"Hey, hey, hey, you big players out there. It is us again, Morgan and Murph, coming back to you with episode 121. Can you believe that Murph? 121 episodes. It seems like just last week we were doing episode 120. You know, and the week before that, 119. I mean, how time flies, you know? Not sure how we're getting all these in to be quite honest with you with our travel schedules lately, but hey, we're getting them in. And we're doing some of these on Sunday, you know, at the last minute, but we're doing our best because we still have a case of the month for Patreon to record. But anyway, I digress. Thank you guys. Welcome to Game of Crimes. I'm Morgan Wright, literally here with my partner in crime, the Murpharoni, the Murph man, the Murph. Hey everybody, Steve Murphy here. How do we know? You know, after our interview, which is going to come out with Mike Fredericks, nobody remembers you in Miami. Well, these old farts. I mean, that's, but you know what? I mean, that's what it is. When you're the new guy, when you're the rookie, you know, you get to meet all these stars and these legends, and they've been in the job for quite some time. As you're going to hear about Mike, man, he's, he's got an exciting past, but, and then they move on with their careers. They're already moving up before, and as I'm just getting started, so you understand why, you know, oh yeah, I'm at that rookie. No, how did I really meet that guy? Well, you know, the good news is if they remembered your name, it's usually for the wrong reasons, not for the right reasons. You know what? That's what we say at DEA. We always remember people for the bad things they did, not the good things. Well, so no hard feelings here. Yeah. Well, speaking of the good things we did, we got some good things to do for you first, but before we can get there, let's get into some housekeeping. Apple Spotify, hit those five stars, folks. It helps us a lot. In fact, even on Spotify, you've got the ability to leave comments if you didn't know that on the episode. So let us know what you think of those, but the five stars really help us out. We really appreciate it. Also, head on over to our website, gamercrimespodcast .com. You will see the book for our latest guest that is going to be on there, and we'll talk about that during our interview. Also, our, all the other things that are there, the episode descriptions, pictures, some really neat stuff. In fact, you got to see the picture of Mike Fredericks that I used for this episode. Yes. I haven't seen it yet. It goes right in with what we're going to talk about. Hey, also follow us on that thing they call social media, Game of Crimes on Twitter, Game of Crimes podcast on Facebook and the Instagram, but where you got to be, Murph, where you got to be? You got to be on patreon .com slash gamercrimes. One of the reasons is we're getting ready to do our case of the month. We've got some interesting things. In fact, one of the cases you're going to talk about happened where my daughter lives. She lives in that county. Oh, geez. Yeah, so we're actually on the phone with her talking about that this morning, just making sure everything's okay. We've got 911, which emergency, we've got Murph's second attempt to come up with a decent movie to review for the narcometer. He gets one more shot, and then he's never allowed to touch the keyboard again for movies. We'll see how it goes. So, but guys, we got a ton of good stuff on there. Like I said, you know, our Q &A, You Can't Make This Shit Up. We got some stuff for You Can't Make This Shit Up this next time. Murph, I've been saving some stories. I've found some stuff. Anything from Florida? Oh, there's always something from Florida. Are you kidding me? Again, we like to be the leader, not the follower. Well, you are leading in this category. In fact, there's no such thing as Kansas Man or Texas Man, but there's Florida Man. Yeah, baby. That's it. That's us. So head on over to patreon .com slash gamercrimes. And also, before we get started, you got to head on over, join up with our favorite mafia queen, Sandy Salvato, the iron fist with the velvet glove, who rules all things that are called Game of Crimes fans. Just go to facebook .com, type in Game of Crimes fans, ask, answer a couple questions, and you get admitted into the inner sanctum, where all sorts of things go on that we can't disclose, because we're all under a non -disclosure agreement enforced by the queen herself. There's hundreds and hundreds of people in there. Come and join them. I mean, there's some funny stuff that goes on in there. And some some real serious stuff. I've referred several people for mental health counseling after some of the stuff they've posted. Yes, that was me who did that, folks. Was I on that list? Murphy, you're constantly on that list. I just don't take you off of it. I don't. I want that number one spot, though. Well, you can be a leader or follower, Murphy or leader. That's right. Hey, but before we get into talking about all the other stuff, you know, there's times of days, there's there's times of the season. And there's the time in our episode in our podcast when I have to ask you, do you know what time it is, Murph? Do you know what time it is? I'm going to ask you one more time. Guess what time it is? I think I know what time it is. It's time for Small Town Police Bladder. That's the theme from the Wild West, which will factor into one of our episodes. There you go. Coming up. All right. Murph, do you know where Miami Gardens is? Yes, I do. Don Shula has a restaurant there. Well, Don should never hire this next guy. You know, Murph, a lot of people go to great lengths to disguise themselves to commit crimes. We've talked about people who've dressed up as clowns, which is easy to spot. What do you look like? It's the only dude dressed like a frickin' clown, man. Just, you know, people have drawn permanent markers on their face. Well, have you ever heard of a guy that put a box on his head? No. Well, this this rocket scientist did, he broke in to a phone repair store in Miami Gardens at four in the morning. He was committing a burglary. Pro tip for you writers out there, my biggest pet peeve, do not call it a robber. You cannot rob a store. You can burgle a store. You rob people. So he broke into the iRepair tech shop located at 4500 NW 183rd in Miami Gardens. And he had a box on his head. Well, because he wanted to disguise his face. But you know, there's one problem with the box. Unless you cut holes in it to see. You can't see. So to see what he was doing, he took the box off of his head and just happened to be looking up at the camera. And then he put the box back on his head. Well, now the owner of the store rightly assumed that this guy was not the brightest bulb in the pack. And so he decided to go around the neighborhood and say, hey, here's this face. If you see him, let me know. And guess what? They found him drinking with his friends at the nearby liquor store. I guess he couldn't find the hat. No, anything but a box anyway. But he was charged with grand theft, burglary, criminal mischief, cocaine possession and resisting an officer without violence. According to the police, he stole 19 phones and $8 ,000 in cash, a total of $15 ,000. And where did he go? Blow it on. Blow it on. Coke. Booze. Booze and Coke. But no math. No math. Not yet. Not yet anyway. Not yet anyway. Don't do math. Murphy, you know, let's, you know, in our next story, this one comes to us out of Clay County, Missouri. Now, Clay County is over up by Kansas City, Missouri area. For you folks, pro tip, there are two Kansas cities, Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. So don't assume. Always ask before you say, oh, Kansas City, Missouri? Okay, no. Could be Kansas. As if it's not confusing enough to start with. Yeah, but this one comes from Clay County, Missouri. Now, Murph, if you remember back in your days when you used to be a real cop, Krusty Krab, West Virginia, and you were driving down the road, you guys didn't have personalized tags at that time in West Virginia, did you? Not that I remember. But if you'd been driving down the road and you saw a personalized tag that said, We High.

"To make sure that was down from two 75, you said? Yeah, roughly two 75. So just drop the weight, got my cardio up, got my, at that time, I could do one pull up just because probably because I was a man and just like, I can pull my body weight up once, you know what I mean? That type thing and I had to start hitting it and just training and when I put my mind to something, well, what I'm going to do, I'm going to do it. So that was just kind of how it was. I was told the entire time that I'm too big to be a S.W.A.T. guy. I'm never going to make it, you know? And not only did I make it I did 17 years on the team and I retired from the team. So it was pretty awesome. Oh yeah. Now, how long did you have to complete so when they set that physical up? Is that something you do in a day? Was there a time limit to get everything done including the time drones and the obstacle course? Oh yeah, no, it was about a two hour they ran it like a machine. You did this. As soon as you did it, you had 15 minutes to get to the next one. All of them don't sound too tough, but when you do them all in one little back to back to back. It was tough. And so and the funny thing is, so I'm glad that I went out before I did it because I was always worried about the rope climb and the pull ups and running the mile. And I would look at the obstacle course and be like, well, if I can do these other things, I'm an athlete, whatever I can get through an obstacle course. Didn't make it through the obstacle course my first time. So I had to put some work in on that. So how many times did you test for S.W.A.T. then? Four times. And so when you did it, the fourth time, and you hit everything. How did that feel when you finally got her done? Well, no, I mean, well, I got them done two other times of Ford. I knew I was going to pass the fiscal. It was just getting selected and getting that. It's funny 'cause I always tell people people are like really happy. Like, yeah, we got selected. We made it. And I was like, that's like celebrating. We just got captured. Because now we got to put in 6 months of our work. I'll say congrats, we've been captured by alpena, yeah. Yeah. So how long so you tested didn't get selected? How long would it be between each test before you so you had to go back and test each time what you're saying when they had a new selection process? Oh, yeah. And I mean, I tested three times before I was even eligible to make it. So I would do it and then I went and eligible, so they say thank you for coming out, Jared, nice to see you, hey see you next time type deal. And it was mostly just to let them know that I'm not going away. I'm still here and I still want. Did they think you were crazy or were there other people crazy like you that were not doing that? That's with everybody did. I mean, we're all a little bit crazy. That's why you're on S.W.A.T.. But that's the dedication it takes. You go put yourself through it and show that you're willing to hurt yourself and do all these things. And you will in the sacrifice because that's all they're really looking for out of a new S.W.A.T. guy. I offer nothing to them except for being strong and being fit and being determined. And then they'll be coachable teachable. Yeah, they'll teach me everything else. So that's just kind of how it is. Well, come on, tell us the real reason you got on S.W.A.T., 'cause they let you grow beards. No, they didn't let us grow beards at that time. So we couldn't have beards at that time. So oh, that came later. That was good. All right, so when you got on S.W.A.T., then what's the next thing? How do they I don't know, do you guys do a certification process? Additional training? What's the standard before you go from being selected? Now you go through 6 months. What does it take to get to that point where you can deploy on a team? Yeah, so there's not a standard per se like a national standard or state standard, but for us it was over a hundred hours of training and now they get a bunch more training, but for us, it was just we only got you get a hundred hours of training and then twice a year we always go and do a 40 hour 5, 5 day trip during the spring and the fall for the whole team to get together and do training training up for the year. So we get two of those a year. So once you have your hundred, then you kind of go to the 5 day and then that's when you'll get initiated or receive your pen right there at the end of the 5 day if you make it through. What kind of pin was it? Just said S.W.A.T.. What kind of what kind of initiation was it? And you got to make the S.W.A.T. team for sheriff's office for you to tell you that. You know, 'cause the seals too, you're so special forces guy. You know, they'll pound that pin on them. You know, at the end of training, once they qualify rangers, you know, seals and stuff. So that's a pound. Did they pin that they pound the pin through your flesh? I don't know. You'd have to try out. Okay. I'm sorry, man. I'll just stay in command and walk in like Macarthur did after the whole battlefield has been secured, right? Yeah. So you get on S.W.A.T. now, are you married at the time? What's your status when you get on S.W.A.T.? Single when I made S.W.A.T.. And what kind of lifestyle were you having at that point? I mean, you're single guy. Now you've made it onto S.W.A.T.. You're getting to do a lot of fun stuff. What was life like right then? Life like that. It was a good time. Had a good job had a good to do what I wanted, had a little bit of money in my pocket and it was fun. Now, had you moved out on your own at that point? Oh yeah, I moved out of my own in the academy. I was out on my own. But yeah, I mean, it was it was a good time. You know, working off duty, making extra money doing, it was. It was good. It becomes your life at your lifestyle. Yeah. Hey, well, actually, before we get into that, once you made the S.W.A.T. team, once you're initiated, what was your, what was a week like for you guys? What kind of schedule did you guys work? How many callouts a week did you get? So we're a full-time team. At the time, when I made it, now you kind of move over into the S.W.A.T. office. But that is built over the years that I've been on the team. Back then, you still stayed on patrol. Like the newer guys were on patrol and the older guys were in what we call the S.W.A.T. office. So I would just do regular work. Unless S.W.A.T., unless we had a S.W.A.T. mission, and if our team was like, so our S.W.A.T. team was broke up in four different squads. So if your squad was up, you had to do work. And we averaged over 350 missions a year. So as it goes up, so we're doing S.W.A.T. stuff a lot, and then I'd have to go work patrol and just bounce back and forth. So I carry on our trunk. Yeah, like our trunk was just full of all my S.W.A.T. stuff. So at the time we had pagers, if your pager went off when you were at work, you just called your sergeant said I got to go. And then you got to go. Hey, now enter, you mentioned earlier that a couple of times a year for 5 days. They get everybody together and train you up. So during those 5 days, who covered for S.W.A.T. or were you guys still in the area and could respond if you had to or how did that had you handled that? Sometimes we were still in the area and sometimes we would use like clay county was kind of like our sister, saint Johns county is kind of like our sister S.W.A.T. teams and they can handle a call out. Or there's been several times that we're in the area, but not too far. And if they call out, wasn't that like we would drive? If your team was up, we had several times. All right guys, we're out of here. And they leave.

But he really knows all of the Philadelphia region southeastern Pennsylvania. He knows the state well to economically. As he tries desperately to get Not just his county of Clay County and the Chamber of Excuse Me, not play Old County, Chester County. I should say hey, tries to get Chester County back online, but all of the Southeast and really all of Pennsylvania. I mean, and he's an advocate for the country to get back online. Economically, he's guy. Sure, Rocky. President of the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry and Guy, I'm glad to have you back this morning. Thanks for your time. Hi. Good morning, Chris, who would have thought when we first started talking about the lockdown last March, we'd be talking about them at the end of January. It's really something and then to hear Joe Biden, you know, yesterday make reference to the fall. I mean, it's me, he said, the words early fall. I made me shudder when he said it, but he said it Yeah. The lack of urgency. From some of the elected officials, the lack of urgency, the lack of and you just referenced it. I mean the lack of urgency, but the detachment Not understand what's going on in individual homes and small businesses. In month 11. It's breathtaking it, it's frightening. And the idea that this nation which has managed to discover a vaccine for a pandemic for for a virus, we didn't know about that we can at the same time. Come together and figure out how to open up pizza parlors, bars, restaurants and elementary schools. We can figure it out. We're not being called to that. We're not being called to that. Now we're not being united as a nation to get back to normal. See, that's not the cold alarms. The cold alarms is to stand down and wait. For many small businesses in many families, they can't guy. Why is this? I mean, I really I do have to ask the why I mean and I There's the There's the political instinct in me to boil it down to just, you know, Democrat Republican liberal, conservative and and sort of the idea of ideology. Maybe it's more complex. Maybe there's a human nature element to this and you've seen it, And there's a more honest or difficult answer that zoo not a simple is politics. Why What on earth possesses a county commission, a health department, a school board to keep the status quo going and going and going like this. What is it guy? What are you encountering out there? I think it's a few things. I mean, I think again, you know, let's let's put to the side. March April of last year. You know the brand new virus was coming. We wanted Tol hunker down, protect the hospitals. Do what's right and assess. So let's give everybody a Mulligan for the first again wherever you want to draw your line, The 1st 10 days the 1st 30 days of 1st 60. I think the problem as we sit here, you know the end of January a year later, is that No one has been thinking about reopening. I mean a lot of times in business a lot of times in life. You can't do one thing without thinking about the other. You know, you can't remove your front window and not think. Gosh, What are we going to do to patch it up? And they were in such a rush to lock us down. In March that they never thought about what the plan would be to Bree Open. They were in such a rush to tell businesses to stop serving customers that they never thought about it. So I think First of all, it's a lack of forethought, a lack of planning, But by the summer and the fall of last year, I think it's a lack. It's a disconnect. It's in the beginning. It was that they didn't think about it. But as you get into month 56, 10 and 11, it's that it's just not a priority. If you listen to Governor Wolf Who's looking for, you know, befuddled at a at a state budget. It is has a enormous deficit mean he talks about a reliance on the federal government to close the gap. The idea's governor. You keep all the restaurants close. You keep all the museums called close. You keep all the barber shops closed. I think you sit around and wait for Washington to drive up a big truck and drop it out on the steps of the state capital. That's just not a recovery plan, and it's just not prudent as you're in the 11 months, so I think it's a lack of planning. But I think it's also a disconnect. I think it's not understanding. It. Folks can't wait in Mark 11. You just can't ask people to just hang in there that somehow it's patriotic or virtuous. For restaurants cannot be able to function museums to have to be closed that somehow it's a virtue to sit at home, waiting for government to tell you when you go back and take care of yourself and your family, it's not virtuous. Are you? I mean, are you in a place it all at the Chester County Chamber of Business and industry? Gosh, Iraqi with us by the way, President CEO there this vaccine rollout. Does this give you any? I mean, I would love to say hooray! Happy days are here again. It's just around the corner..
