"And welcome to another episode appealing parlay. Hickey joined by host. Mike Jess actually has the night off. Which is strange because I've submitted multiple requests to our HR. Which I believe is Mike for time off and fed instead of doing that. He actually gives me more tasks to do. So Mike. What's up with that your emails go. Who My spam folder? For some crazy reason. So I'm I'm not really sorry but I'm a little sorry well anyways just hope you have the night off. You're on on the floor today. Starting off with some some bad news. Unfortunately it was announced on Saturday that Bob Lazier had passed away. At the age of eighty-one Bob Lazier was the rookie of the year for the Indianapolis. Five hundred I believe in nineteen eighty one and he was instrumental in getting the zero partners racing up and running for the Buddy Lazier entry for multiple years during the two thousand ten decade. And obviously the father of Buddy Lazier and chocolate zero both had very good careers themselves so just thinking of the family during this difficult time. Hope everybody's doing well and Bob was fantastic driver in an a fantastic person around on the paddock. And he will be missed. Zero family is incredibly. Nice everybody's always been friendly when I have run into them around the track so very very sad news this weekend in hope the family is hanging in there during these difficult times so with that we will jump right into the first bit of news which came yesterday. I believe so Monday. Texas governor Greg. Abbott gave the go-ahead for Texas Motor speedway to host a race Texas Motor speedway president donor. Eddie gossage said they're working hard on getting a concrete date set. Mark Miles also mentioned that they are discussing doubleheader with Nascar so with that being said and the kind of limited bit of information we have to go off on this matt thoughts what you think of a doubleheader at Texas and the idea as a whole I think from a TV in social media standpoint. I think it's actually a really good idea. You know right now. People around America and around the world are thirsting for something to watch sportswise on TV so much so that every soccer fan has like tuned into the Belarussian Premier League basically which nobody cared about three months ago but now it's like one of the most Popular Leagues World. Just because they're actually playing story now So the idea of doing double header to me would generate a lot of hype and a lot of attention and I think it could be beneficial more self indy-car. I'M OBVIOUSLY NASCAR. Has a bigger following at this moment so Getting some of the NASCAR fans attuned any car would be beneficial for for our side of it and Just as as a whole just be nice to you. See the race again. Obviously you know things have to happen slowly right now. That totally get it. It's just GonNa be nice to come to the day where we get to see racing on. Tv again yeah. I agree from a from not at everything going on in the world. Right now view double header if it. It gets an extra race in there and get things moving. Great I do worry about a double header and the number of people that would be at the racetrack when whenever it happens. Especially if it's early June but I'm not against doubleheaders at all. I think Texas would be a really cool place to do it but iming wise. I don't know if if they're saying June like they're like the governor was kind of intending. That's that's a lot of people to put in in one race track even if you do it without fans and let's say nobody's allowed to to pit stop so it's just a sprint race for each series. I don't know it's still a lot of people. Yeah and that could go off on a tangent about kind of the political side of. What's happening right now is just. It's just a tough situation that we're all in. It's it's really tough to determine like when it's going to be okay so it's just something that we're just gonNa keep our eyes on and at this present moment on having a doubleheader with fans there is the best ideas that's kind of where. I tried to focus my answer on the social media and TV. Side of how. There'd be a lot of hype but yeah it'll be interesting to see what they decide. Based on the recommendations of the officials who have prior knowledge to everything in have been studying. What's been happening around the world? Yeah I I definitely agree with you. I think you are one hundred percent correct and don't get used to me saying that but yeah I I if it happens I definitely would be interested. Obviously everything I said before stands but we will move onto a quick fan question from Brian Berg which came in on twitter at some point last week. Brian wants to know. Do you think Roger. Penske has a minimum amount of races. That need to be run for the two thousand twenty season. First off Brian We got your question last week. Goes to my fault that we didn't get to it so blame me. Don't blame microdots was telling me but thank you for your question. I don't believe we're going to have a set number of races that Roger Wants to get to if we look at the history of Indycar. I believe other than the IRO season. Whether it's three races while transitioned from the split I think the lowest number we've had is nine so I don't know if based on precedent if that has anything to do with it but you know there's certain venues that are gonna WanNa host and there's certain venues based on policies government and whatnot that physically can't host. They've been saying in California that Los Angeles may not host anything for the rest of the year. So that would obviously impact you know maybe a Laguna Seca F. It becomes a state wide thing. So it's tough to tell. I not sure they're going to have a set number. I think they're just GONNA try to fit in the races that they can fit in based on everything. That's happening. Yeah I think precedent is kind of tough to look at Yariel. Irl Merger was definitely a unique situation with only three races. I would guess somewhere in the eight to ten range would probably be rogers hopeful ideal if this Kobe. Nineteen stretches to the summer or early fall. They can squeeze in eight to ten races somewhere. But that's a total guests and Brian. Thanks for the question getting it in last week. We don't we don't have to blame at. It's all positively this week. What I know it's weird. Just wait till it gets my xbox race last night moving on we're going to recap the I'll end a. You said you never agree with me. What kind of sauces at restaurants do you like? Was IT Kane Sauce? I actually have agreed with you twice this week. I must something must be wrong. Yeah there was a twitter. Poll thing on pick three of these nine sauces and a seven and the sauces were trash and chick-fil-a sauce and raising cane's sauce and I said those are the only two that matter. Mike agreed with me. Just thought I'd get that out there because obviously something is wrong with Mike at the moment but moving on the indycar racing challenge was at twin ring. Moteki this weekend. I'm totally blanking on. Who finished third but I know Simon Pageant. Oh finish first and Scott. Dixon finished second. I believe the willpower finish third. I think he's still okay at the podium. He's so good at it crazy. Just like an eye racing legend at this point. Naw Good Race Mike. What were your general thoughts? Seen any cars that multi. Well it was definitely out of the. What was this the fourth race? Probably the most complete race. There wasn't a crazy pile up before the start finish line and there wasn't a whole lot of silliness outside of Oliver ask. You stuffing it down low. And and wrecking the Penske one-two-three finish but nonetheless it's just naira Just a game so glad to see. It's definitely a learning experience for him but all in all it was a pretty enjoyable hour and fifteen minutes or however long it was I. I enjoyed sitting down to watch it. Yeah it's better that ask you doing these things now instead of later on when it's actually happening in real life so I'm going to see a rookie macomb. St Now's the time. And then yeah. I was super cool to see Robert. Wickens get the whole heck of a lab by and pretty incredible before we recap our predictions. just wanted to give a shout out to the rooted road to indy racing. Series on which Eduardo. Kello won his round the the round at the road. Indy race For those don't know that's the son of Rubens. Barrichello who is in F two thousand? I believe so. Hopefully he makes any car one day. 'cause that is quite the get to get remember. Kello son. So good for him Recap our predictions. And since I'm reading them. I declared the winner. I got last. I had Alex Polo. Finish twenty second now. Doubt about that went on a ledge failed. But I still like Alex. Jess's picked conor Daly. Who finished eleventh? And Mike Pick Sage Karam. Who finished seventh and suspense? Mike had the boring generic. Of course he went with the best driver in. I racing history. Answer I'm GonNa go ahead and Claire Jessica winner. Because she also went out on a ledge and she also went on a ledge and pick to the guy with the best twitch stream and he finished eleventh which is respectable. Since there's like thirty seven cars and that's basically like you picking Scott Dixon every week because I think you fit carom two out of the four aces. Yes twice lame. Listen my defense. Not that I knew it when we recorded last week but he did qualify last. That's true but you didn't know that at the time right. I said that lame. I know I listen. I understand your logic. I knew you were going to do. This is well. I'm that's why I'm I'm less prized this week than last week because only expected you to go this route. You set the dangerous precedent by picking justices WICCANS. Pick over my Rosenquist pick even though Rosenquist. You started this war. Okay Fair I will leave it at that so she had to jess for quote unquote winning. Even though I have no authority to say so next up is circuit of the Americas super cool. Actually today Tuesday. It was actually announced that landowners has been invited to the grid for the race. Now obviously a lot can happen between now and Saturday but since it's an internet based racing series were hoping that we see Landau north. Come to the full based on that so fingers crossed. Mike did something illegal which was bothered just on her day off and got the prediction that is going to pick Scott Dixon. She she when she texted me. She said and when you predictions. I'm giving I'm predicting Scott Dixon will do. Well so dull. Throw me under the bus on this. One Sir No. I think we're GONNA need to open an investigation on what's number one one and unlike you anymore. Okay well glad we got that out of the way suggests has Scott Dixon. Mike I need to think about. How do you want to go next? Yes I am going to go with the aforementioned Landau Norris and I have some statistics tobacco up. Big Shoutout to my buddy buddy. Tanner Walk Ins. Who was able to pull the IRA sing numbers here? In one thousand three hundred one road starts in I racing. Landau has five hundred fifty wins. Eight hundred twenty top five five hundred fifty eight polls an average finish of seventh and he has led seven thousand.

"Hello word nerds and welcome to another episode of the dictionary i am sitting here with my aunt janet janet how are you i'm doing great spencer the regular listeners from the past week five days or so of episodes they've heard both of your sons ryan andrew i heard mark they've heard claire jessica and my dad was before that so now they get to your you i did not want to be left out no we didn't want you to because i think you have a special viewpoint on the world so can you just tell us a little bit about who you are and what do we need to know about you sure well i'm a relationship coach which i assist women who've been agonizing over whether to stay or go in their relationship and i live in berkeley california do people have is there a website that people can go to if they were is janet parks dot com go check it out if you feel like you feel like you connect with that in some way go check it out thank you all right let's talk about some words where our at our first word is the second form of avalanche blanche the end of the previous episode had the first form a. v. a. l. a. n. c. h. e. it is verb from eighteen fifty-five the in transitive transitive definition is to descend in an avalanche not something that we want to do i've seen them out west in the mountains and it's huge devastation it's a scary sight yeah so you don't want to be avalanched and then the transitive verbs just has these synonyms overwhelm and flood all right next we have avalon with capital a it is a noun from the thirteenth century a paradise to which arthur is carried after his death is that king arthur do you think that's what it sounds like bud i never heard of this maybe we have to do some research i i don't know much about arthur story so yeah this is new to me he pulled the sword out of the stone about all out after his death no never heard about that we'll have to look into that let's see okay next we have avant a. v. a. n. t. it is an adjective from nineteen sixty five culturally or stylistically advanced synonym is avant garde as in avant jazz or avant jazz whereas i guess if we're taking off the guard it's just jazz yeah it's french for b four o. c. you things you beat me to it i was just gonna get into etymology eighty four or front or before yeah very good all right next we have avant-garde it is the i form it is a noun from nineteen ten n an intelligent intelligencia is that yeah and intelligentsia that develops new or experimental concepts especially in the arts i don't think i've ever heard of intelligence yeah used as a noun i don't even really know what that is yeah intelligent people smart people yeah exactly see this is why i didn't know what it was because i'm not niche corrupt out of us in the last few decades i know that there's that coffee company in chicago called intelligentsia but i never knew i guess i thought it was just a word that they had made up i had never yeah no it's it's the smart people not well read that's for sure part of the reason why i'm doing this podcast let's see avant-gardism is a noun all right we have an avant-garde ist is also noun now we have the second form of avant garde it is an adjective from nineteen twenty five of or relating to to avant garde as in avant garde writers next we have avarice av a. r. i c. e. do yes ness evilness bad intentions let's see is a noun from the fourteenth century excessive of or insatiable desire for wealth or gain ooh yeah greedy gather synonyms greediness and cupidite cupidite who pitted we know that we're now i don't know that it must be similar to greet greediness okay so i think i just learned the word of the thing that i dislike the the most avarice oh yeah yeah i kinda wanna forget that word but i feel like i need to remember what that is because i've never ever heard it i remembered the the kind of evil part of it and forgot that it was attached to money but yeah yeah it's all about greed right stuff i think about all the time where do you feel like you learned that word in a poem or a booker is that a memory i guess that's it's a weird question to ask where you heard this word i don't know but probably high school will maybe remember that this is the first time i was aware that i heard this work all right we are going to move onto a various or ever know avaricious avaricious thought it was a various av a our a CIO US i feel so stupid sometimes when i'm doing that because there's so many words i don't know but yeah now that sounds like it's filled with avarice exactly yeah adjective from the fifteenth century a greedy greedy of gain ex excessively acquisitive especially in seeking to hoard riches synonym is covetous avaricious lee is an adverb and avaricious nece is now i'm going to put that in my vocabulary sound so much like delicious it's it was like a you know a more sensuous sort of word for this thing yeah i would feel very that word but that that might happen all right next we have a vascular of vascular so it's a a word of vascular unfamiliar with that you're yeah ah vascular system oh and we forgot to mention that you were a science teacher we should mention that i was a science teacher or three decades pretty close to that's a while yeah that's what ages was middle school i've taught well five through twelve but mostly the middle school physical science and chemistry that is an a quite an age to go through a you know eleven twelve thirteen that probably was hard and i love that age because they're so fun and you couldn't do boring things or you would totally totally lose them so i had to make class interesting it's the transitional time between childhood and adulthood and you have no idea what's happening to your thing yeah that's right yeah you feel like you're kind of an adult but you're not quite there yet and so yeah keeping things interesting i think is really yeah yeah brought rice bryce is to play with and made solar cars and created inventions and would really on roller skates well on occasional sola weiner okay yeah occasionally well it's correct so this is why is she is very familiar with these words that i'm not familiar with like ask vascular it is an adjective from circa nineteen hundred having few or no blood vessels as in a vascular tissue and a invesco liberty is a noun well well now we take a little bit of a turn we have vascular necrosis or necrosis ooh ooh not good death of cells yeah a noun from nineteen fifty three necrosis of bone tissue due to impaired or disrupted blood vessel missile as from traumatic injury or disease i can't really imagine what it's like to go through that well i suppose you could have just a little bit of that when you let's drew wound owned right some of the skin dyes are yeah some tissue is and then a heels but if a big way that sounds bad yeah so just because the word the cross is in it doesn't necessarily mean that it it's body wide it it can be small it could be in cells dine location right which is happening happening all the time right next we have a vast a. v. a. s. t. it is a verb from sixteen eighty one a nautical command and to stop or cease you have say a vast yeah i can hear pirates sang this oh zest let whatever comes after that yes i can hear it in that pirate all right next week have avatar this is a noun from a seventeen eighty four there's a bunch of evidence for this let's see one the incarnation of a hindu deity as vishnu number two a an incarnation incarnation in human form to be an embodiment as of a concept or philosophy often in a person three a variant phase or version asia in a continuing basic entity for an electronic image that represents and is manipulated by a computer user as in a computer game and i may have to belch i do that every once in a while sorry i'm human let's see the says this is from sanskrit atara which means descent from avatar ati which means he descends and that is from away and he crosses over and there's more at UK's this do you know that we're u. k. s. e. a. s. eight no i'm not familiar with that and also the word through so somehow etymologically those are related pleaded but what i'm amazed about is how old that word is because we think of the modern youths and movie avatar and it all sounds so up to date eight and then you find out it's from the seventeen hundreds yeah well and that's the english version of the word who knows how much further back it goes yeah i mean it says it's sanskrit so yeah this is a very old idea and concept you and we think of it in terms of our technology our our little picture on our phone or whatever right yeah that's an old word next we have avant a. v. a. u. n. t. u. r. my avant janet sorry bad that joke or this is a an adverb from the fifteenth century we just have synonyms away and hence h. e. a. h. e. n. c. e. it is middle english literally means forward and there's more at the word of or the prefix anti now on my vocabulary bularian no next we have a v. c. all caps this is an abbreviation for automatic volume control i guess that's some feature that maybe things have they automatically changed the volume make sense oh yeah electronics sound equipment yeah yeah if it's too loud you wanted to be a certain level all right next we have a v. dp all lower case it is an abbreviation for and i think this is a word we had in the last episode somewhere where avoid dupla a virtue pa a french word av p sorry av o. r. d. the u. p. o. s. i can't remember what that means but we read published somewhere oh no yeah that's a fun french word and let's see next we have a few more eight a v. e. orcas also be ave ave it is the i i form it is a noun from the thirteenth century one and expression of greeting or leave taking synonyms are hail and farewell like ave maria ah yes yes i don't know the words of maria feel like i shouldn't i don't either i know the tune but that's about it i'll have to look up those lyrics it's now or at number two it says it's often capitalized it is the synonym ave.
