"I know the Tennessee game is pretty much what everybody's talking about. But and we've obsessed over one other coach in the SEC. But I want to ask you because Friday night's going to be really big in Florida. And if FSU wins the game, they're favored at home against Florida Spencer. What do we make out of this maiden voyage from Billy Napier? Well, either that he's right or he's wrong. And I think that depends on whether you are a generous charitable person who wants to give credit to a first year coach, okay? I'm a Florida fan. We have no charity. I will just speak for the family. It's a tough fan base with very little loyalty or love for anybody who has not putting up ten wins a year, which has been very few people in the past ten years at Florida. That said, Napier head of the season did his best. His level best to temper expectations. Promised nothing, said, y'all need to calm down. After the Utah win to open the season. Y'all need to calm down. It's one thing at a time. So in a sense he's innocent. No, nobody. Of course not. Of course not. Especially when you have Anthony Richardson, who is a developing player who at times is capable of taking your expectations as high as you want to and beyond. And then in the next game, we'll regress and show that he is a developing player and will struggle with a lot of the things that developing players struggle with, right? Reading defenses, knowing when to run, when to pass, he's not ready to carry the team, and I don't think the team is ready for prime time. That's been the entire season. So in a sense, he was right. Is he going to get that kind of benefit of the doubt from the Florida fan base? No. No, it's an impatient fan base that's used to, you know, or that in their head believes this is a ten win program in anything less than that is a fall off. Is that accurate? No. Is that what they feel? I'm pretty sure, yeah. I think people want linear progress. Yeah. I think football is something that also particularly generates linear progress, right? Winds start to get wins, week after week after week of the week. Florida has that big win week one, and you think, well, hell. But obviously then, the season is in bits and starts and bounces around. And you looked okay in a comeback against Tennessee and then but you lost the game. And so there hasn't been a real consistent narrative beyond inconsistency for Florida this season. Utah game aside. And you're going to have to live with that. You're going to have to deal with that. You have a really great game against South Carolina, and then you come out and you immediately tank against vandy. That that to me, it's a bitter loss. It's a disappointing one. It's an ugly one, but the thing that hurts most is that you didn't build off that wind and then get it done. Even if you had a bad game, you didn't get it done against an opponent that you buy all rights should beat ten out of ten times. More, this type of conversation straight ahead, what not straight ahead. But an hour and 12 minutes away. 15 minutes away. Anything good on a show tonight. He's not so. We're packed full of guests today. We had so many good guys. We have Clark Lee of those victorious Vanderbilt commodores. We have Shane beamer. We've got Paul fine bomb, man. We've got poll 5 balls on the show. One more just one need. So I gotta stick around, talk more to you guys. I may try to change clothes. I feel overdressed. No, pinstripes is your version of a someone's got a class up that studio, man. Guys, can't wait to see you later. Thinking out loud, straight ahead. 7 p.m. Eastern Time. I don't know what it is, and Qatar. You were listening to the Paul fine bomb show podcast. And welcome back here. Late on a Monday. Let's get back to the calls and Sam is up next in Mississippi. Hey, Sam. Hey, Paul, how are you doing, man? We were doing great. Thank you. I am glad to hear it. Well, I was informed that you ran into my mother at the hotel in Oxford during Alabama week, man. Well, I do remember that. Yes. I can't believe she told you. Man, that made her a weekend, man, so I was glad. Now that was really cool. You got a great mom. I know you probably already know that. Absolutely, man. She's a special woman, man. So I've been very blessed, but man, I don't know, Paul after, you know, my rebels took a thrashing this weekend, man, I got into some interesting conversations with some close friends of mod and we were just kind of spitballing and a couple topics popped up like what was Kevin's biggest win at all miss? I think that one thing you can probably agree with is the SEC is more down this year and last year than it has been in quite some time, man, and I just, I don't know, it's hard to see what his biggest win is at almost. I mean, at Tennessee last year, biggest road win as well. But then there's really, there's not much there to. Yeah, no, I think you're right. That was a win for that was a big win for a lot of reasons. Well, I mean, I will answer you Thursday night and should he win the game, I think his three wins at mister B state are going to really be his shining moment because that's not easy. He hasn't done it yet, but that's a very significant accomplishment if you're the all miss coach. Absolutely. Even though these are not great, mister beats a teams, but it does matter a lot in that state. So I think for that reason, should he lose the game, you and others may help him move. But, you know, I think what he's real. I think last year though, you have to look at the sum of the total and getting to ten wins was a big moment getting to the sugar bowl was significant. But no, he hasn't beaten Alabama. We know that. That's a huge deal. The LSU loss this year was pretty devastating, especially the way the game got away from L issue. Got away from all this, but ultimately he's resurrected the program. Let's not forget it was pretty far down during Matt Luke's final year. You're totally right. Paul, I agree with you. I think that people are so caught up. I think that Kevin is a wonderful coach, man. I really do. And I do appreciate him for putting that program in a total one 80. But at the end of the day, you got to look at he brings a lot of hype wherever he is. It doesn't matter if he's an FAU or often coordinator at Alabama. He's going to bring, you know, click bait in a sense for people want to know what he's doing because he goes against the grain and a lot of ways, which is great, but I just, with the SEC being where it is right now, this was our it's not going to get any easier, man. Texas and Oklahoma are and I think that's ultimately the question is, can he can he break the glass ceiling right now? And I'm not sure I'm not sure he can do much better because I think all missed like it or not has certain limitations. And if he leaves, that will be why. You and I both know he loves it there. It's a perfect setting for him. He can do what he wants. Nobody's bothering him. He's brought a coolness back to all of this. And let's go back. I mean, Hugh freeze was a successful coach, but Hugh freeze isn't the coolest guy you've ever met. Lane kiffin is. Well, I'm interested to hear that from Paul. I totally agree with you. It is a different type of type of swagger. I just, I don't know, man, I

"Welcome to the middle of the month the beginning of the week and what a weekend it was and we have a lot to talk about some great guests will drop by. We'll talk about everything that is happening right now in college football and in particular around the SEC and there were some huge stories. Let's begin with the dogs. How about them dogs are so on top after going to starkville? And dismantling the bulldogs. It was a very impressive performance for stetson Bennett and company. And we have an SEC matchup in Atlanta arty peg, not the one we predicted back in July. We have Georgia in LSU. That's the number of appearances that the respective schools have made, Bama, Florida, Georgia, and LSU, their usual LSU had to win and all miss had to lose for them to quench and that's exactly what happened. Nick Saban smiling like a shear cat after one of the bigger winds of the year holding off lane kiffin's old miss rebels at the wire. Blake Todd Myers saying, oh miss can not lose lane kiffin. Now when the rebels are this close, do you agree? Not everyone at once. Auburn. Now, how about this story? For those who don't understand the meaning of go crazy Cadillac, that was when he I think it was an 80 yard touchdown. In the iron bowl and the broadcaster just started screaming, go crazy Cadillac, go crazy. Rod bramlet was on the call there. The late and great rod bramwith and it was one of the most exciting calls in auburn history and Cadillac is still going crazy. The talk of auburn now will the auburn boosters do what many fans want them to do and say we don't care about lane kiffin or Hugh freeze or any of these other guys. We want one of our own, that is going to be an interesting story. And we'll follow it very closely this afternoon. Oh, by the way, we forgot to mention who the opponent was on Saturday night, it was Jimbo Fisher. No. Yeah, Jimbo blames execution. Not schemes for offensive struggles. In case you missed have not been paying attention, that was the pre season number 16 in Americas. 7th loss do the math. They're not going to a bowl game. And this, to me, was the story of the weekend. Clark Lee finally winning an SEC game fourth of the year for Vanderbilt. Who did they beat? Kentucky. The cats. I thought the cats were so hot. Remember Mark stoops? Take it on John calipari. Think again. These are some of the longest losing streaks in the conference, swanny, used to call that the university of the south. They once were in the SEC. Vanderbilt, yeah, they all started 6th straight and were you wonder why they're not in the SEC any longer, Vanderbilt still around. They lost 33 during the 70s. Congratulations to Clark Lee. And that was an exciting win. Considering they did it in Lexington made it even more special. So what are we going to do here today? We are going to talk about going crazy Cadillac. Ronnie Sanders, the publisher of auburn uncover. Undercover, we'll get his take Bill Conley. And then Spencer and Richard will join us as well. Until then, your phone calls at 855-242-7285. Let's start with John and Louisville. Hey John. Yeah, I'd buy the Cadillac given that all the other candidates lost this past weekend. Oh, I forgot, yeah, Hugh freeze lost to who do they lose to? Connecticut. Superpower in the east. You're trying to get your first SEC job since you were showing the door at all miss. You beat Arkansas. You're not supposed to lose the Yukon, man. Yeah. Paul, I'm going to ask you about TCU, but first, let me give you the good bad and ugly from the weekend. A good Alabama wins. So legend is going to be a happy caller, more like el Mont gantry less like Willie stark. The bad Alabama wins in Paul feig keeps getting the question, what are Alabama's chances for the CFP? They're not dead yet. And a question. Stop it. And of course the ugly, I think you've covered it, AMM losing. And by the way, the 12th man at a and M has announced he's going to put his name into the transfer portal. That's funny. And let's be honest. I think Jimbo Fisher sitting in his office with all those papers with different schemes is peering over his reading glasses and going, you know what, that John guy pretty funny. And I should have mentioned the word execution. Kentucky, obviously Mark stoops is may have hit his ceiling. I think when he talked about basketball school and losing the Saint Peter's, I think he told Perry hold my deer. That was a dreadful loss. It really was. So here's the question, Paul. Do you see you? You were pretty high in them losing last weekend or the, what do you think their chances are now? Double down and say they lose this weekend. CCU was really impressive. And I say that with great admiration for sunny dikes. That was a huge win and I know everybody wants to act like they don't exist, but they do exist right now. Three offensive points given up to Texas. The impressive. Yes. I look forward to the calls today. For that narrow loss. Absolutely. That's the way the game's played. Thanks, Paul. Hey, thank you, John. Appreciate it. Brad is in Florida. Hello, Brad. Good afternoon. Brad, you there. Hi. Hi. I'm here. Good. Hey, man. Oh God, I didn't hear him not to say the legend because he relevant no more. And I thought I was done, but then I heard him come on talking about Mike Griffith the other day called him a bucket head and I just couldn't help but how's the world he gonna call somebody a bucket head when he's got that big old John Travolta tank ass hit that he's rocking every day I gotta keep putting them on. That's what I wanna say legend. You're out of it, dude, y'all lost. Quick calling, son. You're like Florida. You like Florida fans. You don't hear Florida fans calling. You know why? 'cause this ain't their year. They're done. You're done. Quick call him. And I won't have to look at that tank ass head pitcher. He's got that or get a different kitchen. I won't answer this. I know he didn't know it was daddy that maybe I'm gonna help him out. Once you get past 50, you gotta quit drinking crown royal every day, otherwise you head to swell like that. Hey, thanks for calling Peterson, Savannah, Georgia. You're on the air. Go right ahead, Pete. Hey, appreciate your show. I really enjoy what you guys do for football and all the sports that are coming up. Your program is I call it verities and balderdash. All these person personalities and characters we are calling it. I don't know if it was or not, but it's close. Yeah. All this criticism of coaches, I'm kind of concerned about that, but when I came back from Vietnam, I was trying to attach department to feel artillery school and we had a full bowl colonel who was a badass and he led us with a process and he called this Bruce and that's a flat ass rule. And first rule was don't do dumb things, second was keep us informed, three was executed process and that was our reconnaissance selection and occupational position and number four was you can't teach kids students sitting on your ass. And when you put all that new process it over to football, think about the dumb plays. Don't do dumb things. Late hits, block in the back, pre snap penalties, face masks. Errors that the path in effect interception. So our

"JW. Hello, Paul. Before I forget it, I want to commend the young lady that took you play so Monday. She did a very good job. Alyssa, yes, she fantastic. I'm glad you said that. What I'm calling about is Vanderbilt football. I'm interested in your opinion. Since you spent so much time with the hierarchy up there, do you come away with the impression that this time they're serious about resurrecting the football program and doing whatever is necessary to be competitive or is it just yet again so much rhetoric? Okay, could I ask you one question, JW before I answer a question? Yes, sir. Would you like me to give you the nuanced answer or do you want a hard boiled hard boiled truth? The hard bold truth pleats. I did not come away any more convinced than I had been before. Okay. I was afraid of that, but I've been a Vanderbilt fan or tried for years and I have just heard that over and over again. You can do a lot of things and I say that I was very impressed with the Chancellor. I think he's an extraordinary academician. I had many conversations with Candace Lee. And I genuinely like Clark Lee. The football coach, and I think in some other place, he would be very good, but I just don't buy completely their plan. To me, it's not going to really change. There are a couple of there are very few programs in the SEC right now that you have to seriously wonder about. And I think we all try to prop up Vanderbilt. You know, my history with that school as well. And I don't need to keep repeating it. But in today's environment, which is more competitive and more difficult than it's ever been with all the money pouring in, I came away from there with no more optimism that Vanderbilt is going to be a contender in the SEC. We'll take a break, more to come more after this. It's college football season, which means you need the unbeatable coverage of sling TV starting at $35

"But do you know what? Hey, another important thing is 9 days from now. It's going to air the number one theme in the country. Alabama crimson time. And by golly, Paul, I can't wait to get, I can't wait to get rocking and rolling with this thing. Paul because, you know, that game's not even going to be close. But I am pervading this Saturday night. I heard you say good luck to him and I'm all for vanity getting off his truck. I came away very encouraged by the interview with Clark Lee. Will you be well, handsome Joe? Take care of yourself. Squirrel is up next in Mississippi. What an honor to follow him, Joe. And he tested on a few things about today's show, you know, the Savannah amongst the callers. You remember years back when we had a talk and you said all you consider all the callers, your children? Yes, I do remember saying that. Do you remember who you said your favorite child was? Is he still your favorite child? That's my only question. Listen, you understand being a father and you never want to pick one over the other. It's hard to. But you know, your number one leg humper legend has been real amusement past couple of days about show 20 city. The event killed somebody. He'd be the coach of Alabama. But he called me something I've never been called today. He told me a scholar. That really puzzled me. But when you look back on it, if you all you're dealing with, GED, then I guess everybody's a scholar. You know, so maybe he was from that perspective. I don't know, but do you come on like a scholar room here, Paul? I don't think you do, to me, you come on like a wise man. I'll take that. I'll say, where would age comes wisdom with age company? Scholar often, when I think of scholars, I think of guys with liberals, well, I think our guys with bad tweed coach with dandruff on the lapel, wearing a boat and then they wrote democratic circular glasses just like mine. And using a bunch of big words that nobody cares about. Yeah, I like that. I like that wise man. I'll take that any day. Hey, thanks for taking my call. Thank you. Wise man, the wise men and history did pretty well. Okay. Let's go to Hastings next. Good afternoon. St. Paul. Hey, appreciate you taking my call, great show as always. Yeah, hey, so I think I've cracked the code and Nick Saban is living in the year 30 20. Everything he does is calculated and even from the NIL comments with Jackson saying everything. He got more boosters. With this one, he made the comment about the rebuilding year because he knew the media would blow it up and get Alabama fan dried up and that they would know that, hey, if this is a rebuilding year and we go to the championship, imagine what he can do in the year 2030 after a couple more rebuilding years. And I think he got that contract extension based on those remarks. It's calculated, Paul. It was brilliant. It was genius. I think, and I'm sure this will sound harsh, but Nick Saban is one of the most calculating people I've ever met. Yeah, and I just thought. Whether it's good or bad, well, I'm trying to think of a nice way to say this. But that's why he's so successful. He doesn't waste words when he speaks. He's speaking to a specific group. He's not speaking to us. He's speaking to his team. He's speaking to parents. He's speaking to future recruits. He doesn't waste time with average folks like us. He's got a targeted audience at all times. Exactly, Paul. And hey, I appreciate you taking my call, but it was calculated and worked out in his favor. Hey, thank you, Paul. Thank you very much. We're out of time. We thank all of you for being a part of this. And guess what? We get to do this one more time this week. Have a good night.

"Didn't work at Virginia tech, but he also conceded that the first job he got, his father knew the AD and he just father knew the offensive coordinator. So again, it's not necessarily meant to shame the people who are involved in this, the coaches that are sort of legacy higher. There's a lot of very good coaches out there because they grew up in the game, but it becomes an obstacle when all the white coaches are sort of putting their white family members in the pipeline. And on that subject, you mentioned him earlier in Marcus Freeman. He, you know, you can't help but be at Notre-Dame and get a lot of attention, sometimes we make too much out of what one person can do. And Notre-Dame is hired black coaches before. So as head coaches, so this is not earth shattering, but it is important, especially his age. I mean, he could really perhaps shape reshape some of the conversation. Could he not? I think so. I mean, listen, the Tyrone whittingham willingham hire if you want to go back way back when it doesn't seem that long ago, Paul, but the things that don't seem like that long ago really are because we're getting old. You know, that didn't end well for Notre-Dame. And I think there's a lot of folks who looked at that and felt like Tyrone Williams did not get a really good really fair shake. And I imagine there's a whole bunch of people watching this market Freeman situation and wondering if what kind of a shade he will get. He's a young coach in his first coaching job. This is a big, big task to be the coach of Notre-Dame is a big task for a 30, I think it's 36 year old who has never been a head coach before. I do think he could be sort of the next generation that sort of leads to possibly a little more diversity in these ranks. I mean, again, I don't think it's that much to ask for the head coaches, the population of head coaches to look a little bit more like the population of players in major college football. In talking to people, I would like to say athletic directors and presidents make these decisions, but you and I both know this is college football. And there's usually some big guy and a smoke filled room who makes the ultimate call. What else did you learn and just talking to various people about this issue? Yes. So I think Mike loxley has done a great job. That's more Maryland head coach. He's led this national coalition of minority football coaches and I think a lot of what he says is really interesting, which is, you know, we're not necessarily looking at I'm not going to hire a black coach. It is more of I am I will tend to hire a person who looks like me because that's sort of what we end up who looks like me sounds like me and has a similar background, which leads people in power to end up hiring people who look like them when they're hiring for powerful positions. And I think that what Mike loxley will tell you, a lot of it has to do with promoting more black coaches. Having them hooked up with more ADs, getting their names out there, having people to advocate for them. They've done a lot of work as far as trying to get black coaches in positions where they have advocates within the business. Because so much of the hiring and coaching now is basically, listen, every business is a little bit of a who you know business, but so much of the way coaches are hired nowadays are people looking for recommendations and who do you think you can trust and having powerful ADs go to bat for you often ends up making the difference between who is hired? And I think that what blocks we would tell you is we need more black coaches having advocates among these powerful ADs and other powerful people who help make these decisions. Just a fantastic conversation with Ralph Russo from the AP Ralph. Many, many thanks. We know you'll be busy. We hope to catch you up with you as the season gets going. Always a pleasure, Paul. You got it. A great stuff there. We will take a break. Very dynamic final hour. We'll talk to Clark Lee from Hawaii who also talked to Patrick young, the SEC basketball analyst who has dealt with some life-changing issues in recent weeks and we'll talk to him later in the program. We're coming right back.

"It's really what you're kind of leaning on in terms of bringing that young defense up to speed throughout the season. We're talking to Bryce Smith. What's the vandenberg hustle or very prestigious campus publication, a lot of well-known celebrities and stars, tutored there. Let's talk a little bit about you for a second, Bryce, what brought you to Vanderbilt and ultimately, what would you like to do in the industry? Yeah, so obviously, like you mentioned Vanderbilt's a great school, I really, when I was looking for schools, wanted to get a good combination of the academics, but also big athletics and obviously being in the SEC Vanderbilt has the best of both Nashville doesn't really get any better than that. I've had a great time there over my four years. And for me, in high school, you know, I was involved with a number of different publications, so I knew that sports journalism was something that I wanted to pursue and Vanderbilt. There's really a lot of great opportunities to do that and like you mentioned over the past couple of years, we've had some really fine and great people come out of our newspaper. So for me, it's really just taking this time to grow and kind of develop within this role last year I got to last drag out to kind of understudy Justin Hershey in the year before that Simon Gibbs. Two guys who have done a really great job in this sports editor role. And then gone on to different places throughout the industry, whether it be ESPN or fox or the athletic, so yeah, I just really want to use this year to kind of grow and figure out how I'm going to make my mark on the industry. In Bryce, I've met both of them and they really are bright young guys that I'm keeping a close watch on them and so are a lot of people from the industry and we will do the same for you. Okay, we're not letting you out of here without some predictions. And in the past, it's been pretty easy. I think this is a more complicated slate because you've indicated there's a case that could be made for a really fast start for Vanderbilt, which is something that they desperately need. So what do you think overall as we look at the schedule here on the screen? Yeah, so I think like you mentioned a chance for a fast start here. And a little bit different than years past when you're just hoping to get, you know, maybe a win part two. My big thing for Vanderbilt in 2022 is maybe trying to get that third or fourth win. On the schedule and for the first time since 2019 making one of those an SEC win, so I think starting out two zero for sure will be vital. And then the Sam Hartman news for wake forest that kind of changes everything and hopefully will give Vanderbilt a chance and that game three you go up to northern Illinois to finish out the non conference portion of the schedule and then last year towards the end of the year like we talked about with Mike Wright, Vanderbilt was able to have a punching chance against some of those teams on the back end of the schedule. So if they're able to get one of Missouri, South Carolina, I'll put in Florida there this year and knock one of those guys off. I think that would be a really successful season for Clark Lee in year two. Bryce, thank you for being here. We will likely see you guys pretty early on in the calendar. So make sure that we can hook up again when we get to campus. And you continue great success following some big footsteps. A pleasure to have you on. Thanks so much, Paul. It was our pleasure. Bryce Smith, joining us from the hustler, the Vanderbilt school of publication. And we are heading to a break, final 30 minutes or straight ahead. "Is Braden Gaul filling in for Paul. Honored to be here this week. Hanging out with you guys talking season less than a week away next Monday. We get things started in college football. The way they deserve to be started. Although the big 12, I believe, is getting started right now. Today, tomorrow, I think tomorrow may be in terms of media days across the country. So we are in full swing, talking season starting this week and next. Of course, the SEC in Atlanta coming up next week. The player list has been announced. We'll get to that in just a second. Also, I'd like to know I was arguing with my buddies about favorite towns and uniforms and stadiums in the SEC and I was trying to tell them, no, no, listen, guys, you can't pick your favorite school where you graduated as your favorite. Give me something else you love about the SEC. What are some of the other uniforms and stadiums and towns you enjoy visiting? My answer, auburn. I like LSU's uniforms. I like auburn the town and I like Sanford stadium. It would be my three votes in the SEC. So if you're going to call 855-242-7285, I'd like to know what your favorites are in the SEC that don't have anything to do with your favorite team. It doesn't seem that complicated. That's not your favorite team. The players that are going 7 quarterbacks will be in Atlanta next week. Bryce young, of course, for Alabama, hen and hooker for Tennessee, KJ Jefferson for Arkansas. They will be there next week. Of course, you've also got Mike Wright at Vanderbilt is going to be there, which is some insight into maybe how Clark Lee is feeling about that quarterback battle. You've got Anthony Richardson going for Florida, the quarterback who is only a sophomore, one of only three sophomores that will be in Atlanta next week on media days. I think that is a huge statement of belief by Billy Napier in his star sophomore quarterback to send him to Atlanta on media days to represent the university of Florida. I think that is a bold statement and I think it says a lot about where they are with Richardson because I think he is like, listen, I know we wore number 15 and I know he's had that run past thing. Shades of Tim Tebow and you watch him play even though he's bigger. I just think he is a super freak of an athlete and if he's in Atlanta as a sophomore, to me that says Anthony Richardson is your starting quarterback for the Florida Gators moving forward as if there was any doubt. But I think Billy Napier put all that doubt to rest. Will levis, of course, for Kentucky, gonna be there as well with major expectations around that Kentucky team, new offensive coordinator, Mark stoops, has a great offensive line coming back and a really good defensive line crop of players recruits from 2020 that should be stepping into starting roles to try to reload that defensive line for Kentucky. So I'm fascinated to see that. And of course, the guy that no one talks about. When we rank quarterbacks, when we rank quarterbacks in the SEC or around the country, it seems like we go down the list and we always forget about this guy. And I think he gets a bad rap for being this quote unquote game manager. He's a better athlete than that. You look at his yards per attempt up around ten, 11 yards per attempt as a passer. One of the nation's most efficient players and oh, by the way, a national champion stetson Bennett will be in Atlanta next week as well for the Georgia bulldogs. So I think stetson Bennett just kind of gets lost in the shuffle. Are there still Georgia fans? Here's what's fascinating. Are there still Georgia fans? Like what percentage are there still like 10% of you that's like, yeah, I don't know, maybe JT Daniels could have could have beaten Alabama in Atlanta too. There's still some of you that are worried about that and bothered by that or you guys all just moved along and moved on and said, no, no, no, no. Stetson's our guy. Man, that was unfair for a while, right? Listen, I'll be guilty. I was one of them. I'll put my hand up and be accounted for. I always thought JT Daniels was the mortality player. It should have been starting, blah, blah, blah, blah, feeding the narrative. I was guilty of that. But man, the offense evolved last year for Georgia. So stetson Bennett going to be there. We'll see what the offense does this year because I would argue that Georgia, we know how great the defense is. I think you could argue Georgia has the greatest collection of tight ends. We've ever seen in college football history, and that would include that would include the Miami hurricanes of the early aughts, which would be what, like Kelvin Winslow and Jeremy shockey on the same team. Like that's insane. They have three dudes that are almost as good. I mean, Bowers is a freak. So however Todd monken wants to use those tight ends. Stetson benet will get them the football. And they all do different things, right? Gilbert Washington and Bowers. It's going to be a lot of fun. Georgia's office is going to be a lot of fun. So we'll talk with stetson Bennett coming up next week as well. I thought interesting again, 7 quarterbacks going. I thought it was interesting that Mike leitch decided just to just to pick three graduate seniors only graduate seniors for Mike leech. That's so unbranded. I don't even know what to say. I appreciate that. Will Anderson Jordan battle going to be there for Alabama. Those are two first team all SEC defensive players. At least two guys I'll be voting for next week. Jalen Catalan bumper pool for Arkansas, along with KJ Jefferson that Arkansas team is going to be a very, very hot topic next week. LSU Arkansas, Mississippi state, ulnas, that group of teams in the west is going to be a very hot topic next week. Auburn bringing tank bigsby a star tailback, first team all SEC player, Derek hall, first team all SEC edge rusher for auburn as well. Samuel schenker there the tight end going to go for auburn. So there's a lot of star power.

"The pride passion and pageantry of college football lives here. This is the Paul finebaum show hour three podcast. And we welcome all of you back. It's great to be here for the final couple of hours, let's continue with more of your phone calls on a busy day where the SEC meetings have ended with very little done in relation to the schedule. We have one baseball game in Arkansas one handily earlier. Tennessee plays later this afternoon in Knoxville and let's get to the calls and AC is in New Jersey. Hello, AC. Good afternoon, mister fine bomb, happy Friday thank you so much for taking my call. We are doing great. Thank you. Perfect, mister fine bomb. I'm up to rookie AC anymore. I became maintenance event they see. Now you can see a lot of differences because I want it more. I want to eat up all your losers out there. My question for you dear sir, what's your diet and exercise? Let's play some fine bomb. God bless you, man. You're about to tour in 66. You have an aged at all guy in an exercise, whatever you're doing, man. Can you please tell me and those fat Americans call us a look? I'll see you later. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I don't think anyone probably is all that interested in my diet and exercise, especially in my diet. But thank you very much. Let's continue. I guess. That's good. Estonia in Georgia. Hello stone, you go right ahead. Hey, Paul. Hope you're doing well. Appreciate you taking my call. Thank you. To you for a while, but first time I've called in here. I do want to comment a little bit on this Barrett was talking a little bit earlier about Brian Kelly and very successful in this coaching and all. I went back and I looked and 2018 when they, when they made it last to the playoffs, they got beat course by four touchdowns by glimpse. And I'm going to add big wins. I think they'd beat ball state. I think they, you know, they had some had some places, you know, they'd be some teams that weren't very good. Now, as you know, in professional sports, you've got the NFC. You've got the AFC and of course, now you've got the SEC. And that's where he's at now. And the idea that he's going to come to the SEC and in particular in the western division and win ten games in the SEC, I don't see that happening, Paul. Let me ask you this. I hear you where you are, but I've always thought Kelly was a spectacularly successful coach at Cincinnati and other places and before he got to Notre-Dame. But what do you think there is about Brian Kelly in relation to why he can't do it when you look at what at ouch you're on dud, did and less miles as well. And I'm not talking about less miles inherited from Nick Saban, he nearly won another national championship 7 years after Saban left. Well, listen, there's no doubt he's going to get the athletes. They'll issue that they attract high quality athletes. They got 5 stars everywhere. And so I don't doubt it all, they'll get the athletes. But game day, he's very emotional on the sidelines. We've seen him yell and string out profanity with his players at a Catholic school. Got in a little hot water with that. I just don't think that he's set for ten wins. I think if he comes in and consistently gets 8 or 9 wins, that's probably the ceiling for him. Did I just think the talent is going to be that they're going to be playing again? They beat an grossly overrated Syracuse in 2018. I think it was about 5 points, 14 to 19. And those kind of things aren't going to be on the schedule for him playing an SDC. No, I agree with that, but I think Brian Kelly is a better coach than at augeron. Quite frankly, I think a lot of people are better than coaches in Ed Azure. And he was a very good recruiter, but I thought it was a head coach. He was subpar. And I think he's a better coach and less miles who bordered on buffoonery at times. And he did have a bad period at Notre-Dame. And nearly cost him his job, but to his credit, he went out and hired a really good people. One of whom was Clark Lee as a defensive coordinator that he brought in Marcus Freeman. And everything I'm going to say, you know, but I mean, he's played for a title in the BCS era. He's been in the playoffs a couple of times in the, in the CFP. And I think he has a better chance of doing that at LA she was especially as the CFP expands here in three years. Thank you for the call. Do appreciate it. Let's continue and Greg is up next in Alabama. Hello, Greg. In Georgia. How are you doing? Good afternoon. I'll be pretty good. How are these all Alabama fans crying about the championship? Georgia had four or 5 or savers out for the Clemson game. Georgia could go 70 catching the ball. And Alabama can't go too deep, receivers catching the ball. And we got this old transfer of portal paid off name image a lot. So Burton next year, he gonna drop the ball and championship game. So as the year of the Dow, we're going to win it all again. John is up next. Hey John, you are on the air. Good afternoon. Hey there. John. I just want to say.

"The pride passion and pageantry of college football lives here. This is the Paul finebaum show hour three podcast. We are back, a busy day, J Bill it's an hour ago talking about Shibuya, coming back to Kentucky and the NIL. We talked to John Adams about the balls, chances. And you heard Candace Lee there talk about Vanderbilt's future. Let's get back to the calls. Danny is up next. Hello, Danny. Man, I'm trying to hold back the best thing I can say is Candace Lee sucks. She's horrible. She has no right to be running a. Program in the SEC, she's just terrible. Let me offer it. Let me say this to you, and you can have any opinion you want. But having some experience with Vanderbilt in the past as the athletic director, you can only do what your administration allows you to do. So you may not like what she says, and that's fair, but does she have total authority and autonomy over how much is spent on football two wins, her goal is to win. Well, I don't think she said that. I think what she said, I mean, listen, I'll be if you're not concerned about the future of Vanderbilt football, you're not being honest with yourself. The last three years have been a total disaster. Let's cut to the chase. And there wasn't much evidence last year that Clark Lee has made a dramatic shift in culture. I thought the culture was great under Derek mason, his coaching was terrible. That was the problem. Yeah, much better. And the thing about it is that. When she canceled UGA's senior day, it was just horrible. Well, again, I know that I know Georgia fans remain very upset about that, but the real issue is can Vanderbilt be competitive in football. And I think she determined that day they couldn't be. So you're right. The game was the game was off. They should not be in this conference. Goodbye to Vanderbilt. Thank you, Danny. You know, I mean, I feel like the question was fair and the answer was her answer in relation to what is acceptable under Clark Lee. James Franklin proved ten 12 years ago, you could do it. You could be successful at Vanderbilt. Now, the problem for Vanderbilt isn't the fact that they have been non competitive competitive the last couple of years, it's the league is only going to get more difficult. With Oklahoma and Texas coming in and this NIL, making the haves and the have nots even worse than they already were. I mean, Vanderbilt used to maybe catch a bad Tennessee team every once in a while or somebody else, there aren't going to be any bad teams in the SEC anymore other than. Pat is up next. Pat go right ahead. Hey Paul, this is just a comment about the call from Jane from Tennessee about legend. Right. I would suggest that Jane they let loose in the prison yard as an inmate and see how well he fares or better get how long he lasts. And one more thing, Jim is so jealous of legend and I'm Ann because they are men he can't stand up to him like he can women. You know, whether you like pat or not, and I think we could do a poll on that and get a mixed result. She doesn't waste any time. And I like that very, very much. She comes in very hot. Cat daddy..

"It is national signing day and we will have all of it here and we will try to cover every available. Angle from start to finish as we say hello to you and get right to the headlines. National signing day 21, the race is on and at this hour, which is a three O one Eastern Time. Let's look at the rankings and yeah, it's a surprise. Alabama. Number one, Georgia at the number two position, I'll go ahead and read this for those of you who are not in front of a television right now, which would include a lot of you in cars and listening on the radio. A and M it, the three position missou at number four, that is a tenth overall in the country, Kentucky. At the number 5 position 13th overall South Carolina 6 in the SEC 16th, auburn has made quite a move overnight and currently has the 7th position and 7 teeth overall. This is an all SEC list when you get right down to it both obviously in the SEC but outside as well, Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee at number tenth, which makes them 23rd overall, Mississippi all this, Vanderbilt, 34th nationally in Florida is in the rear. Elsewhere in recruiting have you heard about what Jackson Jackson state did? That's Deon Sanders team. Travis hunter, the number one player in some polls in the entire nation, spurned Florida state. Yes, that is Deon Sanders Alma mater to land at Jacksonville Jackson state, not Jacksonville, David Jackson state in Mississippi. That is the story of the day. It's a story that will get a lot of juice around the country, transcending the college football platform, and we'll talk more about how that happened. Assuming we can figure it out later in the show, Roman Harper joins us right off the top jumbo, three 45 Clarke Lee, Brian, a big rush, Shane beamer and Dan grunfeld, the son of Ernie grunfeld, the Tennessee star book out, we'll talk to him in the final hour. So it's been a busy one. And the Jackson state move is certainly got a lot of people's attention and does it sound like maybe the NIL was involved in that. It's just a hunch. Let's get to the phones as well and get your reaction quickly at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5. Let's begin with pat in Nashville. Hey pat. Hey, Paul, how are you doing, bud? We are doing great. Thank you. How about the doors, man? They had a better class than 96 other D one teams. I hope that translates into some more victories next year for Clark. I hope so. Yeah, Clark Lee did a really good job. His first full recruiting class. One more, one more quick thing, Paul. And I'm serious when I ask this, so I'd like some further callers to weigh in on this. If you lined up bam and Nick and Joe from red bay, which one of those is the dumber of the two, are they? I think that is such an easy answer. You're not going to you're not going to force me to say that are you, but. There are two of a kind. Well, no. There is a difference though between the two. One, one is funny. One is both have class, unfortunately, it's all low. Thank you for the call. John in Tennessee is up next. Hey, John. Hey, my name is Tom Kyle. Thank you. I take the tier 6 copyright next year and I think it's so sad we're coming back. Well, you know what, I think with hooker coming back, you're right. I think Tennessee has a chance to move off of what it did this year. I think there are going to be a 7 win team or an 8 win team. Because I think they're going to win the ball game and it's in a really good start for Josh hyper. Thank you for the call. Appreciate it very, very much. Let's check in with Bill in Florida hello Bill. Hey, how are you? Very well. Thanks for the first time power, but I'll listen to each afternoon. The primary thing I would like you to answer for me Paul is, what's the primary reason other than I think personally, it has a lot to do with money and notoriety, but your take on so many moves and I'm going back to even when the coach at duke had players starting to leave, he was national champions a number of years and then all of a sudden everybody takes off. Give me some reasons why you personally thank there's so much movement when within the last couple of years. Well, thanks for the call, Bill. Well, I think you're talking about the players, COVID made it a little bit easier to transfer everybody everybody picked up a free year. And the lessening of restrictions has made it easier. And players nowadays just want to play. They want to further their opportunity. And that's aside from the NIL. I thank you for the call. Appreciate it. Eddie is in Georgia. You're on the air hello Eddie. Yes, sir, brother, Paul, how are we doing today? We are doing great. Thank you. Yes, sir. Even though you get the number one recruiting all the time, you still got a coach in players up to play. And Nick Saban's staff does add all the time. I'm just wondering on black Monday after the NFL season is over. Are we gonna lose Bill O'Brien or we gonna lose the offensive line coach also? Do you think? Eddie, I don't know the answer to that..

"Welcome you back. It's always great to see match stench. Come on tuesday afternoon and we were talking about the air. You georgia bandy. The other day. I i i applaud you. Because really that's a that's a tough game to entertain the masses for almost four hours spoil. You're assuming that we did that. There's a decent chance. I don't know that there were masses around. There were a lot of family members watching the game. Maybe were i suppose. Yeah you'd like to think that somebody was out there. we hope. I'm not here to disparage anyone. But when a game is lopsided. I assume it could have been a lot worse yes How how do you objectively comment on what you're seeing. When it's it's over so quickly well you know there is no you take no joy and seeing drubbing and so i think what we did. Was you pivot to the team. That's enjoying success. Because that's likely who's probably even sticking around anymore. No one wants to stick around team. Get get a munnell stomped on him and it was that extensive and i think it just kind of colors the level of challenge that they're facing their vanderbilt now and i'm hopeful that when they hired clark lee one of the things that happened was they said you know we're we're we are committing to improving the facilities and providing this program the resources that it needs to try to compete in this conference. Derek mason didn't have those resources bobby johnson. How those james franklin and they were able to at times have levels of achievement. Derek mason one nine games. There's some there's some years where you're sitting there going. Two thousand sixteen was a heck of a year for vanderbilt two thousand eighteen bowl season. So you think that there's a chance to where they should at least five hundred or better especially now that we're back to twelve games and there's non-conference scheduling etc The other day was. I'm not gonna say disappointing. It was troubling. Because i think twenty twenty took a pretty significant toll on a lot of programs but it was a not a fatal blow but one that has staggered that program so far the season they got a chance to get right. This week versus yukon. I don't even know whether their favorite it'd be surprised. There are concerned the team. So there you go so all right. So and and we kind of speculated as much in the game so you you you start talking about the team that's enjoying success and one that it was reminiscent of two thousand. Twelve texas versus auburn. Where you're sitting there going. We actually did that game. I'm going this is hard to watch. I was shocked. Yeah people always talk about coaches can what happened. That game happened. That's what happened. Yeah look he had a lot of overhaul on that staff. And it's amazing. How coaching matters. And it's not just coached by one guy. There's other guys that are on that staff and that staff. That i read it didn't run into him directly but a friend of mine saw somebody who was one of the coordinators on that staff. No names and he's he's now a coordinator In high school ball. yeah not only disparagingly. But that's that here was not a good year and the other coordinator college coach head coach and had a big win the other day. It's just you know coaching matters. And the other thing to think. Is that vanderbilt. Part of it is and took derek mason. Some talking about okay. so it's just. It was saturday was tough sled. There's no doubt let's look ahead. People are whether they're getting ahead of themselves or not. It's justified in talking about the razorbacks as they head to georgia. But they do have this week and next week. Against ole miss and and people can say reality or not. It doesn't matter at this point. They have they've obliterated the expectations no doubt i mean. Even last year they were counted the cinderella story and there were questions when sam pittman got the job and you kind of those are warranted. Think concerns you can call them earliest curiosities going never been head guy. Never been a coordinator. How often does this actually work. And kind of the mold of that time was it worked at lsu and we see that the difficulties. They're having their. Is it just the head coach. Not necessarily the idea that they've already got four wins and they've got two of the best ones. I think when you talk about as far as wins based on what we thought teams were coming into the season. They got to best wins of the season. They texas texas and that's not just relative to what we thought arkansas was going to be. It's been a great story. Do we know that they're great football teams. That's tough to say it takes same for example where full-strength now i mean. We're already our backup quarterback. We saw them last week and and they've got some real problems and it's not just quarterback that offensive line is a problem and their inability to get separation at receiver. A very real problem and that was a costly victory for arkansas guys. You see k jefferson. Leave the lineup trail and berks lease the lineup. You've got to offensive lineman. They're playing hurt and played well so already through the first month of the season. Arkansas has done a fantastic job and you hope that there will be some level of of sustaining that because if it doesn't from a win loss standpoint my concern would be you look back on this year and it's like just another year for arkansas. This was one that more difficult schedules at anybody faced in the country and they've handled it really well so far but as you point out it gets tougher. It's tougher on when you have to play the sec. At georgia no favors done there. Yeah it's insane. Let's talk about the other game. Saturday that so many people are excited about in. Everyone's asking well lane kiffin did this last year. Can you do it again. What what is the path for this. Well you gotta get stops. I mean even if this offense is it was a year ago and part of it is. We can't look at it in a vacuum. Where compare this year's offense. The last year is offense. Well neither one of these teams are the same. So does does this. Year is often get play year's alabama defense they don't right and that was the first year of the jeff lobby lane kiffin combination offensively and jeff lebanese. The play caller. And you can see baylor all throughout that offense as far as where he comes from an a coaching philosophy. But you can see lane kiffin kind of enmeshed in there as well and now you're in your to and now you've got matt corral..

"I feel bad because you know they've been bad for a while but is there any sort of Think we can expect from these thing over or under even three and eighteen over the last two seasons at that's That's tied with kansas for the the least productive five programs. I don't despite the fact that they're tied with kansas there. I don't put them in the same categories kansas. I think Kansas has real issues that they need to fix and they might be underway to fixing them right now. I don't know the answer. That the problem with vanderbilt right now and what i think will be a continuing problem for that. Program is to transfer portal because they have had guys who were know top five round. Nfl draft picks over the years. That i think going forward will will recognize it like unproductive at vanderbilt at middle linebacker. What happens if i go to alabama. I could start for that. And and i could enjoy playing for a national championship or playing for conference. Titles so i just don't think clark lee has the talent to really get much done right now. I mean they. They have a returning quarterback and that good sign They got a defense. It was a abysmal One hundred twenty third in yards per play last year. Meanwhile clark was directing the notre dame defense fifteenth in the country in yards perplexed. He's going to have to is going to have the learn to win with less athletic players. In what notre dame has had I don't see him beating. Colorado state. I don't see him being stanford the probably beat east tennessee state I don't see a whole lot of wins left in that program the first year coach bump at a at a program like vanderbilt Or program that's really suffered can can be worth win shares if you wanna think of it that way but when they lost guys who opted out or left the program last year because there are so tight with derek. Mason mason was fired in the middle of the season. I still don't understand. It wouldn't have cost you clark early or anybody else. You're considering it's a head coach. It just costs morale and that was a huge drop for them. Now i will throw this out in the beginning of our conversation with vanderbilt We have learned that. Lsu has a high vaccination rate we learned that the alabama some people in in hoover were saying it was upwards of ninety four percent. Nick saban said they're just shy of ninety percent from a vaccination rate. No question of mine. That saving is going to demand is players be as fully vaccinated as a can from roster standpoint. Vanderbilt will be one hundred percent in that is because at vanderbilt. This is this upcoming academic year. If you're a student advantage but you have to have a vaccination to attend class. That is requirement of every vanderbilt student so their football program by proxy will have one hundred per vaccination rate. They're not losing any games to forfeit. Because they can't feel the team what value you wanna put on that I'm not sure. But that's that's where the point of the could default win program is yes yes if anyone's going to default win and grab a forfeit. It's going to be banned. i liked. That is something. Certainly a caveat worth mentioning and important one especially when you have a win total about three and a half south carolina. It's going to take some time. I would imagine to turn this program around. Where do they stand in relation to either vanderbilt in a win. Total four yet. Carolina loss last six last year bad morale around the program same thing. Let's spend a bunch of money during a pandemic fire will champ When it hadn't been done before couldn't be done. After which i didn't i didn't really understand. I think they're going to be better than some. Expect i i. I'm not promising like a a massive win. Total for them. But i'm shane beamer. Ken give them for sure. Coaches bump you know with the energy and enthusiasm he's bringing..

"But i think we're pretty high on them. Relatively speaking so that game is going to be a little bit trickier than people think or the casual fan. Thinks when they look at the schedule. Just kind of thumbed down. No doubt about it. I think he you go through and you go a win win. I am not quite so sure especially knowing the situation that will present itself there but more about that when we get there in early september a team that no longer takes up residency pain in the acc but will still play a bevy of acc opponents. This year would be the notre dame fighting irish no odds available on the conference because they're not eligible after their one year foray into conference football player. They came up just short against the clemson tigers. Their win total. This season sits at eight and a half. You do have to lay a dollar twenty five to go over. And i guess the biggest question for notre dame in a year where so many power programs have continuity and especially the mid majors with a lot of super seniors. Notre dame's gonna be forced to overcome a lot of losses specifically on the offensive side of the ball and defensively when you lose a defensive coordinator in clark lee. That was had a ton of fingerprints all over what they were able to do now. Fortunately for the irish they have arguably one of the best defensive coordinators and all of college football that they're bringing in and marcus freeman. But when we approach notre dame this season we know they opened up in tallahassee against beloved. Florida state seminoles. What should be realistic expectations for brian. Kelly steam a program. That's been knocking on the door of elite college football. They just can't get over the hump and beating the clemson's in the alabama's won't get over the hump their sure either. And i think you know. We're all wondering about notre dame offensively because they lack a lot of returning production especially in a season where teams are returning major contributors offensively notre dame ranks a hundred and twenty third and returning production and. I think there's some questions about talent as well. I mean which. Jack gonna look like after missing last season you know. How large is the drop in a line. Play going to be when you lose. Four starters you know what impact is that going to have on kyran williams and i think the questions that we've had the last few years is like what does it look like outside talent wise at receiver. I love michael meyer. He's like our michael mayor. Rather is one of the best tight ends in the country. But it's like what do you have outside to threaten people. And that's been a real question since chase klay pool left for the nfl. So those are the questions for me now. I think cones probably you know nice veteran presence to buy time before he passes the torch tyler buckner. Who's a high level recruit. And i think cone is a veteran. Who kind of knows where to go with. The ball can throw the some anticipation. He's kind of accurate but ian book. I mean you know my feeling on him. I thought he was one of the most under appreciated quarterbacks in college football and even if you start to try to use some comparisons here and you look at cones breakout season. Two thousand nineteen. You still got the vibe. They a little bit of a game manager. His career dot is one and a half yards shorter than in books. Right in in two thousand nineteen cones. Epa pass tent was substantially lower than books was last season and we know cone isn't nearly as mobile as book either. So you're gonna lose that element of the offense. I just there's areas. Wash marsha right like in front of cone. You're like hey what do we. What do we do here. We're gonna you know hopefully provide some stability but it's like four offensive. Linemen are gone. Obviously you go out and land. Cain madden for marshall. That was massive graded out the best garden college football last season so he fills one of the voids there. But you're talking about an online those top twenty five in line yards passing down line yards stuff right. I mean they created holes for iron williams. I think you're going to see notre dame's offense regress substantially. They finished as a top twenty unit. Last year i think they're probably gonna fight to be like a top forty unit. This ship so i think the drop off sprees significant on the offensive side of the ball. I just can't see another scenario where that's not the case. Yeah i mean you talked about their offensive line. Jerry patterson the one guy that was wearing a navy and gold a season ago they lose a hundred forty starts as a collective from that particular group. And we've seen it time and time again you can offset some severe deficiencies skill position talent if you have the building blocks front but we'll see what jack cohn can do taking over for ian book when you look at. The irish is scheduled. We talked about that labor day opener at florida state home games against toledo and purdue and arguably their first massive test on paper. I would say pain neutral site game against wisconsin in the latter portion of september. But things don't get really easier after that when you take on. Cincinnati at home. A level of familiarity will get to in a second and then at virginia tech but not the most daunting of schedules at least on paper for the irish. That we've seen now defensively. Clark louis he heads the vanderbilt. Marcus freeman comes in. And i've seen a lot of people saying well if the irish are smart. They're gonna make marcus freeman there. Coaching waiting should brian. Kelly explore other opportunities. And it's hard to argue with some of the things he was able to accomplish. Cincinnati a unit. That's been outstanding. I wonder if he's going to be able to try and utilize the same scheme since he employed a heck of a lot of three three five at the bearcats. We're not quite sure how that works when you step up in class but the irish while they bring back a study and kyle hamilton. Who is going to be a first round. Nfl draft pick. At some point. You do lose a lot of playmakers defensively not as many as you did on the offensive side but clearly this unit could take a step back. Potentially they will. And that's kind of what i was trying to figure out is where was my baseline for notre dame's defense last season because ultimately that's going to help us figure out how big the dip is this season and wasn't as great metrically i think as perception was and it was. I like how the defense plays a really aggressive attacking style defense. you know they. They were great last year. Creating havoc top-five. They're made a ton of place. Behind the line of scrimmage number one and stuffing runs and the front..

"Think Urban's really well set up for that. Bringing in guys like Darryl Bevel on offense. Brian Schottenheimer is the past game coordinator. This is a lot of mind that I've worked with a lot of young players and had a lot of success, and you know, in urban everywhere he's been he's won. I know we all remember that he wanted Ohio State that he wanted Florida but he wanted bowling green, and he wanted Utah in a way that those two programs have number one cent. So I just feel like it can work there and with Trevor and cap space and picks and all that, Um, I don't know I'm about somebody's excited for this opportunity is one of the guys I've worked with you is, you know, a first round pick, but he's excited for this opportunity is I've been about about anybody's Palmer, My guest woman thought about that he he did throw on Friday, but he's gonna need surgery on that left shoulder for those who do not know what does the surgery address? And how does that impact the way you work with him in the coming months? Well, you know the whole value and bumping the pro day up was so that he can go ahead and have surgery now, so e think it's and I'm not. This is not my world, but I think it's about a two month deal. Um it's a very standard procedure. I mean, the kind of deal with the surgeon who does it did three more this morning, right before you, you know. And, um So it's a very standard deal. It's got a great plan from physical therapy standpoint, we're so the guy named Drew Drew Marcos that motives who's probably the best physical therapist in the country will be doing all that and So it's really not a big deal. He just has to go through and follow the guidelines. We shall do and he'll be back back, throwing here in a couple months, and he'll be ready well before the season starts and have plenty of timeto. To get his body and everything under control and where he wants it to be for the start of the season. We're talking Jordan Palmer. Sure. What about Josh Allen? He had a breakout year this year as somebody who has worked with him in the past and on a personal level. What was it like to see him take such an enormous step forward this year. Well, I mean, I've got used to work with a lot of guys and you know you put yourself into him. You hope for the best and to be honest with you challenge me to watch him take that step this early. Um, I mean, I kind of every week continued to be blown away, even though I'm pulling for him, and I believe that it could happen, but still to see it on Big games, too. It's not like you beat up on the bad teams and struggled first, the good ones. You beat up on everybody and I just that you could kind of see all the pieces when if you're around him, he's funny. He's as funny of a quarterback as we have in this league and as much fun to hang out with as we have any quarterback in this league But also the greatness that he sees in himself the confidence It was just cool to see all those things come together on top of, you know, mechanically and accuracy and Just goes to show you if you go to an organization and what Brandon being the general manager's done there. On Brian Table on offense, and Ken Dorsey, his quarterback coach. It's the sum of all these parts and, yeah, we can talk about Stefan digs, but the reality is that they were really good last year, too, and they just continued to build around this young player. On support him in a way where I actually think you know, we look at Kansas City and we look at some of these. These teams that have laid out the blueprint for how toe You know, drafted, build around quarterback and Brandon Bean and Sean McDermott in the pool, a family. I think they've kind of reset the bar in terms of what is building around a young quarterback supposed to look like I think it's supposed to look like what? They just didn't Buffalo Joran Palmer joining me for a couple of more moments. I gotta ask you to order. What do you make of how Tom Brady played in the Super Bowl and over the course of the season? Well, there's something kind of cool, but I'm seeing with my eye on Tom Brady. Right now. That's not really talked about. So this class football season. I've got a guy I work with. You just focuses on the biomechanics and the movement side of things and My right hand man with coaching quarterbacks, and they gave him a study. I said, Find me the top couple movers in the league meeting the guys who moved the most efficiently. No wasted movement. When they lean or cut or plant they don't get outside of their hips. Stay within their hips and, ironically, that the guys that we identified as the two best movers in the league or Cuyler Murray and Tom Brady, and how ironic is that? That's wild 5 11 and arguably the best athlete in the league at the position outside of maybe Lamar. Then the other guys 43 years old, and I don't know you could make the argument body wise you in the least the bottom. Couple athletes in the league of the position, but his what he's done with his team and Alex Guerrero and all these guys is he's just become one of the most efficient movers. And that's before we start talking about throwing in the mental side of the game and clutching all that stuff, So I just think that he hasn't just relied on his strength he's turned are arguably his biggest weakness. Into a strength that is such that I've identified him as one of the top two movers in the league, whatever that means, so he's just gotten more efficient. He's got and it looks like he's got more athletic, but he's just gotten more efficient. And then you find out afterwards you need surgery after the game. You're like man that's on top of the knee injury, So I just think it's fascinating. We have the timers time conversation, all that, but the reality is that he has continued to move better. Grow better and no better and and he finally got toe parrot together in a new spot with him, you know, in all Star team around him, and it couldn't have been looked like someone your deal to me. It looked like something that happened at the end of season have to deal with for a few so fascinating conversation right there once again former NFL quarterback founder of QB Summit This year's class would include Trevor Laurence Brady, White and also shame. Bushell, Jordan. Great job. I really appreciate you making time for the show as always, great to run you down Jordan. Thanks so much. Next room was great, really good. Tom Brady is one of the top to quote movers in the league. Even at that age, and the other one is Cuyler Murray. That's amazing. All right. Hope you enjoyed that. I got a lot of that. That's a great conversation. Always always always. Jordan Palmer. Former NFL quarterback and a consultant. Breaking it down. When we come back, we go back to back. I've got the head football coach at Vanderbilt, Clark Lee, and then I am open the rest of the way. Think about what you want to talk about. 1 806 368686..

"A candy asked for old trapper by name, because no other jerky compares old trapper. What is your beef? Coming up the top of the hour, the head football coach at Vanderbilt Clark Lee has promised right now we're joined by former NFL quarterback He is a quarterback consultant. He's founder of QB Summit players that he has worked with. Includes. Shawn Watson, Patrick Mahomes, Sam Donald, Josh Allen drew lock job, Earl. This year's class includes Trevor Laurence. Grady White and Steve Buechele. We're joined by Jordan Palmer, Jordan. Great to have you back. How are you? I'm doing great. How you doing? Good, Good. Jordan. Great to visit with you. Let me start by asking you about Trevor Laurence because he threw on Friday Jordan and from people who talk about the legal cover the league. It seems like he's the biggest lock is a first round pick for the first pickle roll in a long, long time. If he didn't have to throw and he didn't. Why did he and what's that say about him? Well, I think the biggest thing with Trevor is Um, you know he's got and it's pretty binary. You're either or on this. Where you either go through this process and you try and do it exactly the way that everybody advises you and what you think is perfect and don't slip up. That's one way to go through this process and send some guys go through this process and say I got nothing to hide. Give me a ball. Let me play. Andre, for example. I mean, my brother Carson Palmer was he was a lock to go Number one, and he played in the Senior bowl and through and ran at the combine. Because that mind set of well, I mean, everyone else is doing it. I've got nothing to hide. Give me a ball, and Trevor certainly has the same mentality. So it was never an issue is never a conversation. He was said. Yeah, let's do it. Let's do a full pro day. Whenever it makes sense for everybody to do it. I'll be ready to go and he showed up. He was respected, in fact, in terms of how he showed up. What do you make of how he looked on Friday? And what did he show everybody? Well, I think you look great. Um, you know, he's only been really throwing coming off of this last season for Ah, a couple of weeks and you know with him and in last year with Joe Burrow having the national championship and everything I think it's important for these guys. You were the face of college football to take a little bit of time away before they start going here And really with Trevor. You know his season. It didn't start when everyone else is did. Trevor led the Let us played movement early this year. Right and then social injustice. You use this platform to be involved in that so even when they weren't playing games Trevor Laurence was on and this has been a lot a lot in one year. And on top of it, just being the crazy year that we've all experienced, and so he took a little bit of time away and then came back into it. And so it really for a couple of weeks. New footwork, New ball knew everything. Um, I think he showed that you can throw him in a in a weird situation, and he's just gonna be Home and steady ID and poised, and, um, you know, if if, if he if he would have gone through the process any differently, Um then I don't think it would have been true to who he is. And so I think you showed that he can spin. It doesn't matter how I knew the footwork is or what The situation is. He's going to be poison under control and And doesn't matter how many eyeballs are on him. He's gonna be ready to rock. We're talking to Ron Palmer really interesting, So he's coming off one of the all time Great college career is, But as you've pointed out, the transition to the NFL is the challenge for every single quarterback. So what are the things that he's going to experience both on field and off the field in the NFL that he has not experienced in college? Well, honestly, Jim, I think he's different than a lot of guys in that. Might he goes to Jacksonville? I actually think the sum like the adding up all the pieces, the sum of the entire experience the media the pressure all the expectations. I actually think that some of it will be Kind of equal to what it was and maybe even feel smaller, because not because he came from Clemson. But because he's been kind of the face of college football for a few years now and the expectations and the media and the way that the SEC is set up. We're being so top heavy where you know they kind of they beat up on a bunch of teams, and then they get a couple games here where you just have to win all of them. It's so set up that way, like in the NFL, if you go 10 and six It's a pretty good year. You're gonna make the playoffs. When you're at Clemson, You can't lose a game. And so I think a lot of that where every game matters and then being the face of college football and all the media that comes with that, because it's national media there, I actually think when he transitions Some elements of it are going to be even in the same or easier, And so I loved all the experience he's had coming at being, you know, the one of the most highly recruited kids ever. All the eyeballs and the target on his back and all that stuff the last 45 years. I actually think The All of that is going to make his transition easier and no doubt there's gonna be a bunch of new stuff for him like there is for anybody going from college to pro, but I actually think he's better position to handle all of it than a lot of guys I've worked with in the past. Not because he's better or worse, just because he's had so many reps that air relevant, But I think it's going to really help with his transition. And because Jordan has been in the spotlight literally forever since he was roughly 15 years old. What about one more thought about Jacksonville? Specifically, what do you make of the fit with urban Meyer specifically and what Meyer did with offenses in college? How do you like that Fit? I love it. I'll tell you what just kind of Seeing the way that things coming together and No urban is he's in college is hard on the coaches, but the players love him. I think that transition works in the league when they're when coaches would go from college. Your poem blossoms. They're overly hard on players and bring that college mentality. Sometimes we hear that doesn't work as well..

"Jim and they were saying, Wow, we don't really know how to, you know, get out on guard Jason Tatum on those three pointers like we really struggled to keep up with Boston's wings. We heard that from bread Brown before he was let go. We heard that from jail and be himself and you look at Brooklyn's perimeter firepower. There is no team that you know. Better position to really push your perimeter defense more than the Brooklyn Nets. I mean, these guys score from every single spot. It's amazing. The impact of those three stars has had on all of their role players. I mean, Jeff Green looks revitalized. He had a great game against Golden State. DeAndre. Jordan Absolutely is looking more effective on offense. Since this James Harden trade then before the James Harden trade because he just gets the feast on these easy pick and roll dunks, and their shooters are so open all the time, Chip. I mean, guys like Joe Areas are eaten good, real good. They just fit in So nice around the Brooklyn star. So to me, I'm taking Brooklyn in the East. And I do think they probably have a move or two to make by the deadline just to shore up that playoff rotation and get it right. And I think they will. Then golfer is joining us. So Ben Mask about the mellow ball 28 games in he's averaging 15 6 and six What do you make of what you've seen from him so far? Well, definitely better than I expected. Anybody who tells you different lying, you know, I think there was a lot of skepticism or a lot of let's see it on the NBA court first, remember, he hadn't played basketball for basically a year before he actually got to join the Charlotte Hornets. You know, just because of you know, Colvin and his stint in Australia and everything else, So there was a real question around the league about okay. What exactly is this guy going to be able to do? On top of that you needed to know how many compromises was he gonna have to make with his style of play? Everybody saw those videos and high school. He's shooting from half court throwing these crazy passes. Is he really going to be locking, you know, able to lock in focus on play, You know, NBA quality to away basketball. I actually think that the style of play this year has played to his benefit overall in the N B. A. You're seeing lots and lots of high scoring games. Lots of loose just attacked the basket type style from different teams. I think apart because you know, these guys are playing so many games in such a short time period. We're not exactly getting a lot of defense of grinders out there. You know, It's a lot of shoot outs in the night tonight basis, so that helped set him up for success. But so much of what he does well has translated. His shot has actually looks better than I expected, which opens up everything for him on offense. He's an unbelievable highlight level pasture. People have seen that in the open court on the lobs, but even the half court too. I mean, he just has a really nice touch. He knows how to wait the ball. He knows how to slide it through multiple defenders, and he makes pretty good decisions for a player as young as he is. No. Charlotte has been looking for an identity for a long time. I mean, they really haven't. I mean, even with Kemba Walker there a few years ago, it really wasn't that type of name that type of presence that would put them on the national stage. I think if you're coming around to next year, and you're circling some of those big national TV days, maybe not Christmas, you know, But you know, maybe some early week opening week Action or Martin Luther King Jr Day or Something's other MBA holidays. They like to highlight. I wouldn't be surprised at all. If LEM L A ball has the Charlotte Hornets on games like that call for joining us, Ben one more topic before I lose. You look at the East. Celtics start 500. You raised the question on the open floor podcast. But do you think they're kicking themselves for not keeping Gordon Hayward? Well, I think you got asked this second guessing type questions right now has anything gone well for them this season? It's just been one thing after another. You know, I've been hearing from Celtics fans always ask him like, what are you most frustrated about? Some will say, you know, Tristin. Thompson wasn't exactly what we thought we were getting. You know, the idea of Tristan Thompson coming over in the off season to help out the front court wasn't quite as as good as what they had hoped. I think some other people would say, Well, you know Gordon Hayward. It was a weird fit. But you know, now that we've had all these injuries or guys air in and out of the lineup, or maybe Jason Tatum misses a little time for the health protocols. All the sudden, you really miss Ah, Player and Gordon Hayward, who you thought maybe was expendable. Previously, I think some other people would point the finger at Campbell Walker and say this season coming back off of any issue. He just hasn't been the same guy and their entire formula is relying upon him being like a star level player in the backwards Get it done. So I'm seeing a lot of panic. A lot of frustration from the Celtics fans, especially because there are 500 right now they just take a loss of the Washington Wizards. I mean, that will make you look in the mirror and start to ask the big questions. Then I will say this the number one thing I see missing from the Celtics lately. It's Marcus Smart. I mean, I know this guy is not like a top 10 top 15 level player, but they are so much better when he's on the court. He does all the little things winning players like the Celtics fans like to call it, but he also covers up for so many of his teammates. Mistake's. I mean, he's just so good and unselfish at doing that. You know to me, I think what they can get him back from this leg injury. Things will look different, but I do think coming into this season. I expected Boston to kind of only Eastern Conference to me. The Brooklyn Nets took that away from them with the James Harden trade, and now they're sort of lesson this spot. Well, are we true contenders? Are we just hoping to be contenders do we have to play for next year? Those kinds of existential questions. They weren't expecting that this year, you know, coming off of the Eastern Conference finals, and so I do kind of put Boston in that category. One of the biggest disappointment to the league Franklin right. He is a national NBA writer for The Washington Post, the author of Bubble Ball. You Want To Look for that? It's coming Out May host of Grace of all Talking MBA Show host of Open floor Podcast, Ben Gulliver Band. Great to get Caught Up with you. Thanks so much for doing that. I don't do it again soon. Sounds great, man. Ticker. Take care well done. 1 806 368686. All right, So it sets up like this. Now we're open until 10 40. 10 41 40 Jordan Palmer joins me at that time He is the founder of QB summit working with troubled Lawrence and others that's coming up. In fact, we'll go back to back at that part of the program, so this is the best time to get through.
