"Doubt about it plenty of fins fans like art you know but I'm stoked that too is headed to the sunshine state for the fins to untangle by lower nose will play next year just doesn't know when the dolphins selecting the fifth overall in Thursday's draft might he wait until twenty twenty one to play again coming back not major hip injury that doctors have indicated he's on schedule to return this year the interest Chris Greer said the dolphins comfortable with his health despite the long injury history about NFL live Tim Hasselbeck rex Ryan on Miami landing too if you're assuming that tool was healthy I don't think it was all that close you know part of what happens when guys get drafted it's it's based on what they've done but also what they project to be so you know for too well when you watch him play at Alabama there is so much you know conceptually you know what they were doing a lot of them others you can see translates but I was real footballers you can see him doing those things well obviously he did it a look strangely high level the concern is the injury but when you look at Burke I think the concern ends up being that you're facing a lot of them on potential a lot of it on what can be not necessarily what he has you know what he accomplished as a player in fact I thought he was held back a little bit as a player it's not a word offense so yeah I am when you look at it that way if you're making the assumption that the Miami Dolphins doctors were fine with his health but I think it was an easy decision well you know what Tim I don't disagree that when you watch too as a player I mean you gotta sit back like wow this is a no brainer could be him and Joel Barlow in the conversation however to justice yes these injuries it's not just a hip injury it's every single injury and that's certainly something to consider as we look into the future for the dolphins under center more draft coverage on the flip side as we focus on the White House and how did Jerry Jones grab perhaps the best one in the draft that in Georgia coach Kirby smart share some interesting in feedback he's received about the Southeastern Conference in their brand of football that's next this is ESPN radio.

"Yeah and it's hard for us to sit here and you know we're fans we cover the team and we do as much research as we can but at the end of the day you know not even the beat writers in Miami. Have any idea what the dolphins are going to do. And that's a good thing you know people were given our Mondo crap. Because he said you know the dolphins interest interest in Justin. Herbert you know. I think it was a Adam Beasley. Some the other reporters said they liked Jordan. Love you know you keep hearing every quarterback that the dolphins like you know it's too it's it's Jordan. Love it's Herbert. You know it's it's too low. It's every quarterback could possibly be available at five. And I think at the end of the day they will have to trade up and I know people don't like to hear that but at the end of the day I think to a ton of I lo- as much as he's progressing along if he hits at April ninth and he goes out there and throws for teams. I do think they're going to have to trade up and whether or not they do that. I think that's kind of a whole different discussion because I don't know if you saw her. Mom does article today. A lot of people kind of game crat but know. It doesn't really come down to how the team feels reach out to those doctors and he mentioned you know the drew brees situation. You know he mentioned a couple of other situations where the doctors just weren't confident enough for just weren't able to say no confidently that he is going to be at this point next season so it's a lot of projection and. I think we need to realize that you know does Chris Greer Brian. Flora's hinge their career on a guy that you know might not ever be the same in net. Hurts me to say it but I'm being completely honest. We don't know if two of those ever going to be the same quarterback that we want saw but even if he becomes seventy five percent of that what we saw on that Lsu game. That's a guy that I believe can be. The future. Franchise quarterback can be a future top ten quarterback in the NFL. Not Top five. And you said it best. The dolphins had the best situation. They traded Josh Rosen last year. He was a second round pick. They basically they pay for him. So That's how I view him. He is a second round. Pick twenty three years old. His contracts peanuts Ryan Fitzpatrick not going to be around forever. We know the Braun Chan Gailey. Perfect you know. He had his best season under Changli. Whatever you know Fitzpatrick here. It's not gonna be that way for forever. You bring a low you put them on the pup list you sit out the entire season and then you finally get to see what Josh Rosen can become second year you know maybe with some consistency offense. Kunar because God knows he's never had that so there's a lot to take in here and I don't think that you can fault. The dolphins either way if they have a herbert right on par with tons of fellow Soviet. I mean that's the route. They'll go but I do think wrong quarterback and I think anybody that sits here and says they're gonNa Take Simmons. I think that's crazy. I know how a good idea simmons is. I know a good offense attack will be at that point. They're going to get a quarterback because we've seen over the last twenty years how close to getting a game changing quarterback and we can sit here and say Patrick Mahomes into Shawn Watson. That wasn't you know they didn't have a chance to those guys you know. They could've traded up for any quarterback in the last twenty years. But they didn't they had a chance at Matt Ryan the past. They had a chance to Ryan he was guy before and after that who did to the draft Brennan Dowdy. You know the pick for Josh Rosen. So they don't get in these situations often they find themselves in this situation. They gotta do what they did or the last two three years. They've done their homework on these guys. One of these guys has to be the future quarterback the Miami Dolphins. We just sit back. Relax and let it play out. Yeah and Josh Seinfeld. Do you want Seinfeld a little bit? I can't sit here and say A die hard and people are going to hate me for that. 'cause I never really gave it a chance. So there's an episode where they're talking about the word like and you know you. You mentioned the dolphins they like Herber Lake love now. It's something to keep in mind. We're talking about this and this was an episode of Seinfeld. I can't remember the exact reference but I can sit here and tell you. I like the Miami Dolphins but I can also tell you you know. I like you know drinking a beer but at the same time you know one of them. I write about all the time. One of my podcasts. About all the time one. I buy all the merchandise you know I possibly can from time to time and the other one. I have once a week twice a week So there are different levels of like and until you really get that context. I wouldn't I don't think we can put too much way too much. I guess on these different types of you know they like this guy they like you know this guy because there can be so much different levels with the word. Blake and I think that's kind of been an issue since you know. Middle School for all of us. When you like someone quarter call for the first time you know so so it's just a really tough situation really read the most adults and I think we gotta take it for what it is. Where Chris Greer in Stephen? Ross round the sideline talking to that one time at the final game of the season From last season where they were talking about two as their guy before it was even signed. You know there's been so many of these tea leaves that you kind of think about and what. I think really hopes the dolphins here and for some reason. I don't think it's being talked about. Enough is just how many different quarterbacks are going to be available. I'M NOT NECESSARILY SAYING. Just Free Agents. But for the teams like the panthers who all the sudden we got in. Kinda cross them off and I probably shouldn't use them earlier because they're looking like they're gonNa Keep Cam Newton You look at teams like the chargers who can get a veteran to come in and play instantly. Whether it's a Tom Brady. Whether it's a Ryan Tannehill. The colts are another one. They look like they're set to get Phil Rivers Any dolphins and other guy available him in New England. There's a lot of connections going on Jameis Winston Freedom. We haven't been talking about him a Forty touchdown guy Also has like Mitch Trubisky. Nick foles Joe FLACCO. Derek Carr and Jimmy G. could all possibly be on the move which I think only helps the dolphins not only solidify their spot at five but hope teams not really have that willingness to kind of fight and try to even bother trying to outbid the dolphins to move above them at because when you look at that stockpile draft picks it's going to be impossible. Yeah we didn't even mention Teddy Bridgewater. Who is going to get a pretty big deal? And you mentioned an episode of Seinfeld and mentally. I've not seen it but as much as I think. The dolphins going to draft a quarterback if just like him and I know you're trying to say like like like you know they really like him. They love him if they don't love a guy if if they don't feel confident that this guy is their quarterback of the future you do have to kick the can down the road you know as much as it pains me as much as I say. They're never in this position. If you for some reason don't think that guy or if you don't think herber lovers at guy you have to kick the can because you have to be certain that this quarterback is going to be the future quarterback of the Miami Dolphins and again. Chris hitched his wagon to him. Brian floors is great as he looked in year. One you know. Expect him to win. Any Games burs good as he looked in your one he'd be hitching his wagon to him. And you know. He's in the in the room with them. We know we saw that report where you is running defensive. He was kind of implementing a defensive game plan. There are the Auburn Pro Day. You know he's on the front line. He started out as a scout. New England so you got him you got Chris Got Reggie McKenzie and you got Marvin Allen you know Reggie McKenzie drafted Derek Carr. How'd you feel about him? Whatever he is whatever is probably trade this year more of an Allen you know. He had his hand in. Patrick mahomes handed Josh down. You know however you feel about Josh on you know these are guys at right now are doing very very well in the NFL. So you have four guys potentially with scouting experience and that's not a dimension Dan Marino. So if you can't figure out which one of these guys is your quarterback and do whatever the hell it takes to make sure he's your guy. I don't know what to tell you because you have. Fourteen draft picks you know we talk about Jonesboro being unattainable. If they've really truly believed Joe Broza next Dan Marino. They have a chance to go get him to hell with what the fans think you know if you think. Joe Bro is a guy. That's going to finally right this ship that we have not seen you know. We've been mediocre for the last twenty years. If you think job Rosette guy you move heaven and earth to make it happen it using a ton of a lowest guy regardless of whether you can predict the future you do whatever it takes again. Three second round picks is what the jets traded Up for SAM darnold. I think they moved up three spots. You know it's going to be a little more than that. But the dolphins have all these first round picks not only this year they have to next year you know they have additional picks later down the road so you have to figure out which of these guys and we know. They've done their homework. You know they've been at the Justin Herbert or gains the last two seasons they were you know doing reports on Jordan love. They were at his games before he was even draft eligible. So figure out which one of these guys is next Dan Marino. You have frigging Dan Marino there again. You have your Chris greer you have Reggie McKenzie more renown. You've Brian Floors. You have everyone at your disposable agree on somebody and do whatever the heck it takes to get him now that I just finished that soapbox tell me how you would feel about Ryan tannehill going into England. Because I've heard that rumor I think Chris Simms profootballtalk out that rumor. How how would you feel to see Ryan? Tannehill guy that you just been route four seasons go and take Tom Brady to spot New England. You can't get all fired up on me like that and now now let me give some sort of response. I heard the jazz. I try to be brief segue into the next thing but yeah okay. I'm going to defuse and let you go on your soapbox now. You mentioned them. Maybe kicking the can down the road and you know I'm never going to say I am the smartest guy I'm not going to say. I'm one of anywhere close but this is the year of the dolphins. Take their quarterback and this is I want to tell you it's to a mostly on everything we've no The the different kind of hints. We've been given the different appearances and you can't kick down the can down the road because when you think about the dolphins have right now is the fifth overall. Pick and say that. The dolphins don't like any of the guys at quarterback and then they moved on they look at next year's draft. Whoever maybe we don't even care about any of the names all the sudden you know there's two or three guys that say at the top of the draft. Let's go there's too because to in this draft that I think are a step above everyone else in. That's to enjoy borough so all of a sudden. The dolphins are at five and they have. Let's say a risky shot of getting one right because we're sitting here. Were a little nervous that that that is going to be taken from US right. Nobody or someone's going to sneak past the dolphins right under our nose and get that pick all of a sudden. The dolphins build up the roster with everything they have the pick they have next year is going to be even worse. And then you have to move heaven and earth and maybe three more planets to view farther up after. You've already invested this much near team. So I think the value with the you know. All the different quarterbacks are available right now not only in the draft but in free agency but via trade all those help just give you that little bit in terms of what's available and what you can acquire and then you think about the idea of.

Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?

"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. "But like a red zone, you got Christian Kirke, Larry FitzGerald. They're all different flavors. You have David Johnson to the point where you can kinda see as well as the guy the ultimate got Rosen's. You got a significant player at the end of the second round. Like, you have all these different flavors. I'm expecting them to be entertaining week one week two they may not be great. But I'm expecting them to be four five win type team. And if nothing else like I'm gonna wanna watch them. Yeah. And I think it's you know, it kind of reminds me of the year when we were hit with suddenly the RG three and the read option for the first time in to some degree in the NFL. And it caught the league by storm was how do you solve this? How long can it last like it is cool when you see a completely new offense to some degree hit the scene? I will say he's not a winner. Josh rosen. And it's been a rough couple months for him about as rough as you could imagine for your first full off season as a first round quarterback. He thought this would be the off season where you take charge and take hold of the team. But I will say for him being the guy that's knocked for his extra personality and being a little bit to modernize for old school coaches. I love what he did today. He didn't have to do anything. But he put out a essentially a ver video any spent the first three minutes of its thanking the cardinals thinking their coaches thanking the fans and then he went to the dolphins. You don't have to do that. He, you know, he he did everything right over the past month or so. And again, it's smart to do it. You don't have to be a genius to do it this way because it would hurt his trade value and he wanted out of town, but he went to voluntarily workouts. He went through all that practicing on the day. They drafted car, it's pretty straight. I mean he and we'll play it a little bit later. Steve Smith of NFL network absolutely destroyed Rosen yesterday on on air. Maybe we'll play it later. But I think he did pretty much everything. Right. I don't get hung up about Instagram thing. Even even went to clarify. Gerald's softball charity. Softball game scheduled for today. Leaves the nice message. And now goes the Miami fresh start. He's he's twenty two years old. He started thirteen games as as a twenty one year old. I think he has a chance to be really good. And that's why I have Chris Greer and the Miami Dolphins as a big time winner because whether Rosen works out or not I don't think you can doubt the process they used to get him. They didn't use their first round pick on him. They didn't even use their number forty eight overall pick on them. They made the cardinals. Wait it out. They traded down with the saints. They pick up a twenty twenty second round pick. And then they trade the pick for Josh Rosen. So it was almost like you got them for free. Like you're going to have that pick next year. You got them for for so little and you can evaluate him during this season. He might not be the week one starter, but he'll start at some point. And you'll be able to make a more informed decis. Vision about possibly taking a quarterback a year from now if you don't have a franchise quarterback, I think you should take a swing every year. And I'd rather have him than Haskins. I'd rather have him than Daniel Jones. Well, he'll be comfortable with the surrounding talent in Miami. Because there's a lot like last year's Arizona that that is the problem. The one thing is you would if you wanna make the case shadow shea the of coordinator from the patriots, you know, that that the kind of parcels Erhardt offense is really built around the quarterback strengths to start its guy. It's evaluating what you're gonna do before this nap after this nap it hopefully helps out a smart quarterback like Rosen, and you have Jim Caldwell there as quarterbacks coach assistant head coach is done a pretty good job with quarter the dolphins. The hope started for the dolphins. And it's no knock on Mike Tenenbaum for what he's done in general..

"Won't do business with the dolphins. And then you're looking at four at Oakland. And I think the Oakland Raiders would pounce on Marie in heartbe they might even trade of the two if he gets past him, and then we can start hearing how the dolphins are gonna trade for Derek Carr. Right. That'll be the big thing on Twitter that will be the big thing. Aren't you ready for it? Aren't you excited? Yes. The one thing we know about the NFL draft is we don't really know much at all. And that's what it's the alternate. Reality show is going to be fantastic. I cannot wait, and it's going to be one helluva party one hell of a show one hell of a weekend for the dolphins. And the other thirty two teams in the NFL. This is when people get very excited and very few people come out of drafting the team screwed it up. Although feels like in recent years dolphins may felt that way as well. What are you guys going to eat and drink tomorrow? So I asked my wife what we're having for dinner for the drought, and she just said on making chicken. Goes it's not blacklist Friday is not Friday blacklist. Obvious. We still have some work to do with her. I'm going to eat beer, and I'm going to drink beer. It's funny because I have a friend that they got me a beer. It was a game of thrones collaborative beer that one of the local breweries made it's actually blue. It's a double IPAI plan on drinking that during the dolphins pick. I will post pictures, I need to get some beer for no more. It'll be very hipster what kind of berry gonna get. You're gonna get some some duels or hills Nur's. I'm definitely not getting lighter. Anything like that? Okay. Let your star. What else I'm gonna get some IPA's Mike made. Let's let's all. Spike seltzer. Let's get four locos. Do things with red wool with red bull. Those things I swear you just black out instantly after finishing one. And then you probably thought you were dead times. If you ever had a couple. Right locos, like drinking battery acid or something. Yet. I'd never had four local. But I've heard about all the dangers of it. Go go go go tomorrow for the drafting documents tired, spirits, shaking everything hyping up. I just think after you get to a certain point you just don't remember a dancing really well as dolphin stands. We might need that tomorrow night or Thursday night. Whenever listened to this. We'll see we'll see the NFL drug is going to be a lot of fun any last for replica show. Just have fun everybody. I mean, it's we go so many different directions is gonna be hilarious. What we actually do. And. Everybody's going to be pissed off. No matter. What happens though, no matter what everyone. Cares. Draft Jones, right. Credible. I will buy jersey if the dolphins drafting Jones all sweaty absolute dumpster fire free order. All right. So throughout draft weekend. We may becoming with t- with the pod as we wrap up the draft and give you the breakdown of all the dolphins selections. "So isn't it prudent for us to be interested in a lot of different people? I mean, it's we have to prepare for a lot of different situations and contingency. So you have to like a lot of different players, obviously, I think we'd like to trade down. And if we want to trade down that means we have to like even more players to see who's gonna fall down to us. So to say that we're interested in somebody at thirteen. Wow. Oh my gosh. It's it's smoke from what I gather. I've said it before it is very hard for me to get information anymore from Miami. I'm sure that will probably maybe maybe not. But usually these kind of things happen when a new coach comes in everyone's on their toes and just kind of trying to figure out the lay the land and see what can get away with what they can't get away with. We saw with Adam gazes. Well information was tight in his first year in his first few months, and then as he gained more control within the organization leaks opened up a little bit. So the information is very hard to come out come through with Miami right now. And I've said this before so for me, you know, when and not just me it's other people have talked to as well other big fish in the game that are much bigger than I am have publicly stated that it's harder to get information out of Miami this year, so for all of a sudden for them to be able to keep all this information under wraps for so long all of a sudden twenty four hours before the draft less than twenty four hours before the draft. When the only people that know what the draft board is in the only people that know what the final plan is is Chris Greer, Brian Flora's, probably Tom Garfinkel, and Stephen Ross, the owner all of a sudden leaks coming out that just doesn't add up for me. Instead, it seems like well placed in well, planted leaks, purposely that are giving this information out to these reporters to make other teams like the giants trade up in front of them to get the quarterback. They. Cut it because then they may feel like Miami Mike at that as well. And it's interesting that all of a sudden, you know, they had Dwayne Haskins at the top of their list right for quarterbacks the past two weeks or so right? And then as reports came out that the giants really liked Dino Jones better and twain Haskins Mike picked the top ten by Washington. All of a sudden the dolphins now have interest in Danny Jones. And we know that's who the giants like as wall. So it's just interesting to me how that kind of plays out. I'm not buying it all which means the dolphins will drop the quarterback on Thursday night. No, I'm not buying any of this all signs are pointing to a defensive lineman offense of linemen, I called my show earlier on Wednesday saying that I believe the pick is going to be Christian Wilkins defensive over Plumpton. It all just makes too much sense with him. But I'm not buying any of this quarterback talk. Their original plan was to draft a quarterback on day two. I still firmly believe that is your plan moving forward. For me. I think you're completely right? I would be very I mean, I'd be sick. I think a lot of people would if they went after Daniel Jones. I mean, his pro comparison is literally the guy just wasted seven years on obviously, he better than some areas than ten hill might be in vice versa for me of twain Haskins falls, thirteen you gotta pull the trigger. I mean defensive line offensive line. Those are huge need, you know, they need to build a secondary up move into a dime defense of. But at the end of the day if guy twain Haskins why think is the second best quarterback in the Strath for some reason. No he slips past the giants and the Redskins. They trade up and get Daniel Jones, or whatever they might be targeting. You pass Denver Cincinnati would be a hurdle there, but twain Haskins falls in your lap thirteen..

But no, I'm not going to be at gins low-sodium. These are too low sodium as part of the regimen. Like, I just want to be one hundred percent clear that you're aware that you're literally our are starting quarterback. I mean for now that's true. But there's months to go months to go. My entire thing where I thought you Chris for your signed him specifically explicitly to lose two tames and get the best pick possible. He's in great shape for that. Yeah. That's true. But that's a popular misconception. Greer is thinking Lombardi and people aren't aware that it's all Michael Lombardi. "I do not listen my shortlist, but as we had Kevin noble, the owner of the fence sided that com. He mentioned something interesting where he said there's a lot of smoke at first but over time that kind of smoke disappeared. He was wondering out loud. If that's a sign that dolphins. Gotta hold it out leak and nipped in the bud. So people don't realize their true intentions for the NFL draft. What can you tell us about Farrell? Got a chance to see him interview at the combine and you like his background as military parents. So he kinda comes from a strict background, but he has a sense of humor about it. He seems to have a very high football. I q the way he was describing some of Clemson schematics, and what his role was in. That defense just seem like a guy just eats breeze football, and he talk Chris Greer timeout football guys. You have the connection with Marion hobbyists defensive line coach for the dolphins. Now who worked with Clemson there for a few years? So there's some familiarity there. I think he does he's not quite the edge rusher that would be looking for. Okay. So I believe he. Does fit in a five techniques situation. So this is a player that would line on the outside shoulder of the tackle. I believe he could function well in four three defensive end. But I also think he has the flexibility to be an a three defensive line situation. So I think that puts his versatility, you know, by virtue of that kind of puts him at a premium with what the dolphins will be looking for because think about where we stand with a defensive line. Okay. We have devan God, Sean. We have visitor who will likely be. Playing one techniques and and three techniques. So were looking at guys replying, nose tackle. But also playing like traditional four three defensive tackle. But then when you look at the defensive in group Charles Harris, we saw something about him getting linebacker rep. So that tells me that they want him coming off the edge. And that makes sense to me. He's not a which is where he should have been all along. Right. So he's not the five technique that we're looking for. So who are we going to play on the defensive line when we bring three defensive linemen in because we will undoubtedly see that defensive formation. You're gonna see five defensive backs almost every single snap. So where the variation is. Are you gonna play three defensive lineman or four defensive linemen?.

"Slattery? Oh, this is joined by errant, son. Joshua this week got inside radio. We're going to talk briefly about the dolphin schedule. Release. We're going to then touch on all of the defensive lineman all the defensive I'm here for hours upon hours or wants to give you a few defensive lineman to keep your eye on the upcoming NFL draft who the dolphins likely have their eyes on both in the first round any possible. Second or third round guy. The dolphins desperately needs some edge rushers. They desperately need to fill up the depth on their defensive line. And this is a great draft for them to do. So all signs points in the for or surround barring any major surprises. Dolphins either. Go defense of liner offensive line on app. Episode of Finsider radio. We talked about the offensive lineman who the dolphins may be targeting in the first round in the mid routes. If you have not listened to that, please be sure to go back in time. And check that out as we name quite a few prospects and all their strengths and weaknesses or they could bring to the Miami Dolphins football team. The NFL draft is just over a week away round one on Thursday, April twenty fifth round two three and four on Friday, April twenty six and the balance of the draft on Saturday, April twenty seventh the dolphins, of course, pick thirteenth overall in the first round, and it is going to be the fourth time in team history. If they have picked thirteenth overall their previous picks at number thirteen nineteen seventy seven AJ, Dewey, the linebacker from LSU nineteen eighty one David Overstreet, the running back from Oklahoma. And of course, just a few years ago. Laremy Tunsil the tackle from sippy? We all. Donald that story. The Miami Dolphins have right now as it stands seven selections one in each round except a six round they have to in the seventh round the dolphins. Are of course, looking to trade back and accumulate those picks both this year and next year. Chris Greer and his press conference on Wednesday morning said that basically he looks at the draft is if he can find three starters out of it. It is success. He essentially said finding three starters is to goal and everything else is gravy, and that will basically be depth and backups along the different positions on the field. So when you look at Chris Greer's drafts over the years, you can see that so far he's pretty much been on track. Although he needs to on more. And I feel like you needs to get maybe, you know, three starters as a perfectly reasonable thing. But then to quality backups or depth pieces that can rotate in there and really make an impact and make that same in. The problem is though some of them have been ofensive, I'm defeat. Lineman guys have not made a huge impact and the overall grand scheme of things can Adolf's find that guy this year time, we'll tell find out in just over a week from now. Before we jump right into the draft and talk about all the different options for the dolphins defensive line. I want to touch on the schedule released that being released today. Eight o'clock PM eastern standard time today being Wednesday as record this, but many schedule links leaks came out through the day. I had a quite a few of them are friend. Travis Wingfield from longtime dolphins had a lot of them as well was able to cover the balance of the remaining games that were open the schedule throughout the day. And of course, all the other beat reporters filling in and so forth, and there's some initial reactions, but we all know at this time of the schedule basically means nothing because injuries happen teams change, the draft changes everything and so forth. So for you out, you know, looking at the dolphin schedule thus far and seeing what you have in terms of what we can expect this coming season where do you see the dolphins fairing? And what do you think maybe the, you know, the roughest part of the schedule es part of the schedule any show. Are there any advantages? They may have what are your initial thoughts? Let's be honest as soon as the season begins..

"Also reiterating from Chris Greer that the dolphins could take one in twenty nine hundred and twenty twenty also talking about making Fitzpatrick saying that he has an idea of where meek is going to play. But he's not going to say it just yet did say he wanted to move around a little bit in mini camp and training camp. And finally, get a roll down for him. He said Charles Harris is a interesting player, and that someone he thinks can move around in space a bit praise T J McDonald saying he can play a lot of different positions said that losing John James hurt in free agency. I think it was Christopher who said that. But going back to Flora's. It's just nice and refreshing to hear someone talk about the strength of the players. And what they can do. Well, said of maybe what they can't do. Well, we also heard from breer that saving Howard contract talks are progressing. Well, and hopefully, we get a deal before the start of the season because we've seen how the dolphins prior management. Hopefully, not this management liked to let their free agents get to the market and then it gets too expensive. If you let your guys get to the market, you're getting into a bidding war, and they're most likely going to leave. If you don't wanna fight for that. So so your general thoughts on the different things that Brian floors said especially about guys like Charles harassment Fitzpatrick, the future of this team also said and praised Kiko Alonzo said he sees him being on the team this year and beyond and paired with Ray Kwame McMillan and Jerome Baker. He looks like that's going to be the linebacker crew for this coming season. You know, I think that's what modern leaders do. Now is they recognize people's strengths..

"I'll every coach every player and everything we're just gonna put some the obstacles in our way. And so we're looking at start Ryan Fitzpatrick cornerback and not have much of a pass rush right now. So those are some of the obstacles on talking about. So yes, there's absolutely no question that players coaches always play to win the game. But there is a little bit of a handicap going in to the season in my opinion, as the roster currently stands can we talk about this whole taking narrative 'cause I hate it. I think it's the stupidest thing that's out there. And I know the media has been drumming it up since the interviews because we found out from Stephen Ross when he talked to the media, they he told coaches the way he was going to build the team not the way they were going to build a team, which is kind of interesting because you want to bring in a coach because of their vision for the team and the general manager for their vision of team, but I guess it makes sense because him and Chris Greer obviously share the same vision of how to build a proper team. And Ross basically said that he's going to build this team the way he's built his business, which I'm a huge proponent of. I've been banging the table for this for the past several years Ross is so successful. All these owners were so successful as business people as you know, whatever they did before becoming an owner and some of them can't get out of their own way in the NFL because all of a sudden, they don't think you're qualified or or give too much power. And my whole thing is Stephen Ross you built your businesses. Being you do that with the dolphin..

"And Stephen Ross all spoke to the media all had a lot to say. So we're going to dive into that in just a few minutes. Also, some news coming out regarding the Arizona Cardinals in their intentions with the number one pick. It is starting to get it wouldn't say more clear, but I will say there's a lot more smoke coming out around the cardinals drafting Cuyler Murray and Josh Rosen being available to smoke is around. Josh Rosen being available, and we all know that smoke just dust does not come from anywhere. There is something happening there. There is something brewing. Something ready to burst into flames. And we're going to try to get to the bottom of that. And so you everything that we've been reading not hearing his we don't have any incentive for mation on that. But everything we've been reading that you may have missed or you may have seen as well versed. How all of you. Let's jump into the owners meetings. Chris Greer speaking to the media after the general manager photo with all the other teams. I think the biggest takeaway from that boys was that he said they have no problem drafting a quarterback in twenty nineteen and twenty twenty. He also mentioned Ryan tannehill said it was time to move on said he was inconsistent in Miami. Also, I think he may have thrown some shade. As outs alluded to on Twitter the other day at the former regime when he said that he could have pushed a little harder for them to draft a quarterback to challenge. Ryan tannehill. Chris also mentioning the fact that no the dolphins are not taking. Didn't say rebuilt but said they're trying to do things the right way. And also said. That they have a lot of picks in next year's draft in the twenty twenty dress right now, I think they have ten or eleven picks of the top of my head. And he said they don't need to be one in fifteen or two in thirteen or three and ten now three three and thirteen to get the franchise quarterback. If they so choose twenty twenty he said if they get eight wins, they get eight wins. They'll move up in the with all the picks that they have out. So I'm going to start with you on this one since you kind of were leading the charge on the whole Greer throwing tanenbaum and others under the bus. What were your takeaways from Chris Greer's talk with the media? The other day. I think the biggest thing aside from what you said with old quarterback was the fact that you know, this is not a tank. These guys are not going out there and they're not trying to throw games to get a high draft pick. They realized that they continue to get an arsenal draft picks us in twenty twenty. They're probably going to do something in twenty nineteen at the position. So I think it's very interesting to see what Chris Cooper's saying all the right things. It's it's going to be cool to see how this plays out because the dolphins can draft a quarterback in round one this year, they could go and draft on again next year. It's not likely to happen. But Chris cruise leaving everything out there. And it's we're gonna see this thing. Play out snoot later, the common theme that will talk about tonight and everybody address us in different ways in little bit different semantically, but kind of outright squashing the idea of tanking, and I think that will be music to quite a few dolphins fans ears that bought that story line to begin with. But. What I will like an to is like playing a game a pig with your kid playing with your non dominant hand. Yeah. I'm still gonna try to Pete my kid playing in a game of pig, but I've also kind of level the playing field where makes the game little bit more fair. So an other words we're going to play to win the game..

"They will try to make a move for him as well. It's going to be an interesting five weeks until the NFL draft. Don't expect it here a lot because as you both alluded to at the top of the show. The leaks are not coming out this year, Brian floors, Chris Greer, Marmon Reggie McKenzie are running a very tight ship. And while it hurts us because we can provide you with the inside information because we're not getting as much still getting a little bit. But not as much. As fans as someone who wants to have success in this organization. It's great for the way. They're doing things any last thoughts. Helzer sign. I want to close on Joon James. And this was an yes, you know, what I forgot about two to mention this part because I know there's some juicy stuff on him. Okay. So my brother-in-law his uncle was the offensive line coach at Tennessee with Joon Jane's when he was in school. And I happened to be my brother-in-law's bachelor party when we were had his uncle on speakerphone, and it wasn't that far removed from when we drafted Joon James and basically. My brother-in-law's uncle was for an I'll admit I don't remember what he said verbatim. But the impression that I got was he was a little surprised John James was a first round pick. And. When you kind of reflect back on the situation, we were at an needing tackle fat was you know, Joon James played, right? Tackle his whole career at Tennessee. And that's exactly what we needed, and we were little bit pigeonholed so for people, and I know the offense of line for God's sake. I would love the start. I'd love the stop talking about it just like anybody else. But from a economical perspective and a just kind of building a long-term consistent, winter perspective. I don't think anybody should be that distraught about losing John James. I know it's another whole that we need to fill in the team. But I think this was another decision that the organization got right for me. There's no way the dolphins could match that price tag. I mean, the doll. Did the right thing. You said John James. He's a good player. But that's about where it ends. You kinda know what he is top paid, right? Tackle football. Not thanks. So we will see how this all shakes out moving forward. And also in the latest edition of the Monday morning quarterback last week that has said something with sources about supposedly saying that they were waiting to see which team scooped up John James because. They have to game plan to hide James's weaknesses, and they had to do everything they could and spent so much energy to assign help to him throughout the game. And we saw two we saw mental lapses. We saw physical lapses we saw as really inability to get out in space and lay down the blocks. It just opens another whole unaligned. But like you said sign, I don't think dolphins fan should freak out too much. I think find a serviceable right tackle pretty pretty easily. But you could find someone who's going to get the job done. Just as good as you want. If not better all have tons of holes. Again, that's why I said it's going to be interesting. And it's going to be really really interesting to see what happens if a quarterback or to starts to fall towards that number thirteen pick. If it's and they're going to make the move this year, or if they'll stay put and likely trade down to accumulate more picks. It's too bad in a way. It's. Before we finish is just too bad because we've said on this show, and I had the information, and I said this during the draft and after the draft last year the dolphins and the saints had a deal lined up before the draft. Dolphins were willing to trade back to the end of the first round they were going to get these saints first round pick this year. Had that happens. The dolphins would have had two first round picks this year, and that would have been plenty of ammo to go up and get either Cuyler Merv you false pass number one or Dwayne Haskins starts to fall. Yes. Adults. What have not gone Minka Fitzpatrick who knows who they would have gotten?.

"But man, how excited are you to be on the ground at the NFL combine, which I think is one of the top five events that the NFL puts on top three top two definitely not the top ones Super Bowl is. But I would argue besides the draft. Then combine is the place to be obviously super excited didn't know that this would ever be an opportunity just wanna go and not making Atta myself and be a student of the game and absorb as much as I can I'll be with some other good guys. And no see a few more others there. They know this is going to be as much of a networking thing as it will be on the field sort of performance, and it's kinda cool that the reasons combine is going to be interesting as maybe not the reasons that those people might think it's not gonna be the workouts and drills and stuff like that. It's going to be. Some of the things that happened behind the scenes, and that's why I'm super excited just roll my sleeves up and just absorb as much as I can. I'll be a tremendous opportunity for you. And I'm jealous even though you know, we run PFM three sixty five together all of us. But obviously, work schedules and family commitments all of that. So you are going with Brett Yaris and Chris Brunner to members of the staff there, the PFM Staffan again like I mentioned also covering for the Finsider infant side radio. So you definitely have your work. Cut outs. What are you looking forward to the most sign as to the position groups, not only working out put the interview processes while when they meet with the media during their Disney today, what's gonna be interesting just to see the whole process how it unfolds for the media. You know, where are we allowed to stand? How close are we allowed to get to the action? How you know how how available are all the all the players. We know that they're going to be available from two o'clock to five o'clock in the evening each day. But we don't know is what order the players come in. And are there simultaneous podiums open? And it's basically each. Choose who you're going to ask different times. So those types of things I'm going to kind of have to figure out on the fly also in the same vein. I'd saw Bryan Florez Chris Greer interviewed the smarting. I wasn't sure known some of the NFL communications that I had received through PF n that. You know, what's it wasn't apparent which teams in which coaches would be available which times it was very clear that it's gonna be kind of a fluid process. So I'm gonna see when I get there Friday morning, and I'm just like I said, it's gonna roll my sleeves up and get to as much action as I can. And if you know finding a sneak some of my kids in there and helped me accumulate knowledge and info that I'm gonna do that. You'll be making sure we are all stayed at informed of the latest updates on your Twitter feed on the Twitter feed on the inside of the com- everywhere. I know you're going to be hard at work. But let's go back to Wednesday morning when Chris Greer and Brian floors spoke Miami Dolphins general manager and head coach respectively. They had a few interesting tidbits. I think the biggest hit bit..

"We don't all villas consensus. But we do have a good idea that it was pretty close to a consensus. If it wasn't the thing is this Chris Greer, this is his pick. This is Chris Chris higher and Brian Flora's. This is Chris Greer matching up someone who resembles him in his identity and how to build a team. So we can find Solis in that that the. General manager who is a direct report from the head coach he gets his guy moving on free agency in the draft. I don't think Ross's much involved at all. He may throw his suggestions recommendations here there. But he does not force his front office to anything there. Now as far as Chris Greer goes as to what he was responsible for. We don't know for sure we'll never know for sure unless he comes out and says it even though we don't know for sure, but I do know that exuding Howard. He slammed the table four from what I understand. So when people talk about how he doesn't wanna resign exhibit. I do think that's kind of. Buyer beware there in terms of believing those reports I do think that dolphins will work to extending savings. Chris Greer was very high on him Kenyan Drake. I think was Adam gaces guy. Chris grayer, we believe picks Minka Fitzpatrick over guys like Derwin, James and others. He picked Mike ezekie over Andrews Godart. We do think that Chris Greer picked Charles Harris. So the results are mixed as with any GM out there. We'd never know for sure who did what? And how much was Chris ca- responsible for with Adam gates and Mike Tannenbaum as it's been widely reported by myself and others Adam gates after's first year got a power trip to his head and ask for more power behind the scenes in God. It's Mike Tannenbaum did not keep him in check. And Chris gray was kind of overshadowed by these because it was basically tantamount to top that Adam gays, but really it was roles reverse. It was just a dysfunctional relationship there in Miami. Hope. Answered all parts of your questions as best as I could throw the next one now to sign and sign you kind of touched on this. But are you surprised the evil empire? This is from Miami. Max the evil empire led a must scape and take a number of staff with him with Harley peep out of them. They battled for Josh last year. And he was not in the same division. Your thoughts. Yeah. Just don't think there's much to this. I really just think that Bryan Florez developed some commod ary with these guys. And why wouldn't they they're on the frontlines doing the installs and doing all the position coaching and a believe Josh Boyer was the pass game coordinator for them. So they're doing some higher level, scheming and planning here guy. So that they clearly had a good working relationship. One good enough to transplant in Miami. These guys gets promotions from from what I could tell I I don't know if it was a lateral move financially. Or if maybe it was a promotion in the sense of of getting getting some more money and some more job security. So it's kinda hard to tell on that front. But I I really do think that we got some good assistant coaches are allowed to enjoy that. We don't need to second guess everything. All right, next one is for house from drifting..

"Being a head coach today is such a challenging proposition i know this is your first year as a head coach but coach in this league for north along time he coached the college level at see you in wyoming and back in colorado on bowling green before moving on to san francisco houston cincinnati miami right what has surprised you most about being a head coach dance i think the uh the one thing that you don't realize this you know everything cross your desk you know obviously you know obviously all the football decisions you have to make its fourth football team and the game they management stuff but outside of that you're everything crosses your desk from from the paint on the walls to the travel schedule to uh the two a day scheduling so you know all of the administrative stuff you kind of as an assistant coach you kinda never thought about you know but it it it it hits your desk and it's uh it's a it's important stuff you know that doesn't really always pertain to football you and asked the part that peta had no one's aware of you know it doesn't decide if you win games or not but his cross a your death and you know i'm a euro up your head football coach but really do kind of an administrator slash had football coach so it's a it's a combination of uh of our two jobs in my opinion and that's the that's the most surprising thing that you know um it's it's days that a more i spend a lot less time on football and more time with with schedules and and um and building issues in a more than i do football so that that's definitely surprising well there are things that come up that you would never envisioned like what do you think it was like for gays to get a call last night from his gm chris greer to say that hey are assistant.
