"If you love NASCAR, organized crime and civil rights, Roy, do I got a story for you? Back in 2015, a rookie driver named Derek white made history as the first ever indigenous driver in the NASCAR Cup Series. Fans are on their feet here in New Hampshire but just a few months later, he was arrested in Canada's largest ever police operation. Cops had spent more than a year following his every move because they believed Derek white was a major figure in an international criminal organization. He was the front man if you will for the organized crime slash hells angels. Well, see, that's one thing that did and really do their homework. Now, Derek's fighting his charges in court, his defense relies on his rights as a native person, and the craziest thing he might actually have a case. It's not only my fight, it's the whole nation's fight. From campsite media and Dan Patrick productions, this is running smoke. Binge all episodes now on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Ramona shelburne, one of our favorites was their last night in attendance, ESPN NBA insider senior writer and for the second straight year ESPN's NBA coverage celebrates international women's day today all women led broadcast more than 70 women on camera behind the scenes, leading the NBA coverage, Mavs and pelicans tip off at 7 30 eastern on ESPN, tune in for NBA today, NBA countdown shows as well Ramona will be part of the NBA today panel at three eastern good to see again Ramona. What's that mean to you international women's day? Well, you know, for me, it's something like when I came up, I was always like the only one in the press box. Me and maybe one other person. I remember Lisa dillman from the LA times and with me and her on the clippers. And then we look rather nobody else. And now I see women everywhere. And so I think that's really cool that I'm glad we celebrated, but it's almost because we've done so much here, it's not as rare anymore. And I'm glad every night I walk into the studio, I see, I see women there. But when you were in high school or college, who did you look up to? Oh man, that's Jackie Mack. Jackie McMullen, right? So I grew up in LA and I grew up watching watching the Lakers and Boston Celtics. And so I think the first time I met Jackie McMullen when I went out to cover the Lakers against the Celtics in the 2008 finals, I tried to ask, you know, try to introduce myself and it's the first time Dan, you know me. I talk a lot, right? Very rare that I can not find words. I think I just, I could not even talk to Jackie McMullen. Jackie might name his, you're Jackie. It's like that Chris Farley character on Saturday Night Live. She's like, yes. And I don't know if people understand the imprint that Jackie McMullen has left on the NBA because I remember we played pickup basketball in Chicago during the NBA Finals. She was on my team. She was just part of the media. She was not somebody different, but she was. Right. But she just unbelievable. Like, playing college softball. We played, I played Stanford. And it was like, we made it to the college World Series, my senior year. And that was the year where they put the semifinal. They put the whole World Series on ESPN. That was the first year they did that. Before that, you had to make it all the way to the semifinals with a finals. And so like, I mean, I think that might have been my first TV appearance, right? It's just being on ESPN in the college World Series, but now it's like, turn on and there's a softball game all the time. There's people all summer long, and I'll spring long we're watching it. How would you sum up the atmosphere last night with Paul Gasol's retired? Yeah, it was awesome. You know, first of all, there was people who came back, right? So there was, you know, it was great to see Phil Jackson up on the video board. He did a video message for him. He was, he stayed mostly in a suite, but we haven't seen Phil in a lot of years here, so that was cool seeing him. I saw his whole, the entire Spanish media was there, right? I think I got interviewed by 7 outlets from Barcelona. Because he really is a national hero there, but that was interesting, 'cause he only played 7 years for the Lakers, right? And they won two titles in those 7 years. But he was universally beloved, and it's easy to forget when the last year or so of his time there. It's kind of awkward, right? They try to trade him in the Chris Paul trade and then there was other trade subsequent trade discussions. It was like kind of a messy ending there. And so he sort of right back into the family now. And I thought it was appropriate. His Jersey is right next to Kobe and right below James worthy's. And it's like, that's the kind of player pal was. Like he was, he was such a gentleman, such a great complimentary player to Kobe. Like, you could not have designed a better complimentary player for Kobe Bryant and pau Gasol. And the one thing I always remember, when they traded for him, the Lakers never did mid season trades. Never, because Bill ran the triangle. And the triangle might as well have been hieroglyphics to most people, right? Powell literally had like one meeting. He was like, yeah, I got this. Okay. Oh, wow. Because he's so smart. And I think that basketball IQ and with him and Kobe in terms of their basket like you running the triangle. It was just a seamless fit. And it was a great scene there. He had his two little kids. He had like the baby there. And then randomly at the end, this is like such a random note, but it was like something that sticks out to me. Jimmy Butler came over. I know. Okay? And I remember I was doing the math. I'm like, wait, the heat played in Miami last night. And they have a game against Cleveland tomorrow night in Miami. So did Jimmy just fly Jimmy played with how in Chicago, obviously. Did Jimmy just fly on the off date to give power a hug? That's pretty amazing. Would you rather have your Jersey retired in the rafters with the Lakers? Or just be a Hall of Famer elsewhere. I mean, you can't be in the rafters with the Lakers without being a Hall of Famer. So it's kind of a debate here in LA, right? There's a lot of Lakers who could have their Jersey retired, but they're not Hall of Famers. So Michael Cooper, for example, Derek Fisher, those guys have a lot of rings, but they're not up in the rafters because they're not in the Hall of Fame. Okay. So that's why it's like, you know, they got a lot of jerseys up there. So they have a certain standard. And they're doing it quick now too. They don't wait to retire jerseys until you go into the hall, but it was a great scene. And the only thing about how do you remember when at the end of his time there when Mike D'antoni got there and there was this big fight over playing pal and Dwight Howard together because playing the two bigs. And Mike D'antoni was like, no, it's just, it's just simple math. You can't have two bigs on the floor at one time and it's not how it works, right? And pal really was very offensive. They had one point they brought pow off the bench. You remember that? By the end of his time, though, Powell is starting to shoot three pointers. And then when he goes to Chicago and two, I think he finished up in Milwaukee and Portland, he was shooting threes. Two and threes. So you can see that evolution at the game, like he just had to change because the game changed so much. Now you have to be a stretch four or 5. If I change rosters, if I put the Lakers roster in the clippers uniforms. Okay. And I put the clippers in the Lakers uniform. How much coverage do you do the clippers get? Oh, that's a great question. Yeah, it'd be every day. I mean, even though I don't like Kawhi Leonard probably wouldn't say anything, but like people would cover him every day. And that's Paul George is a good media guy. But it's really just, it's the uniform. It's the stage. It's the bright lights. So even if LeBron was with the Clippers, the Lakers are still going

"One more break. We'll come back so today's in memoriam comes about a man named thornton jones. This was back in nineteen twenty four and the reason that it attracted me was because of what he does when he realized he was dying. I think it kind of epic. And i want to do this all right. I don't know how. I'm going to work that out with the spontaneous combustion that i'm planning but if i'm there our workday something we're sure okay. So thornton was a lawyer in wales and he woke up to find that he had his throat slit. Oh my god he woke up. Let me say that again with his throat slit. I'm gonna let you finish. And i've got a lot of questions. Maybe he his throat. I cannot get this vision out of my head. His notice slit. What does the man do. He gets a paper and a pencil and he wrote. I dreamt that i had done it. I awoke to find it true. He slit his own throat. He died eighty minutes later. He had done it to himself while he was unconscious. And an inquest. In wales delivered. The verdict of suicide while temporarily insane. Okay coming right now ever know because the only one who has stairs dead key sleep with a knife by his bed. I don't know saying temporarily insane. That maybe he had some sort of blackout and in the regular thornton jones had thought he was dreaming and did it. But i feel like as soon as that knife would touch your skin. You're waking up. And maybe he did. And that's when he wrote it down i. He slid it and he woke up. And he's like. Oh fuck gotta tell somebody. It was very courteous of him. Because i mean can you imagine the murder question onto that and they'd never find anyone right it would be maybe it'd be an unsolved murderer a we're covering on our show. Amazing i just love. I mean yes. This was in nineteen twenty four. And i feel like the older. We like the farther back in. History co wego like the better the english. Obviously if you listen to it was much better way back. When so the fact that he wrote. I dreamt that i had done it. I awoke to find true. I just think that. So poetic and beautiful over poetic is it's so nice. I really want to do that just back. In the nineteen twenties. He may have had a smaller house. I mean we don't know what it looked like. Know what had an or what he used. I didn't find anything like oh in. The knife was next to the bed or his hand. Nothing just that a man slit his own throat wrote about it and then and it was new aside while temporarily insane. Okay well. I guess it was the twentieth. So it's not like the he would brunch the phone. No no deal like telegraphs or something and i guess there's really nowhere to like. What are you gonna do right. You may as well right about it absolutely right but instead of saying oh tell in lane. I always loved her instead of that. He's like y'all fucked up. I'm gonna leave a poem about it. Jumped out at this and guess what. That's what my mom would say. Bitch i slipped my own throat. Fuck dan i don't know that's what i would say because i just imagine falling asleep in his chair because he was in his library or his office desk writing poetry as it is and he fell asleep and picked up the letter opener and slit his own throat with a letter opener. Damn it and then wrote about it and then and hide eight minutes later like feeling feeling but can order dream kind of how much you can actually get done during a chris farley movie. Yeah didn't you walk somewhere. did you try. I feel like that's time enough to get somewhere else where he can at least ask for some help and who knows how deep it was. I mean a lot but he could write feel like if it had punctured like his jugular vein. That it probably would have been much faster so this was a slow death by a throat. I feel we're sitting here. Judging dead man. I know i'm sorry thornton but i do love your final words. Do it was very beautiful trauma. I awoke to find a true so it was like a t shirt or something. Yes my. there's so many things. I could say that about all the blackouts i've had i dreamt that i woke up at seaworld. It was true footprint on my face told me i really did get in the head stranger like she doesn't have beat even spider need. Or you have. Let's all work on our poetry. I think so now we have two things. We need our death outfit and a poem more our final moments and i feel like we need to just write one right now and keep it in our pocket just in case. I know yeah. I'm going to have to do that. And it's not even that it has to be a poem. It has to be eloquent. It has to be well. Thought it's gonna take us forever like he did it while throat was slit. I'm impressed would just say fuck would just be like they would find me in some crazy position. 'cause i've been thrashing around trying to figure out what to do. I'm ready on time. I haven't written in the paper. Is it so annoyed me okay. We're gonna we're leaving. You're welcome yes by. In a moment. I get a key. Were a moment. I get you know any of these phrases to fit in the dish. Bother me then fuck. It bothers me and now. I'm a mechanical. You'll take you down anybody that's which you stands with yama be against them as well everybody getting drug and it gets crazy and I don't know i've been going to a lot of comedy shows. Recently comics are talking about. This is why when you go to comedy shows you take your phone because there's no joke you can make is not gonna i think comedy by definition like is going to paint someone or something in a not so flattering light. And that's where the humor. That's where the funding is comes in. You know you got people that either degrade themselves and slip on. Benign appeals and your chris farley themselves or you got people who say something about somebody else whatever you south park who says about everybody but that's just the nature of like jokes. There is a of the joke and it doesn't necessarily mean a disrespect or a hatred or anything like that But i was like i was saying one of the things i did hear in the articles that i guess i can see the point to Is one particular lady. I think she. She's a show runner for a proper show on netflix and And she was. It wasn't so much that she was upset with daesh appeal because she felt like the things. Dave chapelle said in the special normalize opinions about her as a trans woman. That would be the reasons why you know. She gets thrown up against walls and bathrooms and stuff like that or she arrived and things like and and get the i. I get that because definitely haven't heard dave chapelle take the stance he took on certain things or stated of things that he felt as freely as he d on. That show gave me. 'cause i've been wanting to talk about you know some of the issues with with trains and pronouns in a way we all have to adjust right now on. His pockets haven't felt the comfort level to do so. I haven't felt like.

Who are we picking Chris farley well that's not fair because you're in hell and you can get christopher. Yeah that's not fair. That's fine starry for the john. Still i feel like we still have a little bit of a hell. Optics kevin hart. Oh actually given what we know of the casting so far. There's almost certainly the final cast. We made own pulling from the super mario brothers movie casting actor. Kevin hart kevin hart as big the cat for those of you who are not familiar with the character big. The cat is a larger town purple cat whose only goal and dream in life is the fish out his best friend froggy from various ponds and the sonic universe. A game mechanic that existed for tiger. Game yes a video game. Typically about a fast hedgehog. Collecting rings includes a fat fishing cat. You think after. He fished him out once he wouldn't put him back in other panch or he would take the hint. I don't think froggy wants to be with him. Let's that's a good point if you have to trick someone into biting a hook and then reeling them in. Maybe if froggy or brad won't talk to you it's time to move on. I don't appreciate you dragging me into this. I on the other hand. John hook brad in the lip with a with a hook and then drag him to your house. Keep him forever big. The cat should do with froggy this. This feels like some advice from the demon on your shelter..

"We're not gonna have a great film if they don't make the finals and they didn't even make pass a semi the semifinals. It got to the quarter-finals. We saw picked six other teams like less. Follow these guys too. Because they're they've made the finals the last six to eight years of this cup and they're really good at soccer like europeans are next level at soccer used to people in the tournament. One goalie played for a pro team in south africa. In one of the guys played for the irish pro team. And i don't know if they actually made the world cup but like you know went went star in the world champion yearly. That was pretty exciting to see them. Play like oh. He's a really good and that was when they were probably nineteen twenty and now they became priests but overall the soccer's like it's okay. It wasn't next level level soccer. We made it look better than what was close up. Cameras like athletic. Dudes really athletic dudes Like i said some of these guys are playing. Ncwa hockey and you know we're on the track team boss college. They've done a lot of a lot of sports in la. So it wasn't it wasn't like it was boring to watch but soccer is tough like we did a basketball doc on audrey classes regularly basketball team so funny. The girls league that they're called pistol shrimp in la just the whole thing Sort of like anti-sports dockery following this team. They do win the championship. They're not great They know and they talk about how bad they are. And that's fine when you when you still investable. You're like going back and forth. There's one hundred point game the so much happening too small court. Indoor soccer stark daylight in the middle of fucking rome son's socks like players like this big and the game is like one nothing that was boring out. We just wasted not wasted role for like three hours of footage. Like maybe have like two minutes of excitement so that the soccer is a hard game to keep to do a documentary on for sure all the sports. Yes that's that's why it's unfortunate for sometimes watch it. That's why it's it's tough for. I don't know why americans don't like it as much as we do. But yeah that's not as action nid midfield like a game going on when this ball the ball is there and then it gets moved towards arms moving between these things We didn't really have access to the bench you know. He didn't have that. Mike on cameras in reserve reserved their. The fans were crazy..

"Try pitching it to Russell crowe or wayne gretzky kiana Fan to go. And i want do a summit like apple dock series on the summit series. I was looking for director do us. I would love to do that. So that's my. Those are weird buckets. Though because i have a hard time selling even it's not a common. Oh sales stuff. Like i bring in a really serious idea. A lot of exacts. Kind of like this on you though. I don't know what it is actually mean you just don't know that part of me and i i understand i think that's that's pretty normal pigeon holed in any way i i'm very happy to be comedy guy and have people approach me that way But there is certain things that i'm like it'll be really interesting. This really cool article on. I can totally see this the nfl but that's not in zone all like that in probably right. I'd probably halfway through and like let's depressing or something. So hockey is the thing with hockey's like every sport has been crazies. There's dennis rodman like michael even golf. Your golf stillborn. You know tiger or like. John haley like you're like oh my god. He's not really. Can you name a hockey player. That as i like married. The donna are like you know the cotton vegas is not really that many. Oh that's true. Pretty solid kind of guys a little bit on camera. So you're like. I can see why nobody really wants these kinds of stories. There's no like Too so that's what do we get the implant somebody. That's it the bad boy of hockey. And then then you here in arizona that that was always on the radio. I can't remember yeah. We had us from canada to maximum. Maximum tight only son. He he became a. He's now a coach or commentator. Now of the coyotes or ille- was had be line quoted. They are they really thin. It yeah Zone obviously was great. But he's a solid guy solid dad. And where's the last dance on. The image and oilers of of the eighties should be. There's not and you're like anyway. I could go onto hockey for while definitely something that. Wanna do something in hockey. I'll celebrate story worst since we're talking about like hotshots in in you know the oddball saw or the the you know the weirdos of the rodman's right of of hockey here with this story you're telling of the holy game Did you find or or did you notice anybody. That was the next beckham or had then were of them so we follow the north american soccer team. Which is a big mistake. Because americans aren't good at soccer like halfway through relaxing and we gravitated towards them because over. There there's a lot of languages that get spoke leaders teams from priests from all over the world from africa comes over and portugal and everything they play on these teams. It's a lot like Quidditch like like harry potter whether schools play each other and there was the north american team we realized halfway through. He's gonna make finals..

Maybe it's that you have made me on your on your backboard behind us so we can't have that you just want to do that you maybe you just haven't found the right person to buy yet or that you'd love to do or time isn't right or is there something like that that you have in the works in your brain. I'll totally regret if i don't push this wiser note. Weird album entry. Spirit good coach. We definitely approached it like it. The weird outfield cannot be anything. But we're it needs to be not a normal needs to like. Have something where you're like. That's so weird al. We are at alice. So incredible to me is a he. He used the line between music and comedy so well in some is. He's looked at as a grammy award winning musician in other people's looked at his stand up comedian and he'll go on comedy bang. Bang within you'll also like do election with ooh fighters you're like this guy has like embedded himself in this really weird wrinkled pop culture and somehow stuck around also if you look at his tour schedule. It's crazy weird out like does he massive tours massive stadiums. they're not always in the big cities doesn't just like do houston new york chicago in trial. And he's out it's like like colona like edmonson like the mid seven places in the midwest and you're like this guy's got it figured out he has an audience. Yeah scan must be a multimillionaire and his audience like he's met every celebrities ever wanted to he. Has you know like he plays a corny. He's dislike this guy and he also interesting fascinating life story. Parents died early from carbon monoxide poisoning. It's like it's not just three or four years and you're it's like it feels like a doctor where you want so a lot of them are already parish and they've they've worked within the church basically since altar boys is there like thirteen upwards There in their late twenties at this point and they get asked to go to rome. Rome is a really special. Not every priest gets to go wrong. We didn't set that up that while we were like priests in rome but the reality is you're getting handpicked you know from your parish to go indian at school in there like they get treated very well the accommodations Quite nice so a lot of people have to do that back at home. But i think you always have choice. I didn't get any point. You could be like free. Stay more if there's just like you if you're a doctor but yeah. There is a graduation ceremony for sure. i think after that is when you're actually in the spotlight so when you become a priest you truly then have to perform like a priest before handing out pamphlets at the church in cleaning and helping when you're after that schooling you come back you're wearing the white cloak your delivering sunday service. It's it's next level. People are coming to you and saying please. I need your lights. You're doing like it's is truly the next level of of being attached on So i think the pressures you made a comment there with Trying to tell a story or getting certain points across especially with this like you were going in and In basically filming clerical football her clergy football and discovered a new story. A different story. When you're filming things a documentary like this or any of your previous ones and you're getting the story..

"In the fan of chris farley thing lou i am your other all the other parodies the way the mind works is if you do some research in psychology of the brain. We don't have a memory where we can pull something in replay it. That's not how our mind works what we do is we have to go back in time in captured from what we think. It was for example. Do you remember your passwords. Probably not a lot of people. Forget them happens all the time. So we don't have a memory like include where we draw back. It's based upon peer pressure group. Think and much much more these parodies that people see plays a big factor in from what i remember about. My memory is technically as you dive into your own memories. You're not actually remembering the thing your remembering the last time you remembered it so i get that i get what you're saying to and and you know there's a ton there's a ton of cases that can that could go either way and like i said i don't really i don't particularly care like some of them are like you know some of them you have to put a lot of effort into and some of them blow your mind. "Live where? Chris Farley is playing the journalist who is interviewing Paul McCartney. And he keeps just absolutely making a fool of himself by asking questions of McCartney that are elementary pedestrian because he's such a big fan. Remember that time you were in the Beatles, and he slaps himself on the head. Well, I have joked over the years about once every few years. Have an interview with someone that I hold in that high esteem and it's hard to get through it. So I did all my Fanboy stuff before the interview started, but it is a real real honor. I must say on there to be hosting Angela Angelo Kota via who's writing the ruling class? Absolutely. Influenced my thought process and reordered a lot of things that I thought I knew Soto have him make time to be with us. Today is an incredible honor. It zah piece that he's written in American greatness. Quite a prolific writer, and I try to read everything I find of his. The piece is entitled Dismounting the Cove it, Tiger. Oligarchies chosen method of reopening after the pandemic shows that it intends to attempt to validate the harm it did over the previous year. Will it work? Professor. You You sort of lay out the case here. And by the way, folks, we've posted this to Michael. Very show dot com. You lay out the case here. That the oligarchs as you call him set up this Trump didn't do enough. This is all Trump's fault to get into power. And now they're there in the natural response is okay, Well, why can't you fix it? Well, Yeah. Look, um Every literate person knows. That once a man infectious disease and communicable infection infection disease enters the population once it gets rooted in the population. It will run through the population, no matter what anyone does. That is what diseases do. That's what I've always done. And this one is no different from any other now throughout history and people and have the masses, The learning ones have clamored to the to the powerful do something about the disease. The powerful have a obliged or try to oblige in a way that it has been of their own nest again. This is no different. Except that this time they really went overboard. Ah! The proof of what I'm saying is that no sooner had Biden been inaugurated. Then he spoke a bit of truth, and he said that there's nothing anyone could do tow to affect the spread of the disease. That's absolutely certain true. On, Dhere said it obviously too. To defer the question. Well, why aren't you stopping it? What fact is that for for almost a year, the oligarchs shit could Joe Biden almost had said Trump is responsible for 100,000 deaths. 500,000 murderer. Murderer. Uh, you know, I mean, just obviously false and, uh, they had to somehow. Get away from the responsibility. Number one number two is the fact that the measures they took, which gave them great power. That lockdowns are, of course, extremely unpopular and destructive. They're now in charge of an economy economies paltry. What are they going to do about it? Well, they have to open up of they have to, but I have to do with the way that preserves. Their disease, the authority of the judgment that they pronounced in the first place. So so we see this It was Kabuki dance around numbers of cases and, uh You know, half asked excuses for opening up in a half ass manner. The great Winston Churchill quotation, which you borrow. I mean, there are others who have used it. Dictators Rad two and throw upon tigers, which they dare not dismount and the Tigers are getting hungry. In this case are the Tigers, the American people? Off course where there was. No, no, no, that Tiger. I'm sorry. Are they Are they are the Yeah. The Tigers are getting hungry. Uh, is in this case is is that the American public who want answers because it's certainly not the press. No. Yeah. Look, the tiger is the pretense. That they, um the fact that the pretends Engendered. Whole bunch of expectations. And and caused a great deal of pain. I mean, I You don't want to take the the the analogy too far, they tiger is the The impossible situation that they have created for themselves. On the one hand. Oh, yes, There's this horrible disease out there and you've got to. You've got to shut down in order to fight it. Well, of course it's false. Shine down doesn't fight it at all. Um, but Now you have so you've got to open up. Um, but but opening up in the face of so called rising Case counts. Just simply impeaches. Everything they ever had to say. Now in that piece, I also pointed out one of the strategies. That is now being used in order to justify This writer of half as opening on that is the They are changing the way in which Face. Uh, the numbers are being a figured, uh, the that the concept of cases with regard to Corona virus was always plastic. It was always It's a convenient fiction. Uh, okay. Let's get to the basics here. This particular disease. Uh, because of it is what it is. Uh, Hardly in hardly inconveniences, most of the people that it infects S O. Something like 60 70% of those infected never know they are affected or confusing with not feeling all that well that day. Uh, s O We have? No As of today, we have no idea whatsoever. How many people have been infected or not? That has always been the case from the very first. What from them at the very first The wise one decided. That they were going toe use it a different definition of case they took people who were very sick. Very sick and who tested positive for the virus. And this is, uh This is a case and then they said, Well, uh, What happens to people have these cases? Well, The fact is that people were very six all forget very much thicker and they often die. So they said. Well, how many of these are getting sick and dying a lot. Oh, well, uh if you them Take that is the measure. Of the least al itty off the cove it then you get a really scary figures. You spread the figures around and you scare the living daylights out of the American people. That's what he did. That's exactly right. But you also pointed out that trying to run a precedent reverse We'll continue our conversation with Professor Angelo Kota via coming up next Michael Berry show. The Future of Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and Disney's Movie Monopoly

"I think we have to go and see twenty three right off. The top. I manage just told me that she read a thorough examination of the announcements made at this this weekend event. How are you feeling. Are you excited about the disney plus era upon us yeah but you have to do this. Julia minoshe from nonfiction chris farley watched non-fiction. You can just look blog. I clarified clarifying. I i think for disney and for me <hes> possibly in different ways you know disney has a strong brand as we know and it is quite articulate clearly articulated ticketed in this and i think that there will be many people including parents and star wars fans who have end marvel fans watch look forward to and i will be sending ending my streaming money elsewhere very interesting not surprising take from chris you are the coast of a podcast called the watch a long running podcast a hot. It looks closely a culture at large but particularly television a lot of t._v. Shows and disney plus. Here's my take on them. Don't care. I'd like to talk to you guys about the movies that were announced cheshire. Okay aside from the mandatory and i do care about this. Say which i care about all the there are two more stories memories t._v. shows. I'm sorry yet theoretically the mental learn is the only thing i have a clear percents of what it is and what it's going to be which actually does feel like the star wars show that we should have had like twenty five years ago very like <hes> grounded in the dirt small character look as opposed to the intergalactic battle kind of t._v. Show the other shows. I don't even know what are those shows. Isn't there a urine mcgregor. Obi obi wan the whole thing right. I think he's lovie wine. Even as i was saying it out loud i was like oh got him getting the names right. Am i getting the names right. Have you guys like a mandate. We're going to do a star wars episode so you should host and she she has ever told you. The story of this is a fun game to play. If you're like in a car and really board is you can ask you just tell you the plot of a movie a husband and i do this sometime and we maybe we should just do a podcast sometimes because it's really wild what people remember but famously i was asked to do the plot of star wars and i gave the entire plot with like intense analysis of the sexual tension between luke and leia and then also hans solo and the trash chute and all this stuff and just like did not mention the desktop the sexual tension between hansel and the trash chute. We are in russian. Oh yeah and i even got but at no point. Did i mention like the death star them blowing it up like the central plot of the movie just didn't exist in my brain spoiler. Sorry we have revealed views here officially that the death star is destroyed and star wars a new hope very sorry to everybody who hasn't seen episode four chris. Would you make the movie news non non non star wars edition so we got some moral news. We got a little look at the lady and the tramp live action yeah so for most of my life. Disney has been like a non factor <hes> it was a i never really grew up in disney household and a lot of these <hes> sort of legacy titles. Don't really mean a lot to me. I don't even know if i actually seen bambi like for instance. <hes> so a seminal event in movie history interesting to have the doorway into disney is marvel and star wars for me but now being introduced to this huge volume play and that that is kinda gonna come attendant with all this stuff and one of the things that we probably talk about when we get into the summer movie awards. That's been kind of confusing for me. This summer is having take things like aladdin seriously. You've been doing that no but it's like that takes up a lot of airspace. Have you seen either aladdin no yeah so you're not taking taking it serious. Oh i'm not taking it seriously but wouldn't you say that it plays a larger role in like pop culture in general because of the like the volume of the megaphone is that much louder pre everything builds everything else and now you've got these three things that disney legacy titles marvel and star wars say nothing of pixar and everything else that take up. I mean this is what you're saying a stranglehold on your brain. It's like sixty five percent of the airwaves man. It's true although in nineteen ninety-two aladdin was a big deal to so if you were hosting the watch which i don't know what would it have been call one thousand nine hundred smells like teen spirit yeah exactly if you were hosting smells like teen spirit the podcast you can get out of your windows media player six days to download it would still be forced to talk about and in some form or fashion but you're right the the the amount of mindshare that they have right now obviously is overwhelming and this is. I mentioned this biennial event. It doesn't happen every year the fact that it happened at this exact time while we're going through a me when wesley just had this conversation last week on the show we were like we are being choked out. You know brock listener has come to choke out with content. You guys get that referenced. I it's about wrestling. It's he wasn't in fighting with my family to today. Thank you to too much time on this podcast. I it is interesting like i could not help but see the announcement black panther too and just how far away that is. We are a thousand days away from black panther too. That's a long time. It's a it's become a cliche to say. We're all gonna be dead by then or the world will be on fire but it's possible that some things are significantly different culture at large a thousand days from now. We may not even have t._v.'s in one thousand days i don't. I don't know what's coming so to be planning that far ahead for something thing particularly something that is so anticipated yeah. I thought it was so strange. I thought it was almost like teasing away. That's funny because i had the opposite reaction which she's like this thing that we have been predicting for a long time which is disney as monopoly is here the this we have seen the realignment of the studios and the streaming services and kind of what the big names are going to be and we have been like well disney's just going to own everything and disney will have this movie and disney will have the streaming service and the men were in all of this i._p. And this was just the confirmation a certainty of okay they have consolidated. All of the i._t. Is together they have their distribution plan ready and disney plus and what what we expected to happen is going to happen and i have an easier time imagining how black panther too is going to fit into entertainment as we consume consumer than i do like basically any movie that a traditional movie studio is releasing or even most of the t._v. Shows on basic cable at this point but i think that the interesting thing that came out of some of these announcements between black panther being nine hundred days away and spider man being excommunicated from the is that there are a lot of people waiting on line. You know what i mean to get in to get their big screen time. There's a lotta characters. There's a lot of filmmakers producers who are all like so. This was a a huge hit and we've got to wait like four years and my guys gotta be in like a couple of thirty seconds spots and post credit sequences of the internals. That's you're telling me it's like that. I'm not single. Black panther would walk away from you. I don't think he michael jordan's. Not gonna get did going to do that but the spiderman thing i thought was indicative of indicative of so he being like let's go let's. Let's do another one most definitely but i think it's because while i think what you're saying is right that the playing field is kind of settled in a way that it's at least for the next next six to twelve months is going to be disney versus net flicks and then h._b._o. Max will come along and then you know. Universal will clarify what they're plays for the most part we we know what the short-term clarity around things but three years from now. I don't know if there's going to movie theaters close three years from now. I don't know if we will have have forty five hundred movie screens three years from now so getting that far ahead of ourselves. I think you're right chris that there's a desire to kind of plant flags. There's there has been mark. Harris has been writing about about this for coming up on ten years. Now this sort of like we plant our flag on a film that we don't even know what it is seven years ahead of time black panther too in particular those struck me as weird because it might be after the rise of skywalker. Maybe avatar to the most anticipated movie that exists that we're aware of world is that i am. I overstating it to say that will add. I think the avatar to is a good example. I mean not that. It's going to go black panthers. The wait between black panther one and two is nothing nothing resembling avatar in avatar too but it is indicative the fact that i think that like without seeing a single piece of footage. I think a lot of people are like. Does anybody still care about avatar. I was gonna ask coup is anticipating. I've talked to you besides get mine. I don't now i don't know but underestimate james cameron at your peril because this is what happened with titanic and this is what happened with avatar people were like is this going to be good. I don't know if i care about this and then boom biggest movie of all time and then biggest movie of all time twice he did that twice. People were like i don't know he lost his fastball. He's a weirdo. He loves to play with his toys doesn't understand humanity so i i wouldn't underestimate cameron trouncing

Adam Sandler performs tribute to Chris Farley on "Saturday Night Live"

"It was I forgot to watch it with what's his face did Adam Sandler. Yeah. I forgot all about how was it? Good. Well, one of the things I didn't know any talk about it in his monologue. At the starts his first time back at SNL since he was fired. And like what oh Sandler got fired. I didn't just rock got fired. And Chris Farley got far they all get fired at the same time. I'm like speaking of being on crack, I think Lorne Michaels must have been on crack is that would be three of their stronger characters. But sadly did a really nice song. It's from his Netflix special from last year where he did this really nice tribute song, Chris Farley and had this need to kind of. Slide show wasn't a slide show is an actual vignettes of his greatest moments on SNL in the movies. He did. And they everybody was pretty touched by that. You believe in twenty two years since Chris Farley died and believable, right? Yeah. Boozer boozer Drucker. I think wasn't the story behind him died of a drug overdose. I what and create. I I'd love that guy. I love that guy for just the I love the way he just sort of change what they were new. There was so many things that he did like Robin Williams at the start of interviews or at the start of shows that they would have, you know. Okay. Here's the script. And they sort of look at it going. I don't fucking keep into that. I got my own idea. You know, I got my own idea. And I love that. That's my mantra man that is my mantra that they just had the right amount that dual in particular had just the right amount of breaking character legless Merck's, but they powered through most of the time is usually Sandler that was breaking character and Farley would just keep ROY. Rolling right through it. And I thought they did at just the right amount. Versus Jimmy Fallon who seemed to.

Burt Reynolds, star of "Boogie Nights" and "Smokey and the Bandit," dies at 82

"It Burt Reynolds movie star who played it for grins dies at eighty two. And they talk about well right here. The ex-jock jock from Florida starred in deliverance and boogie nights. But preferred making such populist fun fair as smokey and the bandit the Campbell run and starting over. That's that's kind of what he always loved doing until much later in his career. And he was the biggest box office star in the world at one at one time. Yeah, this is well written. I read part of this again, this is Hollywood reporter Reynolds who received an Oscar nomination when he portrayed porn director Jack corner in. Boogie nights. Nineteen ninety seven was the number one box office attraction for a five year stretch starting in the late nineteen seventies for five straight years. Wow. Half a decade, and obviously before and after that still enormous, but I mean, number one for half a decade. He died this morning at Jupiter medical center in Florida. According to his manager. This is a little sad though, beloved by audiences for his brand of frivolous. Good old boy fair the playful Reynolds rarely was embraced by the critics the first time he saw himself in boogie nights. He was so unhappy he fired his agent he went on to win a Golden Globe. But lost out in the Oscar supporting actor race to Robin Williams for Robin Williams role in goodwill hunting, and they say it was a very bitter disappointment for Burt Reynolds. And then he had said this. This was later in a memoir called. But enough about me Burt Reynolds says I didn't open myself to new writers or risky parts. Because I wasn't interested in challenging myself as an actor. I was interested in having a good time. As a result. I missed a lot of opportunities to show I could play serious roles by the time. I finally woke up. Up and tried to get it. Right. Nobody would give me a chance. Yeah. So he wasn't entirely satisfied with his career. But it's just so funny because my God he was like the ultimate movie star required for quite a while. And he was married to Lani Anderson. How many times was he married? Didn't he marry Sally field or were they just an item? I can't even remember, man. I can't I don't know. And you said he was married to Lani. I believe you. I wouldn't have known if he was only dating her. Messier divorces in Hollywood. Did they I think they did? Yeah. I didn't remember any of it. But. And it's weird that he hated himself in boogie nights. I thought he was I thought it was good in boogie nights. I guess he did maybe just didn't like the rule. I dunno. I thought it was good. I thought he was kind of like a like a tragic figure in that movie. I remember a funny thing. Now, you know, these are like these old Hollywood stories. So who knows if this is true? But this this is what I once read that both. He and Clint Eastwood. Were under contract for so many movies. And this is like before they were huge. They were not movie stars yet. But they were under some small contract for so many movies from the same studio, and they both get called into the office by this big shot at the same time. And he was tearing up the contracts paid them off whatever it was a small thing. They weren't they weren't big movie stars yet. And the way that they were both let go the story had it that he pointed. I at Burt Reynolds and said, you you can't act and then points at Clint Eastwood and said, you your Adam's apple is too. Big. You're out and he gets rid of. And the story was that they walk down. All I want this to be true. They walked down the hall. They get into the elevator. They're both quiet for second. It's only them and Burt Reynolds says man, you're the one I feel sorry for and Clinton says why Bert says, well, I can always learn to act. You can't do a damn thing about that. Adam's apple. Typical always a jokester. I hope that's the true story. But freaking knows. All right. Well. This is like one of those deaths where wow, it was huge name. I guess it's not one that like totally crushes me or gets me really upset not saying anything bad about the guy. I bet my mom will feel really
