Of course i'm sixty the other ones. I have two daughters all of them into their middle age. Now and i've got great grandkids. Which i oh. Jeez a lot of them. That'll be one day soon. Gil i want to ask dick about that painting behind him of buster keaton. Is that a painting. I'm looking at idea. There's a buster. Keaton and a stan. Lor and stan laurel the a friend of mine painted. I had a little a polaroid of stand sitting backstage in birmingham england. We and all he. What on tour there and friend of mine took it and made that great painting you know. I have the the blow bow tied to stanley me. I was going to get the derby and derby disappeared after the funeral. We haven't seen since somebody's got it. No he didn't ask him a million questions you know at one point on the dick van dyke show. We did Lauren hardy sketch. And i asked him to come down and you'll be technical advisor and he had a slight stroke which nobody noticed but he wouldn't come down so after the show was on there. I call them. So what did you think. He gave me like. Forty five minutes of notes. Oh gee now you're telling me. He had covering of paper clips he. He had taken the heels off his shoes to give him that stance in that walk and a whole onto things that he coulda told me before the show. And how did he. You know you always hear about these teams like abbott and costello martin and lewis. Who sounded like they hated each. How did he and ali get along a harley absolutely great. He thought he was the funniest man he had ever seen he. They got a long way standard all the writing. All the directing and ali like to play golf and he liked to be out by four so whatever they stand one would do that slow. Burn with a camera. You know them. He waited until then and told them. You can't play golf for awhile. And then they all the clothes but it was really pissed. Yeah that's like real method acting. Or yes he got an you know he's still had a little portable typewriter. You sat and wrote sketches for he and ali every day. He had boxes full of sketches. He wrote for for snl. I said oh but nobody ever found them. What i love to have those all the third guest. We've had dick that that. Look stan laurel up in the phone book. Tomlin at rice tom. Leopold is a comedy writer that we had on the show and your friend chuck mccann. I mean i think you're i don't know guess maybe five or six. Who knew buster keaton. Yes i got to meet. But he lived out in thousand oaks in a like a quarter of an acre. Oh he was very shy very shy. I went one sunday afternoon sitting with his wife. Eleanor and he kept walking around outside looking in the windows. And i said you know. Is he coming in. You'll be here fighter. He comes has got his hat on at a ukulele. And it's all mr. It'll go carolina moon. Won't you shine on right on. Sang a song for me and he. We're in the kitchen. I of course had a million questions as to when you put your foot up on a table then you put the other foot on the table and hung there for a moment before you fell. And he he did it for me in the kitchen. He must have been sixty five years old. He did that fall. And it's interesting like his way of communicating with you boys by performing. Yeah he would out in the back of his yard. He got a little picnic table and along the fence a railroad track. You had to sit at the table. He would make the hotdogs put him in a little toy train and to and that's great. That was buster keaton. He had a A handmade pool cue with the name on which he gave me. I have that memento.

Who is rebecca daughter voice by gianna michaels. Some other side characters are wildcat. Who is like the repair guy in the series and he's played by patrick barley. So the first episode are watched is called time waits for no bear. Basically what happens in the episode is that blue is well. He and the gang are hired to bring a box to a certain places certain time but balu is basically lazy in these episodes so he just was lazy and was late and because of that they lost their money. And well mrs cunningham got so mad that she ended up telling blue that he'd better not do it again and he said he would end so she gives him a new job of being a tour guide which he doesn't appreciate being tour guy before they begin. The tour wildcat found the box. And so blue is like we're gonna give the box to the people and they will give us our money but the best way for him to be in two places at once we can still do the tour for wildcat v the one who lies the plane so while wildcat is line. "Mary Wickes Margaret Hamilton. Bob, Denver a well. Yeah. Far out space nuts with Chuck McCann to just passed away. Yeah. I don't know if you said Bob Rae who is Anita. Bizarre. Yes. Yeah. We we always went after know Jim Nabors was break. So, you know, we always had these people in our shows, those kind of names attract the adults were employed to that kids. Didn't know they would. But the adults, you know, they lead the kids to the shows. Marred about I think there was brilliant. Yeah. Absolutely. Because they were familiar faces in all of this. Now land of the loss was a little bit different. And and every time I heard here, the words Marshall will and Holly, you know, I know, I know that FEMA phen- kicks in right away that that show was shall we always done to watch it. But I watch it now the special effects. We're just seeing the dinosaurs. They went through historic, but they want what they are today. Right. That's what the kids had. You know, I don't know we find out the more money you spend on the show. You can have more trouble tantrum. Watch your shows. They're looking at the story, and they're looking at the characters, and then that's really what keeps them on your on your show. There are a hundred places you could switch off too. It's true. You can watch them any time. Yeah. Know poor getting up the Saturday morning, your cereal than watching the shows, and then you've got into variety shows too. I mean, you know, I being Donny and Marie. Well, I was a big breakthrough for us. Yeah. Valid spreads Doberman and Mike allies were together at that time. It ABC day called us up one day. And they said, hey, we thought we saw two kids on a TV talk show. What do you think about doing that? And they said, luckily, you know, maybe we'll get Syria to do even though we hadn't done it before. And they did they put it on Friday night at eight o'clock ABC never had a Friday night have. Danica Murray bay there Friday night. So that was up I went in. So that opened this up the more those kinds of shows, and then we wound up with the Brady by Jolla. We wound up with you know, my bobber Benadryl. The minute gel system pink lady. Yeah. Thank lady, and Jeff, and we did we did Patti LaBelle that never got series NBC. So most of our shows, I think. This way, we did about twenty pilots in the life of our Claudia. We got eighteen seventeen work. So batting average is not bad. No. It's not it's not bad at all. And in all this, you know, and I and I read about this. And I want you to share this. Because when I was growing up in the seventies. You know, Saturday mornings were also filled with McDonald's commercials. And I always watched the McDonnell and characters and I thought to myself boy, this is really really really like the characters and the costumes that said mardi Kraft puts on their shows. And there's a story behind that. Because I went to my employers in LA. And I said, you know, what I think we should really sued that because they didn't really stood still. Hey, Sean puff and stuff. 'cause the hamburglar was which he pulled man machines was so they said, you're out of your mind. You're not gonna do that you're gonna get killed. So thirteen years later, we finally did beat them. And you know, that was that was a big big win for us. And not the money was just you know, that we were able to do that. And so that was really were attack. But didn't they didn't. Engage. You though, didn't they engage your company in the very very early stages about this. And then they went off and did it themselves, right? No. But I think at the time I think that they were given you know, I think that they didn't advertise on our shows for a while. You know, this thing happen Ray Kroc called Megan was found out here. Sex flags and he told me about this idea. And then they said, they weren't gonna do The next thing. I know I came back from Europe. I saw it on TV. So that's how this whole thing happen. Yeah. That'll do. Sure, they didn't want. And at that time, nobody ever, you know, whether the trial today or will advertise they got stories. So we were told not to talk about it. Prompts me mistake. But anyway, that was a leading copyright station in the world today. So don't shows. And also this this lawsuit decision. Yeah. Which is every college kids as those the law school studies in this case. Well, here's the thing. Nope. No one really sues. Mcdonald's and wins. So good for you on that one late years later in the eighties. And I was found this to be fascinating Canaan priors. Good. By the way, going back to McDonald's. You can see if they do. I no. Did bother now back in eighty four you guys launched Pryor's place in for the reputation that Richard Pryor had not to mention, of course, being a brilliant. Comedian to headline at children's show was such a bold move and the guests on that show. And I was pretty you know, I was in high school by that point. But I found it so fascinating that was doing a children's show. I was watching it. And I remember Sammy Davis being on there and Robin Williams and lily Tomlin and get one Emmy's. It only lasted for thirteen episodes. Why why didn't it continue? I thought that was a really interesting show America. We got that many, Richard. Yeah. Lois they him. And he was you know, he said he would do it that he said he didn't wanna do it. He would do. It is a matter of fact one day already building two hundred and fifty thousand dollars worth of sets. He came to the studio live is the warrior who actually was on lawyer at one time when he was head. And he said look a lot of this show. I said look I got two hundred fifty dollars in the set. She said, that's okay. You know? Ship has a checking his pocket. I'll write you a check. Fifty thousand dollars. I said Richard could you please take a walk? Let's make the next thing was he said he would do it in a final story about this as which was like real tough to do this every night. I would talk to them and not about the show. He wanted to do a press conference. He was starting up a new black stone company. He asked me to organize the press conference. I'd say racial, I don't do this. He said, no. But I trust you. I did I hired my trash Asians to do it. And there was a woman from the New York Times. They're asked him a question. He she said why did you do this show Russia because you're paying backpage the havoc your cars because no Juno? Mighty cross. She said, no, well, if you knew you would say, yes, immediately and get them the hell out of the road. It's awesome. Oh, that's great. The major town of all time. He was and he was really a nice person. He was a great person. He just had a lot of challenges, you know. So who's a pro we did two thirteen shows, and he shed mardi. Sorry. I don't wanna do anymore. Yeah. Yeah. It was an interesting show. And of course, you guys just you know, again, you keep rolling muffed mutton stuff as you mentioned on Nickelodeon. My five year old love that show, you rebooted Sigmund and the sea monsters on Amazon and finally a lifetime achievement award from the television academy, and I truly believe what I saw it. So happy for you guys. 'cause I I really feel like it was a long time coming, but how wonderful is it that to be recognized for lifetime of workload hours grade. You know, we did good. This was a what we found that we were getting it. Of course, that's you work all your career. So that's your peers, you know, again, giving it that award and the night we got it was great. These award shows of Louisville. So we were the home run the award show 'cause you know, we showed a great clip of our careers. Sure. My brother went out for an hour and a half and told them how yourself. And then I did two minutes. Doc byproduct. Tiny. You know? And it was it's a great thing. So now, we have an end. These we've been nominated for the not us. So this is really the first award should brought to you crossed. I'm so happy for him. And congratulations on all that let me tell you all I did was posted an image of puffins stuff on Facebook to say that you were going to be joining our show this weekend. And of course, eight billion people reacted that this was the best show ever. And I mean, it's just it's just great. When you think about that show is almost fifty years old, and it's still invokes that type of excitement and that type of memories by people that grew up with all your programming. Well, I can have a mission for years with the we have about forty million fans. So you can say you're out a way to get a hold of each one dollars. France, never come back. Chen took Tom Burs urine Tom version on was on the show. And he told us that wouldn't he was a little kid. He looked up both Larry and Moe and visited them. Yes. They were acceptable their accessibility. And I it's I think back to I remember on Hollywood Boulevard. Like, I said you'd see Hans hall. You'd also see Aldo Ray waiting for a bus. And believe me he wanted somebody to recognize him. And he was thrilled. We used them on Fridays. We would sometimes find these guys pretty down out of Hollywood Boulevard and put them in a sketch on Fridays. I lived in LA for a decade. And it was one of the great sports when you had you had days to kill. And yet nothing to do is you'd go to the farmer's market and run into the guys like Louis. Gus remember Louis Gus? These people and feel compelled to run up to them and currency that you knew who they were. Well, I was thinking on the way over here about comedians that we we know all the great comedians. Have we could all probably give the same four five Greek comedians. But I started thinking about comedians at only we might know at this point guys like Morty cunty, you know, who are who are like kind of popular, you know, who's a very influential comedian..

You were too young to remember what Gilbert I remember, which was the Chuck McCann show. And he was one of those classic Kinney show whole all of them that where like the show was made for ten cents and any odds and ends they found they made a character out of it. Yeah. He was great. He was great one of the founders of sons of the desert. Yes, the laurel and hardy organization did a lot of stuff, and he was well known for the right guard commercials showed the right guard commercial during the sag awards the other night in memoriam of all the things to show when you have Chuck McCann in memoriam the guard. And he was in turn on the infamous Jordan that show that was canceled wallet was traveling the country from New York to Los Angeles during its first broadcast, and I heard they was like a party where they were celebrating and the middle of this celebration, they found out they would take of God did they just turn off the lights? And what was what was the movie that check McCann played a mute, tore the heart is a lonely. He's very good. Yeah. Based on the book, he's very good in that picture. He's also good in a little movie called the projectionist which Rodney Dangerfield, which people can. Find that. He did a lot of stuff he did animation. He he was a great Oliver hardy. He he was in far out space nuts. I said Marty show and cooking for cocoa puff, correct? Correct. He's on the first family album. Oh anyone. Did anything and showbiz show? We're always beating ourselves up about the people. We don't have. And we we occasionally have to take a bow for some of the wonderful people that we did book, especially people from our childhood like Sonny, FOX and Chuck. Yeah. That's that's a that was a treat to have him. Let's let's quickly get to a couple of directors. And now he's still alive, thankfully. But it's so funny Sonny FOX after he did the show. He he called up and he said once that show going to air, and we said, I don't know a couple of months, and he goes, here sooner..

"Instead of the civil war. What you'd see is this in this black and white New York, so romantic these like taxi lights and the an skyline or something? And it just like it's still gives me the chills, and I think it was the channel five news that used the music from cool hand, Luke. That's actually, very good. That's from seven, but cool. Yes. Did they didn't think anything yet for the news? Then you watch cool hand, Luke, and it sort of ruins those mobs shore. Wait, why the plane then? Max Steiner that that towers theme that gone with the wind. Maybe not certainly not the cool hand. Luke, probably Jerry, King Kong thing. I'm guessing it was him. I might be misspeaking was the one who Bette Davis said in dark victory. You know, she said look at the end when she goes up because look either I'm going up that staircase or max is going that staircase. Like just the idea then she knew exactly what he would do as as she was going staircase. Speaking of kitty show host. We also had truck McCann here. Yeah. Man that I met tell me about that. Because that's interesting. Well, I you know, I sort of itemized him even as a little kid. I could appreciate the quality that sort of improvisational quality of every day coming up with this stuff. No. And putting these little white discs in your saying little or finance, and there's a theme song are a nanny never had a mammy was something little girl with hair. I remember Jake trae see he was the the law gig trays. He had a dog, John. Do what he say timed crime cousin never pay. There's a lyric shock was working hard. But that stuff out, but he I just I my my parents had a house on insult there and fire island when I was little and somewhat. There was a McCann family out there and on one magical summer weekend this yacht pulls up to our dock not a yacht type doc and not only is it a yacht. It's Chuck McCann's yet. So there was Chuck McCann. You know, it was it was a thrill Allen all the came to this little little town in nineteen in the midst of the mash thing, I heard interview great thought of that. And I just thought he he LAN he got off the ferry boat. And from the moment he got off the ferry boat till two days later when he got on the ferry boat. Everything he did. There was thirty five people saying Ellen old is gonna play tennis L all this. Four. Well, he's got a weird relationship with that kind of celebrity as you would because you know, we we mentioned on the show. He was his face was more recognizable students than a may Lincoln which disturbed him deeply the guy. Couldn't do anything. Yeah. He couldn't did you attend a recording of Chuck McCann was that. So this is Earl down this limit. Yeah. This could be this with this show. It's actually I think it's very interesting actually when when I was. We can talk about Allan Sherman because that's like a massive influence, but even so even as a little kid, I would hear on Sherman, and you know, sort of be fascinated by it..
