Dr. Chris Martenson Shares an Update on Monkeypox

"Doctor Chris Martin is a toxicologist, pathologist, and founder of peak prosperity, a great website, and strategic advisory council member at the unity project, doctor martinson, welcome back to the program. Charlie, it's so good to be back here with you today. I enjoy your website. I want to ask you a little about economics too later in our conversation. But kind of off the bat here, what is going on with this monkeypox deal? Why is the media all up in arms over it? And what should we know that the media is not telling us about monkeypox? Well, this is a big manufactured sort of fear hysteria thing. They're just riding on the wave of the last virus and the turn in the same crank, I think. From an actual health standpoint, what do we know about this? There's 1100 cases worldwide, but looks like it might have been circulating for a while and it looks like it mostly only transmits between humans who have very close contact, which they've chased us down to a couple of raves in as well. It looks like gay sex seems to be a strong way to get this passed along. So it's not expressing itself like we saw with a respiratory virus, which passes easily in asymptomatically somewhat between people with a very high what's called an R nought. This thing doesn't transmit all that easily. In fact, it seems like it should be not that hard to avoid. Because it only passes with people who are symptomatic, hopefully in this day and age we know not to engage in close behaviors with people or

"Get blocked about that. You could freeze up if you dislike letting it flow. Then you can inspire so many people that we've all been inspired by certain teachers Well i love that. he's the wiz out last one. It would be show business. But the reason i'm asking is turning your craft and your job what lesson you've learned about that To still play. Play even outside of that so inning and there's an expression of busman's holiday which is when people who drove buses in cities would go. They go to coach trip. So there'd be on another bus Do the same thing that you do as you hobby That like it's like saying to michael phelps. Okay just goes around with this duck. Yeah yeah enjoy the water. Yeah go and do. Yeah it's great. It's not really a plot point to ruin. It's just a fun moment. And here's the final question. Chris what what is the. Can you think of a time in your life where you laughed so hard. "You have a feeling about that sensation so there's like a maybe like a swirling in my stomach and then i go. I'm anxious about that. And then my brain goes because it's learned not to just trust the bodies process which would be to just let that live for a time like a guest like the guest house and then be released but my brain and instead tries to organize and goes. Okay you're anxious so It's probably because of what's happening in afghanistan or really more. The story is often like well. We're it's anxious. Like how bad is this gonna get. Am i going to have a panic attack. Am i going to die. Is you know like i told like. Sometimes the voice my brain will will give me for my anxiety. As like am i gonna completely will lose it and i don't even know what that means but there's just like that's how i know i'm in my brain because i guess lose. It is like lose control in the brain is just trying to control so my brain will tell stories like okay. We're gonna panic this. There's no bottom to this. This is really big and the my body works on a better safe than sorry method. And so it's reacting to all the stories my brain is telling so they're just feeding offering the story so i just tried to say okay. There's no clearing the story but it's like your image that's just going to be on the surface of the water So instead i just go over and over to okay what what. Where do i feel. That am my body. What's actually just happening in my body and my brain will go. No and that's the story. Thank you and what's happening in the body and the more. I practiced that the more. I like there's no problem it's justice and sation love the that we think of two things one thing it makes me think of that. All things in nature on every scale are always in various states of peacefulness and unrest. Whether that's in the insect world or the sky the even the sky itself yes and the sky is fine because just like well. Yeah part of me over. There is really story over here. We have a hurricane over here. Sun's shining nicely. And i'm just holding an invited on this guy. That's what i feel like. You're trying to get to them. Yeah all of this stuff is happening. And it's okay. That's a meditation. Technique is to remember that. You're not the clouds here. This guy ended identify with the blue sky and go like well. There's depression the difference between this. Does i am depressed. That's not dropping the story that's identifying what the story and there's nothing wrong with that. Let's not get hard on ourselves. I do that too i go. I'm doing sometimes but going there is. Depression is is. That's the difference going. I who. I am noticing. And that's what we were talking about on the way. And i was like i'm just anxious today. There's something going on here but he just going like there is anxiety or there is a storm going. I love that image of the ocean and doesn't mean that you don't have to address things. I think we do need to help. Get the tickets. Sold nets right but we do need to try and make sure that everyone is fed on the planet and has an. We do need to make sure that we help the environment right. But i think internally it's just like just to try and be kind to yourself like you're not a terrible person just for existing. I think that so many of us have program that way and then how can you possibly help anyone else. If that's your main in a monologue. So i think that's why i feel any of what this is selfish to do meditation and all this works. I'm not. I don't think it is because if you're to yourself as ways to not be thrown by other people and unto became to them yes right you're doing it from a compassionate place eckhard totally has something like this where it's like if you are. If you're like protesting something purely from a hateful us in them separated place. Then you're kind of just pushing forward that same energy in a different way but if you're doing it from the same action from a like we are the same we're in this together compassionate place even if you're angry but you're angry because of the compassion that you have for people suffering that dif- different. I mean that matters. Yup that's a big difference. I love that. Have you ever seen a ghost of you. Have your your british. it's really haunted over there. Of course it is a phony of a met. people have seen the ghost. No ghosts no coast. I'm seeing you in a british. Prep school you got payments after. Just four three thirteen. Oh that's great. Have you ever seen a ghost. yes and we can be done whenever you want. You've been so love it as long as you're okay you got it okay. Katie a what about ufo you never know. Hold on a second. Oh the coast ufo. I don't know if i've seen it goes 'cause maybe knows i. I realized the other day that the four of us in the band have probably been in the room with about ten million of the people over. The course which is a lot of people have met sort of. Yeah so any. Any one of them could have been ghosts aliens in fact i heard this amazing the other day. That's a really great point. Well this is the. I think he's a guy called jordan maxwell. A thinker said is definitely eighties here. But if you were an alien would you let the human race know that you will hear no. He wouldn't because they would. Of course fucking kill you. Yeah any any species. Smart enough to get here is not gonna make itself known. Of course right. they're like. Wow what an amazing in the same way..

"I didn't make you to make this shit. Make your own ideas fact. So you were raised evangelical though that was surprised. Yeah both both a little both a lot of both the a lot about did they vary in your home just many of the music and what can what impacted at have on you for me. It was very moral. It was about like looking like you're a good boy not being sexual not being that yeah fear of. How did you get all of that. And then then. One day. When i was about nineteen And it also. I think i don't get it but Sounds like we wanna go. When i was nineteen i was having conversation with a priest or minister and i said i don't like this idea of people go into hell even the worst person in the world spray reason why they were like that you know sure maybe. Ground them for a couple of weeks but it turns damnation seems weird. If that person was created by this version of gordon. And i don't think jesus would really be into some of the stuff that's done in his name so i just had this sort of thing. Maybe maybe i believe in a slightly different kind of god and And that that was epiphany. Was that age twenty one but before that it was very much like connecting to the music and the spiritual side of it. 'cause i can re i really felt. Oh that is definitely a hugeness and a wonder emerging but then also extremely punitive and shameful and ocd and really kind of weird view of myself as a awful awful person. Yeah that's right and not really how. I became an awful person except that everyone was telling you that inherently what you are right so this seems like it just felt so weird what administer or the priest when he said well so it is what we i think to go from my own path. Oh you mean he didn't minister teary though he said yep all gays go to hell. Yeah and what we going to double down. I'd also yeah. Yeah this funny to talk about now. It's heavy it's vp. it's like it's fun. And this is so many people and and millions and billions of people worldwide. They'll have even heavier religious religiosity. I share put on the wig under fear of death. We're we're okay. We had the freedom of choice to say. Actually i think i believe in something different right but i think as a teenager. You definitely have some programming that takes years to undo. And what started to untie the string for you and and how did you retire. It was just feeling like i don't really believe that. And then did you just have nothing for awhile. Law voice believed of known in something. Yeah but to i. Didn't i stopped. I would stop being a christian. Usa yeah but became more of an atheist all theorists. Yeah ophiuchus. i've never heard. It's a new phrase in its reno going to catch on. I think it will feel trying to believe in everything so that feels feels better. Was there any teacher or person or quote or something you read that like helps you give language to your awesome. Yeah once. I started reading me but that was not until H thirty one free form until then it was a mess. Quite frankly really. How did that manifest You know the normal season. I've been normal because it's not drugs and alcohol that was yeah this being quo cd and quite just all over the place. You mean trying to control reality trying to control reality. You did have a lot of sleeping pills at one point to have a break from that voices. Yeah your awful. No no. I mean this is great. This is why i love it. I'm so grateful for all of this. Yeah and then but then in two thousand twelve i go showing roomy and the oh. Yeah there's there's other people that believe in. God is this one this and all people are especially all creatures especially the ones better or worse than anyone else in. And that's what i've been yearning to have echoed and it's in all of our songs is sort of belief in this business and belief in love and everything but it wasn't till about ten twelve years ago that i've i've heard it come back to me from way more serious sources this is woefully now. Are you kidding. You're talking to people that would understand. I thought it was nuts for awhile really singing about love and most of our love songs of brady. I think songs to god. In a way that doesn't surprise you agree well. Yeah it is the they're in a lot of Like you know original especially feminine mystics. Like like talk about the beloved and like yearning and loving. It's it's kind of just the love it's not well it is. It's like god is love. And god is kept. You got his well of well. Works both ways. Expect way sexuality as part of that. I've tried to make this work on stage a few times. But it's just a little too weird even la try. It was just the idea that like the universe is sex. Meaning you're being penetrated by the air. You breathe it comes inside. I don't mean it calms enters you. That sexual thing is a union. And you eat you eat. We ate lunch and we shoot it. We did it in front of each inhale and take. Yeah exactly and you drink things and goes inside of you and part of it becomes you and is you and then you poop. I'm not trying to be gross here like you kind of have this pleasurable reverse anal sex dropping of of the food. That is you and now. Isn't you what i'm saying is you are connected to everything. And the sex is union your oneness with all things sexual. I don't mean it's erotic or kinky or arouse the i mean everything it interacting with other things all the time and it only exists in relationship to those other things so my friend michael gungor as is great book called this and he says you are like a tree you are ask connected to. The earth is a tree as you are the wireless upgrade meaning. You can walk around. The roots are called feet yet. But you are planted to this planet. If i took chris martin put you into the cosmos. You would freeze and you would die. You've got you are the planet. You are the i love. That does some those tough someone else say yes completely nuts because it's really true but with so many things that are true if you try and say them in english sound like an idiot yes. This isn't a gotcha moment and we can. Even you choose. Well i mean. I ask everybody so. Don't think it's a an abusive celebrity or anything. Have you done. psychedelics overhead. An all only want so mushrooms. Okay so he did once. And i loved it and i that was good ones and then it sort of confirmed my suspicions. Well this is divers yes so okay get. That seems to be true so on the right path but also. I think that to be realistic. I think that wanting to sing in front of thousands and thousands of people is very addictive late later. Elating when you would just israel postal words. He's trying to say is aleisha. Everybody he means wordsmiths. God got right there on the stage. What he really means there's the asl via l. so i and it was wonderful and I don't do so well on drugs. Of course it messes with The what was the music. Oh really enhances it and for me. It doesn't yeah well. And how does that manifest like you. You'll fill cloudy or you feel like you can drink Because i'm gonna drink a little sometimes like a shop something..

"You notice that you're not your mind has wandered Gently returned back to the breath. And that's like the whole practice. And i have come now. I have all these other practices. And i do guided meditation and i do love and kindness and all of that and i love it all but there's something so beautiful about the like basic the simplicity of that instruction because it really is like if we could just get the word out to just like breathe and when you're lost in thought gently returned back to the breath like that's so simple. It seems like any. My mom can get on board with that. Some of the other practices i do. She might think would be inviting the devil in but like focus on your breath and when your mind wonders return back to your but there's nothing crazier woo about that. You're right. it's so funny. Though that we're all so proud to judge and hate things that we have no idea about auto and not knowing yeah example. I was raised to think that yoga was evil. I started doing yoga and also isn't evil what this is really helpful and feel like if jesus muhammad or buddha they'd all be really down with yoga yes breathing and your county body and being kind to others so I love the said that because that's one of the things that some yoga classes i've taken seem to forget. Which is that compassion valve courses of master of that. But like going. Like if you can't that's it's a love. It's an opportunity to love your body and go like i can't. I need to take a break or something right. Sort of point is to a tune with the body we've sort of westernized and been like a team. You're under bitch man for it but it's like when you can realize his album title carrying that's your mantra bit. You we were we. You raise evangelical. That's that's and church of england which we both pretend to know what that means. I was just going to say. I feel like kind of starstruck about the church of england just the crown and cs lewis. Talk a lot about it. But i don't know very much about it. Yes well it's just this one church in england and we all go there raby. We'll just show every day speech. Oh okay i knew it. Such a magical place though. The thing that i guess is what they be here to. Protest protozoan portis protestantism awesome stench. Sort of the old fashioned. Kim one of the reasons why One of the reasons why all songs probably sound like they do a big court. 'cause i grew up with so much big caudal him music and i love it. Yeah in the same way that if you don't say probably her church had you can hear that in well definitely aretha franklin. Yeah where where if you musicians went to. Church is often a big or lauren hill district. That was a documentary right. Now you can. I bet you would do a real rippin cover of beat down my vision or something like that. Be those courts coldplay. don't oh definitely. We have numerous lawsuits kingston. Yeah no listen over big core this is taking..

"How did this happen. I don't want to waste time hating anybody. Yeah so You also can apply to yourself and to ease eases understanding of why people behave. They do it. Why why you behave the way you do sometime. That's right. why do i get so thrown. If so i i hear that someone said something mean about assam. Why maybe that's the weakness of strength in some way. Yeah absolutely have you. This is one of my favorite quotes. hate is a lack of imagination. And i mean like if you do take that conscious said no. I don't remember And i think. I've google debt. And i don't know it was inconclusive. I've also expanded it to hell is a lack of imagination. Like just throwing people into heller throwing people into the hell of your own judgment. Just hating them. It's not taking the moment to be like. Well why are they that way. And would i have been that way if i was in the same situation in certainly with the same body in the same brain. You would definitely here and i love that. You don't wanna waste time hating what's interesting like the taliban like i was trying to think now okay. A young man's in the taliban what how did they get there. And would i be the same in the branches. Most likely with that with that experience. That's right you wanna think. Oh boy vow. This is a little off topic. But she's helped me really blow my mind when we're having a negative feeling it's not an it's arab rock but it's not just what tara brach talk about. It's not just the feeling it's the shame that you have the feeling. I don't know why what you just said made me think of that. But like you'll be angry but then really the suffering comes because you're mad or ashamed that you're angry that you read that you didn't like and it's just blowing my mind. I know we went from the taliban to that. But like i couldn't tell you with us the room. The guest house which is the third two that was going to say. Yeah that thing really changed my life because when you're told that all your feelings you're the sort of observer behind them but they can be very powerful overwhelming so try and learn how to just accept them like guests but not take control and that is an ongoing practice but that that is a path to some form of peace. I think that's those that really because comes a time. Why do i get fucked up thoughts or feelings. Or and it's just lovely to have this poem partly from the thirteenth century and partly from coleman barks translation of it that is like on a your human. That's why you get all this feeling that's right. Yeah when i read that poem. I really like This is part of the game. Like i'm not broken because that is like a what you were saying. The shame around being. Like i feel everything i feel like every human emotion and one day i must be broken. What's wrong with me and you read that. And you're like oh humans have been experiencing that yeah exactly and the idea of grill. I love the part that says greeted at the door laughing. Like the idea of of welcoming those feelings. Like i know you. You're so when. I can like really sit and be with my fear. I almost always will have a moment where i laugh. Because i'm like you're most familiar friends like you've been with me the entire time. I'm not like i'm scared of you like your this other monster. I know you. We've been living together for thirty. Two years seemed dracula. Dracula isn't scare anymore to our modern like it's just like a weird old guy hail wearing a cape scary. He was scary when you were a little kid and you saw like. Hey you're like dracula mike. What are you to sell me breakfast cereal. That's like fear many times. Can you see them and still be startled. That's so that's exactly it and it really it really. So it's kind of feels cliche at this point but like that's the portal like. That's the gift if my fear is here if i can see it as like okay. So that's all the sudden. My adore doorway has opened up into pure presence. If i can be with this fear and real really just nurture it and cradle it Then i'm gonna get into space. Innevitably of like spacious loving aware. Obviously alchemy alchemy. You need the chemicals. You can't be mad at the chemical. Yeah yeah boxes can't get good at boxing. This they'd known how to be hit how to take a hit big muscles in this u. Lift things you don't know how to lift. So yes all these things sent to us. And if you given some good guidance you can. They can also strengthen you i think my my only feeling is like you know this is definitely a lot of countries around the world. Now i feel like who's getting taught taught these things that really helped me. Yeah how we know. Imagine if you were in afghanistan refugee right now or you're in a lower income families who is helping you with these feelings and then and then all these kids that get sent to prison for drug use whatever that no no one is giving them any chance so any tools or any any way if like you must have a lot of rage trauma in you That's that's help the but this is a bit of a segue. I love that. Yeah how is it how to make it accessible feel in a strange way guilty because being having access to this stuff. That's really helped me so much wondering. I wonder how everyone else can them that this really might be helpful tool for everybody. Not just you know. Middle aged so rockstars the for everybody. Yes yes the guy that swears that you traffic or or the guy. That's a dictator right now in belarus. Or whatever yeah. I was just thinking about this yesterday. I the same guilt. Like i'm like this is such a privilege. It's also a privilege to just have my basic needs met so that i can heal these wounds. Yeah hierarchy of needs. Yeah and but i was also just thinking like this is why when i i was taught to teach mindfulness. It was like three basic steps. Take your seat place your attention on your breath when you're when.

I didn't mean it and like i am like so sensitive as we all seem to be and i remember like because my my previous marriage there would be things like that and i i would. He would be like well. I you know. I was fighting. I didn't mean it like i remember. I still remember every word. Jason born to that just like words are so important to me and they like staff they stab and they stick and i like collect them and it's so hard to let it go but i really do think there are some people who haven't learned to meditate and free form write clearly. Who like they actually do mean it when they say well. I didn't mean it. I wonder but you have to be a real hot head. Yeah i had an argument where he really lost his temper. But he's such a hot head. That i and i say that with a lot of love i believed him when he said i didn't mean it. If you're just like pretty even all the time and then you tell me you're like gosh. Would you talk about the the this weakness. Our i changed my life. Oh okay loved My friend gave me a book called the cost of love by alan the bottle. Or if say without the frenchaccent it's allen the button on the button that sound into the bottle who's brilliant i guess if philosopher writer This is this is a book about Two people in a in a marriage actually and It's really great. But he used this phrase in it The weakness of our strengths which which really like it resonated with me so much that i didn't up fold on the bottom of the page to remember That's really earmark isn't enough for this book in whatever the of yeah on so The weakness of our strengths so so he was saying how everyone goes through stuff as young people and your body adapts to survive. Whether that's you have an alcoholic father or your refugee or your body will human forty nine believable covered my family so the miraculously mate so we can adapt to most situations And then sometimes later in life those neural pathways maladaptive. Will you still use them for the wrong situation. So let's say you learn to be very almost because he had abusive parents. That might mean later on in your iran relationship. You're not very good at letting that person in or talking vulnerably about yourself or you had to lie about your feeling so as not to upset someone so later on you. You don't want to tell them how you really feel. That kept you safe and alive. Kept you safe also has a shadow self right. I think what he means by this the weakness of your strength and for all the you know. I talk therapies and talk about growing up in my family and everything that really helped me put into perspective like everything that i might perceive now in two thousand twenty one as a grown man with grown parents old parents. That seems frustrating. Why can't you just this this or this. Well that's just the weakness of their strength and the strength kept them alive catcher. You kept me alive. It wasn't perfect but as we always say it was the best they could do. And now we're just dealing with some of the weakness of their strength. It's a real. I really liked the phrase. "Am i doing this. And the my notes say because joy matters. That's a good one to give back you've received so you you you're getting the songs it sounds to me like you're going well. Then share them right on a fundamental level. I love it. I love it. Yeah even today. We're working on something. New and i it makes you want to run to work. Wow that for that. I'm so grateful that is definitely been times where it's become a little disillusion or other things have taken over or you think or should i be spending more time trying to become like a stock investor or something. No just try and get better at the thing that you do And especially because saint for you for the last year or so. It's been not possible to play for people so that the gratitude for that is overwhelming. And we're we're about to be able to do a few things for a few people saw really high. It hasn't at debray improv. This week but i feel like there's more to it than meets the eye with pete because you definitely have five hundred fans in the bray area. Even i can tell you that. I mean all come and offering. What's the drinks deal. I think it's or more. I'm not sure should if we can do a tweet later. Something figures properly cova de go. Keep saying they're not normal circumstances and also says like close enough to la. Where it's like. I don't know maybe people are like all. Catch it a largo. I don't can't be using this time. I love i wanted to do. And i feel the pain. I really general so we sign up to do this right. The ticket anxiety is a good example of you. Get into this because you love music then you do. There are a lot of amendments stapled to the i want to tell joke amendments and one of them is and i forgot this during the year as i forgot how personal and how it can make me afraid and angry that the tickets aren't selling and i start carrying it in my teeth. Feel it in my teeth. I'm driving vow to this luncheon. Lovely time and i did not feel right until i was just like. I just have to tell you that. I'm feeling anxiety that i haven't performed in a while. Like i have a fistfight coming up and we're supposed to talk about who we're going to have lunch with tomorrow. Like i have a fistfight with a bald man in a mustache. Old-timey fitting. that's what it feels like when you haven't done stand up in a long time in your little rescue like how's it going to. You're scared and then on top of that and not that many people yet watch sell out. It'll be great but like not that many people wanna come and you forget. And i'd love to point this back to you. You love playing music with your friends but all these other things came along that you didn't know nobody trained you. How to deal with them necessarily no no absolutely not having a baby. Yeah no no instruction manual. There's not really think for bands if you're a nerd we so nerdy that We study over the band's before and so that is a form of instruction. And you know maybe. Don't get into heroin at this point or maybe right. Try and take all the money even if the song is. That's right it's a bill just behind the music that's what he said he's i don't understand why these bands are burning out. He's like you haven't they seen behind the music and it's it's yeah. Forget what the point was what i was saying. That's okay let's just sit in this type of pizza pick depends. I don't know where they came from. But i'd like to speak about the white.

"And it's it's so difficult to navigate. And i was just gonna say once you're winning in the way that the west wants to win which is how can you pay your bills. Do people know who you are. And you have both of those things going. We have two bills. We have bill we pay. I did just meet a bill but when you're winning in that way it's sort of hard. We don't have a lot of allowance culturally to correct someone who's winning so hard in these regards that culturally we value so much that makes sense. Yeah so it must be hard. I know arrive at least worked with some like super high functioning successful people and i can see the risk that you sort of can become like a planet you know and everybody just sort of orbits around i. I don't know oprah oprah seems to be doing wonderfully to be honest. But i think there has to be a risk of being oprah. Who's gonna tell oprah. She has says probably our stylists saying like. Who's going to tell you that you're being addict to the band and in this case it was your your also lucky that the rest of the band will do that too. Yeah but it really is it it is. There is something lucky about it. Because they're like like pizza. We know people who we just you. You kind lose your person. S if there is a life where everybody is just like will agree with whatever and pretend like you know you become perfect money to be lonely will though i think the reason why we're getting along i hope you feel it is. We don't really want anything from you. I'm in a lot of people. I the company first and then i said it's very general crushing another wonderful successful person. Which is which is judd. And when i was going around with jed it was i got tired of how many times people say five had ten minutes with that guy and you must have that. I mean there are a lot of people that are just like could i Something to you or something or would you like to produce this or this one time a guy came up to me. He was re drunk at an awards. Show and we'll see like what what's what's what's up being a rockstar. Everything i said was is my dream my passionate everything. And he's a yeah. I was thinking about it just like it was a career choice. So do that. Oh you sort of have a passion for it has to start with somebody saying my sister says not to come like you know by now out of the core but Of course that might not be the person to ask whether it's difficult to be objective about this Because i'm sure to some people. I do have all of those. You know so But i will say that if you're in a band with people that you've been with since you were. Teenagers evolve done everything together or a lot of things together and then in relationships with people who are equally successful or more successful and sometimes more famous and so that sort of cancels that out very maybe. that's why actors gravitate to act. You know this sort of you can just be normal humans together. Yeah yeah lawyers. I'm sure attracted to lawyers. yeah what what were the tools that you learned. He said you were coping with these things. Talking about being sensitive. Oh yes. I learned some tools. I'm kicking their own ideas to to really helped me at the two main ones one is real quick. Sorry meoni's offers the best. I'm just kidding. Are you wearing all your piece picks. Today i'm wearing me when i listened to your book. This guy never pays for and ice genes. "Do do do do. Do you know it comes in very good cover to smashing star. Somebody's gonna make some kind of cut of that. Oh i hope so anyway. So this is a great. This is why it's silly to do any interviews to do with. Music is none of us. That really understand where. It's good where it goes from. Yeah it's coming from somewhere else. You like a fisherman urfi to learn a bit of how to catch it. He didn't really make it. that's right. who knows where that's all came from. It came through timberland whose genius of sonex and we were just talking about when people go. Oh that was parallel. Thought like i'll have a joke. And i'll be very similar to this person show can go. We're swimming in the same stuff. You know what i mean. It's like we're in a ball ballpit living. We think we're so isolated. And what i'm saying is it really does feel like the ideas are byproducts of reality that we're sharing. I don't know it gets a little woo but i. I really feel that strongly. When i remember greg fitzsimmons and i came up with the same fountain joke and i was like yeah. We both grew up watching people throw coins and fountains. Why do you think you're in that world. And i'm in this world where in that world and we both think about funny things it's going to happen. We happens with music to We got sued once for the person said that we the music which we hadn't And so we all these we had some researchers and they found like fifteen other songs and we all had the same phrase it. No that's exactly right. That's how that were living in the same world where we're operating whether we like to think of it that way that like where living. Yeah we're getting the same juice. That's the one a practical like kind of evidence of the fact that it's like one thing itself you were saying. I liken it to making like hunting. i've never hunted would not want to hunt but ideas are like deer meaning. They're sort of skittish. And there's like a listening. I we read something that you went through a phase where you wake up and try to begin writing right away. That true was if this happened. This morning i wake up and this is something there. It's almost like like an inbox Or go to and this. This morning was a so called. We got it made which was never going to be a co play. So i can't really sing. Their own. came through this morning so follows me on twitter if you want me to send it okay. My own rule is if if an idea is calling can't say no that's really cool speed and then sometimes you then you spend three weeks trying to cross around an idea but the idea itself where it's the same fa- jokes i think. Why does why some people just have the gift of one liners. yeah. I just actually the seal of this. I was who i feel. I compliments coming spent the weekend with girlfriends and joshua tree. And i was there saying like i think. Comedians are all so intelligent and i was like no. I live with one hilarious. Very good. i was like it isn't intelligence. But that's not what's making them so quick. I think at with you like it's like a an openness so that's why like you've shared about this to like there's like an edginess that can happen like if we're sitting in a restaurant pete will notice like jason bourne like he will know what's happening at every other table around him and i i think of that as like you're just like so open to life to like you're just like an open vessel that It drops in and you can. You can tell a joke so quickly or you can have a funny response to something so quickly. Because it's just you're open to it whereas most of us are like not open it is a sensitivity like i had. I had breakfast with a friend of mine. And i was like. Why don't i do this more often. And then i catch myself deconstructing. Replaying every beat of the breakfast not in a bad way. It's not like plaguing me everything he said. We'll be blacked out in every podcast. It'll come out and jokes right because it's like when i'm listening. It's really getting caught in that virtue of growing up and not always feeling certain it's also I'm wondering chris. If you feel sensitive in the world isn't is the world a bit much for you or are you breezy well. I have a lot of tools though too. i get a little feelings but like any human and I definitely used to get very knocked over by feelings. And so that's i guess a four sensitivity and i'm grateful for that vulnerability because it allows music come in but I've had to learn over the last ten years or so. You know 'cause. I'm an adult man you can't i. Don't want to have a selker. Depression in the middle of interviewers then volumes that function. Yeah so. I have good tools to handle. I get i mean. I'm sure you do too every day. Right now is like hof massive depression looking internally and externally what everyone is going through everywhere Elation at being alive and then music. And i get to do things this and i'm sensitive if someone else going through something of sensitive if i feel like i've heard somebody So yeah the answer is very sensitive. I don't know whether that's more or less. It's definitely made a conscious decision to not try them What's the word. We needs to ban band-aid it Yes don't drink. I don't do drugs or anything. 'cause i'm trying to learn to like the sensitivities part of the gift i got given. Yeah that's right. So ended is like i my whole. I mean the the peel of mindfulness. So like the fire. You were talking about like my fire for teaching. Mindfulness and going down this path is that i feel everything like so intensely But before. I didn't really feel that way until i got pregnant and a lot of the things that happened with that occurred before that i was like sleepwalking. I was completely numbing either with like food or weed or just like in denial of my own feelings and and it is so like creativity. Vitality sensuality like all of. Life's good stuff is part of that sensitivity of the likes of being open to feeling all of the waves of life and i so i try to remind myself of that because sometimes i am like god is so much like i think sensitivities that i cut you know no sensitivity can be a superpower you know especially if you're in the business of songs or comedy where you're trying to relate your heart to someone else's heart but one where tony has made the boots and everything but he doesn't out of control he hasn't he hasn't mastered it. I realized that my sensitivity was also coming out and really bad ways with the rest of the band. something. I would really get stroppy in the studio grumpy or sulky. Someone wasn't playing the way i want it to be a real dick and that's charming when you're twenty three and twenty four but by a third album you know when you know one has to be the and then when it really hit me was with my daughter. The i am became aware that she was so attuned to me. Being a little bit unpredictable that it was making her Half took you know navigate. That and i had to try. I'm still trying to work on that. Because i don't want her to feel like she can't be her in case her dad. Oh my yes and like how much money would you pay to hear. Your dad say that i know i know. But that's lovely that you recognize that are to be shown but i'm i'm really grateful showed you. Who's like my big points. That my sister so yeah enough. There are few people in my life. Who i'm very grateful but a lot a lot of people But facility in this case for saying hey you could maybe work on a bit and it might really improve the whole of your life. I don't need to work with everything. I'm for raw. Okay we'll get. Let's get that grateful to be on. I'm trying. I definitely fail every day. but i'm happy to be at least trying because i don't want to calcified into an old man that's like you know like an old ex famous person that you have to sort of do everything their way..

"One of my favorite philosophers even a small infinity is infinity. That's right it's we talked a lot. Yes because i'm not saying that one's smallness is a bad thing. It's almost like within that. Smallest you can feel the hugeness. Send the whole like ocean and the drop kind of thing. That's it and i've i've personally deafening meditation. Find a real piece of the. It's okay. I'm just in this big one thing and right now. I'm supposed to be a musician. Thank you so much. And i'm gonna do my very best and then i'm gonna melt down into whatever the next thing is whether that's just being soil or someone's candle and all okay. This is the point. So i think twice a they with meditation. You get that sort of so. It's okay it's okay. Well the stuff that you worry about the other twenty three and a half hours is just to sort of game Yeah but it's fun. It's great and you learn and you grow and you fail everything But ultimately say it's all it's all okay but when you put it all down. And that's what meditation is and you're still there that's great. That's great news. That's who you really are other stuff is stuck to the window as who you really artists who we we realize it's all of us right everything every but it's so hard to let alone on your poker. I don't know how to articulate that feeling. It's just a feeling like okay. It's right. yeah yeah. Yeah when it comes to me often mike Oh i don't have to do anything that's when not lake right now. I can sit. It's like a deeper profound. Like i just am like i i am. I don't have to knots. I feel like really powerful for especially people like us who were raised religious. Where it's like you have to do certain things to reach the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of heaven is that feeling of just like. Oh it's okay. i don't have to do anything. It's it's an undoing earning. It's an unknowing. The mind can't now but it goes back to what you were saying about. Success is we so we just started talking off. Mike about tickets stress like my weekend when this airs isn't there laura is going to open for g. Got cocoa tickets home because she had the draft. Because she's amazing this piece. Though i was just gonna say this will air after that weekend is done. So it's like a great cosmic. What are you worried. About linking no matter what the land in the missile air like. Everything will marshawn harp on slow ticket sales at the brain precipitator third weekend where everybody who has anything to do with ticket. Sales has been in that position. Yes i've been even with all of the suffering in the world that's happening as we speak. We're all over the place still if you said to me you know. The tickets aren't really selling in pittsburgh dot that would consume me more than anything in los angles knowing how ridiculous that is. Yeah because i think that for people who've become show business people ticket sales is somehow a measure of your worth even for you internally. Yeah because we got into showbiz partly to give ourselves a sense of self worth. It's like stopping the wound. You were trying to fix in the first rate it barely what he likes you then coming in and i knew it all along and what's worse you go on instagram. And i'm not normally this way. But i see so many people selling out there like added show added show. And i'm like man i'm i'm trying to subtract to show over but also who cares. This is what val said on the way we left the east side coming here and it's feeling stress and by the time we got here. I felt fantastic. And we were just talking about. And i'd love to hear your thoughts on the folly of looking for it out there. I took that as long as you want. Please talk about it for only two hours. Okay well the forty of what would you describe it. I've looking for it out there. Oh yeah yeah. Whatever it is up in working on this a lot I think that other if it's a fully it's just a natural thing of like everybody like you were saying earlier. Everyone wants to be seen. Everyone wants someone to confirm that their precious special because we don't really at least in the schools. I went to really get to your precious just by existing just like that lizard and just like you know and alan watts. Have you ever stopped and thought about the virtues that you grew too precious jewels that this planet knows. Which are your eyes you you. That's part of you and you know nobody told you. Have you ever watched a video. That teach habib sent me a couple of weeks ago of a a cell turning into a tadpole wow and it starts says nothing and then you just watch life. it's just wild. Yeah feeling anytime without much everywhere. Yeah that magic is absolutely everywhere is also strangely hidden in maine me in the mainstream media video ranch headline right so so so so you really told as a kid. How by the way you have all this magic in you and so does everybody. Everyone's different to anyone else. We're all special and we'll we'll super special so you're like okay. Well i don't feel good about myself. No one in this circle is telling me anything good. So i'm gonna become something much bigger to get that applause. Yeah can you pinpoint it. Because i had a christmas eve where i went up into the bathroom like a movie like an indie movie clenched my fists. I was just so frustrated. With where i was in my how i felt really how i felt small and not special. I kind of my an angry prayed. Kinda myself i was like. I'm not i'm not gonna be here. I'm going to get out of here. I was Fourteen and I was at boarding school. This this ad is not and I went to hang out with some guy in the same boarding houses me who had a sister a girl school up the road and we went to hang out with his sister and his friends and the end of the day he said. He said my sister's asked if he would not come next week. Crushed under a pot of brick home. Oh oh okay. I've clearly like turn into something else really working. I mean it's the same thing. I wish i could like be. Go talk to that kid so it was all okay. Don't worry this is normal teenage stuff. That's the time if we just felt like all right. I'm just less than nothing. And so the way it was the greatest gift ever and littler fire and that combined with the love of music because as people i know who love love love music but don't they don't really bothered about whether they do it as a job over whether they're in a huge banner right so most frontmen so i was just gonna say they didn't have the compulsion to master most from men have some sort of and i had a few episodes that i'm sure you guys did something that the fire that just won't cannot be extinguished at my. I will not stop. And so it's a blessing and at the time it felt like a curse but it was the greatest. I would do nothing but be highly grateful to all of the people concerned in that madonna talking about that all the time. It's like i wish. I could take away the wounds of her child self. But i'm like and this is a cliche but it doesn't mean it's not true. That's who made her into the that. I love so much. Now that sounds like a backstreet boy lyric. But it's true so there's nothing wrong with that. I want it that way. If i were you sidebar. All i would do is hilarious covers like i would just cover weird sound like when phoebe bridges covered the google's. I don't know if you saw that didn't see that. I just think it's so funny. Like if i were you. If i were more i would just cover unexpected songs and do them we. We covered Pony the other day genuine fats. Like one of my songs can go to. What is the most piece having. Because of the ernest i wanna timberland first big songs. He produced that. Yeah i didn't know and it's brilliant. Tell me why a loved.

It's like they don't believe it. They on you said this. They'd rather be unhappy rich and famous than wager. Arrests get like any like true happiness anonymous rich and famous. If that makes any sense. I think it does. I think that You look there's all of these imagined hierarchies that are designed to make humans feel contextualized unsafe because if you don't have a hierarchy of religion or money or race or whatever is the system he believe in then you have to confront your infinite tiny in the infant magic and mystery which some of us find like the best feeling of all and i think for some people is too much and so you like you know i'd i'd rather joined the british aristocracy system. Even though i'm not at the top. I i know where i fit and i think certainly for me growing up i was like well. Fame is going to be the answer for me for like. What is this deep longing. I have well. Maybe if i get famous it will go away and of course. It's not the answer but right it's it's it's sort of tangible thing right. It's actual line that standing. Yeah yeah you go. Oh there's wreckage obeys bottle exactly. I'm somewhere behind listed my life purpose list of actors like only a few things. You gotta do you. Well go ahead moment. It sounded like you were about to say something. Well i was just going to say. I think that that is. That's so wise and it's like that's happening in our system the parts. We all have a part of us that once the context which is our brain. That's our brains loving way of keeping us from of orienting us. I think so. It's it does. Your brain just wants to organize and put things in categories and like make sense of everything but our bodies and our spirits can be and can like marvel in the nobody ness the smallness and the and really like fines peace in that but rarely our brains let us get that which is points why i think this is a mood thing he goes. Don't don't wait for the mind understand. He's like the. Oh it's actually. It's richard rohr. He goes like don't wait for the mind to catch up with the heart. He's like the human imagination. Can't imagine a safe fastness. It will only ever imagine hierarchy and tribe and in and out so it's like so fuck it basically is what he's saying he's like the human mind will always come up with systems of in and out and the divine imagination which is what he calls it because he's a would be like again. Jesus has that quote where he goes. You can't divide infinity and the mind doesn't like that we want. I want to know i'm winning. You're losing. I want to know health. Some at least the brain wants to know who's the one i think it was you that.
