We're going to go to Matt Kim over at IGN who writes crystal dynamics has announced a new Tomb Raider game and revealed that it will be built using Unreal Engine 5. And I've seen the game during the state of unreal 2022 crystal dynamics Tomb Raider franchise general manager Dallas Dickinson, promised a quote high quality cinematic action adventure experience, but showed no gameplay or images. And didn't reveal a release window or title. Dickinson said the game is looking to quote, push the envelope of fidelity and is looking to create an experience, fans deserve from crystal dynamics and tomb raiders as a series, Tomb Raider has a series. Crystal dynamics becomes the latest major developer to move its next project to Unreal Engine 5. Other developers include the coalition and CD Projekt Red, which has already announced that the next Witcher game will be developed using Unreal Engine 5. This will be the first new mainline Tomb Raider game since shadow of the Tomb Raider, which was released in 2018. Chris dynamics is best known in recent years for rebooting the Tomb Raider series, showing us a fresh look at Lara Croft's origins in a grittier setting. In recent years, it has developed marvel's Avengers and has been assisting Microsoft's initiative studio on a reboot of perfect dark. During the 25th anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise last year, crystal dynamics director will curse. Spoke about a unifying the storylines between the reboot trilogy and the original games, where Lara Croft is a more seasoned explorer. However, Chris Lake also said crystalline X wasn't ready to announce a new game at that time. It was really did the dark and Gritty reboot. I mean, maybe I played like the first level of the first one. And I just never went back to it. And I know they're very well liked. They're all three of them, right? Three out of this one. Rise and shadow. Is that right? Yeah, that's right. You know that. And they're all on the raw held in quite high regard, aren't they? It's been a very good. Oh, really? Shadow wasn't held in high regard. Oh, okay. Is that considered the weak link in the in the triptych? It was, yes, it was. I've seen people today go around on it. But I remember it launched with a bunch of problems. And I did not vibe with it. And it was a different team. People are pointing out, yeah, and stuff like that. But it was their one. It was the one I'd asked Montreal was the main developer on it. Crystal helped, but that was when they were doing that is when Christa was really ramping up and getting ready to launch Avengers. Or at least was working on Avengers hardcore and why idols went and did shadow shadows the one that leaked off the subway. If you remember in Montreal where somebody was working on their presentation, the Montreal subway, and someone just took a photo and posted it and were like, all right, I guess that's a new one or whatever. Maybe the read I'm trying to remember because it's obviously several years back and maybe the reason I didn't get into it is because I felt like at the time there was a big trend everything was getting rebooted dark and Gritty dark and Gritty. And the Newton, the new Tomb Raider was really like direct as it was bloody. I remember that image of like tying off like her arm was all fucked up and she was like, you know, doing a, what do you call it? A fucking tourniquet. Tourniquet on it, and it was all like, oh, that's Gritty and dark and bloody and gory now and whatever. And I just kind of feel like everything's doing that right now. I don't know. I do know they are good games. And yeah, I'll play this new one. I'll tell you what, Greg. I bet it is a bunch of developers at crystal dynamics that are fucking thrilled about being able to jump off that fucking Viking funeral barge that is marvel's Avengers and get back onto a game that actually has a chance of people playing it. I told you to make fun of me in that cabin, so I have no one to blame myself. No, I mean, you're right, you're a 100% right. I'm sure I'm sure based on The Avengers reaction, many people were like, God damn it, I came to Chris and I have to make awesome. I'm a single player games. Can we do that? Of course, remember crystal is also helping out with the one and only perfect dark helping get that one up and running and doing that thing. We don't know the extent of that. And yeah, they are also working on marvel's Avengers, which of course would lead you to say, hey, I bet these guys are staffing up and guess what they are. Today, as we are going live pretty much, or yeah, I saw this, yeah, as we were going live. The one really, Jeff Ross, who was game director on days gone over at Sony Ben. It has been making podcast runs as of late talking about stuff that was going on there and Sony and that was he was the one who talked about the sales numbers for days gone and there was a brouhaha for a couple of days about it. For a number of well documented and well earned reasons. I on games cast this year in January when we did our predictions episode. One of my predictions was that Chris dynamics would announce they're working on a Tomb Raider. I think I might be putting these out of order, but I didn't give dates to them, but it would be that they would ask for working on a Tomb Raider. They would do one more major update for Avengers and then they would wind it down at some point this year and not do it. That's still my prediction and this doesn't change that. It's interesting when you read the Jeff Ross tweet quote tweeting dynamics them having California Texas and Washington and we're talking about.

A terrible year for the index. As you probably remember that was the or the financial crisis the stock market the index fund got hammered buffeted. Terrible timing right worst time to start this bet by early. Two thousand nine things. We're looking really good for the hedge fund side for ted sites. We were way ahead like what to what the market would have been down about. Forty five percent and the hedge funds were probably down but twenty five percent. So if i'm imagining two runners on the track like your runner is really kind of pulling ahead at this point. It's safe to say our runner was hadn't moved much in the market runner. Had gone backwards a few miles the next year that was a good year for buffet off of the year after that also the after that the index fund kept beating the hedge funds that stupid simple investment was better than roomfulls of really smart people where we stand now as of the end of two thousand fifteen the index is up sixty six percent the hedge funds up only twenty two percent. It's a huge jack. You're not even close. No no that's right. There is not much time left. The bet end soon december. Thirty first two thousand seventeen side. He says the only way the hedge funds could win at this point is if there is another huge stock market crash and. He says he doesn't want to see that happen. Obviously are you bummed about. Probably having lost this pet a little bit sure. Yeah you had a chance to beat warren buffett with the odds in my favour and play out the way i thought it. Would you thought the odds were in your still think. The odds were my favorite. He actually says he would take the bet again if he could. If you could go back to two thousand eight he says it's essentially a fluke that the stock market has done as well as it has over the past eight years. So you're saying you made the right bet. You just got unlucky. Yeah that is how i feel about it and but it's only going to win. Because he got lucky. I think he did end up on the lucky side of the distribution. Isn't it also possible that it is just very very hard to to beat the market. It's not possible. That's a truce. What's your advice to ordinary. People do not have a lot of money but want to put some of the money in the stock market I think they should index from the hedge fund side of the bet. You know like. I actually think whole position. Frankly makes make some sense like i do. Think there are some people out there who really can't beat the market. Who are not just getting lucky. Somebody's gotta be first. But you know for me when i'm deciding. What am i gonna do with my money. I don't think i can figure out who that person is. I don't think i can pick the next warren buffet. So full disclosure here get near the end of the show. I put my money in index funds. Me with the exception of the dollars in my wallet. Basically everything is in an index fund. You wanna do rant here do it all the time in your life. Yeah it drives me crazy when i'm talking to a friend or someone party and they're like my mom knows how to pick stocks she knew. It feels worse than isolating and not having to deal with that. And i think that's why a lot of us who struggled with mental health issues will just pull pull away. Fear that when i share my experience of childhood sexual abuse that somebody's not going to believe me are. They're going to ask a question. This is going to be a new change in my life. And i just basically sat myself up to that. They weren't going to accept me and that was really difficult for me to do. But they did. My mother-in-law but i know i'm lucky in it doesn't happen to every single. Lgbtq bliss get especially from communities of color. But that was a conversation that i thought it was going to come out of defeated not having occurrences for anymore. But that's when the most loved because you remember what felt like in your body when you got the hug. Kiss and the acceptance yeah. I literally got the chills. I saw like. I dunno fell out of this world is because it was something that really impacted my mental health. Bring up in slow. And i feel like i was labeled game before i was actually will to admit it for myself and that impacted me because it's like all my all my classmates were pointing fingers. He's gay he's gay. And i didn't even know what being gay was at that point. Mind you. I was like in elementary middle school. But the fact that i was able to do that with my parents have their support. One hundred percent meant the world to eat and acting. Today often informs about how i perceive my life like was saying even now like when you go into these spaces at scary because you have to come out again or you have to share some pieces of your soaring You never know how.
