"O'neil hit three seventeen with twenty four and one sixteen personally the stat. Line favors O'Neill but I like Ken. Griffey in this matchup I just. He played a heck of a right field offensively hitting three thirty six Paulo. Neil three seventeen. O.`Neil more of a power guy griffey more of an on base guy at four one advantage. Griffey so where's that put a so? We got the designated hitter because there was one used in the world series. That gentleman was Dan. Driessen to forty seven with seven and forty four. And then you had Darrell Strawberry. Who had to forty seven with twenty four and fifty seven so maybe a slight advantage to the New York Yankees there really a bit of a toss up as neither one of them ultimately was very very good but breaking it down here? We got one two three four in favor of the keys and then five or six in favor of the Cincinnati reds five. And a half whatever you do. And they're on that last one toss up so slight advantage. Cincinnati reds in regards to the and the offense. Let's see moving now to the rotation. How would things line up in the rotation? You'd have Gary Nolan. Pat Zachary Fred Norman. In Dan goal it for the Cincinnati reds. Those would be the four starters used in a best to seven and then obviously Nolan Zachary norm going six and seven on the New York Yankee side. You gotTa Andy Pettitte David Wells David Cone in Orlando Hernandez better known as El Duke for the New York Yankees. I think this is advantage Yankees Just looking at the statistics. So the pitching staff Andy. Pettitte two hundred plus innings. He did this year so this was not one of his best years in the regular season. David Wells three four nine David cone three five five L. Duke gave the lowest the bunch at three thirteen so the names and the careers ultimately played better than the year did on paper for the pitching staff because from the red side of things. Nolan was three four six. Era Zachary was two seven four. Norman three Oh nine and then goal at three zero zero so on paper things line up to be advantage reds but knowing what we know about each person's career knowing how in the post season things typically played out for the Yankees. I'm going slight advantage. New York Yankees in regards to the rotation and the top four. It's closer than you would think as a millennial again reading these names. No one every one of them for the Yankees and none of them for the reds. But break it down the reds. They're hanging around more than we think. Transitioning over to the bullpen. We have the closer Mariano Rivera. A one nine one year array of course first ballot all famer unanimous all of famer closer New York Yankees but he swallowed up by Romero. Men does who had a three to five year array and then you have Jeff Neal Nelson with a three seven nine. Those are the top three bullpen arms for the Yankees for the Cincinnati reds. We had rawly Eastwick two. Oh nine as the Closer Pedro barbone a three three five. Era and then manny ceremeony though had a two oh sixty ra so almost a toss up there out of the bullpen. Marian Rivera gotta give the Yankees the slight edge knowing what we know now obviously the future of his career. The next ten fifteen twenty years continued to be a solid solid career beyond solid. It was the best career by any relief. Pitcher we've ever seen so you gotta go advantage Yankees there but that's where you continue to look at some of the fundamentals and some of the background in regards to baseball. The non flashing is looking back at the squad's the Yankees had won gold glove winner. This year reds had four so defensively the reds have the clear advantage in regards to balls in play and airs and potential for things like that offensively. We discussed it. Maybe six to four reds advantage. Well when you include the designated hitter the reds had an opie s of over one twenty nine the Yankees as good as their offense was was one sixteen so advantage for the reds offensively advantage for the reds defensively and then the pitching is advantage Yankees. Well over the course is seven games. I think this would be a long drawn out series pettit and wells. Who would have home field? Let's go seventy six reds would have home field advantage? I think they would have the better regular season record than the ninety eight Yankees the Yankees were dealing with the Oh four socks and the seventy orioles. The reds didn't really have a tough competition in the central. So that means the first two home games pettit and wells versus Nolan Zakariya Split. There you go back to New York you split there you come back. Nolan wins at home. Wells wins at home. And then you're going game seven with Norman and Gullit versus Coenen Hernandez and the bullpens. Rivera comes out. He gives you some options but eastwick bone. That's a little bit deeper than Mendosa. So if cones not dealing duquet leaves a couple up in the zone you would have to in Dozo who gets hit around and I think the nineteen seventy six reds are the best team in the history of Major League Baseball. I think the reds win in seven games. I've certainly seen arguments for the Yankees but as I was doing research is I was breaking down position by position. I think the defense comes into play here. I think the reds offense would put the ball in play wooden. Strike out a ton so would put pressure on the Yankees defense and their defense not having the amount of gold glove winners at the reds do would make a couple of different airs. A couple of key mistakes lead to some honor earned runs which could be the difference ultimately over the course of seven games where the reds pitching is. Just good enough to to get the deal done but Joe Morgan. Pete Rose Johnny Bench. Ken Griffey senior. It's just a loaded ballclub. The big red machine is something that I would love to learn more about. That's a teaser. "It is here everything that the last month has been leading up to the middle of the show segments three and four. We've been going through the best of the best. We started from the team level. Then we went to the divisional level. Then we went to the playoffs and here we are in the world series. Sit is the nineteen seventy six reds representing the National League in the Nineteen Ninety Eight Yankees representing the American League. It is the big red machine versus the Yankees Dynasty of the late nineties. Santa I thought the best way to break this down. I've kind of been going game by game in regards to who would start. Who would play? But I wanted to look at a positional match up here between the reds and the Yankees. And how do they break down? How to first baseman compare second baseman ultimately go through the rotation and the bullpen. So we can discuss who. Who would win a series in regards to these two teams? So let's jump right into it here. At first base going around horn the reds run out. Tony Perez. He hits to sixty that year. Nineteen home runs ninety. Rbi's at first base the Yankees they had Tino Martinez at twenty eight and one. Twenty three hitting two eighty so an advantage there to the New York Yankees and Tino Martinez right off the bat when it comes to first base Tony Perez had a heck of a career. Don't get me wrong. Really Good Ball player. But in regards to these specific matchups. He's GonNa fall just short. Let's see next up. Second Baseman. Joe Morgan he hit three twenty with twenty seven and one eleven going over to Chuck knob block for the Yankees to sixty five seventeen. Sixty four advantage Joe Morgan and the Cincinnati reds. So we got one to one match up there in the lineup. Pete rose at third base. He'll obviously get the nod. He hit three twenty three only ten homers and sixty three. Rbi's over Scott Brosius who had three hundred one thousand nine hundred ninety eight. But it's Pete Rose it's advantage reds next up. We got the shortstop Dave concepcion to eighty one nine and sixty nine for the reds in Derek. Jeeter number two for the Yankees Hidden. Three twenty four with Nineteen eighty-four advantage New York Yankees. Derek Jeeter were tied up again at two in regards to the the lineup catching here Johnny Bench for the reds. He hit two thirty four. This year was sixteen and seventy four but johnny bench in his prime arguably one of the best catchers if not the best catcher of all time matching up against Posada who to sixty eight with seventeen dinger's this year. You gotta go advantage. Johnny Bench numbers are comparable. Possibly favor Posada the individual and the type of player. He is Johnny Bench advantage. Cincinnati reds. Go into left field. George Foster hit three zero six twenty nine in one twenty-one for the Cincinnati reds strong year that one outlast Chad Curtis Suid to forty three with ten fifty six so another advantage for the Cincinnati reds to take the overall league going to Centerfield Cesar Gear. Amino for the reds here three. Oh seven not a power guy a little bit more of a speed..

"Listening in. It is Monday may eighteenth. We are one week from Memorial Day out there as we continue this. Stay in home. Quarantine continuing to flatten the curve. And hopefully get back to baseball as soon as possible in regards to baseball. We got a lot to talk about here. Today we're going to start out the show talking about the memo that was sent from the owners to the players More and more details are becoming available based on the return to play proposal that is being floated around out. There were then going to discuss the best of the best. The Best Team in Major League Baseball History will be crowned today. We're GONNA do the world series breakdown the playoffs and then do the world series. Discuss some continued ramifications monetarily based on Major League Baseball moving forward. And then we're going to wrap up the show talking about documentaries that. I would like to see what the Michael Jordan the last dance documentary coming to its conclusion on Sunday the seventeenth. I thought to myself what other documentaries what I wanNA see out there. What else would I be looking to watch in regards to baseball in learning more about? So let's jump right in the top of the show here talking about the memo their reports from the athletic. Spn Some of the details that are continuing to become available about the safety protocol. We're actually going to talk about safety and The players and not just money. We'll get into that a little bit more during the fifth segment here but actually conversation starting to happen around how they're going to do this. What's the protocol look like? Where are they at moving forward? And it was very very detailed looking at some of this memo. According to reports out there and we've talked about it in the past but one of the most important aspects is going to be testing and the availability to test for these players once again major league baseball as well as every professionally out there as worried about the optics of taking away testing from the general public or healthcare workers who are having difficulty getting tested. And then they're going to be doing ten thousand plus tests a week. It just doesn't look good right now for where we're at as a country and that's a ton of tests if a person shows any any type of symptoms. I they're going to be tested and let's just continue down the list here and a lot more is going to jump out as eye-popping for you out there but no high. Fives no fist-bump. Snow Hugs Snow celebrating. So even you guys watching the K B o out there the Korean league Taiwan leg. They're still high fives and fist pump. And after home runs will none of that will be taken place here in Major League Baseball. There's GonNa be no spitting no sunflower seeds. Nothing like that coming out of your mouth no engagement in regards to the players. And the coaches such as if there's a guy on second base snow going over and talking to them the third base coaches and allowed to go up to the player when he's on third base or even the first base coach probably just hand over the batting gloves. That's about it but no conversation that leads me to believe mound visits are not going to be a thing. That was not reported anywhere but if the third base coach can't talk to the runner at third base. I don't see why the pitching coach would be allowed to go out there and talk to the pitcher and discuss a plan of attack moving forward so no engagement between players and coaches. Here's one for you but there will be a new baseball thrown into play in any event in which multiple people touch the ball and that's beyond the pitcher and Catcher so base it to left field ground ball to shortstop over the first base. Whatever it is anytime a ball is put into play. They're going to get a new baseball out there. So yeah it's going to be a ton of turnover and then also there's going to be no throwing it around the diamond Pitcher strikes out a batter catcher third short to second back to third around the horn. We'll none of that's going to be going on. So it's GonNa be a weird optic to be watching a baseball game strikeout. It and then just see the catcher. Lob The ball back to the pitcher everybody kind of walk around okay one out. It's just yeah you know first base. He goes over to short second third back to the pitcher none of that inbetween every out. So it's going to be a little bit of less pretty sport that we'll be watching out there but no throwing it around the empires going to wear gloves as well as face masks. I believe but the memo also suggests to the players that no post-game showers. There's going to be no post game buffet. Basically it's going to be a prepackaged meal that will be able to take with them and enjoy back at the hotel. They're not allowed to take ridesharing. Services Uber or taxis been with a lot of players WHO AUBURN TO AND FROM. Games said that will not be allowed anymore. They'll have to be on the team bus but instead of only two team bus opportunities early and late there's going to be upwards of six different times in which the buses will be leaving the hotels to accommodate all the different players and to try to maintain as much social distancing as possible in regards to the personnel on the field. That the conversation we've had here about you're talking rosters essential personnel. The amount of people that will be allowed into the ballpark while there will be a tiered breakdown system one through five with tears. One into being allowed to be at the ballpark on game days and involved in the situation by the calculation of Major League Baseball and I guess working with the ownership that wasn't detail but that's only my assumption that looks to be about one hundred individuals per team will be ranked on that tier one and tier two basis. So you're looking at upwards of two hundred people at the Ballpark plus local cable announcers media so two hundred and fifty three hundred individuals at the ballpark but non one of these shows. And that's a big deal when it comes to Major League baseball on what they what they need to do. Moving forward because we've heard about the bubble everybody being Arizona then Arizona and Florida Arizona Florida and Texas and those just continue to go by the wayside due to the amount of money that it would cost it. Just they need to be in their local stadiums due to the local revenue and local. Tv contracts that they have but it's just exponentially more dangerous and allows a ton more individuals to be involved as well as you have the state of California who's basically said we're not going to allow professional sports until we figure this thing out has come out and said hey come on down. We'll we'll take you a Florida. Hey you're allowed to do at California's the opposite. They're saying wait a minute. And you got five professional teams in the State of California. So if you have to relocate all five of those teams is each one of them go into Arizona are they. Are they all going to the Greater Phoenix area? Where we talked about this spring training complexes in for facilities and things like that or are you spreading them out throughout the west and kind of putting them in Minor League ballparks AAA stadiums depending on capacity and availability for the media and things like that. It's just going to be a wild wild next couple of weeks because as we're looking at it here may eighteenth. Were about three to four weeks away from that June tenth mark where they're trying to get individuals and pitchers and catchers to report to point L. For for that to be the case. A lot of this is going to have to be ironed out in the next couple of weeks. It's going to be done by the end of the month here to allow everybody to kind of understand what the situation is and what they're looking at moving forward but continuing through the memo here players will be taking their temperatures multiple times a day coming up in the next segment. We'll do a little bit of a run through as to what the life of a minor league baseball player may look like during this. They'll need to be wearing masks everywhere including during workouts if they're in congested areas whether it's throwing hitting weightlifting they're going to have masks available no eating out on the road at restaurants you'll have to eat at the hotel or take the leftovers from the stadium home with you but it's just a lot of detailed information and I think it's a good thing I think Major League Baseball. This is a conversation that should have been happening last week before. The money conversation dominated the media. Because this is what everybody's worried about and this is what Blake snails talking about. This is what all the players are talking about that. The risk is on the players and not the owners and that led to the money conversation. But everybody's still asks. Money doesn't matter if you can't safely put a product out there. They're going to have to continue to work with. Local governments state governors here in Philadelphia Philadelphia County and the surrounding counties are still in the red phase of a green yellow red reopen stage Just due to the number of new cases the amount of the virus per capita things along those lines and it's going to be close to see of July would be back to to where they could do that and if Philadelphia's still in the yellow can they put on professional sports as a one off. It's just a lot of conversation. Dr Fao she's going to have to be involved. Federal government local governments testing all of the above. It's going to be a wild couple of weeks here so we're GONNA have a lot to talk about which is good news at the GS. Mc Baseball podcast. But that wrap up the first segment here. Like I said touching on the memo that was released. We're going to go into a little bit more detail upcoming here in the second segment go through a day in the life continued to just think out loud in regards to if this can even be a possibility because yes people are optimistic within the industry with talking to sources but it is very very cautious optimism because everybody knows as we open up is they're going to be a second wave or we're going to have to shut back down again be back at square one. Nobody really knows but certainly stay. Tuned out there because as more information becomes available. We'll certainly going to share it out there with you guys listeners. MLB Allows Each Team To Decide Its Ticket Refund Policy
"Off did you have plans to attend I don't know a Reds cardinals game any other major league game this year so far at least while you may be owed a refund or well there's a catch major league baseball's not allowing teams to offer refunds to fans for regular season games the games were previously listed as postpone instead of cancelled resulting in no refunds for ticket buyers but this is the catch the league is not again is not requiring teams to refund your money and each team can do so or not on their own at their discretion teams can begin announcing plans today which is exactly what the St Louis cardinals have done they planned to announce or we're gonna do it this week to refund for their games Major League Baseball game giving their clearance the cards had thirteen home games scheduled with another six early in may said to be pushed back Major League Baseball the players union and the member clubs are still brainstorming ideas for how to resume the season if possible no official word from the Cincinnati Reds yet or at least one that I've been able to come

"But when somebody comes to you at the tag if the groundhog goes the second baseman and you're not there yet and he steps towards you to make attack now you have three feet on your side to try to get around him. If you can't do that you'll be out of the baseline. Do you think umpires. You're okay with an electronic strike zone. It seems more so that it's it sooner rather than later. I know you talked to a lot of the the UMPIRES for baseball rules. Academy Dot Com. What do you think their thoughts on on that particular situation here and I thought there was a time when they were not okay with the review. Place reluctantly said okay. We'll review home runs foul fair. Abbott reviewing basically everything never. Yes it used to be a black bark when you make a call out of seal and it would be overturned fires realize that you know it is what it is. They're having a slow the standard. I'm trying to make a on real time. Just my only by eyesight. I'm not a barest anymore. So I think the same thing what happened with the robotic strike down as well. I don't know if the technology is there yet. I think there's long as empire steel that there's going to be a home plate umpire and they can still stay employed. We're GONNA be okay with. Yeah I also like the idea them. Addressing the crowd this year and obviously. We're not seeing that yet. But on these reviewable place at least explaining to the fan base because at times you could have multiple different reviews the dictate if you want to challenge and other place so it's very important to at least explain that to the The viewing audience. Yeah and I think the empires little worried about that because not all of them agree public speaker. It's not easy to is for instance football when the NFL has their referee. Comedy gets on camera turns his microphone on he explains what he's the one guy out of that crew that gets talk umpires though they shift every night so it may not be only you know the the the the whole crew the crew chief does this might be somebody else who gets Mike them and they're worried that they may not be the best public speaker. They love a couple of words. It comes out wrong. All of a sudden goes viral begging but I think if people just Kinda give them break break religious if they're trying to do the best they can That they are very well versed in the reason. And I've got no almost all the empires and I can tell you. They take a lot of pride at what they do. The same way the players do they want to be invisible and they certainly don't want to be. The reason team wins or loses. Because of a bad call. So it'll be interesting but I think for the fans sake it'll be better whether you're in the in the stands or a washing your on TV we're GONNA get explanations from the empire's this year that we've never had before final question. Baseball RULES ACADEMY DOT COM. So we don't have games going on right now. What are you? What are you trying to do with your site to make sure that fans are still engaged? Well tell you. I've come up with a program to enter and and I've we've had a couple of live calves. That are so far we call it asks the rules guy a couple of different people experts. We've covered some video stuff and break it down and so on and if you were real rules guy you like that kind of stuff. I'M GONNA take it one step further. We're going to have a rules. Challenge little game show. We're going to start with announcer versus announcer. Happy to report to everybody. In Saint Louis It. Dan mcglaughlin will be representing the cardinals ugly. And you know who we're GONNA pick you up against Lenny Casper of the cubs or maybe Brian Anderson. Maybe Thom Brennaman But it will be Dan McLaughlin say versus Thom Brennaman. And we'll throw out. You know five rules questions. I'm pilot. Error is being arbiter will have a little fun going back and forth. Nobody gets embarrassed but everybody learns a little bit about. The rules has some funding process. I love it baseball. Rules Academy Dot Com Chris. Thanks for your time I appreciate it. Thank you could talk.

"To and I think this could have been a pretty good year for him. Hopefully we'll still get the summer. Yeah absolutely Chris. Welch has been working on a website that defines the rules of the game. And as we know there's so many quirky oddities in things that happened in the game of baseball. Why did you get so involved with the site and tell us about the site? The name of it where people can go. But why did you start doing this? Well I did it and the name of the site. Dan is very simple. It's Baseball Rules Academy baseball rules. Academy Dot Com. I did it as a broadcaster because I thought as a player I played ten years five in the major leagues five hundred bigly in the minor leagues. But I always thought I knew the rules just by being around the right group books time at time. I thought I was one of those guys who was a little bit more knowledgeable about rules in my teammates until I got the TV booth and then it was a quirky rules related play on the field and I look around and like Holy Moses will happen there and we go to break and I'm supposed to have the answer sixty seconds where we come back right and I would look to the rule book and I realized I couldn't find anything. I decided right then and there make a database to attach slang words to the rulebook so like a battered drops. Battling a ball. What happens ripe it so I began to develop a database not realize when I started getting into it man. This baseball rulebook is about as complicated as any rule book out there. So secretary longtime after seven or eight years. Now we finally have come out with our second version of the rules website During peak of a regular major league season. We're getting to five thousand people today on the site. It's always free to look up any rule we've got rules at high school level college level. The League you triple lesson Olympics and of course major league level so you can look up any rule you just by typing in some some some slang words or even a player's name or something like that We've got an extensive database there But there's also a premium membership level that you know if you WanNa take advantage of all the videos we have. We have close to three hundred teaching videos. We have probably three hundred special case. Reports of of interpretive plays that have happened in the major leagues. And how empires look at things. So if you're if you're serious coach or serious playing or an aspiring empire. I mean it's the place to go because you can take away the put in your pocket and call up any rule. Anytime BASEBALL RULES ACADEMY DOT COM. GimMe a situation in baseball. That people interpret wrong all the time but yet you see it on a nightly basis in major league baseball well the first one that comes to mind for me is one that we saw last year during the world series. It was game number six any number seven when trae Turner Look Round bottle on the third base side of the pitcher's mound. He ran down to first base. Now trae turn is a right handed hitter so directly roof and his right hand batter spock's to first base is in fair territory. He's running down the line. The pitcher picks the ball up throws it and the ball gets to second baseman. Who's covering who's curiel at the same time that the runner does and There was interference called and and everybody just went crazy. You know you can't do this in a world series. I'm the endless. Had IT wrong? Trae turn it didn't understand what he was doing. All it took Joe Torre and a post game meeting with the press to explain the rule and this is one of the most commonly misunderstood rules at every different level Amateur Baseball High School Baseball College all the way up to the big leagues and That's one that it's called the runners lane the forty five foot lane violation and It was a perfect call by the empire and crew in that world series. And that's one that comes to my mind right away that people just don't know but once they realize that its role makes them a better player. Fan Yeah define that then so you have the runners lane in the first base lane. You know where people say well. He's got to be between the two white lines. It's not necessarily the case. Is it no you? Don't you know if you go to a big league game? You look at the first base line little line that starts halfway forty five feet from first base forty five feet from home plate and then it gives you a little three foot lane that is in foul territory when a runner is not forced to run in that lane however if he's not running in that lane and he interferes with the receiving throw then you could be charged for interference. And that's what happened to try. Turner. There's no rule because if it's a ground ball the second baseman there's no way that you're gonNA get in the way of the throat then there's no reason for you to be in that lane however on balls that are hit right in front of home plate maybe a bunch. Maybe a little binder squeaker that the catcher comes out and field. He's got a photo first base if that runner is in fair territory than he could be cutting off the throwing lane for the fielder receiving the throat presumably the first base. And if he is that's what an empire should call runners interference in that. That's the case. The ball is dead. The runners ordered for space and a lot of people. Don't now what happens you know? How would I see high school baseball? Dan Is UMPIRES. Don't call this. Because when they do coaches go beserk they go crazy. They can't believe it. It's a lot easier. Sometimes that make the no call than it is to make the right call but it's not teaching your players to find the game. How about a ground ball to a second baseman with a run I? How much distance should the runner give? Because you know you always hear it you have to allow him to make the play and then you hear about the tag. Is he out of a lane? Well where is the lane? How does that all work on some of those kind of plays well? There's no lane between first and second base that there's but there's a right of way that goes on into base. Pats and I think that's one thing that you're referring to anytime that a fielder is fielding a batted ball. He's got the right away. The runner has to clear out of the way. You can't run by him and touch it so close to him the empire would deem it interference because not necessary. You can't run by an yell at them. Say Hey. Alex Rodriguez did when he was playing for the right. But what what you can do is anticipate what's happening If your first run first base you see a Ground Ball. The second baseman. There's no play being made on you as far as tag place. You know the big circle around that fielder and not be out of the baseline so he would force him to rather than tag. You have to go to second base to start a double play but the one thing you do not want to do of course is to run into a fielder when he's feeling the ball and then how much you get three feet correct. So he's trying to do a tag double play. Make the make the ground ball make the play in his glove tag. The runner throw to first. But that runner. He's only got three feet one way or another correct. Yeah and this is where it gets kinda funny and I think that when you start seeing videos and that's where a website like line. It really comes in handy because you can visually there. The runner has no base path. Until there's a play being made on him. So for instance. If I'm taking a lead from first base and a throw over to first base and I'm caught off the back I can start running out towards the right field if I want because where I established my own running lane so as soon as Sunday tries to make a tag on me I now have to have it. Running base path and that path would be direct line between where the tag is tempted to be made on B. and the next base. So it's not. It's not an exact geometric line from first base second base third base. It's where the runner is. The tag is being made. That's when you establish your baseline and three feet you're talking about is three feet on either side of that line has six feet.

"Are putting in long hours around the clock to best serve our community so the next time you're in schmucks tell them thanks and that you appreciate them let them know how much we appreciate their efforts because we will all get through this together. One of my favorite people in the business of Baseball Chris Welch former Major League pitcher and now longtime analyst with the Cincinnati reds. He also runs a website. That will not only teach you about the rules. But bring you in. It's interactive is well. Chris is always I miss CNN. It's great talking to you but Hopefully we'll see each other in person fairly soon. How you doing? I'm doing great Danny. You know we were. We were scheduled to to meet up on opening day in Cincinnati. The parade the cardinals and everything else. It's it's one of the big match ups that I always love on the reds played cardinals because I get a couple of teams that I really like and get the hang around us so Thanks for having me on today. You got misplaced golf with the on opening day and I really miss seeing what this rivalry have been like in twenty twenty and maybe we'll still. We'll have that chance. But what were your expectations for the reds coming into the season? Wow very high expectations you know the ransack thank The Front office says took a bucket thereafter and said Hey. We don't think that we're going to have a better starting pitching rotation in the next few years than we do right here in two thousand so the winner of Two Thousand Nineteen Two thousand twenty one. They decided to go for a lot of money. More than one hundred and sixty million dollars in free agents They made some trades. They decided to bolster their offense. A little bit. Bring in guys like Mike Nicasio to to get already pretty decent team over the edge and I think that was part of it then. I think the other part of that. They see the window of Joey votto being a high quality caliber possibly MVP type player beginning to close enclosed quickly. So you want also take advantage of that so I think everybody in. Cincinnati had great expectations for this Auckland. What did that line of look like Especially towards the tail into spring. When you're playing your regulars and you're seeing Mustafa's Kosta Janos Suarez veto some of the others. I know there's some injuries mixed in there. But you didn't have the full complement. But what was it looking like as you're heading towards That Opening Day. Matchup with the cardinals. You know the interesting part of the lineup is at the very top for me. Because res- went. They signed their first ever Japanese. Free agent Akiyama who's left handed hitter not a big power guy but he was always very good on base percentage player over Japan and I think that that the reds thought his skill set would play pretty well as rates in the same way. It'd probably platoon little bit. Maybe with a young player name. Nick Zell Dick. You gotTa look at him. Last year. He came into camp injured with a shoulder into that. You know he should be ready to go right now so. I think that that would be the top end of the lineup. Joey bottle would probably be in the number two spot. And then from there it would be this learning Mustafa's past the however. David Bell wanted to play the lefty righty matchups and I think the good thing for the Red Sox fans standpoint is that they've got some firepower. They would have some threats in that lineup as far as power hitters. All the way down to the you know. Probably the number seven spot in the eight spot Freddie Galvez. Who's going to take over shortstop on an everyday basis the guy that switch hitter you can expect fifteen or twenty out of him so. I think that there was a lot of excitement to go along with good pitching that they were going to see some homeroom ball set to what would rotation look like a you know. When you think about some of the the big names that you have coming back and guys that really Kinda reclaim their careers in Cincinnati. I thought you're pitching was going to be really improved this year. You know the pitching is going to be improved because you have veteran status pitchers who are now reaching their peak age wise. These guys are thirty five years old. They're twenty nine twenty eight twenty seven one and one a. whether it's sunny gray or or Trevor Bauer no Trevor Bauer. I'm a steal. You know so you know. Casino was was the at the start opening day starter last year. Trevor Trevor Bowers on board obviously sunny grey had he got some cy young award boats and so I think those top three or guys that they really think going to be They would keep the red some have any kind of losing streaks which is always a real problem on ballclub doesn't Excel Wade. Miley was signed as a free agent. left hair first time at a. Red Square takes him. That is very exciting. And he kinda you go one through one through five in that rotation and now you're looking at is the some of the guys who were in the rotation last year the year before our Tom Alley for instance pitch pretty well. Times LAST YEAR. For the reds. Probably looking at going to triple a long time for that kind of depth that they came into spring training. You know looking to cut pitchers off their roster rather than at pitchers to the rotation. How I'd would it have this year? And hopefully we'll we'll find out but to not see Marty Brennaman in the radio booth in a Cincinnati reds game. How how odd would that have been Chris? I think even more odd for you would be not to see him in the media dining room because a lot of people don't know this. I think the best forty events in my day sitting with having because this Guy Holds Court. He has great stage presence. He loves you and gets on you all the time. Get BILLIONAIRE IN. Turn a little bit you know. Sometimes they hurt. But that's the beauty of it though. It is the beauty of it and the guys completely unhinged out what he's not on the air when he's the air is one of the best officials ever caused a terrific reds fans are going to really. Miss Him. I think. Because it's you know little by little the fabric of the game is changing and when you lose icons like Marty Brennan Menendez in the Radio Boots. You know you just don't have you. Don't have the comfort a turning the radio on and hearing that that old leather shoes that fits so well kind of voice things move on certain late but they're they're certainly going to be a big void. I want to get to your site here in just a moment but a final question about the reds David Bell and his long history with his family with the reds and the city of Cincinnati. What would it mean on a personal level David Bell to win in Cincinnati and to do it with the reds? What what do you think that would mean to him and for the city and the fan base? I think it would mean everything for him. Obviously I mean he's always been a guy even going back to the days when Dusty Baker was managing. Jesse told me one time he goes. You know who's going to succeed me as manager David Bell that time David Bell is managing the double eighteen for the reds. In the meantime he had moved on came to the bench coach. The cardinals he. He's well respected his father. Buddy Bell is in the Reds Front Office document. Everything plagued the front office operative coach and so on So the Bell family very well entrenched Cincinnati. It would be a lot. I mean Cincinnati's allow like Saint Louis. You really proud of your own when they do something fun and great and I think that that's how they would appreciate it bill. The one thing that I would recommend. You didn't ask this question but I I think the one thing David Bell you learn as a manager is you have to sometimes follow your own instincts a little more than you think you do Everybody can manage with the stat sheet. Anybody can manage now with all the analytics that the science apartments and the data departments are giving to the manager. But I WANNA see him. Take that one step forward where he begins to manage people a an and situations in putting guys situation or they can succeed by using his gut feel a little bit because he's got a great sense of baseball where he knows the game. He's got a great sense of being leader.

Pirates, Reds await suspensions for latest brawl
"Way two major league teams at British don't care for each other very much probably won't patch things up anytime soon ABC's what Johnson tells us about what happened at their game last night a massive brawl breaking out between bitter rivals the Cincinnati Reds in Pittsburgh Pirates throwing haymakers we still fight starting after the pirates pitch too close to a Reds better later in the game appears to defend his teammate engaging in a heated discussion on the mount that's when things escalated to the sincere is coming from the pirates it's dug out shouting toward the mound and gear it takes off and now chaos ensues but just when things seem to be quieting down Reds player Yasiel who had just been traded gets in the middle of the few held back by other players it's the second time this year these two teams have turned the game into a boxing match is this this time around eighteen members rejected including two coaches after being kicked out the man who started the fight apologizing no I was angry you know today it wasn't it wasn't about baseball second team mates and and you know pirates won the game in Cincinnati eleven to four there will be significant suspensions
Winners and losers of the 2019 MLB trade deadline
"We'll talk a little bit more about what happened with the trade last night so I'm too teams in the Cincinnati Reds and the the New York Mets who are not really in contention in their respective divisions either the the Cincinnati Reds a little bit better off I think in terms of whether or not they think they can make a push towards the playoffs now they're in fourth place eight games out of their division with both the brewers and the cubs sitting right in front of them of course are in the center the got the cardinals up there as well so three teams between them in the top right he Pittsburgh Pirates who were team that was in the mix and Josh fell on an absolute tear at the beginning of the season I had I had sort of put them back into contention made them feel like a maybe the pirates were involved that was the one division baseball we looked up and down you said I don't know who's gonna win this thing clearly the cubs are a favorite we got five teams here could come out and do some damage you take a look at the the wild card standings now the Reds not looking so hot there six and a half games out but they do have one of the best rotations in all of baseball specifically in all of the National League now they could be doing something here and they've got this they've got this general manager Nick crawled not Nick Kroll not the comedian not that the dude from from the fantasy football shows that show called blanking on the name of that show it we came here if you can remember the name of that show that was a fun one the on assets was it was like the it might be just pop on Intel to me did the league the league dude phenomenal show the league I blanked on management off there for a couple years Nick Kroll of course rocks in on the league Nick Kroll the general manager of the Cincinnati Reds thank you and I'll be back bright arsenic crawl was promoted from the president of baseball lobster like the admin assistant to the general manager a couple years back for the ranch it ever since he's taking over as GM of the Reds he's been competitive and I think that's all you can ask for from a general manager number last offseason when nobody was making trades nobody was signing players and he was out here we want to do one for mac camp yes you'll pull weeds Alex would he was out here saying we're going to be a competitive team went out to get Sonny gray from the New York Yankees so this is a guy who's been aggressive now I'm liking that because two of the players that were traded in two of the top line pitchers in Marcus Stroman and then introvert our that were treated because they both have a year of team control beyond this year they've set themselves up now to try to be competitive this offseason and be competitive in the next year and the Reds well we've got a deficiency in offense they were not going to get anything for Yasiel per week he was a free agent the end of this year he was gonna leave more than likely again I'll see what I said when they traded for him yes simply doesn't scream Cincinnati to me he's not a guy why I look and I think man that died that day both with the Cincinnati Reds role about now barely like plan there any like fighting for because if you miss this last night we've got plenty of audio for you on the other side the Reds in the pirates got into a brawl and this was in a a match Muncie Madison Bumgarner I'm gonna bark at you is around the bases type stuff all this was an actual brawl and the the irony in all this is the brawl goes down like within two or three minutes of us finding out the yes yep week has been moved from the Cincinnati Reds to the Cleveland Indians after not familiar with what the trade is the went down Trevor Bauer of the Indians one of their front line starters how the Indians by the way also feel like air and they're right in the middle of their division known as well sit behind the the minister twins but Cleveland Indians right now are two games up in at number one wild card spot if you go when you look at the division they still got a chance to go and win their division three back to the Minnesota Twins so they traded one of their best pitcher Jim Trevor Bauer with again a year of team control beyond this season but they feel like they're getting Danny Salazar back they also feel like they're getting Corey Kluber back who have been throwing on the side cells are may be activated as early as later this week so Indians feel like they've got reinforcements they also filled two major holes to major deficiencies in their line up and that's that they went out they got friend know ray is from the the of the San Diego Padres to was rumors that poppers were looking to move either him or hunter Renfroe I think if you look around for was more of a a better corner outfielder and you've got a talent friend arrays who's really a designated hitter I so he's I mean he's got a slot right into a DH spot there in Cleveland and the Indians also make a cross state trade the three team deal that sends Yasiel Puig now are to the to the Cleveland Indians so it is I think I won this deal you get friend rants redid young power hitting designated hitter who you're gonna put your line it probably for the next decade or so you would hope you got pulley gal who's got playoff experience Tuesday he fighter who's the guy who gets under other teams getting he's been plants a pretty damn good baseball of late and you give up Trevor Bauer Trevor Bauer now goes to the Cincinnati Reds sort of a weird deal there the pod reason have given up login what login Allen was a back in young starter for them and they give up friend raises we mention the Cincinnati Reds though this is a peculiar one they give up their number one prospect in their organization now he had a down season is in Taylor Trammell but they do believe this guy projects to be a major leader in the next couple years I don't think he's played beyond double eight people on the tax line already I too and I'd say in my head hurt trying to figure out what the hell the potters are thinking with that trade I'll tell you what I think the Padres are thinking with that trade I think the thinking they're not done they know was sent to guard this offseason may still be a trade piece that the that the New York Mets are looking to move maybe they'll be looking to move Marcus Stroman there will be moves made this offseason but now the Padres which are already pretty stacked minor league system have set themselves up to go out making other moves and out and bring some pieces in that will help them be a competitive team I'm all about teams were not totally in the mix yet who are not totally competitive yet setting themselves up for future seasons and I think that's what we're seeing with the Padres a little bit more clearly than what we see with both the Reds and the Mets the Reds and the Mets in acquiring the two front line starters that were available that we knew were available have kind of thrown this whole buyer seller thing

"Cincinnati Reds this guy. The giants fans kickin themselves a little bit just because I mean guy who gets traded who's in in single A ends up in the bigs with another team in his successful, you probably bumped about. But this guy's been dominant. So far this year. Yeah. I like it when I blame complicated stats. Here. Give us a complicated stats, Mark. Yeah. So if you like hell effective pitches for picture, you can look at something like batting average again or her friends again. But that doesn't really tell you the full story. There is a we're going to put the name on the side for a second. I'm just going to tell you what it does this cat every time. You throw a pitch. Whatever pitch. It is best ball curve changeup slider. You get you either. Get point. Positive you get a strike or you get an out or you lose point or walking the guy hitting the guy throwing a ball or giving up a pick. Now, the amount of gain or alluded is on. Help or hurt. The team have a chance at scoring a run. The called run value. And you always point for each pitch over the course of the and beliefs. Feeder right now has more point country run value than any other pitcher in baseball. Well, that's indicative of a really effective pitch and a pitch that the guy knows because he's using it a lot anti owned the giants with it. Not only to the own the giants with one PM the giants twice in the last thirty PM wave of change that is one shy of the most in a game the fear here is sixteen and one of the pitchers who had sixteen is Louis SEO. Did it in the last cert? Unreal. Well, we've seen him other than Posey taking him out for the three run Homer.

"And if they added a few more pieces because I think the would trade in that in that whole package it honestly helped the team in a made the lineup complete in it made the starting pitching to be like, okay. You know, what if they got one more decent starter? They could throw in something with Ron arc will Castillo. That's I've got into if they get it into. And you look at what fears did over in Oakland deal imagine fears on this team right now, if you could get a fierce type guy to with the recent war in the middle there like a GIO Gonzalez type of guy just someone like that knocking to blow your socks off not a mad on trade for him. But I mean, they could do it. And I wouldn't be surprised they came out of the gate hot with the lineup and just with United at the beginning of the year. The. Teran's take a little bit. But good teams don't wait up. You look at guys that played longer than the year. Look at the Yankees as injuries the Red Sox. They're gonna be coming off a World Series. Do they kinda slug? Do they kinda come sluggish? The astros. Do they come out hot out of the gates steel division? Anyway, who cares? Right. So you think about that for National League is well, I dunno. I think this team could do something. What if I were them? I would try and buy some pieces more because your lineup set. And they have he's is like an laziest in would that can help you right now. Let's think about a real quick though. All right. So let's say the reds are trying to compete for a wildcard. 'cause they're definitely I think if they're competing. They're gonna wanna try to get a wild car. Hundreds of have the ale. Least you have the Phillies you have the Braves you have the Mets and you have the nationals four teams competing for one spot in our the reds better than any of those teams. If let's say one of them wins the division and the other three are behind are they better than. Him. Oh as of right now. No, no show. Okay. So let's go to the nationally west. Now, you look at the dodgers. You have the d backs. You have the Padres the giants. The giants are in flux like the reds young has yet. So let's say, for example, the dodgers went because they're not better than the dodgers. The dodgers went another division. Crown are they better teams behind? You know, I think they earn the same. Yeah. Arizona too big step down. That's what I was just saying. I think they're in the same areas. The Diamondbacks are right now work. I think Colorado's been he's got back. I think Colorado's better. But that we're saying where Cincinnati is right now magic, they're just add somebody and is. Who can they add though right now, or at least in the next month or two that would change them. So. For winpeak. You know, we ju- we talked about in our dodgers podcast. Like, man, they could really they could trade jock Petersen que- camp in would in a big package and go get a young stomach JT real Nudo never thought they are asking do it. That's like a video game trade, and I know where the reds came. And they said we'll take Kemp week. And Alex would just take Homer Bailey and some other stuff and they were like, oh, okay heater downs. That's great jeeter. Joe Cy right? Exactly. And but they have the but just like the rest of their functions. Nancy how many guys are going to be open two or three years? They'll like, listen, take some who cares. And they satirically added it, and if they can hold off another trade or free agent signing like a Dallas kaikal. That's what I was about say Dallas, or do you think if they bring in clinical, and then they bring in a smaller piece like a James shields to throw winning now. All of a sudden, you're looking at kaikal, you're looking at would run arc. Castillo in like a James shields. Throw a bunch of innings as long as all these guys into team control named Finnegan named Molly named SIMS..
