"So far from the U.S. open. Haven't had a major shock yet, Joel, have we? Apart from podcast go losing. No, she's a dark horse, I think, now. That was a very, very good win. I mean, the handshake, as always, left a little bit frosty. Be desired, yes, I'll speak, I just wanted to get off the court. She was already on her side of the net, I think, before giving the handshake. So yeah, she wasn't particularly happy, but quite an entertaining match to that one. I mean, just on the women's side show or big shot, muguruza won. I mean, we were all predicting part also to win that one. A Miguel ruther has won, which, I mean, does this mean, am I getting carried away, but does this mean she's not just going to go and win the whole caboodle, 'cause she's got through. We say this every time. But we can't, I just say that we can say that. Well, I just think very much at the moment with muguruza that I think she was a player. I would say like kvitova where she could just go on a run and win a tournament. And kvitova has shown that she got to the she got to the final of what was she got to the final Cincinnati, didn't she? Like. Toronto, I think. Was it Toronto? Yeah, I think? Yeah. But I think with muguruza now, we've just got to take based on the season chat. We've just got to take one match at a time and it was a very good win against Clara torsen. Both players very, very big hitting. That second set was very, very tight, toss and arguably should have pushed it to a third, but yeah, muguruza was impressed with given all the losses she's had this season. I just thought, you know, she was just being so fragile that I thought torsen was just going to break through and you did feel that if she had nabbed that second set, she would have had all of the momentum and maybe have run away with it. So for muguruza to get that done in two sets and in the tie break in that second set, yeah it was very, very impressive even though on paper as the night seed you'd have expected her to come through anyway. Yeah, just a correction. You were right, because it did reach the final of Cincinnati. Yeah, I don't know why I thought it was the other one. So apologies, listeners. I mean, Sri von tec is through comfortably today as well, perhaps we thought she might have a bit of a bogey match given her recent form, but yeah, comfortable over Jasmine paulini 6 three 6 love. Yeah, I had really good rhythm. She was very happy, I think, with her performance in the first round. So perhaps she's just gonna zone into old shield tech mode. I don't know. Early days. I love the fact I was reading. She has now got a bagel. She's now sorry, secured a bagel in all of the first round matches. She's played at Grand Slam level this year. So she's dished out four bagels in four round one matches, including against paulini. So yeah, spat to kind of those that formidable field tech. I mean, paulini, on her date, yes, can be a little bit tricky, but yes, she on tech just a bit too much. I think we're all now looking forward to she's feeling tech Sloan Stevens second round, Sloane Stephens coming through greet men and today had a very, very slow start was got broken, got broken again, was 5 love down, lost the first set 6 one, but then kind of found her rhythm and, yeah, came through 6 three 6 three and sets two and three, but yeah, really intriguing match up now between a former U.S. open champion in stone Stevens and the world number one, iguazu tech. Yeah, and a potential feature U.S. open champion. I mean, I thought it was interesting. In her post match interview was saying that in other tournaments, when the top seeds have buys in the first round, you're coming in and your first matches against someone who's already played a match or if it's a qualifier a couple of matches. I mean, obviously you can play a qualifier in the first round of Islam as well. But she was saying it kind of when you were at Islam and you're just in the first round proper and your other opponent is also playing their first match. It's more of a level playing field, whereas the regular events on the tour where as the top seed you're coming in with a buy, you might come up against someone who's like super tuned in from that just having played another match already. Perhaps there's an argument just to get rid of buys at the 1000 events, 500s, et cetera. I know it's been raised before, but perhaps some players would benefit and we know with the depth of the women's game that it's obviously the first round you can be up against some cracking opposition. So you probably really want to be as honed in as you can be, but yeah, just I thought an interesting point, maybe that, I don't know, I know it's been raised before, but yeah, maybe going forwards, they'll maybe they could trial it. But yeah, let's look at some other results from the women's side day Carolina is through. That was a last set tiebreak. She had to win that on against magda linette. Who did lead four one in the third set? But also was up in that tie break. And then I think 7 two up in the tie break, Lynette came back to 8, 7 in the tie break, and then pushed her grab the last three points.

"This time a year ago, I don't know who we would have predicted, but it certainly wouldn't have been Emma rata. One of the greatest stories in sports ever, I don't know if we're going to see something of that scale this year. Happening at the U.S. open, but well, let's have a look and see if anything might be possible. Let's start with the first quarter of the draw. The top seed, world number one. Not the easiest of drawers. She hasn't had the greatest of form of late. Jesse pagola is in this section of the draw, also Petra kvitova, who's in good form of late Amanda and nismo, perhaps a lurking perhaps she could be going on a run here. I don't know. Chris, what are your initial thoughts? Where do you feel that she on tech is heading? Do you think she'd be happy with the draw that she's been given? I think it's a mixed bag for her, really. I think every match is kind of tricky, especially at the start of a slam, and I think that the first first round match, I think, is a good first round match. I think you wouldn't necessarily want to see slowed Stevens as a potential second round opponent. You were always going to say that. I was wondering shall I interrupt and be like, Kim, you haven't said slow. And then I thought, no, no, no. I'll wait my time. I weigh my time, a white patiently. But slow at the U.S. open, even if she has gone out to players, she has played very well when she's gone out. I think at the U.S. open. So I'd love to see that match because I think it was entertaining when we saw it the other week. And I think that that would be a good one to sink our teeth into that, especially that would be great for the tournament and for viewers. I think fans would love that one. I am backing in a sim over a little bit here. I think that it's a really good draw for her. She hasn't played that much, and I'm not really sure what her formal level is like, but I do think she's put together a really, really fantastic season after obviously going through some personal tragedy, following a breakout season, and I think that playing in front of home fans with that added support. I think she could do something really special. And I think the same is true for Jesse pagola, I think. She's put together some great results, some great results and grand slams, great results in American hard courts. I think as well. So I think that between the Americans, I think they might be fighting for this quarter. I'm a little bit sad about Jesse pegula because or not Jesse puget, more Elise mertens because mertens could face peculiar in round three and I think that would break mertens is incredible, round four streak potentially. It's around three streaks, so we're in the clear gel, we're in the clearest round three. Oh, is it round three straight? Otherwise. That would have been headline news exactly. But yeah, no, pigeons are real, yeah, one to watch, I think, in this top quarter, particularly because this eager stream on tech doesn't feel like the all conquering eager field tech, we saw those months ago, we are not particularly on the clay season. A couple of first round matches I'm interested in, garbine muguruza versus Clara torsen. I mean, we all know muguruza's struggles on the tour recently put a lot of wins here. I think she's only had one win at grand slams this year. Against Clara torsten in the first round again, that it for me is a very, very tough match up and I would not be surprised if torsen comes away with a victory there and I don't know. A social media announcement from muguruza saying that she split with a coach. I don't know, but for me, that is a very tough opening match. And we've also got Yelena oster penko versus Qing Wen zheng, who did so well earlier on earlier on in the season that the was it at the French Open. Oh yes. Yes, she had that 5. Oh no, she had the injury, didn't she? She was playing against spontaneity at the French. Yes. Exactly. I think those are two players, and two seeded players, osteen, muguruza, who could potentially be going out early and I think, again, open up this drawer for the players around her, including who knows Petra kvitova who, again, had a great week in Cincinnati. Yeah, I feel that muguruza, if she, if she beats tours and I'd be really surprised and certainly, I don't see 30 states here going far at all based on recent form. But no one's mentioned sphere canon and on a wild card, interestingly, she's got a reason Kim. You'll need Maya of Wimbledon fave in the first round. Well yeah, I've been canon and it's a moment could be the second round, but I don't know. I feel like she's getting there. It's a bit serious I feel for canon, right? Perhaps. Yeah. Well, she is a she is a Grand Slam champion. What about Bernard apert? I feel like the Bernard bearer hype died a few weeks ago when she had all the duo. She was winning all those matches, you know, winning what packed it to back titles. Not really been spoken about. Again, she's unseated here, got calling her in the first round. Perica vitova potentially in the second round again. That could be a quite an interesting playing the semifinal. Interesting. She's playing the semifinal of tennis in the land. Tonight, she's playing that. And she actually took out canon and I saw her tweet that said, the first person to take a set off para since before doesn't know the French Open or something crazy.

"Be a real shame if Emma goes ahead with this. I mean, it's pretty harsh work. Do you really think the Kremlin are going to care that much about what Emma radical who is doing or who she's employing? I mean, I think that's a bit much. The only thing that maybe of sort of more practical reason is the fact that apparently personal was sometimes not able to get visas to travel with a neck on debate. I guess because of the situation. So I assume he's okay to get into the U.S. and I assume that they would know that that's okay having just got together now, but that could be if it's a long-term thing, something she has to consider. And I think the article I was reading, they said that last year personal was asked about Emma changing her coaching situation quite a lot. And he said, oh, if someone from her team, this is his quote, if someone from her team called me now and asked if I wanted to train her, I would tremble with fear because you don't know when you'll be fired. So obviously, you know, he had previously thought all this is a bit much, like the number of coaches she's going through, but he's willing to take it on and who's obviously taking the plot and I hope it works out for them. He's quite a colorful character. I always remember he had some great matches with Tim henman. When he was back on the back on the tour, but yeah, I think he knows the game. This is not just an Emma situation. We see this with lots of other players, coaching, coaching on the tour. It's a ruthless and brutal landscape and we're talking about this as if like this could be next big coach, but the reality is it could just be two weeks and it didn't work out and we move on. So we just don't really know, but I think at the moment, given what we know about rady Carney, we had an episode with Mike Dixon from the daily mail about his book on Emma. And her appetite for the game and she's always, I think, willing to kind of trial and test new avenues, regardless of if people are going to kind of look down upon it, for example, test not being from Russia, but given that she just has that sort of appetite to learn. I think she just kind of sees right through that and I do think there is something there that personal and Emma could potentially Jell-O the given both their styles I think do sort of go hand in hand with each other and the sorts of players as well I think the Tesla has already coached. I think we've had a carnival can be molded into that sort of vein as well. Yeah, well, watch this space. Let's see what happens over the next 6 weeks. On more positive, well, I don't know if this is positive news, new coach for Emma. Other positive news, Ashbaugh, he got married the other day in a ceremony in Queensland, so that was nice to see the pictures doing the rounds on social media. Marrying her partner, Gary kissick, so yeah, congratulations, ash Barty, even. I love she got married to Gary Cassidy. They met, I think, at met a few years ago now, but he's a trainee professional at brookwater golf club. So you know that golf is not too, it's never too far is it from ash party. You do wonder like, that feels like a relationship that's golf is never going to be too far away, is it? She's going to be on the women's PGA before you know it. What is a 3D professional mean? Does that mean he's training to be a professional or a good question? Good question. Wording. You don't say like, oh, I have a trainee tennis player. Maybe I don't know. I'm not a golfing expert. Listeners, let us know what that actually means. Back to the tennis. We've got Washington, D.C.. This week, which is exciting. ATP 500 event that is. And we've also got two 50 there for the women as well. So yeah, mixed event, which is great. We've got WTA 500 in San Jose, and we've also got Los cabos. For the men, two 50, which incidentally, if you comparing the two men's events, Los cabos has the higher the higher the higher names would you say, well, it's got Daniel Medvedev. At the very least, which is where he's making his debut after his Wimbledon ban. D.C.'s a 500 without a top 5 male player, Andre Rublev is the top seed there, whereas Daniel Medvedev is number one said a lot of noise going to be following him given he wasn't able to play Wimbledon all his Instagram posts were basically him just relaxing where he was on a boat. Watching the F one. Watching the Formula One exactly. So it will be fascinating to see how he comes back onto the tour. I would imagine it will be pretty seamless, but Kim, I said to you before the podcast, him playing Los cabos. That to me sounds like he got a big, big, big, big appearance fee to play there and not in the 500 in D.C., because he's the top seed there. Cam nori is the reigning champion. He's the third seed. Got ogier aliasing keck manovich as well. But yeah, it's so interesting choice, I think, to go down to Mexico to start to start your hardcore swing. Yeah, and I think this is where cam won his first title, last year, was this the first one, in which case, you know, this is kind of a remarkable 12 months he's had. Feliciano Lopez also there on a World Cup. That could be another petition idea actually. Feliciano Lopez were wild cards for Kim, he gets too many already. Well, okay, he should give some to Fernando Verdasco then. They could share them. Okay, I can agree with you on that. Going back to the ATP 500, I think Kyle Edmund is back on call. He's actually playing at the moment on at the city open in D.C., or he may have just. He's won. He's won. Of joy. Well done. Yeah, he was a breakdown in that second set. He managed to clutch it in the tiebreak ten 8. So he is through. So that's very, very good for him. He's into the round of 32. I mean, Andy Murray, Dan Evans, Jack Draper, is also there. He's got Stefan kozlov on a wild card in the first round. So a lot of British interest. And yeah, the two 50 as well is not patrol for a WTA two 50. We've got Simona Halep there. She also won today Emma raducanu is the second seed with Jesse pigula as the top seed. Now Kim, I was a bit thankful because bukva was meant to be radika news opponent in the first round, but because she did so well last week, winning in the Czech Republic. She has decided to drop out. So Emma's got a qualifier, which seems on paper a little bit easier. So that I'm hoping is quite a nice gentle opener before potentially who knows, could face Sophia kennan who's on a wild card just coming back onto the tour after a few months what feels like in hibernation. That could potentially be a second round match. Yeah, that would be cool. Venus Williams also got a wild card. She's in the drawer. Harriet darts there. I think she could have a pretty decent few matches, potentially. And Brad koni is playing doubles as well with Clara torsen, which that has not she's not done that in her professional career so far. So nice to see that she's not just thinking about who, you know, who's going to be my next coach to kind of add more thinking and knowledge to her game. I like that that she's moved also into the doubles arena to get more experience from a different sort of angle. Maybe that's a person of suggestion there instant effect maybe. And then San Jose, which is a 500 for the women Zachary and bido are the top two seeds there. So we will see who comes through that one. I mean, who else have we got at that one? Name a sark has got Qing Wen zheng, which could be quite a fun first round match. Shelby Rogers also got Bianca and rescue. And ryback akina by Burkina cassock keener could be quite a fun first round match as well.

"She's the top seed there. I've people have commented that she's got a Russian player, Potter pover in the first round. So it providing a sort of a very emotional backdrop to that match and then Layla Fernández is the second seed, but Sloane Stephens also in action. So hopefully she can continue her form from this week and get some wins here as well under her belt. Yeah, I think Sloane Stephens, you know, she's in a good, good groove at the moment. So, you know, she could potentially face Fernández in the quarterfinals, so that could be quite an interesting part of the draw. Is there, so maybe she will get back to her three set of ways in Monterey, but yeah, I think just generally going forward, we're going to be looking at Russian players, Ukrainian players and seeing kind of how they handle this on a court and for svitolina, who, again, has not really had a great start to the season. I'm amazed that she's still the number one seed if I'm being quite Frank. But it adds a new dimension and who knows who knows what way it might go in terms of that emotion, but it will be certainly fascinating to see how that plays out, but I hope yeah, I hope we don't get any sort of protests or any sort of thing that happens during this heightened kind of moment. Certainly feels like it's obviously very fresh in people's minds and any sort of Ukraine versus Russia match up in sport I think is going to have just sort of extra extra eyeballs on it and a Potter even though what two months ago that might have been a match that would have been on a maybe on an outside court or it would have been televised or whatever just gone on like a regular match. Now it just has a lot of, it feels like it just has a lot of significant meaning, doesn't it? Yeah, and I think in Leon as well, everyone will be sort of looking towards your who's managed to get a wild card so I don't know how emotionally she will be on a tennis court. I wish her all the best and wish her well, but it must be hard to focus on tennis when your family are back in Ukraine and all of this is going on. So yeah, there's certainly. It will, I'm sure impact on various players, performances, Camila Georgia is the top seed at this event castella is the second seed. So yeah, I notice Ali's corneille has lost already today. So her good start of the year has taken a bit of a dip already. She sort of going back to old ways. Maybe she will retire now. I mean, that bottom half of that drawer is very, very open. All the qualifiers, all 6 qualifiers are in that bottom of, I believe, actually, Katie balter also qualified, so good on her for getting into the main draw. Defending champion Clara torsen is not there. So I wouldn't be surprised Kim, if we have a first time another first time WTA champion here, it feels very, very open and Georgie and castella as your top two seeds. We both know both those players could be very erratic at the best of times, so for them to both get to the final feels far from a far from a certainty. I'm going to pluck Anna congee out of the list and say she's going to win. 6th seed Croatian. But I'm quite intrigued to see what Caroline Garcia might be able to do. She knows she beat Halep last week. She's got her in the first round. So, and I think this is pretty much her home tournament, Leon. So I sure wish her well and on that note, Joel, I think it is time for us to bring today's blockbuster episode to a close. "We also had Clara torsen, one of my favorites came that we always always bring up on the pod. She grabbed her first career third round Grand Slam birth with a win against Annette cultivate the 6th seed 6 two 6 four again another very ruthless ruthless one hour and 19 minutes. Yeah, I mean, this felt to me maybe a little less surprising, but at the same time, both players I think have been playing some very, very good tennis recently, but tolson is just underlining, I think that again, perhaps I radically at the end of last season this will be you could arguably be sad. Tools last season was her breakout season, but she is just going to go up and up the rankings. Yeah, and this I mean, this match, I think, surprised me just because the way come to finish last season and how she seemed to have started in her first match here. I think this wouldn't have surprised me so much if you've come to be in the contemplate of a year ago. And I think it's a shame, actually, because controversy obviously both finished last season very strongly and they've both been obliterated off the court today. I think it's the manner of the school lines really straight sets. But yeah again, like corneille, Clara tossing today, everything went very well. She just hitting winners, left right and center serving. Well, just kind of one of those days where it all boxes ticked and it all comes off nicely. In the third round, she's playing Daniel Collins, perhaps it's not going to be one of those days. She could try and go for all her shots and they may not come off. So perhaps they're a bit of a hit and miss, but I mean, if she can keep this form and execution of her tennis up, then I see her getting through Collins as well. He was a very tough battle. But I think tossing has the potential to go deep and perhaps she'll be inspired by what radically did in New York and think, well, you know, maybe this is my time because she did win the girls event here in 2019. So quite recently, really. To want a title at this event albeit a junior slam. I think she's one to watch. To see how deep she can go. Yeah, I mean, she's got a nice, yeah, nice match up against Daniel Collins, both of those players. I think we'll see that as an opportunity of our big opportunity making the forefront. And as I said, we've got Elena ryback in the 12th seed, unfortunately she had to retire due to a foot injuries. She was 6 four one love down to Zhang shuai of China. He's got to the quarterfinals at the Australian open before. But yeah, yeah, a bit annoying, I think, for ride back and because I think a lot of us were again sort of talking about her, one of these players did not want to face. She was playing some very, very good tennis in the build up to Melbourne. And yeah, it's unfortunate that her body has got in the way, I think, of her potentially making a deep run in the tournament. Yeah, it's a shame. And I had her down as my finalist. So I maybe put a curse on her and it's a shame because yeah, she seems to start out really well and then maybe get an injury or just things happen. So let's hope she recovers quickly and can be back on tour and picking up that form, which saw her get to was it, I think the I want to say Adelaide final earlier this season against balti. But we did have two other seeds in action today. Saba lenka had another tough day, another tough days on serve. Lots of double faults. But she did come through, which is the main thing one 6 6 four 6 two against jinji Wang. Yeah, coming through after losing that first set, 6 one again serving. I think 12 double faults in that set alone. I think she had about half of those in her first service game. You know, it's about winning ugly sometimes. And if she can play her way through to maybe the second week and gradually work on that serve and just do what she can to actually just get the win. Who knows? She might suddenly turn it all around. I mean, you just don't know. You've just got to get the win at the end of the day, haven't you in these early rounds? Yeah. I mean, she is fighting through. I think this is the first first time she's won from a set down in multiple matches slammed. So it shows, I think the great character, I think she has, she's not just giving up because her serve isn't working. She is finding a way through. And I think, yeah, it's going to obviously you don't want to lose too many sets, 6 one and you have to kind of fight back from such a big deficit and yeah, for sabalenka, the second seed, she's going to want to make sure that she can get a better start quicker because I think that's what some of our other fellow players are doing and eager Schwann tech is one of them who, again, is playing some very, very good tennis at the moment..

"It's pretty unstoppable, but having said that, I feel like if there is one person that could stop it, it's probably ash bharti in front of her in front of a home crowd on rod laver arena. So yeah, that is certainly one I'm looking forward to. I mean, moving on Kim to the second quarter. We have barbora critique of her as the fourth seed Paula but doses in there is the 8 seed, you've got Azarenka, Switzer, Sophia kennen, again, there's lots of, I feel interesting players here who potentially I'm not really sure who's going to end up out of this quarter as the one in the semifinals. Just talking about critique of, I think she's playing this week at the moment. She's got petkovic in the first round. I don't really know who to speak about, because I just feel again. Seedings here. I don't think they really matter in this part of the draw because I just think it could be anyone. Yeah, I'm the same. I've instinctively, I feel like critique of her, but then I just actually just done quite well this week, but hasn't really had to play, I would say the highest caliber of opponents. So it's really hard to gauge I mean Sofia Kennedy is still in there somehow as the 11th seed. I don't know how she's still that seeding. But she's got Madison keys, which I fully expect keys to make that work very much. Yeah, it is a great first round, very interesting, but I think keys would have the edge. Switzerland, I'm not expecting anything from her. She's had an awful start to the season, but also doing well at the moment. Kim, I could arguably see Lena Kenan amber dosa or losing in the first round. I mean, but doses got Tommy and I know she's not the greatest closer, but I think again a player who's very dangerous and not really one you want to face. I mean, we also give Halep a run for money last season and I think that's a tough test for badosa kind of first up. And so yeah, I think this draw is very interesting and quite wide open. I think Citadel is going to dare I say it's probably against Fiona Ferro who is quite a can be quite a feisty player on quite I just think that is her going to be a tough match up. When you're out of form and not really feeling it on a quote, I don't think you really want to come up against someone like a Fiona pharaoh. So who knows what that means for fitter and her chances at the Australian open. I mean, you've also got Kim, I think coco goss been playing quite well at the moment. I know, I think, again, we are off because she lost ash party after being a set and a breakup. But I think she's been playing some pretty good tennis since then. And I wonder whether she could be that player who could potentially kind of come through and regardless of her seeding is number 18. I think maybe she could spring a surprise. You know, we've seen other teenagers do crazy things at grand Sam's recently like emirati kondu and I wonder if that's given inspiration to other people like other teenagers like cocoa coffee like, hey, you know, don't forget about me. And I think the way she's been playing from what I've seen anyway over the last week or so. I think potentially she could be one to watch. Yeah, she's like, yeah, I was there first. I was the first DNA show. You were all talking about me a few seasons ago. She's in the semifinals in Adelaide. So is Madison keys and a badosa and critique or in semis in Sydney? So they are all doing fairly well in the run up Azarenka. Can't forget about Azarenka. I mean, it's just like as always that the women's draw is so wide open. I mean, let's look at the next quarter and the third quarter. I mean, top seeds here would be muguruza and they were the finalists at the WTA finals last season. So I finished the end of the season with a lot of great form. Margaret lost today to Kazakh keener, which is sort of thrown my perception of what she could have done at the AO slightly off. But perhaps the player we should be looking at in this section is Simona Halep, because she obviously won Melbourne, one of the Melbourne events last week. And seems a bit kind of rejuvenated. She seems to be back. And I don't know, she's never really done too well at this tournament, but I feel she's got actually a decent a decent draw until potentially muguruza in the fourth round. I mean, Robert Keenan has been doing very well. She did pull out of that match this week after she beat radican who, but I think hopefully that was just a preventative thing. So I'm cruel informed. I mean, she's informed contemplating well, very tough section. This is. Yeah, there's a lot of informed players. I think players who have shown great form like from a standing start, this season like Simona Halep, but there's also plays who I think are carrying on their form from last season like Annette. And I think will be interesting to see how cultivate does as the succeed. You know, she broke in with that crazy streak at the end of last season into the top ten. So that's a position she's not been in before and she'll feel perhaps she'll be under a little bit more pressure as marked person I think in the tour is one of the players who has been playing some serious seriously good ball over the last few months. So be interesting to see how she potentially handles that pressure. She could come up against Clara torsen in the second round, which I'd be quite interested to see. Another youngster who was making very good inroads I felt last season, I'd like to see that kind of match up. Talking of other youngsters came, we've got Emma roddy Kanye as well in this section of the draw. And we've got a Grand Slam champion versus Grand Slam champion in first round, which I feel just happens naturally now in any in any sort of Grand Slam jaw for the women. We've got Sloane Stephens versus emirati Carney. I mean, what do you make of that? Because I could be really harsh about the saint Stevens, but it feels like we've had a car knew that there are obviously people out there being like, is she a one slam wonder? She's already peaked. And that brutal loss against rybi keener, what love and one in her first match out will add credence to that. Yes, it wasn't pretty. I know she's had COVID recently and not had many practice hours on court. But looking at someone like stone Stephens on the other side of the net, you know, dare I say, is that sort of looking a little bit potentially into what your future could be as a Grand Slam champion unseeded.

"And I guess, you know, the comeback is very difficult, perhaps due to his age or just because of the nature of the beast itself. So we don't know what kind of season Federer is in store for next year. How much of him will we're going to be able to see it's a real shame. I have a sneaking suspicion, labor cup, 2022 is in London. I think he's going. I think he's going out then. Yeah, this for me is about him going out on his terms more than, you know, obviously more than him coming back and winning a Grand Slam and putting him himself ahead in the race against Djokovic to Dow. I think everyone, even the most Ardent fed fans that are past that. But certainly I think everyone wants to see him come back and go out on his terms. Now what that looks like is I'm not quite sure, but for me, I feel like that ends at the labor cup, something started and created. And it's part of his legacy. So I feel like that is a natural moment to come to go out, especially if, you know, he can't get back out on the court at center court at Wimbledon. I think the other thing we've got to recognize also is the fact that his ranking is going to drop considerably the more the more time he spends off the court. So, you know, he's going to need probably wild cards, I guess to get back onto the tour. He'll obviously be able to I guess play with a protected ranking. So I think there are all these kind of factors that play once he is able to, you know, get back out on a tennis court and feel like he is return. Feel like he is going to return. I still think we will see that, but time is I think very going to be very, very limited going forward. And to finish up today, Joel, we've had the WTA awards nominations announced for the end of season awards. So we've got certain categories. Player of the year, newcomer of the year, most improved player of the year. Come back player of the year and double steam of the year. So these will be announced, I think, in December, which is exciting, they've got a ceremony at St. Petersburg in Florida. I mean, what do you make of the nominations? Is the nominees? I should say who are you picking for each of those scatterers? If we were doing passing shots, additions of these awards, who would you? I think there are some that are quite obvious for me, player of the year, as party and doubles team of the year critique Verne's signac. Newcomer, most improved in comeback, I feel like a most interesting, because on newcomer of the year, they do have emerging on there. And I know we had a bit of an argument before recording about whether she should have been on there because I think there are players who had shown consistently more across the season than emirati, who obviously has probably hit the highest of highs, particularly in this group of nominations. But I'm certainly looking more, I think someone like a Clara torsen who I think consistently and more evenly across the season is, I think for me, kind of proved herself as I would put as newcomer of the year. Most improved. I feel like you've got to go somewhere like Paola pado or on shibo or cultivate because of the run at the end of the season. And then come back pair of the year is an interesting one, because you've got Suarez Navarro vegan and I would probably go on results wise probably go cognac, but the colossal is Navarro's story in general coming back from cancer is very, very has been very, very impressive in itself. So I think there's certainly different ways you can look at it. Yeah, absolutely. I know what you mean about RADA Kano, she has obviously that amazing tournament at the U.S. open, but I think consistency across the year someone like a clarissa and or even Lee, I love a bit of Anne Lee. I think consistently across the tour, I think they would be more deserving, but I do feel that radically will probably win it because the most amazing win in the champion four exhibition. Yeah. I think player of the year I think Barty you know, it's hard to look beyond her because although of late, you know, she hasn't really done much her win at Wimbledon and she has the most titles this year. So I think absolutely fair do's. Most improved, yeah, I think, really, I mean, Annette's conservative of late, but otherwise I would probably also say, yeah, be dosa or critique. And there's quite a lot in that category I think that's quite enough one. Doubles team of the year, I think that I think I would go with the checks as well, cheekiness and Jakob, I think they've been a star stellar team. Not going to go with Sam Stosur, Kim? Oh, well, I know you would love you love your sams days at 8 year. You should be proud she's made it onto that short list. Oh my gosh. Yes. Oh my gosh, yes. Well, we'll see. We'll see. So maybe I'll start there. But what do you think the past score should be? Yeah. I think this is quite, I think this is quite dare I say an easy one. Graham said, do you think the WTA should do a similar ATP style next gen end of season finals? Think of the matchups. That's a great question, Graham. I know what my answer for this is. Joel, what's your take? I think for me, this is, I mean, I think it would be a fantastic idea. I'm surprised this is even a question. I feel like this should exist. I feel like hopefully with this sort of new collaborative approach between the ATP and WTA dare I say maybe there's an opportunity to combine it into one event maybe. To showcase the best of men and women next gen together. But yeah, I feel like at the moment, you know, given the I mean, we always talk about it the depth of women's tennis. It just feels a little bit of a no brainer. Yes, you've got the WTA top 8 in Guadalajara and yeah, actually the absolutely be the case, but certainly I think there should be a complementary event like they're doing on the ATP side. I mean, if you think about it, you've got players like what rady Kano, coco Goff, Layla, Layla Fernandez, a serious Serrano. Marta caustic, and Lee. I mean, there's so many Clara torsen. It feels like yeah, it's a big opportunity there to make the most of these players who were, you know, coming up the rankings, put them on the radar with a bigger audience in a similar way that the next gen finals are doing for the men. Yeah, definitely. It feels like a bit of a no brainer to me. They used to do one for players who were ranked like 9 to 16. Yes. Second, not a second chance, but the leftovers, I know that sounds like a terrible expression, but I can't think what it was called. That was an odd one was there. Yeah, I don't think they do that anymore, but obviously with the next gen it would be under 21. So those players wouldn't necessarily be in the top 16. So yeah, I think it would be a fantastic idea. And there would be so many interesting matchups and players like all those names you just said. So I've just surprised that, yeah, I guess it's hopefully, you know, they can put some money behind it. Like you said if things are becoming a bit more joined up. But I just think, yeah, it's a missed opportunity, really. At the moment. But perhaps as well, it's because I guess with the ATP, you know, the big three have been so dominant and they really wanted to try and market the next gen as this sort of group of people who were going to take over from the big three, whereas in women's tennis, it's not had that same sort of perhaps that's very different isn't it? We get people breaking through at the age of 18, and that's like a normal normal process on the women's tour. So perhaps that that was the rationale behind it. But I'd still love to see a tournament with the young guns out there. So watch this space, perhaps it will happen in time, but thank you, Graham for getting in touch with us about that. I also just on this note like feel good story of the week, but this isn't really a segment, but did anyone see the 97 year old man who went to play at rappers academy and hit with Rafa.
