Speaking & Living the Truth in Love With Dr. Albert Mohler
"Dr miller. Thank you so much for joining me again. You are such a voice of encouragement for me. As i listen to you on a daily basis in trying to make sense of really what can only be described as confusion and chaos. That something that you describe it as often as well whether it's coming to gender identity and the sexual and moral revolution that you talk about so much you're just the intricacies of policy in court decision so first of all. Thank you for that. Can you give a little bit of first briefing. Courage meant to christians who really just want to bury their head in the sand and to not look at. What's going on culturally and politically and just pretend like none of it's happening because we don't know what to do about it. Do you think it's important for us to kind of keep abreast on what's going on and why looks great to be with you. Allie beth and yes. I do want to offer that word of encouragement to christians not to stick our heads in the sand and try to ignore or be oblivious to what's going on because it's not just that we we have to be faithful to christ in the midst of our times we. We have to understand what we're up against there but it's even more importantly out of love for christ's church for fellow believers for our own children and grandchildren need to be thinking through these issues even ahead of the culture in order to be faithful when the culture throws the the next the next weapon at us and frankly they're coming fast and furiously and just love her own children and grandchildren and the determination that they grow up and be faithful to christ. It requires that we be very aware of the things going on around us. i understand. It's daunting and painful. And it's complicated. But the church of the lord. Jesus christ has all the resources we need to confront these issues with faith and without fear. That doesn't mean that that we don't understand what we're up against but we respond with faith and without fear. So that's a good word of encouragement knowing the truth is a good biblical. Principle and denying reality is never faithfulness.

Social media has been radicalizing people for years
"Back in march twenty nineteen. A gunman killed fifty one people at two separate mosques in christ's church new zealand and streamed the whole thing on youtube after that event took a week. Long look at how social media radicalizing people to violence how a troll becomes a terrorist now nearly two years later and after a violent attack on the us capitol. There still seems to be some surprise. That online speech leads to offline consequences and so we wanted to revisit. Some of what we heard that week. Becca louis studies extremism online at stanford. She said part of the process to draw people in is to start with the notion that extremist content is just a joke. Far-right communities online have for several years. Now been using humor specifically as a recruitment tool in fact a really popular neo. nazi website. a couple of years ago it style guide got leaked and the founder of that website explicitly wrote that humor is a recruitment tool because it gives the far right extremists plausible deniability about their extremist beliefs. One of the people arrested at the. Us capitol argued in a hearing last week that he was joking when he said online that he wanted to shoot house speaker. Nancy pelosi for example. Such jokes can be just a first step back in two thousand five with holly mogadishu collagen professor at georgetown published a paper called the staircase to terrorism. Exploring how there can be millions of angry people. Some of them and up committing violent acts. He says the internet can make climbing. That staircase happen a lot. Faster and the radicalization takes place in relation to other groups. It's what i call mutual radicalization and gradually they get to a stage. West one or two of them are ready for an actual violent behavior

"Arizona's news station K T a R news 92 3 FM. It's the Gators and Chad show, Chad. We talked about it all the time, the effects the pandemic is having on people. Studies have shown that in a typical year, one in five individuals struggle with their mental health in 2020. It's not wanting five. It's one into It is one in two. So my church Christ Church of the Valley Love my church. It's ccv. I was there the other day, and they have this great plan to help people right here in the valley. If you are suffering from depression, or you have anxiety, or you're hurting They want to help you And joining us right now is Ccv senior Pastor Ashley Wooldridge asked. Really great to have you on the show. How are you, man I'm generate is something to be with you Tell us about the campaign you're doing. I watched it with my own eyes as I was sitting there in church, you guys air helping folks who are are having a tough time dealing. Tell everybody what you're doing. The mental health pandemic is this thing that I don't think is getting talked about enough and so many people struggling. We just wanted to be a church that stood in the gap. We wanted to provide some real solutions. So press on is a campaign we launched. That's really our rallying cry. It's a campaign to provide tangible help for those struggling with mental health. And what we're doing is whether you attend church or you've never been to a church. It doesn't matter to us. You can simply text forward help H e l P to 7 2020 and within 24 hours, someone on her staff will follow up with you. And provide not only some resource is a listening here, but we want to offer to pay for your 1st 10 counseling appointments to see a professional to get some help, which so many people need right now. How's the response? Been so far? Ah, Pastor Actually, you know, it's our church just blows me away. The response of people texting help has been huge. So today's approximately 1900. People have texted the word help. Wow, Our staff has just done an incredible job. We follow up with every single one of them and getting them the help they need. But maybe even more surprising to me without with our churches. We've asked our church and said, Hey, pain for counseling. Professional counsel is not cheap, And that's actually one of the barriers that keeps people back from getting the help they need. So one of two people starting with the mental health that means someone right next to you right now is struggling. And one of the reasons they're not being healthy is not really sure what to do. But even if they wanted to get help, that can't quite afford it. With all the financial heart holds that around us with Kobe it so Today. Our church has actually repays 1,074,000 and $87 that will 100% each given. We won't keep a dime of that It will all be given to help people get the help they need. That's so great. Congratulations. That is amazing. So would you talk about some people would text it within 24 hours. You guys get back right for and then And then you Start helping them find a counselor. Do you have AH group of counsel's You're working with and then you'll pay for their 1st 10 basically sit down more in today's world zooms because of the cove. It Is that how that works? It is way have abetted counseling that works that we vetted these counselors. We we believe in that We believe they're great at providing help, and so we will just simply refer someone, if that's what they that's. Their next step is getting counseling were first someone to that counselor and we've already worked with all those counselors to say, Hey, here's the paperwork when it's filled out. We're helping to pay for the costs of counseling. And that's just our way of serving our valley during what's a really tough time. So We really hope people take advantage of getting help again. This This is another pandemic that needs to get some more air time so that we don't go into the 2021 with a vaccine that we're helping people with physical coated pandemic. We have to help with the other pandemics going on that this is created. Christ Church of the Valley. Senior Pastor Ashley Wooldridge is joining us. You could text the word help to 7 2020. And the process will begin Where CCTV is going. Tol help you put you in touch. With someone who's going to help your mental health. You They're going to sit down with you. They'll, Zuma's chat says and your 1st 10 will be covered by CCTV. Do you have a story that you could tell us about someone who was just suffering horribly anxiety loss of a loved one or no one to talk to because of being in isolation? Could you share a story with us? Yeah, well, we just got a call from a single mom who had just gone through a divorce, which you know so many listeners right now. You just know how tough that is. The single mom has four kids, and she actually had gone into a clinic recently because she's addicted alcohol. And when she came out of this detox center again, she's a single mom for kids When you come out of detox, what do you do then? She called it and just said, I think I need some help to deal with the reasons that I was addicted alcohol because one thing to go to detox. It's another thing to actually deal with the issues that may be led you to turn to alcohol, and so we were able to connect her with a counselor, and we're helping her right now helping her pay for the cost of council man and it's It's a great story. How long did it take you Two guys to come up with something like this. Was this the thing that you wanted to do when the pandemic started, or was it? You know, I saw the middle, the pandemic that we've got all these people with mental health. We got to do something. You know, you know, get a suite. We have this incredible team at CCB. When we really started dreaming about this really back in August, our team went to work. And you know that the level of work that they've done to pull this off the amount of details that takes the line that many counselors and put the whole program together and put the text functionality and then Church to raise over a million dollars is 100% he invested in people's mental health. We're just proud. We're proud and also grateful for so many people that have stepped up to help. If you're struggling, everybody struggling. This is the time when you reach out now come out to be a member of the church could be anybody who's struggling and CCTV is gonna help. Yeah. That's right. Like we like to say, you know when, when times seemed darkness, that's when the light and shine the brightest. Our valley needs some light these days, and we just wanted to help you are parts of shine a bright light in our city. So simply text the word help to 7 2020..
Loved Labours won: landslide in New Zealand
"This weekend New Zealand's Labour Party swept to a fairy-tale victory stunned. Prime Minister. Justin. The are dern beamed as a rapturous crowd applauded beginning her speech with a thankful molly reading. In. In tongue it Athena what? dern promised a big tent kind of administration. For every New Zealand has never been so important more than it has been now. We living in an increasingly polarized world a place where more and more people have lost the ability to see one. Another's point of view having come in for criticism during the campaign on failing to address housing shortages and poverty. She acknowledged there were difficulties ahead. Over the next three years. There is much to do. We will build back better from the covert crisis. Stronger. With an answer to the mini challenges New Zealand. Already faced. Challenges or no the scale of the win came as a surprise even to her supporters. The easiest way of describing is that it was unparalleled in modern history. I wonder why it had Austrailia and correspondent say the Labor Party which has just endured dance policy one, forty, nine percent of the and that was compared to nearly twenty seven percent for the main opposition, which is called the national policy, which is conservative that is the best result Labor's result for any policy since the fifties and it gives it a majority of seats in parliament, and that is the first time that any he's been. Able to govern on its own underneath. Zealand. System of proportional representation which has been in place since one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, they were winning in both provincial rural conservative strongholds, ondon rich city areas, and to give sense New Zealanders vote for both the preferred party and an MP on their ballots and labor top the preferred party votes in sixty eight of its seventy constituencies really astounding result for them and what was the the campaign like De Campaign was focused on pretty much only one subject which was the government's response to the coronavirus. It was really a referendum on how the government and I think in voters is particularly prime minister has responded to the virus that response was to shut down the borders, I to China, and then to the rest of the world and then to rally support. For, what was a very, very strict lockdown in New Zealand at the beginning of the pandemic and say, Bara brief surges pretty much. Succeeded I. Need Twenty Five people have died and that was really what the campaign focus on the fact that life has been able to return and roughly to normal people are eating out people cramming into restaurants and their normal numbers. Forty six thousand people watching rugby match against Australia, this weekend. So the campaign was very much focused on that response and the opposition kind of found it quite difficult. See Find Ground on which to oppose the government, and so the scale of that result then is just a reflection of how satisfied everyone has been with the response to the pandemic. That is the singular issue of its left remembering that before the pandemic hits. Labor a was looking the polls. The suggesting that Labor was on track to lose. This election would have been a one term government, which is not very common in New Zealand central a being. Overseas particularly, for the way that she responded to the Christ church terrorist attacks, they were much last year when these two mosques were attacked by a white supremacist and she was obviously hailed. The way she united New Zealand does after that and staunchly defended immigrants but adulation wasn't really reflected back at home until the pandemic has. So was this a vote for her or a vote for the Party and it's I think it's got to be with her and not a great deal to do with the Party and its policies. So it was a campaign that was thin on policy on both sides update from national and Labour but I think it was a set of referendum on the prime minister's response. To the coronavirus even historisches appointment submit that she's a very gifted communicator particularly in times of crisis and young people particularly look to her. She has a kind of unpretentious approachability that I think that a lot of Kiwis light and political analysts in New Zealand will say that it's very much a politics of personality though she wasn't always popular home as she was overseas. I, think that Kiwis do derive a kind of sense of pride from hug label standing as well. So in a way that has served her well at home. Speaking to damage he said that her brilliant lies in the way she plays into their sense of exceptionalism. In key, we always liked to think that set apart by more than their geography and they punch above that waits. But what about apart from the personality and crisis management and so on. What about sort of kitchen table politics? This is. Just. On the Labor government comes in for a lot of criticism because when she came to power in two thousand seventeen. Labor was making a lot of very lofty promises to do things like reduce child poverty it was going to end homelessness in New Zealand. It was going to build one hundred thousand affordable houses in ten years. Of generally make New Zealand to Faira Besser country and it's pretty much failed to deliver on every single one of those things. The Prime Minister's critics point out that almost counts of poverty and social inequality museum and actually heading quits. Houses are increasing at the moment in New Zealand increasing through the crisis. So this is a big big criticism of her detractors that she is a great at moving motivational speeches, but quite a poor Administra- certain hasn't actually got much done. So that might explain why this time around the world kind of such lofty promises it was rather more timid. But. She's still got a strong base of support is on the left who are GonNa be expecting her to do a lot more particularly now she's not in. She's she's not having to form a coalition particularly now that she can govern on her own and so to your mind the the big difference then between the first term and this coming second term is that she that Labour will be governing alone. Is the big difference with governing Elaine comes a lot more responsibility. There is still a chance that Labor form some kind of coalition with the Greens will they. They don't need. Them might be handy have degrees inside the government say they're not handling the sidelines said that could either be a formal coalition or a more informal arrangement in which the Greens folks with Labor early onset issues. So a much stronger position on a lot more pressure within this time around. But what about fulfilling all those promises in light of the economic situation? I mean new. Zealand certainly must have suffered economically from the pandemic if not quite so much as elsewhere in terms of the human cost, it is in a recession. Now the economy is going to contract by about six percent. This year unemployment is rising the wage subsidy that is coming off. So Wild New Zealand has done very well at keeping the virus out there going to be lots more questions about what that has caused it, and how it is going to drive a recovery how it's going to get out of that mess. The Prime Minister says that there is a plan for recovery which includes things like building lots of roads but to her pregnancy looks quite incremental. They out there in no big plans for tax reform for example of just third some income tax hikes. But only on the talk to percent of workers say theoretically might think that with such strong majority, they pressure more radical agenda but there are many people in New Zealand see that. So to be so popular, you've got to be fairly uncontroversial owner. Thank you very much for joining us. Thanks, Jason.
New Zealand's Ardern eyes COVID rebound after landslide reelection
"On the campaign trail, there's a lot of love for the incumbent lots of cheering and selfies without masks. Last week had zero cases. It's a point of pride you can hear in this exchange between our dern and a local reporter. Starring in its I've seen I. Think. Macro. Small starting you can also chalk up our nurse popularity to her quick policy response to a terrorist attack by a white supremacist in Christ church. A national ban on semi automatic firearms. Youth is also a factor are during became the world's youngest female head of state when she was elected three years ago at age thirty seven and she's only the second head of. A modern nation ever to give birth while in office. New Zealanders have other matters to decide tomorrow as well. They're voting on two major ballot initiatives. Voluntary Euthanasia is expected to pass and the legalisation of a market for marijuana that appears headed for defeat are during the said she has used cannabis but won't say how she'll be voting here. She is at a recent debate. The public of New Zealand to decide this and I want that's not to be about politics you so are voting referring to and all we giving my answer after the election after his decided, we should know her answer and New Zealand's decisions tomorrow.

Your Pursuit of a Better Body and the Perfect Diet Is Never Going to Make You Happy
"Welcome to the show folks I have today. Actually, an old family friend of mine Doug Wilson, who is the Minister of? Christ. Church in Moscow Idaho, Church that I attended through much of my childhood and also during college and still visit quite frequently whenever I'm down in Moscow Idaho which is only about ninety minutes from from my home in Spokane, and so I've I've known Mr Wilson for quite some time and he actually had a stint in the US Navy for a while. and. Then he attended the same university that I did University of Idaho ever while I got a glorified personal training certification he studied philosophy, and since then went on to do quite a bit notably, he he helped found and now serves on the board of Logo School, the school that my wife attended, which is a classical and Christian K through twelve school down in Donna Moscow he's also the senior fellow of theology at New Saint Andrews. College. In Moscow Idaho, which I would consider to be One of the better liberal arts institutions in the country actually end quite close to the coffee shop that my mom actually runs down in Moscow. Idaho and so I'm familiar with a lot of the students that go to that university as well or or that college as well a he has authored many books Mr Wilson is a prolific author and and his books are fantastic. He has A. Books on marriage on on child rearing on on I absolutely love his his titles on raising boys just because I have twin boys myself some excellent books on Christian Education his son Nathan Wilson. You might also be familiar with as as a as a well-known fiction author and all a link to to all of his books as well as everything else that we talk about if you go to Ben Greenfield fitness, dot com slash Doug, Wilson and. Doug also has about a metric ton of grandkids spread across the planet with what seems to be rapidly increasing frequency, and so he has a he has a lot of a lot of children out there bearing his name as. and so it the the topic that I really wanted to get into today is related to a book that Mr Wilson wrote called confession of a Food Catholic. I'm also going to link to that in the show notes as well because I I really really love to get. Your perspective. In by the way, I seem to be going back and forth between Doug and Mr Wilson, what do you prefer for for the show on Doug is great. All right. That's GonNa that's GonNa shorten the syllables I gotta us. All right. So so doug, you wrote this book called Confessions of a Food Catholic and and I know that you've also done quite bit of thinking about how we tackle this. the this relationship between health and fitness and pursuit of a better body and caring for our bodies and carrying for God's Temple but at the same time. Not kind of a sliding into into a selfish obsession with with our bodies and with health or with longevity or anti-aging at all costs, and this is certainly something that's been a a topic on my mind quite a bit lately and so. the this book confession of Food Catholic that you wrote with you say is dedicated all those at church dinners. I noticed didn't have enough protein on their plates and tried to cover it up by noticing I didn't have enough Greens on mine. Let, let's start here what what is a food Catholic and how would you describe yourself as a food. Catholic. Great. Thanks for having me on. This is a great opportunity afoot. Catholic is someone who believes that all foods are acceptable for us to eat with regard to our spiritual condition. In other words, I cannot put distance between me and God through anything I, put my mouth or I. Can't be put right with God through anything that I eat what I've noticed, and the reason I wrote the book is that many people feel they eat they feel a spiritual guilt either they feel if they eat poorly, if they missed the regimen that they assigned for themselves, it's not like, Oh, I failed to do the extra push up. It's there's a spiritual guilt that many people feel. And what I wanted to do was go to war with that sensation of guilt with regard to what you eat now if someone said yeah. But if someone had a a diet of deep fat fried twinkies and that's all. That's all they ate wouldn't that be bad for them or yeah it'd be bad for them. It'd be bad for their physical wellbeing is not healthy, but they're not corrupting their soul by means of the twinkie. Now, they may be corrupting their soul by means of their lack of discipline but that's a different issue. It's a different category. So we have a tendency to blame when we have a moral failing or. A spiritual shortcoming, we want to blame the stuff instead of addressing the root spiritual issue, which is your relationship to God i. think it's far worse to be fighting with someone over what they you go out to lunch with a friend and you spend the time quarrelling over what they ordered instead of just enjoying the time with your friend, right so so you're saying basically, is that sometimes the the legalism or the Self Righteousness That we get with with a lot of these laws that we set up for our self regarding food whether it's you know I'm going to be gluten free or I'm avoiding carbohydrates or I'm I'm not consuming vegetable oils because those aren't good for my body. What you're saying is that is that what you would care more about is not whether someone eats organic or processed food but why they're actually making those decisions exactly. So if What somebody else eats is frankly none of my business they're the one asked to eat it is their lunch they ordered it e if you want a a meal that's higher in fiber are lower in fiber or you need gluten not there or you maybe earth counter countering you order extra gluten. Right. Fixed. Diluting powder but we actually call that soy sauce. So. So you use this term in the book called the Food Pharisee, which is great. The P. H. O. Food Pharisee. And you describe these food pharisees as those who who would be unwilling to bring their food laws before the Bible to be examined and and said, that's a topic that Christians really need to think through biblically and when you get into this whole concept of a food fairs lifestyle, what I'd love you to do if possible is telling, you told me what you would describe a food Baresi. And then get into some of the issues regarding I. Think you break it down into into five different issues that this food pharisee lifestyle could be described as. So if you bring your food if you. Say Okay I want to compare how I eat to the Bible I to bring my food choices in the Bible. There's good news and bad news well, good news and bad news for the Food Pharisee. The good news is that whatever it is you're eating is fine. That's the good news. The bad news is whatever it is. Here's David Panter Crucis especially was so filled with loathing for Latino people that he didn't see them as human. When David reads the manifesto, he can immediately see the fingerprints of other white nationalists. Here's how crucial this opens his manifesto. In general, I support the Christ church shooter and his manifesto. This attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas. They are the instigators, not me. I am simply defending my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion. That opening line is a direct signal back to a previous act of terrorism. The shooter who killed 51 people at two mosques in Christ Church, New Zealand just months before David says This is part of a trend. One terrorist inspires another and the cycle continues. Guillermo says he didn't understand all of the references at first, but it was clear to him that the manifesto had ties to a larger movement. I think he was trying to show that somebody had to take action and that really angered me at that point. Why would somebody come and shoot innocent people like that? David says Crucis started doing online research because of the anger. He felt over how the country was changing demographically. But it is not welcome here violence and extremism in all its forms. Is not welcome here in the US. There was an echo last week or the violence in Christ Church. Someone set fire to a mosque in Dido, California near San Diego and left behind graffiti that referred to the attack in New Zealand, Dustin Krahn leads the sandy O'Brien San Diego branch of care the council on American Islamic relations. I asked him what had happened. So there were group of worshipers actually staying the night in the mosque and a form of spiritual retreat at around three. A m they started to smell some petroleum outside the mosque of really strong spells petroleum. So they went outside, and they saw these people who had spread something on the mosque. And and we're trying to light the gasoline on fire, and then they ran away. And so they scare them away. And then they put out the flames against the mosque. And it was because they were staying the night in the moss that they're actually able to put out the fire. How is the community Eskin Dido doing Muslim and non-muslim like it was actually a really beautiful gathering that night where? There about two hundred and fifty people who came out a large group of Muslims. But really it was a lot of people from the neighborhood a lot of people crying and just saying how sorry they were that the community has to go through this. And so it was a good interfaith moment of former group healing where the community was saying we're stronger than than hey in the central mosque in San Diego this lung center, San Diego had so many flowers that it literally looked like a flower shop hundreds and hundreds of like hundreds of bouquets of flowers delivered over the period of the first week after the Christ Church massacre after the massacre Chrysler, should you feel people in San Diego and the area are more scared now, I mean as Muslims we believe in God. And we believe that our destiny is with God. And so I don't think people are necessarily fair for the mosques, whereas packed as they always are the Friday after Christ's church. And so I think that people have a heightened sense of awareness that white supremacist may want to attack Muslims, but that we believe that will protect our congregations. Than will stand as a community will stand with our interfaith allies here in the Boston area. We've noticed an uptick in security at mosques. I just saw a Cambridge police cruiser in front of the mustard and my neighborhood to your knowledge. How is moss security adjusting on the west coast, especially since the Christ Church attack? Yeah, there's been large police presence at mosques around the San Diego area, especially post s can Dido. A lot of congregations are also having conversations about how they protect themselves the type of security systems, they have in place people have considered hiring armed security guards as well. You're actually at a conference a care conference Dustin in Washington Hauer, the people there the attendees kind of talking about this. What's the conversation like post Christ's church, and and this new kind of concern, we really believe the time is now Iran as Slama phobia in the United States to really go on the offensive. We have to start naming names who like the what one of the things that was really interesting who didn't show up for us. San Diego post Christ Church, right? There was no call from the mayor of San Diego. There was no calls from a number of congress people's offices.
