Nice light easy drinking beer beer. You can sweat out as fast exactly. See my problem is when i go to a mexican food restaurant. I always order marguerite. It's gotta be bits margarita. That i go with instead a beer and i don't know like i associate tequila more stuff like this then necessarily the beer styles a little bit slept on. Probably by me as well yeah. I'm thinking the same thing. Why not tequila flavored mexican lager brain working. Here's here's your quick trivia question for you dial and maybe chat. I don't i don't know The worm at the bottom of the bottle of tequila weird. Where did that come from. Why is it a thing. It's just a novelty thing and it usually was like the first one is i. You know what i should put in there. A worm like who thought that was a good idea why you know well. The worm is the one that lives in the a plant. So it's an a gob eight worm and meskel which is just you know the purest raw form of of that kind of drink just seems to be a perfect fit for. Let's put the worm back in the juice that we made from the plant. Now have you ever eat the worm at the bottom of it to you but yeah see. I don't know i don't. Is it crunchy. No no. it's always slimy swallow. I don't chew it you. Don't i knew somebody who had braces on and rubbed. It was just a marketing gimmick to get stupid american college kids to buy more tequila and you know look there dare you to buy that and drink it. Yeah it's it's never bought it. I didn't follow that marketing. It's like a prize at the bottom of the barrel but it's not prize. It's a nasty worm. Oh you get to have the worm. That's a pri- entered the stories. I mean eat the worm and he's starting to loosen aiding and now i think he. I think he tried some right before you get to. That were made. Your has a different thing. That's the saying this is the same thing so like with absent the green fairy. It's just sort of like a myth associated with okay so like eat the worm and it's the prize at the bottom of the meskel so there you go yeah That's not for me. I'm not a. I'm not big to heal the guy i will tell you. Stop by the shine shop here in greeley. That just opened up on tenth and they had an garvey tequila. And i'd normally. I have to have a lime. If i'm doing tequila and i tried it in it was i didn't have to have a lie and lime nothing. It was phenomenal. And so i highly recommend you guys check it out For any of the those mixed cocktails of for its veteran owned and things like that really cool dude in there. But i just when i find a new spot that you know i'd like to checkout. It's it's pretty cool. And i think we were planning on at breaking news of these guys are here as well. I think we're planning on doing a special show out there at some point this month. It'd be well so we're going to have a cup. We're going to have a bunch going because we got the blues jams coming up that we're going to be associated with. I'm telling them their schedule right now. So we've got to get to a mighty river at some point this month. I don't know if you have a plan or not that we're talking about it thinking about doing something special. Well at least one thing like now that you brought it up at least one thing. I want my kids to know the meaning behind it. The true many. And like i said like when i said that when a when you say oh we're gonna to you not that sometimes like like let's say i was at a bar in there. Were these people like discussing. Wasn't going to my knowledge. It's the mexican independence and our here like to people on another booth like like discussing and everything. I knew the true meaning. But i i don't want go get involved with you're right and you're wrong you especially because of that was wrong. Was the one that was more drunk. Yeah yeah yeah. Yeah but yet. And that's where you need me to go go to the jukebox and put on those those those songs i get people into fighting moods so you're the architect behind all those you know. The conspiracy is an old. Hey you know what this may sound. Funny drought but you know what the truth is that i used to go to a lot of bars. You might not believe. But so reuben will come visit me and i would take him to my local bars and for some reason every time i take and we see a bar fight because he'd always say It's never night is never a good night at a dive. Bar an sec. A brawl. and now. I know why you put the music that would make people fight So what about you old or are you gonna. Are you gonna do anything. Special for single them i i. I'm going to piggyback on on hobby because it's actually kind of. Is you know up. Gaza beers and barbecue it. I don't know if we're in laws or whatever but in either case. And then i'll show it to them and they just say what today's the fifth of may this. I'm going to connect. They like know. My mom live from mexico their grandparents on my wife's side there from april the hip to that idea. They know that the grandparents on both sides our firm many modern. So that's my kind of in those. He's so you know met medical where your grandparents are from where your roots are some of your heritage and your culture. You know this is. This is a significant battle that happen in the eighteen sixties guest. The french some talk talk to them about that and now here in the us because there's a lot of us. Here not chicanos. Mexicans are people from this kind of background. We celebrate that battle as a victory. Oh i i can see my son saying okay. So that's why we're having a barbecue. Yeah about keeping to celebrate a remember. That i'm gonna keep it as simple as that man. It'd be cool old is to have your parents or your swagger us talk to your kids about it since you know since their may gunnels and have them tell their experience or of. It isn't bad dress up as a french. Monks butter royal. The grandma grandpa gaining dominance doesn't happen. Yeah they're reenacting. it's a reenactment. They're not fighting. It's a reenactment leading. he's pretending. I don't say don't say any of the words that he's saying right now words. I mean i think when we started this podcast we started because we wanted to talk about. No some so it's going to be silly united. of course we're having fun and this is not a serious issue but this is something that helps us grow as people as parents and grandparents. Because we're just go bus hanging out talking about stuff. And i think for clarification exactly you know and it's and it's good because probably if i didn't talk to you guys about this l. Just be a nod or wasted opportunity for me not to talk to my kids about the coaches -nificant of might so. So i'm being enriched by the podcast. I guess that's what i'm saying. You're welcome thanks. "You know that's doing a disservice to that holiday or to the remembrance of the soldiers you know To party without knowing what your parting about your parting. You not celebrating or remembering you know so it was just another day to me you know and at work. You know the different jobs i've had people would always come to me. Hey are you going to celebrate it. segal the maya independence day and know depending on on what mood i was in and when they got me on all out either say oh you know it's not it's not the mexican independence day. You know the the sixteenth of september mexican independence day. you know i don't i don't celebrate that because it's not a it's not a holiday people. Don't take the day off in mexico. Like i was telling you about my cousins that i was telling us that they and their he casting good emmanuel myo. You're wrong yeah. Hey the pueblo. All but i ended the okay. I remember studying that in in history but what was that about. I remember the name. Tell me again. You know like my cousins. They i had had to tell them about it. You know it just because it's not that big of a deal you know over there so i mean about it you know so if you think about it all were our people were we kind of created this monster right. If you a body right we we look backwards or we look into history for inspiration right drink some rights movement and then that became popular celebration that morphed into a popular drunk fest so very are screaming all no but also you know i. It falls in may so sorry towards the end of the school year. The teachers are very liberal relaxed. You know it's hurting. Wanted in september where they have other grading and every now. I know why the theory from your teacher makes sense. Yeah at he was a history teacher to as i saw maybe so now now that were grown man with kids in grandchildren. Have y'all had your kind of discussions hobby like your dad told me about the significance of it. Have you know right. Now as you're bringing it on you. I was gonna say that i hear is the difference my kids. They didn't do a little mexican dense like we that we did. You know that that a that that thanks. Yeah no no no. Let let remembering that. Let's see what happens. This my which is what next week or something like that. you know. it's like right around the corner and So i actually. I'm gonna ask my kids to see if they even know what cinco de mayo is. Isn't it funny. How this podcast. We talk about these discussions issues in prompts us as positive. Oh shit maybe we should talk about these. Yeah allow topics right. These topics helps us. Remind us who we are culturally and what we want to pass onto our kid. Yeah and also it also. Sometimes they like man. I'm slacking you know like let like like what's wrong with me. I should like right. When you're asking me i go. I a record co-winner my kids and ask them if they know what cinco de mayo is. They're not going to know. I mean they'll probably say it's a mexican celebration or some. Did you have an part part of it. You know with the school thing hobby. I think part of it is maybe Educational systems at least here in california. Probably more culturally aware and sensitive and probably. Don't have those types of Events at schools anymore because once again you know it's it's not an independence day you know. It's it's a historically significant day but as far as culturally you know it's you know it isn't like fourth of july or something like that you know and And maybe part you know for you because your kids are in in junior high in. Yeah maybe their schools because if they're not public schools they probably don't celebrate if it's a private school at the private school. Yeah so they probably don't celebrate those things and i didn't go to private schools but they probably wouldn't celebrate that you know but like with without on At least here in livermore Or you know livermore dating a single the mile celebration or festivities or anything like that at the school that he went to and the school that he went to was. I don't wanna say predominantly latino but there. There was a large latino community there because we adam enrolled in a in a dual immersion program where he was learning spanish and english. Because you know we wanted to make sure that he he knew he knows. Spanish and english knows how to read it right it and speaking it but But yeah no you know I don't remember that that experience for for him at schools but he does know he doesn't look -nificant because his mom who's may he you know made sure that he knows you know he. He knew and he knows what siegel. The maiyo is and mexican independence. Day isn't all that. And you know i just. You know cooperated on that as well. What about you also. I'm like hobby. I asked that question for the same reason for my own. Kind of thinking was like shoot man. I didn't think about kind of we talked last year about your dealer of metals read. Didn't give any thought to how am. How do i break down to kids. But i need to just like secret a mile and at some point i think i want to break it down a little bit. At least just like they did right. Who said by number thyroid battle as the french so at i think yeah at some point but yeah seven four years old so as much as i can share about know. So that's that's what i'm trying. Yeah and so like even that song single their minds yo lake..

"The bars you know they have the specials and all that stuff you know since like the commodification americanization and cultural appropriation of Of mexican history and irish history. You know Talking about Saint patrick's day but But yeah i mean that's basically what it would it has evolved devolved into from like what you were talking about it all how it was It was a a former love for the finals. Young and burgeoning chicano movement a sense of pride and something to be able to hold onto would dignity and say this is part of our culture and somewhere along the line it becomes Lake i mentioned earlier in just you know a a weekend sponsored by coors you know and you know obviously chicanos. Don't drink cores. Because of what course did teach was back in the in the seventies But you know and we lost the essence of of of the battle you know and the significance of taking back our land. You know because that's what was it was it was a may ghana's indigenous peoples kicking out Europeans you know the colonizers the predators And and really end and re capturing regaining our land our culture our history. Our blood at now. Mike you say growing up you know it's It's just another excuse to get all bello and we don't even know away. We're getting better for. I know right. I mean it you know what a all in all honesty. Alpine will get a twelve pack and barbecue for secretly mile. But what point did you remain a hobby over. Did you guys figured oh shoot. It's not independence day and it's not just a not report you say okay. This is a battle battle. I mean i. I mean i was. I was young when my father told me though the historic meaning behind it. You know because Actually as far as i remember. I always knew what it was. Because when we did those which can kindergarden that we had to do. The little dancing and Put mexican flags all over and like my dad like you know. I mean of course being a mexican and everything. He's like to go to event where there was mexican flags and everything you know And then he well he. He told us so. That's why as far as i remember. I always remember that that that it was la. La la de puebla. Like like i was always is still about that. That notion gumbo solos francis and stuff like that that that they that they came with a big army. There's just a puny little country we're gonna kick their ass easy and it was an easy you know and And so for me. I kind of i always knew it but I knew that a lot of people like sometimes i. I didn't get when people were talking about like you know. Let them have their discussion. You know it's like sometimes. I don't really want to like get in other people's discussions and stuff like that but Yeah luckily i. I had that background knowledge in a force you to get up in this discussion aruba gets political historian on joined the manage to so we're not helping to give political if that's where it takes us. But anyway ruben. What point of age or experience did you feel like both should okay. I've had you're wrong all these years. It's actually it wasn't until my twenties men. Yeah until i started reading about mexican history because once again part of my my elementary experience. Elementary school experience was in in texas. And texas is a very very different world compared to compared to los angeles or california and more specifically los angeles more specifically east los angeles. You know there was. There was nothing at all that we can talk to about anything mexican in texas. You know So very anti mexican state you know and not just like state is in a state of the country but a state of mind as well you know and in west la mile. Metrics over there. You know we didn't have cynical. The mouth celebrations For whatever reasons So you know when. I was in When i was at east los you know those already in high school. So you know we didn't have anything in high school And you know something. I never really bothered to ask. All i knew was from as a cello. I always for me. That was a day to get drunk. Not meet to get drunk but everyone around me was just a day weekend. Celebrate you know celebrating meaning to get drunk. It wasn't until I went to elect you know. And i started. You know took it upon myself to learn about mexican history. In chicanos that that i began to realize. Oh that's that's what it is. Independence day you know I knew it as know being a A battle that we one or that one but he know the significance of it. You know because that wasn't my thing in history wasn't my thing In they when i found out about it. Well it's as always i get pissed off funk is what it's been about man you know it's another form of a press in man always angry. Was he wearing red. Dude you know and and you know and and similar to havi only once. I found out what it was about. You know and. I see people just like saint patrick's day you know exactly saint patrick's as they say it's an excuse to go and get drunk all right so be it. But i stopped participating in that. Because i was now at a different level of understanding in consciousness where i chose not to partake in that. Because.

I guess it's time to celebrate but i guess the question is. What are we salary celebrate. Why are we celebrating. No drink or they're my a weekend sponsored by coors and believe me guys i never drink. Let's get down historical man all remember as little kids in elementary during a performance or yeah bright guy. Hance your experience hobby. I remember that we had to do a little cinco de mayo dance and like you know like did it did it did it did the. Yeah and yeah. I remember and it was just mostly all. We knew that it was a mexican celebration. You know i mean that. That's all that i mean. That's all i news when i was little. You know some people were saying. Oh it's the mexican independence or people were saying the the fourth of july mexico's cinco de mayo. You're like that's what they were saying. You know did you do a gun for play not not You know the. I never did a dances or plays. Make that in In texas they don't celebrate anything mexican. Alamo remember the for wrong reasons. They celebrate a loss with. They don't know that. But i remember growing up You know those commercials for like sequel that my own you know and Parties and fiestas and and for the longest time. I actually thought that cinco de mayo was mexican independence day because obviously we didn't celebrate. You know the sixteenth of september but we would always celebrate the fifth of may so as a kid. Because i didn't know any better and not even bother asking. You know my lead over my mom you know. I always thought that was mexican independence day. I remember when. I went to mexico when i meant. I forgot what happened. Time my cousins something about cinco de mayo and one of my cousins kissing the you know like at key they he. He grew up in mexico and he wasn't even really that much aware. of what. Cinco de maya was. I you guys know why that is well. I mean you guys from commercial purposes while yeah that's the morphine today but so actually from a historical perspective in the one thousand nine hundred sixties civil rights movement that you got from us. Lima here us. Right are people were. Were looking back right at victories looking back at when you know cycles mika right. But you can't movement a slime brown pride and then there was an episode right web la right the french and we fought kick their asses one one battle the model but the french came back in still there still fighting to be done but anyways it became a source of inspiration. Alamo call exactly exactly was one of those wearing. The sixth rights movement was gravitated towards like shit. We always been great. Re come from a history of whipping ass so french step aside and now it's like oppressors. You know dingoes whatever you wanna call it. The ninety six rights movement and you're looking at that seek the miles so he started popularizing. This idea of cinco de mayo living or happening here in the us and then little by little she who catches on coors but night and they make a drink the my right so gets a cultural preparation. Right as i recall ruben. Something like that. Yeah no also a professor. When i was an not Actually a teacher when i was in high school Told us one time that september was too close to the beginning of the year and that it was too like like. Oh you know it. We can't start celebrating so early. in september. you know for the mexican independence but you know by. May you know the students are already and everything like that you know that was his theory or i don't know how much truth there is behind that you know but he's also saying that by may you know it's like that's okay you could. The Second Plague: Murder Hornets
"Welcome to you. Did what now a podcast where we discussed stories in science and tech that. Make us ask exactly that everyone. Thanks for listening on your host. Stephanie Educator Aficionado and Michael Programmer took a good afternoon. Stephanie how are you? I'm fine and we are surviving? How about you the same happy Cinco de Mayo? Time are listening listening to this. It's probably probably already celebrity. Cinco de Mayo having a Margarita. Anyway he's actually what else you got today. How many people are making tacos tonight for dinner? We taco Tuesday in single tomorrow. This is the thing right. Everybody's Yeah I don't do. I've talked to us. I should make tacos anyway. So lots lots going on in the world. I guess I I saw this recent start like before we we hit record. I noticed the story of the tweeted through the Times which all the coronavirus stuff is supposedly ray me seventeen clicks to get logged in. And let's see a but the title is with Crisper a possible quick test for the virus it looks like they're using crisper to test for for carnivores for covert ninety. I noticed something about that. I was looking into that and Yeah I think there's a lot of different applications for using crisper. You can test for different. Antibodies are you. Can you can engineer a a a gene. That will basically glow under simplify. It'll basically glow if it recognizes the One of the antibodies from Corona virus. And so it could be a really simple way to get that test out there and have it be more accurate than maybe what they're dealing with. Now Sarel yes that's exciting. Everybody's YEAH SPURT UP CASPER AT RYAN. Exactly the kind of a bad rap for all of the different weird types of things that is trying to do but it could prove to be very useful in the coming months ahead. Yeah this was. His name was Zang. I guess he's He's at the broad institute in Cambridge Massachusetts. And he's apparently one of the pioneers of crisper technology or whatever he said it up with a pregnancy test and they got like a little violent stuff. You make something. Put The little drop in and reacts and then you dip the paper in two two lines means you you have in nineteen or or. Don't get the two tests confused. Rather what would you rather have at this moment? Which you find out that that your wife is pregnant or that. She has corona virus. Not Sure Enough I. Let's let her have. She's actually having grown admires test in like an hour. Oh okay well. I hope she doesn't have any sentence now. She just works. Used US going to the office in a lab. So they're just they've they've gotten some tests so they're just gonNA have everybody take a test every once in a while acting so. Yeah so what else are we talking about? No more carnivorous onboard board occurred something else out there in the world. There's a the world is fine. No you know as Americans. We always it. Seems like we always have to have something to panic about. If you you look back in the past year comes in a cycle of about every every couple of months. There's a new thing that we must immediately panic about and shut down everything and of course you know in Corona virus head and we really did have to everything and so now America's kind of getting tired of that so Let's move on. Let's introduce a new I something else about Introduce the murder Hornets from Asia. Great Murder Hormone that. Just this is what third play the fourth leg. I'm not up on my Bible. Yeah I know that's kind of what I was thinking. At what point do I need to let lambs above my above my doorway to prevent my starter? I got a robust Saturday. It will repel mortar murder Hornets. I'm sure yeah. So why is everybody concerned about the murder Hornets? Is it really a big deal? Is this just something else that you know. The media is pushing us to distract us from whatever else is really happening. Should we concerns? So what have you heard about murder Hornets? So far I honestly. I've tried not to read it up hundred Hornets. Because I wasn't really looking for more in my life I'm spending so much more time outside now from omb and like normally all you'll be going trip or visit grandparents or we you know indoor soccer whatever it is. We're doing now slow. Go play in the backyard so the kids get actually retired for bedtime. So you're telling me there's more murder Hornets there. Yeah I'm sorry to burst your bubble but now now we've gotta worry about the Asian Murder Hornets so don't get too Scared about it yet. As of right now they're reported sightings are all the way on the other side of year and We started in in Vancouver and now in Washington. There was a beef farmer. He had a nest and back in November. He went to check on his honeybees and discovered that his entire very healthy beehive with completely destroyed. They were healthy the day before then. He went to go check on the next day and basically he started looking at them and all of their little beheads were cut off his head on Teamer Hornets too. Yeah they are murder. Hornets necessarily because they murder humans. All this is this is violence. I don't need to worry about right. Yes well you know you definitely would not enjoy getting stung by a to inch long Hornets. That is not something that you want to have happen to you. Although scientists from the nineteen th century right. I'm not just out there leading. Bees and spiders stigma right. I guarantee you. Some people are out there trying to test it. I think there's a guy on on youtube somewhere. That has already films himself. Getting stung by a murder Hornet. Just see what would happen surprise. It hurts jackass movie this year. Isn't there Jack Ass movie coming out this year? This isn't this isn't related to that right now it might be. It could be a completely. You know publicity stunt for there are no hornets. That's just the jackass movie. Yeah they're murder. Hornets not necessarily because they murder humans but because they murder other bees and so they can take out an entire hive of bees. In just a few hours they They go in and they. Yeah they basically decapitate all of the bees and take over their nest as do they parade around them ca carrying their heads and spikes put them a little little Little twigs and stuff outside of the. Yeah Yeah so they're pretty. They're pretty deadly. Each Hornet can kill one. Be in every fourteen seconds using its powerful. Amanda Bowles to decapitate decapitated its prey. Oh and I guess so. Those beer are these are we. Arming these BS. How we find him back. How are we protecting the goodies for Hornets are pollinating? Hornets are not pollinating. So yeah this is. This could potentially be a really big problem. This is more more concerning than actually getting stung by the B. Is what effect will it have on the honeybees here in the United States who are already struggling to pollinate all of the things that we need? Pollinated your I already. We already had anxiety about the honeybees. We don't even more right. Yeah so yeah. So what are we gonNA do about these honeybees Years so you know there it. These these murder Hornets come from Japan. And so the problem is that whenever you have an invasive species come from one ecosystem into another ecosystem it's not bringing necessarily its natural predators with it

"All at the same time that it's like then that's one before he started getting the The hair plugs. And all that too. So he's got he's got the hair extensions going on and you know for a fact that he's full on bald underneath. You know what I'm saying. It was just like wow but he looked great. He did great for A. You know a campy trashy movie like that. It's Michael Bay for crying out loud. You know Michael Day. I liked him and all the national treasures. I like those movies entertaining. Yeah but that's a different type of action. Adventure usually is in. So that's was also great. Oh another great movie. See what I'm saying. He's done some really great stuff but he's been like back and forth back and forth so anyway definitely common down below guys and let me know what you think Joe Nick Nicholas Cage playing Joe Exotic. What do you guys think? Do you think this is a good casting call or do you think that this is a little bit a little bit out left field. I'll say this. I think it's a really good idea because Joe Exotic is very extreme. Now the other thing though is have we ever seen have we ever seen? Nicholas cage play a character that's gay. This'll be interesting to. I've never seen him play a gay character. Yeah now nothing springs to mind so this'll be interesting to see if he's willing to go to that distance to that to that length especially it's a series so it's going to be interesting it regards to the the the the polygamy that he had the the obviously he had sex multiple partners so it'll be interesting to see what he does with the how he portrays the character but that'll be very interesting. They almost have like the same. They almost do really have the same look. So this is going to be fascinating. There was a time when they were saying like DAX. Shepard who why Why do you know what I'm saying like when when was DAX shepard ever in a good movie? I'm curious no fence the DAX shepard. But I'm saying a lot of you guys are probably going. Who's shepherd exactly what I'm saying? He's married to Kristen Bell. Oh Yeah Her. Yeah Yeah Anyway. Just doesn't make any sense though it don't to me but I'm interested to see what you guys think. Is that a good casting call. Are you excited by seeing this movie or seeing this TV series? That's going to be coming out. I'll tell you I will watch it. I will most definitely watch it and laugh the entire way because as Nicholas Cage. It's Nicholas Cage guys. It's worth it so moving onto the next conversation. Tom Cruise Tom Cruise shooting a movie in space. What in the Hell is going on? Tommy boy speak on it because this is new to me too. Yeah Tom Cruise is teaming up with the rumor is this is from their reporting that. They're hearing the Tom Cruise and Elon. Musk well basically spacex or working with NASA to come up with the first narrative film shot in space. Wow yeah they said it's not going to be a mission impossible. Movie Studio is in the mix at this stage. But they're hearing that SPACEX and Tom Cruise and NASA are working together to make a movie shot in Outer Space for Rio. Like on on some real stuff. Man Who's in for real outer space like the outer outer space. Now this will be history in the making. If this really goes down I'll be straight funky man like that is some. That is some brilliant. If Tom Cruise pulls this off this will be genius and everybody and their Momma is going to want to see this movie if he can actually accomplish this particular goal now. The only person I can think of in the movies. That's crazy enough to do something like this. Is Tom Cruise? You see the top gun movies. You see the top gun movie. That's about to come out. Obviously he's been pushed because of everything corona virus but anyway he's flying. Those fighter jets himself. He's doing most of the stunts himself I think he's doing all the stunts himself like. He's turned into America's Jackie Chan. Real talk right so for him to do this in space. He's the only person I can think. That could really truly pull something like this off and if he does this with Elon. Musk my dear. God that's GonNa be brilliant. That is going to be brilliant. That's all I'm GONNA say I can't eat it adrenaline junkie right. Yes he got a bit like the jets aren't enough. I gotta go space. He's like well. How can I what can I do? What can I do? That's GonNa make it even better. How can I take everything that I've done and go shift into that deeper? Gear into that faster gear. Wait a second I've never I've I've done water. I've done land I've done skies but I've never done space. Hey Elon Musk what I'm saying. Oh hold on excuse me. I'm so busy smoking. This blunt that Joe Rogan made for me. Hold on what what space. That's amazing like that. Let's do that this incredible it. They can actually pull it off good. Of course I mean they shoot some terrible movie in space. It's going to be really disappointing. Well obviously it okay. I better not be a mission impossible movie but I hope it's not a mission impossible movie but at the same time the the the recent mission impossible movie was frigging baller. I loved it. African loved it given the fact that you knew that every single moment every single piece of film. That was in there where there were stunts. Being done that you knew it. Was Tom Cruise doing it. His Damn Self Man. That helicopter stuff man. I was like after that movie. I was like he should get an award just for the stunts that was incredible man. Incredible so if he can do some stuff out in space as long as he's not trying to fly no space machines or whatever you know what I mean. Let the professionals do what they do. You feel me but I would. I would most definitely see that movie be first in line. I'm sure I'm sorry I just. I have such no matter what everybody thinks about.

"I am Angelo Ponzi. Your host here at the Business Growth Cafe and thank you for joining us. It's Cinco de Mayo today. An upset fine for celebrating in we. Americans and those of Mexican heritage are going to head out to their local restaurants. Have some great food and drink. Well maybe not now because we're all sheltering from the Toronto buyers some celebrating today and hopefully people listening to this watching. This will be celebrating as well. Well I don't believe most people understand why they're celebrating. Cinco de Mayo or the fifth of May as a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army's May fifth eighteen sixty two victory over France at the battle of Pueblo during the Franco Mexican war. I had no idea I had to look it up very interesting and well. It's relative relatively minor holiday in Mexico. I understand in the United States is evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and Heritage. Enough said let's get to the drinking today at the cafe. I'm excited have guests on Martinez a native of Mexico and founder of Ito Agabi spirits. Izzo as premium handcrafted all natural scall- produced in Durango based on centuries of distilling tradition guest. On welcome. Thank you thank you appreciate it. Have to be here yeah. I'm excited to have you here so before we get started. Let's take a few minutes and tell the audience about yourself in about the brand handsome. I was born racing. Rangel as you mentioned on an enterpreneur my life and not being here in San Diego for the past fifteen years I kind of decided to I wanNA bring my my tradition And celebration from from my hometown to these Right As you may know is being the process of making for the past five hundred years in Mexico Before Tequila and Been now more than ever at. Miskelly is more popular here in the states and the way to express our culture is bringing while we drink when we celebrate when we you know have finding and when I have like us. Spatial moment I am we have on distillery. We create our own product. We take from harvesting the bottling to the promotion. And it's pretty fun. I enjoyed a lot is every minute and every day of what I do is just for me. Oh absolutely harvest bottle I mean. How long is that process the list? This is taken from from from that We harvest a while ago and in order to make sure that a Gabbay takes between. Eighteen years is quite a process right. I mean when you understand and you see a ball of our product is pretty much in years in the making. And that's pretty amazing When we harvest it takes a whole week to bring up a good side so amount of tonnage Tree process that takes wake and another three three to five days of cooking and another three to five days of in Dacian and then the distillation takes four or five days altogether. You know we can create like home aunt to produce the whole batch the first batch you WANNA call it but remember you have to wait ten years in order two right so so you're harvesting wilder. Gabby and are you. Also planting we replanting. Yes of course we bring him back a little bit but we are not like a farming is bring back to the source and we just let it be on the field. We take care of a little macgyver for two years and then we bring it back to the field to mountains. I mean We don't do like a line of guys that we irrigated and all of that we take care just the first two years and then the wrist in nature will big part of the whole process. Okay all right. That's great so I asked a couple of questions of all my guests before we kinda get into talking about you. What is the best business advice you've ever given and or received if it's different? I think the best missing Bison a concern you have to be passionate about what you do and you have to believe in what you're doing it is hard to especially when you're going to premiere at to start getting doubts about you know. This is the right thing. I'm doing the right way. You'd have to can't believe it even though you wrong. It doesn't matter you have to believe what you're doing then you will fix it right. I mean my dad used to tell me I mean always your best Stephen does honestly share that Up You had to put everything in. Yeah what you do is just. There's no did you spend doing that. No coming back. I mean he's not GonNa be going to go up. I might fix it. Yeah you might but I mean you just wasting time you need to Kinda push it. Push your heart and do the best because down the road. If you date well my best. I did debates on. I could possibly do in that. Yeah that's great advice. I mean you have to be passionate. You're just really do not otherwise you cannot like just you know give these plateau under just be like a machine you know in is no fun. Yeah you're going through the motions right and if as an entrepreneur. If we aren't enjoy what we do it's it's drudgery the questions is like we do. We do it for Free. And most of the time they would say yes right into it. I like it so much that yeah. I don't mind the extra hours no weekend. I mean because enjoyed a lot that day. We need money for the rest. Hopefully we don't have to pay the credit cards on on a bid to you for free. Exactly I'm sure they're not taking the credit card. Companies aren't tanking bottles. I'm hoping that when David Hill maybe not in Thomson so when you think about your business what what what keeps you up at night One of the things that actually I mean. Obviously if he didn't start with the passion and the idea just trying to grow a little bit united starting to put everything together when then more and more people start depending on you right Family as an employee am bureaus and Sometimes I I don't mind fight. Maybe I don't make any need to make enough money to pay them because they they trust you. They put all the trust in going to work for you to work with you and then I wanna get compensated right. I mean and one of the things is that I mean it pushed me to toward harder because I didn't get people depending on your performance and be able to to get back to them and say Away is that the stories in in Durango right and your Anglia's stealing during so how many people there versus how many people here interstates the states. Ross defensive we are doing a high production but erupted between ten or fifteen people in here in San Diego -fornia between ten ten and temple We sometimes ten people temporarily to help us to Brandon Basler's and things like that. We WanNa keep it really lean. You know be more efficient. I myself have had so many hats you know. I mean I do tell them do. The other day I got a rush order appeared in my car and then just waiting delivered right. I mean because he was was needed. And you do whatever you need to do as an entrepreneur. You're absolutely right so my next question then as a business leader in an entrepreneur in you've stated you are an entrepreneur. I'll call you a serial entrepreneur if your life and your journey was a book. What were the title of that Book Be? Oh my God I guess I need to have another seat for that right. I'll have one to the title of my book will be believe it or not. I did it. I guess I could be because I mean you go through so many bumps in the road. It's just kind of like When when you take if you can take yourself out from that picture from the book and say wow yeah it or not I did. That's great I love that. I love that so for my audience. There's I've talked to people before in there's always a question of what is schedule. What is Tequila and people's ad is the same but they're not to take a second for the audience and explain the difference okay Do question the big difference between a unanimous Calvin first of all is a different double agabi right to collaborate use the blue garbage and in the skull. We have around fifty plus different type of a garbage the Miscount second thing Tequila just from wind single region in Mexico's Tequila region in Moscow. You have ninety seven regions that be Competitiveness Cup The third one will be Style of the process of cooking Gabbay in the Tequila. Some of them they do like a pressure cooker steam us. We always cook on under fire. Bid I run out of small bedia on the back You can see how we use these while can fire peop- that we cover with that and then we let it sit for four to days that smoking is comes in profile and that's one of the main difference and also one of the other major difference between him. The scalise like you have so many distilleries. They produce miscalculation from different styles is like wine United Covenant from nap out from Bordeaux from Chile from Salama Still It is not because every wine able connect Nettie from way is soil minerals from from the land will translate to to their Gabbay and the reason is under favors. You know just connected. And it's just I would describe like Tequila being like a one dimension and misconduct moved to dimension type of spirit. Okay Nice now I was reading in your press release in at. I know this from my time working with Tequila. But there's different aecom flavor profiles right. There's Blanco Repa- Sato NATO. And then we have Jovan is saying that right Hoven Hoven mean and I think there's another I think there's five in total. I think I might be missing one in in. So are you releasing so you have now. We're going to talk about that in a second. But are you releasing other profiles on Tequila in? Turn miscount up. We're GONNA somebody in in somebody's cold when you blame to top right so we're going to do another one. That is also indigenous from the region. Scotland Buddy you. And then we're releasing a ripple. Saddle that his two months in. Barrel is a wonderful product. Has that really? I don't know front. He continued because of their lack. The Ember Yeah and is a nice kind of okie flavor on top of this. Not If you connected maybe a whiskey brandy in all those years you will really find interesting also are adding an part of our family of spirits are wonderful Tequila. We're GONNA do Tequila in his disarray particular Turkey because his extra nickel Cristallino means. That goes through a filter process. That will take the color away. It will be clear but it will be age is is is a very interesting product but adapt. Yeah we didn't and we in the making. His Davis Gallon. Yahoo has to be at least twelve months. In the barrels already is is is an ended up residency is resting is getting more complex but data will be part of a family too..

Political Power Player Cecilia Muoz Reminds Us That We Are More Than Ready
"How Did you stumble into advocacy? I was very sure that I was going into what I think of his direct service like that was my thing. I was aiming towards it. I I could picture myself in an office. Like seeing clients of some sort and helping them with the stuff. That's why I volunteered at the legal clinic. When I was in graduate school I found myself a job with archdiocese at Chicago right after graduate school and that was just very sure that that was my path and I ended up until literally got intervened got actually kind of way intervened. It's a very strange story. So I'm I'm working as an organizer for It's called Perez Community Services and the sizes of Chicago and an immigration law passes and because I have been working as a lowly volunteer in a legal clinic in graduate school. I knew a tiny bit about this law and my boss's boss was the guy responsible for building up the legalization operation to help. Undocumented people become legal residents so I was asking him questions just because I was curious about like how you GonNa do this because there was a way that law worked the application period started by law on May Fifth Congress decided to open it on Cinco de Mayo. You know for symbolic reasons and so they had to be ready to start on that date weather. The regulations were ready whether the agency was ready so I had questions for him in this poor man had the cardinal breathing down his neck. Saying we have to do this. Half of the Catholics in Chicago are are Hispanic and this is our moment to show our flock that we are with them and he so he called me into his office and said the Lord sent me a dream and I want you to lead this legalization effort. I was twenty four hours of my first job out of graduate. School did not have illegal immoral. No I've been like a paralegal way in the bowels of this little organization. I'm very good at collating papers. You'll right And I have no management experience at all and I also don't have mentors so like an idiot. I take this job because I cared about what I cared about. What was happening. I don't believe the Lord spoke to Father Ruby. I think he was desperate But I threw myself into it and it was an amazing challenging experience and we crushed it but I learned a lot about myself. I learned a lot about the Catholic church. Some of which I wish I didn't know and I learned I suck at direct service. I mean my program did really well there were. There was a universe of people who qualified under the law in a lot of people who didn't qualify under the law. And the thing that I couldn't do is like go of the people that we had to say no to because they didn't qualify. I lost sleep. I agonized and I realized people who are good at this are able to live with the reality of what they can and can't do and they were able to test themselves often. Get up every morning and do it. I wasn't so I this thing. I thought I was supposed to be good at that. I believed in. I discovered. I wasn't good at it. I wasn't cut out for it. Turns out on an advocate and I'm a structural reform and I just didn't know until I tried to do what I thought I was meant to do and failed and I I tell that story all the time because I think it's important for people to know it's okay to try something discover. It's not what you cut out for it. That's how you one of the ways that you land where you're supposed to let you have this realization. You also realize it requires you to move to Washington. Dc to really do you want. Do I love the fact that part of your resistance to moving. Dc was just that you're introverted and didn't WANNA make new friend turned not be more sympathetic to that but then you end up NCR for two decades when you first get there. Lobbying is the type of loving you. Reduce very much defined by men totally. Yes I was the only woman in the room all the time. And so how did you have to personally adapt to meet that moment? So there is a section. The book called Sharp Elbows and other tools and it refers to the fact. I'm not actually sharp elbows person but there was literally a point at which the group of men that I was working with that were sort of coalition partners we were at congressional markup where they literally mark up a piece of legislation. And when it's over everybody stands up. In the guys stood in a circle they formed a little huddle to like compare notes. And do all the things you do afterwards which are important and I couldn't get in the huddle and I was frustrated. Went back to my boss and complained and he said he who is my height. Said you just gotTa just elbow you weigh-in that's like it's not personal. He said they're not but you're short. You're a woman you're Kinda knew so elbow one of them and say could you let me in here and be fine and I I did. I had to do that the next time. And I only had to do it once But that kind of stuff happened all the time. I was in a board meeting where I was ten years younger than everybody. The only woman the only let the And they're making decisions about board officers and the head of the organization pipes up and says up secretary while. I guess that Cecilia should do that job. And my first thought was oh come on. Are you kidding me so but what I remember about those things from thirty years ago now is that I didn't feel I could I am now I think? Why did I feel like I couldn't do that? I thought the thought that somebody else said. If I were giving advice to my younger self now it would be you can say it. Of course you can say it And to you know give yourself the confidence to recognize that I like. I didn't have a voice in my head saying you. This is a group working on immigration. And you're the only Hispanic person in this room. A vet gives you standing. You can either say I'm the only Latin and that gives me twice as much room to say what I need to say or the only one here so I have no cover. And that's what makes us nervous exactly and over and over again from that point all the way through my timer. The White House. It's not just the I might not have cover. It's also the and I don't WanNa be the gadfly that is always pushing everybody so much that the next time I when my mouth? They're all gonna just roll their eyes and not listen. That's the other thing that I feel like my you know. My radar is always going for because hall point of being in those places to be effective and so I also feel like I was aware of not overstating my case so as not to get to the place where nobody.
