"I mean, as I said, I only got a little league in spanky Weiss was our best pitcher and he threw about 50 miles an hour, probably at 11 years old, so I never had that experience, but being in the minors. I would feel in danger because they obviously don't have to in many cases don't have the control to major leaguers do. So, you know, you're a tough guy though. So you're able to come back in two games. If I'm in the head by a 98 mile fastball, I'm retiring. So good for you. I'm done. It crossed my mind once or twice. I wouldn't be like, that was the truth. Well, you know, some good surprises so far of beginning of the season. One, in particular, a team that I've been railing against in last week, you were talking me down on was the Colorado Rockies who were off to a great start to their season. They won four in a row. There is one person on the rockies, though, that I'm very high on and that's CJ Crone. I feel like he's a power hitting right handed monster that no one really pays too much attention to in Major League Baseball. And you what's funny about CJ cron, you're with the most incredible thing is his brother Kevin Krohn was an ex teammate of mine what maybe the best power hitting right handed hitter I've ever played with. Really? Well, you unbelievable these are in Japan right now. I mean, yeah, I know you probably sympathize with the right handed inning power hitters as you were once. So I'm sure you really like CJ cronin. That's great. You know, I think their team is probably better than we've given them credit for. I like their starting pitching. I think it's good. I mean, it's a little harder to judge in court's field. They obviously had the big signing. I know there are a lot of people didn't love that signing, because it was a lot of money, but hey, it's not my money. It's take mom for some money. You can spend it however he wants. Brian is obviously a very good player and he's off to a good start. You know, I think their team is better than they were given credit for, but you know, in that division, you know, with the Dodgers and then the Padres and the Giants, it's going to be tough. I mean, very difficult competition and I think we'll be surprised if there are anywhere but fourth this year, but still better than we thought at the beginning. And by the way, only about four, 5, 6 games in, we've already had three position players pitching. I love baseball so, so much. It's just the best. One of which being Brett Phillips who made a great sliding catch by his dugout. God, he's just a joy to watch, isn't he? He's the best. I like to be Gordon. You see the D strange Gordon pitch? Yes. You talk about throwing it, guys. Everybody. I don't think so. I think he's just throwing slow. That's what I did, John believe it or not, I pitched about my last two years. I think I threw about 12 innings in triple-A in the pieces. And yeah, I only gave up one run, and that was my fault. I gave up a run. By the way, it's so funny. It all comes together because the person that was hit by D strange Gordon the other day. That was darn. I gave up my only run to darnold's brother, Travis darnold. He hit a solo home run off me for the Giants organization. And after that, I didn't give up another run, but here was my plan. And this is why I gave up the home run, John. I threw that pitch 62 mph. That's my fault. That is way too hard. My goal from that point forward was to get the ball under 45 mph. I wanted to make sure that that ball never registered on the radar gun and I succeeded. It's an art John. It's a complete art. I mean, you might have extended your career if you kept it under a 60, you know, like a speed limit. Remember when speed limit was 55, you shouldn't get it under 55. You know, it's below hitting speed. Maybe you would have played another ten years. Or just saying. Who knows? My fastball at no point ever would have been pulled over on any highway in the United States. That's how good it was. I feel so good about it. But John, let's get to the most important thing of the day. It is time for Heyman's inside corner. I'm gonna ask you some questions and I really am interested in a couple of these because there's one thing that's taking place in Major League Baseball and that is in New York and The Bronx. Listen, Aaron judge, New York Yankees, it was rumored that they were going to have a deal by hopefully opening day. It was even kind of let out by one of the Yankees broadcasters that it was a done deal. Clearly not the case. So much so that Aaron judge got booed the other day. So question number one for you, John. How far apart are the Yankees and Aaron judge? And do you think this will get taken care of during the season? Next off season, what are we looking at right here? Yeah, first of all, that was Carlos Beltran who said they had a deal. That's on the air. As debut with yes network and they quickly told them to correct it. And a lot of people still thought they must have had a deal. I just didn't want to let it out. They're all sorts of conspiracy theories, but that was not the case. They never had a deal. And they are just not that close. Right now I'd estimate there are about $75 million apart and you know, my second column in the New York Post, I wrote about this and I suggest that he's taking a big gamble, you know? And I've since talked to some more executives who think possibly could end up on the wrong side of this, we shall see he's been obviously a terrific player. He is the face of the franchise. He sells more merchandise than most of their players combined, and you've got to give him credit. He's done a terrific job. He's in this position due to himself, and he's allowed to play it any way he wants. And if he doesn't want to take the deal, he wants to be a free agent, that's his prerogative. Now, I did say he wanted to be a Yankee for life, didn't mean he should take a deal. He's not comfortable with. Again, from when I talked to all the people I talked to, thought it was a reasonable offer. My understanding is the Yankees might have gotten a little bit higher, but not near where he wanted to be..

"And I would say that I'd be pretty relieved about the way that Bumgarner righted the ship as the season went on because I kind of thought like he might be done and he is not he actually pitched pretty well down the stretcher in the second half in general. So that's a relief, I would think, but that's about all I got when it comes to the Diamondbacks. Hopefully they are healthier. All right. I want them to continue to occupy this weird territory. This is a very selfish thing to say. I'm admitting it's selfish. Like I want the people I know who work for the team to keep their jobs and be professionally fulfilled and also, those tickets are so cheap, you know, sit in real good seats. It's pretty inexpensive, relative to what you'd pay other places. So I find myself conflicted about the Diamondbacks. 'cause, you know, does benefit me in some weird way for them to remain pretty bad. It's true. Well, they will probably be bad for at least a little while longer. I'm not sure exactly how far they are away from being good again, speaking of which. I guess we should discuss the Colorado Rockies. Yeah, we started this segment by talking about a team that always seems to have a plan and we are finishing with a team that never seems to or at least no one else understands what it is. It's an inscrutable plan outside that organization, so we talked about the rockies fairly recently because of the Chris Bryant signing and talked about the turnover in their R&D department, et cetera but do you want to talk about best off season moves? I mean, they did get Chris Bryant. It was a weird off season move, but he's a good player. Yeah, I mean, it was so interesting to see the actual going from, I think, what was a fairly like in our little circle pro labor experience to the rush of these signings and trying to figure out how these moves made sense if they made sense. If the values were there or not or whatever. And there was some meta commentary on people's willingness to say, players should go get money and then be like, LOL, rockies, this is a weird contract or whatever. And I don't think those are mutually exclusive, I guess. This is a good short, yeah, Chris Bryant is all 14 any team signing. Chris Bryant, if you had me ranked the teams that made sense to spend the money that they did on Chris Bryant, like the rockies weren't cracking the top ten. And I think that's where the confusion was and why it's not mutually exclusive. I think it's a good move to spend money on Chris Bryant, but like the rockies did it, and then also extended their current third basement and are playing Chris Bryan in left field. And it's just that they do it in the weirdest ways. It's not that it's always isolated bad decisions. Or anything like that, it's just, or even bad decisions at all. It's just weird. Weird. The weirdest team in baseball. Yeah, and I guess we should mention that they made another move shortly before we started recording. They traded raimel Tapia to Toronto for Randall Gretchen, so the rockies have Randall cricket now. Important for everyone to know. Any strengths that you would care to highlight on this roster? I don't know. They're hitting should be okay. I guess. Some of their pitching is fine. I think Herman Marquez has very quick. He's quite good. Yeah. Awesome gomberg was not bad last year. I'm not convinced he's actively good, but he was completely fine last year. Perfectly acceptable, especially given pitching in Colorado. Uh huh. I mean, I don't know. Would they also extended Antonio sends it to now that I'm looking at the roster, right? They did do that, yeah. Sure. I guess. It's just wild. I mean like the guy doesn't strike out more than 15, 16% of batteries. And he's good. Yeah. Judd gray. Here's the door. But yeah, I don't know. Everything this team does is, you know what, they extended CJ cron too, right? Was that this year? Yeah, they did that, or did they do it last year? I think he's a good fit for this team in this park. And I think he'll continue to hit very well. He's not a difference maker, but sure, like CJ crown is, you know, sure. Why not? And it's like a 14 and a half $1 million deal over two years. Like this is, it's fine. It's not CJ cron isn't going to hold them back, you know? That's really ver money. It's fine. Yeah, I don't strength. Again, I guess Mark has become one person, be a strength? Yeah, Chris Bryant also strength. Chris Bryant also a strength? Sure. You know, some of these people seem strong. As individuals, like they seem like they can lift things. Some of them are also tall. Can get things off of shelves. The nationally DH is a strength. I mean, getting Charlie blackman out of the field God bless. It's great. That's great for that. I love that for the rockies. I love that. I love that for them. Love it for them. Well, weaknesses. I mean, it just, it starts with ownership and with the front office, right? I mean, we could talk about weaknesses on the actual roster, but those seem almost immaterial. If I can say Ken Kendrick, like it's absolutely. Yes. And yeah, I mean, the whole organization just seems baffling at basically every level. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. This team, I'm just keep looking at the roster and I'm literally shaking my head. You guys can't see them. But I don't know what to do with that. Center field, I guess they just kind of, I wrote this yesterday. They just acquired grit shock, who's played a bunch of center. Yeah. Like it was Sam Hilliard? Yes. Which I wouldn't feel great about, I guess. Yeah. It's not awful. We still Jason still has Hilliard in center having added grit chicks so I don't know if that is him having heard. Yeah, they might do. I mean, who knows? He tends to, you know, he tends to know these things, but I would look at Chris Bryan and left and also think that was wrong. So it's a hard time. And I like Ryan McMahon. Yeah, yeah. I like Ryan McMahon. I thought that was fine..

"Simmons on ESPN radio ESPN app answers XM channel eighty it's against us but hang out with all of us they're good thanks to sell pencil forms line we can't have a week being in the college football and not have a conversation with coal cubits was put a stop to that madness as he joins us from the FCC never does a great job to call football analyst Ellis is getting a lot of local a lot of people of enjoyable for obvious reasons but who is the best team right now in college football in your opinion last week it was the Ohio state in recency bias will take over and I will say Alabama based on the way they dismantle Texas a and M. about they found their best office of line combinations I thought you saw more be able to get pressure in the middle that the fence Terrel Lewis moved around in their kitchen pressure into adjusted to a things to all those wide receivers Jaylen waddle seem to be the pick up I guess the wild card draw this week to go out and put on a show that group wide receivers ninety here since I keep getting a little bit more comfortable so I I think there's four five teams Freddie that are going to be able to do something different to impress me each and every week that I can safely say I feel like they're the best team in college football right now oddly no family I wouldn't have a problem with the Ohio state I would have probably tell if you are considering they had the majority that front seven back healthy against Florida which they're gonna have to have moved forward yeah you you look at the top ten right now cold you've got seven unbeaten this Penn state whiskey Oklahoma Ohio state Clemson Ellis you Alabama you served in the mock college playoff committee when these boys meet there is men and women coming up in a couple weeks if this stays true to a degree how hard is this going to be to decide the first top four in the next two it'll be tough especially I think is you got to New York to new blood there now right up with Wisconsin hasn't been there LSU hasn't been there those aren't teams that have been familiar to the committee so how difficult will it be for them to maybe not have Clinton in the top four not have Ohio state in the top four if those are teams that are under consideration and there's five or six on the feet teams are conference champion so I think that that that's going to be difficult to obviously like you said to a degree a lot of those two you're going to play each other you know has stayed in state are gonna play obviously much conflict in the play couple those teams Alabama LSU we're gonna play so it's it's that in some of that's going to work itself out Oklahoma's gotten past what looks to be their most difficult to their schedule may be outside of Baylor but it's I I were staring down the barrel right now of of having more teams didn't seem like they're going to fit in the college football playoff this could be tough for me that that's where you really begin to not only dive into your schedule but your opponents schedules and then Gaston Porter gonna matter if it was when it comes down to that you start looking at and how certain guys play in certain situations what teams did on the road how good teams are on the road and all with the all the point differential and and those are the or you dominate every facet of the game for four quarters of every game those are those are things that you begin to talk about a little bit cold you look at the SEC network here with us on Freddie if it's Simmons on ESPN radio ESPN app answers XM channel eighty easy if it's similar Freddie Coleman what happened to George last weaver's South Carolina couple things ready to turn over four times and they didn't take it away you do that at any level any division II conference a gift anything could change colors that talking I think a problem also played the worst game of his collegiate career I also think that you had a dominant defensive lineman they may place people who do not know the names of on can law should familiarize themselves with that name because he has moved into the first round and I think he's moved into the top half of the first round and after Kerr ground of offered in case young at Ohio state you'll be the next defensive lineman all or in the next NFL draft me this gift in South Carolina is six six two hundred ninety eight pounds sixteen percent body fat has an eighty seven inch wingspan he dominated Alabama he dominated Kentucky the dominated Georgia nobody has pushed him around this year he has made everybody look silly but also a good for for all of of the lady reporters in people who cover college football they just want to point the finger George often divided thing only got the pills kicked in they got pushed around the entire game not necessarily Jack I want him along with you I'm sorry what not true for couple reasons number one I feel like James calling from both got a little bit cute how they wanted to catch the football around because when I'm watching the first two quarters that game and I tweeted out George office declined came to play a lot of people would found that tweet after the game want to try to have fun with it say that that was the case with this did Nate well whatever but the reality was also the youngest with going well Swiffer eight Swiffer for Swiffer sevens with respect you could I would go look at the play by play in the box score but the Georgia office in the first two quarters that game because the second quarter second five seconds six second to second three they're winning on first down and they got too cute now I will say this Giovanni Cueball got his soul to the lebron James Kobe Bryant Michael Jordan effect pay their going to get their thirty five what are you gonna do to everybody else I think you did okay against everybody else but yeah I can log got his make them look bad at times there's the Mississauga by the right guard with a tackle for loss Eiji Thomas at left tackle got beat past relate the game and the guy who most people say is the best kicker in college football I don't know that because I don't know what does not use the best the worst kicker anything by email to bake cakes played the game that help call thirteen the game so there's plenty of blame to go around from late game management to play calling conservative play calling not staying with your run game turned the ball over four times and allow you to stick with you eight making place so that drops the active all the way for interceptions there's a taught the percentage of blame in the blame pie in that football game it's not eighty or ninety percent office of line like a lot of people want to believe you CJ cron keepers own read in that in that game hello to rob was blessed backside defenders that South Carolina defense they were coming back on the backside make the place of the run day and night and keep Iran from going from beginners thought take farm have five six seven eight nine thank you in the pocket didn't get rid of the football so don't don't for yourself and don't don't take don't tell ten percent don't take eight or twelve played out of ninety five plays that were run by single TBD game and try to convince yourself that that's the reason that that football team lost that game because it's just not real I thought it was Georgia's wide receivers also being a half a second off here there that was bigger than anything else to me those young what that young wide receiving corps for Georgia that that also led to from having and I agree with you the worst game is that in in his college career I fast forward to this weekend's go rapid fire Michigan Penn state the big game of the weekend ten states a big favor the same nine point favorite over the Wolverines white out at night Happy Valley quickly what do you say along with the Penn state office of line could hold up much better than I wanted to blind did against the Madonna brown's pressure packed is a few weeks ago I think Penn state it'll be fine I think they can outscore Michigan I think Michigan might be finding their offense but I don't think it's to the level that status just yet and I love that they brought back in the nation in fact I think it'd be like a rolling again how much wood since a let down could Alice you have number two in the country on the road Mississippi state when you be Florida and Alabama is on the horizon Freddie based on what I saw on film in Knoxville Tennessee last week I don't think there's much chance for that because there is not a more disappointing group than the Mississippi state front seven who I thought with Leona Lewis Willie Gary all time to come back don't you think the band I thought that was gonna be physically dominant defensive line and linebacking corps this year and they have not been that they got pushed around by one day more some traits that the company and the inconsistency the quarterback or something that you understand but how you're not getting the ball and put my hand your playmakers more often on offense I cannot get on board with that so I think Ellis you could be just fine John the good guards in Negus still banged up the bookends for Florida they're they're going to sell CAC a lackey there are five point favorite what do you say very very very dangerous game for the Gators one of the big reasons we just mention active on Kim all the foreign office one had played give all year they were a little bit better Phyllis you got the part that was the plan the damn ball and put together for them to help protect them but Kim all is going to be in this game and South Carolina can play man coverage keep that in mind because that allows prepares Robinson to either bring more guys to the box the blister bring pressure packages or to help on the back end in coverage I don't know contrast is that good yet to be able to deal with extra bodies on the back in the floor can still not find ways to keep this really run the football they might be in some trouble in this game without to their best defenders the South Carolina office of one grown a little bit featuring company or finding open the run game obviously from this comes down to the help of politically that he's able to go and what he's able to do Brian Edwards obviously the big playmaker little bit of a rivalry game with the holes for your must chant deal early game in Williams price that's a danger spot for the Florida Gators twenty seconds left if you got Clinton a twenty four point favorite over global how concerned should they be they could be a repeat of clubs in North Carolina early this year I would take with twenty four points just based on the way they're playing it and I'll I'll love what's got Satterfield twenty leopard in the coaching staff for doing that loophole thing their physical watch for contacting at left tackle he is a man I think he's going to push people around me Charlotte push the Clinton defense approx around a little bit when you put that film on so I'll be breathable to doing some great things with his group.

M. L. B. the commission should step in and say for a good week we're just going to cancel is zero just give it to the Yankees I think some of the fine the twins have no chill out was a thirteen straight playoff closest to the eighties yeah all my god this was everything you thought it could be he when you're this was everything you thought it could be a give the eighties credit they did everything they did they had a better offense yes they had better starting pitching data better bull pen but let's lead with this he plays stupendous the Friday and last night I mean so much labor or their deed how about the the people concerned about DVD in a regular season coming off that injury at Tommy John thirty minutes after a year and am concerned the only two thirty five whatever hit the yellow house he looks all foreign division not shabby shoddy you want to be signed maybe there is something to being clutch in October thank maybe that exists maybe that's a real thing and you look bad as first few at bats in game one yet but since then Didi Gregorius is Didi Gregorius not only does he had the two hits in the seventh in the ninth to put some insurance on the board let's go to the ninth inning in this game about twelve forty in the morning now the Yankees are a five to what you're feeling good I think the Yankee fan field I challenge you to get the last game was often this it was the second inning bases loaded nobody now I don't have to even the score I mean I could tell you right here's the thing so you in the ninth inning the Yankees don't have a back up right that's the the one radio right maybe it'll burn born in the LCS will see or the World Series we'll see but when you're super aggressive with your ball but you don't have a backup someone Chapin comes in to get a five out safe at the time it was a five out safe it turns out to be because even with the existing insurance fronts it's the same situation the guys they have to back them up in case you struggles would be J. have Tyler Lyons will recess to kind of allies again nobody really have that much confidence in and so cabin gives up the space to tomorrow and is also start the ninth inning and then this is the part we sail he walks CJ cron to this to wanna nobody out gets a huge strike on Max Kapler and then Jorge Polanco whose actually somewhat competent mysteries hits a screaming line drive David gold Nelson Cruz again the only other guided me scary when the twin right all right the tying run tell you know because it's a home run you know who's gonna grand slam but things get dicey if Didi Gregorius does it make I had long dive and rob a long ago of the base set so that defense of play in the ninth inning may have played a lot of people don't even see good about pulling your past that you drool over his cell I don't know but that play in ways was monstrous but it doesn't stop there eating with glamour Thorez yeah boy you see something else well how good is good labor freakin Torres he's on the outfield grass and I can imagine is a second baseman it's not exactly easy to just take place on the outfield grass he makes a dive knocks it down get solved makes a great pro and again that's a situation or if he doesn't make the play even we save the extra bass said the twins are given another opportunity to come back in this game but wait there's more how about Erin judge may commit leaping catch in the sixth you could argue that was the biggest catch a game at Allen judge is a thing about Aaron judge yes he has a lot of home runs yes he's big and strong he does everything Joe he's great times okay sends a team leader to always honor to state no doubt let's let let's you know let's go with that so we know you can use it all around terrific player but he's also the leader of the team as we saw that that video in the post Kennesaw engine why pounds a week is handing the Yankees championship title belt labor Torres he's the leader here the impressive thing about Erin judge I think he ended up finishing free for ten in this series with no home runs and no RBIs right to those numbers don't care about you he was awesome despite that he was awesome and that's a sign of a great player we don't have to hit forty home runs in drive eight runs and still be such a dominant force in this series and it was because he made all plays defensively his base running was great he spit on so many pictures to draw walks he's fantastic and the Yankees were fantastic let's face it everything about him no doubt about it they give lip major credit to Louis Severino who reminded me a little bit of the grime in game five against the Dodgers and fifteen in which Severino was putting guys on base every single inning especially that second that you mention when the bases are loaded nobody out got a second or two when was it the third inning as well yeah you got out of another jet air just showed so much poise and probably could pitch the fifth inning but we get it we know what's going on here with arable he's gonna be super aggressive in deploying is bull pen arms but give Severino a lot of credit for battling out of those games and continuing to plant the seeds in the minds of the Minnesota Twins that they have no shot against the big bad Yankee they got no shot I mean it's just it's really it's a it's a complete mismatch and that's what I thought it would be and that's what it turned out to be and I Yankees can sit and relax and not root for the Tampa Bay rays today because I I've already and I'm certainly the one that you know not only because you're going to see Tampa knock off Houston's on al but if for no other reason to extend these to a fifty game and you know all in game one I don't know if you get me exactly he pitched in game one you never know yeah I mean look if you he was a very good yes exactly no you're right look obviously you want to show us that to be a five game set right that goes ninety seven innings right I think we still fully expected the astra gonna advance that's gonna be the team you have to deal with I'd be surprised went today for Landis picture that I write Charlie Morton is not pigeon so you know no it's the bullpen today and I know it it's very early in the verse the terrible pain you never know but I think it's likely now we're really gonna get that Yankee Astor gathers but all the Yankees could on here was take care of business and and they did in and outside of being down to nothing in game one of which nobody should have been worried nobody should a panic the Yankees which is far superior to the Minnesota Twins in every every single aspect every aspect that again the bull pen the rotation yeah even the manager the thing hi Megan this point the other day because the more I think about it it's it's sort of true we we talk about how managers have been diminished in baseball these days right but here's why that's not entirely true when you are going to your bullpen in the fifth inning routinely the wearable and has not blaming him for it that's the strategy the Yankees gonna use you actually open yourself up to more criticism and more managing think about it if you're playing the match of show him the fifth inning on doesn't that deck I have a lot more manageable I watched the bright light of the Braves game yesterday and I too it's Nick of blow it because they were up for three in the eighth inning he's got calmly pitching great he's got four straight outs and he couldn't wait to get him out of the game to bringing green crime probably gave it all up and eventually they lose a game in one night beating tenth anyone ever lost a game yeah no you're right and Josh Tomlin had been pitching great he retired all four batters out no doubt but that's the thing about man young today do it it is more difficult for students in nineteen sixty eight I'm handing the baseball the Bob Gibson okay done or whatever you want your honor is whoever you sorry right that you're managing ya taking about what he's getting hit that's pretty much what you did so Allen Boone and it worked they won all three games yep yep he's been managing where every move he makes if it doesn't work can be criticized I mean let's look at something he's done twice in this series and it worked both times even though at the time you could look at it as a boy's real risky and that's pulling out a lot of you know after you walk somebody specifically Nelson Cruz he goes to Adam out of you know in the fifth inning that's if the Tommy came only came in gave up ahead give a hard hit ball they got an hour to go right out of right right to walk no sin cruise after that boom says that's it I'm all even a man I'm done I'm gonna Chad green it works but here's the concern about it here's where it could bite arable eventually it hasn't yet if you're using all your bullets in the fifth and sixth inning what if you need a bullet the ninth yeah what if you know your right right if Chapman those and have it I know you're on percent right but as you know we repeated this sentence over and over again managers are diminished nowadays are they really know they're having to manage more to what over managing going on no there is a lot over managed to stall L. I. I'm shooters Casey's would it be and told to make a move and not make a move and I'm not saying that sound boom but I'm I'm I'm sure there is that's going on I don't know how much you can script and how much.

"Later and people can't stop listening where you make the audience think about fourteen differ where you talk for you're not for and that's just for opinion for is that I really do love your show and I hate it when I miss it and I'm like man you know I really love your show bro it's later than you with bill later what a bag of the show thank you bring your bill runner with you you know him as the author of astro ball as the noster dominance of Major League Baseball is a very talented writer for Sports Illustrated maybe on Twitter generalized has been writer I know miss because it causes back Mr writer what's up man because how are you I love doing great let you you hold down things are the writers out there on the east coast yeah that's right are you doing well at here how are yours writers well I'll on the left coast let me ask you a very strange random question the you can deflect answer dive into you know do briefly what everyone we did we're just talk about this this is where but then writer your writers were just gonna I'm a huge like mailing go with it I was trying to rain we're gonna rank one to ten the best athletes of all time who are still competing for still active athlete doesn't it what that list would look like and I roughly came up with Mike trout Serena Williams Roger Federer lebron James Tom Brady Brady messy anybody I'm missing there and does that sound right on Mike trout in terms of just nine years into his career his level of greatness certainly I mean he's on track for his best season yet especially as far as power hitting I think there's no question that in baseball it's not a chat I think there was sounds pretty good to me hard to argue with any movement Tiger Woods to then writer here on on the show bent what do you make of the notion the idea that Mike trout is being wasted as it relates to baseball the whole is out we are squandering his greatness playing for a team that that again looks very likely to play in the postseason I think there's a lot to it this is a guy who is the greatest player of his generation already he's in his prime any has yet to win a playoff game through no fault of his own but here he is nine years into what is serving in the hall of fame career you've been a hall of Famer if he retires tomorrow there's no doubt about that and no one scene one of planting is hardly been in the postseason whatsoever it's a real problem for baseball as they try to wrestle with the wire we appealing to younger fans how to become as relevant as the NFL and Major League Baseball the fact that their greatest player one of the greatest in their history doesn't have more of a profile that's certainly something they have to figure out then right here on the show band with when you look at show I Tani and what he might be as a pitcher when he's healthy when you look at this organization farm system of the front office what what is your level of optimism or pessimism that my travel have a chance to win some post season games in a year or two or three relatively pessimistic I think one of the problems is the division there at the Astros the team that I know very well are built for the long haul they're not going anywhere anytime soon then you look at the eight the angels minor league system it's got a little better in the past two years Joe with dell is one of the top prospects in baseball he should be up as soon as maybe even next year to provide some further reinforcements to the trout tiny nucleus but there's just not much going on there you know they try these one year stopgap guy like Matt Harvey Trevor Cahill they never seem to work it seems like there several more years of Mike trout's prime away from being a competitive team all right so I know it's early I get it I know the Yankees won last night but they had to overcome an eight to deficit was a bonkers game they played against the twins do you think do you believe this even though the season that if the Yankees and the twins let's say were to play one another in the ALCS do you believe that the twins are a legitimate threat to go that deep in to win a series against a team like like New York I DO idea and look what a game that was last night game of the year that a doubt five lead changes for both phone save in a single game I think if anything the twins who of course have a terrible history against the Yankees stretching back years and years and years I think they do have a formula this year mixing a really athletic young nucleus would improve pitching staff and really really brilliant offseason signings like CJ cron no we cruise guys like that I think that they might be a picture of a way they don't have that shut down eight maybe it was a very oversized him that guy who can really take it to New York I think that or talk about all these pictures on the trade deadline the twins have to be considered the front runner for at least one or two of them and then writer when we look at those dentures Madison Bumgarner was considered a likely target for teams that want to go out there and get an arm the giants not today but they have played really good baseball post all star game and they've scrape their way into the wild Kerr conversation do you think for forums ID the GM there is change the equation in terms of being a buyer verses a seller what a one seventeen out of their last twenty one games in some ways this is a terrible development of our hand lady in this first here as the GM because it gives fans reason to hope reason to think Hey maybe we can do it again like we've done so many times well look if yours eighty you have to look at the facts according to stand graphs the giants still have a seven percent chance of making the playoffs even a one in a thousand chance of winning the World Series do you sacrifice the future pieces you can get her something like Madison Bumgarner who might only be with your team two more months or seven percent chance at a wild card I don't think so it's gonna be a really really tough call can a team with the game of five hundred cell I ultimately it's going to be what he has to do I think it's the smart thing to do for the future of the organization as unbelievably controversial as it will be in the near term I mean I yeah you got to do what's best for your organization and not win headlines in short term love an adulation of fans but that's a pretty and you said of and that's a pretty tough spot for foreign to be in his first year in that job really yeah we look like obviously the GM you want your team to win and they're doing that but it's put him in this really untenable situation where very few fans in San Francisco will take the long view and wanted to trade not only Madison Bumgarner but will miss is one of the best left handed relievers in only Sam dice in is that a great come back here as a reliever I think it's going to be what he has to do he's going to take a whole lot of heat if he does go that route all right so right now today there's a lot of that has to happen I understand that there's some very sick and have been in the in the post season do you have the Dodgers is the better team than the Astros today on this day right now I do right now that doesn't mean that they'll win a potential World Series against the Astros because as we know any seven game series is a crapshoot but certainly pound for pound especially in the death of the pitching staff in what Klay Ballenger's doing our Cody Bollinger I should say you have to consider the Dodgers is a better team right now I was feeling the Jeff window has a trick up his sleeve there's a couple arms out there who won't require him to sacrifice any the top prospects like Kyle Tucker maybe not Madison Bumgarner maybe somebody like Zack Wheeler from the mac a rental for a couple months you can give the actors those innings they'll need in the class and look when you're running out of Marylander and Gerrit Cole game after game to play out that's tough for anybody to be including the dot yeah I mean you're in you said the Astros the Dodgers the best team that I would argue that most when their respective division their respective leagues they are they're running away then you got the Boston Red Sox you know Jim reserving over whatever's going on I don't know where they are game or two back in the final wild card spot what do you think I think I figured out it is also going to be in the post season as a B. in order disappointment this year I think we're trending towards the latter that bull pen is a disaster it's not getting any better obviously they did not re sign Craig Campbell they were not in the sweepstakes for me ended up with the cubs but it's just a really tough situation for them at the end of games there and the problem is every other team of the trade deadline is also looking for relievers hitting pitching hate saying this time of year and you look at the red Sox system it does not have those GM that it once did and it's gonna be a struggle for them what do you make of the buyers that might come out of the more into the market in the NL central do you think St Louis Milwaukee my cubs get aggressive over the next week everything the walkie might be the most aggressive of those teams in part because of what they have in in the minors in part because of their needs they were very clear need for pitching of course everybody does but if one of those teams can be the most aggressive the crest of I probably think it's David stern's of course the former after the fifteen GM is now the top job in Milwaukee then if you're if you're far on if you're somebody else if you trade a a highly coveted arm in a market where there's a lot of teams that want that what kind of return are you getting on that kind of a player those kinds of players over the next few days we'll probably less than you would a few years ago I think everybody says dean what a team like the cubs gave up responded like a roll this chat right like yes it worked they won the World Series but now the Yankees and labor tore as for six years no team really wants to go down that route with no World Series guaranteed of course but for somebody like Madison Bumgarner I think you could conceivably bring back maybe not a team first or second best prospect but third something like that try to give me a let's see some predictions here and I'll central division winner when it's all said and done is going to be who I think it out to be the cubs I mean you look at the fundamentals the kind of run differential starts really meaning something that this time of year because the plus sixty seven the brewers are twelve runs under water in that division the cardinals are only a plus eighteen I I think the cubs are still the tech in the NL central whether it's the cubs or Atlanta or somebody gets out in the wild card who is the is there a match up or or just a teen the you think if the Dodgers get tripped up before the World Series is there a most likely culprit for that in the National League you know I still think that the national.
