"Everybody in texas. Who's the trustee down. There gives a bunch of money. They don't wanna be jerry jones junior and they want to have a say in the program. There's a lot of stuff to deal with the beyond coaching football. And i hope sark Can manage all that stuff. Man he can he can call plays and he's a good recruiter and i'm happy to see him. You know he's had he's had to sort of wreck redemption trips back to tuscaloosa with save it and i think he's i i feel I like him a lot. And i feel for what he had to go through off the field and i hope that part of his life is convert forever and i hope he has great success in austin. He's chris ballard tonight at seven eastern the trophy ceremony and then eight eastern on monday night. The national title. Who did you vote for by the way okay mic. My i'm twenty seven hundred not revealing my vote. Could you imagine this for once. They're not in the same room. But i'm you know as you can't you can't say who you voted for him. They go out there host show but good try. Okay i mean i think i'm Oh in twenty four give. A vote voted. But i'm not a yes. No one's supposed to tell actually record sworn to secrecy of they could come and take your ballot away right. Well they did ask you know because i do you tell people on the show because i said you know hey i watch a lot of football i take this. It's great honor to vote. And they knew i almost got into a fight. This heisman fight with craig. Sager years ago. In miami. Outside the cleveland or hotel. Okay so we both have beers in our hands. And i said two sager how disappointed i was in the heisman voting because a freshman should be able to win. Adrian peterson to me. I thought deserve the heisman trophy. Okay so three minutes later. We're we're we're nose-to-nose we're gonna fight over adrian. Peterson should he win. The heisman trophy. Poli had to jump in true story segment. I we're gonna throw down again. Rian peterson i'm just. I'm just picturing you and sager probably had a plaid sport coat on with beers of the corner of ten th and ocean ready to throw it out is just yeah i think what. What color was that. Salmon view colored jacket on. He's a big guy. Could you imagine police showing up. What's what's the argument about. Adrian peterson as you go ahead. You guys can throw down. I've seen plenty of beer. Fueled fights at that exact location and when my friends used to own that place and that that was a that was a hang out. But that's a great memory picture you give me thank you for that have fun. Tonight is always chris. We appreciate your time and good luck on monday night as well. Thank you sir. Appreciate it chris. "And kyle trask. It's a very different deal. They can have their family there. The coaches it's going to be at their team locations but it's a different vibe than two guys who are still in the court certainly alabama bubble of getting ready for the game the next monday. And you've been doing this such a long time. We love to hand out that heisman. September we love at the beginning of october. And you know. I came in. I forget how many weeks ago. And i said devante smith is the best player on any football field that he plays on. I don't know if he's going to win the heisman but he to me is the difference maker for that team. But i it's when you start to handicap this. What do voters see and what what should they be looking for. So let me ask you that. What should you look for in the heisman candidate. It's simple. It says most outstanding player on the ballot right. But that's open to interpretation for me. I was looking at it. What would be like if that guy weren't there. What what would he booted me. And if he was out. You know. And i think we we saw with lawrence what it meant for clemson for example. I don't know where florida would be without contrast but it wouldn't have been an ear six bowl game battling bamako. Sec jansher out of the final couple possessions. That's for sure in the alabama guys yet. The judge the offense is so good. I mean we're having this conversation. Are they as good as lsu last year. Which i think is the best college office. I've ever seen you smith jones at harrison offensive of wine that joan stays pretty clean in the pocket a lot but demonte smith and i think it's interesting dan in this year. That's been so different where the rules are just basically tossed out. I think there is more momentum for voters to look beyond the usual quarterback stats and say the first old mafia said has amazing stats as a receiver. I mean phenomenal stats every good team. They faced no matter what they throw at him. He was off the charts and the better the db's across from the more. He embraced the challenge of figuring out a way to beat. Bet guy and so i think there's lots of people endorsement. Lots of guys have said you know demonte. Smith is the best player navy. This is a year to do that. I don't know if that's the way the vote is going to go. But i think people would consider him a slight favorite point because there has been that late momentum. You talked about what is it. Eight hundred voters more than nine hundred nine nine hundred voters. Yeah they voted. People think they didn't vote after the after these games okay. They voted after the conference championship games. That didn't change. So you can't factor in what you saw new year's day and the other bowl games. Yeah because if you did then demonte. Smith's your heisman. Trophy winner right. Well it certainly would have hurt the case for lawrence trust. I'll say that with obama guys just kept rolling. I mean smith at three more touchdowns against notre dame that doesn't count him in the voting. How statistically evaluate but those guys..

"What we welcome you back. Great to have all of you here. And let's check in with billy of next. Hey billy good afternoon all started calling all year great to hear from you got a quick question. I look back. I called you a couple of weeks. Ago i i was worried about eddoes job. Lsu and then my coach at all run got sacked. I've never saw that coming and anyway imagine at one question. You look at South carolina they got will must camp got rid of him pretty much after the middle of the season you know. I thought that was pretty odd. Not letting finished it out and my second question. Is this the way gus go. He's had more I think out of all. Sec coaches more. Cosmo beaten nick. You know not many times but anyway more than anybody else be three and five against sabin so my question so when they got rid of and do you think they already had because even though they won that last game of mississippi state do you think they already had a coach and play. Well i think. I think the decision was made. I the way i heard it. They were just waiting to to flip one more key booster and once they were able to get him to turn and be able to take care of the buyout They were ready to have someone in mind. And that's pretty obvious who it is. It's a matter of whether everyone signs off on kevin steele and that is going to create a lot of controversy if they hire him because of the perception. But you know auburn folks feel feel pretty comfortable with them at the moment. We'll update you on that in a minute. More recruiting news. We're coming right back. Thank you for listening to the paul finebaum. Show podcast the paul finebaum. Show airs weekdays on the sec network beginning at three eastern..

"I agree with that. it's just you know. Take saying indeed. Be ford head to head but i mean you also have raised the question They do have the common opponents which think when you get right down to that would be beyond beating alabama's the single best accomplishment. Anyone would have had all year so You can't you can't discount that. So i think there i mean. Did that game really hurt them the other day. Yes i think there are some reasons why they kept them where they were where they are. I think pits being out. I think i think florida being a part of it. I mean the iowa state thing doesn't make any sense. I always stays not getting into the playoffs with a win over oklahoma. Well i appreciate what you do. Call appreciate what you do from network and off the alleged. Thank you thank. You say that. I mean there's there's there's a formula for chaos alabama losing. Am losing to tennessee. I mean you. Can you know. I was losing. I mean there's a lot of variables here More than likely we won't we won't get too far down on the variable lists appreciate the call. Jeremiah is in louisiana. Hello jeremiah though paul. I'm questioned about the college football playoff. And how i mean. The previous called brought it up but Just for example how i was should They're ranked at number seven. But you have teams like coastal carolina. And you know you looking outwards in and you get beat Beat iowa state week one this season because carolina came see you. I think they'd be hugh allan a really close game in costa carolina's had some nights wins over ranked teams such as like byu. And it's just little confusing that they're so far down on know they've had some close games but the right wings and he's they'd be kind of lines a contender. Yeah i agree i mean In a group jeremiah. You get you get this group together in there and sometimes they just don't make a lot of sense and i think the problem. Is you get this guy gary bardo. He's the athletic director at iowa. He comes and speaks on tuesday night but he he only speaks for the committee. He doesn't speak in real english. So you're getting all this gibberish. That most of us are just shaking our heads at. I don't think a lot of it matters. I think some of it just posturing as tim. Brando has said many times. There is an inherent against the group of five in anything. Anyone who's not a blue blood power five member. And i think you're starting to see some of that you know with the cincinnati and in coastal coastal. Just had a phenomenal year. Why don't they get a little credit for that. Thank you for the call. I do appreciate it. And let's check in with Herald who is up next. Hey harold how you doing great to have you on. Enjoy your shows especially since cogan wherever stick around the house a lot and i watch it every day now but thank you the reason. I'm calling you about football today. Tennessee and i heard the guy kind of dog. Jeremy pruitt while ago and You know You can't hear me. Or the i hear you herald okay. Anyway you know. He's only been there to two and a half years. If you're firing you're going to hire and you you're not going to build a program high firing coach every two or three years. I'll listen to what you have to say. Well you know what. I completely agree with that. I'm not in favor of just firing somebody to fire him. If you fire. Jeremy you better have a good. You'd better have a good coach waiting. And i think they could possibly have that coach in in in the wings but it is a tough thing to do and i'm betting heavily. They don't fire him. And that just knowing phillip. Fulmer for as long as i do he. He believes in the people that worked for him. And that's good. I would want to people that. I work for to believe in the as well. We are heading to a break. Eight five five two four two seven two eight five chris fowler. You'll be on the call this weekend for the acc championship. He will join us next. You're listening to the paul finebaum show. Podcast we welcome you back. It's great to have everyone here and we are certainly keeping our eye on on national signing day. It's always a big deal this year. It seems to be a little muted. I'm certainly not on the various campuses. But but overall i because it's right in the middle of the In abc and everyone else championship week. So it's a little bit different than it was a couple of years ago when we experienced it for the very first time it certainly. You know quite a bit different. I would say that. I wednesday and in in february. That used to be a day of great celebration. Anyway we are back on the program with everyone here and one of our favorite people is about to join us we. We've talked to him periodically back in the spring and then in the build up to the college football season here we are making the final turn toward the championship games and ultimately the playoff which of course chris fowler will call the playoffs in the national championship. Game here a row. Not right here on. Espn christian great. Have you with us. it's always a pleasure and well here. We are where we finally made it to the final week. I know it hasn't been easy for you. Oh man happy how it is great to talk to you. I guess he made it. I you know when an actually wraps up on on saturday afternoon in charlotte and i turn my attention to watch the sec. Then that i can. I can call it a regular season but as you know. It's been hour by hour week by week and You know my my heart goes out to a of the coax players just like so many people who struggled in more profound ways but just watching close hand this season foale man Hope you never go through another one like it. But it's been very educational to be able to talk to some players and coaches about their experiences each week because something's they have in common and some things are unique to their own situations but man. It's been an adventure. I'm just curious because You know we'll let the the others hash out what's happening this weekend. But but just talk a little bit. Chris about about the odyssey from from the beginning until now as you said and the experiences that you've picked up as well yeah i think for me. The season began with so many questions and then and then as it unfolded. It became very obvious. How fragile all. I think i use that word to you several times and i'm just relieved. We've made it to the finish line. I think some conferences like the sec. Greg sankey Last weekend kind of bragging almost taking a victory lap about how the things have turned out in that conference and rightfully so in some respects the. Acc has done. Well the two conferences that really started early and and jumped in the leap of faith but but trusted their own ability to sort things out actually did pretty well and the conferences and started a little bit later and had no margin for error you. I'm not saying they made wrong decisions. I met here judge that. In hindsight they were making the best decisions. They could based on their medical information but obviously the pac twelve has dissolved into a fiasco. And i say that. With painting my voice because i love that.

"Next. You're listening to the Paul Finebaum show podcast. Back on a Friday afternoon, Dennis is next in Oregon Dennis Welcome to the program. Will, all Along Wilma on. The law great to have you. With all the money. That I Thought the Finnick thank you. And Another three amazing out I'll take. All You. Guys. People. See Down those guys. They. Really make you know what's going on. Through them I, I go to. Dog. On the out. I. Got all this stuff about the. His quarterback for two years really and I was good. On throws. Apply Best full you know. A Columbia. College. Is just one of. My Life. Only. On. My voice when. Alex. I really. Who Dennis thank you for saying that in all the best to you and hopefully continued good health and I think what he said there is so interesting. And thank you very much is. Widely, we why do we spend so much time talking about our school or our favorite team, and because it really is an important part of our lives and And and I think Dennis brought it home to us. And so clearly there, and thank you very much for that Dennis. Let's. I mean how? How many of us? Think about think back to our college time as a as the. As as the absolutely apex of our life. I. Mean. Maybe I'm sure someone criticises for saying that. But in many for many people. Those were the greatest four or five years. or in some people's cases six or seven or eight. Mike is up next in Michigan, Hey Mike good afternoon. Hey Paul. How are you buddy doing? Great. Hey last time I talked to you about four years.

"Peppers. The official drink of Fans Ville grab some today. Really done very much in almost a month. It is difficult I. Mean I can tell you as a former receiver in not having the opportunity to create that rhythm with your quarterback. The timing that's important in the passing game that that's one thing that I'll keep my on. That's how sink is kind of trask with his receivers but really just from the conditioning standpoint as well you can do as much as you'd like to on your own to try to get yourself in shape but there's nothing like playing football there's nothing like the contact and and being able to. Get back to the huddle, the four five seconds, each play takes So I think that's the other thing that I look for as you get into the the late third early fourth quarter is just how well Florida's conditioned or condition after being being off as long as they were and depending on guys to do their, they're their things individually like we know some guys are GonNa get after another guys they're probably sitting home playing video games. So anxious to see that conditioning level in the fourth quarter. You certainly have drawn a lot of attention here was some of your prediction. So we'll we'll hit a few locales. We'll start in Texas where Arkansas fans have a really good shot after eight losses road to the AGGIES. What happens here? You know it is amazing to think about because if you look at the roster's. AM's double digit better team than what what Arkansas is right now that's not taking anything away from the hogs and what they've done. I think they've created a fun environment where guys know what they're doing and they execute very cleanly defensively they're very physical they fly around and and do what they're supposed to do on that side of the ball but the thing to me is that I I look at Texas the starting to develop an identity of who they are thought against Florida and the second half when they decided to just run the football and put that game on the shoulders of their offensive line Nice Smith and and as as. filler that they figured out that this is the best way to win and then all of a sudden they come out against Mississippi state in and they regressed. So the one thing that scares me about really getting fired up about an as the lack of consistency that we've seen from them over the years and particularly the lack of consistency of callum on. But I do believe that this is a game that am will win. We come to expect a lot of craziness in the series. So I think it's going to be a close game into the fourth quarter and an finds a way to pull it out but only by a narrow couple points. I know you'll be glued all of us tomorrow afternoon in an Auburn because we have two teams that are I used to be careful how I describe them but because they're they have had such a peculiar season both. And Auburn what gives on the planes you know Paul, this'll be the first time that I've come onto your show here on a Friday and actually picked over and it really was not clear cutting for me. But when I went back and watched the tape, it comes down to a couple different things one Now having some film on Tj Finley knowing what that lsu offense is GonNa look like with him at the quarterback. Position I think that the the the Auburn. Defense will have a plan I mean think back to last year the best plan for stopping that prolific historic offense at Lsu. Had was put together by Kevin Steele This is a much different offense that lsu rolls into. Jordan Hare I think have a great plan for him and then on the other side, it comes down to this which which improvement from last week do. We trust more. We trust the improvement of the defensive lsu or do we trust the improvement of the offense for Auburn I? I watched the tape of that lsu South Carolina game. There still is a lot of deficiencies in the secondary. They have a hard time setting the edge I mean if you look at South Carolina's success running the football, it was on the perimeter and so one thing that I saw that Auburn did. Really. Well, last year last week against Ole miss was in that gap scheme doing a great job of of of moving guys get into the to the edges in creating big runs by tank biggs may so I think it's GonNa be a close game but I actually am an picking Auburn here just because I trust that offense is improvement a little bit more than what I saw Lsu defense on tape. Is. More frustrating when you when you pick Auburn to lose and it looks like they are about to, and then an officiating call overturns it, which would like as you're watching that that's the season right Paul two times a season I picked updates and everybody seemingly upset and everybody thought that I was crazy for going with the hogs the first time around, and then last week for going with. Ole. Miss and and literally invested emotionally. I my reputations on the line and to see it go down at the hands of the officiating is definitely been frustrating. So I I don't know about the continuing luck that Auburn has had I have to believe at some point in time that comes to an end. But I'm writing the Tigers this week not because of the luck factor. But because I think they can actually do more to to win this game on their own. Another. Erratic team has. been. Kentucky. Because they've had so many impressive performances even in the in defeat against Auburn and the complete and total of this ration- of Tennessee, and then they give a lot of away last week at Missouri. What happens tomorrow in Athens that's been the story, the the season this year in the SEC right I mean we start to feel good about south. Carolina and they lay an egg last week against Lsu feeling really good about Kentucky after leaving Knoxville and breaking that historic losing streak there and they looked absolutely miserable and again, going back and watching the tape. They become. So one dimensional their inability to throw the football has allowed defenses to to scheme. You know we're going to stop the run. We're GONNA. Put guys in every single gap. We're GONNA, play single high safety about nine yards from the line of scrimmage, and we're GONNA play man coverage on your receivers because we know they can't separate and if they do separate, they're probably going to drop the ball or if they throw the football, it might be an accurate because the quarterbacks haven't been able to throw with much accuracy this year. So I This is probably the worst team that you could possibly go into a game being one dimensional against as Georgia's defense is incredibly incredibly physical, incredibly sound upfront and I. Don't think that this is a game that that Kentucky all of a sudden decides that they know how to throw the football again I, really think Paul that last year having to go to the offense they did with Lynn Boden really hurt the development of of the. Receivers and right now I. Just don't see a lot of guys that impressed me to this point in time So I do think this is going to be a game that that Georgia's able to dominate I think.

"It became a huge song in eastern Europe brought by the time the Berlin Wall was falling and the time that that the survey was just opening up ahead. So the band by the way denies this but these two guys go in this investigation talking to see agents and anonymously I haven't finished the POB because I don't know if they come to a conclusion at the end of it, I don't want to invest in like ten hours of my time. WHO KNOWS Maybe they didn't, but it's just fascinating to dive into this world and see the kinds of things that are covered in this format. It's all there for you. Well, I. "Got wings on the trigger. Come on in stay awhile got a poll question course leave it to us to skew negative as we get ready for the first full NFL weekend of games. The least watchable game this weekend feels like we included everybody from the AFC south in their mclovin is correct. Yeah the Texans played last night. So that was washable. Tennessee Denver Cults Jaguars I threw an eagles against Washington part of Washington not having a team nicknamed makes him less watchable. Here's what I couldn't decide on the chargers Bengals chargers et Cincinnati. I'm interested. Now if Justin Herbert was playing, then that would be awesome. Number one yeah. Well, it'd be up there wouldn't be better than the saints the buccaneers. You'd think the chargers and the bengals would be the number one game to watch this weekend you know I love rookie week one debut more than anything. Well, this is a weak one debut for Tom Brady as well with the buccaneers. All right eight seven seven three DP show email address ep Dan Patrick dot com twitter handle with DP spent a good portion of the first hour talking about the chiefs looking great the Texans better come up with the defense and Clyde Edwards Allaire the H is silent. He's not Russia's for over one hundred thirty yards and a touchdown. The Lakers go through the motions. They are up three games to one on the rockets James Harden. Missing in Action Nuggets clips tonight and game seven Celtics and the raptors got a full schedule of college football coming up this weekend and there's some interesting games. But you got a lot of teams that are in actions. The schedule picks up Notre Dame's in action this week and Trevor Lawrence and Clemson. Clemson. They face wake forest Notre Dame Oklahoma's in action Texas action. Most of the ranked teams big favorites here. Even some of these handful of games you know anything can happen here. You don't necessarily have that homefield advantage. Some teams have dealt with big cove numbers. Others haven't, and you get to feeling that Las Vegas is going to have a harder time than usual trying to get the lines right this season. But. His fans were certainly not complaining putting the debate about whether they should be playing to the side for a moment you can't help but feel happy seeing teams take the field on Saturday and there will be a few more upsets than usual. So buckle up twenty twenty is going to be interesting I saw where the Ohio State, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day questions the big ten and is hinting at a mid October return. He issued a statement through the school that hinted at a possible return in mid October but also continued to question the communication from the big ten since its decision last month to postpone the season..

"Getting in that riot the thing that more than anything else or to really fascinates me is finding that sweet spot of extreme intensity but also relaxation right. You're not burning unnecessary energy that to me. That's you know being in the zone means different things in different sports or different walks of life that just fascinates me threads that thin space. Did I think that's right? I mean I think it's it. It's that thin space. Where you're you're still there but you're just in a whole you're just sort of floating put its floating and so just to wrap up a couple of one really important thing is probably the most important thing we've talked about is that we share yet another thing in common and this is so. I am so fucking proud of myself right now because as I was looking up your life and I knew most of it but looking at your wikipedia and I says here he lived in Colorado Springs graduated from Palmer High School so I click on in palm high school just so you all know Palmer. Highschool and Wikipedia has their own wikipedia page. And I'm like do you think. Do you think I get a mention? And so I click on Palmer high school and this is notable alumni or whatever in alphabetical versus Lance Armstrong. And then it says Elvira and this is Chris Fowler and so on their wikipedia but we went to the same high school. When I went up there to the springs to my first training camp at the many classrooms. You actually sit in like I know. I know your name on the wall of fame there but if you actually sit in classrooms there always got just a very few very few but very few and I didn't but I still. I'm still on their Kapiti page. But in parentheses it says graduated elsewhere. But I made in if I'm on the wall I didn't know him on the wall if I'm on the wall recall of course you're in the world and there's a lot of a lot of how it's actually because they were you know. They obviously were in the springs for the Training Center. Might made it. Cata Cup of coffee at the Palmer. High School go terrors viral. Mister dark many commodity. We everybody down to hurry. I you have a more prominent alumni mass so I started going. You know how this shit works. You know you get started going down the rabbit hole. Where's ELVIRA now looking up? Elvira like if you go to her Kapadia page you got too much time on your quarantine. This is this is what you do. You look you you look up you learn and you look at all the pictures of Elvira because the picture on her pedia pager like Holy Shit like she looks fucking amazing like you so then you start going like googling images of Elvira today and she's I read somewhere. She has an autobiography. What this is serious about this? I chant comment on viral online. So You keep going. Well I'm telling you and I'm telling everybody listening or watching so. She's got an autobiography coming out October of this year. Twenty twenty hopefully that stays on track and the other thing that I did not know about hers at some point early in her life. She was burned. Two thirds of her body is completely covered in burns and scars so the whole she said that in quote. Elvira said that everything you saw Elvira. I mean she had this kind of costume on but beautiful woman you tell she was beautiful but all you everything that was scarred was covered and so she she knows yet the best to see was shown or something like that like it. I look forward to having you. Haven't her on. I don't know that I'd I'd have to overcome well and some of the photos you can kinda but it you know. I just I love those things. It's like Get both of us on Palmer. Terror reunion show or something you. You'll know this he he. He was an all state Basque. He's still he's still in the NBA. He's with the clippers There's a lot of there's astronauts and stuff like that there it goes back. I don't know the wall of fame not Google media page for Palmer in a while. So no but he went to. I think he went to Boston College and he was drafted by he's in the NBA. I should know up. My brain is turned off right now. We've come to you should do this. I know I should. What would you be covering? I could cheat on this phone but I'm not going to do that. So what would you be covering right now? I'd be off. Actually it'd be getting ready for for pretend this season but I missed a couple of tennis tournaments. That were obviously canceled. So this is. This'll be my down time. Anyway Reggie Jackson Reggie Graduated Palmer High School two thousand in by the way. I saw it last night. I thought Holy Fuck Chris Fowler Elvira Lance Armstrong and Reggie Jackson went to Palmer and then I was like. Oh it's a different Reggie Jackson as drafted in twenty hundred still bass player in that band now in the back. Good I mean. Let's hope let's hope. Elvira singing man. Thanks for doing this on on a whim. It's fun to reconnect is good. It's it's good to connect. I enjoy what you're doing here. Thank you gotta give me some tips. I'm going to try to launch a podcast down the line like not talking really about sports but some of the different things we on here. So maybe appreciate what you're doing. I I do it yup absolutely and like I just said I wanNa make sure you heard me. Maybe maybe you'll have me on the show. We don't have to talk about sports. Sobre GOPRO once. I do this invitation to quid. Pro Quo yes. I Gotcha I gotcha happen. And then one necessarily be all about sports might be about different stuff last thing. I just. It's not even a question. Just a statement. I'll see you Monday night. We'll do yeah no money based semi while we watch the game together on TV. All right thanks buddy..

I always knew there's I'm not gonNA get up and I always knew I met a lot of athletes and their parents always circle back to through the ability to kind of sense that there's something special by your mom about your story and I always that's why we stay close. That's what we stayed in touch connected. That's why I've I've followed everything you've done because I I sense it back then. The drive that you had the focus that you had a you know was was something that was cool to see. It wasn't just you. There were others like that but that that show which people told me do not take that show. You're stupid career move. I always use that when I talked to kids. Listen to yourself man. Let's see your heart and guy you can relate to this. Don't listen to the static what you're supposed to do what the logical step is. 'cause is you gotta get here. You gotta go all these now. It doesn't work that way careers flow the way life flows man in your face with forks in the road and Scholastic Sports America and go into ESPN to do that show which everybody advised me against doing was the decision for my professional career and put me on that path like you and learn how to write and do all these skills serve you well later even those high schools or show and I was wearing dress like this that nobody really watched. But it's amazing. How many people actually remember that show? Because it wasn't like he had huge ratings back in the eighties. But but you know that those kind of choices that they define everything about what your wife and what you really like Matthew that show for the younger audiences going. What the hell are they talking about just you you can just go on. Youtube type in Scholastic Sports America and the whole the a lot of them and so it starts with this sort of the retro logo like the race track ESPN logo. I mean it's just Ma'am and that was the very first profile morning. Yep a bunch of Olympic sports athlete. Jeff Janet Evans Rates Swimmer Made. It was so cool to get a glimpse at those athletes and then be able to follow their careers and I wouldn't trade that for anything it just. It's like the road less traveled. There's really a lot see that it's I know it feels like I saw some clips the other day and I was just like. Oh my God I'm trying to make a few bucks out for a male that wouldn't run or something if our member and you're trying to make a few bucks a triathlon. A place high enough to like keep the car. Running stories struck me though and again your mom story struck me and it was good because she was single mom and working and and immense. She didn't have to if I needed a haircut or to put gas in the car or dive dinner. She didn't have to worry about that so they it was just enough. Yeah do we have to talk about these things? But that's pretty good memory out from remember years ago I remember. I was offered getting Plano to have you know and then and then I upgraded to the IRA Z. That was quite upgrade after you start making some more like some cycling cash that was that was vanilla. Ice lived the town over. He went to Austin like the fast forward. Ssa fast forward about. I don't know maybe like six seven years. Now you're down in Austin I think about this. We have palm trees here a flatbed truck pulling up to your house with like thirty palm trees to put on the ground big Holy Shit. Yeah this guy went from like trying to put gas in the car to bring an end like landscaping that you'd see it like the Geo multiple sports cars. Hey I like I like Ponte's palm trees. Speaking of you were talking about going to school so I don't know if I mentioned this or not. So my oldest daughter so the twins so Isabelle's going to Tcu and grace's going and University of Colorado your Alma Mater. Yup She's got a smart one of the family she she will. Anna went to see you. So Anna's Anna's varietal. So she's she's following her idol there. She got into the lead school there. So she's she's going to be in on I. I have this love hate relationship with boulder. I make fun of it all the time I like. I like being. There are like the town. I I love the fact grace's going there and I can go visit there by the way I love the fact that Isabelle's going to Fort Worth and I can skip Dallas and just go to Fort Worth. It's a better part of the METROPLEX place in your heart. Boulder Your Red Zinger Man. My whole passion for cycling was stoked when I was in boulder and the Red Zinger and then a classic early bike. This amazing scene there the mortgage Bismarck. That was the circuit race outside of town. Now all track homes and mcmansions and fucked up. But now I but it's it's it's part of the skit. It's part of the stick. I should say it's just it's a character. Okay he's all these guys and gals these people in Boulder their you know their endurance people and you know every one of them is percents. Sure they're going to win the Olympics at some endurance sport and they're like the flat irons. Did I mean it's just it's this whole thing and it's not true but I have fun with it and like I said I love going there. I Love Psych. She's going so I can go visit and I don't know it's just it's just a whole thing speaking of crazy adventures. Are you still doing because there for I mean I forget the don't forget but now the breathing thing but for a minute there there was the climbing with the ice picks and all this other zoos still thing climbing I was like yeah? Let's walk up a mountain but this was like no. You're like no. I never really find ice falls with a pick. I I can use an icebox and GRANDPA things so well. Yeah those crampons. But I'm not like a rock climber ice climber thing I'm not built for that man you I I do love mountaineering. I feel like you know. Nature is sort of my temple and in the mountains of always spoken to me I. I was a kid that had posters on the wall of Everest. The Matterhorn Kilimanjaro. Climb some of those guys who climbed Everest. I've been to the base camp mountains around Everest but I I've no intersection climbing Everest because it said Shit show show us everything about the experience but yeah for me mountains or why come alive and had a place in ten thousand feet in Colorado for a long time and so yeah. I mean going back to Nepal before I'm too old to go is a life quest. Do that soon. I mean that that was a life changing experience being in the Malayan climbed in the Andes and the Alps. And that's where I feel like you know. I think we your most a lot like I'm telling you you feel most alive when you're giving everything you've got right mentally and physically i. That's what I know. What Athletes Miss About their sport? I'm sure that resonates with you but in my own little world you know diminished expectations of what what giving everything I got means no pushing. And and and focusing only on the next step at a someone that tries to embrace mindfulness and being presence and cutting out the static and being in the here and now man what brings you to that more than complete physical and mental exertion and the closest I get elites in anything is. I've written bikes you. I know what elite it feels like that and I've also hiked with you so I know that freakiness when self amount but for me like doing what I can do. The limitations of climbed over twenty thousand quite a few times inside. I know what that feels like. That is feeling alive and like these kind of times man that just that would be awesome to get back to that experience That's not I don't consider that extreme crazy it's just kinda what turns me on saw. Alex Hanalei you're not GonNa see me trying to like three climb fell cap. That's no that's not my world I mostly is kind of walking or scrambling big mountains but not like hanging on a rock. While that that Kinda thing is that's a whole nother level. He's one of the most remarkable humans ever net. That's a whole nother realm. I had him on the show. Actually probably it's been a couple of years but he mason. Yeah I watch output but I mean pre solo is incredible I can't imagine you know everybody gets so the wound up about three thousand feet that that that is true but anything you know. Pass what he told me. I think past thirty five or forty feet. You're dead anyways and so it's just amazing to me is up people who can turn off that. Parts of their brain that are fundamental to us. He just shuts down the part of his brain. That feels fear. Well he he's he's equipped for whatever re I don't know what all happened. But he's his brain is wired that way. That's that's back. They show that very clearly in the documentary that this is not a normal person like we don't by the way I hate heights so I I'm sitting on a chair basically scared so no I I was like I was sitting there like it was causing me. Physical Pain Watch him. I know it was like you know you know. He lives and the whole time. You're like in my palms twenty. People were having literally one of the premier's somebody heart attack. That's a foul. Yeah so I mean this is how this guy had the they'd stopped it and had to call nine anyhow to then go interview him at his house like you watch the movie and you see moving in this van. He's now living in the suburban home in Las Vegas. It was just before Christmas. The Christmas tree the Garland all the shit like cute. Y I did in the movie. It was his girlfriend. I'm just like dude. This is not the van life anymore. Bro This is a Christmas cards. You have to turn off. Ardy your brain when you're trying to dig as deep as you possibly can dig it in. Its alcohols two hours or something. Were you able to shut off part of your brain? That saying don't do this because that's what fascinates me about athletics. Getting in that riot the thing that more than anything else or to really fascinates me is finding that sweet spot of extreme intensity but also relaxation.

"Somebody with a massive corporation in Austin decided. You know what I'm for me. The image and likeness rights to all these players worth this much. Pay This much for it and it's just like you can't have a wild west like I don't think that's that is the wild rice. I I. Yeah I I love these other ideas that are just a little more long-term high level In the interest of love I'd have not thought about lifetime health insurance for life by the way you know when you think about and I keep a reference University of Texas because campuses maybe a mile from here. That's a rounding error as they say down here. You know there was all this talk that when when mcbrayer when they fired. Mac Brown you know there's a bunch of buzz at least here locally that. Sabin was coming and everybody. Oh no you know that's You know that could. That's going to be ten million bucks a year and And one of our big sports at the Athletic Department Sky Red mccombs. He says on he says all the money that's not at the. Vatican is at the University of Texas. So busy fucking rounding. They're going to provide health insurance for life for all sport. I'm not just forget all sports. That's around the air. That's a rally the economics of it but I think it's I think it's a good idea you brought up something about the money it's extra. Here's here's the problem. And I think this is actually a relevant question on the back end of this crisis. And you know you know this. From being in the business world the companies that went into this with momentum and health are better able to survive it and come out the other side if you limped into this crisis already on shaky ground man you get pummeled. The same thing applies to sports. And if you look at college athletics I think this is just one more example of the rich getting richer back into this. You know with recruiting has been totally disrupted which makes it harder for the smaller programs or the less successful programs to play. Catch up it. You know. Conditions like this tend to benefit the stronger and economic darwinism. I think the same thing's going to happen in football. I unfortunately because that's already been a big problem in the sport it's too top heavy and it's not there's no parity down and there's only about in the views of most people in Texas maybe on the fringe. Abyss is only about eight or ten teams capable winning the National Championship. In the view of a lot of people that hurts the sport. And and this kind of thing you just know that Alabama Clemson Georgia. Lsu eight are going to. They're going to come out fine but a lot of programs are going to be hurt much worse than that. So that's like ours. I mean just to take it straight to the street in bars and restaurants. I mean most of these most bars and restaurants or month to month and then you drop this autumn and you know the estimates are upwards of fifty percent of these places. Just don't come back like we all get out of this and you're going to go down to your corner place at you like Oh shit. They never reopened. It's going to be you know the tail on it will be will be that and yeah so just. I don't want I can't go any further because I want to know and I don't WanNa forget either but this report of of I mean let's face it Monday night football on the NFL side is an institution. And it's we've all I watch that growing up and and you know You know mom would let me stay up until halftime highlights if I had to go to bed after halftime highlights. I mean that's how embedded it was in my upbringing. All of our upbringing. And and you know they've had all these different Programming formats but now the talk or there was a report that that you and and and herbstreet would Potentially slot into calling Monday night football and of course that's an ESPN Franchise let's call it. I'm not asking you to confirm or deny you could certainly can. If you want but food firm I tell you that right after but I think it's a great look it's you and and herbstreet. I mean it is Batman and Robin. It is fucking sunny and and share. It is is share well sunny. This couple summers ago. I started doing the point guard. He's doing this with Georgian cap on my tour show and then people started asking that question like well wait a second. You know WHO's Jecklin? Who's high like who's who's you know the answer to that. Yeah who's you know all these all the you know who's Thelma and Louise like I like but anyways well listen I mean. This is the whenever the next season happens. It'll be the twenty fifth season that he and I work together on all Saturdays. That's pretty mind blowing man I. I can't think of another broadcast booth. It's been together that long. We're talking about game day Thursday night and now Saturday night. Football for the last six or seven years. So that's a pretty incredible run and you know we have a great personal relationship outside of that. I'll tell you this only talking about this because I like we've known each other for what is it you know it was. It was just slight station break. It was nineteen eighty seven. Maybe nineteen eighty-seven that's a lot of shit on between now and I don't get distracted. Keep keep going no. I'm I'm saying because I'm not addressing. This other places and people are coming every day. Look I mean I've had no conversation about the NFL. I absolutely love my gig embrace before it every day. That's not doublespeak. That's not just passing through question college. Football and tennis are my two favorite sports. We have the championship events in both sports. And I get to calm if I had drawn this up when I was ten years old and tried to figure out what my career would look like. I never would have imagined they be able to do this. So that's what the gratitude comes from. I'm not looking at change and move to do anything else. I prefer college to the NFL. It's just a fact you know I think Monday. Night is an institution there. There's a situation there that they're trying to address manage Julie. That I'm not gonNA comment on Joe Test is a friend of mine. Soy It's it's one it's one extra. This is not a grand slam doing man. It's not just pile on extra things. I don't think he can go work again. Saturday working Monday. It's one night. Look whatever I'm now I'm putting all my ESPN. I mean this is not again. You're not going to Australia for three weeks this one night. Fuck in this look much Monday night. Yeah right I do Saturday night. That's one night that's funny man. I know I'm Saturday morning so I'm geeking out I'm I want. I'm I'm happy for this and and Kate for in this day and age up because just do it by zoom out there. There's a terrible idea. We Start Calling Games from this share or some studio and not going on site. That'll fundamentally change things. I mean I see it in person I mean I how does here's maybe someday everything we'd done that but I don't really want to see that I'll be on site in a stadium in a booth and I think that look. That situation will sort itself out. I'm just really happy doing what I'm doing and I'm not looking to change anything. And and we have the rights locked up to the things that I'm involved in for a while. It's all good change then to your point. We've been friends long enough. I I know I mean it's the reason I mean the College Game Day Gig. I mean that's a grind right going. It's just it adds to it and and I know that's why you pull back from that and I and I think that's you have the right to do. I mean if you if you want that. You should do things that I I believe. In trying to emphasize quality and non new. In as many things as you can. I mean I have the ability to embrace other opportunities outside of those two sports when something comes along but I also have the ability to sort of say. Hey let's just keep it in in this round because then passionate as authentic I admire versatility but I honestly don't think that you can call more than maybe to sports and have it really feel that you can learn it you can do a serviceable professional job on the if people do it but like how many things can you really feel in your bones and call from the heart and for me. The two sports that I do are that way you do other things I could. I could do the research and spit out information and set up analysts. I think as well as most people but when it comes to calling documenting it am not looking to hate me. Try this give that a world. Well right you've been doing too long but here's another. This was anything in my notes but it. I just thought of this because I think it's tangentially related to I mean let's face it. Espn is looking for something in this spot. They're looking to make Jane. They know better than anybody. The viewership the numbers the data. Whatever and I'M NOT I. I'm happy to watch whoever because I love football on Monday night football but is this. This has to be the reason because it was also part of the report with with regard to you and Kurt. This has to be the reason that Romo got a seventeen million dollar contract. There was some bidding war between CBS and ESPN. At least that's if retirement. I'll say that that was what was the timing of the century. Go that was. That's a big number and I'm not. We'll have to comment on that number but you don't have to go too far down the rabbit hole realize that's what was going on. Yeah I mean it's pretty. It was a pretty shocking number but hey I don't think anybody. I think that I feel a lot for people in this business. Land I mean those of us who are on the air and not working can't wine about it because there are so many people in my business just like every other business who are out of work freelance people to cruise guys who run cameras. The guys who operate the trucks when there are no events they don't get paid and there are people struggling and suffering dislike in every other business and there's uncertainty but when they're going to be able to go back to work what can they expect to be able to make a buck to feed their families. I I I'm really mindful. Got All this talk about these crazy contracts and when announcers make like feels tone-deaf at this point there are so many people that are struggling and looking looking for a way to sort of help them because in every business you know it's it's not an equitable playing field right now. So I'm mindful of that. I'll ask Aikman when he thinks I'll get back to you on that. It's.

"A huge momber for those of us. That weren't depends on probably watch some vintage tennis at that point in the summer. But I don't know it's not. It's not doing it for me. I probably shouldn't say that 'cause ESPN would like everyone to watch these classic names. But I just I can't sit around here watch old sports and feel like that's a subsidy it's not live. That's not current so just checking texting Petar Fowler. Doesn't give a shit about one thousand three Kentucky Derby thanks it's lame exclamation Jim Petar. Ceo OF ESPN. But we are actually. We are doing a little bit of that with cycling. Just re bundling some old stuff. It's just kind of these iconic moments. I think that's cool. I I just I am outcome to that when the appetite really gets wrapped up for it. I just at people to act like. That's close to write watching new Champions League games for me or watching March madness or why the NBA. Which I love. That's just not. It's not a substitute man. It's okay to pass the time now. It's better than watching a lot of other stuff. It's out there but y you know you've got started it we we. Are this stop. I can't even understand how I stopped speaking to stop. I stopped watching like I got three up. I'm like what the fuck okay all. These people are fucking weird. I'm I'm done. And then then the Prescott. Then they started asking the president just like no this is anyways but it just shows you what sports house sports occupy our households our minds our time. Yes so this this talk that and of course you know here being here in Austin and the University of Texas football and being as close as I am To Sam alligator and that whole crew. It's just the idea that we're not gonNA have. I mean by the way is September is not that I mean well already spring games. You know the Spring Spring Practices Spring Games been canceled but the idea that that there will not be a regular college football season. I think people are GonNa flip the fuck out. That's one way to put it. I wouldn't argue with that. It's so important at such a part of the fabric. I mean. Football is sort of the national sport whether it's NFL college and the idea that this might interrupt that when it's still months out does freak people out I think but it's so problematic to consider at this moment. Starting the season on time for so many reasons I don't know about the I have no special insight but in college. The conversations have taken place in from being privy to a little bit of that and just some educated speculation. My best guess is that college football will happen but not in the fall. It'll happen in the spring because they'll be too concerned about a getting things up and running in August and September and then the potential reoccurrence of the virus. When the weather turns cold at the end of the season. You could start a season and then had this cloud hanging over. What if we get a reoccurrence and get things down in certain parts of the country? I think they feel better about hitting the pause button. Getting some testing in twice seem with the climate is and then starting things up at this just a guess but there are conversations going on about this late. February March April may obviously the be all kind of modification should be a slightly shortened season could be the full season would be different as they can get that regular season in get that. Tv Revenue and get a playoff racket. Happening they can probably stay. Afloat need the cash from football. Tv rights and if you cancel the season there's no football the academic twenty twenty one year. That's a disaster on the other hand man. You see coaches sand stuff that I'm not GONNA NAME NAMES. I don't have to but they're out there saying things that strike me as being tone deaf. You cannot take lightly the safety of college at. Oh yes by the way. You're unpaid workforce. Oh No we're going to get I would actually. I know I wanna get you cannot say. Hey it's they're young and strong poem back out there. They could beat this virus. This is America Nano Bro. That's that's not the way it works. No perspective is essential here and keeping priorities in order are essential which is why. I think they will not force the issue. Yup Who knows man? Some of the country will have flattened out much much better in August but other places might not be. I think they feel like that. There's a chance that having a more level playing field in terms of the conditions nationally if they just push it too early in twenty twenty one I mean. These are unprecedented times. I mean you've just even hearing you talk about that I mean that's just so I mean it is what it is but it's odd I mean. Even in our sport of cycling there was talk which now confirmed is just not going to happen. There was talk since the tour of Italy has postponed slash cancel. Everything moved off. There was talk of of creating a three week hybrid event where you combine the tour of Italy. The France and the tour of Spain later in the year. I thought that was an amazing idea. Of course all the stakeholders all the organizers and promoters and sponsors couldn't get it to get that's not gonNA happen but the you know that's the kind of thing and you're like okay. Well we can't have it'd be like Wimbledon's not gonNA happen. Let's just play pickle ball. Let's get drunk pickle. You can't think that ideally you. They get outside the box that way. Yeah is it. Is it perfect. No but but it could have given perhaps a substitute. I mean. You're going to have to think you wouldn't put football back on the field. They'RE GONNA have to be modifications. I mean you're talking about. Let's say you pray. Spring football season the draft in their. Nfl's gotTa move the draft back. Would guys like Trevor Lawrence or guys who are going to be very high graphics? Would they play a spring season running right up into? Nfl can't we? You know that those are individuals questions at the answered. You've gotta expect there's going to be modifications that can be business as usual just sliding things back a few months. And then there's a turnaround. What's the minimum amount of time to get recovered and ready for the next season in all twenty one? So there's so much that has to be sorted out but expected anything is going to be business as usual. This feels unrealistic. Don't start going all boasts on me this. You know skipping the season to preserve your staying doing that. I'm just saying that that's that's a personal. There's a lot of what is I'm just saying there's a lot of. I've never been in that position. There's a lot on the line for them. So that's not. Yeah let's let's just be 'cause I know you touched on the NFL. I want to get to that and just say there was a report a few days ago about something you might be involved in But let's just spend just a second on stop. Don't don't you know what I'm talking about but this I know gender whatever you want but or you can just confirm it. That'd be great to will break it open right here but let's get first before we get to that this idea of. I'm very passionate about this. This this idea of of the NC Double A. Student Athlete Right. And and the the you know take a program like the University of Texas or nervous Alabama or USC or or it doesn't matter where it is I mean generating literally billions of dollars for these institutions Real I mean obviously you know. They experienced those games the highs the lows etc the teamwork the camaraderie the education. But I think it's important. We have to find a solution. I'm not saying we pay these kids right but I think there has to be. I just don't think it's fair. I think they ride the backs of these kids too hard and I just don't think it's fair. I think there has to be. I'm not saying you know. Let's all negotiate and pay them. You know whatever but there's gotta be something whether it's a trust something in place if they complete for I don't know it just feels it feels like it can't it can't go on like this. I agree it's complicated. It's problematic every time you come up with solution. There's other problems that stemmed from that that you gotta think about an advanced. I've heard some good ideas Guy Called Yogi. Roth works for the PAC. Twelve network is a friend of mine said something months ago that I thought made sense and now it really comes into play with the Times. We're in right now because I I. You can't just throw cash. It's not a good idea to throw cash at a college kid and expect that you're gonNA use at the best possible way. You can use that to secure your future. Probably not. I didn't when I was in college. It a few bucks you spent but you know maybe stipends if you get your degree you it's a sliding scale the closer you get to your degree the more you can get at how. `Bout Free Healthcare for life provided by the university. Some pool of cash. You Played College football. I tend to think of in terms of football which is the most punishing my opinion but it could extend to other college athletes as well. And maybe out of fairness should you if you give your body and you get a scholarship you giving your body to the cause and you've suffered the effects of that hip athletic career. Well after maybe this free healthcare for life. You should not have to get the best healthcare while your student athlete. You're a player. You get the best healthcare because we want you back on the field right once. You're out of the program. Would you gotta fend for yourself right at navy free healthcare for life to deal with all the things that that's an idea that's a serious benefit to that? Of course. Yeah more sensitive. Here's a here's five hundred bucks a week for you. Stipends make sense. I don't I think that we D- paying players though for image weakness which has been the this is on the forefront of this conversation and lots of states have an active real. I mean if you think about that. Thirty seconds knowing the Landscape College sports knowing the way that people will benefit exploit. The rules are just flat out. Brigham it's fraught with problems man. I mean you're GonNa say you're going to throw this up into the free market you're involved in that world. Let's say there's a free market system and now players can make money on their name and likeness and it becomes an issue in recruiting or some company in Birmingham says. Hey Man right for US market value for your name and light you see if you sign with Alabama one hundred grand in your pocket. I'm paying for your name and likeness now. This guy was playing. Safety was never gonna be never going to be actually worth that. But who's to say you don't have some kind of regulation in some way to control the market. You can't just have wild west but here comes some coming baton rouge. You're worth one hundred and twenty two US so now it's a bidding war right you your local hire shop somebody in Austin such somebody with a massive corporation in Austin decided. You know what I'm for me. The image and likeness rights to all these players worth this much. Pay This much for it and it's just like you can't have a wild west like I don't think that's that is the wild rice. I I. Yeah I I love these other ideas that are just a little more.

"All RIGHT EVERYBODY. Welcome back to the forward podcast. My guest this week is Chris Fowler. This is a guy that I first met. Oh Man I think about this. I met Fowler in night. Probably nineteen eighty seven. So it's been a long time The host of show on ESPN ESPN was just a small we think of ESPN NOW. Like you know the major network which it is of course this back in the day. This was a very small cable channel. he was on a show called. Scholastic Sports America that featured a bunch of up and coming young athletes I was on there. Janet Evans was on their Emmett Smith Alonzo Mourning etc etc. So valor would travel the country in an interview and profile these young athletes and I met him way back in the day and of course his career Went to be Are the places that it is today which is kind of legendary and we've maintained this relationship. He gamed most of the tours that I one is a great friend. Great Mentor Through it all quite frankly and so Great to catch up with him in quarantine. This is one we had to do. via zoom which is sort of non traditional for us. But get into a lot of things that frank too. I didn't think he would. WanNa go there on How we compensate college student athletes You know with the dog the talk of of him and curb street Moving over and also calling the Monday night football game which I think is huge news that just the speculation around that just came out. He answers all these questions and so also gets into some of his stuff that he's been working on. I didn't know that he was Had jumped into Wim. Hof BREATHING TECHNIQUES UP TO THREE MINUTE. Breath hold talks about that and what that does to the body and the mind Fascinating conversation so I really appreciate Chris. Coming on Before we get into it just just a big shout out to everybody pitching in here. You know that that's not that's always a messy job at a time like this semester. The people stock on the grocery shelves The people driving public buses public transportation. These are all things that we take for granted time like this. Nobody's you shouldn't take that for granted so big shout out to them. I know when I saw the boys when I was out My job this Mornin I just said Hey guys. Thanks for the work. You're doing it's a you know it's not anything that again. I think we take it for granted. "Are we put up West Extending Christian? Mccaffrey a good move or a bad move. Okay EARLY RESULTS. Say Good move fifty five percent say they like it. Well we'll go around the room. Paulie like it. No I don't like the entire concept of drafting. A running back high and then pat to paying mcgann it just. It defeats the purpose of low at low and running backs. Low cost runningback fritzy. What about you? I understand? They could have waited but I like it. I think he's they've faced with the team and he's the the whole thing about the running back and we're kind of down clean. How important running back is these days? But I'm on McCaffrey and Pagan mclovin. I don't like it because I got to stick to my guns about not paying running backs although I do like McCaffrey because he was so nice to us at the Super Bowl. I shouldn't factor in with how you're voting seeding. I mean I understand the football part of it and not paying your running back. But there's plenty of quarterbacks who don't deserve the money they're getting and will not no one really complains about that. And they're making twice as much as Christian. Mccaffrey yeah I'm all about. Let's get the running backs in doe. Well I'm glad he's getting paid because he's he's earned it but you can't pay with what you think. Somebody's going what somebody did. You have to pay with what you think they're going to do. And what is he going to be doing here in the next couple of years? And how much do you load up on McCaffrey? Because you're not going to be a very good team. He's the voice of College football for ESPN ABC and also tennis hosted for the mothership. As well Chris Fowler on the program. Good Morning Chris. How are you Dan? I'm I'm well. I'm very very blissful very relaxed this morning. So my My breathing exercises which is a daily ritual and quarantine. So I'm relax. Don't don't talk too loudly too quickly. And and don't you know don't be angry virtual and we'll we'll do just fine okay mattress. I assure you it's a natural high. You Watch any college football replays or anything. Is it doing it for you? I know I watched the Texas. Usc Game The Rose Bowl classic game much I sit on the sidelines and watch Vince. Young run to the pylon was abated. Came up ever seen so. Espn ran that the other week. I did watch it. I have not been dialed into the Classic Games. I know people are starving for it and that's able to fill the void for them. It's not doing it for me. I I am missing live sports. Maybe not as much as some people as much as I thought I was but I am not lead to youtube or ESPN classic Locked in. I'm probably shouldn't say that but I don't know I I. I probably will watch some win. Vintage Wimbledon when it gets around time. I'll be missing that. Obviously we don't start football on time. I'LL BE I'll be starting for it. I'll probably be probably watch. Lsu CLEMSON ten times. But I haven't done a lot of that yet. I let's jump into it then. You mentioned that we're twenty Saturday's way from the scheduled start of college football and you threw out some questions there. You also said informed speculation here so where do you WanNa start with the college football season? Well people all over the place. There's no consensus just like when you hear. The experts differ on how to deal with this virus going forward. There's no two people on the same page in college. Football Commissioners are having these regular conversations. Coaches are doing their thing. Each athletic director has its own. Take depending on where they are in the country. So we're not going to know a lot for a while. I think the clarity will begin to happen during. May but I just don't get the sense that the country is GonNa be in the same place and these programs and these conferences are going to be at the same place in in late July August when you absolutely have to get players back on campus. If you're gonNA play what People WanNa to hear but I think there's severe challenge is trying to start a season on time. And if you don't do that like what's and everybody wanted that's what you hope for. God. We hold for things but I hope isn't a strategy to what she got through and facts right. We've already seen that. So what's realistic and I don't know if if it's really realistic to gather in. Twenty Saturdays and have a national season. I mean you're GonNa have a lot of colleges online exclusively the summer the campus is what need to be open so I bring this unpaid workforce back in there and say hey. We're playing games without a bunch of people going. Wait why are we? What do we do? Is this so a lot of questions. And not very many answers with the idea of a delayed season even a even a season early in twenty one in the spring which seems radical people to others. Find it just undoable but it might be a way to salvage football in the calendar. The school year. I should say if it can't be salvaged in the ball. Informed speculation informed speculation on. What in particular. You were talking about. Well what what's GonNa Happen? I mean what are the challenges to getting things up and running on time? There are a lot of them I mean. Do you think this is in the same place in New York and California in Louisiana and Texas and Ohio and Pennsylvania and Florida Utah for all over the place. You know this this this viruses cresting at different places. Different places in the cycle. I mean you know the south really hasn't been hit yet but do you think is gonNA BE STATES. That are spared. People are doing this in the lens of where they are and not realize. They look at fifty governors only have to sign off for football to come back. And I've been told that not every single athletic director and commissioner has to be exactly on the same page but what if one area of the country is totally different from another but if the West is ready to open up quicker but the northeast of the big ten. Isn't I mean what are you GonNa do? You can have a partial season. It doesn't make any sense to me so I mean I know that there's GonNa be no perfect solution. Dan and I know that people will go crazy when they think that we can't wait until February or March but if you need the revenue if you operate under the assumption that these these conferences have got to get on the field at some point or revenue loss is going to be catastrophic to the whole Athletic Department. Not just football then. You're not dealing with ideal scenario with desperation and trying to make it work. That's why he's Chris Fowler the Voice of College football for ESPN and ABC. I'm also wondering no Chris. Do we minimize the regular season? And maybe try to maximize postseason and that we do make that leap from final. Four to eight or sixteen. Everything's on the table. Everything's on the table because he's such charter times and nobody knows what's what's the best thing to do if you if you start the season late. Let's say you're not going to be ready August. You start the season in October November. You cut some games you you you alter the postseason. I don't think there's going to be thirty bowl. Games played a lot of these scenarios but the playoffs. What's important? That's where the dollars are the big balls. So yeah you can short Mris and you can do the non conference. That's been talked about two. Everything's been talked a lot of all. This is on the table. But I don't know I mean you hear. The conversations are going on in other sports are even more radical. What's going on in college? Football just in the desperation have a baseball season. What they're talking about what the NHL is contemplating The NFL is going to get heavy political pressure to start on time and operate normally and you know a lot of these owners will feel the financial pinch believe it or not a super wealthy. You take away that revenue they're gonNA FEEL TANGENT. They don't have the season on time the network so apply pressure the. Nfl is far less complicated than college. Football though nothing is complicated and getting all everybody together and up and running this college football. I mean there's no central control and that's that's part of the problem a lot of cases. Yeah that's my big big concern here is you? Don't have that one voice. You Know Adam silver with the NBA Rob Manfred with Baseball Roger. Goodell with the NFL. And then you get to college football and you go well. That's what's going on. You're having the power five commissioners who are not the deciders but they're the ones that have to get together and run the scenarios and be ready for whatever is decided that but you know they they tell me you know the the municipalities disgrace. They're the ones shut things now. And they're the ones that have been turning things back on and so you've gotta listen to you know the governors and the mayors of cities like San Francisco New York and Chicago and Dallas. And those are the ones that are gonNA decide that you know the states. You know this battle back and forth you see play out at these briefings the last couple days. I mean states are saying. Wait a minute we decide. What'S RIGHT FOR US? And the city is in fact. Specifically we're GONNA decide what's right for us going forward and and that's the way it's GonNa be so that's what I that's why started with. How are you going to be on the same page? Who knows was going to be like when the state's not yet affected really begin to to build in these numbers. Well then you have a rush to get back on the field and then a lot of coaches just saying stuff. They're tone deaf so wait. You're the one has breathe. You're the one that was in zen like mood now. You're like you're getting a little round up here. I can depressed breath then you have you know Mike Gundy and then you have Davos weaning. Throw this out. We're coming back and like some. Somehow we can. The Corona virus doesn't affect US or. We're GONNA come back. I and I went. And we can't have these proclamations here. We can't go roy no you. Can't I think that that's the thing though that the coaches are paid to be ready for any scenario and they have to plan and get ready for an on time season? Because that's that's the first scenario that's on the table as unlikely to some people that seems. That's what you have to plan pry. I talked to a bunch of coaches. I'm going to do another video. On what kinds of programs are going to be able to come through this in stride and what are really going to struggle. What does it take within the program to to weather this and so and trying to get their opinion? It's obvious that they are preparing for an on time. Seasonally half when you have to be hopeful and optimistic. That's what coaches are. But you also have to have perspective and and a sense of priorities and these are not pro athletes man if your campus is closed if your campus has say it's not ready. We're not ready for students to come back. Why football players get your butts back in your which you in quarantine. We'll take your temperature every day. You're going to prepare to go out and perform so we can get this cash cow flowing again. Wait a minute..

How Tua Tagovailoa changed Alabama football forever
"On Saturday. Near the end of the first half and a game against unranked Mississippi State Alabama Alabama quarterback Tua Tunga Vilo was severely injured. It was later reported. He dislocated his hip and suffered a posterior wall fracture. He's having surgery today and will miss the remainder of the college football season. If not longer. Now it's upsetting to see any athlete at any level. Suffer an injury like that but when it happens to to a player like to a it's especially difficult to watch because we know what's at stake when I saw the visual of him being carted off the field. I was reminded of the night. We saw Diane Brian. Williamson's sprain his knee in college. Like Zion tool was a lock for a top draft pick which should have given him the chance to earn millions of dollars in the near future and likes I on his injury will invite a good deal of scrutiny. Because it puts that future jeopardy in fact seconds after to a left the game people began to ask. Why was the quarterback just a few weeks removed from ankle surgery? Even on the field team was up. Thirty five to seven are Chris. Fowler Kirk Herbstreit. Had this to say article was that tried to send the guy out there to beat. Mississippi state at the risk of his career. Career has sought what they're saying that. I do think that you're with US affected. Your opponent has no chance to stop. Maybe it's a prudent thing into sit about. Maybe it's a thing to pull them out and it's not that it's more for me. Why was he on the field at the beginning of the game? And you give tails recovering from Alabama coach. Nick Sabin later said it was meant to be too as last series he also said to a wanted to go into the game and look. That's not surprising. Anyone who's watched to over the last two years knows he is a fierce competitor. And one of the the toughest quarterbacks to ever play college football but even if he didn't want to go back into this game or any game this season that wouldn't have made him any less tough because when college players Games on account of injury or as we've seen happen more and more often preempt them altogether to avoid getting hurt before the graft it's not because they don't WanNa play football it's because every time they step onto the field before they get paid they risked the opportunity. Turn a living off the sport for
