"Heel fans. Welcome back to the second. Let's ride. We know what it is on monday or the day after the game when we talk about winners and losers and this week i had five winners and losers. Now let's be clear you're probably wondering you're probably asking yourself at this time. How in the world could you have five winners. I felt that there were players still played well enough to earn in deserve some credit and you might also be thinking eight losers i could have twenty two losers eleven on both sides of the football. I can't. I'm not doing that number one. I can't do that number two. I mean that would be a disa- longest article ever but also it would become monotonous. There were some players that could bounce either way like ben rothlisberger for the second straight week. I don't have money either list. It's a situation where i thought ben didn't play great. The interception was awful. I think we'll all admit that he'd admit that he did admit that after the game. But i also think about. He didn't play poor enough that i would put them on the loser list. So let's go through this. We'll we'll hammer these out. Five winners eight losers. Let's get started with winners top winter. I should have had this individual in the winters column last week after the win buffalo. But i didn't do it. I overlooked and i apologize. Not overlooking this though. Chris boswell deserves to be on the winners list. He was money from fifty six yards out the longest field goal in heinz field history. That's impressive. he's been money in the bank. Ever since two thousand eighteen it was just a debacle of the season. I said this on the post game show. I'll say it here as well. The steelers could have easily easily. Just said you know what in two thousand eighteen he was. That bad boswell. Was that bad that they said we're done with them. Just we'll get rid of in the nfl trees kickers like a dime a dozen anyways. But they stuck with them. Maybe it was for contractual reasons. Maybe it wasn't for whatever reason. Chris boswell has made the steelers say boy are. We glad we kept that guy. Around another solid outing by chris boswell. He deserves to be on the winners list. Next nashi harris stat line ten rushes thirty eight yards but he adds five forty three yards. Receiving any did have his first touchdown receiving touchdown. I've believe those about twenty three yards. So g harris najji harris again the stats don't really bear out that he should be on the winners list. But again this thirty eight yards boy. Did he have to earn him. He had to earn every single one of those thirty eight yards. And i love seeing the five receptions for forty three. The steelers should use more in the passing game. Everyone talked about his dual threat ability and things of that nature. The one thing though if you think back to everyone wants to compare them lady on bell and rightfully so i get very similar in stature style stuff like that but the steelers used more in passing. They actually trusted him to run routes to catch the football. I don't think najji is there from route running standpoint but he certainly capable if they can get him the bond space that's when he does his damage if that's passing soviet najji harris's a winner in this game next winter be wide. Receiver deontay johnson. Here is his stat line. He had nine catches on twelve targets for one hundred and five yards a forty one yard long. You know. I didn't mention this earlier in the first segment but when we talked about injuries deontay johnson should have been brought up in a on a meaningless play. I'm totally meaningless. The steelers are down by two scores. Twenty seconds left deonte johnson catches a pass injured his knee. No one knows the severity of that injury yet. But it's still an issue. He goes over one hundred yards of that catch but boy. Is that a costly injury. If he has to miss any time but deonte johnson played well the miscommunication with ben roethlisberger is still a question but in terms of production he produced deonte. Johnson deserves to be on the winners list. Next winter in. This is a guy that was on my losers listen. The preseason did not play in week one but played in a big way in week. Two robert spelane cymbeline last week. The shin injury leading up to the game and play this week with devon bush out spelane played a lot and he really looked like he was comfortable again. The reason why he looked comfortable is he didn't have to cover. Everyone says well. Roberts spelane can't cover. We know this anyone who watches football watches. The steelers is he's not his forte. his forte is running downhill tackling. That's what he does the best. And even though spelane. I thought got screwed on that roughing the passer call or unsportsmanlike con. Whatever they called it. When derek carr is scrambling and he doesn't slide spelane hits him in the shoulder with his shoulder. It looked it looked worse than it was. But my goodness they they flagged him for a bad foul stat. Line explained twelve tackles. Eight solo tackles and one tackle for loss. Either robert splaine did a good job. He deserves to be on the winners list for this game. Especially when probably up until friday. He thought he was just going to be a reserve player. He gets thrust into a bigger role and he plays well the last winter before we go over to the losers columnist melvin. Ingram his stat line. He had four tackles one solo. Tackle one sack in one. Tackle for loss nova ingram was called just like alex. Highsmith was he was called on moore. Duty based on tj wads injury and. You could definitely see the both of those players kind of kind of winded at times. They weren't used to it with tj water in there. They have a three-person rotation they are fresh they're all able to rotate around without t. J. watt melvin ingram. Now highsmith and jamir jones were called on to doing more and more in that became. They became an issue but nonetheless. Melvin ingram gives his first sack. As a member of the steelers i thought he was disruptive At the same time. I think we were all hoping a little bit more production from both ingram and highsmith art. Let's go to the losers list. This is a long one. I'm going to start off with trae. Turner now we've learned a lot. Since the end of the game about the situation that happened. After the steelers scored harris had his first touchdown receiving touchdown trey turner was objected in. This was for what he spit on an opponent. Mike tomlin was absolutely irate. After this and i didn't understand at the time. And i want to apologize. I'm what am i apologizing for. I don't really want to apologize. I wanna make sure everyone understands. It's people that follow me on twitter. they were kind of giving me a hard time. When i had not seen the video of trae turner spitting. I had not seen the reports. Either and i tweeted mike. Tomlin has every right to be mad because they were two penalties at the same time offsetting penalties. One player gets dejected. And the other doesn't i didn't know the trade turn spit on someone come to find out. At least. According to the steelers that trade term was he is spit on first and then he retaliated. Well you know what. I'm a father. I'm also a schoolteacher and you we always say the person that retaliates is the one that always gets caught. That doesn't make what they did right. That's just the way it works. A lot of times trade turner's veteran. Mike tomlin said that in his post game press conference very even keel. He's not a young guy not a hothead so when he was that irate mike tomlin knew something was up while at the same time. If you're a veteran you have to understand that even if someone spits on you and i understand that that is the lowest of the low. You can't retaliate. You can't put your team in that situation. A reminds me of the search of the time. I believe it was markey's pounds. He's rookie season to two thousand and ten and there was a play in markey's pounds. He was getting kind of getting into a scuffle. After the play and mike maitama employ them to the side. And he's yelling at him. You can't do that you can't do that..

"Davis fell ill and is taking some rest in recovery time. We're talking about players that have not been talked about a lot but yet are needing to be discussed for their pot potential impact in so dave. Why don't you give us another player in the list. We've already gone over like players like eric. iran. Chris boswell trade turner. Who's next on your list. I've got tyson osceola and that's just because of who he's been with the steelers ever since he's been with the steelers he's not been that flashy guy and he's the kind of guy that you don't you don't miss them till he's not there in the steelers almost completely mr miss year but luckily they turn that around but he'll still such a crazy but he's someone people he's not a guy that people talk about and yes he's one of the oldest guys on the team but he's still out there getting the job done and if he's still out there stuffing the middle at nose tackle and also possibly filling in some when they're in sub packages Staying on the field. With until while stefan to it's on the i r. He's going to be an important guy and and will be very much appreciated when the regular season gets here. Think about what it would look like with two ago. I are if there was no tyson a little. I would be drastically different. And yes chris way healthy. He talked about how that's such a big deal for him compared to last season but he's not the same he's just not the same tyson. Lulu is a. He's one of those old guys has all the savvy. Veteran moves knows what to do in certain situations. So i agree with you. I think that absolutely A he deserves it. He doesn't get talked about a lot unless he has like a great game. He has ranking Hit ec is being on a defense on what we're talking about it. Is you have the starting group. Who do you think they're gonna be. If you're naming all three cam hayward we've vigor lulu it knows it's going to be warmly worm leading. He's going to be the other end. Yeah that's that's who it was in the preseason when they were all there like eve against detroit It was. I mean the the depth chart went warmly. And then mondale. And i don't think monday is gonna start but he's gonna get some playing time. 'cause jeffrey benedict i keep bringing him up and he kept pointing him out. And you'll see it if you check in tomorrow. What i have the full preseason. Pf scores for the steelers defense in an article. I like i said whether you like pf escorts or not but still that mondo was. He was up there because he he had a real good preseason absolutely so a lose good for that one for sure i'm gonna go with. Derek watt for my next one. And this is. This is weird early on. Maybe even going back to manage any everyone was talking about. Derek watt. oh my gosh. They're running derrick wahdan wheel routes all my gosh derek. Watches caught a pass on the sideline. Oh gosh derek watts being used a ton and then the preseason came and derek while wasn't used hardly at all he was basically what he was last year. I still think that they have a lot of this. Fullback stuff in there up their sleeve that they're going to do this season. I think the derek what is going to be utilized more as as as a blocker but also as a receiver as an option as an athlete. I hope he is. And i hope he's exceeds based on his salary in that my goodness if you're pay a guy that much you hope you get something out of it Do you think that was all smoke and mirrors. And let's just throw something against the wall and see if it sticks with derek water early in this off season or do you think that he could actually be an impact player on the offense. I mean he played eight offensive snaps in the preseason. I mean it's crazy that all of a sudden they're going to bring him out really start utilizing them i did. I don't know what to expect with them. And i really don't i. I mean as soon as i think they're going to do one thing then they don't they don't use them all all season and then they hand the ball off to him twice in the playoffs. No i don't even. I don't need to be day. A hand off be on the field and beat be started stuff honestly. There's so much mad canada's offense that they weren't really showing in the preseason because it went to that for all we know next we're gonna come out in a lineup where it's odd words nausea harris derek. Watts eric. Hebron pat fair and chase klay pole. And and you're like oh my goodness huge lineup. And they're going to spread them five wives. You know or something like that. I'm waiting for i some something crazy like that. You know what i'm saying. But i haven't seen it so we'll see i. I really don't every time i'd say that. Oh yeah. I think they'll use what more they don't. So i'm gonna say if you're not gonna use them at all. That's what i'm going to say. And then maybe get so. I live chats tarmac in the contract. We're not talking about that. But let's go down to brian's list. He put a player on here. That i was gonna not challenge him but ask him about. This player was talked a lot about this off sales cam sudden but he had him on his list as definitely impact player. I guess my question for you. Dave is how do you see them utilizing camden this year. Do you have him at the outside and moving in you have him staying on the outside trying to fill roles on the inside with someone else. What do you think is gonna do at that. Cornerback physician oh my goodness. That's the million dollar question. Do you know. I mean they have to put something on the inside. Whatever they're whenever they were going to that is mullet gonna be health. You know they brought him back. Is he healthy enough to do it. is like we said in the first part of the show. Is you know karl..

"This guy just has the most punishable face and resume in the history so whenever he sounds like he's anti fund which is what israel is whether that's what they wanted to be or not. It is what it's being called already as it was just a poor decision by all parties. I think talk well. Yeah and you look at the. How low the self-awareness is. I mean. i don't know if he thought. I don't know what kind of reaction he assumed people were going to get but like if he did know that the onslaught that came after it was going to come. Then you've got an even bigger issue. Connor i hate. This just makes no sense. It makes no sense especially with the guy. Like hey sean. Payton was basically pay employers to murder quarterback. And here we are. Now he's saying hey pant even celebrate after you get a first down like there's gotta be some sort of okay. You can't throw the ball after a first down atagi or something but you should be able to show some emotion maybe talk a little shit and then keep it moving like it has to either be way over the top celebration and that can be a penalty but it can't be this small little shit that's like all right fifteen yards the whole plays ruin your drives ruined punt the ball basically on second down because you're screw and what if you have a raft doesn't like one of the players. You know like that happens. That i think there's what didn't like me. He's like he. I think clearly i'm more. Call it all when three other restaurant was on somebody else. Now do that with this taunting thing. It's now the ref on the fields decision on whether or not it was ill. Wilder not like is that what. I don't understand i. I have no idea how this works out. Well i just don't know why it's a point of emphasis. That is the biggest thing for me as somebody who was in the league and saw the point of emphasis meetings behind the scenes and everything. They're trying to shape the future. And it's like i understand you like the way he said the talking like. Hey i hate to break it. The people like football football football is football. Football is a violent sport by the way. Football is a sport that to play. You have to have a lot of emotion you you hear those people that puke before every single game. There's people that run their heads into walls before games there's people that isolate themselves for six months because they have to get into the proper state of mind to run their face into other people to play this sport. Football is not like any other sport because nobody can create a sport that can survive this long as gladdy orrick. Gladatorial is that like gladiator liked. It's the most gladiatorial sport there is. I mean every sunday. My city is fighting. Your city are gladiators are going on the field. The fight your gladiators and we live in a society now with more information than ever on the future so the laws are changing but at the end of the day it is still played by dudes who believe it or not have to potentially be assholes to get the job done on. The field is being asked to run twenty two miles an hour. Run their face of somebody else or some others. Two people three people that are running at fifteen miles an hour. So if you don't want the potential to second afterward excitement still lost in the thing. I don't think you like the sport of football like i. Just don't think you fully. This is just like the people like the paint. A picture of what they want something to be an act as if that is how would actually is like. Hey this is not. Football is a sport of emotion. Like this is just how it is football. As a sport of opportunity. Football is a sport that should be welcoming to everybody all personalities all kinds. It is a unifier in the classical sense. That's why when politics which get involved in everything got brought in so many people got mad on both sides. i mean it was just like hey. Football is our ultimate getaway raw like you should. We should not be harnessing excitement. That's what makes our sport great. I would assume what happened. Was mara goes to his golf rounds on tuesdays after games and his four of old whites auto like when players talk after the down is over and he took it back and the competition committee. Didn't listen to anything ever says. And they just voted. Yeah go ahead good more. Do whatever you want and then this app you think just as soon as mars stock. Those things is just walk like that. I would assume so. There's no way tom what's behind this. Yeah because tomlin. I mean there's so much swag from com tomlin talk shit. So i heard a story. This alleged okay alleged. Obviously an alleged story. Chris boswell was kicking. Maybe going through a little bit of a slump and we're having a couple of and this is looking back hindsight not during his sump. It was not. He was not drinking during this stuff. I don't want to end this offseason looking back on slump you know and we just so happen to be sitting at I forget what by good bar. It's guy with todd. haley busted. His cowboy is so we're sitting at having a beer two or four. Know whatever it was and i was just chatting with him. Buzzes cool guy. I'm big fan of bosnia's human. I think he has grown and matured a lot. He hits the fuck of football. So i'm a big fan. I asked you know what happened. He goes he just didn't know how to tom..

"Looking at what. The pittsburgh steelers should use their newfound cap space for here in the twenty twenty one season. If you didn't already know the pittsburgh steelers have conferred even more money onto their books by restructuring the deal of steph onto it converting that money newest signing bonus and pushing that cap it further into the future a move that many thought would have happened way back at really at the start of free agency doesn't end up happening until here now in august. So what does that all mean for the steelers salary cap situation. Basically right now they sit at seventeen and a half million dollars cap space however. That really isn't the true number of how much money they technically have right now to. Really kinda break things down that seventeen and a half million dollars. Of course the steelers like to have some emergency spending money to go into the season. It's about five to six million dollars. Kind of goes towards that there also has to be a little bit more money it on the books from that rule of fifty one to the fifty three man roster of course adding two more contracts to that cap number on top of that really. There's a few things. The steelers need to take into consideration as well as building out their practice squad. So all of that will count to roughly around nine and a half million dollars or so so that leaves the steelers with upwards of eight nine million dollars of capable spending money again. Some of that will be kind of eaten up by tj. What extension however and. That's the first thing. I want to talk about the way the steelers new spend this money. Obviously by opening up a ton of cash a lot of people just instantly thought. Oh that's just going to end up in tj watts pocket really. That's not a hundred percent. The case tj water of course on the signing that signing air the fifth year option here in twenty twenty one so basically a new contract really isn't going to change too much of this year's capital his signing bonus could very well Depending on how much of that guaranteed money. Tj watt signs for however. It really shouldn't impact it salary-cap whatsoever really the potential. Here's for the steelers salary cap to kind of shrink but between one to five million dollars kind of depending how it all shapes up but most of the signing bonus money is really going to be stuff that hammers the salary cap in future years so while there will be some sort of impact here in two thousand twenty one especially with the size of the deal. It isn't something that we particularly have to worry about. What basically it comes down to now is the steelers will have about an extra six million dollars that they never have at this time of year and really that number could could grow even more with two pretty simple deals. First and foremost the steelers could create more seller cat by completing the final Salary restructure that they possibly could make here in twenty twenty one by restructuring. The deal of chris boswell which would open up a little more than a million bucks. Every dollar counts of course in the nfl but at this point it really wouldn't make too much more sense other than pushing more money into the future. The other thing the steelers could do and something i think is a whole lot. More likely is a joe haden contract extension and one of the reasons. Why it's more likely is because joe hayden and his agent have approached the steelers about basically putting a contract extension in place to have a deal. That joe haden can ride out the end of his career for and in doing so really. The steelers gained a ton of leverage in this situation because Joe haden saying he wants to retire steelers. The steelers aren't obligated to offer him a ton of money. Of course joe. Hayden is one of the highest paid players at his position in nfl history. So i there's also that sense prop joe hayden would be willing to take a significant pay-cut to continue his career with the block and gold and try to help win a championship for the first time in his career. So the potential is there for that and really if an extension is agreed upon and the steelers turn joins basically what's left on his contract in a signing bonus. The steelers could clear about four million dollars cap space. That hasn't been done yet. But if the steelers are really wanna be big game fishing like it. Kind of appears they are. That's a move. They could definitely consider making as of this moment. The steelers have about six million dollars in free cap space that they don't typically use at this point in the year to sign outside player or make some sort of secondary deal as in a trade. They could open up. Another million bucks by restructuring. Chris boswell and another and another up to four million dollars with joe. Haden sooners potential. The steelers could spend up to a eleven million dollars on outside players. That are not on this team at this current moment. How should the steelers spend the six million dollars or up to eleven million dollars is really. That's a big question surrounding us here. And now because really the steelers never needed to restructure that contract of steph onto to get t g what done so something is coming i. It really has to. Of course his team has been all in on the twenty twenty one season. The amount of void year deals put together Pushing a bunch of joe schubert's money. The newly acquired joe show bert into the future. Really what the steelers are doing is kind of pushing a little bit of the problem into the future but setting themselves up to be a significantly improved team and a team that will make a run at a title here in two thousand twenty one. So they're going right now. They're exhausting every option. They have the money they're going to spend it and really before. I continue on how they should spend that money. I know there's a lot of people saying. Oh maybe the steelers just wanna roll some salary cap over into twenty twenty two but hear me out on this. The steelers warmed to say money in two thousand twenty two. What's the point of restructuring steph onto to begin with by restructuring that money the steals are pushing cap it to next year. If they don't spend it then they effectively really haven't done anything at all. What was the point of all that. The point is to make the team better here in the future and the steelers have a significant amount of cap space. They do not normally have at this time of the year. So a couple moves that kind of makes sense for the pittsburgh steelers. Really you have to look up and down the roster quarterback the steelers have four guys that obviously they're very comfortable with and you're not finding anyone there. The running back room is stock to the gills. As is the receiver. Anti dan room. I thoroughly believe the steelers have trust in their guards and really there isn't any center that's is going to step in and kind of supply kinder- green is the guy especially here now at this point in the year the could be in the market for tackle and of course names will be something we check in a little bit later on the could be in on the tackle market. There are some free agents available such as a mitchell schwartz and they're potentially some guys available via trade so that is a spot to keep in mind defensively. The steelers are loaded on the defensive line. They're loaded on edge. They're loaded inside linebacker now they have one of if not the best free safety in the game and they have one elite corner in the joe haden and outside of that they've had some issues with the other cornerback spot which kind of seems like more of a competition than what we're expecting between camp sudden and james peer aside from that trail edmonds didn't get his fifth year option so potentially the steelers could be looking at to maybe adding to that safety room. Of course the depth spots that safety is not a strength of this team. Special teams wise. I would also say the steelers are quite loaded. So i i'm not. I'm not worried about them. Trying to find another kick returner gun or someone to run down the field. They have more than plenty of those types of guys so really the spots right now that you can kind of hone in on our either tackle spot but more namely left tackle corner and perhaps safety depth because the steelers right now. I think they're quite confident. And everything else they have on the roster but really once again the steelers have a ton of money that they still kind of put themselves in a situation to spend so something is surely coming down the pipeline. We will get into the names of the trade targets. They should be after in the second. Half of this podcast. But we're going to jump into a quick commercial break and we will be back in just a minute so stay tuned for the second. Half of the live mike. Thanks to t mobile for supporting this episode and for keeping baseball fans.

"The steelers special teams captain for two thousand twenty one. The question is now in the live chat. You may answer. Richest number one was there. My number one was chris boswell. So and your answer can't be nobody like you've had for number fire which i think would work so if you have your your answer andrew o. Barr says balaj. I still don't even have him on my fifty three until he shows something And really you think the steelers are going to have someone who's in their first season with pittsburgh is a captain. That's just not how to do it. Say brian brown says what she means. Derek us us pittsburgh's his mouse killebrew. I would agree with that as well. It's for what just about bellagio. That's hard for someone to make the be the team captain that first year up there Cheese ball ten says he agrees with boswell. George testing says what create assists chase. I don't see. Don't even play any specialty. Yes he actually. He played twenty seven percent of the spanish steps. Yeah he played a lotta. He played some governor. I expect though That number to go down this year not up. I do as well. That's what happens when you just like alex smith. Yes kathy. She says what. Hi cathy clarence. Washington also says what mason says balaj. Seth bow was the first one to say he's the first one. Say he says buddy johnson. Joseph pronounces buddy johnson but johnson. Honestly he might be my my bet for steelers special teams captain in two thousand nine twenty three. Yeah give him give him a couple years of the steelers. I think he's gonna play better. Tim this year but once again. I don't see the steelers having a rookie. Be a team captain. Okay richard adamson says boswell garrett slinger lynn said danny smith aka no one other words. Paul says none torna says lot of milk like. I don't even see that guy playing special teams. He just puerta. Just wanted to put that name out there. Bryan blackstock says derek. What the artist formerly known as soliver believe boy mob kennel. He says benny snell junior came. That's a good one. Okay chris pew pew. He says what he says. Happy derek will lead to happy. Tj want okay. And yeah and then some people are saying exactly what. I'm saying a rookie. Captain. these are players that i could see. Maybe down the road i i just. I don't know that this would be the rookie. Or some of those rookies. Have the opportunity to be impactful. Special teams player. But we're talking about the special teams captain going into the year. I don't see a rookie. Who to be voted on before they play a game crack. So it's not something like you have a floating captain. Were that going to go out. And they've done that in the past. The steelers did that. What was the game was was twenty. Twenty seventeen where the only had two captains yes i believe so they. They floated captains week-to-week. They didn't always announce them they had special teams captains. Just wasn't the same one. For the whole season tyler medicaid which was a special teams captain a decent number of times. I think in two thousand seventeen so but and that was only his second season. Twenty six thousand right. I think so. That's the thing that. I think they could do what you said where. It's nobody and they and they float it week to week. Okay like andrew says captain by committee. They kinda did they did. And that's not. That's uncommon that y play back in high school. We actually where we had some some like two captains every week in two captains rotated. Did that when i coached dude. When you're in high school. You wore leather helmets. I'm not at all if they were letter. How much high school. They were dinosaurs skulls. When you were nice that was we have to doubt that. Yeah so but you have could be interesting to hear what you have cows out there. He'd helped you get me good but that was pretty weak. So that's that's pretty awesome. I still say if you're if this was something you can place a wager on wwe. I'm putting my money on chris boswell. Honestly that's what he's my number one. He's been the captain before he's been with the team. I mean you realize he. He's one of the oldest players on the steelers. Yes if you're asking if you're asking me to put money on my on my ex. Steelers’ Perfect Season Comes to an End With Loss to Washington
"Or game tonight. The undefeated steelers hosting the washington. Football team ben. Roethlisberger and alex smith go and head to head. Second quarter all steelers early. James washington to catch the steelers while received some of the best in the business with run out the catch all been has to get the ball in their hands. They know exactly what to do with it. Fourteen nothing pittsburgh. Meanwhile from the comeback player of the year alex smith. That's the last thing we want to see bleeding profusely after being cleared. It's the other leg to quick nap. Critical moment final seconds of the first half of the clock. Ticking down. Alex smith getting sacked on a third-down play. No timeouts left the trying to run the field goal team out but the clock is going to be stopped by the officials and this may have been sneaky from alex smith. this sneaky. good better and move by. Alex realized that he doesn't have any time outs left and if they used the ball in play to probably not going to be able to get the feel law so retards off with the football. They got to stop the clock in the points. Before the you take a look. Ron rivera's yelling everybody's yelling but we're going to show it to you here. Watch alex smith again. Sneaky veteran move the official saying. Give me the ball. Alex smith is saying. I got other ideas. He takes that one himself. They have to look. He's laughing he knows. Exactly what is doing common knows what he's doing and in the end it results in three medical points. Dustin hopkins forty nine yards. It's up it's good. Fourteen three at the have a little momentum shift now oakland drive of the third smith. Watch cam simms. This might have been the biggest play for the washington football team in this game. And don't just take my word for mike. Tomlin talked about this after the game. Felt like he was a real turning point thirty yards on the catch and run a big first down in that would lead to this. How about logan thomas to the one converted quarterback out of college logan thomas with some great hands being able to get down to the one he's really turned into a professional title. They were punching in premier. So fourteen steelers fourth quarter at seventeen ten at smith. It's thomas wide open worldwide. That's a busted covers right there but don't fault the waas to football team alex smith to taking advantage of the miscues by the steelers. So we're all even now the steelers of a fourth and one on the twenty eighth. They're kick chris. Boswell is out the rookie. Matt right is there. And so mike tomlin elects to go for it a throw was to anthony mcfarland his miscue there and the washington football team takes over on downs and that leads to. This happened this catch. This is a big time catch right here by camps and being able to survive the ground one handed grab pressure situation. Can't do it any better than that. That's a big first down later in the drive. Dustin hopkins from forty five away at the first looks. It's going to hook but then it hangs and it's good to washington up twenty two seventeen but mike tomlin had used his timeouts. Well they will going to have plenty of time. But there's no time when this happens a no deflections your the game washington. Football team's defensive line. "All right, thank you very much. Adam Green to Bob Stevens in Dallas, where the Cowboys open the second half with a four point lead over the Roethlisberger less Steelers right now. Well, actually, walking Burger is coming back. He came out of the a lot around there after suffering that the injury and apparently he's good to go. So we will see, Of course, the Cowboys got the second half kickoff, so they've got the ball first. But Cowboys leading 13 9 and the Cowboys on the move. 49 yard line. Cowboys have built up a 13 month and lead late in the first half with a single scored nine points in the final 1 10 to cut it down to four ending that tap on a franchise record. 59 by Chris Boswell that that little girl was set up by a CTU am football. Check that Bumble Karen Gilbert, nine for 12 113 yards and a touchdown and his first career start has done very, very well. He also has a 20 yard touchdown pass Gilbert forthe quarterback in the last five games for the power born. He's also washed for 28 yards of this game. Ezekiel Elliott did start the game he had a hamstring injuries throughout the week was limited, but she has watched for 22 yards on Terry's. Then Whoppers out 14 for 19 111 yards touched out now is a 17 Washington Wait the first half and, uh The Cowboys have a couple of field goals of 38 44 legs Airline that 40 point Carter was very significant because it was torturing and the fact that the punt was Was recovered by Cedrick Wilson, then lateral gonna throwback play to us CJ Goodwin, who ran 73 yards deep into Pittsburgh territory and the Kabul and were able to get the 44 field goals. So again, the third About 12 minutes to go and 13 to 9 cow bones. All right. Thank you very much. Bob Stevens in Dallas on, you know, we we talk Jodie about you know the cowboy's going with Garrett Gilbert today in Lacey's. He's respectable here. 10 of 1421 yards and a touchdown thus far. Has not been bad and the good job that our buddy Bob Steven, just given us the feed on the end of the first half. How about the last minute and 15 seconds for Chris Boswell Steel? It's happened scored. They get a touchdown with under two minutes to go to atleast know that they're in the game at halftime, Boswell goes out. And just Yanks. The extra point Mrs Wide left. They get three. Ah, Get the Cowboys to go three and out. Use up their timeouts. Get the ball back Get within Boswell Field goal range. He lined up a 54 yarder and misses it. But there's a penalty on the play pre snap, which means they still have time left land plate have to kick it. And he makes it from 54 from 59 misses a PhD Mrs from 54. Then they put him back to 59. He makes it to make it a poor point game and a half. Can't write that stuff. You got to make it harder. That's Darla store. Ah, Ah, Laskowski. Remember, I think it was the season opener for the Titans had missed three kicks and maybe an extra point as well and then came on and nail the game winner. Sometimes pressure can up your game, something some people act adversely to it and others and actually get energized by it. That's wait. Look for buys. Wealthy ended a half in Dallas. Pittsburgh. Yeah, that's Ah, It's funny the way the world works, but like anything else, like a corner or relief pitcher. You got to have a short memory. And I guess the kickers do as well and Chris Boswell connecting on 59. Make it a four point game, which is that where it is right now, almost five minutes gone by in the third quarter..

"The Chicago Bears have the ball Next score wins. 23 23. With less than five minutes to go in this first period of overtime. We will keep you posted on the score. If Chicago can manage to pull off this win, we will see guys. Let's talk about one of the best teams in the NFL. If not the best team in the NFL, the only remaining undefeated team in the National Football League and that is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Another big win from them Today, Their defense still looks impressive, but their offense is fun to watch without. You know these flashy numbers that you might see from other offenses Field? What have you seen from the Steelers team that you like, So far everything I like everything. So let's let's let's go through this bit by bit, because I think it is really a four pronged conversation. On offense. They've got three good wide receivers. Junior's misuse had a disappointing year and the Steelers haven't slag one bit offensively as a result of the offensive line has got sturdy, reliable players better office burger. He may not be the player he was at one point early in his career, but still operating at a very high level. Within the construct and the structure of this offense. Offensive line. Just tough, reliable. You kind of know what you're getting out of them. James Conners run well for them, basically all season on defense. They're swarming. They're harassing their incredible defensively upfront. I don't know. There's a better defensive front football from the Steelers mean budgetary and TJ. What awesome pass rushing to owe you got Cam Heyward, Who's a beast in the middle's to find two? It really good player. And they lose dead and Bush a player they viewed as irreplaceable within their defense couple of weeks ago, and I'm not saying they don't miss him because they certainly do, Mrs. But about this Robert Spillane fills in Today has a pick six and a fumble recovery. The defense is very good, the reliable on special teams, at least with their kicker Chris Boswell, and then finally, and this is the part that I think needs to be talked about extensively. Is that my tomans an absolute stud like Tom, when all he does is lead men and you know, some coaches are defined as Defensive minded or offensive minded. It's not a bad thing, but about the coaches that are almost call them CEOs of their team, right. Mike Tomlin reminds me of that. Mike Tomlin is has this team and complete control. Never too high. Never too low. Always focus on the task at hand. One of my favorite coach's toe watch every single Sunday and there's a good reason why they're now seven. And oh, The Mike Tomlin experience has been fun to watch. Certainly this year in 2020, as the Steelers team looks so so dominant Ben Roethlisberger with 182 passing yards today, two touchdowns, No interceptions and Zach Banner, one of his 00 lineman, joined Game Day earlier on ESPN radio. To talk about his Q B and the way we operate, especially on the offense inside of the ball. It's all through him and whether it's through his guidance of his play calling when he called 60 know howto play, you know himself, does it, you know, turn the mike off. And or if it's you know him, slowing the game down and really taking an analytical approach. Or just says Hey, I'm gonna leave this team and throw the rock 10 times on this drive. That's just how Ben is really hard to explain once again, stuff that doesn't appear on paper. Her's a couple minutes ago. You dated yourself a little bit by saying that when you and your wife were for stating Instagram wasn't around. That wasn't really something that you used. I think of Ben Roethlisberger and everyone always talking about how he's old. He's getting older is 38. I mean, now you're the resident old guy on our show. You might not even be the oldest one among us. But now you are because the instagram comments. How awesome is it to see him running the Steelers offense in this way at 38 years old? Yeah, well, first of all, I think that I am going to be the oldest in terms of years. But I definitely wisest very know I act like an old man and I have acted like an old man. Since, Really. I was in college. It just Kind of my persona. The old man who has a Mohawk. However, I think back to what Ben Roethlisberger does is Tashi, can we? I think we just got a little snippet in terms of how he conducts the huddle, right? Yeah. This is really fascinating. My turn off his mic, right? I don't even know how to do that. I had a mike in my home it pretty much the whole time I played the middle linebacker position. I even know how to disconnect those wires, so he's able to either tune it out or disconnect. However, he doesn't think that's awesome. However, I think that what he has been able to do is set a standard. And I think that Mike Tomlin Yeah, I was kind of nodding my head along with field as he was talking about Mike Tomlin and the CEO role that he takes He really does do that. And I think that Moorhouse coaches need to take that kind of lead. Stop being play callers. When your head coach, run your organization like a CEO, that is the role that you currently are in And then when you have store players like a Ben Roethlisberger, you delegate you delegate some of these two minute drives if he get if he's the best play caller In your program for that game, let him continue to call the place. They have that much experience where that is possible..

As we check in with Jeff Hathorn in Pittsburgh. Ah, a couple of interceptions by Baker Mayfield have been key. The first returned 33 yards for a touchdown. I make a Fitzpatrick camp Sutton had the other that resulted in a Ben Roethlisberger 28 yard touchdown to a wide open James Washington. James Connor, also with a three yard touchdown run Chris Boswell 35 yard field goal. Now the Browns have driven down, You know, a couple of key stealer. Penalties have driven down to the dealer 18 yard line. Third and five. At the two minute warning the Steelers late Cleveland 24 to nothing. Here in the first half. All right, Thank you very much. Andrew Smith in what has been a surprise so far in terms of how one sided it has been. The Steelers are rolling right now. 24 to nothing. The cult's trying to mount a comeback after a tough start, Let's check in with Andrew Smith and Indianapolis. With 4 38 to go in the second quarter, The Indianapolis Colts have cut the Cincinnati Bengals lead to 24 to 14 Philip Rivers hits Trey Burton from 10 Yards out the Kappa 75 yards drive. And it was a really efficient drive for the Colts after a couple of three announcing a turnover in the first three possessions, the cults of unleashed Philip Rivers and Teacher, the passing game and right now he's 11 of 17 185 yards and had a couple of big throws on that drive A 21 The order to Jonathan Taylor 22 yesterday. Zac Paschal. Setting up the 10 yard touchdown to Trey Burton. Burton now has a rushing and receiving touchdown in the game to the Colts of But the Cincinnati lead to 24 to 14 after trailing 21 to nothing. Earlier in the game, Cincinnati scored on all four of its possessions, most recently a 47 yard field goal by Randy Bullock. That temporarily put them up 24 to 7. Joe Burrow is eight of 13 163 yards for the Bengals. Joe Mixon has 44 yards rushing, but he has a foot injury. He is questionable to return, so For 38 to go in the first half the Bengals leading the Colts 24 to 14. That's a big injury is Joe Mixon had gotten off to a very good start and already a factor today in the Bengals 10 Point lead, but the Colts coming back. Let's check in with Alan Siegel of the half in Fox Borough where it's been all Broncos so far, but still very much. Ah, game right now, Alan. You broke up a little bit, so I'll just get the report will. Hopefully I can hear you when we cut when I got him when I shot But it is 12 to 3 of the half year and it's been all field goal situation. As Brandon McManus has four field goals for Denver from 45 from 44. And from 52 27. Nick spoke has a 41 yard to go for the Patriots, and it's been a rough first half of the Patriots offensively. Cam Newton, nine of allowed 100 yards but really has not had a lot of time to pass the dead bird pass. Rush has been a little bit more effective than I think. The Patriots expected Russia Ball for 11 37. Cam Newton five carries 15 yards. Sherlock is not all that bad checks for 1414 yards. Lindsey has run the ball nine times, 54. They get 86 on the ground, but you could definitely see the rust. Both ways, actually, because neither team has really played a game in two weeks, So it's been a very uneven first half goals has mentioned and will be interesting to see if the Patriots jam Newton Get some things going big. If not, they're going to end up on the bad side of the score. Rich. All right. Thank you very much. Alan Siegel in Foxboro, 12 3, bigger Mayfield just throwing a touchdown pass. It's 20 for six point after pending there the Eagles trying to get something before the end of the half as they trail Baltimore Big let's check in with Michaela Wango. Get it out. 1 54 to go right now. The reviewing whether a past to Greg Ward of Eagles was inbound. He had one for them, but does not appear. He had the second. That plane may be called back. Well, well. The results on that one. Eagles is the best drive us far because ahead put Jalen hurts him on a walk on a 20 yard run on his first play. And then on the second plan, the notified of this driver involved in behind quarterback at course you once on the far side of the field. If those courses it was well behind the line of scrimmage once or back toward Then scramble past one up the vendor in a couple of years in that place, and that place offensive before that passed, the Greg Ward was well to catch. And so the love of the 1st and 10 inside Baltimore's 28, You're lying once before to go with words. Run hang under a potentially before the half closes out. Thank you very much. Michael Huang go in Philadelphia. That, said the Brian Scheibel in Jacksonville, where it's been a pretty one sided affair so far as we're late second quarter here's Brian. Yeah, no question about it, Not Plater. Just moments ago. 31 Yard Field goal. Let's start things off this hour in Pittsburgh. I told you about the Steelers having no problems today with Cleveland. Let's check in with Jeff Hathorn. Has been all stealers started with the makeup. Fitzpatrick pick six of 33 yards. After struggling for much of the first half Ben Roethlisberger with six straight completions, including one of 36 yards to chase Claypool, down to the three yard line. James Connor finished it off with a three yard touchdown run. He has 50 art so far, and that score here in the first half mentioned to make a Fitzpatrick pick six and a 35 yard field goal. "All right. Got to Robert Woods. That's a touchdown pass for 25 yards. The bill still lead 28 Ram 17. But here come the ramps. Like I said, they're awake, and they're not going down without a fight. So the bills up by 11 is that enough? They need to pad that because the Rams are coming and they're coming quick. You know that Ram's offense. We talked about it earlier is dying is dynamic. They can put points on the board fast. I also just don't. I'm not his biggest believer in this Ram's defense, and if this is going to come down to putting points up I'm fully confident the bills can match them scoring points in this one. I just think there is a look at the Rams that school if they're going to start to do something offensively, But can they stop Josh Alan and this bill's offense that remains to be seen? Yes, that does remain to be seen. Chris Boswell made a 26 yard field goal for the Steelers. However, the Texans are still up by one. So it's Texans 21 Steelers 20. Also, Stephen gets Kowski 51 Yard Field goal. Viking 17, Titans twelve's the Vikings, still hanging on there by five over the Titans. Interestingly enough. Do we have an update on that touchdown from Nick Foles? Alan Robinson? I know it's under review. And it was a close one is it is it an interception isn't a touchdown. We're still gonna be a tough call. To tell you to me. It was a go up and get the football. Alan Robinson High pointed that thing, But Denard made a very physical attempt at the football and when they came down to the ground Denard, the defender had that football. So to me that looked like an interception if it wass, but you have to overturn. It isn't enough to overturn it may look like it. Wass again. Just tell Teo let everybody know That's not our Nick Foles. Nick Foles. Three great football. That's just a phenomenal It's a blind defensive play if that's a turnover, But regardless, the narrative in the story that needs to be told here immediately is you feel a buzz. You feel a renewed sense of confidence from this bear's offenses. They moved the chains to even be in the position. They're from a well placed ball from Nick Foles to maybe have six. Either way. This was in a move that was inevitable that clearly had to be done, and it's being done with three in week three when I thought It's your business was going to have this spot for the year. I thought they were really going to invent now weigh him being the guy. And I think this is going to go the other way way. I tell you that I not tell you they would have a short leash with Travis. Katie was right. You are, I said from the everyone's freaking out that he was named the starting quarterback. Unlike listen, the man plays well against the lions he can win against The Giants let him in for those first two weeks, then we'll have an extremely short leash. You know what happened? The leash was extremely short. Whether or not this is a touchdown or not for Nick Foles. It's an interception. The point is, he struggled in this game against the defense. That's not very good at all in the Falcons and you throw in Nick Foles, and now do you go back? I don't even know how what you do if you're mad, Maggie, I think you just ride with fools. Now from here on out, we do have an update in the Niners Giants game. The 19 yard touchdown for the San Francisco 40 Niners. So it's 23 right now. Niners Giants nine again. That game has just been plagued by injuries. Both teams There's issues with that ground. I don't know what's going on Somehow, the last two weeks, the 40 Niners, despite all the injuries are finding ways to win. So again, the Niners are up 23 to 9. Huge play just happened. In the Titans Vikings game will tell you about it next, and I'll let you know if that bears touchdown was overturned or not. Chris Boswell, Robbie Gould. Seventh on the all time list. Percentagewise percentagewise Stephen Gostkowski. Kai Forbath is in there. Mike Vander Jack. That's the list there yesterday unless they're enamored with some other kicker out there. How could you cut him after one week, given his background for whatever's going on? It's just one game. They ended up winning and you could wink at that. And just, you know, he's got to get past it, I think is a background with the Patriots and what he's accomplished up until now. You can't cut him after one week. No, But if he misses that kick last night, one and one was blocked. I believe of those four misses one. Someone got a piece of. I just wonder if he missed that kick last night. Is he still employed today? Yes, McLane. I was just saying. The guy's like you want to get Justin Tucker but isn't he's such a freak that there's only one of him, but I can't think of another kicker in that realm. No, no, there's nobody like that. I don't think Stephen Gostkowski's Hall of Fame has a lot of rings and stuff, but I don't know where, like if you're going to make it as as a kicker. I mean, you have to have 2000 career points doesn't feel like that. You've got to be You have to have won some big games. I'm guessing I don't know what the criteria is. When we look at a kicker and you go Boy Hall of Famer like Justin Tucker, you go home of Famer, then Cherry go hold of Famer. Morten Andersen just got in. As the Hall of Fame, but he had so many points and then the all time leading score. In NFL history. Who else did you have in there? Pete? Go. Black Sea Hall of Famer young scanner Rude instead of rude. Yes, you know, like it's tough to get in there as a kicker. I don't know. And Gostkowski is not even the best kicker in franchise history with planetary guys has his 12th all time in points. 1700. Upon you mentioned the Raiders taking Janikowski in the first round years ago. He they got crushed for that If you go back to 1973, they took Ray guy, the punter and also in the first round 23rd overall pick. Imagine if someone in this current NFL state you're watching the draft, and they took a punter The 23rd pick. Even if that guy went to the Hall of Fame, they be crushed and rig I went to the Hall of Fame. Yes. The club Roberto Aguayo with the box second round pick back around. Pick that's been the most lame bastard didn't make it. He choked, you know, you know, but I, You know, God's Kowski. He's on the all time list, but Aside from Justin Tucker on that all time list. Those aren't all time greats on their lot of indoor kickers. Obviously, you know, Brian, but they you know they they've perfected. Kicking Now. That's why you get thes high percentages here. And if you're gonna kick in optimal conditions that certainly helps his well club. What are you guys still down with a long extra point? No, I'm I'm fine with their a few missed on Sunday a taste. It's interesting. I mean, we taken away the kickoff. And I'm fine with the extra point. I don't want to change too many things. It just feels like a weight got to change things up. Things are boring. We need more scoring. Yeah, I think it is the Chargers game the other day. I think they may have a policy of not returning to kick twice. Their kick returner got the ball. One yard deep. I mean, at the almost at the end line reuse barely in the end zone. Each has said he put his hand up. One of them went over his head and just bounced a foot behind him, and he put his hand up like for a fair catch. It's like they decided not to bother with the play will settle on a poll question here. Fill in Indiana. Good to have you back, Phil, What's on your mind? Hey, Dan. Always a pleasure body real quick in the not too early category here for hypotheticals. If you're the Jets or giants and you end up with the number one pick In the draft. You go ahead and take Lawrence. You deal and I just want to get your thoughts. I mean, not too early category. I don't think the Giants would take Trevor Laurence. They trade the pick. But I don't know about the Jets feels like the Jets. I feel like Sam Darnold is gonna have a career after he leaves the Jets like it just feels that way. That you're you know, he has to go to the line of scrimmage and go. Who? Who.

He's had a he's had a an interesting year with with going through the highs and lows going from misunders kicks. You know, the one game to win and special teams player of the week. Yeah. It's been an ups and downs type of a roller coaster for Cody parkey. And he's not the only kicker who's been that situation. We talked about Chris Boswell a little bit earlier in the show. Ultimately, the eagles force the issue with that late touchdown drive. And while they did not have the two point conversion to give them the three point cushion what they did have was a situation in which they left under a minute on the clock and the bears had no options, but they had to force the issue. Now, they did. Well, Terry Cohen with a fantastic run back. I mean, I had a text from a friend of mine who's an eagles fan. And and it was nothing, but oh no with a bunch of exclamation points. So you have the Tariq in thirty five yards on the cake return in which he wriggles away from what look. Ashore tackle then Allen Robinson. Find some space in the secondary and halls and a twenty five yard catch and their infield goal range instantly. They managed to pick up a few more yards before they send Cody parkey out there. And as my eagles fan friend said to me, it was all about the time out. So Cody Parke's first kick was straight and true and a game winner. And I know doubt, I can tell you that eagles fans had that in their stomach like here it comes. And then second time probably Trayvon was at Trayvon Webster is that who who got a finger on its that was who was talking about it in the in the post game locker room. Everybody was pointing to the eagles Hester. I'm sorry. Trayvon Hester who got a finger on it. I knew that name didn't sound right. And so while that may have been a small part of it. I think if you look over and over at the replay, you'll see it didn't change the spin or the trajectory of the football that much it had plenty of height. It was just not on. Line. And if it had been spitting, maybe the different speed or it had been spinning maybe one iota to the right or the left will that. Maybe it bounces off the crossbar and goes through as opposed to doing off the crossbar and coming back out. I mean, that's sports. You cannot make this stuff up as Cody parkey said it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. I like the fact that Matt Nagy feels as though this is just a stepping stone for what's to come. He has faith and Mitch Trubisky. The three hundred three yards of offense. Coach Nagy wasn't even hired by the Chicago Bears away from the chiefs this time last year, we talked to start the year be obsessed to be the best. That was our that was our slogan, and they did that they really did we have fun this year. One team in the youngest to hold that trophy. It's not gonna be us hopefully down the road, it will be, but we had a lot of fun and just love our guys to death offense. We just did our job and just try to get as close as you can to give our team an opportunity to finish it and just came up short. So it's also saw a little bit expected to end that way. You certainly saw the shock on the face of Mitch Trubisky. Matt Nagy all of the bears on their sidelines again trying to register what just happened shocked. "I don't know what the average salary is for a lot of them are rookies though, or early in their careers, which means they're not on contracts like that. There are some who are making more than that. I mean, I I get it. It's based on their past and all pro and pro bowls and all that jazz. He he had a bad year for sure and he's not the only one if we look around the league there are others. Obviously who had rough years even though they were Pro Bowl kickers. So I appreciate the call, Nick. Thanks so much. Thank you. Thank you eight five five two one two four two two seven that's eight five five two one two four two two seven. Why is it escaping me right now who the kicker for a shoot who was the kicker who just got injured and put on injured reserve, none them not it wasn't this weekend. It was going back to the end of the regular season. And he missed a terrible kick in what week sixteen and then didn't play in week seventeen o Boswell Chris Boswell. So I mean you and he was a Pro Bowl kicker as well and mistake, and he's making roughly four million I could be awful little bit. But I mean, there are paid commensurate with their experience as well as their resume their percentages parking earned that he's. He's definitely had a down year as did Boswell. All right. We'll continue with your calls. Eight five five two one two four two two seven. What will you take away from this weekend? What will stick with you? Remaining College Football Bowl Games with the Most Entertainment Value
"We're gonna talk about the college bowl games because there were some this weekend. Yeah. You and the other five people that watched the ball games. I'd like to talk about what you saw. So what was your best and worst from the bowl games? We can and who won the Louisiana New Orleans. Jumble. Aia bowl. Wait. What Louisiana's you said? A lot of words Louisiana New Orleans jambalaya bowl. Well in the cure bowl. I think is what you're trying to inform. Tulane beat Louisiana forty-one twenty four, but they were a lot of turnovers caused by Louisiana fumbles. And they thought they were gonna come back. It was actually pretty close game. But to kind of spread kind of got away from them and they play excellent on the offense deciding came back from those turnovers. So they took that game. That was my only in my bowl picks. That was my only loss. I got each other, right? Like, I said I picked Utah state to beaten North Texas. A just man had on them fifty to thirteen at half. It was thirty eight to seven like this game was over by that point. And I pick Fresno state to go over Arizona state in Francis did win they were the ranked team going to that thirty one twenty. They played really well themselves state did not have their best wide receiver who declared for the draft. So we wasn't not playing this game. His his agent actually paid for him to fly to the bowl game. So he wants them play which was kinda cool Georgia Southern parallelly beat eastern Michigan twenty three twenty one. They play. It was twenty one to twenty. And then it was a going into like two minutes of the game. It was a two minute drill. Basically. They drove down the field. All right down the middle. Just getting twenty twenty art play. And they go to win the game. So that was fun to watch. I picked to win that too. And then Appalachian state against. Middle Tennessee State. But it was apple has been ranked in the AP poll knows them as the team that beat Michigan. But they were ranked this you're actually at twenty five and I picked him to win and they won against forty five thirteen. So I am five in one at the moment. Oh, well, that's so good doing great. But don't. So what's next on tap the next? Are we going to watch the tomorrow, we have a Alabama Birmingham against northern Illinois in the that? I think I'm gonna say here Bundy, Boca Raton bowl. Yes. It is the book Raton bowl. My god. These names I love him. I love these bowl games. Who'd you pick for that one? Let me check like oh picks. Actually, I will check. I have a live idea. Really? No, no, no. I I always saved. My so Frisco bowl. I oh. Well, since Birmingham, Alabama ram wasn't a school wasn't a football program. One point and then won their conference this year. I picked on to go over northern Illinois to to win the Booker Raton. Yes. And then I think Wednesday also there is a big state versus Ohio in the Frisco bowl, which I pick Senegal state to win. But Thursday's the real bowl game that everybody's excited about the band Marshall and self mowers gasp. Up south Florida versus Marshall hell is a Gasparilla bowl. Sounds like something from the eighteen hundreds. But I picked south Florida to win that one I had to pick an underdog in. Anyways fridays. Also, Toledo versus Florida international. We'll talk and. Gotta talk about Chris Boswell on this thirteen misfield goals. Searcy lucky to not be fired today. I think he's lucky that so many other kickers are so bad that he's still like stands above the rest though, like in terms of being bed. I Mason Crosby look like Robbie gold. You know, the thing with that. Is there are so many acres who have been playing absolutely terrible that he's just lucky if they were there weren't so many other terrible terrible kickers. He would not be in
Raiders craft a day to remember in a season to forget
"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Raiders crafted data remember in a season to forget by an Killian, call it. The revenge of the Coliseum every raiders game in Oakland. Feels like a week these days one final farewell to the memories in the moments that have filled Oakland Raiders history with most of the recent ones being largely forgettable for much of Sunday. It looked like game thirteen of the woeful twenty eighteen season was going to be just another whole home losing affair until the Coliseum rose up and said it shall not be. So that this was raiders versus Steelers, dammit for probably the very last time in Oakland, and it was going to be memorable. So after the raiders took the lead with twenty one seconds to play on a touchdown pass from Derek Carr, Derek carrier. And after the Steelers got into position to tie the game. Thanks to a forty three yard, hook and lateral. The old building. And it seeping innards went to work. Sunday's game took place in a chilling December ground fog that cast the Coliseum in gloom slicked the cracked concrete and suck moisture to the surface of the field. It was slippery out there Oakland running back. Jalen, Richard said, I was slipping it's always slippery. Here said tight end Jared cook, Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell trotted onto the field for the game tying field goal. Try planted his left leg and as he swung back. His right to kick his plant leg gave out from under him leaving dark Divet in the grass and the raiders filled with joy the raiders had won. They beat their historic rival, Pittsburgh twenty four twenty one for just their second win at home this year and third overall in the midst of the uproarious celebration on the field head coach Jon Gruden ran down to the black hole to high five the fans, it was the type of image that all the citizens of raider nation had in there. Minds when they got the news in January the Gruden was returning to Oakland. But there's been precious little to celebrate. I went to see my old friends all grownup Gruden said we're to in ten actually three in ten after the win. I wanted to thank them. It was an awesome seen today. I appreciate their support. They've been with us. No matter what it wasn't awesome seen black and silver mixed with black and gold. There might never have been so many opposing fans in the Coliseum for raiders game. Every play resulted in a roar from about half the crowd. I was surprised raiders receiver. Seth Roberts said I didn't know they traveled like that. Oh, they do the forty Niners can vouch for that. The Pittsburgh fans whose EM was dampened when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went out with a rib injury and the offense stalled he came back in the game to orchestrate one. Go ahead. Touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. And then got the team into field goal position with. That remarkable lateral play. But then the Coliseum rose up and did its work and rothlisburger exited without having one in Oakland leaving with an Owen four record. So Big Ben what were the field conditions like out there? Terrible. He said, but we knew that coming in. I shouldn't say terrible. I'm sorry. That's the wrong word the conditions weren't ideal. But our offensive coordinator Randy Fitch ner had addressed it all week and preached it every day to the offense. He said to make sure you have the right shoes. You saw how many times guys slipped out there? I think they might have slipped even more than we did Boswell said he's been using the same cleats since he'd been in Pittsburgh with seems a little crazy given the different conditions. Every NFL field offers, you can't blame anything Boswell said. It's his bad as it is for me as it is for anyone else. The kicker slippage is not going to go down in history with the immaculate reception or other great. Moments in the history of the two teams, but it gave fans a fun outcome in a woeful season. And the woes have continued the raiders are in position for the number three draft choice who will be making the decision. There was a story Sunday morning that general manager Reggie McKenzie would be departing the team after the season all the principles MacKenzie Gruden and owner Mark Davis, no commented on the story, which wasn't exactly groundbreaking. The assumption has been from the moment Gruden arrived and only reinforced as the season has unschooled that McKenzie would be on his way out sooner or later the players who MacKenzie drafted and that Gruden traded also were in the New Sunday receiver Amari Cooper had three touchdowns for Dallas including the game winner in overtime and two hundred seventeen yards on ten catches. The Cowboys are ready to put him in their ring of honor right now and Khalil Mack helped the bears beat the Rams on Sunday night football. A spot the Steelers raiders matchup got flexed out of partially because of max increased starpower. Meanwhile, the raiders sit tied for the worst record in the league with one game left in Oakland this season and ten thousand question marks about their status next season. The building is falling down around them on Sunday night, a janitor discovered to dead mice in the soda machine. In the press box, the one that dozens of people had been using to pour their drinks all day truth what a place, but on Sunday, it gave raiders fans at least one more memorable moment. A win courtesy of the dank damp Coliseum.
Steelers fall to Raiders as Chris Boswell falls on game-tying field-goal attempt
"Go to Oakland and lose yesterday. Unbelievable. Twenty four to twenty one Chris Boswell missed an extra point. But the story of this game for a while was Ben Rothlisberger getting hurts volume. He stayed out until they started to lose. And then he goes back in. Yeah. We'll ribbon DRAM in the fact that he was back on the sidelines. Sounds like he was cleared to come in. Mike Tomlin said later that. It was the game flow that the game at the time did not allow for him to return. You know, what our interpreted the bottom line? He went into the locker room to get X. Rayed checked out comes back. He's okay. Yeah. Not a great game for an Tonio Brown. Five for thirty five. Jersey was unbelievable though. Eight thirty three touchdowns thirty three points for juju. But the real story was how would this backfield shake out yesterday? Jalen Samuels, Stephen really, the answer was an overwhelming. Jalen Samuels is the guy Stephen really found the end zone, but he had five carries for four yards. One. Touchdown. Jalen Samuels, by the way, seven catches on seven targets of sixteen point two. If James Connor MRs next week and Adam Schefter reported it's possible play. But we'll find out later on. Then you have to figure. Jalen Sanyo's is an Rb to again this weekend's the
The Dolphins' Hook and Lateral: Is it the future of football?
"Dolphins. Six ninety nine touchdown was the longest touchdown with no time left to win a game in the Super Bowl era. That's good. Okay. Is the hook and lateral. The future of football Robert Mays show twice today. Man, more teams should do it. It won one game and had the opportunity to win another. But the Steelers when forget your Chris Boswell compensate went full Steelers. Yeah. I kind of think that one of the things I've talked about when when people have asked you what the next step in football is I actually think it's kind of it's not hooking laterals. It's sort of multiple people having the ball in the backfield. And then one of them throwing almost sort of like what the saints are doing a little bit with three quarterbacks. I if you have a crappy quarterback, it's better to have three of them and just have a little Mr. action there. Princeton does that with on those option plays, and they'll actually hand it to the guy that's the option runner, and he's also a quarterback's throw it, right? But apparently when I tweeted about the hook 'em out bit. Some people say the guy coach calorie the guy who doesn't punt who's famous for not punting. His thing is hook him are actually the next step in football. And actually, I had a role a thing as far as you're going to say, it's the same thing. Yeah. I've never I've never used that phrase hook and lateral before the Wikipedia says hook and lateral sometimes referred to as hook and ladder. But it's called hook and lateral. The Wikipedia I've never said hook and lateral in my life. It's a regional thing. It's like pop verse coke there you go. I just said, you you say, and you firmly believe that was the that was the term. I was like, okay. Well. I wasn't going to come in on shore. Good for you, buddy. I do any research. I appreciate that. I've always had hooking ladder. Maybe that's just the varsity blues influencing the way, I talk about football. Well, it's all. It was it was nuts. I mean, the play was insane. It was absolutely crazy. I even watch in real time. It was too hard to process. I mean, you have gronkowski back there. I guess to prevent a hill. Mary. And then the last thing you want with the guy who can't move that. Well, being your last line of defense happens. Right. So rob gronkowski is not the guy who went back there. That's so he's not Earl Thomas, I think we learned that today or. Or like Julio's defended those plays pretty pretty well in the past. Knocking those Johnson Calvin John yet. Yeah. Calvin Johnson has been a great great last play guy. But they knew they knew it was going to be a hook out excuse me, hook him out. All they said that the I mean you had to it would've been a seventy seventy yards in the air is capable for half the quarterback. Just not Ryan tannehill. Heff the quarterbacks might be strong. But yeah, I mean, I bet I bet a lot of them could throw seventy yards in the air.
