But i love glenn. Offense one quite athlete. Your favorite graphic is show you in calvin john. It's the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen. It's such a disrespect to a guy. That's a first ballot hall of famer. I you know the only thing that what nobody really wants to realize is the guy that selected the award winner was tim. Mcveigh my father kidding. But that's about as credible as it gets. I mean it doesn't matter moment time it's still talk about syrup bottle and people the tannehill. He hated the narrative of the Oh it used to be received like takes off and runs on a keeper and it's like a drinking game floor receiver. Am and he's like. That's not really how story you know went. And that's my favorite. I compare that to your calvin johnson. I love it. So what should have you had any moments in atlanta where Where you guys you and your family and your wife. You're out to dinner and say hey coach spiff maybe get you get recognized in atlanta right. Now you're getting bothered at all. Not you know executing about atlanta big time comics to play a game yet so let's not Button to to Brutal one was at a gas station. Lady asked me for tickets. That's our joke if it's kind of nice about here minutes. This is the heart of the sec country. So you had one of the sec jobs. You'd have a lot. Arte time in georgia so i told curry smart. I i've got a little bit easier than he. Does you walter around here. Gosh i tell you you know. I had I'll give you a abbreviated version of this. Peter and arthur so my first year as a head coach i. I don't know why. But one of the things i've always liked. You know just being such a fan of sports is and that'll be cool to be able to go to the sp's one day you know and so you get the sp's are out here in la. Peyton manning is hosting the sp's okay and so my fiance and i. We were traveling overseas so we like short nor trip to come back to go to the. Sp's early so you know it's just a lot of stress and anytime you start out stressing your fiancee on russian somewhere. This is bad on my part. Alright so it starts out. They had like decided. They're going to pave our roads so we're trying to get out to get going and they're like no. You can't go anywhere you know this. This road is blocked. I said it's not the hell out of my way. So chris shula coach. He was dropping me and veronica off down. You know it was that it wasn't at the staple center that i can't even is like. La live or something like that and so he drops off. We're running behind to try to get on the red carpet. Okay and so. Nobody knows how i am my first year all right so the first experience so he drops us off for like. Hey just drops off here. Cut across the road. Okay so he drops me and my fiancee. We're crossing the street makes you know. I hear this freaking siren buzzing up to me on a moped okay. It's this this cop that wants to be the hero okay. He gives me a jaywalking ticket. Right i got. Tmz local media like. Oh my gosh coach mcvay already getting in trouble. I'm like come on. Is this the time to really be a hero. So he gives a spoke jaywalking tickets. Okay so as a result of this you know we're coming and we're running a little bit behind and how come out. How oppressed is veronica with you at this moment. Are you still the man or what not impressed at all fit. She doesn't care about that stuff she's like. What are we doing right now. So jaywalking ca so we get jaywalking tickets all right. So that's that's not even the worst of it okay. So we're we're walking in and mike artists you know. Maybe we just go through to our seats. No they still want you to go to the red carpet and so we're walking up. Okay and chris long who the he's you know a rams ledge and everybody loves him. He sees me survey. Chris so he kind of like cuts in front and the guy. That's running the red carpet. He's like the hell this guy is and i'm not going to be like the new head coach of the ribs. You know and so they just totally crush us. And they're like a red carpets closed so we look like the biggest scrub we get away. I'm just walking head down. I said you know this espy. Experience is not what i envision but it was There's been a lot of humbling moments like that. It's it's yeah it was. It was bad. "Sean have you seen cliff. Try to steal any of your place before or vice versa has no word you ran the cooper kupp play that we scored on a touchdown against the vikings. I saw you run that the next year. But i certainly have copied some place from him as well. All the best coaches are the best thieves. So man i think there's all just reincarnations of the different things how we change in the math plan. Eleven on eleven. But i've seen him and he's seen me copies of each other stuff. That's for sure you know. It's funny because the book cliff onto this podcast. We got on tech's chain. And i do a good morning football show and i'm up at five. Am eastern you. Guys are both west coast guys. I sent a text out. I guess overnight at some point and at five fifty five am eastern which is to fifty five. Am pacific cliff. You responded and then sean about five minutes later. You responded which got me thinking. What are your daily routines. How early are you both up. And that just the life of a your mind is always going and going even in the middle of may or early june cliff. Give us your morning routine and kind of how your day goes yeah. I think for me and sounder pride hit on this to be as heavily involved in the offenses we want to be You gotta find time somewhere on as the head coach. Come seven eight. Am there's a lot of stuff. Come on your plate whether those early hours in office and just get on the film and take your notes and get your thoughts together offense early. That's what i use that time for. So i usually get in a workout in use that time to get prepared offense. And then i moved onto the team More team centric type thoughts. And then then you're in staff and meeting with players and going from that. I was actually just getting back in from war with wednesday's just finishing my night up. I was just started clipping. I both about that. No it's I'll tell you what we are. Both i know for me personally. I might be up early. But i'm in bed early to you. Know it's just like he said is is starting early. Get that quiet time. And for whatever reason. I've always just kind of been a an early riser. That's when i'm kind of the most efficient. That's when i feel that. I have the most mental clarity and only gets you get a chance to know that you're gonna have a couple of hours of quiet time before you know all the the other things that are not football related usually come creeping across your desk and But i'm but. I'm in bed pretty early unless unless i'm shutting it down that later the that's that's i can tell you that It's we might be up early. But i'm in bed early. For sure sean. You mentioned the the best coaches the best thieves. You guys ran a two point conversion in the playoff game. That i wanna say. The miami dolphins ran something similar. And you could say well that actually came from this and this is what does that entail. You guys are watching. Both you can answer. Because you're offensive coaches like. Are you watching all different. Thirty one other teams offensive that end to know that play from another team that they ran while you guys were playing on a sunday i just think technology enables you to be able to access a lot of information in an efficient way. And you got coaches that you can kind of assign for you know to to certain things in projects especially in those different situations whether it's the third downs of the tight red zone and that's exactly right. I did steal that play for miami. You know in actually shane. Waldron had had shown that to me who Hopefully he doesn't use it on us when he's in seattle what to get his voice year now but no it's It's one of those deals that there's a lot of really good coaches are a lot of great ideas in you know. College ball is the same thing. I remember clifford. I connect and last year during quarantine. And there's there's so many different good things to see you know whether it was going back to when he was at texas tech. I'd watch some of their stuff and You know you see whether it's the oklahoma's alabama what would coach sarkissian and those guys did. Both you know they got special players. But you just talk about you know. From a schematic really putting pressure on people with the different final formations and vertical. Pass game in ways of creating explosives. It was it was really impressive. Stuff what do you got. Yeah i think. I mean everybody's doing great stuff and i think there's that fine line. You gotta walk sean. They run play the week that i wish we could run. But it's just not what we major in the timing that he does You know the alignments the split. It's just different different game than than we play. And so you have to kind of pick your spots and and make sure you don't overall your entire offense and get away from what you're really good at When you're kind of chasing that a bit but there's a week out there's some sure sean has. There's certain things. I make. Sure i watch the nfl teams. I make sure. I watch and you just try to get as many ideas as you can. They make sure it fits. What you do you mentioned. Your sean mentioned your player now. I remember watching you in college. It was you. It was byron. Hands barred You had fun texas tech team. You guys would put up a lot of points and you end up with the new england patriots as a player. And you're in that quarterbacks room who were the other quarterbacks who are the coaches i mean. I feel like that oath. Three patriots team. There's going to be a thirty for thirty on just the offensive and defensive percolating through their who are some of the names that you've got to learn from law your what the third or fourth string quarterback. Yeah i was. I was four So tom damon hewitt rohan davey myself. Charlie weis was the. oc josh. Mcdaniels was working on the defensive side of the control And they like you said. Brian daboll was tied him coach. I mean there was a ton and as roma would come out and the players was incredible when you look at you know defensively willing to guinness ted Watch ted johnson Richard seymour owner. Smith's tyler i mean that whole crew and so just to watch the professionalism the way those guys words the way they carry themselves I remember that year we went to into and then once fifteen straight and it was just a group of guys that kind of fused to lose and what was bella check. And what's he like to you now. Yeah he was. I mean sean knows him. He's a completely different animal. When you're in that building and when you're away from that building but the attention to detail is legendary. Obviously the preparation. I mean weekend we got. You're gonna know every situation that could possibly arise them at some point of the season it does. I'll tell you what's amazing and cliff. And i've talked about this and i was actually chris. Shula one of our coaches had just gotten married This past weekend just got back from there..

"Welcome back Associated Book Review. PODCAST I am speaking. Today with Christina Ricci and the author of among us a thriller involving the the possibility of aliens. And the the government conspiracies and curmudgeonly neighbors. So let's go ahead and get back to the interview with Christina. Actually I even from the very first encountered you can tell they have this this great relationship. He's he's the crutched. Their different generations Their device lines of work but you know she knocks on his door and wakes up and he just makes her coffee like yeah. Yeah they can talk about these things and you know it. It's like she's she's pulling out in him when he needs and he's pushing pushing her where she needs to be there kind of helping each other and also kind of you know they. Don't they see I most of the time. But you know there's there's a little bit of tension there which is good onto and he's kind of her mentor character. I would call Him In the book so I like them together. Yeah you said that you are a fan of You know the alien type shows So what kind of research did you do for the book. So you know it's scary research but You know I really like it really is like it scared me. I took You know just information I would watch the show is obviously I knew I wanted to write a book about this at some point. This is kind of something that's been weighing on me forever just love. I love the idea that so I every time I would watch a show with little notes here and there on different documents they would. They would mention or different time periods or different places and I started to look into those For example the Free Information Act with that a lot of government documents were released into the public that had previously been Classified and So I I looked into some of that. That came out Project Blue Book. which you know this controversies around these documents? Are they real or they you know made up like how much of it is is true crew But my idea the idea behind it was really the look into information that was previously released by the government that was considered to be accurate right and then maybe pulled back for some reason like there was information in the media that was pulled back because it upset people so they know that wasn't a flying saucer. That was a weather balloon for example Rodwell But there are a lot of things that have gone on throughout the years like that where we used to be very transparent with information and then changed and now it's like we don't talk about anything anything so I've tried to look into those pieces and figure out what facts I was comfortable or what I thought might be facts. I was comfortable twisting into fiction and For the purpose of the story to help push the story forward and to just raise questions And I think I try. I did raise enough questions that I feel like You know if I did and I am I do. I would like to have a continuation of this story. I think it ended in a place where you could Where where I could explore some more because there was so much which like Kinda dropped in that was just little tidbits and I think I could pick up on pieces of those and go down those roads but there's a lot out there and You know whether you believe it or not or or it's true or not who knows I mean I have no idea but I think that's the exciting part of it. It's like what did what if this is true or What what could be and there's a lot of of obviously material for stories Yeah absolutely and I'm glad you mentioned that because at the again. I don't want to give it away any spoilers but it does end in a way that I was like I think there could be more here And I would love eh or the the ideas further. Yeah because it would definitely take it in a different direction Just the way the way it ends so. I'm hoping that the things things that happen in your book are not real. 'cause I was scared it was funny one of the research things I was doing. We have a little you you know looking at the ring doorbell but like we had Something ring the doorbell and I was doing the research and I'm looking on the camera and there's nothing there and I'm like of course it could be a bird. It could have been whatever who knows but I was thinking out and I'm like today no when I'm looking at someone watching my stocking my internet search and what's happened I like I like the scare myself and I think I read about things that scare me And so that like I Arabia things I need to deal with it. Fear Wise so yeah I'm with you. I hope it's none of it's true. I hope I can only imagine the paranoia. You're writing thing about about investigating researching certain types of activities and the government getting involved and I can just imagine the paranoia that could build up during that that process. It can get scary supper. Scher Finale You mentioned the Some autobiographical the elements in the book. Is there anything specific that you put yourself in there. Yeah so I think I mean I believe as an as an author authors have pieces of themselves and each of the characters because we're writing from frame of reference only. We have and as much research as we can do and people in our lives. We can pull from the emotions that every character feels. We've experienced so for sure that's there but specifically with Marcy I would say you know there is a lot her her in terms of you know. I have my day by day. Business person that I am and The person that I am you know to the world And then are you know. Obviously things I think about that are crazy. You know because I'm a writer and a lot of the stuff I write is dark And so that You know didactic personality pieces there for. I'm also a Gemini so that helps with that too. There's two of me but I do I you know. Obviously she live at the Jersey Shore. I do love to explore the universe and wonder about all the things she she wonders about I also wish the part that I wish was more me was her courage and her bravery take on such an adventure. I don't you know that I would do that missing. I'm afraid of I play out to my character so yeah I mean I want to be more like her and be able to say I'm going on this adventure and I'm GonNa see where takes me and I don't know that that's me Except to write about it so yeah and I think in every of the other characters. That's like when I'm angry when in Sad when I'm you know fearful like those parts of their personality that even the bad characters I try to put myself in. uh-huh their shoes and pieces of me inside. That came out in them. But I don't know that I would. You know the things they do are kinda horrendous. I don't think I could never do. Yeah I mean I sure I surely think there's a little bit of me in every one of them Thank you Are there this is not your first book. Are there any of your other and all of that. You would like to highlight at the time. Sure I mean I had the other stories briefly that I've written I have a choosing evil and breaking evil which are paranormal thrillers and they are also all my books are set at the Jersey Shore That those books are seems on identity and and evil and just what is evil. And how does that look flaking in mainstream today when the panel element I also have novella luring shadows which I did as an anthology. Or I'm sorry as a Multi Author Novella series so each book is a standalone. It's called the happy ending resort series but each Each book is different. But it's at this happy endings resort. which is a camp ground in South Carolina? That's kind of fun and cool if anyone's interested in reading About the same location but different authors writing in different genres And then I also have a short story in volatility and a short story in thirty shades of dead which is the sisters and climatology the one I wanNA highlight for right now with winter road which is a story about an which hopefully none of us can relate to but many people can About just in a relationship gone wrong and an ex that wants to be a part of The main characters life and kind of does so in a deadly way a cat-and-mouse game At Christmas which is coming up so When you wrote I wrote a few years ago however I just turned it into an audio book and audible is? Oh I'm sorry sorry. among us is also an audiobook and so I love the audio book Just the the way that plays out in audio form And and so I'm really excited about that and then now we're for winter road. Is Chris Shula. Who is a season to actor? He's done audio book for a long time and he actually worked with audible Quite quite often he was in We did an An education series. I didn't education series with Audible ACS University back in two thousand eighteen four were among us and he was the narrator that was in that series you know within that Video and so. He did a winter road for me so which I loved that because I love I love his style he did a perfect Thriller Holiday Thriller. I call it and that just came out October thirty first. So that's kind of my latest. Oh Nice Alabama book so wonderful. Let's take our second break the podcast now. And when we come back Cristina we'll be talking about sisters in crime which you mentioned at the beginning in her bio so stay tuned you're listening to the GMC Book Review Podcast. "Jim Steeg responsible for making the Super Bowl. What it is. I think more than any other person we could get. On the podcast, Jim Steeg. Welcome through heavy, my friend. It's good to be here. I'm glad you think. So highly to write that down somewhere. Yeah. Put out all the hose on on this podcast for you. Because the Super Bowl is the biggest one day sporting event. Maybe in the world, I think that's maybe not even subject argument the whole business of sports business of the world. At least this country seems to stop on Sunday. But it's much more than that. And we'll talk about that. I guess what I like to sort of take listeners inside and sort of deconstruct guests in terms of what got you to being at the league and running the Super Bowl. We'll get to that. But sort of take us up to that moment. I believe when you were hired by Pete Rozelle. You're like twenty nine years old. So give us a little bit of background, so many people listening to know how to get into sports and other people's paths. So tell us about yours. Well. I would undergrad at Miami of Ohio. Which thankfully, we have another Miami of Ohio one now, and and all this year this to McVeigh and certainly Chris Shula salt to now. Right. So it's I went there gun put up with science degree worked for years and accountant decided, you know, maybe I'll go to school and try to get JD MBA. And then I thought I don't know if I can put up with four years of that. So I went and got an MBA from Wake Forest and was fortunate enough to that was like the second year of the program. And so we had a lot of freedom and what we could do and develop an interest in sports. And so he did some independent studies around that. And then when it came back my second year Christmas my second year, my father challenged me. Well, okay, go get a job in sports. So I fired up. I know this is something foreign to everybody these days, I sent letters to every every sports for like, a think of except those New York. So since I. I was from Boston..

"They never put their hand in the dirt before who so much to velvet needs to be done. And there seems to be five offense of wine coaches will figure this out, and no one seems to be the fishing and just giving that guy Bogota cash. The other side of the ball because I don't want to just do a whole patch thing here I felt like with Goff. You know, I can understand the arguments against him. But there's some other stuff in there with him his athleticism. I still think that that throw where he rolls out to his right and hits Everett the tight end. There's there's moments with him where I think there's some physical abilities that I think really kind of up there with anybody. I'm not saying he's a top five quarterback or those things. But there are throws that he has that. I think are among the special guys in this league. And maybe took me longer than it should to figure out some of that stuff. But I I guess the more I watch him. Even doesn't have a great game. I know he wasn't great against out in need him to be great against Alice. Some of the games Reese lift up. I mean, look even breeze hasn't been great really in the second half. I just think there's more to him than maybe he's given credit nationally. It's one thing to have stats with McVeigh. But there's certain throws the he puts together. I'm like, man. That's that's like a special guy throw. Yeah. And even the run that the game stealing run against out. There was math lettuces and bam. I think we've swung too far in the wrong direction with golf. I mean, he did have the talent to be the first overall pick at one year under Jeff Fisher, Japan, wasn't even drawing up on up and schemes for him. He looked lost. He was I think he had very similar numbers like Andrew, Walter. I think is is rookie year as far as quarterbacks go. That's where he was rookie year. But I think we've too far into this system thing, and this sort of idea that Sean McVay is telling him everything to do show. Mcvay a great great play caller and his ability to put Gough cannot be over covered. I think but you have to remember he still does have a lot of natural talent. I totally agree with you. It is not I probably pick. There's there's probably double digit quarterbacks who could do what golf does in in that system. But it's not like everybody can do it. He still has a lot of natural ability. I think we we've somehow overlooked that even though we've written an underdog narrative about literal. The first overall pick two years ago. It's very strange thing. That's developed. Yeah. That's that's I think, you know, this thing with McVeigh, and you're making jokes about the Bud Light lime thing. But have you ever seen anything like this with McVeigh anything where it didn't? Like, you just if you'd had a timeshare with him at some point that you are obviously ready to coach in NFL team. Chris shula. Last night was their assistant linebackers coach was played end of Ohio with him. And then he was think they're roommates together. And I was looking at him. I don't know anything about again, he's defensive coach. But I think crystal just gonna be randomly mentioned as head coach next year because he's a young guy. Who's who's got the bloodlines? He knows Sean McVay. And I think it's a very odd thing that's developed again. I've never cooked Kingsbury thing was bridge. Too far. I can understand if you wanna go Zach your direction or the metal for direction, whatever there's better candidates out there, but to to hire clippings berry, and then literally in the press release that they he's friends with Sean McVeigh after everybody already joked about that. That was just outrageous. And I think it, you know, I it owners who aren't really adaptable. And they made the decision two months ago. We gotta get an often guy. I one friend who said the may joke, you know? Knows a lot about league. And he said, basically, all cheap Rams and said I want to I wanna play in this game. And then won the coaching market had developed, and they realize even though there were eight opening then almost all eight we're going to go to open coaches. They didn't realize that that the over saturation in the market..
