"That's all changed now you know it's it's really hard to make money as a as an online media company and yet this isn't tasting table just if you get a free email i mean how is it is it funded through advertising 100 percent yeah yup and it was originally newsletter driven business and that's when the costs for advertising in um uh a higher end newsletter was very expensive many times more expensive than a magazine many times mark hundreds of times more expensive than a website so is very like premium audience premium content that has changed in the ten years since and and the big guys like buzzfeed and the little guys like small independent sites meaning they only have veto a million or to impressions a month they don't know how to make money anymore and it's because of you know they're being just a couple of gatekeepers to the financials of advertising and they keep switching up their algorithm or the keep switching of their priorities and everyone's looking around right now and trying to figure out where the money's gonna come from in the next few years so part of the reason why i you know i'm out here in portland this week working on a new company that will have a website in sell ads it will have a newsletter and sell as in the newsletter were launching a magazine will sat celt ads there and we don't consider that enough to support the business it's you know the majority of our revenue will come through more experiential and tangible things that were selling mmhmm yes f you episodes ago he had christopher kimbell iin the end we along with matthew card from christopher kimble's milk street and they were talking about how they go around the country doing live shows and live classes and that's a big part of their business model so you can't just start it sounds like you can to start at the publication anymore experiential media is the thing you keep hearing now and um it makes sense that you know that's what people were willing to pay for these days i think a good example of that is cherry bombs which i think they may just have to issues a year big fat beautifully.
