"The six yard line car in the shotgun with Booker to his right to receiver to the left, two tight ends with right now, Waller is gonna go in most middle left, and Witten will split out to the right side. Car points to his right points to his left. Walter comes in motion back to the right side car back to pass looking toward the end zone. He's pressure rolling to his right and he's gonna have to throw it away again, and that'll bring up a third and goal. Christian Wilkins is the guy that apply the heat on Derek Carr. Yeah, He got pressure. He had time initially, and the Miami Dolphins back in their secondary linebacker did a tremendous job of covering it. Everybody up, hitting Waller as he was running that little speeds motion. Knocked him off his route. And then Derek Carr had to get rid of the football jail. Every shard checks in now for this third down, play the Raiders all of six on third down. This is third and goal from the six restart. Will motion out Why? To the right side? Waller is in the slot to the right. Three receivers. Left car waits in the shotgun play clock. Is it five? Are pointing toward the end zone takes the snap. He's back to pass. Looks right. Looks left Rose left. That's part by Renfro, but he's shy. The goal line is gonna be brought down to the two. Now It'll be fourth and gold. Nick need him on the coverage and the tackle and the Raiders will bring the field goal team out. And once again the Raiders unable to capitalize in the Red Zone. I mean, just Boyer, the defense coordinator full of Miami Dolphins. Everybody was in man to man Press. Not here. There was only one high safety and he was only about four yards from the line of scrimmage. And they brought pressure. That pressure got to Derek Carr during car had to get rid of the football early, big stopped by the Miami Dolphins defense. This will be a 20 yard attempt for Daniel Carlson from the left hash. Try to put the Raiders back in front. Lock moving to 37 to go here in the third quarter. Here comes the snap ball is down. The kick from Carlson is on the way, and it is good. So with 2.5.

"Football right now will do so with the man that did play on Sunday His team did suffer loss The New England Patriots and that is a defensive lineman for the Miami Dolphins have played very well in the football game. That's Christian Wilkins. Who had six tackles and a sack up against Cam Newton and the Pats the Dolphin's head back home, and they will open up their home opener coming up this Sunday up against the Buffalo Bills at 1 P.m. Eastern and joining us right now is the man that won two national championships at Clemson was a first round pick a year ago and is now partnering up with capital One is they're launching First Jenn Focus a new national program dedicated to supporting first year first generation college students. And that's the After mention. Christian Wilkins. Christian. Thanks for the time. How you been, I'm doing well, Thank you for having me. No problem. So I followed your college career, and I knew a lot about your success on the football field. But I wasn't all that familiar with your success off the football field as you were the first Clemson scholarship athlete to graduate in 2.5 years you earned a bachelor's degree in communications studies. And then I remember you had that big decision after your junior season. Do you go pro or Do you return to the Clemson program? You elected to return you win another national championship. But you also opened up the door for you. As you really started to embrace your passion for the youth as you started to finish your master's degree, and then you eventually served as a substitute teacher during that season, So take me a little bit about what you plan to do with the youth moving forward and Going back to that decision and the opportunities that had opened up for you. Well, yeah, like you kind of hit on the head on the lot, you know, and Really just a maid like No, you know to your point. You know? Yes. I have a great passion for football and I love it more than anything, and only passing a boy and you know, I get such a great time. They're from playing the game and everything like that. But what? I also was able to find my senior year. Through teaching like you said, When I was a substitute teacher, I was livid upon my love and passion for mentoring, being a person of influence, the kind of just said Passion for helping the youth. And, you know, those two are built by those who were in a position that I was one thing you know? You know, because of the role models and you know the people. You could look up to always important to me growing up, So I try to be that it must go on right now. You know, throughout college, well, college even now in the pose. No. And You know, just Like I was able to just find my passion for, you know, write for the youth and helping people. And that's why I was with the first unfocused program with Capital one. Um you know, I'm able to Continue to do that, even after you even though he had a farm. Now it's almost a wayto get that We'll talk more about the first program, but good problem inlaid with the Hubble and give about used everything like that as well. So I'm going to set about program in everything that is going well. I'm sure when you walked in as a substitute teacher and kids, they look at football players as people that are larger than life. They probably got a real kick out of that right. Oh, yeah. No, They love that. Honestly, I'll never forget the first time like one of the first times walking elementary school class. 01 of the Kent. One of the ones became the gardeners like Whoa, That's one big Mr. You know, I never he's never seen. You know, I get the teacher quite a large Now with me and I, you know I kind of. I kind of got a kick out of that in here and say that in like You know, it just was kind. Almost more positive pressure for me to like, kind of take more pride in do a great job. Just essentially realised the influence I did have, you know being in that position I was in, you know, with all that we're going through since March with the pandemic. I'm concerned about a lot of people's mental health, but especially Children because some Children may not be able to process and understand what's going on you having that educational background and also having to go through AA lot of pressures just on the field and having to deal with regular human events, like all of us as well, Just what do you do You know if someone's listening right now to try to get your mental health in the best spot and get the best version of Christian Wilkins Possible to the world for years, so that you like, so I know you know a lot of it. A lot of what's been going on. And even you know, back in March like now, I'm a little busy because seasons under way, so I'm you know, I'm able to kind of get out go to a facility everyday and package deal on my teammates, But during that time well, wasn't ableto Be around people again. A great opportunity to connect with a lot of people have reached out to you in a while or spoken with. All of this was built great relationships with people and you know, and also find time to work on my focus. Focus on myself do things that I No found pleasure in whether that was working out exercising reading from a new a new hobby, So that's something I will encourage. You know a lot of people to do. I feel like you all of this going on right now. In the world. It's like You really have a great opportunity to find out a lot about yourself and things. You like to do something you're passionate about. You know, not comes. It will come to, you know, just try something new to you like you got a lot of time on your hands. And you know you're not really going out there not supposed to be going out or anything like that. So it was a great opportunity for me to go. You know, fine. And a lot of a lot about myself. Well, there's something new that you you tried that ended up enjoying during all this Well, really, like. Like I really read a little bit more red Hot work works out of books about sports book out about like autobiographies book about Find answers and things like that. I was able to read more than I was really ever ever able to, because of my schedule on things like that, so I was able to You know, there's a lot more Christian Wilkins here with us on the Zach Gil show would get back to Capitol one in this great new program coming up in a few minutes. You had a heck of a performance to start off your season. I know you wanted the victory as a team, but six tackles and a sack up against the Pats, especially in a homecoming for you growing up in the Massachusetts area. What did you take from your individual performance on Sunday, Christian? Yeah, um.

"As always. I'm here with Carter Hughes. We're year to recap the recently-ended Louisville game this past weekend and we're going to start in the most obvious place the embarrassing punch thrown over the weekend when you played for the Tigers, you're expected to live up to the high standards set by Dabo Swinney and this Clemson program, which is why today everyone is talking about the embarrassing day from one Clemson player in particular in that player. Of course, it's Christian Wilkins. I mean, how pitiful is it the throw a punch on a second play the game in to get thrown out your team needs you the Dolphins the embarrassing pitiful awful dolphin absolutely need you their best defensive player and you let the whole team down being bearish Christian be in Bear. Hello Christian who you're talking about right now. Asking you talking about Andrew Booth who you're talking about ex-tigers player. We don't care about him anymore. You may not but I do. Well, there are a couple of punches thrown I'll give you that what are the odds of that happening in the same weekend? Pretty good last weekend. What are the odds of people even know what we're talking about? Probably not if you're wondering orphans play. Yeah, that's a good question. You already heard Christian Wilkins got thrown out of the game because he threw a punch against a bills player, idiot and them and obviously the punch that people are talking about our is the Andrew Booth punch that he threw against the Louisville player and that brings us to the real discussion that we should be having is why the heck as a football player. Do you decide to punch another player in the face mask? I think we go through this every time when there's a fight that breaks out like your eyes, I think it's gotta hurt your hand off more than the guy's helmet. Yeah, and it's only natural. I guess too like when you're upset at someone to want. I mean, I've never really felt this before but to punch someone in the face you want to punch them in the face. It just happens. When you're on the football field the face of that person that you're angry at is covered by a mask of metal. Geez, it was good. He got some moves he pinned him down and down for that was like a n m a is most obvious thing ever. I like how he got what he wasn't even said. He was rejected. destroyed straight to law. Yeah, like, you know, I mean, obviously he was worth it for him. That's right. I will give him a good shoeing out and then he left the field before it was even announced. Yeah that was you know, in all serious. Now that seriousness though, excuse me, that was a bit embarrassing and has been yeah, that's funny as it was did cost Clemson and at that point they weren't a they weren't necessarily going to win that game..

"They obviously struggled with the injuries are any of those guys that got hurt last year coming back or they no longer on the plans, those that guy that was as big as a house. He's gone sitting. Right. I think he went isn't Kilgore. I don't have my roster in front of me. You know, it's may I haven't memorized me we're looking at this roster. We have all sorts of question marks about the edge rusher on the stalled yet. That's a big. That's a big hole right now. I mean dolphins, Jeff charge. What was the criteria for your top? Fifteen hundred twenty-five like how did you rank them since? They're in different sports. Is it just based on field that stuff? I obviously started with a complete list of, of every teams twenty five and under player, which was, you know, probably a total of odd way doing that. You started just crossing people and eighty percent of them. You know you put a big X through them right away. Who's that guy? What? But then you get, you know it was tough to who were the first five out like who are some of the guys that you didn't leave on that you didn't have on here that you almost for example, our will Wilson just misses a cut six years. Right. Jack Albert Wilson's age to he could be included. Of course I did. I did. Absolutely. And, and there were a couple of guys. I included like Uber dough from the Panthers who barely made it were does like twenty five years, and three hundred and ten days or something. So he barely snuck in. He's an excellent player Jess Hct. Yeah. And I put them lower because he is twenty five you know, a part of the criteria on my list is if I've got two guys of equal talent or promise. In one twenty one and the other twenty five I put the twenty one year old at fifteen you had Christian Wilkins, the rookie, just draft fourteen yet. Victor Victor, Mesa thirteen. You had glad twelve you had Josh Richardson eleven. You had Pablo Lopez feel like Pablo's a little high feel like Eck Blad Josh Richardson, a bit of ahead of him from your article directly. You're saying that his numbers aren't, great. He's three and five win loss record with this Marlin seem as never going to be impressed. But he does have a five year Ray, which ain't great do you take into account that he's doing this, the major league level versus someone at the minor league or Greg. Yeah. I do in the Marlins love Pablo Lopez. He's got I think he's the guy with the great right strikeout, walk ratio. I think he's got like fifty strikeouts and twelve walks or something. I mean that's that's impressive. And they, they like him a lot. You know I go a lot by how the teams feel about these guys like I really struggled with where to place auto. Auto and Justice Winslow and Josh Richardson because you could make an argument that any of the three of them have have a bigger future, but and the, the heater in love with bam. Bam and he he's working on the game. They're gonna experience. I thought, yeah. He's working with Chris Bosh, which is very exciting. He's proven himself to be a tremendous ball handler for size you can initiate offense. I thought the really interesting thing was that you put bam over Justice, and as coming off a very good year. I import they didn't make the playoffs because Justin was a little nicked up towards the end of this. He really shined, replacing Goran Dragic and having the ball in his hair a little low. I don't agree with having Josh Rosen, head of Justice Winslow when Winslow is already made contributions, and we don't know what Rosen is. That's yeah. A little that was a leap of faith with me being a believer in Josh Rosen, Justice Winslow, improved his shooting a little bit, but still is not a great shooter. He's a very dependable three points writer. Right. But but overall field go present. What was he? Forty two percent of he needs to get some touch. My biggest beef with your article was you had Laremy Tunsil at number two, and Xavi and Howard who just got paid line with what is the best contract for a corner in the league..

"That he had done, and I told them like I greatly admire what he had done for our sport for the positions in front offices. You know, he's in the hall of fame where he should be an I was just picking his brain. Because you know, he had done a lot of media. And I said, you know, Bill I have a lot of mixed emotions today because you know, for twenty five years I've been the room and now I'm in a different position. And to be care. I have very mixed feelings, and he had a great line as he usually does Adam he said, you know, Mike, you don't want those mixed feelings to go away. Because that means you cared. You worked hard to get there and from a human nature standpoint. Like, that's really healthy. And at some point you should share that with your listeners. And I thought that was. Such interesting insight. So to answer your question, of course, like have you been with those guys for so many years at lie guys that I know really intimately. It was very surreal to you know, here Miami dolphin pick, you know, and not be part of it. I just kept focusing on like, hey. Dan, Quinn is a guy that I'm very close with good friend. How chance to represent 'em years ago? When of the many things that the Quinn taught me out and was he's like be where your feet are. And I think a lot of successful people live by that. So I heard Christian Wilkins his name go off. And I was really concentrating on like I'm gonna try to do the best ESPN radio drap rock cast, and I possibly can do. And that's really like where I try put all my efforts and energy. But when that pick, you know, when they turned in the card, you know, obviously, it definitely resonated with me from a personal standpoint. What was your assessment of the way your former Miami Dolphins team drafts? They took Christian Wilkins in the first round pick number thirteen in the third round. They took a guard from Wisconsin, Michael deeter in the fifth round a linebacker from Wisconsin. A couple of concerts, Andrew van gingko in the six round, Ohio State of -fensive tackle, Isaiah prince seventh-round Auburn fullback channel Cox. And in the seventh round the Washington running back. Miles gaskin. But was your segment of what you former team did their Mike. Yeah, I really like Wilkins starting there. Like, if you go back all the way to Suffield academy like he has really really special sort of leadership selflessness authenticity like people just rave about him. And I remember coach marseils when the lessons he always talked about was the great players have attributes you can't see and how they affect others. And you know, I don't know Wilkins, obviously. But it just sounds like he has a chance to be one of those types of foundational players where he could affect others mak- Fitzpatrick year ago, the player we drafted a university. Alabama was a lot like that. So I like Wilkins in Brian flory's is defense in particular their front seven Adam versatility is a hallmark of that defense. And I think we'll have that sort of football IQ where they'll be able to move around and one week. We'll be talking about him at a classic three technique. I'm sure the move them around on the defensive line all through the year. And he has the ability to do that. So. Sometimes players have a lot of Billy on the field. But maybe not the football acumen to take you know, all these varied assignments. So I think there was a great pick. Obviously, you know, the bigger move that people talking about is Josh Rosen Dreeze your that was their second round pick. And look I like it. I talked a lot about how you know, there's cost certainty for four years. He went on the road last year. Adam he beat Green Bay on the road. It's very unusual for team to trade up three and a five which did in two thousand eighteen and give up on him after year if we look back at Jared Goff. He threw five touchdowns in year one that was under Jeff Fisher, they moved on from Jeff Fisher, Sean McVay came in through twenty touchdowns in year two hundred Sean McVay. So I'm not saying that Roussel's can take that sort of step forward. But Jim Colwell the associate head coach of the dolphins..

The voice of Christian Wilkins, the dolphins first round pick defensive tackle will as we call them. And if we don't probably the most likeable dude in that draft room coming out and jumping. Hi, Roger Goodell. Didn't exactly get what Christian Wilkins was trying to do. But it made for cool pictures Wilkins got up there or we'll because he liked to call them as to be careful. He's gonna hurt himself. Yeah. Especially with those loafers. He's got Sal. So the white ranger reference that you mentioned before it was just a reference to a suit, but he was dressed up as power fellow Power Rangers with his purpose gay. So do you. What do you think like his outfit was a callback because it was white ranger colors with? Yeah. No, the inside of the jacket had the white ranger logo on it. That's yeah. That's so cool. Yeah. As a whole thing that he likes up I was never able to forgive Tommy for how evil he was green ranger. And since I was a red ranger guy. All the way, I was like you're trying to come in on Jason's ground. And then like the pink ranger really liked the green ranger when he started turning good. Good. I was like hold on the leader. Here is the red ranger. And you guys remember a lot about the rain. Do you? Remember the episode where Zach because the team leader like 'cause the green ranger was wearing that that vest of some sort and then the red ranger got to wear for while. There was an episode where Zach to wear it. Do you? Remember, those huge. Remember that flew play. Baseball. No. I don't remember. You know, it was it was raises mad at me. Yeah. Getting ready to strike for that baseball. Hurt again. Share the same thing. Yeah. That's probably that's probably what it sounded. Also like baseball tonight too. Yeah. I didn't like that. He also had is like huge like his body was as big as like the other butts when they all combined green Rangers just born with a silver spoon in his mouth. I didn't like that. They all combined. That's transformer stuff. We'll also have a Power Ranger have your own thing. And captain plan is well was your favorite planet here. With the platinum you can.

"Here. Cuyler Murray should send a little thank you note, maybe to Baker Mayfield because Baker Mayfield showed last year that a as someone who's not that prototype size. Tim can be successful in the NFL and cliff very out there in Arizona is going to install a new offense. And Kyla Murray's the kinda guy that can fit in there. Now having said that this would have never happened in the NFL that guy five foot ten no take number one overall. You think back Michael Vick was he's a little bit bigger, but still this is kind of an unprecedented pick, and it's going to have to be evaluated down the road. The other problem for the cardinals now is still up. Josh rosen. He is still on the roster unable to trade him. I still think they're going to try to trade him. But now, it's a buyer's market is definitely a buyer's market. I thought look I knew they got clip Kingsbury that this was probably going to happen. But I hoped that somebody's head would have prevailed and kept it from happening. All right. Let's talk about the giants taking Daniel Jones at number six wait until number seventeen and got him. Absolutely. They could've traded down and done this. Obviously, Pat Shurmur believes this is their quarterback of the few cherry won't up to start right away behind Eli manning. But I agree unless the giants had information that somebody is ready to jump in there and take Daniel Jones. Here's the issue here. He does have that prototye type size six five to twenty. But if you look at his numbers from Duke, he really didn't improve much over his three years as a starter. In fact, you might say his freshman year might have been best year. So the upside here questionable and the giants fans as you might imagine him not very happy. They never have. Happy happy. That's true. Given that a couple of reasons number one they didn't like the pic. We we know that. But number two they passed on Dwayne Haskett. That's what I don't understand. Yeah. He not not only did they pass on him. He fell into the lap of the Redskin. Which is you know, how that goes in division? You don't wanna see that happen? You might have to play him twice a year. So they've got a couple of reasons to really put this one under the spotlight. All right. Let's move onto the Miami Dolphins. I think this was a pretty good pick a lot of people don't like it. But I like it. I think it's a pretty good pick Christian Wilkins, great defensive tackle. We found out. How good he was when we went out on suspension last year. Yeah. Outstanding player. This is not your sexy type of pick for the Miami. Dolphins who need a lot of help. But this is a guy who's going to be in headline for a lot of years and provide some impact on that defensive line any surprises to you. Well, yeah. There were you know, I really thought the team that was going to be the key to the first round was going to be the Oakland. Maybe they were going to load up and try to move up and do some things and then they hit us apprised pick with number four with Cleveland Farrell from Clemson outstanding player bright. There was another one where you probably go to got him in the fifteen or so range, maybe even twenty but a at again shows the priority put on Dallas Cowboys are going to be looking for these guys as well. The priority put on somebody who can get to the quarterback feral twenty-seven career sacks. He can do that. All right. And we also know that the Dallas Cowboys don't have a pick until I believe it's fifty eight today in the second round in Oakland could trade and get Josh Rosen. They could do that. They could end up doing that as well. So there's a lot of teams that could be in the mix for Josh Rosen. Of course, the Miami Dolphins had been mentioned as as well. Right now. They've got Ryan Fitzpatrick as their starter. Yeah. I know that's unfortunate. All right. Tonio first news correspondent and former voice of the Miami. Dolphins bills ever have a great weekend..

"They're not excited about it. Not looking likely for them to make the pick on Rashawn Gerry. Montas sweat knocked out if you pay but still within their sights Jeffrey Simmons still wasn't there sites. Christian Wilkins very much in play along with guys like at Oliver, join a Williams and Joon Taylor. They'd love to trade now. But they gotta have someone who wants to come back up. And I think they trade down someone like the Redskins giants and the Texans could be possible trade partners. And they can still get a good player. No matter where they land with any of those teams. So you know, what happens? Let me let me throw one thing out about trading down and everybody gets caught up in the draft value chart in at that's a static way of looking at it. It's it's a a framework, but it's not the bible. Okay. So it's not. Take this classroom since where we think there's depth later and in the first round and early second round. That's that's where it would be nice to have multiple picks in there. Those those points. Okay. Quote, unquote, those points from the draft value chart would be hiring a year like this relative to a draft class that say they had ten blue chippers, but the then the death dropped off. Okay. So points are relative. To the draft class that were in. Okay. So we can't get caught up in being shorted by thirty or forty points on the draft value char and just look at this and vacuum we have to look at this. How the two thousand nineteen draft class how we have estimated where the value is. And then have we looked at two thousand twenty and do we have any big picture ideas, where the value in that class is going to be okay. So those things all have to align. So if we happen to trade down, and we get kinda screwed and terms of draft value points. Don't get caught. So caught up in that. And thinking that we are automatically the loser. In that trade what we're doing is. We're setting ourselves up. To to get a coup in two thousand twenty and not to mention we lost the six rounder and the tannahill trade this year. So we're going to look to to get a draft pick somewhere in here. Whether we trade in the first round or the Sackett round. I think we're gonna move down somewhere because we're we still kind of have a crisis bodies here. So we're going to need to kind of bolster what we have right now, you make a good point about trade value in that chart is outdated and a lot of general managers have said they go with their gut. They try to look at his guidance. But they really just go with your gut in it. Just try to make it fear for both sides. Now, the dolphins do that. I still think they're going to get a good player because Jonah let's say join waves off toward most likely. John taylor. Probably at Oliver most likely some kind of weird happens with him. But lots of Jeffrey Simmons guys that will be there in the mid twenties. They trade with the Texans guys that will be there if they trade now with the giants. Christian Wilkins may not be there if they trade now, they take him at thirty. Really why Cleveland feral another one would probably be traded down a few spots. They can get their guy. They can get a good player. Even if they drop down to the low twenties, monta, sweat and Jeffrey Simmons come to mind, especially Jeffrey Simmons. I think that's a tremendous value there. Yes, you won't play this year. But at the giants are truly tanking. It does not matter about this your anyways, let him rest up let him heal up and let them get back on the field as a basically rookie, and you're getting that freshness out of him in and getting that instant production. They hopefully would be getting out of a guy who is a first round pick. So I have a lot of options in their hands on Thursday nights depends on how the board plays out, and what's going to happen. You know for you guys. What would you think is the ideal scenario for the dolphins on Thursday night? For me personally..

Oh, yeah. I feel it's way. He's going to say he's way better than everybody saying who's the guy who's confounded you. Well, let me start the top. Because the first guy I started with I did defense. I thought it was gonna be a predominantly defensive draft in the first round. So I started with the Alabama tackle. And then I use him as a point of reference done with Clinton Williams. I did every other defensive tackle in the draft. Knowing where I felt the point of reference was so do they stand up to him? Well, Chris Wilken stands up to him. I prefer Clinton but I- Christian Wilkins that Clemson is not far off. And there are people that think of him as kicked fifteen kick sixteen. I don't know how they they. They arrive at that. This is a big man, whose I character guy who's the best player in a four man front. That's all getting drafted. So so I like him a lot more than others. Do Oliver was my next tackle. And there's a guy that has in my mind has to play in four three D friends. So if you're a four three team your draft for it's going to have him up in the top five if you're at three fourteen you're gonna have them somewhere around ten because he has game fit. So that's the other part of these things. So I think the tackle group is going to be strong. I think you'll see four of them maybe in the top ten and then then. They'll dissipate awhile. Then by the time we get to the end of the first round. I think they'll be six of them. I'm thinking that's going to be eleven defense of linemen in the first round. So it's a great year for that stuff. Quarterbacks are always a big debate. The Ohio State took a hit in the last couple of weeks. But I think it's media driven. And this is the type, you know, this Bennett was we're all gonna start telling lies if we're drafting we're all going to say, hey, worried about his medical sweats. Gotta hardest to swim as heart issue. I went to the senior bowl they pass them on a physical. He was terrific. He goes to the combine they pass them on a physical. He runs the fastest forty in the history of the combine for defense event. So the story lines are all out there in order for guys to fall right in the lap of someone who's probably thinking I can't get to this guy unless I get a story going. All right, Pat, one more I gotta get this one. I know you've stayed long. I appreciate that. But again have. Having gone through it and been part of it in different war wounds, different coaches in the light. And you know, it leads up to the draft and your as well connected as anybody in the media aspect of the NFL from your feel are we going to have an active couple of days as far as trade's coast years as a handful never know trades, but some narrow more than others and some narrow bigger ones in the first ten picks and others that don't start till the second round. What is your feel right now for how activate trade market and fell draft three day show is gonna be? Yeah. I think it's gonna be very active, and I'll give you a couple of reasons. Number one, there were already nine trades that have been made last year the year before that are into this draft. That players and physicians have been moved around from things they wanted to do in two thousand seventeen or sixteen. So you got that issue. You've got GM's a lot of younger GM's that are just very aggressive and not afraid trade. And they and they they have a relationship with each. Then you have some of the other ones like John Dorsey in Cleveland, and Dave Gettleman have already done a few trade this off season. Oh, Dell's gone and the big guard has gone in. And consequently, they they got a relationship so Cleveland not having a pick in the first round. I could see them doing something again with the giants have pick. So here's how you look at it. I look anyway, there are seven teams seven that have at least ten draft picks. Most of them have eleven or twelve and then there are seven teams that don't even have seven picks. So the guys. Out picks like Seattle. They only have four picks. They're gonna wanna move down. And they're trying to move down and try to get more pick. They want more young players. That's how you make your salary cap work and the guys with a lot of picks are are gonna go. She and their way into positions to get the player choice. You even look at the patriots and the patriots of sitting there, and they got a dozen. They're gonna see someone they want. They're going to go up and get them. And so I think there's going to be a number trades. Put an ember on the first and second round. I take the over under at six. The over and he'll make your day show that much easier that much more fine and Joya tell Mr. Brandt, we send our regards even though you said Kodiak, not as big a Dan Jones fan as you. And I. The battelle. I said, hi, Pat, always great. Whenever you come on. Thanks much for the insight today. Catch the next couple of days covering drafts here. Thanks to have you. Happy Easter Easter you to pack Carwyn, former NFL executive host to move into chains on Sirius XM's NFL radio and also will be a major contributor for their draft coverage. Canyon with you. You wanna talk some NFL draft. You Pat about value versus need it never changes. Even the draft changes in the way, they valuate players and the amount of information out there. The one thing that never changes the Joel debate between value added and filling in eat it's a balancing act that you have to do every single talk about your team your player the guy coming out of your college where he's going into draft. When you do that.

"Ran four nine three at thirty two vertical. Flashed and games wasn't consistent. If you saw them in the right game Stanford game being the best game of his career. With four sacks thought he was a top ten pick other games. He was too quiet. That's wise at six not in the top five. But Jerry Tillery from Notre Dame could be a late first round pick. But he's at six so he's not into top five. We'll go at five Christian Wilkins defensive tackle. Clemson makes it in at five something we'll go higher than that. Something should be deserved to be rated higher than that. I look at him at six three and a quarter three hundred and fifteen pounds moves. Well, strong a professional in every sense of the word. He's been productive versatile tackle end. They move him around gets off blocks and fast fashion. Go sideline to sideline could football. Accurate productions been solid not spectacular player. Not a. Wow you over player, but you'll like the way hustles. It gets coverage sacks. I think Christian Wilkins hard for me to gauge where he'll go. He's going in the first round is going top fifteen or is it going to get into that twenty five range. I'll probably put him right away at fifteen to twenty area Christian Wilkins defensive tackle Clemson at number five. All right. No surprise. I figured we'd see at least one Clemson tiger on this list at five Christian Wilkins, number four on your big board of defensive tackles. It's a guy that is a physical freak at six four and a half three hundred and forty two pounds long arms around five. Oh, five and even even finish. The forty time came up at the end with the injury by would have been around five to thirty six reps. Yeah. He didn't get a lot of sack story, but Dexter Lawrence defensive tackle in at number four. Because of the fact he's disruptive he's got power athleticism. He occupies a pursue. Down the sideline. He got a lot of past pressures that go on notice even though the sack totals weren't high. He had a great freshman year when he was healthy. It's been a little nicked up at times when he's at full strength. He is a force to be reckoned with. He is a guy can play on knows. He can plan a four three. He's got that kind of scheme versatility Dexter Lawrence to me, go go anywhere between ten and twenty solid first round or something late. I I don't think he gets down in the something. He goes ten to twenty at the latest. I'll go Dexter Lawrence defensive tackle. Clemson at number four Clemson at five Clemson at four about number three. Well, here's a guy. You could argue it would have been a two had it not been for the a C L that happened in February working out training and Jeffrey Simmons Mississippi State. Yeah. You had the off the field issue back prior to coming the Mississippi State. But when he's been there, he's been solid. He's at no issues at all the coaches rave about Jeffrey Simmons work work ethic is attitude professionalism since he's been there. Led the team fourth in the SEC was seventeen tackles for loss was a highly rated kid he was a five star kid coming in. I love his eye disipline. He hustles. He's got a ton of talent. I think if he doesn't have the ACLU probably goes mid I probably put him late. I when I do the mock draft coming out March twenty sixth Jeffrey Simmons defensive tackle, Mississippi State, my number three highest rated defensive tackle right now. Number two defensive tackle on the big board. Who is well back in August should've thought he was a lot number one defensive tackle. And at Oliver from Houston six one and three quarters two hundred eighty seven pounds to seventy two people thought he was during the season and got it up the to eighty seven thirty two reps thirty six vertical when he runs at his pro day. He's talking maybe four seven if he does that he's going top ten to fifteen. Yeah. You think about a guy who didn't always finish the sat numbers? But it was a disruptor has got strong hands. He just made place to get sacks. He was at this, ROY..

"They want to out of last three. What do you see in the future for this program? Other than good. Yeah. They'll be phenomenal. And offense those receivers last night the catching radius, and what they did was and what they did all year with tea and Ross throughout the course of the season is just absolutely spectacular. And Trevor is I said to begin this is just unique. I mean, it's just they're very few Trevor Lawrence's walk in the high school football fields and do that as a true freshman, just pretends to tremendous things defensively they've got a front to replace those are a bunch of grown men Paul, and you could say what we recruited. Well, we've got four and five stars that you saw with Cleveland feral you start with Christian Wilkins, you saw with those guys how much that meant to them in tears that brotherhood that they create in that front seven that won't be reciprocated immediately. That's going to take some time. So they're going to give up some things defensively but offense, good luck. Trying outscore them Alabama in a couple of weeks will complete yet another hall of number one recruiting class. I'm assuming you she upward for them as well. Oh, absolutely. They're not going anywhere. I think maybe the only thing is in the preseason poll next September, it'll be cleansed one. It'll be Alabama too. But they're going to be right there. I mean, they're wide receivers their backfield's air to us to still an absolute rock instead. And this may be the best thing as painful as it was for him. And he's not lost since what eighth grade. This may be the best thing for him for the next six months to put him in a position and take him to an even higher level that maybe some of us assumed or thought he couldn't get to Brock. You're joining us from Seattle. Thanks for making time today. We always appreciate you being with us. It's always fun, Paul. Thank you. Happy new year. Pioneer brock. Not some guy that's going to be beholden to somebody who gave him a job because this is his first job. And because you know, he's going to be able to be controlled by the front office. I'm sorry. I. Against that one hundred percent. Yeah. I thought about that whole leak thing when I was listening to Christian Wilkins after the game last night, the Clemson defensive linemen, and he said, you know, this was a tough year. We were fifty and a lot of stuff happened to us a lot of stuff that you guys don't know about. And it made me think about this is a team that won a championship had gone through some stuff, and nobody talked. No, it is a million kids on that team. A million coaches, whatever it was nobody said anything, nobody was leaking something to a reporter, whatever, you know, made me think that that is a group right there that handled it the right way, and as a championship team as opposed to people that are but still I mean things don't get out in college. I mean, my point is that you know, is is echoing your point is that when you're all pulling in one direction, you're all protecting each other's interest. As opposed to protect ourselves been sniping and leaking information, I think the better route the goal is to protect the team. Right. I, but I think also what happens here guys come in. They give interviews and they want to say the things that they think the people who. Are interviewing want to hear and all I can get along with you. This is going to be fine. You're the man you could do this. I'll do that. There's a there's a lot of that jockeying going around to. I would believe that a guy like called a guy like McCarthy, I don't know about case because I still think that he's probably shell shock that. He got fired are gonna want some sort of control of the fifty three man roster not saying that they want to do the drafting, but they're gonna want to control who's planned for them. And I'm telling you right now mcalinden are not gonna want that why because they're all on parallel paths. Again. There's no there's no real delineation as to who the boss is here other than the owner. And that's why I think that whoever gets this job if you are the head coach coming in here, and you are a veteran head coach you better ask for that fifty three control. And those guys are not gonna wanna give it to you. I'm just telling you right now. Here we go round and round and round and round and round again Gomer NGO on the fan and CBS sports network. The way they're built the way there can recruit the way they're infrastructure is our support staff facilities. I think there's four teams that are at any league level these two, of course. And I think Georgia and Ohio State or two teams that are very very similar, and none of those four teams are going anywhere quickly, and they're going to be competing for championships for many years to come. This is really special. Everybody on the team everything. Everyone's sacrifice oughta work we put up for four years. And then it really paid off. This is really special. I can't take Clemson Clemson family. All my brothers enough. This really special. We really did it. We the best over fifty two. No, it ain't nobody taking up. Not only are the best ever this year. Clemson ran the last ten zero to off the clock to finish the game fourteen place with a couple of different quarterbacks in a lot of people on the depth chart getting in. Yeah. I think the Alabama defense, you know, they'd had enough. I mean, it was one of those things I think when Nick Sabin put Jalen hurts in. It was his way of kind of waving the white flag. And I think the rest of the team just kind of followed suit with that Alabama led sixteen to fourteen one minute into the second quarter. Clemson outscored them thirty two nothing over the last forty four minutes, eighteen seconds. Here's a fun nugget for you the last time Nick Sabin coach team lost by more than fourteen points, December seventeenth two thousand six when the Buffalo Bills beat his Miami Dolphins twenty one to nothing behind three touchdown pass. Passes from P Wasserman. No one saw this coming tonight. Total yard is pretty even Clemson four eighty two Alabama four forty three. Alabama finished with a slight edge in time of possession. They were dominating that for a while. But the coaches hit it on the head big place. We saw the turnovers I have to take aways interceptions by the Clemson defense. We saw some big situations. What Alabama did an execute? Those big plays to the botched extra point the fake punt that was kind of an interesting decision that Clemson was ready for it. And I really think and I thought coming in. I thought the Keefer Clemson was good to be can they hold up and protect their quarterback Trevor Lawrence Trevor Lawrence drop back through it. Thirty two times a day zero sacks by the Alabama defense threw for three hundred forty seven yards. And I just thought their ability to keep him clean allowed them to do the things they wanted to be on offense and three times in the second half. They just wouldn't be denied. And. I told him. I said, listen, there's no plan b there is no I mean, we burn the ships. So we're gonna have to take if we're going to get home. And you our guys just had a. It's hard to describe what the Tigers at the heart of a champion is. But you know, when you see you. You don't at don't last year in this game. I didn't think we had that is we had that the tiger. And I've told them all your loan. That's what it was gonna take a man you saw tonight. And I told him last night if we will play like, I think we are. We will walk off the field this time away second. We'll leave no doubt. And so I'm proud of our team. They were a dominant champion a one thirteen games by twenty points or more. They left no doubt. Listen, we're going join moment because I've done this before. And the one thing I've learned is. It's really more an appreciation of the journey and the struggle and the grind and the climate and the relationships that all go into it. But we're going this moment tonight that the good Lord is blessed us with best believe that. But I can't wait. I got my first team meeting next Friday, and I can't wait to get ready to start a new journey, but we're going to George tonight. We got a parade in tiger town on Saturday. Go tigers. And what else you want to know? Senior classes. It'd be jumping around three meaning yelling in tears weeping. What those kids gave to you. They want fifty five games. And and they being another team fifty five wins to go fifteen or no. David. They're the best ever. We're gonna miss them. But we love him. Yeah. It's a special place in, you know, the first time, you may be meet Davos Sweeney's can't be real. He can't really be that kind of a guy, but the more you're around him. He's he's the real article. He's genuine his program is for real. And it's a special place in their special team. Here's the infant sentence. I'm here with quarterback Trevor Lawrence Trevor just describe what you're feeling right now. It's unbelievable. Just worked so hard to get to this point. And. I think just the momentum we go to this year and just the competences team had I don't think anyone really could've stopped it. Just the leadership we had so focused most focusing ever been a part of and it's really just Julius amazing and experience it with this group of seniors is just unbelievable. What is describe your teammates on what this team did to be able to to just absolutely truck? Alabama tonight to win the natty. It starts at the top coach Sweeney. You know, still instill it all the all the right things in the confidence all year long, and these seniors have led the right way. And you know, we just we were so confident going into this game. "Bunch in. There is great power in having knowledge of your opponent. When it when it comes down to that. Because you know, what it was like going against Christian Wilkins, you know, what it was like going against Pierce Bacher and some of those guys. So the be a lot of carryover to me. That's what makes the game really interesting. These guys are no strangers to each other final question. Dexter Lawrence is in the game. We we really couldn't see or or sense his absence against Notre Dame. Will it matter more or and if it if it does how much more against Alabama? You know, look, Clemson is where they are because they recruited great. They've got great depth on their defensive line. Dexter Lawrence's a run player he at one and a half sacks on the year. It doesn't mean that he can't push the pocket and put some strain in the quarterback's face. But they got other guys. Huggins is six foot three three hundred fifteen pounds. He's a senior. They got guys behind him. Now's pinkney. These guys have played football before they're all very highly recruited players. They've all great guy. Great football accurate. That's why they're at Clemson. So look, let's not minimize Dexter Lawrence will be missed as a defensive presence for Clemson. But he's not the deal breaker in the game.
