Carson Wentz, Quenton Nelson Both Trending Toward Being Available for Colts Week 1

"News is good from Colts camp. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reporting quarterback Carson Wentz. All Pro guard went Nelson are trending toward playing in the September 12th season opener, both recovering from foot surgeries. There's one main determining factor for when in his return. Notes more this is really about a pain management issue. And Carson here the high pain threshold and yesterday, walking around the entire practice. As I said, with no boots and hardly any limp, that was a good sign and reaffirmed to me more than once at this, you know they feel better about week one.

Drew Brees turns 42 years old later this week. It's possible. This is his last chance to secure a second Lombardi Trophy, but it won't acknowledge it feels any different. I have played the last four seasons in a row as if it was my last So as I sit here right now, my approach is very much the same Spare. Starting up in about five minutes at the Superdome. NFL mulls 16-team playoff scenario, sources say

"Tell you what. Let's just make that a playoff game instead. The nfl comp competition committee expects to present a resolution owners that includes a sixteen team playoff scenario. In the event games are lost because of the coronavirus. Pandemic league sources told the espn's. Chris mortensen the contingency plan which could become more likely as a bi weeks. Disappear would feature eight playoff teams from each conference so right now. We're doing what seven. Just put them all in then right. Just throw them on. So we're doing seven already and that is now that's gonna be the norm. The new normal. That's going to be seven on each side so we're already there one. Get one team that gets a bye on both sides. The nfc and afc so there we are. Now you're wanting to add another one so when we go back to adding the buys for the top two teams again. Is that what we would do at this point the contingency if necessary. Here's your answer would take four division champions and four wildcard teams from the afc and nfc. The plan would be one verse eight so no buys one verse eight to verse seven three six four verse five. Nfl team owners already approved the plan. In march to expand as we talked about the postseason to fourteen teams beginning this year that plane increase the number of wildcard teams per conference to three up from

Patriots sign QB Cam Newton to replace Tom Brady

"Cam noon has found a new home with none other than the New England patriots. While, this was a place that many people had suggested and thought about after his I think it was yeah. You least obviously after release. There was no. We figured if it was going to happen, it would have happened already, but I guess the pages take time. Do they do diligence? Make sure in fact that he was healthy 'cause he looks I mean some the work. Suppose he looks healthy, but you don't really now When Negga said there was no rush. It was like all right. He's a free agent. There's someone else assign. They can but if not, then we'll just be able to wait it out and I guess after once you saw how the dominoes kind of played out and says he didn't go to. The grisly inaugurnat the grizzlies while. That the chargers, the ninety plan the same town, so like that weird was say with with the chargers since he didn't sign there. was like honestly, where else was he? Never said that he wouldn't be better than some of the starting quarterbacks that are currently with their teams, but is when you look around and see. At look at the potential starting spot. That would be available this season. Every really want that many out there after again after his release, Efi begin the preseason beginning all season. MIROSLAVA different but. Time he got released. It was like there was only so many places he could go in. New England was one of them, though is one of those things where it was like you were just. Confused just because if you thought that he was gonNA, they were GonNa do it. You thought they would have done it already. But again took their time and he's still got the deal done. If. That was the guy that they wanted so. Cam noon again as I said reached a one year incentive, laden deal with new pages lead sources told ESPN ESPN Chris Mortensen Adam Schefter. Be Mixed with Jarret Stidham Brian Hoyer. To Rabih the I. Don't think necessarily be the heir-apparent only one year. So who knows you can be their past the season? But. Potentially these bridge the gap to the air pair. Of Tom Brady with with new, England.

Cam Gets Signed

Cam Gets Signed

"Well there was big news coming last night. Courtesy of our Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen former MVP cam. Newton is a free agent. No more instead Newton is heading to new. England to join forces with bill, Belichick and follow in the footsteps of another MVP Tom Brady. And Cam Newton's cryptic fashion. He had this to say the instagram. I'm excited because I know what right now all praise to God dropping contact tomorrow. I hope you're ready Hashtag. Let's go pat. And so now we know, and we'll start with Adam Schefter, and our health hall of Famer. Steve Young One one. Just tell us how we got here. How did this deal get done? Listen I think it took Cam Newton a little bit of time to recognize that there was not a thirty plus million dollar a year job on the market when you released two weeks into the free agent signing period not only that there's not an obvious starting job that's out there, and so the longer this went on, and the less he heard from teams, and there really was nobody that he heard from the more he recognized that he had to find the right spot. And if you're going to find the right spot, there's nothing wrong with taking new. England Riga tour with Bill Belichick and Josh mcdaniels, and the new quarterbacks coach Jed fish in an offense. That obviously is going. Going to be trying to replace Tom Brady where you're competing with the guy like Jarret, Stidham hasn't proven that he can play yet in the NFL and so cam. Newton goes to New England on a one year deal where he gets to reestablishes value show that he's healthy, and over the shoulder and foot injuries that he has been dealing with the last two years, and this is the the place that he now tries to relaunch his NFL career at the age of thirty one, which should be most quarterbacks, the prime of their career, no question and Adam. How likely is it that this is in effect? A one year auditioned for Cam to be with the Patriots beyond this season. Wendy what I would say is this if Cam Newton plays well, the Patriots obviously would be interested in resigning him, and if not, they have the ability to move on from him. It depends on how the year goes. It's difficult to forecast that right now. All we know is that the Patriots signed a former. Most Valuable Player who won that award in two thousand fifteen, who has tremendous ability who goes into this offense, and now we'll have to learn it, which is not going to be an easy task in a shortened off season for put as the ability to be dominant quarterback. If he can pick up that system if he plays that way, you would think that no one would not let him out. Out, the door, but again there's a whole year. They WANNA see Newton. They WANNA see them. They want to see a year goes to. It's truly to say that just yet well. Yeah, I mean a lot can happen in a year. We've all we've all seen that in Steve. How do you like the fit between cam? Newton and what he brings on the field and the New England patriots. When healthy. Rusted Cam Newton mean it's like. Manna from heaven right I mean in many ways I, think Josh, mcdaniel and Bill Belichick sitting around a lot of times. Saying. Could you imagine what we could do with this guy or that? Guys? They play these players. Run the League, and they see them in places where I'm sure they say because they're supreme of conference. Not Hubris just supreme confidence that if we could get a hold of him what we could do with him, and we can really expend on what you're seeing around the league. What we can do is special, and so I'm sure they're saying this about. If Cam comes in his foot is okay. Because we know the arm is all right, we should. We saw that early last year before. So. We know that he's healthy. If his what is good and he can move, you've got. Hungry. Sophisticated and the type caliber Blair in New England, where you have bill and Josh saying you can't imagine what we're GonNa, do with this kid and so I think that's I. think that's the conversation. That's happening right now. New England, Steve. Look it's anybody's guess at this point, but you. You have an opinion very qualified one. What do you believe the likelihood? Is that Cam Newton? Is the Patriots Starting Quarterback Week One? Again if healthy, if he can move around, I can't imagine them with his talent level, and what they think they can do them again. It becomes a you know it's a proof point for what they're out to show their out to show that we can do special things with special players, and so it's it becomes A. A right of passage to be in New England, and that we can take somebody, and we can show you amazing things that can be done and they've done that with flair after play after player so Cam Newton and healthy can move around. I. It's GonNa be, too. It's like a gravitational force when it's to special to be able to show what they can do with a great Cam Newton. Yeah,

"The giants what do you know about that yeah you know that's that's what Chris Chris Mortensen reported I think could be more in the in the choir all our I really and truly thought they did Jason what might retire become the cowboys tight end coach it seems like a perfect time to do it to get him to transition into coaching and I know that's what he wants there had long conversations with him I know that's in his future and it just seems like a great time to do it and then obviously didn't happen the cowboys hearted tight ends coach yeah they they have the giants former tight and the coach right and so if you can become a coach for the cowboys it's going to be in it as an assistant tight ends coach but I you know I'm not sure he sees this isn't the end of his career I think you might want to play another year and you know he and Jason care and have a great relationship so assigns a prize me at all if used up playing tight end for the giants for for one more years I'm surprised because back to the cowboys another year either but I honestly I I think the bigger odds maybe that is the better odds may be that he goes to the giants with Jason Garrett just consider in their relationship and finishes his career and there were dangle Jones and that would be something I think he would be really good for those young tight ends may have been in New York and and get them at a top level which the giants obviously feel like they they can be so I'd be a good move for the giants to to get him in an act I definitely could see that happening as soon as he feel like he has enough in the tank that he can still play and another year but you see it is almost a player coach role you know what exactly I don't he's not the same tight and he was even five years ago even three years ago you know you use not that guy you know you definitely lost some speed no the things but he makes up for all that experience there's no question about that and he is a player coach and I think there was some of that on the field but you may not have the player coach title but I definitely think that's why you bring it in if you pay in is to be that player coach on on the field that coach on the field and that you need and and more importantly in the weight room on the practice field in the in the meeting or to teach those guys how it's done he's just a great leader in so many ways and so yeah I think you're exactly right it would like to me it would be warned that player coach role in limit his snaps I thought the cowboys with women your maps well more than they did this year and I'm not so sure that Blake jar once you put that on the field more than he was at all it's probably time for the cowboys to give Blake jar one but bigger role and and if that means getting rid of Jason Witten to do that and then they may go that route but if you play Jason you know fifteen twenty snap the game and just have him again in the meeting room weight room all that leading your your tight end group in earlier off into groups they got some young players there but you leading that off into a group and teaching them how it's done I think that would be huge for the giants so is Serena Williams about the NFL and so then before I let you go let's look ahead to the Superbowl and to the match up and right now I know you haven't had a chance to sit and and dive into it yet but we know we've got forty Niners and chiefs and where would you be leaning in that match up wallpaper god looks like a great match up in a at the thank you bye and look for most forward to seeing is is that she saw fence again box forty Niners defense I think that's going to be a heck of a match up and these guys have two weeks to to get ready for game and it is I know that she's a plain fantastic but they got off to a couple slow start I just really like with the forty Niners have done they played as a team they can win anywhere you want to wear in and they're just doing what it do what it takes and they had one of those special seasons I think from start to finish it's just been really really special and they've grown in and I just like what they're doing like the way the plan like the fact that Kyle standing in that wants to make up for that loss that his Alkan's had when use often scored their lives in that big lead to the patriots and and so I just I I give the I would pick if you've had me pick today and I know it's going again so I saw that she opened up as an early favorite from one to one and a half but I'd I'd bet on the forty Niners at this point I I may change my mind in the next two weeks right now with what I saw what they did to the Packers to me was more impressive than what the cheese did that the taxes or the Titans I I will I won't hold you to the BET but a will you know you can change your mind but but that's yeah yeah you're going against the spread it is only a point a half or so but going against the spread I like it I Serena Williams appreciate the time we'll catch of the down the road thank you all right twelve forty time for an update with their sound.

"We know what happened we know the end result. Mack brown have gone for the two point conversion and the win against Clemson Francie I did not like that they went for too. make love in I would have gone for seat no Connor Hechtia during polling the theories of the of the lesser team you go for two they went for too I think it home you go for the tiny on the road you go for the win that's what I would have done I like that Mack brown did it but you know certainly exciting but if you have some momentum there and it felt like that Clemson was not better than you on Saturday and you're at home take your chances in overtime now you might say look at Clemson offense is just too good this is different than the NFL overtime and Clemson would probably be of a better team you know giving giving them the opportunity to score a touchdown as opposed to Hey you get the opportunity we get the opportunity. I would have gone to the tie and then taken my chances in overtime because I'm at home if that was at Clemson when I was down I didn't like the play to begin with because the biggest reason you're asking them what what a freshman quarterback there you're asking him to roll right against an extremely fast defense then in you've got a great defensive line I I I probably would run a draw play no that was that was my feeling is you know might have something that spread it spread out a little bit but you know or maybe a run pass option I just in in I guess it was a run pass option maybe because it maybe it wasn't because their rooms an offense of linemen look like he was right on the edge of the end zone but I I would have. I would have gone trying to spread out that Clemson defense they were just too fast and they they swarm them but I I it was exciting it was fun to watch that I watch a lot of college football there was a great football. I watched a U. S. C. against Washington Notre Dame against Virginia was interesting for a little while and then that Notre Dame front just dialed it up and it was amazing Washington State lost to Utah. here is Mike leach the Washington state head coach talking about his team after that loss well we're very softy we get a lot of good press we like to read a lot. we like Pat ourselves on the back and if we get any resistance we fold and what's amazing about this is most of these guys were on the same team last year that was a tough team last year's team was a tough team for us then we got nearly the same guys and then all of a sudden they're not tough they're fat dumb and happy in in titles. you want me to read like pros yeah other than that coach what did you think of your team's performance there. well a fat dumb and happy. entitled that didn't sound like a bad day your fat dumb and happy which were by the the most of those insults that dumb I happy when I received my guess satisfied with not playing that well I would say the dumb part might you know because I could lose some weight and I'm happy. fat and happy all right fat dumb and happy all right maybe have a little bit of problem with them I mention a Chris Mortensen with a tweet that the NFL I guess is looking into suspending bond has perfect looking into suspending him for the rest of the season a Warren Sapp tweets out kick voluntas perfect out forever here's another tweet don't mind saying it again Montez perfect the dirtiest player in NFL history firmly believe that he should be booted from the league. Chris Morrison he took Tom out of his visits would come on the show with us because he had been reporting reporting on the whole Danube Jones situation because Eli Manning was being benched in favor of Daniel Jones number one number two is just great to see Chris Mortensen back with us the Sabbatical going on battling cancer obviously dumb piestany winning that battle at this particular moment in time after being gone up until several months ago Egypt great what he does and always incredibly instant an exceptionally good to me and I love the guy love him dearly and so is really really good to see him back on his grind Sunday. NFL COUNTDOWN NFL live probably day doing some sports in a work as well as just really really great to see see him back in the grind and also take an opportunity. I had Edward on the show with us a couple of weeks ago. He was gone from ESPN for a little while. He's back back I don't even know him and Tom Jackson with Chris. Berman doing prompt Tom on ESPN plus APP and stuff like that laser the gentleman put it in perspective people like that help build espn into what it is today and and even though I've been around since two thousand and three I'm relatively new blood compared to those guys that that did it's not just about respecting your elders their contacts that incite their wisdom the information that they espouse and disseminate to millions upon millions of people there's a standard and to be quite honest with you there have been times in the history of ESPN where younger younger blood like myself and others did it live up to the standard that these guys set and so it's just great to see them because seeing them around doing what they do doesn't just remind you about what he has bien. Once was it reminds you about who we are who were supposed to be and so it's an honor to call them my colleagues and friends and watched him doing what they do. I blushed when Chris Mortensen brought up my man Tom Jackson. I love that man missed him when he was gone and incredibly ecstatic that he's back while I'm paying tribute to those who are here still with us. Let me give a slight tribute to those who are gone from us. Guys like the Gray John Saunders who passed away who was a mentor and a friend. The Great Great Stuart Scott was a mentor and a friend gone but never forgotten just felt the need to say that this particular moment the time just really really had to say that laser gentleman anyway. I talked about and started to show talking about Daniel Jones but but the quarterback story is really becoming very very compelling. One News just came down to Trevor Siemian out for the season the injury that he sustained on Monday night football last night to his ankle. He Ain't coming back from that this year. He's out. Sam. Donald is out indefinitely league would mono mononucleosis to be civic. You've got Cam Newton. Who's got foot injuries. He's questionable for Sunday's game. till it all those things going on along with big rothlisberger being out for the year. It was announced yesterday very very simple question. How come nobody's calling Colin Kaepernick trying to tell me the jets don't need college cabinet some do name Luke. Falk is starting for the New York jets Sunday then have a bad game last night so I'm not about to cast in the ASPERGER's. Nobody you kidding me. Kala cabinet can't get a call now. Call Mike Tomlin adroitly avoided the issue Kala Cabinet when asked by the media because he said I'm. I'm not talking about anybody. That's not on this roster. steelers are not interested in college cabinet from what I've been told New Orleans saints drew brees out for the next several weeks do his thumb injury haven't even return calls collar cabinets agent the New York jets. We don't know where their interest lies at some point in in town regardless of what we WANNA say how coller capital could elect to handle things in the aftermath of kneeling to things are undeniable. He broke no laws legally and be he violated no bylaws by the National Football. Hopefully we could add see that. The president himself said he would've Mossy and Colin Kaepernick play so there's no longer that some that to be concerned about the owners. So what's the problem. They said gentlemen. I'm not saying it. Colin Kaepernick should be granted a roster spot in automatically starting or backup quarterback quarterback. That's not what I'm claiming here. When I'm claiming ladies and gentlemen he don't deserve a tryout. I spoke against his lady Nestea. The APP say what you will about her very beautiful lady inside and out. It seems very very very nice to me class personified. She says he's waking up five. Am every day five days a week training the hours upon hours every day and he's been doing that for the last two years so if he gets the call he's immediately ready so she says took a knee addressing racial oppression racial equality battalion apart police officers. He did all of that again again. I might have issues with the execution day raft. I certainly have issues with the fact that so many people are speaking for him and he's not speaking enough for himself these days. I don't think he should be as quiet as he has been but I think the other side to this is. There's no justification for doing this to not. At this point my man Carlton in Tampa pointed out you know some of the things that took place ace that would lead to him not getting the job of gastro t shirt the stuff on twitter comparing him Ray Lewis Stephen shotted the owner for the Ravens in the former almost all play for the Ravens two Samuel Jackson Leonardo DiCaprio's characters and Django when pigs on socks and stuff like that you're always going to be counted against all true all that's true but I do think safe to say that the NFL has given people for far more egregious harmful acts you might have found what Colin Cabinet anybody associated with him did as distasteful from time to time. That's about at the worst you can say. Criminals have been allowed back in the national football league straight criminals. You can't get this Meta tryout. I was told by an official in the NFL Colin Cabinet Gig get a job throwing passes to Odell Beckham. Jr on twitter age has got a pound pavement. You gotta get himself. He's got to get himself into a football camp or to somebody's practice that brings me to the agent because see when I think about things and I got to tell you this for me personally. If the agent in is contacting teams and the agent is not getting his phone calls returned. We got a problem. His agents reportedly reached out several teams. There's no doubt about that. Your side did a desert that you get all of that but there's something wrong when the aging can't even get his phone calls return. I suspect some of the more elite elite or powerful agents in the national football league. We'll get your phone calls returned. I think Worth Consideration Association and also the other thing to point out is that there's millions upon millions of people that want to support colleague Captaining Threat of Colin Cabinet costing you money and influencing your bottom lining and negative fashion that argument no longer appears to be palpable. These are all things that I think needs to be thought about and need to be considered. It ain't say ESPN inundate seven to nine three seven seven six. Lewis you lava Stephen. They talked to me. How Connor Cabinet yes they communist crazy to even think about anybody else that has challenged to help us. Well I definitely I definitely think he should be given a look and I'll tell you something right now to meet the steelers have an opportunity to make the greatest argument because guess what when it comes to the Pittsburgh Burke steelers think about the Rooney rule who is it named after is named after Dan Rooney the form only for the Pittsburgh steelers who passed away in twenty seventeen. This is the mayor responsible for more minority head coaches more minorities in front office positions. You know mandating that at least a minority candidate get interviewed via the Rooney rule now there needs to be modifications to that and it needs to be improvements in that no question about it but the man's heart was in the right place and he was a trailblazer in in that regard and I think the steelers continue in that mode by bringing somebody like Collor Cabinet on board. That's my personal opinion but the jets now that Trevor Simian China's out and and and you don't have any idea when Sam Donald is expected to be back what would be wrong would bringing Colin Kaepernick on for trial colleague. Cabinet camnews got a foot injury and we don't know how good that show is either. What's wrong with campion. Coming in for a trial with the panthers was wrong with the saints coming in for trial when we don't know how long drew brees is going to be gone. All of these. Things are things that I I think. I think that that should be broached. Yeah somebody anybody I got you. Appreciate the call. Eighty eight say espn an in an eight seven to nine three seven seven six look. There are those who believe I have plays text me this morning saying that the moment Colin Cabinet happened in Evergreen settled their grievance alright with the National Football League and Colin capping. It wasn't specific about what the settlement entailed They thought thought he would never be in the league again. I don't know why they thought that other than him being black ball but that was what I was told nevertheless what cannot be denied what cannot be disputed. "ESPN radio ESPN news of anybody with no more it would be you what exactly have the players been saying to. Pat Pat Shurmur to Dave gettleman about Daniel Jones and his need to be in a lot of because we know throughout history. Sometimes approaches forced to make these decisions because you have personnel on your roster. That's clamoring for guy because they believe he's got the goods. Is that what transpired here as taste that I think I think it's a Aronie has jumped with all due respect to to suggest that players would go due to the head coach or general manager and say we gotta get Daniel Jones in there okay. We'll say this they certainly sense the excitement from players and from coaches coaches and the front office with what they have seen from Daniel Jones but you know I've had no indication in talking to people there that this is something that the players saying the danger when their kids get Daniel there. No I think it's I I really think Daniels earned this on his own merits and the combination at the fact that this this James his team is not very good and I think I have read and heard people say you know let's not waste Saquon Barclays. good years you know like like. Detroit did was Barry Sanders. There may be some level truth to that but right now the giants problems not Eli Manning giants problem is that defense and having really a better group of received I clearly I appreciate. I appreciate it because I clearly wasn't trying to suggest that the players actually did that. I was asking because I said if anybody would. I know whether that had occurred it would be you. I'm talking to Chris. Mortensen right here was leaving the ESPN radio ESPN news. That's all I was asking so having said that. Where does that leave leave ally manning now. Is he the guy that's GonNa wait to get back in the goddess. GonNa Clary a clipboard and be an extension of the coach or could it be possible that he he'd be looking to be moved to be traded because he believes that he still has a few years left in his career. I haven't had that conversation with not lie but mice. Here's what I believe about ally is that you know he and his wife Abby four children. They're all under eight years old. They really love where where they live there. In New Jersey there establishing school he loves me in the New York giants and at the same time you know he saw his yes yes peyton because of injury ended up playing and resurrecting his career despite incredible obstacles physically in Denver. I don't they're not the same guys but one thing you have to remember is that Payton in his last year was hurt in Denver and who came in Brock osweiler replace them and their intent there was also why there was going to finish that year as a starter and pay would finish on the bench but by you know rehabbing and holding the clipboard and being in that quarterback meeting room and making sure they were ready to play in holding other players around them accountable making sure they were doing the right thing. What happened you. You know the answer to it. They went back to Peyton near the end of that season and they ended up winning the Super Bowl even if he wasn't the sensational pain. I think that he wants to remain a giant yeah. I think that I know a no trade clause. It doesn't make sense right now other teams they're situations matchup and and and you have a salary cap situation where some of these teams like the Jaguars Nick foles and drew brees and saints those quarterbacks coming back and making a Lotta money. Forgive me if this is a silly question but the giants make this move move with the idea that there you Jones are starting quarterback from here on out or did they make this move to say okay. Let's see what they let see what he's got and and we always have to fall back to they made the move danger. Joneses are starting quarterback and we're going forward and and and that's really with with this is there's nothing is nothing more than that and I didn't even pass your said what he said yesterday at the press conference. You knew then that you don't say that unless you're moving too dangerous. Joe I think they've determined that they're not a playoff team last question for you. John was on the record of a few months ago saying that he had hoped to not see Danny Jones this season at all because that would mean ally manny was having a great season and that's what he was anticipating not to see Dan Hugh Jones at all is Disa- Pat Shurmur a Pat Shurmur and Dave gettleman decision or it seems obvious that they were talked to ownership about this simply simply because it's manning. Is that fair. I think you're you're right on all marks. I mean listen. I like I said the best hope for the franchise. I think John I'm Mary was saying when he said it was. We hope we're in contention that we don't have to go to Dana. Jones would've Dave gettleman say at the combine before the draft when it was clear that they were going to draft a quarterback and he said I prefer the Kansas City model meaning Patrick Mahomes you sit all year behind Alex Smith and then you take take over the job I it so that to me was always there intent but this roster was not good enough to carry that out. Chris Mortensen appreciate a great work as always always buddy. Thanks so much for calling me man really love your dot. He later he would love you to the one and only Chris Mortensen right here with Steven. One of the great wants to have ever do be an inside the NFL in.

"NFL insider extraordinaire will be on with us to talk about some late breaking news developing out of New York City and of course obviously pour femme bomb the mouth of the South Football Aficionado college and pros as far as I'm concerned he will be on blessed thus with his presence at the top of hour number two of to show of today's show so I am definitely looking forward to that. We all know it's time to go. We all know it's time to talk about the New York. Giants have finally this sudden to get their acts together. It has been announced that Dan you Jones quarterback out of Duke the number six overall pick and this past April's. NFL draft is the starting quarterback for the New York. The giants ally Manning two hundred and thirty two career starts since two thousand and four NFL wreck hit. It has come to an end. It's not consecutive starts because Bob Mac do the Chubby Pat Riley WanNa Oughta be who decided to bench Eli Manning a couple of years ago ended up losing his job along with the GM. That's not going to be the case Pat Shurmur. Here's the situation Dan you Jones has been named a starter for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay buccaneers since two thousand thousand seventeen Eli manning third worst. QBR fifth fewest yards per attempt minimum five hundred pass attempts. Eli Manning is not what he used to be. I know there's a lot of people that might question this. I have no problem with this move by Dave Gettleman by Pat Shurmur by by John Mara by Mr Tests by the giants organization. It is absolutely positively the right move to make and here's a couple of reasons a few reasons as to why why that is New York giants on on the New York giants have looked absolutely putrid offensively even worse defensively by the way ranked ranked thirtieth in the National Football League in points allowed ranked twenty eighth in yards allowed thirtieth in yards allowed all over your overall in passing yards allowed. I'm sorry eighteenth against the run the only thing decent about them. They're rushing attack because Saquon Barkley is clearly the the best running back in football talent watch their sixteen yards accumulated off pensively but twenty six yards and points that they've scored because they've only scored seventeen against Dallas. Only fourteen against the buffalo bills both losses own to got a game against Tampa then a home game against Washington and Minnesota then a game add New England on October Ted The New York giants stink. They are not a good team. They've got saquon Barkley and literally nothing else to Brag about but in Dan you jolt he provides hope this organization needs it and New York giants fans does serve it. Let me be very clear. The New York giants Mr Playoffs six times in the last seven years over the last two years that they've missed the post season. Their Record is eight and twenty four meanwhile he Lamelo is about thirty eight years of age. He's clearly not what he used to be. Even now this year nearly sixty percent of his passes completed in a two games two touchdowns. He's got a QB off thirty. Come on Y'all he can't run. He can't scramble out of the pocket. He goes down at the site of a rush. I'm not disrespecting Eli Manning. I genuinely like him respect. Ah Damn sure appreciate those two super bowl championships but when you missed the playoffs six times seven years what the hell are you need. You need a psychic to tell you what the Hellas forthcoming. I mean enough's enough and Jones last time we saw him. I'm not talking about the two minutes at the end of the regular season game against the Dallas cowboys. It's open season a final two minutes when a game was well out of hand and it was just garbage top. I'll talk about the last time we saw Daniel. Jones was where there you Jones showed up against against a first team of of the Cincinnati Bengals in a preseason game completed like nine of eleven pass four hundred forty one yards. Daniel cajones both throughout the preseason there you Jones was picking up the office throughout the preseason Dan you Jones is the big target he's young. He's got got a little bit of wheels on him. He can throw the damn football. Do I think he was the way Haskins who do of to fifty thousand once in Ohio state and it took Dan you don't three seasons to throw fifty two touchdown passes at Duke no but it is at a level of competition he was playing with not. I just get says something so I'm looking at Danny Jones and I'm saying excuse me he brings hope he brings hope and with the hope that he brings to the equation based on giant squad clearly going nowhere with Eli Manning. How many how many times do you expect saquon Barkley to get out the on the field and other to get on the field for the New York giants with absolutely positively no hope whatsoever making anything happen why do that to the team. Why do that especially with your offense law looking better than looking years why not take a chains you got nothing to lose and if he looks like garbage and he struggled so what Peyton manning struggled as a rookie every roger struggled as a rookie quarterback? NBA History had to take their love as rookies. There's no harm in Dan you Jones taking those links as long as they're not literal literal because the offensive line is not protecting if he's got his toe interceptors. It'd be gotTa make mistakes if he's got to figure out. NFL deep into Central Center so be it Kudos props to the New York giants for having the courage to finally make this damn oath. Here's give a New York finance a sub par product enough enough enough saquon. Barkley average is seven point eight yards carrier seven point eight yards carrying this is what team stacking the Line of Scrimmage Mitch knowing that the giants offense poses absolutely no threat whatsoever with this past the game. What is the problem. What what do you expect. SAQUON. Barkley is a special brother man. I do and I will say this see. Here's where it's bad. If give you the New York giants it really highlights how you should never gave away way. Odell Beckham Junior. It really really does because for the third game of the season for you to be willing to make the switch clearly lilly. Eli Is an issue. We think he's got to three more years now. Holding a Clipboard and coaching Dan you Joensuu route sure but to be out on that field come on now and by the way I wouldn't be surprised if aligning ended up getting traded to someplace Jacksonville I. I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Coughlin tried to bring their and why not Blake Bortles is GonNa Nick. Foles is out for at least ten weeks. You got a defense that could potentially be super. Bowl caliber your frustrating the hell out of jalen Ramsey and everybody else because they know your offense stinks and even though he li- manning doesn't work work in New York any logger. I don't think he will work at Jacksonville either personally but he certainly would probably be a better upgrade in a rookie rookie mentor that you got whatever the hell is. Dave is. I'm just saying it eight say. ESPN edited seven to nine three seven seven six. You're listening hosting live to Steven A. ESPN radio ESPN news any minute now. We'll have the great one Chris more incentive on the line with us to highlight some of the particulars involving the New York giants decision to put Dan. You Jones into the lineup as starting quarterback for week three against the Tampa. They bucket has actually. I think that's very very appropriate. Jameis Winston hasn't looked at impressive. Why not go with it but anyway we promise Christopherson is on the line with US right. Now what's going on Sir. How's everything well. I can tell you're having a better day than yesterday. Yes I am. I am and let me get concerned concerned about you. Sometimes see that I'm having a very bad day. Let me tell you something right now. I'll give you a virtual healthcare because leave it to my man. Chris Mortensen the lookout for me and it gives me some semblance of good news for crying out loud listen. Daniel Jones is the starting quarterback. How did it come to be in week three of the season Chris well. I think number one is that day new Joensuu showed and you can say proved in close because it was only not as an N. T. and training camp and preseason he showed Pat Shurmur the coach that he is ready to be a starting quarterback in the the. NFL and Shurmur has said that frequently. I also think that the giants position was you know basically as long as we're in contention. Chen or a contender you is going to be a starter allies not getting best because of his play in the first two weeks of the season. He's getting best because that defense and that team is not a playoff contender and so therefore. I think that Shurmur feels like you know. Let's get on with the business of Daniel Jones. you know. I'm not sure it's it's the greatest time to put Daniel in there but he feels he's mentally tough and listen to the B- believe it or not the buccaneers defense with Todd Bowles is pretty good but you know you're talking about a team that just played a game without top to receiver Sterling Shepherd Reddit Concussion Golden Tate who still on suspension cody latimer got hurt and and and the defense it gives a points like crazy so I think it's just hey listen. I'm not sure it's a great time to to Danny Jones in there but I but you know just talk if I'm talking to Shurmur and you know during the training camp and also talking to David cut cliff ironically ironically what you I manage offense coordinator or head coach at Ole Miss and Dana Jones head coach at Duke feels like he's very mature and able to you would stand up times in tough times are ahead. What more I gotta ask you this though I hear what you're saying about ally manning but you see the numbers since twenty seventeen third worst. QBR fifth fewest yards watch poor attempt. I mean the man can't scrubbing. He goes down at the site of a rush for crying out loud. He's clearly not what it used to be. In the giants have missed the playoffs six times uh-huh in the last several years. I understand what you're saying about. The first two games this season and that definitely can't be disputed but there is no doubt that there's been a dissipated level of skill exhibiton by ally manning and that people have been clamoring for change for a long time. Why isn't it just cooler. Say you know what it's time to move in a different direction the Eli Ah Manning era the country in New York well. I mean listen I I've heard those voices and I think that you have numbers and maybe your eyes the support that by the way self survival by quarterbacks is been adopted by many veteran quarterbacks along the way and you can't tell Carson Wentz not to be slapped going on head first or whatever when you when we're we're Peyton Manning Tom. Brady are smart enough to get down and not get hit. Then Jones does bring a certain level athleticism a man I had somebody told me watching them in training camp. I it's kind of like Washington. Josh Allen Buffalo play you. Didn't you don't realize how athletic is until you see it in person but let's go back look at the last eight or nine drafts and personnel decisions by the giants and if we forget this is a team game and if if you're if if your team if you're not if you're getting hit if you're receivers are in the right spot at the right time and I still believe that there's a there's a lot of aspects here. I think you I went to the season in the best shape of his life is almost live. I went to the Mannequin Trevor Lawrence and just in her all these young shot quarterbacks. He lie out threw. 'em All but it is a game played amongst team and I personally think that it's been a bad team. I think they've done a bad job and personnel for a while. Wow and we're seeing we're seeing the fruits and really the rotten fruits of what they did or didn't do in the last seven or eight years through the draft. Chris Mortensen right here Stephen A..

Chargers, Melvin Gordon And Ten Million Dollars discussed on SportsCenter AllNight

"Time Joseon adders are reporting the agent for Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has requested a trade because charges are not backing off their offer of ten million per season which represents a roughly twice the salary schedule to make in the final year of his rookie deal they remain at a record you know not wanting to report because he feels like he's valuation is higher than ten million when you have to put that in the context knowing that Todd Gurley right now is what at fourteen point three lay beyond del thirteen one David Johnson at thirteen million my understanding is that the comp that in being out there right now is that David Johnson and Melvin Gordon are similar in terms of how they should be paid and they are definitely still at a gap between those numbers and so right now he's going to stay out until the situation gets resolved nice of Gordon toll charges that if he does not receive a new deal that's acceptable obviously he'll sit out demanded trade he's followed through on both threats Louis Riddick Damien woody Chris Mortensen with insight on how this plays out in if Gordon has any leverage in this hold out he doesn't have the leverage because the charges obviously feels so his replacements is number two or number three players like Austin Meckler Justin Jackson will give them enough of a of a level of production a percentage of production may not equal what number will give them enough to where they have enough other weapons on the field to make up the difference and they're just going to go with the you know one year at a time type of philosophy and if he doesn't like it then they're gonna trade I think he's out on the football team before the regular season starts and hopefully he can find that one suitor who not only is willing to pay a high price to get him but is also willing to pay him long term which is what he's after after lands a former running back and running back coach and the one thing I know by if the land he's very confident that he can find another running back you mention it already the fact that Philip rivers in the last year for the of Joey Bosa is coming up they have players in the pipeline so to think that Melvin Gordon's going to get you know the levy on bail early heard Todd Gurley absolute because are guaranteed a lot of people looking to toggle the contract and is like wool we don't want any part of that so okay Melvin Gordon is in a situation where he's not gonna get paid by the Los Angeles Chargers and more likely he's going to be sued no with another team actually ten million dollars is the charges off and that's kind of where the value him and they do have other contracts to get done and they're not a cash rich team we've established that for different reasons that without getting into details Melvin Gordon's only played one full season out of a source for any is a good back is he an elite back you can argue one way or the other but the bottom line is the charges are going to get permission for Bilbo is represented to go get a trade they want to control the situation he's not levy on bills he has a contract levy on bill did not have a contract last year so it's not a similar situation ten million dollars is the charges off and that's kind of where the value him and they do have other contracts to get done and they're not a cash rich team we've established that for different reasons that without getting into details but Melvin Gordon's only played one full season of the source for any is a good back is he in the league back you can argue one way or the other but the bottom line is the charges are going to get permission for Bilbo is represented to go get a trade they want to control the situation he's not levy on bills he has a contract levy on bill did not have a contract last year so it's not a similar situation ultimately I think the charges feeling and we talked about this yesterday and make your Damian Moore and and the lens perspective is they do fill like if necessary if gore insanity assigned eventually then you can put them on the market as a team it is the one with the agent do the shopping Eric Williams covers the Chargers for ESPN provided this take on why the charger should find a resolution with Gordon if they have aspirations to make a run in the playoffs he was on Spain and company yeah I mean it's basically a stand off at this point you know Gordon wants to be paid amongst the highest running backs normally he thinks his his statistics over the last couple years point to that he should be pay you know like David Johnson girly let me del the Chargers obviously disagree on that date they are pricey them again according to reports and and I believe they're accurate about ten million per year you mean another structure the contract how much of that is guaranteed how much that is fully guaranteed when he would receive that type of money so those are things that are going on in terms of negotiations to try to get Melvin in the camp I did the things that are promising if both sides want to get a deal done Melvin Gordon wants to play for the charge the Chargers want Melvin Gordon the place so you would think at some point there there would be a compromise that could be made to get Mel in the camp because he remains to be seen you know Melvins representation that told the Chargers that you know that they would demand a trade at the contract demands aren't aren't made the charges are willing to trade him they basically haven't control for the next two to three years due to make five point six million in the following years rookie deal and they get franchise in another couple years no but it is important in terms of where the charge you want to go in the post season they can win games without knowing the crew that last year they want **** when no one was injured the issue is is can they want simple without melon and I think the answer probably is no and so I think that does give me a little bit of leverage yeah well he might want to look Gordon at levy on bell scenario the now jets running back doesn't second guess himself for sitting out last season a decision that cost them fourteen million in salary he did say you wish you could have told fantasy owners some type of way to not draft him or pick him never made it on the field

"Questions simply ruled on by donlevatar. Here's a texture. Why do you poop on us? Dan, any little bit of success to local team of ours has and you poop on us. I wonder where you like this with your parents when you went on vacation as a kid just nitpicking every little flaw DisneyWorld. Stugatz. Actually, my mom loves to tell the story. I was on. It's a small world, which is obviously magical and great. And all I was saying to my mom is what's next? What's next? I was thirty eight years old these live at our show with this two guys on ESPN radio. So Seth curry was in the corner last night when that shot goes up from Lillard and Seth curry wasn't doing anything on the play was wandering around. It's what any of us could have done on the play just wander. Around. Nothing's coming to you just stand in the left corner. And make sure that you're just on the court and everything about you legal. That's all you gotta do. And as soon as the shot goes up. He turns right in front of the o'casey bench and stead of celebrating the shot going in. He just stares at the bench as behind him Damian Lillard literally waves by by two okay sees season. But you have to you have to watch the left hand corner. And what it is that Seth curry is doing there where he is just staring at okay, see the moment their season it and all of it was just cold and stand as you're watching all of that take place Charles Barkley sitting here telling you he thinks Portland's going to win the west. He's one of the few people saying that your one of the few people saying Golden State's not gonna win the west. So what is it here? Here with Portland because I believe it's prisoner of the moment. It's nice that Lillard made the shots in this series against an okay see team where Paul George is hurt and they weren't right in the last six weeks of the season. But this is about to get a whole lot harder. There's no question. And I think whoever wins this Golden State Houston series, assuming Huston gets passed Utah. I think the winner of that series will will win the west. But I think Portland in either Denver San Antonio will be a great matchup in second round. I think it'll be a compelling series to watch. And certainly more people watch it after what Lillard did in this first series. Just watching the video again, south Gary. You're right. It is so great just turning around. Like, what are you gonna do standard time for some of this stuff? But what are you guys list is some of the coolest endings that you have seen in sports in terms of just the reaction? I'm not talking about like this was a great way to win. I'm talking about when you see one of these athletes reach for their moment, meet their moment, and then embrace it with arrogance that you don't even object to because you're right there with them saying. Yeah, that was bad ass. A moment that sticks out for me. Now he had greater moments. But when Mike. Jordan hit a shot over Craig Hilo to beat the Cavaliers in the playoffs and jumped as highs they've ever seen to jump in celebration that with that was joy that was that was a cold-blooded shot who saw relief and joy, I'm talking about just staring down an opponent and just giving them ice Pudge when he held onto the ball in the division series again. JT snow. The garner took my moment. That was my moment. That's my best fan moment. Ever by the way as just a fan. I mean, two thousand three I mean that was my moment right there that I'll always remember as a fan Pudge to hold in that ball up basketball. I don't care as a fan. I'm saying that was my moment right there. Man. No, Reggie Miller. Wow. Stand-in gundy. Shocking. Leap pro steroids..

He said this is just something we had to go through. And I mean, just in- incredibly different than what we see from almost all of the other great players. Stan Lillard is the story today. No question that game though. At don't ask why was up watching that game. But I was watching that game to have the blazers. I mean, just go on an incredible run. And then Oklahoma City comes back. Back and they get themselves. I think a double digit lead Paul George played fantastic. Well, westbrook. We're going to go back to having the same conversation Westbrook. He did the thing last night that made Durant leave. He did. Although he hit a huge three down the stretch there after Lillard came down and hit a three. So it was just a great game. It was a bag of fourth game. And a great game with maybe wanna best finishes we've ever seen it this stand standing Gandhi. And with us whole show today. This is how people become stars because you rarely have that moment wants to end another team season. He's now done it twice. Right. He's done it twice. Now where it's a buzzer beater that finishes the opposing team's season. And this is an interesting stat since Westbrook told Lillard telled Lillard that he quote, I've been busting that asks for years that was January twenty second since then that's Westbrook saying it's a Lillard January twenty second I've been busting that ask for years. Damian Lillard has scored thirty one fifty thirty twenty nine twenty four and on westbound and last night at the end, they just took Westbrook off of them and said Paul please handle that. Because westbrook. Can't you know? It was funny stand up certain you saw this Paul George realizes that he's not defending Lillard far enough out at so he takes an extra step out at it still wasn't far enough because Lillard just took another just that bag. It was it was just incredible. And that's an incredible stats. Paul George was defending his defense. They're saying it was a bad shot. And then we have that sound right here on one second. I mean, that's a bash. With anybody says dash. Okay. He made it that story won't be told. It was a bash. Live with what he's he's. Right. I mean, look I mean, you're not going to stop thirty seven foot jump shots. I mean, this idea that even a great defender Paul George can take away everything from player like Damian Lillard is not realistic. Paul George played that fine. I mean, if the shot to beat you has to be that shot over Paul George who got a decent contest on it from thirty seven feet. Look. I mean, give the guy do and head home doklam city and get ready for next year. Paul George has nothing to be ashamed of on that last play and go into Dan's point. They really haven't had Westbrook on Lillard for much of the series. I mean as soon as Schreuder comes into the game Schreuder and Paul George guard McCullum and Lillard, and they find somewhere to hide Russell Westbrook. So. Russell does a lot more talking than Damian and Damian's gotten a lot more done. So that's sort of how that series went. You mentioned Schreuder and Damian Lillard mentioned him when he was being asked why he waved? This was an assassin streak like everything that Lillard did after this game was perfect including the sound the series is over and I'll just waving goodbye on. And after game three, you know, they Dennis Schroder was out there point to his wrist. They was out there doing all these celebrations and doing all this stuff, and we kept our composure and after one win now is what they decide to do. And we was just like, okay. Well, we wanna do is win four games when we win. Those four games is not going to be nothing to talk about. So that's what that was Paul George van something though. He did he did he went to guts a bad shot..

"As the hockey playoffs have been totally insane. And only a thousand times better than the basketball playoffs as the basketball playoffs. Give us very little in terms of drama and enthusiasm that doesn't somehow involve Jared Dudley last night. Finally, we got a moment to moment where Damian Lillard ends Russell Westbrook. And Jim in a way that's going to echo because you rarely see the finish to a game that that one was. So let's start here for those of you are just joining us in weren't up for the late game San van Gundy's in with us, and that was an assassin streak, and I also agree with Paul George that it was a bad shot and everything that STAN Van Gundy hates about today's basketball. Even as Lillard has been good on that shot. This postseason think Rachel Nickell said eight of twelve on that shot while everyone in the play. Offs has been terrible the shot went in right? Yes. Yeah. So good shot. It didn't. And it didn't luck its way. And that was nothing but net I mean. For damian. Listen, how good a shot is is relative to the person shooting it. I mean, we've said this for years with the Golden State Warriors and Steph curry in particular the shots. He takes a lot of them are bad shots for everybody else. But that doesn't mean they're a bad shot. I mean, the shot Lillard took is not a bad shot for him. I'm not saying it's a real high percentage shot, but it's certainly not a bad shot for Damian Lillard, a buzzer beater that wins the series that gets them to fifty points. Does it at home and the best part of the shot was right after the shot when he weighed goodbye to the entire. I'm not even sure that was the best part of the reaction a picture. They took of him in the middle of the thing is going to become a mean, it's going to become a gift where everyone else's joyous. And he's like, that's right. I'm Damian Lillard. I just did that I just stepped Russell Westbrook over my knee. Paul George could take him with you. Like that. That was that the best thing, Dan is that Damian Lillard, you know, he went the whole series and even at the end it was pretty appre understated reaction. I mean, this is not a guy that does the does much talking. He's not a guy that promotes himself. And if you listen to what his teammates say about him long before this series. It's incredible. And Terry Stotts said he's the best star leader in the league the way he is with his teammates, and coaches and everybody else, and I really enjoyed it. Because this guy is the tip. Asus of what we see with with a lot of the stars. Now. I mean, they get swept two years in a row..

Russell Wilson gives deadline for Seahawks deal

"News from the world of football word out of Seattle. That Russell Wilson has given the Seahawks a deadline for a new deal. He's giving the Seahawks until April fifteenth. Although sources telling our Adam Schefter talks between the two sides are really not thought to be too far along ESPN insider, Chris Mortensen with our sage Steele. You do the math. Exactly thirteen days to meet. Russell Wilson's deadline. What are the chances that this thing gets done by his deadline chances are slim and could complicate some things, but remember April fifteenth started the offseason program phase threes OTA's, that's when you get on the field and start working. So listen deadlines make things happen and made his last contract that he's four years. Eighty seven million dollars in two thousand fifteen happened. Gatien counts twenty five million dollars against their cat. They'll have twenty million twelve million dollars cap space. So they'll have to get creative. And I think it'll take some time I would expect it gets done by the start of training camp or or certainly during that period there if it gets done by April fifteenth, and they're miracle workers. And the thing about is thinking about Aaron Rodgers contract ninety eight point seven million guaranteed and thirty three point five average. So I think Russell Wilson we will be shooting north of that regardless of what Rogers regardless of a deck Prescott gets when the Cowboys one hundred million dollar type of contract. You don't see going tracking on and mean, Russell Wilson. It's not going to hold out not play this season. I do not. Mentioned April fifteenth first day of the Seahawks off season

"Go play it. Play a new no you got the the wild card in your hand, not the plus four. Let's remember you've savage players. You can only play the plus four. If you don't have any other play that works, but you got the regular one you play whenever you want because you got the leverage one time in the car game. He got the leverage. Once he signs a deal with the team. That team walks away whenever they want. He loses all of this lever. This is the one time for a person that is probably cemented himself at or near the top of the draft. Definitely Chris Mortensen was on golick and wingo this morning, and he said why yesterday's measurements? Sealed. The combine experience Murray has nothing else to do check this out now when he stepped on the scales away to seven I knew mmediately he was not doing drills or running at this combine because what do you think he's gonna way when he runs it pro day or does the drills approach? It's not going to be two seven. Nope. See such a smart point. Kyla Murray's playing the game. And he's playing the right way. He's playing chess everybody else's playing checkers, and he's making sure through leverage he controls his own destiny. I mean, that's what I love about this thinking about it like the NFL's like a frat party. Okay. And you are fighting to get your invite to the frat party. You really wanna go? You wanna pledge to be a part of this fraternity? He called the NFL. So in the beginning, you're like, oh my God. And this is the craziest part about it. You will climb over everything you will work your butt off. You'll do anything that's asked just to get an invite to the party, right? Then you go to the party. And once you're at the party, you do every single thing that they ask you to do. And you do it without question. You run a forty yard dash, even if you're a fat guy that's never going to have to run forty yards again in your entire career. You run a three cone drill which actually has four cones involved. And you don't ask anybody. Why you sit through an interview I sat through an interview this morning hanging out with the goal of wingo. Guys. I was asked great questions. I you know, what animal would you be? Right. You sit through the interview and your asked these the dish weird questions, but you take it because you want to be in this frat so much that you're willing to do whatever they want. It's hazing. It's the NFL version of hazing. All right. And then once you're in once you're in the frat, you lose all opportunity to have your own freedom to do anything that you want your way. That's the analogy here. Right. But Kyla Murray? Kyla Murray says got to be a lot like what it's like for Kyla Murray in actuality if a frat wants him at Oklahoma you walk on campus. Everybody else might have to pledge everybody else might have to go to the meetings. Everybody else might have to do obnoxious embarrassing things..

"Listen, we've got breaking news. We interrupt this program to let you know that the Browns Chris Chris Mortensen. The more report is reporting that the Cleveland Browns are going to announce Freddie kitchens as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. A lot of things I'm not even saying this, right? Because for context, we we film this podcast a podcast was done. And then the news broke. So we are adding this and Freddie kitchens is the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Joe Thomas, give me your immediate thoughts. Well, another head coaching vacancy that yours truly has correctly assigned the coach to I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'm like, the Scott Boris agent, NFL coaches because I just keep getting these things right? But all joking aside. I think it's a tremendous higher. It seems like it is the perfect situation for everybody in that organization. They've gotten a chance to see FREDDY kitchens. His personality. See how we leads see what is offense looks like. And they've gotten a full year trial run, which is great. You know, I think when you hire a head coach there's so many unknowns. But when you hire a guy from within your organization, a lot of those unknowns are gone out the window. Now, clearly when he takes over as head coach it'll be a role he hasn't had before. So there's still some some question marks. But it's going to be a lot less than if you go outside the organization and hire somebody. Plus they've got an opportunity to keep this momentum going the momentum that they build during the season the goodwill that they've built between Freddie, kitchens and Baker Mayfield. This gives Baker and opportunity in a second season not have to start all over again with a new head coach in a new offense. And the big question that remains for me is who is Freddie kitchens going to hires? His defensive coordinator Gregg obvious answer is going to be Greg Williams. It's always a little bit tricky when you interview somebody for your head coach or when he's been interim head coach to go and basically. Demote him and put him back to being defensive coordinator. But a guy like Greg Williams who has as much experience as he does in the NFL who's been a head coach before who seems to be very happy and satisfied in Cleveland. He loves Cleveland. He loves coaching for the Browns. It seems like him. And Freddie kitchens worked really well together. If anybody could make it work, you would think Greg Williams would be the guy that could step back and become that defensive coordinator again and keep this good feeling moving that they've got right now in Cleveland. I think it's good. And maybe that's what sucks so long. Maybe they're trying to work that out like maybe they're trying to secure great Williams, the defensive coordinator to stay there with Freddie kitchens. Keep things in place. The Browns played really really good down the stretch. And for a guy like Baker Mayfield who broke rookie records and exceeded everybody's expectations. It was super important to the organization to keep that in place keep that environment where he thrived just the way it is give them another year to develop give him another year to grow build the chemistry with the coaches with the players and everybody who bought in. And things are looking up with the Cleveland Browns. I'm really excited about this higher. I think they made the right move. We said it from the beginning that, you know, it's a it's a hard hard thing to winning Cleveland as two guys who played for this organization who are still very close to the organization. We've seen coaches come in and out players in and out for an office guys in and out in no one has had the ability to successfully win in that organization. So when these guys put together the resume they did at the end to show. Hey, we have the formula. It's hard to go against that. You don't go outside of that. And go higher known you go with the people who have proven and have on their resume that they have one in Cleveland. Yeah. We got a Baker kitchens in in in Cleveland, just the way it should be just makes too much since the thing..

"The worldwide leader in sports, Chris Mortensen, the more report reporting that the Cleveland Browns later on today will name Freddie, kitchens their new head coach in the state of Ohio that the man who was. The running backs coach. Okay. The man was also this it really is amazing guy. Never the guy would never coordinated a play called a play his entire career as a professional. As a professional. Coach the the he was the quarterback coach last year the running backs coach became elevated after kitchens became the offensive coordinator. But the guy would never call the play live in the NFL until the fourth preseason game last year. Is now going to be the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. And there's two ways of looking at it. There's two ways of looking at it one is that they kind of thought what they had in him, which is a Bruce Arians acolyte. That got brought over to the team. And this Bruce Arians acolyte that John Dorsey saw something in said, hey, you know, what let's just kick the tires a little bit here and give him the shot to call plays in our forth preseason game. And they did. And then when Hugh Jackson finally as we all know was sent packing. And. We were all wondering what that meant for the offense. Certainly since we thought Todd Haley would be the amid the immediate offensive the new head coach and they bounced him too. And they elevate Freddie kitchens to the role. And then all of a sudden Baker Mayfield becomes the guy that they drafted first overall hoping to be the game changer.
