"Of all things a prog rock band. I've been waiting till the time comes around. Canadian power trio rush. Kings of album rock radio, beloved by fans of meticulous instrumental chops and readers of guitar player and modern drummer. Wrote the song time Stan still thinking that it might have room for a female vocalist as a counterpoint. Their first choice for that vocal was no kidding, Cyndi Lauper, which would have been interesting. When lauper proved unattainable, they tried the pretenders Chrissy hind, who was also unavailable. They finally found their way to.

"Yeah, oh, you're right. It's a moment. We're in some 80s nostalgia. Obviously, you're not totally out of touch. I'm playing. It makes me wonder though, having gone through this. Do you feel like you hear this synthesizer solo in a different way now? I'm definitely going to. Because well, because now I know that some really smart people that made this had a reason. I think before you explain this to me, I thought that there was no reason. And I'm like, oh, there is a reason. So I have to respect it more. I will say, you know, if I was in charge of the world, I would replace it with the nice, honestly. Okay, what solo what I want? I would do, I think you have to do that. So now that I think about it, it's a sip song. Otherwise, what are you going to call the album? Like, she's less unusual. You're right. You're right. I take it all back. Cindy, I was wrong, forgive me. You can do no wrong. Sam, it has been so much fun, investigating this question for you. It has changed the way that I hear sounds that I had purposely thought of as cheesy. As you were leading to, it has definitely made me miss going to some live performance because I feel like had you seen Cindy live and you would see in this song and you had danced the jig to that solo, you would have been converted long ago. Instead, it took this moment, your friend investigating your question for many months. But it's been an absolute joy to do so. Thank you, sir. This was amazing. I'm like, now I'm going to just send you all of my musical mysteries. Next, can you figure out what happened to latoya and latavia from Destiny's Child? Where'd they go? What do they have to? That's your next mystery. Thanks again to my Friends over at switched on pop for letting me come on to talk about Cindy and my musical malady. Cyndi Lauper got mixed reviews at best on the ABC New Year's Eve special. I guess there was some kind of altercation with one of her assistants wanting to take her scarf off on camera, My my my bag at exchanging map.

"New Year's Eve, my kids I got a 10 year old in a nine year old now and Henry had a birthday. My 10 year old is super into staying up till midnight on New Year's Eve. That's so exciting for me, we go to the we go to the Circle K, and he gets to pick out like three junk foods and a giant Coca Cola. Oh, boy, It's just to stay up all night Long party, So he's got cheese balls and gummy bears and big Coca Cola. It's awesome. It's a basic and just thinking about that makes you wanna puke. I know I just can't get away. He's so excited about it. And his his younger brother, Henry is now nine and the kind of wanted to be into it, But he's not much of a stable ladies go to bed early, get up early sort of guy and doesn't really like junk food, but he kind of played along. You almost made it to midnight, but he made it till according to the midnight when we're rocket watching Dick Clark's Rockin New Year's Eve Dick Clark has been dead for quite some time. On and rocking again. Virtually every aspect of that title is in dispute. Rocking New Year's Eve did appear to be New Year's Eve with Ryan Seacrest, which also featured What's that the most popular band in the world and B T k E T that so that was a serial killer in Wichita BTS. Happily VTs he had the most popular band in the world by far. That came out and did their weird androgynous. Are you a girl or a boy? Are you 40 or 15? The boy band backed right, which is just I don't I don't even know what that is. I don't know what the appeal is or whatever. But that's you know, certain crowd goes crazy for that. And then shortly after that you have these 70 year old Cindy Lop Er and she got the close to midnight slot. Yes. Which is why lining I gotta believe he s Opened for Cyndi Lauper in 2020. I gotta believe that you know, agents work really hard to get that close to midnight slot when the most people are watching course. Yeah, and it's usually somebody really happened was fricking Cyndi Lauper, who had a hit in the early eighties. And she's really old now and she was dancing around really weird, like an old lady reminded me a Robert DeNiro in the Irishman. He's too old actually do the moves he used to do. Cindy Lauper was like that. She's kind of stiff legged and almost fell down once and both. My kids were all cracked out on Coca Cola and junk food or, like, what was this? They were just laughing so hard at this grandma who was stumbling around on stage in front of you know nobody in the streets there. Look, I'm no way just I mean, I've watched Robert plant It's of leads Apple in lately, and he's still making great art. But he's not leaping about the stage and super tight jeans like his 1972. I've seen fat old bluesman on a study stool playing their stuff. It's fine. I got an agent and like, Sean said, Who is this four, though? Well, you wanna call it tuning in that once, both of or either of those right? We got to get the clip where At 1.1 of her assistants says you've got to take off your scarf. You should take off your scarf. She starts yelling. Stop it. I'm on camera with her New Jersey accent or whatever, so unfortunate that her incredible performance was marred by some backstage hostility but again. Whose ideals Ryan Seacrest's deklerk from Beyond the grave. Who made that higher. Really? I want a name. Yeah, I don't know God that was made by kids. Reaction to it was hilarious, though. She says. All this grandma, they kept saying it turns out is true. Yes. Oh,.

"But what I did not know we'd be quoting Cyndi Lauper at six or seven on the West Coast. These goes I'm stuck in the eighties. So I'm all into the that the eighties song but Cyndi Lauper song. I love that song and money does change everything. It is mostly about money, and you're right. If they can save money and not pay out to people that they normally would write a big check for and and you know, That's how Michigan pads it's Ah, a lot of schools pad their win total to start the season dog with two or three cupcakes. Ah, you know and beat him up, and then they go on and then play play against the There are conference opponents. But I don't know. I don't know if we look when you look at the financial part of it is you. Who are you saying? They're hoping that these other schools shake out and collapse? No, I I don't. I don't know. I think that's that's an unintended consequence. Okay? I think the head not intentional. I don't think the intended consequences to save money. But everybody's our companies trying to save money, TV and radio like how can we? How can we trim the margins Because it's already been a bad year, and it's likely to on Ly get worse in terms of schools, right? And what while schools schools are just not built. They're they're built to contain consistently make more money because they spend more money because they have to really know, reinvest in their infrastructure. They carry a Ah, you know, they carry debt with them over all these massive construction projects. And you know they want to keep Getting donations for their endowment. And while people at USA well, like an athletic departments draw from the endowment, that's not how it works. Meanwhile, you're well, you're because just because they don't want to do that it's not that they can't It's just that they don't want to know, know, know, know already because they can't and based upon how how their their their own constitutions air written many schools, there's a limit, if any, that endowment that can go to athletics. Additionally, you have to factor in that while athletic departments are going to be an already are losing money, and they're going to lose more money, So too, is the school is going to the school is going to lose massive amounts of money and the endowments going to shrink. Not just because of the investments and what happens there, but because no one's going to making donations, like all of this stuff, kind of all, it's AH, It's AH, It's like it's like it's like an organism that all symbiotically works together. Right, like the college football is important, not just for the bottom line of the money that makes it all so obviously makes money from the TV and the radio in the rights broadcast, but also those, Aziz said, Cupcake games while you're spending money, the town those college towns make a ton of money on those games, Hotels, restaurants, all the sororities and attorneys welcome back alumni. All the parking spots, everything. The parking tickets, everything in town. Everything makes money in those small college towns based upon those college football games. Additionally, you bring back the alumni. That's when the athletic directors and other school executives come and hit people up for donations, not just for the football program Athletic Department but for the rest of the school like it all does Now would we work together, Right trickles down and it's not isolated. It affects everything. And you're right, even to The guy who was selling the parking spots in town that goes away. That was money say if a person had a Ah, parking lot, and that's how he made his money in during the college football season. That helps fund to pay his mortgage, dawg. You know what I mean? All the course of a year and now did no football games in town, and that money that I always counted on Has gone away. So so, yes, it has affected so many things, And I still think that I'm not convinced I heard Jim Harbaugh. With Michigan trying to say Well, that's not all for we didn't start the Corona and the kids want. Of course, the kids want to play. Jim that that that's obvious If football players that's what they've done their whole lives, But I also think that there's a part off of trying to keep these kids safe and figure out if this is really worth it. That that maybe Doug. There's gotta be. Maybe there's going to be one year without college football because it's just not safe and healthy enough for four people to a part taken, and I know it's devastating. But I think sometimes people when they talk about Tried to get it back. They're selfish reasons. You know, they want to play. They want to get paid. They want things to kind of go on, but But sometimes you got to take a look at the at the bigger picture. And that is, Can you really in good conscience? Tell kids not to come to class on campus, Doug, but but tell him to play football at a school where the student body's not welcome back. Something doesn't sound right. OK, Well, I'm going to disagree with you, but we'll get to that coming. Why? Rob Parker? Doug Gottlieb in for Dan Dan? It's Brett McMurphy is going to join us upcoming next. What does the Big 10 Decision do tow the college football landscape. What about the Big 12 and the SEC? What's the likelihood we have a season? This idea of spring football, I believe has massive massive flaws will get all of that. And take some of your comments on social media as well as maybe a phone call. Like to Rob Parker. I'm Doug got leave. This is the Dan Patrick Show. Whether you're working from home or working on your fitness, you.

Great singers. He's going to open the show and George Carlin, which I found out after we working together the last two years of Georgia's before here's and so I just as a huge fan of George Collin. Always stick with that connection. But he's great. And I love when there's a musician comedian. I love the g get all your bases covered. So it's going to be a great night. Paul some comics prefer to have a comic in front of them that you would prefer to have a singer in front of you. Why what's what's the thought process there? I always questioned comedian, and it it feels like having the same meal twice. Yeah. It's like if his my allergy have your mind, you're going out for steak, and you really want to have a stake in you can't wait you go to this steak, and then because very nice. Stake were on the house. His little hamburger. That's nice. I want to stay so much. I had basically be steak. What I am saying when I see a show I like to highlight the two singers like shuffling up mix it up a little bit nothing. I should be tended said for talking to you. It would be criminal. Did not mention the good news that mad about you is returning to television. Yes. We just opened up a writer's room this week. And we started around. We were you know, we it's been about almost ten years year and a half at least that Helen hunted. I said they asked us when we thought about it. Not really silly. Why would we do that? Then we started talking about it. It actually could be great fun. We had a good reason to tell it. You know, we saw it wasn't an install GIC sort of. Hey, let's go revisit. But rather let's really check in and see what life is like twenty five years in to this marriage with with a kid now gone. It's not the most of your life is behind you instead of in front of you. It's very different story to tell. So we said, yes. And then it took a long time for them to get all their ducks in a row and lineup business wise. I don't know why. But we're are jumping in. And we're gonna help them all done by the end of the year. That's so exciting. Everybody wanted to be Jamie and Paul I'm sorry watching that show. I'll get married someday. It's not really like that actually. House every thirty minutes. We stop talking. That's exactly. Yeah. I at the end of the have our sights with his house. Yeah. It's it's the way. I should I give Paul and Jamie buckman credit for starting a trend. You named your the characters name their baby. Mabel, all of a sudden, it's very in fashion in name your daughter, something that was a popular name from years and years ago. I think you guys were the first ones to do that. Anyway, we can help American people to service working it's working there be any musical guest stars like Yoko Ono Cyndi Lauper. You know, we haven't gotten that far maybe twelve so I don't know how many times we're gonna get to bring in people. We're gonna do short batch of twelve and I don't know if I guess terrifically. Well, we would maybe do other batch, but you know, gone are the days where you have to do twenty four episodes and seven years, and that's lucky, you know, if you're lucky the show goes, well, but that would be hard to do this. It seems to me young person's game. Can I tell you my favorite guests are was of all time. Not just call Reiner Bacall Reiner playing Alan Brady. That was excellent. That was he was a Colorado at that point had told us that he had asked many Thais by many people to come and be on the show, and he didn't want to didn't appeal to the first time. He did it was when we pitched come back as our Brady, which talk about connection with it really was sort of a mind meld of like witnessing so mad about you exist in a world in the same world as a Dick Van Dyke shows, Robin, Laura Pichichi out that doesn't see. But it made all the sense in the world. There's Allen Brady so funny. Someone wants to know if you found a new Murray for the. We will have an open cast exertion to get a new dog. 'cause the original Murray much these dogs. We'll speak to each other. You work with somebody. Panko and I got a little bit for us. He's us. It's been a long time. What about now that all these years have passed? You guys did a story are where Paulin Jamie, even though they were crazy in love with each other. They kind of went their separate ways through story. Very good. Very smart because that was a question we decided yes inside when we did our finale twenty years ago, it was like this week. It was the first week of may nineteen ninety nine. We did a one hour valley where we jumped ahead into the future. Specifically, not only have never be tempted to come back, but we wouldn't even be able to come back, and we were already told the story and the thinking was that a marriage is not easy. And certainly if you're gonna make it all the finish line. You don't get you. Don't get their free of charge. There's a lot of ups and downs. So we wanted to show the vis couple did. Yeah. Absolutely. Was so committed loved each other even a tough spots to where they separated we don't have how long or how seriously, but they just said, you know, enough is enough and then ended up back together because that's how it was meant to be for them. So we had a long discussion has today like where in that arc? But we starting this before they came back or is it after and everybody said nobody's members. I'll everybody remembers that you you remember it was. I cried when they had their issues because like. You know, we took it. We were talking about those seen halfway into the four before the end of the season where they were having trouble getting pregnant, and they had a big break up scene. And it got out of this wasn't even where they separate. But they just talked about it. And they were having trouble getting pregnant and each of them came very close to having an affair. We it was. But it was very earned. You know, we had it wasn't just frivolous. Each feeling Jerry not feeling great about themselves. He was feeling as a man, and she was feeling a woman because they weren't able to have a kid, and they started drifting apart, and we had this time. It said it was an eight eight minutes scene. One shot just on a park bench saying, you know, maybe if we can't get this inspection in this this lack of trust. Maybe I ever climbed that I wrote it. This is going to be good. I was going bad believe we we will welled up every time we shot it people. Tell me to this. They watch that cries. That's a good thing. I'll tell you. I tell you something I probably should this be last. I was here when one of the nicest parts about going out and doing stand up again, which I didn't do it. When mad about you started to I just didn't get out and work two years ago. And now when I go out, I after the show always on the lobby they'll side books. Whatever people have say Hello. And everybody's got a story. Everybody comes over say. Boy, it'll we got married to your eve. So I'm a boy that episode is exactly what happened. And I didn't know any of that. You know, I never quite realized that for the people who watch the show how intensive experience it was what a connection those really really gratifying. You know, so media back then to reach out. So you guys and say feeling this to the house in Hong Paul, but you never. Stuff happens. Whatever Paul Reiser, the great Paul Reiser performing in town this weekend at the north for center for the performing arts. It's an eight o'clock start you want to go to north shore. Senator. Ours ours. Ours leave. Oh, that's the. Guys, come by. Two. Talk to you. Paul reiser. Everybody loves them. Go to north shore, center dot org. Four tickets, and I believe there are still some tickets available. So, you know, the average person spends about a third of their life in their sheets give or take a little bit. So it would seem like a great idea to get the best linens that you possibly can with over thirty five thousand five star reviews raves.

Hi, dan. How are you? How about yourself? All right. Staying warm trying to. Yeah. It's going to be a brutal in the next week. It's supposed to get even colder read around Tuesday Wednesday of next week. It's supposed to get when we get some snow on Monday. So it's winter. Yep. Plans for the weekend. At all celebrating the birthday we. The family yesterday and on Sunday and Monday in it will just be her. And I you know, she shares a birthday with warns. Eva. Oh, really? Yeah. Mourns yvonne's. Actual birthday was yesterday. They played the night before drowsiness mush has played the night before. And they did dedicate nighttime at the switching day. But yeah, so she also shares a birthday with John Belushi. So interesting, she's got some good celebrity sharing birthday. So happy birthday to you. Guys. Have a great time. Thank. In the newsroom is Vic Vaughn high avec morning, sir. What's happening buddy not much? All right. Keeping. Keeping track of the news, and the weather and everything. Yup. Yup. Got it under control got it on lock down here. All right, buddy. What do you got going this weekend? I think well, I know one thing I'm going to be doing is giving a little talk to one of my kids. He has been a little lazy return it in homework the wrestler, but put other than that once once we get past that. Yeah, I got a birth date for Calvin my little nephew. And we're going to see a bunch of the little nieces and nephews this weekend at my mom's place out. The north northwest suburbs. All right. Very cool. Very cool. And you know, what does whether it's not gonna stop anybody from having some fun this weekend just bundle up. That's all cover up your skin. So anyway, we'll get through this. Yeah. Yeah. By the way, Dan, as you know. I'm currently obsessed with the stupidest most ridiculous show on television. Yes. And it's called the mask singer. And I continue to watch it every week. And they're keeping Joel McHale. He's like the special guests now two weeks in a row because he's so funny. I guess like I would keep Michaela. But anyway, it is don't know. The people who watch this show watch it and love it and are apologetic actually like I'm really sorry. I love this show because it is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. So the the the masked a celebrity who sang and got eliminated. And I had I didn't even come close to guessing who it was neither did the panel. It was Margaret show. She was in the poodle outfit. She was in the poodle mask. And and she sang time after time by Cyndi Lauper. You know, with she was on the these elaborate staging things because it's these people are if people don't know what it is. There are a bunch of actual celebrities who are underneath big elaborate masks, they looked like mascots kind of and they sing and you try to figure out who the celebrity is that singing. But when they interview the celebrity, they distort the voice so that you don't, but you have to just by their singing if two guests who who they are so far they've got written. They got rid of a football player that I'm not familiar with. He was on the he's on the Steelers. They got rid of me. Chong was eliminated last week Terry Bradshaw. Speaking to the Steelers Terry Bradshaw was eliminated and then on Wednesday night. It was Margaret show. People are convinced the Donny Osmond, isn't one of the masks. I think Paris Hilton is in one of the masks and they last night 'cause I watch the and I watched it yesterday from Wednesday night. And the last episode they actually like Jenny McCarthy is an idiot. And she's she's on the she's one of the judges, and she Feinberg said, she's anti entertainment. But. But she actually she actually guessed that one of them was like, I think it might be lady Gaga. What are you? What are you talking about lady Gaga who would do this show? Like she needs to do this show. She needs to be on the masks that. Yeah, I think it might be lady Gaga. It's not lady Gaga lady Gaga has nominated for best. Actress for star is born she sold billions of records. She's at the height of her career right now. Probably said, you know, it'd be a good move for you right now. I think you should do the mask singer. I think that might be the next step in your that might be the next step in your in your career is to put a poodle costume on NC. Yeah. I think it might be lady Gaga and Joel McHale goes eats, not lady Gaga. I'm telling you, the show is awesome. It so stupid. So every Thursday morning now, I the first thing I do when I get home is. I watched the mask the mask singer. And I sit on the couch and go why the hell am I watching this? And why do I love it? And then every Friday morning, I come home and watch top chef. And I know that the Friday morning of the finale. Vic Vaughn is going to tell everybody who the winner will go. I'm going to write this down right now. Go ahead. We got a few weeks. There's still you know, we got about. I think we got seven eight weeks left. Remind me I will. I will definitely. Okay. So anyway, if you're watching the mass singer, God bless you. So if you're not you don't know what you're missing, I'm telling you. All right. Let's take let's take a break. And then Stephen Larry from trick shooters shooter social club will join us. They've got a new album out. It's called American experiment. We'll talk all about that in here. A couple of songs from it. And they are in the P G paints green room, and they will be in studio right after this break catch living healthy, Chicago this Saturday at nine AM.
