Have you ever wondered about your neighbor's tree branch hanging over your house? Or thought, who really owns that tree on my property line? Is ignoring the questionable tree in my backyard a good idea? Well, in this episode, we talk with an ISA-certified arborist and a lawyer to find out where the law and your urban trees intersect. Lee Clark has worked as a paralegal, a criminal defense lawyer, and a college professor. After earning a master's in forestry from the University of Georgia, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, she now serves with the Georgia Forestry Commission as the community forester for Northeast Georgia. She's responsible for 40 counties. As an ISA-certified arborist and track-qualified, her focus is on supporting cities, counties, and tree advocacy groups to improve the urban tree canopy. Remember, this presentation is informational only and is not legal advice. This fresh episode 126, Branches and Boundaries, Navigating Tree Legalities with Lee Clark. Lee, what is a community forester? Community forester, we have four of them in the state right now. We divided up the state, and we each have many counties. We work with all the counties in the cities and tree advocacy boards within those cities and counties. We try to help all communities maximize the benefits of an urban forest. Trees don't stop their benefits at an artificial zip code line. Trees spread their benefits everywhere. We provide technical assistance to cities and counties, even schools, college campuses, nonprofits, homeowners. We work with cities in passing tree ordinances and helping them form tree boards, then to get recognition for their efforts to preserve and celebrate the community trees. We work extensively with the Tree City USA program, help cities get in and stay into that program. We do help homeowners in cities plan for storms and storm mitigation. Tell us a little bit about the Georgia Forestry Commission. We are a large agency that work to promote healthy community and urban forests. We work throughout the state to help improve forests and forest management. We do a lot of wildland firefighting. We have a large contingent within the Forestry Commission that works with private landowners that have large tracts of managed timber, and we help them manage their forests appropriately. I'm in the small division at the Forestry Commission that is urban and community forestry. We work with cities and counties, and we help communities form tree boards or pass tree ordinances. We help homeowners with managing trees, and then we also help cities with storm planning. You're also an attorney, and I'm curious, why did you change professions from a practicing attorney to a community forester? I was so lucky, I had the opportunity to reinvent myself. I just sat down and thought about it for a while, what would make me really happy? The answer came back of being an arborist, helping trees and helping people learn about trees and take care of trees. So I was just very lucky that I could uproot myself, completely change states and professions. Went back to school at an advanced age, and loved everything that I learned about trees. It just made so much sense that this is really where I need to be. Having come from a legal experience and being an attorney for over 20 years, I can bring that to the table, and I can enhance this job. I can better help cities with tree ordinances, and also I've been lately talking to a lot of communities and groups about tree law. I'm able to do that with my unique background. It is a unique background, and I know lawyers always like to put out a disclaimer about legal. Would you like to put a disclaimer out there? I will if we're going to talk about anything legal. This is informational only. I'm not in the Georgia Bar. I'm in the Florida Bar, but I am inactive in the Florida Bar, so I am not practicing law in any state currently. This is informational only. It's not legal advice. Great. What legal responsibilities do property owners have regarding trees on their land? They have to be a reasonable person. They have to act reasonably. What ultimately is decided to be reasonable, if you really take it out to the extremes, that's what a jury would decide. If you get yourself into a situation, you have a tree fall or there's a liability issue, if it goes as far as it could go, it's going to go to jury trial. In a nutshell, they are deciding did you, as a tree owner, act reasonably. You don't have a duty to inspect for non-visible damage if you're in an urban area. You just have to do what a reasonable person would do, which is there. It's visible, apparent, and patent. You need to notice it and you need to mitigate that. What would an example be of something like that? There is a tree right next to your driveway that every day when you drive in and drive out your driveway, you see this tree. It has a huge amount of decay in it, close near the bottom, right where you can see it when you pass by in your car. The tree appears to be suffering from the wound or the damage, such as it's lost its leaves or its needles. Maybe it's dropping limbs, it does not look alive anymore, it looks hazardous. Most often it's because there is decay and the decay is visible, apparent, and patent, which is all just a lawyer way of saying it's really obvious decay. So if you have a really obvious condition on a tree on your property, you have to check that out. You've got to inspect it, you've got to get someone to look at it that knows what they're doing, and you've got to mitigate it. Now I was in a client's property the other day gathering field notes, and I noticed a fig tree that appeared to be on the neighbor's property. But there were limbs hanging well over what I perceived as the property line, and I couldn't help myself, I had to sample 10 or 12 figs from that fig tree. So my question is, who actually owns that fruit? Strangely enough, different states are going to do it in different ways. Out in the west, they have more specific laws that deal with who owns the fruit and what you can do with it, because there's more tree food crops, and those are cash crops, those are valuable. Where we live in Georgia, it isn't really that much of an issue. We've got pecan trees, whether we want them or not, we've got pecans everywhere, and walnuts. Who actually owns the tree is where the tree is located. If it's entirely within one person's property, that person owns the tree. If the tree straddles a property line and is on more than one property line, then both people own it. They both have a responsibility to maintain their part and also a responsibility to not harm the tree unreasonably being the tree as a whole. That would be called a boundary tree, right? Exactly, a boundary tree, yes. Okay, we'll talk more about boundary trees in just a moment. To what extent can the homeowner or the client that the tree is overhanging the fig tree, can they cut those branches back? They do have the right, if the branches are encroaching onto their property, coming over the property line, they have the right to cut the branch off with caveats. They cannot do overall or unreasonable damage to the tree as a whole. The best practice is to talk to the neighbor and say, hey, you want to get together on pruning this, or we could split the cost, or how do you feel about pruning it, and see where your neighbor stands, the neighbor being the owner of the tree. Either owner or the encroached upon neighbor can initiate that conversation because they both have an interest in this. The owner of the tree has an interest in the branch being pruned correctly, if at all, and that the tree overall is not harmed. The neighbor being encroached upon would like to get the encroachment out of there, but it's still got to be done correctly, and it still has to be done in a way that does not harm the tree overall unreasonably.

"It's impossible to find 6. Do you, Nathan? Yeah, I would tend to agree with you. I think the over under heading into the spring for auburn at a lot of betting sites was around 7 and a half. I might be the under at that right now, but you look at the non conference and this thing plays out pretty well, I think, for Q freezes. First season, of course, it's never going to be easy to go on the road in the power of 5, but you've got to think with auburn's talent level, even with a new coaching staff. That cowl game is one that they should win. Vanderbilt is a game. You should win. I know Clark Lee took a lot of strides for that program. Last season, and they feel like they're in a good place, moving forward, but auburn should always beat Vanderbilt. And then you mentioned bringing Mississippi state and all missed two Jordan hair stadium. I think that's really big. That's a big point on this schedule. Those are kind of the games I look at talking about what difference does a good quarterback? What difference does a B minus to a B plus offense? What difference does that make? Maybe it's beating somebody like Mississippi. When you wouldn't have previously. Maybe it's beating somebody like Arkansas on the road when you wouldn't have previously. So if you take the four non conference games, beat vandy on the road and you hold serve against just one of the Mississippi schools, that's 6 wins right there. And I think that's a really good baseline for this team to go off of. Obviously, that's not the expectation for auburn fans in the long run. They want to get back to the heights of the Gus era, competing for 9 wins, ten wins, competing for the division every year. I think they're in a good position to do that down the line, but with where this roster was at with how much of an overall hue freeze has had to do, both schematically and in terms of the numbers on the roster, I think, 7 wins would be a pretty big accomplishment would be two thumbs up for the steam next year, I think. Very doable. I think 7 now that you've described the calendar and the schedule, Nathan, thank you, Nathan king, joining us from auburn undercover fantastic job. There we need to head to the break here, more guests will be joining us shortly. We'll talk about LSU situation. They don't have a quarterback problem. Your phone calls as well. Guys, fellas, men. Do you want a better sex life? Of course you do. Sex releases endorphins. Feel good hormones that help to alleviate stress and a happy sex life can deepen your feelings of intimacy with

"Wasn't it standoffish in any way, I told him dick barthel was there. That's the one year that they had a one at home, one visitor agreement with North Carolina. Right. And they came down for that home grain, but great experience, he asked me, could he hide from Dick Vitale? I told him dick was a totally Dick Vitale was looking for when he came in the door. A quick story on Dean Smith. I only met him a couple of times, but he was in a regional in Birmingham in the 80s. And they were playing auburn, it was like a sweet 16. And I followed him out of the gym to ask him a couple of questions, and he lit up a cigarette. And he looked at me. I mean, I was a reporter. It wasn't like I was working for a local newspaper. And he asked me, as we finished the conversation, do you have to mention in the article that I was smoking a cigarette? By the way, I just found out, I mean, this guy is one of the most famous basketball coaches of all time, and he cared about his image enough that he didn't want anybody to know he was smoking. Well, on the same subject, I hang wimp Sanderson out to dry here, but he bummed a cigarette alpha me. BD's was an assistant coach back on her last quarter. But many days asked me, he said, has been around to Obama cigarette. And I said, no sir. I said no, not yet. And he said, well, it becomes around. You give him more. It don't matter. I buy you pack next time I sleep. That's correct. Yeah, wimp is one of the I mean, he's a Hall of Fame character. That's for sure. Absolutely. Absolutely. Hey, well, listen, it really great to hear from you, Mike. Thank you so much. We head to the break on a busy night where a lot of things have been going on all afternoon long. We had Mike Greenberg on at the beginning of the show. We had a dellinger. We talked Clark Lee of Vanderbilt and your phone calls the rest of the way.

"The Paul finebaum show podcast. How about football this weekend? Auburn in the afternoon in Vanderbilt, early evening. And speaking of the commodores, they are looking good. Offensive line returns a lot of players that have been part of Clark Lee's system for a couple of years. And with that, we welcome the head coach at Vanderbilt to the show. Coach has been too long. I hope you've had a, I know you haven't had an easy off season, but we hope you everything is going well. Good afternoon. Good afternoon to you, Paul. Yeah, I agree. I like our meeting on the beach. I think a little better. So let's do that again. But no, we've had a great off season here. We're having a lot of fun obviously finishing spring up this week and just been pleased with the winner and how this team is coming together. I think it feels good to be in year three. You know, it's been a long road to this point, but I feel like we're ready for a breakthrough moment and hopefully we can keep everything pointed towards that direction. Coach, I know that you've always had a mission and you've tried to condense some of the naysayers when people doubted where you were going, but it just seemed like last year there were a number of significant moments that we see, but you see more. What have you seen over these two years that helps reinforce your belief that this program is well on its way to really being something special? Well, I think as I say, it's the best program to be the best program in the country. Paul and we're not backing away from that. I know that kind of stuff takes time and I understand why it's hard. Sometimes for people to understand outside of our environment, what that means. But when I speak that way, I'm being true to the people in our environment that are with us every day helping to build this program. We've come a long way, but certainly we still have a long way left to go. That first year was painful, but formative and important. And we weren't going to be allowed to take shortcuts or make this somehow a quick rebuild. You know, we've had to take everything down and go from the studs up and we're just that I've got construction going on outside my office. I don't know if you can hear it, but the programs rebuild is just ahead of the construction here on facility, which is exciting. I felt like last year, it was a tough off season last year. We had some coaching turnover and obviously some natural player turnover with the COVID years and such that, you know, going through that as a coach for the first time was challenging for sure. And what I was what I learned through that experience was, you know, it's so important that the guys that are with you, staff, coaches, players, that they have alignment with the vision that I have for this program and that they're helping me every day to actualize this. This is not something that you can microwave. It step by step and it's a true process. I felt like we took strides last season. Obviously we were kind of waiting for that breakthrough moment though in conference. And we were able to find it at Kentucky there later in the season and then again against Florida here at home. And in those games, we saw flashes of the program that we want to build. Obviously, to then turn around at the end of the season and really be embarrassed by the way we compete it in that game against Tennessee. I think it's, again, the reality check that we still have a long way to go, but we started January 8th. This all season really talking very candidly and openly and specifically about where those strides need to be made and how we become a more authentic version of Vanderbilt football and true to an identity. And to the credit of this team, we've, I think, made a lot of strides along that path. And again, I'm excited to get through Saturday to kind of go into the next cycle of the season, but I want to just respect to my team and respect to the players here for what I think has been a really great all season for us. Coach you mentioned the Florida and Kentucky wins in it just seems from a distance remarkable. I remember watching both those games really shaking my head, especially the Kentucky game when it was such a stunning ending. We had somebody on the other day that covers Florida. And the writer, not to get you involved in stuff like this, but the writer was just hung up on that game saying that talk about progress for one school. And I realized that's part of where you want to go. So now that you've done some of those things, you mentioned the Tennessee game, the Georgia game was tough. How do you hate to keep putting pressure on you, but I will. How do you go from small, they aren't small building blocks or major building blocks to even bigger ones. Yeah, and I think it's important to point out that in order to close the margin on the best teams in our league, we have to also close the margin on the middle, the middle tier teams in our league, those teams that are bowl eligible right now that we want to be a part of that conversation. To me, Paul, I don't see our breakthrough here, is going to be both the closing of that ground

"And that was the one that convinced me. I've got to give Pelé ten. As you finish this project, I know how publishers are, I would assume there's room for more. Is that fair to say, or do you want to do this again? Meaning like a sequel. Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't redo the numbers again. If we do well with this, and they want to do a different sports book, it's going to come down to the same thing. I need a good enough idea. Like, this felt like a really good idea. I like it. I don't have the time in my schedule right now to sit and write. The sportsbooks I generally like to read are biographies. So I could write a biography of, I don't know, Joe Namath or Vince Lombardi or someone else who interests me. But I just don't have the time in my schedule to do that. Something like this, if I had another idea for this book, these lists, what I like about this one, Paul, and I hope that the readers will enjoy is that it is 100 short chapters. Each of the chapters is roughly 500 words. So between two and three pages. So you can sit down and just read a couple of them any time you want. And that was hopefully it's very easy to read and it was comparatively very easy to write. So if I have another idea like that, I would definitely do it again because I enjoyed it and I enjoy the process of promoting it. But I need the idea. And it took me a really long time to come up with this one. So I have no idea how long it will take me to come up with another. Well, for those who don't know, greeny is a great novelist as well. The name of this book is got your number, the greatest sports legends and the numbers they own. Mike Greenberg, what a pleasure to have you on here and I hope to see you very soon, Mike. Well, Paul, thank you for having me and for helping me get the word out about this and I miss you. It's been too long since you have called me an idiot on get up or any of the fun that we have. We need some college football news. And I am hoping that we will have some soon and if not, then I certainly look forward to the end of the summer when we start doing this again regularly. So thank you, Paul. Thanks, Amelia. Can't wait. My Greenberg, nice enough to join us here at the beginning of our program. We're not done yet. We're only beginning and we have Clark Lee on in about an hour. He is the Vanderbilt head coach where there's spring game in dellinger, as I mentioned, a lot of big news coming out today on the NCAA. "They're loaded there. He's a guy who's probably going to get some reps and get a chance to. I still like Georgia coming out of the SEC as a guaranteed layoff thing. Brad, before you go, I mean, there's so many intriguing matchups. There's just so much to unpack. On the final day of February, but we've talked about the Alabama situation, the Georgia situation. Give us someone to pay closer attention to. Who are we ignoring right? Or maybe not ignoring, but maybe not giving enough attention that could, I don't know, maybe be that Tennessee, be that surprise team that give us give us some inside dope here. Yeah, I think depending on how The O.C. works out for Shane beamer at South Carolina, the gamecocks are a team that could possibly go even better than last year's 8 and 5 finish, lost another name in that bowl game. Look, this is a team that really didn't have any kind of offense for two and a half months. Then they scored 63 points on Tennessee beating a top 5 balls team. Beat Clemson on the road to end Davos 39 game home winning strength on this in the country. And now Shane beamer is let's face it ahead of schedule heading into year three. He got Spencer Rattler back through NIL. He got juiced wells to return a guy who's probably going to have a thousand yards 15 touchdowns type receiver as wide receiver one. The biggest question for me for South Carolina is can they withstand that early September schedule? They're going to go to Georgia as an early huge game for both teams and spends a rattler can't have another situation where through 8 weeks of the season, he's just a Ho home quarterback. If the gamecocks want to be a team that legitimately contends in the SEC has to be the former 5 star that he showed at Oklahoma. So I think South Carolina is capable, but still some questions there. And Brad, who are you most worried about in the SEC? I'm most worried about Missouri. Quarterback situations up in the air right now. I know drink was just got an extension last season. That was kind of puzzling to me, but you look Paul, it's one of the SEC toughest schedules and Missouri has a chance to be an underdog and probably 6 to 8 SEC games. They have a very tough non conference schedule includes big 12 champion Kansas state. They have to play Memphis on the road, another tough game. Middle Tennessee. I mean, Missouri Milton AC last season went into Miami and score almost 50 on the canes and won that game. So drink was a guy that I think has to put together on both sides of the ball a respectable team this season and I kind of have that SEC opener at Vanderbilt circle because if Andy wins that game in Nashville and build on last season's late season momentum Vanderbilt team that maybe gets to both season and Clark Lee's third campaign. We're right. They have some home games that they have to win and that's a really interesting point and those road games, they all look treacherous. Hey, thank you so much, Fred. It's a pleasure to have you on. As always, we look forward to seeing you soon. And come back. Yes, thanks, Paul. God bless man. You bet. So what a great fantastic guest there, Brad, Crawford. We take a break, much more to come, right after this. This week on life out loud. It's

"It out of the rafters baby out of the rafters. He also has my five month old son dressed in Notre Dame gear from head to toe since, like The moment he woke up. It's called dressing like a champion. The play like a champion sign that we had to hang last year before the college football playoff has not been busted out yet, But something tells me that it will be before dinner time. I just needed to set the scene for you people. What is going on in our household? Right now? This is Game day on ESPN Radio ESPN APP series except Channel 80 were presented by progressive insurance. Guests join us on the Goodyear hotline. It's time for straight talk brought to you by straight talk Wireless. I'm going to kind of lay out here and let my husband go because this is what he does. Florida State and Notre Dame are going at it tonight. Irish are favored by seven. Let's just call this what it is Florida State with two and six last season, Okay? Two and six. The last time we saw Andy was in the college football playoff yet Still, this feels kind of like a quote unquote marquee matchup, especially since the did not have a good showing over the weekend. So who's going to save face? Is it gonna be floated state or is it going to be Notre Dame who's like one toe is in the A. C C. Alright, let's lay this whole thing now, Okay, Irish or seven point favorites, which makes the Florida State Seminoles home dogs. Let's start with concerns for the Irish and this one. The Irish returned 55% of its production from a year ago. That is good for fifth worst returning production in all of the F B s. That's a concern another concern for the Irish five offensive lineman being replaced for that team. Big concern there. Also the first time the Irish are playing under center with a guy not named Ian Book in Jack Cone from Wisconsin who doesn't scream superstar to me. Another concern for the Irish the guy You never want to fight in the bar, the one with nothing to lose. That is Florida State. They're expected to lose this game. Another massive concern. It's on the road and oh, by the way, the legendary Bobby Bowden will be honored as he passed away within these last couple months, so emotions will be running high there in Tallahassee. Another massive concern here. So now that I've laid those out, let's talk about why we should like the Irish here and we start defensively. The Irish have been elite on the defensive side of things. Clark Lee has moved on to Vanderbilt insert Marcus Freeman, the best offensive coordinator in all of college football season ago who was running that defensive scheme is the coordinator defensively. For the bear Cats a year ago. He likes to run that 335 scheme. It's heavy on the blitz, getting away from what the Irish did in that 4 to 5 package a year ago, which means he's going to bring the heat early. And often pressure we've seen in the first weekend of college football has one you get to the quarterback, you'll have success Florida State's offensive line. Poorest Florida state is not acknowledge who their starting quarterback is going to be. This season is a Jordan Travis is that Mackenzie Milne? Either way they're going to be frenzied all game long, the most talented two players on the field in this game the running back for Notre Dame Kyron Williams, that offensive line. If it shows up, he can break a few big ones. They might only need two scores to win a game like this. Kyle Hamilton is the second most talented player. He, too, is in a Notre Dame uniform in that secondary. You win the turnover battle. You've got another great shot. Ultimately, it's Notre Dame. They've been established. They have pieces who would play in those big games? Florida state's heavy on transfers. It's a rebuild from Mike Norville. I expect chaos for that team. When it gets loud. I don't care if Notre Dame's a road team They played in these big games together, and they should go out there and be able to make things happen. Also for Jack Cone. If you get in those spots where it's turbulent, you don't have a lot of playmakers on the outside who are established, but you have one of the best tight into the country that people don't seem to know about yet. And Michel mayor. He should be that release valve to alleviate some of that pressure. If Notre Dame makes some of those big time plays with that backfield, that tight end and that defense carries its weight is they're expected to Notre Dame should not only when. Most importantly, the cornet household, Notre Dame should cover those seven points. That's what I was gonna ask you. Okay? I want to stay on something with Florida State here that you mentioned, but I feel like we should talk a little more about Florida State quarterback Mackenzie Milton could be making his return to the field tonight following an absolutely gruesome injury that he had in 2018 to his leg when he played at UCF. Before that injury Milton through for 8683 yards, he had 72 touchdowns and 22 interceptions from 2016 to 2018 with the nights he is listed as a co starter. As Jay said, We don't know who's starting at for Florida State on the depth chart along with Jordan, Travis, We don't know what Mackenzie Milton could be. Should he start right tonight for spent three years it's been a long time. I mean, People come and go through college and the amount of time that he has spent at these two schools. And so that surprise factor of whom Mackenzie Mountain could be. I laid out the numbers here. He was a very good quarterback when he was healthy. He's one of the best in the country. What does that mean for Notre Dame, though in their defense like you better be on your toes? You don't know who's going to start Nick McKenzie millions in there. You really don't know what's making your looking at tape from three years ago, but ultimately early on in the college football season to all my people who enjoy the game of chance out there. You always want to look up front in the trenches. Who can win in the trenches. Well, Notre Dame is offensive line you whether it's their retooling an entire offense line. That's fine. Florida State's offensive line has been horrible the last few seasons, and there's no reason to be certain that it should take a turn in this one so of Notre Dame with their defensive coordinator, Marcus Freeman, applies that pressure. McKenzie Milton, a guy who hasn't played in three years. It's not nearly as mobile as he used to be, could have issue Then you look at Jordan Travis, who is the more mobile of the two Florida state quarterback. He may be able to evade some of that pressure, step up, make plays with his feet or find an open target if I'm Florida State, knowing what those two quarterbacks present I'm Mike. Normal. I'm using a healthy dose of both to try and disrupt with Marcus Freeman's defense because he's going to try to do for the Irish. Okay, So let's look at this from a bigger perspective, because we've talked a lot about the A. C. C and their struggles and opening weekend. The only 11 W we have is from Virginia Tech who beat North Carolina, which was an A C C, T. And so again, we know what Notre Dame is..

"Prescott Tweets. Fantastic Interviewer Clark Lee, Get him on the podcast. That interview could have gone on for the rest of the hour. Oh, easily. The thing about that is there was so many things. That we had our research that I want to talk to him about that. I just didn't have time for because he kept saying really interesting things where I would just follow him up like I didn't need questions. You know, there's some podcast. My podcast generally runs about 45 minutes in length. Try and be super respectful of the people and the time they commit, and I've noticed that you know, unless it's a really different sort of guessed they tend to store sort of drift after 30 40 45 minutes. Some are I mean, someone I cut some. It's 60, that would go 90. But I've noticed that others are really good. And then right around 30 minutes a little bit after they start to count, Look at their watch. Then there's some other people who do podcast that I hold in really high regard. They do like to our podcast 2.5 hour podcast three hour podcast. They had always gonna blow my mind. That guest right there. I could do three hours with easily be fascinated the whole time. Out about all of you. The rest of you. I personally was fascinated by the man personally and his journey so I could have done that. You're right, not only through the hour, but for two hours or more. "Certainty in the home buying process. With alone that fits your life Rocket can Thanks to Jordan Palmer. Cell phone number is 18006368686 3rd and final hour lots to get to plenty of opportunities to get through. But I want to start this hour by having a conversation with the head football coach at Vanderbilt. He was named common, always head coach. In December, He served as Notre Dame's defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2020, a Broyles Award nominee. He played college baseball and football. Both Vandy coming off and Owen nine season we are joined by Clark Lee Clark is so good of you on the show. How are you? Well, listen, it's It's always been a dream of mine to be on the jungle. So I'm like, I couldn't be more excited about this. And this. I appreciate you saying that I don't know about a dream, but it's great to have you on and I personally been looking for this is well because well, for a number of reasons, Number one. This is a big Tim Corbin house, and I know you go way back with him before we get to that, though you were named head coach back in December. But you also stayed on the Notre Dame during the college football playoff. Some curious one of the last two months been like for you. Well, as you can imagine. I mean, it's been just nonstop world wind. I think you know it was important for me, Uh, Just just to complete my journey and Notre Dame. I would that everyone They're owed that to myself, too. You know, that was four. Like just really special years for me, and I'm I'm so grateful for that time. Ondo. So just balancing, you know, the really what was going toe come come here with opportunity here once I've finished and knowing that there needs to be a little ground work made there. Just so that we could have a foundation for for when the time came for me to make a transition. Um, you know, kind of doing that in the corners of the day, but spending the bulk of my time focused on, um You know, preparing for Clemson in the A C title game, and then you know, obviously preparing for Alabama in the playoffs. Two offenses that Needed a lot of attention. You know, for me it was it was disappointed, not finished the way that we wanted to finish. But like, you know, in hindsight, just the four years of better dame just such an incredible time for me and so, so great before Vanderbilt head football coach Clark Lee is joining us. You know, you mentioned journey That's the best word because we go back. Your journey to this point is pretty remarkable friend sent you from Nashville. He went to Montgomery Bell Academy. Then you went to Birmingham Southern College. You play baseball, and we're part of a team that won the world Syriza's. Then you transfer to Belmont. So at that point, how would you describe your life and your focus? Good. Well, you've you've you've done you've done your research. That is that is the journey exactly as it happened. And for me, you know my time at Montgomery Bell Academy was formed of that was the time where You know, I was kind of thrown into an environment where you know nothing was given everything had to be earned and You know, I waited a couple seasons took to play there. Um Just had coaches that built into my life. I mean that that, you know, I don't know that I maximize that opportunity for what I could have physically on the academic side, but I learned a lot there that they're really gay gave me the foundation toe have success in college and then To be honest with you, Jim. You know when I went toe to college to play baseball You know, I had in my mind that my mark in the world will soon be left is the professional baseball player and, um, you know, that was obviously everyone bets on themselves early on, and I was there was some You know, I was naive at that point, but I That was my goal. That was my intention. And when I got the Birmingham Southern, we had great team success. It was incredible. Season. I just I wasn't You know, I wasn't finding personal success on the field, and I felt like I needed to redirect. And that that delivered me to Belmont. You know, it kind of came back home, and I was paired up with Dave Jarvis, Who's that coach there still, and he was just a guy that recruited me out of high school that I felt like That would be a great place that, you know. Get back after this, Um, pursuing this Major league baseball career, And so that's kind of want to hit my second wall. We're talking a car police. So you get that second wall I'm gonna get the expectation was I'm gonna be a pro baseball player. But then you get an opportunity to join the Vanderbilt football team is a walk on fullback. How did that come to be? Well again. It was not glamorous. I, um So as I realized how 11 thing to point out, Jim is that I hit 400 is a sophomore at Belmont. But that was two for five for the season. So, uh, no one can take that away from me. 404 100. Hasn't exactly right. But no. You know, I just I miss football. I wanted to get the honestly. You know, I was kind of came to grips with the fact that like you know this, you know baseball was going to be my ticket. I wanted to be a successful I could be. And like, and I wanted to get the best possible university I could get into and then play football. You know, like I just I knew that You know, Athletics has always been an edgy part of my education, and I feel like For me. That was that was going to make my collegiate experience hole. And it just so happened that as I was kind of looking for these opportunities, Bobby Johnson got the position years head coach and really the program was. It was in a point time where they were looking for..

"I mean, I kind of every week continued to be blown away, even though I'm pulling for him, and I believe that it could happen, but still to see it on Big games, too. It's not like you beat up on the bad teams and struggled first, the good ones. He beat up on everybody and I just that you could kind of see all the pieces if you're around him. He's funny. He's as funny of a quarterback as we have in this league and as much fun to hang out with as we have any quarterback in this league But also the greatness that he sees in himself the confidence it was just cool to see all those things come together on top of, you know, mechanically and accuracy and Just goes to show you if you go to an organization and what brain and being the general manager's done there. On Brian Table on offense, and Ken Dorsey, his quarterback coach. It's the sum of all these parts and, yeah, we can talk about Stefan digs, but the reality is that they were really good last year, too, and they just continued to build around this young player. On support him in a way where I actually think you know, we look at Kansas City and we look at some of these. These teams that have laid out the blueprint for how toe You know, drafted build around quarterback and Brandon Bean and Sean McDermott and the pool of family. I think they've kind of reset the bar in terms of what is building around a young quarterback supposed to look like I think it's supposed to look like what they just didn't Buffalo to implement. Joining me for a couple of more moments. I gotta ask you to order. What do you make of how Tom Brady played in the Super Bowl and over the course of the season? Well, there's something kind of cool, but I'm seeing with my eye on Tom Brady. Right now. That's not really talked about. So this class football season. I've got a guy I work with. You just focuses on the biomechanics and the movement side of things and My right hand man with coaching quarterbacks, and they gave him a study. I said, Find me the top couple movers in the league meeting the guys who moved the most efficiently. No wasted movement. When they lean or cut or plant they don't get outside of their hips. Stay within their hips and, ironically, that the guys that we identified as the two best movers in the league or Cuyler Murray and Tom Brady, and how ironic is that? That's wild 5 11 and arguably the best athlete in the league at the position outside of maybe Lamar. Then the other guys 43 years old, and I don't know you could make the argument. Body Wise is in the least the bottom. Couple athletes in the league at the position, but his what he's done with his team and Alex Guerrero and all these guys is he's just become one of the most efficient movers. And that's before we start talking about throwing in the mental side of the game and clutching all that stuff, So I just think that he hasn't just relied on his strength he's turned are arguably his biggest weakness. Into a strength that is such that I've identified him as one of the top two movers in the league, whatever that means, so he's just gotten more efficient. He's gotten. It looks like he's got more athletic, but he's just gotten more efficient. Then you find out afterwards. You need surgery after the game. You're like man that's on top of the knee injury, So I just think it's fascinating. We have the timers time conversation, all that, but the reality is that he has continued to move better. Grow better and no better and and he finally got toe parrot together in a new spot with him. No in all sorts team around him, and it doesn't It doesn't look like someone year deal to me. "Think Urban's really well set up for that. Bringing in guys like Darryl Bevel on offense. Brian Schottenheimer is the past game coordinator. This is a lot of mind that I've worked with a lot of young players and had a lot of success, and you know, in urban everywhere he's been he's won. I know we all remember that he wanted Ohio State that he wanted Florida but he wanted bowling green, and he wanted Utah in a way that those two programs have number one cent. So I just feel like it can work there and with Trevor and cap space and picks and all that, Um, I don't know I'm about somebody's excited for this opportunity is one of the guys I've worked with you is, you know, a first round pick, but he's excited for this opportunity is I've been about about anybody's Palmer, My guest woman thought about that he he did throw on Friday, but he's gonna need surgery on that left shoulder for those who do not know what does the surgery address? And how does that impact the way you work with him in the coming months? Well, you know the whole value and bumping the pro day up was so that he can go ahead and have surgery now, so e think it's and I'm not. This is not my world, but I think it's about a two month deal. Um it's a very standard procedure. I mean, the kind of deal with the surgeon who does it did three more this morning, right before you, you know. And, um So it's a very standard deal. It's got a great plan from physical therapy standpoint, we're so the guy named Drew Drew Marcos that motives who's probably the best physical therapist in the country will be doing all that and So it's really not a big deal. He just has to go through and follow the guidelines. We shall do and he'll be back back, throwing here in a couple months, and he'll be ready well before the season starts and have plenty of timeto. To get his body and everything under control and where he wants it to be for the start of the season. We're talking Jordan Palmer. Sure. What about Josh Allen? He had a breakout year this year as somebody who has worked with him in the past and on a personal level. What was it like to see him take such an enormous step forward this year. Well, I mean, I've got used to work with a lot of guys and you know you put yourself into him. You hope for the best and to be honest with you challenge me to watch him take that step this early. Um, I mean, I kind of every week continued to be blown away, even though I'm pulling for him, and I believe that it could happen, but still to see it on Big games, too. "A candy asked for old trapper by name, because no other jerky compares old trapper. What is your beef? Coming up the top of the hour, the head football coach at Vanderbilt Clark Lee has promised right now we're joined by former NFL quarterback He is a quarterback consultant. He's founder of QB Summit players that he has worked with. Includes. Shawn Watson, Patrick Mahomes, Sam Donald, Josh Allen drew lock job, Earl. This year's class includes Trevor Laurence. Grady White and Steve Buechele. We're joined by Jordan Palmer, Jordan. Great to have you back. How are you? I'm doing great. How you doing? Good, Good. Jordan. Great to visit with you. Let me start by asking you about Trevor Laurence because he threw on Friday Jordan and from people who talk about the legal cover the league. It seems like he's the biggest lock is a first round pick for the first pickle roll in a long, long time. If he didn't have to throw and he didn't. Why did he and what's that say about him? Well, I think the biggest thing with Trevor is Um, you know he's got and it's pretty binary. You're either or on this. Where you either go through this process and you try and do it exactly the way that everybody advises you and what you think is perfect and don't slip up. That's one way to go through this process and send some guys go through this process and say I got nothing to hide. Give me a ball. Let me play. Andre, for example. I mean, my brother Carson Palmer was he was a lock to go Number one, and he played in the Senior bowl and through and ran at the combine. Because that mind set of well, I mean, everyone else is doing it. I've got nothing to hide. Give me a ball, and Trevor certainly has the same mentality. So it was never an issue is never a conversation. He was said. Yeah, let's do it. Let's do a full pro day. Whenever it makes sense for everybody to do it. I'll be ready to go and he showed up. He was respected, in fact, in terms of how he showed up. What do you make of how he looked on Friday? And what did he show everybody? Well, I think you look great. Um, you know, he's only been really throwing coming off of this last season for Ah, a couple of weeks and you know with him and in last year with Joe Burrow having the national championship and everything I think it's important for these guys. You were the face of college football to take a little bit of time away before they start going here And really with Trevor. You know his season. It didn't start when everyone else is did. Trevor led the Let us played movement early this year. Right and then social injustice. You use this platform to be involved in that so even when they weren't playing games Trevor Laurence was on and this has been a lot a lot in one year. And on top of it, just being the crazy year that we've all experienced, and so he took a little bit of time away and then came back into it. And so it really for a couple of weeks. New footwork, New ball knew everything. Um, I think he showed that you can throw him in a in a weird situation, and he's just gonna be Home and steady ID and poised, and, um, you know, if if, if he if he would have gone through the process any differently, Um then I don't think it would have been true to who he is. And so I think you showed that he can spin. It doesn't matter how I knew the footwork is or what The situation is. He's going to be poison under control and And doesn't matter how many eyeballs are on him. He's gonna be ready to rock. We're talking to Ron Palmer really interesting, So he's coming off one of the all time Great college career is, But as you've pointed out, the transition to the NFL is the challenge for every single quarterback. So what are the things that he's going to experience both on field and off the field in the NFL that he has not experienced in college? Well, honestly, Jim, I think he's different than a lot of guys in that. Might he goes to Jacksonville? I actually think the sum like the adding up all the pieces, the sum of the entire experience the media the pressure all the expectations. I actually think that some of it will be Kind of equal to what it was and maybe even feel smaller, because not because he came from Clemson. But because he's been kind of the face of college football for a few years now and the expectations and the media and the way that the SEC is set up. We're being so top heavy where you know they kind of they beat up on a bunch of teams, and then they get a couple games here where you just have to win all of them. It's so set up that way, like in the NFL, if you go 10 and six It's a pretty good year. You're gonna make the playoffs. When you're at Clemson, You can't lose a game. And so I think a lot of that where every game matters and then being the face of college football and all the media that comes with that, because it's national media there, I actually think when he transitions Some elements of it are going to be even in the same or easier, And so I loved all the experience he's had coming at being, you know, the one of the most highly recruited kids ever. All the eyeballs and the target on his back and all that stuff the last 45 years. I actually think The All of that is going to make his transition easier and no doubt there's gonna be a bunch of new stuff for him like there is for anybody going from college to pro, but I actually think he's better position to handle all of it than a lot of guys I've worked with in the past. Not because he's better or worse, just because he's had so many reps that air relevant, But I think it's going to really help with his transition. And because Jordan has been in the spotlight literally forever since he was roughly 15 years old. What about one more thought about Jacksonville? Specifically, what do you make of the fit with urban Meyer specifically and what Meyer did with offenses in college? How do you like that Fit? I love it. I'll tell you what just kind of Seeing the way that things coming together and No urban is he's in college is hard on the coaches, but the players love him. I think that transition works in the league when they're when coaches would go from college. Your poem blossoms. They're overly hard on players and bring that college mentality. Sometimes we hear that doesn't work as well..

"Can Jordan Palmer is going to join me. A 40 passed. Then the top the third hour we go to Vanderbilt head football coach Clark Lee. Any time you can call the program. Phone lines are open. 1 806 368686 again. I might not cover what you want to talk about. So you can go ahead and Affect the conversation set the agenda. You know, oftentimes, like not often times, But every single day I come in here with an idea where I want to go with it What I want to talk about, But I will follow the show, too. So if you bring something to it, and you want, take it and give a direction that I was not going to do or go in. Do that file means Effect ahead. Affect the head. How the man you quick, dude. 18006368686. All right. So remember when I said on Friday there was no way a Super Bowl blowout was gonna jump the weekend and make news for the eighth straight day. Itwas and use a phrase you want. It was a hospital job. It was a curb stomping. It was a beat down. There's no reason why we would still be talking about this a year or I should say a week later. And I pretty much promised it. I said I have no idea why we're still doing this. But believe me, we're not doing this eight straight days. You have my word. Well, I lied. I did. I lied. Take a big dump in your parents, Alvey. I did lie so in the spirit of that Hallmark holiday that came and went yesterday. Think of something or somebody you love more than anything in the world. Right thing about that. And then hold on to that If I were to say to you give me the one thing or the one person you love more than anything in the world. What would that be? You have that person or that thing in your head? Hold it there. Now understand this, Whatever that person or that thing is, you don't love that person. Or that thing half assed, much as the rain gross. Loves the Lombardi Trophy. Leave me. Leave me and believe that And I will get further into that a minute now did I also not say that for the right call, I'll bust open the format. For the right call. I'll stop doing what I'm doing. And I will and I can back it up. Because generally this guy is making the right call. So save that thought on why that woman loves the Lombardi Trophy more than you love anybody or anything at all. So I get this in. It's gonna southeastern Wisconsin. Chris, what's going on? Chris? How are you? I'm good. Hey, Jim. I'm really glad you kicked off the show with some octagon beef between Luis minimized the doll. I think we have something we could get scheduled and settled much quicker. Once appeared to be a well oiled machine and cohesive unit. Now seems to be infiltrated by fame. Tell ISI and Eagle. From my vantage point. The broads behind the glass all seem to be pretty solid guys. That sometimes it's human nature that sudden, unexpected success. Caused jealousy and infighting. And in this case, the bigger the head. Bigger the eagle. All the Exxon 40 I dudes currently have a side hustle. The exception of rich I believe whatever Social Security Benny's cut If you work more than Thursday's for Alvin, I know you don't pay him for the other four days, considering he sits in the bleacher seats. Place the air drums coming in and out of break. I'm assuming those days are volunteer hours. Although Hawk is a great dude, I'm sure is occasional over the top hipster guy. Look, Mister Rogers cardigans, fad diets, etcetera. What annoys colleagues at times It appears James Kelly is feeling himself just a little too much. Flight or goes on a heater for a few months. Parlay that into his own segment every week and suddenly cops this enormous eagle and treat talk like total horse, please. James has not called Hawk out numerous times. He doesn't like him and want to give him the hands. So let's do this. Get them in the jungle Act again. My coin is on Hawk all day. He's a lock. I would bet my crib and luxury sled on the pitch. His opponent that when greeny armed gambler that works one day a week has zero chance. Imagine Hawk stepping into the ring, co sponsored by Sports Apparel Kingpin Nation Golf Company and probably some start up wizard Cabbage delivery service. In the other corner is the deck with south Point Sports books scribbled in enormous letters on his forehead. Once the bell rings and they touch gloves. It wouldn't be long before Adam would take James straight to the mat and work his ground and pound game, knocking the living snot out of flight deck. Herb Dean would be forced to step in and stop the bout. Lastly, Kron's mark my words. Own the decks. Heater will end as fast as it started. Jump off the train now and start going apple. Everybody knows the house always wins. It's not a matter of if just a matter of when and when that happens. Big head. That segment will be jettisoned faster than belief through a goose. Or the undercounted being Matt in L A is a heavy favorite. I got him at minus 2 80 money line. The future. Callie Governor, Silk and sin. It's a dynasty clone..

"There is no team that you know better position to really push your perimeter defense more than the Brooklyn Nets. I mean, these guys score from every single spot, and it's amazing. The impact of those three stars have had on all of their role players. I mean, Jeff Green looks revitalized. He had a great game against Golden State. DeAndre Jordan Absolutely is looking more effective on offense since this James Harden trade then before the James Harden trade because he just gets the feast on these easy pick and roll dunks, and their shooters are so open all the time ship. I mean, guys like Joe Harris, are you eating good, real good. They just fit in So nice around the Brooklyn star. So to me, I'm taking Brooklyn in the East. And I do think they probably have a move or two to make by the deadline just to shore up that playoff rotation and get it right. And I think they will. Then golfer is joining us. So Ben Mask about the mellow ball 28 games in he's averaging 15 6 and six What do you make of what you've seen from him so far? Well, definitely better than I expected. Anybody who tells you different line, you know, I think there was a lot of skepticism or a lot of let's see it on the NBA court first, remember, he hadn't played basketball for basically a year before he actually got to join the Charlotte Hornets. You know, just because of, you know, called it and his stint in Australia and everything else, So there was a real question around the league about okay. What exactly is this guy going to be able to do? On top of that you needed to know how many compromises was he gonna have to make with his style of play? Everybody saw those videos and high school. He's shooting from half court throwing these crazy passes. Is he really going to be locking, you know, able to lock in focus on play, You know, NBA quality to away basketball. I actually think that the style of play this year has played to his benefit overall in the N B. A. You're seeing lots and lots of high scoring games. Lots of loose just attacked the basket type style from different teams. I think apart because you know, these guys are playing so many games in such a short time period. We're not exactly getting a lot of defense of grinders out there. You know, It's a lot of shoot outs in the night tonight basis, so that helped set him up for success. But so much of what he does well has translated. His shot has actually looks better than I expected, which opens up everything for him on offense. He's an unbelievable highlight level pasture. People have seen that in the open court on the lobs, but even the half court too. I mean, he just has a really nice touch. He knows how to wait the ball. He knows how to slide it through multiple defenders, and he makes pretty good decisions for a player as young as he is. No. Charlotte has been looking for an identity for a long time. I mean, they really haven't. I mean, even with Kemba Walker there a few years ago, it really wasn't that type of name that type of presence that would put them on the national stage. I think if you're coming around to next year, and you're circling some of those big national TV days, maybe not Christmas, you know, But you know, maybe some early week opening week Action or Martin Luther King Jr Day or something. Other MBA holidays. They like to highlight. I wouldn't be surprised at all. If LEM L A Ball has the Charlotte Hornets on games like that golfer joining us, Ben one more topic before I lose. You Look at the East. The Celtics start 500. You raised the question on the open floor podcast. But do you think they're kicking themselves for not keeping Gordon Hayward? Well, I think you got asked this second guessing type questions right now has anything gone well for them this season? It's just been one thing after another. You know, I've been hearing from Celtics fans always ask him like, what are you most frustrated about? Some will say, you know, Tristan Thompson wasn't exactly what we thought we were getting. You know, the idea of Tristan Thompson coming over in the off season to help out the front court wasn't quite as as good as what they had hoped. I think some other people would say, Well, you know Gordon Hayward. It was a weird fit. But you know, now that we've had all these injuries or guys air in and out of the lineup, or maybe Jason Tatum misses a little time for the health protocols. All the sudden, you really miss Ah, Player and Gordon Hayward, who you thought maybe was expendable. Previously, I think some other people would point the finger at Campbell Walker and say this season coming back off of any issue. He just hasn't been the same guy and their entire formulas, relying upon him being like a star level player in the backcourt. Get it done. So I'm seeing a lot of panic. A lot of frustration from the Celtics fans, especially because there are 500 right now, they just take a loss of the Washington Wizards. I mean, that will make you look in the mirror and start to ask the big questions. Jim. I will say this The number one thing I see missing from the Celtics lately. It's Marcus Smart. I mean, I know this guy is not like a top 10 top 15 level player, but they are so much better when he's on the court. He does all the little things winning players like the Celtics fans like to call it, but he also covers up for so many of his teammates. Mistake's. He's just so good and unselfish at doing that. And you know to me, I think what they can get him back from this leg injury. Things will look different, but I do think coming into this season. I expected Boston to kind of owned the Eastern Conference to me. The Brooklyn Nets took that away from them with the James Harden trade, and now they're sort of left in this spot. Well, are we true contenders? Are we just hoping to be contenders do we have to play for next year? Those kinds of existential questions. They weren't expecting that this year, you know, coming off of the Eastern Conference finals, and so I do kind of put Boston in that category. One of the biggest disappointment to the league Franklin right. He is a national NBA writer for The Washington Post, the author of Bubble Ball. You Want To Look for that? It's coming Out May host of Grace of all Talking MBA Show host of Open floor Podcast, Ben Gulliver Band. Great to get Caught Up with you. Thanks so much for doing that. I don't do it again soon. Now we're open until 10 40. 10 41 40 Jordan Palmer joins me at that time He is the founder of QB summit working with Trevor, Laurence and others that's coming up. In fact, we'll go back to back at that part of the program, so this is the best time to get through. Jordan Palmer, then Clark Lee topped the third hour between now and then lots to get to. It's kind of a harsh thing to call somebody a loser, but The rain. Gross is acting like a loser. We heard that from bread Brown before he was let go. We heard that from jail and be himself and you look at Brooklyn's perimeter firepower. There is no team that you know.
