"Enough then she asked me again and i just lied and said yeah i like. Why did he do this. I have no idea. I think it has to do a lot with like not wanting to make the other person feel inconvenient which is insane because that's also like their job in their whole. You're in the service industry. I also work in the service industry and so it's like my whole purpose of being there is to make sure you're leaving with exactly what you want and for some reason if a client tells me anything i am like there are one hundred percent like i'm like. I'm so glad that you told me about this now. So 'cause i couldn't fix it later. But i am still on the other side of it in the service situation and just being like. Oh i don't wanna be a bother are inconvenient. So i'm just going to sit here and smile. Yes i do that a lot and it's something that i've been really working on you and i talked about this. I like so. I was right in the middle of learning this the hard way. This was right at the beginning when i was learning about how to speak up for myself. Carl and i went to this food. Chuck park that was near our house. And i had just had dinner and it was like a summer night and we decided to get milkshakes. And the milkshakes were like ridiculously expensive. I can't remember how much they wear. But it was like whoa. We're gonna to pay that for a milk shake league. It was like maybe ten dollars or something like that bryce milkshake but we were like. We want to support this business in over here. We're having fun date night. And so carl ordered. Maybe an ice cream cone and i ordered milkshake. And so the guy who's there says you know. I'm just filling in for a friend and he hands monkeys. This is bad he needs to tell me. 'cause i don't really know what i'm doing so i take this ten dollar milkshake that i was so excited for and also like totally shamed. I just spent ten dollars on a milkshake. And i take a sip of it and it's basically slightly ice cream flavored milk. Like it was terrible so bad. It wasn't even possible for a milkshake. And i mean to be fair. He was like. I don't do this on a regular basis. I'm dispelling in and he asked me. Tell me if this isn't good and i looked carl and he asked me he goes Like how is it like. It's so bad like he needs to add so much more ice cream. And i said will you tell him and car looked at me and he just kind of laughed and folded desires. Chic- nope if you want this to be corrected. You need to tell him because he knew. I was learning how to stand up for myself and that i really needed to practice and so i sat there forever. And that's the decision. I had in my in my hands. Was i going to waste ten dollars. Like it was really undrinkable. Or was i going to inconvenience. This guy. you're right. He had asked me like give me feedback. I want this to be a good experience for you. I know you just gave me ten dollars. I want to give you a great mcshea in in return and so i ended up actually speaking up for myself but actually i did it again whereas he spoke up for myself the first time he fixed it but it still didn't have enough ice cream in it and i just gave up and so i totally like had a couple sips of a ten dollar takes. I think i threw it away off man. I think that's my lesson. Is i need to speak up for myself twice. Because sometimes the first time isn't enough and you're so right that people want to people want to give a great experience you know we want to be good at our jobs and sometimes we need a little bit of feedback l. It's so true one thing that you mentioned earlier. Will you're talking about starbucks. Or and i will always make sure. My starbucks order is correct because they encourage in the starbucks. Mike mantra is to make sure that your order is correct. And so their whole thing is about being as consistent as possible and so. I've always kind of like knowing that knowing that. That's part of their employees mantra. It makes me kinda feel like. Hey this is too sweet. Could i have another and like that. Be like okay. Just because i know it's part of their mantra kind situation. Yeah i don't know if this ever happens to you but if you go to a place and you have a bad experience like usually we won't go back again I think that as i know for like as a business owner if someone has a bad experience would wave rather have them tell me in the moment so that i could fix it so that then they will come back in the quilting. Is that a lot of times in the fixing it. That's an opportunity to connect more. That's an opportunity. Like i know that i've been to places where something's been wrong. But then the way that they fixed it mean me totally fall in love with the place or the person or you know i. It was a good experience that i thought i'm coming back here a million times but we don't really give people that chance when we don't speak up ourselves so anyway you are totally not alone in the front that okay so my first story is really one of the first things. They talked about in counselling. And they'll give you guys an idea of how truly hard this was for me. So i had a friend's dad dot. I had seen in one context. We'd i'd been at their house. And i was gonna see him again. It had been like maybe four months. And i was about to see him again in just a few days while he actually the first time i saw him head recommended a book to me and he gave me a copy of the book and then all of a sudden and i sat on sat on. It like didn't read it. He was probably gonna ask me about it but kind of forgot about it because they just didn't have time to read it and the other thing about it is that it was a kind of a thriller type book and i don't know about you. Know we all have kind of different thresholds her what we can handle what our brains and our hearts can handle the had the most tender heart and reading something like that is not going to just be hard for me in the moment. But i'll remember those stories or i'll remember that fear like for months and years to come afterwards so i really try to kind of protect my brain from things that are scary because i just. It's really hard for me to let go of them. So he he. He recommends this book to me and i take it feeling instantly stuck because i'm like hi shouldn't read this book like this book is not going to be good for my heart but i wanted to connect with them and i wanted to have something to talk to him about. I took the book will anyway. I'm supposed to see him again. Three days and i start panicking. I'm like i need to read this book. He's going to ask me about this book. And i really felt like i had no other option other than to read it and so what i ended up doing was i downloaded the audible version. Because i thought that at least if i was going to read it i could bike pack for the chip or go to the gym or make dinner or something while i did it and download the book which was like twenty five dollars or something and i look at the the amount of time that it's gonna take me to get this book and it was twenty seven hours so instead of thinking like this is crazy. I don't have time for this. Because i didn't. I like a crazy next three days leading up. I was going to see him instead of thinking like this is totally crazy one. This book is not going to be good for my.

"He didn't didn't want to be part of the you know. It was not a deep state opposing trump at every turn it was a complacent state sort of dragging its heels but eventually completing the policy and he didn't didn't wanna be a part of that environment anymore. Yeah i mean i didn't i didn't read the park op-ed as saying people were dragging heels. It was more like he was uncomfortable with the idea that people can just sort of go to work every day and be implementing these policies or else defending things that are being said that they just have a moral core and moral disagreement with <hes> and he that was the part where he just didn't feel like he could do that anymore. And you know just to give you you a little bit of look more subjective impression as person who worked the state of art for ten years very dedicated to the mission. I loved the time i spent there. Are you know these two resignations for me. Chuck park and bethany milton or kind of like the saddest ones for me because you know it wasn't that they were sort of like pushed out by you know a a trump person or whatever it was like they they just lost their moral cores were compromised and they just couldn't do it anymore. It was like this like the death of any pretext of american exceptionalism <hes> based based on our values <hes> it just like a devastating kind of thing compounded by the fact that these two you know they've been at the state department for foreign service officers for like ten eleven years. This is like that middle group of foreign service officers who are the future senior career foreign foreign service officers who will be career ambassadors. This is the the cohort of people who are the future and they are going to be filling these positions in africa in you know tough tough posts all around the world and we're losing these people we are losing the future of of the really talented crew for service so again more of a subjective rendering but for me that was kind of like the saddest part <hes> again this month with these two who resignations yeah and i was. I mean just in terms of the impact of that. I was recently speaking with a a senior diplomat and one thing that i that i often ask. Is you know why should a lay person or an average reader. <hes> care whether you know one more mid level career diplomat is leaving and what they were saying to me his look this whole system of you know inexperienced political appointee ambassadors or sort of sidelining the state department we could get away with that after the end of the cold war in this period of you know pox americana but now if we truly are gearing up for this era of great power competition in china's rise <hes> and you know all these other actors that are challenging us not only at home but you know in the developing world in africa in latin america cetera cetera. We need to be on our game <hes>. We need to have the best diplomats there on the ground <hes> trying to advance u._s. Foreign policy on one anecdote. I heard that was particularly pointed at an embassy at an american embassy in east africa there were two u._s. Economic cone diplomats <hes> and at the chinese embassy a few blocks away there were about one hundred <hes> and so why does this matter. I mean in the same way that people are talking about. You know we need a strong and robust military. We need boots on the ground. We need ships at sea. <hes> we need to deploy these missiles here or there to counter china or counter russia. It's all part of the same mhm conversation. It's just a part that's that's way more ignored and the impacts might be more diffuse but they will still be very serious if we have this hollowing louis now of the mid level officers at the state department especially as we're trying to reposition ourselves for this new era..

"In a scathing ed in the washington post are career foreign service officer explains why he's resigned in protest of president trump his name as chuck park and he spent ten years serving in various countries for united states he wrote in part came into the government inspired by a president who convince me there was still some truth to the gospel of american exceptionalism. A child immigrants in south korea also felt a duty to the society the welcome welcome my parents and allowed me and my siblings to thrive over three tours abroad. I worked spread well. I believe we're american values freedom fairness and tolerance but more and more i found myself alphand defensive stand struggling to explain to foreign peoples the blatant contradictions at home he goes on to say he never saw an anti-trump deep state in the government or resistance he calls what he saw a complacent state and a state where political appointees contributed to incompetence and contradictory policies that the president would then sometimes change jonah whim without any notification chuck park joins me tonight first tv interview about his high profile resignation so explain why why you decided to resign sure so let me start off by saying this is absolutely a personal decision for me is really difficult the goal for me you know i don't mean to project my own values and the limits of my own conscience on the entirety of the federal bureaucracy so let me first say that there are thousands and thousands of federal employees who did not make the decision i did and they are absolutely working to prevent this freight train from going off the rails and exploiting okay so respect for them them but and i think this was the real kind of one of the core messages of my op ed if you're concerned american and and you're hoping that some unelected official somewhere or a cabal of civil servants somewhere will resist this president and fight his policies from within the government then you will be disappointed. You never saw any resistance or deep state. I certainly saw ah people's personal reservations. I never saw deep state. That's right what i did. See what people really weighing this thing and if i can use an analogy <hes> <hes> working as diplomat overseas as a foreign service officer feels kind of like watching your home from a distance so you know even under the prior administration and i mentioned conditioned my op ed i absolutely could see visible cracks in the walls. Maybe even the foundation of our nation and our government at least <hes> <hes> the past three years have felt like the house is on fire and not only on fire but there's a man purposefully lighting more or fires and so when i see when i talked to my colleagues not that they don't feel the same distressed that i do. They absolutely do not like they're not as concerned as i am about that house on fire as not that they don't have compassion for the people in that house house who are being hurt. It's that they decide to keep their distance and hope that the house is still standing afterward and for me. That is the definition of complacency you in fact. Let's say that there's no deep state. There is complacent state so explain it. I mean because look foreign service officers are working for the american people volt working representing america overseas. They're not representing any particular administration the imb. There's an ambassador appointed. Usually sometimes it's career foreign service i and and sometimes it's <hes> some donor knows nothing but has given a lot of money and yet plenty of people serve overseas in administrations. They don't like they don't agree with the policies but they faithfully execute. The policy is as is their job. That's absolutely true zach complacency or is that on service so let me come back to that particular question but what i'll say is i thought about this for a long time. You know at least two and a half years not more than that and what it also is. I rationalized myself using the same words you used. I soar my oath to the constitution of the american people. I don't swear an oath to particular president or for a particular party and that's true but that's really abstract so when.

"Demoralizing. They're kind of trying to keep their heads down and a lot of them are saying thank you know trying to get assigned as far away from the united states as i can because i'm so disturbed by what's going on in a lot of them are basically just trying to wait out the trump administration and hoping for better and more saner times in the future and obviously in the case of chuck park has his conscience nagged him and he felt he could not be part of this monstrous administration and i admire him and i respect his stand on principle but it's you know it's a very difficult dilemma anderson that i think everybody in the government faces because of all of the good people full of conscience if all of the dedicated public servants resigned in protest who's gonna be left. It's going to be people like stephen miller and these crazy ideologues and conspiracy mongers mongers who are going to be running the entire government right and by the way i mean these are again. Yes in stephen miller others might deride them as bureaucrats and or deep state but these are people who have dedicated their lives to service in this case the foreign service and you know our basic serve in every administration the the idea is there are serving the country not the political winds and to have these people the <hes> all the knowledge they've acquired and the expertise required to have that just disappear obviously long-term. "Enough. And so then she asked me again. And I just lied. And I just said, yeah. Like titled widen do this. I have no idea. I think it has to do a lot with, like not wanting to make the other person Phil inconvenient, which is insane because that's also like their job in their whole. You're in the service industry. I also work in the service industry. And so it's like my whole purpose of being there to make sure you're leaving what exactly what you want. And for some reason, if a client tells me anything I am like they're one hundred percent like I'm like, I'm so glad that you told me about this now. So because I couldn't fix it later, but I'm still on the other side of it in the service situation and just being like oh I don't wanna be bothered are inconvenient. So I'm just going to sit here and smile. Yes, I do that a lot. And it's something that I've been really working on United talked about this. I like I was right in the middle of learning. This the hard way, this was like right at the beginning when I was learning about how to speak up for myself. Carlina went to this food, Chuck park that was near our house and. I we just had dinner and it was like a summer night. And we decided to get milk shakes and the milkshakes were like ridiculously expensive. I can't remember how much they were. But it was like, whoa. We're gonna pay that for milkshake like it was like maybe ten dollars or something like that. Pricey milkshake. But we were like we want to support this business and over here. We're having a fun date night. And so, Carl ordered maybe an ice cream cone, and I ordered shake. And so the guy who's there says, I'm just filling in for a friend, and hands me milkshake. He says, if this is bad, you need to tell me 'cause I don't really know what I'm doing. So I take this ten dollar milkshake that I was so excited for it. And also like totally shamed. I spent ten dollars on a milkshake, and I take a sip of it and it's basically slightly ice cream flavored milk, like it was terrible. Soul bad. It wasn't even possible for a milkshake, and I mean to be fair. He was like I don't do this on a regular basis, I'm just filling in. And he asked me like tell me if this isn't good. And I looked at Carl, and he asked me, he goes, like, how is it like it's so bad like he needs more ice cream. And I said, will you tell him and car looked at me? And he just kind of laughed and folded, his arms Schick. Nope. If you want this to be corrected you need to tell him because he knew that I learn. How to stand up for myself and that I really needed to practice sat there for ever. And I just that's the decision I had in my in my hands was I going to waste ten dollars. It was really undrinkable or was I going to inconvenience this guy. Right. He'd asked me like give me feedback. I want this to be a good experience for you. I know you just gave me ten dollars. I want to give you a great milkshake in in return. So I ended up actually speaking for myself, but actually I did it again. Whereas spoke up for myself the first time he fixed it, but it still didn't have enough ice cream in it, and I just gave up. And so I totally like how to couple sips of ten dollars take. And then I think I threw it away. Oh man. So I think that's my lesson I need to speak up for myself twice because sometimes the first time isn't enough. And you're so right that people want to people want to give a great experience. You know, we want to be good at our jobs. And sometimes we just need a little bit of feedback. Oh, it's so true. One thing that you mentioned earlier. You're talking about Starbucks orders. And I will always make sure my Starbucks. Order is correct. Because they encourage in the Starbucks man. Mike mantra is to make sure that your order is correct..

"So that's some plus, I guess. Yeah. Yeah. Have you seen the guilt tax hike? That they're trying to put in place in Ohio dewine talking eighteen cents. I believe it is bama's talking to Don Michigan's talk and forty five cents. What the? Well, eight eighteen fences, no more the general assembly decided tonight. They're going to ease the burden on the general public. Again. The ten point seven point seven gallons came up with ten. Okay. So ten point. I kind of figured they'd try to cut it down a little. A little but not for the guys that bike diesel. So the guys buy diesel they decided that they need to have a twenty percent tax hike. Basically a guy that's currently running about five thousand miles in the state of Ohio is six miles per gallon. Paying roughly two and thirty three dollars and thirty three cents. But with the sixty percent increase. It's got about four hundred dollars. Truckers get taxed three ways. How much more do we have to pay? Oh, and they're also say stating that, you know, they're facing a one billion dollar shortfall for road and bridge maintenance and construction by twenty thirty which is like eleven years away yet. The big question that we've got is. Where's the money that we're spending? They're all going. Oh, that's right. We Casey commend robbing Peter to pay Paul and taking money out of infrastructure bills and everything else and spread it out on stupid things. Like I dunno auto to run up thirty three and back down there around Marysville. Peace liberty area, supposedly casick under casick. They borrowed a whole bunch of money to cover the road projects. And of course, now, you gotta pay it back with interest in. I guess that's why the wine steps in. And he says, hey, we. Yeah. We we can't continue to borrow money. And you know, I it's there there's a whole lot of money misplace. And yet they're telling us, you know, when we have these meetings up at the state house. We don't have the money to open up Chuck parking in the old scale houses or the rest areas and playing sample one place polar trucks and throwing a porta potty. And a couple of trash cans. I mean, you guys waste for money on nuts and bolts than you would on that every month. The check markings been an issue. And that's why we're doing a slow roll on Friday and Columbus, I don't know if you caught onto that or not or anybody brought it up, you know, we've been trying to deal with people at the state level as well as the federal I won't for a few years now, and nobody seems to be listening to us. So. And especially with this fuel tax increase. I mean, how much more does a commercial driver have to pay. And then we have the second or fourth largest interstate infrastructure in the United States of America. I learned that. I I can't remember that second or fourth. It'd be exact that's one of those two. I thought that was kinda interesting that we kinda rank that high compared to everywhere else in the country, but you know. They saw rose been happening across the country. And you know, drivers are divers are tired of it. And you know, we've got roads that are just absolutely tore up. And we used to always make fun of Indiana, bigoted, Indiana has some of the worst troops to drive on. I sure I can't Ohio's worship Indiana's worse right out of the. Yeah. Built just core up and beat up, and we haven't been put money into our put money into our roads in a while. Did they ever figured out the brench fence bridge to my knowledge? No, it's it's all still talk. All talk haven't come up with the thing. Is there still issues between the city council and the mayor as to why there's issues or a kept up with that one lately? Honestly, I'm not real exact I haven't heard anything about any even no discussion about it in such a long time. Now, I mean, there was a lot of bickering back and forth about saying they wanted to make it a toll bridge in other sand over not gonna let it be a toll bridge in those kind of things, but I think it comes down to where I think Kentucky and Ohio have to kind of come together in a great how they're going to foot the Bill, right? That rhonda. She was talking about you guys touched on the eighteen year old. Yeah. I kind of look at this way an eighteen year olds good enough to throw a gun in his hand and send him overseas. I don't see a problem with an eighteen year old driving truck. Now what I also would like to see this is something I've been working on with FMCSA, and and trying to get some of the vocational schools in Ohio on is. You know, we got all these national schools were junior and senior high school kid gets to go to. Why don't we make a two year cook driving program? I mean, they'd be a lot farther ahead with a two year truck driving program in their junior and senior year prepared them for a job like that trying to get them ready before they get out of their their their high school year. That's all right. We've got a pause.

Water you don't have Norm he. Wears round because Some white fall this year we're ready worse foot to sixty inches above normal average rainfall for the year. And a lot of areas so our ground is so saturated at this point, that any, type rainy get you know even fifteen or twenty miles away when it gets into the tributaries it comes down the tributaries and then at the flow of whatever body of water you're, on your. Rotten on, already fast-moving. Water you know it doesn't it doesn't take much tributary dad a little horrid. In all, the next thing you know you're, all, of a, sudden you're you're, you're okay body water now valid. Dangerous body of water And I think that was catching a lot of people off, guard with. These things, you know. It's it doesn't no it hasn't been a storm is what happens you know. It mean, or twenty miles away from them, and, that's where, a lot of, the, lot of the flood It's, all coming from upstream all converging downstream and all these multiple tribute Jerry's were converging these rivers just can't handle the excess water that's coming into us. Just like they get out there with the. Thunderstorms out out west where they talk about those normally dry washes and what Arroyo's. Whatever they, call, them were. Thunderstorm, may be occurring five miles away and you. Have no, idea that there's a raging river suddenly going. To be rushing that's that's the flash flooding they deal with Out in that part of the country it catches a lot of people off. Guard hikers and campers and. Things like that Morning lone ranger good morning Watch eleven. O'clock Philadelphia news on me rafting company said the accounted. For all the people Now of course maybe that's what they want to. Say but you, know I got breakfasts morning and I. Got an alert on my phone flash. Flood warning severe. Storms look out for. Flash floods that was a warning early this morning So am I Thorpe is a tourist area that have whitewater. Rafting a lot Grell road an old prison MSA tourist area Rafting company in, my opinion more, about the money And safely because there were like one. Exactly what they warned about. Is exactly what happened the school expressway was closed. The Pennsylvania turnpike between, Norristown and Bali was closed upper, Darby was under hopefully people rescued off, the said are colorless So we, what they said this morning is, what happened Flash flooding on the, better 'cause tomorrow's supposed to be some. More coming down but according to the raft and company Were accounted for If you go, probably on YouTube I saw it on the Weather Channel showed a car dealer. In little falls New Jersey And a river of. Water came down and was literally, washing brand new out of the parking, lot and send them down, to torn of water. What a site just bobbing around, like like like basketball in the water just washing washing right now the dealership, parking lot Sad news Any, music fans Aretha Franklin is on, her deathbed the Queen, of soul And her family's around there so expecting her not to. Make it now, let's go to the trucking industry, since the trucking network I got my latest issue of land line I like to share a few things that I found interesting because since there's only one. Hundred sixty thousand people of the millions of truck drivers to give, a crap and we'll pay six point eight cents a day maybe. I can enlighten a few people might. Wanna, pay attention again Todd Spencer president hits one outta park And they celebrated their forty fifth year on the cover, of the, magazine air forty five years Valetta tonight talks about the membership now we know. These big ata characters they're all about hiring bean counter and the bottom line couldn't careless driver's so he compares what they do to, what a, it does Membership is made up of men and women behind the wheel that's. The makeup of the board of directors and the officers also The polish policy guidance comes from the real experts with skin in the game and. Miles and time on the front line is show no words drivers So any talks about this they've been pushing hard to to repeal the yelled garbage So the members One of the. Important things members the repeal of the mandate members don't like it and they don't want it and l. have never been. Life saving technology they go back to two. It was Warner it's back in two thousand seven at the only congressional hearing ever held to talk about ELD's the big carrier Representative with more than a decade of. Sighted, have virtually no connection to crashes while, the oversight of new drivers and. New carriers for safety is almost non-existent, now he talks about. Chuck parking truck parking spent a problem, for twenty years we don't need technology to tell us. There are no spaces instead we, simply need more spaces again common sense from Todd Spencer also on. The Elida member priority list is addressing detention time and we just we just talked about this couple of weeks ago what other industry would allow a. Baked percentage of, its workers to be routinely delayed for twenty to thirty hours every week by users of it services Says here if a driver, never knows how long they will be at any pickup or delivery.
