"April 13th, 2023, welcome in this early morning midnight hour with this glad you're with us. I'm dean lane. Alicia abelson is our producer. Among the top stories we're following for you on WTO key. Breaking this morning, we're learning more, apparently about the man who leaked highly classified Pentagon documents and shared them with a small group on the messaging app known as Discord. According to a new Washington Post report out this week, this group was made up of roughly two dozen members and were united by their love of guns, God and military gear. The post spoke with a member of the group who says they revered and looked up to the man behind the Lake known by some only as OG. When members would have issues like mental health crisis, OG and other members would help them out, there was stuff like family issues like religion issues that he would always help us out on and he was always very charismatic and had a good willpower to get us through these situations. And he really helped all of us. Washington Post intelligence and national security reporter Shane Harris, one of the reporters who broke this story says this morning, the man worked on a military base, but his exact identity is still this hour unknown. To have access to the information that he appears to have taken, he would have to have a top secret or better clearance, which is not to say that he couldn't. Many people in his position might thousands of people, in fact. So we don't precisely know what his job is, but it seems to give him access to a lot of this rich material. The fact that he took photographs of the documents could speak to some ability to obscure the images on them. At the same time, when we talked to people who were part of this group, they said he started posting documents because originally he had actually been hand typing and copying documents that he brought home. And it appears that it was just easier and faster to take pictures of the documents themselves and drop those into his server. Double DT will be a 1233 Thursday morning. Turning to page after saying he planned locally to continue working, the Frederick county, Maryland sheriff, chuck Jenkins, now says he will take some time away from the department after all. This coming this week after he appeared in a federal court in Baltimore yesterday, Wednesday afternoon. On charges he faces an a scheme to illegally acquire machine gun. A longtime sheriff, chuck Jenkins is accused of using his position to help a local gun shop owner and Frederick Robert kromp acquire machine guns that he would then rent to the public in court Jenkins pleaded not guilty to the 5 charges against him which include making false statements and conspiracy, one point of contention was whether Jenkins should have to surrender his guns, which prosecutors say is standard for the release of someone facing charges. Lawyers for Jenkins claimed he needed his weapons to protect himself since he's received death threats in the past, the judge wasn't swayed and left the condition in place. Several hours after the hearing, the sheriff emerged from the courthouse. Do you have any comments? I have no statement. Thank you. You didn't say much here, but in a statement he says he'll take a leave of absence later this week and that'll last until the end of the judicial process, he had previously stated he planned to work while this played out. "Of the trump immigration policies with executive orders and the like, And we wanted to get reaction here this morning from one of our favorite law enforcement officers, Sheriff Chuck Jenkins, Frederick County Sheriff. Good Morning. Welcome back to the show. Good morning. I want to play for you in exchange and then get your reaction to it. This was yesterday at the White House. Fox News is Peter Doocy questioning White House press secretary Jen Psaki on the deportation of criminal illegal aliens knew for anything nice eyes going to get some new guidance to no longer focus on deporting illegal immigrants who've been convicted of dy simple assault solicitation, drug based crimes, among other things. And I'm curious how that is in the interest of public safety. Well, first, it's guidelines that would be put out by the Department of Homeland Security and I'd certainly sent to them. They have a confirmed secretary. Now, But the priority for the enforcement of an immigration laws will be on those were opposing and national security threat, Of course, the public safety threat And on recent arrivals. Nobody is saying that do you rise or salt or acceptable hate behavior and those arrested for such activities should be tried and sentenced as appropriate by local law enforcement, But we're talking about the prioritization of who is going to be deported from the country. Sheriff. Is this good crowd and government going to deport anybody? I've got one word. This is very dangerous, Dangerous for America Dangerous for the public What She's saying. The parameters are very loosely defined, and I happen to believe that the public has never really going to know. Isis effectively been functionally dismantle at this point. Sheriff, if I might We talked yesterday on air about people coming from south of the border. They're released into this country because I've supported control can't hang on to him. And they never get tested for whether or not they're contagious, not just with covert, but with any of another host of illnesses that have been addressed and Basically eradicated in this country. No. This further plays into the threat on public safety doesn't It does Listen, public health goes hand in hand with public safety. We know that first of all, we don't know who's coming into this country. We don't know what kind of conditions they come from what their health is. What their criminal histories are. They're allowed to violate our borders on those borders are gonna be wide open so there will be effectively. No border enforcement with ice standing man are being told to stand down. There will be no interior enforcement. So the criminals people who violate our laws are going to be running with impunity through this country is going to be devastating to our communities, our counties in their cities. Sure if we see a return to catch and release, which the Trump Administration had pretty much put an end to on now that that's back. And these, these notices to appear. We find out that frequently. In fact, there's a very high no show rate for illegal aliens that are caught released and given notice to appear correct. That is correct. And sometimes those hearings air years out. They never show up. As a matter of fact, the failure to appear rates probably eyes high as the high eighties. The 90 some percent on we know that the courts know that This administration. Those Let me say this on and The numbers tell it all. So we've been working closely with ice and Frederick County for 12 years. Very effective to 87 G program. We've taken criminals off the street. We remove those criminals from our country is the workings of ice. They're law enforcement, men and women who have a mission to do They have a job to do. And over the 12 years we have removed roughly 1750 criminals from our streets. We have reductions in serious crime for seven consecutive years. So that tells the story In a nutshell. Talking with our friend Marconi Sheriff Chuck Jenkins, Sheriff. Great story and right, where it this morning Within one hour of this past Thursday, agents in Mission, Texas. Encounter back to back groups and arrested 253 illegal aliens. With the end of one hour. Now, this is a rather sharp escalation of people trying to get into this country outside the law than we saw during the last administration. Is it not? It is very much so you know, President Trump was right on the mark. His policies were working. We saw the numbers of entry illegal entries. ATT's edit decline, We saw the number of criminal deportations increase. So you know, this administration is clearly out to undo. Every accomplishment of President Trump. A scar is his immigration policies and it's going to be detrimental of this country is the true sheriff. It is just not American communities and law abiding citizens are at risk here that Immigrant communities themselves. Air now put it risk because a lot of these people coming over or have criminal histories in their native countries or our gang's infiltrating this country. That's very much correct. So the community's most at risk are the immigrant communities. They're the most victimized by the criminal gangs. The criminal element. Yes. What you're going to see is a huge increase. In the number of criminal gang members coming across because again we don't know who's coming into this country. They're certainly not identified are vetted and every single case where ice makes a decision on whether or not to remove that individual. Is not only based on the crime they committed here, but the crimes they may have committed or did commit prior to entry. So it seems that this administration then is giving The full rights of citizenship. Two individuals who are coming to this country illegally. In other words, if you break into the country illegally, even if you shot somebody south of the border while you've not committed a crime here, so Ollie Ollie oxen free That's pretty much great. Yeah, pretty much. It's a wide open. It's wide open. There's gonna be no enforcement. You either have laws that you know in that walls again..

"Little bit about the Super Bowl and the Bruce Springsteen in particular coming up in a bit Ondas little bit more on the on the impeachment nonsense, too. It's nonsense. But it is an opportunity for the presidents who could make a case through his attorneys, and I hope that he does. I hope that he does so well. We'll talk a little bit more about that coming up in a bit as well. Right now we're joined by Maryland's sheriff, and technically, it's just Frederick County. But I think he speaks for most Marylanders here when it comes to law and order and keeping our neighborhood safe and really utilizing the law. To do that. Imagine that Sheriff Chuck Jenkins of Frederick County joins us now share Jenkins. Thanks for joining us, sir. Thank you. Very good to hear from me. Well, listen, I know that you you worked very closely and continue to try to work very closely with ice officials with Homeland security and those law enforcement officials at the federal level who were charged with enforcing our immigration laws, especially against criminal aliens who have come to this country illegally and then broken further. Laws, even violent criminals. Can you give us an update on where things stand right now with that relationship now that there's a new president and apparently a new policy Well, the relationship of ice, which has been going on for about 12 years, now is absolutely great. It's been It's been a great program. Great relationship. However, I believe what Biden has done right now to his directors and orders basically functionally put ice out of business. I think basically he's dismantled it. And I don't know how effective it's going to be any more. If it all I'm really afraid of where we're headed here, Larry. We're headed for a dangerous place. Now where you is that based on what your projections will be based on what his executive orders were in the first week of the presidency. Where you already seeing some very real, uh, repercussions of those same executive orders. No, that's based on what I'm hearing what I've seen when I read right now. Nothing has changed. But then also because of the whole covert outbreak of pandemic. We've seen the reduction in arrest over all this for the most part of the year and also our housing program device. We're now housing anybody right now. What was that right? And is that because you you've got no one from ice. They just sort of cut that off. Well because of the code with the general population of ice inmates started should last February march, And then we finally made the decision. The numbers were so low I school they're inmates out and probably put him out on the street on on ankle bracelets. So We haven't housed anybody since probably about last April. So now based on the rhetoric that we've seen over the last couple of years, and that that appears to have made its way into the Oval Office, now or at the very least in the president's Cabinet, and certainly with the vice president, Kamila Harris, this whole idea of abolishing ice and and no deportations, even for criminals of the president tried to put through and and other Political positions that they have voice. How is that talk us through what This will mean to the people of Frederick County. When you try to do your job to keep them safe. Well, what this is going to me, Larry. First of all Over the past years that I worked with lice I've seen so many other local and state agencies refused to cooperate, refused to work with lice. So that in of itself has been a huge problem. Now the distant ministrations has says We're gonna abolish ice or they're not going to abolish size. What I think they will do is basically water down the program and basically make ice and effective functionally and then probably reduce the size of the agency overtime to attrition. What this is going to mean that not only Frederick County is you're going to see increased crime, increased gang activity. You're going to see crimes against Americans against immigrant communities. You're going to see this whole thing blow up and I think it's gonna be disastrous. We really instantly Go ahead. No, no, please finish your thought. So my thought, is this When you look at what's going on? You need both border enforcement, which we're not gonna have. You need the interior enforcement of the immigration laws by ice, which we aren't gonna have, And so therefore you're not gonna have anything at all that this is in America. Last view of things. I really believe that this is not Americans. First. This is Americans last and Larry. Let me tell you, the President Trump's administration was so pro law enforcement Law and order the rule of law. And now this is the exact opposite. Yeah, I fear that as well and we're certainly seeing a manifest in these early executive orders, sir and Sheriff Jenkins that Are we going to see in Frederick County? Now? This sort of revolving door of you know you're arresting people. And And normally if they are here illegally, and there's a detainer out them for their deportation, you would house them You'd hand them over the ice and they'd be properly you know, processed and eventually made, you know to go back to their home country now, are you You're basically going to have to release them out under the streets just you know, T o commit the next crime. Exactly. That's effectively what will have to do because containers won't be enforced. They won't be removed. So let me give an example. So and I can cite this from Eric cases here in Frederick County, violent crimes child rape sentences that was potentially cannery many years in prison. So let's say an individual gets a sentence of 10 years for raping a young child. Okay. All suspended for six months. They serve six months in jail and none of the previous administration. That person would then be deported by ice. So now that person's gonna be cut backwards onto the street. So it kind of makes it hard for you to do your job. Sheriff Jenkins. I would think, uh, is there Is there any remedy that the people of Frederick County can do? Or maybe the governor I mean, last I heard from the governor and I asked him on this program is position on these sanctuary counties, and he absolutely believes that the county should follow federal law and they should cooperate with federal authorities. Can the governor intervene on something like this? But Larry, the governor can make it happen, but hasn't made it happen. As a matter of fact, right now in the Maryland Legislature,.
