"I'm sorry if if we could get a latte from win Christus talking those that's my Internet I don't know what's happening. With it, we're going to continue talking about basketball. But. I don't happening. Whatever Hopefully. It sounds good. I'll listen to later. The So the NBA actually did used to kind of do the same setup that the WNBA has. And then careens Lakers lost one year and the NBA was like ooh. We're. GonNa Change Because they hurry Kareem's big money together so they want Jose. So I don't do it now. I would vote for this as well. I. Think all your points through I just want a little bit more just a little bit more playoffs, but we can have what forgot the time. At the least Gimme a second round series I get if you want make the first round like a wildcard but I I would vote for that ballot initiative. Okay. The next one. Christie cat. Would you vote to expand the WNBA by two teams? That's Like now, like today today or is this like you? Terrific? Today. where? I like it where it is right now. Okay and that's not to say. You know less than five years expanded to two more games. I. Think there's there's so much more leverage now marketing wise, I think you know the the is that were on the League, the summer and the bubble I. Think I think that was great for for marketing players and the League. Went to vote at on my power of women shirt for the WNBA and I had a gentleman come up to me and say, Hey, you know what? I'm not a huge basketball fan but I love what the NBA Wmba stand for and you know I just think that you know the The visual. Support. That was gained this summer by the League. I think was was very necessary but I think if you try to jump the gun and add two teams right now, it might not be a good time for that. I just think that you know the NBA didn't add every. You know very often either when they added a teams like Charlotte Toronto and all these things I get that but they didn't do it quickly. They didn't do it. You know rashly they you have to think things through and I think most definitely there's enough. Talent across the. The World I, was gonNA say across the United States but across the world to fill another two teams WNBA no doubt about that but I just think right now I think there's leverage to be gained, and then once you have that that gain leverage. Then add two more teams in and then after you gain more leverage that then continue to. Know for a now. I agree. So you think though right now I, I, agree with that for right now now are lat long. As connection is continuing to be unstable keep getting a message saying my internet is unstable Would you vote? To increase the WNBA roster size from twelve to fifty. So. Each team gets fifteen players. Wow. I would like that I think right now and I think with the new CBA you know where the? The finances were increase in a lot of extras where were given to two each team. I think that would be kind of more of a viable possibility than gained than adding two more teams and as we said, you know there's definitely the talent base. You know you could definitely fit more players on. Your team in terms of their skill sets and what they're able to bring as pros. I would say, yes to that one. I agree I think I'd say sound and that gets us to a point where we're having more talent in the league but we're not kind of. Bringing in new teams when I think it's a bit too early to bitterly I. Agree With You Okay. There's all my my ballot initiative is have any you'd like to propose. Oh Man. I think I'm good. He did a great job with that. Gave that was fun. That was about I thought about today. I. Was like Oh. That's a good. That'll be. So I think I. Think we got we have our president and vice president or best. Once you punch WNBA we have. Our Senate. Candidates. which. and then we have our ballot initiative. So we're going to give a playoff series in. The first and second rounds and we're GONNA have more roster spots so we made real change. Fake world. No I love it. All right. Hey, gave you know it has always. To, sit courtside with you my friend and we look forward to catching up with you guys courtside on the next episode here on the her hoops stats podcast network. "Am Christy Winters Scott, and as always joined courtside with a box of popcorn. Gabe Ibrahim is also here to have this great conversation today and Gabe. There is so much. More to talk about than basketball as we are speaking at this moment. Yup It is Wednesday a couple of hours ago the Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, announced that just one of the three police officers. Who Shot and killed Brown Taylor in her home as she slept will face charges and that officer Hankinson is was indicted on three counts of first degree wanton endangerment. I have not had a chance to look at. The Kentucky Law, but that is not murder and it seems like. The grand jury indicted him for Watson. Leash. Shooting into the walls of the apartments. Next door to Brown Taylor no one's actually being held. Accountable for her murder. This is as you mentioned much more important the basketball this is the reason we played the season. The the her name on the back of every WNBA Jersey twos the stated reason as to why we those players went to the bubble widely sacrifice so much and now we're seeing that you know I'm not sure I'm not sure Justice was. An option. for for Briana Taylor because. On I get you can't get justice for being murdered in your home as you slept but. Bill is what we were asking for and she didn't get that You know we know that on the HOOPS podcast network. He has only hit here basketball. But. We have to. Have talked about this I think it's extremely important I want to get your thoughts and feelings on the Christie. Will first of all, you know I am flabbergasted and once again, left without any answers for our three teenagers as to why it's not justice for all. I. It's just incredibly. Incredibly infuriating. When that can happen and be excused I don't get it. You know there are ramifications and accountability for everyone for everything else and just. Never seems to be any. Justice. They're just never seems to be any justice for all and for me, it makes me sick and it just it. It's I mean it just feels like you're knocking your head up against the wall. When you know you knew that the decision was going to come down or You know you're going to get some kind of clarification onto as to what happened at one fifteen today on Wednesday and. And then to hear that that was what they said that they're were like, oh, sorry for disturbing you the neighbors of Brianna Taylor but no word on. The actual murder of Brianna. Taylor. While she was asleep in her home I, mean how? Tragic. Is that news today I. Mean, I, have my shirt on today say her name and I, you know how many more times we're going to say her name. How many more times are we going to say other people's names before we see a true change. And respect as human beings in the streets for all of us, it's not just well, you can walk down the street, but you cannot like I i. don't know how to explain that to my kids. Like it just doesn't make any sense. And Nino commonsense sometimes I know isn't common but my God. There has to be something. There has to be something that. That can change and and make better for the next generations behind us because this is silly. And this is insane. And Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting something different in here we are sitting in the same insanity over and over again we sit and watch this. Atrocity after atrocity and people's homes doing nothing. And I it. Just I mean Rica take the whole time talking about this far as I'm concerned. But I, just I am beyond frustrated I am beyond infuriated. I. Am beyond just miserable about how this can continue to happen. Without any. Legal Accountability on the lives of. People of Color. Out here. Who are just assumed guilty. Or assumed I just assumed that that you're doing something wrong because you're walking or because you're sleeping because you are you know you have skittles in your hand let's just take him out I just. I am just I am done with it. I. Am done with it. Gabe. It's. It's. It's a lot in it's bigger than ball and I know we're on the her hoops scat stats podcast network and I know the right in the thick of the. WNBA in the NBA. Playoffs in. Man. Listen. This is so much bigger than than basketball might it's also a microcosm of what basketball stands for the unity and the diversity and inclusivity. Of Justice and fairness and accountability. And you know to see that not transfer into real life. Has a problem for me I. I mean my knees shaking I I'm like. I I'm emotionally spent this afternoon just thinking about that and her family and how they must be feeling I didn't know Brianna Taylor but I know her story and I know. Stories of so many that were honored before every single WNBA game this year. and. You know it's just a shame. Say Her name. Initiative. You I know it's there but it's it's just. You, know what more can we do? That's how I feel I feel like. If this is if this can't be a clear cut case, then what more can we do? To change not only the narrative but change the way human beings are viewed. That have different color skin like. That's where we are made. That's where we need to. To get the clarification because that's Clearly where where some people?.

"You know it's impressive what they're doing an ask. Christy winters, Scott said, right they've still got coach Tiba. Yeah I'm Beden, very impressed with them. I think I'm hasn't until I think they're so much better than we thought maybe there's like. I'm less impressed. SEATTLE. If that makes sense like chuck, Seattle's underperforming a little bit from what I expected them to. So that was part of today but domestic certainly also overperforming. SEATTLE. underperformed over all three games are just tonight. Well they beat the links which I thought they played decently. They've been turning the ball over rely I mean that they didn't look like they didn't come out and dominate New York on opening day and I expected them to come wipe the floor with New York on opening day really New York. They're not good right now I've been lost a Dallas pilot like twenty points, thirty points last night, and that's and. That was with Sabrina putting up like thirty. So insulated an advocate against Seattle. Also part of me thinks that. Maybe, Seattle, not as good though unlike, but the link. Doesn't that good but now I'm sitting here watching links are up ten on Chicago, which has good. So basically. Recording? Before that game ends because I think I have Chicago. After we the first game, I still had Chicago's number one in my personal power rankings. Make sure we finished recording before that game and oh, no way. Well, there's only So I don't know about that. So yeah no, it's it's wild right? Any given any given Sunday on Any given eight PM Eastern slot. But yeah, there it is pretty No. I. The wings did not did you say the wings were winning by Tan Liberty did close to bring that game to within thirteen? I believe so but nevertheless, right like it wasn't like you didn't really have a feeling I don't think like the. Wings. Sabrina was going off in that liberty game that was unbelievable I think I tweeted out at one point that she has like I wanna say forty eight percent of the points that the liberty and scored. So just another impressive performance but I fear that's going to be the future of the liberty. It'll be interesting to see their next game is against the dream tomorrow night at seven eastern. So it'll be interesting to see if they can get their first win of of the season the first win, of Sabrina career all those rookies career and coach Hopkins against the dream but according Williams's back right so. But it's first. Nobody knows right? That's the beauty of it. All right. That's all you play the Games. But yeah, it'll be pretty surprising both Washington and Chicago I'm sorry both Seattle in Chicago USA next I thought that I was impressed by that Chicago win over the we haven't talked but over the weekend against the aces that beautiful hammer play that Richard I think Richard Hi. Yeah. He highlighted today in his. Article the W dozen which I would encourage everybody to. Well, I thought. I thought that was a really fun fun article. Yeah I think that it's going to be a wide open season. I, think there's you know what? A probably a group of four or five teams that are on a contending for the championship probably. Yeah. I guess. So who are you putting in that group and I would say Chicago, SEATTLE. Washington I. Guess Maybe I. Don't know. After this week maybe wash. It says. I feel like people had Phoenix that group I. Think I'll take a Phoenix I. Don't know. Sparks I. Think of the other natural against spikes, but they've lost two. They lost to Chicago. Right, which is again right. I mean that's about right Chicago Ace's game. It's like a two point game. Like they're about the same right. They're both clearly in the top tier and I wouldn't think that the number one team should be able to consistently beat the number. Either the number fourteen ring. In League by twenty points, right you'd expect it to be close game. Yeah. I don't think Chicago Elliott was close. So I don't everything's jumbled. There's too many once and some people are encyclopedic remembering that I absolutely am not. So the person that. We could talk about that some other time. But Rod Thorn NBA Executive was with the seventy six when I was there he was unbelievable about his ability to just kind of remember like every play in a game and play a game from you know ye decades ago. So I am definitely not that not that person but I will say, I do remember the end of that Washington Connecticut Game and you are a son fans maybe we should talk about that what are you feeling about the Sun Right now? I mean I feel like them listening to Washington was like I feel like there are two teams that in the beginning of this, here's an onsite the probably at a similar level considering where they were last year the changes in the roster. So I don't think them losing to Washington shocking I was fairly surprised that they lost the Minnesota. That upset from a bigger Yukon. Fan and it was like crystal Dangerfield the collier down the stairs for the links. So Tartar it against that but. I. Thought that was a surprising loss for them like maybe Minnesota's formed a little bit what people would have thought. They would have been at I mean their bidding this guy right now. So make sure coach yeah. It's like everyone's talking about them got affective showery long and maybe Marianne, family is the most valuable player for. The I guess that go the other way but. You know she's another person is missing from the mystics lineup, for last year. So yeah. I don't know Connecticut I. Think has some Probably Chemistry issues off the bat start with a lot of new pieces they're figuring out. You've got old pieces that start last year that are starting the new pieces as well as so I think there's some figuring out to. Figure, some things to figure out there but. Yeah. UNIMPRESSED WITH THEM THE STAR l think we'll see what they do against the sparks tonight. So that'll be another data point once this comes out but yeah, I mean I do think it's easy to be down on them right now. But the reality is that they almost one that mistakes game they you know they had to lay ups at the end that they miss when they. Were you know effectively down three I think the strategy would have been a little different if they had the first one because mystics rate gave up a layup when they were down three at the end but nevertheless hit those do shots you're GonNa win the game and so and then the other game right? That was the one I don't think it was the mystics game that. And Thomas scored like all the points right who which was that you remember I think that I think. Six game. Yes oh I, don't know that I believe that they're going to. have to rely on them quite that much right like the rest of their team starts playing a little bit better than that's GonNa be a big help. I think Jasmine Thomas has struggled her shot little bit in the first two games that I don't see that being consistent problem for them. She'll figure that out in that'll be a huge advantage for them. And then I think I've been impressed with Brownie Jones at the center of our kind of a new role for her but wishes against Emma on. The Washington game, which is interesting match up her first game. She comes out she's not starting. You're starting center for the Sun. Now, while says, Thurston does starting federal your first matchup is Sylvia foul so That's some pretty hard card draw. So I think I've been impressed with her in terms of taking on that role of our what have we gotta hide him and always love watching play she so fast really gets the room. Yes. Yeah actually I thought that was a Lotta. Fun In their opener while against Minnesota because you had quite a bit of crystal inner field minutes in the second half was also such fast point guards at the two of them kind of its. Small fast, point guards..

"Last year for them. But I think with the wrinkle of adding a player like WanNa. Bonner I think that's so intriguing to see how she is incorporated their system there. Obviously a little bit of a different system. that. That she played at Phoenix, you know. especially with having Greiner. So I think with. With, who Connecticut has I think it's really going to be fun to watch XC how they? Yeah I would agree with that as well Even without jungle, Jones, their front court, still going to be good. It's not gonna be as I mean I think if you had a friend of. Her. Time Jokes. Wrestling could have. A lot of trouble with. I do think even though they can benefit from the fact that I think they're not the only team the star, center outright. You Have Tina Charles this l.. Game bitches out so there's a little bit more. Wiggle Room they're just that. You're not facing kind of an all star center night in an hour. Or so, that will help them out a little bit I do think yeah, they're definitely a playoff team I feel like there another one. That's kind of like. Could fall towards top somewhere in the middle of the pack. It will see how quickly things come together, but. I think they're still going to be good not as good as they. They were probably title contenders before, but now. They're going to be good. I agree with that. It's GonNa be fun just to see. The new pieces and I think. With that being said I pick skyward snipped at Phoenix I made I I'm really anxious to see that, too. You know that looks like they're. With. Dan. It's Housi- also. Kind of considering the same, thank as sue bird. In terms of how many seasons. Ago You know so the hunger that kind of. Say. Is. For everyone else around her. Because everybody else around. It's either GonNa WanNa, do it. For her, you know and same thing at Seattle could be said you know they WANNA do for Su- so I think it, CENEX. I think. Get Smith has a latch routes I think. When I say she has a lot to prove. She wants to prove something. Not The she to prove anything to me I'm convinced I'm just thinking that. That she's hungry like she made this move to Phoenix and. She's hungry and she wants to. Prove that. She is who she is, and she wants to make a statement that way and I think this is a perfect change of scenery for her and I'm excited for her I'm thrilled for her and I know that it's going to be of quite a statement. She makes this year. I believe she's GonNa step out. I really really good for Phoenix. Skyler doesn't have anything to prove that. She thinks she has something to prove. Great players soon as what great players. I'm sure Ross has convince yourself as she has something to prove despite being w is, that's what great players do that added that team I think. Including Brittney Griner, I think we hardly a has a chip on her shoulder. A lot of people including me were begrudging her Max correct off season. Go out there proven. She can have the opportunity to so I. I'm I'm with you. I think Phoenix has an excellent opportunity very concerned about their defense. Bryner is going to have to get back to being absolutely the best defensive player in the League, not not debatable. If they're going to win a championship ring, Garner has to be absolutely by leaps and bounds the best defensive player in the League. So I think to me, have we have we all favorites besides Kotla? Haag Oh and Vegas her. Do. You have strong feelings on those. I'm I'm I feel like Vegas? is another one just interested to see how it all works out modern new pieces to missing pieces? It's another one. That's a lot of question marks right now, so we'll see how it all goes to. Say, I think what intrigues me about Vegas. Poetry you know and other piece that's there was experience and you know she's a gold medalist and I think. You know with mistake because injury It's her ACL and missing last year. I think there were. There was a.

"In articles not on on the media. Call or anything but in articles. After she signed to play here in DC I mean they have a great report from. Mike Tibo having coaster in Connecticut and she was an MVP and twenty twelve undermine tables tutelage. Of respect against war for Mike Tibo as the head coach and general manager who gets to pick the chess pieces out of the box and do his best. As coming out of there. Some inclement weather coming in. Case that comes out of the podcast. I, think I think. Meghan went through storm before we did and. Now goes through storm. Mega Mega Mega. What else what else do we want to get into here? I mean we should not just talk about the mystics. Chrissy loved the miss six, but we have. We need someone to bring us back to the rest of the League. Yes. Before you said that I was gonNA. Make a really horrible joke about you. Saying Storm, so we should talk about the storm. Knows good. So, yeah, I think Seattle's achieve a lot of people are talking about race as kind of a favorite to win it all. They're healthy. They looked a lot, maybe even better. The not turning eighteen team that won it all from the players that stepped up last year. When burden skewer out so I think they're going to be kind of a really interesting. To Watch, I am with the Seattle. Is the best team on paper this year they have depth. Top to bottom I, think something. They sat in all their zoom call so far as we got starters on the batch, and that they will start on the bench they have their players here on every single one of them other than as he and. Yeah I mean as defendants are. The only players who? Don't have finals experience in the last two years. That's pretty. That's a pretty good deal. Because Morgan Lexi only the only new player so. That's that's that's a pretty good deal when you have. So. Many players championship experienced and knows it takes to get there and like you mentioned. Those players stepped of last year. Sammy Welcome. I think Jordan can't is going to be an all star in this league got some point, and she really showed that last year our almost won MVP last year. And it's just like the. There's so much talent on this team that. It's hard to see what stops the storm here. What stops there other than you know an injury or something else getting in the way of players playing? If everyone is, you know as healthy as you can be. During a WNBA season. I don't see who gets in their way on their way to a championship I the only thing I'm concerned about is just like you know. Maybe maybe some players, not getting as many touches as a delay shearer. Maybe some players like I may miss, but I don't see that being a problem already. WanNa Championship essentially. Yeah I. Speak Up for Seattle like you said you on paper I. They have the experience Serena Tasha Howard. I made she was a problem last year. She just didn't have the help around.

"As being critical thinkers. But I, I just try to stay optimistic I try not end. Pun intended there while. But I just think that for Washington. With Emma Niessen, bringing the confident is that she is gathered over the last couple of years especially, the playoffs Emma last year, and she wants that I think she wants the responsibility of being the go-to player. And I think what remains to be seen, or who are the other two? They're gonNA. Come along with our to be go-to players if she's double covered so I I'm intrigued by it all, but I also think that they are capable of it. because of their mindset more than any kind of physical play or you know I think the. Place because of my Tibo I think the mental piece is going to be in because they have confidence coming in for master, and I think also they have this this confidence from the veterans and Leilani Mitchell Joe, but she can also knock down to three. And a lie, Christy top or in that role, so I think you're gonNA see You're gonNA see a surprise. I think from from the mystics I don't think you should. Count them out just yet, you know check with may midway ruined? Looks like, but right now I just you know everyone has a you know a different viewpoint and I think mine may be a little over the top. That's just kind of how I roll. It. It's a really good argument, I. Mean Look like you said Mike tvos coach. Simmons on the team. And Eric the areas are on the scene so there I think I'm just. I have a lukewarm take we have to hot takes Hong basically hot and cold. Take on warranty. Take I think you're going to be kind of middle of the pack, and it's not because they I think they have the talent to. Maybe not necessarily compete for a title on paper right now, but definitely have a the talent to compete. For a high playoff seed and and to. Grow as a team I think aerial atkins like to me. She is going to be one of the best players in this league. Come maybe this year right like she. She's so good defensively already, and the offense has just been coming along. Come along, and you saw last year which you could do, basically A. You're Super Three D. Curbing push into the star. Wilshire's actually really beneficial for the mystics organization, and Also, see Just you know like amas was gonNA take this whole. I think. She said in a press conference like she sees life as adventure so. She's just going to have fun and I think. Aerial powers, just you know. She's GonNa. Be Kind of the. She was the motor of this team to a certain extent. Last year, Special Chris Christie colliver went down. A A P really dragged his team energy wise I think she'll do the same thing I think again. This great opportunity for the military operation to feed a PD ball get the ball. Aerial Atkins get the ball. Amusement Gidwani shines album so I think from an orientation perspective. This isn't like. As big of a disaster could be because they do have a lot of young talent that should be here for a while. They have their first round pick, which is a problem because they may have a really good pick if things go sideways. But the I see them being the road I would be surprised if they got to the second round I. Think Dill. I would be surprised if they missed. The playoffs would be surprised if they got to the finals again, but. Like we said at the beginning podcasters planning the season like anything. And and to have coached, you have Emma and they have areas, so I think with that core group is really strong and I know we should talk about our teams, but I did want to ask you you like. I was having this debate on on on a slack channel Do, you guys think that if if the roster was what we expected to happen after free, agency. Would Leilani Mitchell be kind of like. A perfect replacement for Chrissy. Soliver like do I think at that point if the roster was complete, I think they Lonnie doesn't. Doesn't take off the table from what Christie did so I just want to get your thoughts to her as a replacement in that like perfect world scenario. Yeah I think I mean she'd be a good replacement. She completely replaces Christine, but it's close to it, but I think a big part of that is the piece of she would have around her in that situation where it becomes a different situation when now of sunny you don't have kind of those all star players all around you. Makes it a little. Her job more difficult trying to fill in that role. I agree with that as well I think Mike Tibo today after practice on the on the post practice Zubkov. He said that you know. Leilani was looking an coming here even if Christie didn't go to La and he was thinking that. They would play together or take. In terms of their minutes on the floor. So I think with that being said I mainly Lonnie's a little smaller. Then Christie's over, so if you're looking at both sides of the floor, I, mean offensively I think they bring a lot of the same things to the table the ability to to. Knock in threes, but also the ability to break down defenses and attack that elbow and kick out to other shooters and create Claes but also on the defensive, and you have to look at that I think that's the only kind of strike against Leilani or size If you're comparing tolliver and and Mitchell but I think that you know she's she's spunky. Spunky, she's got a lot of energy. And you know she's a great leader and she's been in DC before. This is their second time here with the missed and you know. She said on Media Day on Sunday. She said you know. Someone asked what what made her comfortable with coming back to DC, and she said you know trying to get back here. Several other times, but you know contractually in the way things worked out. Didn't happen, but now you know that it could happen this year, you know. She was so excited about coming back and playing for coach Tibo was she was like his philosophy, and just the way he sets the table for the players and holds everyone accountable i. think she really and truly appreciate that and I think you know Tina. Charles Basically said the same thing..

"Just haven't gotten a chance yes so i'm loosely familiar with jason recent stanley as actually a philosopher who works at yale who has been tweeting about this more recently <hes> and this is something that he pointed to you you that when there is these sorts of violations they disproportionately tend to impact people who are advocating left wing views and they're just really isn't the evidence dance to suggest that conservative thinkers are libertarian thinkers are right-leaning thinker as in general are being silenced or d platform d- yeah it not really my opinion on it. Is it really just the the right is so. I don't know there's like there's so much better at marketing. They're so good at putting together this campaign where they're all on the same talking points. They're all in line. They're all talking to each other at tucker. Carlson is up their polling on every interviewer that or interviewee rather other who has had any problem in academia at all and it's so tough to like fight back against that so but that's interesting i i will be very curious to hear that talk once once it comes out any final thoughts on that topic before we move onto what we want to talk about today. Took the only thing i i would like to say in what you just said is. I think the right has a real advantage pige here. They're defending the status quo. They're basically just saying no things are pretty good as it is and so that's a pretty easy message to get on board with but when your argument is actually you know what things aren't working. You're the message that you need to have is what's going to and that's a lot harder to to come up with. Then things are fine. That is a frequent theme of the show. Actually i status quo. Warriors is the counter term that i've used sometimes like think that you know they they label me a s j w social justice warrior but <hes> i think status quo warrior is a good term for for the other side of that sometimes but yeah speaking of kind of related to that <hes> i have really been wanting to talk to you about this alfran article this was in the new yorker and and not to not to go too much into it but i did a few episodes on the al franken situation <hes> i believe with christy winters i want to say sorry i did it a few home and i'm blanking but <hes> one way or the other we did a few because i was a huge al franken fan. I loved his book. You know i'm like i was really into <hes> how <unk> how well he was doing at these hearings where who's asking the greatest questions and then adds more and more stuff came out. It was kind of coping process of recognizing like okay this this is too far in this guy has to go <hes> that that is where i eventually got to after the second and third accuser <hes> so just to just full disclosure on where i was on this show joe but <hes> why don't you do you wanna bring us up to speed with there. Was this new yorker article. It was by jane mayer. I believe i i'm not sure how to pronounce if it's meyer mayor but <hes> but she was very vociferous in her defence of al franken do you wanna get kind of bring us up to speed on this article and what you thought of it yeah so i i found this article really revolting at times..

"I'm your host Thomas Smith and got interview for you with Christy winters back on the show for the n time any qu'ils not enough. So I'm sure we'll have her back again more than more than a couple. But not enough. I think is the answer. We are discussing this article I will link it in the show notes, it is called attraction inequality and the dating economy, and it certainly caught both. Our is our sets of is because it has a lot of talking points that are used by Intel HS and red pill people in, but it also tries to put like a scholarly shine on it, which is I guess that's a good summary of Quillet in my opinion, trying to put a scholarly shine on some of these more awful talking points around the internet, and so I had her onto discuss. The data. They used in. How it does or doesn't actually support what they're saying? Okay. So let's hop on over to my interview with Christy winters. It's Dr Christy winters back on the show. Welcome back. Good to speak to you. Again. How you doing? Oh my goodness. It's it's it's it's been quite a week. And it's only Monday. Fine. Happy to be back on and talking with you about something that's very nerdy. Which is kind of my that's my area of YouTube being in social media. So. Both nerdy. And not nerdy. I get why any any non nerdy thing can be nerdy. If you get enough data about it. Right. That is true. You can make anything sexy or thirty. I guess here. Lots of things. Stats are involved. That's all. All right. Well, yeah. There was a Quillet article, you know, the esteemed publication Quillet dot com had an article this was in early March. And it it made right away. My alarm bells kinda went off because the title is attraction inequality in the dating economy and right away. It it introduces and talks about the this sort of eighty twenty concept that I've seen referenced by in cells, and it's in I think it's in the red pill documentary thing where it's like, oh turns out men are the real victims here, and that kind of thing now, I don't know though, it references some studies. So I thought you know, it'd be great to talk to you. Somebody who social scientists whose way more literate in data studies on on the seven we'd see kind of separate fact from fiction or at least day. Data from extrapolation inappropriately of the data. Maybe that kind of think, Ed. Very well said, yeah, I think that's a good. That's a good way of putting it. Just to recap. What you said there is this Quillet article that came out, and it has the idea of attraction inequality, the dating in Konami, the dating economy, and the article it self gonna goes through as you were saying this narrative where they talk about they set up the thing about the dating. And then they start to point to some studies and studies that look at at dating it would seem to be. But when I started unpacking and looking deeper into the studies, they use a realize that the story was one way more complicated and not even more complicated than they. They've just misinterpreted the data some important ways to create a narrative that you as you mentioned fulfils this men are the victims in some tally. I think also I would say probably intellectual dark web. There has there's a sort of tinge of that roaming around in that area as well. Now, it sounds when you when you read the article, it sounds really impressive. There's this person that they're citing. And he used something called the Ginnie coefficient which is something that has been used the problem with that article though. So anyway, let me actually let me get to their conclusion. And then we'll go back and look at the studies to see whether or not the study's actually say what they say. Disclaimers. Of course, we are going to be speaking broadly about hetero men and women had Roe relationships. That's going to be probably the focus because that's what the data available is for this particular discussion..

"And is it just mayor those Kim Barnes Areco tnd have have a chance and have what it takes to make a run. Well, I definitely co-signed that China just because can burn Rico said this has been her most deep team that she's had in the seven years. She's been on the sidelines at Michigan. No Caitlin flare. The all time score and leader for them, not just for women's basketball. But for men's basketball as well. So it was a different style of play that they utilize this past season. And when you have a player like Nicole Munger who is a gritty hard nose hard hat kind of player's gonna take charges for you. But can also knock down the three and stretch the floor around players like Holly them and this dynamic freshmen who I am absolutely. In love with non Hillman who was big ten freshman of the year as voted by the media. And when you have this kind of balance when you have the the older players utilizing the the issue of these young players and not and said over and over again, hey, I'm. Just I'm learning and I'm in it to win it. I'm listening to all the coaches they trust me. They put me in the starting lineup. So if they're trusting me I have to trust myself. This is a kid who just gets it and she gets out there, and she just goes hard. And she is a motor inside on the glass like she stays possessions for them. So I think with Michigan when you have the leadership like I said at an eighty you're gonna take on Kansas state of the big twelve and I just think they have a great chance because of their balance and their depth. So obviously dome has a foul trouble. She's a key piece for them on both sides. But the same goes for Munger, you know, she was in and out of the lineup a little bit this year with some injuries. So it makes a difference with her on the floor, but Kim Barnes Rico. I know she's excited to be in the turnament this year after winning the w I t two seasons ago. So she knows what it takes to win. And she really has these kids believing and what she wants. Well, I. I wholeheartedly agree with that. I love Hailey Brown as well. And let me tell you should makes it pass Kansas state and Louisville pass Robert Morris. What a game that would be an old began natch up from Kim Barnes Rico, Saint John's days, and Jeff wall days that would be a dog fight. So yeah, we'll definitely be watching. We'll be watching you Kristie. We know you will be in Iowa. So we'll watch you on the two, but we're else can we catch you on social media where can fans follow you? At Christie, w Scott fifty one on Instagram and Twitter, and I will be heavily utilizing my social media during the Iowa City bracket. So actually one of our kids from southlake coach, she's a freshman at Mercer to you been the nudie. So it's like this crazy connection of going there to see her play as well. So it's going to be a lot of fun for me personally. But I love the game. So it's going to be awesome. Getting to see one of your former players and south lakes in the NCAA tournament. Wow. How awesome would that be? Yeah. I forgot to add to your resume. Coach is well, congratulations on your run and the Virginia state tournament as well. Thank you so much Kristie. We appreciate your time. And they just being amazing be life going into Riga. We need we need role models. That's you. I appreciate you guys doing for the game. And and just keep pushing pushing and letting people know what a great game women's basketball is we love you guys. We love you too. Thanks christie. These days..

"And then if records gets out of that, they'll have Yukon probably we will take on tasks, and and I know we haven't gotten this the ton of Taus in this year. But one what a great story as they get to their first NCA tournament. And I know, you know, something about the background of head coach, Diane Richardson, can you tell us a little bit about her. First of all, I just love her love her. She was the head coach at Riverdale Baptist the highschool out inaugural, Maryland and. Did a fantastic job with them. They were ring top of the countries that were several years over, but she's had since with the university of Maryland GW, West Virginia and now house and she's taking the helmet and just two years gotten them to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history. So I think when you have leadership like that. And it's the belief that she has in the players, but it's the belief that she creates within those players that has really been special to see and I'm just really happy for her. And I know that the sky's the limit for the potential of that program moving forward just because of what she's planted and then in terms of the beliefs and the competitive trust that she's created with the culture there in talented. Yes. Congratulations to house. And if you haven't seen Diane Richardson's dancing skills. You can check out my Twitter can definitely get town. Last question before to Rica kick me off here Kristie, I think the most intriguing team for me. Now, you again, you've got the Maryland's you've got the Iowa's. But I also were wondering about Michigan. I just feel like personnel wise. They have so many great pieces came up just short in a big tin turnament..

"And they had a lot of close games this year. They were bumped by in a nine point game and the tournament. So I mean, this is a team I feel that could be a surprise for some people like you said, and you know, yes, we're talking I want Maryland and workers coming out of the big ten this year. But you know, you don't hear about Indiana as much, but they have had a fantastic season Terry Moore, and it's going to have those kids prepared and ready to go. And I think it's gonna be fun to watch alley pepper. I think you know, marches where you discover all the. Players to continue to follow throughout their careers. And I think you have to put alley peppered right at the top of the list on that. Yeah. Couple of transfers for Terry Moore in that have made a huge impact in Pat Burg and also Brenna wise and Indiana was one of those last teams in right? They were into the debatable eight, and so then you get this energy. Once you say, okay now, we're in and you have nothing to lose, right? Those teams are always the most interesting to watch you mentioned you mentioned Rutgers. And obviously know sad news coming out that that coach Vivian stringer will not be doing her team for the NCAA tournament as she continued to wrestle our prayers to her. But ruckers doesn't look like they're really messing around despite not having your head coach and possibly being inspired. I love stace Kerry. Does Rutgers really have what it takes without Seve on the sideline to pull them up sets. Well, I think what they have. They have CVS stringers spirit within them. She has taught them well and not just the players, the coaches, and the coaches have held their team accountable to the expectations of of CVS stringer and what she expects from them. So with that being said, Tim eat men implemented there fifty five defense about two weeks prior to the big ten turnament initially. They had said that Vivian stringer would return for the TA tournament. But like you said the news came out last week that she would not be returning. But I think they implemented that fifty five to assure that they would get into the NCAA tournament. And it's time for her to come back. But I think with that fifty five defense if you haven't seen it you guys. I mean, it is swarming. I know in their last five games, they had one hundred six steals because if you five and I mean when you're steals not just the flex. We're talking about feels and going. The other way. So this is a record team when you're in March madness, your defense has to come through for you and for Rutgers whenever you say the word Rutgers. That's just it personify defense. I mean, you think Rutgers you think defense you think that fifty five they had done it. They were intermittent with it at the beginning of the year kind of went away from it mid season. And then got it back right in time for the strong momentum push to secure three seed in the big ten tournament. So when you have records now at a seventy and they're gonna take on buffalo, which is going to be a great match up and they've had a fantastic season. And of police ya like a Jack shoe back difference in job with an emotional pride moment after winning that MAC championship. But I just think when you have a team like Rutgers who will present some strong defensive energy and pride you can never count that out. I don't care how your shooting the ball. I know against Maryland during. The regular. I mean during the big ten portion of the season they upset Maryland at Maryland hitting nine threes. Your shots not always gonna fall. But what you can bring all the time is that lockdown defense that trapping swarming. Run jump situation full court that you have to contend with. And you have to break it every single time or you're going to be in big trouble. So you have to be on your Ps and qs when you're playing against Rutgers, especially in that full court presentation, it can be exhausting, absolutely exhausting, which arrived. Buffalo will be fun watching Dillard..

"Thanks for listening and for calling. Nathan big fan. This was on. My my comments on your most recent episode you had with Christy winters. I believe about Louis CK. It's actually not about Louis C K. It was about the I agree with just about everything. I said about that about Sam Harris during Peterson and Dave Rubin. Now, I'm really defend Dave Rubin. Jordan Peterson they're making their own competing company with for with patriotic because they think it's just completely unjust of what they did to Sargon which I don't agree with. They have absolutely every right to this associated with every anyone that they don't like now Sam Harris kind of got lumped in 'cause he left at about the same time. And he kinda went in more depth on one of his podcasts about why. And he wasn't necessarily he kinda halfway defense Sargon. But his main point was that there. There was no real recourse for Sargon patient getting shut down. And he's saying just a little more hesitant to tie all of his business dealings with a company that will just have anyone had at any point get offended by anything. He might say outside of his use of patriotic and just shut down as a count. I mean guys where little unfair him. He wasn't necessarily taking issue with patriot on and self. It was just the fact that there was no real week course for on for just his account getting deleted outside of that. Love your show. Hey, Nathan, thanks for the call. I also want to bring in an Email from Gary that says Thomas love your shows on. I know you've heard this before but frustrated that you're lumping Sam Harris together with some of these other folks listening today to your conversation with Christy winters, you both misrepresented his motivations for leaving. Patriot. I say this with the caveat that can't be sure I've heard everything Sam said on the matter, but I've heard him address it, and he's has specifically stated that he is not doing this out of solidarity for Carl in your conversation. You explicitly said he was he's leaving patriot now and hurting his followers over to his website. So that he won't have to deal with a situation in a panic. If patriot decides the sensor him, which is a real possibility as completely out of his control. He gets completely out of his control. He it's misconstrued as in Islam phobic enough to make his fears reasonable. I believe you've experienced some angst in the past from patriots unilateral. Visions that put you in a pretty vulnerable spot. I don't know why his decision doesn't make sense to you unless you've forgotten. So those were similar so we can take all those together. And I think there's there's some points to address their this is what Sam Harris's real. I wanna emphasize I still listen to Sanchez podcast unless he has like Brit Weinstein or another idea w dork on I don't bother with those ones. But I still listen to show. I think Sam Harris is incredibly brilliant guy. I think there are a lot of people who think he's dumb or wanna try to in a in a really simplistic black and white way try to make it like anyone who could have bad opinions on certain issues is dumb or ignorant or something or a fraud or whatever I don't think that at all. I just listened to his podcast with Stephen Fry who and it. It's it sucks because you know, there's a few minutes in that are incredibly depressing. Stephen FRY's, always been such a I I don't know if I'd say hero. But just somebody. Really have admired over the years. I love his work. I love his personality in his humor and all that stuff. And they both do seem to have this like anti PC thing going on right now. And so that was frustrating, but apart from that I bring it up because I just listened to that episode. I thought Sam was really brilliant inarticulate about what he believes in terms of you know, Buddhism and meditation and and just in interviewing Stephen Fry delightful conversation..

"Christy winters. Welcome back to the show. It's so good to be on. Thank you for the invite. It's always so nice to talk with you. Absolutely. Is my pleasure. I'm so glad you're here. Thanks for taking the time. This is this is a tough one. I know that we've kind of referenced Louis CK in the past. And when this latest recording came out, it's just this is one of those topics that I just I can't help but think about and try to work my way through and I was thinking all do some monologue ING about and I thought what's it'd be better than that as having Christiaan some smart person to sound off with and maybe kinda check back and forth and see see how we feel. So I'm really glad you're here. I put myself through the through the pain of listening, the whole set, the actually I didn't I didn't even know. I was going to do that. I just kind of at the last second. I was like, you know, I guess I'll see what else is there. Maybe if there's there's anything that would explain or justify kind. The leaked bits. But just to reset slightly. I guess there was a Louis C K kind of leaked audio recording of a set. He's working on now and to one one a half or two minutes leak that was really incredibly boring. Offensive anti trans stuff like circa twenty ten jokes about identifying whatever. N? It's so tired and unfunny like is not even a creative right wing offensive that stick, you know, it's it's really not what I would ever have expected from Louis before. But you know, now, obviously he's in a different different situation. But so that kind of leaked and it was he's bashing. He can listen recording. If you want, obviously, if people don't want to really shouldn't. But he's kind of bashing young people like oh young people testifying congre. Why aren't they just deer drinking jello shots and having sex with each other and do whatever, you know, why they identifying whatever that kind of like get off my lawn humor. And do you. Do you heard that clip, right? Just the short one. I remember seeing people pass around the script of it and talking about whether the script was a good representation of the audio. What that's right. If I it was a script the script was one hundred percent what it was in the clip..
