"Folks. welcome back. Sinophile continues to file endures the resilience of setup file. And of course. Thanks to all of you for your support along the way. My name is odd. Name for a hundred and seventy-five episodes we've knocked out seventy eight at espn. Thanks to genesee. Dance danjaq rick passmore claire atkins all those who are responsible for this passion project and then of course to canes thirteen and two chris corcoran joseph engelbrecht and shaun cherry the entire crew. Thanks for letting me do that. And now the thank yous to john skipper and dan laboratory for saying what we want to be. A part of metal. And i said dan i don't know like you're doing a bunch of other stuff. I'm under contract and he. We're getting it done. When laboratory believes in you when le batard says it get it done and him and skipper together. Things get done so i'm thrilled to be here. I'm throwing we continue here. Incentive file this entire crew knows what a fan i am of the lebatardshow and their universe there so funny irreverent and different quirky and so when they sit in terms of producing. I said as long as it's a member of that crew will be thrilled and so when they didn't give me my first choice ability they gave me. Chris cody and i was thrilled to get my second kidding. No i said. I don't care one of them and they said cody's your guy said great. I'm just excited to see how many episodes we're going to do before you're tired of me for my lack of movie knowledge because all no way the the amount of movies that i haven't seen will impress you. We don't have to get to a now. We have a lot of time. I'm just saying it's it's an impressive list. This an important point because people would often ask me. that's okay. How'd you get cody of while i love the show and cody's funny and he's great and i don't care movie knowledge like anybody who thinks there's some sort of process i'm like all right. Chris can you please name for me. Al pacino's i seven films go. I don't think i can do that. I mean let's find cody. your job. here is to have fun crack jokes. You're the every man that don't feel any pressure. I've never seen raging bull count the number times. Chris will offend me with things that he what. How does that happen. How are you with me. Let's dive in though. So listen for unaware because i listened christner Universally part of this experience. So this is what sinophile is i review movies. And then we have guests and we do fund silence. We talk entertainment news. And that's really what this is and you say what about tv shows. Well it's not called mr. tv show. It is symbolic lover of film which is the translation. But hey today we're doing. Hbo limited series mayor of east town. Because i was watching that. My wife and kate winslet movie star. So yeah we talk movies. We talk to. We'll talk everything in terms of where we are available. You can always tweet me adnan virk. There's also sinophile pod. And i believe cody is gonna use the social media largess of lebatardshow. I dunno cody. If we're going to have a sinophile on instagram. But i'll put that out there if you want to do that. But go ahead subscribe to this. Podcast help us out. We are trying to climb rankings. We are trying to take out all the other l. a. f. properties. I see you mystery create. I see you stupidity. Hey brock meyer. You've gotta go podcast. And then and then the now. Please help us out. Subscribe unsubscribe resubscribe we are trying to climb the rankings. That is always the key when people say. What is the secret amac listen. I don't know chris. And billy and mike ryan and roy have all figured this out. But i think it's that i think it. Subscribe unsubscribe resubscribe. Tell your friends bribe gamble but whenever you need to just course and get it done. I wanted to do some quick thoughts on the oscars is with the time. This worked was the be perfectly transparent laboratory call. Because we need you over here. And i said okay. Let's do this and then like just it happened. Maybe a lot quicker than we realized and then all of a sudden in fairness canes thirteen. It's like okay if you wanna balance it. That's that's fine but we're we're not gonna imagine you're leaving one girl for another kid who just got a few more dates and i'm going to go. We're done now. Totally cool all good and to be clear. I'm still working for cadence. Thirteen i have an nfl. Podcast called gm shuffle. Me and michael lombardi you could also subscribe. Resubscribe unsubscribe review. So i'm working for canes we haven't nfl. Pot percentage file thing over laboratory all good but now we're done so the many people were like wait. You stopped literally the week before the oscars did your oscars recap so. This feels a little dated. But we'll do a very quick recap. Because i just imagined that you talk about the oscars every day. It doesn't matter whether it's like a couple of months ago whether this is the first podcast we've done it a while a you. Just talk about the oscars. It's a great point. Cody like when. I see people at work. I'm seeing a lot. that's their. I hate anthony hopkins. I'm like this was like five weeks ago. But i've seen since i'm like okay. Fine i'll give you my opinions of it. So i'm thrilled. They happen just to have the oscars again. It's one of my favorite days of the year normal. Exactly i loved the music from quest love. I love that. I tracking shot regina king. I love regina king soderbergh trying to give it a little bit goodson glamour. But obviously we all know what the downsides were. it looked like a luncheon. it didn't have the usual glitz and glamour that they needed a lot more clips to the movies. That's my biggest cody. When you watch the oscars people have seen two movies three moves. Whatever they're not like me they haven't seen everything so when they see it clip of sentimental they got looks pretty good now. I always thought was very handsome. Fellow pakistani that. He is in the crowd sitting there. You're when you were watching these movies. Anthony hopkins. I'm telling right now. The father for those who have not seen it. The last scene of the movie is his oscar clips. And if you just watch that scene and you go oh my god that guy winning an oscar and he did so. I missed the clips of the actual movies. I get the producers wanting to tighten the show up. But i do agree with you especially for the big awards. You gotta showed the clips sound effects. Editing fine clips. But for best actor. Acting cars reminds me of way but he still wants to put time in terms of baseball. Which is one of other passions he said. You know this whole place stuff. Let's built the game all right. So games are three hours and seven minutes. Jaguars if it was two hours thirty with like half america. We're gonna baseball now. It's a lot faster now. Like either you love the game or you don't appreciate the leaves pace you. Could we speed up a little bit..

"Nineteen it is in terms of therapy in therapeutics and the symptoms of don't last this long with this so yeah that's that's going to be a big one and now Twitter is broken CBS news Jim Acosta Kaitlan Collins of CNN all running with the hydroxy chloroquine story they're all bringing on doctors that say it's bad or it's not a good thing for you to do but let's be honest no matter where you get your news at you're gonna hear different stories he if you watch fox if you watch CNN I mean we just Neil Cavuto up there are just going on a rant against hydroxy court when but as you said a democratic congresswoman from Michigan said it really helped around so it might not be for everybody but the fact that the president looks like he's pretty healthy by his standards you know he's up there doing press meetings and answering questions so he's been taking it for a week and a half it's it's it's like you can find your own if you're looking for a reason to be scared it's out there man if you're looking for positive news on covert nineteen in the economy it's it's out there too the stock market's up a thousand points today we saw sports come back this weekend you know we've got the deaths in terms of deaths there are two month lows in America so states are opening up left and right I mean I mean it's ice I swear I see the positive now that that was kind of standing in the kitchen the Donald Trump is just taking Hydroxycut Laura Quinn I don't think is doctors there and into the best in the world of there at the White House I don't think he's just taking it on a whim right he's bossing his doctor around Hey doc give me that Chris Corcoran Dr maybe his doctor maybe trump is doctor shopping I went down to the CVS clinic around the corner from the White House so get ready for wall to wall coverage of hydroxy Cork when coming tonight on your favorite cable news network over the weekend president trump was critical of former president Obama no bomber spoke to a graduating class and was taking some shots at the president and then the trump campaign fired back at president Obama fired back at him fired back and by then fired back it's a media members will Jake tapper of CNN boy he got his undies in a wad take a listen here as Jake tapper tees off on the trump campaign and their smear attacks the criticism from Obama comes at a time when president trump and his team are launching an unprecedented smear campaign against any rival leveling wild and false allegations against critics in the media and political rivals that range from bizarre false conspiracy theories to spreading false allegations of pedophile ya even suggesting one TV anchor committed murder so Jake tapper who struggled psycho Joe over there CNN is saying that these conspiracy theories have to end C. N. N. now I want to remind you that CNN had to settle a lawsuit against a high school student Nicholas Sandman for slandering him on the air it was CNN that brought us Michael Avenatti every single night for about two months bring out different witnesses saying judge capital was doing you know trains in gang bangs that's the same CNN who's now saying we have to stop with the smear campaign this is the same CNN the perpetuated the Russia collusion hoax right three years of shutdown of roads to long dot and classified that really classified documents came to show that even the witnesses that came on T. V. clapper Brennan all these people the game on TV and said yeah we have evidence shift shift yeah we we've got evidence of Russian collusion under oath the their statements told a completely different story they are lawyers Nicholas Sandman might be the highest paid CNN product right now because CNN had to settle with him remember he was the term student that had the guy playing the drum in front of them she had the mag had on and just stared at him and see and then just took this kid to task so mad that they had to settle a lawsuit to pay him but now all of a sudden they're giving lectures on what's right and what's wrong and what the smear campaign and what isn't okay now CNN's reporter Kaitlan Collins she covers these White House press briefings a lot she was busted on camera removing her mask or face mask after a White House press briefing Sanders video of it I think Eric trump was the one the Senate out there so there's these reporters all other room social distancing going on they've all got the face mask on as soon as it was over and Kaylee McEntee walks off the stage and everybody else walks off the stage even with the other reporters in the room boy Caitlyn was quick to rip that thing off and walk out so Donald Trump sent the video out on Twitter and called her a C. N. N. faker because she just wanted to be seen with a face mask on but man the sooner that press conference was over they thought but the cameras had stopped rolling she ripped that thing off like the hall used to rip off his shirt to W. W. F. well she put this tweet out in response quote nearly ninety thousand Americans have been killed by corona virus and the president is tweeting about me pulling my mask down for six seconds on a Friday okay that's one way to look at it or the other way to look at it is your you got busted and you're a hypocrite that's it so much stuff going on you never know what you're going to get with the president some days he's fighting with the press other days he casually drops and I've been taking hydroxy core Quinn bomb on here for a week and a.

"Have Jordan rules and Stephen as one of them and Scott. Van Pelt Stephen Threatened Kevin Durant on the air and then they didn't blink and then you know a guy like David if a guy like David Lloyd parks wrong parking space. You probably get suspended for three weeks so you know I mean there. There are different actually even John. I Johny Avenue I know you. Want Burke Magnusson Jimmy Petar on Connor Shell to call you. But even you will concede correct that there are anytime the crystal because of the world say the rules are the same for everybody. They're not the same for everybody. You agree that it's just not that's just not true. Here's how I will agree with that. The rules at the athletic or not the same for everybody. The rules the F. B. J. or not the same for everybody everybody's different. Listen talent. Ken Rosen and Ken. Rosenthal can do a lot more stuff than I can agree with you on that hundred percent. The Richard deitz rules. That would say that. It's sports business daily though who has more juice than you Austin Carp. Hey I'm I'm in. DC me me. The ad like we're we're starting a sports media empire hear me. It's got Intel Kornheiser Wilbon on occasion. Yeah I would I would think actually it's business daily. You're sort of the van pelt there. You're basically been able to do what you want. You got more Juiston Ben Fisher right Prince Bell they have plenty of Jews. NFL reporter the MLB reporter. Come on I don't know I wanna see I wanNA see One of those guys walking apes office and say I want to move to Sacramento California. Shut up shop here can can I. Can I do it then Fisher. Did that. Picture went out to To to to the Silicon Valley for a year. Nice good job. You got good management This weekend some of the best sports TV I ever saw and you wrote about it was was when they announced the hall of fame came to Bilk our and Jimmy Johnson respectively on on. CBS and Fox. And I just thought looking at the emotions of of the I I I just thought that was more compelling than any of the football I saw on TV. Just I especially like on the Fox one where they showed showed Troy Aikman and I guess there's like a crying crying aikman mean going around but it's I just thought that was that was really cool and I I. I haven't clicked on your story yet. I saw the headline I but I I'm looking forward to reading it. Yeah I talked to the producer of the NFL today and ensure got the background on. How all that came together and You know in short the hall of fame suggested it and then. CBS went into very much sort of a stealth mode to not let anybody outside of a very few handful of people know that it was coming and they totally surprised cower on Air Coward did not know I'm sure Johnson I actually see if Johnson new or not I can tell you bill. Coward did not know when the exact same reactor on its fate. Yeah Yeah my guess is yeah. I mean the thing about that John is that and I'm with you These the NFL studio shows are. Are you know sort of so formulaic formulaic at times in the scripted is maybe just a little too strong but you kind of know what you're getting at the same laughing at every single jokes. It's you you're only gonNA go so far in terms of criticizing the NFL so when you get like some kind of genuine moment like that even if it was a stage stage Gen genuine moment it was nice. It was nice to see and Aikman and Jimmy Johnson's reactions were very honest. And obviously bill cower and and the rest of that group were You No. I think we're totally touched by cower and it's very clear that the staff of both places really really liked cower and really like Johnson a lot like you can't fake that stuff and so you're right there's really two really good moments and But but it's also more like like you said like in terms of being scripted. Like like the thing that struck me about the Johnson one was a straight astray hand like like a like an and And like you know boomer in a couple of guys on on on on CBS. There seems to be and maybe they are good actors but I suppose I suspect they're not as there seemed to be genuine joy that this was happening and I just thought I just thought it was really I I felt privileged to watch it. I I love when when they show People hearing that getting into the hall of fame and the emotions and just seeing it live on air like that. I just thought that was really really cool. Yeah CBS told me that. BOOMER ESIASON and Nate Burleson did not know so that was genuine surprise Phil Simms and James Brown. We're told about fifteen twenty minutes before they went on the air because they were going to be sort of insuring and being part of the segment when David Baker walked on. So that's why they gave them the heads up but they didn't give them adds up until still centrally right before the show. Sort of keep secrecy so pretty amazing job by CBS to To pull that off very quickly before I let you go disown releasing releasing streaming numbers cortisone their numbers were They doubled their streams and twenty nineteen. Obviously that's good news for them So much seems to be very dependent on events though John like you know you get a You GotTa fight that people are interested in people. jump to that service. I think the the rubber meets the road in terms of how many people watched his own away from these. Like sort of mega fight stuff. Yeah the The problem with those numbers are they come from his own so they're not verified by by Nielsen There are no specific numbers for specific events. And the numbers are also global so you so Y- The It's more than just just the US market. But I I want with the story because I just thought it was interesting You know that you know they. They gave a total number of streams. That I don't have it in front of me but it's it's I forget what it was but it's a really high number extremes and you know I would have thought that You know boxing would have ruled the day and I guess it it. It cleaned the top spot but champions league soccer like you know Football was really. I think it took maybe six or seven of of the top. Ten shows What was was Oscar? And that's surprise me as well. I just thought it was a nice snapshot in terms of what's working for for Joan and to me it suggests where they're going to sort of place their bets as all these rights star coming up going forward are and then finally John on you know. I started that sports illustrated podcast like many many years ago. I don't remember what it was. I think two thousand fifteen or something like that you one of my first guests so I probably one of the first people go to bring you on a podcast and then all these years later the loyalty that is not shown by you by by jumping on trainers podcast clearly competitor in the in the big burgeoning sports media. So would you say that his actions outside of the ring would? I dunno respectable. Do you respect him his act? I would say that his actions outside the ring still make him a fighter. "For just over eight years now, I don't move too fast anymore because my knees are shot and my back hurts all the time or malefic arm, scar beyond recognition at this point. It's something that I wouldn't trade him for the world because it's a lot of what makes me take. And it's a lot like what makes me happy with life. It's just become this incredible thing, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. He knows how I met my fiance right now was through wrestling and tell him out a lot of friends who two of which will be in my wedding wrestlers just as much a part of who I am as the crappy day job sitting in an office type in the numbers. I don't care about for people. I don't care about you know, making money for somebody else. So for me, it's kind of like, I guess it selfish. But in a way, it's not because. You gotta find what makes you happy. And you have to kind of stick to what it is that kind of keeps you going and for me, it's always been wrestling. We are we pretend to be. So we can't for what you pretend to be. If we spend too much time pretending to be normal giving into the sometimes depressing. Details of life that are outside of our control. Don't we risk losing the parts of us that are most vibrant, most bold and unique mine, I think they have their own expectation of what they want our life to be and where you get your enjoyment of filming and some people can reach a professional level of doing that and others just can't. But it doesn't mean people should stop short of what their goals are their dreams. Are so dream is to, you know, be wrestler. Can't you just be wrestler? When I hear about somebody who's making five hundred bucks wrestling, putting the cheese grater on the head that thing, I think is you crazy. But then Secondly, the former athlete I understand because that's what makes you happy. Like, it's something in you that people will never understand what does the future hold for Jeff. We continue to find happiness and contentment. Even when his wrestling days are over who knows? But he'll probably be fighting the Saturday night barbed wire nails protruding from his head and loving every minute of it. The pros outweigh the cons. And I wouldn't trade in all the good things. I get out of wrestling all the positive life experiences. All the weird life experiences that nobody nobody else. I know kind of has the same ones as me, I wouldn't trade those in because I really liked the positive side of wrestling. I really like the positive side of my life. And for me it's worth every little scar. I have. Why sports matter is a religion of sports and cadence thirteen production? Adam schloffmans is our producer in whole jus-. "Oh, Chris Corcoran and the entire Kate. Well, congratulations on your transition from SA athletic, my transition from mediocre to above average. All right. Jim Miller is a bestselling author as you know, Google Books. He's on Amazon, he's all over the place. He's the host of the Arjun podcast last big on with sex and the city, which I'm not a big sex in the city fan. But the people who listened to that told me, it was pretty awesome and super honesty from Sarah, Jessica, Parker and others. So if you're sex the fan check that out and also obviously the yard and stuff. Nick Sabin and and everything else on there. He's just good apple podcasts or Stitcher type Arjun with Jen. I don't mean to do a blatant plug. But I did do I did do a podcast on ESPN social media, and they wound up being I'm glad that it's a lot of tension because every everybody who cooperated from ESPN. It's probably I don't know probably fifteen people interviewed including skipper Djamil sage other get along. You got a lot of the players on that. It was if anybody's interested in how social media kind of evolved in devolved at ESPN, please listen, and let me know what you think. Check that out. And let's Jim Miller gets invited to the biggest podcasts in the game. The Bill Simmons's, and you know, the the people that level so for him for him to slum on this small. His fantastic. And we appreciate it. James, Andrew millage Miller. Thank you as always for your time. Thanks for having me. All right back in the studio. My thanks to James, Andrew Miller. Jamila for coming on the podcast. He's been on pretty much about as much as anybody except for John O ran, and it's always interesting discussion with him about ESPN. I appreciate his time. And he's got a a mega popular podcast origins. So make sure you check that out. The the producers at cadence thirteen doing amazing job with that podcast. That is really really labor intensive obviously Jim does great job of narrating it and putting it together and the booking, but that is that is really impressive production, quite frankly Macharia than this one. No fence to my buddy, loophole green. Oh, but that is some hard work that those guys do for Arjun the previous podcasts. If you wanna check them out, the one before this one was Chelsea genes of the Washington Post in Bruce Feldman, Chelsea as an interesting story in that. She is she's leaving the Washington nationals beat which has been on for a number of years to cover politics. She's gonna cover the twenty twenty election. One of the candidates that was. As really interesting just how that works the Washington Post in that's really cool before that a MBA roundtable with Howard Beck. Candice Buckner and shirt show. He three very prominent via writers that was a lot of fun. If you're interested in sort of in how the NBA's covered, and what happens there check that out Tom Vertucci before that Rebecca Lobo in China Robinson on women's best coverage in the states, and then Troy Aikman Kate Abdo. Rachel Nichols, Candace park Mill Hill, Renee young and many others just head to the sports media with Richard I page, please leave us a review that really really helps keep this podcast around. And obviously subscribing is is the reason it exists. One quick note before we go, and I I wanna wish everybody I will happy new year. And the best to you for twenty nineteen my family moved from New York Toronto in twenty eight team. So it was a really major year for us. But a Toronto's been incredibly welcoming candidates just an amazing nation, and so the shadow to everybody who's been so great to us where we've made this this pretty mega move in our lives. So one last note here that I just want to make note of couple of weeks ago. I sent out a tweet not not over my feed. But I responded to a couple of former colleagues of mine it's Portugal straighted, where I said to them that while I know it's not everybody's style. I was hoping I saw more people from Sports Illustrated support our old can't our old colleague Maggie gray who Maggie Griffey. Those of you know, as a WFAN sports talk host in New York City. She's on the show right before the Mike francesa show. One of the great colleagues. I've had during my career just an incredible professional so super talented..
