Christina Hendricks, 'Good Girls'

"I think there's probably When I set my mind to something I am incredibly focused and detail oriented and For lack of a better word just a little bit anal retentive about things and. I think that that's what I'd probably bring to Beth. The other two characters are maybe like my sister's rebellious in funny and and A little rougher on the edges and my friend is maybe a little bit more relaxed and loving and I'm of the nerdy rigid one that they're always sort of I rolling at and sort of like. Oh Beth didn't get the joke or Beth doesn't understand this or you know Does a little bit of catching up with Beth? And I think I have. They would have to explain to me. They reference something and I do. What is found there like Instagram Christina? Oh I don't know like you know. So they have to teach me stuff just like my kids just living somewhere else on the national scientists. Have no idea what I'm catching up. That's kind of Nice to know that the world well you know I figured if I was Gonna continue to live on planet earth I was going to have to join in some of the activities So when I started I got on instagram. I finally broke down with a little help from my friends and slowly easing into it. It's fun it I'm a I'm enjoying it. It's fun but it's work. Well it is to take a whole separate job. It's not just you doing this. People want to answers. Well you sort of feel like you want to share yourself and Be True to yourself. You know your image and personality so manipulated by interviews magazines in these kinds of things. So this is your platform to just say this is who I am and and it's not being manipulated by anyone else. This is just me. What vision do you think the public has of you? Just based on magazines and social media and the world outside I think that Life see you. Yeah I think a lot of people Assume that I'm sort of Joan from madman that I that maybe I'm a bit more stern or a little bit more uptight or maybe a little more put together a mess like I was there but gene you know dropping things on the floor girl I'm not nearly as sort of put together. And maybe prissy as I think people think maybe I think so. Maybe I'm not well. It's kind of a famous story. Now that basically the agency that was representing you said Madman what. We're not WANNA representative. You're doing that. Show what is it? Amc Show AMC did not have a show. There was no breaking bad at that point there was. There is nothing and we were show. They used to play old movies So they were like this. This show's not going to get picked up. And this shows not gonNA pay anything and it's period show. It's going to be super expensive to make no one's GonNa WanNa make the show it's laborious and you know wordy and And I was like all my favorite. I love laborious because it was it was about characters. And so yeah. That's scary as an actor. Though to have an agency say okay. Go and do it. But we don't want to represent you. It was humiliating. It was awful. It's very embarrassing to be working with people who all of a sudden go. Yeah we're just not interest like we don't think what you're doing is good enough to represent you. You're not worth their time. It's it's awful. They should be embarrassed. Well you know I hope they were and I hope you haven't spoken to and I you know I just haven't seen her because she's no longer an agent but I liked her as a person and I have no hard feelings. There's all sorts of stories in this town. You know what I got to work on that show for ten years and I made the right choice. That's it that's I got another agent. You just go and get another one there. It is people out there who are wondering what you do. Just go get you know you can get another age. Yeah well you good girls to do that. But I'm looking at you and I'm thinking where did the start last time you were here? I don't think I ever asked what it was when you were a kid because I know that you lived in different places when you were growing up. Yeah did you always have this feeling? This was what you wanted to do was at well I started. Dancing was started dancing at a young age. I clearly liked to perform and when we moved twin falls Idaho. I was in third grade and my mom had my brother and I dish for a local community theater. Children's group called jump company junior musical playhouse and she just thought it was. She was just trying to help us make friends 'cause moving from town to town and she she didn't want us to necessarily get stuck in the cliques. At school she she liked the idea of it being community and my mom always liked to do theatre in college and high school so We went and auditioned to be in the best Christmas pageant ever and You know then all of a sudden I was on stage in musicals and doing bye bye Birdie and the chorus in the background and I was like this is. This is where it's at this. This is the most fun I'm ever going to have and I just continued to do it and I just found so much joy and at and singing and dancing and doing the whole thing that I just kept kept going but when you moved again you will go into Virginia to and we went to Virginia after Idaho so when I went to Virginia was the first time that I could take Acting classes in high school as a option. You know as an elective course so my brother. Yeah my brother had been in theater or drama class and so I was so excited because now I was like I can like start to really study. Be Real actress and And I went in and I remember some of the senior students. I was a freshman and they were like. Oh you're really serious about acting and I was like. Oh yeah definitely when I you know and I got a lead in in the in the school play and I was the new kid and I was a freshman and everyone was like ooh fresh. Br One I think it was a blithe spirit. Oh Yeah Ghost. A ghost ghost perfect thing. I had read that. You were bullied at the time when you were going to school in Virginia. Yeah when I first showed up. I was kind of Quirky Weird kid from Idaho that like listen to like new wave music but wore birkenstocks. And like like I. I just like no one could figure out what my story was and I I just. There weren't sort of categories of people where where I went to school in Idaho. You were a kid and I just happened to have like sort of my mom would help me make clothes and I would see something a magazine and we would make some weird snakeskin pants and I just I didn't realize it was sort of odd Until I got to Virginia and everyone was like. Oh you're weird. Trust me here weird and I was like maybe I am and and I immediately went into drama class. Which of course alienates you in some high schools already. Sadly put you with other alienated. And they're the best big creative Weirdos together with the rest of them yes so you know as the years went by then I sort of went through my sort of rock and roll punk goth all that stuff and and just celebrated being different. Didn't they're still? I'm still one hundred percents. People are like. Oh it's so funny that you were. I'm like I am still God. I don't let this Rambo sweater fairly lax eye. Shadow is a black lipstick. Saying yes I will do that. Let's have her. That Goth is bring her temper. Gabby Gabi really. She's the she's in there. You go just vocally in there to do that. Yeah goodness

"I hope everybody. I'm Peter Travers. In welcome to popcorn where we tell you what is popping in pop culture and. I know you're all excited to know that good girls is back for season. Three on NBC. And it's good luck to have one of the stars of Chuck Andrex. It's great to see you again. Nice to see you. Thanks for having me season three. So what kind of trouble are you women in this time? I'm a lot more. I some reason I root for these women. I know there are up to no good. But they're fun and they're relatable so people kind of have their back there like I'd do it. How do you know? And they've got this real inner it's it's the camaraderie with these women. It's just fun to watch them. Make these horrible mistakes. Is that how you felt when you were first? Approached about doing the series. You know when you when you come from a show that you've been on for almost a decade your next your next choice you you have one follow madman. Well you gotta think something. I would really want to do every day because I may be doing it for ten years. I know what that's like. You know so. You really want to choose something that you could imagine doing. And I thought I want to work with these women and I want to go on this wild caper. It just seemed like such a laugh and so weird and different and it's also very intense so I do you know I didn't sort of consider like a well. I'm going to be incredibly stressed out every day and this high anxiety level and the stakes are really high. Of course you have to play all that you know so. It's kind of exhausting. But what if and now? I'm assuming that you and men ready get along really well. We did from the beginning we did. I knew may casually we had done some Animated things together so met each other through that I had never met Reta I in fact called. May and I said you know I'm thinking about doing this. Show I I hear. You're doing it what he thinks she's like. I think it's going to be the best thing ever and we just like hit it off like house on fire. When we all met and here we are three seasons. And that's we know each other so well we can order lunch for each other in the other person's around we're like no no no. Do not put tomatoes on reticent. Please send it back. We can't deal with it We all know each other and we and we know how we react to things and we sort take care of each other well. It sounds like you know I'm making light of it but to be on a series where you work long days. Yeah so you. It's good if you get along. It's amazing and because we are playing these really stressful intense scenes to have people that you love so dearly to laugh inbetween takes you know. Make the day lighter. It just changes everything. 'cause you're right we're there for fourteen hours a day and and You know it's it's nice to have like comfort him between and just get pissed off together and be happy when something is really making you angry. Oh Yeah we've got each other's back if something's upsetting the other. Were like yeah. Yeah what she said. Yeah we're team because we're scary you know and you could. You could do that. You know your director and Toy Story. Four where you were doing the voice of. Gabby Gabby I read a quote from Him Josh. Cooling where he said There's the thing about Cristina where she has this very sweet affect and an a sweet voice and then she can turn on a dime and being medicine and cold. We're just that calm and we did have fun playing with that. I mean the sweeter the croupier right. I don't know I. I ended up playing a lot of characters that have that dichotomy that they have come across as an innocent. But there's this underlying thing to drive to firefly. I think it started with firefly's the first time I had a character like that. And maybe maybe maybe one lead to another. Maybe when they opened a script they thought now. Who can do this? You Know Christina Hendricks this are doing on firefly so maybe one led to the other. Because I don't think I'm duplicitous. That's my own personality. Christina can do cold and creepy short she can go to increase drake's he's ready to do it for those people that are having caught up yet or just beginning to catch up with good girls. Who were you playing describe this? I play your typical midwestern. Mother middle class hardworking organized but found herself sort of on autopilot and lost maybe sight of her dreams or what her needs were and each cheating on her she found her husband is cheating on her lured that Matt Lillard just so great And then my sister who's a single mother is struggling to keep her child protected and safe and in school and my best friend has a daughter with an illness. And so we all find ourselves in this place where we need money to sort of take care of our families and keep roofs over their head and we. We decided that the best logical solution is to rob a grocery store. And we'll go and get the money Jill with all of our problems and go on our on our way But of course one thing leads to another and we fall into life of crime and it's a quirky show. I mean that's what I would say to people who haven't seen it yet is just because it's on a network. Don't assume certain things about it. It is Quirky and weird and fun and has great music and it's dark and it's an interesting tone that you haven't seen before and I. I really think it's unique but store the grocery store that the three of you rob a fine at frugal which I'm obsessed and I want to start a chain of fine frugal because the crux of that which I think I can give away because well it was three seasons ago. Is that when you think you're GonNa rob to get some extra money to take care of the problems that there's like a half a million dollars there for long to a criminal element in that world. We think we're going to go in and get about fifteen thousand dollars and we come out with a half a million dollars and this becomes a much larger crime than we ever anticipated. And of course it's tied to a whole gang and a whole crime ring that we we just thought it was a grocery store. We didn't realize so else was laundering. Their money there and they find us and now we are sort of indebted to them and you know tied into this this much more dangerous which never stops never stops and the guys that really have that and real yes. So what is there in this character Beth in you? What do you bring them yourself to playing? Well I know you shop at finding the main thing.

"To la fun. Facts wait for it. I used to be a model and sometimes <unk> a hand model. This is my hand and another model stomach proud to be part of this film in any way hashtag doug american beauty and he's the post look at the photo and it's the american beauty poster of the iconic hand holding adding a rose overdose valley and say what you want about american beauty all actually don't because let's not but but that's an iconic poster and that's not me being stupid. That's a very very famous star immediately identifiable poster. Are you kidding. Everybody christina hendricks when they saw this who's belly though we don't know. Do you think the belly person never came out. Do you think she had to put the hand on the belly of its photoshop. No oh you she puts a hand on the handle. The belly do so they must have shot it while with the belly lying down probably and she's like she's kind of like lying across are sitting across. Yes and putting on your belly sort of a weird little. It's so to use a different hand in a different belly. Hollywood is wild just when i think i get it then it's like oh the american beauty poster her as a person to people a a disembodied body imagine like the folders when they had all of the photos like spread out on like a huge conference table all the different bellies all the different hands and then they are slowly whittling it down over the course of a week like i think this but now let's let's do a chemistry tests so they brought in like three hand three bellies and they like had the ladies get along and see what happened and then they narrowed it down to christina and then the belt ask who's hashtag. Who's the belly is like actually what i wanna start like. If you're the belly call in lake who's the belly like christina hendricks new belly. Is i have no idea idea is the belly maybe famous yes. The belt is going to be like it's <hes> i know who could possibly be. It's anti mcdowell. I don't know who was the belly. This isn't true argument for for practical effects because like without if this was like c._g._i. Or not real or not real belly or something. We would never have this incredible. Nope trivia really good. He now hold was christina. Hendrickson like nineteen ninety eight. When this poster was really i have no idea i have no idea idea how old's that hand the belly okay so she was she was twenty three when she shot this. Okay okay okay and the belly anchor now looking at it and always probably twenty-three-year-old belly. They probably wanna you know an age appropriate belly fucked up because i'm seeing this poster now and i can't can't envision it being one person i can only being too well. It's sort of like funny when you if you if you have to zoom out like what did those bodies look like when they were like it's like i'm telling you h you know. The picture of the dog and it's like has a dog wear jeans and like the jeans are like the new draw people draw it on just confusing and how does it work. "Interesting rachel lindsay who it was a bachelorette from a few seasons ago who was the lawyer big deal most boring season ever but she was kind of important thing. She got married like legally he married. I guess it's like i'm like really over her bachelor guy her bachelor guy this guy brian which i thought was really shocking and the most most most most striking thing about it was they didn't do it on tv. They did it like private privately so basically everyone's like very curious and this is fair. I think to to be curious about is like why they didn't get married on the on any type of programming he's deal when a bachelor or bachelorette gets legally married to the person they met on the show you know and in their a wedding i guess she made a speech that was like you can find love on t._v. It's like <hes> okay don't last long it but just so they didn't get married on the bachelorette and there's two reasons maybe why they either be. They didn't get enough money which i find hard to believe because it's not really about money at that point about like publicity or she genuinely didn't want it which is like oh. She's a good or normal or adjusted person. You know she was the one who didn't want to leave where where she lived to move to l._a. Because she wanted to keep doing her job essentially but then that kind of contradicts with the ideas she's got a t._v. Show essentially so she's he's doing a t._v. Show called ghosted she host. Is it like she's hosting something. It's like catfish but they stock people who've been who are ghosting other people which i think this kind of problem and i don't like track down people who whatever but she's hosting that with this guy travis mills who i honestly asleep don't know he's an artist and she's a bachelorette and she's lawyer. That was wrong things so maybe the law has to do with it. This season on ghosted. We're traveling the country looking for love gone. Missing cannot move on. I'm travis mills and i'm rachel lindsay ready for us. Attract on your ghost will investigate the clues clues and follow every lead to track down the ghost bobby. Do you change your wardrobe up. I think that's a very like not apartment thing that's for like when you have more space where you can like put wardrobes wardrobes away and take outboard drove when you have space yeah and then like oh put it as i wish i could do that but no i don't do that also don't have that many clothes. I wear all my stuff all the time yeah at like also like in the winter. I just wear more of those things. I just layer it. In the summer. I wear fewer of those things. Maybe the only things that i don't wear in the winter are short. You know people like put away their summer wardrobe. Take out there for fall wardrobe yeah people with how wardrobe <hes> so what i'm saying to you is it's time to put away the summer ever lane in the the you know the the linen the linen shorts everything put it away. Take out the bomber jacket and now you have one take out the fall wardrobe change it out that amazing koby last year only got the winter coat in winter come into where my winter coat again yes. I'm not gonna stop wearing a linen. I'm just going to wear underneath ever. Lane only makes premium essentials using the finest materials with attritional markups. "Closed because every time they they came out in like their underwear you could see like the seam where the i mean of course you can see the scene where the velcro was installed. That's going to be like yeah and then they rip the a unease offer whatever like show but you know and then they did there. Oh town road bit. I mean it was just it was probably like choreographed very quickly like they ask something. They needed something now right. We got to pounce on this trend there was this would obviously career where a girl got like chained up. You know oh it was this holland. Did you scream like i couldn't stop off. I was laughing and hooting and then vinnie came out and i was like this is honestly honestly i don't wanna be judgy but like a little depressing if felker pressing versus magic mike felt like but he's making good money i. I don't even think that he wouldn't be able to say. I bet the other ones are making good money but i've been he's making good money. I bet he's making fine money and i got this. I bet you get laid so much lady yeah literally though so you're saying we you the ma- the chip and if you're going to do the double feature the double header so to speak you should do. I would just imagine chippendales chippendales as the amuse amuse bush bush. I'm used bush that like a sexist joke. You just made right there a moose bush. I got us four tickets to see vinnie at the chippendales in las vegas this weekend and i would say just do magic mike okay. I think chippendales is like a very specific one. You really only need to see one and if you're not gonna amazon dick than like why iota chippendales when he's not gonna be there. You're not gonna see dick anywhere. You found really fascinating. Are there any that you see the ads for for like say arrogant one that sells. We're the one that sells that. Shows dick are there. Are there ones that show dick there off the strip but it's a business you should go to vegas and be like we show dick but then that's what i'm saying is there has someone capitalized on that illegal and also my other thing was god this podcast. Oh cast like already because the legal don't use but don't you think like i felt like this should be legal. They showed dick. It would get it would ruin everything. Don't you think so. I think so. I think if you have like people up there who are like very if you if the person is if the person is confidently showing i'm nick the dick matters. I think like it's about if if the person is depressed when they reveal the dick maybe if you can see the sadness on their face yes you would have on their faces. You could see the tattoo. They got when they were sixteen. You could see some sort of weird brand thing that they got when they were in a fraternity. You could see asked makeup. You could see everything so yes. It's going to be depressing when the show the dick so maybe keeping the dick like always hidden like one time and they all had censored signs over there dick's it was it was always a need up until me not seeing their dicks every time they knew i was like what's the point of this. I'm not gonna see dick it. Really lee was like futile magic. Mike never promises you dick. <hes> it promises you talent it. Doesn't it doesn't look like oh totally nude male strippers. I guess i guess maybe it's hard. I guess they're just hard to find. I'm i'm telling you i don't think dick is like normally part of it. I think it's always a lead up a special lead up but i guess the point of this show which is we're talking about like vinnie as the who in this experience. It just seemed very it seemed a little dark. I got to say as expected. I had a good time but it was definitely really dark experience for me and it seemed like vinnie had really lost some of the light in his eyes me that's because he's starving himself because he's in the carbs. You you know this but it definitely was a little bit like can they leave here. Are they allowed..

Tony Hale Talks 'Toy Story 4'

"Hi everybody I M Peter Travers this popcorn where we tell you what is happening at the movies and there is no movie. There's no movie now except for I don't really care I don't care. I just want stop it. There's no movie now. There's nothing this well thank you and my guest today. Tony Hale of course is immortal from playing Gary on and veep and then buster booth on is now found another. I kind of character in forty. You've turned out to be a plastics pork and they're all neurotic airy worke. There's a through line going on on. What do you think it was that made <hes> Disney Slash Pixar say we have this pork and he basically who could really voice this well? They I remember they brought me up to Pixar. Have you ever been up to Pixar. Gosh Creative Wonderland. It's so beautiful but they brought me up when they're like yeah we have this spark and we kind of got an erotic energy and we were like we thought about you check but I was <hes>. Nomadic energy with some humor comes from a lot of paying a lot of pain but don't we all they described him as you know. I just like he's very simple. He was simply made and he just sees little life very simple. He's <unk> overwhelmed. I'm always overwhelmed. He has oh yeah. He has a bit of an imposter complex. He's like I don't know how I got here. I kind of feel the same way all the time so we have. We have a lot in common for a lot of your trash trash to exactly your plastic trash you what everyone wants to get rid of clogs but he's happy with that. That's what I love about it. He's like my life. My lifeline flying like I help people eat Chili and I go to the trash. That's all I got and woody comes along. It's like no you have a greater purpose in that you have value and then of course you're crying in a corner as you're watching it. There's a lot of weeping that goes did you see in the in the in between the <hes> the laughter and things things like it's so great I mean it's typical Pixar. They make you laugh and then somehow you're. You're usually murder people. That's usually the thing that they do well. Let's let's talk about it isn't he has always done it. I never got Camby's mother being dead. I said No. It's not all right. Do you look at you. Look at frozen parents killed in a boating accident. A child is an isolation because she's got a gift from her sister rea puzzle. You know solitary confinement in a tree kidnapped by a witch. I've totally dark stuff. You choke on your popcorn win here doing totally bad as a parent. You're watching this dark man. Toy Story is nice. It's nice and refreshing your parents. Oh how old is your dog. She's thirteen so this is of my work. This is the first thing that she she can see. I mean because she's until she's middle aged so she household we can we can enjoy we can enjoy together so it was fun to see her when she was little. Did she come on the set of veep and everybody had headphones on. She can wear the headphones because the language is so bad so she just look around. She's like I'm going to go to the snacks with these. Don't look like good people. We did not play way good. They would just the worst but I want to go back a little into the genesis of forty. Yes it's okay to say we have this neurotic spoke. That's doing this and yes we would want you to do this. But did you have a say in besides doing the voice for it in how this character was finally presented. I mean it was the cool thing. About what Pixar does I've been fortunate enough to do other animation and typically you're kind of separated by this Kinda sheet of glass you have headphones and then no one no one talks and talks you do your thing and then everything goes silent and then you just these voices just talking about you. Don't know what they're saying. So it's a very insecure feeling Pixar keeps you in the same room so it's like you're in the room with the writers and the director the producers of your all in the same room you feel like you're kind of a part of the collaboration that kind of put that energy out there which I really appreciate and so we would try different voices and I was able to ad Lib stuff every now and then but the thing is they no one in the cast read a full script script. We weren't allowed to read a full script so they just hand. You'd pages as you went so I I really resonated with working because I had no idea what was going on. I didn't know what was happening and he's constantly doesn't know what's happening. He's asking questions all the time. I'm asking questions all the time where what's HAPP. Who am I talk? You know so it's like I felt like just Kinda. I was sorry little girl named Bonnie. What am I only flexibility for gases arms? Everything else is just you know he has. There's no flexibility can't even move his feet. He's just a mass. Were you already in listen to that. I said inculcated in the toilet ever were that were nobody's ever said. I bet you did really well on your S._A._T.. That was the only way you ever it came up but I never heard that word in my life well. That's what it is inculcated in the toy story universe breakdown that word. What does that mean it means that have you ever been so absorbed in it that every single thing about toy story was a part of your life okay or never saw toy story movie you said what is this? Oh have I ever done I well you saw them all. I've seen them all. Actually I moved to New York in Nineteen ninety-five to be an actor and that's when the first toy story came out and I remember seeing and being like oh my gosh this is so cool and I never would have thought I would somehow be associated with it but nine years ago as <hes> The for the third one came out and my daughter was four so that was one we really watched Awadh together Warren cocaine and then we're just gonNA use that word as much right now. I'm going to be used to the rest of my life and I'm not gonNA. I'm GONNA claim it came up with. It's yours thank you you can own it and that's it. I'm genuinely we made that just came out of you. Naturally I'm just as well. I thought I might have been doing the New York. Times Crossword decided to throw it at you. Tony God but we need to look at you as forking. We need to see you okay so that we can all become inculcated in you and your your act. Okay these roll the clip so that Tony can speak to Tom Hanks. The Gab began yes. This is Christina Hendricks voices this and she is so fantastic.

"And that's another thing. I want to go into Germany believe Tom Hanks deserves a fucking Oscar for this performance. He's such a good voice actor. He is such a great, great character. Developer score up that he's a great producer. He obviously has inhaled the character. Here's been these Br birth to character in terms of the expressions, the voice, and everything in between. If that, hey, really emotes in this film, people say, it's just animators throwing. But I oversee feed the accidents during the trial in this case, Tom Hanks. He gives a sterling performance, there on new toys, Inness. We have a new bunny whose voice by Jordan pill. We have got a stunt man could Bucher, boom, who is voiced by Kiana raves and anyone who has skipped school saying, you've just picked a flavor to month of Cunanan ridge because he's having a bit of a moment in the moment. He recorded this stuff two years ago. Right. It's just great timing, that all these great projects coming out at the same time, we've also got got Kagan K, who's playing carrots cooled Duckie in this. Absolutely fucking hilarious. And, and yeah, I suppose the biggest sort of new edition. I wanna give shower too is a character called Gabby Gaddi, who is kind of the bad guy kind of not down again too much more details than that voice. Boy, Christine, Christina Hendricks. She's in madman tonight, a few things. And she really does bring levity to the character. She brings an emotional way to this. You think back to the previous bad. Guys have had in these films. I think about soda the bay. Imagine that. But with a far more tender loving an actual driven purpose and date date downs. Actually a good person. I gem really really, really enjoyed this Bill, I do think they've decided to sacrifice the screen time of the original Toy Story gang to bleed in these new characters of the exception of Woody because he is the main character in this to the point where buzz is essentially, an idiot, just a bumbling buffoon in the background, which is quite timing. Wise is probably quite fair because Tim, Allen's idiot with some this study's been coming out with in the press light. Right. So we can it. If subconsciously guy. No. Yeah. You're fucking buffoon at the moment. So that's, that's quite cool. And yet, this film touches on the fields it's twenty four years in the making and there was a video shared or not Twitter account earlier on in the week of how much Pixar has evolved over those twenty four years. And yes, when you look at toys, three one, it does look data this fuck when you compare that to toys three or four that being said is timeless because he is. Time to storytelling. A gnat is no exception with this movie. This is timeless storytelling is definitely in the top four Toy Story movies, if I had to actually rang kit. I've toys story, free Toy Story four, then Toy Story one then Toy Story to that being said, though, Toy Story, two with that song, when she loved me that cuts me. Why song, why song? And there are moments in this, which does bring up water city is. But I don't think it will hit the same emotional causes the previous films did. And now that's a good or bad thing. There is no real peril, Inness film, wherein Toy Story for you really felt it. But look, I'm gonna stop comparing it to the previous movies and just judge on its own merit. I really enjoyed it. It was a great emotion experience. Tiny, how is fantastic. I do think the MVP has the Christina Hendricks. She really, really does in this role and I think she is fantastic. Kiana raves is Kiana raise do Cup womb. Who, who I this thing to an interview the director, no saying, oh, when you when you approach on our is about a row. And we're talking about Kabu and for those Cabela's means basically a stuntman toy and as Canada's famous stunt man, and Kiana arabes during he's I audition for this was just like what is he afraid of? Why is he angry at the world? And apparently he was just asking completely crazy questions, which are exit was not prepared to answer whatsoever. But it just all added to the charismatic charm that on Aries bought to I four..

And he worked his way up to become producer of Pete, Dr directed up, this film, one into kademi award for best animated feature and became just the second animated feature to earn a best picture nomination in two thousand fifteen Rivera, re teamed with Dr inside out for which they earned an Oscar for best animated feature. Additionally, Rivera services picks, her senior, vice president of production, producer, Mark Nielsen joined Pixar in nineteen ninety six is a modeling shading coordinator on bug's life. More recently. Nielsen was production manager on up and associate producer on inside out director, Josh Cooley, joined Pixar in two thousand three as an intern in the story department. He worked as a story artist on the kademi award-winning films. The incredible rutta TUI and up. He then earned an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay as a writer on inside out. He directed Riley's first date the pig. Czar short based on the inside out characters then in twenty fifteen he was announced as the co director of Toy Story for working with John Lasseter when Lassiter stepped off the project in two thousand seventeen toys story, four became Cooley, sold direct to'real debut. Joining us today or Josh Cooley. Mark Nielsen and Jonas Rivera. Welcome. And thanks for joining us. Thanks for how. Here's great. So Josh how did it feel when you found out that your first movie is the sole director was going to be a Toy Story, equal? Oh man. There's a lot of pressure as you can imagine doing another movie. I love those other films so much, and I got to experience them as an audience member. I work at Pixar until later. So just being asked to be a part of this franchise in a huge way extreme her. But also terrifying the same time a lot of sleepless nights, I still can't believe it. I can't believe I got to work with his mazing crew in some mazing cast. And I'm so proud of it film continues his journey as navigates his new life, as Bonnie's toy. And he's reunited with beau peep would all talk about the story and the themes that you wanted to cover in this film jealous God. Yeah. Joe's here. We talked a lot about wanting to sell honor the nostalgia and the things you remember about the first Toy Story, films and things that people have grown up with now. I get push it somewhere really different in shape in a way that made it feel completely new to audiences, but we did look back at some of those themes these movies when you're stripping down. And they're always about relationships and friendships and kind of working relationships. And so I think we built on that I would say one thing that was important to us was transition and sort of renewal in some way. I mean, this is a, a new era in what he's life. He's navigated the waters with Andy and landed on his feet. And so this was a little bit of him starting over, and that was interesting to us. And I think something that's also somewhat human. You know, I don't know. I we talked about we're pre resistance to change as just human nature and without will. Would he be too? And we could maybe dramatize that, so I would take of change and transition was sort of the Matica elements. We talked a lot about fellas do gre- with me. I think that was, I think those beautifully said, you know, I think there's empathy. Also one of the themes in this. I think there's a few threads in this film, where characters are, you know, at first perceived to be one way. But once you get to know them we go a little deeper with those characters. You see that there's more going on with them than you thought and. You know, if you hear someone story, you can really kind of change your perspective in just reach out to them, kind of in love. And so that's part of its. Well, let's talk about some of those new characters let's start with four he. So this is a spark, who was created by Bonnie and is now a toy, but still thinks he's trash, at least initially, and he's always by veeps, Tony hell. Tell us about his design and calendar, whenever we're thinking about toys story movies. It's always about, you know, what are the toy truce is what we call of being toy or how kids play with toys, and one of the things that we've noticed is that our kids will pick up anything playing with it. You know, it's a rock and all of a sudden it's a truck, or whatever it is. And we were joking around one day and thought, well, what would happen if that was in the Toy Story universe, like, would that mean that, that rock is now alive and just those questions that just stupid questions that we were just joking around with? We started thinking what would happen if we did do that. What if we had arts and crafts project that came to life and didn't? Understand anything those happening never seen Toy Story. One. Threes, doesn't know the rules of the world or how he supposed to act or anything. And what would that be like and forecast born out of this idea and the great thing about him, though, is, we realize we can use him as a way to force Woody to explain what it means to be a toy. And also to kind of get even deeper inside Woody to explain how he's feeling was driving him more than he would speak to the best friend buzz. He would open up to childlike character. That's just asking why.

That's funny. I can't help. But no, if you wanna see accurate adaptations, these characters doesn't have it. It does all that. The worst things you wanted has so many tropes in there from superhero films. The dialogue is horrendous the acne it'll give anything they actors to do what they do. Give them to do. It's really annoying just just grown at some of the special effects that will hold up to certain extent. I think the stuff they do have Janis fun even doctor doom when he's flying around the city being a big old metal that's kind of fun, but even but doctor doom it's just a horrendous Ville, and they don't get that actor anything they give him nothing to do. They really just there to kind of go back to formula and all that shit..

"But I got all these nice photos started to pursue my career. And so modeling modeling so probably did about a year of local modeling. And then decided I had enough pictures in a portfolio to go to New York City, and I went around a metal the agencies, and then I moved to New York. What agencies you sign what the first agency assigned with with Pauline 's don't exist anymore? And then I went to Ford I was with I am g. So this was your thing the modeling thing. It was my thing. Because I thought first of all I didn't know that I could be an actor as a profession. I thought I'll always do community theater in the evening. I'll get a job and then at night, I'll do community theater. And I had pre-adhesion and been accepted to Virginia Commonwealth in their theater department, go to that college. But I had such a horrible time in high school that I was like the idea of like continuing education and being still around groups of people just like this is not for me. And when I got this opportunity to move to New York, I just thought I don't know really what I wanna do. But I I know this is closer this is closer to when I write getting me in a place. That's not here New York. Yeah. Well, I mean, like, my my first wife was a model who quit, you know. And like, you know, we talk about ballerinas, but like monitoring's I mean, she had quit because of you know, the expectations on you to maintain. Whatever look it is. But it just it just seems like it's almost inescapable. Yeah. I mean, I ain't disorders primarily, right? I did not go through that year. I think I suffered a little bit of that. When I was a dancer, you know, some of these girls are just so damn young their bodies are like that is there like not developed yet. Like, I was just skinny the girls. I knew didn't work out the models smoked like crazy, drink beer, and like eight pizza like, and then it's going to catch up with you. How often the pizza really I mean, it's all we could afford. We couldn't like we weren't eating nice restaurant, nothing or pizza. I was eating a lot of sorbet. I remember eating a lot of sorbet just because it's what you could afford your. So fuck you up. But then these girls, you know, I I happened to be lucky I sort of slowly transitioned into that. I started doing a lot of commercials, and then the commercials led into the acting in in that so. So I kind of slowly phased out where had I stayed in modeling. I would've gone come up to all of those things like bodies changing things are not the way they used to be. I'm getting older, you know, whatever it is when you're eighteen you don't have to worry about too much. So y'all see you. You're timing worked out my timing kind of worked out. So you didn't did you do like runway shit and that kind of stuff from us a little bit. I was always a little short. I'm five eight. So you never did that you go to Milan and all that stuff or I did I did shows in London, and I did a handful of shows in New York, but I never did Italy or Paris, then you liked it. I loved it because I was traveling for the time I was going out of the country. I out of the country was Japan. Blew my mind loved it work to shoot. I would spend a lot of models go there because you make a lot of money quickly. So it's been a month and a half there each time. So I went there three to hang out..

"It flew well an australian family found a very interesting messageinabottle indeed a family in perth on the west coast found a bottle with the message that was a hundred in thirty two years old dated june twelve 18 '86 tania illman saw the bottle and thought it would make a neat declaration on her book ace the noting site however disclosed the bottles intended purpose german seafarers asked discoveries to record their coordinates and the finding date before returning the bottle and note to humbugs german national observatory or the closest german consulate amazing the note was apparently part of an almost seventy year experiment by the germans it included thousands of bottles and messages discarded into oceans in order to chart currants and find a quick shipping channels over six hundred and fifty notes have been found and returned but the message discovered in australia was the first found since nineteen thirty four e four years ladies and gentleman they are still some floating out there you're listening to now it's the news i'm derrick blair sometimes we like to go a little far afield of our typical political satire and get into some fun stuff and we're doing that with the movie that's coming out this week the name of it is the stranger's pray at night the star is actress christina hendricks she is from good girls and madman and stars in this thriller which opens nationwide this friday march ninth 2018 a christine at thank you so much for being here wonderful to have you with us here at records show the thing about horror movies he is this i i so i i got to start with this question when everyone in the theater if shouting don't walk in that room why did you walk in that room or world the end question right but that's why the like watching a movie we won a shout at them and we feel like we're on a rollercoaster move i don't feel it and they all we fewer don't pay.

"Yes kind of in seaboat it's a show i wanted to like very much because i liked the people involved and even their pieces of the show there are bits of it that i like a lot i think the christina hendricks is really funny in this like he hasn't ability to be really funny eulogies odds something very cool but then you've got like you said there are some of the serious move would step up and is just it is a little oil and water i wanted to like very much ed as up getting to the episodes i just wasn't able to to get their with it it's one of those shows where as a watching it on the screen or sight of seeing the bar little status barki be me update on how far aloma of the show i find myself thinking like i could easily skip thirty seconds forward ed not miss much of what's going on like whenever the scene slow down and that's not a the sought a great sign but i'm not ruling out that it could get better because again the people on this show are very good and may wittment is really funny like she kinda plays the train wreck he carrier on the show and she's really funny and she seems to be having a really good time doing most of it is just it is the only thing has this show moves a lot faster than i think people are expecting until like this is a one where they spent a long time setting up why they get into a life of crime and it's not like this show by the end of the first episode like you know where this is going like this is it goes boohbooh boob and then kind of at the end of each episode you'll think they figured something out and then in the last two minutes something will happen in kind of you'll realize like oh it's about to get worse okay i got it yup our at sometimes it gets worse in a way that's meant to be really scary and other drives it gets worse in a way that stress meant to be a joke amd audited.
