"His new book is unmasked. My life solving America's cold cases. Paul holtz, welcome to fresh air. Thank you for having me. You know, I think we should begin by just telling our listeners that we are going to be talking about some horrific crimes on the show today. And while we won't be giving graphic descriptions of crimes or crime, scenes, we will be talking about cases that involve murders and sexual assaults, so it may not be appropriate for all listeners. Paula want to start with a scene that's kind of at the end of the story of this quest for the Golden State killer. And this is at a point when you and other investigators have identified the guy you think is going to be him, a 72 year old guy named Joe Deangelo. You're nearing retirement from government service. And you do an unusual thing you take a visit to his house when he has so far had had no contact with investigators. Tell us why you went, what happened? Well, after 24 years of pursuing this Golden State killer, utilizing new technology, this genetic genealogy technology about a week prior I had been made aware that this Joseph Deangelo was possibly related to the Golden State killer, and after investigating him for a week, and realizing I was going to be retiring the following week, I decided he was a prime suspect, and every time I had a prime suspect in this case, I have to go see you. Where are they living? What are they driving? What is the neighborhood they're living in like? And so on a Monday, I drove up to Citrus Heights, California, which is in the Sacramento area, and parked in front of his house. His car was in the driveway. I knew he was home. But I have been here with prime suspects before, was he really the guy. And so I started debating. Well, I'm retiring tomorrow, actually just hurting my badge and gun in the next day. I'm not sure he really is the Golden State killer, so I started to debate. Should I just go knock on this guy's door? He's a former law enforcement officer. Maybe I can establish a bond saying, hey, you're a former cop. You understand how this goes. I'm looking into an old case. Chuckle chuckle, and let's just get this over with, give me a sample of DNA and you'll never be contacted by an investigator on this case again. If you're not the guy, but as I sat there, I realized the various aspects

And and so far, Dr Fauci and the rest are saying, you know, you don't really need one at this point. Yeah, that's what thought, she said over the weekend. But he said in the future we might Is that in the future? Yeah, It's interesting to note that when you look at the vaccine schedule, the CDC vaccine schedule like overall vaccines for healthy adults, the only Vaccine that requires booster Currently on the list is the flu vaccine. That's it. You're supposed to get a flu vaccine each year. The rest of them. I mean, there might be, you know more than one dose, but in terms of boosters Um, it's there's the only vaccine healthy adults are supposed to get more than once a decade. Is the flu shot. I was going to say it if if memory serves me on this, there are some vaccines out there where they say over a course of time. You should Maybe go back and get another boost. Right? Right. You should get a second dose, not annually. No. No. So that's interesting. So you're wondering, what are they seeing in the research that makes them think they need? We need a booster this soon, right? Because what we're hearing now is if you've been vaccinated, you are likely protected from any variants so far, right and and the the Studies on natural immunity. Yes, show even better, right? So you're wondering what is happening in the research, so I haven't seen any research reports that show Like the efficacy drops off at some point. I haven't either, and I haven't heard that suggested. But obviously, if fighters having this discussion today, they must see something right. They? "We have another mailbag question Peril. She is over there in Citrus Heights. And she says, the thought of having an actual plan like you guys always talk about on the radio. It really sounds awesome. Everything in writing so we can finally understand our money. We've had advisers over the years and I've never had a written plan. We've done it ourselves at times and, of course, have never had a written plan because we didn't know how to create it ourselves. We have almost $1.9 million saved. Is this enough for an actual plan or do we have to continue to work and save a lot more? Can you please describe again? Exactly what a written plan is. And how this works, Carol. Great question. You're right on track. It is time that you demand a written plan. Without a written plan. It's like building a house without an architect. You have to have a plan in place and the problem out there today in the industry. There's very few firms that actually do written comprehensive plants because unless you have a comprehensive plan in place, you're going to go blindly through life and hope that is going to work out and you ask what is a written plan consist of. Well, I can tell you what are written plants consist of It's a variety of steps that have to be taken place before a plan to put in place. First of all, we have to do a risk analysis for you. We have to determine how much risk you currently have in your portfolio that we have to do a fee analysis for you. Then we have to identify every single objective you and if you're married your husband have and we document those objectives. Then we have to understand how much are you willing to lose in the next market crash? Once we have that information, then we start the process of the plan. The first thing we do is build an income plant Indian. Besides, we do the income plan. What would be next in the process? Once you do the income plan, and that fits someone's objectives, and we have to find out how much tax they're going to pay and what their net income is going to be after taxes. So let's say if we create a plan that generates 100 and $50,000 of income per year, and that's approximately $12,500 of income per month. Gross income before taxes. What are they going to receive net and a lot of people think back to their working days and take Oh my gosh, I only got half of my money Net income each month. Well during retirement. If you're generating $12,500 gross income, you're probably going to net somewhere around $10,000 or a little bit more after taxes. So you end up having maybe close to 80% of what you're going to gross, which makes it easy then to hopefully have a great retirement and that tax analysis is key, because what everybody wants to do? Is create that information. They want to know how much can I spend per month without worrying about my money running out and without having to worry that I'm either overspending or taking a big loss and have to stop spending my money, So we want to help you feel comfortable spending the money without guilt or worry, then we have to do If you're concerned about your beneficiaries, or just concerned about future costs in the future for yourselves, we gotta find out based on conservative numbers. What you can potentially have left later down the road. Whether it's for you for medical costs or long term care costs are big purchases or how much you're going to be able to leave your beneficiaries. If that's important to you, So we want to use conservative numbers. Then we have to tie everything together. And that comes down to writing out anywhere from a 12 to 24 page document, a written document that goes through everything about your money and your plan what you had when you came in to see us what your worries were, what you're trying to accomplish. Then how we're going to create a plan. What are the advantages and disadvantages of that plan where the cost and piece of your new plan or whether the step by steps you're going to have to go by to make sure you have a high probability Your plan's gonna work, And then we read that out loud to you. We sign it, and now you have something. That's a document that shows what you should be able to expect to happen over the next 30 years of your retirement time. "If you look at a school district school board, and they're going back historically and looking at people for whom schools have been named in their honor. With the thought of renaming those schools because there was something unacceptable about their background. And I will acknowledge that some of the people who are memorialized by having schools named after them distant things that I find repugnant. But I think you gotta take the good and bad with people because I don't care how wonderful somebody is. How wonderful their contributions. Maybe there are things about them that are not reflective of all those good deeds. That's just a fact. Folks. We're human beings. We're fallible. S O Look think about Ronald Reagan. President Reagan, One of my other favorite presidents who the has all sorts of things, obviously named in his honor to including the airport. And, of course, the 1 18 freeway that takes you from the San Fernando Valley to see me Valley where the Reagan Library is stretch of freeway that's named Ronald Reagan Freeway. Would you want to see that renamed? I certainly would not. But he would. His time acknowledged that there were saying things that he did as a young man that he found personally offensive himself. He regretted having behaved in a certain manner. Nonetheless, the contributions he made as the governor of California and as the president, United States, most notably are extraordinary and worthy of recognition, In my opinion, and obviously in the opinion of those who have made those decisions, So do we want to purge all of that? Defy to try and find somebody. Who who has always been in air quotes here on the right side of every issue. They don't exist because we make mistakes. We change our opinions on things again. Classic example is President Obama's 180 degree departure, but there were, he said in 2004, based upon his Christian beliefs. He was opposed to gay marriage. That all changed s so if in the future at some point Whether it be a group of people that will be seeking to remove any kind of recognition of President Obama because of his 2004 position on gay marriage. That's how I think this this effectively has the potential to play out. And it could be benign silliness, But I sense there is a little bit more at play. Let's get your calls. 808 34 15 30 David is patiently waiting in Sacramento. David Good afternoon. Welcome to the conversation. Thanks for holding on, sir. Good afternoon. Hey, You know what? This is Never gonna stop. As long as they have things named after people. It's always going to be taken up or some way or some reason. So, you know, let's just name things after animals. You know that people simply because you know animals can't see anything to offend anybody. They can't cry, You know? Pour me for this like, Well, it's interesting. You bring that up, David, because pita The people for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have now published a list of terms that ought not be used. For example, If a person is sloppy, you should not call him a pig because that denigrates pigs. If somebody is fearful you should not call him a chicken because that denigrates chickens. If there's slimy and slippery, you should not call him a snake. Because that denigrates snake somebody's a snitch. You shouldn't call my rat and so on and so forth there. Is there a list of prohibited terms. My reaction of that is I wonder if it's okay to refer to them as they particular part of a horse, but which Your point and again. I have a little bit of reluctance in terms of of naming institutions after people, But I also concede the positive side of it and s. So if if it's Done with a lot of consideration a lot of thought and his people who have really truly made a contribution. Who knows what some of these people father who knew Paro Sarah is a classic example. He was. He was a priest. He is mission was to save souls and build churches build missions all over the state, which he did in and now the course they say that he was abusive to the native Americans. I don't know how well documented that is. I don't know what it was. Like for the time. But is that wipe out the good works that he did? And of course, a lot of the institutions that bear his name, our private religious institutions and their good luck changing those. I don't think it to see that is happening. But your point's well taken and I think whatever which would I surmise from your car, your comments Is that so much as we are all human beings, all fallible all make mistakes in. Perhaps we're not in lockstep agreement. If you think about people, you know your best friend, the closest people to you in your life. There are things about with you, which you disagree with them. And so if they're out of step with you wanna given issue that you d exist? Them? I would. I would hope not. David. I appreciate comedy called very much, sir. Let's check in with Roy in Citrus Heights, Roy. Good afternoon. Welcome to the conversation. Thank you for holding on, sir. Yes, uh, breath taking lack of enlightenment down in San Francisco. And then if we judge everybody from that, far back by our values of the president Then how ignorant is that? Most visionaries from those days couldn't live up to the high standards that they proclaimed. We should all aim for. I mean, Jefferson, all those fine words about all men being created equal when he knew that he was living in a system. Where you felt trapped by what had been left to him, and he couldn't find a good way out. The Dido Henry Clay, I read a book called Balled into by B. F. Skinner. Whether was a utopian community and it was a novel, but Journalist is visiting, seeing how they're transforming the way people think and live and striving for higher moral standards and the Children all acting so perfectly, but just because they've given him positive reinforcement and conditioning their behavior without a stick. Carrots on Lee, only good stuff and the guy who started it all and ran it all. You know, your spells don't use tobacco and alcohol and drugs. And this and that, and the reporter went to visit him in his private office and noticed that he ate foods that they weren't supposed to eat. And he had cigarettes and he drank. He had a private stash. And he said to him while you're a hypocrite you you don't live up to the highest standards of this place. You built in the the man that's running the place, looked at him and said, I'm not a product of Walden two Yeah, I think that's a good illustration and I can give you good, good counsel all day long and how you should live your life. I don't always follow that council myself. There's just so much to this. In terms of expectations and the absurdity that I think they've displayed here. We'll take care of some other business here real quickly. We're coming right back with more your calls right after this..

"Second. All these 10 12 20% rates I could get rid of all my credit cards, my car, My student loans, my personal loans. I could eliminate this debt. Fix my credit. Be a better customer get better rates every time I need to utilize my credit for life because of this movie, and then they'll just call me back and six months go no cash out. Drop the rate. They'll do it through a customer appreciation program, so That is something that's been working great for us. That's how my one my favorite bankers, Travis Dick, for those that got the work with Travis. That's how he got famous that our company, he was my best banker. We had him working on these things called the Rop Re origination program. It works so well that we said when we just do this for every customer moving forward. That's how network Capital was able to grow so fast. It gets the customer the right rate for life. It gets us a customer that's loyal that sticks with us and let's be real. When the market goes higher. No one's going to get you guys the refinance. It won't make sense. So we get to do business together. Our pastor moving in the right direction at the same time, I believe in this market. I think you'll believe in network capital. Here's your chance to make contact today. The rate Let's go over the 30 year fixed. This is real 2.375% the apres had 2.39 you can register and lock these loans today at 855 on radio. That's 855 on radio and Shawn. I didn't tell you this before the show, But yesterday I was with my eight year old I almost never Pick up a call when I'm with kids, but I thought it was you know that that our capital prefects well, let me make sure everything's okay. I pick up the phone. It was this lady named Patricia from Network capital. And she was just calling to see if everything was going OK. If there's anything I needed. She was so nice after we hung up the phone, my eight year old, said Mom. That lady sounds really nice, and he was like, you know, I should give her a shout on on the phone. Name's Patricia. I said, By the way, I know I have a long, crazy polish name, but I'm Teresa Strasser from the radio show. Do you know Shawn? Better, she said. Of course I do. He's so nice. And I said, Well, I will give you shat out, so there it is. But, you know, it's not just Patricia and Travis Dick on by all the top one. What do they call the 1%? The top 1% of the top. The top one percenters, the folks that network capital have set themselves apart for a long time. And they've weathered, you know, including the big mortgage crises and other um, international conflicts. Um, they weathered ups and downs. Because they want they specialize in mortgages. Unlike a bank, this is all they do They know everything like you said. They know how to cash get cash out. They know how to fold in the credit card debts and get rid of them. But they also really pride themselves on customer service. And as I mentioned there over 5000 reviews online, I should leave one for Patricia and get her last name. I wanted to share Deena's with you. She's out in Citrus Heights, California listens to our show on KFBK that's out of Sacramento. She posted this on the consumer affairs website. But their reviews about network capital wherever you find reviews online Dina Rights are refinance process with network Capital was a breathe. I called out of the blue back in October, looking for information on how to refinance our home loan without a broker. I was planning on making a few calls. But after speaking with Michael Nowak I didn't need to look any further. Michael helped us with our refinance and secured us amazing rate. He maintained communication throughout the entire process with texts, phone calls and emails. Keeping us updated Priscilla Carmona are closing processor helped us close the loan quickly walking us through the final steps. The loan is complete, and we are very grateful. Grateful for Michael and Priscilla's support and kindness. Will Dina a huge thank you on behalf of Michael? No. AC and purses. Priscilla Carmona. They still appreciate that. You took the time to write this. It's very kind. And of course, you and I. We've been reading these reviews on the air for years. And this is a thing that comes up a lot. They maintained communication throughout the process. There were texts. There were phone calls. They were e mails. I know from my personal experience when you need to reach somebody you can and it doesn't matter if it's business Hours are bankers hours. This is not a bank. This is a direct lender. Yeah. Direct Linder gives you huge advancements to get in this thing that the right deal that you want so like if I want access to the lowest rates three. I'm going direct. I'm going with the decision makers. I don't want a bunch of Hoops and hurdles and things that are going to slow me down like I don't want to run with the parachute. I'm trying to get to the finish line of savings as fast and easy as possible. That's what the customers want. Also, I don't want to pay a bunch of fees on a one lender fees like those air internal charges like you're already charging me an interest rate. I believe in my heart. That's enough. Like I'm not going over pay for a service. Another thing that I like is less documentation communication. Not working a 9 to 5 gig, So I'd say one thing, And I really like about nowhere Capital was they hammer the phones like these guys are overly communicated. So like they want to make sure that you're definitely like aware of the timeline of events, the next step where you're at in the process to give you the next step in this process. That means a lot to me. If there was one word to stress throughout the show, it's communication. I believe in. I think you guys do too. So let's communicate the Why. Why do you need some savings? What would you do with the savings if you Could tell them this. They'll be able to take the next steps and customized alone around your.

Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones On The Arrest Of The Golden State Killer

"On the case of the golden state killer an arrest made last night i talk a little bit about this case i'd like to make just a couple preliminary comments when i became sheriff from sacramento in two thousand and ten there were very few outstanding cases that drew the passion and the interest and the dog determination to solve as east area rapist the sheriff that i took over from sheriff john mcguinness who's here with us today told me about the importance of it i don't know that i fully appreciated at that time but i can tell you without exception weekly sometimes more telephone calls or emails to this day from former employees former detectives community members from all over this country that believe that they know or at least have some information on who the east area rapist was committed to do everything that i could to solve it had a lot of conversations early on with district attorney shubert about how we can do it and those discussions really touched the passion of both of us to solve this case both of us committed the best and the brightest are handpicked folks to oversee the resolution of this case and gave virtually unlimited resources and freedom to pursue whatever leads technology currently existed so that i can tell you that over the last few days as information started to point towards this individual we started since avalance we're able to get some discarded dna and we were able to confirm what we thought we already knew that we had our man yesterday afternoon in a perfectly executed arrest my detectives arrested james joseph di angelo seventy two years old living in citrus heights i can tell you that although it was dna ultimately that led us down the right road there are a lot of places that road could have led i don't want to underscore i can't underscore enough the absolute human factor the dogged determination of not only the detectives working on this case but the passion of the district attorney myself the community and the victim's all too often we forget about talking about the victims and today we at least brought the first step towards closure for those victims of these horrendous crimes
