"Who knows how to win Going against the team that's still trying to figure that out Yeah what's the old phrase will versus skill We know the lighting have a skill They have the higher amount of will Yes And you know I spent two plus days trying to get people to define determination for me John Cooper just didn't want to play along with me but after Tuesday's game he didn't have to because we saw it That was just a determination of a team that knows how to win wants to win Understands how to win and understands the sacrifice it takes And to me I think that's a difference because they've slowed Florida down and that is not easy to do They put they've imposed their will defensively They've imposed the world obviously in the block shots and being in lanes and not letting Florida feel good about their game right They've really taken Florida out of their game And if you can do that I mean this is a team again the scored 4.1 goals per game during the regular season first team to average four goals per game since what Pittsburgh and 95 94 95 95 96 in that range So yeah it's to me it's will versus skill and the lightning have the will as you would expect from a two time champion versus a team that won their first playoff series in 30 years 5 on 5 I think the Panthers like what they've done but special teams is killing them And lightning certainly have a ton of very good job in that category Both killing them off and scoring Yeah four power play goals and two games obviously what quotas owe for 8 I think I'm a series old for 25 in the playoffs countless series against Washington But even 5 on 5 Florida's had the puck more You can't argue that and the numbers will show that But they're not getting looks You know Sam Ben has had their best folks He's had a couple of pretty good points Link shots Claude Giroux had a really good opportunity in the slot in game one off the rush one of the few rushed chances that Florida has created When it was still a two one game for the tide So basilisk comes up with a big save But you know I was looking down the numbers last night and this is what you have to hope continues The top four players in shot attempts in this series so far through two games for Florida as Brandon montour Gustav warsi Claude Giroux and Sam Bennett It's not Jonathan Hubert It's not Sasha park It's not Carter Rohit It's not Anthony declare It's not Sam Reinhart I mean and you have to hope you can continue to contain those top players because if you do you're going to give yourself a really good chance to win the series not that they already have that up to nothing I mean it's an 80 history tells you 80% of the teams that go up to go on to win the series We also haven't seen Florida get a lot of rebound chances And maybe that's because the block shots maybe that's just because vastly has done a really good job of not allowing it But you get the sense listening to Florida Looks like marques is going to be on the power play Try to get a net front presence try and make life a little uncomfortable and he can do that He can I don't think we've seen enough of that from Florida Now it's almost like I've mentioned this a few other places in that Florida if I'm coach Sean Cooper and I want to get inside that Florida dressing room The one thing I'm saying is we got a sweeter game up Yeah We have to be faster It's almost like they're trying too hard to be a playoff defensive team And that's not who they are You can still do some of that but you do have to stay true to your DNA in some ways too and I don't think Florida has done that really through this whole playoffs I know they won the series against Washington but Washington had them on the ropes a couple of times and let them off the hook And Tampa Bay has kind of really held them and checked too but they've tried almost too hard to concentrate on being defensively sound but that's not how your team was built And we know we've seen it over the past three years how you do have to kind of shift your mindset but you can't go from being what Florida was on the regular season to what they're trying to be This is the criticism of capitals teams have all those years high flying offense under boost boudreaux and Alex Ovechkin is winning all kinds of awards But at the end of the day they got to the playoffs they couldn't get past the second round They would always find ways to lose games instead of trying to find ways to win them And I think that's kind of a floor that's trying to be here So if I'm Andrew Brett I'm trying to speed my game up and be that team Agreed We'll see what happens Yeah should be fun Thank you All right we'll see you right here Joining us right there from lighting insider dot com Also.

"Stanley Cup playoffs are starting tonight. And I guess how would you summarize, Greg? How would you summarize what some of us may have missed if we were delinquent ignoramuses throughout the NHL regular season? Well, first of all, the regular season got normal again. Now it's back to the weight. It used to be, which is four divisions, basic traditional setup, back to the same wildcard playoff format they've had since 2014. For better or for worse. But the things you need to know about this regular season Pablo are twofold. One, it was really long, and it was long because the NHL built in an Olympic break in February that they didn't really need for the Olympics. It turns out, due to the COVID pandemic, IE over a hundred postponed games, the NHL opted not to send their players to Beijing. They kept the Olympic break as a time to make up some of these games, but if you have postponed games, it means you have some players that weren't in the lineup because they were in the COVID protocols. And then that led to there being over 1000 players this season that played at least one game in the NHL and on the goalie side, we had more goalies play one game in the NHL that we've ever had in a single season. All of this added up to an offensive boom, like we haven't seen since 1996 in the league. It was the highest scoring per game of average we've had since then and it benefited a lot of teams and a lot of players and it was truly one of the most exciting regular seasons for offense that we've had in a very long time. Wait, so all of these guys, all the replacement players who got called up off the street because people needed healthy bodies to replace the people who could not play, that did not result in great defense. You're telling us. It did not. Most seasons, we see goaltender say percentage, gradually get better and better as the season goes on. This season, it's been the opposite. It's gotten worse and worse. And there are a few theories about this, one that I definitely buy into is the last two years have been so mentally and physically draining on these guys because of compacted schedules because of their routines being rough to interrupt. Don't forget, we had one season starred in January. This season's going on to the end of June, their internal clocks are all messed up. Whomst among us, Greg. I mean, I mean, is there a more relatable explanation for this decline? So I want to drill down here now on the Florida Panthers because I can't wrap my mind still around how it is that this team wound up being a favorite. In these Stanley Cup playoffs, I understand that they wound up with the best record now, but this started off extraordinarily differently. It really did. Now, it started off well, they were undefeated out of the gate, but then head coach Joel Quinn resigned in late October in the wake of the sexual assault scandal for the Chicago Blackhawks as former player Kyle beach reported the sexual assaults. It was covered up basically by the team and eventually had to pay the piper on that and resigned. He was replaced by his assistant coach Andrew brunette, brunette has never been a head coach in this league before. I talked to him early in the season and being a head coach in the NHL actually wasn't anything he was even thinking of at the time. GM Bill zito had to make sure he actually wanted to do the job before he gave it to him. But under brunette they won 51 of 75 games. He imported a lot of the same systems that grenville was coaching, but I think the credit has to be given to someone who is able to shepherd this team through a very tumultuous time early in the season. Keep them on course and get them to the best record that they've ever had as a franchise. They had some great performances, winger Jonathan Hubert, a 115 points, the best offensive season, the team has ever had. And what I like about the Panthers Pablo is they're a great mix between players and their prime. And your classic old guys without a cup. 24 year veteran Joe Thornton of the epic playoff. Yeah. Former flyers captain Claude Giroux, whom they acquired at the trade deadline. Like they've got some absolute big, bold faced star names on this team that may be a little bit past their prime to go along with players that are absolutely killing it in their prime right now. And the question of someone's prime, Greg. I mean, it does raise the question immediately about Alexander Ovechkin, right? Because that's who the Panthers are facing, they're getting the Washington capitals in that first round. And Ovechkin is day to day. I mean, look, hockey injuries are just a truly opaque thing to me. And I think also to people in hockey, it described right now as an upper body injury, what Ovechkin is dealing with. What's his status? What would his absence signify? Well, Ovechkin slid into the boards, he clearly injured his shoulder in some manner. Ovechkin with a steal comes in on the breakaway to the backhand. He missed the net. It rolled off his stick and with betcha is hurt. They kept him out of the last couple games of the regular season. Now, as of Sunday morning, he was taken full skating practice in Washington before their playoff series. I think the anticipation is that he's going to play. I mean, we've talked about it before Pablo. He is Russian machine. He does not break. Does that break? So I think he'll play whether he'll be a 100% who knows. I remember talking to some of his teammates for a story I wrote earlier this season for ESPN dot com about his chase of the Wayne Gretzky goals record and they all said the same thing which is we have no idea how banged up this guy has been during portions of his career because he just produces all the time. And so playing through pain, playing through injury, nothing new for Alex Ovechkin, but I will say this if he's diminished in any way, their goose is cooked, man. He has been the team if Ovechkin can't carry the load offensively in their first round series. I don't think the capitals have a prayer against the Panthers. So the team who needs a prayer, the team whose goose seems to be like charred, or at least it has been for decades. Is a Toronto Maple Leafs, and we've laughed at them before. We've praised them before, but the facts are as such, right? Having one since 1967, no team actually from Canada has won it all since the Canadians in 93. So what do you make of what Toronto has in front of them without, you know, sounding like a person who, I don't know, has tried to hope for good things before and has only seen paid. Someone who has picked them to win the cup before only to have them go out in the first round. Yes, I've been that guy. You multiple times. On this podcast. So the interesting thing about the leaves is even though they have not won since 67, and even though they have a very, very difficult first round matchup against the Tampa Bay lightning, I kind of feel like there's a little bit of optimism floating around in Toronto for some reason. It's dangerous. It's very dangerous. Not planned the parade optimism, but optimism nonetheless. One of the reasons it's got to be the season that auston Matthew said. Now, Matthew is just one his second straight skull scoring title in the NHL with 60 goals that set a Toronto franchise record. Matthews became the first 60 goal scorer in a decade in the NHL and the first U.S. born player to hit that mark. So Greg, Greg, the first U.S. born player to hit that mark. The first man with a mustache that looks like mine to hit that mark, I think. He is, he's a looker. And a fashion plate at that. One of my favorite photos of auston Matthews of all time was him dressed in a jacket, made him look like M bison from Street Fighter. Go find it on the Internet. It's.

"So when you're talking about rivalries, it's take the hammer, UNC, and take the nail duke. It's a fucking joke. People text me, they're 51 and 51 all time playing against each other. Dude, you just got embarrassed in the last home game of your legendary coach and the only time you've ever played in the NCAA tournament. You are losers compared to UNC and I don't even have a dog in this fight. I don't even know anyone who went to either squash and Caleb went to UNC, but there is no comparison whatsoever for those two programs. None. Yeah, and apparently they've had the biggest heels as well. That late in her grace and Allen. Grayson Allen, who was tripping everybody, so I've been digging a little bit more into it, and somebody actually sent me a longer fact sheet than what big cat hats, so people have been adding on to it. So there was actually another year where the team had struggles out of the gate and then he had like a back injury. And that might be the GIF of where he just crumbles over on the court. So I mean, this is pure comedy. And I would have to agree with you though. I tend to lean towards UNC, although I kind of want to jump on this duke bandwagon just to fucking stir it up. Well, you could kind of stay on brand and just root for both. Whoever goes farther. Also with two, if you didn't go to, if you didn't go to duke, how do you root for duke, you know what I mean? It's like rooting for Yankees Lakers. Oh, you mean, you mean Marty mush didn't go to duke? You don't say. Oh, sure. I just thought a couple more Bruce Willis movies that way. Should I lie? I looked them up. The last boy scout kind of a cheesy 80s style movie even though it was from the 90s, check that out. 12 monkeys, him and Brad Pitt. You ever see that one? I never saw it. We'll check it out. It's kind of trippy movie. Nobody's full with Paul Newman, a good one. And then of course he was the voice of the baby and look who's talking, which is a huge hit back in 89, 90, whatever. And also he was an extra one of his first movie roles. The Boston movie, the verdict, what Paul Newman as well. He played an extra in one of the courthouse scenes if you, if you're watching it, you can see him in the background. So just want to give Bruce a little extra shot out. It didn't have enough movies from there. All right, moving right along. F one racing is going to Vegas in 2023. I sent you guys the course for the race. They're going to be racing at nighttime down the strip in Vegas. That thing is going to look un fucking believable. You guys have been to a race anyone, sorry, G, biz, you've been to F one before, haven't you? I went to the F one race in Montreal, but I was too busy trying to bank broads rather than watch the cars go round and round and round. I will say very loud event. You got to wear those earmuffs. It's so loud. It's kind of annoyingly loud. And then it's kind of cool though afterward after the guy wins the race. Everybody's allowed to walk the track. So you can just on foot jump over the gates and they allow the fans to just walk it. Maybe that was only in Montreal. But I don't know how crazy the events are. In other places, but the F one race in Montreal, it put it on your bucket list and do a bachelor party for it. And it is, it has taught notch. The party, the partying doesn't stop and it's just the energy around is incredible. Mind you, I had max Talbot bringing me around. I think Claude Giroux joined us that trip. Boyd Gordon was there. So we had like ten and HL guys. Mike. Talbot, drive his Nissan pumpkin on the oh, yeah. He won the race. He won it. He won. That was the story I told that max ended up getting us these tickets, and yeah, not a bad accent there, all right? RA's got a half job after I said sip the sale. And we were all set in front row and they had the girls who were the gymnasts who were in these crazy outfits that would go like energized the crowd and do these dances after they were actually on stage performing. And one of them threw a piece of paper at Commodore. And then we unraveled it and it was all the girls names and numbers. And then you could see what they looked like in the programs. We never ended up meeting up with them. But, you know, we kept it cordial, but it was an incredible trip. Was there as well? Let's just put it this way. I was supposed to leave Sunday. I left Tuesday. That's how long the trip entered up. Yeah, I mean, just the visual on Vegas at nighttime, like bombing down the strip. I'm not a huge, I'm not even another racing guy, but I'm definitely gonna check that out. They were supposed to do embossed on a couple years ago, but like everything else. Let's put it this way too. I burn more rubber than they did on the tires in the race. You are Robbins. Yeah, sonic. This is kind of a funny story. Merriam Webster, they're a longtime dictionary company. They have a Twitter handle. They actually explained what key bumps are on their Twitter handle this week. Oh, nice. Well, I tested some dipshit politicians in D.C.. I guess one of them said some of those key bumps. So merriam Webster said, people are talking about key bumps. And so we have a duty to tell you some things about this. It might do this one of the most reputable dictionaries in the world. A bump in this context may be defined as a small quality of an illicit drug wind inhaled and pouted form at one time. We do not enter key bump as a fixed phrase as it has not yet demonstrated wide currency of use. You may, if you choose referred to small amounts of drugs sniffed off a key as key bumps, but there is something you should be aware of. The issues of key is what we call an attributive noun, you can read more about it here. That's the world we live in now. We get dictionaries explain and fucking cocaine. He doesn't know that he doesn't know that Zucker in her injury, but he knows about this key bump story. How the fuck did this make the outline? I have no idea. All right, I will finish with this then business. This is more of a rally. Sydney Sweeney, you off the HBO show euphoria. I can apparently hear grandparents said she had quote the best tits in Hollywood. They watched her show, and I guess if the grandmother says it, that's one thing because women saying compliment and titanium. Maybe they grandfather has her only fans. Yeah, I was gonna say, but grandpa chime in and a little awkward there. Didn't we talk about that last week in the pod? No, we just talked about the only fans girl who found out her dad. Yeah, yeah, no, that's what I'm saying, yeah, he was subscribed. But I for one will not disagree with Sidney Sweeney's grandparents, though, just for the record. Do you watch euphoria? Absolutely. Great job. Terrific show. No, no, I've heard a lot of good things about it. I also heard that it's maybe for like the younger generation. That's ship idiots online. Oh, you are too full control about high school kids. It's like, who gives a fuck if something's well acted well written well shot and is entertaining. Oh, yeah. Fuck that. No, euphoria, awesome show dude. And by the way, Zendaya is she's gonna win another fucking Emmy this year. One of the episode in particular, if you watch it the shit, one of the best performances I will show I've ever seen in the history of TV, I say that with no fucking quasi. Yeah, girl, I guess. Phenomenal. Phenomenal actress, and yeah, to show yeah, it's about high school kids, but there are so many themes about other things going on. Addiction and kids are exposed to nowadays. It's horrific show and I know it's got a detractors, but highly recommend it. Oh, so it's more about the horrific show, terrific show..

"Up front, jumbo joke can be a calming voice in the room, but he doesn't have that on ice impact that he once did. He's a fourth liner. So getting him was probably important in that regard as to he knows exactly what it takes inside those very emotional series he's been to a Cup final. He's competed against the Pittsburgh penguins in the heydays and really know what playoff performing is about. And even despite the fact that Claude Giroux is aging, he has a great season offensively. He's got great analytic numbers. He is still playing at the top of his game and I don't think that they had to give up an absolute boatload to get them, especially at the fact that they kind of cornered him and saying, that's the only team I want to go to. So as far as other GMs who did a great job at the deadline, tip your cap to Bill zito because at the issues that they had now, especially with the ekblad injury, the sharat move making even more sense and looking even better. Great move for Giroud, great move for the Florida Panthers. They're still at the top. They still are not in the clear though because that is a wagon of a conference. Yeah, and unfortunately not a little off topic in terms of bringing Giroud, but the Panthers are completely fucked without ekblad. And that is a great team upfront can play with any team in the league up front. Now, especially with Giroux and he can play center, he can play wings, say Bennett wants to stay at center, he could play on the wing for him or play on the wing with barkov on the top line, but that team that team I thought needed two defensemen. They got chiarot, which was a great addition, but they are not the same team without Aaron ekblad. And you have heard that he's out for the rest of the regular season and will return in the first round, but I mean, that means he's out at least a month, you know, all of a sudden you hop back into a first round, whether it's with the bruins, whether it's with the leafs, it's gonna be a good team that they're playing against. And if he's even misses the first two, three games of that first round, like you're in a lot of trouble, so hopefully he's back, but without him, they're screwed. They're screwed, because their D wasn't really great to begin with, even though sharat will be a difference maker for them. I don't know if you have the exact tweet RA. I'm gonna put my tinfoil hat on and keep in mind, this is just that he's not injured at all. Let me put my tinfoil hat on. It's already on. Oh, sorry, that's our pink Whitney spring. I believe the day that act blood went on long-term IR. If they hadn't put a player on long-term IR, they would have been forced to deal a current player off their roster in order to open up cap space to add Claude Giroux. And if it wouldn't have happened before 5 p.m. of the day that they made the deal for Giroux, that was the case. Now, listen, I am in no way shape or form saying that F plot is faking this injury. Absolutely not. I would never say that. I feel terrible for him because I agree with you with. If they don't have ekblad in that lineup, I think they're toast. They can even lose first round after selling the farm in order for this cup run. All right, do you have the tweet? I actually have it right here. I'll read it if you want. It says cat friendly had this. They said, last night, we said that the Panthers, this was on March 20th. They said last night we said that the Panthers did not have the cap space to fit Giroux under their ceiling without a corresponding move, but they had until 5 p.m. Eastern Time today to do it. We have now been told that Florida has placed Aaron ekblad on LTIR, giving them an additional 7.5 million in relief. If and remember, I have a tinfoil hat on right now, so anything I say with the tinfoil hat is not being taken seriously if, in fact, ekblad pulled that off. Give him the Norris and give him a fucking Oscar, Ari. He did look like he was in a lot of pain and Anaheim though. So hopefully he is okay and he'll be back because like I said without him, they really don't have a chance. It's like trying to say Tampa to have a chance to win a third and roll without head minutes. They need that guy. He's their number one. Yeah, obviously fucking huge loss. So we got to mention. Let me take my tinfoil hat off. We want to go back to drew for a second. He took that final lap as a fly after the game. It was 1000 game real emotional scene from and the other cool thing that flies that they had his dad come in to introduce the lineup for his last game. I don't know if you guys caught that. Pretty good shit from the flies, but you know, it's a new staff at drew and we'll see what happens down in Florida. And I hope at some point we do find out like he was so dialed in and wanted Florida. That was the only place he'd go. I was confused. What did you mean though? Why did they why did they say anything? What do you mean? You said, why did they have to tell everyone that? You know what I'm saying? I'm saying if the flyers were the only two knew he wasn't going to go anywhere else. They still could have negotiated with other teams. But why? He wouldn't have gone there. Just at least try to maybe drive up the price because if Florida didn't know he was that was his only destination. You know what I'm saying? If drew and Philly, we tweet each other. Hey, I'm getting this from them and they're not lying even though they don't know they're never going to go. And maybe it became, yeah, but I know what you're saying. Right. But he definitely had his sights set on being a panther. And maybe in terms of Colorado, he's comfortable, he's played in the east, his whole career. You know what I mean? What, tinfoil has? No state tax. What's his dog? It's huge too. We already mentioned not Ben chiarot, the Panthers, those are pretty much the Ben Shaw sweepstakes going on. A lot of teams are looking to add the battle hot and veteran..

"You were listening to live local and loud. Here's Nick and Jerry. Right, hanging out on a Wednesday night here on live local and loud. My name is Kevin refuse filling in for Nikki football tonight. Jerry Daniels is here as well. 84458. Oh, wdbo is the number are dubsdread teed up. Question of the night. What is the food? You only eat at the buffet You guys can weigh in on the open mic. I usually get the little fixations for my salad. Yeah. Sesame seeds, raisins. I don't necessarily eat those at all. But that kind of stuff, you know? Do you eat raisins at home? I do The reasons of thing. Is that the thing? Oh, yeah. I love raisins, and I know I might be in the minority there. But if it's in a trail mix before I ran my half marathon in Claremont earlier this year, one of the one of my pregame foods I had to literally like the sun dried box of raisins and I just ate one of those. So, uh, Yeah. No, they're definitely really good. And the taking of you flexing. I want to bring this up because we want to talk about flexing. The King of flexing says on Let me get my little flex off. All right. I gotta get something light once in a while. I want to give you a bigger flex opportunity. Because your normal format you don't get a chance to talk about this. But you've got a big award last week. Yeah, So can you talk a little bit about it? Because Pete, the listeners out there might not realize you're actually good. And you've been recently recognized for that? Yeah. Shouts of the Florida Association of Broadcasters. Associated Press was kind enough to name me as the 2020 best news anchor in Florida. I just got the award got the trophy officially, so Trying to figure out what I'm putting it, But, uh, you know, definitely the biggest moment of my career so far, so I'm you know, extremely grateful to everybody here, Wdbo, the Orlando's evening news crew. I'm not going to do a whole thank you speech, but you know everybody. No, no, but it's nice. You know to hear about it. So the one rule is you have to put it somewhere behind Where you do your zoom calls. Oh, yeah. So wherever you do your zoom calls It has to be behind you. Oh, yeah. You better believe every time I record the driving this NBA podcast now, which you can find everywhere on any podcast platform with myself and Justin Cozart or Powell up at ESPN. 6 90 in Jacksonville. You gotta please believe that it will be in the background every single time. Low key changed by Lincoln. As soon as I got the trophy as well, it was like, Hey, you know, listen, I got a little something to add to the resume. I am putting in the Twitter bio. I'm not going to be that guy. Promise you won't be that guy. No, I will, but shall be that guy Shout out to our guy Tony Marino as well. Who did do that? Yeah, who did do that and won an AP Award for his continuing coverage. Of the 2020 elections of cool stuff there, especially the pandemic year. Um, glad to be recognized again. Shout to the Florida Association of Broadcasters Lightning back on the power play. We're about 11 minutes left in the first period. Still nothing. Nothing. Montreal is on the power play that got killed off by the bolts. We'll see if they can cash in on this one. Their second power play already, of course, will be keeping an eye on that. Going back to the salads in the buffet is well, Mo just popped in here a little bit ago. We were talking about this in the open mic, where he mentioned the beats and stuff like that in the salad. Mo is the same way she says. She never eats beats anywhere else. But if she said a salad buffet, she's getting beats every single time. Yeah, That's a weird thing. It's like I I would never think of eating beets. Except for at a buffet. It's just like one of those things you just don't think of. Yeah, but when you look at a buffet, you're like that. Seems like something that I'm not going to die from eating. So Yeah, Beats is one of those items that just stands out. Speaking of stands out what else is behind you on that zoom call like what other things, are you? I know. Now you're putting that Association of broadcasters Award behind you on that zoom call. What else are you putting behind you So far? It hasn't really been anything crazy because a lot of times like I have a laptop standard record on my couch. So it just kind of has the pictures behind us of we have three pictures framed above our couch. Just places we've been like some of my favorite places that you know my girlfriend and I have gone together. So like we've got a picture from Big Sur, we've got a picture from Ireland and we've got a picture from. I forget the third one. Actually, Thermal might have just been mine. I think it's a Rocky Mountain National Um, So there's something get moved off for the trophy. No, the trophy goes next because they're hanging on the wall like I'm not going to hang the trophy on the wall. It's It's a, um so it'll it'll kind of go on like an end table thing behind me my thing at work. I don't zoom at work as much. But if you look at my desk at work where I work in the newsroom have, like six or seven Funchal Pops. I gotta be honest. I love those little things. Um, it's start collect. Yeah, And it started as just like I got a couple. Um, I've got Claude Giroux, the Flyers captain, I got Panos with the infinity gauntlet and I got the notorious B I G. And then it just started expanding like I had multiple people like Sam, for example, are Palestinian Albuquerque got me to pass because he said, I can't. I cannot biggie without Tupac. Um, I got Steve from stranger things when he's in the ice cream outfit because I love ice cream like that's why one thing If you know if there's nothing, anyone take that away from me with this show, I love ice cream like ice cream is my favorite. You are kind of an addict. Yeah. Oh, yeah, you're gonna get the chunky donkeys in your drug dealer is Kelly's. My drug dealer is Kelly's for Sure. Um, it is just they just might as well set up direct deposit to my account at this point, um, my cold, but you don't have the annual pass. I don't know how you don't have the annual pass. We'll have to make sure you get an annual pass for next year, so I gotta go. The neatest thing is that I have an annual pass for Kelly's. If I'm gonna cash in with you on any favor, it might be going behind the scenes there because I just I wanted like You know, I mean, what's that? Saying? It's like a kid in a candy store? I mean, I know it's kind of ironic with ice cream, but like I'm 30 years old, and I would be like in heaven. You just no names, but you just found out today..

"Brown or dave sumengkar bob probert vert and a member of mess always said the problem with fighting those three guys propert making <hes> dave brown is one punch one punch not only could have put you out for six to eight weeks wchs it might change your whole career. You know those guys were and i remember stu. Grimson was playing couch and of course the great rivalry the calgary and and everyone was anticipating this fight you know liam would love this stuff right because it was good as he called good old fashioned hockey right then and they dropped the gloves before the puck even dropped and <hes> stu grimson sorta held his own with dave brown <hes> which was a surprise students who was very tough to and in fact he got haymakers so much they called him the the grim receiver was his nickname anyway the interview dave brown and after the guy kind of held held his and brownie said i think we play them again in four days right and that's that's stuff i'm talking about. That's right and he wouldn't do that anymore. You know but back in the day <hes> you know we're we're guys fought defended. Their <hes> defended their players. <hes> you know if you if you if you cross checked of forward you know a superstar guy non fighter while you're gonna get your face filled and when you bring that story <hes> about how can change your career completely. If you fight the wrong guy so you've dirk bogarde who's no longer with us inviting fighting ottawa's matt cartner and you know when you have a situation like that now you've got two guys that can change another guy's life because they're so big and so tough and they can absolutely land these haymakers and the last fight dirk bogarde ever got in in his final. The game hasn't n._h._l. Player was with matt carpenter and cartner landed a punch. That was the most flush punch i've ever seen because most of the time you throw a punch. The fish keeps going right. It just keeps going past the jar. Whatever past the guy it was like on the button fist went nowhere and boo guard took the entire blow of that and it wouldn't be that much longer that he was gone from accidental drug and alcohol over overdose while recovering from that concussion and it just like to just to see the kind of damage that these guys were able to inflict a not blaming. I'm not saying cartner did it would that was a that was a long time where boo guard was taking medication was dealing with concussions but that was the toughest guy in the league at that stage that the most feared guy may be in the whole league the bogeyman they called him and you're absolutely right or your or messier was absolutely right that that these kinds of guys get in fights. They're not just <hes> <hes> not not just fighting for their teammates there in a way you know fighting for their lives when they take on these other big time enforcers yeah i i mean what you can look as far only as your backyard there in ottawa and jim kite. Excuse me ottawa guy comes to mind when he played for winnipeg and when you talk to talk to guys or even if you talk to jimmy kite about your role as a hockey player that he had ad. I think the guy has an argument that there's no tougher job back in the back in those days..

"Marty mcsorley made the list is surprised about that. I thought he was like yeah. Y'all beasley had the infamous donald brashear share incident where he basically decided he's going to play t. ball with the head of donald brashear but beyond that he'd fight for sure but i didn't i never thought of him as anything more than an enforcer no but when you say his name then you say i don't know where that comes to mind right away the up. He's on the list. Oh there's no excuse for the steve moore thing. You've also got a surprise gordie. Howe made it. I know he is mr elbows and everything but i didn't know he was considered that dirty chris chris pronger tie. Domi chris pronger was annoying player while we're talking about annoying dirty all definitely dirty dirty makes you annoying sure sure how ron hextall of course he and billy smith probably the most violent goalies in n._h._l. History matt cook maimed maimed bunch of guys over the years including air carlson. Was that intentional. We'll never know. I'd love to have a conversation. I hope i bump into a golf tournament at some point and and maybe a few drinks into him. Did you do a little step eastep. Little step dancer is that one that one was that accidental <hes> rounding out the list i'll off samuelson eddie shore brian marchment for his kneeing act and dave schultz on there as well so some of the dirtiest guys in h. L. history wreck eh <unk> tuesday your member steve. It was really frightening that people go what is wrong with this guy when they saw what he did. This bad luck in there. I will still maintain my dying day. That was bad luck in there as well. It's dirty violent play but it could easily have been a scenario where you know maybe steve moore lands a different way and <hes> you know he gets pancaked and everything but maybe it's not necessarily as bad as situation. The result is what made it so so terrible. I've seen way in the n._h._l. Them that what was the result seemed to fall on him like underneath his body or something what was yeah i mean he fell on them and then everybody piled on and he's you know it was it just it's just the way the guy lately he punched him in the back back of the head and then sort of pile drove him and i don't think he thought in a million years he do the kind of damage that he actually did but steve moore <hes>. I'm surprised he's like he wasn't more ready for should've known a guy was chasing him and it was almost like he thought that well if i don't make eye contact with the guy's not going to come after me no it doesn't work that way and so he didn't really prepare himself. I'm not blaming the victim here but anyway choosy hits him in the back of the head and then full weight on the back of them and it just everything everything just landed awkwardly at that stage where all kinds of head problems neck problems. The guy was never right again. Never played a single game in the league yeah and then what we started looking into it or listeners did back then because people say what what is wrong with this guy was really the the followed from matt right this guy's insane <unk> and people went way back in his career and started giving examples of what he had done over his whole hockey career <hes> and and one of the crazy things that came out of that was <hes>. Was it a premeditated thing and and everyone said it doesn't look like it's just like you were talking. You know maybe it was in the heat of the moment until people said oh yeah well back in his junior day or or midget tay or something. Maybe maybe even further back. He chased a bus of the opponents team with apparently with his stick and the heel of his stick and smashes ashes on the side of the bus well. It was pulling away. You know it was a very premeditated. Things like obviously a lot of anger was simmering their former sense assistant coach and and head coach briefly mark crawford a lot of people think that <hes> there was a directive potentially from the head coach because the look on mark crawford's face after the incident and right after it like immediately it.

"Everybody loves them and it's an unpopular thing to do when you sell high but it's something you gotta do. If you want to be successful yeah you know some people fall into the <hes> the the myth steve that <hes> you know it's tough for teams to make money you know in the n._h._l. So you know they they begin to feel sorry. Every once in a while for the club saying oh my god you know the salaries they gotta pay and and the league minimum is gone away up and <hes> you know you gotta spend so much money are guys you know and people are like by hate on a sheltie you know and and and some of that can happen in smaller markets but i always use the example <hes> and apparently they're the most successful sports franchise of all time uh-huh and i i. I don't know what it's like over in europe with somebody soccer team the new york yankees is who i'm referring to talk about what the most successful franchise and and people are saying. Oh my god you know there. I remember when they're saying their their team. Salary was seventy million or something. You know route not not not too long ago. What is it now two hundred two hundred million and how frequently do this. You know well. Something like this is years ago to study the media rights to broadcast yucky games. <hes> george steinbrenner was around. I'm sure it's still sane was was something that they got something like a hundred and fifty million a year you know for for broadcast rights for the yankees the merchandise sales you you know. How many times have you seen someone wearing and why hat you know the yankees hot. It's through the roof. It's absolutely astronomical. Well you know the amount of dough before before they've even sold a ticket steve that amount of dough that they have coming in and i remember alex rodriguez when he was. You're looking at re-signing uniquely. He said that's fine but i want a piece of the action..

"It's the hardest thing i think there is to do you can get a guy who's still in his prime but maybe not left much juice left in the a tank and you trade him while he's still popular and still good. That's i think the hardest thing for any g._m. Do and the sends deserve a lot of credit for for trading away brisard when they did because not only did. They get some good stuff for them. I mean brassard has done nothing really since he left ottawa and the sends ended up with a first rounder which they spun into jacob bernard docker and they also have maybe a goalie of the future. They picked up who was a former m._v._p. At the world juniors in <hes> philip gustafsen soon those are two pretty nice assets to give up for brisard. Who's now signing one year contracts for almost rookie elbow yup. I mean people have to get their head around. I'm steve that everyone is overpaid a lot of people's reaction all the time when someone holds out or they're they're <hes>. They're dragging their feet. They're using this deal where they can wait to get you know this case of marta that you just showed you know most people's reactions my god you know how or if i had that kind of money bubba well. The reality is it's all big money. But what was the story the other day steve. I liked it where there was a g._m. I am <hes> who bunch of success last year. Whichever team it was and <hes> everyone assumed they would just re-sign the guy yeah that was that was don waddell l. and <hes> he's the general manager of the carolina hurricanes and tom donahue the owner of the hurricanes. He's got his own way of doing things. He's a little like eugene melnyk that way like i'm not going to be a you know lemmings to the see here. I'm going to financially operate this team. The way i feel like it should be financially. Operated and melniks is a bit like that as well and he basically said the guy well <hes>. If you think you can get more feel free to shop the market look around and i into sort of wild actually interviewed. The guy billy garin by the way was hired as the wild g._m. Yesterday but in the case of dell. I guess it didn't pan out there and he ends up back with carolina caroline. I don't know if it's a tail between his legs scenario. I would say the don waddell had zero stock this time last year and carolina went and hired him and it worked out great is he <hes> took over for ron francis and the carolina hurricanes had their best season in about a decade and you thought it would have been an automatic but it really wasn't because as a tom dunton and the way he does things but they eventually got to deal done yeah. I liked that. You don't see it very often. Gotta make a deal. We gotta make a deal you know. Aren't you gonna resign me. I'm really i was really good. Well we might we might do honestly think it's probably smart play. Tom dunn dunn substance dumb stuff. I would say you know dumping hundreds of millions of dollars in the american alliance of football that would be among the dumb things he's done. Maybe took it at a tax. Write off. I have no idea but here yeah he recognized. There was no market for dawa because he so recently was seen as someone who's on nobody's radar. He got him signed him and he had a great year good for him but i still don't think there was very much of a market for them around the n._h._l. The guys getting on in years <hes> and he was thought of as the guy that was the the atlanta thrashers g._m. And of course we all know they didn't do very much as an n._h._l. Franchise i so i think it's probably a smart play but the point i'm getting out with derek persad though is is that it's such a difficult thing and it's a it's the basics of business. It's a tough thing for gm's to sell high because when the guy's a and when the stock is high on a guy whether it's a player or coach..

"What are your expectations for him this year yeah so let me share a little you know he's last year. He came and i think we broke. We ate goalies playing for us so so <hes> when he came up i think it was after christmas and he came in and kinda. Kinda take took over and he played a lot of games for us. We had a lot of injuries for goalies and what he came in. He kinda relaxed everything. He did a great job in that he made us feel comfortable and for twenty year old to come in and make everybody else feel comfortable. You don't see that often so it's something we're really excited about having a young goaltender like that you know he's young but he doesn't. He doesn't act or play young so he's very mature kid and he's got his head is when <hes> when the puck drops. He's ready to go he. He knows what he has to do. You focus on themselves often. You can't ask for anything else. Good stuff plo jerus- joining us from the philadelphia flyers. I was just a couple more. I was noticing today claude that they're only seven guys in the league have been a captain of their team longer than you have. Do you like that role. Aw and how would you describe yourself in that rule. Yeah i love the role you know to be able to <hes> to be the captain of n._h._l. And i shall team. It's it's a great honor. I don't think we've had the success that we we think we we should have but you know i'm thirty. One people might might say. I'm getting a little older but i don't. I don't feel older so you know. I have a lot of years here to to kind of prove that maybe i can show a little bit more as a leader but the age of hockey <hes>. It's not really one guy that leads. It's it's four or five guys on the team. That's on the same page and and being able to lead a team together and your voices is stronger like that and i think i have. I have some good assistance in doesn't really have to to be an assistant captain. It could be a veteran. That's been through a lot and being able to communicate and so we make sure we communicate together and it's not it it's all about we'll just one guy on a team. It's about four or five guys being able to to be on the same page and share the message fish with the guys on the team he had such great bounceback year two years ago and honestly i should have been right there in the hart trophy discussion over one hundred points after having mm stats wise anyway not your normal numbers so you have over one hundred points in the eighty five points this past season so yeah as an observer. You look like you're right there at aged thirty one looking like the same player. You always have been i wonder have you given any thought visions to how long you see yourself playing this game. Uh since i turned thirty a lot of people ask me that question is how many years you left before and <hes> you know the only answer i got. I gotta go one year time. I'm and i'm gonna play as long as i can. I love the game. I love being a part of a group franchises like the flyers and i'm gonna play as long as i can dan. I'm going to play till they tell me. I'm not good enough so the only thing i can do is summers like this the the summer just make sure i prepare myself the best i can. I'm sure when camp starts. I'm in good shape and i think if i can do that. I can play for a long time so you see guys playing until they're forty forty. One obviously obviously the percentage of that is not high but that's my goal right now closed really a treat to talk to you best of luck in the.

"I know it probably wasn't the number you wanted to go. Yeah we started pretty slow and and now we're a little frustrate out. Starwood can make any pot so <hes> obviously when you <hes> your download try to catch up and then we had a few birdies on the back back to get us back in it and then we're just forcing a little too much and we're <hes> got to bogus aw little frustrating but the n._f._c. We're here to compete and have fun so it was it was good. Do you wanna win. Here is badly almost as you want to win in the n._h._l. And that's actually a problem. I still haven't instead word to my partner yet. <hes> not mad at him but i'm just mad at this situation and when we <hes> every year we try to climb and make it to the final round and we can't. We can't get there but i mean. I guess it's like hockey if you don't if you don't practice you get good and mystic to hockey. I think think for for this year. Tell us about your summer. How are things going good. I gotta little baby boy coming up in the next next few weeks here and so <hes> that's very exciting and a lot of good things happen with the flyers so the summer's been good <hes> enjoying i during the weather's that's been actually not too bad in ottawa this <hes> this summer and but like i said i'm very excited for everything going here so this is your first child right that is correct rest assured it won't change your life a bit so don't worry about that. What about preparations for it has been crazy busy. Yeah i mean anytime you have your first shali. You wanna make sure you're you're prepared. You know what you're doing but as much as you study and read books in videos you won't really know until you get it so that's what i was told in <hes> but you know we're we feel like we're prepared or ready to <hes> to bring another member through our family and it's definitely something. I'm very very special in something very excited that we're the next few weeks. It's gonna be a life changing nice. We're joined by philadelphia flyers captain claude. Maybe you tell us <hes> because you and i had many conversations in past summers working out with tony greco. You've been on the radio show before maybe share with us how the training is gone this year. Yeah ah tony tony do he's. He's someone that works hard and he'll find a way to get the extra step this summer. We've been i mean. I can't really compare it to your summers because every summer we go hard but you know we. We tried to get stronger faster every year. We find other ways to to to get that done and i'm very satisfied as how the train has been the summer. You always come back to ottawa every year. You've got home and philadelphia but you're also call auto home. What is it about auto. I mean you did a good chunky growing up here obviously but <hes> always come back to ottawa. Maybe share with us. Why you love coming back home i moved to when i was fourteen so i have a lot of <hes> <hes> close friends a lot of family members in ottawa also and my wife's from ottawa and it's just you know off season. You wanna go somewhere where you feel comfortable and feel comfortable here so every summer. There's been great sometimes too long of a summer but <hes> you know it's..
