"Had perceived as my biggest weakness because I am the doctor. I'm supposed to have it all together right? I'm supposed to have all the answers. I should have been in my mind immune to depression and anxiety because I knew it. I mean, that's what I'm traded. That's a lie what it taught me is that nobody is immune not even Christians not even a doctor, but one of the biggest Joys to me is God impressed upon my heart. Over a decade ago, Isaiah sixty-one and that's that passage that says I am anointed to carry the good news to the nation's to bring healing to the sick to release the captives and set prisoners free. He really impressed that upon my heart. Well what I thought that meant is that I might be preaching and teaching and off the way Africa or you know Christchurch New Zealand and I have done some of that. But what I have found is that he has used my books my blog posts my podcast episodes to reach other names just like you and I talking today. That is God's way of me partnering with you to share the good news to the nation's and so that's one way that I've seen in work with the other thing is right now you know this whole year. Everybody's lives have been turned upside down and isn't it? Just like God to release a book called breaking anxiety strip. Just a couple months before a global pandemic. It's we are seeing people who previously never struggled with Cory. Anxiety. They are struggling now and God in his goodness provided a resource and it not my words that make the difference. It's his word in that book that makes the difference. and so it's amazing to watch how God works and it's frequently not how I think he's going to do it and that's okay because I know his way is better, but when I hear people say, I mean even teaching these principles to my children I know this is having an impact then on the future generations and that's what it's all about. It's leaving a legacy not just to my kids but two other children in their generation and hopefully future Generations as well. How can people find out more about your work? The easiest way is to go to my website, which is quite simply. Dr. Michelle be, but I'm also on all the social medias as dr. Michelle. Thanks in spelling is a little unusual the t comes before the S, but you can find me on social media. If you want to hear more hope-filled perspective. You can certainly go to my podcast, which is owned now, I Tunes in Spotify is teacher and Google Play and that podcast is called your hopefield perspective with dr. Michelle Pinkston. "And fear bottom after the March attacks on two mosques in Christchurch New Zealand that killed fifty one and injured dozens we asked university of Chicago historian Kathleen Baloo to lay out some of the ideological fundamentals of the white power movement the notions that motivated that shooter and also the twenty seventeen unite the right rally in Charlottesville Virginia please what is that even me people in the white power movement see a whole number of social issues as fundamentally being about a threat to white reproduction abortion is a threat because it might kill whites children immigration is a threat because of the threat of hyper fertile populations of color over running a white nation L. G. B. T. rights and feminism are threat because they might encourage white women not to bare white children all of this is felt not as a soft demographic change but as a real apocalyptic threat the attack on the synagogue in Pittsburgh on the historic black church in Charleston on the mosques in Christchurch might seem to be prompted by different flavors of hate but actually it's all the same hate all of those perpetrators are motivated and connected by the same ideology the same kind of view of what their violence is supposed to do certainly things like the Oklahoma City bombing Anders Breivik's attack in Norway would belong in that same story doing that would create a different kind of reporting that doesn't rely on the idea of lone wolves but actually does the work of connecting these events together it would allow a different kind of public conversation about what these events mean and it would create a different kind of expectation about what kind of surveillance and legal resources need to be dedicated to this moving.

"This is all things considered from NPR news. I'm Elsa Chang, and Mary Louise Kelley in Christchurch New Zealand authorities are working to identify victims and return there remains to grieving families. Then the bodies will be prepared for burial for families. Pray at the two mosques where a gunman killed fifty people. Their houses of worship are still crime scenes. We are now learning more about the individual victims of last week's attack in part because of the work of holiday doing. He's been. Compiling their stories on Twitter little portrait's with help from their families and friends. They do is a professor at the university of Arkansas, I asked him share with us one story one person. He told me about Husna are up Parvin. She was forty four and married and her husband was bound will we'll chair they too were praying and Christ Church on every day. And then she had noticed during the chaos that the terrorists was aiming at her husband. She leaped in front of her husband in absorbed, the gunshots sacrificing her life in order to save his and he lived a husband, and he lived is there another story that that you were particularly moved by. Yeah. There were several. There was a young Somali child by the name of them Qaed Ibrahim who was praying at the mosque with his older, brother. I'm d- their parents came as immigrants from Somalia this really beautiful wide eyed bright child siblings would talk about how playful he was. I'm Jackie was people in the mosque referred to him as an old. Seoul. Was only three years old and think about somebody that young being taken by terrorist is just you know, really chilling one thing I want to mention is thinking about whether or watch the video of the terrorist posted, you know, part of me was thinking, should I go ahead and watch it to get a better understanding of what these victims have endured. And then when I was piecing together these profiles it was. It was just way too much for me. I didn't wanna see them getting killed. So you started working on this on the same day as the attacks March fifteenth wrote on Twitter, and I'll quote, I don't know the terrorists name, nor do I care to know it. I'm keen on knowing the names remembering the stories and celebrating the lives of the victims. And I was so struck by that because it's something we all I think think about whenever there's some atrocity committed is that we should be talking more about the victims than than the perpetrator. You actually went in. And did something about it. Why, you know, I'm a scholar on issues pertaining to Muslim Americans the war on terror. I came to understand that you know, part of his Lama. I think the critical dimension of Islamophobia is this tendency or phenomenon view Muslim victims or Muslim victimhood at large in, you know, kinda monolithic terms. We're not putting faces not putting names not putting stories to who they are. So what I wanted to do in that very moment. Was the fight against that. I'm curious what you have learned from this project from this work. I think one thing I've learned is that there's a real curiosity on the part of real people, whether it be social media spaces, whether it be on the ground to know who the victims of these attacks are, and I think that the the presumption by in by mainstream media outlets who tend to fixate on the terrorist is that they don't care, and they specifically don't care when the victims are Muslims. But the fact that these profiles are being read globally and have been translated into several languages tells me, otherwise and tells me that this presumption that nobody cares. Nobody wants to know about Muslim victims is not true. Yeah. I love you've given little nicknames to a lot of the people who you're remembering the call one to hero and another a patriot. And another the gentle soul. It sounds as though this is personal for you. And your also allowing the rest of us to react to these people as real people, I want readers to get to know these victims in the same way that I got to know them in the process of piecing together their stories, and you know, nicknames are just a way to to show that these people had real hobbies jobs families friends, the patriot outta Elian whose Palestinian news is New Zealander played for the World Cup qualifying team. He was a goaltender. These people were individuals who had passions and dreams loved ones. And whatever fact I could dig up was in the spirit of putting flesh putting face on who they were. Professor, Colin, and is author of the book, American Islamic phobia understanding, the roots and rice a fear. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. There are an estimated one point two million guns registered in New Zealand. That's the equivalent of one gun for every four people and not looks like the government there is prepared to take swift action to restrict or possibly banned semi-automatic weapons in the wake of the worst shooting in the country's history. "We're talking about the only story you really can talk about tonight that is the massacre in Christchurch New Zealand to go next to Luke and Ontario. First time in Canada tonight, Luke in Ontario. Thanks for calling in Luke, you're next on nightside. Dan, thanks for taking my phone with me way on on. So we always appreciate hearing from our friends up in the north. Yeah. I listen to you almost every night. But I'm gonna not Kirk who's I'm at work. Have the call in and weigh in on this. The. Makes sense out of it. But. Like, what people are saying about lighting candles. Yesterday. Individual. Committed forty nine accents senseless. Violence, evil, forty nine murders. Right. And. For my part. Thanks for the next forty nine days. I'm going to carry out. At least once a day. Senseless act. And caring for another human being. Great suggestion that also happens during the season of lent in into the Easter season, you're religious or not not very not important. But yeah, just. Let's they random acts of kindness and do it. Do it in memory. Yeah. That's a great idea. Yes, i'm. Chris can and uh. I. A couple of Muslim, friends and. These three religions worship Abraham. And god. Of course. Of course. There's no doubt, you know. One of the things that people could do is. I don't care. What your religious background is non religious background? But if you see someone on the street, who you do not know, let us say, you see someone who's who's dressed as a Muslim or or if you're Muslim you see someone who is dressed in a different different light, different style. How about a smile in? Hello. Coming something as simple as that. I see a lot of times where you know, people. And I've done it myself you walk by someone and you don't even acknowledge why don't we as human beings? Just become intentionally consciously a little more. Of two willing to reach out to just you know smile. Hi, how are you today? You know, doesn't take anything doesn't take doesn't cost. You anything doesn't take any effort? Exactly, right. I'm going to put a few pairs of socks in my pocket. And when I say someone homeless. On socks. I'm gonna smile capable. I'm gonna I'm going to term Horton's. Pay for the person behind me. That's a great a great coffee and Donut place in Canada. And also in the US, I guess a little bit. Yeah. We're we're taking over the house too. I think a great defenceman for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Yes. He was married to a woman whose last name was the same as mine Ray, our EA believe it or not. Now that I think about it. That's true. American stadion. I'm anne. Hear about twelve years ago. But I happened to just know that because I looked up and. But I know when I saw the Donut chain, and obviously knew of him as a player with the Maple Leafs back in the Dave kion era, and and all of that. And somehow I saw married into the woman's last name was Ray how're ya? So I'm not sure might be somehow distantly related. I'll tell you this. I like donuts do like donuts. Anybody sees a in a in a Dunkin's and they want to buy me Donut. I had one today. Well, anytime you're up here. Stop through. I'll take you to terms. Okay. Look up. I'll take you up with that. Thank you so much. Thanks for calling. Okay. Talk to you, sir. Connected to talk to you as well. Let's go to Sean, Sean, happy Saint Patrick's Day. How are you? Good. Hi, dan. A Megan the assumption. You might be Irish. So so I hope I'm correct. Yes. My mother's side. I was too. My beard is anyway, you know, I listen to you a lot then and I love your your patients integrate outlook, and I'm on my way into work right now. I just wanted to you know, you touched on something about how these people feel like they're actually doing something. Right. And you know, and and it's made me thank I'm also, you know, a very devout Christian. And I was just thinking about how men I believe man's deepest desire that God whole, you know, is is to be to fill that, you know. And and and so many people. Fill it, which I believe with this allow the wrong things, apparently, which motivates them to do such horrific things coached use them. I don't it's it's horrible. You know, they're just so to see even even in Christian circles people like the preaches taking advantage of people's desire to please God, give me money. Give me money. You know, it's it's horrible. You know, a lot of these. Absolutely. And then you also thought about the wars how many wars have been fought over different name in religion short on both sides. Right. Exactly. And and it just it makes me think about just breaks, my heart that. Were you also touched on the internet thing. And no, I think this guy Steve talked about how like it just seems like there's more. I mean, I'm I'm fifty one. And I do I do it seems to me like I've never seen so many or heard about so many killings. And it just seems that there's so much. There's a lot of desensitization because of the. You know, you talked about World War Two at right after Pearl Harbor, right? But even then people pulled together, I think there was more of a sense of to me in this in this society in America. There's more sense of of God. And and we're we're we've kicked him out in so many places. Yeah. No, I agree with that. But the the the old saying that there there's no there are no atheists in foxholes. Meaning when times get tough, look, I remember all of us. Remember how? In the days following nine one one. We were so United as America. And then over time that dissipates same way after Pearl Harbor. We were so United now I think that the threat was probably greater in in World War Two. I mean, there was a war in which armies Germany and Japan had to be defeated her tons of thousands of of American servicemen gave their lives, and and someone that's what got us out of the depression. I don't wanna get into that particular argument right now. But all saying is that that we'd had worse times. And we we can survive we can we can flourish. But, but it starts on a one to one basis and what Luke said in Canada, you know, just being kind to other people saying Hello saying you walk down the street. What's wrong with that? Exactly. You know? And and as a as a Christian, you know, like I need to remember what I've been forgiven. And I can't judge people. I can't look at them. And and, you know, even like, I as you know is Christians stinker, you know, without Christ. You're you're not gonna go there when you die. Oh, but. Okay. I don't buy into that. Because I think that if. God is the loving merciful. God that I believe he is if there are people who for whatever reason followed a different path. I think they'll still find a way home nine. No, that's a that's a real difference fundamentally and theologically that maybe you, and I have but I did God is bigger than that. And I think that that God will be more welcoming. At least, that's my prayer. Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean, I I mean, I I hear that. I understand that. Then then that would make what Jesus did to no effect. Right. So he he basically did what he did for nothing. No, I don't buy. Into the theology there, I think that Jesus did that for everyone. I don't think that Jesus exactly is looking for. I think that he probably will look very kindly upon people. I would hope who has a faith as as you do and as I would hope to have. But I think that you and I need to be a little more Jesus like and say. This is saying that look if someone. Follows a different religion. Whether it's Islam or whether it's Judaism or Hinduism or Sikhism or whatever. Yes, we need to love that God will love them as well. I Sean have gone off theological. I thank you very much happy Saint Patrick's Day. Thank you have a great night. We'll take a very quick break. Six hundred seven two five four ten thirty triple eight nine thousand nine hundred thirty. I don't wanna complicate it with the tonight. I really don't. I hope you don't either. I'm glad Sean called because it made me think, and I'm hoping you will call and make me think and make others think what can we do to break the cycle of violence. I think we've had some good suggestions. So far. I know there was more. They were more yet to come. Nightside.

"Ben Shapiro show. So obviously, the big news of the day is this horrifying terrorist attack in Christchurch New Zealand against two mosques by white supremacists. An anti Muslim attack in which some forty nine people were murdered as a brutal awful active terrorism. Joining us online to discuss it saga and Jedi. Here's the White House. Correspondent for the daily caller. He's also an American Muslim saga. Thanks so much for joining the bench Pero show. Hey, Ben, basically joy, actually, I'm not for the record. Okay. So join saga. You're covering a little bit earlier today this this attack, and you're pointing out that the and you're pointing out that the media have been doing not a wonderful job of coverage on the sec. How do you think the media article for stuff like this? Sure. And I think one of the most important part is that the attacker he was very very cognizant that by using a gun. He explicitly said this he could exploit second amendment. Second amendment leverage is in the United States, which would blow up this issue in our politics. Turn it into a partisan. Thanks, and that will create a global global controversy. Important right to not play into these types of things that these attackers want, this is an evil ideology. It was explicitly designed in order to bring about a culture war in the United States and in the west and the worst possible thing that we could do is feed into that desire by playing upon the state attacking people be obviously wanted to troll or or or to free political problems for like standard someone like the president. And instead we should be coming together in moments like that. So what have you seen in the media? That's been particularly egregious because I've I've made it a policy that I'm not going to read from this this shooters manifesto because that's giving him exactly what he wants us. You say he says explicitly and the manifesto that he is looking to drive all sorts of racial conflict, particularly in the United States that he wants people to turn on each other. I'm seeing some folks in the media immediately attempt to turn around and blame President Trump to blame. Mainstream conservatives for this sort of thing. I'm wondering what you're seeing out there. Yes. Absolutely. I mean as usual, you yourself have been targeted these things of quote, unquote, normalizing Chevy behavior. Anybody who is supporting the president the president was asked shortly before in the Oval Office, whether he had any or whether white nationalism it was on the rise or enacting his administration in any way. All of these things are exactly the exact response that this shooter wanted us to undertake he actually require references. How the journalists will have a field day with many of the admissions. That are in his manifesto. He was very, hyper cognizant of the media environment that we have today and what he what he wanted to do by airing out. It's disgusting act with have those questions level that mainstream conservative. It's great to typing of environment where conservatives would want would feel so harvested by the current mainstream that they would turn the disgusting violence that he turned to today saga. You've actually read the. Manifesto, you again, one of the things that I find so astonishing about the manifesto is that some so many people on the left are claiming that this guy was some sort of conservative. He explicitly says he is not conservative in the manifesto. And then fact, he thinks conservatives have basically handed over civilization to people he sees as the enemy, and yet the media seem again to be running with this narrative that mainline conservatives somehow an agreement with this sort of evil act. That's absolutely, right. He explicitly denounces mainline. Conservatism has an entire section in which he tells conservative that they will never win with the only avenue is you embrace. It is repulsive race conscious ideology enter works awards and ethno-nationalist state, which the only thing that you can convert is your own racial white heritage. And so it it really is in many ways an utter opposite of any sort of mainline conservatism, he talked explicitly about how he's fascist. Yeah. He you know, total and utter control the statement, he just endorses a lot of ideas, which are completely outside of the mainstream, but many journalists who just cover these issues are so desperate in order to pin. It on somebody who is who to mainland conservatism today or to draw some sort of next with the president. If they don't really understand the actual explicit nature of how evil ideology that says. The other things that people have been doing today is they have been suggesting that for example, he was inspired by kennison's who's mentioned by name. Here's you mentioned. They they say that he was inspired by need, despite the fact that my name is not only not mentioned there. But that I was the number one target of outright white supremacists. Like him in two thousand sixteen but what does not understand about the nature of of material like this because there's so many folks in the media who are covering this piece of human debris who wrote this manifesto for eight Chen, and the manifesto is filled with what people call bleep posting. And trolling what do people not understand about that form of online communication, and it's causing them to deliberately be as little as possible in their interpretation of this stuff. Yeah. That's right. They don't understand the true nihilistic com comedic urge of blank posting. But like you were saying and what they're really comes down to to try. And it's the troll ish action. Trying to lead journalists down a certain path each named and others in this in this document in order to call them political problems because he knew of any explicit association with him would have ramifications for others. And this this type of nihilistic big it black pill outright outrage and outlook on life is something that is difficult for for people who are not versed in this to understand. But it is meant it is meant to deceive well-meaning well-meaning journalists were trying to read this. And they're looking at it the way that he wanted it to be read was as a way to do others into going down the action that he does call Dr. Well saga. Thanks so much for covering the saga and jetty White House correspondent for the daily caller. Thanks for staying on top of this and debunking lot of miss being purveyed by the media in the aftermath of a terrorist attack about which we are all unified, white supremacy is evil everyone acknowledges that white supremacy is evil everyone Goodhart, everyone is heartbroken. What happened in Christ Church? Attempts to divide us along political lines to deny that reality is really really difficult to deal with frankly. Sarah, thanks so much for joining the show. Hey, thanks for having me. Ben one of the one of the folks has been pushing this is obviously Alexandra Okaz, you'll protest she's been pushing this forward. She's been tweeting out the idea that people are being radicalized by sort of generalized online material she links back to a New York Times piece that supposedly links together pretty much everybody on the right with white supremacists. And that's not uncommon. We're seeing a lot of that today. And there's a rightfully a lot of talk about radicalization on the internet. And we've seen radicalization on the internet happen for a variety of philosophies, obviously. Seen people heretical is in the west to join ISIS, for example. Now, they're living in the west. They have no actual formal connection with ISIS. And then they go online and they're sucked into a world where they feel important, and they go and travel over become ISIS terrorists or commit terrorism in their own homeland. We see this sort of thing happened with white supremacism. Also, the attempts to to draw people into evil ideas through these little pockets of the internet one of the terrible things about the internet is the ability to fracture people off into tiny little segments. And then they find common cause the thing about it this way before the internet. If there is a person in your community who believed something truly evil were there. A large number of those people probably not probably there's one guy maybe two people was enough to form a community of support a support group that cheered on these sorts of active evil. Of course, not now that the internet exists, you can find people who believe in anything. There's a market for anything. There are six billion people on this planet, not hard to find people who believe some of the most vile, terrible things imaginable and. Not hard to find a community of like mind to cheer you on. When you do this stuff. Beyond that because the internet reaches so many people it means that the most popular people on the internet reach a lot of people a certain subset of those people are undoubtedly going to believe or do stupid things. And this is what you see in the discussion of radicalization networks you're seeing from the media today. Well, you'll see from the media today is that there is these rather than if you listened to a mainstream right-wing figure that will lead you down a rabbit hole where you will inevitably become a Nasi. Well, that's the case. Then why is it that the most popular mainstream right-wing figures don't have hundreds of thousands or millions of Nazis rooting for them? Why isn't that a bigger broader thing? The answer is because people who want to be radicalized are going to radicalize and not only that people who seek out bad answers are going to seek out those bad answers anywhere that they can find them you what I see happening here. And it really is depressing is the media attempting to complete mainstream conservatism mainstream right-wing thinking basic criticism of radical Islam either. With the kind of stuff that happened in Christchurch today. I'm not just talking about myself. Obviously I've come under fire today. That's not a shock. Candice. Owens has come under fire today. That's more of a shock. Probably to me. I think David French has come under fire of national review. And now of time magazine has come under fire. I'm hard pressed to think of a person on the right who would not come under fire, given these standards because for the left. They they don't actually attempts to link together causality. They don't attempt to link together. How could this idea lead to this action? Instead what they do is. They say, okay. Well, this person in a skewed and perverse way misinterpreted an idea, and then misinterpreted a second idea, and then ends up at the worst possible idea, and then goes out and does something terrible. That's the fault of the person who said it unless the person who originally said something was Bernie Sanders. And so what you're going to see is a vast blowback on the internet. You're gonna see a vast blowback on free speech that is the next step here. And that is deeply troubling and concerning gets to that in just a second. First. Let's talk about black rifle coffee morning coffees in American institution. That's why when it comes to starting my day. I reached for the most American coffee on the market. I'm talking about.
