"Really rob wood fork. All right. And you weren't joking. I mean, that was you. You're the top dog. Aaron Rodgers is the top dog of NFL free agency now. He just said on the pat McAfee show last hour that he already decided days ago, he's going to play for the New York Jets. Would like to move on, Dave, let me know that in so many words they let other people know that and direct words. And because I still have that fire and I want to play and I would like to blame you work. It's just a matter of getting that done at this point. He added the only holdup at this point is the Green Bay Packers digging their heels in on compensation. Now this comes 15 years after Brett Favre was traded from Green Bay to the New York Jets, and that netted the packers a conditional pick that ended up being a third rounder used to move up and select clay Matthews in the second round of the 2009 draft. Presumably, Green Bay side of the conversation sounds a lot like. Yesterday's price is not two days price. Oh yeah, similar sentiments to that of fat Joe and the NFC east today, a pair of high profile cuts. The cowboys expected to release Z Elliot after 7 seasons in Philadelphia, Darius slay already saying goodbye to Philly on social media, the commander saying goodbye to Cole holcomb, he's reportedly agreeing to a three year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. "The opposing defensive head coach. And i'm telling you. I'm not sure there's a guy that i've heard him rave about more. When preparing for his defenses then vic fangio and it was the same. Way with with mike zimmer even going back to when they played the few times in cincinnati so those defensive head coaches i think is an underrated aspect of where he could end up because he has so much respect for. Those guys wants to be part of a team. That has a great defense which let's face it. They have not had here in green bates. The the super bowl season two thousand ten. Their defense was good. But it wasn't great until the play-offs every one of those playoff games they had key defensive plays right down to the super bowl in clay matthews punches that fumble out the fourth quarter then. They salt the game away. So those places you know with those kinds of defensive-minded head coaches might be a better fit than people would think rob. What do you think would have happened on july first. If sony pictures had called aaron rodgers in david done his agent and said we want to offer aaron a three year contract to host jeopardy. I think his first response for to been. How can i do this and still play football. Because i really think deep down and he essentially has admitted this much to us in his time that since he's been back that ultimately has competitive juices and you know when he when he talked to guys like randall cobb and and jordy nelson and charles woodson those guys that either our app toward the end of their career. Like randall is or have gotten out like georgie. And charles have those are his really close close friends and he said when i talked to those guys man and just you know it got my juices going so i think he would have tried to do. Both whether jeopardy would have gone for it. I don't know if jeopardy would have said no. You have to make a decision. It's our podium or the packers podium which one is it I'm not sure it's very interesting. He's just a. I mean he's such a different guy such a fascinating guy. In my opinion one last thing. America must know. How did you become bob democracy. This goes back to a couple of many years ago if it was three. Five seven years ago at his locker were used to. Do you know his wednesday meeting with us. Before the pandemic. He mentioned something that i had written. But he said and kinda tongue-in-cheek. He reads everything he said. Something like well and bob growth. This and i was thinking about mcginn. Like did he mean pop again and i went up to him and afterwards that i said we're talking about again or me and he goes nope you bobby and i think i probably said i think i probably said man i do. I hate being called. Bob like i am my full name. Obviously is robert. But i am always been a rob. I hate being called bob at ever since it was the wrong thing for me to tell them if i would have never said that he probably would've never brought it up and instead it has become this thing in there was period. Be honest with you. There was a short time. I wasn't sure if he was doing it because he didn't like me. And at one point he came up to me and a couple years ago and said. Hey i i'll stop if you want and i'm like no it's fine but yes The fans on twitter. I think had taken it as like You know whenever they want. They'll say way to go. Bob like they think it's a negative thing. I don't take it that way. But i will say i. I wasn't sure it was talking about me or or good buddy by again. You know very well. Yeah you know. I i'm gonna end with this that i'm i'm just so curious about because i've spent so much time in green bay over the years i love. The state of wisconsin loves spotted cow. Love miller park It's just. I always feel great when i go to. Wisconsin is just It's just a cool cool spot but after that game on sunday my first reaction is how many people are just going absolutely bat crap crazy right now at the result of this game..

"Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Simple Question before I roll out. Tom Brady basically says that the NFL it's losing some of its fundamentals that the quality of play isn't the same just because the rule changes whether it's tackling or Quarterback efficiency. There's some differences here in elite since Tom Brady stuff then this was 20 years ago, 21 years ago, and I agree with them. Everything favors the offense. The defense can breathe on someone and the changes are necessary changes necessary. A lot of people don't like change who likes change, but it's necessary. Doesn't mean I have to like it. I can understand the reasonings for it. When all of this offense offense offense offense, like I want to see some resistance. I want to see some friction. I want to see some give and take. I don't need everything to be a shootout. At the same time. I am I going to complain about a 36 game? Yeah, probably. But I'd rather have more balanced and just let's air it out all the time. Sigh. It is calling from Houston Society you on CBS Sports radio. Do you agree with Tom Brady? That the rule changes have just really deteriorated and brought down the league. You know? Hey, Jr. Thanks for taking the call. Love the show. Um, I I don't agree. I I You know, I've been watching football long time. So I was a kid I used to love watching Steve. Add water and Ronnie Lott and some of those guys with the big hits, but Where football has headed now, with, like you said, the passing and airing it out. I think you know it's just really harmful to the league from their perspective, if you know we had a Patrick Mahomes get hurt. Aaron Rodgers Odell Beckham. And so I think that for a lot of casual fans, they do like seeing the scores run up. They do like seeing the scoring and touch down there. They're not as concerned about you know the defensive player, so I understand Brady's point and And I do respect him a lot for what? He's done his career, But I also think it's a little convenient for him to be saying this now that he's kind of at the end of his career, and like you said, he's benefited from a lot of these things over the years, So I think interesting comment by Brady, but for me, you know, it's just a fan of the game. I kind of like it and I Again. You can't have your homes and the O'Dell's. You can't have these guys getting hurt. So I'm gonna hang up and listen as always, Just love your show. And Yeah, Okay. Well, thank you. Say it. I mean, it's true. You're right. It is convenient. We don't hear too much about this and mostly in the regular season. People start talking about how well you know. You say something like this in the regular season, you get slapped on the rest. You're criticizing game officials well, Tom Brady didn't criticize a game official. He criticized the game. Are you gonna do? Find them over what he said. You can't He told the truth. He gave his opinion. He didn't criticize, uh, you know anyone specific? He just talked about the NFL in general. What are you gonna do? Hey, Tom Brady. I'm going to find you because you're critical of the game and it's a conduct detrimental continents detrimental to the lead. Can't Eddie's calling from Alabama Eddie you on CBS Sports radio. What do you think about Brady's comments? He's writing away. Here's what has happened. It would need that. Every defensive back goat and right back. Certainly to teach this time needs to go get the one play from the national title game last year when Matt Jones got picked And John met, you lift that BB up textbook tackle. George Ballers, no penalty. He didn't use his helmet and he lift that down. You can still like guys up in the league, and they need to teach tackling. How make you hit that guy, and it was a receiver to hit a T V. They need to take trying to make you hit that guy and and and bring some action back in there deep. Okay. Thank you, Eddie. That was the perfect Yes. Okay? Don't know where Eddie went. I mean, look. I don't know if the the NFL Needs to take the professionals and just show them tape of what took place in college and go. Hey, let's teach you I've spoken to NFL defenders. I actually had a full conversation on a football field with Devin and Jason McCord E. About tackling. And how youth are taught different, how to tackle now and where you tackle in your head placement to protect yourself and also the opponent but then also to still get the job done. And so, yes, This isn't just an NFL issue, but You have a lot of of of of of young men who come up. And they learned varying techniques on tackling. And you just go through life based on athleticism but not necessarily technique, and then you get to college and then you get to the pros, and then it's just like Whoa. I've been doing this wrong. There's a different way to do this. Par for the course at this point in time. JT is calling up from Baltimore. JT, You're on CBS Sports Radio Jr. Thanks for taking my call. Um, I'll try and make it quick. Like I told your producer some years ago, when Clay Matthews Was still with the Green Bay Packers. I think he was playing. Minnesota had a queen sack and got flagged for a rough in the pastor. Well, a week later, the Ravens game was over. So my dad and I were watching Green Bay against at the time. The Redskins I'll be darn. He got to Kirk Cousins head to the side clean tackle. Flag and a 15 yard penalty. He started going nuts, even the analysts Who were defensive guys like that's ticky tack. Well, their colleagues who were offensive guys are like no, he that was a clean hit. He shouldn't get flagged for that. I mean, 40 years ago, Dick buckets or Jack Lambert, one of them said. You might as well start putting dresses when he guys and that was 40 years ago, and it's gotten even worse now. I mean, Defensive guys are afraid to hit anybody now because they're going to get the 15 Yard County like that. Mean Clay had a right to go ballistic. It was a clean tackle, and he gets flagged. You know? Yeah. No, that's that's That's the human element of the game that that still exist When it comes down to officiating. It's it's no different than every umpire has a different strike zone. I mean, in the heat of the moment, the same way that you'll have a player go. Oh, my God, Where do I hit this guy at? It's the same way that you'll have a rough warren up. Say, Oh, well, you know, it's it's a flag. Yep, it's It's unfortunate that the game is so reactionary, but We don't. We don't want the players to react. Or if they do react and do their job. Then they could potentially be penalized for it Produces us is here. What do you think about Tom Brady's comments? Is it true? Do you think the NFL and equality is kind of falling off or what do you think It's kind of interesting? Um, before I make that comment, Can I just say that it's So weird because you comment on into because you're just like, Wow, I can't believe Tom Brady is saying this and it's kind of interesting that he's hit this point in his career where he's just like I don't I'm just going to let loose to say whatever I want to say, because Quite honestly. Once he won his sixth championship. He honestly have earned that right because Remember at the tail end of Kobe Bryant's career. He basically just didn't care about what he said He would just say whatever Brady is honestly as reached that point like I don't know. Maybe after the fifth Super Boys earned that that right to do whatever I say whatever he wants, without repercussions, but to get to your point I see why the league is making these changes because they want to protect their stars. That's what a lot of these colors have been saying is that we've got to protect the quarterbacks. The quarterbacks are the money makers there, the faces of the league and sure, every now and then there's a star defender who's the Stallworth guy on like you want to put on the marquee guys like Aaron Donald guys like T J Watt guys like I would I, You know Bobby Wagner to say the least. So I understand why people Are saying, Okay, these changes I get why they're want to make these changes. But I also understand why they're saying The league has gotten a little too soft they need It's the sense of balance. That's what's gone. It's so difficult to maintain. Now. It's they changed it so much, and they're trying to find this. Balance between being known as this hard hitting machismo League. But At the same time. We want to protect your players so that none of your stars get injured..

"Like and i know that the player and team relationship is not fair in any way shape or form and i do think that there was a wonderful sort of Moment there where he was basically just kicking open the suggestion box and reading all the negative things that people have to say about the packers and i thought that was wonderful and it makes teams uncomfortable and i think that that's a good thing especially for powerful players to be able to do at times but like i don't understand what hasn't been really provided to him and you know he's saying i want all these players you know. We need players like this. We need players like that but like they've consistently gotten players like that like those players that he listed that he was mad about not being there anymore are all too old to be playing now but spanned like two generations of talent like the front office is pretty good at what they're doing so they're going to continue to get good players. They still have good players on the team. I don't understand like where his input like you would have been there being like. We need to resign charles woodson and like well. He's forty five now and doesn't want to play anymore. Let's go column anyway. You know. I mean why would that have been the input. I don't know what the what the conversation would have been. Yeah that's what it came down to it. You can definitely. You can criticize the front offices sort of bedside manner when it comes to this stuff and i think that's been the case it was certainly came ted thompson was there and you know. Maybe it's a little bit of disappointment that they're still sort of going with that sort of tax. But you know clay matthews. I don't think they really regret moving from clay matthews claimed that he was greatness prime but wasn't very good after he left the packers. You could say that about most of the guys. They look jordy nelson You know these these guys were sort of. They got out when they were done. And that's what you're supposed to be doing as a team so now it was It was a bit of a. I don't know of a sputter in fade out for this for this story that dominated the entire off season here which we knew this was the outcome but This was kind of a a meek ending to all. But he's there and we'll talk more about aaron rodgers next week in the nfc north preview. Let's such on xavien howard real quick though because he's the one who's happening sort of a more traditional hold out here and look he is there and like you said he kind has to be there and he's going to be a professional about it but he has demanded a trade and obviously he's a guy who you know he's he's a he's easily a top ten corner probably top five corner in the league right now yeah. Ten interceptions lashed year. And as gary a and i know we worked at a story last year. About how turnovers are harder than ever for defenses to come up with so forth leaving howard to have ten interceptions in two thousand. Twenty is pretty remarkable. Yeah and i. I don't know i i do enjoy. I think that while the cpa's restrictive in its holdout language at the same time. I think aaron rodgers has kind of continued that process of you know opening the door ajar for players to feel more comfortable about this. I mean xavien howard released a statement saying you know. I don't wanna be here anymore. I wanna be traded..

"My name is Joe 14 ball, and it's great to have you with us today. Unless, of course you're from Wisconsin. And then you probably just trying to figure out What is your football season going toe look like and who is going to be lining up under center as the Aaron Rodgers Green Bay Packers drama continues to unfold For the first time since the NFL draft, the Packers coaching staff met with the media. This week, and here's what head coach Matt Leflore had to say about a starting quarterback. Have you got nothing new toe update and we still obviously feel the same way. It's you know, we want him back in the worst way. I know he knows that. You know, we'll continue to work at it each and every day. How do you prepare Jordan love? Do you start to work on him as though he's going to be the starters? I'm not gonna make any assumptions about anything at this point. We're just gonna take a day to day football. Unfortunately, there's someone controlled circumstances that can happen and You know, you might be one play away from getting your opportunity. And this Lee, you might only get one opportunity. So you better be prepared for that. Mike Wells. What are the odds? Aaron Rodgers is starting for the Green Bay Packers. Come week one in your opinion. Man, I'm going to say less than 50%. It seemed like Aaron Rodgers is at the point where there's there's no going back. I mean, the packers are basically, you know, make some, you know, they wanna beg and plead to get Aaron. To come back, But you know, he sacrificed a lot in his career, and you think about what he's been able to do with the lack of talent around and I remember I was taking you from along you from walking right? Yeah, right. Oh, yes. Well, okay, So there's this little salt in the wound with my ring right now. He's a Wisconsin got right now. Joe s so That's what I was gonna give you the opportunity to set the table so he could come in all angry. I you think about it. I mean, you know, right now it's all about the blame game, whose right is in Roger's Being a baby about this is the pounding. I'm team Aaron Rodgers on this one. I'm like, Listen, let's get a contract. Let me get the contract extension. Give me more money, do whatever it takes to come in with that said, though. If I'm the Packers, I'm like, All right, Jordan love you gotta prepare yourself. You've got to get ready. Just in case this doesn't work out. You need to be prepared to be the starting quarterback. You're that guy we took in the first round in the 2020 draft. Get yourself right. Because there's an air rah just this time. This time in like 34 months, Aaron Rodgers could be hosing Jeopardy Still. Yeah, it might be better for him because I don't know if he wants to be a part of this mess. I think here's the thing and I did grow up in Wisconsin around a lot of crazy Packers fans. It's a very spoiled franchise, and it's a very, very spoiled fan base has had 30 years of Hall of Fame quarterbacks. And now they're saying to themselves. Wait a minute. Are we gonna be like the Chicago Bears? Right? This is kind of weird. Packers fans are right now. But it's their own fault. How do you mess up a relationship with an M V p quarterback like how do you not restructure his deal? How do you not go after more wide receivers to make him happy when it's put you in a position to compete to get to the Super Bowl? Like to me. The arrogance of the package. Front office is why we're here. They decided they were gonna put their stamp on the team. So we're gonna go out and get Jordan love. Okay, You're going to get a guy who was third inefficiency in the mountain West, which is a real thing. We're gonna go out and get a guy who doesn't catch footballs from Aaron Rodgers, even though we could have Why would you do this to a guy who's playing at this level? I can't think Joe of the last time that a franchise had a reigning M v P and somehow messed it up but introducing your 2021 Green Bay pack. I think it's an excellent point. And I think the reason behind it because people always people say that all the time. How is it that you could go this many drafts without getting this guy some help? How is it? You don't spend money in free agency to help this guy? I think the answer. I'm not saying it's right. I think the answer is, if you're in the front office or coaching staff of the Green Bay Packers, you look at what Aaron Rodgers does for that offense. And you say Our offense is good As long as it has Aaron Rodgers. Let's spend our assets elsewhere. Let's worry about other things. It's the same thing in Seattle. We're always complaining about one of two things for Seattle. They either don't have a line to protect Russell Wilson. Or they don't have weapons for Russell Wilson to catch the ball, And yet they're always in the playoffs. And why would that be? Russ is so good. He elevates the play around him, so the team looks elsewhere to address other problems. Well for us is good enough to have. This is the top 10 offense. We got to improve the defense Fair in Rogers is good enough to have a seven top five offense. We need to improve the defense. The problem is that they don't make enough adjustments on that side to build the guy out because Roger's 11 Super Bowl and he did it with the best defense he ever had led by guys like Clay Matthews, So I think that's number one number two. Any married guy driving around right now knows exactly how this is going to end either divorced or you are going to spend a lot of money. Trying to show the other side of the equation. How much they mean to you? Because you ain't trading for Julio Jones. That salary cap number isn't gonna work. So right now you have done something wrong. And you have to apologize. And Aaron Rodgers done. Want to hear your words? Mike Wells. He wants to see your money. That's the on Lee way They're gonna be able to bring this thing back together. So long story short and Rogers and come back is gonna be better. The Packers Myron, Let me ask you this being a Packers. A guy from Wisconsin. Do you believe in Rogers will play another step? Where the Green Bay Packers? No, no, I think it's just too far like this is the kind of dude who still remembers everyone who told me he wouldn't be good enough. Like the personality of an Rogers. A big part of this goes to Junior college. Then he goes to Cal Pac 12 School, but not your USC. Then he's gotta wait in the green room, and he gets taken in the back of the first round. Then he's gotta wait three years before he gets his chance behind Brett. Far this has got is a guy whose entire life is built on. I'm going to show you and then he finally shows you and he feels like the Packers aren't backing him. I just don't think he's the kind of guy that can go into room. Sit down and say, Okay, let's just put this all behind us. He's not built like that. But how do you not listen to your M V p. Every single quarterback in the NFL has the same wish list in the offseason, Joe weapons That's what their entire list says. Hey, what do you all need this offseason weapons and the Packer said, Well, why don't we give you a cornerback? No. Why would give you Jordan love? This is their fault They don't deserve And right when we give you drink, I mean, look at you. You can't be happy if you're Aaron Rodgers and you look at Tom Brady. You go to a place where you've got God within Evans and Brady says I want Antonio Brown and the organization goes. Okay. You're Tom Brady. Here's Antonio Brown. Then he gets a Super Bowl. If you're Rogers, you're like, Why is it.

Okay, You're going to get a guy who was third inefficiency in the mountain West, which is the real thing. We're gonna go out and get a guy who doesn't catch footballs from Aaron Rodgers, even though we could have Why would you do this to a guy who's playing at this level? I can't think Joe of the last time that a franchise had a reigning M v P and somehow messed it up. But introducing your 2021 Green Bay pack. I think it's an excellent point. And I think the reason behind it because people always people say that all the time. How is it that you could go this many drafts without getting this guy some help? How is it? You don't spend money in free agency to help this guy? I think the answer. I'm not saying it's right. I think the answer is, if you're in the front office or coaching staff remained Packers You look at what Aaron Rodgers does for that offense, and you say Our offense is good as long as it has Aaron Rodgers. Let's spend our assets elsewhere. Let's worry about other things. It's the same thing in Seattle were always complaining about one of two things for Seattle. They either don't have a line to protect Russell Wilson. Or they don't have weapons for Russell Wilson to catch the ball, And yet they're always in the playoffs. And why would that be? Russ is so good. He elevates the play around him, so the team looks elsewhere to address other problems. Well, if Russ is good enough to have this is the top 10 offense, we got to improve the defense fair in Rogers is good enough to have a set of the top five offense. We need to improve the defense. The problem is that they don't make enough adjustments on that side. To build the guy out because Roger's 11 Super Bowl and he did it with the best defense he ever had led by guys like Clay Matthews, So I think that's number one number two. Any married guy driving around right now knows exactly how this is gonna end. Either divorced or you are going to spend a lot of money trying to show the other side of the equation. How much they mean to you? Because you ain't trading for Julio Jones. That salary cap number isn't gonna work. So right now you have done something wrong. And you have to apologize. And Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to hear your words. Mike Wells. He wants to see your money. That's the on Lee way They're gonna be able to bring this thing back together. So long story short and Rogers and come back is gonna be better. The Packers Myron, Let me ask you this being the Packers. A guy from Wisconsin. Do you believe in? Rogers will play another step for the Green Bay Packers? No, no, I think it's just too far like this is the kind of dude who still remembers everyone who told me he wouldn't be good enough. Like the personality of an Rogers. A big part of this goes to junior college. Then he goes to Cal Pac 12 School, but not your USC. Then he's gotta wait in the green room, and he gets taken in the back of the first round. Then he's gotta wait three years before he gets his chance behind. Brett, from this has got is a guy whose entire life is built on I'm going to show you and then he finally shows you And he feels like the Packers are backing him. I just don't think he's the kind of guy that can go into room, sit down and say Okay, let's just put this all behind us. He's not built like that. But how do you not? Listen to your M V p. Every single quarterback in the NFL has the same wish list in the offseason. Joe weapons That's what their entire list says. Hey, what do you all need this offseason weapons and the Packer said, Well, why don't we give you a cornerback? No. Why would give you Jordan love? This is their fault. They don't deserve it right when we give you drift. I mean, look, you can't be happy. If you're Aaron Rodgers and you look at Tom Brady. You go to a place where you've got God wouldn't Evans and Brady says I want Antonio Brown and the organization goes. Okay. You're Tom Brady. Here's Antonio Brown. Then he gets a Super Bowl. If you're Rogers, you're like, Why is it that easy for those guys? So difficult for me to eat in tonight and National League battle as tonight in tonight. Excuse me as the Padres host. The Cardinals coverage begins at eight, P.m. Eastern on ESPN Radio and the ESPN app. We tell you.

"I wanted to get cute to start picking Jets draft picks to I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Period O e. I want to show off How much football. I know. Let me go with the Jets once and then I started taking the bronze ago. What's glad I'm focused on the bronze here because this is actually becoming difficult now. Cause you got two separate fan from from output. Cause. I think there's got to be a couple criterias, and I'm just thinking of this off the top my head. One's gotta be Did they did they contribute to championships? Did they contribute to winning the How good a player they were that matters. Obviously, I think longevity matters in some case. This is difficult. All right. You're ready for this. Let's have it. I always go first. In Always called ascending order because it goes 5 to 1. You can't beat number one, but people say this is descending So whatever. Here we go number five. Damn All right. Honorable mention Bryant site, Gene Hickerson. Right site Well 13th round 72, Brian, Cyprus Great and B p m v P, But number five Clay Matthews Clay Matthew should be a Hall of Famer Clay Matthews played for 20 years, Clay Matthews played over three separate decades for crying out loud. Hey, was the anger that defense if they would have been able to beat John Elway, Clay Matthews, the Hall of Fame, and I make the same argument for London Fletcher by the way for his Hall of Fame candidacy If you're able to play that position, which is taxing That long. That means teams don't want you. Some people say compiler team's got to still want you. And he still started. So I put him in that category. I put him number five overall number. The number five. Best draft pick and Browns History number four. Ozzie Newsome. Great tight end change a tight end position. I think his history sense contributes to this breeze become one of the better figures in in NFL history, not just on the field, but in the executive office. I think that that matters to this and your legacy as well. I say Ozzy news because he went in his all of Famer as a football player, But you know, you might very well be a Hall of Famer as an executive as well. Ozzie Newsome, number four. Wrong Number three. Paul Warfield's drafted in 64, all right. Was a part of the perfect Miami Dolphins team and 72 73 traded back a fantastic wide receiver from the state of Ohio. Obviously an all time legend. Put Paul War Field number three overall number two. Some people are going to roll their eyes at me. Does. He just retired Joe Thomas. And the reason why there's the reasoning behind This reason is, is that as bad as the Browns were, for the course of a 20 year for 20 years, they could look to Joe Thomas. Fans look to Joe Thomas for 10 years Will you know when things are bad when a non offensive lineman's Jersey is the highest selling jersey? Joe Thomas is a champion in the community. People love him here in Cleveland, Joe Thomas. He's he was the guy who was as advertised. There's very, very little if at all, said about him in his predraft. There was any sort of a takeaway, and he was basically perfect from beginning to end and actually never missed the snap throughout his career, his first step Continue to be consecutive until his last snapping. That was it. He was the most worth it guy for any Browns fan out of any of the other ones Since 99 Joe Thomas, number two number one has to be Jim Brown. Arguably the best running back ever. Drafted and 57. Still can't believe Art Modell let him go away to make movies. Champion of 64. There's no other There's no other person to say. I could say all the other things. It's Jim Brown. It's number one people are gonna wonder where Bernie is on this list. Remember he supplemental and he really picked the Browns. The Browns didn't pick him. So Bernie goes on a separate category because it's the supplemental draft and I didn't want to get too cute with a piano. You go right on ahead. But all right. So here are my top five draft picks and Jets history number five. On the old line. Nick Mangold hey was a part that 2006 draft him and D'Brickashaw Ferguson Ferguson. It was remember taken fourth overall that year and then Mangold went 29th in the first round. Real quick. Yeah. Mangold's families from Ohio and the Jets were playing the Browns one time and we were getting ready and the whole mangled clan. It's like Theo Doyle's from Billy Madison, like it's just they all it's it's the same. Type of person. You get what I'm saying. Like you see, families, you go that like that's appeared. Oh, that body type the whole thing there. It's the same. They all look presentable. And there was like 40 of them all were Nick Mangold jerseys. It was really cool. They love they love each other. They love that family. And they love Nick Mangold, buddy Going good guy. He's a true workhorse. Hey, started all 171 games. That he appeared in for the Jets from 06 to 16, you know, talked about winning helped them three playoff appearances. Hey, anchored what? Six top 10 rushing offenses along the way. He did a seven time pro bowler a two time first team All pro. Get a tough job having a comment succeed of the Hall of Famer Kevin Hawaii, but he came in and obviously the tremendous job one of the best offensive linemen of his era..

Joe Thomas Jim Brown Ozzie Newsome Clay Matthews Gene Hickerson Joe Miami Dolphins Nick Mangold John Elway Theo Doyle Bernie Mangold 20 year Paul Warfield 2006 20 years 10 years 171 games 29th Brian

"Wtmj. The countdown is on. We're not less than 12 hours away from the start of this year's NFL draft. What are the Packers going to do with that? 29th overall selection in the first round? Joining us now? I mean, that lived out his draft dreams and a man you can catch from 19 noon every day on our sister station. 94 5, ESPN. He is former Green Bay Packer, Former Badger Mark Tauscher. How his first things first. Give us a read on what you think the needs are for the green and gold going into this year's draft who position we What might they be targeting tonight? Well, I surely hope it's not quarterback again. That would be the first thing that we're looking at. I think there's there's really no position that you could say other than maybe running back that you would think you don't need in the first round. But to me, I'm looking offensive line. You obviously Corey Lindsley leaves for Los Angeles David Bach, Jari, you know he blows is needed At the end of the season. We saw what happened in that Tampa game that I'm always leaning, offensive or defensive line. I think the big bodies or what separates You know the good teams from the great teams. If you're good up front, you can beat anybody. And then I think the thing that we thought Green Bay would look at last year that wide receiver position. I think those are the two spots I'm really looking at tonight when you're looking at that first round pick If they grab anybody that fits into that mold, offensive line or skill position, wide receiver. I think you'd be pretty happy as a Packer fan, so tells you he's kind of made a trend over the last couple of years of trading up and going up to get the guy that he wants. Do you see something similar panning out tonight? Or is that just the way that the first round's kind of panned out for them the last three years? I think that what you've seen with duty is that if he has somebody that he really likes, whether it was Joe, you're Alexander. You know you're gonna go get him and with a team that was 13 and three back to back seasons. You don't necessarily need 9 10 11 draft picks. You really want to get four or five guys that are going to really be able to help impact your football team. So if there is the guy that You know, isn't going to get to 29 You really want him? I wouldn't be surprised at all. The native duty is aggressive, gives up a third or fourth round pick in the this draft this year. Go get somebody. He thinks to make a huge impact. Whether it's a wide out whether it's an offensive tackle, because in all the mock draft, I've been looking at a lot of the players that really would fit a positional needs that Green Bay has They're going to probably be gone, so I would not be surprised at all the food. He made that move tonight. There's just see mark with all that action in front of you. All those people in front of you. You don't want to let events come to you, especially if you got a passel of draft picks like the Packers do in a relatively, you know, a list of very clear needs. You gotta go out there and get what you want before somebody else grabs it. Absolutely. And I think you you know, there's always the fear of giving up draft picks because you know, like Ron Wolf would say you want to have as many cracks at it as you can you want to have You know, you're only going to get a 50% hit rate on most your draft pick. So you want more, but I just I think back to what Ted Thompson did going up to get Clay Matthews. She obviously went out to U. S. C. He saw somebody that he knew he wanted on his team. And Ted was always very protective of a draft picks. But I'm guessing if you asked That was something that nobody ever regretted, because what clay was able to do from an impact standpoint, if you have somebody you really like they fit in need. Go do it. And that's what I think Judy would probably look at tonight. So tells you, given how the off season has panned out so far, and that the activity and free agency or lack thereof. How much pressure do you think is on duty tonight to really hit? Not just tonight, I guess, but with the first three rounds to get some impact players because they didn't do a whole heck of a lot outside of re signing their own guys this offseason. Yeah, I think it's really important because their tap situation you know, having to go and Spend a bunch of couple of years ago. You're starting to see that ripple effect And then with the pandemic kind of lowering the cap there is there is a lot of pressure and this is going to be this has always been the key to building a good football team is drafting. Well, they've duty has done that gyre. Alexander has been a really good player was shot Terry there So that's important, but no doubt when you lose guys and that that cap is going to continue that think affect this roster. You need to hit on your rookies when they're on a controlled contract. Tonight. Tomorrow Saturday. It is going to be critical for this team, especially in the next couple of football season's last thing for you, Tallis. How many fingers of Scotch for the quarterback tonight? Last year in the first round? You said it was a forefinger and I well your fingers into your hocking week after tonight's first round. I'm guessing it'll be a little bit last. I'm thinking maybe half probably too. But again as we saw last year, I don't think any of us we'd heard rumors. That may be the quarterback, but we were all shocked. I don't think we'll see that shock tonight. But again, that's what makes the draft fun. You never know what's gonna happen easier Friday morning for QB one tomorrow. That's good for him. Tosh take care. Thanks for helping us out. You bet. Thanks, guys. 7 56 wtmj. I would still Harry Potter line from, uh, mash when things are bad. This is a occasion for tall glasses and hard liquor. "All is fair in love and war, and you and I have had a relationship for a while. But sometimes you've taken shots that maybe my CBS sports Minutes and thought maybe that the national media like myself doesn't quite know what's going on boots on the ground, So it's all good, but I want to know what do you think we're missing from a national overview? That you're seeing locally that's misinterpreted. I'll do anything. They missed carpeting. Texans have gone down the toilet, whether watching stays or whether he goes, they're gonna be bad next season. Their running game was awful 31st their their national. Their defense was terrible. And they have their I think they'll be competing for the top pick in the draft next year. I know that will have Watson's not playing, and I think Watson is gonna dig in and sit out the off season. Preseason regular season until he gives enough games where he comes in and still get credit for the seasons because in 2022, he's going to go from 10 million to 35. Million and they swear they're not gonna trade him. I think I would not want a player a quarterback, especially to be forced to play in a situation. He absolutely doesn't want to play it. And the thing that they have yet to do. Watch is not with term messages from Nick a stereo in the new coach David Culley, at some point in his agent, David Mother got up and cause stereo Cully. Offense coordinator 10 Kelly. New quarterback coach back Hamilton should meet one on one and hear from Watts and exactly what, why you wants out and then lay out their plan. Or turning around the franchise. And if he still wants to be out on, I would trade him. I would trade in this draft because if you wait until next year, the trading deadline, you're never gonna get anywhere. Close. What he's worth because of so much time with him not playing right now. He's coming off a great season. I'd be very transparent because fans they're they're blasting the fans and media blasted Texans every day. And they don't want watching traded that I think that if you want to force the guy to play, I think you're making a big mistake. Do you think that is shown Watson's played his last game is a Texan. Wanting to said no. I think that he'll sit out and you'll have to come in for X number. I think it's four to get credit for whether he plays and I don't see Damon. I am doing what James Harden did James Harden came in late. He was out of shape. He played bad. He didn't play hard. Then he blasted a team. Then he got traded. I know. Over the weekend, he apologized about the way he left. We call it scored stars in the fans and the media turned on him. It was ugly. I don't see that happening and Watts and I just don't see him taking that approach. But you never know. I think you'll be out until the time comes where he has to report. To get credit for the season. You're a long time Pro Football Hall of Fame voter, You're in those discussions, and I thought this class was tremendous. Obviously, Peyton Manning was a slam dunk. Charles Woodson Megatron Tom Flores, two time Super Bowl winner True Pearson finally getting in, which was great as well. John Lynch was an interesting one because I had a lot of people reach out to me and say, Well, what? Why didn't Leroy Butler get in ahead of John Lynch? What was the conversations behind the scenes Because Lynch did wait quite a bit to get in. John Lance waited longer as a finalist that anybody in pro football history John been a finalist that they eight years and you played 15th season. 10 Pro Bowls. Super Bowl played really well is last Four stations in Denver and Ira Coffman, who presented him has done a great job through the years of showing that Lynch was better and coverage than people thought was statistics, and people always thought of him as being just a hard hitter. When we saw a behind the scenes, he's much more than that. I was so happy to see you finally make it. The one I was Most disappointed in Damon was Clay Matthews played 19 years primarily for the Brown's. He got his second quarter bags of 40 years old, and this was his last year of modern eligibility. Then he goes on the senior last among the senior's committee. Through and there's just so many deserving singers. Now we're putting in one senior one coach one contributor and it just gets so difficult. So glad Matthews is the one I was most disappointed in the little Red Butler. He's got a lot of people speaking up for it. We don't go in there contrary what a lot of people think and say this guy doesn't deserve it. That's not the way it works in there. Everybody speaks positively about people and then we don't know how each other boats sometimes we can tell based on what people say in two presentations. And I think, but we'll get in At some point, Lynch had to wait a long time to a lot of them at the wait a long time and longer. They wait Damon the happy and they are. Do you think that with Tom floors getting in that if you win two Super Bowls you're definitely getting in. I ask this because Mike Shanahan has two rings, George papers. I don't think that Winning two Super Bowls is all that takes one reason. This is my opinion that Tom Floors took so long as he went to Seattle, and then there was terrible when he was in Seattle. First, he was running the franchise. Many was the coach, and then we took into consideration ownership. He had their late Ken Behring, who was awful and what bearing did and did not mainly what he did not do. Helped on floors but the best possible product on the field and we mainly looked at what he did. With writers 83 in the playoffs, not just went into Super Bowls, but he did so much beyond coaching is supposed to be just about coaching. He could've been a contributor as well because as long As he was in the NFL in different capacities, primarily for the Raiders, and I was so happy to see him finally get in, and there's other coaches that will give serious consideration. I'm just glad we have Coaches category for the longest time coaches were in with players and unless you have a slam dunk, it was hard to get in. There is coach that's interesting. Theeighties Raiders undertone Florida the first ever wild card team to win a Super Bowl. John McClane joining us this morning here on the show for the Houston Chronicle, John It's always good to be able to catch up, man. Stay safe down there with the ice door. Hopefully, guys are okay. It is my pleasure coming on when you thank you very much. And you stay safe, too. Okay. Thanks so much. John McClane joining us this morning here on the show. Great stuff. When we come back here on the D a show interesting that John said he does not think to Shawn Watson has played his final game with the Texas thinks that he'll be forced to come back and play this year is well, interesting when we come back, though. That I.

Where should the problem that money go. He's doing it with an R and B singer too. I guess. See, that's what makes it more difficult. That puts me over. I'm just saying, I think it's gonna be an over with RBC. I'd say it's over two minutes with with some would matter who it is. But if it's if it's two people We've never seen that before. OK, the average I just did this calculation the average the other day I saw this for a national anthem. When you're not trying to be cute or fancy is, I think a minute What is it like a minute 30 Something that admitted 40. I mean, that's what everybody puts their spinning. Yes, everything and that's what makes it takes it a little bit longer. Aretha Franklin did it one year. Not for the Super boy. It was Thanksgiving Day in Detroit, and it was like 2.5 minutes. It was great. I mean, she's phenomenal, but it was long and it was It was long, Matt when you're Aretha Franklin. Exactly. Exactly. What? So you're gonna go under on that? Uh, Okay, I am. That just seems long. But you're right, though. The if it was just him doing it, I guess, the added Combo thing makes it difficult. Well, pick. I'm looking forward to the prop that sky this morning out of young potato seven. I think he's gonna shed some light on all that. Hey, it's a It's a big day for the Buckeyes today Is that national signing day today? Yeah, he is, But it's really, you know, a meal point about 10 years ago. This was you know, Christmas Day, but since they changed the rules five years ago when they now have an early signing day in December Hi, Steve classes. You know, Half of the class is already in school. They've They signed in December, and they graduated earlier. And they're already enrolled and starting winter conditioning s O. They may add a player, maybe or two, but probably not. And so it's It's really not. It's weird. It is just weird on the landscape of college football has changed. This used to be a big deal, and it's really kind of the leftovers. At this point. There's some don't misunderstand. There's some great players out there. But almost everybody has already signed so The you mace here, a name or two that Ohio State gets, But for the most part, they're class was put to bed in December. "The axiom sign up at an ex wealth calm, So I'm for an update from the Gruber Law offices. One call, that's all sports death. Here's Brian D. The search is underway for a new D. C. The Packers, of course, parting ways with defensive coordinator Mike Patton last Friday afternoon had coach Matt before says it's always hard to lose a good coach and a good friend. Any time you make a decision like this It's never easy. It really It weighs heavily on your heart. The floor continues just felt like it was one of those deals where needed some some new leadership on that side of the ball. And so that that's just the direction that we decided to go now. ESPN NFL Nation Packers reporter Rob Tomasky is reporting this morning. The Packers are conducting numerous interviews today and tomorrow for that vacated position, most notably with Badgers defensive coordinator Jimmy Leonard. Elsewhere in the NFL Super Bowl, 55 has its first brush with covert 19. The chief's replacing wide receiver DaMarcus Robinson and backup center Daniel Kill bore on the reserve covered 90 list due to close contacts. Apparently the chief's team Barbara tested positive for covert. Those two guys still could play in the big game on Sunday if they have five consecutive days of negative tests. In basketball drew holiday scored 22 points, Bobby Portis added 21 the Bucks blitz the Trail Blazers 1 34 to 1 of six on Monday night at Pfizer Forum. The Bucks started out hot and they never looked back. Mike Budenholzer is teams set the tone on offense in the first quarter, with 46 points on eight of 10. Shooting from three are offensive execution are on selfishness at playing with each other was really at a high level. Buck's head coach, My good and hold, sir. Through holiday led the way with 22 as a team, the buckshot 50% from three and logged a whopping 38 assists away. The ball was moving further out of the night, but including that third quarter You know, a lot of open that's guys stepping up and making on Greg Matter. WTMJ Sports The Bucks improved to 12 and eight with the victory Next up. Malcolm Brogdon in the Indiana Pacers come to town tomorrow night in college hoops both Wisconsin and Marquette in action tonight. The Golden Eagles first hosting Butler at four o'clock this afternoon and then Wisconsin hosting Penn State at 7 30. The Badgers are down to 19th and the latest AP poll after a loss to the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley this past weekend. And finally, Major League Baseball in the MLBPA are negotiating to potentially delay the start of the baseball season. ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney says the sticking point right now isn't necessarily over delaying the season. Though the fight is over the tying of the universal th two expanded playoffs from the From the unions perspective they're feeling has looked universal. Th is something everybody wants. Why should we have to give that up is a negotiating point. You need to give us something else. If you want us to get to get us to agree to expanded playoffs, Major League baseball feeling is no. The Universal D. H should be something that we can trade for expanded playoffs. So that is at the root of the current problem that is Buster joining Greenie on ESPN Radio. A delayed season would start in late April, according to the latest proposal, But nothing has been agreed upon at this time. Jean looping around to the Packers. The latest news they're going to conduct an interview with Badgers defensive coordinator Jimmy Leonard. What your thoughts on that idea? I feel like in this state in particular. We really love when our own and up in big time positions and I think that would be ah, well received move by green and Gold Nation. If they do end up going that route, he is out like petting successor. I would hate to see him leave medicine. You know what's gonna happen? He's young, He's bright. Somebody's gonna snag him, if not a bigger program in college, somebody in the pros, so if he's gonna go anywhere, let him Come to Green Bay. But Jason will. He had that that point yesterday, too, in his column over the weekend in the State Journal, But where do the Packers go with this defense? You know, do you try to clone with the Buccaneers did because it was so effective against you. Do you try to find a like thinker from that LaFleur or do you really, you know, go rogue and find somebody totally out there. You know that this week's blonde or whatever The case may be, who's ever the hot one right now, But I really like about Jimmy Leonard Philosophically is in Madison anyway. He's always had great linebackers, and that's something the Packers have, like. Act for far too long of a time. It's been mediocre, bad for as long as I can remember, you know, basically since Clay Matthews was a beast, and even the last couple of years of his tenure in Green Bay were pretty poor. So maybe that's something that they could tweak if he ends up getting the job, But they've got a laundry list of people They want to get through and I'm sure they'll do their due diligence to get this role right. It's 8 19.

"A in the NHL there in Steven, but different right? It's it's weird little bit jarring to have the NHL dropping its puck on January 13 with a 56 game season and realignment into four. Regional divisions. The N B A is really going through the thick of Protocols and and covert interruptions. And so they're having a hard time finding any flow. But the league is committed to moving forward, hoping that it gets better at some point before they hit the post season. Of course, the NFL is done with its regular season into the playoffs. Only seven football games left in the season. Now the college Championship is behind us and super sized wild card weekend is done. We've got the four divisional games, the two conference championship games and then the Super Bowl, and that is it and along with Super Bowl week, we always get the announcement of the Upcoming induct tees, those who've been selected to make the Pro Football Hall of fame. It's always a privilege to be on radio row and see the yellow jackets walking around and to know a new class is being welcomed. It was different last year, Of course, no induction ceremony in Canton, and so at some point, they hope to have a supersized ceremony at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but they will include up to five new members in the finalists were just unveiled last week, and they include Clay Matthews Jr was a long time linebacker in the NFL spent 19 seasons in the league 16 of those with the Cleveland Browns. He played 278 games. He has more than 1500 tackles 83 a half Half sacks, though some of those sacks that he had before they started to count sacks as a stat. Those air lost forever. 16 career interceptions, 27 forced two fumbles 14 fumble recoveries, and he is now a finalist for the first time. The pro Football Hall of Fame. There is another clay Matthews. There's also a Bruce Matthews, his brother who's all of Famer. His son played in the NFL. Clay Matthews the third. In fact, he's One of eight family members to compete at the NFL level and just a couple hours ago. I had chance to catch up with him, and it was really cool to be able to pick his brain and hear his stories. And, of course, the first thing I had to ask Clay is how much he enjoyed his former franchise, the Browns, winning a playoff game for the first time since he was in the league back in the nineties. You know, it was fantastic. The The thing that stood out to me is I've had a couple boys that have played in the NFL. So you know, I've been preoccupied with the Browns and Really haven't been able to follow him. Nor did when I When I stopped playing, I was 40 years old and so That the point I'm making is that's the first time I wanted to go back and play again for the room. So it was just an amazing game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's it's a long time coming at the fans have remained so steadfast. What's special about Cleveland Browns fans? I, You know, I was drafted there back in 1978. And you know that. The world seemed a lot smaller back then, and I didn't know that much about Cleveland and went back there and just Wherever I went around town, I would run into folks you know, And they would. The thing is, they're very informed and they were. You know they weren't offensive, but they had They had some good opinions. So I had some good conversations at the gas station and the 7 11 and places like that, and really Enjoy them. That's you know, as I think that those were the highlights where some of the conversations I had in the most out of the way place. You recently had the opportunity to be inducted into their ring of honor. What was that experience like to go back to Cleveland and to do it in before a game in which your son was playing against the Browns? It. That was a big day it to go back and To be honest, I think I was more comfortable when I had the pads and the helmet on that I was standing out there giving us Ah, form of the speech. But it was a big night and they treated me very well and I feel very much at home there. We're spending a few minutes with Clay Matthews Jr as people sometimes get it wrong. But you're the second Clay Matthews in your family with the first one now to be a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which was just announced over the weekend after hours on CBS Sports Radio, So your daughter tells me it was a message that was left by David Baker of the Hall of Fame. What was it like for you to hear that message on your home phone? Well, I came in and heard that and I think my I don't know my temperature just started right and You know it. Uh, I I've said this to several folks, um I was. I was one of those kids who was a big fan of the NFL. I was one of those kids who collected those little football helmets, the little plastic ones. And, you know, really, if you looked at me at the beginning of high school, say my freshman year, uh, you never could have predicted that I would be a guy who would eventually make it to the NFL. I think I weighed all of £132, you know, and I was starting to lift weights. And came home and my mom was there and now my mom weighed about £107. But she was wiry and she could she. She was the women's champion golfer at the club. She get out. Drive my dad, so she challenged me. To an arm wrestling deal, and I said, Mom, no, I might hurt you. She beat me..

"Us now obviously the rams are looming out there so the Seahawks this center COS is not sold out for the for the forty Niners I do think the rams are making some sort you know in baseball is like you get hot in October you're good in the rams I think I'm not is a mother worry about okay what they're playing really good right now so you know I I called a game last week force would want all the way up in Seattle hand yeah I think that the maintainers listen I don't know if you want to pitch count talk about Todd Gurley year auto shop but they said it wasn't but it didn't make any sense of the word on the pitch count the why you didn't running late so that makes sense but now the backstretch of the season here's a mortgage council he is running the ball better and his defense since they got general Randy and clay Matthews who's been helping outside of that Reagan game that they had because recently done that to multiple sequences in the National Football League that are that place this year it may look very average operator that they've already given up quite nicely to Gary so they're they're they're marching in the right direction I think your golf he needs a running game your golf is not the quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers that can to win with his arm you need running game as a quarterback yet as that one again goes you see what they do they run that stretch place the rebel stretch place there on the stretch quite that they're on the boot also then they run the old state speech speech they take speeds we can then they had it all and then they run the boot off of it that's what they do he's at his best when they're doing that when that is exceeding four there are the others also unit golf is playing really good football I know we had two interceptions last week but the first service was not his fault her lover would have to run through that route he he stop route often your call the store that I was one of the many stopped at the D. Kylie Jenner Claims She Only Tried Cereal With Milk for the First Time Two Days Ago

"Jenner twenty one year old. Almost billionaire that we've talked about in a number of instances before tweeted this last night. This is a true money. Can't buy you. This kind of happiness moment. She said last night I had cereal with milk for the first time and it was life changing. Now, a lot of people get mad to how do you go twenty one years without having milk and cereal. She said she'd been eating dry, and I said, you know what? We'll forget that I want to give her credit into areas I want because I lamented the NFL on this the other day when the NFL came out and double down on the clay Matthews. Hit the penalty that shouldn't have been against Kirk cousins in the Vikings and Packers game from this weekend. I said the NFL mystic golden opportunity to reinforce the kind of behavior that they want it because that clay Matthews hit looked exactly like what they want modern tackling the look like, and they miss an opportunity to go out there and Panama on the head and say, good job. This is what we want. We want more of this. You can help your cause like that. So I want to reinforce positive behavior because Kylie Jenner did two things that I think were noble in this. The first was that she chose a great serious. She went cinnamon toast crunch which for my money, the second best serial of all time. What's number one, Mike waffle crisp come on guys. Next question. But the second thing in the most important thing and I took this for granted because I thought you guys were all playing for the same team with me. And then I found out the other day that wasn't the case. She wants cereal first and then milk because she's not an idiot. Milkin before cereal should be ashamed of yourselves. So in those two camps, Kylie Jenner got a big one. And I mean, this is the first day of the rest of her life. Now her life is forever changed by this, and I just happy that we all got to live through this moment. We had Twitter, like Seth Rogan's. We didn't have Twitter when she was growing up. We didn't have Twitter early on. Now we get to experience this

It absolutely made them off and found founders way had a fifty one yard hookup earlier in that half in. You know, you really mean that that was the touchdown that made it a one score games. So you talk about him starting to shift. Again, you're looking at the clock. You're looking at the time out situation the bears had really done much offense after the first two series. So there was a significant momentum shift and just overall feel inside lambofield. So the headline in the Chicago Tribune was pack attack MAC dominates first-half.
