"Everybody's weekend is going well and getting ready for a couple of good days of racing around the country of course Churchill Santa Anita Belmont all going on right now. But. We are focused at Golden Gate fields where it is closing weekend at the track by the bay. The featured event, the seventh race, seventy five thousand dollars. Alcatraz Mile on the turf and I. Think the one of the puzzles of this racist that there's not a ton of turf form now we obviously know that synthetic turf is not the most difficult transformation to make, but the morning line favorite, so the two horses that morning and favorites to the two at the most turf experience governance on the outside is three to one second choice for Jonathan. Wong and we don't have to explain. Jonathan wins a tons of races at Golden Gate fields and This one's coming off. A wire-to-wire score on the grass seems that it's best if it's right up on the lead I. I mean the Times. where it was not it did not go very well, so and then the other horse. That's the actual favorite is Ken. Tyrrell, the number five for Richard Mandella who ships up, and he'll send a few up golden gate fields every so often in this one one of them who was sprinting on the grass, sanity, those five and a half furlong sprint that was way way back which we know is not the recipe for success going five and a half at Santa Anita, prior to that had gone a mile at Santa Anita and ran a pretty good race for beating length and a quarter behind KP. all-systems-go, and you know some decent types, but. To me, I don't I don't know that the the form is all that much there to warrant such big favoritism, because a lot of the horses with synthetic racing experience, a better nick, who of course won the Golden Nugget and the gold rush two of the top two year old races at Golden Gate. Fields they. They went down to southern. California they wanted to try know deeper waters against breads. Breads down in so cal It went okay, not great, but gets back to what I think is the sources preferred surface you know the pace battle is potential detriment to trip, nick, but you know even the three a journey to freedom, the number one Zimba Warrior, like these horses. You know they. They're showing pretty decent form that I don't think. Is that far behind these these top? Top two Indian peak, the number seven last time for Quin Howie good second against optional eighty types down at Santa. Anita comes back This horse was third in the El Camino. Real Derby earlier this year behind as coast so I thought there was plenty of ways to try to beat. The favorites I. Don't think it sets up. The best for governance is going to have heat upfront. Upfront and I don't know that Ken. Tyrrell is all that much better than these ones I. Think I think a lot of that. Low morning. Line is because of the connections, Juan, Hernandez and Richard Mandell and while they certainly merit support I. Don't think they're that much better than the rest of the field so I was I was thinking that was a good race to go against the two logical. The eight race on the card we move forward. It's a forty thousand dollar claiming event for the Phillies at a mile, and there's some good runners here. Many be has never be enough. Who came over from? Europe ran third at this level in the first star Reggie, Miller the number two I'm really excited to see this one is a emerald downs based stakes winner, actually one the. Emerald staff a couple of years ago, went up to hastings in one steak. The steak last year old, and she was not informed at all last year and then makes her comeback this year. twenty-five claimer at Golden Gate and winds pretty solidly so I don't know if it was just the class relief if it was the break what it was, but In two thousand nineteen was just not going her way, but obviously back and form a little bit I. thought maybe a little bit interesting. This race actually has a few folks. I know that our owners in in this race Darren Paul, who owns the four blaze beauty, longtime friend of mine from the Seattle area and placing beauty won the the got steam many many years ago, and has made one hundred, fifty, six, thousand Darren, but the favourite Kaffee la. I think that. Andy! Mathis could have a pretty decent day at Golden. Gate fields in this one makes a ton of sense. It's a that. He claimed last time out four forty Didn't get the lead. Which is what this horse wants and still ran onto finished second secondhand. This horse gets beat a fair bit I mean not a not a wind machine, but has done at least as of recently I mean a lot of wins early on, and so I thought worth maybe looking for someone else and I m. maybe my emerald bias is showing here, but the number eight northwest factors fifteen one David Israel's one of the guys that sits in our little group, the eighth poet Emerald downs, some certainly room for David and. This horse was a stakes winner. At Emerald one. The got steamed back in twenty eighteen. Was a a fringe stakes player. In the three year, old steaks last year, Emerald went down to Phoenix had a couple of good wins against non stakes, company tried stakes company and got beat up a little bit so. GETS BACK OUT OF STAKES COMPANY. This is certainly not an easy race, but This for me at fifteen, one on her best day is not that far behind everybody so I thought maybe a very interesting price in in what's pretty competitive race state bread maiden specials for the ninth race on the card and. Five. furlongs on the turf is the a situation which is really interesting, because there is a big full field here, you got twelve runners, and you have one that is run on the grass, and some of these sources made a start s- The number. Five carcase has ran on the grass, but down at Santa Anita. Turf sprinting only one so there's actually two that have run on grass The only one that's sprinted is the number eleven Malachi Moxie. Who's also eligible the also eligible in here the eleven and twelve would both make a ton of sense if they Ryan that said both were working at Santa Anita earlier this week, and so if they've. Got Under the as you have to wonder if they're even at or going to Golden Gate Fields I. Don't think they WANNA ship up there. Just a scratch. If nobody comes out, so I would be surprised if either one makes an appearance but. It's kind of tricky though race because you just don't. They're not turf sprinters, and so you got to try to figure out WHO's GonNa. Make the leap forward I. Think the number and I bow day. She's you know. That was a very promising debut with a good wide kicking rally. You know I never liked her for printers that come from too far behind. Certainly they get up and win sometimes, but there's not really a ton of speed on display in this race for a five furlong turf race, so to me the the. In, the puzzle was okay well. Who's going to get the lead? And and I would obviously upgrade them and it kind of led me to the outside runner Auburn streak who was on the lead before fading going six furlongs. and to me, this is a big thing against open maiden special way to Golden Gate, not state bread, and so this one draws outside. There's not a lot of their speed of course some of the other debut. Or horses only ran. One time could show improved speed this time out and certainly they're going to be sending hard, but from the outside if this one can clear. Could be super dangerous I mean had the lead into the stretch a big price last time out you know, got past and finish six, but that was going six, and that was against open, maiden special weight, and it was on the synthetic so. Twenty two one morning line on Auburn streak. If if we get it, I mean I'm all for trying. Those are the kind of those kind of twenty two ones I want ones that have really haven't done anything bad. I mean her or his debut rather was fine. showed speed and you know has a couple of new things going on a little set of class drop outside post position as opposed to being drawn down inside. I think there's a lot of reasons to lights on. You probably won't get twenty two one but I think you'll still get a price so auburn street to me very very interesting in the ninth race, the Tenth Race on the program. At Golden Gate Fields me switch my program page. Six Furlong Sprint and twelve, thousand,.

"So. You know and and and again to stick with Chad for a minute and I'm not sticking up the guy because we're friendly. Everybody off I was a rabbit. Thanks ran third in the Beverly Day. So. What. The. Couple of entry the angst over rabbit or not just blows me away like. Rita form figure it out. I have no problem with entering a horse with the idea of it being on the front end. Maybe it helps behind him or her in the case of bullets raina him or not, but. The horse belongs in graded stakes I. Mean I would say of any rabbit. And, even shake the bank for better talk. Now is a great at stakes winner. May remember when he ran them in the Fort Lauderdale or the Appleton, one of the races at Gulfstream I needed for my eyeballs. He got beat like a half a head. It was so sickening, but you know it's funny. I. I'm glad you bring a bullet train because you never hear. You hear that Frankel was the greatest thing to ever walk on a racetrack. You never hear the point that eight of his ten start he left that. What is three-quarters of big brother to do the dirty work for? You ever hear that. Why. Do you only hear that about Chad? Of Annoying, already. Really annoying when Lucas was doing this for thirty five years before Chad round came along. Yeah I, I have no issue with. I mean Sam every horse if you want but. I just feel like. You'RE GONNA run half the field, and that's the wagering entry. I I just? I could not disagree with you more. That's what makes the world go around. What makes it the greatest game in the world? When we got going on over at my friend? A down week, just the one grade one but church rolling along so have selections for that and. Make sure everyone knows workout reports. A man Bruno is is one of the few the proud allowed at Churchill downs, so definitely live workout reports there and his two year old racing continues the chug along. That'll definitely be a good thing to they'll yourself, too? Yeah, percent dot com slash churchill, Churchill stuff and free PCP still going strong as well on meet long alley. We'll We'll have some good stuff for Belmont next week though Ritchie and coming back and selections, and all that and the gym. I said Back to work tomorrow redburn radio three to six. Hide the fact that I could say the full name of the show now since we're all doing some business together it. I like it yeah. Yeah, so what? So how bullish. You'll probably salivate getting to beat a couple. BAFFERT's with his law. But how are you willing to go with your? Your pocketbook now I was.

"Berna the backstretch with you for the next couple of hours and happy to have all of you tuning in across North America on Sirius to nineteen. Xm Channel Two. Oh one on our affiliates in Lexington Louisville across the country and those listening digitally. And you're doing that. A horse racing radio dot net while some welcome news to begin. Today's show and I know that many of us have been anxiously waiting to hear these words since early. March racetracks across the country are beginning to reopen. And not just in this country would bind CEO. Jim Lawson announced this week that he is hoping for a return to racing. In early June Churchill downs Santa Anita and Golden Gate all getting back to racing this past week or in the case of Churchill this weekend and this past week we saw charlestown resume racing. Their schedule began after nearly two months of racing hiatus and the result was a new track record for the largest non charlestown classic day handle in track history. Four point. Three million dollars was wagered over the course of the nine race program that represents the fifth largest handle in the tracks near eighty seven year history spectacular charlestown vice president of racing and sports operations. Eric Zimny was quoted as saying that there was unquestionably a heightened morale at our property. Tonight which is a very welcomed sight during such a difficult time. Perfect way to put it. And that's going to be the result at many tracks which are now reopening not necessarily the lofty wagering numbers. Although we have seen these numbers be strong throughout the pandemic is racing has pretty much been the only show in town when it comes to sporting events but the immeasurable boost in morale to those employed by the race tracks and the horsemen who will now have additional spots to run their horses and make money. That shouldn't be overlooked. That is huge and this past Wednesday. I spent an hour visiting trainer. Amira Shockley on our trainer talk show and you might say who you probably should because Amira has yet to saddle a horse. She worked for Gary Contessa as his assistant for about ten years. And she we gary retiring. She has now taken over training of many of Gary's horses but as I said she's yet to saddle a horse because she is based in New York and as we know. There is no racing at Belmont Park. At this time I think most people anticipating we could see racing in New York in early June. But even that isn't a guarantee at this point in the game so Amira isn't able to earn an income to support her business through purse money. Which means that she is being forced to survive solely on the day rate that she charges for those seventeen horses. It's hard enough to get your business ground when you're a new trainer but try doing it without a place to run your horses. And that's the situation facing so many trainers in areas like New York where we don't have racing yet. Churchill downs that numbers it first of all the cards at Churchill and Santa Anita. This weekend are great. They are spectacular and a lot of that has to do with the fact that so many people have been Jonesing for an opportunity to get their horses into these races and now we have that opportunity. Then Huffman the racing secretary. Churchill has done a fantastic job. I talked to him on the phone earlier this week and I congratulated him on the programs that he's been able to put together and in typical. Humble Ben Hoffman fashion. He said well it helps when you're the only show in town and it does and I asked Amira during the interview with her about the way you can go back and here that entire trainer talk show on our website at horse racing radio dot net the full hour visit. She was outstanding But I asked her the question. I said listen white. Why don't you take your horses in go someplace else? Likes Churchill where you can have an opportunity to run those horses and she pointed out the fact that it's hard to get into these other tracks right now you can't it's it's not. It's not like we're accustomed to seeing in racing where you can just ship your horse in here. Ship your horse in there and run and then shipped back out. This is a different world right now. It would be too difficult to try to get into those other tracks and and quite honestly she probably couldn't so she's playing a waiting. Game Blake Bensaid. It's easy birds helps. When you're the only in town it's good to see Churchill as the show in town here in the bluegrass. I know everybody across the country and certainly here in the Commonwealth excited to see. Churchill back in action. They're going to be highlighted that Saturday program. Today's program highlighted this afternoon by the return of Champion. Monoploy girl and this is cool. She makes her first start. Since winning. The two thousand eighteen breeders cup distaff at Churchill downs. And we know how brilliant she was hoping she can return to that same level of brilliance as she gets started again here on May sixteen but a year and a half later. Michael Dub the owner amount of boy girl is going to be with me at eight thirty five eastern time looking forward to that visit hill. Talk about what these past months have been like this past more than a trying to get her back to the races. So we'll talk to Michael Dobbin. Eight thirty five Darren Rogers the director communications at Churchill. Downs will be with me at nine o'clock eastern time Mike Willman director publicity at Santa. Anita will have a preview of their opening weekend and what we can expect over the remainder of the meek. Keep in mind with both Churchill Santa Anita any of the tracks that are opening now that missed weeks and months of running. That means that they're steak schedules. Everything is going to change. It'll be different than we're used to seeing. But I'll talk to Darren and Mike Willman about that In their in their segments this is also supposed to be preakness stakes day. We'll have an announcement later today on NBC as to the new date for this year's preakness but obviously is not happening this afternoon. Scott Wycoff is with our affiliate. Wbal in Baltimore. He's going to be with me at nine. Twenty looking forward to that visit to because Scott has been around the preakness for a very very long time. He's been covering it for be a AL and he'll have a chance to share some of his favourite preakness memories one of my favorites. That immediately came to mind as getting ready for the show was A FLEET ALEX and scrappy. T remember that unexpected confrontation at the top of the stretch. Were a fleet. Alex almost bit while you did. They pretty much went to his knees and was able to recover and still draw off. That's a moment will look back on when I got out of the program at Nine Twenty. So many great moments in it's sad not to be there the preakness stakes was our second national radio broadcast. Check that it was our third. We did the Belmont stakes in two thousand seven as we were just getting the network off the ground came back. Got The rights to the Breeders Cup later that year and then in two thousand eight was able to start broadcasting the preakness stakes. We've been doing that ever since same with the Breeders Cup and pretty much the Belmont stakes do. I think we missed one year in there but yeah it's a special special day for me personally because of what it represents but I know it's special to a lot of people in hopefully will have the opportunity to relive that experience again Before too long but for now were in a holding pattern. We'll find out when the new date for the preakness will be coming up later today. Other things reopening not just racetracks many states starting to open their doors again. Which means that. We are doing things a bit differently. We're doing it. In limited capacities that applies to restaurants here in the bluegrass and as everybody knows who listens to this program. One of my all time. Favorite restaurants is Tony's of Lexington. Tony Ritchie the owner of Tony's is going to be with me coming up at our first commercial break at eight fifteen eastern time. And he's going to talk about opening their doors again on May twenty second. He'll also talk about what these past couple of months have been like and now what they're going to have to do how things are going to change when he does open on the twenty second by no one thing for sure. He's just happy to have those doors open again. And I'm really looking forward to talking with Tony at eight fifteen eastern time question of the day you can go to at H. R. N. on Twitter Horse Racing Radio Network on facebook to weigh in. Do you find yourself on races more now than you normally would. Yes no in about the same. Are Your three choices to answer? Just kind curious. He Oh people are sitting around staying home more often. Racing's men.

"In today's show we're going to discuss and preview the return of Churchill downs and Santa Anita Park this weekend in the dudes. We'll ratifiers like some of the major races going around the country this weekend after months of wondering if they're going to run win they're going to run. What's going to happen with the schedules? The stakes races were used to we're back. Churchill downs and Santana Park get the green light to come back and run so obviously no fans will be either one of them but it's huge sign for both tracks obviously and this in general sign that we're we're kind of getting through this so man you know it's like okay now all of a sudden you've got churchill downs bag endless throw in Girl in allowance race. Yeah so on Saturday. Race for multiple euro is a fortified favorite. The two-horse It's like welcome back. Churchill Down Churchill. Downs has to a fantastic fantastic cards this weekend. So highlighted by mom girl. But there's a there's like three or four really good allowance. Races on Saturday really allow trace on Sunday with a horse you own Toledo on in the Fancy League Toledo and wish right. But he's facing some really nice. Three Year Ozzy littlefield probably going to step up to stakes after this. If the ones that run well it just. It's so good in. When Oakland closed it Churchill definitely was the one the needed to get open know. Because it's just that's the next step that's where a lot of people go and to have the marquee track in the state of Kentucky Open was just very uplifting for the horse racing community so Yeah this is going to be a just a monster meet at Churchill You know you you already mentioned the Matt Win coming up next weekend which is going to be Monster Day. They've they've added other stakes races on that card. Thank there's five on the car and then Stephen Foster night is still going to happen to me later on the meat. So there's a lot to look forward to and and I guess speculation maybe the bluegrass on. Maybe by the end of the me like this. The Matt Win a prep for the BLUEGRASS. I I don't know that I mean all of a sudden being the winds were fifty than you would think that the next the next point would be one hundred point race at the. It seems that lay now. Who knows what's going to happen with that. That's all speculation but the the point of it is. It's Saturday is a celebration that it's back and we're going to have a really good solid meet at Churchill. Probably one of the better meets I've ever had. We'll really going to start. Because obviously you've had so many owners and trainers and whatnot just in this holding pattern waiting. Obviously Oakland picked up a lot of the slack but that was really good for the local trio people in thankfully we. We had a lot there but and they chipped in for steaks but for the most part like all of a sudden these traitors. When I can get back so you're going to start see this influx of horses and we haven't got to the west coast but you're starting to see this influx of horses that you're like like I mean I'm not by no means. Do I think Toledo is in the but that field? Say let's call that field that the Sunday allowance. You're going to start to see this kind of horses that you hadn't been seen yet. They're like okay. These are the horses that could step up into at least the Kentucky Derby type hopeful that emerged in the summer. So you're going to start to see these kinds of fields shape that we haven't been seen or been accustomed seeing so yeah. It's good to have these back kind of brings a whole new flavor. What do you think thinking about this earlier? Obviously Oakland just not after nine really most tracks running lately have been so records just because yeah what else bet. So what do you think about? Now that you're getting some of these really big ones like Churchill Santa Anita you think they're going to continue like are they going to continue the transfer of this day even though no no one's air they're going to hammer records? Yeah I think so. I think Churchill downs. This weekend is GONNA be incredible. I think it's GonNa be a really good telling sign for what we have become. You know what I mean the summer and into the fall like if these tracks that are opening up just continue to just to just blow it out of the water with no one there it. I think it really shows you too. How potentially healthy the sport could be if you just give good product. Sports Yeah keeps keeps on that on that subject. We're we're recording this Thursday night Charleston's on the fifth race and I just saw a tweet. They're averaging about four to five hundred thousand dollars A race in handles. So that's GONNA come out to. They're probably going to do three to four million dollars tonight. Charlestown and handle. Obviously that's very good for attract like that and then what will churchill do specifically really hard to predict that but I think it's going to be huge and you got to thank them and Gulfstream are going to compete with each other at the same time and then saying that. Nita is going to can compete with the later. Half and then they're going to be unopposed them and Golden Gate. So you're going to see big numbers You know it's going to be big. Does what she said. I know that anyways. So now as we move over to Santa Anita obviously Churchill's GonNa take you said GonNa handle the earlier earlier part of the day but then you head over to Santa Anita and it gets you back to that west coast racing. We're accustomed to and against another sign. Another question would be like candidate kind of you know we we know. He struggled with the short fields and kind of unable to fill races and then of course covert happened. And then you're like okay. So can we get back to because he know these trainers have been itching to run so surely there's horses run. We've got full fields Friday Saturday and Sunday at Santa Anita. It's unbelievable and you know Santa. Anita was making a little progress in that direction with fuller fields before this happened so it started to. Yeah so they. They kind of picked up where they left off plus some obviously because of the situation full field. I think you're GonNa see it throughout the meat because you said there in the run the God Iran. Somewhere Guy Rodney sources. I mean it's been six eight weeks for they'd been on track for Ray so Yeah it looks great. I think this meat really revolves around June six. Which is the same any the Derby Day? And they're also going to run the Gold Cup Tanzania and a few other races there big races there. I should say so. That's that's the big date to look forward to You know authentic verizon or a P is a just a huge huge event and we'll have other horses in there as well so it's GonNa be a lot of fun at Santa Anita this is again. It's it's definitely a condensed meet now. Because we've lost so much time. But I do think they're going to do what they can to make up for that loss time you'll be fun to see if you know given the Mazar we have out there like with the Bedford and whatnot. Like you know if there's any any you know hidden horses that might pop up here. They've been itching to run at Santa Anita The that really emerge as running. You know these convinced me but I can just imagine baffert having someone under the Hood. I think the Kentucky Derby winner is GonNa run at Santa. Anita doesn't matter which one it is. It's not going to be in the Derby but he's got one that's probably win the Derby skit ready to debut so that you think he's a winner after his workout today. He monstrous so visit saying fan. Yeah I'm a robot that it works in my article and I still never claimed him but anyways yeah he's a monster he's a he he looks like a monster to that. He pretty much any horse he. He was unbelievable in this less work out today. He's big time purchase. And obviously you know a Lotta hopes I you know I say the I mean he's going to have any started. Rick he's GonNa have a big shot to to be a factor in these steaks raise. You'll make history because you'll have the the first words Ever Win Kentucky Derby Day prior to me maybe be getting ahead of myself time. Derby winner but I think the sources really really good. I mean really. Good Paul Paul Paul. Then pull him yeah so he claimed like two months ago too so now. I mean I know I my radar but it's just like of course we didn't know what the plans were the Derby and whatnot but at that time but still you just like he claim a horse that you know that's never ran and there's going to be Might find out differently now. Listen how can happen but in the mornings he looks just as good as well stakes winner.
