The terminal rate important for the Federal Reserve I'm Mark Hamrick with a bank rate dot com personal finance minute it. With the latest increase in its benchmark rate, the third straight increase of three quarters of 1%, the Federal Reserve is now lifted the federal funds rate into territory regarded as initially restrictive for the economy. Think of it this way when the economy was very weak, the fed took its key rate down to record low territory, close to zero. That was like stopping on the gas when the pandemic slammed the economy. Then inflation happened, since March of this year, the Central Bank has been boosting rates, hoping to dampen demand, taking wind out of inflation sales. The benchmark rate stands at between three and three and one quarter percent. A big question, perhaps the biggest involves how much higher this benchmark rate will have to go to bring inflation down. Official signal going for the mid 4% range of the coming months based on the latest readings of inflation, it seems we're a long way away from there. I'm Mark Hamrick. "Your car with unloaded guns in the trunk. In Rockville, Christy king WTO P news. 9 18. Back to bob and learn the traffic center. In college park on the interloop of the beltway, some traffic is now getting by on the ramp to go north on 95. The truck fire should be out now. It was in the cab of the truck, but now in the service roadway on the inner loop at route one traffic is hung up pretty badly and not sure what the incident is there, possibly some road work, either on the ramp or on route one itself or possibly some other incident in that service road, which has traffic pretty badly backed up on the inner loop side, but only in the service road, not in the main lanes. On 95 and the Baltimore Washington Parkway, good to go 50 out to the bay bridge, pretty much the same story there. And southbound two ten down to a single lane to the right, headed south from the beltway It's the work zone getting to Kirby, hill road, just one lane getting by there. Saint Barnabas road, just off of branch avenue, do you have a crash involving an overturned vehicle near 28th, not sure if that's still in the roadway, though. And things are pretty good shape on the Virginia side, three 95 and 95 each running without delay. But they are setting up a work zone now in Gainesville, 66 eastbound, color said they had traffic stopped. Now I believe what they're doing is sending all traffic into the service road at route 29 as paving continues on 66 itself. This is on the eastbound side at 29 in Gainesville. Bob emler WLP traffic. "Search kennels. Christy king tapio news Another increase in the number of Americans applied for those jobless benefits, the latest numbers from the Labor Department up this week show 262,000 people as for unemployment aid up 14,000 from the week before, the highest level actually in 9 months. This morning Mark Hamrick, senior economic analyst for bankrate dot com with his tank. If you like our temperatures, there does seem to be some cooling here and this is probably to some degree welcome believe it or not, not the people are becoming unemployed, not at all. But remember of the unemployment rate for July was three and a half percent. So the job market has been quite hot. And some companies have been reducing their personnel, whether they're fearful about what may loom in the future with the economy or that they are actually seeing some weaker demand. Hey, we got word they have a slight drop in July inflation. It's at 8 and a half percent compared to about 9% more than 9% in June. The president is taking some credit for this mark, but are we really in that good of shape? It's almost like being a Washington Nationals fan where you'll take a win where you can get at these days. And that's another story, of course. But we really have had some good news on inflation for two days running in the sense that the headline numbers have come in below expectations. And with this measure of producer prices or wholesale inflation, we actually saw a month over month decline. That doesn't get us to where we want to be with inflation. We know there are still high prices for a lot of things, even with this decline at the gasoline pump or well above where we were a year ago, and the price for food remains elevated, but I'd say things are moving in a better direction. And that's encouraging. That is, Mark Henry, senior economic analyst for bank rate dot com. Don't you the latest jobless numbers with Hillary and Sean. You are listening to 103.5 FM in WTO P dot com. "In damage requiring an extensive repairs. Christy king WTO P news. Meanwhile, metro wants to get more 7000 series railcars back in service and it's asking the metro safety commission for approval to do just that. All 748 of metro's 7000 series railcars were taken out of service last year after an investigation into an October derailment, identified the car's head wheel alignment problems, metro is currently only allowed to operate 64 of those cars each day, and each must have its wheels inspected first. Although the request to run more of them was discussed at today's safety commission meeting, it's not clear how many more of those railcars metro wants to run every day, new metro general manager Randy Clark, who started work about two weeks ago, has said getting the 7000 series cars back on the rails is a top priority. D.C. police are investigating a possible hate crime after they say a group of teenagers called a gay couple monkey pox before assaulting them. The couple was walking along 7th street northwest in the Shaw area on Sunday when they encountered the group, one of the victims tells our news partners at NBC four a gay slur was also hurled at them before the attack. The couple suffered cuts and bruises earlier this evening, mayor muriel Bowser tweeted her support for the victims, saying she is, in her words, extremely disturbed by the reported hate crime, police are still looking for suspects. Police chiefs here and around the country are part of a giant effort to bridge gaps between police departments they represent and civil rights advocates, the effort comes at a time when the two groups are often pitted against each other. Now is the time. To turn to each other, not on each other.
