Gold and precious metals have been on a tear

"If you were a gold bug. This is your time. Gold has been around or above or near record level prices for us several weeks now and. Gold is always a safe haven. In Times of uncertainty, distress or fear. And you think about it right now, we have all three of those things going on not just in the United States, but around the world. And so you gotTa whist you know a lot of people worried about. The US and China. Getting tangled up in ways that are unintended that could be violent. And People. Worry about the big budget deficits, we have people worry about what corona virus is. GonNa do in terms of meaningful long term damage to our economy and others overseas, and anytime, you can come up with a list like I just did that probably cause anxiety and you just while I was lying it out. People, run to things like gold and silver, and platinum and. Various Forms. Of Precious. Metals. As a place to kind of hide out. There are also people that are true gold Blah. Bugs who believe that gold is the answer to every investment question. Goes. It's is something you can actually hold and have. And know that it's there for you through thick or thin. So, as I've said all through the years. Gold something that is a hedge as with the silver and other precious metals be. and. So having them is part of what you're about is fine. you can have gold precious metals is a reasonable portfolio. If you've got assets somewhere around ten percent of what you invest in remember gold doesn't really serve any purpose other than as a proxy for store. Of value, there's some amount gold that's used in jewelry, but the reality is gold is much more about. You having something. that. is a place for you to have some comfort. Reduce your levels of anxiety and maybe certain times make money. But gold being and record territory. Even if records keep being broken over the next many months you're buying at a time that gold is already had a huge runup. So putting too much store into gold. go back just. Gosh Oh what a year and a half ago or something gold was nearly half the value that it is today. People who hold it over time as a percent of their portfolio. Ride, up and ride the down. But if buy now you're buying, ask time peak anxiety. And somewhere likely and the range of. Peaking. Territory. Even though again, it could go up a fair amount from here the odds are. That the best days of holding it as a speculative thing or over, and so it needs to be part of a strategic way of thinking with money and it is true. We can put together any of us. Can put together a list of things to worry about right now and raise our anxiety level. And although the world always has a certain amount of things to be anxious about. Well, right now has a little bit more. But the thing is. The real money and value over time is made as an investor. In things that people produce ideas, products, goods, services of various types. In Gold. Just sits there even costs money to do something with it to store it safely. So I got no problem with you being into this a little bit. I've got lots of problems with you. Putting a huge amount of money. You've got into gold or other precious

"This is from spot in California, and Scott says living here in California. Many homes have installed solar panels. However, there seemed to be so many different options. How do I know if I should buy or lease or what to ask companies to make sure that they're reputable? Has Clark of her research solar panels. If I have a research solar panels, I am broadcasting from my home studio. And the power to our house is being provided by the panels we have. I'm so into it. Unfortunately, we had The land to do so. We have a solar farm at our house instead of rooftop panels, and so we have a huge install. Love panels because that's how much I'm into it. I also have A strong feeling that unless you're offered A sweetheart deal on at least You want to do a purchase of solar panels? There are There are some sweetheart deals. On the so we're leasing. And if you do find one of those And it really makes sense for you to do that. You can go for that. On the other hand, if you don't find Ah, really fantastic. Opportunity for you to do at least then for long term benefit. It's to your advantage for you to just pay for that thing. And have that so We're available to you. One other thing that has changed so much is that there's enormous benefit if you do put sore on your house. To add to it battery back up. Pretty much everybody offers. Battery backup systems who install so we're now And the reason is there's been a political movement in the country to try to Um hurt people installing so where their houses By mistreating you on what happens during the times of day that you're generating excess power from your panels that they cheat you on that. At the utility company. And so having your own battery that you store excess power on protects you from power outages. Man gives you the full benefit of all the power your panels can handle. I also wanted to mention that Tesla Which has been a £98 weakling. In solar Has now become the most aggressive price wise on installing solar on people's homes. And so it's a good idea to get a quote from Tess Lola. Is well is other players if you're considering going solo Joel. Our gym in Georgia says What happened to that promise you made a few years back. The average cell phone bill would be around $10 by now. Well. There are $10 cellphone plans. But they're not robust, so I was wrong on the overall cellphone bill being 10 bucks because At the time I made that prediction data was not a big part of the action. Now, most of us pay much more for the data side of our cell phone bill. Then we do calling and texting. If you look at the pure calling and texting It Turns out, I was pretty spot on with the pricing. But because of the data side Most of us if we and for many of us unlimited data is what we need. The effective cost of that on a family plan is roughly for unlimited talk text and data. Works out to be about 25 a month for an individual shopping around, you're going to pay about 40 to $50 a month for unlimited plans. So my 10 a month was a false promise based on my lack of understanding how important data would become Him Lane in California says at stores when they asked me to donate for cause dissolved that money, go to charity. Or does the store take a handling fee? Um, I doing the right thing by donating at a store. So this is something that kind of works out for everybody. I'm not aware of any store that skims off any of the money that they're collecting for a charity. And the store takes the money that you donate. They give it to whatever organization it is, And then they get enormous positive publicity that the store gave blah, blah, blah amount of money to whatever cause even though the money actually came From you. Self storage units having a tough time

"Americans love. Renting storage facilities. And it's something that the whole rest of the world shakes it's heads at because we have. Every square footage per person residential space that is the largest in the world the average size of a house has gone up so much over the last two generations even though the number of people per household has gone way down. But at the same time in addition to our places we live, we have all these self storage facilities and there are any of a number of reasons why we would have them. The industry historically has. Rented to people who are going through some kind of life change a relocation some as passed away could be a, you know a family splitting apart. There there are a number of reasons why people might rent a storage facility in addition to just having to might stuff and they store it. Well. One of my kids recently was. Considering renting a storage facility for six months and. Shopped around and found such differences from one location to another it was a stunner. And then. The places would not leave her alone. Once, she had contacted someone they were desperate. To have her rat. And we're offering all kinds of discounts and deals in free months and I was what's going on? Well. It turns out the big issue is the industry's gotten too big. According to industry data than number of storage places has gone up twenty five percent in about a ten year period and you look all around. Urban and suburban areas around the country in you see these much bigger storage facilities being built and many times at prime corners where they're visible Wada Times freeway exits, and so the industry has outgrown itself and then I I saw an eight M in the new. So we Aben. Shopaholics, and is shared with you over the last several months. The amount of shopping doing has been going down down down. So if you have a storage facility. The you're renting at. I know it's a hassle to move your stuff. But go re shop what you're paying. You'll find potentially a much lower prices than what you're currently paying. You can go back to the people you're renting from and say, Hey, I'm going to bail on you because I found a deal. You know right down the street for half of what you're charging. And odds are they can't afford to lose you. And they'll offer you a deal to keep you

"I wanted to talk about food stamps. which there aren't actually stamped books anymore it's a, it's a card that referred to as the snap. And? The Food Stamp Program. provides. Subsidies basically with the ability a kind of like an electronic voucher. To get food when you need it when you've had a terrible loss of income. And the ideas to make sure that you have. Food to eat so you don't starve. And there are people who? Feel very much like it's not their thing. To get food stamps, but these are unusual times. You. Know none of us 'cause Corona virus but it is had facts that have been so severe financially on many tens of millions of Americans. And so there are a number of states. Where big percents of the population are going hungry by some guesses as much as a roughly twenty percent of people around the country it's gas that roughly about ten percent of people on average. Are Short of food to provide three meals a day. And so. Food stamps or something there. For. You. and. I I don't want you to have. A roadblock in your mind that keeps you from getting that now. Don't feel like it's a wrong thing or bad thing the irony which most Americans don't know. Is The food stamp program originally was designed not to deal with hunger, but to deal with problems that farmers were facing. Getting, food for getting money for the food they produced, and so the program did not start off civically to address hunger but to level out income, give more certainty for income for the nation's farmers. So please don't turn your nose up at this help. If, it can make a difference for you and your family.

Overworked pharmacists making more prescription mistakes

"This month. We. Had someone who was a former pharmacist Talk about the pressures of having been in the industry, they're short staffing and. The dangers that short staffing and pressure to fill so many prescriptions causes. And that intersects with a story I talked about a couple years ago. About how often? Prescriptions, they you get at a pharmacy or inaccurate. That either you've been given the wrong med or the wrong dose of Matt. I want to make it clear. Pharmacists work their tails off. And it's a business. where? A minor. what you could call clerical error. In dosage or a lot of medicines have similar names or a doctor May handwritten script instead of submitting it electronially. and. The name of the medicine is similar to another one there any of another number circumstances? They can lead to an error. That could kill somebody. Well in Oklahoma. Scott. Unwelcome publicity for CBS recently. Oklahoma has fine CVs because of a pattern. Of errors in CVS locations. With errors made and filling prescriptions with health consequences for patients for customers problems with staffing. All the rest and this is an ongoing problem. The and I'm not specifically talking about CVS but this is a problem because of the issues involved with staffing. The low margins that it may not feel like margins when you go to fill a MED, but the the prescription business has become a very difficult business to generate profits just ask independent pharmacists what they face trying to keep their doors open and make even a nickel on a prescription. So. The financial pressures have led to. Essentially unofficial quotas. That put. On reasonable levels of pressure on pharmacists to fill meds with. The point for you. And for me. With any MED that's being filled please. What closely at the label One simple thing to do is if you're ever handed a paper script that you're taking to a pharmacist. Take a picture of that script on phone. When you get the MED. Compare what's on the label on the MED? To what the script said that the doctor had written that he or she gave you. If isn't `electronic submission that's not gonna be as easy but if you're taking a maintenance mad. You know the name of the MED. And you know the dosage. I have to fill my meds through One of those p. b. m.'s pharmacy benefits manager where the prescriptions come in the mail. And every time they come. I. Look at them very closely and there's a maintenance mad i. take that is. A generic now. And seems every three months when I got my ninety day supply. The pill looks different than it did the time before. So I always looking at it to make sure that the description on the label is the right met. because. If, you take the wrong matter in the wrong dose. The. Consequences really could be. Losing your life or losing your health. So. I feel so bad. For the people work as pharmacists at the chains. "Amazon. Has Developed a shopping cart. Is Most. People aren't aware Amazon very quietly. Is Opening, Amazon branded supermarkets. And they're doing just a few around the country is they've really failed with whole foods they're trying to come up with an Amazon branded supermarket and the shopping carts. Automatically. Know, what you have in your cart. And when you're done shopping. You just walk right out of the Amazon Grocery. So you don't even stop at a cashier. And the one thing you have to be as you have to be registered with Amazon. With the APP on your phone. And then it knows who you are when you come in knows how you're going to pay. And then the heart I know this is freaky and weird but the cart. Automatically Is. To Register each item. That has gone in there. It's called the the Dash Cart. And when you're done. You're done just go straight to your vehicle. Walmart. Amazon's rival. Is rumored to be coming out with an? Addition, to. Their APP. Where registered shoppers and it's not clear what category that's going to be will be able to. Check out of the store on their own right on their phone. It's not as easy. As what Amazon's offering very similar if you are a Sam's club shopper and have used their self-checkout. On your phone and it's great. Because allows people who know how much money they can spend to not get to the register and say, Oh, I don't have enough money for that. Were you take that off you take that off, take that off you. As you go along, you're able to ring things up. You know what they're going to cost what your total bill is and the rest, and this puts cashier jobs at risk obviously. But, the. Retailer. Is Looking to create a more efficient environment, and then the other aspect that's been rumored is that they're trying to deal with people's fears of human contact right now with corona and that's why. They're going to offer people the ability to ring up their own purchases completely different than self-checkout. This is just reading the Barcodes as you go on your phone with a running total. Walgreens is adding doctors offices across the country

"I'm so glad taken time out of your day to join us here on the Clark Howard Show where our goal is simple. It is to empower you with knowledge, so you can keep more of what you have. Our websites are Clark Dot Com and Clark deals dot com. And we have been through. A real time with medicine lately. cash the people who work. In medicine. Doctors nurses, other medical professionals and personnel who worked in medical facilities have been putting their lives on the line. To save as many lives as they can during corona virus. And one of the things that has been. Clear through the time of the pandemic. Many people in America. Don't have a regular place to go. When they need medical attention. And so a lot of times, those people have sought care. For Corona virus much later than others it many times with terrible terrible results, possibly loss of life as a result of the delay. And so we've got a broken equation. In the United States in spite of the incredible heroic efforts of so many people. In medical. We've got a lot of people who start with the handicap, and that is lack of regular access to medical care, so there's been. A lot of experimentation going on, Walmart has been opening Walmart health centers. And they are going to increase the number of centers they offer, and I've talked about how CBS. Is Opening medical. Facilities as well that are. Retail oriented like the Walmart, when as well and now walgreens. Has announced that they're going to open. Somewhere around seven hundred doctors offices. That will be inside. Walgreens stores or attached to them. and. The design of what Walgreens is doing. Is that the overwhelming? Majority of locations that are going to be open our locations that are. was. It's called on board that there's a lack of primary care doctors. In Zip codes or areas. In urban suburban and rural areas where the doctor's offices are going to open. In the Walgreens, so this is. Part of migration in how medical care! At the primary level. is going to be offered in the United States where. You're going to have more and more. Retailers who are connected directly to medicine like walgreens and CVS, and then those who only indirectly or connected to medicine like Walmart. Getting involved in the delivery of medical care, the one of the six. Factors in each of these. Is What economists call price transparency where you will know. When you walk in the door what it's going to cost? For the care, you're likely to receive and gave an example about where walgreens. Kinda went off the tracks with this. Two years ago where? Walgreens was doing what CVS was doing with. Nursing a box facilities where they had the nurse practitioners. In the offices in the. In the pharmacies and CVS has stayed on that course will walgreens and a lot of places has sold off those facilities to. Dominant hospitals in an area. And the hospitals use it as a feeder tool to get more patient admissions to their hospitals, and as I, did in a story I did for television I looked at the pricing at. The facilities when they switch from being a Walgreens Ryan essentially nursing a box to a feeder for hospitals, and you no longer had the ability to just see a price list. You no longer had pricing anything. That was approachable anymore. Once those spaces flipped and became. With hospitals and so having. The involvement and the design from the ground up. where? Someone can come in, and they know what it's going to cost, and they know that someone's available to see seven days a week and longer than banker's hours. That's where we're headed with primary care, and it's one of the ways we can make a big difference in what health care costs moving forward and the outcomes for people. When they see someone early instead of delayed care at hospital emergency room, which is not where someone should be getting primary care any day of the week.

Garmin breach has major ramifications

"There's a big data breach that going on right now. It's actually worse than that. It's a full ransomware attack on an American company that most of US know only for fitness trackers and that's Garmon, but Garmon is really much more important company to Defense Aviation and marine life than any of us know, because most of us would not. Be Aware of all the things that garments involved in so odds are the huge attack on garments computer systems. was really from likely a foreign power trying to disrupt the United States so a lot of airplanes that rely on garments. Systems can't fly right now. it may affect shipping. Don't know on that yet, and for those of us like me. I've worn a garment fitness tracker for nine years. All our data's lost in space, and it's unclear whether it will ever be seen again now. This is something that's going to affect this corporation in some activities A. A lot fitness obsessed people are you should see him on message boards? They're going crazy, but this to me is a clear warning to you. Why I've said things like Make sure you go back to paper statements for any bank account and brokerage account anything like that. As the foreign state actors get more and more sophisticated it being able to find vulnerabilities in key computer systems, and with companies imagined the disruption. They could cause with your. Retirement accounts investment accounts, your bank accounts anything like that by being able to invade the systems and try to actively wipe out records so I. Know Everybody in the financial services. Industry is trying to get you. To go to paperless. The problem with paperless is unless you print out records. Use Your Printer. You're INC to do that. You may find yourself at a time where they get hit. And in turn. You get hit because you have no documentation of you have what you had so. When I see how upset people are just about their fitness records, not being available to them and I wasn't happy about not having my nine years of records at least for now. It is nothing compared to how you'd feel? If suddenly you didn't have access to your money,
