"To the indianapolis star dot com dockets. I assume i won't be back at espn and it wasn't anything with espn. Who was just me saying. I gotta assume. I can't i can't change what i can't change. I can just do my job. And it was just literally and i've had so many people say was taken out of context now. I don't know what i set. Truthfully because as you said i go three hours. I don't know that was literally this much of congress literally monte. Because i was talking about six graders like this is a man. Slick get this out to. This is a man that literally south. He told me this one time he said dad. I barged into the board of governors meeting the owners meeting to they were not going to let the pacers into the nba. He barged into me. He said i'll never forget. He said i acted like an ass to get in and acted like gentlemen once. I got it and he had a presentation. However you did it in the early seventies and got the pacers into the ab me into the nba. They were not want to be in there. Now here's an listen to this. You will not believe this in nineteen seventy seven. The pacers were leaving india. So you know what slick and his wife nancy did. They started a telephone. Can you believe like the jerry. Lewis telethon thought. The entire community of indianapolis came out. And just like the old jerry. Lewis phones in the background. Hey well donate ten bucks all donate whatever and he saved the pace this man. He won a national championship. Made the game. Winning fritos dean smith fouled him in one thousand nine hundred fifty three in the anniversaries. Kansas missed. the i said something. Warm was running down his leg made the second goes from their plays. Eight years in the nba becomes a coaching pacers. Wins three aba. Championships gets the pacers into the nba and saves them with a telephone and then becomes their beloved broadcast any dirt. My show and i you know to norby an leader. I apologize anyway embarrassing. I feel terrible about it. It was a throwaway line and he got like brought into a big deal and like so. I'm wearing my spn. taylor. I've got a question for you. Is there any reason why your the laundry room. Well yes if you must know. This is my wife's office my wife. Lovely lee ross is down dockage. I always forget that she's married to now. She's downstairs doing. She's doing the maryland. Michigan game for big ten network. So she's on coaches calls downstairs. Where i normally would be my stepdaughter teague. Home from. Harvard is sleeping upstairs. So i'm her office in the laundry room. I was just a good look by the way lisa wash. I mean it's a. It's a good luck. I mean i i notice the big thing of detergent. I can relate to her. Only you always you only you could could do the show in larger and and pulled off matt. Everyone could pull off but end very very soft hands on the wedge coming in. That's like the misconception. Dan doctors golf game. Everyone that will be exposed. Doesn't need a very big good at the iron sits down into the ball with the iron range but What he does do very feathery round agreements. Very feathery been lifting. I've been on nautilus. I'm ready to hit the ball. Lost weight melting away. I think we're going to have coach beard joints so before coach. Beer gets on. Tommy malate arizona. A lot of people thought you know maybe go by the way of north carolina. You david maybe miles. Simon and maybe you know maybe a damon stoudamire maybe go by indiana. Obviously mike woodson do you think arizona needed an arizona man especially coming off what they're going to have to deal with in terms of. Ncwa play or do you think. Tommy loyd who's part of the architect of gonzaga basketball and quality people that hadn't program to success had Good har har. I'd like i don. I don't radars. i did tweet. I want to get this off my chest. I hate when a guy gets a job. Hasn't even the ink contractors even dry out the greatest howard. That's all that stuff like it takes time guy. A chance to together is to have put together sports f bell. This program develop go through that process and you'll three or four years later. Make a decision but it is amazing to me. We have people that absolutely kill hires and before they even know who the person is a and give him a chance to do his job. It makes no sense to me. It's like grading the draft after you have draft. I mean who knows i. I quit to this every over the last. I don't know how many years here in indiana everybody says what's best recruiting class indiana's ever had cody. Zeller go really. They're better than seventy six undefeated class and he. You just don't know about hires you don't know about recruiting classes until they get there and then you grade them after you see what they do. I think tommy. Lloyd's a fine her. I honestly thought they might go with miles. Simon it's kind of the nba. Juwan howard mike woodson kind of thing. But tommy lloyd who knows the west coast. Who's who's paired to run a big program. You know you can say whatever you want a little school girl. That's still is a major major major program in terms of facilities travel scheduling and all the things including so. I think it's a good heart. I don't know the program well enough and the infrastructure. Well enough to know whether they needed an arizona guy. I felt like indiana did Because of what had transpired the previous twenty years and endanger five senate really well about indiana and arizona needs to do this. I kind of think they dane told me he goes. Hey he goes indiana for twenty one. Years tried to rebrand itself and that was that was interesting to me. I don't know farah zona needs to rebrand itself. Indiana came back to its previous brand. Without having bob knight but having a bob knight guy i know that arizona needs to do that seth but i don't know that they don't we're gonna find out plain and simple you know who doesn't need to rebrand himself. Chris beer here south coach beer. What is going on. You know how this goes through you know what. Hey coach before we get started. I gotta tell you. Huggins looks like west. Virginia head coach. You sound like texas head coach. Jan lord asks her all you sound like texas. He's.

"Then dockage annoys squared for basically will get fleeced and a couple of weeks a has a statement to make so then wars i do. An article came out where i was quoted. As saying i you know. I assume i'm not working for espn who cares. It was totally taken out of context. And i want to explain it. Good for another good friend but a friend of mine Slick leonard passed away. Click leonard and i'm going to get into him during his five cast because his story is unbelievable. Pacers player won a national championship without you broadcast in the basketball hall of fame when i was going through some stuff About a month ago on twitter. He sent me a note very sick lately but he. He sent me a note. Basically saying houthem. Don't worry about things you can't control caria and then some other things and i kind of use that and as i was talking about six death he died during my show and was really unprepared. I said look. I don't know what's going to happen with. Espn is not going. Have me but you know what. Screw it i got. I can't worry about things that are in. That was the context. And then i talked about The hassle with with these professors. And i said well as best thing that ever happened to me because my wife and i after that started going with a cup of coffee downstairs every day and reading the bible since then and i actually on my show. I showed the number of plans that we had done for the last thirty four days and like like things do in a city of a million people somehow. This became the biggest story. In the indy star in the usa. Today picked it up. And i got my espn shirt on south. I love working at espn. I love the relationships that i have. Whether it's you or taylor bonetti or day fleming or art fox or leave fitting. I love it and i was simply making the point and i must've done very poorly that i can't worry because it's a big. It's a big thing in my life whether i'll be back with the because i love it. "You'd put money on. Okay. So think about that. We'll have a big three and a little three. We'll have the first three and then four through six on the world rankings court should probably going to pick the top three guys on the world rankings for your big three. But you know, after that and after the last two weeks, I'm not sure I'm not sure if there's truly a big three, well, we'll talk about this about sure if there's really a big three then we will take calls. I want to hear other people's big three and we're gonna play some interactive trivia to question next next segment, but to numbers five one two eight three six zero five ninety before we get to the break. I want to get your thoughts on the Longhorn basketball game today. Ben and talked about it and a lot more. We're we're galette. They were gained. They led at halftime. But they still can't get it done in crunch time. And the longhorns it's not getting better because they have Kansas next Monday. Then they have Oklahoma Saturday than they've got national right tissue the following Wednesday. This is. Is a tough tough road to hell for shocker smart asset something jokingly to to cart bowls about is the big twelve the worst conference offensively in the country. Or is it the best conference defensively in the country? And I think the answer may be the first one. You know? I just think there's a lot of teams that can't hit shots. And I do have a problem with shock at coming out of timeouts. Other coaches seem to be able to have a play that works. I bet tech scored. And now they scored three baskets out of timeouts onset plays inbound place inbound plays, and I don't think Texas did. Yeah. And that's, you know, six points here. That's the difference in the game. How 'bout that crowd today too? I thought tech was very loud tech had a lot of a lot of support there. Yeah. And it really strange because you only usually here that when it's Kansas when Kansas comes or when the aggies user baggy fans, but I thought it was unbelievable today. How loud the Texas Tech folks were and quite frankly shame on you. You people who've got season tickets who sold prime seats to Texas Tech people because Texas Tech folks, they weren't all of the project like the Kansas, folks. Usually are they had a ton of people in the lower floor. They did they had a lot of people in there. And this this arguably was the biggest game of the year at home for Texas. I'm in Kansas will be a big game. But, you know, text number four in the concrete eight in the country. Somebody said they were four and one of those other polls. Sure sure that they call it. And they've only lost one game. But. But how about the Texas Tech job that Chris beard has done a former Longhorn, Texas, actually, really and lost his two best players that graduated. Yeah. And he lost a play early on today. With an ankle injury walked off the court butter. What a job he's done. He really good. Okay. When we come back. We're going to talk about who are your big three in golf. Now. Let me just say this. I'm not sure if there is a big

"Oh, two central standard time in the PM here from the studios, but when it gets you in with our interview with Chris beard on all things, we talk Lubbock, we talk west, Texas. We talk about ingredients to a winning team DNA strands of coaches that influenced him and a little Bob Knight speaking to that last topic. Hope he enjoyed this interview with Chris beard friend of other side at Texas get in with him. And then we'll get him with the mayor and the councilman on all the latest hub city of bents stick right with us. Texas Tech men's basketball coach Chris beard. How are you? Coach doing good. Glad to be here. Winners upon us students all all replace the athletes with finals and finals, get moved around. Yeah. It's great to be. Okay. This time of year, you know, certain excitement for the holidays coming up in the break these kids good, then also got the stress and anxiety of final. So with our basketball team. We're no different. It's while he's had so much respect for student athletes are guys are obviously competing in basketball right now. But also take the student side of things real seriously. So in the next four to five days our guys are in final exams. So today's great example today is that a practice in our normal time, which round three o'clock we're going this evening because several of our players have finals today. Tell me we're big red raider fans at the lease in house and just tell me what was it like wins? I air came in and told you that he's out these going to go the pros, and what did you have to drink after he told you that? Well, he didn't come in and tell me 'cause we made that decision together. But really, it was a great moment. You know, it would just be like, let's take my daughter. For example. My oldest daughter Avery's in college at Columbia University in New York City. She has a passion to get into politics. Although she goes to school to get that degree. If somebody told her, you know after one or two years of garbage, a dream you. Here's your dream job. You want it? Now, you gotta do it. Athletics is no different you go to college to chase your dreams certainly Zaire's dreams to play in the NBA..

"Even in the month of July. One of the things we always talk about is we come off the road that first week say this kind of soul, and then we come back up their second week. We're always talked about who's approved who better this weekend. They did last weekend. So we talked about that all the time. That's all the guys we've got thirteen active players today. We'll start practices afternoon saying, hey, everybody can just get one percent better that might be a little bit more effort be a little bit more coach -able being a little bit more disciplined of everybody can just get one percent butter that our team gets thirteen percent butter. So, you know, I'm no math major two point five guy. But I know everybody gets a little bit better. I came gets better two points up on me to three. Doc, did you actually graduate of Indiana. In the Anna. They gave away degrees. Drive down the snow. You went to. Hi did do that. With the man the man make you go to class, brother. I'll tell you. What I I when you go to Texas Tech practice. It's an experience. I just I truly the way the way your kids brace practice and embrace coaching. It's not like that everywhere. And you talk about that one percent for everyone. It's not a choice. It's the mandated. It's expected. It's you know. Everyone's accountable for it, but your practices, and that's the one thing about now that we're not coaching is we chance to see everyone practice. I can sit what your practice every day coach. Thank you. Means a lot to we have a lot of fun to think. Yeah. You know, along the way, I know I know this when the players come back we've had Canaan Evans, Zac, Smith Zaire even came back this summer for couple of days. And you know, we all hear that thing that guys wish they had one more game. And all that. But really what they all wish they had more practice, you know, one more time to get out there and compete on. And you know, it's one thing Tina told me today just kinda different that that level. We don't even kinda misses a competitive way ago coaches getting on your like we do in college. So we do enjoy practice every day. It's sacred to us. We told the guys all the time. You only get a certain number of these like, you know, they give you thirty practices. But it really it really. Isn't that to get ready because you got the two scrimmages you got the two days before scrimmages, which always light. And you got the one day before the start. So when you really look at it, you got about twenty three practice start to see them missed obvio-. You know, you might get seven or eight bracket. A month. Depend on how your schedules laid out. So we do have a chance to get to work. I thought that we all enjoy continued success. Good luck. Chris about it over notice. How fast guys like getting off the phone with us now, usually they love us come on. Dude. I know it football coaches, always hit you with whatever, you know. Go eagles. Go wears an Indiana. They're gonna football coaches thing is Leo love each other. So when every interview Leo, okay? How about how about how about the guy much champion day? He did he he said he didn't know it was election day. Why don't coaches think they have to let everyone know how hard work. Or how dumb they are. I mean, they sleep office. And I didn't know his election day the off why now. Office. I'm sorry. That is stupid. I got why would you just drive home ten.

"People can relate to. In Lubbock, and your lumps can relate to you think that's been a big part of it. Yeah. I really do. I think what other younger coach, I never really understood that how you know. I thought just winning basketball is winning basketball. But I think there's a there's a liberty does a truth to you know, what community part of the state a kind of people did a fine with a team, obviously football. I grew up cowboy fan, but being a guy with any new so much about Pittsburgh Steelers, for example, and how they play hard, you know, good basic, fundamental just tough ball kind of with the people. Pittsburgh. I think similar here. We west Texas is a place where people go to work every day. And when you tell somebody gotta do something you keep your word, but a hand shakes out here that means so it's just a different way alive. Really good people. It's way top of my list, while local I would like to think our team resembles that we've got a lot of guys we might not have a bunch of national guys names, but we've got guys play together. We've got guys that get better. We've gotta try to play the game the right way. Let me ask you college basketball star the other day, the focus is on the big names. Right. I mean, you know, the focus is on Williamson, and reddish and Barrett and all that kind of stuff how how much do you as a coach that has gotten right to wear Duke? Did let twelve these programs get how much do you play or pound into your kids? You know, we're not what these guys are supposed to be good. As what these kind of the chip on the shoulder kind of thing. Do you do that? Does that part of what you try to get across to your team? Absolutely. We've got the core values are program like top that list is just truth. Tellers guys all the time. We just take a lot of pride. So and it like it is. You know, we want to be the best Persian of us. We scrimmage one of our close-door scrimmages was a guest, Houston the other day. And I. Great respect for Sampson what he's done a basketball and his teams voice kind of play part. Kind of blue collar like we try to after that scrimmage access code Sampson. If you talked to our team came it our locker, which your luck room sacred place. I don't let anybody block expect or like. That I've spent coach saying we comes in. And he basically said that exact word coach, and we have it up in our locker. But now, he said guys, no sense. Your Texas Tech. You're not Kentucky. You're not Kansas. That's okay. You can still beat those type people. But you gotta know who you are. He said don't ever lose your chip. He's talking about the chip on the shoulder. And I've actually got that typed up in my office. Just stick a wall with a piece of masking tape of. Yeah, we try to we know who we are in every day. We just try to be the best version of us. That's a great thing. Who who are you? How do you win? And I think those those two questions every team has got to identify embrace like if I walked in your gym and asked jar call, right? I who are you. And how'd you win? What would he say? What I say. What they call it. Tell you number one where defensive program, we don't we have to go last year among many things and many of Jackson's we told the guys we've got to be the best defense team of the big twelve to compete. I think a lot of ways we were. We're also team, you know, just believes in development improving. First thing I told the guys after last year's run was we gotta get better players next year. They always kind of look at you could be the same people. But we need a better over we need a better brain. And francis. We're always talking about improving every single day. A lot of people kinda put it on T shirt or wristband. But something we really believe. So today, I've Jekyll is to live a better. We did yesterday. Concentrate approach to that to that point. Can you read a little bit of that in recruiting kid? Absolutely. I think from the city..

"You know, a team and work that we're progress of work. I think so I think definitely the season goes on one of our big identities. Could be are we have linked to. That's what us is. We have some experience. You know, the other night and were gave us all we can handle the first half kind of has been on both sides of those games. I do think we have what appears to be the makings of a good fifteen cent. They held in kind word to seven in the second half. Forty eight to seven was. Say. There's no doubt about it. Last year was an amazing year. But like, you know, what you're gonna get from Keenan. But zehr Seth. I mean, all of a sudden he blows up he's out. He's the first round draft choice. You think you're going to have you have a one and done which is good and bad. It's great for him. It's great foot the program. But obviously, you know, when you expect a guy back you need continuity. But you have a good backward coming back, and you recruited, transferring Matt moody that that has chance to at least feel some of the void. When you look at your back court right now, we are very Matt. And and and Francis. What do you say? Regards goats. You know, we make the run last year to date, and we really return, you know, two of our three guards played most last year. I mean, we're ready was our behalf blessed your play big minutes, March bad, but he's back. He started the other night support adventure covert. I think as a chance to be one of the best players in the big twelve. So even though we lost a lot. You know, we did return to starters Culver nort's. And then you know, really are six or seven man moral and braided Francis of both return. So we do have a lot of new faces. But I think we have enough returners where we can get a good start this month coaching abroad or since Texas Tech. You think football, you know, they'll Texas football thing, but a run to the elite eight. Essentially the perception of the program outside externally. Coke in some ways more than anything. What it does is just Bella date? We got a couple of years ago. We had a vision we gotta day to process plan. You know, we ask players through things they'd never done before we asked our fan base to do things that they have done before. But as to before consistent. Ministrations been great here. We've asked for lot really haven't been told. No. So to have some success kind of validates everything that we do and build the program. I think we'll always look back when latch team and have a big sense of appreciation. We had over ten thousand people here tonight for season opener. That's hard to do anywhere in the country. Not alone. Texas when football season's going on tech football teams good this year right in the middle of mix got another NFL quarterback and got a good defense. So just so appreciative ten thousand people came out on opening night. That's got to be one of the best home Kraus's the big twelve of Kansas. Does what they do. But the rest of us. I put our crowd out there with anybody. I'll tell you. We were up there for game date, then the ownership of the community to me, and that's a testament to you coach the ownership that community, and how you've been able to connect with them in the student body was as good as any place that we've been the years that I've been doing this stuff, and I've been at quote unquote of football school when I was at tech, and and your ability to recruit guys that play a style of bass, what do you think the style that you play?.

"There is more of a focus on coaling some of those fouls. Cylinder rule. Definitely does affect traps. You know, it's interesting if if you watch straps a lot of times guys foul excuse me guys travel, but they call the foul. I and so that's a it's a big shift a turnover with the travel or maybe going to the lines. You don't wanna one they call the file, you know? It's funny. It's almost like you should be able to do that as a rough. But it's really hard. If you you said if you watch traps, and I was watching a bunch before I did Cincinnati game last night people travel constantly are you on referees? Whenever you try. You a watch effete watch a feat during the course of a game. Well, it's interesting because it that's been the case for a long long time. And that was a big that was a big beef of ours. Because we obviously wanted to create as many turnovers as we could. But for whatever reason when there's a lot of people in a small area a ball handler. And there's to trappers it's really really tough to see the feet. And so you know, I heard on the -ficiating video this year. They said they want the officials to ref from the ground from the floor up. So we'll see if that actually happens it'll happen for a month. Goes away. Shock. We I know you've got an event to go to today. But I'm excited to see practice today. And we really do pre sheet you coming on. This would be heck of a game on ESPN radio and also on ESPN. And like, I think he put a grave this puts things in perspective for all of us. You know, people that are here calling the game. But for your players administration staff and anyone watching these young people do what they do on a daily basis. Donate blessed to live lives, we live. I said it last year when we were in Germany. It's it's probably the most moving basketball experience I've ever had because if everything in perspective. We're really looking forward to it and want to say thank you guys going into the season two to both of you guys as coaches of because you put a game in perspective that navy's a different a little bit different than than the majority of the media. So I I don't know if you guys hear that enough, but it needs to be set free. Thanks val. Thank god. I like to welcome in Texas Tech head coach Chris beard, who's done an absolutely incredible job. Coming off a magical season, but opposite building towards showing the consistency. He wants to at Texas Tech coach beard, how is life? We're getting you off the court from individual workouts dockets individual work at the dockage is whether decides to grab one more doughnut. Right. "So that's five years plus two years in highschool not playing football. But all along. We we always said, hey. Then you got a chance to play in the NFL. If you continue building your body and continue approving your motor, and there's a friend of ours. That is a NFL scouts. He's got a bunch of different team eagles the jets and he's from Richmond. And so when we come back over the holidays, you come by practice always would say when you looked at Moee said, that's how they look. That's. That's the thing man. I mean you had Jimmy Jimmy Graham, he ended up making that transition and Kocsis as a great story. But that dude plate for you that dude point heart basketball. I mean, he he was a really really value player. Yeah. Yeah. He He did. did. Moala could play for you right now and make you better. His presence Arkansas playing early in the season different type of team to play obviously, they're so predictable pressure. Now back in the day. People would have said this would have been have it first fastest forty minutes. You're extending your defense a little bit more. But not to the point kinda where you did back at the right? We are. We a lot of night in our opener. I think it'll be situational. Depending on our team foul. Trouble. We're not to the point yet where we have the level of discipline. When the other teams in the phone is of that, it makes sense the press every single time. But I did a good job at the other night. Certainly with Arkansas it's going to be an exciting up tempo. Kane and we're going to have to do a good job making good decisions at the game gets going faster. I got question on that is it harder with the new rules to do two things you want to like back in the day. The press you could in a backward, especially you could bump a little bit. You know, you could put a little different type of pressure. Was it easier to extend your defensive press back in the day where where where officials were a little more lenient with physicality in the backward. I think the fficials feel a level of pressure to call some of those fouls and. Doesn't mean you can't press look at what west Virginia's done. But I do think that certainly entrapping situations and close one on one situations where you're really getting after the ball..

"How comfortable are you now as you've gone along your career here, Texas? Well, one of the things that it affects us, you guys know is your ability to build and sustain culture. Because obviously your best players are your biggest coach drivers. And you know, if those guys are only around for a year then. You obviously have to make strides with everyone else and kind of put someone else in that slot, obviously recruiting you have to do a really good job. Making sure talent wise you have a replacement there. And that's not always one guy replacing one guy. Sometimes you do it by committee. But we feel good about this year's team having a little bit more experience. And we've had the last couple of years, and we don't have a freshman big that is necessarily best player. Like, we did the last two years that presents some challenges. I'm not saying I wouldn't take. Now. And again, I certainly, but. When when your best player is a really really young kid. Just getting started in college basketball. No matter how talented he is. There's a learning curve, and there's certain things that he doesn't yet understand particularly in the first couple months of the season. You do have some interesting. But you know, you've got a guy going hausky who now he's a fifth year senior obviously transfer played last year. But he's transformed in self forget about that the do and cutting off the hair, but the dudes lost like thirty pounds. And I watch a tape of your game. Do you have the night? He looks totally different. What is it like to have a guy like that back who kind of in it with you? You spent so much time with them the area sat out kind of creating a special relationship with them, but seem transform his body and make that commitment to try to get that much better. Terrific jobs is body. It's interesting because most of these guys you guys know it at the cows level, you're trying to get in the eat as much as possible and gain as much weight as possible. But he he's on a different plan and for him. He's done a phenomenal job being very selective with his diet and his nutrition. He's done a great job getting extra cardio working with our strength and conditioning coaches, and then on the court he really been diligent about different aspects of his game. So I really hope that this year could be a great one for him because he's earned that he's worked hard for it. And it really really wants to make your special here. He said, you don't know this but Shaq had a player touchdown last colts game. Oily Cox went up. Yeah. Did you see that fire too? That was a sick cat. Got quite well, let me tell you guys when he came in. He had the lowest motor, and we put him on this plan where where he had to run. What was called the puck deck mile. It was running up and down a parking deck and then down to the end of the street and back. It was it was about a mile, and he as I was running over eight minutes. He was motor was really really bad. And it worked at that. Kids. Put in changing his motor and changing the way that he approached the game with phenomenal. So it couldn't happen to a better guy. Hey, let me just follow up. Did he talk to you about going trying to play football or how did come about? You have any idea. Here's what happened. And if you ever you should have on your show because he's a great basketball guy talked to on obviously, he's having successive football. But this is the type of kid he is he's such a go with the flow guy that when he was a sophomore in high school. He was kind of in a tough homelife situation, and is a coach recommended that that he transferred to a private school to get away. And so he did that you only problem was that private school didn't have a football team. So he did not play football is junior year and senior year, and this is after being a high major recruit as a young kid in high school, obviously came to you for five years..

"Everyone associated with it players coaches administrators just a chance to be around the servicemen and women for these couple days. Cancer represent the university of Texas at a place where obviously there's much much bigger things going on than sports basketball. And then for guys at such a young age, a real shot at at perspective and opportunity to see some other areas of life that maybe they don't think so much about in their little corner of the world. Guys, got some perspective with with Andrew Jones in the diagnosis of leukemia. How is he doing? I know he got in a game big big ovation to take us through him and his journey with with you your team and everything involved with him. Eagle coach he's making strides attitude about the whole process of working is way back. He's not all the way back to full strength. Obviously he really finished up several months of treatment at the end of August. And literally the next month started school and starting workouts with us. So it's been a work in progress. You know, he he was such a high level player before he went down that is expectation is to get back to that point for for, you know, in his own mind really wants to do that on our side of things. We're just so happy that he. Doing well. And he's in school on the court, and we're just excited about him working his way back to full strength. It's an amazing story to me again. That's I'm outside or looking in. I tweeted this out after game someone's cut a clip of of your game the other day that that was the best play of the day. And that was the best win of the year. Just in being out there celebrating life because let's face it, a ten months ago. Just the thought of being out there probably was far beyond anyone's. Everyone's hope, but it wasn't maybe anyone's reality. So firm to be out there. I just thought it was fabulous. But now you gotta play games. You gotta put a team on the court to help you win. I look at your team. Shocker am I on it or off it right now? You're back court. Looks more like a big twelve winning backward than maybe since you've been there is that somewhere in vicinity. We got a really good quit. My first year here we had a lot of older guys. We love the ball after that first year. You're right coaches. One of the courts that you know, we feel can be one of the better hand in the big twelve. But at the same time, we got to go make it happen. Matt Coleman was I started last year as a freshman started. Every game went through the ups and downs and twists and turns of playing against the trae Young's Carter's tape grams in our Lee, but I think he's much much better for it. He sturdier he's better incur would roads. As a senior. I think has an opportunity phenomenal year. You can keep getting better coach how you mentioned guys leaving. You've had guys go bomb blast you the island kid put backup are the guards. You mention different from VCU where you where you established havoc and away you go. How's that been? How're you?.

"Craig Jones was absolutely I'm gonna call HiAce Jones tie trae trade Jones trae young all seas. And you're gonna get fairly. You're gonna have ties. Yeah. His ability at the top thing. Ball fake Shaath? They get it to the middle be patient and the guys that they just the simplicity of what they were doing. Was real was really impressed their impressive. The one thing. The one thing I would say about Zayn Williamson is you're gonna have to you know, he hits his first three, right? And like, I wait a second here. But I think you gotta live with that moving forward. You know, you gotta play him the where you keep them in front if he wants to jump up like he did in the middle lane and find jump up like you did middle lane. But you can't let them get that big body on an angle because potty good on an angle with like when they let him go. Right. They took away. Let him go right right now next game, whoever they're playing army, whatever is going to know, we got a square up on him and just keep in front and so much easier said than done, but may they're fun. Can't we bitch worries is is so premature for document they're going to they're going to be fine. I think the biggest thing is this is a two part thing for Kentucky right now. You've got to be truthful, and the film don't lie. So I mean, you got to be truthful, but then and you've got to be demanding. And you non-negotiables two things that, you know, us not trusting each other. That's not sharing the basketball us being selfish us, not Boston are tail to get ahead of the ball transition not closing out. That's fine. Then you also have to build your team back up. And then I think the biggest challenge for Kentucky. And I really believe this. They got nine like pieces, and you know, what they need three guys to separate themselves. Because you have nine light pieces and things go a little bit south little bits out. You can say, well, you know, he's not playing that. Good wine. I play or he's not you know, why see starting a he missed three in a row. You know, coach is not on him is hard on me when I miss a couple and all of a sudden a team that has likes each other can separate. So I really believe that they've got to have about three core guys separate themselves still play nine, but it's not a democracy. You know, three core guys are gonna play thirty plus minutes a game. Right. The other two guys that's gonna leave ten on each of those positions. And then the other two guys that you might play those guys twenty and twenty but you're not keeping nine happy for a long season less unless you're blowing people out maybe goes to two ships again. Ooh, you play. This. We play there. I guess right now just got headache. When you reports of their demise are greatly exaggerated, greatly exaggerated guy. All coach get the kids, right? You always go back to your own experiences. We went to the final four ninety two first game of the year. We get absolutely. I mean, not killed destroyed in the in the tip off hall of fame. Classic by UCLA with Don McLean, and those guys Tracy Murray came back in and beat them by thirty five in the game to go to the final four. So. Month from now, you forget about it. Let's go there here. Begging other game played in Indianapolis as well. Number one, Kansas Michigan state, and Kansas different Kansas team going on with Kansas basketball when it comes to basketball played on the court. They're kind of an interesting makeup. She got transfers. You've got to lead freshman, you've got a mountain masquerading as a man in a as a bookie what was your take? This is to Kansas in general, forget about Michigan state. What was your first take on Kansas? I really like the freshman guards. I'd love Quinton grime Seth..

"But when things went a little bit south I thought that could Tukhy kids instead of Boeing their necks and fighting back. They all tried to do it on their own. And then there was some things that surprise me. What John did I would've started? All right, Nick, which just nothing to do with this game. It had more to do with. Right. They're going to start a Marquis bold. I gotta match up for him. And he's come so long. I'm going to empower him. That's just me. You don't get he's with everyday practice because I hate to make these. Assumptions that just me just from the days we were in in the Bahamas. I would've played right through retry gone, right? Williamson early. And again, that's again. That's just the one guy. That's different. Anyone else resign waves? Like everyone else we could have at least survived. And then I just thought that they all wanted it. Maybe they wanted to help so bad that the shocks election wasn't good. And the games. We did the Bahamas. Can you remember more than two or three shots that know how many tonight they couldn't they couldn't get a good one? I mean, it was more bad than good for Lyle. And I'm not saying, I guess bad is the wrong way to put I would say more Rushton uncomfortable yet. I mean, and that's what you try to do. Look people think there's no shutouts in basketball. Right. I mean, you don't you. Don't pitch a shut out. You don't play defense like the eighty five bears, and nobody could get a first down guy's gonna score. But the key. What you wanna do is? You wanna make the other team uncomfortable? You wanna make them hesitant? You wanna make an open shot feel weird and Duke did that and you said it before the game, you know, Mike wants to get into contesting it get into the ball pressure to keep the ball on the side, all the old style. Bob Knight's stuff going back really to his days. And army. I mean, that's the stuff that we practiced every freaking at Indiana and Mike was doing that with Duke, and it was refreshing to me to see young guys Seth young guys. Number one understand how to do it. And number two, not only do it. But smell blood in the water and turn it up a notch. I thought that was cool. I thought that was that was coaching that was culture that was these kids being just guys it understanding get basketball. You know? I mean, spun really fun. I think and I do think, but it means you're Pinon like all the international basketball these kids play on the different stages. They play you think about RJ Barrett and success with the Canadian national team think about designing Williamson tore of of where he's played, you know, basically trae Jones being the brother of a guy who's won a national championship at Duke who has even greater ownership. You think that helps guys get it? Yeah. Well, yeah. I do you know, I was reading an article Buzau Williamson and this was a little bit. Like wind guys were trying to run around looking recruiting. Lebron? You know, you go to a game. You can't get in. Let's get there an hour before. Because it's so everything everything these guys do has been big time. Right. I mean, they're not playing in gyms with six people. And but but to me to me with all that hype. It can go the other way too. And we've seen it go the other way with guys we've seen guys become petulant. We've seen guys become uncomfortable. But may look and then Seth Kentucky could add to the coaching element of Kentucky goes on. What is Duke do with it around? Get the ball in the middle. Look shot look down. Look opposite handle his own that's coaching. But that's being home in the moment in big environments into your. Point. I think one thousand percent all of that adds up for those guys to be able to play in whatever environment gets thrown. I gotta believe it's hard. It was hard for me going to Indiana. I practice right. Oh my goodness. That's that's not the easiest thing in the world. So kudos to them. And that was that was the show shows. It really was. And I'll tell you what you want is on those dudes the way they move Zion and RJ at defense, and then they can distribute it drive at move it..

So how ever you regard LeBron James greatest player of all time, the greatest player of this era? And I actually think that LeBron James is living a lot on reputation defensively and Kevin Durant, though his defense wasn't as good most of the season as it was the start of the year and in the playoffs he has shown the desire to play more defense than ever did. So whether or not I think he's the best player. Now the second best player, it's arguable the last decade. He's been consistently the best or one of the top three players in the NBA. Right.
