFL there's an emphasis getting the ball out quickly. But that's a scheme the offense of side of the ball. You sort of dab to try to take away. The I read via coverage, and then you have schemed pressure to get home via Pasha they work in concert that somebody ought to relations. Yeah. This idea that one part of it is doesn't matter wouldn't go that far. So that's going to be an interesting to bait throughout the summer. I guess what we're talking about lesser zoning backstop matter this year. It's pass rush. I pass coverage ethnic. We know what side of the coin. Howie Roseman lands on has he visited impasse rational. Just a little bit just a tiny bit. Have they been successful recently because I seem to remember the end of Super Bowl fifty soon how that went down because somebody near and dear hearts, I e spent the entire week. Terrified that they were going to kick guys inside right to Russia. You actually said legitimately called the end of that Super Bowl. The biggest thing that you were worried about when we talked about it beforehand was Brandon Graham kicking in. And I think you actually mentioned shepherds, Shannon. Yeah. Yeah. Ed how did that game? And you're terrified of it. And you know, at brand Graham just got paid. No, I'm Iriarte because it matters. I mean, you can't ignore it. And look even if you're splitting hairs and you're going. Okay. We'll maybe pass coverage matters just a pinch more than password. Thir- so connected in how they worked together. I don't think it really matters. Like, what are we talking about here? What of difference? Does that bloke like when you're building your roster like from a roster construction standpoint, I don't get the difference in between. This is not what we were. Isn't there sort of off shoot of that that maybe it's more that tackling matters? Because if the idea is looked teams are getting the ball out so quickly. All the ball to playmakers in space. They're thrown it with less than two seconds. Yes..

"Drafted the millionaire on Gilligan's island. Probably try to figure out what that mash up is all about from northwestern to Gilligan's island. So you and I are together yesterday. And then I'm I'm out in the eagles. I didn't watch the draft is eagles made that pick and I wanna get into the logistics of it in a second. But they drafted a quarterback. I'd never heard of in one that when you were discussing quarterback prospects for the eagles. I don't believe you ever mentioned named Clayton Thorson innocence. They did I thought like wasn't that the name of the millionaire Gilligan's island think you probably weren't alone thinking that it was pretty close. So here's the thing. I think this might be the one we're Harry got too clever for his own good because as much as you talked up eastern, stick it made a lot of sense, right? And I think the eagles certainly could have had that in mind, but how he's trained up and down in and out any moves a pick and right before. The eagles are up. The chargers take. No the ravens excuse me. The ravens chargers charge. Okay. The chargers. Take eastern stick. Right. And what a charges took a lot of guys that we are interested. I took Adderley to as well. I thought the chargers had a very good draft. Okay. So the chargers take eastern stick. The eagles are up next and take Thurston Howell. The third at northwestern. I don't know anything about this kid. Maybe he's good. I know I tweeted like, hey, he'd beat Michigan state twice. So you must be something to it. You see the quarterback we want. You know, I don't know. The eastern stick thing was really my creation. I don't know how the eagles feel about him. I was just trying to read their minds a little bit fan base here. It's so funny when it happened. I got all these tweets and taxing can't believe that he was blue that one. And you're right. They moved out of even had him on the board. They may not have I kind of think it to me it made an awful lot of sense. I mean, the one thing I knew was that with one of the picture yesterday. The eagles are going to take a quarterback that I knew. So then you start trying to connect the dots and figure out, okay? Out of what's available of the guys that are left, which one seems like a fit year, and I just thought all along look eastern stick. And Carson Wentz are very good friends or they're on the team together North Dakota state when when Scott hurt his final year there. Stick came in and played really well kept the team afloat whence came back and won the championship game. Then wins graduates. Stick takes over. And he wants breaking all of winces. Records, but they have a relationship they clearly have a comfort level and the eagles have talked so much about the quote unquote culture of the quarterback room, and what a healthy atmosphere. They had in there. The last few years when it was foles when it was wince when it was filled that I'm sure they wanna maintain that. And so much of everything that happened in this draft even was all about supporting Carson Wentz that bring in his buddy from North Dakota state, who by the way is also not a bad quarterback to made a lot of sense. Now, it made a lot of sense to me. I don't know if the eagles shared that feeling. But I thought it was just kind of ironic that they had a shot they traded back. And right one pick before they picked eastern stick comes off the board. But you know, I think they they the kid that they got Clayton Thorson is is pretty good. I don't know how much folks have seen of northwestern. But you know, he is the. I could get into a lot of particulars on him. I don't know that I need to. Here's here's the one thing. I would say from northwestern you've seen a couple of northwestern quarterbacks come out and go to the NFL one of them came to Philadelphia, obviously. And that was my kaffa. Trevor simian came out of northwestern. And he went to the NFL Trevor simian actually started a year at one some game, by the way, he was a fifth round pick. Right. And he's the example Trevor siemian and tyrod Taylor are the last two fifth round pick quarterbacks. I can think of that amounted to anything. Right. Right. Great. But certainly both worth a fifth round. Yeah. But what I will tell you is on the scale of northwestern quarterbacks. And I'm not gonna go back to grand on a scale northwestern quarterbacks. Our audience may have seen play. You probably got Jesse calf play a little bit in Philadelphia. You've probably got a chance to see Simeon play because he did start for season. I will tell you that Thorson is better than both of those guys. Okay. And we've seen both of those guys play in the NFL and we've seen Simeon win games in the NFL. But I'll tell you that I think Thorson is better than both of those guys. He's six four two hundred twenty pounds. He's the one. One. There's no getting past negative. He's had some injuries. I mean, he had a tornado C L, then he came back from before played his senior year, seemingly no ill-effects had shoulder surgery during junior year came back and he's played through that. So he's had some injury issues. He's more of a of an accurate short to medium range passer. He is his deep ball kind of has a little bit flutter to it. I don't think throwing the deep ball is necessarily as strength. But the one thing you can say about them. And this is true in support of us. Does man he wins games. I mean to take at northwestern has no power house, and they play in the big ten and go there and to take your team to bowl games three straight years. If you're a quarterback in northwestern that's pretty good and his last three seasons. There is nineteen eight as the starting quarterback. And he didn't always have the best team when he went out there every week. I mean, he beat a lot of teams that were better than his team. The one problem about him is. His turnover ratio is a little disturbingly high. I mean, he threw forty five picks Fifty-three starts. So he's going to have to be a little bit more judicious into way throws. The ball comes his guy that likes to squeeze the ball into tight windows, which sometimes led the problems in college. That's only going to be more. So in the NFL he's going to have to be really smart about where he puts the ball. But he's he's a competitive kid. He's a winner. He's pretty mobile ran for twenty touchdowns in college. And there's a lot there too like, and it was a team captain. And he's got all those kind of intangibles that make him seem like a good fit here. So while I was thinking eastern stick. And who knows the eagles made been thinking eastern stick. If they were going to come away with a third quarterback. I think they got a they got a pretty good one here in Clayton. Thorson pay. Did you hear good to hear? Let's talk to David in north Philly. David you're on ninety four w with rain, Glenn, Dave. I got in. I got a TV thing for you. Really into Koerbel and everybody they talked about the defense Alon defense lawn line. And then I heard from him after the draft where he stated that. They're all was to score a lot of points make the teams one dimensional, and then, you know, the fastball defense, and if you look at what they did, you know, the first three picks all offensive. I was I was I actually thought that they were going to get the defensive and defensive tackle just by what they were saying. So to see them go often simply think maybe maybe that was a smokescreen to begin with. Well, it's an interesting thing. Whether it was smoke or not how he discuss it after the draft yesterday and said, you know, we went where board took us, which is what they always say. It's it's it's usually a smokescreen. It is an I'm glad you brought this update. And right. You've been through these things so many times, right? Team's going to have a draft. They have the pre-draft news conference GM the coach out there. You ask them what they think kind of tell you in invade grease. But you get a hint and anybody writes looks like they're going to do this. And then they don't, and it's it's I don't it is an example of media being played. But it's kind of a game that we've been doing forever, of course. And you know, I don't think it was really a smokescreen in the sense that everybody was talking about the defensive line. You know, how he was asked a million questions about the defensive line and front seven before the draft. Because that really is where the best players were now by him say, and whether a lot of really good players on a defensive line necessary didn't necessarily mean he was. Committing to say, and that's where we're going to pick. He was just acknowledging what was obvious is that there. Yeah. Really a lot of good players there. But he also said, you know, look, we we have a team that we we believe in the idea of building our team at the line of scrimmage, and that's defensive linemen and offense lineman. So that was what I felt going in that yet defensive line is a real possibility. But if they got a chance to get a really good offensive lineman. They were certainly open to that to what I didn't really expect was if they would just go totally away from that formula and take let's say a wide receiver number one or take a running back number one, which some people wanted to do or take a safety number one that that's really not in the way, they think they think about building the lines ofensive line defensive line. And listen to weigh it worked out that they were in a position where they could trade up and get a player as good as Dillard, I think they played it. Just right. I mean, I I like the Jaffa me they need they need deficiencies positions. And because of the age of the players, and you know, there really wasn't a place that they go along with. So I mean, two years from now three years from nail think this will be a pretty solid one. But I just look I expected to be more in terms of the defensive line just based off of the rotation philosophy. The age of the defensive line players accepts in the Fletcher Cox. That that's where they were going to be more aggressive with when they can get anybody until they three threw me off in them. When this comments, you know, what their strategy was to like he's specifically say they want to score a lot of points. Look at all the weaponry that they've given once expect team to score a lot of points. I think that to me the overriding theme of this. If there was a theme of it from the eagles standpoint was we're getting Carson Wentz more guys to play with. We're gonna we're gonna improve his protection we're getting them another big receiver. We're getting them running back. They're building this whole thing around the quarterback. I mean, there's no question about that. That defense will do what the defense is going to do. But you can see the focus of this team right now is they're doing everything they can everything they can to give Carson Wentz. The tools that he needs to win football games. Eight seven to nine ninety four ninety four right..

"So Sean Wade intercepts Clayton Thorson in the end zone. Buckeyes get it out of the twenty yard line. Look like wait at pretty good coverage there on Glendale or just check back into the game. Now, the fuck is go left to right leading fourteen seven would nearly the entire second quarter, still go and Davis. We're all talking off the air here during the commercial break Nagel with that ankle. I think miss that. Jumble. Mistimed a little bit doesn't have the spring in that ankle to get up. There uses vertical didn't happen right there. Unfortunately, Greg Newsom in the defensive backfield for the Wildcats Haskins roles to the riding completes the pass to Alavi out near the thirty yard line close to a first down. He's got it. Got just add up eleven yard pickup all the past two Olah bay who last week scored two touchdowns against Michigan. The I two of his career it also blocked a punt at led to an Ohio State touchdown. I out buckeyes to their own thirty one play fake Haskins. Scrambling left big chased by Miller. Now, he's going to be sandwiched dropped. Just beyond the numbers at the thirty four yard lockup three yards on the play som- Duke Miller and Nate hall able to chase down Wayne Haskins junior. Miller did a nice shot coming all the way from his left defensive end spot chasing him back from behind. And of course, Nate hall was air to meet up, but it was a team tackle between those two guys. Good hustle by Miller. Dobbins the runningback Haskins the quarterback Gibbs to Dobbins running. Right. He got split around and knock down just across the thirty five by sobbed Duke Miller back to back. Good miller. How about that? Only two on the planet brings up third down and five for the buckeyes and day. He did such a good job of shedding that blocker getting rid of him coming down into the whole of the gap and make an attack that was an exceptional job cats. Stop the buckeyes on their last third down third down and five here for their own thirty six yard line fourteen seven Ohio State, they empty the backfield Dobbins motions out trips left her Dwayne Haskins. That's showing blitz with Fisher. Now, he drops back. Snap to Haskins. Short drop quick throw under the coverage caught cable. But he's got a first down across the forty five to the forty seven yard line gets eleven yards. Joe Ghazi rounds about but I out a while. Stay respect our rush. You could see them empty, and then they bring in the back. They help chip Miller on the defensive left side. They're nice job by by the buckeyes with max protection first and ten Ohio State from their own forty seven fourteen seven Ohio State and this time a quick hitter. Dobbins bursting across the fifty inside the forty five and pulled out by Gallagher at the forty two yard line along with Travis will ach Abbas close. Yeah. That's another first Allthough on. Dobbins such a straight double team between the tackle in the garden on the play side. They came down to the second level. They with wasn't for Gallagher second leading tackler the big ten coming over to make that tackle that could have been a lot bigger. Alaba and hill both out to the left MacLaurin to the right? The short side and Haskins looks to throw. Now. He fires farside intercepted on the Wildcats trae hard age and out of bounds. His momentum took him out at the sixteen yard line. I pass overthrown and hard picks. It off his second of the year. Bitter -ception of his career seventy five ten yard first down. And so the Wildcats come up with their first on the field interception. Phillies declined. I am. I glad they added that yard of it. So the Wildcats have it. They I turn over by the buckeyes tonight each team is thrown an interception. Dave where he had to throw the ball into a into an area they were playing zone last week against Michigan. Everybody's running man to man coverage. You could see that was a huge overthrow deep into the secondary. The safety comes over the top. It makes the mountain the running back scored from seventy seventy out earlier the game for the Wildcats only. Touchdown. I down for the cats Thorson scrabble. Deep down the right side and throw it out of bounds. Incomplete pirate. Mcgowan they closest defender to it. Not a pressure there easy. Roll to the right yet to defenders on top of both defensive lineman did everything he could to get rid of it. He did not need to take a sack and he couldn't take a sack that was nice giveaway. Artichokes interception pies him for fifth all-time northwestern with ten picks second down and ten for the Wildcats for their own sixteen trail, fourteen seven second quarter. As time course growing short lap Bennett. Sclerotic makes the catch fighting for that extra yard Jordan fuller. Finally, Italy Yankee down just across the twenty-five very closely with strikes hard to get to the twenty six get that. I came up a yard short. I cash in the night forty first at the year for sclerotic. So it's third out at water. Remember the cats Moore stopped in a third short earlier Houser in the backfield trips to the right third down in one north western further on twenty-five, they trail fourteen seven second quarter. Snapped Thorsen POWs earth, spins out of a tackle got the first down to the twenty nine yard line picks up three four call it at branded white and Jonathan Cooper able to take him down. See the last time they had all the big bodies the jumbo formation. This timely spread everybody outlet bowser. Make the first down of self picking a whole picking gap. Finding some light nice job there. Burst out for the Wildcats for their own twenty nine yard line. Thorson to throw it Thorson looking firing complete. Cooking away from a defender it out here thirty nine to the forty yard line. Then that's great. Radar. Is it not not spend at sclerotic and a first down for the Wildcats to the thirty nine. You're seeing rhythm. Now. You're seeing rhythm. They change twice in a couple of plays. Now, that's what they need. They'll get good protection. We need your quarterback to feel confident thinks you're starting to move here. A little bit. Bunch set to the right. I down for the Wildcats from their own thirty nights. Nap took some dourson floats at boundary too high down around the thirty yard line four sclerotic Eddie was poverty down here by the Jeffrey Okuda shaken up all the play. It'll be second out of ten for the Wildcats yet that ball had. Good good coverage is a fifty fifty ball overthrown. Good protection. Everything was good. I liked the idea of loosen up going deep going down the hash marks. See if he picks up and up. I'm sorry down the sidelines Roddick a couple of catches on this drive, and they tried to get that would chew him second down and ten for the Wildcats from their own thirty nine yard line. They sent Cambrian in motion across the formation and Thorson back to throw sets up a story dropped. Incomplete pass Berkeley Holman redshirt freshman wide receiver dropped that screen pass from Clayton. Thorson that was all setup that was an inside screen that was a middle screed. He led all the defensive line to come in all the blockers were there. It was gonna be really nice and he dropped the ball. Third important part of it. Or down and ten from the thirty nine. I really liked that call to brave receivers to right for the Wildcats and alpine I'll take a while state with nine forty one to go the half Chuck is Ohio State. Their second be a fulltime out fourteen seven Ohio State cap space third down when we come back. This is north western football..

"What he does against the pretty good temple defense on Thursday. Quite is there any other guy, you think who might be in that mid round area who who we should be keeping an eye on? Yeah. I mean, there's a bunch. I really sort of. Well, again, I'm a quarterback guy a member of the quote unquote quarterback union. And so I. Got a defend every quarterback class. And you know, yes, it might not have the star power of the top that we've seen from the past two years perhaps. But I think this is an interesting class as gets deep into sort of day three. I mean, you look at some guys Nick Stanley at Iowa he's going to get that sort of yo pro style offense under center play action stuff like that. But he just sends the vertical passing game Clayton Thorson from northwestern is coming off an injury had a really sort of slow start. But he starting to pick up steam eastern stick at North Dakota state. You know, Youngstown state coaches, Bo Pollini of those teams are each other this week. That's a championship rematch from a couple years ago, pleaded basically came out and said look this is a kid that has there's a role for him on Sundays. Now, I came into this year on eastern stick thinking he was a Logan Woodside plus Logan. Woodside was a type of quarterback that I like looted to he drafted, you know, late. So I would be I would be shocked to eastern. Stick drafted. I've. Been somewhat underwhelmed with him so far, but he's a sort of day three guy another day through guy also the CS level Taryn Christian from South Dakota state. Another have been watching for a long time athletic big arm moves around, well, probably again, just a day three guide, maybe undrafted free agent type, but he's intriguing object Brown and has a serious arm issue. He's going to have to deal with. I don't know if he passes the fresh old without arm that you need to be a function quarterback in the NFL. But he does a lot of other things. Nice. And I know he's had a lingering sort of shoulder injury that he's worked his way back from. No, there's a name to watch. People mentioned trace McSorley, I trace McSorley is a great college football quarterback is a great college football quarterback. Okay. I think that's sort of speaks for itself. I'm not sure he has a home in the National Football League. But some names to watch at the end you mentioned McKenzie Milton started dive into a little bit more. I was very curious to see what life would be like for him without Scott frost. I think there's a path to the NFL for him. I'm not so sure if it's going to be easy. But I think with some of the new office of concepts received in the National Football League. You know, there is a potential for him to play in this week. The size will be a question. He is under sized. But we're starting to see more and more teams take a shot undersized quarterbacks. A six foot quarterbacks went first over all. So, you know, I do wonder you know, 'cause he has one more year of eligibility. Right. Yes. Yeah. He I mean, he might be a guy that could benefit from doing this for one more year. You see of then coming out a? A guy that should begin some more attention. I think as many Wilkins at state, I really like him sort of handle on the pocket. You know? I really I wrote a piece over it inside the pilots where the contrast in him, Brian the worke where he was getting so much buzz for his dual threat nature as a passer running around back there. But I said, look, you know, that's what that's always going to find the NFL in the NFL you sort of climb the pocket Wilkins. That's what he does. And you know, he's coming off a couple of decent games here..

Northwestern at Ryan field getting to the late stages of the fourth quarter the Cornhuskers with the ball, and he thirty one to twenty four lead. Wildcats just kicked a field goal moments ago to get it to seven points down divine zig ball with a couple of TD runs for Nebraska who have not won a game this season Clayton. Thorson a pair of touchdown passes for the cats who at this point. I don't really have a running game. It's been reflective in how things have gone for them. Today is there down seven. Pittsburgh leads Notre Dame seven nothing in the second quarter. Bottom of the hour. Illinois will take on Purdue in Champaign. Also in the big ten today. It was Maryland beating Rutgers thirty four to seven Ohio State twenty three to fourteen over Minnesota in the fourth Iowa leads Indiana forty two to sixteen that game. "Bolic's incomplete thrown way out in front of his intended receiver green Glasgow covering so that brings up now third and ten earth western from the wolverines twenty two, and they got a hit on Clayton Thorson in that is that's going to be important because anytime he has stood back there with. More than two or three step drops. He has taken a hit. I don't think that we're gonna see that very much because the quick passing game has been so effective. Thurston shotgun. He's got moten next show. Now, he's got three receivers split to to the right? He's calling for the snap. Gets the snap. Back to throw looking throwing deep down the sideline. That's khurana. Can't make the catch. But he's going to get an interference call against David long in the end zone. And that's going to move the ball down inside the wolverines ten yard line. I'm sorry. But it looked like those two guys had velcro stuck to him because David long was all over. Pass interference defense number twenty two. The thing penalty automatic first down. Well, the idea of technique wise when you're one on one out there is to turn back and locate the ball long did that. But I think he also had his hands all over. And I think that's the reverie had to throw the fly. But the penalty moves the ball down inside the wolverine ten to the seven yard line. It gives them a first down first and goal from the seven. Michigan trailing ten nothing in northwestern wants to make it a little bit more. Moten is the running back. He's next to Thorson person's gonna keep himself. He goes over the left tackle inside the five down to the three yard line. Pay makes the stock but not before Thorson does a pretty good job of running the football. Like, we thought he might to create some kind of a running game quarterback keeper. And it gets the ball inside the fiber the three where it's second down and goal and this northwestern team right now put together a game plan of quick passing occasionally running the quarterback showing some Ron from your running back knowing that they weren't going to get much production. But they have executed it perfectly up to this point. Goal to go from the three Thorson's the quarterback. He's got moten to his left to receivers split wide. Right. Thorson gives the moten moten stores from three yards out. And he goes in standing up just like that with twelve fifty six to play in the half, its northwestern sixteen Michigan nothing. Well, Michigan's back is firmly against the wall right now. And we're gonna have to we're going to have to come out swinging here in the second quarter can't wait till have time to make adjustments. It's seventeen will be seventeen to nothing here shortly. I don't think you can wait till time. You gotta make them now. Pander into try the extra point. Hold of Collins. Guillikson to snap. It. Good snap. Good whole long enough. And through. And we're twelve fifty six left the plane the first half here in Evanston, upset alert around the country because see it on all the television screen northwestern western seventeen Michigan nothing. This is Michigan football care about your car. So you take it to the best mechanic you love your dog. So you take it.

"Now, can they make anything of it? I down from the thirteen Larkin in the backfield alongside Clayton Thorson. They bring Nagel emotion fake to give to him Thorson throwing complete to the fifteen to the twenty out of bounce James Prater cut down across the twenty four yard line. I down to a good start gain of eleven pray. They're one of the Wildcats super back senior from Memphis, Tennessee market at the twenty five. So gain twelve first down. Force and looks over that Duke defense, they rushed three. Now they show. Let's snap to Thorson looking down the scene. The pass has caught inside the fifty and saw the forty five Flint Nagel Duke territory down to the forty three yard line looked like he had a wait for the ball to arrive letter. Johnson took him down at a first down at the forty three of Duke, David, absolutely, right. That ball was underthrown is should never been caught. But as Flynn Nagel who made a fabulous catch coming back to that football. I doubt with at Duke forty-three resources big flush throwing to the side dropped drop by Nagel, you rarely see drop a pass you could see him just for a moment shift. Its is the see where the defender was. So it'll be stuck it out. And he was not in the best opportune position either it was kinda squat down tried to come back to low bit. But again, you could see his turn his head. Just a centimeter looking downfield. A thirty two yard pass on one player drop on the next second out in ten the Gilby Jeremy Larkin shakes tackle the backfield stumbles forward to the forty. Mark tripped. Up by rump at brings up third down for the Wildcats penetration from that offensive left side of the offensive line. Someone knifed in right away, really quick. And had no chance he broke that tackle at barely got back to the line of scrimmage cats are sixty seven percent on third down six out of nine third down. Eight at the forty one of Duke with eleven fifty six to go in the third quarter twenty one seven blue devils. Give will be to Larkin shifting back to the right? Looking for a block and slammed down at the thirty six yard line. He got about five but short of the first it's going to be fourth-down porn buckle at Humphries, T-ball, the tackle. At a cats are going to go for it on fourth that as they did twice. Or once rather the first half and failed an incomplete. Pass. It's going to be fourth down. This is a bit shorter fourth grade. We have an officials who is down. The official is down. And I'm not sure if he got hurt what happened? Let's go to Adam Hoge on the sideline. I don't think he got hit. I believe he just sorta went down slowly on his back. I thought he tripped on another player. I thought that was he was kind of running backwards. And I think he tripped on maybe Clayton Thorson's, leg or foot or something. I'm not really sure he's up and being attended to. I'm trying to catch that maybe we'll see a replay. On anything. Graceful fall. I can tell you that. Plus it was a nine point eight eight thank our sideline report. Brought to you by wintrust official back. Northwestern Atlantic sad Chicago's back so forth down for the Wildcats..
