Just about 6 .10 on Wall Street, time for the Bloomberg Sports Update with John Stashowick. Thanks Nathan, extra readings for both the Mets and Yankees. The Mets at Citi Field waited through a four -hour rain and their bats were again quiet, but Luis Quiorme, after failing to get a sacrifice bunt down, had a base hit, 10th inning to beat the Dodgers 2 -1 to end the Mets four -game losing streak. In the three games with LA, they only scored three runs. Meanwhile, dreadful loss for the Yankees in Denver. They led 3 -1 and then trailed 5 -3. CJ Crone an hit 8th inning grand slam for the Rockies. Yanks were then back ahead 7 -5 in the 11th Colorado with a two -run homer to tie the game and a solo shot to win 8 -7. "So you gotta go get it before it's no longer available. And they will commemorate all kinds of single game milestones or occurrences and turn them around incredibly quickly. And I kind of got curious because it says your hero, your team, your moment. I wondered just how often certain teams have been featured by tops now. This is not the step west, but it is something I was kind of curious about because the Oakland a's as bad as they've been. They have not had the fewest tops now cards this year. That's something they've had for, I believe, Topps now cards already. So how about that? Yeah, whereas the rockies, for instance, have had only one tops now card for rockies. I guess you're more bases, Ben. Yeah, they're tops now card was CJ Crone hits two homers and ties team opening day RBI Mark. So it was an opening day, rocky's taps now card and since then, no tops now carts. So that sort of sad. The royals have also had one and the reds have had two, which is reassuring because it probably wouldn't be appropriate for effectively wild to be sponsored by a company that was featuring the reds regularly. But the most top now cards so far Yankees with 12 the Cardinals with 11. You can do some interesting data analysis. I'm going to have to ask tops now to send me some data. You could do some analysis on what's the average wind probability added in a game when you get a tops now card or one thing I did just look is what's the correlation between team winning percentage and how many tops now cards you have had and it turns out that this year so far the correlation is .49, which is a moderate correlation. So there's a tendency if you have more tops now cards than you have a better winning percentage and vice versa, which makes sense, right? You do things that are noteworthy enough to have a baseball card made about them, then typically that will lead to winning. So you do more of those things than you'll get more wins. Not always. The tigers have had 5 tops now cards this year, three of them are Miguel Cabrera cards, and they're just kind of like he was there. One of them was the gel Cabrera retiring legend, still swinging in final home opener. So it's like he played in a game, basically. He swung, he did get a hit in that game, which is fine. Like, hey, nothing wrong with having a baseball card of Miguel Cabrera's final home opener. He said an incredible career. But not every top now card correlates to winning a game necessarily. But there is some signal there. And in fact, when I looked all of last season, and I excluded postseason and award ones because you might get a taps now card for being a Cy Young award winner finalist or something or I excluded postseason ones or pre season ones when it's just like team signed whatever. So I tossed out some of those, although there's still some that are like mid season trades or someone's number who was retired. I didn't exclude all of those. But just during the regular season, the correlation over the full 2022 season was actually .67, which is pretty strong. So again, you know, you get a lot of tops now cards that probably means you're doing something right in your winning ball games. Unless, of course, you are the angels who had the fourth most top cards of any team last year of the top 12 teams by number of tops now cards. The angels were the only one that didn't make the playoffs. Lots of tungsten arm or Doyle games in there featuring Otani and trout. If you're curious, the a's did have the fewest tops now cards last year. They had a mere 12. So we'll see they're on pace to beat their 12 from last year. So that's something that the Yankees led the league with 84. But how many of those were Aaron judge probably a lot? I would imagine so. Not 62 of them, but probably a lot. And look, Topps is not a charity. They're a business. They're trying to sell some cards through a lot of Yankees fans out there who are probably in the market for tops now cards. But if you go to the top style website, you can go to top dot com and see what the new cards available are or click on the link on our show page. But they also have the full archives there going back to the beginning of tops now in 2016 so you can see the players who've had the most or the teams that have had the most or you can look at the print runs and how many of each was printed. So that's kind of cool. Fodder for further analysis. But here's some further analysis for you. So one follow-up from last time when we talked about the longest streaks that team shared of wins and losses like identical sequences, either to start the season or at any point in the season, but the same game numbers. So your second game through your 34s game or whatever, but the same for both teams. So the record there was 25 was the longest season opening identical string of wins and losses. And then the longest match at corresponding points in the season was 29 games. And I mentioned there that there were like 33 billion different permutations that you'd have to look at to find the longest matching streaks at any point in the season. So not, of corresponding points or not to start the season, but just it could be starting with one team's 34th game and another team's 110th game or whatever. Right. It's just a lot of different sequences and at the time frequent step less consultant Ryan Nelson had not yet figured out how to run that in fewer than four months or something. And there was a whole discussion prompted by this in the stat blast channel of our Discord group for Patreon supporters about how one could query this quickly and some people were saying you could use hash maps and some people were saying you could use prefix trees and this was all way over my head if you weren't interested in signing up for our Patreon before. Now I don't know how you could resist this hot stop blast programming discussion. But Ryan eventually figured out a more efficient, brute force method that ran overnight and then two Patreon supporters, Isaac and Gus,

"Here in a hurry. Drew Goodman there with the call. AT&T sportsnet, yes, the rockies and their 8 game losing streak. As they find a team that's almost as bad as they are in the Philadelphia Phillies right now. Rockies win 5, nothing. Yeah, CJ Crone hit his 5th home run of the season. Hopefully this year. Unlike last year, where the rockies foolishly held onto a bunch of guys that they could have traded and got something for hopefully. They do not make that mistake this time around. Well, I mean, game in Philly. Because you know CJ cron and some of these guys help me help me rescue me. Give me out of here. Well, they pitch better, Mike. Yes, they hit better. They did. And they feel about it. They did. And you know what it added up to? The W and W tonight. It added to a W tonight it happened. Now I'll do it for the morning brewer and that you each and every morning at 6 30. It's an is it just me Friday giving you a chance to get those hot? Hot. Sports takes off your chest, avalanche fans, even though they won, you'll nervous about how this series is going, nugget fans. Super, super confident going into game three. Anything else you want to weigh in, Broncos, drafts, all that rockies hit us up. I see you spring football, right? That's tomorrow? I think? I believe. I think so? Is it? I think so? So that's all out on the table there for you to talk about how some fun with on a Friday is just me Friday next. All right, let's dive into our. Is it just me Friday giving you a chance to get some of those hot takes? Off your chest. Here's one. This is hot. All right, this is hot. This certainly drew a lot of attention. Is it just me, says one texture, they were at the game last night, is it just me or was not a good look when as fans were booing the team at the end of the first period. I told my girlfriend you never boo your home team. You're there to support the team. Okay? Have this little debate here? Is it okay to boo the Stanley Cup champion abs after the first period? Sure. Well, I don't know what you think. I have a problem with that. I've been pulled before as an offense or a defense or as a team. When you go on, you don't play well, and you don't meet expectations. Fans have the right to hold you accountable. Yeah, how is it that the abs themselves say we have standards, we have expectations, and when we don't meet them, we're ticked off at ourselves, we're not satisfied. We're not happy. So if they feel that way, why shouldn't the fans? Right. Have the same standards. And if you're you, the team are not meeting those standards. We're going to let you know about it. Sure. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. When you have expectations and standards and you've created those expectations and standards and you don't fulfill them, this is in the rockies. Where people go to watch the other team or drink at the rooftop or have some peanuts, where there are no expectations. Or where the expectations are for you to lose two of every three games. I mean, you certainly don't want to get there. So yeah, if they don't play well, and whatever, whether it's a lack of effort, whether it's grip and the sticks, whether you're just not playing very well. And somebody, somebody's got to like the spark, like that could have been lit, a gorgi stops one, one of those. Makes it really nice safe. Somewhere, that's what can fire the team up. Stuff like that, but yeah, I don't have any problem with the fans. Voicing their displeasure for a team that they have expectations for and a team that has its own expectations, and they don't fulfill them. They don't mean them. Oh, the other textures are coming out. I love this. This is rice. I just love when we you and I get a brief break and get to just sit back and watch the textures go after each other. Instead of them coming after us. Is it just me or that texture needs to pull his head out of his butt? It's my right as a fan to boo the damn team. Sure. I mean, is it just me or is anti booing guy softer than pajama grand PJs? I don't know. That is. The third period is going to end. You're just going to linger. You ain't getting out of your chair. By the way, here we are phrasing the Broncos, Broncos country, was it week two? Where you counting down the clock? Yeah. We do. We too. I don't even realize that for a while. We weren't even really into the Russell Wilson horror story yet. We actually came out of the Seattle game, remember? Feeling somewhat upbeat, right? About us, yeah. You forgot how many timeouts you had, then you played for a 64 yard field goal. The lumen field. Right. I think the longest ever was 58. Right. Yeah. So while we came out of that first game going, well, there were some curious things that happened there, but hey, we're okay, we're okay, we're okay. Yeah. It's good. It's all good. And then in that first home game, the crowd's counting down the clock. Yeah. And but I think it's great. It is a debate that has gone on and every sports market there is over the years. Are you a, is the definition of being a fan, meaning that you are there to support the team no matter what? No. You are a fanatic. You are here to support the team. That's what being a true fan is all about. I have always believed that a good sports fan is one who loves their team today, but is willing to rip it tomorrow. If it's justified, sure. So, we're going to fill in. No thank you. I mean, you know what I'm saying about, I mean, they can't wait to dog cuss her team with their team doesn't do what they expect it to do. How it should be. There should be some accountability there. Is it just me or is anti boo guy softer than sabonis? That was, he played last night now. I was thinking about Willis Reed, Phil breer is playing with a torn ACL. Yeah. Kerry struck. Yes, Gary. It's great. What's that coach's name? That Romanian. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh yeah. He totally see him. Yeah. The stash. Yeah. Come over here, thing. Yeah, supposed boy. One of the toughest. How did he do it? I don't. I really don't know. Thank you. Thank you, Colin. Bela Karolyi. You just see belly karolyi being there at the warrior stadium carrying him off after the game. Oh, proud. From trung, is it just me or is that last text or someone who thinks ranch is spicy?

"All coming up in the bru next. It's time for your morning brew, grab a cup of Joe and get caught up on everything you need to know. Here's schlereth and Evans. The avalanche rally from two goals down. And come back to win last night three to two. And you saw some abs, the sides mikko ranton in besides Nathan McKinney, saw some other abs important abs step up. I'm on Evan Rodriguez, who arguably played his best game as an avalanche and went a long way to earning his abs playoff stripes last night. I don't think somebody else I don't think, you know, beginning of the first period was very good and yeah, I don't know if it was frustration. I think everyone just kind of was holding her stick a little bit tight, game one didn't go the way we wanted to and I think we expected to have a big jump in the first period and when we weren't getting the results. You hold your stick a little tight and I think in a second we kind of regrouped in the first told everyone kind of just to relax player game and what we did that when we started to have success. Yeah, I mean, I think that's a there's a reasonable explanation there. You know, the old cliche of Griffin stick, you know? They used to have baseball time too. You know, making sawdust out of the bat. Just gripping it so tight. So I think there is some truth to that. There's the expectation you expect to go out there and dominate you expect to go out there and write the wrong of the first game and you end up instead playing on your heels a little bit. Playing a little bit of passive hockey. And I think that's what we saw. Well, we've been talking all year about who's going to step into that nasm Cadbury roll and I'm certainly not saying Rodriguez has gotten to that level, but he gave them kind of a cadre type performance last night in terms of he had an assist. He had a plus three, had a shot on goal, had 5 hits. So he brought, he brought some energy. He brought some physicality. He brought some grits and sandpaper because he has game. Yeah, I also had a little slash the ambulance. I was giving him the business associate. He got a little bit more. A little bit more of the ankles on that slash, but sometimes sometimes that stuff, you know, hey, man, we could have had a penalty. We could have been on the power play. Sometimes you need to give up the power play to send a message. Yeah. And I actually, like I said, I wish you got in a little bit more on the slash, right? A little bit a little bit making a little sting a little bit more, but I thought the reaction was natural, but I thought it was good. We're not going to take that. Next on the morning, brew, nuggets, sitting comfortably with a two zero lead, and Michael Porter junior, after all he's overcome, certainly enjoying the ride. Yeah, I mean, injuries, man. I mean, they've definitely made my basketball career a little different path than I would have wished for growing up, but like, I mean, I'm here in the playoffs, this is a dream from Trump, starting for the number one team on the west, I'm playing a lot of minutes for the number one team in the west, and we're up to on the playoffs. So, I mean, this is all you can ask for, man. What are you expecting from the nuggets? In game three tonight. I guess maybe more importantly, what are you thinking from expecting from the Timberwolves? I'm expecting to know you to do nugget stuff. I mean, it played stellar defense to continue to do what they've done to put the pressure on them to continue to put the heat on them. And to go out to Minnesota and get away and make it three O. I think we'll learn a lot about this team and their ability to put a team away. The killer instinct, do they have it? Do they possess it or is this a team that will go out and see a lot of NBA teams when they're up to? It's almost like they kind of, all right, we'll let the other team get game three. They're gonna come out with a lot of emotion. And maybe we just need to just kind of gear up for game four. We're only coming out here. You get a split anyway. So we'll see if the nuggets can sort of buck that kind of conventional way of NBA thinking and really go for the kill tonight. That would be good. You're right. I mean, teams do it all the time. As long as we're playing for the split, go ahead and let them get that first one at home. But I just think that they know you're so much better team. And they play with so much more grit. Just toughness. That I just like to see them. I'd like to see them go ahead and sweep this team. It would just make me feel not that I feel I feel really good about what they're doing right now, but it just give me that. All right, they're handling business. Like, this is a different. This is a different mindset team than the nugs of the past. Game three game three coming up a tonight. Next on the morning brew, we got a rare chance to hear from the Broncos yesterday as Sean Payton George Payton held a pre draft zoom press conference and Sean Payton talking about the possibility of moving up or back or around in the draft. It's easy to obtain draft capital. If you're wanting to move back, you can or forward you ten. If you choose to move forward, it's because you really is a term really like and if you choose to move back, there's a feeling maybe that the player would select here. We can select a few picks later. You got to feel for a Sean Payton, George Payton collaboration for this draft. If I had to tell you, Mark, they will take those third round picks that they have early in the third, they'll stay right where they are and use them or they'll package them to move up or they'll move back. What would you predict? I would predict that. I predicted they I don't know. I mean, I really don't have any idea what they're going to do, but if I was a gambling man, I'd say they'd move back. And accumulate a few more pigs and the one thing that has been consistent throughout Sean's career in New Orleans is they have found big time starting offensive and defensive linemen. Third fourth, 5th round. They have developed into all prototype players. So I could see them say, hey man, we love we love this kid. But he's going to be around late in the third, early fourth, let's get a couple more picks. Next on the morning brew, CJ Crone helping his case to get the heck out of Denver. CJ Crone. This ball hammered deep left field take a good look, you won't see it for long. CJ crow makes it two to nothing with his 5th of the year. In control back on the field, but it still counts. That got

"Thanks for listening to slayer than Evans on demand presented by bath fitter. Hey guys, if you drop the bowl when it comes to your bath or shower remodel, bath fitter doesn't just fit your bath. They fit your budget and schedule. Bath bitter will install a tub or shower in just one day. Bath fitters price guarantee is a slam dunk bath fitter. It just fits. Welcome to four down territory. As stinking might take a look at the four biggest stories in Denver sports. Here's lariat and Evans kicking it off with first down. Well, if last night, frustrated you as a nuggets fan because it was a load management game for Nikola Jokić, you may not want to tune in to the lineup that Michael Malone trots out tonight in Phoenix. Yeah, I mean, that's the reason I raced in here. I want to go speak a state short kind of see where we're at with. The guys that were most about obviously Nicole who did not play tonight worry about Jamal back to back with late in the year. He played 35, 36 minutes tonight. So that's always a concern with his return to play the ACL injury. KCP was not feeling great tonight. I at one point didn't even think he played tonight, just was feeling under the weather. So I'll go speak. Don't have a problem with load management, but you're running the risk of blowing off two games here. And what you should have done is just either not playing anyone last night and load up for tonight or play everybody last night and then don't send anybody on the road to Phoenix and just have everybody back here on Sunday against Golden State. I certainly wouldn't. I mean, you heard in his voice, Murray's not going to play tonight. KCP probably doesn't play tonight. If that's the case, why play Aaron Gordon, so if that's the case, why does jokic even make the trip? Yeah, I am. Keep everybody home, but now you're sacrificing two games here. Right. I mean, don't look now. But in the last ten games, the nuggets with the three point were the three games. Well, remember, it's four games, really, because they won the season series against Memphis. So it's basically a four game lead over Mario. Last ten games, what's the nuggets record? 5 and 5, 5. What's Memphis record in the last ten games? 8 and two. 8 and two. But you're not gonna play Memphis in the first round. Well, I know, but I'm just saying the number one seater. Okay, the rockies just don't have. I don't have enough trust. I don't think anybody in this town has enough trust for the rockies just to skate. You mean that. I mean, excuse me, the nuggets just skate. Now you're gonna tell me, you trust the rockies more than you trust the nuggets. I even have their way after that win. I trust the rockies. I did trust the rockies. Iraqis were number one on my list. Yes, even more. Trust the rockies even more than your trustee abs right now. Of course I do, I trust them to be mediocre. I have nothing but faith. You trust on them to deliver has advertised. Right. Yeah, no, I think that's what you're seeing. You're seeing a nuggets team that whether you like it or not, they are already thinking about the playoffs and making sure that guys are resting ready to go for the blast. They are not worried about losing their spot, and they really shouldn't. They've got 6 games left, so does Memphis, and they have basically a four game lead over Memphis. They're not going to not going to blow that. Because Memphis is going to start wrestling some people too. So that's the idea behind it, whether you like it or not. Why do we play 82 games? For money. Second down. And this ball is drilled to deep left field by Montero. This will get out. The rockies feasting on the Padres. 7 two Colorado. Wow, wow, wow. Are those booze? In San Diego? They shot laid back southern Californians booing their Padres. I W. Dude, I bought it. I mean, it was like they ran out of scrub against a Snell is legit. That was odd. They been gaining a lot of rain there and watching that game. I thought I was watching a game in San Francisco. Everybody was bundled up. Yeah, we're in parkas and things like that. Although in San Diego, if the temperature dips below 60, everyone's in. Winter wear. You know, you get a little rain there. Dips down. It's argument. It feels cool. Marine layer. There's a marine layer. It's a very effective rocky, June glare hidden. They were. So CJ Crone had two first place, rockies are right now in first place. If the season were to end today, they'd be out of the Dodgers? The Giants lost the Padres lost. Are they in Arizona? Arizona lost. I think the Dodgers beat Arizona. So Arizona? Yeah, so the rockies and Dodgers are tied for the first place. W, who's got the lead and point differential. Dodgers do. The dollar they won by 6. Rockies won by 27 month, 7 two 5. All right, so we're nipping at the heels. Third down. Peter king, who as you listen to this, Johnny fever pointed this out. Does Peter king sound a lot like our very own Andrew mason. Talking about the Broncos. The Denver Broncos fan base will be a better educated fan base about football. And by that I mean, Sean is one of these guys who really enjoys explaining why something happened. And I always felt, I think the coach that I've covered in 39 years covering the NFL, the coach that I've really learned the most from about football. Is Sean Payton. I you know I was not in my head throughout that entire thing. I thought because you'd lost enough weight that your neck is finally starting to give out. And I did have a sore neck this week. That was weird. It's not weird. You know what? I've got one of those gravity airplane rest your head. One of them things you strap her on your I'm gonna bring it in for this one day constantly. I'm just worried about you, little shaver. I'm worried about you. I see so last night at the movie premiere. He looks great. He does look like that. But he is a cautionary tale about I can't lose too much. Yeah, he had to put a few more pounds on because his head plus when he's got the full hair on. Oh, he had like a pompadour going last night. Yeah. He did. Look like Elvis. Wouldn't this race? Yeah, he

"Evans. On a night that Nikola Jokić was given the night off, the rest of the nuggets did not respond as they get beat soundly by the New Orleans pelicans. Not gonna call them the appels. Michael Malone on playing without his MVP. As long as they're generating good looks, I can't speak to Michael going over 7 KCP going over four. No one's trying to miss shots. But I felt for the most part without having to look at the film. I felt we missed a lot of wide open looks. Quality looks shot set. You know, you try to generate, but I think the simple answer is, you know, when you're playing with the MVP, things are a lot easier. Okay, so are they handling this little two game stretch the right way because Malone hinted strongly after the game last night that there will be some guys who won't make the trip to Phoenix for tonight's game against the suns, Kevin Durant back for the suns. And we talked about these two games with Phoenix that, hey, maybe, you know, you might want to send a message. You guys don't have to send messages, but maybe the nuggets need to send a message. So if you take, if you see jokic last night, but let's say he plays tonight, but you don't play, let's say Murray and Gordon, what do you really accomplishing with these two games? Aren't you kind of, are you going to do, are you ruining this game against Phoenix at home? Nope, that's on the road as well. Two back to back or not back to back in Phoenix, but two games in Phoenix. Correct. I. I don't know. I really don't. Are you just basically not tipping your hand on this one, but you're going to have to play everybody in one of those games, right? So next week, you're at Phoenix tonight. Moment against Golden State on Sunday. See, what I would do in this case, if and again, I do not have any problem with resting jokic. You need this guy to be a thoroughbred in the playoffs. I don't have a problem. But if you're not going to bring some other key guys tonight, don't bring jokic. Then don't bring yoga either. Give them two nights off, get them basically three four days off. Have them all show up on Sunday. For gold stage, full strength. Let's go. And then for the rest of the season, let's roll into the playoffs with our guys. Get a couple days off here. The only thing I would do differently is, well, yeah, here's what I would do. I would go because you got to go to Phoenix to the second game. Don't play anybody tonight. Mail that one in. Everybody for Golden State, then you go to Houston, have everybody go to Phoenix on Thursday, have everybody. Okay. Saturday, you're at Utah, sit everybody. Let them have a wild night out in Salt Lake. And then come home the next day against Sacramento, final home game of the season, let all the fans see everybody then. You know what'll happen if they if they do that in Utah. Everybody's getting a root beer float that night. You crazy. Crazy guys, you were going to be cookie. Root beer floats forever. Root beer floats on the house. Frankly Enfield, here we go. Do it again. Next on the morning brew. The rockies. The rockies. Break up the rockies as they smoke the heavily favored Padres in the season opener. Crow tries this to deep left field and this one is gone. Three run Jack for CJ crow. And the rockies are on top four to two. W. Red bud. That's right. Sometimes W and you know, market, it's only one game, but this was a big win because if the idea is that the rockies are going to be hard pressed to win 60 games this year to be able to get a win on the road, historically tough. A win on the road inside their division even historically tougher and a win on the road in their division against a San Diego team that's loaded, that's. That's a free win there, baby. I will say they've always played well against the Padres. Even when but black was a Padres skipper. But I think I owe somebody a cup of coffee. Yeah, maybe? 'cause I did say at some point I remember saying something to the effect of, I don't think they'll ever break 500 this. Didn't I say that? Fever, do you remember that? I had to look at my notes. I probably wrote it down. That's true. He's got a handy dandy notebook. But I do think I said I will. There never be over 500. I look forward to a coffee next week. Big night's offensively, CJ Crone four for 5, 5 runs batted in two home runs. Chris Bryant, three hits. Charlie Blackmon three hits. So good night, her mom Marquez went 6 innings. He was great, gets the win. Good stuff. All right, rocky's one and O, keep it going. Next on the morning brew, the very well respected Peter king, his thoughts on what Sean Payton will mean here in Denver. I think one of the things that he will do is because he's obviously a disciple of Bill Parcells, Parcells used to have this saying that all I can do is just go by what I see. So he will go to training camp. He'll go to mini camp and he will have probably a few preconceived notions, but not overwhelming ones. And when I say and I've seen this time and again, I saw time and again in new Orleans. He will play the best guys. Yeah, I mean, there's nothing there that I would refute Shawn does a great job with John does a great job with all that so is one of the reasons when you ask me, just point blank. How different would this team be if Sean was coaching it last year? Well, it had been way different. Then way more victories. Simply because of those things. You put the ball on the ground, you don't get to play. Are you kidding me? Mountain gory won't cut your ass. Like a Russ, you can't orchestrated an offense from shotgun. You're going to be under center. We ain't playing that game. We're going to run the ball. We're going to have an identity. We're going to do that stuff matters. And I know I know people are like, well, it matters. It does. And yeah, I'm a 100% on board. With what Peter king says there. Next on the morning, brew. The Florida Atlantic. They are headed to the final four. For the first time in school history, San Diego state is going to the final four. All right. Feel the excitement. Florida Atlantic and San Diego state in one national semifinal tomorrow at four ten our time followed up immediately by Miami and Yukon, Mark, who you got. I'm out of it. I mean, I'll take you. You can just nobody's got the everybody's brackets are destroyed. So just enjoy the hoops. I'll tell you. Who's going to win both games? Okay, who's going to win, but well, you call them that. We could talk about this Monday. Okay. I'm going Yukon, Yukon. Okay. And I'm going to go San Diego state. Yeah. I liked it. I like the coach. What did he sit behind? Steve Fisher, Steve Fisher, for like 17 years as an assistant, they got the chance to be the head coach. Yeah, I think it's kind of a cool reward that loyalty reward a guy that's been there forever. I think that was cool. Yeah, I'm gonna go UConn San Diego state. They call them Dutch. Gotcha oven. I like that. I like that. When I hear Dutch, I want to make it

"Offense is struggling. CJ Crone, whatever Mookie had a great comeback year, but really trying to piece together an offense here, where can I make some moves on the fringes maybe without bankrupting the entire future? And that's when I made the Alejandro Kirk deal, which kind of worked for a big kind of did and he fizzled some, but that's where I was just like, and the thing is, right when it was happening, Garrett Cole, his first two starts for Johnny, were awful. I think he got blown out after like two innings once, the next one was bad, and that could have caused me to lose a match up. So maybe it would have helped probably would have like the last week of the season. Week or two, maybe I could have gotten me in, but it would have been very close, whether that would have been make or break for me. Did I lose my hundred bucks on my buy in this year? Yep. But I certainly think I'm in a better spot next year to see where I can go and continue building for the future. Yeah, I think that's a really fair comment on coal is that like, I think, I think Johnny bought him almost as much to keep him out of the hands of the rest of us as he actually wanted him. I had made a couple deals prior to that deal getting done and I ended up kind of lowering my bid on him. Because I didn't think the value added was worth a $100, which was basically what I think I put in. But yeah, he had a really up and down August and September. It'll be interesting to see how he performs in the playoffs. And credit to Johnny a little bit. For sure. You put in spot on. That 125 was way more valuable for your coal should Derek Colby good to have been on Johnny's roster, but then do not have been on anybody else for whatever reason, right? And Johnny knew and he does know that his team is not going to be a good next year. And so that 125 doesn't matter to him as much as it matters to me where I think I can still be competitive next year. I still have some cheap keepers and options and things to do. To boning newer was always, this is going to be a full in year. And so I get why he was going to be willing to still stay at one 25 where that's where I was earlier, but I think it was a shrewd move if only because, as you said, it kept him away from other people, it limited everybody else's options. Yeah, and that's really interesting that you say that Johnny was really all in because I don't know that I realized that he was as win the whole thing

"Couple of your tax here before we move along from the 719. Not on Lee that talking about Tom Wilson. Wilson has a years long track record of being dirty. Got a snuff him out before someone ends up with the career ending injury. Wilson is today's Donald Brashear moment. Waiting to happen. It is so much stuff. It's one the act itself. That alone should be enough. What he did is a suspended ble a fence. That's number one number two is this guy's a repeat offender? And that matters. And then third. To avoid an absolute That's show that last night, Woz Spend him. Again. It should be the primary reason it's tertiary. But there are three legitimate reasons for suspending Tom Wilson. And the reason why last night was s show is because of the first two things because he should have been suspended. And this is a guy that does this all the time. Your home for New York Rangers talk is actual sports 1300 All right, um So in 2000 and one I was a sophomore in high school. I think I've told this story before through a different context. So if you've heard it before, Forgive me. But it's relevant on a day like today. 2000 and one I'm, a sophomore in high school. Two of my buddies and I concocted a plan to go up to Coors Field for opening day. We Um Of course, in order to leave school, you need to gain permission to do so from your parents. Two bodies did that. I did not. Why did I do that? Because I didn't want them to say no. Parents claim they would have let me go. I don't believe them. But that doesn't make what I did. Right? And I paid the price for it. But I I ended up. We ended up getting caught because my father at the time worked in Denver, and he was coming home early from work. So we're going west on I 70 he's going east identifies our van that I was driving. Busted, but, um I don't know whether it's my dad's decision or Amman's or was AH, cooperative. Decision between the two, but I will always think them for waiting until I got home. Get at me, right? Although I didn't have a cell phone Back then. So I guess they couldn't enough. But they could have followed me and Whatever, but any case. So we went, Uh Webb School. Went to the Rockies game. Bassem scalpers tickets We ended up seeing in the rock pile. And we pick this opening day over other opening days. In part because it was the debut of one Mike Hampton. That Off season the Iraqis had Their biggest free agents spending spree. Never Signing my camped in and signing to Denny Neagle and signing Denny Neagle. Mike Hampton got to start on opening day. It was a wonderful day until I got home and got grounded, but I mean, if we just taking my buddy's car, I think we would have gone away with bad the van and I could fit in right anyway. That was 20 years ago. I might worry about but anyway So we thought we were there and is a great great game. Mike Hampton pitch awesome and we thought the sky was the limit for the Rockies. We thought we were there, witnessing the beginning of Mike Hampton's illustrious Rockies career. And the ascension of Dormant Colorado Rockies franchise. That would surely compete for multiple world. Syriza's not one, not two, not three. With Mike Hampton intending eagle at the top of the rotation. Of course, for obvious reasons we were proven wrong. But now I look back on that day, especially today. I look back on that day and realized I wasn't watching. The beginning of my campaign's Lester's Rockies career. That's not what I should remember about that day. I should remember about that day is the guy who is playing first base for the ST Louis Cardinals. Got his first major league hit. And that was one Albert pool. Witnessed the beginning of the career of one of the greatest hitters to ever play the game of baseball. And like an idiot. I was there because I thought that the stupid Rockies did something right? But I'll always be able to say that that I was there the day that Albert Poo holes, made his major league debut and got his first hit. So I think That is only fitting. That now that Albert pool halls has been released by the Los Angeles Angels. That he finishes his career where it started. And that is Coors Field. And I'm being dead serious. And you know why I'm being dead serious Because what the hell else do we have to look forward to? We got the All Star game. And now we can also add. Albert Poof, who holds farewell tour. I mean, why not? Is he Is he batting 100 points lower than CJ Crone? I don't care. Not like the Rockies have a lot invested in CJ Crone. He was a minor league free agent. Go get out of fools Cane play first base anymore. I don't know, And I don't care. You look at the odds coming out from the sports books. And The smart money is on. Our pool halls. Playing..

"Alright giants with the all time Coors Field experience last night 12 runs in the opener. Having lots of laughs and then the shocking turn of events and the bag really here to talk about that, and a lot of big picture giant's stuff here as they get ready for a little 12 10 today, Polly 12 10. John Gray for the Rockies. Logan Web for the Giants, Andy Good morning and your bag with the athletic on the Yuma guest. Lynne, How are you? Thanks. Good morning. How are you? We're good. I have thanks to the great John Platz, the Stanford broadcaster. I have the walk off homers for the Giants at Coors Field when they've been on the wrong end. And I'm gonna see what was your first year on the beat Andy 2004, But wait, what the Giants always be on the wrong end of it. Yes, that is correct, Of course, by definition, but September 98 Navy, Perez got robbed Nin in the game that forced the Giants Cubs one game playoff it Wrigley. June of a one Larry Walker got Chad Zerby and then in your era, August Oh, nine. Spill boards off Merkin! Val Dez in the 14th. By the way, kids ask yourself what 1/14 inning is, they don't happen anymore. Right? June 2017 Nolan Aaron Nado completes the cycle off of my Lanson. And then last night, all fond memories, right, Andy? What? Why are you putting people through this? Exactly? What? I'm not sure. Just decide to be a status today. There. You know what Don't therapy Don't Don't forget about the Rockies introduced themselves the year that the Giants want to learn to games and didn't win the division three and go to the plastic. There was no wild card. Guess what the Iraqis did against the Braves. That year, They went like, Oh, and 15 again, so rocks kind of announced themselves to the baseball world by saying Giants. We will never do you any favors whatsoever. I mean, seriously, I actually had it. I mentioned that they got course you know last night to go forward lead into the into the final inning. I can't see ninth inning. It's the seventh inning and lost and I got a couple salty. Rocky stands in my mentions. They were like, Oh, every time its course field, the Giants blame course build more than any other team. Like you should know. You watch staff your games there. I mean, the Giants is a tough place to hang onto a lead. That's that's not. That's not the Giants experience. That's everybody's experience. And obviously, you know, a tough way to end. What otherwise could have been. I mean, did you have a more positive day than giant Sweep? A doubleheader Dodgers get swept in a doubleheader, but you just had to settle for three of the four. I guess you pick up a game on him either way, or at that point, so good by the way, far away, Texans says. Don't forget Last year you could walk off and in a way park Padres did in San Francisco. Off of Sam Kun. Rod. That's right. Mr Grisham got turned the trick. My friend in Philadelphia is texting me. He's pitching Well, he had a five out safe for the Phillies. He goes. Thanks for Coon Rod. I was like, Wow. I didn't see that coming. I read something where he was. He was. He's playing catch with Kinsler or one of the other relievers there and was really getting some good sort of council on on what he needed to do just to stay in the strike zone. And you know what if he's able to find it and turn it around and be able to harness his stuff? Good for him because he throws 101. So, um, but, you know, I think that was a deal where it was just it blew up so bad. That I think a change of scenery was probably in order for everybody. Well, it's a good place to start as any is. That's the bullpen because I imagine you beat guys We're gonna be following how Kapler uses the bullpen how Kapler closes games Now we had my cocoa on two hours ago, and he said, Listen, it's you know, it's the big leagues. Sometimes you take you take it on the chin. You still go with what you got? How you said, however, if you're looking into remote possibilities, you know, the minor leagues have started. You start looking at that. And if you really it really remote Johnny Cueto comes back and you move Logan Web to closer. I don't know. And I'm throwing them all out there. What do you think? Well, I don't know if they move him straight to closer, but I think that they definitely could have something with him as a short reliever, And if they have the pitching depth to be able to do that, That means everybody else is pitching well and healthy, so that if that's an option for them, but I think that that's going to be a pretty good sign that things are going well. But But you're right. You know, Jake McGee is going through a rough patch. I think you know yesterday, even though it was course field, throwing him out there with a four run lead was probably a good you know, then you to try to get him get him on the beam, and that didn't work out. Obviously. And the problem is that you know they didn't have the fallback option they used. You know Rogers already the use Whistler in Game one. They bring in communities of all, which is a tough, tough spot to bring in a kid. He's only got a handful of big league appearances, and obviously he gets a pop up from from CJ Crone. That's got unexpected batting average of 100, but because Stephen Douglas claimed his cleats on the warning track plan, no doubles, which you gotta do. Um, you know, then it falls in and that that's what I mean about getting course you know that that that that's it out nine times out of 10 and probably in 2029 ball parks that authority and then Charlie Black ones. They're really good hitter and activities supposed to do And in the end of the game, So it was e. Don't think Capital made any any mistakes in this bullpen management. I have observations. Criticisms. It was just really weird to have him start out his postgame by saying I thought to all did a great job for us, and I thought, I don't know if you could only say that when the guy gives up the game winning walk off Homer. But I understand why he said it. He's protecting a young player from getting his ego crushed. He's doing what he's supposed to do. He's backing up his players. But, you know, I think that the manager's got to say, Hey, look, it was my choice to put him out there. I thought it was interesting that he threw 12 sliders out of 14 pitches the guy that was 99, but whether he's being told not to throw his fastball, or he doesn't have confidence in it. And either way that that to me tells me he's not the right guy to have out there in that spot, but But that's what happened..

"One pitch. Hit the air, Right center field all the way back, and it is over and out of here. Who run homer for Ryan McMann on a shot to right center. And the Rockies leading 64 in the 10th McMahon enjoying a really good road trip as hitting goes in San Francisco. Certainly five for 19 with that long home run, CJ Crone added. A solo shot in the Rockies got the win 7 to 5 on Tuesday night, who's hot and who's not presented by the original Louisiana brand hot sauce. Bring the heat, so the Rockies they're going to try and get their first win in feet. Nixon. Joining us is that Henderson one of our Rockies insiders, to kind of break this down and kind of talk about where the club is after one month and good to have you how are you? Hey, I'm doing well, Mike. Good to join you. Yeah, thank you. We appreciate it. So let's first talk about the road trip, and we'll we'll expand it out to the season because we've got a little bit of a lengthy time with you. And by the way, folks know who listened Iraqis all access. Normally, we feature a conversation with Jeff, Right? Itch. The Rockies GM who, of course. Step down this past week mutually agreed to part ways. So once we get things settled once the Rockies name an interim GM will kind of proceed with a front office guest as well, whether it be the interim every week, whether it be a rotational basis. We'll work all that out. But we're gonna have some time here with that. We're gonna have some time with Jack before we get it to Rocky's on deck. At 4 30 Mountain Daylight time. So Ed, this has been a struggle, obviously on the road through the first month of the season. Now we know baseball season's long It's a marathon. It's not a sprint, but no club wants to start the way the Rockies have on the road, right? Absolutely not like they sit right now one in 10 on the road this year, you look back at some of those close games that they perhaps could have one and, ah, few more victories right now on the road would look awfully good in that win column. But It's been tough and the inconsistency that the club is shown a times has really been. I think a big part of that, especially on the road, so Hopefully tonight. Hopefully tomorrow we'll see some better performance from the crew when they're down in Arizona and Hopefully, they can come back on a positive note when they returned, of course field Monday against the Giants. Yeah, now, I mean, the Dodgers are really good team and you know, Right now there's scuffling with some injuries and whatnot. They were playing great out of the gate when the Rockies played him. The Giants have been playing great baseball, and they are one of the best teams. In fact, they're half game better than the Dodgers right now, sometimes, and I'm not making excuses, but sometimes matchups and timing play into all this, right? No question about it. I mean, you talked about the Dodgers haven't some guys out right now. You know, the Giants have got my kissed rimsky out, and obviously that's a factor for them. But they're they're getting maximum effort. Maximum results from there, guys. You know, so far in 2021, so I'm not terribly surprised to see them sitting atop the NL West Now, will it? Will it continue like that? You know, I think when the Dodgers get healthier when the Dodgers get some guy's back Certainly I would expect the deck to reshuffle a bit. But, you know, I think the Giants are good enough team like that. They're probably going to be part of the conversation as we go through the summer. Yeah, in the fact is Playing in San Francisco, playing certainly recently against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. But even historically for the Rockies, it's just been difficult again. That's not an excuse. But the fact of the matter is I mean, sometimes with the schedule doesn't do you any favors. And then when the Rockies scuffle little bit and just have to work through some issues early in the season, it all compounds a little bit on these first two road trips, doesn't it? No doubt about it. And I think too one of the big factors here, Mike and we've heard Buddy Black talk about it several times up to this point the season and that is that a lot of the younger guys on the club and I'm talking about guys like Gaza. Hilliard Fuentes. These your guys that you know, don't have an awful lot of major league experience. They don't have a lot of major league bats and So I think you're going to need to see probably, you know, 1000 and bats or 1200 past. Certainly at north of 800 to really get a feel for how good these guys can be. But I do think that they're getting the experience. Unfortunately, they're having to face some very quality pitching. And when you're when you're facing quality pictures at the major league level for many of these guys, Mike, they've never seen anything like this. I mean, when you're in the minors, your double a triple A guy. You might see two or three really quality pictures on a roster. But those are not guys that aren't necessarily going to be elevated to the major league level. Now, when you're Yourself push to the Major league club. You've gotta quickly adjust to what these major league pitchers are capable of doing. And we saw last night with Bumgarner and we've seen it several times already and in the season Where the Rockies young hitters. They're They're trying to compete, and I think we're probably getting about as much out of them right now is we can get. But the fact of the matter is, is that You know those guys? We're gonna have to become an integral part of the offense because you cannot expect every night for you know Trevor story Charlie Blackmon, Ryan McMahon or or see Jake Roenick to carry the full load? It just can't be done. And if if, if that's all they can do Struggles will continue. So let's hope these young guys can start toe get better at the plate. Maybe not expand the strike zone as much not, you know, chased pitches outside of his own. And just get a little more disciplined. I think it will come. It's just going to take time. We're with Iraqis insider at Henderson, It's Rockies..

Ryan McMann Jake Roenick Hilliard Fuentes Jeff Ryan McMahon Mike San Francisco CJ Crone Jack Charlie Blackmon Bumgarner Los Angeles Buddy Black Monday 2021 Ed tomorrow tonight Giants Tuesday night

"Every day that goes by Is closer to the end of Charlie Blackman's Career. Really? This is about the future. People want to see some of these younger players. We're players entering their prime perform. So maybe there might be a day somewhere down the road that the Rockies confined their way back to where they were. Yes. Three years ago. And I would say Ryan McMahon will be on that list. Not in the lineup today. On the lineup. Chris Going's got to start today at second base. Reason, I suppose. Is because Chris Owings has all of eight hits and 33 at bats against Clean. Kershaw and Ryan McMann is a lefty. This increasingly analytically driven Sport. Where right? He left. He doesn't mean quiet. I mean, it's still a thing, but it's not as much as it once was. One black. Is making lineup decisions like it's Obama the eighth in Game seven. And trying to get the favorable riding on Lefty matchup in Game one of 1 62 and a season where the on Lee optimism that surrounds it is that maybe some of these young players can play well. Give us some hope for the future now. Chris selling Chicago with Chris Owens. Eyes batted to 67 against Kershaw. We got take it to him. And then and then you have The first major league free agent. That the Iraqis have signed. Remember all of these deals that they may with CJ Crone and Great Bird, Matt Kemp last year, they're all minor league for deals. Right. It's just mind that's the guy wants to sign up. There have been a lot of lean years. In this team's history. And it has not curtailed the enthusiasm that opening day. Creates Among Iraqis faint It hasn't There have been some really bad teams. We still get excited about opening day. But this year On this April Fool's Day. Iraqis air pranking us. They've been pranking us. They will continue to prank us and anybody that falls for it. Is a four 5 to 2987 to take your thoughts on that. We'll continue to keep you updated because it is our journalistic duty. Let you know. What is going on? In the Rockies game, But last time I looked, it was one nothing.
