"Be the roper report. 6 items on the river. Number one, ladies and gentlemen, a new Tomb Raider game has been announced. We're going to go to Matt Kim over at IGN who writes crystal dynamics has announced a new Tomb Raider game and revealed that it will be built using Unreal Engine 5. And I've seen the game during the state of unreal 2022 crystal dynamics Tomb Raider franchise general manager Dallas Dickinson, promised a quote high quality cinematic action adventure experience, but showed no gameplay or images. And didn't reveal a release window or title. Dickinson said the game is looking to quote, push the envelope of fidelity and is looking to create an experience, fans deserve from crystal dynamics and tomb raiders as a series, Tomb Raider has a series. Crystal dynamics becomes the latest major developer to move its next project to Unreal Engine 5. Other developers include the coalition and CD Projekt Red, which has already announced that the next Witcher game will be developed using Unreal Engine 5. This will be the first new mainline Tomb Raider game since shadow of the Tomb Raider, which was released in 2018. Chris dynamics is best known in recent years for rebooting the Tomb Raider series, showing us a fresh look at Lara Croft's origins in a grittier setting. In recent years, it has developed marvel's Avengers and has been assisting Microsoft's initiative studio on a reboot of perfect dark. During the 25th anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise last year, crystal dynamics director will curse. Spoke about a unifying the storylines between the reboot trilogy and the original games, where Lara Croft is a more seasoned explorer. However, Chris Lake also said crystalline X wasn't ready to announce a new game at that time. Gary, the question I have for you is, are you interested slash excited for a new game from crystal dynamics? I asked I asked the world earlier with a Twitter poll and the final results are with about 5000 votes, 48%. Yes, 36 go eh, and 14% go no. Are you excited for a new crystalline? It makes a Tomb Raider. Yeah, kinda. I've got a bit of a dirty little secret here, Greg. I like Tomb Raider. I was editor in chief of PC gamer back in the back in the 90s when Tomb Raider first became a thing. Tomb Raider one and two. I played those a lot and I really enjoyed them. You know, they have an aged well, but I did really enjoy them. But I haven't honestly, and this is weird because you think, why not? I haven't played any of these new ones. It was really did the dark and Gritty reboot. I mean, maybe I played like the first level of the first one. And I just never went back to it. And I know they're very well liked. They're all three of them, right? Three out of this one. Rise and shadow. Is that right? Yeah, that's right. You know that. And they're all on the raw held in quite high regard, aren't they? It's been a very good. Oh, really? Shadow wasn't held in high regard. Oh, okay. Is that considered the weak link in the in the triptych? It was, yes, it was. I've seen people today go around on it. I was a big fan of the first two. And so I'm trying to get you right now where we are with the shadows you made are on PlayStation has a 75. So it's not terrible, terrible. But I remember it launched with a bunch of problems. And I did not vibe with it. And it was a different team. People are pointing out, yeah, and stuff like that. But it was their one. It was the one I'd asked Montreal was the main developer on it. Crystal helped, but that was when they were doing that is when Christa was really ramping up and getting ready to launch Avengers. Or at least was working on Avengers hardcore and why idols went and did shadow shadows the one that leaked off the subway. If you remember in Montreal where somebody was working on their presentation, the Montreal subway, and someone just took a photo and posted it and were like, all right, I guess that's a new one or whatever. Maybe the read I'm trying to remember because it's obviously several years back and maybe the reason I didn't get into it is because I felt like at the time there was a big trend everything was getting rebooted dark and Gritty dark and Gritty. And the Newton, the new Tomb Raider was really like direct as it was bloody. I remember that image of like tying off like her arm was all fucked up and she was like, you know, doing a, what do you call it? A fucking tourniquet. Tourniquet on it, and it was all like, oh, that's Gritty and dark and bloody and gory now and whatever. And I just kind of feel like everything's doing that right now. I don't know. I do know they are good games. And yeah, I'll play this new one. I'll tell you what, Greg. I bet it is a bunch of developers at crystal dynamics that are fucking thrilled about being able to jump off that fucking Viking funeral barge that is marvel's Avengers and get back onto a game that actually has a chance of people playing it. I told you to make fun of me in that cabin, so I have no one to blame myself. No, I mean, you're right, you're a 100% right. I'm sure I'm sure based on The Avengers reaction, many people were like, God damn it, I came to Chris and I have to make awesome. I'm a single player games. Can we do that? Of course, remember crystal is also helping out with the one and only perfect dark helping get that one up and running and doing that thing. We don't know the extent of that. And yeah, they are also working on marvel's Avengers, which of course would lead you to say, hey, I bet these guys are staffing up and guess what they are. Today, as we are going live pretty much, or yeah, I saw this, yeah, as we were going live. The one really, Jeff Ross, who was game director on days gone over at Sony Ben. It has been making podcast runs as of late talking about stuff that was going on there and Sony and that was he was the one who talked about the sales numbers for days gone and there was a brouhaha for a couple of days about it. He tweeted this. I'm excited to announce I now work at the amazing crystal dynamics as design director. That's all I can say for that's all that that's all I can say other than I'm thrilled with the project and especially the team of really wonderful people. I will become a seattleite this summer in the beginning of the movie saddle. Also come work with me. And he's quote tweeting a list of Chris lambics thing that is our weekly list of job openings has been updated, including roles across all of our studios, California, Texas, and Washington come make games come make the games of your career and they have lots and lots of jobs. Really well. It's a good time to be a game developer right now. It's such a, it's such a seller's market right now in the video game developing job market, right? Like so many places at hiring, it seems like staffing up big projects, lots of opportunities out there for game devs. Now, of course, stumble into one of the major questions of the day as we go through this and we'll go to greezy, who wrote in to Patreon dot com slash kind of funny games, just like you can and says so, Chris, I'm in a mix announced they're making another Tomb Raider game. It's hardly shocking. That's hardly shocking, but given that they are also working on perfect dark, does this make you at all nervous about the resources they're allocating to Avengers going forward? Does this at all alter your forecast of the game's long-term longevity? Thanks for all you do. Now Gary, I know that it's all fun and games to make fun of Avengers. For a number of well documented and well earned reasons. I on games cast this year in January when we did our predictions episode. One of my predictions was that Chris dynamics would announce they're working on a Tomb Raider. I think I might be putting these out of order, but I didn't give dates to them, but it would be that they would ask for working on a Tomb Raider. They would do one more major update for Avengers and then they would wind it down at some point this year and not do it. That's still my prediction and this doesn't change that. It's interesting when you read the Jeff Ross tweet quote tweeting dynamics them having California Texas and Washington and we're talking about.

Wouldn't you love to be in a position like that to say? Okay, I'm so rich and so bored that I just want to start a new setting. So this this billionaire Marc lore has outlined his vision for a new city in America and appointed a world famous architect to design it. Now we just need somewhere to build it. And about Oh $400 million The former WalMart execs has unveiled plans for the city called Hello, Sasha. Can't we do better than that? I mean, come on, Even Chris Scoville. Yeah, right. See, See? Perfect city. He puts the I mean, emphasize the low in Tolosa. That's the case. It sounds too much like Tulsa. Yeah, Talos. You're right. You're right. It does. So I think another bad name was Epcot. You don't like Epcot, huh? I mean, come on. I mean, I like it better than Tolosa, though. That's just cause we're used to have it back then it sounded weird. It did. It did sound. We're back in the day. And so this guy he's trying to get money raised to do the city, right? Yeah. So Really any one of us could have done this. Just say I want to have a city and I want to put it somewhere somewhere up with the money, right? Right. Yeah, like, does he have any skin in the game here, or did he just come up with the idea? I don't know. So this guy says this. The city's name is going to be to Lohse. Let's name this new city here. Let's let's let's do a much better job for him. "You know what i mean. And that's the thing i love about able to too is like there's so many ways to do one thing there's a hundred ways to do one thing and it's like you know like get choose your own adventure kind of thing. Yeah no it's so cool and then when you like you said when you work with somebody else and see how they do you can do the same thing but you might go about it. Two totally different ways as operational. I mean who were some of those early people you you worked with off the bat. I worked with Eric mark ally. He's does a lot of like Takao drum based to I learned. I learned a lot from By you know by loving crooked off he and he is very unconventional himself. The way he does a lot of things too. So i learned a lot from him and just like Let's see like astronomer has taught me like a lot of cool style marceau working with walker in rice jeb. Learn a lot from walker and rice as well. Of course. Yeah i wanna talk about them in a second because i know you guys have been very collaborative over the year. They're actually in there right in there. Okay i this is like a big creative space so in their ears like a big warehouse. And i have like this little room in the back. And they're in they're filming like a bunch of like contact right now because they're about to launch a labels their label. That's great hell. Yeah videos and stuff. How fantastic yeah. The doors closed. There's acn acs man. I'm sorry sorry. Yeah that's i've been there definitely talking about what is interesting. How did you meet by you know it used to be one. Half of the kroger's there. I met by I was playing This eight bristol party in california like their first. And only i think ever like hell party that old label this restore and I was playing with other parties and then I think bob played too. And we kinda just met on. The dancefloor started talking and stuff and then I don't know just kind of went from there. Like hey we work together like and you know i was. I was going for a while. I was going to bought south every other day and like kind of like just working on music with him but it was also kind of like She was teaching me. He was kind of like a mentor. No way you know and leg. I learned so watch from him. He's he's incredible. He's incredible and like he's so good at like e queuing like his ear is like insane. It's like when will i ever be able to hear things that you hear. Oh it's it's it's like the way. He picks out frequency insane. I don't know how he it's absolutely insane. Insanity one time is a very random has nothing to do with anything but there is one time he he mixed and mastered a thing. I was working on. And when i got back from him. I almost quit music. It was so good. I was like there's no i couldn't have even gotten close to what this Oh it's insane it's insane. He's a and i mean if you even look. We were talking about blog house earlier. I mean the effect croakers had on the dance music. Seeing there was nobody making music like that. Now you know. I just learned recently too. That that that their kid cutty remix the dan night like that. Famous like the huge. That was a in the beginning. It was like a free download on soundcloud or they just. They just did it because they wanted to. Is getting like a bunch of hype and took a downer then like but it was like started off as a free download so crazy i mean you. That's one of the biggest songs like. I still hear them talk all the time. It's still a huge song. And like i don't know the kid cutty has the same career if not for that so now on him for sure that made him and then there was another one too. Like a steve. Aoki's did a big kid. Cutty remix jill at that would also i feel like the remixes are really launching kid cutty which is great like it's a mutual relationship you know it's good for the remix. Earn it's good for the original artists. Absolute legend law right. Yeah yeah but it's just so cool. I'm with you to think about the ripple effect of just like oh made this remix throat on soundcloud and then here we are. What twelve fifteen years later. Talking about how this change the course of dance music. And yeah the we ed. We know him right exactly. Yeah he's my buddy. I love him. Yeah i listen. It's it's so cool to think about. Okay so let's maybe that's a good way to talk about your track word which you did with royce. Which i feel like for you was maybe an unexpected hit. Oh definitely stay with walker and rice like we. We had been playing that song for while and no no reactions. No one batted an eye but then you know like like chris. Lakes are playing a and like caught on strokes are playing like greed bellwood started playing it and then people are like wait. A minute ed yet. Sometimes that's sometimes it's timing right or sometimes you have to see it in the right context yet fun you can hear a song and like some crappy headphones and be like whatever and then you can watch a dj played at like e. d. c. And you know it's two different experiences absolutely so what was the experience for you of having a song really blow up like that. Was that the first time it had really happened in that way for you Yeah definitely i mean. I was making music like here and there. But you know just kind of smaller labels and you know wasn't really getting that much attention And then you know when that when that one started getting a lot of attention kinda just like blew up like crazy and That's why. I started like touring allies after that song came out and i started getting like going on planes in different places to like torque as before that always you know kind of like local stuff. But it's definitely like that definitely like opened a lot of doors for me. And i was able to work like all of a sudden all these all. These great murders were hitting me up to work with them and stuff you know 'cause they wanted vocals and they wanted to work with me and stuff so it definitely opened a lot of doors and it it was really cool that walker and ice let me be a part of it like let me work with them and stuff to begin with ev..

"Com slash new routes. Hey it's peter segal host of wait wait. Don't tell me. After a year and a half broadcasting from our bedrooms we are returning to shows with real live audiences starting august fifth philadelphia. Don't worry we will still have our beds onstage with us join us. We return to our classic planet. Money episode hosted by. Jacob goldstein and david kastenbaum about the million dollar bet between warren buffett. And ted say his first year two thousand eight was a terrible year for warren buffett. A terrible year for the index. As you probably remember that was the or the financial crisis the stock market the index fund got hammered buffeted. Terrible timing right worst time to start this bet by early. Two thousand nine things. We're looking really good for the hedge fund side for ted sites. We were way ahead like what to what the market would have been down about. Forty five percent and the hedge funds were probably down but twenty five percent. So if i'm imagining two runners on the track like your runner is really kind of pulling ahead at this point. It's safe to say our runner was hadn't moved much in the market runner. Had gone backwards a few miles the next year that was a good year for buffet off of the year after that also the after that the index fund kept beating the hedge funds that stupid simple investment was better than roomfulls of really smart people where we stand now as of the end of two thousand fifteen the index is up sixty six percent the hedge funds up only twenty two percent. It's a huge jack. You're not even close. No no that's right. There is not much time left. The bet end soon december. Thirty first two thousand seventeen side. He says the only way the hedge funds could win at this point is if there is another huge stock market crash and. He says he doesn't want to see that happen. Obviously are you bummed about. Probably having lost this pet a little bit sure. Yeah you had a chance to beat warren buffett with the odds in my favour and play out the way i thought it. Would you thought the odds were in your still think. The odds were my favorite. He actually says he would take the bet again if he could. If you could go back to two thousand eight he says it's essentially a fluke that the stock market has done as well as it has over the past eight years. So you're saying you made the right bet. You just got unlucky. Yeah that is how i feel about it and but it's only going to win. Because he got lucky. I think he did end up on the lucky side of the distribution. Isn't it also possible that it is just very very hard to to beat the market. It's not possible. That's a truce. What's your advice to ordinary. People do not have a lot of money but want to put some of the money in the stock market I think they should index from the hedge fund side of the bet. You know like. I actually think whole position. Frankly makes make some sense like i do. Think there are some people out there who really can't beat the market. Who are not just getting lucky. Somebody's gotta be first. "Best solution or tool for both of those struggles is community invulnerability. And it's so hard when you feel different or like you're gonna be judged at the very least pitied. you know. I think a lot of people who lived in accepting communities can still feel afraid of opening up because they just don't want to feel different or or look down upon not like they're not lovable but like they're all of a sudden different and to be patronised when you're suffering with something i don't know speak for myself. It feels worse than isolating and not having to deal with that. And i think that's why a lot of us who struggled with mental health issues will just pull pull away. We believe that crystal ball and our mind that is for the most part broken. And it's it's the disease has home field advantage when it gets us alone. Share if you would Both of you Any moments when you came out and what it felt like Not only emotionally and mentally but maybe even physically as well. Because i believe there's a there's a big relationship between how our body feels and how our mind in our spirit feel well at least came out. I think quite gradually In terms of being gay and quite suddenly in terms of being depressed. I didn't talk about the idea that i was depressed until i was pinned down and unable to move and unable to function and at that point i had to talk to friends about it and when i emerged from my first bout of depression i wrote an article about it for the new yorker and then it was out there for everyone to see and everyone to think about being out as gay. I feel is still a gradual process and it has to happen day after day day. I've just been through. The process of getting a new puppy for our family and for our son and the breeder was located in a rural part of the american south and we had a very pleasant correspondence but there was a lot of use of words like lessons that came into and i had the thought all over again if i tell her. I'm gay she not going to want to sell me. This puppy in the end. I my husband is actually gonna drive down and pick up the puppy in it all seems to have been fine and jeanine have been going back and forth about You know dog beds and things like that. But there's always that sense that you have to come out all over again and you have to tell someone all over again and even though i've written about it and even though i've been as public as i can be about. I feel as though it's a. It's a daily challenge. I think trauma survivors also experienced that. There's i'm a trauma survivor. And there's always this. Fear that when i share my experience of childhood sexual abuse that somebody's not going to believe me are. They're going to ask a question. That feels a dehumanizing or just something that's gonna make it awkward or uncomfortable and that they're gonna treat me differently. What what advice you have for anybody. Who's who's out there and is afraid to have a conversation with somebody that they're afraid might judge them and want feel free to jump in as well. Yeah burn me. I think having a conversation with my parents actually vote. Coming out was released scary for me. I had a huge barrier with parents. I remember i used to not trade to talk to them about what was going on in my life during swan stuff. Because i didn't want them to question me. And or moving to san francisco where where i pursued my higher education. I came out to ban thinking like to move if they wanna talk to me. That's fine link. This is going to be a new change in my life. And i just basically sat myself up to that. They weren't going to accept me and that was really difficult for me to do. But they did. And battling a huge surprise Really physically impacted because it felt like a weight off my shoulders and my dad hood main. Gimme kiss on the cheek. My mother-in-law but i know i'm lucky in it doesn't happen to every single. Lgbtq bliss get especially from communities of color. But that was a conversation that i thought it was going to come out of defeated not having occurrences for anymore. But that's when the most loved because you remember what felt like in your body when you got the hug. Kiss and the acceptance yeah. I literally got the chills. I saw like. I dunno fell out of this world is because it was something that really impacted my mental health. Bring up in slow. And i feel like i was labeled game before i was actually will to admit it for myself and that impacted me because it's like all my all my classmates were pointing fingers. He's gay he's gay. And i didn't even know what being gay was at that point. Mind you. I was like in elementary middle school. But the fact that i was able to do that with my parents have their support. One hundred percent meant the world to eat and acting. Today often informs about how i perceive my life like was saying even now like when you go into these spaces at scary because you have to come out again or you have to share some pieces of your soaring You never know how. People are going to. Chris lake Or just really deal with information especially like in work environment. So can we start. County traumatizing over and over again. But i i do see the power and the uae behind and i remind myself of that white to continue pushing and trying to aim for acceptance and just go ahead and andrew. We're to say. I just wrote one has said what he expected. That didn't happen. Does happen to a lot of people i mean. It's like a third of homeless youth. In the united states are lgbtq plus an enormous number of people are rejected by their families of origin are taking in by other families when we talk about the intersection between one's identity sexual identity and And mental illness. You know in the first place there are. The people would have had mental illness anyway. Because it's pretty evenly distributed across the population but in general depression in particular results from the intersection of genetic 'vulnerability and triggering circumstances and the.

"Again, this guy who almost got 30 goals two years ago. So he knows how to school the goal is to jerk yourself in those spots more and more consistent rate. Cuz I think they'd rather him, you know score every couple of games than you know, have three and four games and then all of a sudden he doesn't have a goal in 14 games. It's just kind of evening out that production a little bit for him. So that is that. Those are my three you still have one left correct reading the last yeah, and I'm going with Charlie McAvoy getting legitimate Norris Trophy and consideration which I think again, it's a tough kind of gig to be in because there's a lot of very very talented defenseman. Not only establish veteran guys have been out there but you look at hey scanning and you look at Quinn Hughes and you're a guy from UMass Lowell or whatever school was he's he's pretty good. You know, it's it's a sec. But I think you look in that component of his game and the responsibilities going to deal with this. Yeah. I mean, he's probably going to be averaging twenty four twenty five minutes a night this point right you look at the ad imagine Chris lake has the first dibs on my first powerful unit. But I'm sure McEvoy is going to get more more looks there as well. I think you know lausanne for the artist at the air but wage, I think regardless of who it's going to be a Big Mac of is going to have a lot more freedom to you know, jump up into the play to you know to be a little more creative with the pocket. I think that's going to do wonders for him cuz he can we talk about all the time of how terrible he was last year cuz he didn't score a goal even though he took more than two minutes to look at all the rest of his numbers and how good he was, you know should really give a shit. But how many goals he scored at go? He sucks. He didn't struggle until February. I got exactly so but regardless if people who, you know, take the the time to, you know, gauge guys be on goals. Sure, he'll get more goals out of the gate anyway, because he's going to be able to be more confident with the puck because I mean I think you saw him down the stretch in the regular season and during the bubble just how much of GrooVe um, and so I think with the added responsibilities again, these not going to be a guy who this was a full 82-game season. He's going to be like a 60-point guy as a defenseman, but I think his name is defensively in transition at 5 and 5, especially even if he's a guy who won't an 82-game pays. It was like thirty-five forty points. I think his values evident. I think a lot more people are picking up on that when you look at just how much he impacts a game. Exactly. No, I totally agree. I think macevoy is absolutely going to get Norris attention and you know from a poem effective. I expect him 25 to 30 in that realm, especially on that first pairing, especially with you know, a little lausanne is more mobile. I think that's a position with lausanne where you you could easily see change, you know, you can log Big John Moore go up there. You could see Grizzly go up there that can I back in nine inch..

25 14 games 60-point Charlie McAvoy Quinn Hughes 82-game three 30 goals 30 UMass Lowell McEvoy four games nine inch last year Chris lake February Norris Norris Trophy two years ago 5
