"Again, my wife being more cautious than me was saying, why are we going to? We're going to be you know what you what are you gonNA do for Work and You. Do you know anybody and it's like no I don't and I don't know and it'll be fine. she's like well, you know you should think about the Circus Soleil got shows out there. You should think about that. You think about that I'm Mike Non. Great don't get me wrong. I'm not interested in that's not something I wanNA do. And she kept hounding me man she kept how let me you that be right up your alley. Well come to find out it is. But I was like man I'm just I don't see myself doing that you know but she held the me so. God I kind of I went to the circus La website, and then there's a couple more stories in there. But the short version is I went to their website. There was no auditions being called a just had general music and submit submit a video your honest to God I did this to please my wife to say because she was how honestly how to me about I was like all right I'm going to do it just so I can say look I did it I tried to get work I'm trying really hard So I shot this video and my studio in Atlanta. And when I did it again are always try to sometimes to my detriment I I, try to go above the call of duty was basically you know an iphone videos. Cool. We just WANNA. Hear you play. Well, you know me I i. do like three camera shoot and like you know multi record it, and like an I know enough and final cut pro I ended it. Myself created this really nice looking video did a introduction about myself fell short revised version. And I did it man and I said there done. Joseph. Patrick Patrick. So I was like look I'm I did it job resume submitted and so we moved out here again no work totally forgot about it man honest to God I. It year had gone by because that was like two thousand sixteen in this time it's two thousand seventeen we moved out here or House closed on our house were here kind of getting in the vibe out here getting transitioned. And we close our house in March and August one day randomly again, I'm just still meeting people here in town. You know get my studio setup here and doing some stuff and I get this phone call from Montreal and the Guy Goes Joseph calling on behalf? Circus Soleil. We've had an opening at a show called. It the MGM and we think you'd be a perfect fit and we're GONNA WE'RE GONNA, put you in the pipeline and you're going to be getting a call from the MD. So I get a call from them the and he said, Hey Joseph My name's Richard the MD of the show and You're one of three candidates for the show and goes I just WANNA. Let you know I'll be back in touch. And so. But there is another story I do have to share because it is important and it was very important. So that the I'm not the guy on the show I'm what they call an on call artists, which is a glorified term I'm a sub on the show. Okay. But I'm on contract and I have been on contract now for three years. It's year. To year. But the guy on the show is a bass player named Derek. Jones and Derek is a monster player. Incredible. Incredible. Do Incredible Player He you know in the show, you have to play electric fretless an upright and and so I do that but but it's his gig basically every chair every chair in. Say again, every musician in that band has to have to on-call artist. In case they get sick and under contract you are you are guaranteed. So many shows a month. So I've got guaranteed work every month for you know and then if something happens it than they got the show covered, you know anything curtains up as they like to say sure. But the here's the weird thing man so. Back in two thousand three when I was with this band blue ground undergrads. We were an Oscar were underground wrong blue blue. Say it again. So back. To undergrad blue ground undergrads was like a hippie jam band bluegrass band with drums and hardcore bluegrass hated it because it had drums put the pedal steel player had distortion pedals and like Kendrick stuff and it was it was a lot of fun. but we played this festival in two, thousand, two or three. It was called the old settlers festival outside Austin. And on the bill was speaking, enjoy went down the devil went down Georgia was it was blue grandma undergrads and then a band called Nickel Creek and then the Charlie Daniels band. and. So we played and I'm hanging out. You know we have we had a tour bus. We're hanging out backstage and there was this weird guy who played with nickel. Creek the space player and he had like a stick Bass, the Electric Upright Bass and I did too. And he was like you got that I was like Whoa dude you that and we hit it off. Well, it turns out that was Derek Jones wow. Derek. Is the Bass player on Kyw here and Yeah Plus Vegas now now now too fast for back to. Dared. Now, the way the cirque thing works he didn't, and he told me this, he didn't really pull strings and he didn't necessarily get the GIG but he did he did vouch for me I. Think I think from what I've heard from a couple guys then. Basically, the way it worked was. The three candidates for the GIG. What they did is the whole band got together with the indie. They watched all our videos that we did that I had done two years ago or a year and a half ago that point. And then they talked about it. and. I talked about their strengths and weaknesses. And that sort of thing and but it's it was voted on by the band by committee who would get the GIG and then you'd have to go in and the course kind of do another audition once they kind of said. You're the guy to make sure that you're really the guy you know So anyway, all that to say dare at least I did know Derrick Derek you me. So I think there was a little bit of Poland Meyler about and for me, but it's not like one hundred percent got me the GIG but I'm not so sure he didn't have something to do with it again, going back to relationships and experiences and you never know thing. that. They really clearly man and Austin when we're doing the old settlers fessel, we hung out and played bass, and at the time he was real into CS Lewis and he was into that book the diary. What was the? the book here. Everybody's screaming at me right now I can't think of the name of the book, but we talked about that book and we just clicked man we hung out for hours that day and I remember that really vividly and dude, we never talked again until you know all this time all.

"Absolutely absolutely. And what was the what was the question even? Scratch. So so there was the blue ground and then that led to Michael Culture and two thousand and two or three, and so Michael. He's a great songwriter when I met him I actually had to audition for his GIG. and. It was a little nerve nerve wracking man because I walked into the room it was the music union in Atlanta and they had counted the how did it lead to the Gig what was the kind of exact scenario? So how'd you get the call for the audition? So I was friends he since passed away Yawn Rico Scott, we did a lot of work together over the years. He just died last year old man I didn't know that Y'all were close we were very close and for those that don't know Yawn Rico he played with the Derek trucks band for sixteen years Dental. Peabo Bryson with Houston stevie wonder did lost stuff but I met him through. Colonel Bruce, Hampton And we he actually played one of my albums and became really good friends and he knew Michael I didn't know Michael. And he was actually the a consultant squat music. He wasn't music director. He wasn't in the band, but he was actually looking for players to be Mike to Audition for Michael. So he called me said, Hey, man, there's this cat you might want to consider auditioning for so. I showed up off. And Michael was signed to record label at the time called J records, which was a subsidiary of Clive Davis's. Well was basically Clive Davis Label And when I showed up to audition, of course, I knew all this and his his album had already been done. It was quest love on drums and was lend the record sound his his debut record was just about to come out. It sounded amazing. So there was all these intimidating things you know, and so I'll walk into the audition room. There's video cameras said everywhere, and so when we did the audition Michael and I clicked really well but I knew this video was being sent to the record label guys in New York and I don't know if clive ever had anything to do with it. But I know the couple people around that label did anyway I got the GIG. That led to a lot of really cool experiences. That GIG end do in two, thousand four. And there was a guy in the band at that time who you may know a guy named. Ben. Snyder. Do you know. Absolutely, plays guitar and fiddle the did and. We. Do you play devil went down to Georgia within? At a summer camp and Florida in funny story about that Gig, I got the call. The night before. And, at the time, this is one of the biggest camps going on was big stuff that they pro. I think. On big huge camps or whatever I, got the call the night before hey, can you be down here to play the next four days? Guitar player bailed whatever. So I'm listening to the music driving down millenial, my wife and They do a bunch of cover songs I it was the big thing to do like every session starting with some kind of secular tune and we did devil went down to Georgia he played on it but I had to learn it. From scratch in like. The Ho- The hotel room that morning with no sleep. Oh, that's that's that's a that's a challenge. Do Gay bound to down to down to. Some off stuff on that Sean though it's it's a fun song to play. anyways. You were saying before I interrupted you know it's cool. Man didn't know that I knew about bitcoin realize you had played their. Events neither before great dude. He has been was in Michael's band towards the end and we were all kind of it's a long story but we were all kind of let go and Michael about six months later ended up getting dropped from the label at that time we were we had just done a tour with Maroon five did six weeks, five and Gavin to Gras, and one of the last shows we play was the Roseland ballroom in new. York. And Yeah. That was one of the last shows we did but ben I you know like everybody else we kind of click and everything was cool. And win the GIG was over. He called me one day said hey man, there's this church called northpoint. I'd never heard of it even being in Atlanta since ninety six and he's like, Hey, man I got you hooked up for play this inside out thing on a Sunday you WanNa do. Yeah. So that was two, thousand four. And then. One. Thing led to another are on that end and I ended up playing an point basically every Sunday for the next ten years and they opened up multi campuses all over the town. So I was bouncing around different ones. You know some more than others. And of course, during that time I was doing other things I'm still doing my crazy music and playing with throughout the week and still manage into tours at the same time in the week and you know so but that's how all that involved with in the church world was through Steiner basically. So cool. So you got involved planet chart. So you're doing all kinds of stuff. So chart planted a church is just one tenth of what you're doing musically throughout the week it sounds like it was. So which leads me to not interrupt. You don't believe me to a point Yep for me I was always I was I been in bands obviously, you mentioned the Rock chronics earlier we out CD in two thousand fourteen I've been different band throughout my career..

"Bus podcast on your host Jay and today we have just an incredible Bass player Joseph Patrick more. He currently lives out in Nevada Vegas and place for or near Vegas and place for the residency Cirque du Soleil show out there which if you've never been to certain Soleil, look them up check out some of them, all the musics done live. It's like this weekend circus but all the music is performed live and it is no walk in. Park before that man Joseph has so much experience and wisdom to share. We can do probably fifteen interviews and I hope we get to. But this the next couple episodes are interviews with Joseph. Patrick more. They're just packed full of wisdom grabs heat listen. Hope you enjoyed. That was a product of music education. But when I got the GIG on Bill Street and I was playing seven nights a week for three years. That was a whole other school I'd walk over to him onstage. Go to what is this? I don't know any because just follow my left hand off left hand. What's your wife thinking through this? Always feel like you're only as good is the last note you play. You're only as good as last song you played you're only as good as last Gig you did you know the room was at right the food's not right man the sound chicks, my mantra suck I mean do that sinks ship really quick. There's a lot of people out there in the music business who don't have the greatest talent. Wildly successful. Joseph.

How the Expos can finally return to Montreal

"The Montreal Expos never went away. Expos take the field here at Olympic stadium in Montreal the second game before game series, the Expos left. They left Montreal. They became the Washington nationals. They went off to play baseball in DC while Olympic stadium. Their former home sat empty and decaying the teams famous mascot UP even went to work for the Montreal Canadians because even furry orange monsters gotta eat. The idea of the Expos of a major league team in the heart of Montreal the modern monument to a sport with deep history in the province that never entirely vanished. There were always a few people some of them loudly and most of them very quietly keeping the fires burning mostly they were dreaming. But sometimes they were planning for the Tim's eventual return, and somehow that return might happen. The sport of baseball has changed. The city of Montreal has changed the business of sport in general has changed an unbelievably as cities around North America. Celebrate baseball's opening day today. It is beginning to seem like the team that never really went away is suddenly very close to coming back. How did this happen? How real is it? What does baseball mean to Montreal to Quebec or to Canada? And we'll those fans who refused to abandon their team. Even after their team, abandoned them finally get their happy ending. I'm Jordan heath Rawlings. And this is the big story. Jeff Blair is the host of the Jeff Blair show on sports net. Five ninety the fan. He is the co host of the lead podcast with Stephen Brent knows a lot about baseball in Montreal because he covered the Expos for the zette for about a decade and for the global mail after that so it's opening day to day. There's no baseball in Montreal today. Not yet. But Montrealers are very excited this week. Why is that? Well, I think they should be excited. I mean, I covered the Expos from eighty eight to ninety seven on a full-time basis. And I was there when when the team ended up leaving town part of a franchise swap that saw the Expos go to Washington and saw the ownership of the Boston Red Sox in my and Miami Marlins change as part of the process at that time. There was very little support from the local business community. There were there was a very small collection of minority partners who were in for maybe million two million dollars a year, very small. They had been effectively bought out in a leveraged buyout by Jeffrey Loria was a New York art dealer who came in and saw that I think at the end of the day ended up putting in about twenty five million US of his own money into that team and that up buying it. And then when he sold the Marlins that was for one point three billion any that's but at that time. Time when when the Expos left the Commissioner was committed at the time, but ceiling was committed to bringing baseball back to Washington. It was it was a legacy thing for him. The Expos has I mentioned had no local corporate support. There was no political support. I mean, they didn't have a political champion in the mayor's office. They they had no political champions provincially as a matter of fact, when you know, I think when you talk to people who are involved in sort of the post Charles Bronfman area era, the expo is one of the things they'll say is that they were affectively screwed by p q government. There was just there were there was there was there was no reason to keep the Expos and much there. There is a plan to build a new ballpark was completely stillborn. So there was absolutely no reason for the Expos to stay in town. And of course, attendance it had had decreased while fast forward. Now, you have a new Commissioner rob Manfred. Who also even though he's only been inter for few years. Just thinking of his legacy and his legacy is in. Internationalizing the game. You've seen baseball games. Played in Japan. Baseball will play a game at Lord's Cricket Ground. This year the Red Sox and the Yankees. And rob Manfred has said that he thinks Montreal is a viable baseball market. He also thinks Mexico City's viable baseball. Mark in Montreal itself. You have a really well-funded core ownership group, Stephen Bronfman of Claridge investments, the son of Charles Bronfman and Mitch Garber who's kind of a fascinating guy. Mitch when I first met him. He's a lawyer his uncle was a lawyer who represented a lot of Expos players in and around Montreal Tim Raines, he keeps kind of a fixer for them. And I I mean that in a positive way Mitch also hosted a radio show late night. I mean, he was a dabbler really talented guy. He is now president of Caesars acquisitions international, essentially lives in Monaco. And he's on the French CBC French language version of dragons. Dan. He's he's he's a very he is shaker and mover. He was I believe I don't know if he's still as he was CEO of Cirque du Soleil at one point he's got a lot of money scuttle resume. He's got and he's and he's and he's a billionaire. He and Stephen Bronfman both known each other for while that they have they've kept the dream of baseball in Montreal alive. They done it very quietly as is their manners people. They're both fairly quiet, quiet. People very quietly. They had Denny co dare when he was mayor of Montreal who is a huge baseball. I mean, he's an he's a nut. But he's a huge baseball fan. And he you know, he was show up at every baseball event. The all star game the World Series it show up at the Commissioner's office. He he'd go to the Expos or the Blue Jays games every spring spring training just to kind of fly the flag and lobby for and lobby for a team to return to Montreal and the provincial government, both the liberal government. And the new government are very the very comfortable with the idea of entertaining, some sort of public private partnership. So what we have now is. Commissioner who views internationalizing the game as an important part of his legacy. We have people in Montreal ton of money. What we don't have as a team revolt park. Obviously we have Olympic state, and we don't have a team or ballpark. Well, this is going on the tap. The Tampa Bay rays have been have been trying for twenty twenty-five years to get a ballpark built. They play at Tropicana field in Saint Pete. So horrible ballpark that, you know, their their attendance is routinely the worst in the league somewhat bizarrely. They have one of the best TV contracts in the league. But their attendance is generally pretty poor. They have attempted to build a ballpark in different parts of Tampa. The the providence Saint Pete right now is that Tampa's where the growth there is in the area east of Tampa north Tampa. That's where the growth is. Unfortunately to get the Saint Pete you base give a choice of two bridges. So during rush hour access to Saint Pete from Tampa is essentially it's the worst place you could imagine in the region right ballpark last year. There seemed to be finally at least for the people in Tampa. There seemed to be memento. Adam behind building a ballpark in ebor city, which is to to the eastern part of the city. It's an old old warehouse area. And I I hadn't been paying attention to it at baseball's winter meetings or something happened it collapsed. I don't know what I don't know the exact majority just collapsed. So the winter meetings in baseball where everybody in baseball gathers media general managers owners, it's it's kinda like a swap shop trades or made sometimes free agents or talked about and all that there was a news conference call by Stuart Sternberg with the owner of the race and his president, which if you've got something you wanna float as if you've got a trial balloon you wanna float in baseball. You do it at the winter meetings because everybody who writes talks thinks about baseball is there, right? They held a news conference. You know, blah, blah, blah stadium issue in Tampa. We still have a lease at Tropicana field the twenty twenty four twenty until twenty twenty-seven dot that up. But and this was was was very subtle. And I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been tipped off about this by a raise official the raise owner. Said listen, we're not getting a park built in tap. We do have a lease right now until twenty twenty seven Saint Petersburg prime real estate in terms of building condos mixed business residential area. I mean, it is a it is a gold mine for raising tax. If there's a crappy building city there's a crappy building sitting on it that we're going to be gone from an in in ten years. So what he did what Stuart Sternberg did was he kind of flipped it a bit. And said, here's the thing. Yeah. We could be here twenty twenty seven. But man, if you guys get an offer between now and then for this parcel a land who knows what the economy's going to look like in twenty twenty seven right? Could be better could be worse. So centrally what he said is. Hey, if you guys get a good offer for this. You know, I'd be willing to cut you deal here to to to help you finish this off. Please. Let me go, please. Let me go. So well that's going on, you know, the folks in Montreal again, very quietly quietly, very diligently. Claridge investments is involved in purchasing land in Griffin town part of Montreal. Which is. Near the peel basin. It's it's kind of an area that's undergoing gentrification. So you've got that. Now, you've got a Tampa Bay rays owner. Who knows he's not gonna stay there? Now, you've got people with money in Montreal in a ballpark. You've got a Commissioner who is committed to this one of the things the tappan though as well, as in addition to all that sort of falling in place, one of the things rob Manfred, the Commissioner says look I realized the reality of the situation now is I'm not going to ask you to build a ballpark. And then give you a team he cited Quebec, cities, and example, building an arena. No NHL team. You said not gonna do that. I just need see the plans. I didn't need the shovel in the ground show me the financing show me the plans haven't nailed down. And we'll try to get a team in. Montreal. Stuart Sternberg owns the raise lives in New York. So what kind of happened in the past couple of months? People started to realize well who says Stuart Sternberg has to sell the raise or Montreal has to get an expansion team. What a Stuart Sternberg said moved the race to Montreal. I live in New York. It's not a big flight. Maybe. I wanna be a majority partner. But maybe I want twenty percent. Maybe bell media comes in for twenty percent char or Stephen Bronfman and Mitch Garber have thirty percent each and away we go. So all these things have kind of have fallen in place if you'd asked me for years ago. I would've said there's no chance of baseball returning to much you're on my lifetime. Now, I'd be stunned. If there isn't a major league team in Montreal within the next six or seven years five years might be a little tight, but just sort of planning this thing out of that. I can see baseball back in Montreal in six seven years at the outside. I'll be surprised if it isn't

"As always extraordinarily talented performers receivers, and ours and applause from all who survey what to me seems impossible impossible stunts that they do. It's absolutely incredible. In San Francisco circus, an AT and T park on now through February third San Jose February thirteenth to March twenty fourth. Joining us a spokesman, Stephen Ross, welcome to John Hamill non-nego, Stephen. Good morning. Well, give us a brief history of Cirque du Soleil. Was started in nineteen Eighty-four. So it's been almost statesman thirty four years now it started with a bunch of street performers. Call this miss Naples, just walkers. To amaze de Montreal. ESPN montreal. That's right. And today's thirty Soleil is the one of the most important internet entertainment producing the world with four thousand people what's important to remember, though, is that the first time we set foot in the United States was in nineteen eighty eight in California. So we're selling reunion thirtieth anniversary. San francisco. I was there the American people. I was there for the first one. I'll never forget. It was different. It was European. It was a little European. It was a little of this was very Canadian very very Quebec very Montreal. Very very French. Are you are you one of the performers? I'm the spokesperson. So I wish performed, but no communication. Well required. Very few people do which brings up an interesting thing. A couple of facts how many nationalities are represented by performers in Cirque. So instead you selling we have fifty different nationalities in Volta, which is in San Francisco right now, we have twenty five different. Nationalities. So you can imagine. It's quite a lot of languages. We call it. The United circuit United nation of circus. Oh, there's no question about it. And wait till you hear some of the facts folks because it's incredible. I've done this before. So I don't think I I've done this several times. In fact, every year, I do come to think of it. But I've heard that to meet the needs of the international cast you travel with lots of cooks to prepare home country meals. Is that still true we have a team of four four to the people that score meals. Good day. Imagine people coming from twenty five different countries. They have different things with needs. So we most of the time we go with local providers as much as possible. So it's about a hundred pound of meat the week that we serve our staff will tell you that he's able to tell you what you do anyone what's on your plate. We should imagine someone who does aerial hoop. For example, Orioles. They don't eat the same thing as someone who was gonna work. When I sites. Very heavy things and who were outside all day long. So the discipline. You do was going to affect what you eat. And that's it becomes a big puzzle. But that's where the challenge and the sun is for our our kitchen team because then it becomes an interesting challenge. And then you every day to bring something new to this, Stephen, that's amazing. Now, here's another one that blew my mind when I heard about it, I because many acts are extremely physical. I in fact, all of them are extremely physical. But it's tough on costumes. How are the demands handled for damage done when you're on the road? So we had another team of three fulltime people who work for us with the worker here. We also hire.

He points to online retailers and digital companies that are adopting the model to build their brand and interact with customers in person, they're using that pop up model to sort of test the waters. So I think that the Halloween stores may have invented it. But some of these brands are perfecting, it one company helping them perfect. But now he says Moore are seeing the upside of getting rent from pop up store your changing, the traditional model of long-term is and you replacing it by a space, which is getting booked every day or every week. He says in some cases, the pop renter turns into a permanent tenant. Tom Bowman visited the school and spoke with the children while he was traveling with the US military in the Syrian city of Raka need lash, then. It's not about the skinny. Boy says he's twelve though. We look years younger, he points to a crayon drawing. He created this summer when he arrived at this childcare centre, it's mostly colored and black. There's a tank and aircraft accrued figure of a man with a wispy beard holding an oversized gun. This is United, showed my home. My sister and niece were killed, just like that too missiles, tongue of flame rising from the roof of his home. That of his bed sought decant, hey, Camden. When the house was hit, the smoke was read. Like this earth is known for decades of primary way. Young children communicate and comprehend. Trauma is by drawing pictures. If that's true, these drawings on the wall are one collective, scream, childish, scrawls of beheadings corpses planes dropping bombs. One small boy gestures to the picture. He made his eyes are pinched by burns this school and ten others like it is designed to ease the kids back into something like a normal life, everything from art and music to sports Dini holders, State Department official, who helps oversee the childcare centers in northeast Syria in area controlled by US forces in its Kurdish and Arab allies. The children had been so traumatized, they couldn't even recognize numbers and letters. So we had to work through that before we could actually start educating them. Again, the schools, outer walls are painted with colorful. Toyed bears and balloons. It sits just a block or two from piles of rubble and skeletons of buildings destroyed by ISIS booby traps and American airstrikes. There are about five hundred kids here with space for hundreds more. We're not identifying any of the Syrians for security reasons. Syrian teacher instructor, small classroom, just sit in boys and girls who never went to school during the years of war. She says, children were afraid to be inside any building or even on the roads. They just didn't feel safe because of the bombings and destruction they witnessed. I, they were still carrying memories of the war and they'd lost people close to them. Some had lost their fathers. Some had lost both their parents, Hugh points to two girls in the back of the room. One stares blankly at the floor, thumbing the pages in her book. The other covers her face with her hands, peering through a web of fingers at visitors in the room. They had an obvious case of social isolation in the beginning. She says they didn't talk to anyone at all. Vientam hasn't throughout Yanni. Thankfully they've recovered. They've adopted to the new place and adapted to their new friends in the class, lost both his legs and sits in a wheelchair. Another is thirteen and lost his left hand in two other children were playing with a bomb. When it exploded, it killed both his friends. Dini holder says the schools like this in the area helping these kids are part of a program that caused about thirteen million dollars in US funds, but the money will run out in just four months, very hard for the international community to explain to him the many different ways that they could be involved in the education sector. President Trump cut two hundred million dollars in a what impacted they have in your program. Basically, part of the education programming money was tied up in the money that was so instead of having a full year coming up, I will basically in funding at the end of January holder says, there's hope from other countries who are kicking in aid money. The. Arab Emirates gave fifty million dollars, but prefers the money is spent on projects like water and electricity. Saudi Arabia is providing a hundred million dollars, but it's uncertain whether can be used for the schools. Private donations officials say, can also help fill the gap for one and a half million dollars. Holder says she could renovate one hundred schools for about five million dollars. The care centres could continue for another year. Whatever the fate of these schools, there are signs of hope. Girls in red and white uniforms perform a dance routine on a stage in the boy who lost his hand. In explosion shows a picture. He just drew in his notebook. It's a bouquet of flowers. And that boy who's black crayons, pictured an ISIS fighter in the burning home. The family left a fleet eleven on next to that one is a new and more vibrant drawing of his home. All stability, crown prince, Mohammad bin Salman represents a break from that and his actions have some wondering whether Saudi Arabia may be destabilizing the Gulf region. Here's NPR national security correspondent Greg Mary. The old Saudi Arabia was a place. The United States often turn to in times of turbulence. When oil prices were spiking or political tensions were spiraling out of control. The new Saudi Arabia under crown prince. Mohammad bin Salman is now a key actor and sometimes an instigator in some of the region's most combustible events, Mohammed bin Salman as. Straighted recklessness and impulsiveness in decision making that has been very costly to the kingdom. That's Bruce ridell of the Brookings Institution who keeps a close watch on the kingdom. The crown prince is just thirty three. He rose to prominence three years ago when his father king Salman. Now AJ to became the most recent of seven brothers to take the Saudi throne since then the Saudis have embarked on a war in Yemen. They've blockaded their neighbor Qatar, and now they're under intense scrutiny for the disappearance and apparent death of journalist, Jamal kashogi. I think that the difference between Mohammed bin soman and and his uncles who ruled Saudi Arabia previously is that he might not have a sense of the limits of Saudi power. That's Gregory GAAS, a professor at Texas AM in an expert on Saudi Arabia. He says these episodes raise questions about the crown prince's judgment. He. Doesn't appreciate the the second and third order consequences and risks of some of these actions that he's taken the Warren Yemen where the US supports the Saudis. It's become a military stalemate and humanitarian. Catastrophe, the US Saudi relationship which dates to World War Two has often been bumpy you. Saudi relationship has always been about interested in non values. So says Jon Alterman of the center for strategic and international studies. Those interests include stability in world. Oil markets countering and expansive Iran, and keeping the Gulf comb. US presidents have come to understand by the end of their term that a lot of things in the Middle East and around the world are much easier to do with the Saudis on board and much more difficult if the Saudis are fighting you. This battle with Iran for preeminence in the region, Dr Saudi policy. But before Muhammad, the Saudis rely. Lied more on diplomacy and their financial clout. The crown prince has a more confrontational approach. Says Gregory gauze. He sees a Ron throwing its weight around in the region, and I think he, he says, why can't? Why can't Saudi Arabia do that? Well, I think that that Saudi Arabia hasn't been able to do it successfully. Donald Trump made his first foreign trip as president to Saudi Arabia, and he's a staunch supporter of the kingdom. This may have encouraged the Saudis to be more aggressive, but the international outcry over the disappearance of Jamal kashogi may change the equation says, Bruce ridell. The kashogi affair has now really raised a Pandora's box for the administration. The congress and the American media are not going to let the kashogi fair just go away as Mohammed bin Salman continues to disrupt the status quo. His critics are growing Greg, Mary NPR news, Washington support for NPR. Bear was probably about a foot and a half tall, and his name was Mr. bear. And as an aside, Mr. bear made it with me through like he's still exists. He's in my dad's house somewhere in a closet, and he's not in good shape. He looks like hell because he's been through hell, but I slept with Mr. bear for like, I want to say thirteen years every night that I was home in my own house. Obviously, I didn't take him with me and other people's houses. But this Mr. Barry was a big deal is my point shouts to Mr. bear in respect. Now my aunt was throwing Mr. Barrot me playing catch with me at my mimi's house. It's my mom's mom and I like dove for it because I'm an athlete, even as a three or four year old. I guess it was probably a bad toss. It's probably my aunt's fault. If I had to guess. She's probably listening to this actually in screaming at the podcasts speaker, but there was a copper pot with squared off top and I fucking hit it right on the corner. Right. Like two inches away from my eyeball almost blinded my ass. Blit my fucking face open. I had this gnarly cou is score that I've had ever since that like you can absolutely still see, and I actually dig the scar but and I'm glad I didn't go blind. Probably a terrifying moment for my parents though. So that was I got stitches fix me all up no long term damage, but it was. It was a, you know, a pretty severe injury. The next thing that happened to me a few years later I was at second Baptist church, which is where my mom worked when I was a little kid. She was a personal trainer at the family life center at second Baptist church. Somebody who's listening to this show who knows what I'm talking about brain just exploded. But anyway, they. They used to have a pizza parlor inside the church. We were eating at that parlor or about two and my mom was in line to order and she was like, go grab a table. I think I was six or seven, seven or eight somewhere in there. And I was running to go gravitational when she asked me what kind of topics I wanted. So I turned back to her to yell pepperoni probably. And when I turned back around Iran head fucking I into the corner of the table of a table and right into my forehead, the corner this table split split my head open right at the top. We're right on my hairline basically, which is still in great shape by the way out the hymns. Split me open so bad to the point that I was bleeding everywhere in a cop actually grabbed like, threw me in his cop car through my mom in the back and then drove us to the hospital. Anyway, I'm fine..

"Tech says scoot that guy was cirque du soleil no doubt died doing what he loved not many concert that and that's true he apparently had been practicing this with the other performers for a couple of months and they had only performed at once they only performed once in a show and i think it was like the day before or subtype very very recently this was only the second time they were performing it and he sent something out in social media that it's time to just go for it and he he lost his grip and fell about twenty feet to the ground and lie motionless they've rushed him to the hospital but he died a short time later it's interesting that president trump is talking about the death penalty because today the supreme court passed on a ruling to ban the death penalty nationwide so that means there's there's there's no ban on the death penalty correct todd noski so state states can do it but it it it can't be banned a nationally and i don't want to get into this discussion today will say this for another day i haven't different feelings about the the death penalty and i i just i don't see any information whatsoever that says it's a deterrent now it stops that person who committed the crime from committing the crime again that's for sure but when the president talks about getting tough with drug dealers which we should do talking about the death penalty for for some drug dealers almost suggests that it's it's the message that you're going to die that would keep you from from selling drugs if you want to join us with your comment this afternoon our numbers two six zero one eight seventy area code five oh four to six zero one eight seventy text numbers eight seventy eight seventy.
