"We've had irreplaceable icons that have left the game. We just had it with Tom Brady. Tom Brady just left the NFL and retired. Peyton Manning left the NFL and retired. And that's a void, but it's going to be filled. It may not be filled by somebody as good as Tom Brady in the long run. But there'll be somebody that will take our attention. And I think that's true of the college game, both in football and basketball. You know, I'm sure people thought things would never be the same after John wouldn't laugh at UCLA. And we've had other step in there who thought we would have a coach K when he started. I don't know. I don't know who could have predicted that. So I'm not really worried about that. And I'm certainly not worried about about the care, the caretakers that duke and Carolina. I mean, John Shire has already done a great job recruiting. He's got like 5 McDonald's all Americans coming in. And huber Davis. I mean, I think we both feel very strongly that he's not only the right guy, he's as good a guy as we know. So I'm not worried about it, but to your point, I'm damn sure going to save her every opportunity I have to enjoy this game. And each game and then enjoy the rivalry and then as soon as it's over, move on to the ACC tournament and Big Ten tournament and all these things and the NCAA tournament. As big as coach K is and I think he would echo this. He'll leave a void when he leaves. But the game is going to continue on and be healthy and do incredibly well. It's just, you know, I don't know, I don't really know what time in my adult life. I mean, I met coach K when I was 17. I don't really know what time my adult life when he hasn't been the duke coach and that's unusual. That's unusual. And we're all, you know, especially me. I mean, I'm pretty lucky to have had this kind of life with him in it. Yeah, I think just going to be fascinating. You know, moving forward, there's always been that standard bear in the ACC. There's always been that, you know, and doing Caroline, the.

"I think coach drew the great coach Scott drew right here is going to be joining us right now immediately if not sooner. I mean, if it was a choice, go true. To save the dome, hair completely back on the guaranteed you a big win or having that nice little you know, you gotta move around a little bit, but it's eventually gonna go. We've seen your dad, your brother got the bed of jeans with the hair. That's just the way it is. He got the Ginger there. I mean, it was just going, look and just look like, you know, a larger wash red boom, you're good to go for a big game with you shave it off. So we actually the first year we made the NCA tournament. We needed a couple wins to get it done, so we started with the staff after every win a coach would shave their head. And I was going last because I was smart, you know? The second thing is we were blessed to be able to be in the tournament not get to me, so it worked out beautiful. So would I do that? Earlier on in my career, I would have because I know it would have come back right now, I would be bald for life. So I'm probably gonna keep it as long as I can 'cause in Texas there's a lot of sunshine. And people don't understand. Sunburns on the head hurt, you know, I mean, you gotta put sunscreen up there. And by the way, do you know who you're talking to, right? Yeah, yeah. It's the few in the proud, you know? So I want to join your club. It's just not right now, all right? I got a couple of years, hopefully left. Well, Scott, before we get into your team, something in that realm. So I was talking with Nate Oates, the head coach at Alabama. And he was telling me that his coaching staff, they have an annual competition after the holidays. And they put money on it. So each guy puts in some money, the head coach puts in more. But he says they compete on the amount of weight they can lose before the end of the season. And there are three components to it. It's like weight body fat and then percentage of weight, all that stuff. And so you get payouts for each one and Nate is a they used to do it with teams, but now they do it individual. Like they would pair up with another guy. And I thought it was really funny. He gets on his staff about, you know, you cost me last year and kid. You can't stop eating or stuff like that. No, so do you guys your program? You have any little things that you do with your staff, a little competition is a little fun things you do. Wow, that's a great question. We don't do any betting with weight losses. You know, normally during the season, some people eat out of the stress induced, you know? And I think we're one of those staffs are probably eat a little bit more down the stretch. So we're probably not gonna take that away. As far as competing, there's really nothing that we'll do push ups for losing and pair up to coaches and on one team and two coaches on another. We do quite a bit of that. But as far as losing weight or staff competition, probably probably not. What's your go to? What's your go to thing when you're stress eating? When I'm stressing well see, I'm like Mikey, I like it all. So I eat everything, you know? That's within reach. I'm all over it. So, but I can tell you that I did do Kido this year because I needed to drop some weight because I was worried we were going back to suits and none of mine fit. So it's either get all new suits if we went back to that I had to lose a little bit. So I did do that for the first time it worked. Thank goodness we didn't go back to suits, but if I need to fit in one I can. Got Cheetos on that torture. Like what did you eat? Were you eating like cauliflower rice? Well, keto actually, it's one of those all protein diets. Yeah, yeah, so you're eating chicken steak, fish, so all that stuff. What you're doing is you're cutting out all the good stuff. All the sugar. All right. All the breads, the pasta. Yeah, so you need a pound of bacon, but you can't have a little bowl of pasta. You can die of a heart attack, but you just can't have any pasta. Well, how's your team now? I mean, I saw you guys against, I guess, West Virginia, and you've been going through so many injuries and you've had, you know, it's been a roster stop start for you. What's that been like and how have your guys handled it? Well, you know, we started the year and in the non in September, October, we had a couple injuries. And then I was worried at the start of the season, we wouldn't know our rotations and who played well with who, but we got out to a 15 O start. Then Jeremy sprained his ankle against TCU. And then after that, James kenjo got injured. His tailbone and the irony is James his fourth year of college. He's never been injured before. So I mean, he must be eating right, saying a lot of prayers, but I mean, no ankle sprains, nothing, you know? So anyway, he gets injured and then we finally get him back and then we lose LJ and we was Adam Adam flagler and Adams knee got injured against Alabama and hopefully we get him back soon. LJ's got a foot injury and again, both of them can come back once they're once they can tolerate whatever pain. So structurally they're cleared from the doctor to come back when the pain's gone. So like each day I wake up, do we got a full team? Do we got? Because we're undefeated we're 15 to know when we have a full roster, but as you know, us coaches are always good as our players and we got some great players. When you do have injuries which you're going to have, you have to have people step up and we've had that at the same time in the big 12 in the SEC challenge. When you're playing great teams, if you're not on your a game, you're not winning. And unfortunately we've had a couple of those nights. Jeremy Sullivan, all right? Did you expect them to be this good? Because I'll tell you one thing. He is so skilled, his game is so mature, he has an incredible feel. I mean, like, what did you expect from him when you signed him? Because I could watch that guy all day. We wanted to blond or not. Yeah, yeah. Well, and I know I know you guys like watching him, because first of all, he's got toughness, but he's also fundamentally sound. And it's so great when you get a guy who the ball doesn't stick. He always makes the right passes. And I mean, the game you're going to have some turnovers and to have some mistakes. He just has limited amount of them. We really trust him to make right decisions. And defensively, that's where we knew offensively. He would be very gifted and talented because he had a great feeling was fundamentally sound, but we didn't know defensively he'd be able to guard one through 5 like he's been able to do. And to be honest, when he first got here, some of our guards thought he was the one they'd pick on. And to his credit, he's worked hard and improved in a short period of time to where he's he's tough to score on one through 5. And he's got he's got toughness. And then we need that in the rebounding. Anytime you're 6, 8, 6, 9. You got to be able to rebound and he does that as well. Scott with LJ cryer and Adam flagler. Last year, they were role players and playing behind guys that were NBA draft picks and player of the year candidates and all the awards these guys were winning..

"You can go out with your hands. So could you get a look, you could get a small heater in here. No? The first thing was the coolest night. So you'll be fine after that, you think? Just bundle up. Yeah. I don't think we're sleeping much tonight. If I brought my really warm coat, I want to let them use it, you know? Like I got one of those little guy you are. You gotta go out and get him something more. I don't know. I think they're okay, they'll look. I mean, they just got a great setup. That's awesome. It's pretty good. All right, I'm gonna walk out of the tent now. We're gonna go for a little tour down here. What's that? They got another ten over here, rob. All right. How many tents are there? How many people are camping out? Walking on Milwaukee and other markets. At least a 110. A 110. Say hello to Robbie humble. They will come. If the building, they will come. It's pretty good here. I'm gonna go up top and show you. Oh my God. What's up, guys? How are you? So it goes all the way around, all the way around. A man of the people. People recognize him. This is honestly this is awesome. Texas tech is happening though. I mean, this was unimaginable before Chris beard got there. I was here two years ago. Was it two years ago? Right before the pandemic, I think when Kentucky came here and it was not the tenths like this, but it was like a huge party out here. They had food. They had everything. I think there might have been tense. Are you close to the arena? Are you more so like on campus kind of? I know. The arena is right behind the arena right here. Okay. This is right in front of the arena, so. All right, do you want to talk a little bit about you want to move on? Do you want to give a prediction of this game? I'm going Texas tech. I just think they're toughness is in that environment. It's going to come into play. They have so much to play for. And I just think that in order to win in a place like that, you have got to be a group that has got to figure it out and together and I just don't think Texas that group. So I have to go Texas tech. I'm the way I'm taking Texas tech too. Let's find out what these guys are, what they think. Hey guys, you want to be in a quick podcast, give you a prediction of Jessica. What's up? How are you? How are you, man? What's your name? Jonathan. That's your last week here. Oh, a good thing. Are you an answering him? Why have you been answering this guy, Joe? See? He likes me. Hey, so I didn't like you. I know you didn't. No, you liked him. You like me a few years ago. Whenever you're talking great about, yes. Yeah, but beer was here and you guys were really good. I was slowing you guys out. Right, and then you hated me. Now you like me again. Well, you went on the podcast. I said it was the worst job in the league. I know, I know. It's not the worst job. The slander that you did the Texas tech. They don't deserve this. All right, let me get these girls. You're predicting. Well, first of all, say hello to Robbie. How are you guys doing? Good. What's your name? Madison. All right, so your reaction when crispy, it's going to come out tomorrow on the court. It's going to be what? I'll probably be pretty upset. Are you going to yell at bad things up? There is a possibility. Really? I got to say there is. Your mom and dad are not going to be happy. My mom and dad are talking about me. I want to ask you really quick. I want to ask you really quick. In any way, do you feel, will you feel bad for him and do you in any way understand why he would leave? I definitely don't feel bad for him. I think that we had a great community here and everyone loved him. And so I don't see any reason. He should have left or he should have given us more of a decency of talking to us. Like, letting every like all of his fans know instead of kind of just like jumping off. Yep. What do you got there? Got my little art project. I like it. Yeah, I got to say entertained. This is gonna be fun. I know. I'm jealous. You're gonna get to see this tomorrow. How do you not come for this game? No, you broke up with your tank. What makes you do that? 200 bucks. Somebody donated said they donate $200 to charity if I change it. Awesome. Got it. My guy, Jeff is. I don't know. I don't need to this. A hundred bucks to this. No problem. All right. Say hello to her. What's your name? You're both Addison? Yeah. You're not out of school too. Yeah. What do you got? All right. Very nice to meet you guys. So give me one word to describe Chris spirit. That seems to be the common theme problem. Addison number two coming up with ugly. That's brutal. What's up, man? Yeah, yeah. How you doing? Good. Guys, how are you? Just a celebrity. Not yet. What? The other guys, they're freshman, so I couldn't even buy them beer. I could come back and bring you beer. Are you 21? I'll go get some beer later and bring some beer up. What if that room? You're a real hero. My cornhole over there. It's awesome. I know. This is from. No, this looks awesome. It's gonna be a big time atmosphere. There's no doubt. That place gets you out too. Can you see it all? Yeah, no, the football field and all the kids on the tents. Yes. It's pretty unbelievable to think of where Texas tech basketball was ten years ago and to think that they have this today. You know what? People aren't going to like hearing that, but that is a credit to Chris. Chris beard. What's your name again? I'm shocked. Jonathan, Jonathan, are you from Lubbock? No, I'm from the Dallas area, but both my parents are here. And I know the whole I do hope love night. And I will agree. I will agree with y'all. I don't know if crispier doesn't know this. By himself, no. But we wouldn't be here without the same. So there is some level of appreciation. Absolutely. But there's more hatred for him leaving in the way he left. I think it's more of the way he left. That's what everybody's saying. But I felt like there was a lot of venom the day he left. Even before anybody knew. Yes, because of the way he did it. It's not about where he went. I really don't believe that. It's about the way he went about doing it. You're thinking, and he made them believe that he was going to stay forever 'cause he was supposed to do there. Well, I may leave. I mean, I think if he had been more honest and forthcoming and been like, and like I think Addison said, talked through the process, it would be different. That was whenever he was meeting with or I think that was whenever he was at 5, or he was McDonald's and by the end. I think it was he was meeting with somebody about his next job. The only thing I'll say is that shit happens everywhere. I have nothing you can do. You can try to keep it as wide as you want, but ultimately I think honestly, if I was him, I would have been saying from the moment I took that job, rob. It's my Alma mater. It's mama mater. It's mama. I would have said that I'm fucking thousand times..

"Homo podcast. I'm Jeff Goodman. Robbie you there? Where are you at? I'm outside my ear. I was going to do it for my hotel room, the podcast, but I figured you'd rather get some scene here. No, I like that. Mark. I mean, first of all, listen, I left two feet of fucking snow. I'm not going back. I'm not. I'm like, what is it? 70? 65? All right, what do you guys think? Jackson? Jackson and rich, we got robbed. We actually go. We're going to do the podcast from their tents. They're like, one, two, three, four, 5, 6, and they're about 89 in the ten. First of all, guys, tell me the rules. The rules for the tent. Because I know like duke, you have to have a certain amount of people that go ahead. What are the rules? So basically, the rules are one person based at the all times. And when you put your and you get a wristband. So we got the Saturday iris man. Nice. So there's Sunday Night wristbands and then there's gonna be tonight restraints. And so when we take up all our tents, probably around ten tomorrow morning we'll just look at our wristbands and we'll just get pretty good seats. So come on, you can tell me the truth. Mom and dad aren't listening. No, I went to my class this morning, so you're able to go to class. You are one of them. Yeah. So you can have so many replace you too. Come out and do it. You hear that rob? Hey, I'm proud of you guys. Have you guys named your tent city yet? Like duke is just chesky mill. Have you guys given the name to this? Raider Bill Robert. All right. He wants Mark adamsville. Mark Adams, I like that. That's a good name. Let's get into check out the tenure. All right. I'm excited here. I might stay here tonight. Forget the residents did, right? Yeah. Why do I need the rest of your kid? Look at this. Yeah, you guys have any room for me? If you want, dude, seriously, for sure. See, look, they liked me rob. They know, they know you were talking bad about Texas tech before the season. I have come around. All right, I'm gonna set this down and we're gonna try to do this 5 right here, rob. Tell me when we gotta set up okay. Okay. It's not a lot of firm. Hold on. Might be able to figure something out here. I think we got it. I think we got it wrong. Just bear with me. Trying to figure this out. You know, you know me and technology. Now you guys are in here. You doing it? Yeah, you're in. You're in. I just got to figure this thing out. And then we'll do it. All right, and we all in. Are we in the shot or no? Yeah. Well, now that film now. Trying to try to figure it out. It's not easy. It's not easy. We're in. All right, you guys are in. I want to ask the first question to the guys, all right? Get a little closer. A little closer. So we can hear you better. What is your guys opinion of Chris beard? Trader. He's a trader. I mean, a lot of people around here didn't know. It wasn't about him leaving. It was about how he left. And how he what do you mean? The last second in essentially tried to destroy the program, taking all the coaches within the stock recruitment. So I think that's where the majority of the animosity comes from. So there is the misnomer is just that he left Texas tech to go to Texas. It's not just that he did that. It's how the perception. Right. I know, I'm in again, that stuff's hard to prove, right? Like how many players he was trying. I heard this too. The new shot take all the players with him, all the coaches, everything like that. But ultimately, it comes down to still rob that he left Texas tech for Texas, right? See, I don't agree. I don't agree. I think and I'd like to hear your guys opinion is the bigger issue that he made you guys feel like, yo, he is one of us. Like, we are going to do this blue collar. We're going to beat teams like Texas. And I know Texas is your guy's rival, but isn't it because he made you guys feel like, yo, I'm in this for the long run. We went to the final four, or is it more than it is? Texas and that's your rival. I mean, it's just like with, you know, he was offered a lifetime deal to stay here. And you know a lot of quotes as he was home. He would go to water like a 2 a.m. in the morning, like he was. I agree, listen, I would still admit this and I think rob would too. He fit Texas tech better. But I still feel like and you guys aren't going to want to hear this. But I still feel like at Texas, you have the ability to recruit a higher level player on a consistent basis. He got McDonald's on Americans. He got good transfers. But like Kevin Durant isn't coming to Texas. I will say though, Jeff, they also have the ability to have 15 people at their next game. 100% there don't give a shit. Yes. I'm with you on that. They have no, I mean, these fans are Texas tech is an awesome environment. Rob, how many times you've been there? I'm probably Ben to love it 6 or 7 times. Were you guys there for the vanilla ice halftime concert? No, I was. They're too young. Okay. I was like, well, it's free COVID, so I guess that was three years ago now. You're both fresh. So they're both freshmen. So think about this. What they walk into this year and how exciting this seriously, I came all the way for this game. Like, it didn't matter, honestly, the rankings are irrelevant. Like, to me, this is about Chris beard walking into this arena and just seeing the reception that he gets. What's he gonna be like? Are you gonna profanities? Like, we got some preparedness. You hear that? You hear that right? Everything. Do you guys have the scouting report stuff? Like the sheet of all this, like is it like a needed camera up here? It's in our minds. This is the biggest game of the year. You could lose every other game, but you like this is the game you have to win. For sure. Like if you went one in 30, but you beat beard. You might be great. That's crazy. That is crazy. I would say like on the prospects and getting good recruits like Texas tech was built on three star reviews. Totally who worked hard in the gym and you know be expectations and rose up from the ashes literally. And so when he does that and of course, I credit him for that credit for building the program, but then he just left a UT but he left it in a better spot. I'll play devil's advocate a little bit here in he did leave it in a really good spot. I mean, when he came here after tubby left, it was okay. Now obviously everybody now is saying it was all Mark Adams. I think we can agree that it was probably a combination of them and some of the other here is probably charisma late in the next. One behind that movie. Get closer. You guys, I don't know if these suits can hear it all. So what did you say? I was basically just saying that Chris beard's charisma was able to geek out those recruits for us and those years, but Mark.
Is New Texas Longhorns Coach Chris Beard the Best Hire in 2021?
"It's been a pretty slow week in college basketball. Exactly zero icons have announced their retirement plans. No assistance have been named their schools coach in waiting. But i did talk to texas coach chris beard earlier in the week. So let's talk about that deadline. Let me start by asking you. This most seemed to believe that crispier will in the long term and perhaps in the short term as well but certainly in the long-term proved to be the best hire from two thousand and twenty one. Do you agree with that. I don't know if he'll have not not not explicitly so i think that he's got a really good shot at being very successful. I think his odds are probably the best. But i also think the nature of the job. He's taking the league. he's taking it in even kansas. Gets you know. Dial back here a more than a few notches for a few years. It's still going to be kansas bill. Self has an ideal contract situation going forward so he would not be my pick. He would not be most likely picked to do the best job at this school for the long term. I think he has to objectively be in like the top three of that conversation. Hell he might be your number one. That's part of why you spoke them to begin with but he would not be my pick to be the most successful at the school. Among the hires power conferences in this cycle. Then who would be. Okay i will go with craig smith because i think craig smith has the best chance at both having success and staying at that school. Not that chris. Beard won't like chris beers at texas for the next twenty years and won a national championship. Of course. I could foresee that happening but to me. Correct smith has been really good at south dakota utah state. Now he's going to go to utah. And i think this is a situation. I you know we're all just shooting darts here. But i think that is most likely spot for coach. Have long term success at that

"Then dockage annoys squared for basically will get fleeced and a couple of weeks a has a statement to make so then wars i do. An article came out where i was quoted. As saying i you know. I assume i'm not working for espn who cares. It was totally taken out of context. And i want to explain it. Good for another good friend but a friend of mine Slick leonard passed away. Click leonard and i'm going to get into him during his five cast because his story is unbelievable. Pacers player won a national championship without you broadcast in the basketball hall of fame when i was going through some stuff About a month ago on twitter. He sent me a note very sick lately but he. He sent me a note. Basically saying houthem. Don't worry about things you can't control caria and then some other things and i kind of use that and as i was talking about six death he died during my show and was really unprepared. I said look. I don't know what's going to happen with. Espn is not going. Have me but you know what. Screw it i got. I can't worry about things that are in. That was the context. And then i talked about The hassle with with these professors. And i said well as best thing that ever happened to me because my wife and i after that started going with a cup of coffee downstairs every day and reading the bible since then and i actually on my show. I showed the number of plans that we had done for the last thirty four days and like like things do in a city of a million people somehow. This became the biggest story. In the indy star in the usa. Today picked it up. And i got my espn shirt on south. I love working at espn. I love the relationships that i have. Whether it's you or taylor bonetti or day fleming or art fox or leave fitting. I love it and i was simply making the point and i must've done very poorly that i can't worry because it's a big. It's a big thing in my life whether i'll be back with the because i love it. I love being a basketball. Listen i love doing these things with you. And i must have said it poorly

"There were running or doing something outside. They started in like a hundred degree heat and then went inside practice and I believe they didn't have water or enough water kid passed out ended up going to be able to this is already about three or four hours in he went to the hospital actually but picture of him in the hospital bed and I called him and and he still defended Billy clawed his dad did and everything but other players went to push me off the Record and they were they were not happy with the way Billy Clyde was doing his proud. So anyway, so he he's in the hospital bill and brings him back again. So they're already four hours into a gym in the hospital brings him back one more time there at 6 hours brings her back a fourth time that day. Somebody told me they practiced a minimum of eight hours that day. There are no rules. I don't think in junior college so you can't do it. Yeah, I think you're right. I think it's a free fraud terms of I think back in some of the drills we used to do that are hilarious that we they would never do now like we did drill where coach paint. Which stand a free throw line and there'd be a line of guys kind of like lined up right behind him and there'd be two guys that have four on each side of the half-court lines and Coach painting would have a ball and the line of guys buy him would get a running start and he would flip the basketball to these guys and you're going on the floor. And as soon as they got to a certain point on the floor of the two guys at half court and now converge and it became a finished with the rent. You can't two guys. This had to be a gene Katie special you had two guys converging to the basket and the dude trying to lay it down in some of the I mean, it's like ACL tear sprained ankle like just quit and we would do that all the time. It was just a finished. Oh my God, you guys just like meeting at the edge of it and like you never had one dude. I'm not going to he was when I was in school. He was a big guy and he would dead. Because pain was flipping the ball and he wasn't like the fastest guy in the study was the softness or whatever. It was. I will not name names of who was really if you were off like when Chris Cramer do it half the time he'd beat those guys down. He just go hammer one, right but this dude was slow and big and literally the guys that were converging would beat him. So he'd end up a lot of the times having to like stop and take a look a fadeaway jumper. It was he'd be two people that would beat him to the spot and he would he would never never score in the drill. It was a bad girl though, and that would never fly to know what I wanted from Heaven shape of you and he's drills from nineteen eighty-six or whatever year was at there in 07 and I would love to me going up there and just turn one over and donkey and all my teammates so that probably only bloom maybe Elliot flaum. Getting the offseason and give us some some good tape of of you back in practice be like throwing a temper tantrum and like planning a ball in the stands or losing a trip. I took did..

"Would argue that 90 champions and that's a chance. Maybe you worry about that of the jump up on a plane now in competition for Houston because you know, like Rutgers was the best team they played I guess so far in Boston Rucker's you know, they Rutgers was missing laughs at home don't yeah, they imploded. Yeah, I do I do worry about that not so much about the American Conference, but just the road you got here because all of a sudden you're playing against a a heavyweight in Baylor. Yeah. It's it's not even close, you know, no disrespect Oregon State or any other teams, they play Rutgers, but the Baylor Bears, you know outside of time. He coming off their covered. So have been the second best team in college basketball this season for the majority of it. So yes, I do worry about that Forester. I'm still sticking with my Baylor Gonzaga final with Baylor beating the zags. I think you went with this is winning. Yes, and I hope that when this happens we can offer Scott Martin my high school teammate current assist and Notre Dame and just crushing unbelievable that he's talking shit in in the chat like this if Mike fraioli, New Jersey, oh coach Brey, he'd be disappointed in Scott. He expects more from him. The best thing is pray doesn't care. Like I can text you right now the comments and human language like was talking more trash to you guys coach praise the man he is he is he's great. Yeah, I mean listen think about that right you played for paint who had those three and half our product issues whatever illegal, you know, he'd go he go to long every single day and you know, God praise out here. It's like a country club for Scott Martin. It was a difference I think for Scott when he transferred to the third day in practice wise but coach painter. He definitely be especially my first my freshman year and a little bit my sophomore year. We did not we used all the allotted time. We were not all it all depends. What do you mean all legal? But we use all of the time allotted to us to practice. Give me the the worst practice the toughest practice you.

"Eras like hang out together. They come down. They play ball against each other in the off season. Like it's like no other program series another because it spans back further than all the other ones. Because you have the connection with dean and roy it just been so long for that same family matt doherty when when he came in. obviously so. I think it's going to stay in the family. If you're asking me if i'm a betting man who who they're going to hire i would put my money on. Huber davis my money on he reduce. I would hire west miller at thirty eight years old played at carolina as more energy than huber. A hubert's are great guy from everything i heard but a lot of people questioned that are that are close to him whether he's the right guy for the job where it's another kind of teen smith. Bill guttridge type deal in hubert's better assistant head coach. I think west. Miller is awesome job. He's done amid majoring stranded I don't know how much hubert is involved in recruiting to be honest over the last few years but like west is in the area. Yeah he hasn't recruited how major dudes but he knows all the guys that you probably need to know for the most part in that area a us. Is there anybody outside of the carolina. Could've chris holdman get a call or or is it just. I just don't think they'll do it. Yeah i just. Don't think again that if carolina involve accounting the only thing you say is bob accounting have their ideas carolina guy. So maybe but. I think he's going to get pushback if he tries to go outside the family. I think all those players will be pissed off. So i think i need to do is go in the family if you can't and if there's nobody there which again listen neither west miller or davis or jerry stackhouse my guy or Yeah or king. Rice or jared haas. None of like same thing to do by the way with this thing opens the duke. We're gonna have the same the same scenario like who do we go with. Is there a guy within the family. i just can't see a scenario where they don't keep it. I haven't seen his name and honestly this is bad. I'm not i assume based on the band is steve. robinson still insisted yes.

They come down they play ball against each other in the off-season. I think Wes Miller is the right guy for the job cuz he's done it a mid-life Friday. I don't know how much you were has been involved in recruiting to be honest over the last few years. But like West is in the area. Yeah, he hasn't recruited high-major do drugs, but he knows all the guys that you probably need to know for the most part in that area a u.s. Yeah, I just don't think again that if I'm Carolina in public accounting him now, the only thing you say is Bob accounting have their ID is not Carolina guy. So maybe but I think it's going to get pushed back if he tries to go outside the family. I think all those former players will be pissed off. So I think you know first thing you do is go off in the family if you can and if there's nobody there which again listen neither Wes Miller or Hubert Davis or Jerry Stackhouse my guy or.

I first year of doing this randomly. I got the old switcheroo That if off moved off of trae young in texas to a north carolina louisville but yeah Gava sad thing for me. He's been too stable. You know as a kid. He was a cazes carolina and man. It's i know we talked about this earlier. But there are a lotta guys did in the next probably five six seven years are are going to be hanging up and it's going to be really weird. Yeah there are yet onto it but what. We won't a second here. There aren't a ton of candidates in the family but I like where does where does where right for you. Among the elite coaches in college basketball is he. Top five is top ten. you know. Obviously you've got like the guys like wooden k. That'd be at a different level after that three national titles. He said to the best jobs in america and a lot of people hammer him for that route. A lot of people years were like he rolls the ball out you know. He's had the two best jobs in college basketball. I don't think he quite got his his his credit. Yeah i mean he's still going to get the players there and you still got a coach ma up. He had to work hard to get the kansas job. Dole that out to you and me. I yeah he he certainly has been in two places. But i don't know you know you mentioned. Would you mentioned coach k. It can't be that far behind. He's gotta be yeah. I think he's the next top six seven coach in college basketball. I mean he had a phenomenal career in. I don't think you can ever dina guy for for where he's add it. He had to get there first and he was carolina. He paid his dues that job as an assistant in a guy that the carolina family trusted. And yeah i i. I think he's got to be one of the top six or seven coaches that. We've had college basketball. Yeah he was always very fair to me even when you criticize him Extremely fair we had a couple of mishaps. All this honestly wasn't either one of our faults. i. I'm trying to remember all the specifics. But it was basically when all this stuff came out about the academic scandal. They're a bunch of carolina players that Sent a letter to me. I believe is. Pin bunch of players sent a letter to me. Email me a letter and roy for some reason. Didn't think.

He's gotta be the type of next year. Yeah. I think he's in the next he's top-six said coach in college basketball. There are a bunch of Carolina players that sent a letter to me I believe how far is it s p n or maybe it's CBS bought a bunch of players sent a letter to me emailed me a letter and Roy for some reason didn't think that I used the letter or something like that that I did not do what the players wanted me to do. And I I send along too. I think it was maybe the desk or whatnot and and then it was kind of out of my hands. So I remember it wouldn't let me into practice birth. There's never been a better time to give bettridge tried that rivers. Com today for download the better than the normal. It must be 21 years later. They're telling Robin call one eight hundred number maybe 20 minutes. It's not bad. I'm doing the I I did the elite eight games and then I'm doing the 3x for you stuff now and I think they just needed a hotel where they could fit everybody in cuz there's a lot of there's you know speaking teams of four kids. There's some staff and some announcers and they actually brought in the guys I play through and three went to teach the college. I had a play like the rules of stuff cuz there are some funky rules on it. So they're they're doing that over at the at a fitness club right now, and they'll play downtown by Lucas Oil thinking an old old hockey arena, so maybe if you're nice, Have you screwed anybody up yet with three and three like tips are you getting clinics? I'm a great mentor to the kids. And if you're nicely off you you Mentor in the same sentence man. I never thought I heard those words. I I mean I played long enough. You always joke that I played twenty-seven students who couldn't I meant or anybody you hear you could you could you could absolutely Mentor at some point. All right. Let's not we got plenty of news to talk about today. Rob plenty of news. It started with the retirement of one Roy Williams and a guy was one of the greatest in our sport. I mean no doubt about it. And you know, I'd heard the rumbling of especially over the last week route because you started to hear that a lot of guys were going to go pro from Carolina or we're going to transfer and Roy was getting frustrated and he might call it a career but dead. As recently as like 2 days ago, he's calling recruits. So I think he was still torn up until the last 48 hours. But ultimately from talking to people it was a combination of things. He's 70 years old. Number one. They're not going to have a chance to win a National Title next year. He's frustrated by the fact that he's never had kids transfer out of his program into the last couple of years. And now there's a bunch off and then you add in the name image likeness that's on the horizon and it just the landscape has completely changing in college basketball. I think Roy the first of multiple guys that are or anyway, whether it's okay bay Haim, maybe Leonard. I know he just an extension, but I think a lot of these guys are going to get frustrated with the changing landscape of college basketball..

"For you today we have four. Head Division One coaches to talk about college basketball in the potential restart, and they all have different views and they'll from different levels for the most part and that's why got him together and we've Texas Tex Chris Beard. Seton Hall's Kevin. Willard Pacific's Damon Stoudamire and UNC Geez West West Miller. Talking about the restart. And again, their thoughts of kind of what can be done, and I'll even give you my idea which is a little bit off the wall But certainly, this is something that ink A lot of coaches are trying to figure out what's going to happen Kevin Willard you had a great idea certainly, that has picked up some steam among the coaching ranks and that was to start in November thanksgiving break when all the regular students leave campus and start playing then. So tell me a little bit about it what it's like in some of the feedback that you've gotten. You Know Jeff I think that's where it's GonNa be really hard and confusing for everybody because. You're not going to bring a team on campus that doesn't have the same testing protocols same. Everything that you're doing and I think that's going to be by conference I don't think. Anyone's going to have a say in that I'd love to still play or non conference games I. Think it's important for everybody but I think that's really I think that's where it starts to get confusing because. One's GonNa let some someone come on campus loan through an airport that's that hasn't tested their kids in a week or every four. We're doing every four days during the season. So I think that's where each school is going to have to really make their own decision I. Think it's GonNa be President and I think it's going to be conferences and make that call. Beard. Your is have been working out all week. So of your Kevin. What what's it been like so far? What? Mass, obviously, some schools every school's different from what I hear some schools it's one player, one ball other schools. It's maybe groups of three with the ball and a rebounder and. How how how strange has been? The first of all whole mass still it's actually improved my relationship with some of my players 'cause they can't understand what I'm saying. But it's been really GonNa Frustrating New, coaching who is but. Basically what we're don't love love it because we're trying to create our own bubble in.

But tonight, the Texas Tech. They're also an under armor school going against Virginia who is eight Nike school as well. But when you look at their coaches tonight, Chris beard, and Tony Bennett, both guys are program builders, and if that's the route that UCLA wants to go, I think Rick Barnes is a good program builder. But at some point, right, George window. You get over the hump is it two years is it three years and will people have the patience if he doesn't deliver right away. We'll find out. "They have stepped on the floor this year, and they've got a chance to do it. Once again. Look at the coaches Tony Bennett handled the worst loss the worst loss in the best possible way ever they came into this year with the mantra of run to the roar. In other words, do not ignore what happened against you NBC. Go ahead and embrace it. And now he's seen plan for the national championship class act. Obviously, great coach. And then you've got my man Chris beard. All crispier does is win. He shows up. Any wins freaking every place. He has ever been on every level in places where it's not easy to win much less win big Little Rock, Texas Tech give this guy greaseboard and a chance to recruit, and he will give you a team that wins. Again, Texas Tech is in the national championship game in basketball. It's absurd. It's a joke. And they didn't their way they're either nothing fluky about this nothing cheap. Nothing. Lucky? Look at the last four coaches their beer beat Tom Izzo, Mark view, John beeline. Nate oats, one hall of Famer to future hall of famers. And the guy who just got hired at Alabama. Some of the weekend those games on Saturday night were they any good. I can answer that for you. This sure as hell were why don't we start with the second game and work backwards. Because the second game was vintage Chris beard, Texas, Tech, red raiders absolutely took to Michigan State, Tom Izzo said quote, we pride ourselves on being the toughest team tonight. We weren't and quote again, that's what Chris beard symbol do. They lock you up. Even when you know, it's coming even knew expect it they're still going to make it forty minutes of living hell, but don't get too focused on that defense seats me. This is where this is all getting lost in translation, it's a great defensive team. And then I mean great this year because they're are the best team in America defensively. I mean, great, historically, but when you get so carbon that defense, you don't give them credit for their offense. They can score the ball now. And they did exactly that when they had too late in the game against Michigan state. And then they put them away. Tech made it look like they had been there before even though they never been there before and they made it look a hell of a lot easier than it actually was in. Speaking of easy. There was nothing easy about Auburn Virginia. In fact, I was insane. Auburn Virginia was insane. Now, let me three things out of the way really quickly. Going back to Saturday number one. Yes, it was a foul. Yes. It was a foul. Yes. It was a double double and w dribble. I should say. And yes, it really really sucks for Auburn new run those three things by you again, really quickly. Yes. It was a foul. Yes. It was a double dribble, and yes that really really sucks for Auburn. But before we get to the final seconds go back a little bit earlier. "Fair point to make. And it's why he credits Chris beard. With doing such a good job, which I hadn't heard before. He believes Chris Beard's success is more related to his recruiting and his ability to find the type of players that fit then his ability to Xs and os, coach and motivate, and obviously all of it goes into the blender when you are attempting to win you need to be the Bruce Pearl motivator at times, you need to be the Tom Izzo tactician at times, you need to create an environment that is one in which the players want to perform for you at the highest level. And you need the mix right into the mix of players that complement each other and bring out the best in each other and a sense of pride and a sense of confidence that all these teams seem to have entered with which is why we've enjoyed the tournament so much we've gotten a lot of. Entertainment value out of the sweat out of the attitude out of the resilience out of the no quit out of the adrenaline that. These teams seem to have played with and coached with. Active sidelines active play even the officials for the mistakes, and the and the pluses the good calls in the bad calls, and we only notice the bad. Of course is all like, they're not trying out there. It's not like they're not trying. And. I think most experts agree that whether you like the call or not it was a foul. The only problem was is it a foul all game. Like, Bruce Pearl said. But it doesn't matter kid put himself in a position to be filed. And in that in that point of the game. You can't do that. You know, don't get don't put yourself in a position to be called you made. It look like you're reaching for the ball three quarters of the of the court down three quarters of the court away from the offense of basket of the of the offensive player. You're the defensive player you're reaching for the ball. You get called there. You get called their don't reach for the ball. His spot were. You're not the fending. You're trying to make a play. Then you're trying to make a play. Then you could get called. So if your if your goal is not the be call don't do things that are putting you in a position where guys gotta make a decision. And that is what happened last night. The Auburn kid force the official into a decision and for the Auburn kid. He made the wrong one for Kyle guy in Virginia. He made a perfect call. And then a kid makes all three I'm telling ya is is it's. What a thrilling three minutes. Down the end of that game. Really great. Really great. And it didn't matter what the names were in a who cares? If you don't know Kyle guy guy, by the way, did not attempt as I mentioned at the start of the show did not attempt to free throw until he made those three. So salute there as well. All right. Bottom of the hour. We need an update Darwin's Zuck. Sports play. We saw with the NBA the regular season.

"You'd put money on. Okay. So think about that. We'll have a big three and a little three. We'll have the first three and then four through six on the world rankings court should probably going to pick the top three guys on the world rankings for your big three. But you know, after that and after the last two weeks, I'm not sure I'm not sure if there's truly a big three, well, we'll talk about this about sure if there's really a big three then we will take calls. I want to hear other people's big three and we're gonna play some interactive trivia to question next next segment, but to numbers five one two eight three six zero five ninety before we get to the break. I want to get your thoughts on the Longhorn basketball game today. Ben and talked about it and a lot more. We're we're galette. They were gained. They led at halftime. But they still can't get it done in crunch time. And the longhorns it's not getting better because they have Kansas next Monday. Then they have Oklahoma Saturday than they've got national right tissue the following Wednesday. This is. Is a tough tough road to hell for shocker smart asset something jokingly to to cart bowls about is the big twelve the worst conference offensively in the country. Or is it the best conference defensively in the country? And I think the answer may be the first one. You know? I just think there's a lot of teams that can't hit shots. And I do have a problem with shock at coming out of timeouts. Other coaches seem to be able to have a play that works. I bet tech scored. And now they scored three baskets out of timeouts onset plays inbound place inbound plays, and I don't think Texas did. Yeah. And that's, you know, six points here. That's the difference in the game. How 'bout that crowd today too? I thought tech was very loud tech had a lot of a lot of support there. Yeah. And it really strange because you only usually here that when it's Kansas when Kansas comes or when the aggies user baggy fans, but I thought it was unbelievable today. How loud the Texas Tech folks were and quite frankly shame on you. You people who've got season tickets who sold prime seats to Texas Tech people because Texas Tech folks, they weren't all of the project like the Kansas, folks.
