Is Mitch McConnell Rigging The Game?
"Other news, there's the other branch of Congress or the other house. Of Congress. The Senate and everyone knows their Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell is unshakable and ruthless, and he's going to maximize his power however cam, but it is also the case the death of Justice Ruth Bader GINSBURG has taken us to uncharted territory. There are very real political pressures that are going to affect how the next several months play out. Mitch McConnell does not care about being charged with the Crisi but the raw politics of this moment themselves are not uncomplicated. As it was with the affordable care act remember Mitch McConnell had a lot of bravado about that and he failed famously and humiliatingly to replace the law. Here's mayor discuss across pressures. He faces longtime McConnell Allah Gist Jane Mayer Chief of Washington correspondent New Yorker wrote an incredibly insightful profile McConnell back in April this weekend row quote from Mitch McConnell keeping a Senate. Majority matters more than the Supreme Court. Jamie. It's great to have. Let's start with that because it seems to me there's two imperatives here. Everyone says about McConnell the two things he cares about is keeping the Senate majority and being Senate majority leader. Judges the Federal Bench, and there is a way to interpret the politics of the moment that there's a little bit attention between those two imperatives. How do you see it? Well, I mean there is I mean he wants to get obvious wants to hold the majority wants to stay being majority leader. And, this is going to be the crowning moment of his career to have yet one more justice on Supreme Court here we can get him through and he's promised trump of course that he's going to have a vote on this, and so how do you do this the problem? The problem for McConnell is it's unclear if he can keep the majority in the Senate. It's a dicey election year for him. There are a number of racist. They're very close and he doesn't want to do anything that's going to hurt the endangered members of his caucus. So he's got to try to juggle the schedule in some way that doesn't put those members on the spot in a way that will hurt them. So he's the first thing he's going to do an, and surely his done is canvas. Those members find out exactly how they feel about how this this process would affect their races. And then, and then way that in terms of whether it be better have a vote before or after the election. So. It's it's. It's. It's it's tricky but he is nothing if not clever about things like this this is he he? Very early on in his career, he ran for office from a district where he hadn't been resident in residence long enough and he vowed after that, he would never again ignore the rules, and since then he's become kind of a master of the rules, the more arcane the better. And he just he loves talking to the parliamentarian in the Senate and figuring out sort of the the most devious ways to get what he wants. The most sort of obvious pressure here. Just talking about this and I think it's pretty interesting. There's a bunch of folks who are up. In who are imperilled where it's not clear That going ahead with this would be helpful them. We have a bunch of pulling out today showing majority of people oppose it. Those numbers will probably change as they converge towards the polarization and everything else. But like Cory Gardner is down in all the polls and Colorado, he's in a state that Democrats have carried. Now a bunch and plan to carry again Martha. mcsally sally is down a to mark Kelly. You know they're on the sort of aggressor side here in terms of public opinion. It does seem like they've kind of don't care. It doesn't seem like there's a jump together mentality here in terms of getting them to come out whether it was him or not a publicly for those. Well I think. He's GonNa. Be Looking at McConnell will look at each of these races and I think you can almost imagine that he's written off. Gardner in. Colorado, and makes out the in Arizona. So he's not going to change his plan just for them unless he thinks it's going to save them and you'd probably thinks it won't save them and he's already given collins kind of buy in Maine. So it gets you down to the racist that are really going to matter in this are probably it's it's probably Tillis in North Carolina, Joni Ernst in Iowa, and Danes in in Montana, and if McConnell feels that those three or not endangered by going head, he may just gun it. You know and and try try to get I think though that in addition to just thinking about each of these races and how it affects each of the races, there's something else. He's probably got to think about, which is the overall look of this thing if if it appears to the American public that he is one set of rules for Democrats and there's another set of rules he's got for Republicans here, one Senate rules for America and another set of rules for whoever trump nominates at this point, it looks like he's reading the game it looks corrupt. It looks like a naked power, grab an and it's ugly and that could actually create a backlash I think that both he and trump have to think about. It it might really bother a lot of people in this country to think that that it's it's just too corrupt game in Washington. Yeah, I. think that's a correct reading of both where the polls are and the political risks they run and I think it's notable that McConnell has committed to vote but not win and I thought. This was also notable. He wrote this dear colleague later re basically says I don't say anything don't lock yourself into position. Let it give it give us time to work over the coming days. We're GONNA come under tremendous pressure from the press to announce how he will handle the coming nomination for those who are unsure how to answer for those inclined to oppose giving nominee a vote I urge you all to keep your powder dry Dombrowski and collins. Have not heeded that but Mitt Romney said declined today saying anything I know Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania I fully expect will support moving forward. But that that to me, it was interesting because the timing here and the sort of needle to thread is not nothing I think we'll try to do it and the odds are in their favor they will. But because of exactly what you and unseeded from the political standpoint, it's not clear that this is help for them politically in the short term. I think it may not be I. Mean I think also it's going to energize the base on both sides here for and the thing is that when it comes to the energizing the base, the base that needs more energizing really is probably on the Democratic side and you've already seen it happen I, mean look at the amount of money that act Lou raise you know practically overnight a hundred, million dollars two, hundred and sixty. Now it's one hundred and sixty million dollars. Shipping shocking about money. Shocking money an and I think the other thing that it might do is from was doing some reporting two days. I think it may really energize kids younger voters because. You know they were kind of holding their nose, a lot of them about Joe Biden it wasn't an exciting. It didn't seem you now like there was that much reason to do it. Now there's a reason that a lot of young people are GONNA see they're gonNA look they're gonNa see Roe v Wade is in the balance they're going to see a four Bul healthcare act and possibly anything to do with insurance for preexisting conditions and they're looking at the future this is going to. Their. Lives for the this is a this is a decision that has tremendous implications for everybody in the country and it's GonNa be clear and so I, you know it may turn you know help turn out. The Democrats who were young. Six three Roberts court climate. Regulation jurisprudence. A. Favorable to the kinds of solutions. That are necessary. Do you think? Ultimately McConnell himself is up and I don't think he's. He's personally a lot of trouble against say, McGrath at least the pulling now but there are also just a bunch of seats that weren't supposed to be in play that really do seem like they are. There's A Texas poll that has cornyn barely up. There's a Mississippi poll out today that has. Chrissy Hyde Smith a just a few points on Mike espey. There's the Iwa Joni Ernst race I mean it's wild how wide the sort of battlefield has gotten for him to try to hold this thing together. It's it's really volatile and and and the thing is it. What it does is it puts the Republicans on the spot about they've been doing kind of a split that's broader and broader that gotta keep the trump face and and but that's not enough for in many places to get reelected, and so they've got to do is add in. The moderates the you know suburban women particularly and got a candidate here who for a nominee for the supreme court that is truly the choice of the evangelical part of the trump ace it by very much alienate moderate women in the suburbs and in other places especially over things like abortion where sixty two percent of the people in this country saver. Abortion. As keeping it legal and don't WanNa go backwards. So it's it's. It's I think it's a it's it's a it's a it's a risky thing for some ways. You people think it's all into such a gift. Not, necessarily think that's right. Read on the situation Jane Mayer thanks as always great reporting and inside appreciate it. Great to be with you.

What is QAnon? What We Know About the Conspiracy Theory
"The rise of a far-reaching far right conspiracy theory once finding a haven online and now expanding its footprint into the real world. Here's nightline co anchor giudice. Boston Massachusetts a rally protesting a flu vaccine mandate. But blending into the crowd something else a Q. Symbol. Here, it is again in Minnesota? Greeting the president at the airport on his way to a campaign stop. And here at a lives matter rally in Brooklyn. What's everybody? Particularly, you as you as. A wild conspiracy based movement known as Cunanan. They first appeared in the public eye at rallies two, thousand, eighteen tomorrow headlines. Massive protests. Their profile slowly growing over the last two years culminating with this moment in the White House two weeks ago. The president being asked directly inside the briefing room. Thank you very much about those Cunanan on supporters. Of the theory, it is this belief that you are secretly saving the world from this site. Cold. Pedophile and cannibals does that sound like something you are behind? I haven't heard that but. Is that supposed to be a bad thing or good thing. If if I can help save the world from problems willing to do. The letter q may be one of the least US letters in the English language but for followers of Cunanan or q anonymous theory, it's a doorway into something called the deep state. A baseless idea that claims a secret powerful network is working to promote its own hidden evil agenda and the Donald Trump is doing all he can to stop. The movement. Now leaping from Echo, chambers of social media to headlines in the news it's called q a Non a fringe conspiracy theory tweet of an article by Cunanan conspiracy theorist Cunanan's grown so fast. And it's caught fire with followers all over the nation. Inspiring a few to take dangerous actions. Uploaded on social media leading them to be charged with major crimes. It's even attracting would be politicians. Q.. Is a patriot. He is someone that is very much loves his country Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia won her primary last month all but assuring her seat in. Congress receiving a congratulatory tweet from the president himself. Nineteen Republicans running for office express some sort of support for the Q. Theory according to the media watchdog group media matters the broad narrative Cuban on the world's controlled by. The ball of Satan worshipping files, and this could ball they control everything. This includes the media and entertainment and politicians they'll start. Travis few has been tracking the group since its inception hosts, his own podcast called the Cunanan anonymous podcast. There's nothing wrong with believing Chrissy things necessarily crazy conspiracy theories about bigfoot area fifty, one problem is that these these these people they're being radicalized in the sense that it becomes a major part of their life followers believe that q is an actual figure or figures within the US government holding Q. Level Security Clearance Q. is a real clearance level within the Energy Department. But from there, the story leaps into dark and outlandish places. For example, they say that q communicates with them by posting cryptic ciphers online because he has access to all the deepest darkest secrets in the US and wants to expose them. This includes wild fake theories of prominent politicians running a child sex trafficking ring or the JFK junior was assassinated by Clinton these far out claims run the gamut. But Jared Holt from right wing watch an organization that monitors wing extremism says, these claims have now begun impacting reality. What the Cunanan on movement does is they take that grain of truth, warp it and twist it into their existing worldview narratives. It's a movement that has inspired some of its followers to commit really egregious criminal actions. So trump's statements about on speaking favorably of them I fear as having watched this for so long is incredibly dangerous. Cunanan's debunked theories have gained so much traction that social media platforms like facebook and twitter have been forced to. Take Action removing thousands of Cunanan related accounts off their platforms though a recent analysis by the site intelligence group of monitor for online extremists alleges some are trying to reform pages under codenames
Chasten Buttigieg: Shares His Side of the Story
"You know for all the Presi during the Democratic primary and for everything that was written about you. It wasn't until reading your book that I realized how unique your position also was as an out gay man in a relationship with cylinder running for president that has never happened before in our history with that something that you thought a lot about our talks about with the team I thought about it endlessly. I obviously encouraged him to run. You know gave him all the support and instead go for it. But that's because I had no idea what running for president was like so it's very easy. Say Like Yeah I love you great president and then you know the campaign took off rapidly and then my profile rose pretty rapidly and for a few months as you read in the book I had there's a lot of anxiety about how do I feel this rule? This world has never been done before there's no playbook I was anxious for a long time about making sure I got the moment and making sure that I was doing it whatever quote the right way was and ultimately I just decided. I have to be myself like I can't do this pretending to be anybody else or. Expecting people to think anything else but myself and that worked really well, and it was also disappointing to some other people but at the end of the day, I just wanted you know people liked me I, want them to like me for me and if you know if it wasn't enough in at least it, I wasn't going out there pretending to be something else every day. Are you able to explain why it was different being a gay man married to a gay man in the middle of a presidential campaign compared to like any other spouse? Will there was sometimes, it was like sitting in the middle of the blender and just kind of like watching the world like swirl around you and you're getting all this input and feedback and everyone has an opinion about what you should do, what you should wear what you should say, and then sometimes with really invasive things like how you should perform your identity, your sexuality things you should talk about or shouldn't talk about and it was weird to watch. You know one side of the aisle we were far too gay for people like rush Limbaugh, right of course, and then other people saying like there he is or he is not performing a way that is what I would like to see and you know at the end of the Dan thinking like I am just being myself but I I don't think I would have been as successful. Had I been trying to pretend to be this mash up of? Michelle Obama and Chrissy. Teigen. Something I was wondering during the campaign was. Fun joked that people had was calling you the future first lady did hearing things like that like hurt or offend you know? I mean I felt like a lot of it was just ingest and felt like people were celebrating it. They knew that it would be historical and they and they knew it was something to be celebrated I never really took offense to. Anything like that was a piece of criticism that was the hardest to hear some of the criticisms that sort of made my head spin. You know when when we talk about like what is enough in what isn't enough? And I was spending so much time on the trail and I. Wish. I. Wish more media would have covered what I was doing on the trail because I spent most of my time with teachers, students, lgbtq centers, homeless service providers they all have very personal connections to me in my story and so almost every day I was in some sort of LGBTQ senator or Having roundtables with young people and I. Hear these stories that were so reflective of mine you know young kids who had ran away from home without they didn't belong who were bullied in school who were pushed out of their churches who didn't feel like there was space for them and who are literally questioning their worth and their dignity, and then I see these criticisms of myself, my marriage, this campaign saying were straight men I think one. Person Quips that you know we're just two straight men without women. These situations that like Queen's must look a certain way and I'm thinking like, why are we policing the boundaries in making young people believe that clearness has to be performed surgery has to look a certain way as if you have to exist a certain way to belong in our community when many queer people are sitting, for example, in Tulsa Oklahoma or in the desert and California. Wondering if they even deserved exist at all and at the end of the day like I'm, I'm a big boy. I can read that criticism and think about it and you know examine it through our critical lens. But then I thought that was really dangerous to to young people. It is a funny thing because you know talking to somebody queer people everyone's like digesting messages of how to be gay how to be translated all these things and a common theme I've heard over and over again is they didn't feel like the right kind of gay and then suddenly we have you the national spotlight and like throwing that same criticism that hurt so much on you as well. Yeah it's funny because like I was I was at an event once and this woman asked me. Does being gave matter. I. Mean You keep talking about it like you talk about running away from home and you talk about. Marriage equality and the fight for Trans writes does any of that really matter I think it was one of the only times I had to like look at my team on my God you know hold me back. This is is so insulting and I said. You know until people stop killing us it does matter.
Arian Moayed On How Fear Never Leaves, And Why You Should Just Keep Going
"I believe in curiosity I just I. Just think that we can't do anything without it early and just asking people obey the is basically a version of empathy. Enemy. Empathizing with WHO people are and what they do over were you the curious kid like is this something that's been part of your life or somebody who cultivated? Yeah. I mean. I think the circumstances of my life you know being born in Iran and then moving here as young immigrants in the eighties where Iran was like enemy enemy number one if you recall. And like Iran Russia which kind of back there again I kind of felt that like you know I was so curious about this world is culture and I think that's kind of where it started also you know It's crazy. It was crazy. My parents don't speak any the my spirit's English is not great. The they came here when they were forty and fifty. The I mean it's not like they. You know I'm thirty seven. So like imagining myself in three years time taking all of an IV and Chrissy and saying, Hey, well, going to move to China and we're GONNA make this. We're going to make life better in China as a show I mean that's All you can be as curious I. Guess. Yeah. I guess. So how so how old were you when you actually let on? Well, we laughed Iran you know it's hard to tell because at time here was crazy there was a war happening and I think a lot of you especially you a bit younger don't don't really remember that whole window of of our history and our relationship with Sir Yeah, the Middle East Yeah. Yeah it's complicated. It's long and it's GonNa either bore fascinate all of you guys. But the the the the the truth is we you know it's it's. It's it's hard to talk about because there's so many levels to like how crazy it is. One is my mom was married to my dad at the age of thirteen. My mom was thirteen Wendo arranged marriage. My mom is pretty standard. You know it was on the outs in that time period. Yeah. But my parent, my mom's mom was a single mom she was the youngest you know she couldn't make she couldn't make it happen, and so she had to like you know she had to like give I, guess her her daughter La youngest daughter away and so then my dad, my dad's they were more religious than my mom's side was and so. They got arranged. My mom had her first kid at fifteen years old her second kid at sixteen and Arthur kid eighteen, and then had me when she was thirty five. So my siblings are seventeen eighteen in. I'm sorry. Yes. Some teen eighteen basically twenty years than me. So, and then and then the revolution hit seventy nine. And then a war hit right after that because Saddam invaded with you know and then got the support of the United States. You know because we of the Iranian situation and then we were in a war. And so everyone was closed inside as is bombings happening all over Tehran all over the border, and so we were indoors and and you know when when people get doors and there's a lot of fear in the air of uncertainty, you procreate you know and so the baby boom in Iran happened at that moment in seventy nine to eighty five, where like sixty percent of Iranian. Population right now in Iran is under the age of forty. Fascinating you walk down the street and everyone's young. So anyway and then and then. CRAZILY my brother. My oldest brother was sixteen. When he graduated high school in Iran, his name is Amir And then he went to A. He got accepted to a school in. CHICAGO. Right. When he was sixteen. So sixteen twentyish he's in Chicago, ish issue like something like that, and then the revolution hit. And then my brother was like should I come back and. My parents were like you're never coming back here will come to you. And then in that time period. My. Youngest my brother that's closest to me who seventeen his name is. Oh, mead omen was drafted in the Iran Iraq war. And fought three years in that war. With a couple of my cousins who are who are who have passed away who died in that war one of them, which data that were, and then my brother was in war my sister was in the middle there. I was just born. We got the F out of town and we went we went as far as my dad's connections and money and. You know and you know connections could could could take you in that was Dubai. We've got to Dubai who lived in the Arab Emirates and we were there for off and on for about five years and then and then we and then you know a long period of time you know no one heard it from my brother was fight in the war. And trying to and trying to try to like move three pieces ahead while also like making sure the pieces back here it's a chess game you know and and dangerous one. And then my dad then. We had were that Amigos live. We went back to Iran. Might he got back? He was no nine, hundred twenty you know fought three years in a war in a city called Oh mead his name is omitted, which means hope and wherever like was slaughtered murdered and died because it was a brutal war brutal war and he he's a twenty year old brainwashed you know. PTSD. Kid. And in that time period as we're figuring out to go back to Dubai and come back, my sister falls in love. Falls in love with the guy and and then that made things tricky and then, and then we all laughed and my sister stay. So I- sister got the states in two thousand and three we left in eighty five. So An and then we came to the states and again you know the analogy that the Chinese like us like you and me and you taking your family and your son going to China or whatever language that you don't know our culture, the No, and you're like, this is the best news for us. Now you know you're GonNa, you're not going to be easy and so in all of that, you just get you know a a sense of like the world in a very kind of complicated way. A very young age and and not only do they not speak the language they don't know what? Christmases. They don't know what Hanukkah is. They don't have any idea why people are going to church all the time. They have no clue why the cars are this way they don't know why the food is patching. There's nothing that is familiar. There's nothing that you can empathize with as as an Iranian living in the states and being like I know this thing and so in all that you are learning rapidly. You know a very drastic way and so that curiosity might have had something to do with it. I'm not really sure
UIC researchers launch Moderna trial Monday in race to beat coronavirus
"On the lighter note. You see, health is just a few days into a phase three Covad 19 vaccine trial 30,000 people will take part across the U. "chrissy" Discussed on Alyssa Milano: Sorry Not Sorry
"Today. I am so happy to be joined by my friend. Chrissy stroup Chrissy is a leader in the movement of those raised in evangelical traditions and are now leaving their churches as the editor of the book. Empty the pews stories of leaving the church. She brought together the personal powerful stories of twenty-six former evangelical who left their religious upbringings and the challenges. They faced a pew report out. Today says that in the past seven years the number of Americans who don't belong to an organized religion has grown by nearly twenty million evangelical remain an important demographic group for politicians the percent of Americans who identify with any religion has been on the decline who support Donald Trump. Have backing is without question. How does that Puritan stunt sit alongside the one time twenty percent on White Evangelicals for Donald Trump at twice divorced candidate accused of extra marital fares? Stars these are some of the greatest leaders they would love to pray. A Reverend Steve. Young Blood Basically wants to slap a war with him that don't won't bore emerged as almost sexual mentor. Leader at shared with some of my closest friends hoping they'd give me some wisdom instead they just went straight to the rules. They said being gay is a sin. And you can't accept it not accept my daughter. What does that even mean? One day you will grow up and you will realize you can leave all of this. Hi I'm Christie stroup. I'm a transgender. Ex jellicoe sorry not sorry so you and I first met on twitter. I think around two thousand seventeen shortly after the election. Your Twitter Bio Reids X. Evangelical Writer and Russian History PhD Trans Girl and sometimes snark Easter. I'd like frito briefly. Tell us a little bit about your childhood. Where did you grow up? What was your childhood like so I grew up mostly in north suburb of Indianapolis called. Fisher's was born a small town in Northern Indiana. But my family moved down there When I was around five years old and after kindergarten and with the exception of half of sixth grade I was in Christian schools the entire time of my elementary and secondary education. And when I say Christian school I don't mean a Jesuit Academy or something like that you know the The schools that call themselves Christian schools or Christian Academy's they're usually more like the ones where second lady Karen Pence teaches art where they're very anti. Lgbtq or they mobilized the kids for doing culture wars kind of advocacy and involvements. Illiberal civics if you will so you know. I had a drilled into my head in church and Christian schools from a very early age that liberals are these horrible people who kill babies and we have to stop them and we also have to stop gay people from having rights. Can you talk a little bit? About the history of Evangelical Ism sure the Histories of Evangelical Ism that have been written a lot of them have been written by people who come out of the more like moderate to liberal tradition evangelical right if somewhat sympathetic to it and they want to locate the origins of Evangelical Ism and things like the second grade awakening in the abolitionist movement. And it's true that a kind of evangelical protestantism was a motivating factor for the abolition of slavery in Britain and the United States. But that's not really the ancestor the direct ancestor of what we call evangelical protestantism or what it has mostly become in the United States today. If you WANNA look at what evangelical ISM is in the United States today. And here we're talking mostly about white evangelical. There are some evangelical of color that would also fall into this category but there are also some Christians of color that some people would call evangelical somewhat not someone self defined as evangelical than some would not clear very different and they vote very differently. But you know this right mostly white evangelicalism. It's the descendant of slaveholders Christianity. It's you know the descendant of denominations involved is still all these denominations as well like the Southern Baptist Convention which split off of other Baptists over the issue of slavery because you know these northern Baptist groups decided that they didn't want they didn't think slave owners should be missionaries what became the Southern Baptist Convention. Thought that was very insulting so they broke away so they could have missionary owned slaves. And you know this is also seriously inflected through the Cold War anti communism and in American history that's really inseparable from the civil rights. Movement are far right-wing anticommunist they denounce Martin Luther King as a communist that sort of thing and you know initially people like Jerry Falwell senior. Who of course built the moral majority you know he? He mobilized Christians around opposition to civil rights legislation and integration and today evangelical. Who are still very much in that tradition They try to distance themselves from that history but it is their history and my history too. I mean I grew up that way and they still vote to uphold white supremacism. Even if they won't admit it and there's another key moment there too that I sort of forgot to go over earlier. Which is there. Were these debates in theology in the early twentieth century between the so-called modernists. Who are able to move away from Biblical liberalism and the fundamentalists and this is actually where the term fundamentalists came from. There is a series of pamphlets published starting in Nineteen fifteen called the fundamentals and today's evangelical are also very much the descendants of the fundamentalist side of those early twentieth century debates so evangelical in the United States. It's best to consider the type of fundamentalist Christianity even if some evangelical fundamentalists would define themselves against each other. If we take a step back and look at it through kind of a scholarly framework. It's it's very much a variety of Christian fundamentalism. I wanted to get a better understanding of really what your life was. Like as an evangelical Christian. Can you describe that to me? I mean were you happy yeah. That's a complicated question. And the kind of things that happen to you. When you end up rejecting the ideology when you change politically and religiously from your family and a high demand religious group and a thorough -tarian religious group like this. You know people will accuse you of quote unquote attacking everything we stand for a direct. I heard from multiple relatives of mine. They will accuse you of hating your entire childhood but I did not hate my entire childhood and they don't hate my entire childhood. Now I also definitely didn't get the worst of Evangelical Ism so as we now know there was a big expose. I think over seven hundred cases as far as I recall last year. Were exposed of child sexual abuse and cover ups in the Southern Baptist Convention. You know that didn't happen to me I. I didn't get the worst kind of corporal punishment. The worst guy was being spanked with a wooden spoon. But corporal punishment is highly emphasized and Evangelical Communities Spare the Rod and spoil the child and all that and any fundamentalist group they create these kind of parallel institutions and structures this whole parallel society alongside mainstream American society. So they look at outsiders as quote unquote the world. That's the phrase that they use. The world is scary. You're supposed to kind of go into it. Sometimes and convert people but most of our social life was people we knew through church and Christian school and so I was isolated that way and then they also build up kind of a whole system of as I said parallel institutions and even publishing houses books a Christian music industry this sort of stuff to reinforce a set of alternative facts if you will and to kind of expose and highlight that a couple years ago I coined the Hashtag Christian facts to look at the kinds of alternative facts that children raised in. This environment are indoctrinated with you. Know things like the Loch ness monster might be real. And that's more proof that humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time you know. There's a lot of really really really wild stuff. Some of it has much more well. Maybe just differently problematic implications and that I mean once you start to get into things like purity culture and what I like to call fake sex. Ed they tell you things like you know. Condoms can't stop the AIDS virus. Abortion causes breast cancer and lots of other stuff that's just completely made up all across America and Canada and Western Europe very sweeping being anew craze among teenagers it's called Lovin. They've had one in Toronto. Recently they had one in Montreal now. The one in Toronto was quite harmless. The one in Montreal got a little bit out of hand. The police had to come in but in some parts of the Western world. They've become six oranges so you almost grew up in a bubble in a sense..

"chrissy" Discussed on Minor Adventures with Topher Grace
"Guy. Minor ventures with tofu grace. We're back. So Chrissy Chrissy Matt's is one of your friends, and you guys worked together. She is the coolest, I chose this terribly hard thing for her beat boxing. I thought she'd be terrible. At turns out, she was amazing. Spoiler in this episode. She is unbelievable. And I am terrible. And that is my just as our it's for picking such hard thing for her to do. Let's get to that in a second before we get to that toe for one quick housekeeping note. So we have about six or seven weeks before we launch into season two and during that time we're not going to go dark. In fact, we have don't you tell us what we have. Well, every time that I have a friend in here of mine, we wind up spending forty fifty minutes gabbing about whatever and then we just pick kind of choice ten minute section to play before the adventure. So in the next six weeks, we're gonna play these extended conversations which you'll feel like you are in the room with us. And it's a lot of fun. And I really, really think you're gonna like a lot of these. I love catching up with these people. And, you know, you hear a little bit of it at the beginning of each episode, but I think we'll have kind of two guests per episode. We'll be able to hear kind of everything we talked about. And then in six weeks, we're gonna season two amazing gas amazing adventures, and I don't wanna give anything away, but the adventures are getting bigger and crazier. And I'm worse at them. All right. Let's get to Chrissy Mets. I remember a story you told me when you started out, are you down to doing? It was. Yeah. So one of my first gigs when I when I moved to LA was, I booked, a small co-star role on entre. I think it was the second season. Right. When it was hit and righto Harz. It was an entourage world. Yeah. Everyone wanted to be either on it -ffiliated with it, whatever and to do a co star and then to know that James Cameron was who I was going to be remembered. I literally almost be that was the peak of that show. Thing James cameras, actually, on it and he'll you in. So I was, you know, it's like you're, you're coming into someone's home and you're like I can't really make myself comfortable, but I have to be comfortable enough, and it was just so stressful. And I remember I could not get my line out to save my life. And, and the guy who plays turtle, Jerry Jerry, just Jerry. He was like, what's the hold up? And I was like. Yeah. And I was like, oh, that's rough. I think generally speaking to me, and I was like he was generally saying, what's. Yeah. She say her line and try not to internalize it all. Because then, like you get really in your head. And then you keep f and up. And then it's like I'm never gonna work in this town again. And this first job, there's not an actor who hasn't had this, where I don't think people realize who aren't in acting. There's like two hundred people on the crew in the lights and everything set. And then this is the worst. They say like to get that little Slade thing. They say on a bell, and everyone gets quiet. Everyone looks at you. Yeah. Especially if it's one of your first times, I mean and what I dish in with was not the same thing. They gave me the day of. And so, of course, I will never forget the line. But I kept plugging it in James was like, I gotta hear what is Mr Cameron was the sinking of the ship and attempt to foreshadow the forthcoming singing of tech market in two thousand okay? That's tough, first of all, it's got a little Sally seashells thing going on. It's a tongue. Twister. I mean no fence. Whoever wrote that. But like. Who talks like that stuff to think about? And then James Cameron, and he was like I couldn't get it a couple of times, and then I had to take my cue off of somebody else moving..

How was the I still have a giant gash on my shin from Napa what happened walked into a table. Totally sober. So there's that where you turn. Yeah. It was Sunday morning. Oh, yeah. Over probably a little shaky rickety record Ricky around the edges. Then you're bleeding it. So we had to point out to you that there was blood in your pants like multiples like, you suppose, some jam on you. Like jam. Nope. That's pure blood seeping through I'm gross style. Because the texture of jam is not. I know. Thick chunky blood. We have a question. This is kind of weird. I'm just hypothetically is well your type of personality to date. Yeah. No. But I really like him a lot not wasn't my question. But I don't. Okay, you question. I because I didn't clarity as well. I just find that. I guess I don't know happening in may. So oh, it's coming up. Yeah. Oh, coming up guys. I don't know. I like those a lot. He's not your type because why handsome. He had a crush on him before. And his brother like, obviously was it like attraction at some point. Yeah. But I think. No, I know him better. Like, we're probably not a good match. Okay. I just thought like I was thinking, I know he's an soup. It's it's almost like I wasn't saying well, specifically many like. Yes. But he actually like was he told me that in Napa. He was like I'm going to keep an eye out for you like, I'm really he's gonna make an effort and. Yeah. Like, and like, it seemed like genuine effort like talked me. Tommy like what what's your physical type? And I was like throw that out the window because we just don't know, you just don't know. But yeah, he seemed really like adamant about. Mike, helping you helping me out which was not that you need help. But just like keeping a lookout for you. Yeah. I mean, it's better than like the dating apps. You know, what I mean like having people? Oh, she's taking. Oh, there's a shares a wound. Yeah. Over a week old. Yeah. Nobody. And I'll have you taken that off and let it dry out. I had a dried out for a while. And then I think it was getting infected. Oh my gosh. Thing really makes me more uncomfortable than that. So last night. I call Tanya because I needed the password to try and watch the screener for Chrissy Chrissy Mets is going to be on the show today. And she's in a new movie called breakthrough tawny had a screener. So I was like, hey, can you send that over to me? I wanna watch before we talked her tomorrow, and I really want to see the movie. We got put next to each other in class because I was talking to my boyfriend all the time he was talking to his girlfriend all the time. So that's how we got to know each. I had a girlfriend in the class. She had a boyfriend and the same clock in the same clothes. Oh my God. We, but we're always got in trouble talking. So they put us in the back. Also, they like separated. Yeah. Is four teacher was inspired. Yes. It is the class was actually is Mary seminary seminary. It was all. And so we sat in the back. And but honestly like the coolest part about it is that like we started that whole year. We didn't date till the end that did I'd start thinking that's legal by town. How old I was. And how she was. Wait fifteen eighteen sixty nine was just yet. That's not good. So, you know. Your friend. Coolest part about it is like for one year we were in this class together. And we sat in the back of the room and are boyfriend and girlfriend the time we're in different areas, and we talked and laughed and she write me notes, and we would write back. So like, we really started our pen pals miles from across the way, you know, what I mean? But like need one time so much. So that my girlfriend the time was like you like that Chrissy Ellington girl, and I'm like, Chrissy Ellington. She's like my little sister for like. Yeah. She always says, but I mean, but that's I think been the best part about us being twenty one years of marriage is like we are started as best friends like a really good friends, and I think as much as we work together. Now like, we would never make it. If we didn't have like this long history of like being like, really good like best friends. So basically to answer your question. We both grew up in Mesa. Arizona. So the podcasts is over. Signing off. Okay. Perfect. So how long so you dated in high school then for a little bit? I mean, not really. And that's the whole thing is, you know, I was getting ready to go to college. And that was then going to go on a mission for our church. I had that all planned and she's in high school, and I really loved ice school. Like had lots of good friends. I dated a couple of every not everyone. I'm very picky as you can see I'm very picky but dated around and like an I knew Chrissy like I knew that every guy liked her. And so like, but I go to her house and hang out the phone be ringing nonstop. You're gonna mean like a boys calling. I'm like come on, you know, but I'm never really for the most part not the jealous type. So it's like I just lived with it. And I kind of like, okay. So I'm going to go to college which I went away for a semester, but she's a junior now junior. She didn't turn sixteen to August. Going into junior year. Zillow's you come home from college to go to dances with me. All my friends. My friends gave me the hardest time and all of them married girls younger than Chrissy. You know what I mean? "The following podcast is a deer media production. Hello guys. And welcome back to what we said podcast. If you are new. I'm Jay see, I am the redhead. I went blond for a second therapy. But we back in business. I'm Chelsea I'm am the brunette one and we'd like to clarify because our voices sound very similar if you're new podcast. You're probably wondering why it'd be think this is one person who has kids affronting, but it's two separate girls. So hopefully that clarifies things for you guys today, we have a very special guest Crecy, Rasmussen otherwise known as hair by Chrissy on Instagram. Chrissy has done my hair for years, even before I mean, she still she did social media when I started, but she has really taken off yet taken off since she's been doing we're here for years and years, and she is the only person, I trusted touch my hair. She is basically the hair Queen I go to her with any hair questions. I have she's always done an amazing job at my color. Mike cuts and making sure my her's always been healthy. And so a lot of people don't actually know this. I'm not a natural redhead. I'm actually more of a natural brunette with kind of Auburn hints in my hair, but the red she does on the hair looks so natural that no one even believes me when I tell them, I dye my hair docked. And she also specializes in blonds like she does it all she's so good at every single aspect braids. Yeah. If you've seen on Instagram like, the big blonde, braids extensions. That's chrissy. Yeah. So we're super excited interview her she's one of the hardest working people I've ever met in my life. She is a go getter. She does not stop until things are perfect. And she just always strives to be the best. But she's also really humble and always treats people really, well, which I admire lot her husband rich also came to the interview. So we interviewed the two of them together. And they're such a great duo and their business partners. And he. He is such a huge part of the business as well. Which is why we wanted to include him in on this. Because he's been a huge reason. I think they've reached success because he's handled kind of all the business aspects while Chrissy worked super hard or her craft. So I think they're really good team. So without further ado here they are. All right. We are here with Chrissy and rich live. I the podcast studio. Thanks for being here. We're just gonna jump right on end this interview get into the good stuff. So first of all tell us where you're both from the start with that. All right. My going go for go read. So this is the classic American story. Right. Okay. We lived exactly one mile away from each other both in coldest sack both directly looking right at an elementary school one mile as the as the crow flies. They say right soulmates. But yes, but because that's separated by Gilbert road here at Mesa northeast Mesa at the time, we were in different alimentary is of course, we're different junior. Highs different church groups, we didn't ever meet each other. It's not like social media in our he just kind of connect with everybody who's kind of your. Innocenti exactly. But then you didn't hear like a product of geography, you know? And so basically high school comes along and we both born and raised in northeast Mesa high school. We have a I'm a senior she's a sophomore, and we have class together. That's the first time. But again, I think I'm big man on campus. I hate to say that but sounds really conceited..

I was with the big brother people that there's a Melissa and Karen bond and people think it's up, but the crews says CARA was the limited final four despite not having a single vote cast against our thoughts. She played a very strong under the radar game and people red people, really. You know, really loved her seemingly out there. I don't know how much is you talking about her social game. You know? But you know, she did not have really designs on a plan to get to the end. And maybe that's exactly why they needed to get her out at final four. Maybe her game was not under the radar on the island. Right. Maybe everybody out there knew what an amazing game she was playing. And so they need it to just get her out. We don't know. But that would be my. She seems super sweet. But in terms of like her game other than being nice, and people would tell her secrets it's like if there wasn't much there, but you know, being likeable and get into the end is enough to win. Sometimes. Absolutely. It is. To say the two just because we didn't see it doesn't mean that it didn't exist. It is possible that maybe we shouldn't give the best confessionals or didn't give the best answers at tribal council. And that's why we didn't see them that much. But it doesn't mean that that did not exist. You could be or not to final waters, certainly. But I feel like that we would have a little bit more of a sense based on the secret scenes and. And stuff like that. So I feel like that we'd have a little unless it was the kind of thing where she does want to say to the production for whatever reason which other players certainly said before. So who knows but while the paternity, we'll talk to CARA in the exit interviews, and maybe we can get a better sense. But you don't have to talk to Mike white that he's scheduled on my call sheet for two movies. So we'll. So we'll see sometimes these exit interviews the day after can be a little bit wonky of like who they who can't get tracked down the day or to not that, you know, anything about partying after the finale or anything like that. But sometimes it's it's kind of a hot mess the day after the finale might white joined the final two club. So I fully expect Dominic. You have Photoshop him into our picture member of that. Yeah. Dion a whats app. Group. Message with Mike white soon. Yeah. Anyone that? Fills our fate like us. We're starting around group. And no one else is allowed in. Let's take. Got twenty twelve us. And you're you're cursing and screaming, Andy, spins I've missed hold on and house yelling at cast members in the haunted house that they're not being fair to him. I've met a lot of people like Chrissy Teigen. Who are like? Yes. I get scared. But I have a lot of fun. Yes. She lent for me. She loves sanctum Guerande as soon as they were done. We were done they go all Riano was like come on. We're going to go do the rest of the and I'm like, no, I'm going home. Like a true story they art in. This instance, Chrissy Teigen said to us. I will be so fun to go through the haunted house with Andy. But I I have one condition after I go through the haunted house with with Andy. I need my mother to go through the haunted house with Andy. And what we said was. That's great. That's a great idea. We can't tell Andy that after he goes through. I've always said I'm only going to go through one time. I can't there have been ideas for me to go. And I just can't do that. If you wanna see Andy, Chrissy Teagan and her mother go through a haunted house. Check out our Halloween show on Halloween. The elbow on Halloween October thirty first October thirty first now, Andy, I've I've one question that a lot of people have a lot of people have seen you going through with Chrissy Teigen guess and a lot of people had some questions because it seemed as though you head sort of an issue with your eye glass. This is an I've had glasses for a few years now for some reason, which I they they were loose, and I didn't know it because I don't do physical activity and the only one I do is hockey, and I don't wear them. So this was the first time, and apparently they were loose because a pair like odd they wouldn't stop in different places on your face. Every time we kept thinking take them off. But then I can't see. See because I'm of that age man certain age a man of a certain age, and so it was a nightmare. But again, I do remember them coming off. But I don't remember how many times because in the fear. I don't remember what's happening in there. And I was saying Ed yesterday where did that come from where I call myself alpha? And it's because Ed whenever he doesn't want to eat whenever he makes fun of me that he's not going to handle something at the show, and he wants me to because you'll be out fund. Right. But I never used the term. And then I watch back the haunted house. And I'm yelling that whatever. Whatever alpha is you could make the case that Andy is the opposite of. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Torture ends when it's over right telling the Johnny Norman story. Which? Oh, yes. Oh, yeah. This is the other thing Jonathan Norman whose co executive producer at the show, and he's been doing this for years anytime, I'm on the show, he watches it in slow motion and take screen shots where my face looks the fattest whether it's from that angle, and he sends it to me. And so I'll just be at dinner with my family, and I see a message from Johnny. And I think oh, he's got something about the show, and I click on and it some shot of me where it looks like I have forty-one chin. No message nothing. And so you just send you the picture. Yeah. Oh, and by the way, with this Chrissy Teigen one now Ellen's and on it. She posted a thing of four photos one of them, which is from the side. And I go. I've never seen. I was like literally never four picture wasn't at the four pictures of your glasses, though wasn't. Yeah. But one of them was taken from an angle where it's my four glasses and my fortunes. Yes, unflattering. Yeah. No. It's not great. So in in having sympathy for you. Yeah..

"I mean, I wonder, I guess if the answer is yes, but it's like Chrissy ticket realize that like another two should stop saying stuff, but whenever she says literally anything about any others, liberty people are going to talk about her saying that thing about that slim like that's maybe ios lying? No, such she's talked about that her son just like, why does everything I say make news? It's like, because it. Does people are interested in because people always click and people always like people are going to keep doing it. And it's like, don't act like she's trying to pretend like she's very naive and doesn't understand this happens. But it's like this happens because you're famous and you're famous because you desperately wanted to be famous and got famous. So it's like, right, you don't really get to complain. You have to understand that if you were going to tweet something, people are going to see it and write about it, especially starting shit with someone who was also famous and not only famous Royal adjacent. So it's international attention. It's just like Chrissy you want this. And I just, I refuse lever says she doesn't want to is where we have the incident the the tabloid report, and the Chrissy Teigen take on literally every piece of like information that now happens like Azarov lead slide personally, love having the Chrissy Teigen take. I have no problem with Chrissy Teigen, but I think it's really silly. I don't get it. Like, why do people read about me? I think she is one of those people that like is smart and knows all. All this stuff on a meta level, and it just funny to watch our be confused by the easiest part. Yeah. What is why I don't buy that. She's too smart to not know, won miss fucking podcast Chrissy if you're listening, come on just talk to us. It's year like talk about the decisions. Why would you cover the fog ads? I don't having hooligans. We're going to. We're gonna have to tweet at you again when they did that for a while. We did a whole campaign and it's failed. It failed. I don't like failing Chrissy keg move on police. Hi, Bobby among the longtime listener..

"Chrissy reply deal with things like gary are you are you on a speakerphone yeah there you go okay that's much better go ahead go ahead your remarks remarks about you don't feel with say regards to our jobs the stability of work as we get is the pass i think if you i think it reminds me frankly i think such as maybe myself with a lot of other this common man just common sense pragmatic views i think we're dying breed bravo as far as the problem you understand what i'm saying absolutely people aren't this loosened the millennials aren't plugged in they they let stuff roll off their back you know i was talking to somebody the other day when it came to job performance in probably still guilty of it today is the fact that i just continue to try to hit a home run every time and when it's not right i go back and i go back and i go back and looking back i wasted so much time trying to make things right when in the big picture didn't really matters far as my life is concerned it was more about trying to help others on the job and i think our society has gotten to the point now where such a me generation and we wanna be basically working for ourselves it's not about that commitment team player that i think that's one of the reasons why we have suffered economically right you've killed without trying to bring out very well i think i it's a lot about this too and i'm gonna allergy about two and mr trump we ross america and frankly of a lot of trump supporters beat specifically you about i don't think we're taking this best gatien serious napa respected enough that's just my own personal and i think you're talking about young people no connection here but i'm trying to make it you gotta you gotta step away from the glitch and grandma you know what i'm trying to say look and take this very very serious and i'm not so sure that we are which this that well you know as as a this is come out lately it's it's really not a very metal they are watch so so i i think he should be careful bothers me in this overall i think that's a mistake i just wanted to say one more thing kentucky i know south subject but our meeting looking at the courier j movie both for real journal big story here last week the rise and fall papa john's pizza you know in the leader in the share very interesting yeah we were discussing that a little bit yesterday it is tragedy of a great american success story but i think a life lesson that can be learned for everyone hey thank you for the call i knew that that was going to be brought up today and you know i'm just going to tell you i mean i have been admire of his for many many years and good people do bad things say stupid things make bonehead comments but the product hopefully will live on because once again you know a lot of people are depending on that but i think all of us if we can look in the mirror we have done things that we wish we would have not done but we're just not the ceo of fortune five hundred companies now listen i want to take some time to kind of prepare you for what we're going to do in the final two segments of the broadcast and that is this i believe in my opinion that this meeting tomorrow is as big if not anything bigger than the president has done during his time in the white house and a lot of you may not want to accept the fact that we need russia but we we do and the the trade war isn't it ironic that this meeting comes literally weeks after the first shots were fired verbally at china when it comes to trying to get a better deal when it comes to products coming out of there you understand that china right now not only holds a grip on our economy but they do throughout the rest of the world and i believe for the moxie of the president in what he did standing up to president paying in china i think vladimir putin admires that if you will and i think that's one of the reasons i mean that's face it if somebody was saying you basically meddled in their election and you just kept.
