"Play today right. Yeah obviously and that's arena. Because that's in a dome so what we got here. Reynaldo lopez against chris archer chris archer still pigeon even pitching what on what not the raise. He's he he. He's been out for a while like as he. I know he may be started. Says that vaguely sounds familiar. Now i knew he was on the team but i thought he was hurt or of the five days ago or two returns no place. I'd rather be raise. Expect to activate chris archer on sunday. He hasn't pitched since april tenths. He's got thrown in the fire versus the white sox. I'm watch that. I didn't know what to do to rain. The yankees are obviously postpone. No wants to share. That's here's a tbs. Chris archer on the raise scares me a little like he gets it back. He gets his powers back. I don't care how long he's been out or or how hurt he is. Alabama is now. Chris scare me. Is i start on. The year was against the marlins two innings four months And fifty two pitches on the race. Yeah and then. He faced us of course and went two innings. Four strikeouts no runs right after that that he was. I guess i guess he's. That's how they were easing him in. He started the first game against the marlins he came in relief. The second game against us you started so he was like an opener. Gotcha so i don't even know what he's got hurt in that game. I will say if your friday night there. The raise white sox game was insane And i it was on the it was on. I happen to be on the tv at the bar was that Of all places. And i mean he was just absolutely like extra innings known scoring the tenth inning And then anderson comes through the fucking anderson tied it in the ninth inning. And there's the lead for them and the eleven seven It's funny you go from like wanting to white sox die when you play them and then they're your best friend best friends now. I look at it to the yankees in white sox at the exact same record. Now that's larry's are out are very close to having the best in the american league. Yeah they could if they win the division they might have home field. I think they almost certainly would the right about tied with houston ish right. That's crazy dude. That's crazy insane. Insane i also you suck me is how good the brewers have been this year like just flat dominating people yeah i kind of a recent ish right that they've been twenty six over. No i know. But like i don't remember them being this good all year. Would yell at grand slam us night there. The how the mets do this week this weekend. Anyone really good there Two grams back a blend lindores back there flying one five street or something they must. They're cooking great. So they're they're probably what like three or four over five hundred at definitely over five hundred definitely not sixty and sixty three and on a nother losing streak. There's no way they're the best team in baseball. Is we have next right. They're probably not gadget. They were on the west coast for too long. They're headed back. They have got to be playing. Like the marlins or nationals or something. The braves are eleven over whether that half g. o. They one eight hundred eight breaking up fire. Oh come the slaves yankees dodgers right now. The hottest teams in baseball. Yeah i And the and the rate the reason playing just good in general. I think the racist are never not playing. Well raise but the brick. Yes so that's fun. That's a fun series in atlanta coming up. Here little to gamer lewis. He'll gets along well. Here's a crazy thing so We were begging. We said six woods this week six. Let's let's win. The angels game win the series risk. The red sox two three three four against the twins. They just one seven and they would have won eight if they played today. That's credit such an unbelievable week for them. Geez you know they. They just don't like they're playing inky stadium how they should play right outward dominating teams this is a bit like i guess you want. The goal is to win for this week. This is gonna be a tougher week. It's going to be incredibly tough. I think you may be would take. Beings are playing well enough going seven. Oh this week as opposed to five in two or even six in one afford you to where. It's a three and three week. Fm horrible air on the road against two very good playoff teams like splitting his acceptable. To me it's like how do the yankees look this week like. They've looked so good at home. How are they gonna look on the road against playoff-caliber against destroyed a playoff. Yeah i'm perfectly sign me up for split. I'm okay with split it. oh it'd be nice ideal world. i'd love to split against atlanta and take three out of four against oakland. Just put a little distance between them but knowing how poorly dinky seemed always playing. Oakland split would be more than five yeah. I'm with that. But i will say. There's a lot of newer yankees on the team. Like like gallo rizzo's. They're not part of the yankees not playing well in in oakland but as the yankees twins thing or it doesn't matter. Maybe here's the pitching matchup so we've got. This is the oakland haney against capri lillian on thursday. I love the haney. Pitched grading the red sox. I really wish we could pitch anyone else..

"And Superman and Deliverance. He was 83 years old. Um, and all honesty. If you were to ask me Friday how old Ned Beatty was to put him in his nineties, probably But he passed away yesterday. Here in in Los Angeles. Sports Wise Angels have won six in a row. Don't look now. But yesterday's 10 3 win over Arizona there in Oakland Tonight, Dodgers beat the Rangers. They'll host the Phillies, of course. Um Dodgers met up with the Houston Astros in 2017 in the World Series, and there were a lot of weird things going on. For example, in Game three. Yu Darvish for the Dodgers, who had been pitching pretty well only went one and two thirds innings in that start, even after knowing that about you, Darvish and knowing that he fell prey to the Astros, and they're cheating. I'm still upset with that performance. Still upset with that. Well, there's there's an interesting argument that's going on. First of all. We know the Houston Astros cheated enough people in the organization admitted that they were cheating and by cheating. It's okay for you to as a player steal signs. It's not, um I should say it's not illegal. It's frowned upon, but it's not illegal. If you're a runner at second base, you can see the catcher giving signs to the picture. Somehow you do something. You tweak your hat. You itch your nose. You pick you poke your belt, whatever to give the battery, an idea of what pitch is coming. But again, you have to be able to figure out what the catcher's signals mean in the first place and then be able to relate it to the batter. That's legal, just frowned upon. What's not legal is using any sort of electronics. Camera dedicated to the catcher's crotch. Something like that. There's you cannot use electronics to transmit the signal anywhere or to anyone, and the allegation was that was again proven to be true. That there was a camera in center field watching the opposing catcher's. There was a monitor behind a wall in the dugout in Houston, and then as soon as they would see, for example, Uh, The catcher put down a three for a change up or whatever they bang, either the garbage can or the bat box. One time. Not only were they cheating and knowingly doing so and actively doing so it wasn't just one guy or the pitching coach or what have you They were running interference. Here's an example on August 1st of 2017. Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Archer won a game at Minute Maid Park but suspected that on at least a few occasions, the Astros had his his pitches later that night. He's back in his hotel room when one of the Astros player face times him and he said, Dude, you've got good s You were just tipping like he was tipping his pitches and was like I was not tipping my pitches. But that player was running interference with that FaceTime call right trying to throw a red herring at the situation, If if people were starting to to think about the Astros and what they're putting together, and suspicions around the league were growing, and the noise was getting so loud that the players actually started running interference. And then continued to cheat. There were problems in that towards the end of that season of the 2017 season. The Astros we're going to do well, they're going to make it into the post season. The Dodgers come up there doing great in the National League. They're going to make it into the post season, according to the Astros. They stopped using this system. Once they got into the postseason. Because, among other things, they said, the signals that the catchers were giving were too complicated. You add a layer to them so that this thing doesn't happen. And you could argue, um Well, they argue that they gave up on it when they got into the postseason. How? Why would they be above cheating in the postseason? When the very reason that they got there was cheating, right? It doesn't make sense. Carlos Correa is one of the Houston Astros players who, when this all came out, he was He was a giant a whole to every reporter that would ask him questions about this. In an interview with Ken Rosenthal, longtime baseball writer He said that there's no way the Astros benefited from cheating during that postseason. He said that the scoring plays in the game specifically the Game three I reference, with Yu Darvish having the shortest start of his career. Carlos Correa said it wasn't result of. You know these guys jumping all over 82 mile an hour changeup or something like that. It was just weaker hits. It was poor fielding. The problem is It wasn't always that hit that made a sign the sign stealing, stealing effective. Maybe it's just they're laying off. A pitch that they know is going to be thrown for a ball that gets them deeper into account puts more pressure on the pitcher. Maybe it goes to three and one. That picture has to throw a strike. Basically at that point Specific data on if there was trashcan banging during the LCS and World Series doesn't exist. But the reason is crowd noise. Yeah, it's too loud. You just can't. Uh, you can't figure out if that was going on. There is a guy who put together a website that was reviewing video of the season and counting the number of garbage can bangs in each game. He went through and did that a sign stealing scandal dot com is where he did it. But he said, to your point, the crowd noise in the playoffs and the World Series was just too loud. That when you start it's different networks. Usually to that that will handle the playoff rounds, and they will pipe in the crowd noise to make it much more exciting. It sucks for Astros players to who do not get to have the full feeling of winning the World Series. Knowing that you cheated your way into it, knowing your she did your way through that season. How does that give you Joy, Joy, you know, it would be the opposite. In fact. And and, and it's hard to quantify what kind of resulting and lingering effects has had for other pictures and player's pitchers, Players clubs. There are teams that lost their managers There were, you know, pitchers who never came back after, you know a couple of bad outings against the against the Astros. All right, coming up next China a global security challenge, and everybody agrees. We'll talk about why, When we return, Gary and Shannon will continue a swamp Watch after Amy King.

"Allow with us right now is is EMMA LB Major League baseball analyst insider extraordinaire the great one himself the one and only Kirk Chin who will be in attendance for tonight's Oakland a's Tampa Bay rays one game divisional playoff game. What's going on man? How are you how's everything I'm great Stephen? Even a I'm at a playoff game. It's a winner. Take all situation on October the second this is pretty good stuff. You really really liked this one game stuff don't you. You really liked him. Well what I think it does Stephen Obviously it brings a game seven half. Let's fear to the beginning of October that that game last night was a really good game but it was even better because the poor brewers had to go home after losing and granted. It's really unfair that one of these teams tonight both worked on ninety five or more games going to have to go home after one but it does bring increased integrity to the regular killer season. It makes those hundred sixty two games so important so you don't have to play in this game but the fact that the loser goes home home makes it. It has a level even high. I gotTA admit him. I'm very shocked by that position that you take because you are one of the most fair minded people I've ever known on and to go to a hundred and sixty two game season and it to come down told one game. It's it almost seems grew. It really does well. It is cruel stephen a but this is a cool sport and I was not in favor of this but here is the option if we were gonNA play a best best of three. Let's say and you are the New York Yankees. Let's say you want your division and you get to host the next round and we have ties leading into the wild card situation and then you play best of three it's possible the Yankees can win a hundred and ten game name say in a season and then take eight days off before they play a playoff game. That isn't fair you need to you need to really welcome the teams teams that won their division and put them in the best possible spot but if you make them wait a week before they get to play. I don't think that's fair. Wow Turkey right here with steven a radio. ESPN news fair enough. That game was something special last night at least the last couple of innings of soda to to to to Gino's keynote hit it to right field identify Grisham to commit that era. I gotTa tell you it was great to see how electric atmosphere was. How much did baseball Paul need particularly when we have just heard reports come down to how attendance drop but so like a six year low or something like that right well baseball can use all the health can get right now? It's still for me at least the greatest game and yet things are starting to slip a little bit and big game like that starting out like that in a city. That's like the biggest game the nationals of one well biggest game. A team in Washington is one baseball nineteen thirty three for goodness sake. That's what made it so good. That's why that celebration was so good and I'll crom tonight. Stephen Ain't no matter what happens this is gonna be a great night for baseball 'cause weighty. Did you see the Oakland Coliseum tonight with fifty thousand people in your they don't have the most fans in the world but the fans they have our rate and they are loud and it should be a tremendous atmosphere so this is a great jump start to the postseason in baseball last night in Washington and no matter what happens tonight tonight tonight in Oakland who you have when you look at tonight's game just evaluate this this match up to me between the as and Tampa Bay talk to me about you know who's looking good in mismatch in what well I like both teams. I'm GONNA pick I like it matters. I'M GONNA pick the as because they're at home. I'M GONNA pick the as Ashok MNAYA WHO's four no with a one twenty-one year as it's coming off the list has been great. Their bullpen is pretty darn good and they can just ask Mash Stephen a more than any team in the history of the Oakland A.'s in the franchise so they can really pounded but they're going up against Charlie Morton who was one of the best pitchers in the game this year. I saw his last start against your Yankees Steven A. and he he threw six scoreless. Let's see was completely dominant and if you throws like that he's GonNa win tonight. That's how good he was so this is a toss up game. I'll just take the as 'cause they gotta pick. Somebody and I'll take 'cause they're at home. You brought up my Yankee so let's get right to it because you know that's what I really really care about. Tim Kirk Okay. I'm very concerned earn. I am not concerned about the Minnesota twins even donate three hundred and seven home runs this year. I just think they're allergic to prosperity whenever their face against the New York Yankees the Houston Houston Astros are an entirely different matter with Verlaine with Cole Whitt Cranky. I don't see anybody beating. These guys. Talk to me about my yankees prospects. The this postseason Tim Kirk well first off. Do not look pass the twins. Even though I'm with you I believe will win. This series do not look past the team that can swing it like that. Team can second I think the Astros are the best team not just in the American league but in both leagues and I'm not sure how any team to navigate through those friends for you guys in the rotation especially coal and Burland at the top and I'm also going to tell you it's even a there or is hope that the Yankees can win the world series that make you really happy a bunch of things have to happen of course after mash like they always do the bullpen has to be great great like it always has been but Luis Severino comes back and give them five dominant innings. Can we've seen him do and if James Paxton this good he's one ten starts in a row. If Tanaka can give them one really good start or a few really good starts I think they are good enough to win the world series with the team that they have now but I still have them as the third best team in baseball go in behind the Astros and the dodge transitioned to the Los Los Angeles dodgers. They've got to face these Washington nationals in the LDS. How do you see that matchup handicap that for me well? I liked the dodgers in that matchup with the understanding understanding that if Max Scherzer can return to being the great Max Scherzer which he has not been since he came off the injured list is not he wasn't that guy last night. He wasn't that Guy September. If he returns to the best he's ever been with him. In Strasbourg Patrick Corbin they can give the dodgers a really really hard time with with that starting rotation and that lineup is very potent these days. I just think the dodgers are more complete team. They hit the ball out of the Ballpark ballpark with anybody. Three stars in the rotation are really good. My key question with 'em is is their back end to the bullpen as good as it needs to be Kenley Kenley Jansen get the people out. He needs to get out if he can't. They're not going to win the world series. How wants faiths the dodgers fans having jetson? I know I don't have much. I like the guy personally early but I I I don't. I don't trust him. I don't trust them a big spots. I think he can be hit. Talk to me about him. For a second yeah his is down his cuddled. It doesn't have the same movement to better tad in the past and that gives fans of pause. They do have some other health back there there but I really thought they'd go get more help at the trade deadline and they didn't so they're gonNA hope starting pitching and power is going to carry them and they're hoping pinged Kenley Jansen his best but I seen him much much better than he's been this year. What should we make about the fact that you've got high payrolls dodgers Yankees you know old? I don't know the order in which is the highest payroll. You would know that at this particular juncture but I must ask you Tampa Bay is in the postseason obviously lowest payroll in major league baseball well. I do believe I know that I mean how do you explain the fact that teams like the as in the Tampa Bay rays notoriously alot payrolls manage to get this fall and sometimes further dentist with the highest payrolls talked about that for a quick second as a protest. Why baseball is so great even a is that Lebron doesn't touch it on every possession? Kevin Durant doesn't touch it on every possession it is so much more of a eighteen game in its own way because you could lose a superstar and still be really good you have to draft and develop properly like the as and the rays done you have to play the game in a better manner because you can't afford to make a mistake because you know either in free agency or trade because it could set that you back with a raise did they. They got Austin Meadows and tyler glass now in a deal for Chris Archer Saint the whole team now they've ninety games two years in a row they they are really good but they're really 'cause they play the game even a defense base running better than most teams do instead of just sitting back saying well. We're GONNA hit a three run at home this morning so we don't have to do all the other things so. Let's get all of this out of the way right. Now Tim Cook while you're here with me. Yankees twins you. Have you have one in that series. I've got the Yankees over the twin yes with the warning. I say it again. Don't underestimate a team that hit over three hundred homers with the as as you picked as over the race tonight which means there as will go up against Houston obviously you pick in Houston to win that series assuming it comes down to that and the LDS correct yeah yeah but no cakewalk they're not against the as but I have the astros advancing against the how formidable on the Atlanta braves not mean I mean I mean at least in these parts. We talked enough about them. How good is this Atlanta braves team well? If Ronald Kunia junior and Freddy Freeman are completely healthy and they they want to finish the season they are the biggest threat to the dodgers in the National League for me. They're lying is absolutely relentless and with some of the pitching moves they made young and Old Dallas Cycle and the upgrades in their bullpen. I like that team. I don't like it as much as I like the dodgers but they can beat the dodgers with the team. They have right now so the nationals brightest moment was last night because you don't see them beating the dodgers correct I don't because they're going to start on the road. They've already use sure they're they've already Strasbourg people. They can get them back in time. I just don't think they held it too. I was worried shows a look tied at the floor four. Oh five in his last night I mean fifteen and won his last pitch and fit then it was I think it was at seventy seven pitches and he looked absolutely gassed. What does that about yeah? He's he's he's been hurt for portions of the year and he's had a little trouble getting that rhythm back in September and now in October and he is so max effort for on every single pitch when everything isn't working properly even he can get in trouble because almost nobody's better than him.

"Okay Tanner Roark, on the mound for your Cincinnati raise, as he and the reds, try to make it to a row over the Washington nationals, by the way, Roark, four and three on the twenty nine thousand nine season. He has not faced the Washington nationals so far this year, his last outing was on may the twenty six so let's see that would have been last Sunday at Chicago. And he gets the win. Yeah. Started the game. Pitch. Well, five innings six hits. No earned runs. No runs at all allowed and Tanner Roark. Threw the ball very very well in that game. Let's see if he can parlay that into a win this afternoon over the Washington nationals, by the way tonight starting pitcher is brought to you by western and southern financial group helping to make Cincinnati, the best place to live work and enjoy life. Well it happened again this week. It seems like it always happens when the pirates and the reds, get together. Somebody got hit by a pitch. And that's so body was a u halio Suarez. Thank goodness. There was nothing serious in terms of injury that came of it. But again, we see this far too frequently we saw earlier this year with Chris Archer the pirates and Derek, Dietrich after Dietrich stare at a home run ball, longer than Archer wanted him to, and then Dietrich did it again. This week at three and one game. Why not? Not. But apparently that doesn't set well with pitchers, and so back then Archer decided he was going to take target practice against Derek Dietrich. It seems to be a very Neanderthal way to deal with this. Ongoing problem of quote unquote, showing the other guy up. Backward at all festered when Archer and Dietrich had their desktop early. In April I had on with me on my radio show. A guy by the name of Jason turbo. He had a book that came out a while back called the baseball codes and part of the baseball coach was what to do after you hit a home run your, your demeanor at home plate and what the pitcher should do if he doesn't like your demeanor, these codes, exist inside the game of baseball and their police by the players inside of baseball, and it just seems all just all on sensical to me. Anyway, turbo was on my show back in April, and I thought it would be a good time to revisit that interview and what he says in the book and how major league players think about things like this. So we welcome in once again, the author of the baseball codes, Jason turbo. Jason, thanks for joining us. I'm great campaign for having me on. I just I just wonder now in this day and age of, of educa-. Ball players. Many of whom go to college heavy money invested in all of these players. Why does still goes on? I, I really don't understand it, man. We're in a gray area right now. You talk about this not happening in one thousand nine hundred eighty three wouldn't happen in two thousand thirteen five years ago. The game has really taken a precipitous turn toward you. You're letting the kids play. It's major league baseball own flogging. So when a pitcher takes issue with that you can't help it scratch your head at what's going on his head. I mean, nothing makes sense anymore in this world it didn't then. But I'm just wondering it was a lot of these guys back in the fifties and the six well into the twenty first century. They didn't. They didn't go to college. They weren't refined. They were high school kids, some of them went year for college. Some of them didn't. Now you've got kids that are traveling together. There you ballplayers bonding is a team. You have you have players that go to college. And they understand what life is all about outside the ball field. I'm just I'm just wondering if one of the reasons why this is those is still the way it is. I'm just wondering one of the reasons why is because nobody wants to be the first player or the first organization to say, we're just we're not doing that. That's not us. We're not going to do it. And if there's an incident that occurs on the field, then we'll deal with it as a team later and I'll deal with it as an owner with the owner of the other team. I don't understand. Why can't be done that way? Absolutely. It can. And it occasionally is. But. I on any given ball field on any given team. You're gonna have a hot head and no matter how much organizational control is exerted to that end. You're gonna have some guys take things into their own hands and look, no further than situation that guy is as respected anybody in baseball. He went out to make an argument considerate legitimate or not. I mean over the warnings, right? He wanted to have his team at its own chance to respond. Okay. What was he going to do with that? But argue there was no fighting going on until vaulted deduct out rail and and really brought both teams onto the field. So institutionally everything was under control until until you got involved and the little picture points to a much bigger picture. We get the guy who you know, in my mind initiated this whole movement. He was a guy who brought to the forefront and good on him for it. I mean that's fine. But when, when everyone suddenly taking policing into their own hands to this degree that where the institutional authority falls apart. And we ended up brawling in the middle of a baseball diamond on page one hundred of the baseball coach your book. It said that a profound majority of baseball policing emanates from the pitcher's mound and covers numerous code violations show of disrespect like stealing a base while holding lead or of showboating. So she's watching a home run, or pumping fish after beating at infield single. And then he want to say things that happened in the nineteen eighty six so it seems like that the that the place to start. If you wanted to start policing, this would be with the pitchers would it not? Well, yeah, the picture while the pictures of the ones enforcing it, right. And rear even even back in the eighties. It was rare for a manager to issue direct orders to pitcher to drill. A guy they usually new to do it on their own or they would talk to teammates. Archer. I don't think we've under any orders. There was some talk with thing after the game that survey was was saying that a pitch with coming their way, right? There may have been telegraphing, maybe he had gotten together with Archer who knows, but almost certainly didn't come from the pirates brass. When you've got a guy like that throwing balls at your teammates, you're going to get upset on the other hand Archer didn't really do anything behind the guy. It didn't look like he intended to hit him as gentle, a warning, as you can you can offer. Yeah. What are the things that I mean, there's great human cry. I mean, they're various columns around the country today in BC sports said that the baseball has got to come down hard on Chris Archer nipping in the bud. Here's, here's something I found interesting. And maybe you do to Jason if you look around the thirty major league baseball teams right now. There are no captains no team has a captain this year in major league baseball. And I'm I'm wondering if they talk about baseball players policing themselves, and this is how we take care of this. And this instance, I just wonder if, if there's if there's no locker room leadership is no clubhouse leadership with a defacto captain on any of the thirty major league baseball teams that it seems like it's left up to the twenty. I five odd players on each team to, you know, make up their own rules on that. I just wonder how how much captain Louis baseball in two thousand nineteen plays into this at the great point. You know, you can think about the great captains of yesteryear, and how much tone they set in their respective clubhouses from guaranteed, or New York to Bando on the great swing. As teams as went day. So went their teams. And you know one of the comments in the aftermath was was from pirates really fleet. Vasquez, Venezuelan guy who actually took offense that, that someone broke the unwritten rules, which I found interesting, because, you know, Latin American players tend toward the celebrate Tori as opposed to the opposite direction. And one of the things basket said was, Joey Votto, does something like that. He can get away with it. But each is haven't earned that right. Marcation right which, which which is right in line with the unwritten rules history guys on the right to do certain things. And, and so to some degree, that they're, Joey Votto is clearly team leader. He clearly had nothing to do with this. But, but yeah, man. Without those captains I, I think I think he make a great point there. There is a vacuum at the top of the food chain. We're chatting with Jason turbo. He is the author of the baseball codes being ball-stealing sides and brench bench clearing brawls. That's that book has been out. What about five six years now, Jason taking on twenty twenty two? So much. Continued to blog about it at the baseball coach dot com. You know, your current book is just fantastic. You were kind enough to send you a copy of dynamic bombastic, fantastic. "Wrap up this edition of brewer's extra innings after an eleven five win for the crew. Let's do today's who's hot who's not presented by DNA heating and air conditioning. Hot lot of guys in the brewers lineup today. You want to talk about the big games, Ben Gammel. Three for six two runs, Lorenzo Cain. Three for six run, four RBI's. Mike, new stock is four for six two runs, four RBI's to home runs. Yes. Monte grande. All four four six a run in an RBI. You got four batters today who have three hits or more, pretty easy to go with, who's hot actually. It's not so easy because I had to go with multiple guys. But you get the idea who's not Joe must grow when he faces off against the brewers. It just does not go. Well for him coming into this game in two previous career starts against the brewers. Must grove had a six point nine four. ERA what happens today that ERA actually goes up and that's tough to do. He gives up. Five runs on eleven hits in six innings so not good for him. Who's not who's not. It is presented by DM heating and air conditioning. Take advantage of carrier, cool cash now through the end of June carrier and at your service, visit DM heating dot com. You'll Lisa Shaw seen. We'll get the start for the brewers tomorrow. The right hander comes in with a three and six record and a four point eight eight ERA. Chris Archer will go four Pittsburgh, the right. He is one in five of the five point seven, five Yara. He has not pitched very well. This season is dealt with some injuries but just has not been very good. Once again, six five first pitch. Coverage at five thirty talk you after the game here on WTMJ..

"You had the whole rain delay situation. Sent sent della. Then so tell there you go my bad. Yeah. He's pitching. All right. This year. Not too shabby. But I still think I like the Braves coming home there about a buck sixty the only thing is I don't know how much faith I have in them in the run line. Once again, I honestly would maybe lean toward the under in this one. The Braves have been decent with the over this year. But I think the Rockies are one of the top five teams and unders especially on the road. They can't hit that. Well, and the only thing that I find very interesting in this. And this is the only reason why would possibly lean towards Colorado is because at Lanta played intensity tonight. They have to fly back home because of the rain delay. It's going to be very late. Arrival back home Colorado's been sitting Atlantic. They had today off. So I think it makes it a little easier for Colorado being rested and ready to go. I guess Atlanta versus the Braves to fly over through the night. In a vacuum. The Braves in this spot, but with the surrounding plotlines Colorado, and the thing is the Rockies Braves just been such inconsistent teams to bet on I feel like this whole season so far because Iraqi started off so slow, and they started picking it up a little bit these past few weeks or guest this past week the Braves have been sluggish a little bit. So I think I don't know why. But I'm just like in this under again, good pitching matchup here, max, freed the one point three eight and then three point five five percents tell us so I'm like the under nine speaking of of tough to bet on because they're all over the place reds and cardinals tomorrow, eighty skull funny. Mike, Michael nNcholas one forty five is the line now open at one fifty five cards down to one miles one forty five. I'm a little surprised that it's only at a buck forty for the car has not pitched he got the contract extension this year and has not pitched as well as he pitched last year. Yeah. I mean, that's true. But he's still just racking up the dubs every time. He's been going on the mound mean two and one on paper. But every game he's pitch. The cardinals have gone four and one. So I think I liked I know I like the cardinals in this situation with the Red's coming off a big win over the Braves in going on the road. So yeah, gimme the cardinals in this one in probably I would lean toward the over in this one. But I'm more focused on the cardinals fair enough next game hottest team in baseball. Arizona Diamondbacks hosting the Chicago Cubs. Tomorrow's Kyle Hendricks. Robbie ray. Ronnie, rain and Dynamex slight favorite minus one seven over under of nine. Okay. So Hendrix heads face Diamondbacks. I was actually the last team. He went up against and they won five one only gave up three hits. No runs in seven innings pitch. Robbie ran the other hand pitch against the cubs. He went six innings four hits one run given up. They lost one to two years. The thing Kyle Hendricks can be an ace one day in absolately an joke. The next day. So I honestly don't I mean if you wanna bet at first innings score. I'd probably say, yes. Because Kyle Hendricks last year. I think I don't know what the numbers off time. I don't want to guess a definitely over fifty percent the games he pitched she gave up a run in the first inning. Did it a few times this season already? So I would look to do that for sure and I love Cubbies dire fan. Absolutely. I'm going to stay away from this game because the Diamondbacks are very hot right now. And I don't trust Kyle Hendricks on the road. So I'd probably lean the Diamondbacks kills me to say. But that's where I would go. I'm going to stay away from his game completely because Ravi raising a couple years ago. I absolutely loved last year. I thought he took a step back. He has taken that step forward again. And you're right about Kyle Hendricks from this game. If I had to lean one way gun to my head. I would go era zone on just because they've been so hot of late, although the Cubbies just two out of three from the dodgers. Right. So I'd probably lean the over because both these teams not counting. The cubs today have been hitting the overs. That's not a bad way to go not today too. But they've been very hot team within the over the next game and final one speaking of the dodgers because we just mentioned the pirates who were red hot until Dimac came into town four now on the road to L A dodgers, Chris Archer hundred review Richhill will be coming off the this weekend to start again for the dodgers not. That means anything in this game reopened up minus one eighty down to one seventy one over under seven and a half. So reuse won both games at home and Chris Archer on the other hand on the road against Washington loss. Two three four hits in seven innings one earned run. I think the dodgers on the run line in this one. You not gonna take a minus one seventy the pirates have been struggling as we just saw. They got swept by the Diamondbacks and four games and the dodgers coming up win with the cubs. It'll be a long travel. I mean it'll be travel day for bowl teens, but I think the dodgers will get their offense back being at home behind us run line for the dog. The good news. The dodgers Chris Archer is not a lefty because he faced three lefties against the Cubbies. Yeah. Ham, three lefties. They struggled against the cubs obviously game. They won may only one to two wine and they lost the other two so right? And speaking of the dodgers, I'm saying it now, I mean, it's nothing crazy out there. But Cody bellinger's winning L MVP. Three to one odds at west gate, and that's that's still her. Maybe it was it was a little over three. I know yellow three to one I know, but yell is not been hitting on the road. So I think Bellenger at this point the NBA boundaries to prove because he was pissed off last year. Dave Roberts kept pulling out especially in the postseason. He said I got something to prove. And he is definitely proving it so I'll have to Cody Bellinger in the year. He's having I like that call by you hit the American League now. And when I called the game of the of the day tomorrow, Oakland Antonio, Mike fires Marcus Stroman, Stroman is at minus one twenty four hundred eight and a half the big story in this game flat. Amir Guerrero junior making his major league debut. I'm telling you he's going yard tomorrow. That would be insane. I mean that that seems to happen anytime a big prospect comes up that happened with Wilson Cottrell than the cubs. He Homer dissenter. It just happens a lot. So first of all with Guerrero coming up, how do you not immediately want to take the Blue Jays because of that Mojo right there? And also Stroman he's a solid. Pitcher Tziaras one point seven six low every time. He's pitched the Blue Jays. They are one and four unfortunately, lack of runs for sure he has gone against Oakland. They won five one eight innings pitched six hits one run. He gave up and then fires against Toronto. They lost one at ten three point one innings pitched nine hit six early. Fires. His not look good this year. Yeah. So with Toronto at minus one twenty five I'm hopping all over that. I'm with you. And I may even look at the Toronto in the run line because I may. Huge bonus at that point. But I'm definitely taking Toronto in this game. Tampa Boston, Charlie Morton. Boston's right now I have is undecided. So they had a line on the game. Which makes no sense to me minus one forty five even though undecided. His pitching Boston. So I'm not gonna mention that game. Because I can't talk about a game. They don't know their pitcher. Baltimore on the road in Minnesota, Alex Cobb Martine Peres, president twins minus two hundred tomorrow who've take the chance on the Orioles again Cobb is one of those guys who knows how to pitch in Tampa was very good there. When you get that kind of money is it worth it. Take the risk and take the chance on on Baltimore pitch against Minnesota. This year. Two point two innings pitched ten heads nine earned runs. But is he gonna do at the same thing again in Minnesota not in Baltimore? And you're not going against barrios. You're going into our team. Yeah. I I'm not gonna put my money anywhere near the Orioles. I know they've had some magic seven six on the road against the twins five and four at home. But I think the twins are just looking real good right now, especially with this pitching matchup. I can't touch the twins at minus two hundred. No, you can't. So I mean, if you're gonna take anything, obviously, you're taking the run line. I like the over in this game to over nine. There you go. Okay. Fair enough next game. And this is the one I've been waiting to ask you about because I'm going to bet he exact opposite of whatever you saying this game Tigers in the White Sox Daniel 'cause Don Don been bet down from minus one forty four where he opened a minus one thirty. So north is gone up against the White Sox. They won four two three five innings pitched to heads. No earned runs protons been White Sox as so I don't know. I mean, I the White Sox. That's pretty. Came on the air. You said whatever I say, they lose whatever's. I bet against him. They win that happened. That was the Indians White Sox game. It looks like they did should dominate that game. I believe it was kluber pitching for the Indians. The White Sox destroyed them. I think you nail that. I am going to go with the White Sox in this game. I'm sorry. Everybody take every penny. You have bedded on the Tigers. Literally think about like one in fifteen one Twenty-one it's wagering with or against the White Sox. But they look in a good position here. Buck thirty favored, Don, they beat the Tigers earlier, I'm going to take the Tigers on the reverse run. Money by them fading. My picks go for it. But yeah, the White Sox are gonna win this game. We'll see. Okay. So you're the White Sox. I actually like the White Sox in this spot to I I liked the way road on pitches. He's been he's been the one guy you can count on through every start looking at you leaders heads and good thirds and bad starts Rodrigo Lopez. I'm not so sure Daniel Norris was never quite pay to pitch. Everyone expected him to be. So he was he was a Blue Jays price prospect actually came to Detroit in the David price dealer. Price of the tire to the Jays. I almost want to actually put money on the White Sox. But I know I'm gonna lose because it is a really good possession. It absolutely next game. Indians Astros playing game two of their four games. At Astros lost today to one Corey kluber going tomorrow against Colin Mckee. You don't often see kluber a dog, but he is tomorrow McCue, minus one thirty three. Yeah. This is an interesting game. I wanna get your take on this one. I actually. Wow. The Indians had lost today. I would take the Indians tomorrow. But I don't see the Astros losing twice in row. Two. Indian team struggles offensively kluber is again like sherzer has not been himself. I'll go with Mckee demise. One three three the Astros at home. Yeah. I'm gonna agree. The thing that I'm more interested in though is the over under in this game, eight and a half. I mean over their career, you would think you would have to lean toward the under career era from accused three point nine. Oh, and then kluber three point one four. So it wants me to take like looking at that. I want to take the under. But this season they have just not been playing that. Well, five point eight eight for kluber McCue four point seven eight so. I. Killing me. Yeah. I kinda wanna take the I'm gonna lean the under there you go. Way to go against myself. Minutes left and three more games over. They wanna get your your party of the days. So you can pick three favorite three games. Angels royals tomorrow Tyler Skaggs Danny Duffy making his season debut. Duffy had been the royals as I think Keller is the as right now for the royals. But Duffy when he's on his game has absolutely fantastic. Angels have gone from one tangible minus one twenty three tomorrow. I like angels money line here. I mean, they will be traveling tonight. It'll be too late night. Duffy hasn't shown too much actions. Starting this year Skaggs as a little bit inconsistent. But if the angels can get their bats going at a price of one twenty five and the royals obviously they've been known to blow leads late this year. So I'll take the angels. I'm actually going to lean towards the royals just because the angels to me one of the most inconsistent teams in baseball. They put together a great night tonight against the Yankees. Obviously. I don't see him doing it to games in a row. Speaking of not doing it to games in a row house this one Rangers and Mariners tomorrow. Shelby Miller and Kukuchi Kuchis minus one sixty five everything is screening to take the Mariners as I'm telling you take the Rangers. Ooh. Move to straight up on the run line or what straight up. Okay, they're going to be a party part of plus one forty five one fifty that game..

"About this way back into right center field in Dietrich his home for the second time. And of course, it's comes in at and archers going to be warned Archer apparently has a problem with it. David bell saying well, why of? And here comes everybody wants to talk about it. These teams have plenty other quite a bit here in the early going, and it's feisty. Audio courtesy a reds TV I often pirates. I should say pirates TV root sports when I first saw this. I'm not saying this for this was my first thought, I if you're just going to be a little bit about it. Chris Archer, then don't play professional baseball. Don't give up home runs. Don't do it. And then I had a minute to think about and I went, and this is beautiful, isn't it? This is what baseball needs more of. I'm serious about this. I love it. When when homerun hitters hip home runs. I think it's fun. When you're a professional in not in college not in high school. We always have to specify that. If you've got a high school kid who stand into the box Pippen home runs and doing backflips. That's probably asinine. But if you're a professional baseball player in major league baseball you've worked to get to its highest level care. Derek Dietrich is a twenty nine year old journeyman who hasn't hit that well in his entire career? I don't care. You've worked hard your in major league baseball. If you want to be a loud mouth like vodka or anything like that you go right on ahead. I think it's part of the fun of the game. We have heels we have faces. It's the same thing in pro wrestling as it is in baseball. And I enjoyed it thoroughly I enjoyed it. Because I got worked up about it about a regular season game. I thought that about Chris Archer who's a great pitcher. And I shouldn't have thought that about Chris Archer because Chris Archer he missed him. And he should dotted them was trying to serve Justice. That's fun. If you're a pirates fan and you're watching that game. And I don't know if we have clearance on ninety three seven right now. But if you're pirates fan, and you're listening to that game or you were watching that game on TV. Did you did you not want? Chris Chris Archer to dot Derek Dietrich. Yes, you did. And as a pirate fan, I should say as reds fan. And I don't know we have clearance down there in Cincinnati right now because some games going on and everything, but did you not want Yossi L plea to get away from everybody and go start cracking skulls. Of course, you did. That's what's beautiful about regular season baseball and what could be done about regular season baseball personality being brought in good bad ugly. Whatever it might be. I loved when Bryce Harper in the eighth inning back when they came back to Washington when he was playing with the Phillies last week. Did that great big nasty? Bet flip off that great big home run to put them up by so many in the eighth inning. When all those national fans that left because it's theater because. It's fun. That's what we need more of we need more Bryce Harper. We need more Derek Dietrich. We need more guys who are acting like that. And I'm dead serious about this. I don't condone it high school. I wouldn't condone it in little league. I certainly wouldn't even do it in minor league baseball because you're already in the farm system in an butcher, but a major league baseball. We're all the eyes are on it. I enjoy that. I enjoy when guys Throwdown dunks and stare at other guys. I enjoy when you see touchdown guy start to do dances. And look at other players and get another players faces and talk trash to those other players a little bit of fun me versus you. Good versus evil. Could be a great thing prefer professional sports. It's fun for that. Also auto courtesy of Fox Sports, Cincinnati AT and T sports. There we go those things can be a lot of fun. It's for I. Yeah. I thought it was silly that Chris Archer through it him. My God don't give up a great big tater to Derek Dietrich. And he won't stand in there and Meyer his own home run. But if I can have that argument legitimately, and we could have that more and more and have a little bit of fun while we do so because just like everything else. It's Mentana Kane is it not I think that can be a beautiful thing for baseball. Not pitch clocks, not any of the other silliness, not what the cloudy you-know-what hanging over their head. Because boy, we love to bring up the juice every time we can not about the national baseball hall of fame, and whether or not the voters for being ridiculous about who they put in which they are not any of that. But good strong personality bringing people in. I know that there's baseball purist out there who don't want me trashing their sport with the talk of professional wrestling, like the talk of roller derby, like the talk of of UFC and other thing, but it's always been the truth here in America. If you have a personal issue, it's going to sell if you have a personal issue in people believe you have a personal issue it draws. Money. The reason we remember the the Red Sox and the Yankees and heated rivalries is because it's a heated rivalry. It's not just with fans. It's Alex Rodriguez Cussing out guys with the with the Boston Red Sox. It's Bucky dent. It's Carlton Fisk. It's all that through history. It's Babe Ruth. It's personal. So seeing that yet my first thought was named Chris Archer? What are you doing? My second thought was man. This is a lot of fun, and I'd like to see more.

"The picture. We know they like to move early on some of these guys we met more with just a few days in one gory with just a few days of service when they made some of those deals they like to be aggressive with some of their younger players. Blake was interested in you're absolutely right. He told me, you know, going into that renewal that his eyes were on arbitration. That's where he was locked in on dead read with. His exact phrase of going arbitration. So in essence that I'm sure it wasn't exactly this way. But Blake's Dell said he told the race came back to him one more time. And he said he told them what it would take. He didn't want the option years. He would only let them by out one year of free agency. And he said, they agreed to his terms, and they made the deal very cook it helping happened in about three or four days. Jeez. Right after the trade deadline. I heard from folks with other teams who felt immediately that that trade that they made with Pittsburgh up. Chris Chris Archer to the pirates would turn out to be one of the best trades. We've seen in recent years. What do you think? Well, the initial returns are good. I mean, I know Chris Archer didn't have a great second half. Or, you know, the two months when he got to Pittsburgh, and he hit some injury issues as well. But the rays were very happy with Tyler glass. Now, they thought they'd give him the opportunity to pitch and their rotation. He had a miserable spring less than sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty two and why spring training stats don't matter. He was oh and five with a Tenny RA, and he. Two oh with a zero point eight three I think right now this far into the season. But Austin meadows is the guy that you know, the raise really were betting on these twenty three years old. It was up and down last year with Pittsburgh. The raise kept him at triple eight probably for a little bit of you know, cost control. They're looking ahead. But basically told him coming in spring training, you're going to be on this team. We just want you to go out and play and relaxing shows which you can do and first couple of weeks in tremendous. Obviously the big game yesterday four hits. It was on base actually five times four B is and it's the mellow kid. But a five to a player and I asked glass now about him. He said the first time he saw him playing the minor league game in the Pittsburgh organization. I'm one of the backfield's in Bradenton. He said everybody stopped. He had a ball the gap in legged out of Tripoli everybody in the field. It's like, whoa. What do we got here? I I wanna get your take is again, you you've seen the raise to a lot of work through the years. A lot of it. Inventive. A lot of success successful in the early early years. Not so successful. I wanted to get your assessment of what the front office is done especially in the last year and a half or so with the team that they've put together decisions that they made because I I know this. It's folks with other teams think that their front office work might be the best that we see major league baseball in that time. Yeah. It's really been an impressive turnaround. And look the rave did tremendous things obviously under Andrew Friedman. And then the management on field of Joe Madden in that group. And when they both left, you know, shockingly stunningly after twenty fourteen the race had to regroup a little bit met Silverman initially took over, but he really was kinda running baseball ops until they were ready to kind of put their new team fully in place, which was to promote Eric Neander. And then Heim bloom both guys that started as interns. I mean for all the turns out there you can you can run a Beijing. Years. But there they wanted to rebuild the farm system. They knew the farm system had fallen way off it was bear..

"Whole lot of messages being sent on the field of play as the pirates and the reds players. All. Now pushing and shoving holding each other back. Yeah. Okay. So no punches thrown everybody pushing and shoving we in a it's an iconic picture if you haven't seen it. It's all over social media is literally in the face of about twelve thirteen pirates. But here's the issue. Chris Archer felt like he was showed up as they say in baseball by Derek Dietrich, and he didn't throw at Dietrich in the next at bat. He threw behind him. But where does that fit in into this this whole baseball code thing? Because it's it's an unwritten rule of baseball that if you show somebody up, particularly if you're batter standing there admiring what you've just done. Chances are the next time the pitcher is going to make you know that he knows that you did that. But this is twenty nineteen this isn't nineteen fifty three, and you know, baseball was much more brutal game. Then have we not more? In baseball pass. What was once the unwritten Koto baseball? There's a phenomenal book that's out right now it's been out for several years, and I've had the author Jason turbo on with me many times number one because it's a great book number two because he gets into the intricacies of what literally goes on in baseball players policing themselves. And it's great to have Jason joins us now here on the acute here centers dot com hotline. And then Jason welcome back to Cincinnati. How are you? I'm great Cam. Thanks for having me on. So you've probably seen the video. And you've probably heard the aftermath bell upset probably will get checked. And he got thrown out of the game. They get suspended. We may get suspended. Archer was not thrown out of the game. I I just I just wonder now in this day and age of of educated ballplayers, many of whom go to college heavy money invested in all of these players. Why does still goes on? I I really don't understand it man, it we're in a gray area right now you talked about. It's not happening in one thousand nine hundred eighty three wouldn't happen in two thousand thirteen five six years ago. The game has really taken a precipitous turn toward toward letting the kids play major league baseball own slogan. So when a pitcher takes issue with that you can't help but scratch your head at what's going on in his head. And when that picture is Chris Archer, the guy who pumps his fist in pure westoff amount after big and does the same thing himself. I mean, nothing makes sense anymore in this world. It didn't then. But I'm just wondering it was a lot of these guys back in the fifties in the six well into the twenty first century. They didn't they didn't go to college. They weren't refined. They were high school kids. Some of them went year for college. Some of them didn't. Now, you've got kids that are traveling together. There AAU ball players bonding is a team you have you have players that go to college. And they understand what life is all about outside the ball field. I'm just I'm just wondering if one of the reasons why this is is still the way it is. I'm just wondering one of the reasons why is because nobody wants to be the first player or the first organization to say, we're just we're not doing that. That's not us. We're not going to do it. And if there's an incident that occurs on the field, then we'll deal with it as a team later, and I'll deal with it as an owner with the owner of the other team. I don't understand why can't be done that way. Absolutely. A can. And it occasionally is. But I on any given ball field on any given team. You're gonna have a hot head, and no matter how much organizational control is exerted to that end. You've been have some guys take things into their own hands. And look no further than David bell situation. That guy is as respected as anybody in baseball. He went out to make an argument considerate, legitimate or not. I mean over the warnings, right? He wanted to have his team at its own chance to respond. Okay. What was he gonna do with that? But that's his right to argue. There was no fighting going on until tweet vaulted the dugout rail. And and really brought both teams onto the field. So institutionally everything was under control until until you got involved, you know, and the little picture points to a much bigger picture is the guy who, you know, in my mind initiated this whole movement. He was the guy who bought brought flipping to the forefront and good on him for it. I mean, that's fine. But when when everyone suddenly taking policing into their own hands to this degree, that's where the institutional authority falls apart. And we ended up brawling in the middle of a baseball diamond on page one hundred of the baseball coach your book, it said that a profound majority baseball policing emanates from the pitcher's mound and covers numerous code violations show of disrespect like stealing a base while holding a lead or acts of showboating, which is watching a home run or pumping fist after beating at infield single. And then he wanted site things that happened in the nineteen eighty six. So it seems like that the that the place to start if you wanted to start policing. This would be with the pitchers would it not. Well, yeah. The pitcher well the pictures of the one enforcing it right and rear even even back in the eighties. It was rare for a manager to issue. Direct orders to a pitcher to drilling guy. They usually new to do it on their own or they would talk to teammates. And. I don't think with under any orders. There was some talk you plead with saying after the game that survey was was saying that a pitch was coming their way. Right. There may have been telegraphed. Maybe he had gotten together with Archer who knows? But this almost certainly didn't come from the pirates brass. So when when you've got a guy like that throwing balls at your teammates, you're going to get upset on the other hand Archer didn't really do anything. He threw it behind the guy. Right. It didn't look like he intended to hit him as gentle a warning as you can you can offer now. If he was inspired to act. He did it the right way came in below the belt it came in well behind him. There was even if they'd hit him. There was no real threat of injury. That's that's easily something you can let go what are the things that? I mean, there's great human cry. I mean, they're various columns around the country today. NBC sports said that the baseball has got to come down hard on Chris Archer, nip it in the bud bay. Here's here's something. I found interesting, and maybe you do to Jason if you look around the thirty major league baseball teams right now. There are no captains no team has a captain this year in major league baseball. And I'm I'm wondering if they talk about baseball players policing themselves. And this is how we take care of this in this instance, I just wonder if if there if there's if there's no locker room leadership, there's no clubhouse leadership with a defacto captain on any of the thirty major league baseball teams that it seems like it's left up to the twenty five odd players on each team to make up their own rules on that plea jumps the rail goes out. Takes issue with it. Archer survey says something about plea while you're going to get one coming your way in this. And that I just wonder how how much captain Louis baseball in two thousand nineteen plays into this. That's a great point. You know, you can think about the great captains of yesteryear and how much tone they set in their respective clubhouses. You know from from Derek Jeter in New York to just Alabama on the great swinging as teams at as went day. So went their teams, and you know, it's interesting one of the one of the comments in the aftermath was from pirates reliever. Felipe Vasquez Venezuelan guy who actually took offense that that someone broke the unwritten rules, which I found interesting because in Latin American players and toward the celebrate Tori opposed to the opposite direction. And one of the things he said was you know, if Joey Votto does something like that you can get away with it. But Dietrich is you haven't earned that right? And there's a line, right? Which is right in line with with the unwritten rules history guys on the right to do certain things. And and so to some degree that's their Joey Votto is clearly a team leader. He clearly had nothing to do with this this seconds. But but yeah, man without those captains, I I think I think he made a great point there. There is a vacuum at the top of the food chain. Chatting with Jason turbo. He is the author of the baseball codes being ball-stealing sides and brench bench clearing brawls. That's that book has been out. What about five six years now Jason taking on twenty ten? Changed so much since I came continued to blog about it. Yeah. You know, I'm writing up this incident right now, it'll go up in an hour or two. You know at the baseball coach dot com. You know, your current book is just fantastic. You're kind enough to send me a copy but dynamic bombastic fantastic. Reggie Raleigh catfish, Charlie Finley. It is the dynasty. That is the or was the Oakland. A's great read there too. You can find that all over including Amazon dot com, you know, the pirates in the reds have a history to there are a lot of incidents over the course of the last five years, certainly as long as Clinton hurdle has been managing the pirates were they have they've not only thrown at reds players, but thrown deliberately incited reds players. I remember vividly a an injury to Brandon Phillips at knocked him out. A couple of months he was in route to an MVP and broke his wrist. And he was all intents and purposes done for that year do teams get into that other managers that are like that that I don't know whether hurdle is that or not it's anecdotal because I only know what happens here in Cincinnati. But are there managers like that that? Would you know would hurdle expect or to have done that yesterday? That's an impossible thing to say without having an opera off the record conversation with Clint hurdle. He certainly would never admit to it. And I seriously doubt he ordered it. Like, I said, I think the the era of managers expecting slash ordering their pitchers to do something like that is by and large gone. I mean, you you look at the the greatest incident of reds pirates being balls ever. And that's dock Ellis mowing down members of the big red machine. Back in the early seventies. I think he hit three guys in a row. He he missed Tony Perez only because parade danced out of the way. And then pulled. He was trying to send a message that, you know, the pirates were getting a little bit soft and the reds were getting a little bit strong. And and he wanted to alter that course, that didn't come from his manager that all him manager in the history of the game that would have ordered that. Yeah. And the other thing too is as I said you have twenty five guys on the roster each will will react in different ways. But honestly, and I think you, and I talked about this the last time we had a visit. Well, I can't believe the owners of these franchises who invest heavily in these players millions in some cases, hundreds of millions of dollars. They're investments their commodities. We like to think they're players, but they're not they're commodities. I can't believe the owners don't get together. And just say, hey, look, we gotta figure out a way around this. And not that we're going to be able to control all twenty five guys in the same instance. But I think as a larger over arching theme, I think the owners need to get a better grasp on all of this to. Yeah. I mean, that's this is one of the big reasons. Kind of the change in attitude. Why by being balls are far less prevalent, and especially above the neck, you know, once upon a time you throw it behind. The guy's head need duck out of the way and get right back in the box, you come anywhere near the shoulders now and great issue is taken. I think for just that reason no one wants to to risk a multimillion dollar contract on some hotheaded pitcher go. Well, I think it's in your book of not mistaken. I mean, it was all there were all kinds of things it would set a pitcher off back in the day as they say wasn't it Bob Gibson. If you walked in front of home plate after he struck you out you're gonna get it. The next time you came to to to the plate. When on a long list of things get done. Jason great stuff. Thank you so much Jason turbo. Again, his book. I can't believe. Now, we're going on nine years the baseball codes being ball star assigned stealing and bench, clearing brawls. But again is his book about the Oakland A's dynasty back in in. The seventies is phenomenal to you can find.

How about that you better get drink? Chris looks like something you might hit up t-. Wow. So may ask you this. Did you like that homerun you liked that you like that? Derek did. Dietrich love that home run. He admired the hell out of that home run. If he stared at that any longer he would have needed to buy a ticket pirates pitcher, Chris Archer, probably hated that home run is much as Dietrich loved it. Aren't you? Probably hated that home run in hated how Dietrich stared at it afterwards because in the top of the fourth when Dietrich came to once again or let him know all about it. And he let him know all about it with a pitch behind Dietrich. You see that's a code enforcement. Warning there. Some guys you can style homerun off of in. Chris Archer is not one of those guys at least not if you're Derek Dietrich. And you do it the way Dietrich did so Archer did what he did. And then everyone did everything. I only heard about it. Elsewhere. Either on MLB network or on a punt somebody just had mentioned that he had a high era. I couldn't possibly. Around in his last start a little bit. But I mean that could be him working on, you know, maybe maybe he's trying to work on, you know, his change up or a slide or, you know, just pop insiders left and right. You know? I'm on move by. I knew you would be. I just wonder if if maybe could push that price down a little bit for us. Yes. Stop taking Louise castio and main events people. Absolutely. Are you are you buying low? So to speak on Chris arches, Lois. He's Ben in years. Are you are you jumping in? I haven't yet. I may though because he does look really good. He finished the season strong. Size working on a new pitch. Right. Yeah. So it's just. I feel like maybe I should get one share like I've been completely out for a couple of years. I mean, I roasted him go. Yeah. Maybe I should get that one share just in case because I've been in so much, and if he does turn around I don't wanna be on the outside looking in you don't want. You don't want to be my version of Jimmy Nelson where you long, and then you finally said I'm done with this. And he breaks out any breaks out. So I was the guy who you know. This is what started the the mean Santa Kashmir feud, which is which has been worked out. And and you know, we're we're buddies again. But was me saying that Chris Archer, you know, wasn't very good wasn't as good as his name value. And then of course, the race. We're gonna suck. "You know, I kind of thought I'd begin Lewis castio around the one thirties. One forties. This year, you know, with say that'd be with Masahiro Tanaka. Chris Archer J hap. And then you Darvish as as far as ADP goes. I kinda thought that's where Louise castio live. But he's up here at pick one ten and the pictures around him are Charlie Morton, the aforementioned didn't even know they were going back to back like that. And then David price there some split there, by the way there on a lot of stars that are right around that one ten Mark. It's actually to close right after his teammate rice, l glazed and Jose LeClercq and then Wade Davis and then Carl. Martinez down at one twenty six. So I'm surprised that the market is willing to buy in as much. So it's not like I'm really zigging, you know to go against the market to stay on in on. Louise casteel. It seems that the general market has. Agreed. Let's go ahead and stick here. So, but I still love him stalking me buying them. I know some folks have sworn off, but that that is a smaller contingent than you might have thought when when the season wrapped up, and we knew what what castio had on the board. All right, next up is the fourth of our tears here. We're looking at pictures forty six through sixty on my list on my top one twenty right now. And I won't go back to the well with one, but probably trying to get a little bit deeper here with the why on Jimmy Nelson. I've got him. You know, I could have done bus grow. It was it was musk Grover Nelson actually know what let's do wants to Moscow. Pardon me, taking a drink there. Let's let's call an audible and do grove here. Because Jason I just drafted him in the labor draft too. So he's kind of fresh on the brain with that. And and I couldn't really talk Jason into Jimmy Nelson. So we'd had one of the two I have them back to back at forty seven forty eight for me must grove when we give you some ADP's musk grove is going to away. He's going pretty late. I think Nelson's go and even later Nelson go into thirty four. So they're kind of close to each other. There's well, but they're back to back in my marines as top fifty starner's. I'm really excited about both. I think Joe must grow. This is definitely a buyback in on some hype from last year. I think there is a discount here. I want to say he was going within the top two hundred. But I can't quite recall Joel must groves stock last year. In fact, let me take a quick look. I actually have a little twenty eighteen eighty p that I think I can call it pretty quickly. I can't. So let me see I'll do that here. Again. We're calling an audible, so we're doing things on the fly. Please bear with me as you hear the Piter Pedder of me typing. No, this is this is a more expensive price. He was an afterthought last year. Three eighty three eighty was musk rose ADP. So this is more expensive. But not commensurate with what I think he did. So that that more accurately describes it because I thought he should be a little bit more expensive. Now, again, I don't want him to be when I'm in my draft rooms, but he is up to Jonas grove is after a four six one eighteen whip combo. Sixteen percent strikeout might as walk ratio built on his five percent strikeout rate or excuse me, five percents strike at five percent walk rate. We're big trouble. He puts up a five percent strikeout rate. He's in big trouble. So we don't want that at all. But one of the main things I like about Moscow's, I think he did well in his first full season as a fullish one hundred fifteen innings nineteen starts there was an injury there. But as a fulltime starters when I really meant because he wasn't between the pen and rotation last year his nineteen appearances were all starts. He did have the shoulder strain to start the season. So he didn't even start till may twenty fifth..

"They trade them. I mean, they thought that they were contention. This year traded Chris Archer got pieces back Ainhoa. We've been joking lately. It's like, you know, better not better not be bad or they might trade Blake Snell. Right. If this as team is not good as Chris Davis's contract starts firing. Do you think they would attempt to move? Or is he just too much part of Oakland to do that? No. I think I mean, I I think if there's any team that's shown, you know, like the race that they're not afraid to move someone when it's in their best interest. It's the as and look if the as are clearly out of contention in the second half, and they're not really playing for anything. And you've got a superstar all-star slugger on the roster making, you know, nineteen million, and you know, you can trade him and avoid having to pay the the last half of that and get some prospects. In return. You know, I I I'm certain they would obviously the as you know, hope and plan to be in contention and not be in that spot in which case, it's they're happy to ride out the contract with with Chris Davis. But if they're out of it, you know, the as are, you know, are always going to, you know, make something out of nothing. I don't think there's any question about that. And and Chris Davis will likely to be the most valuable player that will be on on a one year contract for the for the team next year in. MLB: Analysis of the starting pitchers available for trade
"Get nothing happens until the final final day on july thirty first year ago jose cantata was a key piece for the chicago cubs obviously in the month of august of orlando was a key piece for the houston astros it seems that starting pitching available this year at the trade deadline is a smaller pool and are the mets going to deal and if they don't who's the most coveted starting pitcher available at the trade market yeah how did you mentioned anywhere they're gonna trade jacob degrom get blown away to trade noah syndergaard trade muslim traded tom see very is so so it's a very weak wool someone had a started a decent available you get a lot of them you know what i mean everybody would like to have michael fulmer detroit years of control changes chris archer of tampa and now the best available you know maybe a j half of toronto cole hamels taxes you know maybe wheeler with with the mets there's not a whole lot out there let me play out a hypothetical for you i have no idea what your opinion is on this and so you might be a against my thoughts on this but let me play out a hypothetical that potentially the second best record in the american league and the second best record in the national league could both be wild cards this year his major league baseball anywhere close to exploring expanding the one game wild card into a mini series is that a playable does that story have some legs to it yeah they haven't discussed that but about guarantee if the ink is a red sox get knocked out and walker game the end is going to become an issue getting we haven't had that big upset yet in a in a wildcard game i was going to happen at some point here the thing is tv loves it i mean you get the atmosphere and so you know ratings are usually pretty good in the one thing that if you have a best at three but you could you have an offday between a travel day the team that wins the divisions can be sitting around for awhile almost six or seven days and we've seen world series teams have sat around for six or seven days play terrible the world series so they think it'd be just a disadvantage for winning your division you have to sit around that long pretty start planning it right and you have to protect monday as a playoff day right for a one game playoff the so you have to protect monday so even if you went best to three you could go tuesday wednesday thursday but a division winner would be waiting at least until friday before opening up against the wild card winner that's the issue right yeah and you know think about a travel they too so could the tuesday wednesday travel thursday same friday travel that again maybe waiting a complete week so that that yeah that's a problem too as far as as far as doing that unless you just said a best at three one site no travel yeah and that that becomes the that becomes the issue and to your point initially if if the yankees or the red sox are involved as a one hundred and three one hundred four win team in this case maybe playing a one hundred win seattle mariners team one of those teams doesn't advance after nine innings that's the part that i think will get stuck in people's car sure yeah definitely i mean you cleveland sunday we'll turn on ninety five hundred but then cleveland was only winning eighty five games and win the division that would really drive people crazy 'cause young 'cause they're division is so bad but yeah those things those things are going to happen and it's almost like when the giants that year one of her three games and ninety three and sat home i think that it almost kinda helped trigger the.
