Super excited, Thor is back. We last saw him in Avengers Endgame where he heads off into the galaxy into the universe with the Guardians of the Galaxy, but we find him now in this new film Thor: Love and Thunder finding that he needs to help his people on new Asgard that's back on earth. There's a character by the name of gore the God butcher that says God's must die. And so he's going after all the gods. And he needs to get back to his people. He needs to help the asgardians. Taking the children. You don't take the kids. And so that leads into this amazing new adventure called Thor: Love and Thunder. All of our returning cast is back. Chris Hemsworth, you have to have him. Natalie Portman, AKA Jane foster, if you've seen some of the reviews already, there's a lot of humor, something for everybody in this. And you're gonna need it because there's a very heavy part of the storyline as well. So it's well balanced and also surprising Russell Crowe as the Greek God Zeus. It's a fun ride. It's four love and thunder. So this is the ex-girlfriend, is it The old ex-girlfriend. Judy foster, Jane foster, the one that got away in one that got away. That means a skate here. Yeah. Must be hard for you to see your ex-girlfriend and your ex hammer hanging out and getting on something. Well, joining us live on Skype with her review Washington Post film critic and Hornaday, great to have you back and thank you so much. Thank you, Sean. So all the marvel movies are known for their humor. Interspersed along with the action scenes and the romance and such. But it does this one maybe venture into the comedy genre and does it work here? I was a big fan of Thor: Ragnarok as were many, many people take a Waititi's take on Thor and Thor is a comic character, is one of the most lovable, especially as Chris Hemsworth plays him. He just plays him with such a wink and self mocking cheerfulness and it's really, really hard to resist his charms. But I do think by now it started to wear a little bit thin and even though I am all for jokes and humor when it comes to these comic book movies, sometimes think they take themselves way too seriously. There's kind of this fine line between a welcome irreverence and then that kind of constant self mocking tone that can get a little bit can get a little tiresome. And I have to say, it's beginning to feel that way for me. This one kind of wears out its welcome a little bit a little bit too much. Now, I will say there's a really hilarious, there's some great supporting performances here. Including one by Russell Crowe that will kind of leave your mind a little bit blown. So there's that. We'll hang it all on Russell Crowe then. There is also a new documentary about what many people would call one of the moving and most moving songs ever, really, hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. This film is called Leonard Cohen a journey a song. Wow, almost two hours of movie here on just one song, right? Yeah. Demetrius is fascinating. The filmmakers have used the anthem hallelujah as sort of a lens to explore Cohen's life and his career and his artistic endeavor his spiritual search. And of course, we know hallelujah has just taken on a life of its own. Interestingly, this movie explores how he came to write it. It took him 8 years to write this song. At one point, it ballooned into more than a 150 verses. He agonized over it. It was his Magnum Opus only to end up on an album that his label did not release because they didn't like it. Then it was picked up by Bob Dylan and John KO and Jeff Buckley and of course by the cartoon Shrek and then it just sort of took on this kind of runaway train pop culture status that we're still living with. So this movie explores all of that. Gratifyingly, really using Cohen's own words, there's a lot of taped interviews taped material of just his beautiful beautiful Melissa was speaking voice explaining how he came to write it, what it meant to him. And I wish they had been a little bit more skeptical about the after effects of the song. I'm one of those people who thinks it should never be performed again, at least for another 20 years. But just the chance to be with the genius Leonard Cohen, you know, for a couple of hours, revisit his life, his work, his beautiful, beautiful music. And that's incredible because it means that if you live in a really conservative part of the country, you can find people on TikTok on Instagram on YouTube who are just like you and you can feel normal and you can feel seen in an area where you don't have anybody in your real life who knows what it's like to be you. What scares me about it being on social media is that people start to talk about it and they start to talk about it more. They start to talk about it more. This is all great. But the social media you see is not an accident. The social media that you see is because of an algorithm that exists inside of whatever platform you're on that says Becky likes content about Chris Hemsworth. When she scrolled by a post from Chris Hemsworth, she slowed down, she read it, she liked it. Oh, okay, maybe she likes Chris Hemsworth. Few more posts. Oh, Becky slow down and looked at a picture of Chris Hemsworth. Again, she must really like Chris Hemsworth. So the algorithm says, we're going to make sure that we always show Becky, Chris Hemsworth photos. And in fact, the algorithm is so smart, but not only are we going to show Becky Chris Hemsworth photos. I wonder if she likes other members of the Marvel Universe, right? So now we're going to see if she likes Paul Rudd. Oh, she did like Paul Rudd. So we'll serve her more of that. Oh, let's see if she likes Doctor Strange. Oh, you know, she didn't really click on Doctor Strange. Okay, she's not that into him. Let's see who else. And it just keeps trying to feed you, content that it thinks you like, right? It's not a human being. It's a computer. It's seeing what you like and it's serving you more of it because the way social media makes money is that you stay on the platform for as long as possible. This feels potentially dangerous when you consumed content about anxiety, right? So you see one post, you're like, oh, that's really cool. I really appreciate that this celebrity is being honest about their struggle, right? And then you slow down and you read it and it was a thing. And then a few posts later, oh, here's another one. This is my friend, and they're struggling. They're talking about it. And the algorithm now has been triggered to pay attention to what you consumed. So you're getting more and more, and not only are you getting more, but then potentially maybe you post about having anxiety. You tell the world. This is the thing that I have, right? And then now you've talked about it, you've consumed it, and it spreads like wildfire. Not because people don't have it. They certainly do. But because you talked about it because you consume it, you make it more of a thing, right? So I have in my life a lot of gen Z I literally had to look it up. A lot of, yeah, I have a lot of Gen Z people in my life. So a lot of millennials, I'm an older millennial. So a lot of millennials and then a lot of I want to say kids, they're not kids. Young adults in their early 20s who are and even teenagers, either family members, Friends, people on my team at work, I just have a younger crew of people around me. And so they are the reason I am making this podcast because I am seeing their anxiety go out of control. And I've been trying to figure out, wait, why is it so much worse? For their generation and I really think it's because, along with all sorts of other crap, forget the fact that your entire life, social media has existed. So you've always had a million examples of all the things you're supposed to be and do and live up to. And I can't even imagine how anxious that might make you. But if you're feeling those emotions and you're consuming content and other people are talking about it, it's what you see, right? And if all of your Friends are also seeing it and all of your Friends are also feeling it, yes, don't get me wrong. There's a beauty in that because you can be honest about how you're feeling, you can find community you can get help. That's great. But here's the thing and maybe not with everyone, but with the Gen Z people in my life, everyone talking their anxiety. Isn't really prompting them to get help. Everyone talking about their anxiety is making them feel more anxious. And not only are they feeling more anxious, but the fact that every single person that they know has anxiety makes them believe that feeling.

We have to continue to educate the other races on. Hey which you think is not a thing as not affecting you. It's our reality and to be honest. I think we've made good strides educating other races on systematic racism and things of that nature discrimination all that good stuff I think we gotta continue to do that now. There aren't going to be people who could care less about that. And those are probably some of the people that are still celebrating taking a l. Trying to leave the country but The least we can do is at least try to bring them to the table and they get into at least try to understand. Open there too to well said as well set by everybody on the cast and we wouldn't be doing justice if we didn't say something about it and I'm glad we got that out there and You know. I just appreciate every everybody's pain and thoughts on this for sure all right so in this section we're going to spend a little bit of time with radio show at the movies which movie review segment so in his first two clips. I don't like the fact that they're playing video games. And that's a symbol for releasing time right now games. They're playing fortnight right. Although although the rock man whose name i can't remember he's great. Earn cord is good looking back director from thoroughly voice over for that is he is he is. He doesn't really good job. he's breaking. Cracking beer is against storm breaker. I he's just like it's really sad but again it's played for laughs like you're supposed to chuckle at at depressed. Thor and man. It's not funny you know and it really does smack of kind of jokey would made ten years ago. "So This is the mad max fury road. Prequel that will focus on shirley's their titular character From that movie except she won't be reprising her role. It will be on you taylor. Joy playing a younger version of the character And today there was a big press conference down in australia with director. George miller and new franchise star. Chris hemsworth announcing that they would be shooting the movie in australia next year. And this follows in the footsteps of mad. Max fury road which Shot some of the movie in australia but got held up a little bit with some weather issues when some heavy rain ended up turning one of their desert landscapes into a little bit more of a a lush green scape. They weren't so they had to move production to namibia to finish the movie instead. It's funny actually. Initially george miller said that he was planning on shooting a sequence in australia this summer in june because they wanted to take advantage of the higher tax incentives that they were offering and it was anticipated that they were going to be. Some legislation passed that would reduce the tax incentives next year. So i guess they wanted to get this big expensive sequence out of the way soon they had Had vehicles ready. And we're ready to do like stunt performer forms and stuff but now that the legislation isn't pulling back on those tax incentives they can hold off and they're waiting to shoot everything next year.

I must say. I know she's lying to me but i'm going to let it go because i'm too damn tired to try to figure this out. And if she wants to go do something stupid on her end. That's her life. that's her marriage. that's her situation. But for me. I feel like yes i would always keep that in the back of my head but the difference is if i already have evolved a relationship with you we already have a past of you an i not getting along. I already have that in the back of my head. I can just keep our surface relationship going and just know you might be lying to thirty percent of the time. And i just keep that keep and record off check and i'll just use it if i need it. Isn't there a little bit. I don't know. I feel like i try to get my friends a little bit of grace like sometimes you. "Guys it's my d-. I work with amy on the bobby bones show. I'm a head writer and producer over there and also have a podcast in my own called movie. Mike's movie podcast or all. I do is talk about movies. I explore movie topics. i do. Movie reviews and sometimes bring on actors and directors to talk about their movies. So what i wanted to bring to. This episode is my holiday watching movie guide so i have five different categories with five different movies. You can add to your watching playlists. I know it's only november. But i feel like we've pretty much gone straight into christmas holiday mode right now so these are some great movies to go ahead and put on your list in the first category. Let's go with the favorite old school classic. And i'm to have to give it to the original. Og christmas movie. A christmas story from nineteen eighty-three. It's a movie. Probably all grew up watching and at this point we can kind of just have it on in the background and it just gives us that christmas feeling. They're just so many classic moments in classic quotes from this. A christmas story also had the eighty nine percent rating on rotten tomatoes. It's not available to stream anywhere right now but if you want to rent it. It's on amazon for three ninety nine. And then if you have cable subscription service you can usually catch it on pbs or stream. It their on demand. And i feel like when it comes to having a classic. You can't go wrong with the christmas story. Only i didn't say fudge. I said the word the big one. The queen mother of dirty words dash dash dash next up. I had the category of the best modern classics. So i feel like this is a movie been around long enough but it's still relatively new and it's a movie now. That actually came out seventeen years ago. So i feel like it's so far stood the test of time and i don't really seeing any point to where this movie will not be a part of my christmas and if you haven't seen it at this point well i don't know what you're waiting for. I don't know where you've been in the movie. I'm talking about is l. It has eighty four percent rating on rotten tomatoes. It's currently not available to watch anywhere for free but you can read it on amazon for three ninety nine and if you happen to have a stars direct tv subscription you can watch it there. And the thing. I love about this movie that everybody i talked you kind of has their own favourite part of the movie. My favorite part is when buddy the elvis. I leaving to go find his dad and he's saying goodbye to everybody to hope you find your dad. Thanks in our wall. All right the next category is the unconventional christmas movie. I think every year people had a debate on what is an isn't a christmas movie. Several different movies kind of fit into this category. But one i feel that kinda gets left out in the discussion. Every year is harry potter. And the sorcerer's stone now all throughout the harry potter series. I feel like christmas is a pretty big part of it. And not only that. But i feel like christmas scenes. In harry potter are just some of the most magnificently done christmas. Any christmas movie. And i don't know why they get left out of that conversation. The bad thing about the harry potter movies is they are pretty much taken off of any kind of streaming service and you can really only rent them on amazon for three ninety nine but the first one does have eighty one percent rating on rotten tomatoes. If you haven't seen it yet. And i know overall christmas is pretty small. Part of the entire franchise. But harry potter at one point does get the visibility cloak as a christmas gift and therefore i'm dubbing get a christmas movie christmas happy christmas next category. I wanna do favorite rated r. movies. So this is christmas louise for adults so kids. If you're listening you can't watch these movies and parents. I feel like these were made for. Maybe some of us. Who don't necessarily enjoy christmas movies. And just want something to make you laugh. That just has a little bit of christmas in it. Because i know sometimes christmas movies get a little bit cheesy and my all time. Favorite rated r. christmas movie is bad. Santa it literally makes me laugh out loud. And i know it's incredibly rajini incredibly inappropriate. But i love billy bob thornton and even in the crudeness and the rudeness of this movie i do feel like it has a lot of heart and if he can get through the dirty jokes and the bad language you do find a pretty nice christmas story here and bad. Santa has a seventy eight percent rating on rotten tomatoes. And as of right now you would have to pay to ninety nine to streaming on amazon. But i know once it gets closer to christmas. It has popped up on netflix. Maybe check for it. There later was gonna make some sandwiches. I could make you one before you leave. Okay maybe some sandwiches harshest. You want the usual amount. Just whatever you think. Okay right in the last category. I want to get to is a favourite new christmas movie. And i'm gonna go with the holiday. Would you can watch now on net flicks and a little bit of a warning. It is kind of raunchy and crude. Just like the bad santa movie but if you're into movies like bridesmaids or the hangover i feel like it's kind of in that category so it's emma roberts and luke bracy who is australia and he's kind of like the kmart version of chris hemsworth and they come up with this plan to be each other's dates for only the holidays. So let's be only time they ever get together so it starts at christmas goes through all the holidays in the united states and then ends up back at christmas and if you guessed at home that they ended up developing feelings for each other throughout this plane to be each other's holiday. Will you guessed correctly but again. That doesn't spoil. The movie is basically in the trailer. And it's basically what every kind of cheesy romantic comedy. Christmas movie plot is about. But i think overall this movie just makes you kind of turn your brain off and enjoy a nice holiday movie. And isn't that what we all need right now. 'Men in Black: International' Struggles to Find Its Place in the Universe
"Out, Ryan. It's been long awaited men in black international. Yeah. Long-awaited is right, dis movies, usually, take a while to get to the feeder. And this is the first one gotten since men in black three in two thousand twelve obviously say continuation of the franchise that started with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones all the way back in nineteen Ninety-seven, of course, this time around, we don't have either of them. I think if you attention you might see their framed photos show up in one scene. But this time the action is centered in the London branch of which is run by Liam Neeson's, high t-, Tessa Thompson is a rookie agent agent age, who is teamed up with kind of a full of himself, slacker agent, m who is played by Chris Hemsworth. They have to basically uncover a mole in the organization y. While at the same time prevent an alien threat from getting their hands on a powerful weapon. So you know it's pretty standard stuff. There aren't particularly any clever plot elements and it kinda plays out exactly as you might expect it to, you know, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson had great chemistry together and four. Ragnarok, they seem to be having fun here. But it doesn't quite compared to that movie still. It's probably one of the few bright, spots, otherwise typical Sifi blockbuster. The supporting cast is great has 'em Thomson. You know, Camille, non Johnny and Rebecca Ferguson. They offer their voices, two two different alien characters kinda steel seems at they're in that a lot of this feels way to millier and kind of not quite inventive enough to sort of justify extending the franchise, so it's not doing very well at all with the critics. It's currently at twenty six percents. I personally think that's a little bit low because I still think it's kind of fun world to be in. So if you feel the same way, it'll probably be decent time killer. But I wouldn't go in there expecting like a huge revitalization of the franchise. Yeah. That's kind of disappointing from my vantage point, I was ten when the first one came out and I love and I still like that movie. But yeah, there were definitely some diminishing returns as the franchise went on. And I was hoping that this would sort of be a reset that there would be something good. Yeah. I mean, I think a lot of people were hoping for that, especially with the involvement. I mean, the two stars Chris Henderson has Thomson everybody thought okay? This is going to be so Ragnar off to in a sense, and it's not quite that. I think the, the director is f Gary gray who's done with me. No heated the most recent fast and furious movies and the Italian job, so you've got some, you know, action under his belt. But for some reason, he just can't quite manage the tone of this one properly, I think, but again, I still think it's kind of a fun movie to watch. So I mean if you're into that world into that universe, I wouldn't necessarily Ryan, would you say it's one of those things we talked about this before where you have. A whole lot of critic saying. You know I just can't give it a thumbs up. It's not terrible, but it ends up being a negative review which against it. It's not like so when you see twenty five or twenty six percent it's everybody's saying this is terrible. Stay away. It's just it's. All right. Yeah. I definitely think that that's the case with this one. I think a lot of people feel extremely lukewarm. I mean, don't get me wrong. There's a fair share of people who saw this and thought it's really bad. Oh, okay. There's definitely a handful of critics thought. Oh, this is the worst in the franchise. But, you know, I think the, the average score is four point five out of ten so that might tell you something. Okay.

And okay about the amount of time. I've spent thinking about this these movies and seeing these movies over the years, I think is really telling listen to you and Mallory talk about it because being a little bit older. I think that I don't quite have like deep passionate connection to it. It's not like a real maker break franchise for me in the way, some some others are, but at the end of the day, I felt like you guys pulled it off. You get you made it emotionally satisfying finales to what was pretty unprecedented endeavor in movie making history, and they made it work Mana. Yeah. I thought it was a fitting conclusion to this experiment for better. And for worse in some ways. It it certainly there was a little bit of everything for everyone, including. Me. I mean, the last show I was delighted I wouldn't say I was like crying or deeply moved. But it's very excited to see Hayley Atwell back into seek cap. I frankly old cap be very happy. And also, I thought pretty handsome for like a really old guy. It'll head ahead. And then yeah, that's true. They didn't age the hair. And I thought that nice. I thought the last shot was very sweet and was kind of going back to many of the themes that we talked about in our podcast about captain America the first venture. And some of the things that I felt the MC you had abandoned. And so I felt seen in that moment, which is not something that I often feel in these movies, it took three hours and a lot of garbage CGI to get there. So, you know, and, but I think other people delighted that we're delighted by that. And so again, there is something for almost everyone in these movies. And that's kind of what the experiment was about. Right. Yeah. Definitely. And you know, in the Morville months years that we did on the show in a you. And I talked about captain America. The first of. Injure. Chris unite talked about the avengers both of the things the key talking points that we talked about in those podcasts really rose to the surface on this one. You know in your in your case, it was how halio wells the most important person in the MC. You Chris for you. It was quite literally that Tony stark is the most important person, the AFC, this was a genuine sendoff. Yeah. I don't I don't think we'll be seeing Tony again. And it was interesting the way that they built him into the not just the centerpiece of the story, not just the emotional center of the story. But like the engine of the story, and I think when we talked a few weeks ago, you were saying that you're not so sure that they're going to be able to do this as actively without him. I think they're staring to an abyss. And I think they might dive in and the this is called Disney. Plus, you know, I think that the the way that we're going to be talking about these movies in ten years United texting over the weekend. And I was like, oh, should I read this comic line to kinda see where it's going or read the story line? And you basically were like here's what's going to happen in in ten years. We'll be talking about this so called to be friends with Sean. No, I think he sent the text and there are some. These are anti spoilers over here. Also. But he's like, I he sends tech. Sometimes I'm just saying we're gonna join but this. This one was like, wow. That sounds incredibly plausible. And it would take about ten years to get. You know what I mean? And but for me, you lose stark, you probably you're gonna lose Evans unless they graduate Evans too kindly, uncle who shows up somehow in some of the other movies. And I think they're going to take the characters that were remaining with the exception of Black Panther, captain marvel in the guardians. A lot of them are going to move to streaming a lot like Sebastian STAN, anti Mackie. They're going to streaming LOKI streaming Wanda envision explicable or going to streaming. So like a lot of these characters are now going to be on these little five episode little mini runs. And I think that they have a charm problem. Now, I think that there is going to be a little bit of a like we need to work to like build up some of these people again, and that will probably come with the characters that you were talking about. But it's gonna take them a few years to develop those projects, you're there's two ways to do that. I think it's evident to me. And I guess we'll see when Spiderman far from home comes out. But they do have a centerpiece in Tom, Holland that was the loudest cheer. I heard both times. I saw the movie that was the person that people were most emotionally connected to and that is the legacy of Downie Downey made that character very meaningful to a lot of people. You know, they they created that father son dynamic, so I could see that effectively being the new iron man of the series. The other stuff is is a little bit up in the air. You know, it's like I feel like the one thing we can kind of all agree on is that they really just handled Chris Hemsworth beautifully over the last five years. Summer Movie Preview
"The movies of summer twenty nineteen. What is out there? What's going to happen? And I've got to start by saying you think maybe that summer begins on your calendar near the end of June. But not in Hollywood everything in Hollywood begins early because summer is when they make all the money that they can make all year. So officially April twenty six it's the beginning of summer because the movie that opens on that day is called a ventures endgame. This is three hours long. Nobody's gonna care. I predict that not only will this be the biggest box office hit of the summer, but it will be the biggest box office hit of the year. You remember what happened last time all the ventures or at least half of them seem to turn to dust than die mean? Now have those ventures that are left to signing if they can beat the evil fan. He so evil will the adventures be wiped out forever. Look how much money did these movies make I'm saying why would you basically kill the golden goose? This is going to continue in some way, we all know it. So what else is out there? I'm looking at my list. There's a major thing going on now of in terms of taking the Disney slash Pixar animated classics and turning them into live action movies. So we have The Lion King line king. One of the most successful Disney animated movies ever is now being done as a live action movie. You have Donald Glover being Simba. You have James Earl Jones actually being this father and the same scores. They're the same using. And it's directed by John Fabbro who did such a great job with the jungle book doing the same thing that I think we can all feel optimistic about what's going to happen. And then we have Aladdin when we remember the. Animated movie who do we remember the most? We remember Robin Williams doing the voice of the genie. This time doing the voice of the genie and being the genie. We have Will Smith. So big stars in this big kind of thing, they tried it with Dumbo earlier this year, and that didn't quite work the way they wanted to do. But we're talking about lying king and the Ladan so big deal. Now, what terms of old fashioned animation is out there. I don't know if you're like me. But there's a Toy Story four toy stories always been my favorite of those Pixar. There's something about Woody and buzz light year, and you're probably saying to yourself. Well, and Toy Story three didn't it happen. That would he said goodbye, Andy. And he went to college, and it was all over remember. There was little Bonnie Andy gave his toys too. So we're going to have little Bo peep comeback. I think when you look at what goes on in Toy Story, you have that kind of feeling of goodness of field. Goodness, but done with all the magic of Pixar. So if those adventures out there are going to have a run for their box office money. I would say Toy Story. Four is going to be the one that does it. So what else we now have men in black men in black international? You're not gonna see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones anymore. But this time you have Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. As new agents who are out there in this men in black universe. Sometimes you say to yourself do I want more of that? And you never know to actually see it. And I can only tell because I haven't seen this movie yet. But it looks like there's chemistry there. Then we have Spiderman far from home. You know, the Spiderman franchise never seems to end either. But we have Tom Holland who played him last time charmingly, I think, but now spider man, Peter Parker. They're taking a European vacation and the villain that they run up against is mysterious. Played by Jake Jilin. All I just think they're still some special sauce in the Spiderman universe, and I expect this one to also be a major hit. Godzilla Godzilla king of the monsters. I see that. And I go how much can they work this poor God's, but you can look at the trailer and see it. I like the idea that aside from viewer for Megan who is in it, Billy Bobby Brown from stranger things is in its she the dynamo. So if God Zillah can basically meet his match betting on little Millie to do something with that Hobbes and Shaw, this is fast and the furious you remember the rock of playing the the law man, and Jason stefon playing the outcast and the rebel these guys. I don't know if this is Hollywood kind of thing, but they tell us that Jason stadium and the rocked wing Johnson. Don't really like each other. And maybe that what the reason we love these characters and show so much because we liked that conflict. I don't know it seems a PR stunt to me, but I'm going to be there because this cars. There's the rock and their Stefa. So you're going to be there to and you know, it, oh and the big deal. Now, everybody has just in the midst of welcoming game of thrones back to their lives. The last season of that. You can't bear to live in a world where you can't see the stark sisters anymore. Well, now, you can dark Phoenix, which is part of the X men universe. Bring Sophie Turner, and she's Jean grey this character that we've seen before. But she's this younger version of her and she split between the good side of her and the dark Phoenix side of her. And to me, these girls are tremendously talented in what they do on game of thrones. And I think we're going to keep seeing them through the years, but her sister her at least game of thrones sister, maisy Williams is in new mutants part of that universe too. But in this case, they're all new characters to do this. They're all gonna be in the X men universe. Doing it. So that's it for the blockbusters that are out there. You've got everything from animation to comic book characters to everything. And that's the stuff that you hear about that your friends are going to talk to you about. But there's gotta be other stuff to part of summer is comedy of. I think we all really have gone through a long winter. And we're saying make us laugh give us something that will just make say, whatever. I can just sit back and not think. So what's there for that? There's a movie called longshot. This is a movie in which Charlotte Theran is playing the secretary of state who is running for president. But falling Manley in love with who staff throw in. Okay. It's like, a beauty and the beasts thing going on here. Seth Rogan is her speechwriter all of her people say what are you doing? You're going to destroy your career. But no, it's love. And if you don't laugh at the combination of Seth Rogan, Charlie staring. There's nothing left for you. And then we have the hustle. The hustle is a movie that used to be called dirty run scoundrels where the old days it was about conman. Now, it's con- women. They're played by Anne Hathaway and rebel Wilson. And they basically go all cross the continent finding rich people whose money they can steal pretty people. Glamour? What's wrong with that? Oh, book smart. This is directed by the actress Olivia Wilde, and it's about girls graduating from high school and saying we spent all our lives with our head in the books. Everybody else is going to parties and having fun. So they're going to do that beanie Feldstein plays one of them. She is the sister of Jonah hill and real life and Jona hill did super bad. This is kind of the women's version of super bad everything in it works, like a charm. You're really going to like that one. Then we have a movie called late night. This is about the TV talk show world and Emma Thompson plays. Probably the only woman on late night TV who hosts her own show, but she's got only men on her writing staff, and then she hires Mindy Kaeling who also wrote the screenplay of this movie, very very funny about what happens when you put women into what basically has been. A male bass they end of doing this. And the combination of Mindy king writing for the great Emma Thompson and watching them perform together is just so you've got to see that one to my favorite kind of thing. The dead. Don't die. You've got to admit that is a great and funny title. It comes from the indie, directing great, Jim Jarmusch. And it's cut people like Bill Murray and Adam driver by zombies. Okay. If Bill Murray is going to go out there and get laughs. Sizing up zombies. I'm going to be there watching him do it. So we have a good chance for laughs horror. I've got to talk about it now because it's not just the Cajun. Oh movie harm movie that makes money any makes people talk and get happy. It's they're everywhere. Now child's play do you? Remember the old child's play movies where you had Chucky. The crazy nut doll that. Always terrified me. Just. This doll who looks kind of little bit weird and freckly, but he has a voice on him like a longshoreman guess who's doing the west now of Chucky Marquel? Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker. And from what I've seen of it in. It's just been a little bit of it. It's wonderfully malevolent, so I'm going to be there to see that one. Then there's Annabel comes home. Another doll another possess doll also part of the conjuring universe where a viewer for Megan Patrick Wilson. Or the demon knowledge is that tried to make sure that nothing bad can come of this horrible doll Annabelle, but Bill will destroy and I will be there to watch her. Do it then them that follow their certain titles that get me them that follow really gets me? And it's about a snake handling church in Appalachia. No, they there are there colts. And they're almost religious cult where people pray. But they have the snakes, and they hold the life thinks pass them on. And you're thinking, what are you tell me about this like CD movie Har movie will guess who the star of this movie is the freshly minted Oscar winner Ogilby Coleman from the favourite, she's tossing those snakes around so irresistible. I think you're gonna love it. Then there's the Nightingale. See it's does not stop. It's har- everywhere. The night and gas from the director, Jennifer Kent who did a thing a couple of years ago called the baba Duke, which gave millions of people nightmares. And now she's back there following a woman who is chasing a convict got to be hooked. And then midsummer midsummer directed by REI Astor who last year gave us hereditary with Toni Collette, a really scary movie. Now, it's at a nine day Swedish holiday where everybody celebrates. But they'll be no celebrating after this one. So we. Got a lot of stuff out there. That's just going to scare us witless. And I couldn't be happier. All right. When summer comes. We think of all the things I've just talked to you about blockbusters comedy horror action, the rock of everything is there, but every even in a season like this. It's all about money and getting us into our theater, there are those movies that can come out entertain us. And also will hear about them at the end of the year when the Oscar nominations come out and the number one movie on that list, and the one that I haven't seen anything of India's of anyone that saw even anything past the trailer is called once upon a time in Hollywood it is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino its stars in order to Capri, oh as a TV star on the wane in Los Angeles. Netflix Sets Title for ‘Haunting of Hill House’ Season 2 – Which Is Definitely Not About Hill House (Video)
"The hunting of hill house season two is in development. And we now know what it is going to be about Chris tell us about it. Yeah. There have been rumors that Netflix was interested in a second season. And at the time, it seemed kind of unlikely because the first season of he'll house wraps everything up pretty well and adapts one book and so on and so forth. But now we know there is a second season and rather than taking a traditional approach, Mike, Flanagan and Netflix. They're gonna turn it into an anthology series sort of similar to what AMC is doing with the terror. So each season is going to be a new story and while the first season adapted. Shirley Jackson's the haunting pill house season two will be adapting Henry James's the turn of the screw. Which is another classic ghost story. It's been adapted into a film into films. If you times before the innocence is probably the best example of this, very spooky black and white are movie. And this is really cool. I'm very excited. This I loved the haunting hill house per season. And I really liked turn of the screw. I think Mike Flanagan is very talented and undis- gonna assume because this is what I hill house. Did it's going to take a lot of liberties with the book because he'll house only really took like names in certain ideas, and then created its its whole like new thing. And I'm guessing that's what they're gonna do with this as well if they're taking that many liberties, why do they even need something to adapt with the second season. I mean, you know, there's brand recognition. I guess I guess it's also like a framework. Work because he'll house it borrowed ideas and frameworks stuff from the book. And I'm guessing this is gonna take that singer a framework where turn a screw it's about a governess who is hired to watch over to orphans, and she becomes convinced. The the mansion she's washing them in is haunted and the kids could see them. But at the same time, the book is very ambiguous in that. Maybe there aren't really go species. Just crazy. So I'm guessing they're going to use that formula where there's a woman who thinks house is haunted, but maybe she's nuts. That's what I'm guessing. They're going to use that as a springboard to create something new Jakup. I know you were a huge fan of this first season. What do you think of this news? Yeah. The first season's phenomenal. Mike Flanagan is phenomenal. I love this idea. I have not read the turn of the screw by have seen the innocence. And I feel that we have this idea the older horror films aren't scary. There could be spookier interesting. But the innocence is scary it holds up as a genuinely unsettling go story. Even though it's my God. Six years old now. So it's I'm very excited by this idea of with funding did in extent what Chris said is he took what Shirley Jackson was with the hanging Phil house and took two Matic core. And built it out in ways that were more personal to him or person was writing staff and transform those ideas into something that was passionate and personal to him as a storyteller. So like, I'm taking this. This very different goes story with very different ideas. And you know, remixing through his lens in the style of the first season that is incredibly exciting. And I am all for more. Great anthology driven hard to sounds like it's such. It's such a great idea to get more cool go stories in front of right
