"Why Tremblay everyone Chris Evangelista? Hello, folks. So Chris has a review for this movie on the site. But Chris what is your brief thoughts on vendors and game? It's good. I liked it a lot more than Infinity war. I really liked how conclusive it felt. I mean, obviously, it's not the end of the MC you. But it unlike a lot of the other movies, and the MC this movie felt like for lack of a better term immovable. To me it had a clear beginning, and it had a clear ending didn't just, you know, the ending wasn't just like get ready for what's coming next and actually closed a lot of stories off. And I really liked that about the movie, by the way, Chris, I know a lot of people that listen to this podcast that like the marvel movies, and they they were so happy that you gave this good review. And then in your brief review, you it seems like you are trying to troll. No, there's no no first of all. No, there's no trolling in my writing. And I get very angry. When people say that, I'm just giving you my honest opinion. Okay. Brad. You also did it you did a spoiler view, which you can find say I'm gonna link both these in the show notes. What did you think of this movie? Yeah. I I love this movie. It is a miracle of a movie it's this incredible combination of all these marvel movies that resolves care threads from pre. Movies. But also gives the hero's something to go through within a this space. That is just the the installment of endgame like Chris says it has a beginning middle and end, and it really has important arcs for the characters within this single movie. But it also does a fine job of ending. What has come for the characters in the preceding installments, and it's just it has everything you ever want from a big, you know, blockbuster spectacle like this. It has huge action. That has a big beating heart has genuine emotion. It's very funny. And it's just I it's one of the most memorable theatrical experiences that I've ever had. It's just something. I enjoyed thoroughly. Yeah. The Bax that future. Trilogy is some of my favorite films. And this reminds me a lot of back with future to in many ways in that, you know, involves time travel also if feels like a bunch of different movies like that first forty five minutes feels like this dire. Pless kind of a take on things. And then the middle part is this, you know, backs feature to style time travel adventure. And then the last part is like this huge destruction filled action sequence, which is is a lot of fun. And to to me like, I feel like, you know, this is a conclusion does feel like a bookend to the films that we've seen before it. But the thing that I really enjoy about this movie is also feels like a tribute to all those films like we get to go back to some of those moments. And it's it really has great moments for all the characters are or at least the the prime characters here. HT? You're the only one who has not gotten to a chance to talk about this movie either on the podcast or on the site. So feel free to go along. What did you think bad? First of all still my line. This is a miracle of a movie. But okay. I am an all of this movie. I also one of the people who didn't really enjoy Infinity war because it didn't feel like a movie to me, but this deals both like a movie, and like like you were saying Peter just a tribute to all the eleven years of storytelling that we've seen. It's amazing to me that it is able to act on both of those levels. We see it working. So well, as this small more intimate character film, and yet is able to tie in an wrap up all these arcs that have been going on for a decade now. And that to me was just so amazing to see. And I really liked the first half of the film. Actually, I didn't expect it to take quite it's time. And I love when movies get pon ponderous and almost meditative like that. I really liked that explore exploration of grief and trauma and the idea that these heroes half failed earth and have failed..

"May the force be with you. Peter and writers watcher and buoy everyone in Chris Evangelista. Hello, folks. So we have a lot unpack here. We just got done covering the Star Wars Episode nine presentation from Star Wars abrasion. I think we have a total of like nine or ten articles on the site from this that we have produced in the last like couple hours alone. Right. But I guess we should begin at the ending. The ending was the trailer that they presented onscreen. You know, if the end of the this panel, I guess let's start with reactions. Jacob what is your reaction to the trailer a digit Abrahams movies, always cut into really good trailer as the guy's a helluva filmmaker and this trailer, you generally exciting. It's exciting to cares back together. It's exciting to see how. Well, he stated action. It's exciting to see new worlds Star Wars Cleveland sort of boggy foggy planet. We haven't seen before is stuff mistrial after genuinely exciting to see thrilling the watch. You know, we'll see where the story goes by in terms of like a piece of marketing this. Let's get me excited. I'm excited yet seems to me like this trailer trying to sell a couple of things it selling the idea that this is the final installment of the Skywalker saga films it selling it seems like jayjay it's JJ. It's JJ responding call that criticism about you know, force awakens being a echo of new hope like it seems like we're seeing all sorts of new world here. None of which we've seen. Prior in the Star Wars saga. I don't think that desert planet is Jackou or tattooing. I think that's a new planet, and we are seeing most of the main cast. I'm actually kinda surprised that we didn't see rose Tico. We did see a way Endo who looked like he was having so much fun back in the cockpit of the money and felt and we'll we'll talk about the shots and stuff later. But I was really I really enjoyed this trailer. I think you know, he leaves us on some very breath-taking shots that makes us ask questions and in. We're gonna get to this questions in this podcast each t-. What did you think of the trailer? Yeah, there's a great energy to this trailer. It's so Connecticut and dynamic, and I think that like you said, Peter, it doesn't quite echo the preview the first trilogy as much as a force we wake sit there aren't that many shots that are, you know, tuna Daljit or anything it's very much feels like it's moving forward except for like a final shot. We'll talk about later. I'm sure, but I do like that at the beginning of this trailer opened on a raise heavy breathing, which was a nice, call back to first force awakens trailer. Sure, Chris, I think you're the only one here that might have not loved the stroller. I really liked this trailer for almost its entire length..

"That's me senior writer, Ben Pearson. Hey, what's going on writers wide trend? Buoy everyone in Chris Evangelista? Hello before we get into this. Brad. You're missing yesterday. There was big Ghostbusters news. What? Yes, did you hear this and Reitman is making Ghostbusters three what? And I know you are sad that you couldn't be on here to you know, say what you thought. So I'm giving you a minute right now. Go, okay. I am cautiously optimistic about this. I feel like Jason Reitman hasn't necessarily shown that he has the ability to tackle material like this. But I think his comedic sensibilities. Definitely aligned with the the more ri- dry humor that made the original Ghostbusters. Great. And since you know, he he grew up around Ghostbusters at his father's Ivan. Right. And I think that gives him at least, you know, some insight into how to make a movie like this. And you know, every every now, and then a director has a style switch and a gearshift and living. This could be opportunities for him to tap into a different kind of movie. And I don't know. I'm just hopeful that something cool can be done with this franchise as as a die hard Ghostbusters fan. I'm always down for a new Ghostbusters project. I'm I'm willing to give this one a shot. See whether they can do with the teacher doesn't really give us much to go on. But I do like the mystery it creates so far. I'm just I'm thinking too. It's going to be something that kind of turn maybe like, Dan Acuras character into like a doc Brown, and there's a kid who kind of like his mardi mix lie and the other three kids are his friends, and obviously, you know, busting ghosts comes into play and all that jazz. I'm like, I said cautiously optimistic coping. For the best will Jason Reitman said in the past. If he made a ghost of film, there'd be no busting. I think it was just joking. Yeah. I'm pretty sure that's not going to be the case. Yes. Okay. Let's get into what we are here for him the reins over to Jacob because we're doing another writer's room episode, which is very popular with our listeners Jakup. Go ahead. Tirona Bosa ranking and arguing and talking about lists. Because we're here talk about our twenty five most anticipated new shows of two thousand nineteen so don't look for any returning shows we Ridgely thought including those, but it's like it's kind of thing like if you include game with their own season that goes right to the top, though suspense, no fun. We all know it exciting. That's ending. So if there's a show, that's you know, it's coming back that you're excited for a won't be on this list. This is all about new stuff. You learn about new stuff. I think that's more exciting. Yeah. I think so too game on his back as April it would've it would've been my number one we doing returning schotz. So what are we going to do is? We're gonna follow a similar pattern to our previous writer's room episodes where almost will review the whole this real quick. We'll do a few you know, obvious no-brainer must be under listing. Then we'll nominate and discuss and sort of, you know, working listen, both ends what needs to be on the list. What shouldn't nonetheless and will eventually carve out? A top twenty five. So we have actually a forty eight movies on a sorry from forty-eight shows on our list, we need to cut twenty three of these. Hey, ben. How was she read the first ten here share? All right. We're starting.

"Little disappointed while at first I was like, oh, this is kind of cool is you know, d'appel gang eras trying to invade their home. And it was like what this doesn't really say. Like, at least on first appearance. The seems like more of a straight up horror movie in it doesn't really at least from what we can tell from the trailer, you know, trying to be very clear it doesn't seem to have any like something deeper in. Maybe you know, maybe they're hiding that. I know appeal has said that this movie is not about race in any way, which I'll link in the show notes. So I'm I guess I'm a little disappointed that it wasn't something that has it doesn't seem to be something that has a greater depth in. It's just the horror movie. I I you go ahead. Chris I was gonna say in that same interview where he says it's not about rates. You also says the movie's really about people realizing like they're their own worst enemy. So I feel like there's a deeper. So maybe they're just. Here. Yeah. Maybe just but judging from the trailer like you do see how I got that. Right. Like, this feel like more of a straight horror film. I mean, it's not about race per se. But I think that there are deeper meaning to it just from seeing this trailer because I see something similar in how zombie movies, for example, approach a seeing our worst enemies in ourselves. But these are like the uncanny lumbering versions of humanity that are empty shells, for example, and in here, we see that they are reflective of some form of or some aspect of these characters. We're not sure what it is. Yet is not completely clear. But I think is saying something I mean, I don't I don't need every movie every horror movie to say something I'd do enjoy when there are deeply layers to a horror film. That's what I get. I think from Jordan Peele. Yeah. I guess again. I think we'll I'll be totally surprised. I think you're right. I think there's good when we see this movie it there's going to be more to it. I think we're only seeing the outer layers of the onion. But that was just my my gut reaction from seeing this was that's kind of a cool concept. But I wish there was more to this. And there probably is more to this. But you know, I will see anything Jordan Peele. Does I I've been a big fan of him for so long? So yeah, you could check out the chiller for us on Sasha onto com. Any last thoughts on us? I wish you were opening sooner. We're going to wait till March wish we're coming out next month. That's what I think it is crazy that we're getting the first teaser trailer for this just like, you know. A dozen. You know, just like a couple months before hits theaters. It almost seems like they waited you. I'm wondering if that if that works to their favor till like holding out the trailer for like this movie until kind of I guess, it's not the last minute. But it's still like, you know, handful weeks before the foam, what's the anyways, we're running short. So let's get to life advice corner with Chris Evangelista..

"One in Chris Evangelista Hulo the week is almost over Christmas is almost here before we unpacked the president's. Let's get to the latest news. Let's start first with how many movies net flicks plans to release next year actually before we talked about that Chris do we know how many movies Netflix has released this year? It's about between like seventy or eighty. So how is that many original movies? That's what they were aiming for. I don't have the civic number. I'd have to look into that. Wow. So how many are they going to release next year? They're aiming for ninety movies in two thousand nineteen and to give some perspective on that most movie studios like Universal Studios who put out a lot of movies only do about thirty movies a year. So ninety is a very big. Increase from that and keep my this jazz movies. It's not factoring in all the other original stuff. Netflix does like TV shows and specials like this is just movies only. So the total number of original Netflix stuff, total is going to be even higher. So this is this is just the future net. Netflix is going all out on this. And you know, they can do what movie is can't do because they they approach things very differently for one thing. They don't spend nearly as much money marketing their things as movie studios, dealing movie studios, have a huge marketing budget, and Netflix doesn't really do that. And I guess that's as them enough money that they can do this. And of course, they also like to forego releasing in theaters, which also saves money. So I mean, this really is just the future. Whether anyone likes it or not that flexes is slowly taking over. This is crazy because you know. Oh, I think it varies Spokane I've seen sixty movies this year. That means that Netflix says our has released more movies than I've seen this year that that's insane fair..

"And there is a way that you can look at your watch list and organized by like, which of these movies are on Netflix now, which of these movies are on Hulu, which of these movies are an Amazon I wish you could do multiple services at once you can only do one of the time. But that allows you to figure out, you know, where something's available for free, or, you know, in a service that you pay for awesome. Yeah. And that's what I usually do and usually arranged by the highest. Rated by users. So I think I'm going. I'm not wasting my time most times, but yeah, that's also how I watched minding the gap. So each day. Do you take any offense from Sean saying that like most deals he still lives at home? I don't because as I lived at home for a good three years after I graduated. So I don't take offense to that and living at home can be great. But sometimes you do have to watch movies are shows that their parents, and they don't exactly share the same taste with you. So I have a few strategies for having a happy inbetween, actually because I think that this is the biggest problem that Sean is having with Shawn's mom is that China find something that they both will enjoy and not to spend hours trying to look for that. So I would try to take into account your mom's tastes, Sean. And maybe like you have to prepare for this, essentially, you have to prepare movies that you that are out right now that aren't streaming that you think that they will like and kind of suggest those up front or think about like what John Rao or something or kind of movie that you you are in the mood for that night. So that you can just narrow down easier instead of just sky. Rolling through and be like that looks interesting that doesn't look interesting. So just gotta come prepared. Sean have a list, maybe a list of a great movie streaming right now that you find on slash dot com. Maybe your own list that you that you make on letterbox. So it's basically you're saying you had to come in with a pitch. You could be like mom, I heard about this movie, you're gonna love it's called suspicious in the while you're gonna love it. It's about dancing. Kind of. Okay. So I think we've gone through the the whole gambit here. Give it a here. Chris any final thoughts. <music>? No, I think we covered it honestly, go to slash dot com. Streaming columns we all work, very hard. I I spend hours putting putting together every two weeks. So if you're not reading it what the hell doing this for other than the money. So please. It's the same thing that FOX doing dead pool. What's cool for we're we're one in the same. That's made me incredibly that. Okay. That exist today slash on daily. "Hey, what's going on in writers? Why TRAN Bui everyone in Chris Evangelista low? Okay. So over the last few hours there has been some big breaking news in the breaking bad universe. There was word yesterday that a breaking bad movie might be in the works. And we actually broke the exclusive today on what it involves Belinda. Let's rewind a little bit Chris. No, you wrote the story yesterday when we found out what was the initial rumblings. All right. So the Albuquerque journal I believe it's called reported that a production was gearing up to start in New Mexico under the worker. Title greenbrier. But they said despite that title, this was actually a breaking bad movie, and that Vince Gilligan who created breaking bad was involved to right, and possibly direct this film. So at first that was just a rumor it started his rumor and then by late night the trades variety and teach our deadline. They all confirmed. It actually is happening up breaking bad movie is happening and. Then today, we broke the word that we confirmed what the film is. So last night, the story was the film was involving a kidnapped man trying to escape and that immediately got everyone thinking the movie was going to be about Jesse pink men because in the last season of breaking bed. He gets kidnapped by Nazi as for it at a second. Should we give spoiler warnings here? No, this should've has been off the her like ten years now, I think ended in like twenty thirteen or twenty four teen or something. So yeah, it's been a while. Okay. Well spoilers from now for the next like probably five to ten minutes. If you have not watched breaking bad, you're going to get spoiled. Okay on. Yes. So in the last season of breaking bed Jesse pink been played Aaron Paul gets kidnapped by not to use force him to cook. Math and eventually he escapes because Walter white Bryan Cranston shows up and. Kills all the Nazis with a robot machine gun that popped out of his car..

"All right for our feature present. Station. We are bringing on Chris Evangelista from Toronto to talk to us about what he's been seeing at the Toronto international film festival, Chris, what's going on. I everyone not much I've been running around this is my technically might last day I'm leaving tomorrow. So it's been a busy huff p five days here and you're joining us from a hotel lobby, has that right? I'm actually, I'm, I'm in a hotel suite is the Netflix sweet as I'm waiting for my next screening, which is a Netflix spill, and it's a very fancy hotel because they put stars in here. Because right now there's, there's like a press conference going on and lady Gaga is in there. So she's like a few feet away from me. So it's a little surreal, especially because I'm staying at like a a low rent Airbnb. So I come from there to here. This is very glittery hotel. Awesome. So Jacob, you've been doing a lot of the editing and things like that of Chris's coverage. So I feel like you have a better sense of the scope of this festival. Do you have any specific questions for Chris other than just like, how is the festival going so far? Yeah, all going to start is a star is born is good at everybody says it is. It's it's very, I don't think it's as I. I've seen some reviews that kind of hail it as like the second coming of Jesus. And I don't know if I go that far, but it's good. It's a very well made well acted film lady Gaga. It used to be really, really good. I'm not a huge fan of her music or anything, but she's a nurse, I whispered. I was afraid she would hear him. But she's phenomenal in the filmmaker singing in the film is incredible. I always forget that she's such a amazing singer, but she, she's got them pipes as they said, probably Cooper's direction..

"And senior writer ben pearson hey what's going on writer chris evangelista hello okay guys we have a lot of late breaking news and some very interesting stuff to talk about so let's just dive into it minutes before going on the air news broke that the future of a star wars story spin off films has been put on hold by lucas filming disney ben would we know yes a collider has a report that says in the wake of the disappointing box office performance of solo star wars story lucasfilm has decided to put all of its planned star wars spin off movies on pause or at least the ones that had the star wars story designate so just to be clear ryan johnson's planned trilogy is still in the works and the developed the series that is in the series of films that are in development from the game of thrones creators david benny off db weiss are also still in the worst so right now it looks like the ob one can obese standalone movie and the planned boba fett film are the two biggest recipients of this this decision so the report says that's basically everyone who was working on the ob one movie is no longer involved and they also said that even though james mangold the director of logan was in early talks to write and direct a boba fett film apparently those talks were taking place before the extent of solos box office disappointment were apparent to disney so that deal may or may not happen now we know that the hours director stephen daldry was at one point top in in talks to direct the obi wan sandler movie but since that was never officially confirmed we didn't really know about the extent of his involvement at this point so yeah that's the basic gist is that all of those movies including maybe like a iota standalone movie which had been rumored as well and like a solo sequel and alanna cow risky and spin off film all of those projects are currently on hold from lucasfilm right now now i think this is you know not so surprising considering solos box office in the end even the critical reception of that film do we think that this is the the best course of action like i is this the smartest thing that disney could do is decide to not do these standalone films i mean i feel like they need to maybe take a step back and figure out what the best approach is obviously they've had some problems behind the scenes and initially what they have tried to do hasn't been planned perhaps meticulously and carefully as it could have been so maybe taking a breath and reform late in their strategy and figuring out what stories they really want to tell which ones fans really want to hear is probably a good idea but as far as stopping them completely i don't necessarily think that's the right course of action but there i was needs to be some reworking as to what those movies are going to do and how they're going to function moving forward i think they need to reevaluate what a star wars standalone movie should be because it's weird when kathleen kennedy was talking to me about this around the release of force awakens choosing that these were going to be films that wouldn't have sequels solo star wars story obviously builds to point that you know teases sequels that will probably never get i don't think anybody i know i'm a huge star wars fan is excited for these prequel films that concentrate and you know beloved characters we know and care about it you know most of the star wars fans i know want to explore different parts of this world get introduced two new characters and i think that's the peel of star wars for yeah i totally agree with that and i think you know i in the article that i wrote up at slash i included a quote from catherine kennedy from last year when she was talking about how they were narrative looking at what they're gonna do with next ten years of star wars stories and how they were theoretically maybe going to make more movies with ray po and finn in those characters but she also said that they're looking at people who are interested in coming into the star wars world and taking us places we haven't been yet and i think that last part about places we haven't been yet is is one of those things that they're probably looking at a lot more seriously in.
