"And welcome to this episode. Wake me up when september trends courtesy. Johnny davis and green day may goof. Is it september. Yeah yeah. We're about to hit. September big seth except to again intercepted right. I'm jack that's miles and this is going to be an episode. That has just nonstop september word. All right all right now we. This is episode trending and a couple athletes are trending cam. Newton is trending because he was cut by the patriots china. I don't. I don't love for the patriots because i think he's an underrated quarterback even though he had a bad season last season. I do love. For our national vaccine efforts because he i think was unvaccinated and kind of choosing not to be vaccinated and i do believe that had a lot to do with why he was cut. It wasn't all that rap and hip hop. And i don't know if he asked that one one talk sports talk show. Yeah yeah brother rap music. That's why he's he'll get another team will get them right. Yeah for sure. I mean he's line like starting and should you know would be like the best backup i think in in the league if he ends up being a backup but it was yeah. He won the heisman. He was rookie of the year was went to the super bowl and was like head one of the better seasons of in many years but You know it's weird how. How often do heisman winner. Just completely fall off not nailed on. You know because obviously it's a different different world. I'm sure about like usually like we get so turned up for heisman. Winners going into the league. And then it's not always you know like where's jameis winston ray. Where's rg three. Where's charlie ward. Charlie ward so i feel like those days are maybe behind us. I don't know because the like now. The players like alabama is so massive. It's like basically an nfl team. And so it's it's hard for those players. Like charlie ward was like too small for the nfl kind of and didn't really have a great throwing arm. But yeah i mean so marcus. Mariota was heisman winner. Who didn't pan out james. Yeah is going to be the starting quarterback for the saints this year. Johnny manziel johnny football. So it happens. That was a that was a run of three that didn't really work out or g. three But then you've also got your jackson's your cam newton your derrick henry. Derrick henry is just amazing. Yeah win some you lose some basically everyone's sins derrick henry has been probably like a next level. Nfl player. i mean crooked. Forget chris winky about that in the year. Two thousand show ron dane and ninety nine. Wow on dane man. I remember he was on all those video game covers. And you're like he's not going to have occur. E francis was like on the cover of ncw basketball like Yeah love that maryland team though what else. Oh so another thing. Those training is some guy named ben. Simmons i'm not sure that's about also there's a fire. Do give it in the paint. That all ben. Ben ben's best benjamin ben newton old ben simmons. He is trending because he's essentially told the sixers. I don't wanna play here. And i'm not coming to training camp so deal with it. I mean for him. Was that mean for you. How you feel when i said that you remember your first wait. What and then you just exhaled. It's kind of. I didn't know how this is gonna work itself out. I knew that it was like to immovable objects like right like benson. They basically threw him under the bus. In a way that. I've never seen a star ish player thrown under the bus by the best player on his team and his coach. Generally people won't do that especially if the person just had like a really bad series. You're not like yeah. They suck right usually. You're like you know we're we're working through it and they're to get better and we believe they're gonna get better Instead they basically made it so that he couldn't be on the team anymore but then they didn't make any moves in the off season so it was like well so are they just going to cause. There's no there's no version of reality where someone with that big ego who's also like kind of fragile. I feel like a little bit especially after that series is is going to just like come in and be like. Hey you know. I'm checking in for work. And i don't care what they said grind it out. I just. it's not it's not happening. i think. More power to him. I definitely don't think docking. Doc rivers in joel. Embiid should've talked to as talk shit as openly because now the sixers front office is in a really weird place where they have like basically distressed asset that everybody knows. They're trying to get rid of and nobody's going to give them full price for it now. Whoops whoops yeah it's a it's a massive messy team to root for but you know still going to keep rocking the hat because i like the hat so we will stop sixers fan. Nope just like that. Nah not fucking with the process. Now anything don't know anything about anyone just like the hat moving on ben. Simmons never heard of him never here to pick up an ice cream cake. Ben simmons please stay the kaldor fires trending and this is a fire that is basically about to make render lake. Tahoe one of the biggest You know outdoor You know vacation spots in california uninhabitable I i was there over last summer with my family and just even than it like there were days. You couldn't go outside because of the air quality because of fire season. So this is not like unexpected It is just Fucking terrible that. This is the new reality. Ma'am it's you. Look at those fire maps how. They just grew over the last couple of days. And you're like ooh that's a lot of a lot of damage you and it's interesting. 'cause there is a lot of an expensive homes there so that usually means like a pretty fierce response to save the private property up there but it seems like one of those things where just wins and nature. Is this on its own course. so yeah For anybody out. Yeah hope hopefully people who have had to evacuate Hopefully you're safe and hopefully it's not too devastating for you. Although i already saw like fucking horrible stories of la like lift and uber rides that were like thousands to like.

"Back Bobby about it doesn't it Doesn't Chris Winky Selves ineligibility? Cincinnati gets the late cover beats Army 24 to 10 Oklahoma State. Ah, late cover as well over West Virginia 27 to 13 and a game I held on to face Sometimes you wait and the lion goes your way. Tennessee was a 3.5 points. Eva closed at 4.5 5, some places and South Carolina and I'm covering that game late 31 27 Gamecocks lose the devil's falls find a way to win it. But then Brad Powers did say, Look, if you're struggling, I know Normally you look to the Hawaii game as you're late game, but the only late game on Saturday will be in Provo, BYU against Troy. He says B y used my bailout special. That means whatever you lost, put it on D Y. You loaned the old 48 Seven ages blow the doors off Troy, Absolutely and Tennessee. I was lucky enough to get them minus 3.5. So I was thrilled with the outcome of that game. But be why you look like to me. I couldn't understand why the spread was it was not even bigger than it was. But now looking ahead to next week because I noticed that you were saying that you were taking the teams that were there They were getting a lot of points. Is that the same tact you're going to take again or you're going to start is starting to fold out to you that Okay. These teams are really good that they will cover while these ones may not. Yeah, you know, it just depends. It depends How many teams what games they have under the belt. What they don't know. At least we have a sample size, albeit a small one. For some of these teams. Oklahoma's gonna be at Iowa State. Oklahoma right now is a seven point favorite. Look, I was state found a way to get a win on Saturday. They're very fortunate against TCU because they were outgained. On Max Dugan, their quarterback, Tzu's quarterback starter did not start the game didn't play till the second half came in and nearly engineered to come back all the way back for TCU, But Iowa State was able to close it out. So that'll be interesting with Oklahoma now being a seven point favorite. Remember this kid's Spencer Rat? Lou, This is his first year. It's not like they're going with one of these grad transfers that they've had, or Kyla Morrie. They don't have these Baker Mayfield. Guys. I know this kid rat was good, but he threw three interceptions. Against K State. So you know what he's still got some growing up to do granite. There's not the fans understand, so it won't be as hostile an environment as you would think. But nonetheless, it'll be interesting. When Oklahoma goes on the road. We'll see how that pans out. There's some other good games inside the SEC. Also, TCU, Texas should be interesting Am I got to go to Obama Dam is favored 16. I don't know. I mean, I know Jimbo Fisher. Sometimes his team's gets up for big games. But I can't touch a and and the way that offense struggled mightily at home, Mississippi, a Kentucky right now, Kentucky 6.5 7, some places If you like Kentucky, I grab it Now. I think they're gonna work the clock a little bit. And I'll probably be a little more physical than old Miss L s use at Vandy Ellis you a 20 a half point favorite. And right now I've looked at Vandy at home. They played a very solid game against am I'm not saying they're going to beat l s u Yes, you probably gonna win the game. But I'm saying that's definitely a game. That'll be within 15 points, in my estimation, Dandy as Ah, defense is going to play hard and Derek Nations of defensive coordinator by trade over there at Stanford, and so I would think that, you know, they're gonna dissect that film and see what they can do to disrupt this. L s u team that right now doesn't have any of the skill position players that they had last year outside of one, so we'll see how things pan out Big slate Brad powers, and I'll get you all that action. I find a football Fiasco. I just have one more to ask you about. That's Aubert, Georgia, Georgia right now is seven point favorite, but the way Auburn plate I can't see not taking Auburn plus the points in that game. Well, here's the thing. Hold your horses now, because J. T. Daniels, the quarterback from USC, has been cleared to play. And now it's just whether or not Georgia and Kirby Smart make that move to go to J. T. Dana's J. T. Daniel starts that game. I think George is going to take care of business. I've seen Daniel's play. I've seen him play for a couple of years, and this kid can flat out through the foot. All the other kid that played for Georgia like he's a He's a dual threat. J. T. Daniels is going to throw the ball more like from threw the ball last year, but I like the way Daniel's throws the ball, and if he throws it to the receivers, they get a couple of guys coming back from last year. Last year, the receiving corps was rather young, but they got a few guys coming back and I'll take Georgia in that game. If Daniels is gonna became the starter, so we'll see. We'll see how that goes. But fish. I did say we were going to make a little wager there on your bills and Raiders and, ah Right now. I believe the bills are 2.5 point favorites in the game. Let me see. It's okay. A couple of threes are but I don't want to use that thing. If the Raiders don't win the game, I'm not going to be happy. So I'm gonna take the Raiders straight up. We're going to do it for Let's see. What should we do it for? Wade got to do it for something over its signers. I would say since I since I'm buying your dinners anyway, when it wait, How about we'll do it for will do it for a 20 spot in one of the machines, one of Roger's machines. That sounds perfect allusions to part of 20 spotting for the winner to play one of the machines. There you go. That'll be great. I'll take the Raiders straight up. As far as that goes the bills right now again, you can find out if I would even be willing dead to do like paint my hair, silver and black for you if I lose There you go, man. That's ah, That's all right. Well, we'll move on that as we get going in football season, I'm sure we'll have some of those fun ones many times. Thompson's has been painted colors and one of the times. I didn't know there was any temporary coloring, and I ended up getting my hair color like weeks. You were a blue hair and you didn't even know it exactly. Right. Face real quick. Let's go through the lines right now..

"In fifteen sixteen the next year. I'M GONNA say the box because fuck the box. Yeah I think I briefly I was like twenty three straight games or something. That's not great. We talked about George SIEFERT ALREADY. Well not anymore. They got Brady now. They're going to twenty three game winning streak. What was longer the losing streak or the Patriots winning streak when they went was at oh three or four or they won ton and around one in a row right. I believe it was. They did win a shitload load in. I remember that I think it was twenty one interrupts the longest active. Nfl Win Streak. Yes or whole time. Yeah Yeah and You could say the Patriots have the most the longest singles winning streak as well because they won eighteen games in a season so I was always looking out the best. The best way to describe their season. Yeah and I don't know if you've ever been on urban thesaurus. But it's fucking awesome with those an urban thesaurus really our just gives you like equivalent words. I only knew about. Yeah I do I suggest you go to urban disorders at some point. 'cause it's funny so. I put in dumpster fire. Some of this shit is hilarious. Tragic News Hobo Salad Dead. Man's dumpster diving boy. Nacro pyro bestiality darker as you go along. Alaskan fire dragon veto sewer Hook. Read the Chevelle Day. There's like six podcast idea. Backdraft Lord side. This whole podcast has been worth it just for that one little nugget of knowledge right. I wish we knew this. So we could ask bobby. That question of describes this of these four options. What would you choose? Dumpster fire eight. Oh backdraft PYRO. Nacro beastie Elliott all right now. Getting crazy yeah So speaking of dumpster friars this. Coaching Staff We talked about Georgia for the other coaches. You may recognize. Mike McCoy Remember. Him chargers coach from twenty thirteen. Two Thousand Sixteen was wide receivers coach. And then also Greg Roman you might recognize who is currently the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens and that records all right. He's in higher mant. He really is. He wasn't back. Then if you look at this offense Because I I did my best to come up with names. You guys on his offense. There really aren't any the winky man. Yeah former heisman winner. Is that what they say? That good in college and the the Who are the commentators commentator duo of Kevin Harlan? And Craig James Our Craig James. During this game. I actually liked them because they did. All right that's come from Andy. You know there are great. They're definitely not the a team now. I will say that and I think they knew it so they were just having fun with it. Which is like when he calls out the block. Like the on the touchdown run that got called back and then recipe like what a great block in the play and on that guy. Yeah Yep yes and Blood Compton. Wearing the visor. It's like like drizzling overcast in December. They're snower North Carolina Gotten Adviser on. Yeah it was. It was like thirty six degrees in like freezing rain and you could see snow around the sideline and stuff yeah. I don't think it's no down there. Greg I'm surprised anybody. Silica the stadium once figured they would have shut down the state so Chris winky fun fact. He spent six years of the Blue Jays before going to Florida state. So he's joining us. Twenty six notion. He enrolled at Florida State so he must must've been close to thirty time. He got drifted. Remember that he was. What was the other guy that from Oklahoma state the Brown yes Brandon Weeden? He was the same guy but the guy Didn't help him much. That that Time and the on the Blue Jays. I don't think is completion percentage. I looked it up with fifty four percent on the year for the average fifty. Six doesn't sound that sounds low. V Corps is Great. It's easy completes. Just barely one of every two passes and all a lot of those are two the other team. He had eleven touchdowns in nineteen interceptions. Yeah he threw Koppel of bad pick sexism. Game a couple just got lucky. That one of them got called back for holding on the return though on the tyler so bad though not not the second one that got deflected right unless you can call it a great thrill but little lucky. The one the tyler off. It's just awful. Yes he just. I don't know if it's a flaw of his that nobody knew about but the guy couldn't throw an out pattern to save his life through was on an out pattern. And you just hit the defensive back right in the hands with nobody in front of him. Nobody I haven't no you're about Steve. Smith was a guy who's in targeting. This was rookie year and Bobby took him a couple of years figured out. I don't know Steve Smith flashing this game. Fumbled just going to say so Like Bob who is saying see Smith I for years was more of a kick returner and wants the proble for kick returns in this season but his kick returning in his game. Was God awful off like every time he I mean. There was a bunch of kickoffs. Patriots scored thirty eight points in this game. And every single one of them he ran directly into the nearest offender and got just rag doll every time it felt like a healing as a receiver. He was resulted in me at that. One big play that got called back. Yep He was. I haven't done here. He's spin the ball down thirty one. The ball way he would catch it near the sidelines. Instead of stepping out would hit the guy The defender and try to like lower shoulder and and get knocked out of bounds. Anyway because he's so small and spin the ball and start yapping. Nothing thirty one to six so as hundred percent compete one hundred percent of the time I will say there weren't many plays that I thought he was butthole naked. Interesting way to describe naked but sure that was his quote remember. He made the mistake of forty and behind a desk at a halftime show. I don't know what gives them the idea that that would go. Well but I think thousands quote was you got some Bob Dole Nagin Open. We talked about Ad Nauseam in the the the episode. Where altogether yes Steve? Come on pay attention. No kidding didn't show it all the way I like. I like him because he's like he knows a lot of like false bravado in the NFL. The Josh Norman's of the world the comapny boroughs a he strikes me as like legitimate crazy man provider where he authentically believes. He's that much better than everybody I would. I would be willing to bet that he would fight literally anyone. Yeah like just just thinking he would be able to to win every fight. The T. L. Isn't that like how do you how you put the l? Teo is a bit self aware for me. You know yeah similar but not the same. Almost yeah he knew what he was doing he was. He was playing the media to a certain degree. Oh definitely whereas Steve Smith is just like. He's out of his mind. Yeah I think Te'o is more of a showman like he was gonNA put on a show and he was telling enough to do that like he was going to pull the sharp out of his soccer. Go stand on the The star in Dallas. You know that's what that's fair. Who else is authentic crazy man bravado the closest comp to that hines? Harrison's that now he's quiet yeah he was but he was. He was fearless though. Yeah the same way that Steve Smith.

"Is then. This moment was like this was the very this. This was the lowest moment the entire franchise history. This game could qualify this game truly. It was like the abstinent of the Lowest Irian so like NFC for the one in fifteen season. There was all tra- embarrassing There was like winning that first game against Minnesota. We lost fifteen straight The team totally gave up George Siefert which like Kinda subtexts of all of that like truly. They stay like literally weren't playing at right guys. Were not like schilling up. Trying hard guys were faking injuries. It was like super embarrassing. 'cause like the team had initial high and like folks in the is really excited and I remember that being like a really embarrassing low point of like are they lose fan base. I actually looked this up today. Prepped for this that game this game against the think the only sixteen thousand people who so there well. It wasn't just that they were bad. It was like it was that they openly gave up and like a talking point of like how embarrassing this team in this coach and the morale were the other thing that happened. Here is the rake. A root thing overshadowed August remember that year. No wasn't well. The incident wasn't this year. That was nine nine with this was still playing out and I remember. I looked it up today to earn this. It was in this middle of this shit. Show season that. He was actually big. And so that got all dressed up and it just like the fucking low point of the Franz Good Lord maybe we got Chris winky themself out. Oh man the team gave up but the interesting thing is then after this was is what began really like I mean in my personal life kind of experience. The Golden Age of Panther Football. Like an you know. Interestingly it put us on a crossroads meet get in that Super Bowl two years later. The Jake degrom exactly Fox comes in. He clean things up This is Dan me going right from high school in College. All those season's over member quite fondly and just to go back to see for real quick I reading and I was reading. Because it's the we're all locked out right now. But I was reading a book by Mike Lombardi who was the old GM of the Patriots and before that he was actually gm of the forty niners in his whole thing about siefert was that Because he he took over for Walsh and the forty niners when Bill Walsh. When they're winning all those walls and everything and they were that dynasty and took over from them and basically what? You're saying that he knew how to run that system but he didn't know how to create it himself so bill wash created this system. Add rennet successfully Montana forever and then see for took over and kept going and want to see Super Bowl. The first year he in like when he was the head coach of the forty niners Got The conference championship. A few times won another super bowl and then lost individual round a couple of times and then moved on and that was like moving from Montana. Young and everything like that so I think from what I remember of him coming in. There was a lot of high hopes from from Carolina. Panther Panthers fans is that that's something you remember or am. I just made that up as like an outsider. No that's right. I mean it was interesting because he like son who the owner at the time. was already known as a pretty patient owner. And so you know we started out dom capers. Who like say what you want about. The Guy was like pretty popular and pretty energetic in the into that initial success might lose. It didn't work out. And he had a bunch of like kind of mediocre to bad seasons and left alike bitterly liked and respected for like thirty in the franchise and then they they clearly at that moment had like higher hoax in. We're kind of aimed big. And we're like we're GONNA get this like pedigree I think around quickly and then it was just shit show and it was really clear. This is a guy who was used. Coaching basically ready made championship. Team IS FLASH NOTHING AIRLINE OF ANCHOR CIRCUIT Two thousand. This is true so I think outside of this backing up before I get to that as Panther Fan. How do you view the Patriots like what? What do you of the Patriots? Yeah I mean they have to hold back. This is a pro pages podcast but where we scan the the whole gamut of their cheaters. Too So yeah. I don't think there's a lot there I mean you know that Super Bowl we played. Was You know at the end of the day kind of gets forgotten in the in the whole spectrum of things it ends up being a really exciting game Clear underdog in aim in like coming within. You know the field goal and so it's not like they're were like hard feelings Ursa and then beyond that it's then. How often do we meet? You know what I mean. It's like in the AFC only other game. I really remember all stretch was like thirteen or fifteen thirteen. We have this pain. We played you guys. Oh Yeah I just remember the non call end zone to win that game. We all remember that too. Yeah yeah remember that would and Brady was yelling at the rest on the way out. This and Belichick so was it. Pass interference I mean it was definitely clearly within the boundaries of being called out when you don't get it. Yeah that's you don't get recall. It's into the game. Yeah it's GonNa like make or break the clearly the game. Like ending play your. It was home in Carolina. Yeah they're probably not calling that Shit in the Super Bowl you know. Yeah and then they review it and then they're like we're going to let it stand fuck it whatever also a super fucking legit play from Kikwete. Annuity Yeah could have been called a whole and I think he probably took a calculated risk knowing that it was Gronkowski and you may as well because there are times where he he's handled. This motherfucker is conspiring on your fucking. So I was looking up to and I feel like outside of this one game in two thousand one. The Patriots and panthers don't really play like Boring Games. There was one in two thousand nine. Apparently that I don't remember at all. The Patriots won at home twenty ten but the other ones. There's two thousand thirteen while we're talking about twenty four twenty with the Leuke Gli twenty seventeen more recently. I think that was one of Stephon Gilmore's first game. Yeah and The Panthers Disposed Jack and the panthers one that would right the end. Thirty three thirty on some dubious. Those like a defensive holding penalty called after Cam got sacked on third down or something like that kept the drive alive in the winning. Kick the field goal and then of course the super bowl so there haven't been many games where they haven't been exciting so almost what I was looking this up. Kind of want to put the panthers in that kind of low key nemesis isn't the right word but just kind of like. It is almost a bit of a rivalry. I don't play each other very often. It's true although this this game that team along dead. I mean I would now thinking back about this put panthers. History three eras in. This game is the very. This was the dead in of the first Arab football. The ball in the John. Sarah was really second era. And then the like Ron Rivera Cam Newton era which honestly maybe is. Now maybe we call it the end of the third hour right now those. Those are the eras so far and apparently the panthers have sold out every home game since two thousand two so starting in that second era. Yeah they make sense that makes sense from my perspective. From like upward trajectory of the franchise unlike. What is that about? The redskins thing earlier like that was like that was an actual conscious narrative by the friendships. They knew they were constantly under threat. Actually wins and over. There were a lot of conscious decision so calling them. Carolina Panthers was very calculated like the inch line on Charlotte's border. It was very conscious to try to grow a large fan base knowing that an up hill battle on Polish basketball with the redskins baseball An honestly it's really since two thousand and two and a that. They've actually been able to successfully like they've basically put that argument rests that they weren't going to be able to thrive as small Mark Fan. I would agree with so so is Charlotte Panthers town. Just because for sure Raleigh Raleigh. Durham not really in my because I live in and that is definitely like college basketball. Like a million to see to stay are definitely the highest priority is percent at football fans. That are local are probably. They're like. Yeah I'm a panthers fan but it's not like you get patriots fans back home or Ryder. Die You know. I think that's totally true. And I think that that part of the state will always but college sports first and foremost I think Charlotte in western North Carolina are different and honestly the thing that gets forgotten to I just said is like a huge part of their fan bases South Carolina. Which has always been more football territory anyway And like they do draw huge base of their their Particularly like the black portion of the fan base is really heavily draws on like occupation of South Carolina which part of the reason why. Am has been such a big deal so you are. You glad camps gone supercell. Good we get. It's it's a very. It's a very sad moment the franchise in for everybody at Bridgewater. I mean it's a savvy signing like you know if you look at the market or the League's right now. Sure it's like a decent contract it's like it makes sense and like you know you gotta view this through the prism of newish owner. Who wants to make his mark new coach sheriff fine but at the same time from a standpoint of we'll give accomplished like it's tough and it's really sad to see things in this way and you know. The injuries really derailed. The last few years unlike is still look back on that stupid ass. Preseason game season when they played Cam Any artist against the past. You can't help but wonder how things play out differently with everybody with Ron with Cam. The season it's hard to stomach that I've been a little on the outside of it. The last year.

"You from the Toyota town school were no we're gonna get with Chris Winky we're gonna go to pretty rapid pace we'll go to the college football in the truck and over step in the final twenty five minutes and we'll get out the NFL alright here's what we've got going twenty seven sixteen Cincinnati taking care of business against central Florida this is a bad day for van I should say doing a really young freshman quarterback to central Florida three interceptions all inside the red zone which crush me because I'll be over in a game I mean there is one on the to your line you know they've been you just add another one how did it go as they were driving in to actually get a score and come with the a few points to right now is twenty seven to sixteen Cincinnati taking care of business now I do have Cincinnati plus four so all balance the books over there on central Florida ended up going off closing as a three and a half point favorite Nightline went up to sixty three and a half I gave it out of sixty close to sixty three and a half and should have been you know over I mean they're just when you turn the ball over inside the ten yard line you know several times not going to get those points in the forties settling for field goals early on no excuses is what it is but it's a big game for coach Fickell Cincinnati taking care of central Florida could be the second loss in the regular season for central Florida the number the loss to Pittsburgh by a point I know. for nineteen to go they're running out of time alright here's what we've got going on the only other college football game how about San Jose state and have talked to coach running because he's turned in our program around we saw them go down to Arkansas get a win and tonight people are like wait a minute how San Jose state as seven point favorites Bob Dave in New Mexico going up there to San Jose and they're getting lit up right now the Spartans twenty.

"The Heisman Trophy winner since two thousand it's been a quarterback every single time since two thousand but in three here's two thousand Chris Winky two thousand one Eric crouch two thousand and two Carson Palmer three Jason white for Matt Leinart then Reggie bush was the running back even though if you look at the Heisman records Reggie bush's name is taken out of that which I always think it's silly six choice Smith the Ohio state quarterback seven Tim T. bow eight Sam Bradford nine eight mark Ingram junior another running back two thousand and ten cam Newton alive in RG three and I actually been covering the Heisman since two thousand and twelve I've been to every single highs and since two thousand twelve besides two thousand and seventeen man's cell in twenty twelve Winston twenty thirteen Mariota in twenty fourteen Derrick Henry that's the third running back in two thousand and fifteen and Lamar Jackson Baker Mayfield and last year Kyler Murray I actually thought to attend the by Lois should have won the award last year and he did not I thought he was the best player in college football for this upcoming season according to a bottom here are the highs been odds to win Trevor Lawrence are plus two sixty and then here are some of the other names to get yourself thinking on who could be some other candidates for the Heisman Trophy I'm surprised and this topless that's on this website that there's one name that I don't see I wonder what is odds art that's Jonathan Taylor the running back from Wisconsin who last year posted almost twenty two hundred yards on the ground had sixteen I sing touchdowns so I was a little bit surprised that he was not in some of these top odds that I was just looking at on this website I'm on so maybe look up and see where his odds are at but to ensure belong to plus two sixty I would actually be a little bit surprised if one of them does not win the award but you never now eighty eight you know last year everyone thought Justin Herbert was going to be the number one overall pick in the draft and Justin her but ended up staying next year at Oregon I remember we were making fun at the the draft slogans because Dan was looking for a quarterback with the giants he ends up getting Daniel Jones we see what we'll see what Daniel Jones will be as a NFL quarterbacks would have been nice pre season but there was a slogan being used suck for the dock and that was with Justin Herbert whose plus sixteen hundred by the way this year to win the Heisman Justin fields the quarterback of Ohio state plus nine hundred Jaylen hurts plus one thousand Adrian Martinez plus thirteen hundred now Martinez I can't wait to see more of in this year and I can't wait to see what Scott frost in a brassica squad does look like in your number two and you know the frost background with offense in being a quarterback Martinez last year through from a sixty five completion percentage sixty five percent twenty six hundred yards seventeen touchdowns eighteen interceptions I'm assuming if you're gonna take Martinez to win the Heisman I've been seeing a lot of him it's going to be because of the dual threat you're gonna expect those touchdowns increase in last year was able to put up almost seven hundred yards on the ground in any touch down so maybe it's one of those ridiculous like type your strong the football and then also having the compliment I would be run game on the ground with what he's able to do through his own legs so age Martinez of QB in the brass give Jake from quarterback a Georgia if I had said to make here is the running back that I tease before the break if I see the pic someone from Georgia to win the Heisman or being a Heisman conversation I actually wouldn't pick Jake from I would pick the Andre swift the running back I'm a big fan of the Andre swift and it most likely will go to a quarterback I knew less if George occur when the I CC if George ones yes you say and so what does a monster like people expect it wouldn't shock me if the Andre swear to that plus twenty five hundred and to win the Heisman could be the guy that is representing Georgia in New York in December Sam Ellinger plus fifteen under quarterback of Texas DR king from AG five school Houston quarterback twenty five plus twenty five hundred and I'm a chip Patterson she Patterson's plus one hundred I had a white pick it up a Michigan quarterback I don't and the jury's still out it's tough to buy into Michigan even though urban Meyer is no longer there and kryptonite is good by just we've been told for over the last few years all this is going to be Michigan's year last year's especially this is their year though that definitely going to be a higher state and I got spanked in that game so it's it's are you going to continue to get fooled and you're going to continue to fall for the bait of Michigan football who could very well have a very good year and they have Patterson back but it's tough to believe in them one for so many years yeah you've got burned by them and you've got burned by them a ton so you know if you go with the running back I think you go with either Jonathan Taylor which it's tough to to do you can always get a pop big numbers in any could be a finalist but with that being said the it's it's one of the situations what which how much you believe in Wisconsin entering this football season I was gonna take a back I'm going to take a back from a team that I think is going to be one of those college football playoff contenders and that's why I would go de Andre swept over John to tell even though John Taylor probably will put up better numbers judging by his past but with that being said it's eighty eight it's a situation where I just think George is going to be a better team that John to tell I I use odds I just what I just saw our our plus twenty five hundred so there you go on that but overall that's just some of the the Heisman feel I remember last year was pretty high entry speak slowly winning the Heisman that was not the case wanted to be a little bit different this year it's tough to deviate away from what is chock from what is expected because I have a tough time when you go into the year knowing who the two best quarterback started splitting hairs to decide who is better it's tough to not at least think one of them will end up putting the highs been either to a chunk of I love or Trevor Lawrence and with Alabama that motivation is gonna be fascinating to see unfold you say like what motivations Alabama need but that's what's even dollars even and bell check very alike and have worked together in the past as we know it's a certain situation with no matter how much you win that the you you don't win those coaches find the why and I'm sure say bin is plastering all over his building Alabama's vulnerable where most people don't buy that and everything but they got blown out last year the they got exposed by clients in the SEC by is all of that blah blah blah blah blah he's probably using that to fuel his players now do they need it I don't know but it's tough to bet against makes a bin so that dynamic that we talk about just team lies with Alabama and Clemson is gonna be a whole lot of fun to track then you also have the Heisman race in it because I really do believe at the end of the day and Hey injuries happened sometimes fires on as good as we expect in I'd be surprised here I would be surprised if it's not to our Trevor Lawrence winning the Heisman for this upcoming season I get some intriguing jailer heard just because of the past with Lincoln Riley maybe want to go a gene Martinez as as one of those names I'm not ready to to do that yet Ellinger I don't think Texas is going to be a college football playoff team and you don't because of all playoff teams win the Heisman but it does help I especially at lanes here and and serving as a tie breaker like Herbert to bounce back and could be a finalist potentially but who knows it it varies from each year how many files they do take to New York City but at the end the day I think it's either going to be to add some go by lower Trevor Lawrence and do you get maybe that on the redemption tore for Alabama and we all know and they don't need to I retention toward the could that be one of the things they do want to check off his laughter I do think to it nothing against calamari but I do think to a should have won the award and he did not all right eight five five two one two four CBS we come back we'll talk about the U. tie "He's take what's there. And I think that one that's a byproduct of working with mardi morning Waigel at time. And then to that kind of rewires you a little bit in the, the Alex Smith sense of football that even though you've got those tools, you want to make sure that you're getting positive gains. You don't wanna put yourself behind the chains because while Joe flacco does have the ability to debate you out of that we've seen offenses before you haven't case keenum wasn't capable of pulling this offense out for. Behind the chains. Yeah. That's one thing that we were talking about during the break, I'd like to talk about for just a moment is because Vic Fangio is such a defensive oriented guy. And I know like Peyton Manning said, hey, look. It's coach. He's a coach coaches don't necessarily identify offense defense. If they're just a good coach. I'm like Vic Fangio's defensive coach. He he's made no mistake about that actually really great, quote from flacco that I'm gonna play for you guys later that I really I really enjoyed because Vic Fangio his compete level during practice is fantastic. And if the officer gets the better of he makes them, rerun it. And it's one of those like now you're going to be what he felt so we're gonna we're going to beat you. I think that's awesome. But then he gave the offense a second chance today. Yes. In a two-minute period in practice, because they had a short drive that was six plays in out after a peered out just past midfield. And so after the twos, went he threw the ones back out there to go against each other. For another series. And that was actually when they had the tight end and running back intensive possession. The thing I was going to bring up is something that you guys were talking about is, is where his mindset is with the offense. Like where if we get to a point where the offense is struggling say offense isn't really keeping up there into the bargain, the defense is getting gas because they're doing too many three and outs. They're not developing their identity fast enough won't Vic Fangio's patience level, be with rich scannon Garoppolo. Joe flacco in that offense is he going to have a what was he say to him. I need you to run some clock. I need you guys to start being look either remorse of, let's grab something. But what, what is, how is he going to address the offense specifically, especially as a defensive guy, why that is the question? I think that's, that's the, the variable a known here because he doesn't have a resume that we can go back and look at Vic Fangio's history is a defensive coordinator says that, that patient's level is not going to be very high, but we don't know but Vic Fangio the CEO it head coach. We just don't know that yet. We'll figure that out. Now. It's possible that if things go askew on offense and the risk is the reward is not worth the risk that he could go in the John FOX direction. Now John FOX when he had paid manning had some explosive offenses. When he Jake the Lome Steve Smith, the angel Williams, Jonathan Stewart Moussa Muhammad had some very good offense offenses in Carolina. But when it wasn't working, he basically lock the wheels. Said this and to tights to backs. Gotta love it. Well, John FOX has the distinction of having one games at each of his coaching stops in which his team compete completed four or fewer passes, right? Every stop didn't Carolina the the first wildcat game when Chris Winky replaced cake dome. And when he was terrible, wildcat and a game in Atlanta. Then, of course, the game in twenty eleven from tribes Tibo hit, Eric decker, one of the thing, too complacent, and they did it with your Bisky right out of the blocks against Carolina. Right. Appropriately enough. Right. It's it's one of those dubious statistics. That's I love it. Just as long as Vic Fangio doesn't say as John FOX wants uttered, sometimes upon is not a bad play chase. Here's what Joe flacco had to say about Vic Fangio competitiveness in practice. There's no doubt you can you can see it, man. I mean, I think a couple of weeks ago, we did a little situation and I threw a touchdown pass to Tim in the back of the end zone. And like the period is supposed to be over supposed to be too. Big. All right. Right back. All right. We'll try to win. I guess it'll be t- again, you know, now you can tell you know, he's a head coach, but he's, he's got that he's.

"So I love. This is the zone. Coming back to the zone Jamie Jamie Moore's madly on the other side of the guys. Yeah, I yeah. I messed that one, it's one of those days man as one of those things. Yeah. I said, we will talk football. I decided we might as well. Get this all out in the open right now. Running back. Chris Evans will be suspended for the entire two thousand nineteen season. Dude academic issues. Look, he wasn't on the team of during the spring. Anyway, they've got to figure figure out who they're running backs. They're gonna be the they've, they know what they have now and they know the status of, of Chris Evans. Chris Evans says he looks forward to coming back the following year. Twenty well, we'll see. I don't doubt that he's going to do that. And he will probably because he's determined to show that he was he that he he's going to stay. But that being said, Michigan's got a turn to page on Chris Evans for right now and move to who they're going to do, whether it's true will true Wilson. Christopher turner. Zach Chardonnay Ben van. Be vans van what is it? It's banned. Messing it up to myself. But whoever that should be. We'll see. I mean it's Glenn summer and Ben then summer summer thing. Sorry. I mean we'll see what they have. And they're going to have to figure it out. There. I mean that's, that's, that's, that's a big key for Michigan running the running game. We say it's going to be a key. We know that. Hey, they expect the put the ball up in the air, a lot more than what they done in the past, but they still want to have a strong running present and what I mean by that is they wanna be able to run the ball effectively, and when they want to, and they wanna hit you. I mean, if you and I always say this and I hate saying this, if you watched the Alabama film, or if you watched the Penn State, Phil when Joe Moorhead was the offense coordinator at Penn State of. That's what they did. They hit you with those those, those quick, quick right off right off and hit, you off off tackle in the running back make make the cut and make the move and do the things this supposed to do. I think this office was designed perfectly for Chris Evans. I honestly thought so but. That being said, I think it, it works well for all these running backs I don't back that I can tell you that I haven't seen play or participate, is that Chardonnay? I mean we I mean we've seen them on film. Sure. A but I haven't seen him in action live action or anything like that. So I can't say you know that this offense is Bill for him. But, you know, some, some of the coaches think that is everybody else. We've, you know, like you said everybody else we've seen then summer in San Haskins. We've had a chance to see him whether it was game or practice. You know, you've had a chance to, to see them Zack. He's the one who he's been hurt haven't haven't had an opportunity to see him till now. But yeah, with what Chris Evans. Skillset is the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, which if we are in a more of a. You know, they call it the pro spread but it's still more of a spread offense. You, you think that, that could be a big weapon for shape. Patterson potentially coming out of the backfield him catching balls. But that is again, we, we knew he was off the team. We weren't sure exactly if he would be brought back if at any point, but now with it somewhat being laid to rest like, you know again, I'm not happy to hear about this. I wish that he could be part of the team. But, you know, for me now at least eliminates that question, Mark, could he come back? Is he around? Could he play money not play? Now we know he's he's not playing next year. We don't know what's going to happen with the future. But we at least know for the two thousand nineteen season. He will not be participating. So now we've got to figure out, whether it is true or has skins or van summer in or, you know, the number of guys Chris Turner. You know, we gotta figure out who is going to be. But we know these for this upcoming season. It will not be Chris Evans. No, we will not be. And, but on a now here's the good news for all of you. Donovan band. Donovan van people's people's Jones, excuse me. Donovan van PBA Jones Jones and Nico Collins seem to be called healthy ready to play some football. They've got to catch up, obviously Nico was out there doing some things working with the team, but not doing team drills and different things like that. But Donovan missed the entire the entire spring ball, and he's got to catch up on reps, and different things like that, but he did watch practising different things. But there were people that were freaking out, the oh, we don't know his injury much worse than coach said, no, no, no freaking out. Oh, jane. Nobody out. No. You weren't free. No. I wasn't freaking out. There were a lot of Michigan fans out there freaking out. He wasn't gonna play on him her boss. It could be a season injury season ending injury. So they freaked out. What really if the head coach tells you that? If somebody says that and he's the head coach, it could be a season ending injury, yet a freak out that's coming from the man's about the man's mouth. Okay. So don't they have a reason to frequent in say that they didn't have a reason for that right now? Saver. No, those people who did freak out, I'm sure feeling a whole lot better. But there's a lot of times we hear something one time or people take it as truth. Or is the problem is the problem is, is that we don't know, only player knows his body. Okay. We don't know when he'll be ready and let me tell you coaches, all of them I can point to the defensive back coach last year. When was hurt. Remember was her and long long was hurt. They both were hurt and he was upset. Remember he was I don't know what we're gonna do these guys. I don't know. We're not where we want to be. Remember you went off. Oh, yeah. He went off. This is what happens when coaches can't get their players to participate in spring ball because they have nagging injuries it happens. So when you get an injury and it's a girl, it's what do we call that? Kind of what do we call that? Soft tissue, wound tissue issue. It's an issue so coaches go to you and say it could be season injury seizing. And you're like, wait a minute, and the kids, probably go. I'm getting better. I don't know why you say. So I'm saying, yeah. Probably freaked out. Everybody kid include it. He just tried to get healthy. But now he's healthy sounds like he's healthy. He'll get he'll get he'll get you know, he'll get those space rip. Wraps right now and get used to doing doing the reps that coach Gaddis had the other receivers doing different things like that. But he won't get into live live drills and everything like that until camp starts. So he'll, he'll catch up. He'll he'll figure it out. He's a smart. Hey, hi, q, and football, high Q and football here, so, and it's great to hear me. Go cows. Three black tweak black. I'm knocking on my hey, because I'm knocking on wood told us that he can't break those feet again. Can't those those bones that have been broken. He broke up on the right foot. Get a mole for that young man foot, make sure it fits in net shoe. I know it sounds funny but it's true. Not, not quite design affect to make sure that make sure it sticks in getting them. Oh, you know, you want to get that thing in it, and hey, tape it where you can't tape it like a cast tape it up. I don't want that boys toes being moved anywhere in Ned shoe. James. The tape on the outside like that, some one of those old Cornerbacks. But. Jamie. I mean that it's just it's I'm sure coach Gaddis would agree. I'm sure every, you know, having those three healthy and ready to go for what Michigan is trying to do with this new offenses is going to be crucial. Having big wide receivers. We've said we've said that this receiving core. And I'm talking about the whole receiving core with Josh Gad is coming in being the offense coordinator being the receivers coat. That's his forte. I mean he did it at Penn State he did it. He did it Alabama. He made them progressively better I expect this receiving core to be outstanding making plays all over the field. And I expect that quarterback to get the ball to that shape. Patterson Dylan McCaffrey, Joe mill I don't who get the ball to get it in the air. It's not fifty fifty. It's eighty it's eighty twenty now. Okay, I'm making it. Eighty twenty I expect you put it in the air they make it happen. I liked that receiving core. Like what I've seen in the young guys to in the young guys too. I like what I've seen in this. He's got a fabulous fabulous at. I don't wanna get all into gush all over the place. But. That, that receiving core, and that offense of li-, heart and soul of that offense right now, they'll be the heart and soul. Along with the hey, RPO's, along with the RPO gotta make the rates got to make the rates if it ain't suck sucked down and go because you've got another one back into them up. You got another one, you get your bell rung get on over there. You can get another one in there, but Jamie if. Can we, we want to be that championship team? Do we need the heart and soul to be at the quarterback spot, or can it be on that offense ivine and with the wide receivers? No didn't look the guy that carries the ball. The most you know you gotta have a dynamic quarterback. I feel that way Marcus Ray said that to me a couple years ago, and I thought about. No, you can have a dynamic player on any anywhere. Peter Warrick was a dynamic player for the for the Florida state, Florida state Heisman there. He didn't get it because he got suspended. Remember who won the Heisman there? I don't know his quarterback. Chris, wink, Chris Winky fill the quarterback the quarterback. Okay. I got you. But he was getting the ball to who. Sec. Player comes. That's what I'm saying. But he gets to spend Heisman says we can't give it to you. You guys spend it. Okay. But I'm the best player. I'm the best in the country. We're not going to give the guy catching all the balls. We'll give it to throw it. Exactly. I'll just look the offense needs to step up this year. Because look if you're going to have offense coordinator, you gotta have a dynamic offense a dynamic player on your offense. I think from from the two units that I know that I see it'll be it'll be what, what we think it'll be a dynamic. Hey, it'll be an office that next unstoppable, but gotta find that running back gotta find that running back whether it's whether it's by committee until you find him. You know what I'm saying? It's that's what they've done..

"Like a part of it. Do you think they screwed it up? If you're Miami. Dolphins fan. Are you happy? Do you think you have your franchise quarterback now in Josh Rosen? Our giant fans happy finally got a quarterback or is everybody still going to be Scoffing over will. You know, we got this once in a lifetime player in Cinco Barkley. But I gotta tell you. I would much rather have had the quarterback last year. Even though we got a quarterback this year. And then some other players in the first round. I really wonder four years from now giant fans will be complaining about an eleven in five football team because the jets are twelve and four with Sam darnold and they're eleven five Daniel Jones, but we're going to go back and continue to really that day over and over and over and over and over again. Let me just hit a couple of teams here and give you some quick thoughts. Kyla Murray was not worth the number one pick in the draft. Kyla Murray went there because of the situation in Arizona, and because they brought in a new coach, and because the GM is borderline incompetent now truly funny that I say that because after collar Murray, I really like what the Zona cardinals have done initiators draft. Byron Murphy at the top of day to yesterday. I thought that was the easiest pick. But he was one a really three guys that was worthy of going to the top of that round. And then even though they got a very late second round pick for Josh Rosen. They turn around and took a speedster in India's Abella where you put his five nine hundred ninety pound frame up against or you know, you. Pair him with a bigger wide receiver in Larry FitzGerald for whatever. Whatever fits has left. I think my guy is is gonna do a hell of a job out there. And then Arezzo turns around and it gets that calendar defensive end from Boston. College of top of the third round who I think comes in and can compete for starting playing time right away producer, Tom and I were talking in the off air show. Then maybe some of these fringe SEC defenders are guys who were maybe they're not overwhelmingly talented, or they don't flash your stand out the way Quinton Williams does. But in the fifth round Arizona got Dante Thompson, a safety from Alabama who I think might be able to at least be a rotational player. Maybe if not more. So I really like what the Arizona Cardinals have done here in this draft. You know, I look at some teams in scratch my head a little bit. You know, the Cincinnati Bengals right? They got an extra offensive tackle. Meaning to me. That means they believe in the quarterback. And I don't know if they should be believing Andy Dalton anymore. Yeah. They get another tight end in drew sample and a guy from Washington, and they did take the quarterback Ryan Finley from NC state, which will be interesting. But yeah, I look at Cincinnati. And I wonder if there's some missed opportunities there. I do like Green Bay did. I love the fact they went defense defense picks one. And to look when you're paying your quarterback a ton of money. And that's what the Green Bay Packers are doing. They're paying Aaron Rodgers Tonnetto. You better have some cheap labor on the other side of the ball. And they also get Aaron Rogers center Elton Jenkins from Mississippi State. You always gotta be firm up the middle. And as Rogers gets older you need to be better up the middle for him as the patriots have found out Tom Brady. So I like what Green Bay is done in this straffed, which just touched on Miami. Look if Miami's draft is nothing more than a bunch of currency next year Christian Wilkins and Josh Rosen. Hats a hell of a draft. Let's remember Roseanne was the top ten pick last year. The the they essentially trade it. Umass wide receiver Andy Isabella four Josh Rosen. Mets really the essence of the deal premium good. So like Miami's done and they maintain flexibility. Just in case Rosen isn't the real deal. In other raters. Look the raiders got a lot of talent. I like more of their later picks than their earlier picks Justice agree with men, they they overdrafted some guys in the first round. And I still think that that ends up coming back to bite in the butt. And then there are some teams that. You don't want to give credit to. People are gonna think I'm being a home or honking out form or something. Like that one. I'm really not. I just like what they've I think the patriots. They they had a wide receiver on the outside. Here's what in the keel. Harry is to me, right. If you think of a couple years ago when the patriots have Brandon Lavelle and Lavelle was one of those guys outside receiver next receiver where if he gets you fifty catches for seven hundred fifty yards and five touchdowns in year. One you'll take that kind of production. And then see him grow with Tom Brady in this offense. But we talked about chase one of each Joe on Williams is a big corner and Bill bell. Check said something in his pre-draft press conference where he said, you know, you're getting wide receivers of all types and sizes. So you got to have people to cover those guys. He was kind of tipping people off that they might be interested in a corner. And of course, the patriots traded back couple of times, you know, they end up getting at least a little bit more currency for next year. Is there a draft that you like did your team have a great draft? Or did you disagree with the strategy right to the phones? Eight five five two one two four CBS Steve is North Carolina kicking off our three of the gresh show CBS sports radio. Hi, steve. Steve go ahead. My friend. Steve going once going twice, Stephen gone. Let's go to James who's down in Charlotte, North Carolina, James your next gresh, show, CBS sports radio. What's up? I'm good James. What do you have the co Carolina? I they drafted some good stuff. They fixing pick. They ended up getting Brian burns whose F rusher out of Florida state who can come off the edge. You've got quick length and very quick speed. So they fill the whole they lost Julius peppers. And plus they lost two linebackers Thomas. Davis and mayo. So they got a hold it can fill their he recorded four four and a half taxes off more year and ten his union year recorded forty eight hackles on his sophomore year fifty two that year. So I think they get hard there with the hundred picks they select will Greer the quarterback out of West Virginia who can throw the football with the best of them. He showed it in the game against Texas through over five hundred yards. His father was a quarterback at ECU coach down here in the state of North Carolina for high school football that feels that whole behind Cam Newton who had that shoulder injury last year with the wide receivers they got he can to Curtis Samuel. And DJ more plus whole they still have hold there. So I think that's a great fit there. Plus the Redskins I like their draft as well. They got a franchise quarterback into Wayne Haskins at sixteen than they got a good defensive and Amman sweat and then in the fourth round with one hundred twelve th pick they grab bright love. So they have three dynamic players. They're Washington's well, what do you think about what James? Thank you will take it off the air. Let me starve Carolina can't argue with the burns pick at all. In fact, I think he was a late riser, and they were smart to snag him where they did. He reminds people of Leonard Floyd. In fact, I'll go back to what my my guy Frankwell writes draft, insiders dot com rising top twenty prospects with the athletic ability to become a playmaker finance rusher. The -veloping big play town continues to take big steps problem. It probably. Mid first round pick and he had dolphins. Redskins giant Steelers Packers interested. He was right in that round. And he writes defender on the comb, which is exactly what you're looking for. You know, producer Tom typed up Tom you thought the Panthers needed some secondary health. They're probably a safety especially because it had multiple picks with good secondary players on the board. I think if you talk to a lot of Panthers fans if we were in North Carolina right now, there'd be a lot of people calling up complaining that. There was no secondary help. It was a big complaint last year. But you know, they made smart picks everywhere else. They just somehow clearly did not prioritize adding safety and really need like a starting safety. Well, and I'll tell you this in to your point, Tom, and we talked about like Dante Thomson guy slid to the fifth round, you know, Carolina had to prioritize quarterback. Did they not like they couldn't go through another year? If if Cam Newton shoulder starts barking, again, they they couldn't just turn to Chris Winky or whomever the hell they've had on the roster like Taylor heineke. I saw him at ODU doesn't get it done. Right. They needed somebody. Who would? So maybe the third round pick the, Mike. Have gone to secondary. They had to really protect themselves because of the quarterback injuries last year. And maybe that ended up taking a corner off the board or a safety. But I think he makes a good point. The Panthers didn't need some back end help it just feels like they had to go and other directions to kind of continue to patch together. Totally agree. I think that that came down to either Greer or safety, and I like they went with Greer because I think he is going to be a backup solid back, maybe even a plus backup. And maybe even the kind of player that they could trade for a pick in the future. Because I'm I'm particularly high is my third quarterback in his class. And not think he was the first round player. But I didn't think he was far off it. So I think they actually have a legitimate real backup now, and they need one big value right there. I mean that's late third round that they ended up getting will. And I'm with you. I had him higher than ended up getting drafted now in terms of the Redskins. Anytime you hear the owners jumping in. It's bad news. I'm not anti Dwayne Haskins. Just hearing him after the draft and not being appreciative of being taken by team or he has a chance to start. But it's he went the Josh Rosen wral league done messed up man fine. I mean, he just he just screams Redskins player would comments like that. Bryce love. That's a good solid back. You get in the fourth round experience, you could probably plug and play him right away. Montas sweat will be interesting. Here's what it feels like for me with the Redskins. If there's a shiny toy they want it. It's not about building the best football team. It's going on and getting the shiny toy that everybody could fall in love with. And no one's going to, you know, rag on yet for taking Dwayne Haskins their fifteen considering some consider he fell to that spot. But I don't know. There's just something about the Redskins where it seems like they draft for flash versus drafting for putting together a roster. And they do. You know, what it is like Mike tannenbaums running that team? It's weird. But this one is interesting. I think it's worth talking about because they're in a position where they had a deep quarterback need. They obviously we're interested in Rosen. It didn't work out that way, and they had a player fall to them at basically where I think is exactly correct value mid. I think he can be an NFL star is going to be we talked about this is you're going to be any better than Byron left, which probably not the Byron left, which was a legitimate NFL star. And that is what they need. And that's what came to them in the draft. And he could be more than that. I don't think the upside I think he's got upset. I don't think it doesn't exist. So it brings a philosophical question though. Is it worth it taking a first round quarterback? Who may not have the upside of an actual superstar? If you have any and you get him at the proper value. I think you have to play the board and take your player, but others argue that locks you into a guy now into a forty five year cycle with Haskins that might not be a good thing to Tom is that there wasn't the one guy like last year. It was boy mayfield's really good darnold. Really good. It felt like there were got. Yes. Maybe Josh Allen was a little bit of a reach. But most people looked at Mayfield in darnold, and it was okay..

But I do I gotta tell you man, I'll be patient, and I hope this works out in the long run. But I didn't like, and I agree with Flannery and even a Mike great. This goes this files under the Jeremy curly rule of I always say, hey, guys, you're going to look back on your and realized Jeremy curly led the Niners in reception. My moment of that kind of like realization was I believe it was the end of the oath six campaign would Chris Winky started at quarterback for the Niners in Cleveland. Oreo seven or whatever. But that's one of the things like did that even the peaches toolbox and find that rich Eisen when we asked them Niners at Cleveland and Chris Winky was starting for the Niners. And we said, hey, is are you ready is in came on to promote his new venture. The NFL network was just getting off. Going around. This thing's going to work, and we said if it's gonna work are you ready for wacky in Cleveland and on it right now brother, I'm always boned up on my Winky knowledge. I do here's Tim Flannery before I go to sleep. I'm going to say a prayer that the giants get an outfielder who can hit a couple of home runs. I don't I don't need analytics to be convinced utility players should not be starting on opening day. The season seemed to sneak up on them. That's as nice as I can say it, Amen. Hey, murph. Wrote, you know, the far hunts footsoldiers wrote in and said. It's about youth. You gotta give you the chance Flannery wrote. What's he ever done? Why should he have a voice Flannery wrote youth and everyday players in the big leagues are two different things. Oh, thanks. Yeah. You want to clarify that for he's only a lifetime. Baseball guy ready for this guy. Go ahead. I'm now getting pissed the I don't wanna get pissed today. I'm too tired. You're right too much. It's too hard. Joe listen, Flannery tweeden. I'm okay with playing them three weeks from now but opening day you start role players, then you either have injuries to your everyday guys or your computer has a virus. Oh, yeah. Why on folks on this was so in other words, it's not just Murph, by the way. Listen, I'm looking at my board. It's so lonely on page one. It's so freaking lonely over there. Because that's where I have my Denzel. And you know, what else is over there Murphy's, my Bobby bombs away. And I'm it looks awful dust and dodgers eight homers on opening day. We are asking the question. How long till the giants. Hit eight homers, just for the sake of shakin all this up. I'm going large. And I'm going. Go to your sporting Grieg's, Niner GM, John Lynch on the other side. We gotta get your sporting green and tell go go looking at giant schedule. The those. They're gonna play three more in San Diego. Three in LA, doesn't they get about three there? They have Tampa Bay at home for three. They're going to get more one or two there that's four or five. You've had Greg Olsen who moved on these Jon Gruden right Tolson. We'll see who's next the Rams seven hundred anybody to place Zack Taylor, but you know, a little bit like you're talking about your she just wanted to have one guy. I would imagine for Jared Goff. Look, hopefully, there's upward mobility in your coaching staff. You want guys to go on and get bigger and better jobs, but to have a guy for a couple years in a row pry wouldn't be a terrible idea. No. But he, but in terms of the grand schemes and things he's not those coaches aren't really coaching him. It's this coaching me. Sean McVeigh, they're they're title. They work with him. They may sit in offense of staff meeting rooms him it tell him something's. But overall the guy who's calling the place is the one who's coaching. Shami vase the head coach calling the plays. But yet and still they may be running him through the drills with the rest of the quarterback. But when it comes down to Sean the guy. Yeah. In that voice. Sean McVeigh's the guy that he's gonna spend most of his time with to go. But we would still be nice. If the the first Lieutenant the quarterback because look Sean vague is the head coach he's in. He's in charge of the entire team. He needs to meet with not just the quarterbacks. He needs to meet with a line coach needs to meet with the running back. Coach tight ends coach receivers coach, but when quarterback meetings, and I don't know this one hundred percent, but I'm almost certain the Sean McVay is in a quarterback meeting. Yeah. I believe that he probably is. But there are times when he's not going to be with the quarterback Cam guy this I get it. I get shocked as the most important person and deals Hanan Joerg off to lunch. We'll be back with the Jason Smith show in ten seconds. But first a word from farmers hot air balloons. Landing on a car to a load of concrete falling on one. We've covered it talked to farmers. We know what thing too because we've seen a thing or two. Volvo underwritten by farmer's truck fire insurance exchanges and affiliates products available in every state Jason Smith Mike Harmon back to you guys. Are they gonna DC you bet? Thanks to Jason lockenfora for stop by talking about Cuyler Murray who announced today, he's headed to the NFL draft does have seventy two hours to change his mind. The Oakland as are going to try to change his mind. They're already paid him five million dollars to play baseball for him in what's going to be the big topic of conversation. Should he play baseball? Should he play football? Scott fifteen million reasons to not play baseball. However million reason you. I five million reasons. But just think about it this way in if he's picking between baseball and football, certainly the as we'll give him more money to stay right now. Whether it's twenty million I don't think they really need to pony up a lot of give them more money out. But Kyla Murray is looking at being drafted in the first round 'cause will be a first round pick because there's a dearth of quarterbacks people always want quarterbacks. So someone's gonna take him now is he going to be a top ten pick her outside at right now he's outside the top ten but being a quarterback taken in the first round you're going to play you're going to get probably closer to twenty million dollars in guarantees. You're getting five million right now for baseball now twenty million dollars. If you're a star player in in the NFL, you'll get a couple of big contracts as a quarter, not even not out on the outset. How many endorsements does he have right, right? And he'll get just talking about cash. Like, you're not making that toiling in the low minor. No, no, no, the Oakland A's now in the end if you're looking at a career if he becomes say he could become a star in both sports. Right. He comes a star. Football and a starred major league baseball. He will make more money in baseball. If he picks baseball all the way to the end because he'll be able to play longer his. Chance of getting injured as a little bit lower salaries are higher. He will be that kind of a player. But if he doesn't he'll get more money in football because he'll get more money upfront and football than he will. He may never see the major league. But that's it. Toiling the minor leagues for a number of years ride the bus, right? He can also play one two years in the NFL not get it done. And then that's it you're done. And then you're like, okay. Can I go back to baseball? The thing. He's got to realize is that when he makes his pick have a different conversational bit about Colin Murray is that you are picking this for the rest of your life. Because if you pick football, you're going to give it at least three years, right? At least your first round pick at least most of your contract, or until it looks like you're not gonna start anymore because you're not getting cut you're gonna stay. And maybe if you don't become starting quarterback your first year. It's your second year your third year. You're going to be away from baseball for four years. Let's just say it doesn't work out in football. If you're gonna go play baseball. Again, you're not a first round pick that we gave millions of dollars to that. We are going to ensure makes it to the major leagues. That's where Kyla Murray is now he is an asset. If he decides to go play baseball after three or four years away. He's a flier. He's not making any money to say, you know, what if you somehow? How make it great. But now you're talking about not make it to the major leagues. So you're thirty years old. And then what kind of contract or you're gonna get you have to realize you can't just say. All right. If I play football now, I can play baseball later. You're not gonna be able to the reason VO Jackson and Dion Sanders able to do it is because they establish themselves in football. I so and they then decide to say or want to go play baseball. Well, all right. We've already given you a lot of money. You're a star player in football will figure out a way to make it work. She'd go play baseball drew Henson tried to do. But couldn't do it players who try to go from one sport to the other. You can't just make that flip that switch. Okay. Now. I'm gonna go back and be the great baseball player. Look at Tim tebow guy, you know, because he's Tim tebow. He keeps getting headlines, but he's thirty one years old and the minor leagues you'll be thirty one. Yeah. But what's he making ES Orion making it? No, no. No, no. But it's the larger picture you gotta look at right because Colin Murray, even if he flames up baseball, he could say, hey, I'm showing up in a card show on Sunday and still put fifty grand in his pocket without still going to want to be in that when you fly six years old you still want to be. I get that though. But if you go play football, and even if you're Chris three four years in flames out, you pocketed some fifteen twenty million dollars. Whatever that number is go ride the bus go. Hang right. You had that success? You could give it another crack if it works. Great. If it doesn't you'll have already had a career and you'll still have enough money to go. Do what you want and with that Heisman tagline? That's right in a ticket. I mean, Pete Rose look for years. Right. It never in the hall of fame. But he always right is number of hits, Charlie hustle. Whatever the hell on as many baseball's and helmets says he wants, right? But he what he wants to play it. You know, it's about not about. Okay. I can go to CarShield. It's about I wanna play. And he's never going to be a solution or an answer when he's twenty six twenty seven changing sports what he's going to be a curious, but you go the other way you play baseball inflame out. How are you going to try to go back? He started a little bit. But he had a great career ahead of a, but he was never able to choose. But the point is if you go. For a couple of years, and then decide to go. This is going back to college. This is Chris Winky Moana. These guys this is a different different animal here. Right. This is a Russell Wilson. No. But whatever he picks. He's got this is it this is what I'm sticking with because I'm not going to be able to go play something else at some point. And I'll I'll go one step further for you, really fast. Baseball has a big time star issue. They need to make this happen. I found the eighth. I I gotta find a way. How do we get you to come play baseball and be a future star? Because when you make it to the major leagues it's Heisman Trophy winner. Kyla Murray push them all the way through he's already more popular than most anybody in baseball him. Talking about him or get him to play. Baseball's gotta step up. They gotta do it. He's right now. Football. Let's do something. You got to do something Twitter at about a Fresca..

I mean, I'd like to be six six, but I'm not he would like to be five ten east five nine. And I don't know what he's thinking. But you know, this is a debate here because of the position that he plays. Do you take the security of baseball, the four point six million dollars, guaranteed contracts, or do you give football shot and the debate usually comes down to health and money, the debate with that you think of health and that position at quarterback and the money now he can make more money in the NFL right away. We know the dangers of football, but you can't help. But notice these huge contract in baseball. And that's only if you make it in the majors. There are a lot of guys who've been drafted high who spent years in the minors if you're gonna draft Cuyler Murray and chances are team will draft him in the first round. He's going to be on the roster and has a chance to play maybe even start. But either way Murray can't lose. He's going to make. Money. And we don't know how his talents will translate to the NFL. Kyle Murray if he's actually playing he's twenty one he's old enough to play in major what we tune in to find him. That's a one baseball player. I'd want to see over anyone. How many full baseball games? Did you watch last year? Washington nationals with Bryce Harper. So the biggest star how many Yankee game? Now. I watched a lotta Yankee games. But how many Oakland as games did you watch? But if Tyler. I would rather see him Bryce Harper one Carla Murray too. I would I would find Kyla Murray. If he was on the opening day roster. The as I would watch you watch more Oklahoma football games than Oakland A's. Baseball game. Of course. Okay. One hundred sixty two Oakland as games to watch. I think maybe the most interesting baseball, he'll LV what have a few maybe one of the most interesting NFL players. He should do both. I hope that he goes into the NFL draft for our sake. Because this is this a pretty dry draft coming up. Hey, let's get excited about d'alene Haskins. Hey, let's talk about some defensive lineman here. Let's project where Ed Oliver's going. Let's talk about three technique. Guys who put their hands in the dirt. Collar murray. I hope I hope for our sake, you decide you want to go into the NFL draft. And I would think it goes back to when Cuyler Murray was on. And I was asking about the I just wanna know if he loves I I was told he loves football. But he's really good at baseball. But as it turns out, he's really good at football as well. But this is what Cuyler Murray had to say when he was on with us a few weeks ago. Would you watch football? Football game. Okay. But you're going to be playing baseball for a living. Yeah. But I'll I'll definitely watch football game. Do you love you love football more than baseball? Even though you might be more successful in baseball or have a longer career in baseball. I love. Oh, it's not the question if I love it's just from games. No. I can't really explain it. You know unless. Unless you play both of this level. You really you really don't know who I can put it just football. You know, you get the rush of running out two hundred thousand equal in baseball. You got maybe maybe five thousand people watch news. I was talking about the Oakland A's attendance figures there that you got five thousand watching is pretty spot on. Yeah. There is something about that. Though of. I think it comes down to a few things here. The you're still relevant. If Connor Murray gets drafted by the Oakland A's, he's going to single a baseball. Maybe double a baseball. How long are you going to be there in the minor leagues? And even if you're being brought up. Near you still playing for the Oakland A's. Nobody cares. But if you're playing for the Oakland, Raiders, everybody cares. Maybe you could play both. Maybe we've already got the commercial ready for Bo Jackson and and Cuyler Murray and PO Jackson would just pass the baton to Cuyler Murray. Just give him as come out and give him his baseball or his speaking of an Oakland raider. No with a Bo Jackson there. So the raiders have three picks in the first round. So I just throw it out there the possibility that he could do both or maybe it is just football. Yeah. Paulie? I asked the numbers for you. We'll say hypothetically Kyla Murray was the last pick of the first round. He would get a signing bonus of five million dollars and who guaranteed salary over the next four years of his contract. Four point five million. Even if he was injured or cut nine point five million dollars guaranteed with football. And then that doesn't count endorsements in any way, which he seems to be the most endorsement guy out of this draft. If he was drafted, but he could play football try. Football. And then go to baseball. If it doesn't work out. He can be twenty five years of age. And all of a sudden, you know, say, hey, I'm going to go play baseball Kris Bryant, the great Chicago Cubs third baseman. He was twenty four. I think when he got his chance. So you know, he's got possibilities there. Yes. Mclovin. Couldn't play baseball. And then play football lake. Jill Hanson Wang ki LA age did that too. I think but I don't think you'll be hot as relevant there. I would take advantage of this star power that you have as hyphen trophy winner to be able to go into the NFL and this whole run pass option. You know, who knows what the NFL is going to be like in five years if you decided to play baseball and then wanted to play football, I'm guessing it would be harder to go baseball and then come back and play football. Instead of the other way around. I think I don't know that that I feel like it's it's really never been done. The other way around Tebas the first where a lot of people have given the baseball early. Because once you're in the NFL kind of ruins your. But I think that he's ready now, football wise. I I don't know. I mean, I've seen highlights him in baseball. And he looks dynamic, but you're going to still be in the minor leagues. I don't care how athletic you are. Can you hit a curve ball? I mean, that's that's what it comes down to ask Michael, Jordan. Now the best athletes on the planet. You still have to be able to hit a curveball breaking ball. Dan,.

"Well, then they they did it, right? You're good, man. You're fucking champ. I am a third year. You've been in the league this. Yes, they're year. All right. The first year I was like middle of the pal. Damn thirty three percent of the time. You win. Yeah. I think I would take those is I don't have those odds. This is the first year. I didn't make the playoffs. I don't even have those odds playoffs. You know what I'm coming back next year? I to defend my title. In the previous years like three two to three people have repeated as playoff contention. This like I told you this first year that four brand new people have made the playoffs. Amazing. So I I can't count out although I will be your next year. My my I fucked my draft up you had a great draft. I've fucked by draft up. You had a great draft. Barclays second. You you took a little bit of a flyer on saquon. But was really, but was it really? You know, I do that every year. Like, I feel like I draft a running back really really like high last year. It was. Fucking over the last year. Would you know about saquon this year, though, did you know, anything or you just wanted to take a flyer on rookie running back you? That's what you do. So you're sticking to it. Yeah. I knew he. Had done pretty will in the pre. I know you had a lot of hype coming out of college and he had done pretty decent in the preseason. And I was one of those guys who wasn't buying a have knows? Like, oh, say Klein, you know, he's not gonna do that good in the pros. He's not going to be anything. But then my second pick roles. He was still sitting on the board. So. Good on you, my friend. Where do you know what I don't even know you went to college? Go to Penn State Penn State. Yeah. I did know fucking. I don't pay attention to college football at all. I'm all about the college football, I stopped paying attention. When when Bobby retired? Now that was because as a Florida state famous pants long before. When Chris Winky's got drafted. That was the last. That'd be are less shining moment in the by the year. It was amazing. He was like twenty eight years old. I know it was it was about when he retired. I realized I didn't I don't live in Florida. I went to a totally different college. Why do I not root for my own college? I stop this nonsense, and it was all pros from then on out. So and that was the same time that Peyton Manning Gotch draft. It's like all right. I'm all in on the coal. If you like six five two and thirty pound quarterbacks laser lock it on. So that's where I would. And that that worked out pretty well for you. It did. I hated Tony Dungy fucking hated them. But worked out for me. Yeah. Yeah. We should we should have had like three Super Bowls. But Bill check is much better than Tony dungee. And that's all I have said. Yeah, I'm going to little Forrest Gump on that one cigarettes. All right. So give me we're we're gonna end this thing. And we've been kind of heavy Christmas. Give me three Christmas movies that you enjoyed this year top just three that you're like, all right? These were good. My three you say repayment. That's cool. Go for the three I watch every year. And I'm sure you haven't seen one of them. But I watch g-go all the waiver year. Aren't changing the way. Yeah. Watch sin by the name. Yeah. Sindbad's and that one is probably at the Knicks. Have you seen that one scene? That is is that that's a when they get the job in the strip. Yeah. Yeah. I love is going. And it was his back. His back out in the all, right? Good. Diehard now seen all wait. I've diehard never heard of that. It is a Christmas movie. I'm sorry. It really is. You made such good points today that that. They could have been yesterday..
