"We go one of the guys. I pick up got up next week. There you go so kudos to you. My friend philip rivers that do good games in a row. He's got the rates Derek carson. he's been good more often than he's been bad in the island. Blame the weather in cleveland. He's got the chargers coming up right. Nick mullins on thursday night against the packers. Because jimmy got her. I'm not saying that he's a. He's a redraft. Traditional redraft play but in two. Qb leagues and then. Who's the quarterback. Jacksonville is it Mike glennon or jake. Is it luton how to pronounce this. Guy's name. I think it's lieutant but it's not gonna be reggie and again desperation. Hey i'm not gonna just give you the obvious plays out there. They've got the texans. Maybe that'll be is for game. I mean you never know. So whoever gets the call for the jaguars could be worth a look into. Qb and superplex leagues not your traditional. So this is where we're at right. Now we this this year. I'll tell you right now. This year's been it's been a challenge dacoven and injuries and never was every week. Somebody gets hurt like every it's the big name guys who right now kills her. But some of these matchups man with these with these quarterbacks and running backs been brutal especially the running back because there are situations where like one week like like the chargers. One week it was just a jackson the following week joshua kelley then yesterday was just jackson the next week. It'll be chuck muncie. I have no idea but it's been. It's been tough for those of you who don't know. Chuck muncie look him up on stanford running back for the san diego chargers back his dead where you know the the cool guidance to oh yeah. I can't go wrong with the goggles. I am just going to say anyone who's listening to show for a couple of years knows how i feel about jordan wilkins. Even i gave jordan wilkins like a year ago and never going to happen and then all of a sudden here he is god. It's like it's like jeeze. The we's i mean and nobody saw that common. Like aigdirect like in the fifties running back. I need is in the thirties like he was a flex.

"The best tight end. That he's coached or played against in the NFL and has been around since 1975 when he joined the Baltimore Colts. He also talked about Jimmy Garoppolo. We do have a world Siri's tonight with Clayton Kershaw on the mound, but John The sandy read visor. He's where I am contending. Contesting saying proclaiming I know what the word is. That it's an early Halloween costume. And that is not in fact, Andy Reid, you know, signed. Oh, I know. Advisor. I believe it is Chuck Knox. That is coaching the Kansas City Chiefs right now. And they've gone decided ground, Chuck. Now I'll throw away my homies 10 scrambles in the game. But this rookie Edwards and Are we saying the age? Surely not because Joe Buck was saying Hello, Jim Nan says, the layer. What is it? What is? I don't think it's I think Levi's got it wrong to. It's not the lair. It's a layer that's so you're saying it, but it's soft. It's not in there. You know It's not the way Steve Levy says it. I mean, I watched a lot of L s u football last year unless it's just who knows Somebody's got to ask him, but I when I want to tell issue last year, and I've watched 10 games It was a lair. Not not the layer like Claire, like Stephen and I would like an actually clearing eclairs are good. Uh, anything. Whatever you say, is never. He had won the one h Whatever he gave, it took 26 times. Last night, and I know you're going to a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. What are you worried about? Your word about the quarterback? You're worried about Tyreke. The streak you're worried about Kelsey? Sammy didn't play last night, but the Buffalo sad deeper. I thought they were getting Matt Milano back. They did not get him back for the game. But they did get todavia swipe back. But What has gotten into Andy Reid do if you include the quarterback scrambles. And you know, it's kind of hard. Let's give all the quarterbacks scrambles to To Ah, What would have been passed attempt that I have to go back and look at him all. But let's just say so. My home's through 26 passes last night, right? He scrambled 10 times. Let's give them the 10 and say Threw it Thurday he called 36 run place. Well, then you take away the chin that Mahomes ran. It was balanced. He was 36 36 7 reality. It's 46 26. But I I mean, that's the way you play, and I think Andy Reid of all the great coaches and football. Was so decidedly past. Happy. I mean, you could go back. Even Air Korea. L he had Chuck Muncie had good running backs. They ran the ball. Even Sean Payton runs the ball a lot. Andy Reid may throw the ball the most of any highly successful coach. I mean, give me another one, Janet. I'm trying to think here and he was an offensive lineman in college, and he Grew up in the West Coast offense in all that. He has changed considerably here in the way that they are running the ball. Maybe it's just a specialness to this back, but he had. He said. Good backs. He had Brian Westbrook ahead. Other backs throughout his career. I mean, it's just the way he is running the football was is really impressive. I thought he did the first game out, and, well, they don't have a lot of reps know, really organized team activities. Training camp was weird. Maybe the passing game, even the homes and these guys, They're just not on point. I thought people would run it, Morva. Now we're seeing a major transformation in the way Andy Reid and Casey Chiefs are running their offense. He has become ground, Chuck, I'm just amazed by this. Well, he started to BYU. And for those too young to remember mean At that point, he was there from 78 80 and Jim McMahon was there. And obviously I'll. Edwards was the head coach Jack Lee, So they threw the ball all over the place. They said all sorts of crazy records. They were a quarterback factory. During that time. His first job in coaching was as a grad assistant at BYU, So that's probably where it all started. But, yeah, the 46 runs he had last night. If you technically go to the 46 runs are the most he's ever had in his career. That includes the Eagles as well and the 245 yards of the most he's had since as the chief's head coach. So and then Mahomes afterwards just said, Well, that was just kind of the game plan. We'll see next week. But how scary is that? When you're trying to stop the passing game, and all of a sudden they can gas you like that, and I don't know if love Ian Bell has Anything left. But if you combo him up, and what they said, is maybe he'll be more of a goal line back because there hasn't been as good there, But that is scary man. If they can run it like that and throw it the way they've thrown it. Yeah, the Libyan levels not the same guy as he Waas in 2017 Take it a whole year off. He's just not. He's been stuck in mud, but You go into a game, and he's not the lead back looking to get, you know, 2025 touches in a game and you give him like 5 to 10. He'll be effective, you know, moving around and align them up like a Wide receiver Som and put him in the slot. He's a multi skilled player very much. Andy Reid Chai runningback. Conversely, Joshua Alan was just all just terribly inaccurate in the game, and that's the He's got a big arm, but he doesn't often know he's throwing it to And he was just off in Buffalo was disappointing. And in the second game, I mean, Cuyler Murray. I missed a couple of deep throws Dandy Isabella early in the game, and I love was Morrie's A ballad is not being able to close on it. He did hit Christian Kirk. First of all they ran. You know, the fiery kill that we've seen And now the 40 Niners using it a lot with Debo. And I don't even know if I'd call it a jet Sweet because a sweep is a run play. It is. It is a run plan. Kyle was saying yesterday on the menu, which in the run column, But there's a technically a forward pass. Whatever it is, they You know, gave Christian Kirk the easy one. And then he hit him over the top with the nine route..

"Can't be great with But I like Jamal Murray. Number 27. That sound like you could be great in the MBA number. 27 yes time. Isiah Thomas. 11 11 listen, really jumped out. As far as the history of numbers. There's not like a lot like 12 would be for a quarterback. Ember. Jon Heder was 21. Love quarterbacks with numbers in the 2021. I thought, God, First of all, this guy's bald and his number is 21. I went, anybody could be quarterback and you could have any number. Yes. Mario Lemieux's 66 made him look slower than he Waas was much faster and quicker on the ice, but 66 made it looks slower. But 99 with Gretzky that was clean was cool. He made it cool. And then Mark Gastineau had 99. Is there? Is there a number? Did somebody have a number that made them look better than what they really were? That's what I'd be curious about. Malcolm ERA looks slower with 41. Yeah. You have a problem with me. Come here. If he was number 22, he would look faster and faster. Yes. Was Chuck Foreman. Any scary with 40 for when you have double digits of the same number? I think something about a 33 doors. No, no, I was good with that. I was good with 44. Leroy Kelly wore number 44. Chuck Muncie War 46 glasses. Yeah. You can't be fast when you when your number's 46 Club. Abbot card does look slow, like he's got that cool levee in Bell thing where it looks like he's just sort of slowly going. Then he's gone. That's cool. "Cousins had a great win on Sunday. But would you take him over Jimmy Garoppolo Derrick Henry all running back but he better with the football. Lamar Lamar Jackson. You throughway ages. I was going to quote. I was going to read it. Just throw it away. It needed to wear. Yeah I have a degree in English doesn't it is time for toss up to enter and then two men leave about four and a half minutes later. What's I toss up? Who would you rather rather have Saturday? Kirk cousins or Jimmy Garoppolo. So based on what I saw against New Orleans I would say cousins. I've been knocking him from for many years. Now I'm shutting up about this that pass in overtime to Phelan. That was that was beautiful. Tell me again. How many playoff games that Jimmy Garoppolo has one? He's wanting concertedly none. No this is I start so I started to played in three. So I would think that perhaps Garoppolo might be a little bit nervous. I mean I'm just looking GONNA cousins. I'm looking at feeling and digs and cook and Rudolph and I'm thinking that that's an arsenal so I'll say cussing but the problem is for cousins. He's playing early in a much better defense in San Francisco than he faced in the dome. That's right San Francisco knows how to play defense. They knew how to get after the quarterback. And that's what causes problems. When he's is facing pressure he's GonNa get pressure like sixty percent of this game? I'm not really GONNA go with Garoppolo as much as I'm going to go with the forty niners that's the question. I'm GonNa Take Garoppolo this week. And uh-huh cousins good for him play off of them until about five thirty eastern on Saxony's. I mentioned cousins out next. Toss up more impressive runner Derrick Eric Henry Lamar Jackson Derrick. Henry is a battering Ram. Yeah there's not a lot of subtlety there's not any surprise he gets the ball. He goes straight the head. He knocks you down like a bowling pin. He had sixteen rushing touchdowns and he led the League in rushing. I'm not GonNa Knock Derek Cameron what I am going to say about. Lamar Jackson is became twelve hundred yards on the ground. And what position does he play in the one that we're nobody's ever done that. He's a quarterback. Water Oughta Bassett quarterback and his runs are not always often out of necessity. Because he's being chased and it's not that he's more impressive. I believe he's more dangerous as a runner because there is an element of surprise to him running Derek. Henry's great great reminds me of the new new version. Chuck Muncie three point. Oh but they've been guys like that. There's never been anybody like Lamar Jackson. He's doing never consider Michael because he's the three point. Oh version of Michael Vick. Lamar Jackson Lamar Jackson. The etched this question. It doesn't mean by the way I think Baltimore could have some trouble. I think because Tennessee plays as in some ways the same way they are as physical as Baltimore they are rough tough straight at you. It's like a mere image that they're playing the ravens on Sunday. Next Tossup..

"Thank god I have a copy of newspapers you see the story today I actually have the copies of the two forty stamper newspapers that first went back to the seventy five games so Chuck Muncie is illegal and then this is the one that the attic absolutely stunned the cal campus so much to John Riley who did sports on channel seven at one time bought into it and ran outside on the news that the cal of victory was being wiped out by they're changing the call you know so there's so much of that stuff around this is awesome you know the the great part about this that that lingers on it and I don't know how many of the saints realizes that you know the axe is inscribed with the scores of every big game since the inception of the rivalry but when the axe recited Stanford which I don't know if you mention has been the last nine years it that has then what yeah the accident then so what I can recall with the axe resides account that you're you can confirm that yeah that's right for a long time and you know I mean you look at some of the stunts against some of the stories again Saturday but in all its stance about the phony you're sneaking into bank vaults and all these things to get the axe back I mean it's it's too bad that it doesn't keep that level of excitement and involvement of the bay area like it used to because I think it's great I may and it's such a great rivalry back last night I was at an event and I was thinking of the fact that there are so many people have crossed over between the two schools coaches and players who have the different roles there and so it's just it's great fun I need to manage because there's nothing like that atmosphere for a cal Stanford game I think you know Jill maybe you and I should should reinvigorate this rivalry there yep bye bye bringing back some of those high jinks right from the thirties and forties and fifties no no we should you know I get media covert ops teams together one on each side and everything else is the mascot head see we come up with well yeah we will will invent something that has everybody can minutes were budgeted idiots and I'm all for it the last time Stanford lost as ranger through that intersection at the end of the game is that correct like that far that's gonna be a while ago and then it's than than that but it certainly I have gotten Caltrans bother doing then they talk about when they mention it to me now that you know we can't let this go on this app to go on and in some ways that probably maybe that hurts a little bit whether it be cal when a nine number or Stanford one on our own I think I'm all right release are better when it's pretty balanced at all somebody went a couple other somebody else comes back in with the dramatic one one sided the I don't think works and in almost any rivalry because the the team on the on the negative and their fans are getting depressed and say you know why should we bother we can't be to many house sort of thing do you agree with that yeah like Alex I think that you you look at the the the the records of the teams I think the rivalry and the excitement level ramps up a ton when when both teams are relevant at twelve contenders we've had a lot of that right I mean the yeah I'm not yeah absolutely good Stanford wasn't in the last few decades it's been a you know a perennial hill top ten top twenty teaming Kalas been kind of up and down and not quite there so that's what we need we need both these teams to be eight career eight two heading into this game perhaps I would do that that is really important I do get back to that level I think would be absolutely if the us down a shame and I really like the coaches right now I think I think David Shaw is an incredibly talented coach and person back last night at the a band I met is down for the first time and obviously both coaches come from football families so there's a lot of good things to connect this game and let's let's have a good time but I think this one is particularly hard to read because who is injured the most when both the route but the offense of linemen nothing they both at cornerback problems with physical issues so it's this is going to toss up I think of that happened awhile it's incredible voice thank you so much for the time Joe and Scott thanks for joining us it's always good to hear you Scott and and Joe a lot of fun only talk in the accounts never the one hundred twenty second big gay but Niners and Packers as well thank you take care of those that rely on the night formula we got you covered your not gonna let you do it thanks guys going to be my call in for Larry via I'm gonna give a dagger we'll talk later right yeah he's going on at the top of the hours of at ten I've got a twelve thirty I think chill right third out of twelve yeah okay HM up at the top so we can watch practice savor later voice the factors when there's a twelve thirty right can.

"Dan? Fouts is joined us on sports byline hall of fame quarterback. I mentioned that you had some great wide receivers, Charlie joiner tight end Kellen Winslow. They were probably the most famous both in the hall of fame, but you also had John Jefferson and west Chandler, what was the talent of that group collectively? What is it that they did consistently Dan? The number one rule, we had was don't fool the quarterback d where you're supposed to be and he'll get the ball to you. If you're open. And if the defense allows it so that was the biggest thing about our offense is that they were all unselfish. They all did what they were supposed to do within the design of the offense and they cut a lot of balls, because of it and, and because they were unselfish they rooted for each other. They supported each other, and they bailed me out many, many times, tremendous, athletes and football players. But even better people, I also thought that their talents complemented each other. I mentioned about Winslow being the tight end Charlie joiner in there as well. And you think about them it wasn't a one dimensional team was it? Well, no. I mean with wins, though you could do anything. I mean, he could play inside or outside Charlie was an outside receiver who really worked well in the slot. And really when you look at all the slot receivers. Now like your west Welker, Charlie joiner was. It was the forerunner of a lot of that. And then on the outside the dynamic Jefferson who could catch anything thrown his way and then equally dynamic Wes Chandler who could run through an entire defense. Once he got his hands on the ball. So to me, it was it was just a phenomenal group of guys to destroy the ball to. I think Dan, there were two one in addition subtraction, that we're really key during that fifteen years that you were with San Diego on the addition side, the running back, Chuck Muncie. What did he bring to the team? He brought fear fear to the defense because it's six three two hundred and forty five pounds and he could run a four five forty and just tough as nails. I mean he was very, very influential in setting up our play action passing game. Obviously, the threat of Muncie running at you was it was a scary thought for defense. So that allowed us to get better pass protection. In our receivers have more room down the field. Because the defense would be concerned with the run with Muncie, and they would be having to respect that. And the loss, of course, is when Fred dean was traded to San Francisco. I really thought that that was something that hurt that, that team my correct in the survey Shen don't question, Fred. Di went onto the have a whole fame career because what he did in San Francisco that, that really did hurt our defense that same year that the owner decided to ship. John Jefferson off the Green Bay, although he or did re re deemed himself by picking up west Chandler that same year..

All right. I'm locked in. Okay. All right. I got a rotten at forty four. This is actually not about movies. Not a great movie. But it's it's kitschy it's in that sort of fifties vein of alien invasion movies. I said barely fresh at sixty. I would I'm shocked if it's not my number because I do not have fond memories of this thirty nine. No, no, well, Chuck Muncie or John Regan's either way. Forty four Mars attacks is rotten at fifty three percent. Oh, dead on with the audience that was my number from north Hollywood high. Three. So that's up to action. Would you do one? Then when balls sixty seven and oh, yeah, it's weird. Because I think I've fine nine KOMO Cologne. It's not that bad of moving. All right. It's more about the food and the cleaning lady. Yeah. I don't know maybe the standard was just hired because everybody round about that time. That's the irony of it too. Is everybody was practicing free. Love you think you probably couldn't. It'd be like a a mild roadblock to anybody who doesn't want to share their bed with you for, you know, leave the dance floor and go make time in the alley. And then get back to boogie it. But I guess if you said, no, then that made you evil. There is there was witchy woman. They. Some power all. Yeah. Has Mallon Tena into her is there was share had a song called dark lady your best. I mean it never ended. There's all these evil gypsy women on woman crime to share did it. Yeah. Yeah. As did you get to see the pro football game last Thursday night. I feel like in a weekend of defining games may major games with playoff implications on both sides of things I feel like this happened. Sometimes in pro football that the two best off the top of my head the Niners Cowboys in the early nineties or the two best teams and they had to play each other before the Super Bowl Seahawks. Niners five six years ago where the two best teams and they had the play Steelers Oilers way back in the late seventies. And so on and now, I suspect or my eyes tell me fifteen weeks in the two best teams in pro football are in the same division. And they are the chargers and chiefs how say you. Well, the chargers are doing. Doing what they always do except for their finishing. No, they're always, you know, rivers running up the numbers, and they're slinging the ball around. And they're scoring touchdowns. And the former chargers would go all the way to the end, and then they would lose. Now, they're doing the exact same thing. They've always done except for the finishing. There's just winning at the end and I root for the chargers because I don't know if they're snake bit franchise. They've never I mean been been Super Bowl wants got beat by your Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, they beat the Steelers they upset the Steelers in three rivers and then right after that game the Niners picked off the two time champion Cowboys. They took care of them in the stick. And that's when Steve Young threw the six touchdown passes in the Super Bowl against the charge of the bigger guys beat ninety four ninety five ninety five we to get. To the Super Bowl barely survived Jim Harbaugh. Coach. Remember he threw the the Super Bowl. We didn't win. The cowboys. Cowboys featured Neil O'Donnell gavitt member. Neil O'Donnell gave it to Larry Brown rice. But twice they've the they've been to. That's right. So they've been to the super once and they got decimated. Okay. So rats their franchise, it's and it straddled by one of the greats Dan Fouts and that team I could make a pretty good case that, you know, the ninety eight Vikings fifteen in one, and there's some other teams that would be in this conversation, but that those charges for like three or four years with an Foulds and John Jefferson in west Chandler, and Chuck Muncie. And and underrated defense that's the greatest team that never even got to a Super Bowl. And they're snake bitten is actually sort of carried beyond the actual franchise because junior say, ow. Arguably the most notable charger, I mean, Dan Fouts, and there's a lot of a lot of names in there months guys guys you mentioned before but he top five for she played probably more seasons. You gotta look this up. Well, Gary's a fan. But I don't know how how old school. He goes, Dan Fouts was there. But I I would reckon that junior SAU played more years. Oh, I think you're right. I think sale got up near like twenty years by the time..
Big Game memories: 25 years later, Cals Lindsey Chapman recalls 4-TD day
"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Big-game memories. Twenty five years later. Cows Lindsay Chapman recalls four touchdown day by Steve kroner from sports to running back. Share the Cal record for touchdowns and big game with four Chuck Muncie. Did I and the bears forty eight to fifteen route at Stanford Stadium in nineteen seventy five the following year New Orleans selected Muncie with the third overall pick in the NFL draft he wound up spending nine seasons in the NFL. The man who tied his big game. Mark Lindsay Chapman didn't play a down in the NFL. But on a nineteen Ninety-three Saturday afternoon at Stanford Chapman put his name next two. As in the Cal record book Chapman carried twenty eight times for one hundred forty one yards and scored a TD in each quarter as the bears waltz to a forty six to seventeen victory. Cow had gone six seasons. Five losses and the final tie in the nineteen nineteen and nineteen eighty eight with. Thout holding the axe. That wasn't the only thing fueling Chapman against the cardinal. When asked this week about that victory a quarter century ago Chapman. I referenced the guardsman's luncheon, which took place at San Francisco's firm aunt hotel, the Wednesday before the game, the annual charity event brought together the head coach and a few players from each school MC, Bob Sarlat. A Cal alum typically took good natured digs at both teams. Chapman was one of the players representing Cal. And he admits heat didn't realize the luncheon was something of a roast still he thought Sarlat and Stanford head coach Bill wash went too far in maligning the bears one wash line. He said he didn't understand all the hoopla about the acts and that Cal can always go out and buy one, I left there pretty heated. I left that luncheon very very upset. It kind of set the tone Chapman said two years earlier Chapman said he and his teammates felt the same type of disrespect before they met. Clemson in the Citrus Bowl. He said the Tigers didn't feel that we were good enough opponent. Cal was good enough to beat Clemson thirty seven to thirteen I felt that same irritation. When I went at lunch and Chapman said and they were talking about us like that. And like, we weren't even in the room. So that was the fuel that fired at all the night before the big game. The bears were out there Palo Alto hotel. Chapman remembers go into a players only meeting and telling some of the bears offensive linemen that they didn't need to block their men. The next day. They simply had to get in front of them Chapman recalled saying because all you guys in here. I'm gonna put you on my back, and I'm going to carry us to the promised land. I promise you that promise kept Chapman scored his first touchdown on seventeen yard pass from quarterback. Dave barr. Chapman's final three TD's came on runs. After scoring the first touchdown second. Touchdown third. Touchdown. And even the fourth Chapman said, I just had a whole lot of pent-up anger inside of me. Thanks to Bill wash. I really really really wanted to make sure that we brought the axe back. Cal got the axe and Chapman got a different type of. Veneer that he's kept for twenty five years chunks of the Stanford Stadium field that he put in a plastic bag. He had grabbed those chunks in the bears postgame celebration the locker room was just effervescent Chapman recalls. Everybody was just hugging. All over each other. Dear Slater Chapman, got to meet Muncie. Their connection went beyond the cow, backfield Chapman grew up in Louisiana and was a fan of the saints. It was special to me to actually get a chance to meet him being a part of a cow family Chapman said Muncie died at the age of sixty in twenty thirteen Chapman lives in Oakland and works as the northern California regional safety manager for helix electric. He also coached running backs at Chevy college for the past four seasons. The victory over Stanford in ninety three gave Cal seven two four record the bears finished nine two four as they won forty two to eighteen at Hawaii the Saturday after the big game. And then humbled Iowa thirty seven to three in the inaugural. Alamo bowl Chapman. Ran for one thousand. Thirty seven yards that season. And by the way, he also scored four TD's in that victory in Honolulu.

"Allstate proud partner of calatlantic are you in good hands subject to terms, conditions and availability. Count. There's football eight. Got MC Morrison or on the left side outside the tight end on the Lucknow lineup. Fullback bought you might want to just give him the ball network. You're not gonna stop Melik McMorris very often at five eleven two hundred ninety pounds Cupper. He just got a power through the look at that look at that big horse. Eleven. Caja? Yeah. Look at that big horse rumbles to life. That I Don. He has a big horse. And of course, he's had some receiving plays this year. He's he's made big place for California. The guys I said the Joe is for a guy to ninety now he's got soft hands. That's usually that doesn't go to go pretty quick fee to creek. And that set up a forty yard field goal for Greg Thomas, which cut the saffir leader that point to ten free early in the second quarter the bears. I wore the day and on that drive. I guess that was that play the eighth straight fourth down conversion for their. That's a pretty good record. That's very good. Yeah. Well at any rate, we were recapping the statistics. And. Let's see I think we give the rushing total for Patrick. He's won sixteen for the day. The what's that put him on? Figured I wrote SE as he thousand again, he's got sixty four yards to go in the ballgame are down. I can't find it wherever I'm sorry. Yes. Sixty eight to go in the ballgame sixteen today. So you need sixty eight more to get to a thousand for the second. You're getting into our an elite club when you get to the thousand yard, Mark. I gotta do that. I was Jackie Jensen back in nineteen forty eight three years later, Johnny O chefs, and he did it, and then you had to go all the way up to Chuck Muncie in one thousand nine hundred seventy five to get another one. Now in the last twenty years, especially when Jeff Tedford was coaching. They had guys, of course, marshawn Lynch to Russell white is the only one to do it three years in a row, man. He was always fun. Okay. Let's go back to the sats. We gave rushing does. Chase garbage today was twenty two of thirty nine for one ninety seven and one on the air the two interceptions. One was just utterly sensational. Catch in the end zone. That's good a plays. You'll ever see by player in the secondary. Melodic Antoine was a great great catch Cupper. Yeah. It was seen make a better catch on that. That was phenomenal one hand. And as he's falling down and protecting it from the ground. That was remarkable. And Cal was driving remarkable interception for Stafford Caja Casella was eighteen of twenty nine very efficient two hundred thirty seven yards. One touchdown wasn't picked off and receiving JJ Sega Whiteside. You know, we knew all about him. He's been hurt this year. Five catches today. One hundred nine yards twenty two yards per catch. She just had a great day. He's really hard to stop them the big concern. And that proved to be the case scarlet they're running back. Three catches for fifty four one touchdown the screen, Pat. He's got the screen passes really hurt the bears screen passes really killed a bears today, and they were the old fashioned screens. There was what they call a slow screen where the guy slips out into the flap, usually the left flat and. I used to love that play. I was I was a big fan of the screen pass. And of course, in one thousand nine hundred eighty nine when they changed the rule that. Lineman can be downfield as long as the ball is caught behind the line of scrimmage that set the stage for the down the line screen and all the other screens that have come along. But the original screen is what we saw today from Stanford. Yeah, they read it very very well Cal receiving Jordan Dunkin and he's been injured and just came back last week against Colorado. We had five catches for fifty nine and a touchdown ways who got a touchdown last week had five more catches today. Patrick Lehrer is one sixteen rushing receptions, eight different receivers involved for twenty two catches on the day for the bears. We gave a total yardage. Just take a couple of the red zone. Stafford was four for four hard to beat that for three possession time. Thirty to forty two for the cardinal twenty-seven eighteen for California yen the turnovers. The big story Cal with three staffers. Just one cal- lost one. Fumble had the two hundred -ception sacks each team with. Three and four the bears. Whereas my foot car got a March somewhere Cupper if you got him there. Yeah. Here's a flip card. No. But yours might have the sexual. We had one for Lana Toyota and one four seven Paul and one more for Alex funches Evan Weaver led the bears with tackles today as he's just roll fifteen today. Six of them solo Jordan Kenosha had I think his tackle total the season only five, but it did have the forced fumble. And let's see pertinent sets a fumble recovery went to Aaron Maldonado. So the bears defensive certainly can't fault them today as turnover set up ten points for the cardinal and Stafford wins it by final of twenty three to thirteen more to come. We'll look at the scoreboard. Look ahead on the post game show against sanfer. Woods 2013. This is Cal football from learfield. I'm.

But we're gonna kick back people who are measured by championships through brief seems to break records every year but never win the Super Bowl. That's good. Roger has a great game. We praise them. They lose if somebody else's fault. Okay. My knowledge, and please stop me wrong. There's only three starting quarterbacks with multiple Super Bowl. Right. Ben Roethlisberger Tom Brady. And who else it's been rather burger Tom Brady, and you boy ally Manny. Manning stop the seventeen and no patriots. Hey old school. So all. Get to your question. Why didn't he win? He didn't win. I can't answer that. I couldn't answer it. I could answer it. He didn't have a defense. He had mocked super duper Mark lay in even Chuck Muncie at one time he couldn't win 'cause Don Shula. Navigate him. A defense, Dan. Fouts would Air Koryo Keller Winslow senior Charlie joining Chuck Muncie was on this quad to didn't have a defense. Okay. What has drew Brees ad in New Orleans? He had even two players. "The voice of the Broncos Dave Logan is at Arrowhead with our guys. Sports USA analyst Hank Bauer. Dave. Thank you. Mike, always great to catch up with a good friend. Hank bauer. I I don't know that I've seen you with me at a Broncos chiefs game before ever never. It's always been chargers chargers for how many years eighteen. You played with them for how many years played seven. Then I coached him four so forty nine years total twenty nine years total. Now, I'm flying commercial. It's tough. Now, you're. The biggest ways. Is it goes back to the discount for honestly, people don't have an idea of how good these guys travel? And I know that the Broncos voiced on everything first class, you know, because you always hear about the teams that might not. Always heard that the Broncos have been always great right travel. Chargers were great with their travel. Yeah. But but all of a sudden you go from TSA at the complex great on a bus go right to a charter. You've got a whole road to yourself catered meals. Whatever you want buses get you at the airport hotel, they handy room. Key you go to the stadium to go back. You never wait in a terminal right now, you're doing what other Americans do. It's sad. Sad. I never thought I'd see the day power had to live like the rest of I've become mainstream. Absolutely. So you you played in an era, and you played some of the great charger teams with with Dan Fouts that through it everywhere that had an explosive offense lots of weapons do you see not from a stylistic standpoint? But simply from an an explosive offense of standpoint, do you see similarities between this chiefs team in the teams you played on? You're the first person that has brought that up and I've been thinking about that all week. I watched this chiefs team, and I go, wow, they are a lot alike air coryell, the differences. We had a veteran quarterback who wasn't mobile, but but made up for the hall of fame Famer, Dan Fouts made up for with his mind in his heart. And he had a great arm and all that other stuff the intangibles. Yeah. But but the weaponry, you know, people forget that the chief can really run the football when they want to they can. Kareem hunt. It all starts and stops. The whole offense really is centered around the run and everything comes off of that. Whether it's cream hunt or the quarterbacks option, right and everything comes off of that misdirection or tyreek hill running the ball on these fly sweeps jet sweeps whatever you're calling them. So so, yeah, we had Chuck Muncie. We had we had some great backs by Dell Mitchell James James Brooks Brooks gosh. Who else? Do we have? I wasn't in that crew. But but but but Muncie, we have John capillarity at one point. We had a group of phenomenal backs. We ran a lot. But we had Kellen Winslow thing about this a little bit like Travis Kelsey. Yeah. And Gary athletic tight end, and you could split him out all the time and he's a match up nightmare because you can run like a wide receiver catch run patterns like wide receivers have the body could tall in the hands of wide receivers. But Callum was six six two hundred sixty five pounds Kelsey might be the same size or maybe even a little bigger. And then we had to hall of fame receivers. I mean, you know, we have well we had Callan and Charlie joiner, and that's not to mention west Chandler and John Jefferson at one point. So we had a wealth of of options a lot like Kansas City does. And I gotta tell you that when I went into coaching the hardest. The most surprising thing to me. Dave was it wasn't okay. When we did the game plan on a Tuesday, Monday morning early. And and it was sitting in there with Ernie's MP's, Ian, Don coryell in the masterminds. How are we going to score points against the raiders defense this week the or the great, you know, orange crush defense this week? It was okay. Only got two balls last week how we're going to get eight this week. It's managing egos keeping guys motivated. And that to me was it wasn't a matter. Where are we going to score? How are we going to score? We gotta keep we had a manage egos and just keep everybody happy, and I see Andy redoing a masterful job with these guys. Does a great job spread the ball around either to I'm a huge Andy Reid fan. We we've got about a minute. Gimme two things. The Broncos have to do on either side of the ball today to get out of here with a win. They gotta they gotta slowed down on offense. You gotta play keep away. The best defense is when the other offenses on the sideline that means run the ball or control passing game. And if you're gonna do that, you can't turn it over, obviously. So you're slow play the chiefs keep that dynamic off the field. And then you say, okay. Well, defensively do the same thing be conservative. Keep no I disagree with that. I say if you do it that way these guys. Have the talent the game breaking talent at every skill position including Mahomes. We didn't talk about that. They're going to hit the big play. Even if you slow playing play conservative plays zone, drop, whatever you could drop eight they're still going to break. Tackles outrun you with the angles. I say you got to be aggressive. I say you got to go after him take a chance on defense. Don't die a slow death. If you give up a seventy yard touchdown. Okay. Fine. You're slow play it and condense the clock and keep a close. And they give yourself a chance to win at the worst thing. You can do in Kansas City is what get behind early and get this crowd into it. Yeah. Are always into it any way you, and I both know that absolutely Kristie. Always great Hank Bauer. A.

"Let's get back to the phones at eight. Say ESPN Vernon. You'll obviously they talked to me. Very, even how are you today? Good man. Thank you. What's up? Just wrote a book called the Asterix is about NFL rule changes since the mid seventies. Okay. And I just wanted to get your take on the rule changes for two thousand eighteen. And also I think you'll copy of my book actually talking on hold on hold it. You can talk to my producer about sending you a copy. Sending me a copy of the book they'll take care of you off to end on is not the time to discuss that and turn to the rule trail in terms of the rule changes itself. I will tell you this. The biggest problem right now is the overprotection of the quarterback. They're taking the football out of football and I'm not gonna go so far as to say is flagged football. But the reality is is that even though modifications are the rule of the day, and we understand it happens in every sport to go to such extremes where you take it, you, you go to such excessive levels to rid the sport of exactly what may dispute popular. It's not about the players. It's. Not about any of that stuff. You know what that is that's about a league that didn't pay enough attention to it years ago when they could have because they wanted to keep money in their pocket. And now they want to avoid being sued all the damn time. So they're being over excessive in pursuit of basically inoculating themselves from any shrapnel of criticism that could come to league's way due to the violence that exists. They gotta do something about it, and then that's that. But I gotta go out predate the call. Thank you. Mark. You lava? Stephen, they talked to me. David, I appreciate the call and think you're one of the best to do. That's for sure. Thank you ma'am. Go ahead. Yeah. Well, quick question for you. I it's a very popular, but the Miami Dolphins, they wanna give Ryan to nail the hardest part. I think my opinion that it's more of an offeth alliance struggle just like for the giants because he like is great. Is that line? I was going to what you thought about this is the first of all. Let me say this to you. You're not getting. You're not going to call up to this show and let Ryan tannehill off the hook. Now I do understand your twenty-eighth offensively. Your thirtieth yards allowed to twenty eighth against for the past. You got a twenty second ranked rushing attack. It's nothing impressive. Offensively that's happening with this team and I get that. I understand it and I feel where you're coming from the flip side to it. This is Ryan tannehill. We're talking about here and when these e ever really done anything, right. I understand that prior to a couple of weeks ago when you got shellacked by the all New England, Patriots, Ryan tannehill was a guy that she had won ten straight starts with, but just look at his career. His career record is forty. And forty. Two. He's been in the league since two thousand and twelve. All right. When you look in terms of his passing yards and what have you looked man? He hasn't been awful, but he's not a game changer. If we're totally being honest with it, we got to be honest. This is a career. I mean careerwise he's got twenty thousand yards passing and how many years? Six, seven years come on. Now you know better, but but what you say that the strove adult under always been aligning always had injuries. I've never really interested. Well, listen. Let me ask you this question dolphins fan. Have you always been the dolphins fan? All right. Did you want to have Dan Marino? Did you once have him? We'll walk Lii in mock super-duper. You had Chuck Muncie coming out of the backfield. Right? You had no defence whatsoever, but Dan Marino certainly held it down Diddy. Sometimes you didn't have a running game. Sometimes you didn't have a running game. He was a stationary target. Couldn't move worth the lick, but somehow someway that quick release his cerebral. I mean, just just just his knowledge of the game of football. You know, I have once had Hugh Douglas who now does great radio in Atlanta by the way, once say to me that they walked up, the defense was so frustrated..

"I mean, come playoff, Tom. I don't know if you get away with that particular Li, if you gotta go to Philadelphia. On the road in Philadelphia and you gotta Fletcher Cox and branded grandma's those boys. Wait, if for you, if you have to our say this, Jeremy, if the road to the Super Bowl has to go to LA, I will concede Rams going to the Super Bowl, but if they got to go on a road put take Yuli an outdoor situation dome in Atlanta or New Orleans. But particularly in outdoor situation, preferably Philadelphia to a lesser degree. Chicago Green Bay. I'm going to be worried about the Rams Jeremy. I'm going to be worried about the Rams. I'm gonna leave you with one last name. Sure. They are playing. They are playing in what is not dome. Now I realize and beautiful Los Angeles. They're not playing much inclement weather, but they're not playing in a dome right now and they seem to be doing pretty good. I'm talking about the reason I bring up the absence of a dome because you know east coast, okay, they get cold and windy, and as a result of compromise your ability to run to throw the football and that is why brought up that implement weather, anything that's compromise your ability to stand back in the pocket and sling football is going to be bothersome for you as a football team, particularly wanna cuss them to warm weather. I give you this example to think about to sleep on Jeremy. Before I let you go member years ago, Air Koryo, Dan Fouts Winslow Charlie joined Chuck Muncie and those boys admin member, how potent offense was absolutely. They look, how did they look at AFC championship game when they had to go to Cincinnati against Kenny Anderson them saying, white codes, coach football teams, how do they look thin. They, they looked Rupp. I just think this Rams team on a whole different level. I appreciate you bring your bringing some stuff out of the hat. There that all saying that you was that them because see this like, listen, man, if you, you know, you might be Philadelphia, might be New York, something like that. Okay. If you were out in California tilling in sunshine, getting a tan every day, and then all of a sudden you win a blizzard. How would you be? It would be. And the thing is differently.
